Reviews of Aster Cafe

The atmosphere and ambience is special. It feels like a café in Europe. They have live music and great food options. You can’t beat the view of the river. Went for brunch for the first time, small menu but the Lox was delicious; I would definitely order it again.
Indoors is best for small groups. Their outdoor patio is large but doesn’t take reservations so there might be a short wait at busy times and beautiful days.
We each got two drinks and a brunch entree for about $56 (includes tax, tip, and $5 Cover charge per person for the swing band)

We stopped in around 5 on a Saturday an we easily got a seat outside. This place has great ambiance to go along with a nice menu for both food and drinks. The bahn mi was decent and so was the cauliflower. Our waiter was great and the service was quick. We loved the experience and plan to stop back soon.

Across the river from downtown Minneapolis sits a cobbled street with city views and a quaint little place called the Aster Cafe. It has pretentious written all over it and maybe it is but tonight was nothing but top shelf music, booze and smiling faces for these first timers. We drove up to hear some songs from one of our favorite Westies and the space played well for his songs. I look forward to a summertime visit as the patio looks like it might be a great place to enjoy a nice summer evening. Enjoy!

Great place overall. Lot of outdoor seating area. Decent food, good presentation. Finding parking on a weekend might be an issue though.

We enjoyed a delightful brunch on a Saturday. The hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was extra creamy and the fennel sausage blended spice and flavors well. The classic turkey sandwich came with a tasty mayo and great bread. The outside seating is calm and roomy. The service was impeccable.

Beautiful automosphere, both inside and outside when the weather permits. The lighting and interior is gorgeous, the music is lovely, with love music featuring at certain times. I had the Bahn Mi, which was delicious. The flavors were well balanced and the bread was freshly made.
Card only, you can pay right at the table with the server when ready. No waiting.

Brisket grits - 5 stars. Delicious wouldn’t change a thing
Country Benedict- 5 stars. Eggs cooked perfectly every time I’ve got it, and the breakfast potatoes are great
French toast bake - 5 stars. Really delicious. Unlike any french toast I’ve had. I wish it had more strawberries though.
Lox - skip it. To much lemon flavor, the lemon was to strong
Overall - 5 stars, one of my favorite brunch places

Great atmosphere with good food and drinks. I enjoyed the sound of the waterfall while eating. However, there were a lot of ants on the patio when I was eating—be sure you aren’t seated at a table near an ant mound!

We stopped for dinner & drinks because a friend, Jay Roberts, was playing on stage that evening (great show!). Lovely for a date, the atmosphere was lamplit, a bit rustic/eclectic, and cozy. (I've heard great things about the patio in the summer, but that ship has sailed for this year.) I ordered the winter pear salad, which was fresh and quite enjoyable--lots of good flavors and textures...a moderate but satisfying portion. My date's "basil flatbread" (a round, thin-crust cheese pizza, lol) was alright but basic. Vegetarians, you'll likely be able to find something suitable and very palatable, albeit peripheral, on the menu. Unless you want a hummus plate, I fear my plant-based friends may be out of luck. I was happy with my meal and would probably visit again, but the signature dishes were meat-based, a surprising missed opportunity for a contemporary menu. If you're going to order a drink, the chartreuse swizzle & the cucumber cutie were excellent.

Great place and ambiance. Great atmosphere for brunch especially during summer. The food was amazing and freshly cooked. I enjoy coming back to aster cafe especially for the Benedict, one of the best I have had.

The ambience and service is really great - 5 stars. If you're looking for american-fusion, the food is pretty good. But if you're looking for more of Asian taste profile in the Thai noodles and curry, the taste here tends to be a little too much on the mellow side. It would be really helpful if the menu on Google matched what they have in the restaurant cos we went looking for the shawarma bowl which wasn't there. The Irish coffee cocktail was really good too.
Dessie Hristov
Nice setting along the river, great views! Parking might be challenging, but if you can't find a spot along the road, there is a parking garage behind the block for $7.50. Great tomato bisque, charcuterie board. The truffle flatbread was ok. We were there on a Friday night, it wasn't super busy, our server was on her phone more time than she spent on us, so didn't feel super taken care of. The live music was great but it is impossible to have a conversation inside, so in the end we had to take our table outside.
Overall, a good place.
Matt Ditzler
There are not many better patios than this one! Perfect for weekend afternoon brunch. Great drinks, food and service. Amazing character inside and out!!
Lauren Tennant
Really cute spot with nice decor and a nice patio view, we split the spicy chicken flatbread and beet and feta salad which was a perfect amount of lunch for two people. The beet salad was especially delicious, the feta cheese was very good.

Unbeatable service, food, and location for the price. Everything from the cocktails to the food is well thought out, memorable, and tasty. I highly recommend the Aster club sandwich. All the ingredients are noticeably high quality which lends itself to the whole experience of Aster Cafe too: classy and cozy. The outdoor seating area is magical: European style, colorful, and with a gorgeous view of the skyline. Great for people watching. This place is a must-go if you have friends who are new to the area, and is just as quintessential for us locals. They often have live music as well. No complaints, an easy five stars.

Delicious food! Great service! Friendly, fast, even offered to take a pic for us😉 Avocado toast was the best I've ever had
Brian Snow
My wife & I had dinner at Aster for the first time last night (7/22). The thing you notice first is how wonderful the area is. People biking/walking, the other businesses in the area, the buildings and all their history...I could go on.
When we walked up to the patio it was packed so we assumed a long wait time. However, once checked in we were at our table in less than 5 minutes.
Matthew was our server. He was polite and knowledgeable, stopping by our table often throughout the dinner for refills and whatnot. Great Service!
The food was really good. My wife & I shared the charcuterie and smoked salmon salad. She ordered the basil flatbread, I ordered the Hawaiian sandwich. Everything was hot (or cold) and tasted fresh!
We can't wait to go back again soon! Maybe in the fall when it's just a touch cooler outside!
Emily Butler
Love coming to aster regardless of the season, but summer on the patio is especially nice. Always good food and drinks with a nice ambience and view of the river.
Zainab Sajjad
The biggest plus of this place is the view hands down. We sat outside and the weather was lovely so that helped a bit. The non-alcoholic cocktail I had tasted good and was super refreshing. The food however was a little disappointing. Maybe it’s an acquired taste or something but the Pita roll tasted a bit bland and the vinaigrette didn’t sit well with the whole thing.
We didn’t have to wait long to be seated and the staff was nice albeit busy with the amount of people.
Urvashi Desai
They do not have many vegetarian options which led me to rate it 4/5. The artichoke dip was amazing! Cocktails were also very good. Great location. Friendly staff. Live music. Would highly recommend it unless you are a vegetarian/vegan.
Jess Montgomery
Fun stopping in to see Guytano, one my favorite local bands do an acoustic set. Great menu, drinks and friendly staff!
Lance Custer
The experience starts with great atmosphere on the outdoor patio and continues indoors. Love the ambiance inside as well. Even at a peak time service was prompt and the server was really pleasant. Went there for drinks and light snack and will definitely go back for another meal.
Levente Borvak
Fantastic venue, great view of the downtown skyline, really great food and amazing service!
Christopher Terhark
This is the second time I've ever been here. Today, we had the pleasure of eating outside in 80 degree weather on their beautiful patio.
We called ahead of time to confirm they could accommodate a dietary need request for someone in our party. Not only did they happily oblige, but they must have notified the wait staff because our server knew right away. It was really nice because other restaurants have made it a pain or declined altogether for a relatively simple request.
That being said, the food, service, and atmosphere was all a 5 star experience. I highly recommend Aster Cafe.
Reptar
The vibes be vibin, the outdoor patio is neat, and the river is right there to gander at while you grub. Too bad you can't go for a dip post meal since the dam is right there and gotta wait at least 1 hour after eating to swim. My sandwich was delectable and made for a nice lunch mid Bike ride. Service was affable and we were very pleased overall. Will definitely be back to sit down and consume more calories next time.
Jonathan Carver
Four of us visited the Astor Café during Happy Hour and had a wonderful time. Great staff! Nice beer and wine lists. We had two of their pizzas which we also enjoyed. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the view of the Minneapolis skyline can't be beat.
Jordan Gaal
This is our go-to date night experience. There aren’t many places left where you can sit on a cobblestone patio with moonlight coming through the trees, all with a view of the skyline. And yet they still have a reasonably priced seasonal cheese plate! Thank you for serving as the setting for many memorable nights.
Carmi Anderson
Dropped in on Sat evening around 9p. Seated within 10 minutes. Food and drinks were great. I had a NA mocktail with black cherry I think? and the brisket tacos (GF). Brisket was so good and tender.
Another in our party had Street Noodles and loved. They were spicy delicious. Great server too. Thank you. I'll be back.
Nian Liu
Great place for weekend brunch. It's nice to have patio seating and pleasant atmosphere. Food is good and waitress are nice. Will go back for sure.
Camille
Good service, location, & delicious dinner & dessert! We went on a weekday night- it was busy but not overwhelming. We got a table after about a ten min wait, and our food came very quickly! Would definitely go again.
Farrukh Ansari
The view is spectacular, but the food has opportunity for improvement. We had the wrap and couldn't taste anything except the sauce they used, which overpowered rest of the ingredients. The pita also felt a bit dry. For drinks it's fine but I wouldn't recommend the wrap, maybe the other items taste better.
Joey
PROS:
- Beautiful & romantic both inside & outdoors on the patio.
- Fantastic & quaint location on St. Anthony Main's riverfront park with sunset views over the Minneapolis skyline.
- Good food.
CONS:
- Self-serve water.
- My date night with each of us having 2 drinks & a salad cost $106. A bit more expensive than I was expecting.
- They automatically assume you will tip 20%, however you can change if you wish.
Kev Moe
Beautiful romantic setting but the decor and the overall vibe of the place were of seemingly different worlds and the clash was obvious.
Server was competent and nice but too subdued to provide an extra added experience.
The 4 percent that management charged on the bill to enlist me to help them pay their staff is a non starter for me...charge me the correct amount for the meal and knock off nickel and dime approach.
The salmon salad was actually quite excellent...the prosciutto flat bread and the short rib bites had a a mix of old meat and fresh from bite to bite.
While a fun little place there was not much that would entice me to make the trip to the edge of Downtown
Nikki
Just had brunch there with a friend on Sunday. They have a nice HUGE patio with the tables nicely spaced. And, a great bench area to sit if there is a wait. We were told about 30 minute wait so wanted to go in and get a bloody mary to start the day off right. Was told the bar was not open for walk up so would have to sit at a table inside, order the drinks and then bring them out to the waiting area if that is where we wanted to drink them. A bit strange, but so are the times. The gals at the hostess stand came and told me when there was a table open and the waitress in there knew the gig, so worked fine. Table ready earlier than expected, I think cuz we were willing to sit in the sun and had a great brunch. Waitress attentive and nice, food was great. Would definitely return. Friend had the avocado toast, looked amazing, so scrimping on the avocado. And, I had the eggs bennie. Not your standard by any means - the home made sausage was strong on fennel, but I enjoyed it. Glad the biscuit was not too thick or that would have ruined it. Nice potatoes on the side. Bloody was spicy.
sabrina ferrell
This is a really fun patio spot in the city by the river! The menu for drinks and food are nice but could have a few more options/variety. The food quality is nice and everything we tried was very good (turkey cesar salad and the turkey sandwich).
This is a casual spot, so keep this in mind for when you plan a visit. The service is fine, and mainly why I give this place a 4-star. I think the attention to detail and overall service could be improved. We visited this restaurant with a group of 6 people total. Putting 2 tables together for a better eating and drinking experience would have been nice. Instead we shared 1 quite small patio table.
Overall, the location and casual cafe experience is very nice, and the food quality is good. I am not jumping out of my seat to go back to this place, but I would go again if I was in the area and it was convenient.
Brittany Amborn
The Nordic Mule is a delicious drink. The food was good but the menu was limited. They were busy and our waitress seemed to struggle to manage and didn’t check in hardly at all.
Dave Rose
Great patio, solid service, good drinks, and a good bite to eat. Would highly recommend a visit for live music or a tasty drink on a sunny day!
N M
Great food, fantastic outdoor space. Came for happy hour and had a great time. It was busy but our server disappeared for a good half hour at one point.
Weston Baxter
Great vibe, horrible food. Bland cauliflower, flatbread pizza that was greasy and unflavorful, and noodles that were mushy and watery. However, the patio was quite nice. Go for drinks and skip the food.
Ariane Laxo
Lovely spot for small concerts. Only a few gluten free options on the menu. We had tacos, which were delicious.
Upton King
Went on a Sunday evening to see Lucy Wainwright Roche and Mother Banjo. An intimate evening. Cafe makes the most of their seating potential, as tables are incredibly close to one another. It is also quite dark inside. Service was top notch with perfect timing from greeting to payment of the bill. Very upbeat and friendly. Food is pricey but worth it. We both enjoyed vegan tabbouleh bowls, delicious. I had the curried vegetable dumplings, very good. And we enjoyed a vegetarian flatbread, lots of cheese. They have a wonderful selection of beers on tap. The outdoor patio features a great view and fire pits. All and all... It made for a wonderful evening.
Julie Taeko
I absolutely love the location right next to the water, with gorgeous views of the skyline. And the staff were extremely friendly and very hospitable. Plus, the food wasn’t bad and the price was right for the epic view. I thought my chicken salad was pretty good, although it could’ve used a little bit of salt. Otherwise, no complaints!
Jeannie Hill
It was a rare outing for us this summer; we didn’t need to go indoors at all and our river-side table was nicely spaced from other patrons. We enjoyed it lovely bistro atmosphere nestled into 125 SE Main St, Minneapolis, MN.
We think the price and portions are great – in line with fresher and better food.
I quenched my thirst with the non-alcoholic Mirage beverage and liked it so much that my companion ordered one later. We recommend the Beet and Feta Salad, Watermelon brisket tacos, and the Shawarma Bowl. It has Amish chicken, cauliflower, olives, loads of feta, pepperoncini and is nicely spiced. There was enough to share.
Our server was a very young man who was absolutely stellar. He was very attentive, timely, helpful with menu QandA, and just bright and positive. The patio was buzzing with diners thankful for returning restaurant goers, such a setting and service, according to several we spoke at a comfortable with. A wonderful and safe-during-COVID Friday night outing.
Next time I intend to try their cheese plate or charcuterie board – and am sure that I won’t be disappointed. Their menu stands out for those who love healthy eating over the typical burger place.
It wasn’t hard to find metered parking nearby. Seems nice to have the cheerful red patio table umbrellas in case it rains or for a bit of shade.

