Reviews of Mekong Cafe
They've turned into a grocery store. They still obviously make food but now most of their business is takeout. They do have a couple tables you can eat at though. We ordered food and then ate it in the Cafe. Really great quality. The curry egg rolls were solid and the beef pho was the real deal. I will definitely be back for takeout or to grab some items from the grocery store.
They do dinners and catering. I'm considering them for an event and wanted to give them a try before the same. They did forget my vigor juice and offered to refund the same.
We ordered the pud see ewe, sticky rice, the curry egg rolls and the Sai-oua banh mi and the sweet potato fries.
Our order was ready on time and the food was delicious. This place came recommended and I will continue to support them (because again...delicious).
Great food. Started ordering here when Covid started, and it's been a good addition to many of the great local places. They have a really unique selection of food, and there's still so much to try because I've found so many favourites. The garlic stir fry is a new one for sure! The only downside is sometimes the spice levels can vary a lot, but I'm prolly just ordering something that's supposed to be spicier than fried rice! Just take it low with new items, and you'll find what you like.
We love ordering pickup here. Most of the time it's done within the minute range they tell us. :) The Mekong chicken, Panang curry, wonton soup, and spring rolls are all favorites. Oh! Can't forget the purple sticky rice pudding. With mango on top. 🤩 …
I had a Coconut Pineapple Shake, veggie eggrolls & Pud Kee Mow
The shake was delicious. Perfect thickness. Tasty.
Eggrolls filled to perfection. Crisp. Great dipping sauce. I love a great eggroll
Pud kee mow. The noodles were great. The sauce was light yet very flavorful. Not too much. Enough to coat the noodles and meat. You may need extra if you are a sauce lover. The meal was delicious. I would definitely go back
There is also a market when you walk in. Lots of authentic items and some fresh and frozen produce. Great gem.
Total Gem in East Tosa! I've been wanting to try it forever and finally got to last night. Two of my daughters and I tried:
Tom Kha soup - outstanding! We tried with chicken and veggie and both were amazingly flavorful
Panang Curry - so good! Creamy and flavorful and slightly sweet so kids liked it too.
Pud See Ew - I’ve never had this before and it was so good! Absolutely loved the homemade fresh noodles and so did my girls
Green Curry - loved this so much! Lots of flavor, good depth
Appetizer sampler - this was for the kids and they loved it. Spring rolls were super generous. Came with 3 sauces.
Boba fruits- girls loved
It's a very warm and friendly cafe with a neat Asian grocery in the center. Parking was easy on the side street.
Can't wait to go back and try the Banh-Mis more noodle dishes and Laotian food.
Amazing food. All the spice you could want.
The spring rolls are incredible. I could eat them every day.
I almost always get the green curry. My friend got the chicken dish and it was delicious.
Also a very nice Asian specialty market. Great prices in a lot of ingredients that you can’t find other places.
Evidently due to the dread Labor Shortage it is takeout only but you can eat your take out there in a lovely little windowed corner. The food is freaking fantastic. I have to have it spicy which evidently produces the Lisa Simpson "I can see through time" effect on others. But they make it mild for the rest of you. The soups and curries are extra especially to be recommended. My favorite is the green. Also a bit of a SE Asian grocery store. Lovely people.
This restaurant is seriously the best customer service I’ve ever had. The cashiers are incredibly sweet and the food is phenomenal. We had a mix up in an order and asked for a switch out and they delivered it to us!! Next time I come in I’m gonna give an enormous tip. They’re seriously the best.
Great food! I've never been disappointed. The crab Rangoon is the best I've ever had. There is also a nice grocery area for some specialty items that are harder to find
Their pud Thai is to die for. The sirracha crab crangoons are the absolute best ever! We tried the curry egg rolls and they are a new favorite as well. Staff is so nice and helpful! Can’t wait to try the rest of their menu.
The food was delicious, but the customer service requires A LOT of improvement.
I ordered the basil tilapia and received the ginger tilapia instead. The ginger tilapia was still quite delightful, just not what I'd originally ordered. The strawberry and mango fruit bubble teas were good too.
The star was definitely the banh mí burger! I opted for the vegetarian version and they didn't disappoint. A beyond meat patty with hummus, instead of patê and all of the delicious mouth watering toppings. Definitely worth going back for!
Stopped by to pickup dinner tonight and ordered a whole mix of dishes (including desserts that are not in photo).
Food was ok/ on the bland side/not truly authentic from my view...not as flavorful and multi dimensional in flavor profiles as the Laotian food I'm used to. Service was bad / front counter person could use customer service 101. Vientiane Noodle Shop and Sweet Basil still ranks at the top of my list for the area.
Dishes I ordered: pud kee mow, pud thai, shaken beef, bang bang banh mi, jeow bong, soup nor mai, soup pak, nam kow (nam pork sausage), Laotian beef meatballs, larb ped, papaya salad (lao style), khanom Chan, kanom nab, banh cuon, nam van, and boba shake (watermelon/honeydew).
The food is awesome, i had the beef pho and a banh mi sandwich..delicious.
Staff is friendly..its also a small store and deli in the back
So many great dishes, so fresh, at great prices too! The worst part is making a decision.
Their shop carries an awesome array of hard-to-find asian culinary, from dried mushrooms to frozen fish, sauces to banana leaves, all extremely well priced.
