This small, fast-casual restaurant with a seemingly simple concept has HUGE flavor. My boyfriend and I both ordered a Chicago Style Char Dog, which the owner/chef Andy highly recommended to us. Mine was the vegetarian version, which uses Field Roast brand vegan meats, and because the Chicago dogs are smaller, I ordered a "double dog" meaning two dogs in one bun. I also opted in for the brioche bun rather than the vegan bun, which is smaller. I'm glad I was hungry because that was the longest hot dog bun I've ever seen. The bun was very tasty and fresh! And the combination of flavors and textures elevated hot dog eating to a level I didn't expect. The hot dog was charred to perfection, and I loved allll the toppings. My boyfriend and I also shared the seasoned fries, which were some of the tastiest I've ever had! Not too salty. The seasoning had a nice paprika-ish flavor, and with the medium size we still had quite a bit leftover. We also shared a medium bowl of vegan chili, which is some of the best I've had! It's made with crumbled vegan meat and beans, so the meaty texture was really nice. I think I'd add some hot sauce to give it some spice next time, which is to say that I will definitely be back! The menu is VERY big, so don't get too overwhelmed. If Andy is there, he will happily give you suggestions! The vegan/vegetarian options are nearly equal to the meat ones, which is very nice to see. Gluten free buns available too! I also really suggest you eat in to taste how good a fresh dog can taste. Great family owned place. I hope to meet Louie someday. ;)

Went in 5 pm on Friday. Yes there was only one guy taking orders and making food. Yes, it was cold in the place. Yes it took 25 minutes to get 1 burger, 2 Chicago dogs and a large fry. Yes, he forgot the Slurpies. But he came out to ask how the food was and got the Slurpies. But one of the 11 year olds I was with said it was the best burger he ever ate. But the other 11 year old said it was extremely good product. But I think it was one of the best tasting Chicago dogs I've had. So, if you can chill out and relax, you'll be supporting a small business that has alot of potential.

Lived in five states, its not easy to find somewhere like this place. Andy is a professional chef and its just incomparable how he plays with the tastes and material for a unique experience. Their Chicago style hot dogs are delicious, same as their steak sandwiches and burgers. Best burgers with best meat and just about $10. Highly recommend this place!

Great food & Service! I had the Korean Burger and it was amazing. The ingredients were all fresh and the burger 🍔 was so good 🤤. While dining, I had a great conversation with Andy and Rose who run the place. They were very friendly and made me feel welcome. I cannot say enough good things about the people and food here. I'm always on the lookout for Vegan Hot Dogs so we were pleasantly surprised to see Louie's had a great menu of vegan items. The owner is very aware of vegan needs and conscientious enough to ask about preferences even down to the buns. Much appreciated! He gave us some samples of their vegan cheese (it was so good you CANNOT tell it from the real thing) and their chili (made with crumbles and corn, not my taste, a bit too salty and I don't like corn in my chili, but still it was better than OK). The seasoned fries were so good, I didn't need to put any ketchup on them to make them better. We ordered the carrot dog and a Chicago style vegan dog. A+++ Better than Dogg Haus' used to be before they switched to a worse brand of veggie dog, so that's saying a lot because Dogg Haus' used to be EXCELLENT on the veggie dog scale and now they're sub-par. So food-wise, this place is a winner for vegans. However, one snag you should be aware of that they haven't fixed yet is online ordering. We ordered using the app and it told us our wait would be 45 minutes. We took a chance they'd have it done early so we drove right over. They never received the order to begin with. Or it didn't print out, so they were unaware it had come in. Luckily for us, there were no other customers, so they began our order immediately. While we waited, we chatted with the owner (and his wife) and he gave us a load of information about the place and its menu. Very nice, friendly guy. Talk to him if you get the chance and get the low-down on his experience as a restaurateur and vegan/vegetarian-consciousness. He mentioned his food is best eaten asap, but when we got home it was still warm and super delicious. It might taste better had we eaten it right after it was served, but I can't imagine how since it was really, really dang good. I definitely want to go back again and again and try every single vegan thing on the menu.