I enjoyed the food and the vibe at Aster Cafe! The culture was so upbeat and everyone there was there to have a wonderful night out. My friend ordered the bulgogi kimchi bowl and tacos. I had the vegetable dumpling soup w/bread and beef stew. I was really into the dumpling soup, it was so original and had a unique taste to it. That's probably one of my favorite dishes I've had in a while. I was not a big fan of the beef stew as I'm not a stew person in general but I wanted something warm. It tasted pretty blend to me so you might have to add in salt and pepper. But my friend thought otherwise. We liked the tacos && thought it was pretty unique that they added watermelon. May sound weird but it doesn't taste as bad as you might think! My friend enjoyed his kimchi bowl but thought there was too much kimchi so he couldn't savor the flavor of the meat. The service their was great, the staffs and even customers were friendly. There was a live band as well. Aster cafe completed our night. I'll have to go back for the dumpling soup soon.
Angie Kezar
We had our 53-person wedding at Aster Cafe's River Room! The River Room does not need much added decor - it has a perfect rustic look! Just a lovely place. The food was delightful; made a lot of our foodie friends very happy! About a quarter of the guests were vegetarians, and the veggie shawarma bowl was a hit. We rented the Hepburn Suite for the bride and a few others to get ready in, keep supplies, etc, and that was a $500 well spent. We did the ceremony and reception all in the River Room. The weather was beautiful and we had nice light coming through the big windows!
Oh! Keep in mind that if you bring in your own cakes or dessert, there is a fee per serving ($3). There is an additional fee if you want it plated by the staff ($5). We brought in tres leches cake from Cafe Latte and ended up spending more on the fees than the cakes themselves! It sounds pretty par for the course in the wedding venue industry, though.
We did have some difficulty communicating with the coordinator, Serina. My questions were answered minimally, so I had to think of follow-up questions and anticipate what I'd need to know, even as I was trying to figure out all the timing details in the weeks leading up to the wedding date. There was about a week before our contract was due to be signed where I hadn't heard back from Serina, and the day our contract was due I messaged her again, she said she'd been on vacation, and reminded me that our contract was due. This felt rude, because I had been trying to get information from her in order to have what I needed on the contract. Because we ended up being rushed to just sign it, I had forgotten to ask a few other questions to include the right stuff in the contract. There were some details I just let go (beer choices for the taps, for example) because I wasn't hearing back from her.
It is also a bit confusing to understand the difference between the overhead system and a fancier PA you can rent from them. I had scheduled a meeting with Serina to go over how the overhead sound system (free/included) would work, but she had somebody else meet me there. I thought I was asking the right questions, but apparently this other person didn't know the context and my questions hadn't really been answered. While there, I also went over the seating plan, and then messaged Serina about how many tables I wanted in the room. I wanted my guests to spread out a bit with 53 people across 7 tables rather than just 5. Unfortunately, the day of the wedding there was a delay when we didn't have enough tables. Serina had to wait for other staff to arrive to bring in the tables, and after that my family could finally set up the place cards and programs. My husband was late to get dressed/ready because of that, and we had to move our pictures back. Luckily, we had some wiggle room because our photographer, Jaylene Dawn, was wonderful.
So, all turned out in the end, but the coordinator was disappointing.
Lisa Stewart
One of my all time favorite local venues for awesome food, ambiance, and local shows. My only complaint on our last visit, my friend wanted extra olives with our martinis...they charged me $6 for these olives. Really? That’s overkill, Aster, not cool.
I also wish they had a more reasonably priced house wine offering, a red and a white would do. More at that $7 price point. I’m not a fine wine drinker and paying $13 for a glass of wine is a bit much...especially if there’s no show that evening.
Jasmine N
Really pretty patio and view from even inside the restaurant. It's a romantic place. Definitely on the pricey side.
We had the petite steak dish and the cheese plate. The cheese plate is considered an appetizer but it's big enough to fill up two people who are just kinda hungry. I ate it and loved every moment.
The wine pairings are short but sweet. They have some good choices for wine and cocktails. I can definitely see this as a first date or date night spot. They even have entertainment in the evening you need to pay for in advance.
Stephen Smith
Lotsnof Veg options. The veggie chicken was delicious. Quick seating and prompt service. They do social distamcing very well and take it seriously. Very comfy chairs. The bloody mary was expensive but MmmmmMmmmm good
Kate Brandt
We went on a Saturday afternoon. Sat inside. The food menu is pretty limited, but they have a full bar and a nice selection of tap beer. Our server wasn't very good at all and paying the check was a bit awkward - apparently they don't drop the check, they just show you what you owe on a handheld machine and you pay right then and there, including tip. Food was fine enough but not rave worthy by any stretch of the imagination.
Adriane Gilbert
The service was excellent, the atmosphere (we sat outside) was wonderful, the drinks were great, but the food was very disappointing. We ordered the “roasted cauliflower” which was steamed and unseasoned, had a tiny bit of sauce underneath it and three small blobs of spicy red sauce. Not at all worth the price and definitely not roasted. A few people ordered the chicken sandwiches and they were cold and bland. A few people had the bahn mi and it was lacking flavor and sauce, and one had a giant chunk of inedible gristle. The salmon salad was decent, and the street noodles were okay. The only dish that was worth the price (and worth ordering again) was the poke bowl. Won’t be back for dinner, but would possibly try brunch.
If I were rating based on food and value for prices (we dropped over $400 for dinner and drinks for five adults and four kids) it would be a one star rating, but the service, quality of drinks and being able to sit outside in that location brings it up to three.
Tab Fellows
Cool romantic spot on lovely brick Main St. Professional staff tasty food full bar outdoor dining.
Robert Nelson
It is a romantic cafe on a patio with good menu selections including vegan, GF, options and more. It was difficult to pick just one option.
David Braney
If you like to dance Balboa or listen to old time music, this is your place for Sunday brunch. Make a reservation. Great food choices and a large cocktail menu.
Alex Boutte
Escape the cold and warm up at this cozy spot! I had a blast watching people dance to the live band and my food surpassed my expectations! Someone I met in passing briefly downtown mentioned this place and that they were heading there, so I took a chance and said heck, I'll head there too and check it out for myself. I'm so glad I did, it was a whole new experience than what I had been used to while visiting downtown.
Anna Hendricks
We had such an amazing time at Aster Cafe. They have the gluten free options on the menu, which were all very good! The best part of the meal was our amazing waitress, Iris. She brought such a great energy to our meal and we even decided to go to Jefe (also owned by the same people that own Aster) right next door the next night so she could be our server again!
Maddy Broussard
Found this place just walking by the river, definitely worth a stop. Had the best gnocchi I've ever had by far in their beautiful outdoor seating area and enjoyed amazingly fast lunch service. Would reccomend to anyone who likes a little bit of higher class dining feel without high prices.
Salika Pao
Seating on patio was nice out. Server was so clueless but fun. She went and got answers for all the questions we had asked. Even the age of the cheese. We left her a big tip.
Daniel Ammermann
Service was adequate at best, but to be fair it was quite busy although we sat inside where it was a bit less busy. Food was good, but not quite as good as the price would lead you to believe. Might go back for the view but other than that, it's a one and done.
Jonathan Hernandez
Awesome atmosphere and environment! Reminds me of restaurants in Brooklyn NYC with the wood, dim Amber lights and iron pillars. Friendly staff, fast service and original menu options. Food was fresh and delicious, I will be back!
Sarah Ager
Amazing Filipino American inspired food and drinks. All Instagram worthy! They put in thought to their presentation. Come for breakfast/brunch! This is cafe hours.
Keith Rench
This is a really cool place located right across the street from the Mississippi river. We sat outside on a gorgeous day and enjoyed the view of the Minneapolis skyline. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I would frequent this establishment often, if I lived closer. The perfect place to relax, enjoy a beer and eat some delicious food!!!
Duy Nguyen
Great ambiance and views, staff is friendly and quick despite being super busy. Decent drinks, great spot for afternoon with good views of the city skyline and Mississippi river.
Alison Petroski
Wonderful atompshere. Tiny place with hand crafted cocktails. Little on the pricey side bit worth it. Also beautiful view of the skyscrapers and river on the patio.
Tori K
This venue is so perfect during the summer! And the food was delicious as well as the drinks. Parking isn't great but walking around is not a big deal since there is a lot to see around the area. My gnocchi was amazing and I would absolutely have that again. Service however was not great at all. We were never even greeted, we had to tell the host where we wanted to sit, and our waitress took our orders and our bill and that was all.
Varun Berry
Lovely place in Minneapolis for dinner and ambience is just too food. Best r their servers not at all stressed even when they have all tables occupied unlike California where servers stress is shown on their face and in their service. They can't beat aster Cafe servers.
Nevada COOL (NevadaCool)
Love thw atmosphere. you can choose to sit outdoors, and bask in the sun, or simply grab a sear inside, which has 24 tables, and accommodates 13 people around the the half horse shoe bar. This is more like a place to meet a date because the liggting is very subdued. The wait staff, and bartenders are very knowledgeable, and twntative to their custoners. The coffee is above average. There is wifi for guests.
Geah Nayr
The 'Hawaiian' is an absolutely brilliant sandwich. The combination of flavors are eye opening! The Tuna Poke? Yes! The Sausage and pepperoni flatbread is another great entree. Cocktails were made to perfection. Downside? A little spendy. Hell, what isn't expensive in this time-line? It just costed me $8.99 to give this review.
J/K, it was $12.99😁
Luke Fosburg (LF)
Fun environment! Loved the atmosphere and drinks. Made friends right away and was in walking distance to my hotel. Thanks for making my stay fun!
Anastasia Demehin
It is a GEM: amazing live music, unbeatable ambience and location, and great service!
Arun Kothanath
Very good atmosphere for a happy hour. The waiters are just joyful and happy to serve. Good food options.
Sam
Service was great! Food was good with a minor gripe - the menu claims that the street noodles are made with udon noodles, but mine seemed to be made with simple rice noodles.
Chris Merkel
Breakfast & coffees are amazing!! We’ll be back for lunch & dinner :)
Love the atmosphere!! Small but very inviting.
Rob Edinger
Lovely place to eat and people watch on the sidewalk next to the Mississippi River. The food includes twists on things you already like. A truffle and mushroom Flatbread, a beet and apple salad, a fantastic charcuterie board. And whatever you do, try the Aster Newfashioned. Yum.
Alexandra Dickison
Aster hosted our groom's dinner, and it was a night to remember! We booked the River room, and it was perfect! The venue has so much character, beautiful view, and very roomy.
The bartenders, servers, and the Chef were fantastic! We had many great drinks, and everyone is still talking about the food. I'm telling you... the food was some of the best I've ever had.
I strongly recommend you consider the Aster cafe for hosting your groom's dinner or wedding, for that matter!
Aishwarya Menon
Perfect date night spot. Adorable dog friendly patio and looks wonderful inside too! Great service and tasty vegetarian friendly options!
joe sullivan
Fantastic place to eat! The food was incredible! Charming atmosphere with a vintage feel! Tremendous service!
Jose Benitez
We visit Aster’s patio during the summer after a bike ride, but we love how cozy inside is in the winter months.
Food and drinks always outstanding, and catering food allergies.
Definitely one of the staples of St. Anthony Main
Andrew Tompsett
Favorite place in Minneapolis to catch live music, enjoy a drink on the patio, or have a romantic meal.
Kara Bookwalter
Our particular server was curt and quick, but the other staff was wonderfully friendly. The creative dishes were light and fresh with potent flavors that weren't over the top.
Gopi Chand Vattikuti (Chandu)
I love dining out in the air, the ambiance it got by locating right in between two big blocks makes it less windy to enjoy your meal at any point of day.
Randal Mitschke
A very wonderful eclectic little place with great service very good looking bartenders fantastic charcuterie boards and wine. Will definitely be going back.
tom mobry
A great atmosphere, food was fantastic, and the music 🎶 of Matthew French and HebbaJebba was phenomenal!

