My wife and I have been to Key West many times, an Barnacle Buds, believe it or not is a little piece of Key West in Milwaukee.
It's an outdoor restaurant, some of it has a roof over it, plenty of bench or 2 seater tables. You get a great view of the Milwaukee river overlooking the city in a distance. All different kinds of boats pull up. All variety of people are welcome. Casual dress.
Try the Shrimp tacos for appetizers and The Grouper Fish fry.
So flaky. Delicious.
And they even have Key Lime pie, and its yellow like it should be👍. The service is good and friendly. It's a little Jewel that's hidden away on the South side of Milwaukee.
Absolutely a must go to for Fish and a touch of
🏖🏝🏖🏝

This hidden gem is truly a treasure! Immaculate summer vibes - I feel like I'm on vacation every time I go! They have buckets of tiny beers, cocktails and amazing food! Everything is amazing, but DO NOT MISS out on the Grouper Reuben sandwich. It is amazing - maybe the best sandwich I've ever had!! Flavorful, crunchy breaded grouper + coleslaw + Swiss on rye bread ... it is amazing!!
Nick Jakobi
Fun dive, middle of nowhere south of Milwaukee. Tried the perch and walleye fish fry, neither was fantastic but not bad either. Fries were great! Go for the outdoor deck in the sun, great spot to enjoy a summer day. Would try other menu items like burger or wings.

We were greeted with a warm welcome! Grabbed a drink at the bar while we waited for a table to open up. We didn't wait long, and were seating right by the water and got to watch the beautiful sunset. Our waitress was Olivia, and let me tell ya, she knows how to provide customer service! Such a warm smile and dimeanor, she was patient and helped us decide on a dish. Olivia is such a personable person and we were very glad to have had her. I will say the bartenders were a bit rude at times and standoffish.
For an appetizer, we got the crab and artichoke dip and dressed it up a bit with old bay and chipotle cholula. Sadly they were out of the crawfish, so I ended up getting the Cajun mussels. My s/o got the grouper reuben; the only complaint he had was the fries were a bit small.
We were so pleased with the atmosphere and service. I have a feeling this will be our place to go this summer!
Erika Comdohr
The grouper reuben is sooo delicious. Love the atmosphere and the tiki bar! So cool you can drive your boat up to the restaurant on the dock and grab some food to go.
Rusty Shackleford
We loved this place! Food, atmosphere, and fun. Highly recommend the Grouper Reuben! Can't wait to go back
Noor Al
Best patio by the river. Food is great and drinks are awesome. Highly recommended.
I’m glad we got to enjoy it one last time for this summer
Rick and Dani Gramza
Fun and chill atmosphere that can get a lil wild in the evening. Tricky to find as it’s behind skipper buds in the River. Grouper tacos are outstanding, hours can be tricky so call first, open and close dependent on the season and crowd.
Susan Balistreri
LOVE the whole concept but disappointed in the Jambalaya 😔 (just my opinion) I've been to New Orleans and I'm a little spoiled. But the Buffalo Shrimp is amazing!!!

I last visited Barnacle Bud's about 15 years ago as I wanted to take my wife, Ginger and her sister to this hidden gem for a fish fry. It's really changed from being indoor dining now with a expanded outdoor patio! We had to wait a few minutes for an outdoor table, but it was worth it. The beer battered fish was flaky and delicious with tartar sauce. The fries could've been a bit crisper served with a good heaping of coleslaw and rye bread with butter. DELICIOUS!

We loved Barnacle Buds, the location looked crazy, hidden between industry, some abandoned buildings, but it opened up into a boat loading zone and this cute restaurant with umbrellas next to a dock appeared. Food was amazing and the views were interesting too. The menu was was full of funny sayings.
Ramsey_Jd
Normally I'm not a fan of fish fry but it was a mouth watering, melt in your mouth type experience. I love being right on the water with a fun atmosphere and I feel like this is one of milwaukees hidden gems, you would never accidentally find this place but you won't be disappointed if you try it! I personally wasn't a fan of the coleslaw and there were a lot of flies this time but overall I would definitely recommend this place to others!
EDIT: I forgot to mention the best part.. CRAB CAKES! just try it you won't be disappointed!!
Joanne Lambert
Coconut shrimp is awesome.
Atmosphere was wonderful.
Rum and Coke good as well

Once was Milwaukee's coolest hidden gem. Not so hidden anymore. Just went on beautiful Tuesday night and there was a wait to get seated if you were eating. Have been going for 20 years, people have definitely found it. Funky Key West vibe. Great place to have drinks in the summer. Virtually all outdoor seating. Mostly go to drink but food is decent enough. Good oyster special on Tuesdays. Boaters hangout. Try it, you will be glad you found it.
Susy Castillo
Always enjoy coming here all the way from Chicago!! The margaritas are so delicious and so is the food!!! My favorite is the Shrimp Po Boy. The beverage menu is always very impressive!

Great hidden Gem. Very comfortable. Homemade food. Looks over the water. Outside seating is amazing. Service was great. Happy to find a place like this!

I can see why the locals enjoy this space for seasonal summer fair. It's just a hop away on the north side of Bayview and tucked back behind both siipperbuds and Santinos Little Italy (with their high ratings Will need a night of exploring all of it's own). Barnacles is seasonally quiet and outdoors for this part of town. Unique to Barnacles is that as a seasonal Summer destination, it's mostly outdoors and by the lower kinnickinnic as it flows early south from the lake Michigan joint that also goes north up the Milwaukee river. It's more on the quiet side with many bar food offerings and a few surprises. I enjoyed the lobster roll which was really an enjoyable seafood salad with seafood flavors but no pronounced lobster central-not an expected "lobster roll" .... Great coleslaw and many excellent beer but in cans. (If draft was available on other days, it wasn't on this mid August visit. Be careful to park....... once on East Stewart in order to line up with only Barnacles angled parking slots (tow zones are heavily marked around Barnacle's parking area designated for Skipper Bud's and adjacent property warehouse businesses....) continue straight on East Stewart to Santinos Little Italy--4way stop. Then, continue straight on East Stewart till turning onSouth Marina Drive. Before the chain link fence, turn left and you'll see Barnacles only parking on the right. You'll notice that after-hours the distribution centers on the left from B's parking also allows certain other areas also for parking.
Service-excellent. Glasses and service was always full and available during our visit. On the water and enjoyable but until they build something across the river-not much vista. Truly though for an outdoor seasonal eatery north of the upcoming Bayview neighborhood, we did enjoy our week day mid afternoon visit.

Had a great experience. Was hot as can be but our waitress took great care of us. Oyster were delicious, ate them before we took the pic lol. Perch and catfish in the pics were equally delicious.
brenda A
Shrimp Po boy and grouper fish fry was awesome. The location is so much fun sitting in the outside bar. Servers are always very attentive and fun.
Bailey Minard
I've always said I have a mermaid soul. If my two mermaid tails don't prove it, I'm not sure what does. If you're anything like me, Barnacle Bud's is the place to be. Hidden down a side street and just off the river you'll find this gem. Barnacle Buds offers the perfect beach bar vibe with a great seafood selection. Everything smelled and tasted so good I forgot to take a photo until I was finished eating!
Mizz Lady
This was our first time here. The ambiance was very nice. The wings were great, the fried cod was great, the lobster roll was decent. We will be back
Tim Ignacio
As far as the restaurant is concerned in a bar and eatery they are great. I did decide to do a little bit of fishing in that harbor or whatever you call that body of water. That was the most disgusting fishing spot I've ever seen in my natural life I've never seen more garbage and more junk in the water than in lake Michigan at that portion of Milwaukee I will never fish there again ever unless somebody pays me to. The amount of garbage in there was just horrific I couldn't believe it I've never seen anything like it in my entire life and I'm from Florida the land of where garbage comes from.

OK... So this place is tucked away for a reason! My friend brought me here and I was thrown off by the unmarked parking and hidden nature of this place. But, once we sat down, I knew this was absolutely a great spot for anyone looking for a good time. Get the oysters and a classic Dark N' Stormy!
Dawn Cerise
Finding it was challenging, but the adventure was a really cool part of the experience! Barnacle Buds was perfectly lovely!! Our service was absolutely perfect and the recommended grouper was beyond delicious!! My margarita Rocked 💚💚💚💚
Carlos Benitez-Albiter
Place has an amazing location, but food takes a while to get out to you. Ordered half a dozen oysters they were not cold when they came out. Drinks were on the spot. Although you could tell everything in the bloody Mary bar had been sitting out for a while.
Michelle T.
Nice ambiance minus all the trash in the water. I know it's not their fault but it still wasn't appealing to eat next to floating garbage. Food was good but portions were small, except the salad but it was very basic it's name, "damn nice salad". Waitress was helpful in explaining the dishes because the menu didn't.
