Reviews of Swingin' Door Exchange
Mary Alvarado
We loved it here! Pub like feel, dark lit but homey. Service was polite and prompt. I got the pork burger and it was delicious!! My husband said he wanted to order mine next time. He got the Reuben sandwich. The homemade chips and Brussels sprouts are a must try.

Small, cozy spot that fills up fast! We showed up at 5:30 on a Saturday night and the place was packed with standing room only for waiting. The wait however was worth it. The BBQ ribs were delicious and fall off the bone. The grilled beets with goat cheese, brussel sprouts and Vermouth carrots sides were all amazing. I could have just eaten those and been happy! Everything was served timely and hot, and our waiter was friendly, funny and definitely part of the great experience. I'd absolutely go back!

First time visitor from Michigan, and we needed a snack. This place was recommended by the hotel we stayed at and we were really pleased. We tried the ham and cheese and the chicken sliders, and boy were they delicious! The vibe was really cool as well. The only negative comment I have is that the restaurant needs a good cleaning. There were cobwebs all over the fans.

A must stop place ! The food was divine, the service was spectacular and the menu was exceptional. My only concern was that my husband asked for a Caesar salad but received a ginger (he didn’t wanna bring it up to the server). He ate it and said it is better than other expensive places we have been. 10/10 we will return to this phenomenal establishment!

This was a great choice. The service was excellent and the food was even better. Please keep in mind because it's very popular you will have a wait. My wait was only 15 minutes and they kept checking on us to make sure we were ok. Once inside the atmosphere and vibe weere amazing. Even the patrons had a great vibe. The decor was right up my alley.
Now let's talk about the food and drinks. I definitely recommend the Apple Orchard Old Fashion. I had 2 (LOL). I also recommend the Buffalo Chicken Dip, caramelized Brussel Sprouts, and the Bacon Tomato Avocado sandwich. I'll be going back tonight to try something else.

Fish Fry Friday is good but if you like mussels they are must have..sooo good! Great service with a smile. Nice selection of drinks

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to eating here. The place was very busy which was another good sign of a quality restaurant. I was very pleased with the taste of my food with the exception of the prime dip. I found the meat to be rather dry, but that's what au jus is for right? Opt for the house made chips as your side as they were perfectly crunchy. They also offer different seasonings you can add to your fries. Overall it was a good place for dinner and I'm glad I stopped.

It's a staple in the down town area. I've been here many times over the last decade. We went on a Thursday night and got there just before 700p. We arrived and it was busy as usual. We put our name in for a table and ended up getting 2 seats at the bar. We stayed for a couple beers and ate dinner. We got 4 shrimp to start. Cowboy burger and Russian sandwich pictured.

So good I came back TWICE!! The mussels are good and garlicky and those ribs tho!! Yum! Great place, super small but didn't have to wait long for a sit down. If I'm ever in Milwaukee again.... heading straight here!!
Wayne Moran
Great service, and fantastic food! More than all that, we were blown away when the owners went above and beyond with an elderly Veteran. His car was in danger of being towed, and we saw one of them drive it around the block until he found a better spot. Pretty awesome people, highly recommended!

Fantastic meal on Thanksgiving! Our family plans were cancelled so we went to see Shelly and K.C., and received warm hospitality and hot turkey dinner. Great food, great drinks, and great people. You will find these things in abundance every day at the Swingin' Door Exchange, and those delicious spicy vermouth carrots are an absolute must.

Overall, a good experience but I can't hide my disappointment about the food here.
This place is tight. Cozy tight. It has more tables and chairs than you'd normally expect. Everything is packed tight. It's not a place you go to relax and wind down. It's loud busy and fast.
I visited on a Tuesday night and the place was full and had to wait for about 30 minutes before a table became available.
Service is good but definitely understaffed. The server appeared to be overwhelmed and busy. However the service was good and attentive and was almost not compromised at all.
The menu is centered around comfort food. I have to admit that the quality of the food was not up to the hype. Some dishes were perfect, other were a little dry and mediocre at best.
This is a Downtown establishment. Expect some parking difficulties. There's a parking lot next block but either way you will be paying for it.
Overall a good dining-in experience. I will be coming back again.

Pretty cool place.
I loved the old times decor with the architectural drawings on the wall. Really neat. I wish we could have sat outside, but they only have like 6 tables and they seem to fill up pretty quickly.
The food was pretty good. We ordered a variety and found it to be pretty refreshing and their fries are quite good. We ordered the beets based on the reviews (we don’t typically like beets) and found ourselves disappointed. They try to mask the flavor of the beet, but it is still there. Not our jam.
The staff were kind, nice and generally willing to joke around and have a good time. They were very busy and every time someone left the table was immediately filled.
Seems like a spot to enjoy if you find yourself downtown.
Angel Lindquist
Excellent little cozy place, Food was delicious specially the sprouts. Mike our waiter was great, will be going back to try the rest of the menu.
Band Galaxy
Such a cool atmosphere!! Excellent food! The carmalized brussel sprouts were a surprise! SO good!! As was our other food!
Elias Probst
Kristin did an amazing job creating a wonderful experience for me at this place. The food was amazing and their house made sauces made the meal. Get their old fashioned!
Cara Walters
My husband and I were out of town from Chicago and Las Vegas and randomly stopped into this little bar. The food was way above what we expected!!! Also, our bartender was so attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating to all of our questions. Bree was the best, especially for being young. The whole experience was top notch!
Mike H
Go to the bar and find yourself a stool. Enjoy cold beer and an excellent meal for a reasonable price. One of Milwaukee's little secrets Don't spread the word too much it's a very small place very intimate scene. Find the time to go get something to eat and drink at this place.
Leslie Putz
Great visit to the Swinging Door. While in Milwaukee we went here for dinner and were delighted. Our server Michael was fun and awesome!
He knew the menu and specials top to bottom.
I had the in house smoked corned beef Reuben, delicious. I elevated my dinner with a side of roasted beets topped with goat cheese and was happy I did. The carrot cake was divine. The bartender was on game with my side car. A great choice for a meal!
Mary Jane Sanchez
Congratulations on your 12 year anniversary! I had great fun at your celebration. I'll make sure to be back for more good food and fun.

We have been wanting to eat here for awhile. Glad we were able to get there on a Thursday night. We arrived around 5:30, they were packed but they were still able to get us a table outside. The food was delicious and very reasonable. I had the tuna!!
Perfectly done! Yummy!!

We stopped in after the Brewers game. Had a fantastic server. We had been told that the kitchen was about to close but the server told us to take our time and order what we wanted. We had the homemade chips and chicken sliders. Food was great. We then ordered an apple spiced old fashioned and let me tell you it was beyond delicious. Serve me up another one.
karen derome
6pm on a Sat night 45 min wait for 5 to be expected. Greeted warmly. Got a spot at the bar for all eventually and Melanie was a great bartender! Very friendly. Couple next to me asked where they should go out and she gave them (for lack of better words) a couple places that fit their age range. My beet salad was fantastic. Others had the tuna app, sliders and chicken. ALL dinners were fantastic!
Elizabeth Adducci
LOVED this place! Service (Mike) was amazing! His recommendations were spot on both for drinks and food. Atmosphere is wonderful.
Bartenders were also amazing! So much fun, great music...and late night pizzas! Will absolutely make it a regular stop any time in MKE!
Greg Lawler
Visited on a Tuesday night. Great service, Food was very good, great atmosphere. Had the mussels for appetizer, Seared & Blackened Ahi Tuna and Sriracha Chicken Sandwich. Would recommend.
Marc Starvaggi
Absolutely delicious. The crab cakes were great, the prime dip was wonderful. My partner loved the siracha chicken sandwich. I had a bite and confer it was good. The cream of potato soup was great and the salads were fresh. We also tried the salted caramel cake, which was pretty good too. A fine establishment.
chad svastisalee
Swingin' Door Exchange was recommended and gotta say quite pleasing. The atmosphere feels like an old Irish pub/Wisconsin beer hall. Wood paneling, rustic tables and not much fan fare. Multiple screens strewn about to watch sports. Menu is finger friendly appetizers and standard bar fare. Sandwiches, soups and wraps. Spotted cow is amazing on draft. Housemate chips were fantastic with or without the Chipotle Ranch as well as the Tuna Melt. Tuna Melt came well dressed along with a side of their Crispy Fries. Kitchen prepares fairly quick and service is prompt and friendly.

Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday. We knew this place would be good when we saw it was packed at 3pm! We started with the mozzarella sticks. For our meal, I had the Sriracha Chicken and my partner had the sliders. Everything was delicious and the food came out quick! We thought this was a great place to do lunch.

This.Place! A must when in Milwaukee...great drinks and food...That pork sandwich w maple and Brussel sprouts is delicious...not a single crumb left for the dishwasher. The side of the most crispy potato chips, which are made in the kitchen and fried to perfection are a 'can't miss'...you have been warned...Addiction!! Also, there for Fish fry Friday...another delicious meal...I am thinking you can't go wrong at the infamous Swinging Door! Your welcome.
Jessica Poindexter
Bomb AF. Everything was delicious. The tenders are as big as your head! We had salad, tenders, chicken sandwich and fried fish. No one in our party was disappointed. Did have to wait an hour to be seated but was definitely worth the wait. Sadly they were out of the caramel peanut butter snicker cake.
john hauschulz
We had to wait almost an hour for a table but it was a Saturday night with many things going on downtown so it was not a problem we enjoyed cocktails outside on their patio while waiting they're very accommodating and the food was excellent service was excellent no wonder they've been there for so long! Keep up the good work swinging door :-) :-)

Great cozy atmosphere and great food at a reasonable price. Waited about 35 minutes for our table on a Friday night so not bad at all (they told us 45-50 when we walked in). Would definitely recommend.
Zachary Spencer
I continue to have a wonderful time at The swinging door exchange every time I go. The maple glaze brussel sprouts are amazing. The staff is always very pleasant and efficient. It's a great little gem of the city. If you have the opportunity to go, I would highly suggest it.
Sarah Ridenhour
Vibe was great, service was good and it was a popular spot. My husband got the Reuben and he said it was great. I got the wedge salad and it was ok.
4 stars because half of their menu is marked GF (gluten free) but it’s an error.
Will Cappon
Classic saloon. Has a nice food menu and a 3 for $5 canned beer deal. In a good location on Michigan street under the mackie grain exchange building. Indoor and outdoor seating. Was there on a weekday evening and it was almost full.
Said Hamideh
Open since 1933! A bar made when people were smaller. Food is so good!!!
Becca Pence
Cute, cozy space. There was a 30 min wait at 5:15 on a Friday. Food was great, I had the cod fish fry, portions were generous and the fish was well seasoned. Will be back!
Amber Byrd
The caramelized brussel sprouts were amazing. The maple glazed pork chop sandwich was delicious. The place had an feeling of being taken back in time. The walls were covered with beautiful wood from floor to ceiling, there was an old bank vault and the staff was very attentive to all of our needs. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place in Milwaukee.
Richard Flores
First time visiting. Walked in and bartender made me feel at home. Interior decor is great and brings you back to the old days. I ordered the chicken siracha sandwich and it was great.
Trace The Hero
Very friendly staff && great food ... Especially if you're in the mood for noodles of some sort! But, If you're not in the mood for noodles you probably shouldn't go to Noodles ... I'd suggest a nap, naps are awesome.
Kari Rillon
Everything was fabulous! The highlights were the Brussel sprouts and the French dip. Great drinks! Great service too! You will love this place!

