If we could give this place a 10 star review, we would. Cannot emphasize enough how incredible this restaurant is. Super clean! Service was impeccable, we are from out of town and felt like we were treated like family. The food and drinks were exceptional, any expectation you have was super exceeded! The kitchen staff really know what they are doing, to the point we felt we needed to tip them as well. We loved this place so much we repeated our visit the next day and still had our expectations exceeded, which is incredibly rare in this day and age of restaurants. We never write reviews because we so rarely have anything nice to say, in this case we can not say enough good things! The only unfortunate thing is that this restaurant is 5 states away from us or else we would without a doubt be regulars! Keep exceeding the standards and providing such a quality restaurant experience to us foodies out here! Thank you for everything! We love Jessica!

Mid day lunch never disappoints. Presentation is excellent....second only to what your palate will be telling you after the first bite. Mediterranean salad with perfectly blackened salmon was terrific. Avocado toast with a fresh fruit bowl had all the colors and flavor needed to make lunch memorable. Great decor and excellent staff....go to Canela, you won't be disappointed.

Met a friend here for breakfast and absolutely loved it. I ordered the Avocado Toast which, although comes with poached eggs, can be made with any style egg you want or no eggs at all. The poached eggs I chose were made absolutely perfectly, and the side bowl of fruit was incredibly fresh and served cold, which I enjoyed. The portions were of good size, and were filling without being overwhelming. The cafe is a pretty, cozy space with lots of light. I love that they offer so many healthy choices. I will definitely be going back.

This is a highly recommended establishment. Not only was the bill for two a little over $30 but the food was filling. Not only filling but delicious in taste. The pancakes took some time to finish but I won that match. I can say that the juices are not free refills. That is a downfall because I like just but it helps me finish my food and only drink one cup. Lol. All in all I enjoyed my time here. Cool music. Nice crowd of people on a Sunday afternoon with friendly staff members. I couldn’t ask for a more pleasant way to start my Sunday off.

Very good! Visiting Milwaukee from Houston. Came in for breakfast. Had the omelette with Egg Whites, fruit and pancakes. All good! Lucas was very friendly and attentive. Place was clean. Prices reasonable. If I had more time I'd come try more things. Would definitely say it's worth a stop!

Canela Cafe was top notch, nothing but a pure class experience. The food/menu is probably the best brunch menu I've ever come across (there's a lot of SW menu inspiration and it's to die for) and you can definitely tell that every single menu item they make is done to perfection. The staff is super friendly and nice and the atmosphere makes you feel extremely comfortable. It's a modern cafe type establishment but you can tell that the lust for classic diner had to have been an inspiration. I'd highly recommend checking this place out, you won't regret it!

Great food and service. The place has very nice bright vibe and is a pleasant place to dine in. All the food I tried was amazing. The coffee was a surprise and amazing, I think it was from Stone creek Coffee! The Chilaquiles is the best I ever had, you can definitely tell the salsa in freshly made. A must get if you're going to visit for the first time. The menu has lots to offer and has something for everyone. Looking forward to visiting again and trying the rest of the menu.

We really enjoyed everything here! The food was fresh, delicious and full of flavor! I got the Mediterranean omelet that had a great amount of feta cheese. The breakfast potatoes were seasoned and crispy! The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. It was nice having a great up of Stonecreek Coffee with the food. Aside from the food, it was so beautiful inside! It was bright and inviting which matched the energy of the servers.

This place is just marvelous, the minute you walking in, you are greeted with a smile and makes you feel welcome. Our server was very friendly and attentive, was on top of our drinks, and condiments for our food. My fiance had the very berry french toast, and I myself had the steak and eggs. She was very pleased with the presentation of the dish, and was extremely content with how delicious her french toast was. The steak and eggs were spot on, the new york cut was cooked to perfection, the breakfast potatoes were seasoned just right, and my side of pancakes were fluffy and very savory. Overall we had one of the best experiences while having breakfast at Canela Cafe, and will definetly come back again