What Louie's does they absolutely do so well and they are ambitious about what is under their umbrella as well! I had to ask the owner if they were a single proud Milwaukee small-business location or a national chain because they just really are tightly battened down! The food! The food, the food, the food. Excellently made and expertly-salted crinkle cut fries are absolutely to die for! Their burger was inspired and fascinating to eat, really engaging and so delicious! Their Dogs are just off the charts and excellently executed. The Chicago dog is absolutely what one can expect from any well respected Windy City corner cart and I have to imagine that their Italian Beef is just as up-to-snuff. I am excited to go back and find out!! Their marketing and branding is excellently done all over the location, and it really makes one feel like all details have been seen to. The entire location isn't overly spacious but every inch has been used to its fullest extent.

The food was an amazing experience, coupled with the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant. The owners and staff treat you like family as soon as you open the door. Louie's Char Dogs is home to the BEST burgers and dogs in the downtown and east side area of Milwaukee. Well there are burger places on the south side that will give Louie’s a run for their money…. but nothing in the downtown or Eastside area can come close to being as great tasting as Louie’s. The manager/owners are fantastic and enjoyable to talk to. I will be a loyal fan for many years to come. Be sure to check them out. Hint: try the steakhouse burger it is the best burger I had ever tasted.

First time at Louie's. The fries were excellent and the burger would have been, too, if I had made sure to ask for something past rare. My four stars instead of five were because it was unbelievably slow. It was the lunch hour and I was the only person there the entire time. There were no pickups during that time, either. I ate inside because it was basically a private dining experience. I suspect this is because they are still very new and maybe the word isn't out yet.

This was our first experience here, and we ordered the vegan chili dog combo and vegan stadium char dog. It was tasty, and I appreciated that they not only had vegan options, but also cooked and prepared them in a seperate area. Despite what seemed like only one employee working, the gentleman offered great customer service and was very kind. I was also impressed by how spotlessly clean the bathroom was; that's how you know they take pride in their establishment.

This place was pretty interesting. It’s ran by a husband and wife. The place is named after one of their doggies and even the picture looks like their doggie thats so adorable. It’s one of the neat things about the place and their story. Me and my friend went last night around 10pm and ordered and we sat down it took a little while for the food to be made. It was pretty close to closing when we received our food so we asked for to go boxes and I said it says you guys close at 11. The wife who works the registers asked for the time and it was 10:56 and she told us to go ahead and enjoy our food cause they have to clean anyways. Her husband also sat right there in the front as well and asked us how was our food and everything was I said I felt everything could have been cooked longer. He told me that the burgers are done medium well (I just assumed they were well done they never asked and I never said anything) But the bun was toasted really good my bottom bun was soggy but that probably came from how I ordered it. My friend didn’t really like how her chilli dog came out but they took care of that they offered her another option and they made it for her. They said they want their customers to leave out happy. The wife also brought out some samples of the mac and cheese and a homemade sauce and my friend liked it she mixed the mac with the sauce and I tried the caramelized onions they were pretty good. But the cheese curds were really good they tasted like garlic cheese bread they just needed to be fried harder (I think they are baked) as well as the onion rings. Overall the food and the customer service was good I see alot of potential for this place especially being on the east side. Will I return? Yes I would like to try some of the deserts and their birria sandwich.

I got the Jalapeño Loco burger and I absolutely loved it. I’m so glad this place is here. Definitely where I’ll be going on cheat days. The Louie sauce they use was so so so good. They should definitely sell it in bottles at random. The burger itself was cooked to perfection. I literally ate everything. I also love that they have Raspberry iced tea. It’s my favorite flavor of iced tea. I definitely plan on coming back again sometime.