We rode our bikes around the stone arch bridge and then stopped here for dinner on the patio. Its a heavenly atmosphere, service and food were great. I had a Turkey blt and my wife had margarita flat bread. Was excellent.
L.D. Ayers
Was a beautiful day out so we had to wait a little bit to get a table on the patio but totally worth the wait. Food was great and staff was super friendly and helpful! Will definitely be back!
Jessica Theodoroff
I've gone to Aster Cafe for drinks and for their live music brunch, and both were a great experience. Delicious food, solid service, and an atmosphere so easy to relax in, both indoors and on their huge patio! The only star taken away in this review is for their lack of physical menus--I understand the ease of using a QR code, but I prefer to have my phone put away completely when enjoying restaurants with friends and family. But all in all, I'd highly recommend Aster Cafe!
Auran B
This was one of the most relaxing dining experiences I’ve ever had. Sitting next to the river with live music in the background created the perfect atmospheres for a late evening happy hour.
Karen Helsel
We only split a single disk, but if they're all as tasty and well made as the chicken pot pie, this is the place for dinner! The tarragon was a nice subtle seasoning for the huge chunks of chicken and the flaky crust. The atmosphere inside is cozy and low key, perfect for relaxing with friends.
J K
Great atmosphere inside. Patio seating is awesome. Went for brunch recently and ordered a latte and lox. Gotta say it may have been the best lox I've ever had. The latte was great, as well. Would recommend.
Brandon Wold
My wife and I decided to do a Sunday morning brunch close to the holidays, and we were not disappointed! We made a reservation, but it wasn’t terribly busy when we arrived. We loved the live local music and the setting along the river in Northeast Minneapolis was fantastic! The cafe is dimly lit and cozy—great date setting.
We had the flatbread, salmon lox, and the Bloody Mary. All excellent choices. Highly recommend!
Lela Dunn
The food was so good. I give it 10 stars. But the waitress was so crusty. She didn't smile. She didn't want to engage. She kept looking the other way while we were talking to her. It's the full experience, you know, all of it! When you spend your money you want the whole experience..
Gillian L
Great service. Love the sandwiches!
The only issue I have is that they serve cocktails in these extremely skinny glasses full of ice!! $13.00!
I expect to be served good quality drinks worth every penny. My fiance ordered a virgin version of my drink, same thing, glass full of ice!😏
I'll go there for the food but not cocktails.
Zack Lumitap
Came here to grab a late lunch (while WFH) and got the Herb Roasted Turkey Club with thick strips of bacon and a yummy tarragon aioli. Got a side salad and an xtra side of chips! Also got a delish black berry mocktail that was really good! They have a decent "main menu" offering, but they were out of a couple of items (brisket and shawarma), which was a slight bummer. Overall, the lunch experience, ambiance, including the service well made up for it! Def grab a table on the patio if your time and the weather permits and just take it all in!
Sarabeth Marcello
Great service! But mediocre food and kind of dingy inside. Got the banh mi with Herbivorous Butcher "meat"--excessive mayo and served on bread that was a lot closer to a hoagie roll than a baguette. (And now the next day, I've got a light case of food poisoning.) Partner got the street noodles--I think there were more bean sprouts than noodles, small portion for the price. I'm guessing people come here for the patio overlooking the stone arch bridge and the drinks. Wouldn't recommend this one for dinner/food, though.
Erik Fahnestock
With great live bands, an intimate setting with delicious food, beer, wine and cocktails the Aster can feel more like an extension of your living room than a bar. The view of the street outside onto the river and downtown Minneapolis is one of the best of the city.
Parking can be tricky but if you go up towards the apartment buildings you should only be a few minutes walk away.
Rich Spicer
The food was ok, but I didn't order off their regular menu as I was there for a wedding. That said the venue and staff were outstanding. I would definitely give them another chance to see how their regular kitchen operates, if it's as good as the rest of my experience I am in for a treat!
Phillip
One of the best spots in the Twin Cities. Fantastic location by the river and close to Stone Arch Bridge. Huge patio with ample shade, great food and drinks (not only cocktails, but also a full espresso bar), and live music on the weekends. Whenever a friend needs a date spot, I send them to Aster
Elijah Morrissey
Never had a bad experience. Great music, service, and the best atmosphere Northeast has to offer.
Debbie Lang
So delicious! Decided to come here for our first anniversary, and it did not disappoint! Must try the sangria on nitro! That brisket...we could eat it all day long. Great service, fabulous food. Will come again!
Nauhar Rana
Lovely little cafe with a magical courtyard- very European! Felt like France or Spain! The Chacuterie is a must try! And their pizzas superb! A wait to be seated but service is quick once you have a table! A bit snooty compared to the rest of Minnesota, but worth a visit anyday! See folk running and on bikes along the Mississippi! Lovely views of the water! Some nice Kraft beers! Lovely afternoon!
Brady Bruesewitz
Amazing atmosphere, and great food! I’ve been here multiple times now and each time gets better! Poke bowl was to die for and so was the basil flatbread. Beautiful at night!
Steve Strong
Been going here for years. Atmosphere was great. Love the location. The food and menu has declined over the years.
Veronica Weissner
Preformed my first wedding here. It was perfect for the small wedding being held here. The tables were set up as my husband and I called it "last supper style" long tables were set up leaving enough room for a small dance floor. The wait staff was quick to serve us our different course meals. The beet salad was delicious and the mix of flavors were delightful. The filet was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The asparagus was crisp and paired well with the garlic mashed potatoes. The only thing I didn't like was the cafe had guest right outside other wedding ceremony part making it a public affair not so much of a private ceremony.
Matthew Przybylski
Great atmosphere with live music. Food menu is limited but all options seemed decent enough. Drinks are well above average though!
Sarah Guillot
Lovely space, we ate on the outdoor patio. It had a very classy-but-laidback vibe. There was live music going on inside, as well. Chicken Sharma bowl was yummy. Dog friendly.
Tamara Gordon
OMG, gluten free, vegan, gastronomy choices galore!! Mezzee appetizer stellar with gluten free crackers, beef stew and side salad. Yum!!! Nice selection of wine and IPA was Hideaway. Great view of downtown, such a romantic restaurant. Loved listening to Jillian Rae and the Changeups!
Beth Anderson
Cozy and unique spot for a tasty bite and music experience. Despite a busy night I felt cared for by the staff. They frequently checked in by simply filling water, and asking a couple of times if coffee needed refilling. My turkey BLT was a good portion without being insanely huge, had real turkey breast and the aoli elevated each bite. Tried out The Mirage, a non-alcoholic option, and it wasn't overly sweet which can happen with N/A. Reverend Hylton played, check him out on all of the social media, what a storyteller and singer!
Diane Afrooz
Love this place, it has the best view of downtown at night. The cocktails are excellent, and the food is too. They have live music sometimes, and the patio is dog friendly. I love walking to this place via Boom Island!
Maddy Funk
Seth was amazing!!! The best server ever. He would check in to make sure our experience was amazing! Highly recommend!!!
Stephen Cottingham
I love the atmosphere here! Cozy inside with a large outdoor seating area, and great views of the city! Fantastic food, and friendly staff as well.
A Johnson
We've been a fan of Aster for years and pretty much always enjoy our time there. On this visit it seemed like the tables were packed a little more tightly than before, and it was awkward navigating over and past people's legs/bags/coats to enter and exit the space. The beet salad was great!
Sarah Dragt
Charming establishment. Friendly staff. Great food. A must stop if you're in the area.
Dominic
Delicious freshly prepared healthy food. Nice outdoor dog friendly patio seating with a beautiful view of the river and downtown mpls. Good place to people watch.
Sarah Levorson
It's my favorite place to go in the Twin Cities. Great ambiance. They also have an outdoor patio that's perfect in the summer. They even have live music. Food is great cocktails are great. Just all around great!
ARJUN LOKESH
Lovely little cafe with some great food and even better ambience. Would be awesome to visit in the summer and be seated outside.
Michael Calhoun
We love this cozy spot by the river. Food is delicious, service is attentive. The shady patio with river views in the summer is perfect. Inside they've got a small stage and get they get some classy acts, saw Davina and the Vagabonds here a couple years back. Also, great place to bring your mom:)
Brody Clemmer
Aster was amazing. We came here on our Vaca to MN and needed a mimosa - we ended up staying and getting brunch because everything looked so good! It was fun, the staff was friendly and it was such a cool spot after a good walk through the park.
Betsey McKenzie
Great place to hang out with a small group. The patio is fabulous and the interior is cozy. Very European feel with a small seasonal menu. Tasty mixed drinks.
Maria B
The ham and bacon quiche was a delight. It was served with lightly dressed salad greens and breakfast potatoes. Perfect.
Randy Czarnetzki
The Aster Cafe offers a unique blend of retro warehouse atmosphere and a great outdoor patio area during the Summer. Their salad and steak offerings are also very good. Pricing mid to upscale. Plan to drop $75+/person if have a cocktail or two. There's a parking lot across the street that keeps you out of the weather. We worth a trip East across the river.
Todd Jelinski
Nice atmosphere. Nice service, but you have to get your own water. Service just takes your order and brings you your meal. Nothing special and don't really do anything to make you feel special. Food is outstanding!! Complements to the chef and cooking staff! And food was prepared and served quickly, granted we went at 4:30 for an early dinner. Dinner rush meal service may take a bit more time. This was our second time visiting. Will probably go again as they have a great menu and fantastic food. Just go with the expectation of average service.
Mike Rydberg
Fantastic music with Tina and Laura Schlieske.....great service and fantastic food.....love the atmosphere.
Matt Mead
Aster Cafe has been one of my favorite places since moving to Minneapolis almost 10 years ago. The space is beautiful and the food and drink never disappoint. They have live music often and there's always something going on near the river right across the street.
SlightlyAbove
Watermelon brisket tacos 10/10 softest tacos I've ever had great little treat. Great indoor and outdoor vibes!
Jeana Behnke
It was great seeing live music again at the Astor. It's a great location and atmosphere for a night out. I have had some issues with their menu in the past. I'll maybe get into hipster foods when all the starving children are fed. This time I ordered the street noodles, and they were so delicious!
Anais Long
Heck I love this place. One of the best views in town. Inside is a great cozy (dimly lit) space. Food is very tasty. Great artisan cocktails. But! Very pricey. Not the place to go every day, but a lovely place for a lunch or dinner date.
