I consider myself a burger connoisseur. If you you have read my other reviews (my Shake Shack review). I laid out my criteria for a great burger. Mazos hits all the marks. This is no skimpy burger. When you leave out of Mazos you will have to loosen that top pants button. And if you order the double cheeseburger with the works, ask for a to go box. Most people can't eat the double in one sit down. The wait staff are great. Good conversation, plus they keep your drink filled. At Mazos they ground their own meat. That's a fact that they are proud of. You can actually taste the freshness. My wife and l ordered a shake, french fries, double cheeseburger and a soup for about $ 25.00 bucks. They gave us our shake in the container they mixed it in. We thought that was a good touch. The seating is a little tight, if its just two of you I suggest you eat at the bar. Around the restaurant they have pictures of singers from the Sinatra era. My wife and I made a game of it, see who could name all of them. We had a great dinning experience. If you love burgers make Mazos one of your stops.

Great food. Wonderful atmosphere. We each had the Cheeseburger Combo. Burgers were great, buns really made the taste! Fries were average. Chocolate Malt didn't have a lot of flavor. Its always nice to visit one of the classics, but there are better choices in the area.

This is one of *the* spots to get a burger in Milwaukee. It's small, cozy. It's been around for awhile and all the employees there are friendly. You pick from a variety of burgers or sandwiches and two sides, it's as simple as that. They don't ask you how you want it done and I'm okay with that because, I've been to places where they have and it never comes up the way you want. Because of the smaller dining area, you may have to wait but, they do carry out and flip tables pretty quick. Keep going, y'all! I love you!

Classic since 1934! Great old time sit down counter burger joint with awesome FRESH burgers. They grind the meat every morning and put the burger on a delicious toasted brioche bun. Served with nice crisped home fries and homemade soup of choice. This is a must stop and eat lunch place. Walls are decorated with old time pics of yesteryear.

The burger is so full of flavor. The wait is ridiculous. I would expect at least 30min and up to an hour but it is seriously worth it for a burger like that. The bacon is done perfectly crispy and so are the fries. Simple menu and just a burger and fry joint. Has the old fashion feel. Soups are pretty good but the burgers are the main attraction.

Laid back retro atmosphere, awesome burgers. Id been meaning to come here for years. I always heard they have the best burgers in Milwaukee. As a big fan of Kopps, I admit I went in with a certain amount of bias and skepticism. But today I tell you that if Mazos doesn't have a better burger than Kopps, then they are certainly neck and neck. Will definitely be back.

This place deserves more than 5 stars. The burgers are very large but the freshly ground burger daily is the key. Oh, and don't get me started on the buttery buns. If you are in town, please make a trip to this place, you will not regret. It is small inside, so you may have to wait. BUT trust me, it's worth it.

This place has been around since 1934. The burgers here are excellent you must try it once and you'll be back. Call ahead or come in and order to go. Inside dinning aloud with 6ft distance. I just stop in for a burger and two side $9. MUST TRY SOON.

You have to be patient for fresh cooked food in a place that's very popular and very busy. EVERYTHING is fresh and delicious. One of the best hamburgers I've ever had. I highly recommend it. But you have to be patient don't come here looking for instant gratification or if you're in a hurry. Good food takes time.

I adore Mazo’s. I love burgers and Mazo’s has been consistently top tier. The restaurant is comfortable, the shakes are delicious. Stopped into Mazos for a quick lunch bite and had a very good experience. The waitress was very quick to take our order and the food came out very fast. Every bite was savory and scrumptious morsel and everything was excellent. The only downside is that we didn't have room to try a shake after the burgers and that you need to have cash to tip your server.

Summary: Really quality burger with decent fries, but what appears to be hit or miss service. My wife and I decided to grab lunch here on one of the days of our vacation. One of the things I liked was the obvious history that the place has. I got the double cheeseburger which was excellent, but huge. I would recommend getting the single unless you're really hungry. The fries were good, but nothing fancy. Just your standard crinkle cut. The homemade chicken noodle soup was good also, but a little mushy. My wife got the grilled cheese which was also huge. Quite the bargain. I ordered our food to go, and I didn't have any issues. However, I heard one of the servers make two separate mistakes with other orders while I waited. Seemed like it could be an issue if you're in a hurry.

I've been going to Mazos for over a decade now. They are the most consistent out of all of the burger joints in Milwaukee County. Their milk shakes and malts are amazing! Their burgers are ALWAYS fresh and delicious. The ambiance is that of a welcoming small town restaurant! The staff are always friendly and accommodating. Mazos is truly a hidden gem in the chaos of South 27th street. It will truly be worth you time to stop in and see for yourself. As an added bonus... there is additional parking in the rear of the restaurant. You're welcome! ;)

The burger were excellent and the service was top notch. Everything (including the toppings) were fresh from the farm. I felt bad when I left, though. I didn't know that you can only leave your tip in cash. Next time I'm there to eat, I will double the tip!

I don't think I have been to Mazo's since I was about 8 or 9 (I'm 36 now). A lot has changed but the burgers are still out of this world. Juicy, fresh never frozen beefy goodness! Also, the homemade soups are to die for. I had the chicken noodle and it was delicious.