Swinging Door & Exchange Eatery
I went there on a Saturday night on a whim. I had to wait 15mins for a table, not bad as they were so busy!
Nice & very polite wait staff.
I ordered the PB&J Cheeseburger with fries and a coke to drink. I liked the vibe to the place, fun and packed.
I thought I'd try something new and it didn't disappoint. The mixing of the peanut butter and jelly with the burger works! The burger was tasty and juicy and the PB & J added that extra "oomf" for the overall taste sensation!
The fries are about the only item not made at the restaurant. They did have a good coating, but these were frozen; fresh fries are better.
Molly was my waitress and she was great!
Not too expensive, good food, friendly people and inviting atmosphere, I will definitely eat here again😊.
Markus Trumann
Nice location in downtown Milwaukee. The ribs were awesome, the sandwich ok.
Kevin Lo
Great food here at a popular spot for locals. Ridiculously crowded on a Tuesday night at 6:15. 45 minute wait for a table but I was lucky to get a seat at the bar right away.
Staff are really friendly and attentive.
The shrimp tacos (Tuesday special) were delicious and they ran out shortly after my order. I heard from the people near me that the vegetation tacos are to die for. And these were not vegetarians!
Steak was cooked exactly how I ordered and the beets were terrific. Definitely pick beets for your side!
Andre hill
Kate was absolutely amazing she kept all 7 of our drinks filled serves was excellent. Food was amazing can't speak more highly on our waitress. It was a great conclusion to our trip to Wisconsin if ever back we will come back .
Scott Schultz
Always great. Good drink special. Bartender was awesome and engaging. We were in Santa outfits after bicycle ride.
Joshua
This place is a Milwaukee staple and has PHENOMENAL food. A must-go place for sure. Top tip: if you want to get lunch there, it’s a great place to bring a small group, but be there at 11 am!
Monica Keith
Food is amazing. We ordered one Reuben sandwich and one half rack ribs. They both were incredible and arrived quite fast. They had ciderboys which is soooooo hard to find. And service was very good. They have outdoor seating with cover in case it rains.
Kevin Wolfe
The food is always spectacular here but they just updated the menu and took it up another notch! Here is a photo of the GOURMET PUB FOOD they served up for me today. A juicy pork tenderloin with a maple and mustard sauce, smothered and Gouda cheese and topped off with crispy bacon and balsamic grilled brussel sprouts. It was a flavor explosion!!
K The Foodie
Never judge a book by its cover or a restaurant by its decor! This place has some GREAT food. The sriracha chicken sandwich was so delicious! Id definitely come back!
Lukasz (Luke)
Awesome place! It’s in a very beautiful building! It’s a fairly small establishment but has a very nice vibe to it! It is known more so for the drinks but I find the food here to be very delicious and priced right! I had the 8ox pork loin with carrots and carmelized brussel sprouts. The portion was big in my opinion and the food was fantastic! Highly recommend!
John Contreras
Absolutely fantastic food with amazing service! Definitely coming back for some more steak! I also love that they give us crayons to write on the table tops!!! Mainly for kids, but I enjoy it as well.
xwanderingchef
Stopped in here to have a bite to eat while in Milwaukee for a brewery day, and really loved the place. The bartender was super friendly, made good recommendations, and very attentive. The appetizer, Reuben rolls, were well done; crisp wrapper and great filling. I had a NY strip for the entree. It was cooked to perfection! The old fashioned was great as well. The interior was a little dark, but not terrible. Overall I enjoyed my time at the exchange.
Diana
This was a great stop for lunch. Very worth the price!!! Walked in its nice and warm given it's 39° in Milwaukee right now. It was a full house but we got seated within 5 mins. Got our drink and food fairly quick as well. We ordered the Sriracha Chicken sandwich and Chicken tenders. The chicken sandwiches was one of the best we've ever had. The chicken tenders were great and definitely for 2 people. Great music and ambiance. 😃👍🏼😊
Jessica S
Stopped for lunch, had a ham & turkey club which was great but huge so I took the other half home. Not a fan of the fries which are lightly coated for crispiness but wouldn't discourage others from trying. Also, the Russian sandwich was a great and very large portion per my husband. Service was great and the bartender was very talkative. The prices were good considering the portions. Definitely give it a try!
Douglas Krystosek
Dinner was delicious!! Started off with the Homemade Chips and Ranch. Yum 😋
The main course I went with the pork chop cooked to perfection with sauted onions and Au Jus soaked mushrooms. 🥩🧅🍄 The spicy vermouth carrots and dinner roll came with the entre along with a choice of side I tried the Caramelized Brussel Sprouts with candied pecans and sirracha aioli. 🍽️ 💯🎯
Hit the spot!
Sam Broughton
Great, fast service. Apple Orchard Old Fashioned was one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Maple Glazed Pork Chop Sandwich and Buffalo chicken dip were excellent. Large portions and very reasonable price. Must go if in the area!
Brandon
The Swinging Door service is what keeps me coming back to this place. Charlie and the other staff are always so kind and I do think they’re genuine people even off the clock.
If I had to recommend a dish I would say the ahi tuna, it’s my favorite. Otherwise fish Friday is a close second!
A side note - the place is always packed so be prepared to wait. If you can slide into the bar you can eat there or tell staff you’ll just have some drinks until a table opens up. I’ve done both!
Keep up the good work Swinging Door!
Leann Lynn Nicholson
Clean and friendly environment 😌 awesome food!! A little western feel. Great food and affordable pricing. Just a block from the river walk 😉 🤗 great little spot for sure!! …
Shana Smith
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. This was the best food I have had in a long time and the waitress was very nice and quick
Tim Phelps
The food was very good, but I don't know if it was so amazing that I'd be willing to wait too long for a table there. We went on a weekday afternoon, and the line was out the door. There is really no waiting area except outside, so people are kind of packed in a little entryway, with unclear direction on who to speak to about getting a table. This isn't too big of a deal when it's nice outside, but it's pretty unappealing when it's cold out.

Great service, nice people, cute old town atmosphere. The ribs were great!!!! I would definitely go back! Vaccination not required to be serviced.
Jacob Ramjeet
Great spot with friendly service and good. The Ahi sandwich was really good! The place packed out in the evening, so get there early.
Rachel Gall
Adorable. Like stepping back in time. Fast attentive service. Very nice fish fry. Get the grilled beets and "chips and dip" appetizer.
Auriel
I underestimated this place because of the look—kind of old school looking—I did not expect much. But the food here is quite good!!!
Erik Nordlöf
We ate a dinner at this cozy place down in Milwaukee.
The food was good, and medium-large dishes.
You can feel how genuin this place is! It feels like your eating at your friends.
We got served by a tall brown haired guy, his service was AMAZING!
Rory O'Donnell
Home made chips and Buffalo dip for appetizers were tasty, but, the KC burger is probably the best burger I have ever eaten. Amazing. Short wait, but a Great ambience inside the bar as we were waiting.
Kevin Scott
Delicious food. Great atmosphere. Reasonably price. If in Milwaukee you must try it out.
Anita Nizami
My second time coming here and holy moly the food is really fantastic! I sat on the patio today and it was such a chill vibe. Waiters are always nice! I will be back!
Gayle Rocz
service was friendly, and the space was nice. tried something new and enjoyed ourselves. Felt like it was a good value for not breaking 100 w an ap, 2 entrees, and 2 drinks. would go again.
Phuong Q. Le
Good Friday fish fry, but the tuna steak and the sides (carrots and brussel sprouts) were the highlights. My group came at 7 and had a 20' wait (shorter than the expected 40').
Rebecca S
Friendly staff and even greater customers from all over the world. Burgers are supreme and the grilled carrots. Also try the homemade desserts and soups. Chili hits the spot with crackers.
Kevin Miller
That perfect kind of staff that provide fair opinions, strong wit and stiff drinks while knowing their boundaries. Grilled sandwiches that are too big but so damn delicious you eat more than you should - the Reubens have slow cooked corned beef from an oven, not a deli case. Magical Caesar salad with homemade dressing coating every bite-sized Romaine chunk, loaded with in-house croutons. Old timey decorations that seem just right in any era.
Blaine Reid
I had no idea it was a local bar that has really good food. Great intimate atmosphere, delicious food. We each tried something different and no one was disappointed or hungry.
Kayla S
Great food and well made drinks for a reasonable price. Fun ambiance, great service. Just all around really nice vibe.
Elizabeth Chaulklin
Nice little spot for lunch or dinner. Nice bar area and table service available. I enjoyed the French dip very much and look forward to coming back.
Diana R
Enjoyed my time there. Quaint atmosphere, friendly staff, good food.
Sam Lezon
Without a doubt the best fries I’ve ever had. We started off with the mussels which were fantastic, and I split the beef dip sandwich (very good) and the ahi tuna (must have). Very cozy and nice place with good service and even better food!
Kay UdeGod
Service was spectacular! Food was delicious for the most part and atmosphere was elevating. I love the building it was located within, how cozy it was inside and it seemed like a hole in the wall location. Definitely a must try!
Andy MPC
Cool bar & grill located in a historic building, the grain exchange, once the home of the largest wheat trading exchange in the U.S. Swingin' Door has a great beer selection and a nice menu that has something for everyone. Garlicky mussels, perch fish fry, patty melt, Reuben (or Rachel) sandwich, it ain't fancy but it's all really good! Super friendly staff too. Come n get it!
Holly Hartman
Best burger and fries I've had in a long time and the mixed drinks were delicious. Friendly staff and quick service despite them being extremely busy.
William Berdine
Great vibe. Local bartender recommended this place and it did not disappoint. If you are with a date sit at the bar for obvious reasons.
Eric Breland
Ok, I have been looking for the perfect Patty Melt. And today I found it! I asked my server, Laura, to give the cook a hug and she did. They deserved it.
My patty melt patty was seared perfectly and it did not make the bread soggy. The marble rye bread was perfectly crispy. The onions were clear with the perfect caramelization. The cheese was melted and along with the patty, was hot.
Marlene Forshee
Great Old Fashioned! Delicious vegetable sides. Especially loved the brussel sprouts and roasted beets!
Jesse Barnett
A classic milwaukee/midwestbar with an excellent menu and traditional service. In fact, all the other restaurants and bars should send their help there to observe how they get things done😉 …
CAI Performance Engineering
Great place! Food is amazing! A little older crowd, so it is perfect.
William Law
We have eaten here many times and always enjoy it. Today we enjoyed lunch and it was amazing as always. If you have time when they are serving lunch I highly recommend it. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are perfect. Can't wait to get back
joel eagles
My wife and I loved this place. The carrots and Brussels were amazing. We had the chicken sliders twice in the same day they were so good. Bartenders are really good. Drinks were really well made
Kim Vitek
Amazing spot in downtown Milwaukee. Bloody Mary was fabulous. Sliders, Ruben and Buffalo chicken dip all excellent. Service top notch and decor cool as hell! I will be back
Gloria Witt
Oh goodness. Yum! The carmelized Brussel sprouts are the best ever ever. The grilled beets are amazing! Pretty much anything you get here will be top notch! The staff is very nice as well. The atmosphere is super fun. We love it here
Jenny Wilson
Best food we've had in ages. All the food (tuna melts, crispy chxn sandwich, grilled cheese, chili and roasted beets) we're totally fabulous. Also, wonderful service. The bloody Marys were especially delicious.
Nancy F
We loved the food, the atmosphere and the staff! Fun little place. My brother ate there 2 days in a row! Food was REALLY good, staff was efficient and knowledgeable. We definitely be back again.
Denis Petrov
Ahi tuna was great, and onion rings perfectly sweet thin with crunchy and flaky batter, yum! Come early or reserve, they don't have much seating inside. Good place for a quiet conversation over dinner.
Damian Panek
Good atmosphere, servers and food. Very cool looking place with the saloon decor. Was pretty busy on a Saturday.
Tom Mullen
We had a couple beers and enjoyed the atmosphere. Seating was available outdoors as we were there on an. 80 degree day in May, we chose to go in. Service was fast and the crowd was just a tad over not busy for a Thursday afternoon. I heard that I need to come back on Friday for the fish fry.
Marija Webers
Cozy, inviting place. Bar and homemade soups, etc... our waitress was excellent! She helped me with decisions and her recommendations were spot on. My daughter got the beet salad...the beets were grilled and everything in the salad pulled the flavors...yum! My husband had the burger special and I had the soup, salad combo with a chicken slider...all was phenomenal!! All in all, a great "corner bar setting" and wonderful food...great place to just hang out with a friend or 2. Chill out and enjoy!!
Dan Danreiter
This place was awesome! I had one of the best Ruben sandwiches I've ever had !!!
Angela Smith
Very homey place. Great care put into everything such as delicious homemade clam chowder soup w/ old bay n piping hot apple cider in cute mug.
Michaela Otterstatter
Definitely worth the wait for the fish fry! Variety of appetizers and specialty cocktails. Great service from our waiter Mike!
Will Griffith
I found the staff to be just wonderful, really friendly and talkative, kept a glass full! The place is really old-timey and cool too!
Wings-N-Whisky Meat and potatoes
The food was very good. The service seemed to be slightly chaotic and unorganized but the food was worth it.
Karis S.
Loved the staff and the environment. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. It was a busy time so we waited a bit for the food but it was worth it.
Scott Dicks
Excellent drink pours. Appetizers were very good! A little expensive, but great atmosphere.
Ted Peters
Asked for a suggestion...Friday = fish fry. Was given 7-8 recommendations. All sounded good. Till the steak! Get it. You won't be disappointed. Melt in your mouth good. The beets and carrots. Nice! Be back soon.
E Will
Swinging Door summer out door dining was great. Good food, music, and vibe.
Joyce L
We received excellent service and a delicious meal. The brussel sprouts were fantastic. The bar was busy but not too noisy for conversation.
Nick
Average pub Pretty good burger and French dip, great drinks, service was a little slow but very friendly. Sitting outside was nice , it allowed us to really take in the architecture across the street.
Tom O'Rourke
This 1 of 2 of my favorite places to grab a burger in Milwaukee. The staff is great. I wish they had 2-3x the dining space so I could get a seat anytime but, at the same time I love the atmosphere when able to grab a seat at the bar.
I’ve half about half the items on the menu and will still come back for their burger. Any of the version, but a simple burger with cheese & onions is all I need. While simple, it’s quite flavorful.
Olivia Arnold
We've been to Swingin door many times and are never disappointed. The staff is super friendly and the food delicious- especially the fish fry! Get there early on weekend or you'll be waiting for a table. Bar tenders are great at being attentive to your needs while you wait though!

