I really appreciate that we could make reservations specifically for patio seating. The service was great and the Sunday brunch menu has something for everyone. The food is a step above many brunch places. It’s in the details: the griddle toasted bread on the BLT, the perfectly poached eggs, and the blanched onions on the salad. Definitely coming back for dinner!

True definition of a family establishment. It is incredibly impressive what this team churns out. Craft cocktail selection is impeccable - Black Manhattan on menu or Vieux Carré off…you’re welcome. Service is both attentive but also engaging and conversational, be open and try something new here, it’s worth it. Everything is clearly prepared fresh and with the highest quality ingredients. I would post about the meal but am sure their menu changes over regularly, but in the event you can get it, definitely check out the short rib, Brussels sprouts, leak and potato soup, duck, perfectly seared scallops/order anything. Best mistake I made all day. Thought I was going someplace else and once realized, gave this hidden gem a try. Brunch menu was hard to choose from but decided on the Monte Cristo. Loved every bite. Service and atmosphere was perfect. I will be back.

We had a wonderful brunch. Nothing was lacking during our visit. The coffee was delicious and the food choices were a notch or two away from the norm in all the best ways. This family run place hits on all cylinders. Everywhere you look and everyone you speak with is packed full of character. In a city pack full of excellent brunch options, The Original sets itself apart with ease. Looking forward to returning.

What a gem! We started our weekend visit to Milwaukee with dinner here and was thoroughly impressed. Old, vintage dining room and bar with tons of character and charm. The food was all quite impressive, app, salad, and entrees, but especially the dessert bars. Service was friendly and attentive without being fussy. The shining star of the evening though are the expertly designed and mixed cocktails. Wow! All around satisfying evening.

We ate here last Friday for an intimate birthday dinner. First time, but definitely not the last. Everything exceeded our expectations. Really friendly and knowledgeable service from the owner, Expertly made cocktails, The brussels sprouts! Also could not recommend the steak any more if I tried. Best steak I've ever had. The grits and crab gratin were the perfect accompaniment. Have been singing this place's praises since, is it payday yet?

Awesome place for dinner or just a drink. Large drink menu for every fancy; highly skilled bartender. Impossible to just have one drink! Food from appetizers to deserts were finely crafted with generous portions. Very cozy atmosphere; great for a date or to go with friends. A new favorite in the north shore for me!

I very much enjoyed my dinner here. I had the Surf and Turf, and it was delicious. The steak was practically the consistency of butter, and the lobster risotto was also excellent. The cocktails and wine are very good. Staff is passionate about food and drinks and it shows in the quality. I look forward to going back.

I adore the Original. My partner lives across the street and I’d been wanting to try it for awhile, but tonight we finally stopped in! Everything about our experience was marvelous, from the impeccable food to the gracious hospitality from one of the owners. The warm ambiance and small, seasonal menu at the Original is meant to be savored and has clearly been crafted by someone who understands how a meal can satisfy not only the body, but the soul. Try the chestnut soup. An unctuous umami bomb unlike anything I’ve tasted before.

Usually love this spot. This time food was not as good as in the past. It was good comfort food. Mushrooms in surf and turf were excellent. But other dishes were oversalted. Service was mixed. Server was great with N/A recommendations and customizations, but the server assistant seemed to struggle (though probably newer in industry) Well definitely be back, but this last visit removed a bit of the sparkle.

Had our first dining experience last night and it was excellent. The drinks, the food and the service were all spot on. If you go you have to try the Brussels sprout appetizer, like nothing we have had. All the entrees of scallops, fish (sturgeon) and pork chops were done to perfection. Can’t say enough good things about this place. We will be back! 8/21/2018 update Had our second meal at Original and it was equally good. It was a beautiful night, so we sat on the expansive patio, that was very nice. They don’t have Sangria on the drink menu but they were kind enough to make me one. Yummy.

Outstanding old fashioneds and food was incredible. The Johnny Cakes are unique but delicious and the lobster skillet special was the best out there. Absolutely perfect in every sense including the service

Absolutely delicious food! Drinks are great too. Have not had a great western dinner for a while. As an Asian, it is hard to impress me with traditional American food, we have dined in most of the top restaurants in town, and this restaurant is definitely one of the top in terms of food! The the prices we paid is well worth it. Will be back with husband to try more items.

A Treat

If you want an all orginal place with a guaranteed something new... this is the best in the greater Milwaukee area. Seriously, deep fried pork chops and even Elk on the menu - both delicious!! Great atmosphere, friendly and helpful service... hit ALL the buttons! I hope this review doesnt cause overcrowding because I'll be back!