SOOOOOO GOOD!!!! I absolutely love it here. My grandmother and I got the #8 (henry sandwich) and a small side fried rice and it was absolutely delicious. The inside of the store is nice and cozy and the people there are so welcoming and nice. Please go there I love them!!!
Absolutely amazing chow! Found looking on Google maps for a restaurant near my airbnb. Whadda lucky score!!!
It's a little Asian grocery store that sells authentic Laotian food to go. Very friendly helpful guy at the register and a huge menu including the Laotian version of bahn mie. They are also huge and delicious n come on the tastiest baguettes. A single sandwich filled me up for lunch and I'm a little pig.
We also got larb and garlic stir fry for supper. Both are huge and will probably make left overs.
Will return again tomorrow - the highest of recommendations!!
Hint- do not be afraid to order spicy...we got medium and needed more heat.
FANTASTIC food in an adorable restaurant. We had the pud thai, pho, and chicken satay, all were delicious. Excellent service and staff, with a great atmosphere. They have a spice scale so you can customize your food.
Love it. Burger was juicy. Good combination with the sauces.
Favorite Thai food in the area! I can't stop ordering the Veggie Lover's khao jee pâté and the massaman curry with tofu 🤤
Wanted to try their Boba tea. They have two different types, one being powder and one being fresh fruit, different prices, and they do not ask you which you would like, they go for the more expensive of the two.
I got the fresh fruit and it was great. Very happy with the tea, didn’t love the Customer Service or the unnecessary eye rolling.
I can’t speak highly enough of Mekong. They have been one of my favorite places to get food from for years now. Delivery is always quick, and has been very considerate to being contact free for me since the pandemic began. Ordering online is super easy. and most of all the food is always phenomenal!
I hadn't been here for years because I moved far enough away. I was in the area so I stopped for lunch. I was disappointed that there's only a small place to dine in now, but who can blame a business for doing what they need to do to survive? Luckily the food was just as good as I remember it and made me wish Waukesha had food like this. Had the Panang Curry lunch special. Enough food for two meals and it was amazing. Next time I'll bring a grocery list to go along with my takeout!
EXCELLENT!! Order a much lower spice number than you think you can handle because this food is SPICY!. Been here 3 times, and each time has been excellent.
Excellent filling foods. Service can work on their communication though, otherwise excellent!
Was excited to try this place after seeing their Facebook video. Was disappointed when I actually went. Parking is difficult (street parking only). I went during lunch time to try their buffet. Small food selection.
Khao jee pate #4 Veggie Lovers is the best sandwich I have ever had all time.
Food is yummy and they have a small grocery shop inside. Everyone is super nice.
I hurt my knee this week and ordered delivery directly through Mekong's website, which said the estimated wait time was an hour. I figured I'd hobble downstairs in half an hour to wait at the door. They delivered in 15 minutes and I was still upstairs, but the delivery person knocked and called outside until I was able to make it down (at the same time my housemate got home and was able to take the bag). I am so used to DoorDash leaving bags unattended at the front door, I really appreciated the service to wait till the food was delivered TO someone. And of course the Pud Thai was delicious. Thank you!
I go often for the lunch buffet. Great deal at only $9, and you can try so many delicious items!!!
This place has some Delicious lemongrass ribs and chicken... However they weren't consistent with when they cooked it. I was told ever weekend they would cook it and place it out to buy. They were being inconsistent and eventually stopped cooking it. It was the only reason I was going there, oh and the custard sticky rice. But the food is decent.
Always delicious with a range of choices, including spice levels and vegetarian options. The curry egg rolls are unique and delicious. I always get the pad see ew, which is SO good. They used to have an unbelievably good Thai buffet, but that is sadly gone due to COVID-19. However, they had the genius idea to convert the dining space into an Asian market! I like to show up a little early to my pickup time so I can shop. This is a staple in my take-out rotation!
Customer service has improved, very authentic Vietnamese and Laos food. . .cảm ơn!! My only concern is the spice level -- I keep ordering the papaya salad and I like spicy, but a level 2 seems the same as a 4, since I've ordered both.
This place is amazing! The Tom Ka soup is so delicious, that I ate it with rice and added my own veggies and tofu to make the broth last longer. Their Pud Thai is my favorite! Next time, I'll try their sticky purple rice dessert. It's hard to find purple rice where I'm from.
Their grocery store is great and I was able to find agar agar (great for vegan dishes). They pack a lot of selection in the space they have, and last time I was there I picked up some cinnamon sticks, dried mushrooms, sauces, variety of curry bases (the red curry in a small tub is my favorite), and black rice. They have some fresh veggies, too.
The boba drinks are absolutely delicious!
Great customer service!
Mekong Cafe is truly the best Thai Restaurant in Milwaukee. I have eaten Thai in Florida, California, Washington, D.C., Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana, and will put Mekong's Thai Curry dishes against any others in the world. They are that tasty, reasonably price, and the restaurant has such a phenomenal staff. As a vegetarian of over 23 years, I have never felt so comfortable to walk into a restaurant and ask them to prepare food that meets my dietary needs as I have been able to do here, since I first started coming here back in 2014 as a weekly regular. When I introduced my husband to this place, he also became hooked. He is a meat-eater and loves his steak. The Mekong Steak Hot Sizzling Plate is his favorite with his Thai Iced Tea. We adore sharing a Hot Pot of Tom Kha Veggie or Tofu Soup as an appetizer. Even though we no longer live in town, when we come to visit, Mekong is an absolute necessity in our cuisine pleasure. Thanks for always being excellent quality in portion, taste, price, and service. We will always come back for more.
