Cute place with fancy sandwiches. I shared the Korean steak and chicken bah mi. Both were tasty!
We also had the pimento cheese with bread. Nice, hardy bread. Great for sharing.

Made reservations for Saturday night. The food was delicious. The menu was pretty simple charcuterie boards and sandwiches. The only thing I did not care for was that the venting seemed a little poor. You could watch everyone working hard to prepare our food which was also fun.

Real taste of Portugal. Thicker cut than traditional Jamon iberico and not too rich like Spanish Jamon. I think this is perfect. White Port tonic is just like in Portugal. Full-body refreshing drink for beautiful days. Love the honey nutty flavor from Port and good bitterness from high quality tonic there were used. Don't forget to try the desserts here. I love blueberries cake.

It’s always amazing! The drinks are on point, we had several cocktails and glasses of wine. We started with a charcuterie board, then did the pretzel, tuna and deviled eggs. We ordered a few more things for good measure, including the burger which they cut up for us as they knew we were sharing.
The one part that was a bit of a damper is when we asked our server for recommendations and he told us it wasn’t about him it was about us and what we liked…We would have appreciated at least one reccomendation as they have a good sized menu but oh well.

I went to Babette for the first time last night and what a wonderful experience. Our server, Lily, was attentive and sweet. Our food was delicious as was our cocktails. I can't wait to go back and am so thankful this gem is just down the block and a true asset to the downtown dining scene.

One of the few places in Milwaukee that has anything that you could consider French styled cuisine. A decent meat counter with a nice selection of cheeses to go with them. Would recommend either dining in or getting a quick selection of food to go and dying by the lake!

Great meal and great service. Got lucky to come in on the night we got to actually eat a bavette - everything was perfectly cooked and plated beautifully. Very accomodating to our guest with a severe gluten allergy (thank you)! Wine list left a lot to be desired - hopefully they put together a reserve list sometime for some more variety and range. Decor is lovely.

My husband and I ate here on our weekend trip to Milwaukee. This restaurant was the highlight of our trip! We always make it a point to seek out great food on our adventures and when we found out that the chef was a James Beard nominee, we decided that we had to make dinner at Bavette La Boucherie a priority. We had the Hamachi Crudo and Steak Tartare as our appetizers. Both dishes were AMAZING!!! Our entrées were equally delicious. The atmosphere was fun and hip, but not overly stuffy. Excellent experience!

Our experience at Bavette was amazing. It began with our server being extremely knowledgeable about the menu. As we chose dishes our server was able to adequately express the flavors of each dish. The service was great with our food being paced perfectly for us to be able to taste, talk, and enjoy each plate prior to the next being brought out. We didn't feel rushed in the least. We tried several appetizers, a soup, the bone broth, shared an entree, and a dessert. Our bill was only $101 before taxes. That's an incredibly affordable and accessible price for a James Beard nominated restaurant. My partner was impressed with the wine selection and enjoyed all of the wines she tried. She isn't very familiar with dessert wines and aperitifs so our server brought her three samples. The port, the sherry, and the coffee amara (sic). While my wife found the amara nostalgic she ordered the port and really liked it. We have zero negative comments on the food, service, or price. This was an all around great experience and we will be returning to try the rest of the menu soon.