CykoMF Harley
This place is a hidden gem! Located right on the river with float up access. Relaxed and whimsical atmosphere with a flotsam and jetsom decor. Decent food too! Really going to miss this place
John Berry
Great little quaint place on the river. Fish tacos were great. Service a little slow. We sat outside but had to move once due to the sun cooking us. I'd come back again.
Stacy K (Wanderingcontessa)
It's finally warm here in Milwaukee. We stopped for cocktails at Barnacle Bud's last night after dinner. It's great little place on the Milwaukee river. They have several patios, and we sat right by the river. Great wait staff. My beer could have been a little colder, but I lived. We had dinner which was just okay.
Anna baby
Omg...every time I go here, its absolutely amazing!! Best crab cakes in Wisconsin!! Love the atmosphere on the water. Real hidden gem!
Marco Bonacquisto
This place is okay. The first time I went the bartenders on the dock area were very rude and didn't even seem to want us there. My girlfriend and I were ignored most of our time there and the drinks were pricey for what you get. So we sat at the bar, got one drink then immediately left.
A positive note though is the host and wait staff, they are very nice and willing to go the extra mile.
BUT, and this is the big one, good luck trying to dock a boat here. It is mostly private dock space. With the main attraction of this place being that it's on the water, I was disappointed when my pontoon boat with 10 people on it couldn't even dock there.
Overall, the drinks are meh, the staff is alright, the location is good and I'd say this is more of a place for college students.
I won't be coming back BUT, don't let my review be the end all. Go in and try it out yourself, the location being on the water is worth it.
Kati Pearson
Atmosphere is fantastic!! Right on the river. Carribean beach vibe. Food was great. I got the cod fish fry and husband got the burger. Mixed drinks made you feel like you were on vacation. Would definitely go back!
Colin
Had multiple fantastic experiences here with great staff that are always more than helpful. Food has been great and seems like something that wouldn’t be found in wisconsin. Location is also great it’s nice to be on the water, just wish that new warehouse wasn’t being built! Overall great visits.
Aimee “ajblock” Block
It's an interesting location and not very easy to find... which is part of the charm. 5 stars for ambiance. It's fun!
Food is more 3 or 4 stars. I really liked my grouper fish fry. But the fries and mozz sticks were "eh." My husband's burger was ok. Prices were average but too high for the amount of food.
The wait on a Friday night was an hour. Obviously that tells you it's a popular place! :)
If you haven't tried it, you need to at least once. It's mostly outdoor seating, so go on a nice warm evening.
LaTasha Smith
everything was on point there i love my drinks but the salmon i order was very dry but i love the vibe there, everyone was so friendly
Asadeidein Ali
Great atmosphere and great food. Lots of options. Great service and adequate wait time. Give the buffalo shrimp a try u won't regret it if u like the buffalo flavor.
Stephanie LaBrash
From a southerner visiting from the foodie mecca of Atlanta, I'ma say that was some mighty fine fried catfish y'all served up last night. Two thumbs up. Only thing missed were some hush puppies.
Steven Schallitz
I ordered the grouper fish fry and 6 oysters with a $10 summer punch which was mostly ice and a beer. The food and the service was exceptional but the portions where a real disappointment. This place isn't the value it use to be ,for the $50 I spent just for myself I rather go to the st.pauls fish market and be full....but it is on the river so there's that.
Jennifer Rivas
Service was Amazing and the food was outstanding! Crab cake sandwich and Grouper Po Boy! The Bloody Mary was excellent as well!
Matita
Oysters were great but I do not recommend the chicken sandwich. It smelled funky and the cheese wasn’t melted. Next time I’ll try a seafood dish
Kathy Kay
Bloody Mary was fantastic and you get a 8 oz can of beer with it for 8.50. 10.00 build you own on weekends, not sure if it was Saturday or Sunday or both. My husband had the hamburger that he said he would have again. I had grouper sandwich, it was mushy but ok. All sandwiches around $10 to $12, comes with fries or onion rings. We each ordered the oposite. The onion rings were good. the fries were the frozen bought ones but good. If you like the nautical venue, go you will enjoy it. Boats are docked next to seating, which are mostly picnic tables and seats by the rail that seat 2 people. I will see you there because I have more on the menu to try, like margarita monday for $ 5 and Tuesdays oysters on the shell 1. 50 , otherwise were $2. half rack of ribs, I think were 14.95. More on menu I can't remember. It gets busy on nice days like regular restaurants. Try it. It's hard to find but you should go at least once.
Justin Kasdorf
Totally awesome staff and hidden location. If you have been to any oceanfront town, you will get this nautical themed place. It’s unlike anywhere else in Milwaukee. The food and drinks are good, but the prices are even better. Seafood has never been so cheap and delicious. Talk about a fun time! It’s nice and wild here when the weather is nice. Make sure to enjoy all the views of the river and how things are reshaping along the riverfront where the coal factory used to be.
Lauren Audetat
A real hidden gem of a local hang-out. Great food. Excellent cocktails. Friendly service. Can't go wrong at Bud's.
Sarah Cortese
Amazing food and service. Directly on the lake with great views of the skyline and casual atmosphere. We just loved it, and will definitely be back!
Marie B
Always friendly staff. Great fresh food. On the weekends your food could take a while to come out. I went for my birthday a week ago and it took forever but was worth it. Owner is very friendly.
Amy Esposito
Definitely a must try at least once. Maybe only once. Was windy while we were there but service was great and food and drinks were hearty and on theme.
Kristin Kinzel
Great vibe with covered or open air outdoor seating and water views! Excellent food - the grouper rueben came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint
Dan Moro
Absolutely fantastic food and atmosphere. Friendly service, fast delivery, hot and fresh. Had the steamed muscles, delish, lobster roll and fish sandwich, all delicious. Highly recommended.
Mary Eggert
We love Barnacle Buds! Fun atmosphere, good drinks and great food. We always feel welcome. It’s a hidden gem in Milwaukee!
Emily Anderson
I went for lunch once and had a great time.... went back for the crawfish boik anf hsd an awesome time. Would definitely recommend. It's nice being right on the river..good sunset views.
Good for dates... friend gatherings...everyone that I've encountered here has been awesome.
Janet F
Husband got the better dish, lobster roll and onion rings. I had the grouper Reuben and fries. The fish Reuben was good, the sauce was a little hot. The French fries were a big disappointment: cold, no salt, dry. Not even ketchup could redeem them. But our server was kind and gave me a Cole slaw in appeasement. That deserves 4 stars. It WAS a very busy Friday dinner time.
Sharon Silva
Nice setting on the water and boats. Very casual. I had the lobster sandwich and it was plentiful. Great waitress, it was packed and hot but she was still cheery.
Ken k
So good beautiful out down here..
crab cakes were delicious
Awkward Giraffe
Right on the water. No one in the group cared for their food though. Drinks were decent. More. Of a drinks place.
Adriana Frandsen
What’s not to love about Barnacle Buds? It’s AMAZING! drinks are also very good. It’s a nice view in the summer time to have lunch or dinner on the water! Great tasting food and nice servers 👍🏼👍🏼 …
Britt Saunders
Great location and service. Excellent fresh oysters. Lobster roll was too salty and tasted mediocre for $18. Grouper Ruben was pretty good. I recommend the mussels and various types of fried fish, as well as the Key Lime pie, which is amazing.
Venetian Baroque
Nice experience on the water, as we dined outside. Designated parking is a bit far from restaurant. The walleye was excellent, however you are only served one (1) filet.
David Gray Wright
Key West meets Milwaukee. A lively dock side bar and restaurant, oozing with reverie and leisure. The crowd is quite mixed - from shot slamming 20 somethings, to old bikers. Nooks and crannies abound.
Matt S
Nice pier-side experience with fresh fish dishes. Good local beer selection
Nick Hintze
Have been going here since I was a kid with my Grandparents. Today I went with my work crew for lunch and it was ever so great! And the view!
Loren Gehr
We had gone on an overcast day but I'm so glad we did! The Buffalo Shrimp were amazing, they pack some heat as well as a slight tang! I ordered the Grouper fish fry and it was incredible. Perfectly seasoned, didn't even need the tartar sauce! The person with me got the Lobster Roll and let me tell you, you better bring your appetite as it was overflowing both with flavor and food! Fyi, it's in the middle of a shipyard, so if you feel like you're lost, just keep driving you'll see it eventually... Unless you're actually lost...
Mary Jane Sanchez
A Milwaukee classic must go to spot on the river. Our own little hide away getaway to the tropics tucked away for the locals and adventurous visitors
Tj Rodee
Food was great. I had the crawfish tails and my wife had the shrimp po boy. Both were excellent. Server was really good as well. Very attentive and she had a bunch of tables. Great experience. Eat here for sure!