BBQ Pork Chop is so nice. The sauce is so good. The side of it i chose green bean and Mac and cheese, which is so yummy. Milwaukee Melt Sandwich is awesome. It is really juice and cheesy. The French fries, which is the side of sandwich is super juicy and crispy. You will love it!

I had the charcuterie board, Pana cotta, and the cats pajamas. Everything was so well prepared that you can tell the chef cares a lot about the items and the presentation. The drink was lovely and the bartender / owner was wonderful to talk to as I enjoyed my meal. Would happily come back!

We went to The Original last evening for a friends 40th birthday. I can’t say enough about how phenomenal the entire experience was. The owner, Craig, was our waiter and he was superb! He was fun, knowledgeable, and laid back. His nephew was helping him serve us and clear the table and he did a great job! The cocktails were fantastic and the food was incredibly flavorful and outstanding! We were there for over 3 hours and loved every minute. The patio area is beautiful and Craig also showed us the intimate indoor seating area and introduced us to the bartender who is also family. Love this restaurant. Love the staff and food and drinks. Would recommend to anyone and we will definitely be back!

Classical corner neighborhood bar feel with an updated spectacular menu. The staff was friendly, courteous and caring, they made us feel welcome and at home. We had the Sunday brunch, Classic Benedict and the Original. Both were fantastic. Can't wait to check out the dinner menu when were are back in the area.

Tucked away in the East Side locale of Milwaukee, The Original provides casual ambiance with high-level food, cocktails and customer service. I was hunting for a venue to book a large party on a Sunday evening, a bit challenging during winter hours in Milwaukee it turns out and found this spot! What a great evening! We were booked for 5pm, so plenty of street parking, could be challenging if later...plan ahead! The charcuterie plate was amazing, paired with craft cocktails (I sampled the Sazerac, I'd do it again) can't go wrong. Entrees were flavorful and well sized and Chef whipped up a beer cheese soup for us! Lastly, save room for dessert, we had one of each that was on the menu...my favorite, cheesecake! So...don't miss out on amazing food and service! Our server, Craig, was on point the entire night!

I brought a larger group here for my birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. There's a nice selection of beer, wine, liqour and a long list of cocktails that sounded interesting. I had the rainbow trout and it was amazing! Everyone in my group absolutely loved the food. I would absolutely dine here again.

I came here because it popped up with a picture when I googled “shrimp and grits near me”. I was bummed when I got there and they didn’t have it. But the food they did have was really good! I’d definitely come back.

Really kind and genuine service. That was very memorable. I had scallops and, while they were cooked very well with a nice hard sear, they were refinished with a rough finishing salt. It was like finding an egg shell in otherwise smooth scrambled eggs. Remove the finishing salt and that'd be a great dish. Loved the chocolate pot de creme!

The hand crafted cocktails were great and the food was absolutely amazing. My husband and I had the calamari as a starter and the scallops and duck for entrees. Both were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back!

I love everything about this place! Gluten free and vegetarian dishes are always available. The menu is not large but everything on it is carefully chosen to reflect the best of the season, and the menu changes seasonally. Today (August) I chose vegetable polenta cake for brunch. The polenta was perfectly prepared, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The vegetables were zucchini, also cooked to the perfect al dente consistency. All of this was topped off by two perfectly poached eggs. I can't wait to come back and try more of the brunch items!

Have been here for drinks, which are always fantastic! And the other night I finally had their dinner offerings, which were also wonderful. I had the Boar chop and it was absolutely delicious. My wife was also very pleased with her steak. The service was excellent and was possibly the best I've ever had in all honesty. Definitely going to make The Original another regular spot for us. Highly recommend going and checking it out

This restaurant understands hospitality and making memories with food. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Sunday. Our server was named Craig (co-owner). He was one of the most exceptional servers we've EVER had. That in itself is enough for a 5 star review in my opinion but I'd be doing The Original and the potential customer a disservice by not mentioning other things we enjoyed. We ordered several of their craft cocktails. We loved the selection of over 20+ classic style cocktail choices and 10-15+ specialty choice specific to The Original( reasonably priced I might add). They tasted amazing and were spot on with their balance and taste structure. Not over boozy, not too sweet but perfect. For entrees my wife had the Quail and I had the Short Ribs, both well plated, well portioned and both very savory and delicious. The owners were passionate about their craft and it shows in the way they've been operating for the 6 short months they've been open. I'd highly recommend The Original as a restaurant to make memories with great craft cocktails, incredible food and warm hospitality.