Great market, not a lot of supplies but enough to make a great dinner. The restaurant in the back has amazing food!
Take out. Bubble tea. Shopping. Ramen. Ban mi. Bul dak book um= heaven
They never disappoint. The food is delicious, but expect to wait. Ordered food online and went to pick it up, it was an additional 20 minutes. Knowing that I'll just show up later next time. I will definitely be going back. The yellow curry was fantastic, the pho was delicious, the Bành Mì was tasty and the fried spring rolls were stuffed. Love the food. I plan on shopping in the market as well next time.
We LOVE Mekong! We've been going for years and the food is always delicious. We have tried other restaurants with similar menus, but we always come back to Mekong. It's our favorite!!! Their market is really expanding and I've enjoyed having the market to try new things.
We have been coming here for years and I like to say that my family grew up on many of the dishes we enjoyed at Mekong Cafe. Red curry, chicken for protein, heat level 4 is our favorite. Lots of freshly steamed sticky rice and a cold drink to tame a fiery tongue completes a fond meal.
The staff is courteous and attentive. Having relatives who immigrated from Asia, and graciously being offered more food than we could possibly eat on many family occasions, I can say that Mekong Cafe brings back the memory of family, laughter and good times.
More than anything, what we eat grounds us and reminds us of where we came from and who we are. Mekong Cafe helps us to remember good times, absent friends and family.
To Mekong Cafe, thank you for serving and feeding us. It is important for you to know your value to our family and the community.
Maybe the best thai in the city. Fantastic service as well even with carry out. Can't recommend this place enough.
Lovely, lovely bahn mi made to order. Very good bread and the fillings were balanced with each other and with the bread.
There were lots of interesting things, like 5 homemade sauces, house made pork jerky, some steamed rice desserts and pickled veggies that, if I'd had a way to keep cool until I got home, I'd have gladly gotten to try. They looked very good.
Food is in the back of a small food market. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Next time I am in MKE, definitely going back!
Top notch take out! Best pho in town
Update:
I'm revising my review after speaking with the manager. She was very helpful and understanding to help resolve our issue.
We have subsequently ordered from there again, and the order was hot, fallacious, and the egg rolls we're delicious!
Thank you again.

This may have been a singular event, but called ahead with my order an hour before going to pick it up, and it wasn't ready. No one in the waiting area would even acknowledge any of the customers to answer questions until they randomly called out a name. The person next to me said he was waiting for almost 2 hours. At that point I tried to cancel my order, but no one would acknowledge my existence for me to do that.
The food portion size was good, but food was nothing remarkable. In addition to the wait, I was irked that they charged us for vegetables that we didn't want and said there was no way to remove it from the bill. Normally I wouldn't care but it was a substantial up-charge at about an additional 33% ($3 additional per $12 entree). We llet it slide then when we get home the "extra vegetables" included one mushroom one piece of zucchini and one piece of of broccoli, and NOTHING ELSE which clearly it was not worth. Total scam!
It's unfortunate since I have heard good reviews about this place, but this is my first and only experience with them and likely will never go back.
What flavors, spices and variety! I had the buffet and was impressed. If you are looking for bold flavor, adventure and something different I would recommend trying Mekong. The sesame and red curry chicken are amazing. The mushroom soup has kick and the crispy sweet fried rice was very unique. It is a nice relaxing atmosphere and the service is very good.
WOW WOW WOW OH AND YUM! 10000000% recommended this place, not only can you find some goods in the store but their food is to die for me. Flavorful, filling and out of this world.
Good buffet. Thia tea and lychee lemonade were good. Tom kha, noodles and grilled pork were my favorite.
I seriously love this place. Hands-down the best curry I have ever had in my life. I’ve taken several people here as well and they have all been equally as impressed. If you would like Thai or Laotian foods you will definitely not be disappointed. The sticky rice with mango is an interesting but delicious dessert as well. Their lunch buffet lets me try a lot of things that I normally probably would not order for a reasonable price. I can’t say enough good things.
Some of the best, authentic Asian cuisine in Milwaukee. We've been coming here for years.
Some of our favorites: wonton soup, Bankok noodles, pineapple fried rice, Tom Kha soup, Mekong sesame chicken, Pud Kee Mow, and Thai tea (hot, or iced with milk and boba). YUM
They tend to be heavy handed with the spice. I only ever order level 1 and it's plenty spicy for my taste.
Food is made fresh, would recommend ordering at least 30 mins ahead of time if you need pick up. We ordered a few dishes to sample and everything tasted great!
This place has some of the best Thai food you'll ever eat. Plus they've changed into little grocery store with lots of items to purchase that are unique and from outside the country so it's really cool experience going to this location.
Mekong is the best Asian food in Milwaukee. I moved away and came back for the day and made sure to stop and do a to go order before I left. Nam Kow, Fresh Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew... all incredible. I miss being blocks away! Keep this place alive.
This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants!! The food is incredible!