Jennifer Piccione
My daughter had the wings and she said they were really good. I got the grooper rueben with fries...sandwich was good, fries were blah. Our server, Chris, was eh. Waited 15 minutes for him to bring us the wrong check. It seemed like if you weren't a regular or buying alcoholic beverages he paid less attention to you
Sheetal Gowda
Such a fun place! The service is both very kind and very direct, it's great, the area is fantastic, and the food and drinks are amazing. The crab cake burger is one of the best I've ever had. I've been trying to get everyone I know to come back with me so 1) they can experience this place and 2) so I can go again.
S Berg
Had the grouper tacos- very good!! Unlike the mussels I had the last time I was here (about a month ago). (Don't get the mussels - too many were bad and never opened!)
The tacos were crunchy and the fish inside was moist and flaky. A great view, cold drinks and decent food! Couldn't ask for much more!
Mike Lehman
Great atmosphere and service
Had surf and turf
Alexis Westergren
Being from Key West, I miss my seafood here in the Midwest. Barnacle Buds brought me home! Will definitely be a regular stop.
Kaya Kloth
I've been here plenty of times. It's always makes me think I'm on vacation! I've drove in via rode and water, public boat parking is located right in front of the restaurant. I've only ever had excellent food - my favorite is the coconut shrimp! I've dragged plenty of my friends along and they always love joining. Atmosphere is great, service is great. I just love this place!
Loryn Denney
Great outdoor seating with plenty of space between tables. Food was on point ... tasty and great portions. Drinks were great too! The service was relaxed and even when more customers came there was still a relaxed feeling and we weren't rushed along. Can't wait to go back!
Wes Edens
My FAVORITE patio space out of ALL Milwaukee bars. Feels like a wharf! Tasteful maritime decor, zero traffic noise, right on the river. Watch boats float by! Food portions aren’t huge but it’s good quality. Server didn’t bill for a side of fries which was rather small. Prices are reasonable. Including 20% tip, last time I spent about $30 for a solid chicken sandwich and 3 modest beers. The staff are there to serve you, not to be your friend, which I can appreciate! I highly recommend the peel n eat shrimp.
Marissa
This place is ADORABLE and the fish was fantastic. However, I didn’t eat more than two bites of the lobster roll and I’m not picky at all. It was imitation lobster and that was NOT NOTED on the menu. If it was, that’s what I would’ve expected, but it wasn’t. The waitress was very nice, the views were incredible and it truly was cute. The lobster roll just disappointed me SO much.
Lynn Sharp
Great location boats on the Lake,... Train tracks going by oh yeah 👍 and the food is really good drinks are interesting and fun …
Mike Gillard
Great atmosphere and food. Hard to get here by land but easy by boat. A little live music on Tuesday night made it perfect.
Charles Otis
Right on the water, you can sometimes even see floating pillows. Bar is fun, food is great. 5-6 different fishes you can have for fry.
Joe A
Shrimp Po Boy and Grouper are excellent. Wait staff is fantastic.
Evelyn Wolff
So I visited this place on a whim. It is situated in an odd spot in a harbor/industrial area behind the sketchiest Italian restaurant ever. It gives it an air of danger, that just adds to the charm. The oysters were the best I've had in a non coastal city. They had grouper which I had only had in Florida, and it was fresh and we'll prepared. There was an incident with a baby possum that ran into the restaurant. But that was cute. If you want to eat a lot of oysters I recommend going on Tuesday for the happy hour prices. The drinks were absolutely fantastic, and the service friendly.
Mason Lugo
Super good!!! Can’t go wrong. View of the Milwaukee river since you’re eating at the docks. Parking is the only slightly tricky part, pay attention to the signs.
j2mutch
The bartender took our food order. He was personable, attentive and conversational!
Tony Berger
Sat outside for a beer on a hot day. Not a bad IPA said and done after a nice fat bike ride in lake Michigan
Roger Grundman
Great outdoor dining. Large portions and excellent food. Server was prompt and courtesy. Highly recommend!
Georgia Brown
Great atmosphere! The crawfish tails were excellent & everyone else in my group loved the grouper Rueben!
Julie Rohde
Lobster roll was great.
Chicken tenders got a thumbs up. A little too cold that day but it was fun.
You have to be looking for it to find it.
Katelyn Minerick
So fun every time I come here! Missing Barnacle Bud's now that it's cold! Well priced beers and good food. I like it all but especially the crab cakes and KK sandwich. Took some friends here who are the pickiest eaters I've ever met and they even loved their fish fry.
Jim Spotts
The bar is excellent! The location is amazing. You can sit in the back along the river and see beautiful views of the city. And feel like you're a tourist in your own town! I would rate the food as average. But everything else makes up for it.
Zach M
Perfect " off the beaten path " place with plenty of decor to feast your eyes upon. The food and service are always great. Do yourself a favor and offer a Dumpster punch!!
Sarah Hogan
Food is overpriced but pretty good. It's an awesome setting on a hot day at sunset with an ice cold tropical drink!🍹 …
Lindsey Yadon
Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, awesome food. Don’t miss this place!
Valerie C
You cant get a better view of the river in Milwaukee, greatly priced, friendly staff, and delicious food. Love this place!
Terri G
Cute spot, lots of seating
Jeremy Miller
Best visited during the summer months when you’re craving some fish.
Shelly Bradley
Casual beachy atmosphere. Burgers were great and the onion rings were delicious! Cannot wait to go again!
Tricia Mann
The experience is terrific. Tucked away on the water. Expect a wait and you can enjoy a cocktail and relax by the river. Food is mostly seafood but some other options.
mulliking89
As you follow your GPS, it tells you to turn left. You obey, without question. You see the road end.. only warehouses can be seen all around. Signs warn you of guard dogs on duty. Panic! Are you lost? The path you drive along worsens in condition. You look for somewhere to turn around and escape. There is no way out, only forward. You continue; scared. A sign for parking is spotted; hope! You continue. The narrow drive widens. Civilization! Cars are found, scattered around with minimal pattern. You find an opening, you claim it as your own. People wander around now. You choose to follow them. They drift through a partially opened chain link gate. Your senses are tingling (you weren't by a spider (sorry)). You proceeded ahead, unsure of your fate. Looming figures guard the path ahead. You approach; apprehension. They know you? You're greeted as friend. Tensions start to fade. You have been welcomed; acceptance. They beckon you to follow. You trust them, as they guide you ahead. You are lead to a place, as others before you, you sit. Someone approaches! They greet you as friend. You are safe. They bring you drink to quench your thirst after your long travels. You feel at ease. Sustenance is delivered. You are among friends, all is well. WAIT! Something is wrong. Panic! As you consumed what has been provided, you let your guard down. You realize it, but it's too late! There's nothing else to do, no one to help.. It's a trap! You consumed all the provided sustenance. Confusion! Your insides tell you a mistake was made, but your mouth still wants more. Satisfaction!
Matthew Taub
Cool nautical bar that makes you feel like you are in Florida. If you don’t like eating outside you should go somewhere else. Food is solid and drinks are fun
Joe Pelletieri
Food and atmosphere was nice but the boats by the dock had the air smelling like gas. I would still recommend
lindsay swalve
This place was lively and fun. There were lots of boats out on the water and it was pretty packed. We sat on the pier while we waited for a table and the hostess was on top of keeping everyone straight. Super good service and the food was delicious. It is kind of hidden, and upon arriving it feels like there couldn't possibly be a restaurant anywhere around; just factories. But follow the signs.
Lynne J
What an amazing find. Delish food and a terrific setting. A bit hard to find but worth the effort.
Elias Estrada
Had a great time at Barnacle buds. We love the atmosphere and the food! We ordered the Coconut shrimp dinner and it was delicious. They serve it with a really good sweet and spicy sauce. We also ordered the cajun garlic sauce mussels which were really good and they added garlic bread with it. The bloody Mary was great and it came with a mini miller bottle of beer!
Luke Lauritzen
Very cool little hidden spot on the river. Good food, good drinks, great atmosphere.
Lori lietke
Fun place on the river with great food, and a great build your own bloody mary bar. Inside and outside seating. A little gem just outside the Bay View area.
Darcie Schilcher
Very popular place, a hidden gem. surrounded by open water not a good place to bring little kids as their are no guard rails boats dock to enjoy the food. We arrived at 345 for an early dinner it was already getting busy. By 5 there was a wait list. Fast service, reasonably priced, and our food came out quickly.
Neisha McGahee
Awesome place!!! The food was great, customer service was very pleasant☺️ I will be going back!!! I wish I could give them 10 stars!!!
Daisy LeCruz Aldape
I loved it. Very family oriented, beautiful view. Staff was outstanding the food was soo soo good. Love the wings. I like them bettwr then bw3s. Good job guys defiantly great 1st time experience & coming back.
Eric Michalski
Good stop! Took a little navigating to find because it's hidden in the back. Don't worry, if you feel like your driving into an alley, you're on the right path.