A brand new restaurant on Milwaukee's east side. Absolutely adorable little spot. The decor is a perfect blend of cozy and fresh. The food is incredible, pictured is the Mediterranean omelet and the steak tacos. The fruit bowl was to die for; I don't think I've experienced fruit quite as fresh as this. I normally skip over the melon when I get fruit sides, but here...it was perfectly ripe and satisfying! The omelet had ample feta cheese and tomatoes, and it was incredibly fluffy. I didn't get a chance to photograph the pancakes, but those are fantastic too. The owner is a great guy, and the staff provided friendly, timely service!! All in all, what a great new spot. It's about time we got another bangin' brunch spot around here!! I'm going back this weekend to try some more menu items and snap some pics. :)

Visited Canela for the first time and had an awesome experience. Guillermo our server made great recommendations and we decided to choose the Three Amigos and the Green Chilaquiles. Both arrived promptly, fresh and were absolutely delicious. I would rate ten stars if I could as this was more than breakfast, it was an experience. Thank you Guillermo and Canela Crew! Don’t forget to order a Hawaiian mimosa!

I'm relatively stingy with five-star reviews, but I was impressed with Canela Cafe, so much so that I actually ate there two days in a row while I was in town for a wedding. The first day, I came with a couple of friends just because we were looking for a brunch and the reviews here were solid and the place was close. We ended up quite satisfied with our choice. The service was great, food was awesome (Steak and Eggs was the move), and the atmosphere was solid. Came quick and everything is priced very fairly. The second day, I brought my partner and very much had the same experience, although we ate outside this time. Re-ordered the Steak and Eggs, and that and the service was awesome again. I appreciated the consistency across the two days. Christian and Guillermo were our servers and they were perfect. I also had the pleasure of meeting Ray, the owner, and he was great to chat with and was very happy we were so satisfied. We'll definitely return the next time we're in town.

Great spot for breakfast near UWM campus. They accepted reservations and had space for our larger party of 7 adults and 1 infant. The food was delicious. They had a variety of mimosas; classic, Hawaiian, and tropical. Server was friendly and attentive.

This use to be the old Pancake House location on Milwaukee's East side. Now it's Canela Cafe. The menu was good. There are a lot of items that look like they would be delicious. I had waffles and bacon this trip. The food was good and the bacon tasty. Service at this location was also very nice and fast. I definitely recommend this place for a good breakfast.

I've been here twice this week and have loved the food both times. Lots of gluten free options including GF pancakes, GF waffles, and GF bread. And, there are many mexican-inspired breakfast items that are also GF. The chilaquiles and the breakfast tacos (both with spicy chicken chorizo) were excellent, and so large I had leftovers. My husband (not GF) had the "south of the border" eggs Benedict and he said they were delicious. We substituted fresh fruit for the potatoes and got generous bowls of fresh watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries, grapes AND half of an orange. We'll definitely be coming back!

Great atmosphere. They serve Stone creek Coffee! Had the ShakShuka, French toast, roasted potatoes and turkey sausage pattie. Very tasty and flavorful food. The menu has a variety to offer. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Searching for places to eat in the local area and this place popped up. From the photos, it looked super cozy and looked like it had enough food options for the whole fam. I don’t normally leave reviews, but I feel compelled as the service and food was absolutely exquisite. You guys were super busy, the restaurant was at capacity, and our server, Annuchka was fantastic. I appreciate a server who goes above and beyond, and she handled our table of 4 adults and 4 children with a perfect display of relaxed competence. It’s always a struggle going out to eat as a family because our kids sometimes can be rowdy. Even though one of our kids spilled some of their drink on the table, Annuchka came with a smile on her face, said it was okay, and made us feel comfortable and welcomed, even tho our kids totally spilled some chocolate milk on her. I almost never write restaurant reviews, but we just had to recognize Canela Cafe and Annuchka publicly. She catered to the four children in the group. She was prompt, smart, caring, and knowledgable about the food. I’m a pretty picky person, but Annuchka was super patient with me when offering suggestions off the menu. We ended up getting the Three Amigos, Chicken and Waffles, and some chilaquiles and all the food was sooooo good. The food is mouth watering, and the menu is diverse. I’m glad we popped in for a bite, because the food was delishhhh, and Annuchka, our server, made our whole day. And she just had this friendly demeanor about her that made us all happy. By the end of our dinner, the whole fam said, "She's the best server we've ever had in Milwaukee".

We were looking for a place for breakfast and tried Canela Cafe. We found that this restaurant had no trouble providing great friendly service on the busy weekend day. The large dining area was sectioned to create a more intimate space. We had a booth and a charming server. Our food was delicious and hot. It was a difficult decision to choose which meal I wanted to have since everything was great option. We will definitely come back the next time we're in town.