Meal was delicious. Waiter was kind, jovial, and a pleasure to discuss the area with. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because we were seated outside due to COVID-19 restrictions and the tree above us has many berry's fall on the metal roof causing much noise. It really took away from the whole experience in the beginning. As time went on we ignored it as the food was the main attraction. Hopefully the inside dining area opens soon.

Absolutely loved it, can’t understand why the place wasn’t as crowded as comparable establishments in bay view or walker’s point. Maybe a little further off the beaten path but well worth the trip. Food, drinks, and service all top notch!

We dined for Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere was very nice, bright and comfortable. There were a variety of brunch cocktail and beverage options. Coffee flowed freely and was refilled often, which was very appreciated by those partaking. The herbal tea was very good and additional hot water was added as needed. The food was good, though I would say the portion size to be a tad small on the skillets. Orders did take a while to come out, which wasn't bad since we weren't in a rush but I'd keep this in mind if you are (total seat to check was 1.5 hours). Otherwise, everything was great. Brunch cocktail/beer prices seem to be a bit out of control, but it's like this anywhere you go. Wait staff was excellent and we'd gladly return again!

This is a great place for an intimate dinner with a loved one or close friends. From start to finish, every meal I've had here has been exceptional. It has upscale supper club vibes, good portions, and cocktails I haven't seen elsewhere. Can’t imagine there is a better restaurant in Milwaukee. Fantastic atmosphere with even better service and food. The fact that there wasn’t a line out the door indicates that people simply don’t know about this place. Our party had several items from the menu and everything was incredible. Took my wife and daughter here for Sunday brunch. I didn't know what Chilaquiles was when I looked at the menu. I'm so glad I took the waiter's advice and ordered it. It was delicious. I will definitely bring the family back here. The weather was nice so we sat on the outdoor patio.

We had a wonderful night with our older parents, who due to the pandemic have not gone out out to eat, and won't for quite awhile. Absolutely top drawer! The food was outstanding and the experience was delightful. Co-Owner Craig is a superb host. He makes you feel welcome from minute 1 and guides you through all aspects of the menu and remains fully engaged. I can't recommend this restaurant any more highly. The Original is a fabulous addition to Milwaukee's restaurant scene!

Stopped in for a late Brunch on Easter Sunday... Staff was very welcoming and accommodating - Kevin behind the bar put together a wonderful cocktail based on what I asked for, Gabe was informative but not pushy and Eric the owner was very engaging. Food was spot on across the board, our party of six each ordered something different and everything was flavorful and prepared wonderfully. I highly recommend The Original for dinner or just to stop in for a couple of well crafted cocktails. Great new addition to the East Side!

We love the Original. We were last there when the patio was still open. At that time they were taking about there new Covid idea to seat only one party at a time in the dining area for a set price for a 4 course meal with drinks. We thought that was a great idea. We were able to get are parents out of their houses tonight for a somewhat normal experience. To share some good times with us and the server and bartender. No one else for 2 hours. The food and drinks were fantastic. I had Brussel sprouts, chili, steak and pie. Everything was perfect. The atmosphere was nice they even turned ther lights up for the older eyes. We ended with a candle for a young 80 year old to celebrate his birthday. It was nice to have a place to be safe with just us and to live life as best we can and to support places like the Original so they can survive.

Super great. Went for brunch. Loved the atmosphere, and the food was even better. Our server recommended a dish that I wasn't considering, but took his advise...it was absolutely fantastic. I look forward to returning for either brunch or dinner. I do have to say, my one complaint is that they charged $2 for a beer chaser with the Bloody Mary. What? Just add the $2 to the drink and bring the chaser. I mean, we live in Wisconsin where a beer chaser is automatically expected. Just saying.

With a constantly changing menu and an emphasis on fresh ingredients this place never ceases to impress me. Priced very very reasonably and the food has constantly been amazing. The cocktail selection is unlike anywhere else that I’ve experienced. Try the Ruffled Feathers if you get the chance. Just about everything on the ever changing menu is amazing and the atmosphere is perfect. Craig and Eric the owners even took time in there busy night to genuinely make sure our experience was going well. They haven’t been around long but I can see them soon amazing things with this place. Definitely worth stopping in.

Cozy place with spot-on food. Had Easter brunch (my first time here) and was delighted with what we ordered. I had an excellent Monte Cristo sandwich and was, overall, more than happy with our experience. Would recommend, and I'll have to try and come back to try their regular menu sometime!

Every time that we have tried the food here it has been great! And we have been trying it for years! We went back yesterday and had the Cobb salad, corn beef hash, avocado toast, ricotta pancakes with their fresh squeezed orange juice and they were all so good! It's a great brunch choice.