Best place in WI, came here 2 nights in a row! They have the absolute best food in town and great service!
Jason Gyulay
Quite a bit of a lunchtime crowd. But able to accommodate both large and small groups. The food was very tasty, as well as plentiful. Even though the place was packed, wait staff was very attentive, and very friendly. Most definitely would recommend as a spot to grab, lunch or a drink after work when you are downtown.
Brennan Walter
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once we walked in we were blown away by the atmosphere and great smells. The food and service were excellent. Several local brews on tap. We loved our stop at the Swingin' Door!
Chuck Shurlow
Very good food, more townie style place. Good service, good drinks, great food.
Kari Wachter
A friend recommended this place and we went on a Friday night - it was very busy, as expected. Dining room is small, but it is worth the wait! Fabulous and reasonable, a must-try in Milwaukee.
Main downside is lack of parking but trust me it is worth it.
Kelsey DeAnna
Great staff! They always have a wonderful personality from the minute you walk in. Our waitress was great and informative with the menu especially the daily specials! She was happy to suggest things if we wanted to try something new and different that made the Swingin' Door Exchange a unique restaurant that puts it mark on the map and you. Can't wait to go back and try something new!
Heather Kelley
Historic building, very cool establishment with delicious food and good drinks. The waitresses here are super friendly. My favorite snack is the ginger salad YUM!
Monica Cardenas
Fantastic service and tasty food. Comfortable outdoor table.
Jack M Sum
Top notch, everything on the menu is great from tuna salad to filet. And damn those vermouth carrots are something else.
M Baker
We visited twice during our visit to Milwaukee. Once for lunch & drinks, then returned for just drinks. Both experiences were fantastic.
The food here is incredible. I had a cup of chili to start. It was very good. I also had the wedge salad with grilled chicken. The greens in the salad were super fresh, I swear it had so much delicious bacon on it I could hardly eat it all. The chicken was grilled to perfection.
My husband had a tuna melt and started with a salad with the ginger dressing. He thoroughly enjoyed his food as well. I snuck a few french fries from his plate and I must say, they were fresh and delicious.
We both had Old Fashioneds, his with bourbon and mine with rum. The bartender went out of his way to ensure the drinks were perfect.
The second day I also enjoyed several Mimosas while sitting at the bar. I'd definitely return to this place if we were in Milwaukee again.
The service was also outstanding!
Kimball Early
Wonderful atmosphere! Service was excellent. Dinner was delicious.
First time to Milwaukee. Next time I return, I will be visiting the swingin door again.
Anand Dedhia
Had the veggie grilled cheese with the spicy vermouth carrots. Food arrived quickly and the wait staff was very friendly; gave us some great advice on places to check out in Milwaukee!
Rosalinda Olszta
I loved this place, the food was amazing, the bartenders were friendly. I met so many people and talk to so many people from all life walks life it was amazing!! Highly recommend
Ok Clark
Amazing fried chicken sandwich. Dusted with cornflakes and served extra crispy. It took me a minute to figure out how to get this in my mouth. Delicious!
Travis Banning
Really cool old bar vibe. Went in for the Friday fish fry, it was really good. They might have the best beer deal in Milwaukee.
Jon H
Spouts and fish were excellent, snuck some excellent fries. Do not miss this.
Kenn Cramer
What great little place! The interior is warm and comforting, like a great den or study. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. I had the Ruben sandwich which was just plain comfort on rye. The spicy vermouth carrots as a side was simply the best side dish I've had at a restaurant. Not often a side dish is thing that will keep you coming back time and time again, but I digress. You won't be disappointed here.
Steve Pistello
Cool, cozy vibe! It's a quaint place with awesome comfort food and a decent selection of beer. Reasonably priced for such large portions and good food. It is small so expect a bit of a wait
Laura Schmidt
I had a fantastic meal here last Thursday night while I was travelling through Milwaukee on business. We chose the location because it was late and the kitchen was still going to be open. The food was amazing. I had the patty melt with a garlicky Caesar side salad. What stood out about the place was the service. Our server was so friendly and knowledgeable and put all of us weary travelers at ease. Every employee we encountered might as well have been the owner, by the way they truly cared about the business and its guests. I highly recommend coming here the next time you're in Milwaukee.
Crystal Mariza Bucio
Great ambiance, great service, delicious bloody caesars and great food. Stopped in for lunch and loved it! Will definitely be back!!!
Jerry Martocci
I worked downtown for 37 years and can't remember it not being there. It's a charming place that will remind you of the 'Cheers' bar. You can sit at the bar. There's a side room that's more quiet. There's also about 5 tables on their patio area.
The food is the normal pub fare, but better tasting. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your needs. Prices are average for a downtown location.
Jim Wilson
My goodness the food was amazing. My wife and I have already discussed making plans to just make a trip back here for lunch. The service was incredible
Greg Felzer
Been going there for almost 44 years. Plan on going there as long as possible. Shelly and K.C. are the best.
Steve Hansen
Bar selection was limited, salad was good and chili was ok but not a lot of flavor IMO
matthew zook
Awesome atmosphere and great service
Nate Thiel
Food was amazing! Our server Mira was very friendly, happy and cheerful. Had great service! Great first time experience here and will definitely come again!
Pam Boggs
Great food great service! You must go here when you visit Milwaukee!
Selena Proksa
Great food and an even better staff! Took my daughter here for her 21st Birthday. Excellent spicy Bloody Marys. Our server, Emily, was very attentive and helpful right down to arranging a secret birthday treat with candles for my daughter. Very much looking forward to our next visit.
Stas Balanevsky
Great and friendly service. The food was fresh and delicious. My favorite in MKE… also my 1st time in MKE so YMMV.
Tricia Mann
So busy on a Friday!!! 45 minute wait for a table, able to sneak into bar seats. Food excellent. The bar had awesome food trays so you could eat easily at the bar.
Tameika Britton
This was my first time coming here and I gave to admit, it was a really nice crowd. The food and drinks were good. The waitress we had recommended good food and drinks. I forget her name, but she was very friendly.
Pat Addy
Oh my! Started with a White Claw then tasted the Build Your Own Angus Burger with the Carrot Side Dish. The flavor of the beef and the bacon was great. And the Fresh Bun was amazing.
The homemade chips are a must!
The Crispy Chicken Sliders were a pleasant surprise and full of crunch and flavor.
All food was made fresh from scratch. Best in the area!!!
Joseph Wodicka
Best burger I have ever had. Really cool atmosphere too. Definitely is a wait for seating as it isn't a very large restaurant.
Matt Olson
Great place for Lunch or Dinner! The owners are very hospitable as well as the employees. The food is fantastic. Prices are very reasonable for the food and drinks. A must try at least once of you have not.
Robert Ball Jr
Very busy on Saturday afternoon. I wanted to get something light so I had the soup and salad. The meaty chili was good and came with crackers. The ginger was also enjoyable even though it was iceberg lettuce.
Dawn Swartz
I had a great experience here. Staff was stupendous. The bartender was extremely busy but still friendly and curtious, even brought a bowl of water out for my dog. A staff member who was of duty was I'll say bussing tables. I really enjoyed the customer's. They were all very friendly and Jeff who I never met before even bought us drinks. I only had drinks tonight but I have eaten here a couple times now and I will definitely be going back! Awesome night!
aaron kroupa
We walked right past the main entrance but I'm glad we turned back around! Great brunch/lunch spot in the heart of downtown, whether you're inside or out the food is fantastic! Definitely recommend grilled cheese with a soup side to dip in as well as the Buffalo Chicken dip. If you're feeling Wisconsin, snag yourself the orchard apple old fashioned.
Inbry Pardis
Pleasant atmosphere, amazing food, great service!! 10/10 experience!
Lisa Manske
One of the best meals I had on my recent trip to my hometown, Milwaukee. Normally you don't think of carrots as a memorable part of your meal. But, if you come here, you must order the sweet vermouth carrots. They are thinly sliced, lightly charred, and delicious. I had the roasted beet salad with a side order of the carrots and it was outstanding. The interior is old, dark, and cozy with lots of old wood. Full bar with great cocktails. Great place to hang out and get a real feel for Milwaukee.
Marco Polo
a perfect place to have a great time with friends, enjoy the atmosphere and excellent food, they handle affordable prices, it's my new favorite place to go on a Friday night
Jeff Hoelscher
The food was okay, but we were there late. Service was great
Chuck M
One of Milwaukee's best. Food is very good and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and attentive.
Peter Folkert
Good restaurant for American faire. Their Spicy Vermouth Carrots are on point. Make sure you get it as a side. My wife and I had a nice little corner to observe the restaurant and still feel like we had a private enough spot to have a conversation. Waitstaff were friendly, knowledgeable, and were able to give good recommendations.
brian walton
Went for a quick lunch. Had the sliders appetizer which was really good. Companion had the chili which looked awesome. Came with cheese onions and sour cream on the side. Service was very quick and very nice. Total bill was also very reasonable. Will definitely go back to try other good sounding items on their menu
Michelle Higgins
Awesome visit. Laid back atmosphere. Great cocktails. Delicious, interesting food. Friendly, engaging service. Thanks Michael! Will be back next time we visit Milwaukee.
PS. Best potato pancakes ever!
Marlon Davis
Went for the chicken sandwich..and chips hmmmm...was not impressed..the Old Fashion was spot on though.
Tyler Johnson
Food is great. It's a hole in the wall, kinda place. Pretty cozy. It gets busy, but worth it. Service is usually quick and friendly. One of my go tos for lunch.
Andrew Zoller
Awesome pub with good beer, cocktails and excellent service. The food was lights out as well- mussels, burger and fish fry were all phenomenal.
Philip Gissen
So quintessential Milwaukee, the Swingin Door Exchange earns its popularity. It can get very crowded at lunch. The menu is wide spread, eclectic and everything we tasted was delicious. The bar is a Wisconsin bar, unpretentious with healthy pours. When I'm downtown, and thinking of lunch, I invariably end up at the Swingin Door. It always pleases.
Bruce Grazier
This is a great little pub right across from the Hilton where we stayed. Nice atmosphere, the staff is very pleasant, they even asked a guy to leave who had one to many, thanks, I know we all appreciated that. Food was very well prepared and not overpriced. Had Beer specials on PBR and Coors Light.
Jim Coach Krupke
What a classic place!!! The service was outstanding, and the food was fantastic. I highly recommend the reuben and homemade chips. Great place to throw back some cold beer too. 🍺 BOOM 💥
aaron keihl
Food was fantastic. Burger looks like a steak and the blackened chicken was very flavorful. The speed was pretty decent for sit-down lunch
Mike Doss
Good food, ample portions, reasonable prices. Not ideal for a quiet meal but it has a nice atmosphere and waitstaff is friendly. Would recommend to anyone who wants a fine meal in a cozy environment.
Mar “Martini” Tini
Food here is great!!! The crunchy chicken sliders were tasty! The carrot cake was really good. The bacon avocado blackened chicken sandwich was great! The brussels sprouts here are amazing! Make sure you get them dressed. The carrots are super tasty! The staff was friendly. The beef sandwich with the au juos was amazing!!!! Come here to eat!!!
Chris Neal
Food was fantastic, and I thought the overall vibe of the place was nice. However... service was less than stellar. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt of it being a Saturday evening, but that sympathy kinda dwindled away when the table next to us that arrived after us got their food before us and were almost done before anyone even bothered to check on us.
Carlos Maysonet
Had a great time. Food was awesome. Definitely needs re visting
Lynette Scott
Absolutely delicious lunch. We had the cruncy(cornflake coated) chicken sandwich and the grilled loin chop. Sides were house made chips and Brussel sprouts that were both amazingly crunchy and flavorful. Nice sidewalk or indoor seating.
Keith Schroeder
On the plus side, the fish fry was very good and staff was friendly. On the minus side, this place is very busy, doesn't take reservations and the overflow crowd is warehoused in an outer hallway of the building with very limited seating and service. We spent an hour and twenty minutes sitting in a stairwell and getting drinks was a real mission.
Andy Moyes
Great food, good environment. Staff was really friendly as well.
Ashley Smith
Sooooo GOOD!! My husband and I visited this cute little spot twice while visiting Milwaukee! The food was REALLY good (great portion sizes) and the drinks were tasty! But let me tell you about Mike! He is such a positive, welcoming, friendly presence. We honestly went back for brunch just to see him again! It’s always nice to meet friendly people especially in these times! You can’t go wrong with this restaurant!!!
Marilyn Hartmann
The food and service here was excellent. Very casual environment. Dining & bar inside but they had some tables & chairs outside too. We ate outside on a very lovely day. Servers were very conscious about cleanliness. Would definitely come again. This place is in downtown Milwaukee so be aware parking is either on the street or a lot.
Bill Janke
This place was outstanding! The chef uses 🥕 as their vegetable of design. The carrot soup was fantastic and the grilled vermouth carrots were delightful. My only complaint was that the portions were inconsistent. I received about half as many as my friend. Other than that small issue the food was great and the prices were very reasonable for the atmosphere and quality.
Caleb Makor
Drinks were great here. Hostess was very uninviting turned us down twice. One wouldn't expect this kind of attitude in Milwaukee
Jocelyn Fuller
My fiance and I came across Swinging Door after seeing so many great reviews. We stopped in on a beautiful Friday evening and took a table outside. Michael was our server and was an excellent host, recommending things to try on the menu and places to visit in the city. We had the spicy vermouth carrots and immediately fell in love with them. Michael recommended the grilled beets. Now, I am not a big fan of beets - but these things were awesome. We loved them. Now for my favorite part - their Old Fashioned cocktail made with apple brandy. I raved about the drink for our entire trip and even made sure we returned so I could have it again. My favorite Old Fashioned of all time and one of the best drinks I have ever had. I just loved everything about it. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. Food, drink, atmosphere and service were all fantastic!
Rob Preusch
This place has real charm. The food was good, I had the tuna steaks. I ate at the bar and the service was great. The only thing I would not do if I make it to Milwaukee again, is sit close to the door. It was about 20 degrees that night and each time the door opened, I could feel the cold air swoop in as it blew my napkin right off my lap.
Belinda Chastain
At a conference and stopped by to grab some dinner. Steak was great so went back two days later! Ribs are the best and coming from a southern girl, that's a fabulous compliment! Great service, great food, great atmosphere! This place is fantastic! Try the Brussels sprouts, they are delicious!
Tim Lamkin
Great food and great service. This is an intimate place with a very strong menu that is expertly prepared. We sat at the bar and enjoyed excellent bloody Mary's and an excellent bartender. Sherry is the best. The spinach and artichoke rolls are delicious. Corned beef hash and grilled Russian were excellent. Get your face in this place.