Chris Cheek
Nice part of town along the waterfront. I had food from the brunch menu. Great staff, fast friendly service despite being busy.
John Gronowski
The food was good and we liked sitting outside. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is we were sat along the building in a corner.
Alex G.
Really fast service! We had dinner on the patio, I enjoyed the Schwarma Bowl and my partner thought the Turkey Club was pretty good. I got the Bahama Baby Cocktail and would definitely get it again. Their service was on point, we got served right after our drinks came out. The sights were nice to take in while having a drink or two. The patio was shaded well and dog friendly!
Samantha Smith
Excellent food! Wonderful atmosphere. A must visit!
Tracey Fleisher
Very cool and hip place to have something different. Try the Brisket Street Tacos with Feta and Watermelon!
Cynthia Erickson
Loved sitting outside. We had a 25 minute wait at about 6:30 pm on a Friday. Had the shawarma bowl. It seemed like a slightly smaller serving compared to prior to the pandemic. Hopefully that will revert to the quantity it was earlier, once restaurants get back on their feet a bit more. But the food was great as was my beer. A very relaxing evening on a lovely summer day.
Shane Schatz
Had a party in one of the side rooms. Great food and great drinks. Everyone enjoyed the night.
CT Neal-Herman
Wow! The ambiance at this place is fantastic. We just sat on the patio eating and drinking the night away with a someone playing guitar wonderfully in the background. The food was fantastic. The beet salad is superb. Their sangria really hit the spot. I don't think I'll pass another summer in Minneapolis without coming here.
Brian Wene
I've loved the Aster for a few years and I will continue being a devoted patron for a long time. If you enjoy live music then you must see the exceptional talent scheduled. The intimacy of the staging is very nice. I've especially been devoted to the Saturday morning event called 'Bluegrass Brunch' which is a free event on Saturday mornings from 11:00am to 1:00pm occurring in the winter time. The music residencies occurring feature some of the finest local artists. The food is splendid and the staff are some of the nicest folk you've ever met. The Aster Cafe is one of my top picks for live music in the Twin Cities. Make it a point to visit, you will not be disappointed.
Rb Black
Attended a celebration of life for a departed friend from 1- 5 pm. Arrived around 3:45 driving in from South Dakota. At the bar they delayed a glass of wine as they weren't sure the tab was still open. Then at 4:30 they had our host, my friend's daughter, "push" us out the door.
WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ASTER for this type of event! Not only were they unwelcoming but this was a difficult day for my departed friend's daughter. To put pressure on her to have us OUT by 4:45 was inexcusable!!
Todd Garber
It was busy. Service little slow but understandable. Good was good for my limited taste buds. I would recommend and will go there again.
Taja Hueysuwan
Perfect weather to enjoy outdoor dining... our waiter was amazing, cheesecake too!
Josh Morrison
Aster Cafe is a very welcoming environment, the staff are phenomenal, courteous, friendly, and well versed on the restaurants menu items. I highly recommend making a stop at this cafe! It is a bucket list eatery that needs to be checked off if you are a resident of the area or just passing through Twin Cities.
Mike Dolbow
The Aster Cafe is an intimate, stunning location and the staff is terrific. One of the best sound techs in the area means you're in for a treat if you catch some live music there!
Mari Jo Bell
Excellant food. Great music. Jbell Lazy Susan Band are incredible.
Tami Riner
Great atmosphere.! My food tasted great! Only downside was my spicy noodles were a smaller portion than the other 2 dishes at the table. I'll be back but will order something else.
Rachel S
Pretty tasty salmon salad and poke bowl.
Bridget Jordan
Got married here in 2015 - it was lovely and staff were professional and helpful day of. Celebrated our 5 yr anniversary here recently and they went out of their way to check in and them comp’d our drinks and dessert. 5 star service then and now! Plus always have solid vegetarian and vegan upon request menu items. Can’t beat the ambiance of their patio OR the dining room!
alayna foran
Great little place. Loved the atmosphere, jazz & dancing at brunch, definitely unique! Nice brunch menu, not too overwhelming. I ordered the best brunch mashup I could ever want: Eggs Benedict & Biscuits and Gravy, hit the spot!
Service was great too, quick and friendly.
*Only drawback was that it was borderline too dark in there on a Sunday morning, especially in the back of the restaurant, next time I will have to try out the patio!
Lauren Aust
The patio space is so magical. Go for happy hour!
Clean Windows
Amazing food. Loved my pot pie.
Jamal Adam
First time I've been to Aster Cafe. It's got a great ambiance with a rustic older feel to it that I enjoyed. It's in St. Anthony Main so it's a perfect location to grab a chai or coffee with someone. I can see it as a wonderful spot to hit up either before or after a nice walk on the brick road and towards the St. Anthony Falls and the Mississippi River. It's a wonderful location. I had the Bunmi sandwich which came with their soup of the day, turkey wild rice. It was great and I would certainly recommend it. My friend had the tacos and he enjoyed it as well. Overall, a great spot. Maybe next time we'll sit outside in the patio and enjoy some sun once the weather permits. Sadly didn't capture any photos.
Art Pop Omaha
Outstandig food, outstanding service.....Thank you Matt!! And outstanding atmosphere!!
Chris Corpora
Gorgeous building, wonderful atmosphere and an excellent brunch!
Paul Friedrichsen
The street noodles had an amazing texture of the soft noodles mixed with crunchy veggies. However, the dressing was primarily spicy with the occasional taste of peanut. Needs a more consistent and balanced flavor profile.
The toppings on the apple bacon bleu flatbread were a perfect balance of flavor and cooked to just the right point. The flatbread itself could be seasoned with more salt and herb to elevate the dish even more.
Their mixed drinks are exceptional. Their bartender really knows what they are doing to create such wonderfully tasty and refreshing drinks.
Katie Mauger
Beautiful little place with an amazing atmosphere. If you want to go somewhere that feels a bit fancy but not pretentious, this is a great spot. We came here for a date and to work on some wedding planning (pre-covid), and staff were very friendly and helpful. They didn't mind us having papers and wedding planning books out on the table either. We had hors d'oeuvres and some really tasty wine that was recommended by wait staff. Will definitely come here again!
Noel Voss
Super neat place! My first time there. Excellent service! They have classic cocktails and some unique ones! They had a live band when we were there. Cute space with a cozy atmosphere. I'm sure it's great in the summer with patio season!
Isaac M
Great spot for an evening happy hour on the patio on a summer or fall evening. Inside can get too crowded, but the patio is lit up with cute string lights with warm, yellow lighting. Pair that with the cobble stone plus a view of the river, and it becomes a great spot to relax. We grabbed beers for a late night happy hour. It’s easily a romantic spot to be or a spot friends could go.
Paul Bernhardt
Both cocktails and the sangria we sampled were delicious--no one flavor dominating, but creating a well-blended new flavor out of all the ingredients. The flat bread we ordered was similar: savory and delicious and neither over- not undercooked, without any one note being overpowering.
Our server was affable and highly professional. There's a lovely view of downtown. The lighting level is a bit lower than usual, for atmosphere. Call ahead, check their Web page, or take home a calendar of their live music schedule.
The Gospel of Thomas Sunday
A small but delicious, eclectic lunch and brunch menu, with an interesting selection of specialty cocktails. The patio is charming and with views of the Mississippi River that's just across the street.
Jamie Hopkins
I can't even tell you how much I loved this place. I have been wanting to go here forever and just hadn't made it. The ambience is so cozy and amazing, the service was good and the food was great! We went for lunch and I had the Salmon Lox plate, it was SO good! My mom had a salad with chicken that was also very good. Aster cafe is in the most beautiful area. It was perfect for a Saturday afternoon stroll out over the river after lunch. It would also be an amazing location for date night as there is a little movie theater in the same building.
Go! Check it out. You will fall in love.
Nina Hale
Delicious food and great atmosphere. in the summer they have a wonderful and popular outdoor patio. The entire restaurant has a lovely view of the Mississippi river and downtown Minneapolis. There is good music by local musicians playing almost every night.
My only complaint is that I still think every semi-casual restaurant should have a burger option. Though I did have a fantastically decadent roast beef sandwich last time I was there.
Aditya Gupta
It's an amazing restaurant but really good food and drinks . Definately worth a try .
Joshua Holmes
Cute place with a great outdoor patio alongside the river. Lots of outdoor seating. Decent sized portions that are on the pricey-side, but well worth it for taste and quality, in addition to the location. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back. With outdoor seating, the restaurant doesn’t really do a list or reservations so there may be a slight wait.
Joshua Draves-Kellerman
It was a beautiful night with family and friends- lovely food, lovely ambience, lovely service! We love this place here in joshtown.
Barbara Bakal
A great evening spent on the patio. Social distancing was excellent. Service was top notch and friendly. They are adding on a 3% Covid tax, but it's worth it to be out and feel safe. Didn't love my sandwich, but that's a personal preference thing.
Nick Ott
After talking to a friend who works at Aster about the best things on the menu, the employee recommended the Brisket Tacos and Street Noodles with chicken. By large margins, the food was meh, and we were not satisfied. The three pushed-together tables that we sat at were close to level, but not level enough to keep drinks upright. This caused a few spills of water and red wine. Glad we were wearing black pants!
Greg Hanley
Aster Cafe has an excellent location, environment and food. However, the service is lacking. We had a party of seven on Sunday for brunch. We were seated quickly in a nice, shade-covered spot.
From there, we spent a lot of time waiting. Our server finally arrived and took our drink orders. After we received our drinks we waited again for her to take the food order. After we received our food she did not come back unless we asked another server to send her over...twice.
When she came with the electronic bill, the tip options start at 20% and had to be completed with her standing there. She deserved no tip at all. When we tried to get her attention, she was behind the bar talking with co-workers. She never looked at our table or checked in with us.
Nicholas Kvalheim
We came here to watch fireworks along the river. The patio is beautiful at night and it has a wonderful view of the city, as long as you aren't too far back in the patio area. The cocktails we're great, and the food was delicious. Very reasonable prices as well. We didn't go inside, but from the outside it looked nice.
Jordan Hogness