I am gluten free and the menu is very clearly labeled. When I order from here I usually order enough for several days. My regular order is Chicken Pho, Pud Thai, side of fried rice & side of steamed veggies. The food is always very fresh. The Chicken Pho has helped me through many a cold, it's really the perfect cure!
Great food, but as others have noted, the service isn’t.
Placed order at 4:30pm for a 5:10pm pickup.
Arrived at 5:05, called them at 5:10 to let them know I was outside.
By 5:30 nobody had come out with my food, so I called again and was told ‘five minutes’.
10 minutes later I received my food, which was 30 minutes after I was supposed to.
5-10 min late is no big deal. 30 minutes for curbside pickup is not acceptable. Won’t be going back.
I love this restaurant. Authentic food. Great prices. Wonderful service. I ensure I eat here each time I visit Milwaukee. Huge selection. Dishes you wouldn't find anywhere else. I have not tried the buffet but it looks good.
I’ve been coming to this place ever since it opened up. I totally love the food because it’s pretty close to authentic. It’s also one of the very few Asian restaurants that serve sticky rice. I would totally give Mekong Cafe 5Stars, but the service here have always been consistently below average. Every time I’ve come here, I’d always have to ask for more water. Even if we are the only customers in the place, we’d always have to wait forever for our food. 30 minutes or more for the papaya salad is just unacceptable. When the food does finally arrives of, it’s always very good and spicy!
The servers are always so welcoming and kind! Christian was our server last and we truly loved having him as our server! i ordered the crowd favourite- Mekong Chicken and a pork Pad Thai. the food was delicious and came out very quickly. Overall, loved the experience!
LOVE the food. Buffet varies in food choices daily, making it a bit of a surprise each time. At first I was disappointed some of my favorite dishes were not at the buffet, but the new choices were just as delicious. The environment is clean and relaxing. Quick place to go on a lunch break, or you can stay longer and chill with friends.
I love their Saturday lunch buffet! Delicious and VERY spicy papaya salad, and they always have Tom Yum soup.
I'm also find of the mussels and I must mention their spring rolls. You might have low expectations for buffet spring rolls, because most are tiny and not very good. mekong's are big AND delicious!
Also excellent crab rangoons in the buffet.
I wish I could give a half star, because they should get 4.5. I'd give five stars but the desserts have not been to my liking. Although they do have sticky rice on the dessert bar, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. A bit not-too-sticky.
That said, I keep going back, and you should go try it too!
I've always had amazing experiences dining in.
Tonight was my first time making a take out order. Upon getting home, I realized that my sweet and sour sauce and chili oil we not in my bag.
In the future I will make she to check my bags prior to leaving. Food was great. Just not the same without the condiments.
Absolutely one of the best panang curries I've ever had. I have been to many Thai restaurants from coast to coast and was blown away by Mekong. Even better, is that if you like it thai hot they will actually deliver on the heat if you ask. I'll be coming back any time I need my Thai fix.
Large menu selection. Food is delicious and customer service is great. Check it out if you're in the area 🙂 …
My wife and I have been eating at the Mekong Cafe since it's opened. It's always been a favorite place for us to eat. I was inspired to write a review after my wife and I had carry out from there last night. I've been to Thailand a couple times and am able to speak to it's authenticity. I've eaten at all of the Thai places around the city and Mekong Cafe has the flavors down pat. I love spice that makes me sweat and this place delivers! I love the Larb, papaya salad, beef salad, and any of the traditional Thai curry offerings. I'm glad that Mekong Cafe is so close to us. This place will always be on our short list for dining options. Keep the good food coming!
Looking for authentic Asian cuisine??? Mekong Cafe is the place!!! I've tried various Asian Restaurants and Mekong Cafe ranks as one of my top five!! Lunch buffet stations are very clean and food is fresh and hot!!! And I must also mention that their prices are reasonable for lunch, dinner or simply appetizers! But trust me, you're not going to want to stop after the appetizers! Staff is friendly, I've never had a problem with them getting my order correct, and I am a frequent patron. Favorite dish???? NO such thing as I will devour anything on their menu!! Whenever I want a home cooked meal away from home, I go to Mekong Cafe. I LOVE their food dishes and the ambience. Mekong Cafe will definitely continue to have my business!!!! You must try their food at least once, and I guarantee you will return!!! LOVE IT!!!!
Killer Thai food. Best I have EVER had in the city. I would give this three stars for service ONLY because the waitstaff were so severely understaffed today. Waitress was extremely helpful, gave excellent recommendations and as I said — you will adore the food, hence the five stars. But the wait was long and bussing/service staff were not well coordinated with one waitress who was trying to serve everyone. I will DEFINITELY be back, but I don’t recommend this place if you are under time constraints. Guests, go when you can enjoy at your leisure. Management, do your staff a favor and have more waiters on hand!! This is a real gem otherwise; I cannot wait to eat my leftovers AND go back. ;)
This spot tends to be hit and miss. The buffet was smaller than it has been in the past and the food looked to be very American Chinese food with a few touches of Thai and Lao.
I skipped the buffet and ordered off the lunch menu. I ordered the Pud Thai and it was much sweeter and greasier than I expected from a Pad Thai. Also ordered, at our table was the shrimp and thai basil curry dish. Overall it was flavorful and tasty, but the shrimp tasted like it was already cooked and then recooked in the dish. Tasted a bit flat and chewy.