Ashley Elizabeth
Great little spot! Wonderful staff! My ahi tuna steak came with a side of carrots and I am not a huge fan of those orange sticks. However my waitress insisted that I try them and I just have to say I hate how much I loved them! I ate them all up! Fun atmosphere too!
Chelsea Baker
This is one of our favorite spots in MKE.
The staff is amazing, and you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in.
I love all of the food - but my go-to is a tuna salad sandwich with the homemade chips, and a side of their spicy carrots. SO GOOD! They have a number of vegetarian options, too.
The bartenders and staff are always full of great conversation, too.
The only downside is that it is often crowded (because it's so great!) and can be hard to find a seat during busy times - seems like a good problem to have, though!
Justin Polland
Staff was super friendly! Drinks were amazing, especially the tart margaritas! Food not only delicious saved us from the let down that was Screaming Tuna. Their chili only made me wish I had a cinnamon roll beside it. Not only was it great to be across from the hotel but it saved our only night in town.
Thanks to everyone there!
Gautham Vinod
Loved the Mussels. The staff was very friendly.
Harris Connell
Excellent food! The short ribs had some great flavors as did the salted caramel mousse. Decor is sort of vintage and classy. The space itself isn't that big, but they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. Reservations definitely recommended! The staff was friendly and service was spot on.
Reza Sajedinia
Good food, awesome service and nice old environment.
Nicholas Robinson
What a neat place!
The look and feel, super cozy.
The menu has good variety but isn't pricy. I hope to eventually make my way though everything! (I haven't yet so don't blame me if you get a sub-par steak)
And they have an apple-cinnamon old fashioned on the menu that was on point.
I think I'm lucky to visit on Thursday because I imagine they're packed on weekends.
Holly Hennessy
Step back in time and have great food at the same time! Happy staff, happy times!
Antonette Girmscheid
New Years Day 2022. Been here before, always good. I had a BLT, with lots of B! I had the most delicious Brussel Sprouts. OMG, next time I'm just ordering the Brussel Sprouts! Hubby had an excellent grilled Russian w/fries. My Bloody Mary paired perfectly with BLT and sprouts. Great way to start off new year!
Sandra W
Got the very last table on a Friday night. Excellent ribs and a Spotted Cow before a show at the nearby Pabst Theater. Restaurant was very crowded by the time we left. Seems like a popular local spot so get there early! Great food and atmosphere. Check it out!
Jeff Crain
Good food and vibe. Enjoyed the lunch. Bloody Mary's are pretty spectacular.
ks15821
Excellent fish fry along with other entrées! Cozy and rustic with fantastic customer service! Food was hot and served in an acceptable time frame. My wife and I love this place👍🏾 …
David Anderson
We had a great time sitting outside in the beautiful Milwaukee summer weather! The garlic missiles were amazing and with a generous portion. I had the Reuben with chili, and my spouse had the beet and goat cheese salad. Both were excellent. Great service and an excellent experience. I will definitely return!
Sharon J. Gray
Staff both on the phone and in the restaurant were pleasant and efficient. My order was ready exactly when they said it would be and was fantastic. My Prime Dip sandwich was a great size and I love that they didn't skimp on the au jus like so many places tend to do. It was big enough that I was able to save the other half for later and it warmed up nicely. The house chips were definitely top-tier as well.
Gigi Serio
First time here. Ordered 2 beef sliders with Cajun ranch and homemade chips with blue cheese dip, both were very good. Service was decent...a few hiccups but nothing major. Will definitely be back and will highly recommend to others.
Casey Bishop
No reason why the Swinging Door is Milwaukee’s oldest and 1st Bar. Their staff are absolute soldiers and I tip my hat to them! They’ve kept their cool and continued to deliver top-notch Grade A service through Covid, snow, sleet, rain, and drunk patrons from the Midwest… Illinois…and beyond!!!
THE BEST and ONLY Mandatory stop anyone needs to make while in downtown Milwaukee!!! The REAL Brew-City!!!
Hendrick Long
This is a tiny place and you may have to wait for table. However, its worth the wait. The food was outstanding. Their Hungarian sausage is spicy and huge. Their Prime Rib melt dip is also fantastic. Finally, the turkey rueben (the Rachel) was very tasty. The point is every dish we had was great. Our only complaint is having to wait fairly long for a table and once we did get one, it took a while for our food to come out.
Wai Moe
I don’t leave many reviews, but this place was absolutely amazing. The busser helped us park outside and our waiter made sure we had every single little thing for our meal. The cocktails and food were unbelievable! Even the draft beer had no foam. Will definitely be coming back to try more menu items! It’s a refreshing experience to come out to during the pandemic.
Dan R
Food was delicious. I had the simple grilled cheese with Turkey and it was exactly that. The only negative was the less than inviting attitude of the bartender. I had inquired if a specific alcohol was kept on the shelf and I got a stern and annoyed "no". Luckily we sat at a table and were served by a delightful waitress instead.
Bill Davies
Was super busy so I had two beers while waiting for a bar seat. Was totally worth it. Friendly staff, great food. French dip with horseradish on the side was fire.
Chris Bader
Absolutely phenomenal!!! The food is incredible, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're at your local watering hole!! If you make a trip to Milwaukee and don't stop in, you've missed out. Try the vermouth carrots or the beets! You won't be dissatisfied!! 5 stars is not enough
Jonathan Wright
I reserve my 5 stars for the very best of the restaurants, and wavered a little on giving this restaurant the full marks, but the servers are knowledgeable, the drinks are good, it's cozy, I really enjoyed my food, and what tipped it over the edge was how awesome all the patrons were. In a crowded restaurant, where you could scarcely stand without jostling people, the other guests were kind, considerate, and friendly. It's rare to attract good people. It's more than just the food. 5 absolutely deserved stars!
Jennifer Henry
Such a unique and fun environment! The food was amazing. I had a black bean soup and a bacon, tomato, and avocado sandwich which was so good I may go back today. Will definitely be back again soon!!!
Jacob Johnson
I have visited here many times, but most recently I visited with my wife and her dad on a Sunday afternoon in March 2019. The atmosphere here is great, and it will likely be busy. The wait shouldn't be too long though, we've never had to wait more than about 20 minutes. The menu is full of unique creations, and I would highly recommend the burgers. They're vermouth carrots are very good, and if you're interested in their chicken tenders starter, make sure you've got a few people to share as the chicken tenders are unlike any you've seen. Overall, this is a great spot to take out of towners or suggest to locals as many haven't been.
Emily Murphy
Nice cozy atmosphere with a full bar and fantastic menu. I've ordered a variety of items off the menu and every time I am impressed with what I ordered. This place is usually busy and has a small dining area, but the wait is worth it and you can order a drink from the bar while you wait. In the warmer months they do offer outdoor seating. The bar is open until 2am and they stop serving food at 10pm.
Bryan Clarke
Great stop for cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and excellent food.
carmine lomonaco
Chicken cheese dip is very good, wouldn't say it was "holy crap" good though regarding the review I read which me me order it. I was. very happy with my Saturday steak special with the beets on side which were great also, not crazy great, as well as the avocado chicken sandwich. Chili was lacking, don't go for that. Enjoyed the atmosphere just as much. Awesome place definitely.
Matthew Peace
Great food and a killer bloody mary
Evan Bryant
Great food and beverages. I got the blackened chicken avocado sandwich with vermouth carrots and it was delicious. Their chili is amazing as well. Really cool atmosphere for chill dinner or a drink at the bar. Outdoor seating is an option as well. Highly recommend.
Rylee Harrington
After attending a concert, a local recommended this place to me and my friend for a good place to get brunch. He even told us who to ask for. So happy we came to a local restaurant instead of finding a typical tourist place. Eating at Swingin' Door was the cherry on top of my trip. The place was packed but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. The service and food was unlike any place I'd been. Highly recommend.
Tristan Stocker
So glad to see this place is still open. I used to frequent this joint oh idk... 6-7 years ago? Was one of my watering holes for the glorious happy hour and amazing food. Unfortunately I don't live in Wisconsin anymore but when I come back for a visit I'll for sure be hitting this place up. The pulled pork sandwich . . . 🐷😩🤤 …
Nicholas Averill
The food here is amazing. I’ve never had a dish that wasn’t top notch. The service is really good but it can get very crowded and long wait times in the evenings. You can’t beat their happy hour $5 for 3 PBR or rolling rocks. I’ve had recently the French dip , buffalo chicken dip, and Ruben all have not disappointed and the best chicken dip I’ve had anywhere home made or elsewhere.
Ashalina Monrial
When I started working downtown, my coworkers RAVED about this place and now we make it a weekly routine to come down here on our lunches and have some amazing food (AMAZING) and on days we get lucky, we see the BEST server, Nicole. If you ever get her you know you are in good hands. She goes above and beyond and is the best server we have ever had! We make it a habit to always look for her now when we’re there. We will always be lifelong customers to this great little joint ❤️ With love, The Dentists 🦷
Carl Mack
The fish fry was tasty! Loved the Brussels sprouts and the grilled beets were delicious as well. We did the 3 for $5 hamms and loved it.
M M
The vibe/ambiance is top notch! Really feels like an old-timey saloon. Staff was friendly. I got the patty melt, and while tasty, it was a bit too greasy. Mom got baked fish; she cleaned her plate off if that's any indication. Will definitely be back.
Brenda Peterson
This is a hidden gem innheart of downtown Milwaukee!! Hands down The Best food!! It's a kiss the cook experience the Vermuth Carrots and Brussel sprouts are amazing and always wonderful service!! Highly recommend!!!
andrew coburn
I have to appreciate a place that serves house chips to the patrons. We came for drinks, because we missed the kitchen, so the chips were nice.
Lauren Anderson
Just had diner here with my boyfriend. The place is very cozy and intimate, perfect for a date! The food was sooo good. The Brussel sprouts were seriously top 5 foods I’ve ever had, they are a must get!
Moses Benitez
This hidden gem has great food and great service. Tried the Steak & Mussels and was extremely satisfied.
Kelly
This is our favorite Milwaukee "go to" -- which we think must be something said by LOTS and LOTS of people because the only drawback is that it's so fantastic, it can be hard to find a time that it isn't packed. Great atmosphere that's nostalgic tavern / pub. We moved here a year ago and found this place the nigh we rolled into town. From that visit to now, we're always made to feel like we've been coming in for years and are valued regulars. The food is great with rotating specials -- even if you aren't a carrot fan, convince someone in your party to get them and you'll be converted :) Always good food, always good people and we like to joke that this is where the friendliest Milwaukee people hang out because everyone is always friendly and nice.
Neelotpal Shukla
Absolutely amazing! Warm atmosphere, great staff, complementary traditional Thanksgiving meal and desserts with drinks. Yes, they were open on Thanksgiving! Being an international, this was a truly great American experience for me. The pecan pie is out of this world - hands down the best pecan dish I have ever had. The drinks are good too.
Douglas Keyes
went here for the first time last night and our experience certainly lived up to the reviews i have read on here. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in. The waitress Melissa was terrific! She really made us feel at home and was very helpful with going over the menu. I had the Crispy chicken sandwich with the home made chips. Both were excellent. My wife had the lake perch with fries which she said was also excellent and she is picky about her lake perch. The bartender makes a mean Old Fashioned. We stayed for one more than we planned because they were so good. Nice job, SDE! We'll be back real soon.
Angelica Lewis
Food is absolutely delicious!! Love the atmosphere as soon as you walk in it takes you somewhere else. Definitely will be back!
Dan Lunney
Old school Wisconsin pub with amazing food. The pike po'boy was great. Great service. The triple layer carrot cake was among the best I have ever had.
Julie Toelle
I came by this place driving by I actually love this place it was a very cozy friendly place..the food was great they have a watermelon salad I tried and I was taking back on how good watermelon is in salad..Brussels sports and sliders where great our sever was fast friendly,I accidentally left my phone there and they where nice enough to hold it for me till I came back for it ..just a all around place you want to be..
Bridget Costigan
Always fabulous and friendly. My food was perfect but I think I've tried most everything on the menu over the past few years except beef which my husband has no complaints about. I'm not horribly carnivorous except chicken and well fone occasional bacon. I eat fish and tofu options too. I never run out of great options here.
Ron Pinkoski
I get to Milwaukee one week a year, and the Swingin' Door Exchange is always on my list. The grilled sweet vermouth carrots are awesome. 3 for 5 PBRs are a nice touch, but there's so much more to eat and drink. Always seems to be a friendly crowd around the bar. Definitely worth a visit.
Jorlyn Jones
Nice, cozy restaurant. My husband came here for dinner, we were seated promptly and our server, Michael was great. He was kind and very attentive. The food was good.
Britt Harrison
This is a cozy little place. It's cute and like the service. However, if you are going to have bartenders, have them know their job and if garnishes go with certain drinks and shots. I know I am being a little high-society right now, but would rather not have to ask for them.
Arnie B
Decent but unspectacular food in a cozy but somewhat small restaurant. It was about 1/2 full when we went at 3pm on a Saturday but the food took a long time to come and they got 1 order wrong. The grilled Russian was good, and my wife liked her cheese melt but felt it could have been more flavorful. The onion haystack was awesome
Jim B
Small place that looks like it hasn't been updated since 1979. Not good for groups of 5 or more. 4 is doable but it is tight! Been here a few times over the past year and every experience is pretty much the same. Food is decent but nothing special. Service is fair at best. With such a small dining area you would think the servers could keep orders straight but they don't seem to try to hard.
Thanh Tran
Drove up to Milwaukee for the day from Chicago. Found this spot while walking around and it did not disappoint! The owner was behind the bar, chatting with patrons and everyone was so friendly. Their chicken sliders were out of this world, one of the best I’ve had!
nick miller
Im in town for vacation, and am certainly glad i stopped here for a meal. I had the strip steak med rare with bleu cheese and a side of chips, and it was easily one of the best steak dinners ive ever had. Mike brought excellent service to the entire meal and i loved the beer he recommended. Totally enjoyable experience from start to finish!!!!
Carol Estep
Food and drinks were great! Waitress was very nice and helpful. The rest of the staff kept watching us and putting pressure on us to leave even though we were ordering drinks and enjoying the atmosphere. The restaurant had plenty of open tables. We had a hefty bill and they didn't seem to appreciate it.
Katie Wildner
Smaller pub like location for after work drinks and lunch/dinner. Food has always been quality and they have a good variety of menu options. Service is also very friendly and accommodating...bigger groups (9+ adults) not really necessarily recommended because of the location size but if you get here early enough and your name on the list it's always worth the wait.
