The restaurant was nice and clean including the bathroom. The customer service needs improvement. The waiter set us immediately. Took 5 minutes to place the order. The waiter needs to know the items on the menu. Never tell a customer, they don't know ask another coworker. The food was served on paper plate. Along with plastic ware🍽🍴. Food was ok. The server didn't bring us our bill. I went to the counter to get the bill. Overall it was a nice place.

My father launched his book release event here and it was such a lovely venue! Holds 50 people comfortably. It was many of our first time and we all vowed to be back! The ambiance inside is warm and welcoming and i found out it's black owned! The Ethiopian coffee is some of the best I've ever had and I was even able to purchase freshly ground beans!!! Will for sure be back!

The food was great! I had the salmon croquettes, that were very favorable and not fishy, the grits were deliciously creamy, eggs were cooked as ordered, and melt in your mouth homemade biscuit.

Owner (Sam) and staff were very nice and accommodating. Atmosphere was welcoming and low key. Good selection of coffee that’s roasted on site. Look forward to going back, especially if I need a good place to chat with a friend. Wish I would have taken a picture of the food, but didn’t think of it until my plate was clean. Enjoyed a great veggie omelette, whole wheat toast and hash browns. Large red-eye coffee in a nice tall mug.

Love love love the atmosphere, the service and the food. And that's an understatement. The coffee takes a little longer than usual to serve because the beans are roasted to order. As I was waiting, I realized I have NEVER had freshly roasted coffee before. It makes a difference. Trust me, this review is not doing Sam's Place justice. Nor is the 5 measly stars I gave it. Definitely a must visit.

I've been wanting to try this place but wasn't sure if children were allowed so we did a pick up order instead. The food was amazing!! If you like your food seasoned then you need to try this place. My husband ordered the catfish and that came with rice, eggs, and a hashbrown. I don't eat fish at all but was pleasantly surprised with their's. It wasn't over powered with a fish taste and the seasonings were on point. The veggie and meat omelet came packed with item's and every bite was mouth watering. They put plenty of cheese and it's inside the omelet like it should be. If you love biscuits I highly recommend ordering a side of them. Honestly they were the best biscuits I've ever tasted. The waffle was amazing and my girl's ate it without syrup it was so tasty. Hands down this is the best place we've ate at since being here and will be back!!

Look at this gorgeous cafe mocha with almond milk! It was delicious. Everything was good. I got the Sam’s breakfast sampler. The people are the best part though, it didn’t feel like anyone was there because it’s a place to work. They are family and you are welcome. Glad to support a black owned local business. I am coming back for the jazz.

Sam’s Place Jazz Cafe is a great place for food and coffee in a restaurant that has a great community vibe. It is a classy cafe in a urban neighborhood. The food is very good and the coffee is high end. Sam roasts the beans on site. The service can be a bit laid back, so this may not be place if you in a rush. Take your time and enjoy a classic community experience.

Today was a first time visit and I'll for sure be back. The servers and cook were very attentive and thoughtful. My cappuccino and egg and cheese panini with hashbrowns were served quickly and were hot, delicious and satisfying. The hashbrowns weren't homemade but had been deep fried perfecty using good tasting oil. The classic bebop jazz playing and wall art enhanced the experience. It's a classy place that even uses red cloth napkins. If you're concerned about Covid-19 and the flu you'll appreciate the fancy combo hand sanitizer and temperature taker all are required to use upon entering the cafe. The sanitizer was thankfully unscented and not at all sticky. I think they even sanitize the menus after each use.

I had the Sam's Catfish with Grits and a pancake. The catfish was seasoned perfectly. The food was great! The atmosphere was wonderful. The customer service was good. I will definitely be back.

Biggest Problem - README.md The biggest problem i have with the place is that there are no seat-belts on the chairs. Seriously, there is nothing else bad can be said. Especially once you've visited more than a one times. Everytime i time i try a drink, a meal, and or an appetizer, without fail, i just about fall out my seat. Hence the need i have for seatbelts. And everyone is so kind. And the setting is jaw-dropping beautiful. And oh goodness, the music. So yeah, that good. Deserves ten stars but they only get five here so i needed at least one complaint and all's i got is the lack of seat-belts. So if you have a problem staying in your seat, bring a seat belt or some thing like that. And try the croquettes. Seriously good gear... b 2022/10/31 - Keeps getting better, real.

Great atmosphere. Probably nice when there is live music. Would not go back for breakfast. All of our orders were mixed up. Eggs runny, items plated incorrectly. Not sure if it was the kitchen or order taker. It was our first time. Not crowded, not busy.

October2021...The food was really good and the place looks really nice. They just need a little more help. But since the pandemic, no one's really trying to get out there and work! We ate brunch which was delicious but we have to try breakfast!! 4 stars because the food was good but it took a long time. Came back again 7/16/22 and the food was a little salty. They never brought my egg and when they remembered, I was done eating...really? Go ahead and take those off my bill...back to Mi cafe Su cafe!! 😑 Down to 3 stars!

Wow! A phenomenal gem for the area. I popped by for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and the food was great, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was welcoming. This is definitely a place I plan on visiting again.