Came here yesterday, literally the only place we found to eat that was opened late. While me & 2 friends were hungry. I got the Louie Crazy Burger, it was very delicious. But the bun was soggy, but it’s understandable because it is a crazy burger over all. I enjoyed the medium rare patty, as I do love medium rare steak. The seasoning was amazing. Fries were really crispy, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I also got the chili hot dog, the chili was salty to my tasting. Everyone has different taste. Don’t get me wrong. But I still enjoyed it either way. The workers were very friendly & talkative. Food was cooked & done fast too!

I often ride past, but last night I decided to stop to try a char dog (hotdog). It was just a late nite craving i really didn’t set my expectations high enough, But needless to say THIS PLACE WAS GREAT I only wanted a char dog I ended up with the dog, plus cheese curds and fries, an Italian beef with cheese sauce and mild gardenia. EVERYTHING was TOP Quality you can literally taste the difference. On top of that a very friendly and accommodating staff made us feel right at home. Try it you will not be disappointed …. im going back today for a butter burger 😄

We came in pretty late so it wasn't too busy, but we got to chat with the Chef/Owner himself and learn about the high quality foods. First of all lemme just tell you how delicious those fries are! Perfectly crispy and seasoned to perfection. I had the Korean burger. It was fantastic! So many different flavors going on and blending perfectly. Since we got to chat a bit, we were offered the fancy reserved table in the front for 2 with some very comfortable chairs. Here's the thing. This is good food, not fast food. Everything is made to order so you'll have at least a 15-20 minute wait. It's worth it.

Louie's is a new place on Farwell, right by North Ave. The area has had some new eateries and things opening, and it seems like it's making that part of the east side exciting again. I saw all the good reviews and checked it out around noon. I found free parking easily. The restaurant was colorful, clean, and cozy. Turns out, one of the managers was there and she was very friendly, helpful, and a joy to talk with as I looked through the menu. The menu at Louie's is large; there are so many options from hot dogs & burgers to catfish, vegan dishes, & desserts. It all looked great but I got a Korean BBQ burger and it was bursting with flavor. I got a dog to go, too but took a bite before packing it up! I liked the food, the service, the cute decor. I hope to bring my sister's kids soon.

I have been around the world and am very impressed with the atmosphere, service, and especially the food at Louie’s Char Dogs & Butter Burgers on Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I came by myself on my first visit and had a wonderful butter burger and delicious fries. The burger was better than Solly’s, and the fries were tender yet crisp. I had another burger made to go so I could have one at home later after a night out. The second time I visited I came with my wife, who is quite picky. I had The Italian beef, which was the best I ever had. No kidding! My wife had a Polish with the works. I wasn’t surprised when she how much she enjoyed it. I certainly hope that this store becomes as successful as is deserved. During these difficult times, I am glad to see that this establishment has made its way to the East Side!

If you can exercise a little patience, this is one of the best low key spots in the entire city in terms of quality and taste. Expect to wait 15-30 minutes even in an empty dining room, not all great things come out the moment you pay. Having had at least half a dozen menu items I'm yet to be let down. All the burgers are next level, sandwiches too. You definitely won't leave hungry. Pro tip: if you want to speed things up, just order them as they come and make your own adjustments when it gets to your table. Sometimes new technology at the register slows down the old kitchen pros. Favorites - steak house burger and the NY strip sandwich

My fiancé and I loved the food here. It was a bit of a longer wait, and unfortunately there was only one gentleman working at the time. That being said, he was extremely kind and concerned about how the food was and knew that it was taking a bit longer. Understaffing is hard on everyone, so compassion and understanding are key! my boyfriend tried the jalapeño loco burger and the sonoma dog, and i had the mushroom and swiss burger. all items were great, but what really made this place memorable were the staff. chef andy was so personable, friendly and had some great suggestions. wait was a little long because we did not order ahead, but that was expected since everything is made to order, we didn’t mind. we will definitely be back, and are looking forward to what chef andy and his crew come up with next! 😌