What a gem! The ambience, the food, the PRICES! $5.35 for a cheeseburger with two sides. Unbelievable! And they grind the beef daily - something you can taste in the outstanding burgers. We went after reading the New York Times glowing review and I'm so glad we did. Great shakes, reminiscent of Mullen's Dairy in Watertown. And we just loved the dining room. Great place to bring even slightly naughty children. We will be back again and again. I don't get the previous reviewer's issue. They have giant bottles of fresh ketchup and mustard on the table. And the burgers are so good, you won't need much, or any if you're a true burger connoisseur. Coffee creamers that are kept cold. Nice touch. I hope this place makes it well past 100 years. very nice people. food is not what i would call enjoyable. burger was very dry and fries were like cheap frozen french fries. i would rather get food from a wendys. my malt also had ice chunks in it the entire time.

Hands down, my favorite burger in Milwaukee. Don't expect anything fancy from Mazo's. No eclectic decor. No fine China or silverware. No host to show you to your seat. This is an absolute throwback to a simpler, better time. I'm 31, so I wasn't even alive for those better times I speak of, but I know the feeling when I get it. Small dining area, maybe a dozen or so tables, and a counter with about 10 stools at it. Just go in and grab your seat. The prices, in my opinion, can't be beat. A burger meal will set you back about 8 bucks, and it comes with two hearty sides. That 8 bucks gets you more food than you should feel comfortable eating! Regardless of price, the glistening, juicy patty that is present to you hugged by a bun is out of this world. They grind and hand form all their patties every day, and that makes all the difference. The patties are not pretty, hell, they're not even symmetrical! But that's what makes it amazing! The lumpy, cracked patty has parts that saw plenty of contact with the griddle and become golden and crisp, while other parts don't touch the surface of the griddle at all, leaving the meat to stew in its own delectable juices. Do not pass up this gem!!!!

Consistently great fried hamburgers. If you've been to Leon's you were across the street from this place and never knew it. In business since 1935 and on 27th St for 50 years. Two sides with the combo, dinner for 2 at about $20, more if you have room for dessert. If you HAVE room there is a custard stand across the street, previously mentioned. Enjoy.

Stopped by on a Tuesday night for dinner while visiting family at St. Lukes. GREAT food! Our party had a Patty Melt and Cheeseburger, both of which were very good. The Patty Melt was grilled good and crispy, which is often rare among restaurants. Cheeseburger was delicious. Sides were good as well. Highly recommend.

Best burgers in Milwaukee. Butter burgers here. And the malted in that stainless steel cup! Soup, fries...Park out back - the aroma outside tells you already - it's the best burger in town. I like to order a simple honest burger without hiding it in all manner of ingredients - to experience what it's really about. Only the best burger can stand up to this. Mazo's burgers make believers out of out-of-towners.

Amazosing (amazing) burgers for a great price! My family has been going there for years and everything has always been exceptional. They've always had friendly and hard-working ladies working there until recently. The young girls were slow with no sense of urgency, and also not very friendly. Hard to beat a classic diner with such rich history. Solid diner burger with plenty of food for the price. Just be advised that they only take cash tips, they cannot add on to a credit card, so be sure to bring cash to tip the servers!!

A wonderful, old-school place for a great burger. It's nothing fancy-- a smallish, windowless burger diner with very little kerb appeal--but it's one of the best burger joints in Milwaukee. Burgers are the main thing to get here, though there are a few other items/sandwiches to choose from. All burgers come with two sides. I recently had the chili (for an upcharge): it was on the tomatoey side and a little sweet, but the juicy mix of beef chunks and kidney beans hit the spot. The other side, American fries (sauteed/grilled potato slices with onion) were fine. The real attraction, the burger, was great: pinkish in the middle and flavorful; toasted bun; classic American cheese; grilled onions. The coffee was fine--not terrible like at most diners, and not fantastic like at higher-end eateries. The service was friendly and efficient.

As many reviewers have written in the past,Milwaukee is blessed with many great burger joints.Oscars and Sobelmans come to mind,and lets not forget about the heart attack burger at Cafe Lulu.Mazos belongs in that group.I just had the supreme burger with barley soup and slaw. Double thumbs up.The prices are right and the interior glorIously retro.Its a tad close seating wise so does not really lend itself to groups.Next time I will try to sit next to the Sinatra painting.

Mazos makes some of the best hamburgers in Milwaukee. You don’t have to believe me, City Search and the Milwaukee Journal both rated it as the best in the city. The food is fresh; this is not frozen meat that has been sitting around. The hamburgers are juicy and flavorful. In addition to this, they have homemade soup (very good). Mazos has been around more than 75 years. They moved to the present location in 1948. Hanging on the walls are newspapers, drawings, etc. from bygone days. The staff is very friendly and will make the burgers to your request. (They have other sandwiches also but the hamburgers are the heart of the operation. There is parking in the rear of the restaurant and the place is handicap accessible. Two things to note: on weekdays, the restaurant closes by 7 pm and - it is easiest to access the restaurant if you are traveling north on 27th. The restaurant is just short of the 27th and Oklahoma intersection which (with the huge Aurora hospital) can be very busy. It is worth the trip.

If your looking for a "two handed, juicy, thick hamburger, made from scratch....This classic, hole in the wall getaway, back to the 1930's...It's well worth the struggle to find a parking spot....and the pricing is well below what you would expect for quality and quantities of food and service.... I'm looking forward to trying other menu items when I get a chance to visit again .... just south of St. Lukes Hospital....quaint but holsum...its the food not the atmosphere in this case...And I will definitely be back....don't forget to thumbs up if you like the review