Haskeljk
Best downtown restaurant easily. Food is great and reasonably priced. Always a good crowd of Milwaukee's finest
Scott Sims
With all this covid. The experience was perfect. Service was friendly and the food was wonderful. Had the chicken, bacon with avocado sandwich. The 10 oz. New York steak cooked perfectly superb flavor. Highly recommend.
Lee Ensminger
Great local grub pub. Good food and nice beer selection.
Travis Urban
Great food at very good prices considering the location. Staff has always been pleasant and professional.
Michael Espana
Great place. Super friendly long bearded bartender loves out of town visitors! Let him know how much you love the bar!
Jeff Weaver
Historic pub in the Third Ward district. Super friendly staff. Food is way better than typical pub food.
The Friday fish fry is excellent and includes potato pancakes! Yum!
Krista Stokes
The pork chop sandwich is a must try here. I heard the chili and tuna melt were both great as well. I would love to try more dished here next time I am in town. PS... The service was great too!
Suzanne Kalra
Favorite bar food in Milwaukee, hands down. I absolutely love going to the Swingin' Door when I am in the mood for a delicious sandwich or burger. Expect to go hungry and come out full. The food can be quite heavy. The service is always super friendly and prompt. I have not been on Friday so I cannot speak for their fish fry, but it tends to always have a line!
Scott Lemerond
Great food. Especially recommend the blackened chicken avacado and bacon sandwich
Shazam! Computer Repair
It’s okay. My passengers rave about this place. Why?! I was told that they have the best Fish Fry. No they don’t. It’s just ok. Had a difficult time finding a parking spot, took me like 15 minutes to get one. They did took care of me on the last minute, before they closed the kitchen down. 3 minutes I had to order. No problem, I knew what I wanted. I understand, but I took a long time parking my van. Service was very good, Michael helped me out. Food was okay. Won’t return there again. I just don’t understand why so many people raved about this place. It’s a real hole in the wall place.
emily geiger
I loved the Swingin' Door Exchange. The food was an excellent take on traditional pub food. Great flavors and a lot of choices that would can accommodate everyone. The only reason I gave this 4 and not 5 stars was that there was not a good spot to wait, and the wait was well over an hour long. Highly suggest making a reservation for this place if you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night. Otherwise, overall it was a great experience.
Milwaukee WI
Great local bar with great food! The burgers, French dip and fish fry are awesome! They have a nice selection of other foods and super cozy place along with a nice staff. The drink selection is very good along with decent prices for downtown.
Aaron Barbee (A-A-Ron)
It's a pretty small place, but they have a pretty extensive menu and attentive staff. Food took a very long time to arrive, but it tasted great.
UPDATE: the spicy, vermouth carrots are OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD amazing!!! I can't get enough of them. My 2nd visit was my first time trying them. I am sad I missed them on a previous visit. Get them!! You won't be disappointed. :)
Nicole Kelly
We came here for the first time tonight and Michael was beyond wonderful! He was the best waiter I have ever had and did such a fantastic job going over the details of the menu with us and just being super attentive. The food was great too, make sure to get the chicken tenders! :)
Phil Opino
I've only been to Milwaukee twice, and I visited here both times. Had the burger once and the eggs benedict w/ spinach the other time. Both dishes are probably some of the best I've had anywhere. Servers are friendly.
K Ashley
We were here in Milwaukee for a week visiting from So. Carolina and tried Swingin door on Sunday night. The NY Strip steak and angus burger they both were great! Came back on Wednesday and had the ribs and they were fantastic! Being from a BBQ & rib state I have to say Great Job! Food is great and very reasonably price! When we come back we will definitely visit you! We are here for two more days and may come back Friday. IT'S THAT GOOD Love your food!
Tabitha Thompson
Food is fantastic!! Best Chicken sliders around! The chips with ranch dip were on point! Side of carrots were outstanding!! More restaurants red to offer a side of carrots!
Michael Fischer
The food is out of this world and the service is just as good if not better. We had Michael for our server today and he knocked it out of the park. Wish every server could be that good.
Jason Martinko
Small, quaint, busy and we loved it. Great food and service for a cost that didn't upset my wallet. It's small so be prepared for it and it can be a bit busy as well. Steak special on Saturday night is worth the trip.
kyle pittman
This place was full of patrons so you can tell it is well known. I would say it was a mix of locals and visiting travelers. The drinks we had were fine, but we do not enjoy paper straws. I would rather be told to bring my own reusable straw than have my straw dissolve while I drink. The other patrons we're very welcome to conversation, more so than the bartenders. Overall it was fine, but I'm not sure why Yelp and Google have such strong ratings. I didn't see or taste anything so special that it would be worth a 5 star. We went a couple blocks away and found some great food and drinks the more we searched.
Janice Lynch
I've been here a couple of times for lunch. The food was very good both times, as was the service. My first visit I had the Sandwich Special of the day. It was sourdough bread with turkey, ham, several cheeses, bacon, grilled onions and orange marmalade, all grilled to melty perfection. There was something magical about the salty cheesiness with the sweet marmalade. It was honestly the best grilled cheesy creation I've ever had. I wish it was on the menu! Please put it on the menu! Seriously, I'm begging you! Today I had the grilled Russian which was good but not something I will dream about. Both times I got the grilled marinated beets as my side because I love beets and theirs are perfection. I stole some of the vermouth carrots from one of my friends and they are quite good too, but not quite as good as the beets.
Agrarian Arc
This is one of those places you don't want anyone else to know about because you want to keep it your little secret, but you just can't help but share it with everyone! Delicious food (try the Reuben and spicy vermouth carrots!) and laid-back, cozy atmosphere that will make you feel right at home in Milwaukee. Brunch hits the spot. Haven't had their fish fry yet but have heard good things. The new owners are doing a wonderful job.
Alexandra Peter
Both times my boyfriend and I have been here it has been amazing. As we were waiting for our table (30ish) minutes I saw many people leave...dont make this mistake! This restaurant is well worth the wait. I got the NY strip with the vermouth carrots and yum ❤️ chili was just the right amount of heat!
Danielle Zahn
Really awesome place! This is a hidden gem ladies and gentlemen. Yes there is a genuine wooden bar with the traditional seating. The Irish-type drinks and mixes are swell. The lunch menu comes in half servings and will not disappoint. Parking lot on the cheap within walking distance. Be responsible, drink responsibly!
Carly Plemons
Excellent service! Shelly and KC are so welcoming! They take pride in their business and it shows. Best fish fry I've had in a while! If you're down town make sure this place makes it on your agenda!!
Andrew Bates
I’m writing this review from inside the restaurant because this place was absolutely incredible. I’m visiting Milwaukee for the weekend and this is the first place I’ve eaten, and I see no reason why I should even try somewhere else. The Grilled Russian was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in years (and trust me, I’ve eaten a lot of sandwiches). They kept checking to make sure I was good on drinks (the Miller Lite may have been a factor in me writing my first ever review, but that’s fine) and overall just a great place with great atmosphere and even better food.
Jarod Richter
Top 3 milwaukee fish fry's. Staff is usually great and drinks are always strong!
Lucia Carter
Wow! Love this place. A little dark and "hole in the wallesque" but the food is always delicious. Never eaten anything from here i didn't like. Best thing here is the buffalo chicken dip. It's addictive. The burgers are incredible. I could go on. Always packed for dinner when we go.
Mark Rasmussen
Quality meals with interesting surprises. I've never liked beets or cooked carrots, but both are done well enough that I would order them again. Main courses are satisfying and delicious. 3.5 stars. Decent beer menu.
Jackie Porter
I selected Swingin' Door Exchange for one of our office Essential Worker lunches and the entire team is glad that I did. Everyone loved their food, even telling me, "This is the best food I've had since the Coronavirus came along!" My order was ready exactly when they said it would be and was fantastic.
Lance Larson
I ordered A Meatless Burger with a side of fries. I also ordered a Sprecker Root Beer. The customer service was awesome, kind, and very accommodating. The waiter checked on my friend and I often and was very knowledgeable in regard to the menu.
Meryl Fitzpatrick
Came in for cocktails and a quick bite and this hit the spot! She got the good land cranberry lemonade and he got a New Glarus moon man. The lemonade was very delicious & refreshing! We split a Reuben & it was wonderful, warm and toasty (in the middle of a blizzard). We got the vermouth roasted carrots as the side and they were very good as well.
Ronnie Garcia
There's really not enough good things to say about this place.
Cool, historic environment/atmosphere.
Amazing food.
Great prices.
Friendly people.
Any time I'm remotely in the area I make time to stop at Swingin Door. Ive taken many friends and family here before attending an event and everyone has loved it as well.
Highly recommend.
Jeffrey Budoff
Good food the seared ahi was excellent.
Kerry B
We loved the atmosphere and the food was amazing! I had the blackened chicken sandwich with carmelized brussel spouts - it was outstanding! No one in our group of 6 was disappointed. I would absolutely return to the Swingin’ Door Exchange the next time I am in town!
Side note - this is a smaller, cozy style restaurant and bar, it may not be suitable for larger groups.
Jim Canfield
A not so hidden gem of a place and a must stop when I'm in town. Ridiculous ribs and fried beats.....can't get that just anywhere. All food is amazing, you can't go wrong. Great drinks at reasonable prices. The best!
Heath Tibbetts
I don't like to give 5 stars, but I can't help it! This place is smaller than I expected, so you're tables don't leave much privacy of conversation, but the wait was much less than advertised. Went for the Friday fish fry, and I haven't had any better. Fantastic service, and we tried a couple of special sides that were well worth it. The price was so good for the two us we were shocked!
Raven Jaxsnerdymommy
It was ok. It was surprising to see the bartender without a face mask and patrons sitting at the bar without masks as well. Either way, the bartender was very nice and complimentary. The food was ok, think I was expecting something more flavorful. The food was bland, it tasted like it was trying too hard but not getting there. The only way I can explain it is if someone thought pepper was a unique spice. But I don’t think that scene is meant for younger patrons, it seemed really old and dark even in the daytime. I’m giving it 4 stars because it was ok, I just wouldn’t go back.
Sheila Quigley
We started out at Mo's pub and ordered an appeitizer that was nasty decided to walk down to Swingin Door and so glad that we did. This place was awesome. Great service. Food was superb. Started with buffalo chicken dip, which was AMAZING. I had the fried chicken sandwich and fries and my husband had the special, which was jumbo buffalo shrimp with potato cakes and coleslaw. We will be back!!!
Patrick Deignan
My wife and I always visit the Swingin' Door Exchange when we're in Milwaukee. It's a great local spot for lunch or dinner. The Saturday night steak special is one of the best deals anywhere. I highly recommend the vermouth carrots and the caramelized brussels sprouts as sides. Both were delicious. On our most recent visit, we received amazing service and recommendations from our server Michael. Thanks for a great dinner!
Dawn Guderley
Only giving this place 4 stars because they were busy and we had to wait for a table, so we only had time for drinks and appetizers. HOWEVER, our drinks were mixed perfectly, our appetizers tasted amazing, and our server Michael provided superb service. We will be back for dinner to give them a chance to raise it to 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ! …
Allyssa Clapsaddle
Great service and amazing food to go along with it. Get the fried Brussels. Please. I'm begging you to get the fried Brussels. I've had multiple meals here all amazing. The place is small, so be patient getting seated, but it will be worth the wait.
The Budgetarian
One of my favorite local lunch spots downtown. Old Milwaukee charm, and a killer lunch menu with reasonable prices. Try the 4 C’s chicken, it never disappoints!
Mike Driscoll
This place has some of the best food and classic cocktails you will find in Milwaukee. Servers are friendly, atmosphere is relaxed and comfy. Great specials too. Do your self a favor and order the crunchy chicken sandwich and a Manhattan, you can thank me later.
ryck garcia
Great food! Welcoming atmosphere, cozy and warm.
First time there last night and had the kc Burger. Very good.
Will definitely be going back
Richard Boston
Great spot! Atmosphere, has sports but so not a Champion's style hyped sports bar. Much better here!
The Hungarian sausage sandwich, locally made, is awesome! The Brussels sprouts below average. They should roast them moist (with added strip of bacon to supply some oil...) instead of dry. But that;s just me!
I live in Boston. But will be back!
Frank Offutt
Randomly selected a place for lunch on Tuesday and experienced the Taco Tuesday experience at the Swinging Door. Our group took the opportunity to use the side side table to savor the Milwaukee experience on a warm Fall afternoon. Darren, our server, insured a pleasant dining experience.
Ashley Rail
My husband and I get kinda picky when it comes to food and this place was absolutely delicious. Even though the food is pretty much made from scratch, it didn't take too long in a packed place to get our order. We got ahi tuna, brussel sprouts, carrots, and mushrooms topped with avocado and it was absolutely to die for. It may be pretty busy bit a great stop.
Ian Carroll
I really wanted to love Swingin Door but left feeling underwhelmed. The service was sub par but the food was good. The space is very small so expect to wait but the biggest turn off was that the staff seemed to have no control over the place. There were at least 2 HEAVILY intoxicated people just roaming around, going up to tables and bothering people and no one did anything. I get that stuff like that happens but one of them just sat back down at the bar and kept annoying other patrons. It was off putting
DawnMarie O'Donnell
What a fun restaurant and great energy! Our waitress was phenomenal! The food was fantastic! Great presentation and fair pricing. The only thing was the quarters were a little tight , however, it was a Friday night during the rush hour.
Nathan Pheney
I really liked this place. The bbq was very good. As were the beats and carrots. Bartender pours a good ipa :)
Kelsey B
Hung out for drinks, apps, sandwiches between a wedding ceremony and far away cocktail hour. Impressed with apps. Nice staff. Pitchers from the taps made it easy for our large group of friends. Sandwiches good too. Recommend.
Brian Bolier
Don’t pass this place up if you’re in town. Amazing food, service is great and you will start to think about owning a bar after two drinks. A step back in time when a bar was awesome. Bartenders are the best - crowd is equally as perfect.
Matthew West
Excellent food and service! While this hidden gem appears to be mostly a bar, they do have some of the best sandwiches and burgers in town. They also serve excellent "home cooking" food. Highly recommended!
Tony Knuppel
The interior look & feel is the epitome of an old-school Milwaukee bar. Went there with my wife on a packed Friday evening and the bartender saw we were waiting a long time so he gave me an extra Schlitz. Ordered the fish fry which was incredible. We both found the fries to be A+. If you're in the mood to party and don't mind the wait, this place is quintessential Wisconsin and highly recommended.