I would stop in again for the buffet, but maybe check it out first and make sure that there good looks fresh.
My daughter, a huge connoisseur of crab Rangoon, loved their version. and the plum sauce too. Spring rolls were typical but fresh and rolled expertly. We both had pork-based pho with meat and it was really good. Temp-wise it was kind of hot but could have been hotter. Otherwise, we really liked our food. And our two servers were cordial and offered top-notch service. We'll be back to explore more of their diverse menu...
I've never had a bad experience here and I crave their food regularly. It's just ridiculously delicious! Grandma Chanta's sausage has to be my favorite thing, but honestly it's hard to pick just one. Highly recommend!!!!
My husband and I decided to try Mekong Cafe and have no regrets. The food was amazing, everything had a wonderful flavor and the portions were so large there is no way one person could eat all of it, we took a lot of food home. Jenny was our server and she was great. She gave us a lot of info about the food, made suggestions and was right about everything. She is very friendly and has a nice personality. Our food was served quickly, it was hot and tasted great. The manager came over and asked how everything was and talked with us for awhile, he was very personable. We look forward to going back, we especially want to try the lunch buffet. Mekong Cafe was a good choice.
Seriously, you can't go wrong coming here. I have yet to try anything on their menu that wasn't delicious, but of particular note: the Musseman curry. I know I'm mangling the spelling on that, but whatever.
But the curry: I like my curry. All varieties from all regions. They're all a really, really good time. But this stuff... It exists on a whole other level. Not once in a while, on a good day. Every. Single. Time. It's the joy of any day I have some. Spice levels from 1 to 4 in half point increments. I love my spicy food, but a 2.5 is just about perfect. Warm, satisfying, without losing any of the subtlety.
The people are awesome too, but this review is already too long.
When it's good, it's amazing, when it's mediocre, it's terribly mediocre .
I feel like there are two separate minds in the kitchen, sometimes the curry is the perfect consistency and flavorful, sometimes it's basically water. Same with the sesame chicken , sometimes it's crisp fresh and delicious, sometimes it's chewy and lukewarm .
Also, the waitstaff could be faster. If you get there and there's more than two tables already there, you're gonna be waiting a while to order.
If you're willing to look away from how terrible the service is, how slow the kitchen is. The food is pretty good. First time we ordered they didnt give us rice. Tonight when we ordered they said it would be here at 645. Waited 30 mins after and called, worried my food would show up cold. They told me it wouldn't be cold, as it hasn't even finished cooking. When the food did arrive at 745, It was cold.
This is a favorite for my husband and I! We are locals to the area and always get so excited when we go. The food is always fresh and so tasty!!! Service is really great too! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!!
We order from the takeout menu from time to time. One of our favorite places definitely with the value of their lunch menu and bold flavors!
It was ok but there was a musty funky odor inside that was an immediate turn off. The buffet was nothing special. One of our group got the spring roll appetizer which was a pleasant surprise. Doubt I'll go back again as there are better options around town.
It's my second time here at Mekong Cafe. I had to share a review. The dining area is very nice and the staff have been very accommodating! They were very helpful at answering any questions about the menu and knowledgeable about dietary restrictions. The food, the food is fantastic! I felt the spice level scale was accurate. Hope you enjoy!
Do not walk, run to this restaurant! The food is amazing. Everything is fresh-made and delicious. Our servers were super attentive and appetizers were appropriately spaced from the main course. I will be going back again and again.
Would recommend to anyone looking for Thai food in the area. The restaurant stikes a good balance for value without sacrificing on quality or taste. Spice levels from 0-4 are a bit on the mild side so don't be timid when ordering. If you like spicy food you can comfortably order a 4.
Definitely my favorite best Thai restaurant in town. All of their rice noodle dishes are amazing. Lots of other interesting dishes from Laotian & Vietnamese cuisine as well. The juice bar with Bobba Teas are also very refreshing. The staff are always friendly too.
I would definitely come back. Coming from this background the food was very tasty and service was superb. We got here and to our suprise they had a buffet, we were expecting to order from the menu. Of course we took the buffet, pretty good variety of food.
The buffet is well priced considering they serve jumbo shrimp and have some steak there. The dessert is really good. The chocolate cake wasn't crazy sweet and was nicely cut
I'm a very picky, non-adventurous eater who always asks a ton of questions about various dishes; all the servers were very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful with my questions. We felt very welcome and had a very pleasant dining experience. This is our new go-to restaurant for Thai food!
I lived on the East Side for years and have yet to find a better option for southeast Asian food than Mekong. It’s reliably delicious every time. My favorites are all of the curries, grandma Chanta’s special, and the nam kow. Just simply amazing!
We had barely finished our appetizers and had already decided that this is the best Asian cuisine restaurant we have ever been to! The Laotian beef jerky is AMAZING, as were the noodle and rice dishes. Will be back soon!
Ok this is my first visit and we were so impressed. The girls all went zero stars for heat. Mine was 1.5 I'll be upping it to 3 stars on the next visit. The staff was over the top service oriented. Will be back for sure. It all has so much more flavor then Chinese.
Great service! Most likely you'll be served by Buton, who has become a fast friend. The lunch buffet is very reasonable. My wife and I LOVE the Tom Kha soup. This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Washington Heights neighborhood.