We got seated right away on the deck outside and were greeted promptly. Service was excellent and the lady was very sweet. Ended up getting the salad with lobster and was extremely disappointed to find out it was imitation lobster. Asked for it with grilled chicken and the waitress exchanged it no questions asked. The shrimp poboy was overall, okay. Shrimp was cooked and seasoned excellent, but the bun was blah. Also, the fries weren't great either.
Overall, we would come back because of the service and location of it being on the river. Definitely will have something different next time though.
kevin miller
A great out of the ordinary place. Friendly staff good food. We had a wonderful experience there celebrating our sons graduation with family and friends.
Patrick Jost
A great place to sit by the water drink and eat! Very friendly staff! Anything on the menu is good!
Richard G.
Young hostess wearing mirrored sunglasses seemed very impersonal, like we were a bother. Told us a huge round table for about 12 people was the only one open and we had 4. A minute later two much smaller tables opened up. It was fairly crowded, and waitress was good. Food was pretty greasy and fries not done. Not impressed.
Band Galaxy
Only had bloody Mary's, but the food smelled & looked really good!!
Steve Hansen
Amazing food. Good service. Right on the river. Little weird to get to it but well worth it.
Steven Sturdevant
The parking situation is atrocious. The check in process is chaotic on that you have to try to find a hostess through all the people dining and waiting just to get in the list. The food was good, but I only got 1 piece of grouper for $16, which was quite expensive for what I received.
Jacob Allord
Good food, hilarious decor. Only complaint is they don't like splitting bills.
Marie B
Always great fresh food and great service.
Leigha Rae
Wonderful food, service and ambiance. I had a drink either a vodka cooler or violet cooler and it was delish.
Peter Evans
Cheap beer. Solid food. Great view. Good vibes.
Kelsey K
Amazing place on the water - they do have docks available if you’re arriving by boat. Delicious drinks, good bar food, can’t beat the atmosphere. Feels like you’re on vacation.
Elizabeth Beres
Absolutely Amazing day! The waitstaff is great, they remembered everything. My son was celebrating his Birthday and was given Key Lime pie! So tasty! Love Love Love this place!
Kathryn Goral
Amazing place but sort of underground. Sunshine, river, beer, fun drinks and the best fish fry around. Shorts and sunglasses are a must.
D Me
$50 including tip For the two beers and 2 catfish baskets. The beer was good.
Nicole Chavez
Highly recommend! Our server Donna was amazing, the Grouper Ruben was incredible, THE BEST thing we ordered (most popular sandwich).
The lobster roll (2nd most popular) was not me or my grandmas favorite (tasted like imitation) but everything else we ordered was absolutely delicious (iced-tea, cajun crawfish, onion rings, and the fresh oysters).
Highly highly recommend this place, a must see if you are visiting Milwaukie and want to be near the river/waterfront.
Leandro Binuya
Wow! This is a hidden gem. No frills, but you get great food and service is wonderful. Definitely recommend!
Vance Mindermann
Good food and view is absolutely amazing! Me and my wife meet some friends here for drinks and appetizers. We watched the sun set over the water and had a great time. The customer service was perfect! We will definitely be back.
Darren Kress
Great location on the water with delicious oysters and nice beer selection, especially Milwaukee's Third Space Happy Place.
Aaron Kostuch
Always good food and great service. They have a really great choice of seafood, but also a mix for the land lovers too. Drinks are good and beer is cold. The spot is a great little hidden gem. Expect parking to be a bit of walk, but it's nice out in the summer, so its no big deal.
Susan Pientka
I had the most delicious Grouper fish fry since the Bahamas thanks Barnacle Bud's
Ashlynne Simonet
One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Bayview. The grouper fish fry is fantastic, great views of the river, and great service. Seriously the best fish fry I’ve ever had, and even better you can get it 7 days a week! Recently moved to Bayview and Barnacle Bud’s has already become a staple restaurant for us!!
Courtney Donnell
Spectacular little joint feels like an impromptu vacation. Try the Grouper Ruben and beware of the potent margaritas!
Reyna Perez
Me & my kids come here and the food is always on point they have small fun games and it’s fun good music great oysters it’s always a good time when I bring my kiddos it’s a hidden gem
Tim Braun
It was a little chaotic to get seated but once we had a table, it was a great experience! Great food! Everything was delicious. Recommend for anyone who hasn't eaten here.
Alberto Perez
Had the blood Mary with peel n eat shrimp. Good drink, good food, good service.
Cindilee Michalski
This is our to go place with friends and family!Great place for a great time!
Jordan Wade
My husband and I decided to explore Milwaukee for a few days. It’s really important to us to find authentic places to explore and eat. We were both very happy with our choice to eat at Barnacle Buds. We ordered the Crab Cakes and Grouper Reuben. They were delicious! The waitress was pleasant and very helpful. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Owen Krumenacher
They got a small menu but my goodness is their food insane. It's also in such a cool spot it gives off a Key west type vibe which makes the experience that much better. (I've been to the keys twice so i know the vibe lol)
Matthew Menart
It really is like stumbling into a *good* beach/waterfront bar somewhere tropical. We walked there from home (knowing they have a Marg special on Mondays) and jfc it feels like you're not supposed to be there until you see the entrance. 10/10 for the spooky anticipation, would traipse in again.
Well prepared and delicious food, and great service! We had oysters (M,W,F, Sat deliveries from what our server told us), and Grouper & Shrimp Po' Boys. All was delicious. Margs were 6 a piece (on Mondays) and good, strong af too.
Dustin Poth
Very nice atmosphere. We felt like we were on vacation. The grouper fish fry had a very thick, fried chicken like breading that completely took away from the fish. Wait staff was very friendly. If you Google map this address, it is going to take you to what looks like some abandoned buildings. Just drive through them and you'll find it.
Gabriella Quattrocchi
This is a great outdoor dining spot for summer! You can pull up your boat and stop for a quick bite! There are two bars with a variety of drinks to chose from and plenty of parking if you choose to drive. The food is decent - smaller menu, mostly seafood options. Good place for families and for a date night on the water!
Mona Lisa Battaglia
Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Our friend’s car was towed, as many do when you visit this place. Bayview seems to have an issue with many cars getting towed when visiting some restaurants. The waitress was on the defense and rude at first when we told her about the car getting towed. Later she showed some empathy and offered a drink. No need for any of our 12 person group to ever go back. No indoor seating on the 90 degree day.
Tyler Mason
I absolutely love this place. It is a beachy, laid-back atmosphere with vacation vibes and fun. Chris, was very accommodating when my family of 10 came strolling in near closing time (I know, bad customer etiquette). He was very informative, fun, and met our every need. I love this place and highly recommend it to everyone! Very fun to go to by boat.
S L
Awesome place, right on the river. Employees were very friendly, made us feel really welcome. Lobster salad was delicious. Best oysters I've had this side of New York City, even though the month did not end in an "r"!. Atmosphere is really fun. Will definitely go back again!
Michelle Mitchell
Purchased the catfish - fresh and hot but not seasoned properly
Mark Van Handel
Hidden from the road you have to look carefully but it's a ton of fun with lots of outdoor seating. If it's sprinkling you can still come out; there's plenty of canopy to keep you dry and it's less busy. If you have a boat there's docks as well.
Aaron M Mills
This little gem is tucked away in a place that will make you feel like you took a wrong turn. You did not. The food is delicious and fast and the views of the water and city are quite good. It has the vibe of the gulf coast transplanted to the shores of lake Michigan, and I have no complaints about that. My wife and I split some fried clams, steamed oysters, and a salad and walked away saying we should have left some food on the plate. Worth it.
Tom Hoffman
We celebrated our daughters birthday. Waiter made the meal. He made sure we had all we wanted. Bad weather but if it was nice it looked like it would be a fun place
Karilee B
Went there tonight for dinner. Vibe is cool, waterfront bar and grille with a Florida - beach theme. But…look up. Cobwebs and spiderwebs hanging all over the place - just imagine what might be falling into your food. Just get a shop vac and vacuum the rafters once a week, idk, it can’t be that difficult? Plus they charge $10 for a TINY rum punch cocktail in a plastic cup that is mostly just OJ and pineapple juice. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries for $16 and they added another 25c for pickles, 50c for a tomato slice, and 25c for lettuce. Dinner for two was $68. A crab cake sandwich w fries, chicken sandwich w fries, appetizer of onion rings, two tiny watered down cocktails and two beers. Also the waitress never checked on us mid-meal -we would’ve liked some ice water as we had finished the cocktails. When she came at end of meal I asked what beers they have and she stared at me like I was speaking a foreign language. So strange. I like the vibe so I’ll prob go back but next time I’ll sit outside by the water to avoid the cobwebs and just get a beer and an appetizer. Def not worth $68 for that food. Now if I’d been there the day Giannis showed up, I’d prob feel it was all worth it! Again, this place always used to be one of my fav restaurants in MKE area. They just need to clean up the rafters, add more rum to the punch, and train their waitresses better.