A pleasant place with a large patio. At slower times, it can be quite intimate. Service has always been good. The food, while not opening my eyes to a new plane of existence, has always been quite solid. The menu is small, but I can definitely appreciate concentrating on doing a few dishes well so no demerits on that count. I’m not too hard to please, but I think the drinks are great. Would be nice to have more nonalcoholic cocktails, because they do them quite well.
Caitlin Johnson
One of my favorite places for a sophisticated chill atmosphere with live music.
Sebastian Raphael
Great historical location, delicious food and drinks
Shelby Edwards
Go early to get a table for brunch. Service was slow but good overall. Coffee refills were consistent. View is spectacular - rent a scooter to continue on and enjoy more of it. This place is all about timing; try to get there prior to 10:30 am for brunch on the weekend to be seated immediately. Women's bathroom is unfortunate.
Mara Greenebaum
This was our first dine-out experience since the start of the lockdown, and we were very pleased. Food, wine, and cocktails we're all delicious and reasonably priced. From our patio table we could see bridges across the Mississippi as well as several landmark Minneapolis buildings. The tables on the patio were spaced nicely to allow social distancing while maintaining a sense of normalcy. Thank you for being open and letting me almost forget we were in three middle of a pandemic!
Mellen
Really amazing atmosphere. The patio looked super, but the wait was too long so we were immediately seated inside. The drinks were very tasty and staff was so kind and helpful. I'd def recommend this place for a date night, or fun night out with friends.
Kaitlyn Iliff
How can you not love this location with the view? We stopped by a bit ago but had great service and an outdoor table with a view. Most of their outdoor tables have a view and it is gorgeous. You sit there an enjoy good food, good service and a wonderful view of Minneapolis. Stop here!
Bryan Herbst
Great food and great drinks. The outdoor space is absolutely phenomenal, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending an evening there. It feels surprisingly secluded with the trees, and the decor makes for a quaint atmosphere. We can't wait to go back and try more of the food!
Peter Brady
One of the best patios in St. Anthony, especially for a larger group!
Nicole Goette
Can't believe this was my first time there! The patio is fantastic. Flatbread had creative ingredients cooked just right and the pitcher of sangria went down easy. The wait staff were all nice and seemed to enjoy being there. New favorite patio.
Alexandra Bronstad
Great venue for up close live music. Good food and beverages. Friendly, helpful staff.
Alyssa Joye
Aster has always been our go-to place for dates or special occasions. Giving 4 stars because of the experience today. Our flatbreads this afternoon were so good, but I was so disappointed with the dessert that I brought home: Hibiscus and Lemon Carlotta. Please taste the yellow sauce you put with the dessert before serving it. Ours tasted strongly like plastic or something that is more of a chemical than food. No issue with service at all, just disappointed with this dessert. :(
Meghan Buck
Amazing service and staff! I recently worked with the Aster Cafe on a client's wedding day and have nothing but awesome things to say about Aster Cafe and the team there. They were so willing to help with anything our client's needed to enjoy their wedding day to the fullest and as a vendor, they were not only easy to work with but they were also fun and efficient! The food was great and all of the guests loved it. Would love to host many more events with them and hope to work with them again in the future.
Charles Gustavson
You have got to go see Patty and the Buttons for Sunday brunch call first and get a table. Get ready for some kickass swing dancing
Isabel Seibert
The atmosphere and service was really amazing. Their vegan options were very disappointing. I looked up "vegan brunch near me" and this popped up. Unfortunately they really don't have many vegan options at all, I had to get sides. The vegan sausage was very good, the potatoes had nice seasoning, and the fruit was fresh. Our server said they used to have more vegan brunch options so let's hope they bring them back soon! The live music was a very nice suprise.
Tim Kennedy
Aster's patio might be the best in town. It sits on the original Main Street in Minneapolis, just off the banks of the Mississippi River. The food and service rival the view of downtown. On this visit we enjoyed the strawberry and cashew salad, and the street noodle bowl. Both were well conceived and flavorful. The subtle live music was delightful evidence of Aster's attention to detail. We have visited multiple times, and Aster has yet to disappoint.
John Farrell
Food was excellent although our server was absent for long periods. The tables nearby got quick service, though, so you might get lucky. Wonderful patio made the wait less tiresome and shawarma bowl was tasty.
Vanessa Tieman
The food is so delicious (had meat quiche and brisket grits), but the bloody Marys weren't very flavorful. Great outdoor patio in a great location.
Stacy Salinas
Even though it was during the Stone Arch festival, and father's day, the service was great(thanks, Matt!)and so was the food! I ordered the English pea and asparagus salad and a cup of soup, I'll definitely be back for the salad on a less crowded day, it was tasty. Nice old building! Large patio is attached.
S Gabriela
The atmosphere is amazing, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious! Unexpected ingredients come together perfectly, such as the brisket tacos with jalapeños, feta, watermelon and cilantro! If you're in the area, this is a great spot to check out; if you're not in the area - then drive to the area and grab a table here ;)
Grace Chryssomallis
Excellent cocktails and charcuterie board. Friendly bartenders. Love the space and the live music. Great spot for happy hour, but not sure about dinner anymore - they must have gotten new ownership or something because they shortened their menu quite a bit and now there's a lot less variety.
Christopher Garrett
While the menu selection isn't exhaustive, it provides ample choices for variety. The flatbreads are delicious. The drinks are well-crafted. On select evenings there is live music. Parking can be challenging, so arrive early if you have reservations.
Harry Spruill
Gorgeous place, great setting, amazing food and drinks and in a beautiful neighborhood!
Topo Gigio
No reservations for the patio; sometimes there's a bit of a wait as people sip on their water long after their meals are over, not their fault.
The food is really tasty. The braised beef tacos and the pulled pork sandwich are at the top of my list.
Dustin Antoine
Couldn't decide between two desserts, so we got both, and learned you can't go wrong. Our server suggested a paired drink that really complimented what we had very well. A great experience!
Brad Strand
Probably the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had in my life. Why not 5 stars though? Price and portions. $14 for the small sized sandwich with a hand full of chips. Any other side items are extra money. Decent part of town, just no value here
Mike Larkin
We had a reservation at Jefe (same owners) that was botched so went to grab a drink at Aster while we waited for a table. When the bartender (Charlie is the man) overheard us talking about they remedied things immediately. Amazing service. Amazing people. Amazing drinks. Amazing food.
Kacee Berthold
This place is great! I love the patio and there is an excellent view. The food is fresh and very good. In the summer this place is always packed!
Leif
Great location, but WAY over priced for mediocre food. Plus they sneak in a 4% "2021 surcharge" on your bill at the end.... Also, be sure to request a table away from the wait stationas b/c it kinda smells like a garbage can .
Bree Carlson
The atmosphere is lovely whether you sit inside or out. Highly recommend starting with a cheese plate or charcuterie board. We also love their Flatbread and signature cocktails. Unique little gem on the river.
Donna Garland
VERY good service! Service is super important to me regardless of food. However, the food in this place was also spot on. We enjoyed the tree lined street and outdoor seating area. Menu made it hard for me to pick!
Christoph Le
Great outdoor patio. Great food. Great location
Aaron Stine
Not really my kind of place. The ambiance is good, but too often there's a bad band playing, a strange book reading, whatever else. The food is fine but is way too expensive for what it is. Tap list is mediocre.
The staff is shockingly beautiful. Not a normal looking one among them.
Daniel Pekurovsky
Great food. A bit on the pricier side but mostly makes up for it in food quality. I've heard the cocktails are also very good. Definitely a place to support
Eric Henly
Food was good, service was cafe-good/restaurant-okay if that makes sense. Atmosphere was nice and cozy and I don't usually complain about lighting unless it's too bright, but this was so dark that it was difficult to read the menu. Overall, the menu lacked focus and could've included a few more items in general or at least more options within the categories available. For instance, the flatbreads section had two selections, it would have been nice to have a few more choices. The menu notated GF/vegetarian/vegan options but was confusing whether this was as ordered or needed to be requested specifically - even our waitress agreed on this. The women's restroom sink only had cold water, super frustrating. I guess I would love to go back and give it another chance if these thoughts were addressed.
steve esler
I wasn't impressed with this place. I had to wait for my drink for to long. The guy beside me waited about 20 minutes for his food(soup and a sandwich) but he loves the place. I myself got my sandwich pretty quick. Super dark ambiance like they want to compete with the rich places which explains why the high prices($12 for a club sandwich which was only so so). Probably won't go again.
Kristina Paraiso
I went here with a bunch of my high school friends before we leave for college, and it couldn't have been a better place to do that. The location of this restaurant is remarkably close to the Stone Arch Bridge (around a 7-10 min walk) and the park. So if you don't have your table yet, I suggest you take a lap around the area and take some beautiful pictures of the Minnesota sunset. When we got inside, the place was rather dark. The only source of light was the big Aster sign and some little candles on the table. The service there was not exceptionally amazing, but they were nice. I ordered the chicken shawarma bowl. Let's just say that the server said that every time he eats here he always orders that. And I truly understand why he would always order it.
Camren Notermann
Amazing scenery, cannot be beat for it's ambiance !!!
Ahmed Abuali
Very nice place, nice music and good drinks, I will visit again
Hannah Brown
Our drinks were good, well priced at the 1/2 off happy hour special. The menu was limited, looked artfully done but it wasn't good enough to get us to eat there. Seemed to be a good place for small plates and the shady outdoor seating was nice.
Lexie White
One of my favorite places in this area! The drinks are delicious and highly recommend the mezze platter! So fresh and goes great with wine!
Rachael Aanestad
Aster Cafe has a perfectly intimate, cozy ambiance. The lighting, the layout, the stage, the bar, the volume of music - it's all very well done, a very comfortable place to have dinner and drinks. Aster is excellent at booking the best local artists that fit into this cozy environment. Food is great, bartenders know what they're doing behind the bar, servers are friendly and attentive.