Delicious! I ordered the berry French toast with bacon and my mom ordered the Americana. Both cooked very well. Seasoning could be a bit stronger (French toast didn't taste like much without the toppings/syrup and my mom's eggs weren't seasoned). The bacon was thick cut and yummy! Good prices for the amount of food and how filling it is.

Came in on a Monday around 1130 and they were mostly full. Service is friendly and prompt. We had the Berry pancakes and the meat lovers bowl. Both delish. I own a restaurant down the street that serves brunch on Sunday and I fully support this spot. This is a welcome and solid addition to MKEs mediocre brunch scene. Huge menu also.

It's a very nice looking restaurant. We had high hopes and were disappointed. Their "classic eggs Benedict" is actually a "Florentine Benedict". The poached eggs were under cooked and the pancakes were overcooked. There was maybe a teaspoon of feta in the omelet. They only refilled my coffee once and never refilled my girlfriend's cup. The waitress pretty much disappeared after we were served. We got the bill and she again disappeared. So I had to pay at the front desk. It's too bad, I've always loved that location.

I've been to every breakfast restaurant in Milwaukee and this is hands down my favorite. Been here several times and always a home run. Can't go wrong with any of the specialty pancakes or french toast. Chicken and waffles are one of my favorite. Portions are HUGE. Great experience everytime I've been here.

Super friendly staff! I've been digging the Belgium waffle with a side of bacon and coffee, but the biscuits and gravy is amazing too. I love the options of chirizo and southern flavors to many of the dishes. Highly recommend for brunch.

We were thrilled to have this excellent addition to the area's breakfast/lunch possibilities. The lobster Benedict and the corned beef hash were scrumptious and plentiful. Service was great and coffee is darn tasty. I could see us making this a regular Sunday morning stop. We suggest you try it. Likely you will agree it's a go-to spot. (By the way, you may notice a few staff from Simple Cafe & Mad Rooster.)

We went on Christmas Eve, we we’re so pleased there was no wait and the staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the burrito. It was absolutely the best breakfast burrito I’ve had in Milwaukee. I loved the salsa verde and roasted jalepeno it came with. My husband ordered the biscuits and eggs, and loved it, especially the chorizo gravy. He ordered the Hawaiian mimosa and I got the tropical mimosa, we liked mine best. Our daughter (not a breakfast person) was excited about the number of choices on the menu and hard a time picking but ultimately ordered the BLT.

Amazing food, wonderful staff, superb service. A majority of the staff are folks from Simple Cafe so it’s obvious why it’s such a great experience. The chunky monkey pancakes are pure art. The quesadilla is as well. Highly recommended but anything will be great!

We often order Canela Cafe for brunch on the weekends (through a 3rd party because of delivery.) We have never been in the establishment. (we have small kids, so dining out can be tough.) I had a small hiccup with our delivery and they exceeded my expectations as to how they handled it. I will say, the food is always hot & fresh when we get it. And tastes great!

I wasn't the only one in my neighborhood who was bummed out by the closing of the Original Pancake House on Downer Ave a few months ago. But talk about a turn of events! The new Canela Cafe, just opened, is terrific. Their update of the interior is bright and inviting. Better yet is the menu, with lots of enticing variety. We need to sample more stuff, but the breakfast quesadilla and corned beef hash we had today were first-rate. Breakfast is looking up on Downer.

We went for Brunch on Saturday and found Canela using Google. What a excellent Cafe! They decor is very appealing, the service was outstanding (Noel is super friendly and a top notch waitress),and the food was FANTASTIC! I highly recommend you experience this dining delight for yourself.

***NO MASKS are worn by staff or patrons. I was literally the only person wearing one. Nice enough setting. It's not as warm and welcoming as the OPH that was previously here but it is clean. Even though it was lunchtime it was not busy at all. Fortunately I had a section essentially to myself and I pulled up my mask when not eating. The server was pleasant and efficient. The food itself was greasy but okay. The menu said the BLT came on toast but it was pretty obliviously grilled.

This cafe is hip, has a great atmosphere and the staff is amazing. The food is traditional with a twist and there has been nothing that I’ve ordered that I haven’t loved. Definitely one of my faves.