Warm greetings on a cold morning. Jade was managing and kept all the guests enjoying the cuisine and the ambience. Her staff was smiling and attentive. Beautiful art on the walls. Tastefully designed and decorated. Jazz music fills the aural tastes, just loud enough. We had breakfasts including the meat omelet, salmon coquette, triple stroke classic egg breakfast. Best in MKE. Side dishes were biscuits, grits, pancakes. So good. We will be back real soon and for dinner and live jazz, with Sam keeping the drum set hot and cool. Parking is just to the north on its own lot.

It's a new Black owned place with ambitions to create an atmosphere of jazz and dine. It's part coffee shop, restaurant, chill place for folks of all ages. The coffee was really good. I enjoyed every drop. I had the catfish which was fantastic. I would definitely recommend the catfish. Service is a bit slow but I think they are just getting started and I was informed one of the two cooks was out for the day. I think this place has potential and I look forward to supporting this new business and trying out it's fish fry on Fridays.

Awesome menu for soul food breakfast classics, however the service was a bit slow, and because of this there were a few mix ups on the orders. The coffee is superb! The food is good too. I recommend salmon crockets with grits and eggs scram soft (or however you like). The environment is awesome.

So much potential! Charming restaurant but a slightly underwhelming 1st experience considering it wasn't crowded on a Friday afternoon. Slow service but the concept and menu can't be denied for a return visit. Was expecting home made hashbrowns but they were still tasty as well as the eggs and coffee. Will definitely try to catch the live music and fish next time.

A beautiful coffee shop/cafe . My dining experience was definitely not a 10 but a 100. The bathrooms super clean. The food was excellent. Decor is lovely. I will post other dishes as I return to Sam's Place. You make an effort to visit Sam's Place. You won't be disappointed.

The food was amazing but the service was horrible. Service: We wait 25 mins for someone to take our order. When he finally came to the table he told us that we couldn't order everything at once that we has to order drinks and then he would take our order. The whole table was served before me. It took any extra 15 mins for my food to come out. Food: The rice was plain but everything was amazing. Seeing how my food took so long to come out I got a chance to try a little bit of everyone's food. Grits were the best I have ever had. Chicken breading was perfect. The catfish was a little salty but otherwise delicious. Waffle were a bit on the small side but full of flavor. The fruit was fresh. The food would be the only reason I go back. Atmosphere: Nice, clean and friendly.

Food was awesome....great flavor piping hot. Biggest issue was service. Got our coffee like 40 minutes later. Took almost an hour for food. No one came to our table to check on us or offer additional help. I had to go up to the counter to ask for to go tray and bill because we sat and waited for over 30 minutes. We got there at 8am didn't leave until 10 30.

Awesome place some food! I enjoyed the chicken gumbo soup and salad! Both were scrumptious! Being from New Orleans I know gumbo, now this one was a little different with the chicken but very tasty and seasoned very well. Of course when the band kicked in it was on music conversation friends in the house! Great way to spend early evening with no drama! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Went there on Tuesday. Best tacos EVER. My sister and I had a great time. The staff is nice as well. My only concern is the wait time. I think more help is needed but I still think it is the BEST THING to come to Milwaukee in a very long time. Will definitely return. By Erma Russell

I am generously giving this place 3 stars. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere is really cool, and I love the idea of a daily live jazz café. This place has the possibility of becoming something amazing; however, I believe that the owners were a bit too anxious to open before thoroughly training their staff and setting standard procedures in place. Although, they were very friendly, I felt as if I was watching an ant hill with no queen. There were quite a few workers there, and a lot seemed to be going on, but nothing was getting done. Upon walking in, we weren't certain if we should find a table, ask for a table, or order at the counter to get our food and then sit down. We walked up to the counter, and asked if we should sit or order at the window. The clerk asked us if we were there to dine in, to which we replied, yes, and he told us to pick a table between two tables, which we did. We waited for 9 minutes before a waiter came table with menus. 6 minutes later, another server came with glasses and water and asked for our drink selections. My boyfriend ordered hot black tea. Another 10 minutes went by, and another server realized we had not ordered yet, and took our order. Another 5 minutes and the 2nd server asked what kind of tea my boyfriend wanted: green or black. The first clerk who "seated" us called me up to the counter and asked what kind of sauce I wanted with my Panini. (Sam’s Slam | $7.95 turkey and ham with provolone, tomato and basil) My options were BBQ, Teriyaki, or Honey Mustard. I was confused as none of those seemed quite right with the type of panini I ordered. I asked for Teriyaki on the side, which did NOT compliment the sandwich, as I had already expected. Our orders finally arrived after "almost" another 15 minutes, as did my boyfriends tea (with an apology that the tea was late). As a former hospital dietician that supervised a large hospital with a popular café, inpatient kitchen and catering, I am cemented that Phase Oil should NEVER replace butter. I suggest the same for this café. My boyfriend's eggs were glazed with it, his grits were swimming in it (Grits are never cooked in butter, but offered as a side to the consumer). It was rather gross. My panini was really good, except that it was missing the tomato and basil and a bit greasy on the outside. The chips were like the generic product you can purchase, 2 bags per box, but they were still okay. The prices were really great and refreshing. I would try this place again in the far future if it's still open. I believe it has amazing potential after more training, standard procedures and some recipe substitutions are in place.