I had an amazing experience dining in at Aster cafe! My boyfriend and I went couple weeks ago, we were few minutes early but they seated us right away! The restaurant was packed but the service was superb!! The food delicious. My Favorite dish was the dessert, Apple cobbler with icecream.. nomnom 😀 …
Yvonne Raia
Eclectic menu, cool atmosphere. It's nice to get out of the downtown area yet still be on the water. I was visiting from out of town on business. Went for dinner with a few colleagues. We enjoyed sitting outside, live music, good food and beer on a warm summer night.
Harlie Lane
Awesome swing dancing brunch every Sunday, but limited food options, and it is very dark inside. Staff are friendly, music artists are usually very good, and the patio outside is really nice. Great location for Minneapolis views.
Shivii William
Good place to hangout but not many options for brunch and breakfast. Would love to see how live music is in evening
William Porter
My wife and I had a very pleasant breakfast here in August 2019. I had french toast, she had veggie quiche. Everything good: food, coffee, orange juice and service. And eating outside was lovely: we don't do that a lot back home in Texas.
Moises Cruz
Love this place! Great view, nice atmosphere, delicious food and drinks. Their flat bread is on point and the ancient beer my favorite! Patio is huge but it's very popular, so make sure to come early to get nice seating!
Jomns
Came at about 1:10 for lunch. We were informed that it would be an hour wait which was not a big deal. You can get drinks and sit and people watch. It appeared that they wanted to clear out the brunch people before seating the lunch people. The wait was fine except when I had ordered off that menu, what I had wanted they ran out off. Why switch over menus if you will not be able to give us what we want. When we got our food, it was good. The service was ok at best. Took our order, checked in once, had to notify her that we wanted to pay.
Brandon S
Great place. Nice menu. Everything tasted great that we ordered.
Dean Holmes
Affordable food done with flair. I had the grilled cheese and beef chili, and I was amazed at how good the tomatoes were in the sandwich, considering the season. The atmosphere is lovely, and if I find myself in the area again I'll definitely return.
j Stewart
This is a great place with ambiance a fantastic food. The food is great for vegetarians and vegans as well as for us regular folks. They also have music events for local and small acts which are intimate sets. Staff are attentive with outstanding service.
Mary Robinson
The outdoor patio had a wonderful view. Such a friendly vibe here. The service is incredible as well. We had the sausage, eggs benedict, which was wonderful. I also had the shakshuka! It was very spicy, which I love. A lovely combination of poached eggs, tomatoes and lots of spices.
Farzane Takbiri
If you like a moderately healthy food but yet delicious, that is the place to go. The theme is Mediterranean, a little pricey but would be still worth the combination of food and the great view of the Main Street. I recommend going there on Friday and/or Saturday afternoons and or evenings. Make sure to get a reservation ahead of time.
Dean Joy
Attended a private wedding in the river room. Drink's were prefect. Salad and dinner was excellent. Parking and tunnel is great.
Will be back again. Staff did an excellent job.
Annona Sales
Sunday Brunch yesterday. The food was good as was the music which is the only reason I gave them 3 stars. We had to keep asking for coffee, we had to ask if we could please order. She did not ask if we wanted dessert, another drink or anything. The hostess then came over and told us there was a reservation for our table in 20 minutes. Basically, get out. We were there for less than 1 1/2 hours at that point. Really disgusted with the service.
Patrick Hamilton
Great brunch off of the menu with very clean plates at the end. Service was very good. Standard Benedict and shrimp Benedict were hits along with biscuits and gravy. Portions were appropriate.
Sam Van Cook
Great ambience. Service was also professional, friendly and present.
Had the bacon apple flat bread and the brisket tacos. I'd do the flat bread again for sure. The tacos we're good but didn't really wow me.
Jessica Wicklund
Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates an eclectic space with genuine staff and hand crafted food and drinks. Their brunch menu is incredible! Would highly recommend going on a weekend to see local musicians and bands. Parking can be difficult on weekends, so prepare to walk a couple blocks. All together, such a great find in Northeast Minneapolis!
Laura Hupp
Ok so we mostly were here for drinks, so I can't really speak to the food quality. However, the cocktails were phenomenal! This beauty was called soon road, I believe. I had to have two of them.
We loved the ambience and the location by the river.
Lydia Roth-Laube
The outdoor ambience is fabulous situated along the Mississippi River. . The food iwe ate was delicious.. Strawberry chicken cashew salad and chicken pita sandwich. The service was superb.
Kaleigh Carroll
Stumbled upon this spot while visiting Minneapolis. Chicken noodle soup is amazing and good selections of local brews. Best part was the friendliness of the bartender and waitress. They gave me recommendation after recommendation of where I should visit/check out while in town. They should start their own brewery tour with their knowledge of all the local breweries! :) might have to schedule my second trip to the twin cities to check every tick on their recommendation list!
Rob Bechtel
My girlfriend and I wanted to go to a nice dinner after seeing Hilton. Reviews stated it was a nice romantic spot. It was not as romantic as expected but it had a wonderful atmosphere.
I ordered the bibimbap bowl. I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. It has just the right amount of spice, the egg was a creamy over medium, the BBQ short rib was tender and juicy and just melted away with every bite.
I ordered the Aster New Old Fashioned. It was a fun twist on a traditional that I would definitely suggest to old fashioned fans.
Cole Carter
This place is fantastic! Great vibes. Stop in for some coffee or maybe a drink. They make a good meet up spot for friends, family or date night. Located right off the river, you can't go wrong. The scenic walking patches nearby make you forget that you are in the city.
Heidi Engen
Fun atmosphere. Delicious turkey sandwich with quality bacon. I was pleasantly surprised by the creamy spinach salad. I plan to order both again. I look forward to their outdoor patio in the summer.
Nick Swayne
One visit. Easy to find, so a future friend scheduled a meetup there. Cozy, warm, good food, great beer. What more could you ask for?
Sherry Jackson
Can always count on a great menu and pleasant atmosphere here. Perfect for a warm day on their patio sipping from a pitcher of their sangria with a friend.
Alyssa Vander Galien
I came here twice in two weeks and want to go back! I had a different cocktail each time and loved both. They put a lovely spin on traditional drinks and food. The chocolate mousse with balsamic honey whipped cream is a must have as well as the bahn mi with the vegan meat. The inside can get a bit cramped but the patio is spacious with fantastic views. This is a great place for after work hh or a weekend afternoon. Free parking is almost impossible to come by but the ramp is relatively inexpensive.
Heather K
The waitress was great, the food was excellent. Wish I would have gotten the bahn mi sandwich, I will just have to return to try it. The turkey BLT is huge and awesome. The cold sweet corn soup is tasty as well as the strawberry quinoa salad, just wish I had more berries in it to loosen up all that quinoa! Cannot wait to try their brunch!
Guillermo Fajardo Sotelo
I love coming here because of the great atmosphere, spacious outdoor seating, and always quick and accurate service. Highly recommended. All of the drinks and appetizers I have tried have been delicious as well.
Jason Tintes
Had great time eating and drinking on the patio. Good people watching and the food was pretty good.. we enjoyed or food and drinks.. service was great too..
Vaishnavi Soundar
It’s not the food but the beer and the music nights that drove me to this place. The stone streets leading up to it, the riverside setting with patio seating gives a great vibe! It’s usually packed on weekends and you almost always need a reservation, but nevertheless, it’s worth it!
Joe Anderson
Let me start out by saying my wife and I love this place, both the atmosphere and the food. This review is specifically a "watch out" for anyone booking for holidays (Valentine's Day or Anniversaries).
We made sure to make our reservations 3 - 4 weeks in advance. They had plenty of space, so no issues there. In my reservation notes, I added that we would like to be near the window, if possible. The restaurant called the week before to confirm our reservation. During the call, I brought up my reservation notes and was told they would update the reservation to reflect our seating request, but couldn't make promises due to it being Valentines Day (I completely understand this position.)
Fast forward to Valentines Day, we arrive to a mostly empty restaurant. The Host takes us to our table, which is located nowhere close to the windows, despite there being many table open near the front of the restaurant. I bring up this point with the Host and am told that there's absolutely no way they can change a table assignment on Valentines Day, which caught me off-guard, especially since the tables we wanted were open (and some remained open throughout our entire stay.) I'm hoping there was just confusion on what our actual request was, but it was just hard to swallow given the table we wanted was open when we arrived.
We arrived at 5:15pm and needed to depart by 6:30pm for the next stop on our date night. Our waiter was great! He was friendly, knew the menu well, and was very quick an attentive to our needs. Absolutely no issues with him (wish we could remember his name!). The real issue was with the back of the house. My wife (vegetarian) ordered the risotto, which was a special item for Valentines day. After about 10 minutes, our waiter came back, and said that the risotto would not be available until 6pm since it was not quite ready yet. No big deal, a new menu can be difficult to master. He then came out 10 minutes later, however, and said that the risotto wouldn't be ready until 6:30, which would no longer work with our schedule. My wife looked at the menu, but had trouble finding something else vegetarian that "fit" the mood and atmosphere of the night. She settled for the vegan brisket tacos, which was definitely not the fine meal we were expecting for valentines day. Again, our waiter was great, and we could tell it was painful for him every time he had to come back and give us the bad news. He absolutely did the best he could (he even paid for our first round of drinks!)
Overall, its a great restaurant for a casual outing or a fun date night, but they just didn't seem prepared for an event like Valentines Day for the items mentioned above. We will absolutely be back, but not for a special event.
Matthew Weiser
Always a delight coming to the Aster. Had family in from out of town and this was the perfect place for brunch and some great live music. The setting is intimate, packed and bustling. Decor is industrio-rustic (exposed beams, bricks, a rough wood floor and amazing fixtures in a very old building) and, for us, very appealing.
The food was excellent, with interesting little twists (Korn Flake crusted blueberry French toast? C'mon! That was delicious!) Biscuits and gravy are top notch (Only my wife's are better) and their house version of Eggs Benedict was also very, very good. Highly recommend you try one of the house cocktails as well.
Suggest a reservation as the place is typically busy on the weekend; though they use a good on-line system. We'll be back again, to be certain.
Yury Petrov
А great place with an ambience, tasty food, great service, good music, and river views. What more can one wish on a cold snowy morning?
Kyle Cranston
If you are trying to go see some live entertainment, make sure to call ahead and make reservations. They do not communicate that very well online. But the Hostess was very nice and made sure we were given a few free drink vouchers for their sister restaurant in the same building. Not our first choice, but still had a great time at Hideaway.....
Nick Reynolds
Cool space. I was there for a private event, the space was cool overlooking Main St and the river with DT in the background. Food (taco bar) was excelent, drink prices were on the high side at $7 for a domestic tap.
I will visit Aster again, I'd like to check out the patio and some of their other food offerings.
Johan Podlewski
Great food, and their flat bread are delicious! I normally love their alcohols too, but the waiter suggested a very bad white wine for my friend last time we went. Will still go there again though for sure!
Mikky Daub
Great place to go sit on a sunny patio after walking around the river or to check out some jazz!
Nat Graham
The food is just ok. The atmosphere is great, so is the patio. The turkey blt was nothing I could not make at home. Plain bread, not toasted, cold turkey, no sauce or anything so it was pretty dry. My wife thought the same about her sandwich.
Chelsie GawneMark
Lovely location on the river. Decent meal choices but nothing to wow. Drink menu could use some work especially in the dry/sparkling area. Tremendously difficult to find good parking; best to walk to.
Kezia Germ
A beautiful little place to make a special night. The food was lovely and served promptly, the cocktail selection is exciting and creative, and the music and the ambiance made me want to stay all evening. It might be expensive, but it's the perfect place to take someone you care about. Well worth the price.
Niklas Banks
Great food. Great service. Definitely has more of a bistro vibe than a cafe vibe but they probably had that name for a while. It can be a little pricey but the food is absolutely worth it.
Zachary S
The atmosphere and location of this place was great. Unfortunately the drinks and food were average. They were trying to be hip and cool with their menu, but it didn't really work. It wasn't bad, but it didn't wow me.
Ryan Lea
Oh man, where do I begin… From the superb service to the amazing tasting food, our trip to Asters was phenomenal! We had Sam as our waitress and we were not disappointed. I had the chefs special flatbread and my partner had the chicken shawarma naan. Both rich with taste and very affordable. We will definitely return. And ask for Sam. Who is there to greet you with a personal warm friendly welcome.
Stephanie Jacobson
Love this place! The location makes it feel like a vacation. Food and drinks are great.
William Boland
Really hard to beat the ambiance of the interior. Beautifully decorated and the lighting is spectacular (meaning it's cool but dim so bring your phone flashlight if you have bad eyes... And also meaning if you're feeling particularly un-cute, the lighting will be your friend). The patio in the summer has a great vibe,as does pretty much anything on St. Anthony Main. Highly recommend stopping here in the day/evening for patio time and at night for the ambiance inside along with the live music.
Jeremy Whitmore
Great local beers, very good food, and terrific atmosphere. I'm from out of town and tried this place from internet reviews, definitely a great find! We had the Gnocchi, Korean BBQ pulled pork, and the Prume Rib sandwich; all we delicious.
Alicia Patrick
Our dinners were delicious and the portion sizes were perfect. The outdoor patio seating is lovely.
Steve Gjerdingen
The best time to come here is in the summer time because they have quite the patio setup! If you want to come here during the rest of the year, I highly recommend coming around on Sundays noon due to the excellent jazz band and dance culture! Things tend to be a bit more on the expensive side.
codycmiller11
This is an amazing place for daytimelunch. Grab a seat outside and try something from the very good tap list. The lunches are simple, think soup and sandwiches, but done very well. The area is awesome for taking a walk across the Stone Arch bridge