Let. Me. Tell. You. How awesome this place is... how delectable it is... how friendly it is. And...its female owned (yay). Let me tell you about how I'm planning on stopping in monthly because of this one experience...im going to send literally everyone here..whether theyre looking for a recommendation (or not).
I have been eyeing this place for over two years (I know...)...walking past it... walking in to see what's behind the counter... online surfing the menu.... but this past Friday night at 825p it happened. We walked in and received a very warm welcome when we sat down at the bar - despite the fact they were closing in a half hour... introduce Amy! Our wonderful hostess with the mostest with great conversation and awesome recommendations.
The ambiance is great here. Its clean... everything is out in the open. Modern decor... good lighting...good for dates...friends...first encounters. Its the perfect size for a restaurant.
So we sit at the bar. Peep the menus.. We get these manhattans. They were delicious. Presentation was on point. Amy comes back and inquires if were ready to order. She provides suggestions. All the suggestions.
We get:
Cheese and charcuterie board. IT IS ARGUABLY THE BEST IN THE CITY. Tell me where theres better and I will debunk it. Amy told us it was and my natural skepticism kicked in... but she was right. Two crackers/breads that they make, almonds, pate, meats, cheeses, jams, mustards, peppers, olives and others...its beautiful. It's also a meal... easily could have stopped here....this and wine would have been a perfect
...but we were going all in.
The meatballs - over polenta with ricotta and pesto was also recommended... there was a lot recommended....I'm on a mission to try everything now. This was delicious. You get three meatballs, it's a good sized dish.
Then. Then the pork cheeks came out. 🤪 Sauerkraut croquette...it all paired well with the onion.... but when the said these words I was like 'yessssss' In my mind. On the plate there were three beautifully constructed peaks of.....Bone. Marrow. Butter. Shut the door.
And then she brings out our final splurge... the banh mi...with this pork sausage....that melts in your mouth like butter. Literal butter and the flavor is out of this world.
So now its after 930p.. and we have the last of our food. and Amy asks if we want another drink..and we do. And we spent the last 30 minutes of our adventure there snacking on food and talking with Amy and others about the restaurant....food... the world--while they clean up everything and break the case down. I felt completely at home. We learn all about Karen and Bill and how the restaurant operates. They apparently use to offer 'classes' to learn how to breakdown a pig...which is pretty cool... you can catch Bill doing his thing if you time it out.
Karen. Your staff is sublime. Throw them a party! Everyone we interacted with was over the top last night!
I will definitely come back. I am definitely recommending it...I'm already trying to find an excuse to expose new people to it tonight...less than 24 hours later. This is literally the longest review I have written.

Hands down one of the best rueben’s I have ever had in my life! The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful - the kind that falls apart in your mouth. The couscous salad side was a delightful pairing. We also tried the braised beef sandwich which was perfectly done. The cocktails we ordered added to the lovely ambiance of this place! Staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a great date night or warm winter meal!

Wow, Bavette was incredible. The service, food and atmosphere is amazing. We had the meat & cheese charcuterie, um, excellent!! I ordered the corned beef tongue sandwich and my wife had the chicken sliders. Unfortunately I couldn’t try hers (egg allergy) but she raved about the flavor of her sandwich…I am a fan of beef tongue, my wife was not. She wanted to try it (not telling her it was tongue) and couldn’t she believe how good it was… The sandwich was delicious and the chips!…Best salt and vinegar chips I’ve had..Lets not forget about the cocktails…great selection. I had the barreled aged Manhattan and wow, well done. Love the place, the staff and atmosphere. Thumbs up and can’t wait to go back!

The new location is fabulous! While we were not able to get a table outside, it was airy and comfortable inside. Because of the high ceilings it did feel a bit loud during the busy lunch rush.
I ordered the kimchi steak sandwich and the level of spiciness was perfect, the steak was tender and the old school potato salad side was mostly yummy (the potatoes were sort of grainy in texture so it's probably a personal preference issue rather than a quality question).
Caveat for tea drinkers...generally speaking, an ice tea request assumes a default of black tea. It's not. Here it is sport tea, a nasty sweet surprise if you're not expecting it and don't want a kid drink. They didn't remove it from my bill but I didn't insist ( and I didn't drink it).
Staff was friendly and attentive, able to answer all the menu questions.

The first sight upon entering Bavette is the butcher case, filled with cuts of meat. This is a wonderful appetite whetting of what awaits.
A diverse menu offers options galore, enough to make it difficult to choose! When in doubt, order a charcuterie and cheese plate. If anyone would do that right, it’d be Bavette.

Great food, great service. I had the deviled eggs appetizer (split order with dining companion) and I thought they were very good. My dish (pictured) was the salt cod croquettes, it was spicy, crunchy and very satisfying. My friend had a pork and coleslaw sandwich which she said was very tasty. Lively little indoor space, nicely separated by plastic curtains. There is also a covered outdoor area. Our server was very attentive and friendly, much appreciated. Will be back!

We had another delicious experience last week at La Bavette. Caught in extremely heavy traffic into downtown, we called to say we’d be 15 minutes late and had theater tickets
They reassured us that they could get us fed and on our way in time!
They seated us immediately upon arrival and brought menus right away. We ordered two entrees and two glasses of wine,, and we had a delicious meal with excellent service but did not feel rushed. Server was extremely pleasant and helpful!
The seared steak sandwich was delicious, perfectly prepared with a generous side of a yummy couscous salad! My husband ordered
a roasted delicata squash salad and a side of Pozole that he said was wonderful. We had plenty of time to drive to Renaissance Theaterworks on the other side of the river and were in our seats with time to spare. We’ve always been pleased with the food at La Bavette but this experience will bring us back even sooner than usual.
We were pleased to see plastic partitions between the tables for additional health security.