When a the owner of a burger place says his burger will be best burger I've ever had, I think it'll be upper-middle tier quality simply because of their confidence, but it'll be otherwise unremarkable. That was my expectation when I walked in for the first time and asked for a basic butterburger. And then I actually tasted the thing. It was, without exaggeration, the best burger I've ever had. So I went back, and tried their other burgers, one by one, and consistently they're outstanding. In my opinion their Steakhouse burger is one of best burgers money can buy, but the rest are all excellent depending on your mood. Want something dark and savory? Mushroom and Swiss. Classic? Louie's Crazy Burger. Tons of flavors? Korean or Jalapeno. With perfectly made fries each time, you cant go wrong with anything. And I haven't even mentioned the service yet. Friendly, helpful, and honestly committed to making sure you're satisfied, it's the best restaurant staff I've dealt with in the city. They've made the atmosphere a relaxed place to grab a bite after a long day at work, a chill place to chat with friends, and a simple place to stop in and grab a bite before continuing with a busy day. I would highly recommend Louie's Char to anyone and everyone who has taste buds and the capability to enjoy a good meal. 5 Stars, 11/10 would eat again.

The family and I stopped at Louie's for a dinner break. We've never been there before and only found out about the place after doing a Google maps review of places to eat. We were not let down. My wife and daughter got the mushroom and Swiss while I had the porkies bacon burger. Overall, the food was awesome and the portions were just right. We'll definitely be stopping there again for a lunch or dinner break. I'll be looking to try their char hotdogs as they sound delicious.

A wide ranging menu offering made to order food where attention to detail is paramount and the flavor of each item exceeds expectations. To me, this is a premium restaurant that holds itself to a much higher quality and standard than the likes of fast food. There are no menu items sitting out under a heat lamp here. There will be a wait, depending on how much food was ordered; though the short wait is absolutely worth it for the high quality of food you will receive. The atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I was provided a free drink while I waited for my food. The owners themselves were very friendly and will explain all of the items on their menu when inquiry is made. They also offered up free samples of their chili and soup. All I can say is that I have many more menu items to try and not only will I be back repeatedly, but I'll also recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

The first night I went I had the Jalapeño loco burger with cheese curds. My mouth I drooling just thinking about it. The owner came out and talked to me for a few minutes just to make sure I liked it. And I really enjoyed talking to him. He uses fresh and top quality ingredients. I liked it so much I came back the next day and got a butter burger. It was also 10/10. He used 1/3 pound burgers and they do not shrink like most places! Most place I need atleast a half pound because they shrink so much. I also tried a polish sausage the next day. It was also very good. My knowledge of sausages/brats/ hotdogs is limited due to where I live.I never thought I liked sourkrout until I came here. Also has amazing cheese curds. I’m from out of state and just visiting and I’m so glad I found this place. Please come to Missouri!

Y'all, the burger looked like it came straight out of an advertisement. I got a BYOB burger, single patty cooked to medium with ketchup, pepperjack cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle slices, spicy sweet mustard, and made it a combo with a waffle fry upgrade. The patty and onions and fries were absolutely PERFECT, literally the only things I can complain about is that the medium soda was a little bit smaller than what I was expecting, and the wait time - but even then, 45 min on a Saturday evening really isn't that bad. Total was about $14: $9.25 for the burger, $2.99 for a medium combo upgrade, and $1 extra for waffle fries. I texted my boyfriend and told him that next time he's at my house for dinner and neither one of us wants to cook, he's going to try Louie's. And I just remembered that I forgot to tip, I was going to leave cash when I picked up! I got you next time for sure!!!

Stopped in on a whim and had easily a 9 or 10 out of 10 burger, and a 10 out of 10 hot dog! the fries were amazing, the burgers were filling and delicious (especially the jalapeno popper they put on the Jalapeno burger) the kimchi on the Korean burger was sweet and sour in just the right way. The food here is excellent. The meat on my chopped steak sandwich was high quality, tender, and perfectly cooked. It fell apart in my mouth. They slice it thin in house before chopping it up. I know this because the man who prepared my sandwich came to check on the food, and he told me a little bit about it. The people who work here seem to take a lot of pride in the meals they prepare.