Patience Metal Fabrication
Great views from the patio, and they allow dogs! Food is pretty good if your looking for light small plates. Decent cocktail menu and beers.
Anita Larson
It's a nice location but I prefer other places in the area.
Joel Smith
Such a gem! We enjoy having brunch here. The food is amazing. The location is my favorite! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice patio spot. Dog friendly :)
Sunderta Kaur
Great menu for healthy options. It was so nice to sit out on the patio. I offered the gnocchi and it was very good. I appreciated the non-alcoholic beverage option.
Yvonne DeAntoneo
Loved this cafe along the river. Fun jazz band for Sunday brunch.
Laurie Warren
Unique and tasty food, excellent service and a nice, shady spot on the patio.
Thomas Connors
A favorite spot for patio dining. The food is fabulous and the location can't be beat! We always walk the loop across the Stone Arch Bridge then along the trails on River Road across the Plymouth Ave Bridge, Boom Island, Nicollet Island and back to the restaurant. It is one of my favorite urban hikes!
Cathy Rindels
Wonderful! Food was awesome as well as the drinks
Nora Doherty
For a busy Sunday over lunchtime, the staff was friendly, accommodating, and upbeat. The food was great and prices fair. Both the tofu torta and chocolate mousse are highly recommend!!
Lisa Robinson
The perfect place to enjoy a mojito and the view on a summer night.
Allison Don
Long wait for the patio, but well worth it. Interesting food choices, very attentive service. Stay away from the wine, very overpriced! If you must, stick with the house wine. The house red is decent and $6 is much better then $14 for a pino nior!
Peter Thomas
Cozy, woody, classy joint...GREAT supporters of local music, from folky sets, to upscale world-class funky like Jellybean Johnson and other folks who played and recorded with Prince, staged in their adjoining larger music space with room to dance!
Smaller band set ups happen right inside the café...sometimes both at once, and in the old brick building, it's easy to have separate music experience just through that doorway...delicious food, killer wine list, friendly professional service.
Eric Haugen
Excellent patio, spectacular view.... mediocre to bad on everything else.
ZMR
The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, and their food/drinks are well made. Staff was very friendly and efficient, I think we waited less than 10min for our food to come out on a Saturday night!
Mike W
This is one of our regular stops when we bike ride along West River Pkwy and the Stone Arch Bridge. We are never disappointed. It's always a pleasure to take a lunch break at the Aster. I wish we lived in the area so we could enjoy evenings and their music lineup more often.
Renie Shoberg
Awesome three season patio, live music most weekends, great menu. If you like a whiskey old fashioned, try the new fashioned with bourbon and blackberry.
Andrew Czernek
We held a groom's dinner in a private room at the cafe. The meals were restaurant quality with excellent wines for the guests. Though the area is crowded, there is ample parking 1 block away from the river.
Kelly Schultz
Excellent food and service! Love the atmosphere! We had the Chicken Schwarma mean wrap and it was the best ever. So was the cold corn soup! Amazing!
Travis Noffke
Aster Café is one of my favorite places near downtown Minneapolis!! (Those two exclamation points are well-deserved.)
Whether for a date night along the scenic Saint Anthony & Main region near the river or even for a wedding reception, both to which I can speak from experience, you’ll be sure to have fine beverages, delicious food, and impeccable ambience. Their lantern-lit garden is a choice spot in the summer and the dark, cozy tables inside are the ideal spot to get close for some conversation or live music.
Whether you come her often or infrequently, it is bound to leave a lasting impression.
Cheers!
Ahmed Sabry
Nice music and good drinks, I will visit again
Tiffany Morgan
Quiet, dark, sexy, date night vibes!
E S
To date, I’ve (surprisingly) only eaten at your awesome restaurant twice.
Both were very special occasions/celebrations for me, so your staff and restaurant have a special place in my heart 😇 🙏
I’m looking forward to eating out on your awesome patio all I can this summer ❗️😎
See you soon, my friends!
Be well...
Ellie Randall
Great atmosphere, good food, and pretty good service. Not the best brunch we’ve ever had but worth going back for.
Jennifer Davis
I had a lovely first date here, when we accidentally ordered a liter of wine rather than 750 ml. We talked for hours and had a little flatbread with bacon and caramelized onions. He probably wonders why we didn't have a second date and I think I would have to say because of the weird car kiss. But that isn't on Aster café. The patio will be shady and breezy on the river during the summer.
christine mau
Make a reservation if you want a table for Sunday brunch. We sat down at 10:15 and the place was packed by 11:00. Live music and a diverse menu made for a great place to catch up over a casual brunch.
Nathaniel Norton
Good food and drinks. Great tacos! Superb music! (Though the performed the night I went's a friend of mine, so I could be slightly bias.) Costs a little more, but it was reflected in quality.
Danielle Shamsi
Aster gets an A for atmosphere. When I first discovered the riverfront area in the late fall after the end of patio season I knew Ibhad to come back to Aster when it was open. The large open patio space under the trees with pretty lights and interesting iron work was so enticing. We decided to give it a try on the fourth of July. I give them points for seating us quickly despite how busy it was and easily accommodating our baby in a rather large stroller. That was the end of our swift service - it took forever for our very simple entrees to come out, but I'll forgive that since the 4th is undoubtedly a rather unusual day. The atmosphere was as delightful as we expected.
As for the food and drink, I started with a non-alcoholic cocktail called the Mirage which was absolutely yummy (points for having adult drinks without alcohol). We got to appetizers, the avocado toast and tuna tataki. The toast was lackluster anf I could havr made much better in a few minutes in my kitchen: plain sandwich bread not very thoroughly toasted, mashed up unseasoned avocado, and absolutely tasteless, rubbery, cold, unseasoned chopped mushrooms. Husband liked the tataki okay, but I didn't care for it. Under seasoned and fishy in the wrong way. For entrees I got the chicken salad salad which was again entirely lackluster and under seasoned. I could make better and have had MUCH better at places like Yum! Bakery and random lunch places. Husband had the cuban chicken fricassee which was good tasting in a comfort food kind of way, but once again pretty underwhelming. Lastly we took a chance on dessert only to meet the same fate: our berry shortcake consisted of store bought angel's food cake, out of season berries (tragic when we're in the height of the local berry picking season), and cool whip-esque whipped cream.
Overall while we had a good time, our experience at Aster was disappointing. The menu is interesting on paper, but it really doesn't hold up to the image more trendy type of restaurant that it's trying to portray. Even if this were a casual lunch place though the food would still have to come up a notch or two for me to go again.
Rebecca Thomason
Cute, cozy spot for date night. Food was good, but the service was pretty slow. #datenight
K J
Cozy place to go get a fancy coffee and crêpes. I highly recommend the 24k coffee latte. Is a latte with withe chocolate ( white mocha) decorated with golden eatible paper.
It can be busy, but is worth it. Is not a fast food place so if you want high quality food, wait:). Can't wait to come back.
Joshua Finkelstein
Great patio overlooking the river. Great place for a date night. Live music playing both indoors and outdoors almost every weekend. Very good food as well.
Gregory Bernard, D.C.
Very good bloody with a nice chaser, the eggs Benedict was extremely nice, great taste, homemade fennel sausage, the crab version was seasoned very nice on polenta cakes and a nice hint of lemon. Plus swing music as a backdrop.
Noah Lucas
Great interior, beautiful patio, and good food. The food didn’t take my breath away especially considering the price, but definitely worth it because of the location. Staff were friendly enough.
Gary Cohen
This is our go to spot in the summer on the river. Food is good and service prompt enough. Relax w a friend with a chilled wine and good conversation. In the evening entertaining music with cover charge. Of the places to hang on the river one of the bests.
Bayli Baker
We did drinks and apps here and loved it. Our group didn’t want to leave. Very relaxing and beautiful patio!
Lara Hammer
When you eat outside here in the summer, it's like being in Renoir's painting bal at the Moulin de Gallette. Dappled sunlight, views of downtown across the river... It's just lovely. If you're having a date night, you can walk the nearby stone arch bridge, have dinner and drinks at aster cafe, and catch movie at the theater nextdoor. The food is decent here, the drinks are very tasty.
Piper Cleaveland
Perfect atmosphere! The food was delivered promptly and the waiter was amiable and helpful. A great spot to sip wine with friends.
Kristopher Gensmer
Phenomenal food, great atmosphere, lively and helpful staff. The Aster Cubano is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and the chipotle aioli is the perfect accent for the sweet potato tots. I don't live or work near here, but will make the extra trip to show it off to a friend or family member.
Arjun Berry
Oh this place is nice. I ordered dumplings with sauce and it turned out to be Malai Kofta an Indian dish, instead of the traditional dumplings - like momos. Also, they serve a ginger warm drink, which was just the thing I wanted on a snowy day when I walked into this cafe. I might comeback in summers to enjoy Malai Kofta and Naan, and perhaps sit outside, when all of this snow melts!
Dan Hedin
Lots of great choices on the menu that aren't a choice between good unhealthy and bad healthy. Nice shaded patio with a view of downtown. Live music. Great place for a nice meal.
Jennifer
The location and atmosphere are great! They have a large patio with views of downtown. The food is average and the service could be a little faster.
Lynn Mead
The food was good, but the band was great as watching the dancing. I had never been there before, so was unaware. lots of regulars, fun to experience.
Therese Selbekk
Love the place! Went there on a cold Winter day and had a nice cappuccino. Learned that they got bands playing so went a second time! The food and drinks are excellent. Really cozy place
Anna Malone
Seeking a glass of rosé and appetizers on a patio? stop seeking, this is it! Lovely atmosphere, great food, sangria too.
Edward Morafka
Unbelievable location!
The inside of the Aster Cafe has an intimate atmosphere great live music or grabbing dinner and an adult beverage. The outdoor patio is never dull.
Phil McWilliams
Really a beautiful morning for eating outside on the sidewalk. Ample seating, great view of the river, good service and great food and drinks. They open at 11am for an early lunch.
Ryan Gauquie
The food is good and the bar offers a great selection of unique mixed drinks and brews; however, nothing beats the setting on the historic St. Anthony Main Street right on the banks of the Mississippi at the falls.
Robert Hagen
Still one of my favorite brunches around! Try the Martinez - it's an awesome mix of flavors. I keep coming back for the French toast and Shakshuka, and of course the music
Laramie O
Love the vibe here, and the patio is stellar. Cocktails and wine selection are good, however I felt the food was just okay and small portioned for the prices.
Matthew Gantz
Stop #119 for @pizzas365: Aster Café has only a handful of flatbreads, but their chef's daily choice can bring you good things. Cracker-y crust and excellent toppings, this place only really loses out on price (higher end, of course) and uniqueness (few options). 3.8 Stars.
Tops Gops
One of the best brunch food in the city, if not the best. I always bring out of town visitors here.
Joel Fries
We have gone here for happy hour a few times on Tuesday. Good food and the staff was kind and helpful. Fun to be outside near the river in the summer.
Craig Larson
Chill vibe, great Bloody Mary, and solid snack board. Fun place to relax.
Morgan Yeargan
Highly recommend this place! Best sangria I’ve ever had. Gnocchi was amazing and they had live music on the patio. Very relaxing atmosphere and awesome service.
Alex Beck
Great place to go. If the weather is nice sit outside on the patio and enjoy the sounds of a Minnesota summer. If it's not so nice out head inside and listen to the live music and dance along.
Nick Bauman
The food has improved a lot lately. The service is good. The artistry of iron, glass and bronze decor is a monument to the city we will be talking about for generations.
Roy Smith
a very cute ambiance and very good food. I really love this place. They have great selection and you order your food right at the counter which makes the process a bit faster.
Chris Nohner
Always pretty good - spicy chicken flatbread worth getting again
Jenna Holst
LOVE this place. Prices are too high, but the atmosphere, live music, and drinks are the recipe for a good summer evening (especially if you can sit outside and look at the river).
Becky H
This visit was lousy from trying to get a table, waiting 60 minutes for a flatbread pizza because we were told the cook dropped it on the steps. Made no sense. Great patio so I will try again.
John Chandler
Great service and really good beer.
Our waiter was very attentive and very knowledgeable.
The bar was really quiet.
It was really good day outside when the sun was out.
Amanda Barrie
Excellent service with a smile, great dessert, good coffee. You get a lot of dessert for your money. Great value. Good "small bites" menu for a smaller appetite.
Gene Crandall
Menu rotates spring/fall and some things also rotate. The food is tremendous. You may have to wait in spring/summer once patio is open, but it's worth it. Dog friendly too!
Corey Popp
Pretty good food, great location. The staff is super nice and accommodating. If you are a decaf latte drinker, they are good here.
Gabrielle LaPlante
Favorite spot for a drink and appetizers! Wish there were more vegetarian options though.
Peter P John
Great patio great service and great drinks. Try the Nordic Mule!
Christianna Mullins
Love this place. We went there before we got engaged years ago & love going back.
Dustin Blaker
Great cozy place, the food was way more elegant and refined than I thought it would be. The cocktails are really nice as well. I'm definitely coming back.
Jennifer Macali
Service, outdoor patio, and location cannot be beat. The brunch/lunch has a variety of choices to select from. The latte was disappointing. Will return for the food and ambiance, but not for the coffee.
Tim Dodd
Amazing view, great location, great atmosphere. These drew us in. Decent Philly sandwich. Full blown bad (couldn't finish) mahi mahi tacos. Overpriced for the disappointing food. Would return if they had better food.
Christopher Corbin
Great food and incredible service. The experience was made by Mike the bartender's service and recommendations, with his great attitude. He's the reason we keep coming back!
Abbi W.
Brunch was great and the staff was unbelievably friendly. I also loved the atmosphere sitting outside.
tammy schwartz
Food a bit of a let down Luke warm sorta tasteless. Atmosphere very cute and cozy.
Greg Garritty
Had a very nice lunch sitting outside on the patio. The service was very good as was the food. The menu was quite limited but, again, the food was good.
Jonathan Charpentier
Awesome place with great music and super cool waitress! Also the view at night on the river and the stone arch bridge and city skyline are amazing. What more can I say?
Lexandra J
Gorgeous spot for a wedding. The staff was quick and efficient and the food was amazing. Everything was well organized