This place makes such an effort to source the finest ingredients for their end product and it shows. The pork belly banh mi was unbelievably tender and perfectly balanced with the pickles and freshly baked bread.
I would also highly recommend the cheese plate. We’re in Wisconsin after all!

This was my first visit to Bavette. I picked up a to-go order. But there was plenty of seating just before the lunch rush (no indoor seating due to COVID). I ordered a beer sandwich with potatoes salad (chips were the other side selection).
The sandwich looked a little small in the box for the price but filled me up with the side salad (I am a big guy). The sandwich was tender, flavorful and the ingredients showed care in preparation. The potato salad was a cool modern take on the typical old school side. This one had corn and chunks of celery.
Really good lunch. I will definitely visit again with coworkers or clients

I came in to get some steaks and based off of the reviews I expected super high quality. The atmosphere was cute and quiet. They have a cocktail bar and you are able to sit in and get a bite to eat. The new York strips I got were 30 dollars a piece and when I cooked them they were not worth the price. Although the spot was cute and the selection was good, I still didn't see what made this place so special.

I drive past this place daily and finally decided to stop by. It's usually quite busy, even in the outdoor section. A meat based restaurant with extremely delicious pescatarian options. The steak sandwich smelled phenomenal. They also have a very wide selection of wines, as well as canned wines.

Bavette has a lovely set of greenhouses out front and does a great job with COVID precautions with them for cautious diners. We dined in the greenhouse for a special evening out and it was a lovely private and safe experience. The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the chicken liver crostini, as was their wine selection, and we had a fantastic evening out.

Extremely good food. We sat at the bar (recommended) which provided us an excellent seat to watch the chef put all his care & expertise into his craft.
Our Sandies were very good... the service was just good... kinda felt like we were passed by a bit due to the very bar locale that was favorable to prep peep. I would recommend overall!

I enjoyed the great atmosphere and attitude of this piece of gold in downtown Milwaukee. I usually dont order burgers, but I heard great reviews about them. I tried it and it was extraordinary. Everyone else seemed to enjoyed their food. I was sitting at the bar watching everyone in the kitchen working in unison, like melody. If available take a chocolate cookie with encrusted with chips, that's right chips, the best cookie ever.

Outstanding! Everything from the food to the service. The braised beef was super tender and flavorful. We did start with the pimento cheese spread. Never thought I would recommend pimento cheese, but this was great! Definitely worth the trip when in MKE!

This is what happens when you combine responsible local sourcing of ingredients with masterful preparation. Best meal--but not even close to the most expensive--I have ever had in Milwaukee. I had the corn-beet-greens salad adorned with heirloom tomatoes, roast beef sandwich with roasted cherry tomatoes and horseradish and corn pudding with berries for dessert. Each course exceeded my already-high expectations. Service was excellent--staff was attentive, but I was not rushed. I enjoyed friendly conversation with Ed, my server, and Karen, the chef-owner.
I was going to say if you live in Milwaukee, you should go here, but really, if you live in North America, you should go here. I walked in on a Saturday evening and was immediately seated. Next time I hope for a 30-minute wait because this restaurant deserves to fly.

I live in Green Bay, but every time I'm in Milwaukee I make sure to stop here. Every sandwich I've ever had has been unbelievable. The buns are amazing because they hold up to all the meat and toppings, and the meat is absurdity. Super tender. Crazy flavorful. Incredible. If we had one in GB, I would be there too often.

I started coming to Milwaukee regularly about two years ago. I found this restaurant then and go back once or twice every weekend I stay in the city. Not only is it my favorite restaurant in the city but one of my favorite restaurants. I own a company that's function is tracing and sourcing high quality food and the attention to detail and ambition of this menu always impresses me.

My friends and I found this lovely restaurant by accident. The food is fantastic and the service is exceptional. Our server went out of her way to 100% make sure she attended to one of the party who has a nut allergy. Funny, but his girlfriend accidentally dipped an almond chip into their shared jelly. We and the server watched this in slo-mo as she absentmindedly went for it. The server merely snatched the jelly before it all registered to go grab new separate ones for them. It was funny and she was a delight. You will not be disappointed.

Stopped by Bavette's on our visit to Milwaukee. Unbeknownst to us it would be amazing, delicious, and would make us want to return for more. Though it's a butcher shop, it's a cozy sit-down restaurant in a lovely neighborhood in the historic Third Ward district. With a constantly evolving menu, sustainable practices, and ethical sourcing, it's a place worth a visit!