Really yummy food with a good variety. My only issue is that every time I order take out (once a month the past 4 months) the rice is very dry and tastes like it's been microwaved. The rest of the food is really great, the rice is just not great.
This place has excellent food. It's always good. With that said it is frustrating when they constantly make orders incorrectly. On 3 occasions I have ordered take out only to get home and find that there is no rice or that I have something that I did not order.
I'll be more careful to double check my takeout order from them in the future. It would just be nice if they cared enough to get it right the first time.
On one occasion dining i was also brought the incorrect entree. While they did take it back and re make it I sat there for the next fifteen minutes or so while the rest of our dinner party started eating.
Please try just a little harder Mekong
Four star rating is for the justly popular weekday lunch brunch, my only experience here, and was brought up a star by the finest sweet and sour dish (chicken) I've had since an etherial version in a Hong Kong private club's dining room thirty years ago! Other items were serviceable, though neither the fresh nor the fried spring (?) rolls deserve some Yelp reviewer's overblown praise, even when just out of the kitchen. Some fresh lettuce leaves and mint would be nice.
Food is 5 stars, take out times are 1 star. Been going for years and the number of times they fulfill the time commitment they tell you when ordering I can count on one hand. Add at least 20-30 minutes to the quoted time on to any take out order. I almost wish the food was terrible here so I could stop putting myself through this time and again.
Get the Mekong Chicken! I live in Chicago and still come here for that chicken when I'm in town. I've been a fan of this place since it opened. Panang and red curry, papaya salad are tasty too! Highly recommend. Also, delicious Thai iced tea!
WOW. For my money best buffet lunch in town. Consistently great variety of really fresh, tasty dishes on a super clean line. Nice peaceful atmosphere with friendly and attentive service.
Best Asian cuisine around! Authentic delicious food! I frequent this restaurant, & I've ALWAYS had a good experience. & Their buffet is very good! There's always different entrees at the buffet to try.
Food was good. 40min wait for takeout at 440p on a Friday :( Trainee taking orders charged me too much, but it was fixed by credit. Got home and had extra been sprouts, not pea pods as requested... Will go again but check my order before I pay/leave.
I absolutely love the food here. I highly recommend it.
Great place for takeout, delivery, and eating in. Very large menu gives you great Vietnamese, Laotian, and Thai options. Some delicious original dishes as well, including the Mekong Ginger Noodles. Want dessert? Try the mango sticky rice!
Not enough people are talking about this place. Their menu is recently updated and full of interesting and delicious flavors. My fiancé has come here for years and never had a bad meal. Stop thinking about it and just come here!
Clean place. Friendly staff. Went for the buffet, wasn't anything special. Minimal variety. Sriracha chicken was the best entree. Maybe should just order off the menu.
When I recieved my food was it was hot and cold and chicken was dried out. Customer service with the waiter was good. But wouldnt recommend coming here. I had high expectations for this place because the fact I'm lao which I'm disappointed in the food. Over all the only thing was great was the waiter himself.
This is my go-to for Thai food in Milwaukee. Invariably I recommend Mekong Cafe to anyone who's looking for a place to to have a good meal. The parking situation is a challenge, there's no getting around the fact that you'll be parking a block or two away, but the food is worth that minor annoyance.
Service was slow, even though there was only one other table in use when we came in. There was about a 15 minute wait between being seated and our drink orders being taken. The place had a bit of an odd smell, like old spices and old cooking oil. Not terrible, but noticeable. I always order a pad Thai when I go to a SouthEast Asian restaurant for the first time to see how it stacks up to the Thai I had in Phuket. This one, sadly, was all too similar to most Midwestern American pad Thai... Too much sauce and oil and not enough fresh sprouts, egg, and peanut. Not bad tasting, but just lacking. My fellow diners and I liked our appetizers and "bobba tea" though. Nice ambience and friendly staff too.
Amazing food! A great blend of Thai, Laotian & Vietnamese dishes that is not your typical Asian fare. Good service and they will explain the menu if you have questions.
Good food at decent prices. Not the fanciest of places, but still very comfortable with a wide variety of dishes to try and a bustling take out business. My server wasn't super knowledgeable about Thai food but was very friendly.
Awesome home made food! If you like Laos, Thai, Hmong or Viet style cooking it is great. My food was hot which is what I ordered, my wife's was "just right" =)
the home made sausage (grandma's meal) was unique and tasty.
The food was really good. I didn't want to stop eating the basil and chicken curry!
My BIG complaint was that the to go containers were styrofoam with a hot meal added to it. As you can imagine, the food was so hot, that a hole was melted through and the containers and they all were warped. Styrofoam has been removed from most places because of the poison it leaches into the food and hot drinks. Even most Chinese restaurants use paper products.
Unfortunately, I would avoid ordering to go until they change their containers.
Another favorite of Bob and I. I like to sit on the floor in the back room. They have fresh squeezed juices, I know that because I am the self proclaimed fresh squeeze juice snob!
I love their desserts and always get a few packages of the lotus cookies (fyi they are gluten free)
I work here washing dishes & I love it my job is a beautiful food experience to eat in , carry out, or delivery. So Don't what you haven't tried, & don't be cheap cause it isn't a cheap place to eat. Love Sister Dickerson.