Jennifer Moczygemba
Very friendly service. Great atmosphere and good food. Has the feel of great local hangout. Here it can be quite busy.
Hannah Torvick
I don't even want to know how much money I've spent here over the years....this place is fantastic. 3 for 5 deal on certain canned beer (best deal I've seen in the area), every menu option is a good one. Great owners and staff. Great daily specials. Get the spicy vermouth carrots, they are life changing.
Scott Walhovd
Great little hole in the wall for breakfast with a dimmer atmosphere and cozy tables. The menu variety was a little lacking, with most options revolving around eggs in one form or another. I really wanted some yogurt and fresh fruit but didn't see that option on the menu. I opted for a couple of eggs and toast and everything turned out fine. My friends did end up getting some of their hashbrowns and they looked amazing. If you want variety, I'd look elsewhere but if you want solid classic breakfast options, this is your spot.
Colton Bast
The past 3 times I've been here their pickles were warm and dry, no crunch at all.....everything else is phenomenal. just need to up your pickle game
Blackjack Sass
Bob is the best!!! And, as someone who spent 25 years in the city of Chicago, I can honestly say when they do a Chicago style dog... it's CORRECT. I've had a few things off their menu and have yet to be disappointed. This place has definitely earned my respect and is more than worth a try. Y'all need to check it out!!!
Stephen Anson
Delicious food, and our server was fantastic too! We had brussles sprouts, Reubens, Beet salad, tuna said, chile, and club sandwiches. All were enjoyed.
MJ Ball
We're Bay View natives but this is possibly our favorite spot in the whole city. Brunch can't be beat, the staff is amazing and the atmosphere is on point. Truly an absolute gem of the city.
Emily is an amazing server, prompt, professional, helpful and fun. And during our last visit the chef/owner Casey even came out to make sure our meal was up to snuff (it always is!) and answer any questions, he also remembered us by name and said goodbye as we left. Definitely a place we're truly happy to support.
Alexandra Dalzell
The food was beyond amazing, the service was outstanding, our food came out quickly, our server, Nicole, was the NICEST person on earth. I would really recommend it to everyone. My family and went to many restaurants and this by far was the best one yet!
Cameron Houghton
Had a couple of different sandwiches(blackened chicken and sriracha chicken) here that were amazing. Only reason I was hesitant to give 5 is because of the carrots they push on you, which were not that good. Overall a great experience and would recommend to anyone in Milwaukee.
Tony Novinska
Excellent Fish Fry. Good bar service, and the best potato pancakes I've ever had! Our waitress was also very friendly, and had several suggestions off of their menu. I go back here again in a heartbeat!
John Yard
Great bar, didn't have the food, but it looked good. Service was great, nice selection of cocktails.
Andrew Stoll
We have been here twice while visiting. Most recently, we came in late one night during the week and pretty much closed it out. The bartender was super nice and accommodating, the drinks were good, and the atmosphere was cozy.
Jon Lynch
I went here for the fish fry. I would say it is about average. They also have a limited drink menu. It is quite small as well. They have about 4 tables for outdoor seating in front. They also have a safe in the back that is original back to the old Western Union days.
Linda Johnson
It took a long time to get our food after we ordered. I thought the French toast was a little much with so many oats on it. First time I was there for breakfast. Lunch had always been super good.
Jim Johnson
I went here with some co-workers for lunch and got their special, which was a pulled pork sandwich with some heat. It was delicious and our server was awesome. Great spot for some great food. A hidden gem in Milwaukee!
Jeremiah Bostick
Try the roasted beets as a side or in the Roasted Beet salad. You will not be disappointed. This place is outstanding. I was in town on business for a week and ate here almost every night. Everything I ate was excellent. They have a good selection of beers. It is a small restaurant and is crowded during the evenings.
B. Rogers
Food was Great! Cool atmosphere, only downside was size, I went during lunch and it’s a pretty small place so it was tight (really close tables) and since it was so busy service was a lil slow (not too bad though, worth it)but the server was very nice. I’d definitely go back and I do recommend.
Christine Fish
Come here for elevated bar fare and the amazing staff that's always there to greet you with a smile and some great food and cocktails. Swingin and flingin food and drink into your belly is their specialty!!
Starvin Marvin
Didn't stay. Only got takeout. Atmosphere was nice. Friendly people. More of a bar then restaurant but food was awesome. Little bit of a long wait for the food but was definitely worth it.
Ashley Capodarco
Obsessed with this place. It is downtown but has a dive vibe, delicious food. My only concern is their commitment to preventing the spread of COVID-19. They have policies in place for hand sanitizing and keeping people separated, but their staff do not wear masks. When eating, I don't have a choice but to be vulnerable to the waitstaff. Please consider requiring your staff to wear masks to protect your customers.
Minga Don
The crispy chicken is some of the best ever if you like crispy you'll get it! Brussel sprouts are amazing and last but not least the BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP IS BANGING IN LITTLE ROCK taste just like my own! The only down fall is the place is small and they take forever to bring your food.
Kerry Keller
Really awesome, authentic speakeasy type bar. Loved the bartender! She suggested several great places to visit during our stay. And all of her suggestions were amazing! I can definitely say that I would visit again!
Cabby z
Friendly, efficient waitress. Quick service (late lunch). Only down check, don't ask how I want my burger cooked, if it's going to be medium-well regardless.
Joseph Castro
Discovered this place by accident, real old timey feel with a great selection of beer, i expect nothing less of a place located in milwaukee. The food was delicious, the soup had an odd twist which my companion didn't enjoy all to well but overall i was beyond satisfied with my meal and I look forward to coming back.
jakeseverson
Small, cozy bar with a great atmosphere
Great place to stop for a beer
Eastin Bricco
Service was bad and the food was lackluster considering the hype.
Henrik Fritzon
Huge positive surprise! Great atmosphere, service and food! 10/10 experience!
John Behm
Super friendly staff and great burgers. Went on a Sunday to meet a buddy for lunch. The server suggested a spotted cow with a splash of OJ. So good, my new Sunday morning cocktail.
Richard Jones
Staying at the Hilton Garden Inn and walked out to find the Swing Door Exchange Saloon. Melissa was our waitress and gave us great service. My wife had the Perch and I had the Russian sandwich & Vermouth Carrots, all were great. Lots of locals there that I take as a good sign. Go and enjoy.
Mason Becker
Very unique place, with a very old school vibe. Nice atmosphere. We went on a Thursday night, and had the shrimp and some sliders. It was all delicious, and the cocktails were excellent. We will definitely go back some time.
Logan Fortney
Reuben was so good. Love the atmosphere
Denise Kerr
Wow. A great lunch spot downtown. The decor makes you want to stay there all afternoon. The food was fantastic. Best roasted beets I'very ever had and was a great alternative to french fries.
James Larson
Stopped by for some drinks, these were fine. Two bartenders, one was decent and the other must have been having a long night because he was rude to the point that it was almost comical. Except it wasn’t.
Greg Sowell
Homemade BBQ sauce is among best I've ever tasted. Cheese dip also good stuff. Atmosphere is also very relaxing. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Milwaukee.
Barry Maalot
I love this place. It’s a beautiful old bar with cool brewerania and wood paneling everywhere, very good food and drinks at reasonable prices and the staff is always kind and attentive. Great spot for a steak dinner, a sandwich for lunch, or an excellent corned beef hash for breakfast. Love bringing out of town friends here after a long night of drinking.
Deron Kling
A unique menu with both traditional and unique options. The food was delicious, the service excellent. Although it was busy, it didn't feel like it. I enjoyed the beef and asparagus soup, it was excellent.
Mike Bohlmann
We arrived a little after noon for lunch and there was a small wait. The burger was one of the best that I've had in the area. I also highly recommend the the Spicy Vermouth Carrots either as an appetizer or a side.
Judith Rodriguez
My veggie melt contained generous portion of vegetables. The grilled cheese, mushroom and onions and avocado in between two slices of perfectly toasted and buttered bread were delicious! The only thing I didn't like about the sandwich was the raw cucumber inside - they were not refreshing and cold any more because everything else in the sandwich were cooked. So they were kind of watery and tasteless and added a weird texture. Personally I think they should use grilled zucchini instead.
Amit Pandya
One of the important part of your meal is to get the great customer service and this Place has a truelly amazing Services. Food is exceptionally good and tasty. One of the must try place in downtown Milwaukee. Thank you Swingin Door Exchange. You have great people working for you!! #excellemt customer service #great food. Its right across the Hilton Garden Inn.
Patrick Ruffino
The only thing they could improve is if they had more tables. When you walk past it looks like a typical bar in an old downtown building. You can come inside, sit at the bar, order a drink and watch some sports like any other bar. It isn't until you order food that you realize this place is something more. The consistent high quality of all of the food on their menu is surprising, given the reasonable prices. It's not often you can order an Ahi tuna appetizer that's just as good as a sushi place, then get a fish fry that rivals anywhere else in the city. Great food, reasonable prices, casual atmosphere and friendly staff. I highly recommend swingin' by.
Jim McCormack
Born and raised in Chicago. We’ve eaten in some of the best restaurants all over Chicagoland..let’s say that we are impressed. We just ate the very best Ribs, Reuben, carrots, beets, and muscles we have ever tasted. The Service from Mike was awesome!
Mat Larson
Ordered the Impossible Burger for carry out. The bun was perfectly grilled, the burger was juicy and meaty. The side of coleslaw had just the right amount of kick. Yum!
Eric Chedgy
Awesome food and drinks. 10/10
Fergus Earberry
There a lot of variety in the menu - from staples like grilled cheese with a choice of different cheeses to more fancy offerings like steamed mussels. And it's tightly executed, with attentive service.I started with caramelized Brussels with candied pecans as an appy. It even beat out my wife's version, perfectly flash fried and delicately seasoned. My wife's mussels had a nice garlic flavor, and she was tempted to pulick up the bowl and drink the sauce when she got full.
Sandy Hayden
Best Tuna Melt I've EVER had. Crispy, melted, great flavor. Home made chips are the bomb. I gotta go back! AND great service!
Patrick Donahue
Dive bar with a cozy vibe and good sandwiches.
Bob Ott
Excellent food and great service.
Tori Tichy
This place is wonderful! Cozy, the staff is very friendly, the food amazing! I will definitely come back! Ask for Lauren, she was very helpful as to letting me know places to visit while in town!
Benjamin Ratterman
Besides being a busy night, the service and food was still great.
Had a custom chicken sandwich that came out very good and even had some nice dessert afterward.
Overall, a nice dinner.
Lauren Soderlund
Service was good, food was okay...
It was $44 for 2 sandwiches and a couple of beers. For the same price, there are much better resturaunts in the area, imo. I wanted to give it 3.5* for food. The kitchen doesnt pay attention to orders and the food is SLOW to the table. Anyway, not terrible but wont go again.
Shawn Malone
Great food!! Will definitely be back!!!
Mary Kennell
The atmosphere was what you’d expect, the food was outstanding. It was unusual and delicious. A very unique experience all around.
Cristen Austgen
Great local joint! Bartender Nick was fun and engaging with his dice game. Complementary chips were outstanding. All in all a nice place to hang out downtown.
Laurie Peifer
Absolutely fantastic food! I had the veggie melt on sourdough with the side of carrots, my friend had chicken sandwhich with beets. We both loved our food, we agree the carrots are better than beets, but beets were good too. Will definatly be back!
Frank Walker
KC's famous corned beef hash was up to its billing DELICIOUSNESS!!! My wife loved her grilled cheese, vegetable filled, sandwich. As always, the service was friendly & attentive. Love this place.
Megan Ruffing
The food was good, but what impressed me most was the service. Each and every staff member took responsibility to take care of us. They were kind, knowledgeable and observant. You just don't find service like that anymore.... well done!
Joe Marino
The food was stellar and you can tell everyone working here has been in the restaurant game a while. Great service and the food is t die for. Glad it popped up for me to make a review because now I'm for shure going back this week. Loved it hands down.
Maxwell
Super tasty BLT. Comes with a side too, so that’s great. Chili was fantastic.
Ryan Hiscox
Best food and cheapest beer in the downtown area. Great atmosphere and people. You can always get 3 PBRs for $5. I highly recommend the Prime Dip sandwich.
kim polena
Our hotel was completely booked for breakfast and found Swingin’ Door Exchange last minute to head to with my mom. Server was INCREDIBLE, extremely friendly and timely with everything. Will 100% recommend. Food was also delicious and priced very well.
Sasha Nícolas
I loved my blackened chicken bacon avocado.
kristy buteyn
Great food, great drinks, great service
Evgen Lostrikov
There are a lot of good burger joints in Milwaukee, but in my opinion this is one the best for a good thick charbroiled burger, the rest of the menu is awesome and the have killer specials as well, which always makes it hard for me to order. The bar and server staff are some of the best in downtown!!
Jacob Piotrowski
Great downtown lunch spot. Cozy atmosphere. Food has always been excellent without issues. Service is fast and friendly, food is delivered promptly. Prices are fair too for downtown.
Rebecca Johnson
Very glad for the great service from Michael . Food was well made and had all ingredients to make it spectacular. Social distancing is being followed useless you choose to not follow. Great time and well worth coming back.
Labrina B
This is our favorite place to eat in Milwaukee. The food is exceptional and we love bringing friends and family here when they are in town! The staff is so friendly and accommodating and make you feel so welcome.
Aliy H
I was traveling for business. The food was amazing! The service was outstanding! Everything that was recommended from entrees to dessert was in point. If I ever visit Milwaukee again I will make it my priority to dine here again!
Charles Michael the 4th
Cozy atmosphere with some nice art & knick knacks to satisfy a wandering eye. I was with a group of 8. We we're told we would need to wait for a whole hour, but we were sat after 45 minutes. We shared the delicious muscles (order extra bread, you'll thank me). My girlfriend & I split a pulled pork sandwhich with fries, we loved it. My only compaint was that the waiter could have taken our whole order once we sat because had been looking at the menu for 45 minutes, but this was a minor issue with our otherwise enjoyable experience. If your ever in downtown Milwaukee, eat here.
Oh, I almost forgot, their bathrooms are hilariously small :)
Debbie Taillieu
The mussels are crazy good!! My husband said if we lived here, he would come here all the time!!
Adrian Frisk
Good food, Nice staff. Amazing bloody Mary. Try it spicy
Annah Horst
Great service, unique saloon like atmosphere, delicious food
James Forster
This place is awesome. Had a lunch date here and was not disappointed. The food was fantastic. It was super busy for lunch so expect that. But if you get a table this is a great spot to grab a meal.
Jennifer Abing
I've been here a couple times, and each time was great. Amazing food and bloody Mary's. Service is great and I love the old timey atmosphere. Perfect for all ages; better for small groups.