Jill Kirchner
Grouper fish fry was amazing, as was the garlic mussels!
David Szeflinski
One of Milwaukee's hidden gems. No flare, no hype, just great seafood! "Hiding" behind an industrial section, right on the river, a very relaxing dining experience. One of my favorite summertime spots.
connie tarbah
I stopped there over the weekend and had the best crab cakes and grouper. The atmosphere is outside and very friendly. Best margaritas as well. Will be sure to go back again and again
Jean Verban
Loved it. Great food, service and atmosphere.
Christopher Walter
Take a friend who has been there. The location is unique. The food was wonderful.
Sydnee Sernoe
A really cool place to be outside and have good food and drinks. On the Milwaukee River (I think) or Lake Michigan. Recently added on to their structure. Can eat inside as well if so desired. I believe they now have music outside as well but you would have to call to check. All-in-all an awesome place to have lunch/dinner or just cocktails and enjoy the surroundings.
Emily Liefke
First you'll have to travel through the swirly twirly alleys past the corner of "this can't be right" before you'll arrive at the hidden gem that is Barnacle Buds. This magical riverfront seafood shack is in its 29th year of dishing up tasty dishes and drinks served with a smile. You'll want to be shore and bring your phone so you can snag some quality snaps for the gram and shoot your friends some deck pics : ) Water you waiting for? Seas the day and head on over to Barnacle Buds for a magical night.
Terry Hinz
Great atmosphere. Felt like I was in the Florida Keys. Food and service we're good. My hubby and I were able to dock our boat after cruising the rivers. It was a great last stop to a fun day. Thanks Buds!!
Patti Klainot
Always a fun experience with Key West vibe. Everyone happy with their food. Lots of picnic table seating, which is not the most comfortable. Right on the KK river. Hard to find if you are coming by car. Limited boat docking.
Frank Heinrich
Really unique spot on the river, almost feels like you're not in Milwaukee at all with the nautical feel, kitschy wood, and metal signs. You go here more for the experience and to show someone a hidden local spot over going for the food.
That being said, their food is solid, have only had positive food experiences. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it.
Kevin Noel
Had a great time. Bartenders and staff were all very nice. Wife had the crab cakes and said she loved them. I had the brisket burger, it was good but for the price would have liked some fries with it.
Michael B
Just the perfect blend of casual and whimsy. Reminds me of one of those novelty seafood restaurants from road trips as a kid! I brought my 4 year old here for a fish fry. Excellent food, great prices, and you can't beat the fun ambience. Good service, too, though all service in Milwaukee might be hit and miss. But i had a great server here.
Rosaida Walker
Talk about hidden gems in the city! What an amazing spot! My boyfriend wanted fish fry & I wanted to enjoy a few drinks on a patio. This place was a win-win! The grouper was yummy, staff friendly & fun, & the old guy from the wanted poster had a joke and smile for every customer! 😉 Definitely coming back again! …
Megan Thompson
A kitschy fun and breezy little beach bar tucked away on the Milwaukee water way. Hard to find, harder to leave. Boat accessible but very limited docking spots. Good drinks, awesome coconut shrimp and the grouper Reuben is really something special.
Scott Abramczyk
This place was great, outdoors seating right on the river, seemed like I was in key West.
Alyssa W
This was a stop on our pedal boat tour. Only here for 15 minutes but nice bar tender and a great garbage punch shot!
Stephen G
Always great food, service and atmosphere! The Crab Cakes are a MUST HAVE! Made fresh, not frozen bar food. The staff here are fun and you can tell they enjoy working there. Whether looking for a cocktail while cruising on a boat or lookin for a good meal, this truly is one of Milwaukee's worst kept secrets!
Doug Kinart
Very unique atmosphere along the river freshest fish I ever had also had clam stripes and we're perfect not rubbery everything tasted great not oily. We ate at the back bar and the bartender Bobby kept us entertained and are glasses full. This was my first time there and I will defiantly be back with friends.
Kayleigh Avello
Love this place! Super chill and really good food. A hidden MKE gem 💎 …
Kyle McHugh
SHHHHHHH DONT TELL ANYONE! This is Milwaukee's best hidden gem. Getting here makes you feel like you are trespassing but boy is it worth it. Chris was out server and had the best jokes and stories. I always go here on hot days. Nothing like looking at nice boats and enjoying hot weather and great food.
Dan Irvine
Pretty dope. Good spot on the river. Good drinks. We got a table super quick even though we had a big group. Oysters were a pretty tight bh.
Mary Spadafora
Quaint little restaurant hidden away by the lake. Friendly atmosphere. Casual attire. Good food. Can get alcoholic beverages as well as soft drinks. Can arrive there by vehicle or boat! Sassy little sayings on their menu. A light hearted fun place to go for food or drinks.
Chris Smyczek
Quick visit on an early Saturday. Girlfriend had the BYO bloody Mary and I had a special drink which kicked back to a river fund, both tasty and cool for a hot day. I ordered three oysters, one of which was quite small, and when I mentioned it to our waiter Chris he said he noticed that and brought me another one! What excellent service! Oysters were quite fresh and tasty. We split an app of crab cakes, two nicely fried thick cakes with a spicy mayonnaise and red cabbage for a colorful garnish. All was tasty, and with great service and seats right on the inlet from Lake Michigan (we saw a barge reversing!) we had a great time and plan to return for a deeper dive into the menu.
Elizabeth Holis
This was at the tail end of our MKE day trip, but the time we spent here was very memorable. Crab Cakes were awesome as well as the lobster roll. Staff was great and friendly. I love stories of why/when/how/history of places like this start and the server told us a great story. It was dark and raining when we got there but I cant wait to see this place again from the water and daylight. Have the fun was trying to find this place. What a great spot!
Eric H
Felt like Florida in Milwaukee. Very nice decor and shack feel right on the water. Service and Grooper sandwich were excellent...same goes with the Vodka drink of the month which $1 went to river preservation. Will definitely return.
Ron Farina
Awesome little place. Good food drinks and service I'll definitely go back
Connie Elmer
We love eating here, especially when we can sit on the deck. The food is delicious and a casual menu. If you're lucky on the weekends they have entertainment on the deck also. We try to go often during the warm weather.
Leigh Kalmus
Friendly staff, Food was good, Not great over priced
jim wachowiak
Delicious food. We come here all the time for dinner on our boat. New happy hour 4-7 with $3 craft beer and half price apps. The grouper Reuben is amazing! Only gripe is boat parking is very limited when they let their yacht tenants hog the docks (they are losing business due to this).
Denise Fetting
Can't beat the views and the food and drinks and delicious too!
Marie Hayes
Great ambience, cute place. One of the few places in Milwaukee you can sail your boat to! Friendly staff. I had fried smelt, which was a bit heavy on the batter for the numerous small pieces. Fries are great. My son had coconut shrimp which seemed like large pieces, & he really enjoyed it. I'd like to go back & try the catfish next time. Prices are very reasonable!
Bonnie Curry
Great place to chill on the river and get some great food and a drink with a friend. Donna..I believe...was our awesome waitperson....Im looking forward to another pirate punch. Definitely worth finding this worst best kept secret...
David Nowak
Great food & atmosphere! Friendly staff and great specialty drink options!
Danny DSquared
Pretty good food, they didnt have beer on tap and menu was confusing. Great service though
Ms.Z
The waitress was outstanding! The food was lacking for sure. She had to send back my mozzarella stocks 3 times till they were actually melted. Being in the water here is so nice!
Erin Van Derven
The drinks and atmosphere are better than the food, imo. I had the shrimp Po boy and the ratios were off. Would definitely go again but order something else. Try the dumpster punch!
St. M
Great coconut shrimp. But they should give more shrimp for the price. And more sugar free drink options like fresh lemonade where the customer can add their own sugar or splenda.
Ann S
Grouper tacos w red cabbage, & spicey mayo. The Best!!
My hubby loved his grilled grouper sandwich.
Abby our server was awesome!
Timothy “TJ” Mueller
Great atmosphere right on the river. The outside bar is the best way spend a summer afternoon or evening. Get a bucket of beers and enjoy. If you’re feeling hungry the coconut shrimp are crispy and delicious.
Max Flanagan
Great restaurant, have been coming for years. I have to say, having been to different islands all around the Caribbean this is a spitting image of that atmosphere, minus the views of course! Great food (tad bit pricey), excellent service, wonderful-laid back atmosphere all in all it is a hidden gem in Milwaukee. Pulling in for the first time you may feel your GPS led you astray, but bare with it and once you park your car between a few warehouses and make it through the chain-link fence you feel you have walked into a St. Croix USVI / Jimmy Buffet kind of place in a hip, up and up-and-coming part of MKE. Love Barnacles, have been coming for years and plan to continue.