Nicest owners, hard working people. Love the new store and still get the food to go! It’s the best :)
Mekong has been redecorated and has a fresh new ambiance. And my particular favorites at Mekong, I haven't been able to find at other Thai places around town: the Nam Kow lettuce wraps which has great flavor and these lovely crunchy fried bits of rice, and the Ginger Noodle, which has plenty of veggies paired with a thick udon-style noodle in a peanut-ginger sauce. The menu has so much variety; someday I'll bypass my favorites and try something new.
Really good Thai, Laotian and Vietnamese food. Spice level 3 (out of 4) is very spicy. 2 was perfect. Larb is very deliciously seasoned. The soups were great.
Quiet, Peaceful, laid back atmosphere. Food was ok. It was my first time trying their cuisine.
Had their lunch buffet. It was pretty average Chinese food, filling but not that much choice and none of it was extraordinary. There were some unattended children messing around with the food too, owners should’ve been keeping a better eye out.
Great food, very nice staff. Great selection of Boba tea & pre-prepared hot food. Try the matcha, taro & Thai tea bars, it's cake, it's delicious!
We would like to thank everyone who supported us throughout the years without your support we as a small bussiness would not have made it this far, yours truly Mekong Cafe. IM SO EXCITED FOR THEIR REMODEL!!! The food is always delicious and has so much variety. I could eat something new every day and it would take forever but I would love it
The staff is friendly and quick.
The portion sizes are big, which is a problem cause the food tastes real good.
The just updated the inside so it looks much better than I did before.
This place is amazing. The food is amazing even the options is smaller compared to other buffets but the quality of their food is delicious. Loved this place. Will definitely coming back
Been ordering from here for a while. It is even better food since they closed the dinning in. Best Larb and Tom Kha in Milwaukee. Bahn Mi ain't to shabby either. Keep it up Mekong
My past two dining experiences here has been good so far. Friendly and fast service. Interior decor has a nice touch. Food is fair but not bad. Also tried the pho here, wasnt as good as I had hope.
I always stop when I'm in area. I love their Fresh Spring Rolls and Pud Thai! Fyi, take out only.
Delicious food and perfect for take-out.
One issue: they have gotten take-out orders wrong a number of times and their solution is to deliver the right dish without a discount and taking the wrong one back. Not ideal.
This place was great. A lot of food for your money and it tasted great. Also nice kind ppl and up kept inside. Easy going and just all around good. I highly recommend it
Easily the best S.E. Asian restaurant in the city. Food is delicious, and they make it authentically spicy. Err on the low star side if you don't have a tolerance for spice. I LOVE it!
I usually visit for the lunch buffet which is always features different food. Wait staff is prompt and courteous. The bubble tea served here is more of a fruit smoothie. The value is outstanding.
My first choice for Thai and Laotian food in Milwaukee. Within the last couple of months they updated their interior and now they have a wonderful ambience to match their delicious food. My favorites include, Bun Cuon, sesame chicken, larb, and mussuman curry.
Lunch buffet is second to none. Always a varied variety incl. vegan dishes, soups & desserts. Volcano chicken from menu is to die for !
Mekong the best place for me when I'm hungry. It is my favorite restaurant. The workers the staff are really welcoming and friendly. The people make a restaurant in my opinion. And Mekong has it five stars and more give it a try delicious food. 😀😀😃😀😀 …
Staff was so friendly. No matter how long is the waiting time is it's totally worth it in the end my ultimate favorite is the authentic style larb with sticky rice.
Absolutely the best Laotian/Vietnamese/Thai food I've ever eaten. Gourmet from start to finish. Reasonable prices, and the staff is very helpful. Great service, quiet comfortable atmosphere. Great!
Depending on who's cooking, you can get some really spicy food here. A good combo is the Holy Basil fried rice and an order of Masaman Curry and mix them together.
Yum yum yummy I absolutely love the lunchtime buffet for 10 bucks. Lots of interesting choices and plenty of options that were gluten free.
The lunch buffet is very good. The place is spacious and clean. I esp love their fried banana. Food is combination of Thai and Laotian. ..
This is such a great restaurant, wonderful food fresh food. Amazing option and flavors, and the staff and feel of the place was friendly and relaxing. Can't wait to go back.
The lunch buffet is generally excellent. If you order off the menu the Mussamun curry is a true epicurean delight. Go enjoy!
Have made our visits here near weekly since discovering it. The pho is amazing. Haven't tried all the appetizers but they have all been very tasty.
Food is amazing, although they could probably use more staffing. The poor waitress we had seemed to be servicing the entire room and she couldn't keep up.
Mild is still pretty spicy.
Dinner service was slow-ish but gave us plenty of time to talk.
Great varied menu. Hard to choose.
Will nom again.
Stopped in for the weekday lunch buffet. Food was fresh and refilled frequently. Staff was accommodating and helpful with any questions. Yum!!
Asked if they had a certain item, they didn't have it but were willing to order it for me specifically got to love that!!!
I've hadthe Mussamun, Green, and Yellow Curry here, plus the Pud Prik Sod. I thought the Green was best, but also liked the Pud Prik Sod. large Qty of food, not the very best food, but close. A very solid 4, if you gave it a 5, I wouldn't argue with you.
Great food, a variety of different pan-asian options at a relatively decent price. Their lunch buffet is just an added bonus.
It has been a while since I was here... they have remodeled, but that is the only thing that has changed. Their service is still impeccable and their food is still delicious. I will be going back again very soon.
