Reviews of Silvio's Italian Restaurant
The restaurant is in a good location but there is limited parking. We were greeted immediately by the hostess. Although we did not have a reservation, she found a table for us by the window. Our waiter arrived almost immediately and pointed out the specials for dinner. My wife and I ordered one of the specials, Chilean sea bass, and split it. There is a charge of $4 to split a plate. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and was scrumptious. However, the complimentary bread was burnt (see picture) at the bottom. A restaurant of this caliber should not have served this bread.
What a fantastic birthday dinner. We went to Silvio's and had a great time. We ordered bruschetta to share as an appetizer, Ziti ala Vodka, Aglio e Olio and Tiramisu + Lemoncello cake for desserts. All in all, a nice way to celebrate.
We were welcomed by a very friendly hostess.
No reservation, but after a drink at the bar they had a table ready for us.
The Italian food we ordered was really good,
one of the best pasta dishes I've had so far in the USA.
Silvio, the owner, came over to make sure everything was satisfactory and talked to us for a while. He is a very friendly person. His pink outfit tied it all together.
Service was swift and friendly.
Finally made it to Silvio’s!
First of all, the service was absolutely impeccable. It was a very busy Friday night, but we were still very well taken care of. Our server, Ryan, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Silvio came out to check on us multiple times throughout our meal, and as visited every other table as well.
Second, the food. 🤤All the food. There’s complimentary bread which was quite good. We started with antipasto and it was a perfect starter. My guy had a Caesar salad and I had a grilled romaine salad. Both were phenomenal. For our main course, I had the aglio e olio with shrimp, which was a perfect savory blend of garlic and red pepper spice. He got the special, which was actually a grilled ribeye topped with grilled onions and mushrooms, garlic whipped potatoes and grilled corn on the cob. Silvio said “I don’t do steaks, but my chef wanted to do ribeye, so I did.” And it was delicious! The special also came with an espresso crème brûlée that was to die for. We had espresso to drink with dessert as well.
Long story short, recommend this hidden gem in the heart of Saint Matthew’s. Make a reservation, it was packed and Silvio said it’s normally even more busy than tonight.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Silvio's consistently ranks in the top 3 Italian restaurants in Louisville for me. The chicken parm and baked ziti are some of the best I've had.
Silvio's was a nice intimate venue for our date night. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious; you must try the Shrimp Polenta, and Baked Ziti! We also enjoyed the Beet Salad and Grilled Romaine Salad.
I am blown away by my experience last night! First the waitress had the most beautiful smile and took really good care of us! She got a 40% tip that’s how well she took care of us. Second the onset came to the table. He remembered me from two years ago pre covid! I only have been in once, he even remembered exactly where I sat! This restaurant is so warm and feels like family. Highly recommend! Get the rice balls, you won’t be disappointed!
My first visit to Silvio’s and I will definitely be back!! The atmosphere is quaint and comfortable. The service was prompt and friendly. But, the best part of the evening was the FOOD! We started with the rice balls appetizer then had the meatball lasagna. We finished with the lemoncello cake. Everything we had was cooked to perfection. If you are looking for huge portions of tasteless food, try Olive Garden it if you want delicious authentic Italian food, GO TO SILVIO’S!
A friend recommended Silvio's to me and said it would be the best Italian food in Louisville. After eating there I would say it is the best Italian food I have ever had. I have lived in four different states and never been treated so well and eaten so well as I have here. This is a must try!
The rice balls were great, highly recommed giving them a try as an appetizer! The food was good, could have used a little more chicken, but it does not change the quality. Salted Carmel cheese cake, and companion got a cannoli, both were also exceptional.
Best Italian in Louisville. I said what I said. It’s not very big, so you might miss it, but I definitely suggest eating at Silvios. Bill, the chef/owner, makes every table feel like family and welcoming to all, old and young!
Simply fantastic. Service was very friendly. I had baked ziti. Others with me had the daily special (gnocchi) and the bolognese. Everything was excellent. I had limoncello cake for dessert. Best cake ever.
Amazing food. Everybody in our party loved their meals, salads and appetizers. Erin gave our large party phenomenal service. Will be back!
A unique place to go out for dinner and enjoy delicious Italian dishes. The chef will personally greet you at the table. The service is 👌
Great little place. This place is the true definition of family owned & operated. Mrs. Silvio greeted us at the door as hostess, Mr. Silvio made his rounds in the small dining area greeting & thanking customers for coming in & their daughter was our waitress. The food was excellent & full of flavor. I highly recommend Silivo's! Check out my pork chop dinner. It was so tender, I could cut it with my fork!
We took my mom out for a nice birthday dinner and enjoyed our meal. As far as the food and wine goes, it was pretty good, just a bit over priced.
We choose to try a new place for our 15 anniversary and it was such an amazing experience. The food was wonderful and the service was phenomenal. Thank you Ms Jackie for the great experience. We will be back 😀
We had reservations at 5pm and were immeditately seated when we got there. The waitress was very professional and friendly. They had a nice wine list and a good selection of pasta and meat based dishes. We ordered the calamari and caprese salad as an appitizer. It came out fast and fresh. We had baked zito for dinner and it came out fast and fresh too. The owner was walking the room and was friendly and entertaining. Our dinner was $60 and it included two apps and two dinners.
My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We had a good recommendation from someone we knew (they go to a different location as this one is newer).
I would have given this a 3.5 but I can't do half stars. I gave it a 3.5 because they had great customer service, but their space was not very comfortable and the food wasn't special but not awful. Our waitress was very kind and attentive without being annoying and what looked to be the head chef or owner came out to ask how we were doing and welcomed us. Prices for the kind of food they serve isn't bad but I was disappointed in the flavor. I felt it was lacking.