Nick W
The drinks are good (albeit a little expensive) and the atmosphere is nice. This is definitely a bar/restaurant you want to visit when it's nice out so you can sit outside. The only downside is it can be very unclear who the wait staff is since they don't wear uniforms. It was confusing finding someone to seat us since no one was at the entrance to take our names.
Vanessa Rauguth
I love their crab cakes and lobster roll. The view from the patio of the bay makes this a great place to go on a date too. If you love seafood this is one of the better places in Milwaukee.
Luke Urevig
Was just out boating on lake Michigan and we decided to grab lunch. Found barnacle Bud's on Google maps. It was so cool to be able to just pull up to the dock and tie off right at the restaurant. ( Make sure you dock next to the restaurant because next door is private docks) Bob was our bartender and he was a hoot. Even though we're from MN he didn't give us too hard of a time. I had the grouper PO boy and it was perfect. The guys I was with had the special ( grouper tacos) and definitely worth it. The bloody mary's we're awesome. Definitely recommend to just about anything. Broad menu. Good cooks. Fun spot on the river just inside Milwaukee harbor.
MrRuHua
Good sea food in a unique place. Very positive experience. Will go back for sure.
Georges Hanna
The place is beautiful and hidden lol...water/ river view is amazing ....as far as food...not so good ...this was my first time there ...the chicken sandwich was amazing but my wife's fried fish wasn't good. For $15 it was one fried piece and hardly any meat ...was mostly fried crums. My wife was disappointed. Overall it's a beautiful place ...we'll be back for sure. Check the pictures of the river and skies ....beautiful nature :)
Vee Bell
No other place like it. You feel like you're driving through warehouses until you spot the dry docks and boat stacks. Once there it's a mix of dive bar, sailor delight, delicious fish shop & high volume outdoor bar.
I've never found a place I love to watch the boats more while having a beer.
Laurel Ivy
We went to Barnacle Buds while traveling to Milwaukee. As a current Florida resident I would say that our experience at Barnacle Buds was on par with those that we've had on the Intracoastal in Port Canaveral and other great water locations. The food was great, the drinks were strong and we had amazing service and views. Definitely an asset to Milwaukee and we're looking forward to stopping in our next trip.
B D
Fun place for dinner and drinks after spending some time on the water.
B. Rogers
Went a couple weeks ago. Had to call to get directions because I was behind a bunch old creepy warehouses (by myself) so I was sure this was not the location, but it was. Wanted oysters but they no longer serve them. Got crab cakes and they were good. Also go clam chowder and yuck yuck yuck. Taste straight out of a can. My husband arrived and order coconut shrimp which Weren’t bad they just tasted like the frozen kind they sell at the grocery store. I prob wouldn’t choose to go back here. I’m being generous 2 stars ⭐️ for the crab cakes and one more for the friendly server.
Travis M.
Food an atmosphere were great! Loved it! Definitely recommend it for an evening out in nice weather. They have docks along the edge of the restaurant, I'm not certain of the policies but I'd give them a call if you want to stop in while out on your boat.
Dana Pawlak
Good food, good service. Fun atmosphere. The water was a bit polluted which tik away from the ambiance. But had a great time and would definitely go again. Off the beaten path, so follow your gps past the warehouses. It's back there, trust the directions.
Amy S
Cute hidden gem on the river with lots of our door seating. Food is mostly seafood/fish, though there are burgers and chicken. The remoulade is delicious, as is the pirate punch. Staff were good about it wearing masks during the pandemic.
Joe Staton
A solid performance. Its easy to forget you're not near the ocean. Great atmosphere, good food. Accommodated a group of 13. I had the grouper po'boy. Wife hit a homerun with the brisket burger. I'd probably hit the riblet special next time.
Larry
Got to go there at least once it is a unique place along the river. Food isn't bad. The very low worn-out rough picnic benches should be replaced with more up-to-date decent seating.
Dee B.
Firs time going there looked sketchy (it's a little tucked away) but the food was amazing and service was casual and friends. Would highly recommend for sea food.
Catie O'Donnell
Fun bar tucked away in an industrial area. Loved the beach themed atmosphere and my cocktail was absolutely delicious. A definite hidden gem!
Lynne Bialk
Outdoor patio area on the river. Unique decorations both inside and out. Bathroom fine. Apps and sandwich yummy and reasonably priced. Very attentive hostess and wait staff. Just a bit difficult to find and park...
Jamie Williams
LOVE this place. Living on the west side of Lake Michigan we don’t get to enjoy the sunset over the water. But here you get the water (river) and the sunset! Food has always been delicious.
Eric
Limited menu this time of year was understandable but disappointing.
Tim Droster
I love the place but the fish was overcooked.
Carla Abbott
We uber’ed to this lovely place bc it wasn’t close to our hotel. Well worth it. The grilled grooper was delicious on top of salad. French fries were not greasy at all. The service was great. (Thank you Donna!) Highly recommend. Right on the water. It’s a must visit.
Debra Fisher
One of my favorite places to eat in Milwaukee! Great food, drinks, and waterfront atmosphere. I'm from Florida, and it's a little slice of home right here in Wisconsin! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Ps: You can get here by boat, and park at the dock.
Pps: NOT a big place, so may be challenging to dine with large parties. Most of the dining is outdoors (*only* outdoor dining while social distancing in effect). It is literally right on the water with docks on two sides, so use caution if bringing small children. Hidden treasure, and a bit of an adventure to find it, but it's so WORTH IT.
equalsksquared
A little hole in the wall eatery right on the river's edge. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. 11/10 crabcakes, would devour again. It's a little hard to find but once you get there, the experience is fantastic, and you'll definitely never forget it!
CharlieFnBronson
We try to eat here every time we visit MKE. Recommend the grouper.
Douglas Rogers
Nothing about the food or drinks is exceptional, but combined with the atmosphere and a great staff the experience leaves you wanting to return daily. Pro-tip: Do not bring children.
Precision Asphalt Sealers
We came down to MKE for business and stopped in for a drink, and it was the most amazing, laid-back atmosphere around. We LOVED the food, drinks, and company. Thank you, Guppy, for that great Irish hospitality.
john langford
Milwaukee hidden gem. This hide away has a relaxed feel on the water. The food is really good. The shrimp po boy and some great spice. The grouper po boy had a huge fillet of grouper. The jars of beer were excellent. The service was also fast and friendly. This will be one of my go to summer places. It is worth finding.
Dan Lozoff
Great beer list, fantastic Grouper, and excellent service... Kristy is always the best!
Lupe Ornelas
Love this place! I have had the best service & the food is always great. One day we spent the whole day there enjoying music, food, & drinks from the best bartender. One of those places that is hidden but awesome to experience....
Surprised to see people rate so low as I ALWAYS have had a great experience. Some low rate seemed from picky individuals that expect a high standard of service & always complain. If you one of those people please stay away.
Heather R.
Fun place to go. It's located away from the busy area of downtown Milwaukee which makes it feel like you are not in a big town but someplace you would find on a beach. They are one of the few places you can get smelt, which was very tasty, if you like fish. You can also dock your boat close which makes it's a great place to visit during the summer months.
Derek Stackhouse
It’s been 20 years and it was cool back then - Now it’s Awesome!!! Kayaked from Pier Marquette today and had great Margs and fantastic food. Service was great too !!!
Suzette Aussem
The food, service and performance was great
Mark Pawlarczyk
Excellent food and great service from Tim!🎸🍴🍻 …
Celia Rodriguez
Delicious lunch!! We’ll be back again!
Katie T
For what it is, this place isn't bad at all. I've heard it described as the "Margaritaville of Milwaukee" and I can't say I disagree. My favorite thing though is the build your own Bloody Mary bar at brunch. And the coconut shrimp. I'm always in for coconut shrimp.
p.s. read the whole menu, there are some real gems in there.
Richard Terrones
Awesome grilled grouper sandwich, very good bloody mary. Party of 9 and waitress Jamie was very pleasant and efficient. Most or our party had perch dinner and NO complaints. Excellent atmosphere.
shawn geino
Fast and professional waitstaff. Food served hot and fast. Great view of river.
scott roman
Always Loved this place, been going here for about 20 years... New Margarita prices are a bit insane as well as All the Specialty Cocktails, but Whatever, people know where to find it & they are popular now
Christine Smith
Mondays taco specials are usually excellent. Today I told the waiter that they were very spicy hot. He insisted that they usually make them that way but I have been ordering them for a long time and they usually aren't that spicy. Maybe I will order something else next time!
J Peters
Grouper was amazing!! My husband had the grilled clams, said they were very good. Love the atmosphere on the patio!
modern man
Awesome food. They were crazy busy but our server provided excellent service. A must visit if you are in milwaukee.