Green curry and papaya salad are SO good. I’m craving it now!
Forgot to mention not to put fish sauce in the Thai Red Curry I ordered and I smelled even after coming home!
Good south east Asian cuisine at a fair price! Delicious food and friendly staff
The fried rice and crab ragoon was fantastic! Prices are reasonable for serving sizes. I highly recommend! Great food!
Nice atmosphere, nice staff and yummy food. I go for the pho because it is so delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
First visit for buffet. Seems like they put out dinner entree quality food for the buffet. Staff was nice, food was really good, price was great.
Nice customer service and variety really recommend going there nice owners and workers.
Best pho
The Friday lunch buffet was absolutely fantastic! Place was clean and had a nice atmosphere. I will definitely go back!
Massive menu, great food, fair prices - you'll be taking home half your entree too. Awesome chili sauce if you're a spice fan.
Besides the WONDERFUL and very attentive (but not too attentive) wait staff, the food was PHENOMENAL. I am not even a big fan of asain, etc. cuisine and I was in awe. I also got the plum wine and YUM! 🍷🍜 …
Read the review & I decided to try this place. I've been craving for some ethnic flavors & decided to be adventurous. The beef phoo was flavorful, spicy & tsasty. Worth the visit & will do it again.
If you like spicy it's very good but you can have it without spice but it's still good and I'm sick of pizza
I tried the curry egg rolls yesterday and I can't stop thinking about them. They are my new favorite thing to eat.
This is one of my favorite lunch buffets. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. Did I mention that the food is amazing?
Food and service are great. My complaint is the soda fountain gives flat soda. Also, floors have been sticky on several occasions.
Our go to restaurant for Southeast Asian cuisine. A large menu with Vietnamese, Laotian, Thai and Hmong dishes. Good lunch buffet.
One of the best Asain experiences I e ever had the pleasure to try. They have great service even better food and the best crab ragoons I've ever had.
We enjoy the variety of items that are freshly cooked. What a bargain for all you want to eat! We visit once a week. ALOHA Uncles.
The pho was amazing. The papaya salad was great as well. I would go back... even through they were out of sticky rice.
one of my milwaukee favorite. best lunch special with quality food for the low!
First time there...it was awesome! Everything was fresh. For a buffet that's crucial! You should try the vigor juice!
Food was great! Service was a bit slow for it not being very busy. Definitely going back for the amazing food!
Definitely a good place to be. They had a good variety of non veg dishes for the Friday lunch buffet moreover it was tasty.
The food was delicious! My family tried 4 different dishes and each one exceeded our expectations.
Best lunch buffet in the city!!
Great food, many choices. The spice levels are superb! The mecow (spelling?)and papaya salad is outstanding!
Awesome food! Most definitely the best Asian restruant I’ve been to in the area.
I have ordered from this place at least 20 times and have never had bad food. They are my go to Monday night restaurant when I'm stuck at work late.
Newly expanded menu, very friendly staff, don't be afraid to try new dishes, remember to specify your heat and spice level.
It's a great Weeknd lunch buffet today visit our Facebook page ! It's from 11am - 2:30PM
ONLY this saterday Sunday !! Great food for great people
Possibly the best restaurant in Milwaukee. I've tried about half of their menu over the years, and have not found anything that I would not strongly recommend. Try this place!!!
The food is very tasty with a nice presentation and friendly service. Be prepared to wait during busy times.
Excellent lunch buffet with plenty of options with a authentic taste of quality! Very fair price for a lunch buffet!
Love this lunch buffet & in the evening, we enjoy ordering tasty curry dishes off of the menu.
Taste has changed quiet a bit from past ..Buffet is good with varieties of options for both Veg and Non veg options !
Excellent food. Ate their lunch buffet, a great way to try different foods.
The buffet is better on the weekends (more food options). Nonetheless, good food all week.
The food was good. Not too pricey. Dislike that there's no parking lot.
Typicaly typical. Ignore owner's arrogance... they do "mean" well. Food wasn't as bad as their service would lead you to anticipate.
Service was nice but food was slow to come out. Food was hot, but pork was over cooked. Everything else was good though.
The takeout food was good. Big servings. Try the fried bananas for a treat - but plan to share!
Reliable and good
The fried rice is very well cooked. Does not need additional soy sauce
Best Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups I've ever had.
My favorite restaurant and 2nd home ha. Great food, friendly staff, and a chill, relaxing atmosphere. :)

Been going here since it opened, and by far my favorite Thai in Milwaukee. Do NOT miss the Ban Xeo
Service can be a little slow, but the food is always phenomenal.
Delicious, plus they offer a range of spiciness for each dish.
Service overall was a bit on the slower side but, aside from that it was an amazing experience all around.

I love this place.
Love it!!!!
Ordered online and was given s pick up time 30 minutes later. I arrived for pickup and was told my sandwiches were being made. I could see the sandwich maker on the phone for several minutes while I was waiting. Eight minutes after my arrival, she came out to tell me that they were out of one of the main ingredients for one of the sandwiches. It took another 10 to 12 minutes to get the order.
The sandwiches were just ok. They didn't have nearly as many of the vegetables that I have come to expect on a bahn mi.
I also ordered 2 orders of fries. One order was about half the size of the other. Generally disappointed.
Great food, order was ready on time, service was good!