The food here is incredible. We've come here for both brunch and dinner, and it is always delicious, especially the Duck Duck Brunch. The cocktail list here is out of this world, with fun options like a flip made with brown butter washed rum.

We also ordered the New York Sour as our first round of cocktails; it was quite difficult not ordering it again, but I can't wait to try more of their offerings. For the main course, I ordered a perfectly cooked hanger steak and my wife ordered the duck breast the latter was probably the best I've had in the US.

The Original was amazing! My family (4 adults + 2 kids) ate there recently - we were in town from Chicago. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff was incredible. They didn't have a kids menu but accommodated with food for the Littles. I had the Elk, my wife had the scallops, my mom had the filet and my dad had the pork chop - ALL dishes where 10 out of 10. Also, the cocktails are top notch. It's one of those places where no matter what you drink or eat lots of love will go into the prep and presentation.

Every time I visit Milwaukee, I make a special trip to the Original for brunch. Great breakfast cocktails, especially mimosas and the "side toast". The restaurant itself is clean and bright and staff are always warm and friendly. If I could rank this place above 5 stars I would!!

Fantastic! Last night was our first visit. This new Milwaukee restaurant won't be a best kept secret for long. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The only thing I would like to see is for them to concentrate on some signature craft cocktails because the food isn't necessarily the only thing to go back for! We will be back again soon. Thank you for a great meal. It was a pleasure.

Fantastic. Food, drinks and service were all top-notch. My pork chop (over a sauerkraut cake with Brussels sprouts) was the best I've had - tender, juicy and flavorful. The kraut tang perfectly complemented the sweet meat. Others in the group enjoyed their lamb, duck and scallops (also perfectly cooked). House made desserts were worth making room for. The panna cotta and the bread cheese tied for favorite. The front of the cocktail menu had a long list of unique creations - we liked Sweater weather and Singing in the rain - while the interior had a longer list of classics (cocktails you may not have tried before but should).

Had a fantastic meal and cocktail here. It's easy to miss the place (decor reminds me of a repurposed house), but once you've discovered its location you won't forget it. Prices are fair considering the quality of the meal, but higher so it's worth noting for those unfamiliar. I plan on going many more times.

This is a wonderful little restaurant. The food is upscale, but the environment is casual. All of the menu items are very creative, using unusual preparations and ingredients. The presentation of the food was very good. We walked in on a Saturday night, but I recommend that you get a reservation. We will definitely be back.

What an amazing experience. Small quaint restaurant in Milwaukee that is a must! Had the opportunity to speak with the owners, two brothers with passion and pride in their restaurant. Scollops for dinner and the NY strip. Potato’s and brussel sprouts that were amazing. The duck appetizer off the charts! The drinks from old fashioneds to gin drinks that were masterfully made. Highly recommend and for the quality the prices are on par for a high quality experience. If you get the chance make sure to ask the owners about their passion, 2 great men. Definitely will be driving back from the suburbs to eat here again

Happened on The Original when a smiling face greeted us from the window. Stopped in for a drink and stayed for dinner. A wonderful find! The craft cocktails were delicious. Had a fun time hitting up this spot for the first time. The good: The drinks and the breakfast potatoes and the service. The not so good: The poppy seed doughnuts, which I was pretty excited for and let down. They were really greasy and had none of the fluffy airy quality you associate with a doughnut. More dry/muffin like I'd say. I definitely think I'll be back in!

The flat iron steak was the best meal I’ve had for a long time. The smoked tomato butter pulled the meal together. Steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. Can’t wait to go back.

The Original (called as such because the team behind it intends to open up other restaurants on the Milwaukee area), found a home in the Red Dot diner space in Murray Hill. Here's to hoping it stays. Went to the neighborhood gathering here where the owners gleefully greeted guests poking their head in for after cocktail and samples. The boyfriend and I made the walk between it and Tess a regular trip with our mutt and jumped at the chance of trying it out when we saw something had moved in. We both shared an old fashioned with small helpings of their dishes (the pork cheek and spaetzle is to die for). As for the interior, it's drop ceiling of copper pressed panels hang above a vintage, yellow lit bar while soft jazz plays overhead. It's funny lit and romantic and with dish prices middling around $15, a great place for an evening with a date or friends.

This place is a must to check out and frequent when you are craving some craft cocktails and high quality food. The owner served our group who was there for a birthday, and it was a blast to laugh with him and learn a bit more about his vision for the place. It was a beyond memorable experience for us all. Amazing array of liquors behind the bar. A great spot to come even for a few drinks and appetizers at the bar! P.s. Brussel Sprouts, House Cured Salmon and the Scallops are all a must as well as the Brandy Old Fashioned Panna Cotta for dessert!