Sydnee Sernoe
This place makes u feel ur not in Kansas anymote....the good is great. I had a burger and a Bloody Mary. Lots of goodies in my drink. The only small thing is the bartender took our order and even though it was after the lunch rush, it took 4ever 4 our food. Still give it a solid 4.
Joseph bodi
Good burger, got food quickly, unique memorabilia on wall and ceiling but major dust. Waitress just ok, took her forever just to bring us the bill. However she was pleasant.
Tamara Ostling
Food was good as always sadly they have taken my favorite beer Michelob ultra off menu. One of my main reasons for going since it's so hard to find in Milwaukee.
Kim K
I'm sure it would have been a great place to visit had the weather been nicer. It was cold and windy the day we were there but the atmosphere would have been amazing for a warm day. Ahi tuna was fantastic and a very large sizable portion. Everybody enjoyed their meals and there was 7 of us. even a bloody mary bar.
Tom McSweeney
A neat, rustic, very casual marina bar well off the beaten path. Crab cakes are good and entree portions are large. The hostess was very friendly and quick with our orders.
Krystal Kekula
Location, location, location! Amazing atmosphere right on the water! Fun place to have a cold beer during the summer. Food is ok, a little on the greasy side. I believe they still do a bloody mary bar on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
shannon h
I go here for the outdoor atomosphere. The problem is they have a waitstaff that can't seem to handle their tables. If you dare order a drink from the bar because you obviously don't want to wait 20 minutes to be served they will sternly remind you to order from waitstaff. We wouldn't need to go to the bar if the waitstaff could handle the tables. I get that they need money too, but you can't fault peoples thirst. I've run into the issue twice so it's almost like I'd rather perch on wall than table it.
sharon rafalski
The atmosphere is just so wonderful it's too bad winter is coming but then again next time it'll be nice wish I had a boat that I can drive up there and go
Jeannine Volbright
Cool atmosphere on the water. Awesome spicy bloody marys and the best crabcakes I've ever had! My husband loved the chorizo poutine. The oysters were okay.
Pat Haggis
Kayaked here from the put in near the Hoan...can haul the boats up some grass at the end of the docks. Don't drink too much yo get back in them lol. Great vibe, great food!
Craig Burbey
To say its off the beaten path is an understatement. Thats part of the charm. I have only been here for beverages with friends at their riverside patio. Both the patio and bar are inviting spaces. I am going to take another reviewers recommendation and try the grouper ruben with a marg or two.....sounds interesting.
Henry
Had the grooper fish fry and crab cake appetizer, both were delicious
Matt Kirk
Fun spot to go to when hanging on Lake Michigan.
Mari Calzd
Not enough staff for lunch rush
But food was good
Theresa Youngs
Great location and service. Food is meh
Tony Giron
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good fish fry.
Emanuel Begos
Milwaukee's Hidden Gem, go down a industrial Ally and this little taste of paradise pops right up our beautiful Lake Michigan . The most delicious grouper sandwich ever
Paul Polewaczyk
Cool hidden spot on the river, it's accessible by boat if you have one on the lake. Driving you'll find it seems like it shouldn't be where it is, but it's there. Decent bar fare with seafood options and beer/cocktail choices.
Cindy Brenard
Great hidden treasure of Milwaukee! If you can find it - go! Summer is the best time to go boat watching! Hundreds of people! And the wait staff was very kind, helpful and happy!!!! Food is excellent! Tuna sandwich, grouper fishfry, grilled shrimp salad! Yummy! Hurry before the snow falls!
Sofia Ruiz
went on a Saturday afternoon in June, it was packed! Drinks are moderately priced and food was good. I'd go back but it's not my new favorite or anything. The location is definitely hard to find.
Robert Hacker
Very busy, took over an hour to get our food. And that was after sitting 15 min for service and having to ask for a server to get us a menu.
We actually had to ask staff 3 times for things we'd ordered or asked for with the order.
Christopher Walter
We will return.
Welcoming, Great Menu.
I need to return to try more.
Shane M.
Excellent food at this hidden gem right on the water. Great views of the sunset if you come around that time of day. The prices were a little high, but worth it if you come every once in a while
Dawn Shipley
The grouper reuben was divine. The weather was perfect and we loved sitting outside at the picnic tables. A little tricky to find on our first visit, but now we know for when we return!
Jennifer Marie
Fantastic food and drinks! The grouper is particularly excellent :-)
J Henry
Hidden gem on the river. Boats, boat drinks,
buckets of beer and great food.
Levi Vial
Chose the Bloody Mary Bar, it was ok but not worth $10. The pulled pork sandwich with slaw was excellent. I stayed entertained watching the giant forklift put in and remove boats from the water.
John Z. Jr
Casual and fun. Great place for a drink and meal on a warm day.
John Shaw
If you head in for lunch on a beautiful Saturday and don't have anything else going on, there is a distinct possibility you may have dinner there, too. The atmosphere and people are all awesome, and everyone has a great time. It's easy to let the day get away from you here.
Wendean Marsh
The food and atmosphere is good. Take cash because they won't do separate checks and our cards got mixed up.
Rex Nelson
Cooler by the lake. Bucket of Modelitos hit the spot. Food was great. Moonrise was gorgeous. Olive was all of that.
Vania Schneider
One of my very favorite places! Bloody bar on Sundays raw oysters and seafood like down south... Outside patio area and staff are great! Feels like a big southern cookout whenever we are there!
Shenoa Townsend
Great, must visit place in Milwaukee! We will definitely be back. Friendly service, cold beer, great view and people watching. Enjoyed watching the boats get loaded and unloaded from water.
Jeff Bara
Fun. A must see. Was concerned with food prices when reading the menu but when the amount of GOOD food came, I left happy and full. Would like to see better drink deals daily, as I would stay longer and buy more. :)
Nicki Urbanio
Beautiful atmosphere makes you feel like your in Key West.
Lisa Neumann
Great places to stop for a cold one amongst your summer activities. A bit overpriced on the food, but it's paying for the atmosphere. Boardwalk on the Milwaukee River, usually has a 1 man band playing fun beach (Jimmy Buffet) type music.
Mike Zirbes
Fun dockside. Love it and will go. Again
Kenneth Stier
Awesome patio scene. Where else can you have dockside service from your boat? Awesome seafood inspired menu.
Bill Marrone
Lobster roll was ok. St Paul's in the 3rd ward is better, just because of the bread that's used. Other than that, oysters great! Definitely go back.
Casey Melcher
Fun place to eat. Good food. Great environment. You can arrive by boat or land. Good value as well. There can occasionally be a wait.
Scott Davis
Barnacle Bud's is always a memorable experience. My wife and I brought a guest from Japan. Maybe a little risky, considering the quality of seafood in Japan. My wife had the grooper fish and fries (breaded), I had the grilled grooper sandwich w slaw, and our guest had the spicy grooper po boy. All were served quickly, and very good. Finished with key lime pie. Always worth it!
Dustin Schneider
Damn it I love this place. Everytime I come here it's a good time. Food is pretty good, staff is usually on point, view is nice. There are multiple patios and pathways to take a walk. Great place.
Rebecca Kiefer
THE BEST spot for a Friday fish fry!
Maia Jaroch
The servers are hillarious, the food is great, and the location is so cool. You can watch a crane lift boats up yo 3 stories high, and the river is right there to look at as a cool view.
Joe Unger
The grouper sandwich, which was recommended, was incredible!!!
Luis Manuel Martinez
a small but nice place and its excellent menu... and the girl who attends very friendly...👌🏻 …
Philip Gissen
hit this place up the first week it opened years ago. I love bars and restaurants located in obscure, industrial locations. The look on people's faces, as you wind through back alleys, in between warehouses and factories, is precious. "Where the hell are you taking me?" If the establishment is on water, the experience is even better.
Barnacle Bud's is located in an old industrial neighborhood near the newly hip enclave of Bayview. In my "glory years," Bayview wasn't too hip, which added to the allure of Barnacle Bud's. Smack dab on the KK River,(Kinnekinnick?) this is where the venerable SKIPPER BUD'S was located, a popular boat selling establishment, and diners are still surrounded by dozens of dry docked boats. A boardwalk, along this industrial waterway, leads you to the bar/restaurant.
Location, location, location, is what Barnacle Bud's is all about. Sandwiches are good, not great. Drinks have alcohol in them. Service depend on who you get and what mood they're in. Our pregnant server was not having a good day. Personally, I don't blame her. However, neither her mood nor the downpour dampened our good time. Surrounded by good friends, I drank, ate, and laughed. An afternoon at Barnacle Bud's reminded me why I love Milwaukee and Wisconsin. This just doesn't happen in Utah. Someone would need to climb, hike, bike or do something active. Hanging out with good friends, just drinking and being stupid is not readily acceptable in the Beehive state. You don't know what you're missing.