Aster cafe has a great patio and a charcuterie board to DIE for. If you want a relaxing cocktail whilst munching out delicate meats and cheeses all the while having a gorgeous view of the Mississipi river and one of the greatest cities God has ever graced this earth with, Minneapolis, then Aster Cafe might be the place for you. Plus there's a movie theater which is nearby, so that's kinda cool.

Tuna poke bowl and Street Noodles were good. Patio is a wonderful summer evening choice.
Gail Glirbas
The food was great, and the service was tremendous. I just wish more people would have had their mask on. I would recommend Aster's Cafe to my other friends as well.

Good atmosphere and good food. You have to check their event calendar to make sure you dont get charged a cover. Staff is very nice and helpful.

The patio is a delight and the interior is also good. I like their revolving menu that always fits the season. Great place for a nice date.
Dan Anderson
Great service on a busy night. We loved the local music.

Can anything be better than a nice day on the Mississippi River with open Windows outside seating then going to the Aster Cafe?
The Aster has been around for a long time so today just to pop in for a quick lunch and I get great service, fantastic salad and cool breezes next to the Mississippi River.
The Aster is not sitting back on the fact that it's been there for a long time it keeps rejuvenating and doing itself Justice.

Chicken soup with a side of Kimchi, so good

Really dug the aesthetic and the intimacy of the place. Location is right on the river and it has an ok view of the stone arch bridge. Great food. Higher price. Friendly staff.

Just ate here with my wife and everything was perfect. From Lord Huron playing throughout the restaurant, amazing food with minimal wait time and our server, Matt who did a great job throughout the entire time we were there.

This place has a wonderful patio and delicious food. The hostess however has an attitude acts like she doesn't want to be here or service customers.
Little Lotte (Happy Hollow Glass)
Awesome environment with the best patio in Minneapolis! Fantastic!!
Will Coughlin
Light and tasty lunch options in a great location. Neat vibes inside and outside on the patio.
Brian Bethke
Great drinks, food, and atmosphere. Often have live music here and the patio is great in the summer but wait times can be long.
Cheryl Martin
Great place to be with friends. It's dark and cozy for small talk. Great food choices & selection of beverages. We stopped in before a movie review for Game On.
Adrienne Sharma
I love Aster. Their patio on a summer or fall evening is to die for. Great wine selection and a nice selection of food as well. The service was great.

If you're biking in the black bean and feta compote is perfect. Great flavor plenty filling just a fine biking snack. Try a Crispin pear cider. Real perry not just pear flavored hard apple cider. It'll quench your thirst and nourish your soul. This is the greatest patio in town.
Heather Stoopes
Always excellent food and service. We had prime rib sandwich, charcuterie, hummus plate and chicken soup. All highly recommended.
Stephen
Just insane how good this place is. Everything I've eaten here is superb. The location is across from the river and you can see the skyline from the patio. You must experience the patio.

Graduate Celebration of about 20 or people in our party. We were treated magnificently. The service was excellent and so to the food. The entertainment was delightful.

Weird experience. The staff seemed afraid of angering management. They had all sorts of strange rules about who could sit where and were nervous about combining two tables for us inside, since they wouldn't fill tables outside. The food and drinks would've probably got it a 4, but for as uncompromising and as long as they took to seat us, they're getting a 3.

Fun place - fun food - wonderful for drinks.
Bruce Golob
Tables were far apart, servers masked, customers were masked until seated. Very safe on the huge patio and the food was very good.
Graham Fischer
Venue that really knows what it's aiming for. Small stage for local acts that makes for an intimate atmosphere. Great for a slower evening with friends, although if a band isn't there for the night this would be a great place to unwind.
Rodney Smith
Tasty food, ag ood wine and beer menu (usually), and a fantastic place to sit outside and enjoy good weather.
Augustin McLaughlin
Really small lunch menu, but the Margherita pizza was fantastic. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal as well.
Jonathan Ahn
Sunday brunch at Aster Cafe with live music and light dancing is one of my favorite ways of spending my time on weekends. Aster makes Minneapolis such a great, livable and enjoyable city, and Minneapolis is lucky to have Aster on its beautiful riverfront.
AJ Villa
The food was good, drinks were good and the service was the best I've had in awhile, but it wasnt worth the price. However, the view makes up for it!
Edwin Su
Good romantic outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Food is pretty good and fair prices considering the popular location for sightseeing. Good for breakfast.
Sam Cotch
Great food! Fun place. Live music is incredibly loud so not the greatest to try and carry a conversation but otherwise great.
Mark Daniels
Good ambience, good food, great beer!
Benjamin Peterson
Good food, great music, ok coffee, small and expensive yet delicious portions. Sunday swing band brunch is a great way to start the day!

Staff was very good and knowledgeable, prime rib sandwich was great, and the ipa I had was excellent as well. Prices were fair. The views and atmosphere were 2nd to none.
Philip Kelley
Great taps, great food. Cool live music and awesome atmosphere. Service can be a bit on the slow side when its busy.
Todd Kellogg
Very good Eggs Benedict.....Jazz band was tight....with Sundays lousy weather..inside
Was Ok...The outdoor patio with a view of River looked very inviting, but not in the down pour,oh well...LOL..
Alexander Halaszyn
Good service, great view, rather short and uninspiring brunch menu, though the food was quite good (as was the coffee). Beautiful patio.