I'm confident this is my favorite place in town! The food is amazing and the atmosphere is chill and fun. I've always had a good time and excellent food here. The Vermouth carrots and grilled beets are the best!

Here's the thing, I have nothing bad to say about Swingin' Door Exchange. Part of me doesn't even want to write a review because I kind of want to keep this place to myself!
This is a good old fashioned Milwaukee bar found in the heart of Milwaukee. You walk in and there's dim lighting and you feel like you stumbled into someone's living room or basement bar. I wish there was a bit more of a lobby or entrance way, but that's about my only complaint.
They have a wide range of beers available and make great cocktails as well. They have a couple fantastic beer specials (3 beers/$5 anyone?) that you won't break the bank on. They also partially divided the space so the restaurant area is separated from the bar area if that's not really your scene.
The burger I had was a steal for the price. Large, cooked perfectly, and 100% customizable. Also, I'm not sure what seasonings they put on their fries but I kind of want to marry them.
If you're look for a bar that makes you miss your hometown bar while you're in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, get over to Swingin' Door Exchange. But maybe lie to your friends about how good it is. ;)

Visiting from Metro Detroit. This place was exactly what I would expect from a pub. Beer was good. Food was excellent. Best burger I've had for as long as I can remember. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Had the fish fry perch. Pretty good. Busy on a Friday night. Not much seating, so expect a wait.