Kevin Sieger
Just about every entree on the menu is deep fried so not a place to eat if your GF or eat Paleo. Nice atmosphere, might be a fun place on a warm night, it was a cold night when we were there.
Tom Geszvain
I love coming here ,but waited 20 minutes to be seated. Waitress very busy. Could probably need another person. Saturday mid afternoon, I get it. Otherwise everything was great . Will come again.
John Schmidt
Great Grouper Tacos and drinks. Service was friendly and prompt. Perfect setting for a perfect afternoon.
Amy God Bless
Chris, bartender- hilarious, pours a superior cocktail, awesome conversation wirh an outstanding view of Milwaukee River and downtown. Outdoor seating has nautical, beautiful decorative surroundings..... a perfect night
Todd Bleecker
Delightful. Experience. Wonderful ruff-age.
Brian Klipstein
Awesome place to go in the city but yet feel like you're somewhere in the Everglades or the Florida Keys. Food was pretty decent, but definitely more of a fan of the atmosphere. Great place for beers.
Eric Anderson
A great rustic retreat on the water. Kind of hard to find. Limited menue, but very good food. Smelt fry was a real treat!
Char Tumi
Nothing more to say but EXCEPTIONAL, Food, drink waiter. All excellent. Keep it up
Trish Finerty
First time, finding a place to park boat was tricky in the dark. Waitress was ok, food and drinks were good but the feel of the place was what you go for. Like being in the Keys!
Javier Rodriguez
The ambiance is incredible.
Nothing else like it in Milwaukee.
The grouper fry was juicy and delicious!
blaze2828
Been going here for years. Never a bad time. One of my favorite places in the entire metro area (when the weather is nice! although I've dined inside on not so nice days too).
John Hoeppner
Always fun. Good bar food. More seating outside than inside. Some of the wait staff can be a bit flakey, but not so much so that I would downgrade from 5stars.
Bryan Dawursk
Great food and fun atmosphere.
Alex B
Ordered several cocktails and a fish sandwich to go and was very impressed by how fast and quick the service was! And the waitress greeted us at the table and offered all the specials and suggestively up sold several items to us!
Scott Cherek
Great place. Love the vibe. Had Grouper Ruben sandwich - yummy. My daughter had salmon BLT said it was good too. We'll be back.
Sarah P
Unique restaurant/bar on the river, great service, yummy burgers. The Dumpster Punch is a must try! Drinks are a bit pricey.
TECKY BEE
Came to see the band, had a great Milwaukee evening listening to the Reggie band and having a few Red Stripes. Whenever I come here, feels like I'm hanging out in the Florida Keys. Didn't have food here tonight, but it always been good in the past.
Mandi BP
Always a favorite! Clean area, beautiful views of the water, terrific food and fun waitstaff. We will be back!
Coco Gralluzzo
An amazing and fun experience, fantastic food, and a great escape in Milwaukee!
Josue Aldape (Jay)
Great place to enjoy family time and drinks... Food makes you like your on the ocean!... I'll go back again and again
Rachael Mann
You pay for the experience. We got good parking, seated fast, good service. I had the lobster roll, my only complaint was that the roll was not toasted.
Mr. G
Lovely location on the water, great food and service, excellent drinks! They have entertainment, too! What more can you want? Highly recommended!
Wendi Phillips
Love Barnacle Buds! How can you not! Awesome atmosphere, great drinks, outstanding as being wings and you meet some pretty awesome people along the way! Cheers! Welcome aboard!
Daniel Bozarth
Seafood was decent, above average for the area. Slaw was a bit vinegary for me but that's a personal thing. View was great, actually on the lakefront.
Tanya Kloeffler
One of the best outdoor patios. Great drinks specials and decent fish fry and coconut shrimp. If its nice out plan on waiting for a table.
EJ Spencer
Super cool atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Great place for a beer, date, and--of course--food! Get the crab cake burger!
Holly Rose
A True Gem of the City of Milwaukee,Incredible casual environment for Sailors and us commoners tucked behind some buildings. The Food is every bit as good!I love the Crab cakes& Shrimp especially......Bravo!
Mihai Smutneac
Did not expect such a good atmosphere, service and food as it's located in quite an odd location....you drive through some factory parking lots and enter through a gate. But that's what adds to its charm - wouldn't hesitate to return again.
Becca Sangle
The food was so tasty and staff was just what you would expect at a beach side bar: lovely, fun loving, and sarcastic, all with a love of alcohol. I want to become a regular and get to know each one of them and hear all their stories.
Kelly Ackmann
I usually love this hidden gem, but the last time I visited both my food and cocktail were pretty bad. I did not finish either. I still enjoyed sitting and eating along the river.
Jeff Ganger
There is nothing else like it in Milwaukee. Seaside shack vibe perfect for lazy summer afternoons and evenings. Get the grouper. You won't find it many other places in town and the Grouper Po Boy is solid.
JIMI
Really great place nice and calm the people there are fantastic there's a great setting and it feels like your family plus the food is delicious
Laura Smith
Crab cakes are the best around and the coconut shrimp are delicious!
Rigga Frank
Cold beer end and my new favorite place in Milwaukee
John Holtz
The food is good but can be hit or miss. You come here for the atmosphere though and IT cannot be beat. I love sitting there on a hot day drinking and eating oysters.
Amanda Laur
After Paddling for three Days across Lake Michigan, It appeared Before me Just like a place Jimmi Buffet may have written about in a song. Ok might have been three hours, But the first time I came here was by Boat, and I didn't know one could arrive by car. A fun place to sit back and eat oysters or watch the fireworks even. But Don't Chill too long at a Table if Its busy, Make room for others, and grab a seat on the dock maybe?!
Staci Gee
This is definitely a Hidden Gem! They have incredible drinks and wonderful views. If you have a boat you can dock right up to it as well.
Teresa Snow (Tee Snow)
Delightful pub on the water. Great outdoor seating. Good drinks! Try the crableg artichoke dip.
Peggy Cavender
Our waitress was not overly friendly. The food is mediocre, other then, the shrimp was very good.
Matt Zajac
Great place for drinks and light food. Nice location on the water. Hard to find unless you know about it, it is a big plus for some.
Christianne Varela
Fun place. Friendly staff. Pleasant riverside patio with social distancing. Crab cake sandwich was huge and yummy!
Tasha Sorenson
Great little place on the water. The inside is a bit small, but their patio is where it's at anyway. Great place for happy hour. Staff is wonderful too.
Hue Schlegel
Great hideaway on the river. We felt like we were in the Florida Keys. The service and our Grouper meal was sensational! Loved it.
Nicholas T Ashley
Location and atmosphere is the key here, imagine an old florida keys shack bar transplanted to the dirty riverside of a former industrial part of town, the grouper reuben is the best offering imo, beer is a bit pricey and service can be spotty and sometimes just plain rude, be prepared to wait a while for seating and then get yelled at by the staff for standing literally anywhere. Like a bootycall with your ex, worth the abuse and disappointment once and a while for the view.
Tom Neuhaus
Always have had good food here. Nice atmosphere and friendly wait staff
Elizabeth Gallagher
Great atmosphere. It's my best friend's favorite place to eat and they never disappoint. The fish is lovely
Nathan Pheney
Nice spot for a drink. Had the crab cakes and reuben grouper sandwich. Both were ok. But I'd come back
Vishal Varma
Amazing cod fish fry, nice outdoor seating, although the wind can be quite harsh at times.
John Munoz (J.J.)
Super cool vibe with awesome view of the Milwaukee river, because you're sitting right on it, and the drive through the old south east industrial quarter sets off the The Experience unlike any other. 😎💯 …
Mary Burkee
I was happy that this place was open April 1, Easter Sunday. Sunny outside but cold. Warm and friendly on the inside. Good service and a nice break from the busy holiday.
Sharon Cole
Catfish was fried great but the fish was slightly fishy. Only allowed to eat outside and was not even allowed to walk through resturante to go to bathroom
Chris Hartung

What a find! Needed a quick dinner before a concert and this place was perfect. Casual dining, great summer vibe. Jimmy Buffet would be at home here.
Craig R
The food is good, the beer is a little pricey. Unique setting makes this worth a visit. Seating is not the most comfortable.
Kari Geline Haese
I love going to Barnacle Buds, the food is good. However, the scenery is being torn down for condos across the river. Not their fault, but I enjoyed that.
Brad Winkler
Great food, great service. Completley out of the way.
A new favorite place to eat and drink!
Danti Skoczek
Pleasant outdoor dining on the river.
Derek Robinson
Had the Cod fish fry basket and enjoyed it, not to greasy plus rye bread, Cole saw, and fries paired with a lakefront IPA. Awesome. cheers
Robert Mentecki
Nice, relaxing place on river. Nice drinks and decent food. Beer should be colder and service should be more efficient. Still fun