Great service, good appetizers and drinks. Unfortunately, it kind of ended there for us. They were out of the main I ordered (braised beef). Instead we went with a Corned Beef Tongue Reuben (good) and the Meatball sandwich (mediocre). For the price, we'd probably only go back for drinks and snacks.

This place is outstanding. It has some of the more original and tasty menu items in the city and very reasonable prices. The drink menu is fantastic as well with a good selection of beer and surprising mixed drinks. The ambiance is fantastic especially the big open work space where you can watch them break down meat. Wow! I have had many Charcuterie Plates in NY/ NJ, but this one was out of this world amazing! From the meat, to the cheese, to the jams, to the mustards... just wow! I would just go back to WI for this meal! I sat at the bar and also really enjoyed watching the staff prepare the various meats. Lastly, I am a huge fan of this popular sparkling lemonade. Is this a Midwest thing?! Whatever it is, I love it!

Such a shame the city of Milwaukee didn’t allow them to keep their tent up. You’d think the city would support restaurants during Covid, but I guess the health and vitality of Milwaukee businesses isn’t a priority.

The Butcher took his time explaining to me the different cuts of meat and even how to cook them to perfection. I've been told by several people that these are the best steaks that they have ever ate. (I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat meat but love to make these steaks because the people I make them for love them) great service, great product and I highly recommend Bavette La Boucherie!

I am a big fan of charcuterie and cheese boards so I made a point to visit Bavette while in Milwaukee. We ordered the meat and cheese plate which came with 3 meats, 3 cheeses, raspberries, a jam, and pickled apple. We also ordered the pickled veggie tray. Overall it was very good. I loved the pickled beets, beet soaked eggs, and the Wisconsin cheese that was on the board. My only (minor) complaint is that the cheeses were all fairly mild and the meats all tasted very similar. I would have also loved a mustard. I would recommend going and would definitely go back again as the boards are always changing.

Bavette La Boucherie was the best restaurant I ate at during my stay in Milwaukee. BLB had the most interesting menu of any of the restaurants I tried. Both the cheese plate and the burrata salad were delicious. You're thinking that's a lot of cheese, but I didn't know what burrata was--I got the salad because I love roasted beets. They have an extensive beer and wine list, by which I mean that they cover everything from craft beer to digestifs. Desserts look delicious (pastry chef was working on small desserts for an event while I was there), but I didn't have it in me. It's easy to miss the entry to BLB since it's next to a lively, more pub-like restaurant, but I highly recommend it. Friendly staff, and a great playlist.

I've been to bavette twice already and they have not disappointed yet! My favorite so far is the braised beef, who woulda thought that roasted grapes and mushrooms on a beef sandwich would pair so wonderfully. Needless to say I will be back many times in the future.
One last thing, the cornbread with honey butter is a must side order 😊😊😊

Came here not knowing much about this place and had the best Reuben sandwich I have ever had in my life. The meat was so tender it could fall apart. The steak tartare was also fantastic. We would be back here in a heart beat, I highly recommend it.

High quality ingredients in awesome combinations. There's nothing else quite like it in Milwaukee. Sit at the bar/counter for quick but relaxed service, and you also get a show as the staff buzzes away on sausage making and other butchery.

Chef owner Karen Bell creates and delivers spectacular food made fresh using the highest quality local ingredients. Charcuterie and cheese selection is fantastic and the butcher shop is amazing with excellent house made sausage including the best lamb merguez I have had.

We came in without reservation a little after 6 on a Wednesday... and there were lots of open tables (which stayed open until we left), but were told there were no tables. We ended up sitting at the bar.
Our server/bartender was Jacob and he was superb. He was very accommodating in making a keto friendly (well, at least, sugar free) Old Fashioned for me. I was a happy camper. For some reason not a lot of bartenders I've met know how to use sugar free sweeteners.
Food.
hubby had the Beef tongue Reuben ($16) with a side of Aioli ($1.5) and fries. I won't say it was a huuuuge stack of meat, but decent, and with good flavors. Actually, he really liked the beef tongue - it was surprisingly tender.
I had the Butchers Steak - the Bavette cut. Honestly, it wasn't worth $35. The pomme aligot (cheesy mashed potatoes) and the foie gram mousse was top notch (though I couldn't have much of the pomme aligot, per keto). But the steak itself was a sirloin, and though well cooked, I really do prefer a fattier cut. Of course, I had to try it to know that. So I won't be getting this dish again, especially at this price point!
Unfortunately, there really aren't other great keto options here for dinner... maybe the pork cheeks and charcuterie.
For a whole meat butchery, I was disappointed in their steak selection.