Love their food. I go for the Chicago style hot dog and butter burger. That first time I went i tried 2 diffferent hot dogs me and my kids and I had the double butter burger. The burger alone filled me up. Even the hot dog fill you up. You barely will est the fries with the combo. They have great customer service and they give you a welcome to the family on the first visit. Very friendly places for hotdogs and burgers. I highly recommend them. The food is worth the price

We stopped by last night and the owner was absolutely thrilled to have us there, he came out and talked with us for about 45 minutes. Such heartfelt individuals and he was so excited to share alot of what items were on his menu even gave us samples to try and free dessert. He's been a chef for 35 years and brings alot of flavor to his sauces and quick creative ideas to the simple quick food restaurants. Will definitely be back soon. i live in the neighborhood and i eat here quite often, as a treat. they have a wide range on their menu, including street food items such as loaded hot dogs and lots of unexpected unique items. their meats and sausages are custom-made for the restaurant locally, and they have a good spread of vegan options. i believe they make most if not all of their sauces from scratch. jalapeño garlic cream sauce is my favorite. the owners are extremely present and friendly. they're interested in giving you a delicious large meal at a very fair price. i usually stay a while after i'm done eating, for the vibes.

I went in today (literally like 5 mins ago) and was so amazed by the customer service and the kindness of everyone! I am vegan and I feel like I can experiment with foods at a restaurant again, which is a rare occurrence at a lot of hot dog/burger places. They suggested a carrot dog with vegan chili and cheese and I obviously agreed, and it was so good! The experience and excitement alone was 5/5 but the overall satisfaction with my food is also a 5/5. Looking forward to going to this place more often as I live so close to it!!

Stopped in over the weekend for an Italian Beef and I was not disappointed. Great roll, excellent beef, and the hot peppers were superb. But the fries??? Amazing!!! Don't skip the fries!!! When I walked in, I noticed that there was only one man working the entire establishment. His name was Lawrence, and that man is an American hero. From my first steps into this bodacious burger joint, Lawrence made me feel completely at home. From single handedly cooking my entire meal by himself to handling all of the little things needed to keep an establishment such as this running, Lawrence did not back down or falter in his steely resolve to keep Louie’s in tip top shape. I will be returning to try the hot dog next time, and when I do I hope to see Lawrence keeping his ever watchful vigil over the grill. I sincerely hope he is getting compensated properly for his excellent services to his community.

I moved to Milwaukee about a month ago and I was searching for the best burger here. I went to all the staple names; Kopps, Stack'd, Sobelman's, and a few more. They were all good but none of them were a "wow!" burger. I decided to try out Louie's and when I say this burger made me go "wow!" from the first bite I'm not exaggerating! You can taste how fresh the meat is, cooked to a perfect medium, the juices were running and not all dried up. I probably found my favorite burger spot in all of Milwaukee, I will be back!

I ordered the chili mac char dog and the jalapeño cheddar stuffed red peppers today. Both were excellent. I recommend calling and ordering or ordering in person for the next few days. I tried ordering online and it didn't go through. So I had to reorder in person. But the staff was very friendly and understanding. This is their first location, so a few technical glitches are expected. I'll definitely be going back in the future.

He wasn't joking, I did need a fork and knife for the Sonora Char Dog. It and the fries were great. We also got a chicken sandwich, and that was the juiciest grilled chicken sandwich I've ever tried. They have something for everyone char hot dogs, sausages, burgers, sandwiches, fish, shrimp, etc. Vegans and meat eaters can actually enjoy a meal together because they have vegan char dog, a vegan carrot dog, vegan chili and soon vegan burgers! What’s nice is there’s a separate vegan grill for only vegan items.