I brought my son there for a birthday lunch. Mel was our server. The food was crazy delicious, the margaritas equally as good, and the service was AMAZING! Thank you!

Fell in love with the Swingin' Door during a trip to Milwaukee and ended up eating here for almost every meal. Great casual bar with exceptional food. Must eats: home-made chips, the beet salad(best I've ever had, if you don't like beets you will after this) the carrots, ahi-tuna (sushi grade) was exceptional, not to mention BRUNCH and the soups, chili - everything home-made and tasty, including desserts Met the owner/chef and wife -they are running a great place that you must visit!
Melissa our server was fantastic and suggested some great dishes we had to try! We will have to road trip back to Milwaukee just to eat here again soon.

It's seriously good bar type food clearly made with love and the weekend beer deal is the best in Milwaukee. Staff is great too.
Again and again just top notch in all respects.

The Swingin Door is hands down my favorite restaurant in downtown Milwaukee. Staff is always friendly and you'll never be disappointed with a meal.

The ribs were tasty and fell off the bone but unfortunately a bit cold. The burger sliders were also good but not great. The portion size of the fries for 3$ was ridiculously small.

GO FOR THE VERMOUTH CARROTS... everything else is great too...but the carrots are just something else!!! You will not believe carrots can taste this good! Owner was super nice as well, good service too...what more you need?

Food and service was excellent. We came out to Milwaukee for our Anniversary. Restaurant was close to where we were staying. I would definitely go back and try more of what they had to offer.

Stopped in for lunch and it was great. Wife and I got different chicken sandwiches and they were delicious. There homemade chips are the best as well.

Great food, including lunch and dinner specials, reserved tables or eating at the bar. Solid drink selection and inventive bartenders. Vintage atmosphere with sports on several TVs. Don't forget your Shake Of The Day!

The food was very good but the service needs improvement! We arrived at the restaurant at 2pm for lunch. It took the staff 20 minutes to clean an empty dirty table and the food took about 45 minutes to arrive after placing our order. Unfortunate since the food was very tasty. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone with a tight schedule. Our waitor was apologetic about the wait which helped a bit.

This is a hidden gem of Milwaukee. I've been traveling to the city for 9 years, and discovered The Door about 7 years ago. Now, I hardly eat dinner anywhere else while I'm in town.
The daily specials are amazing, and the sides put it over the top. Vermouth Carrots are to die for, and when I make beets at home, they are modeled after the version from The Door.
Try the ribs, tuna, Ruben, burger, meatloaf, etc. I have yet to be disappointed by the food, the prices, or the service.

The food is just wonderful 😊 I'm so grateful we found this place …