My husband had the Pasta with seafood. The mussels outlined the pasta and there was a small portion of pasta with some shrimp and scallops. Not bad but not very flavorful especially with the seafood.
I ate the Primavera with angel hair pasta. Again it was good but not super flavorful. I added quite a bit of salt and that was a nice touch.
Sylvio’s offers authentic Italian cuisine. There are several menu options to choose from, including pasta dishes, fish, pork chops, chicken, etc. there is truly not a bad choice among them.
The Alfredo sauce is truly a delight; creamy yet light, not the heavy gummy stuff you get most places. There are several salad choices and all are very good.
Of course, we had cannolis for dessert.
We enjoy visiting with Bill, the owner and chef, as he comes to each table to make sure guests are well taken care of.
For a special occasion or a very nice dinner, visit Sylvio’s. Reservations are recommended. As the restaurant is small and intimate and always full.
It is rare that you find a place that has amazing food with equally amazing service. From the moment we entered the restaurant, I felt like I was visiting family. Bill (owner/chef) and his wife Caron (owner) have created an environment and tasty authentic Italian food like no other. Their interaction and genuine care for the guests was so welcoming. Our server/bartender, Debbie, was so warm and friendly and they all treated us like family. We came for the wonderful food and stayed for the immaculate service. Will 100% be back. 1000/10 recommend.
Went for dinner with my boyfriend, aunt, and dad. We all loved our dishes! I had the mussels as an entree and I could drink the white wine cream sauce they came in! Boyfriend and aunt had the spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious! Don't remember what my dad got and I didn't try it but he said it was delicious. We also enjoyed the toasted ravioli special appetizer. Service was great and the owner stops by tables to say hi. Highly recommend for a nice dinner!
This is the best Italian restaurant in Louisville and Kentucky! It’s a family owned restaurant and feels more like eating at a friends house than a restaurant. Their bar is small and well stocked. Be sure to ask for Pappy Van Winkle! Debbie makes great cocktails at the bar and the food is exceptional and fairly priced. Bill, the owner, is a lovely person to talk to…
Another incredible evening at Silvio's!!
I try to go there at least once a month and it never disappoints I was lucky enough to be able to take my brother and brother-in-law there tonight. The ambience and the greeting by Karen matches the quality of the food she is an absolute doll!! She is so upbeat and cheery it's like she's welcoming you into her own home. And always remember his little personal things you may have told her on the phone making your reservation. The owner/chef Bill it's just as delightful always stopping by your table to make sure everything is okay and to thank you for coming which is really funny because we should be thanking him for cooking LOL this is very fast become my favorite restaurant to go to not only for the food but for the people that own and run it it is a fantastic experience 10 out of 10 on every level do not miss it!!
I had salmon ziti-vodka sauce. It was awesome. Marinara sauce here is bonkers.
The food was amazing!! My boyfriend had the veal parmesan and I had the baked ziti. A friend had recommended the ziti as one of their best dishes and it did not disappoint! They do their sauce right! My adopted Italian mama would eat here. We had calamari and the rice ball for appetizers. The calamari was light and crispy. The rice ball was delicious and unique. The limoncello cake was the perfect ending... light in texture, sweetness and the lemon was just the right amount, not too overpowering. One visit and we're hooked! Environment was business casual and make a reservation. We didn't have one and ate at the bar. The bartender was wonderful and very efficient at getting us what we wanted.
I grew up in Chicago and Silvio's is the best Italian food I have ever had the only place that comes close is the Italian Village in downtown Chicago which is the oldest Italian restaurant in the city. I have been to Louisville twice and eaten at Silvio's twice and will eat there anytime I am in town again. Five stars and two thumbs up!
I had the special Chilean seabass and it was phenomenal. The owner was around and talked with us several times, very kind. Would certainly go back again for the food
A great little hidden gem. The owner makes sure to try and come by everyone's table and you can tell why people keep coming back here. The food is excellent and the service is too. You will leave feeling like your business is appreciated!
Amazing restaurant! We went on Valentine's eve and were wonderfully surprised by the warmth of the hospitality. Food is great as well!
DERBY EVE... right after The Oaks...no reservation.. no problem! Greeted and seated with smiles. The owner and Chef came to our table not once but twice to be sure everything was perfect. AND IT WAS! Our server was their pretty daughter, and her suggestions for the evening were spot on. I haven't enjoyed a meal like that in a LONG time! You will feel at home, want to hug everyone when you leave, and come back soon! Thank you all for a delightfull evening!
The best Italian dinner I've had in Louisville. I had the chicken parm and my brother had the eggplant parm. Homemade sauce, the right size for dinner, and just an excellent dish. The service is prompt and very friendly. And I liked that the owner came out to talk about the food and asked our opinions. We're originally from Philly and he's from Jersey - we know excellent Italian food!
It isn't an inexpensive meal but quality and experience more than makes up for it. Everyone here needs to try it at least once because it is so good. A nice shirt and jeans are OK and call ahead for reservations. They get full and sometimes have outside seating.
Just go and have an excellent dinner!
Had dinner and it was amazing. I cannot believe I’ve lived here in Louisville my whole life and haven’t been here! The hostess was amazing with communication and handled us with care. The food was so good, I will def be back and highly recommend ecotourism at Pat try you won’t be disappointed.
A wonderful time! Jackie took great care of us. Thank you Silvio for a wonderful evening ❤️
My friend and I went to Silvio's last night for dinner. The food, atmosphere, and staff were AMAZING. We ate at the bar, and Debbie was cheerful and friendly. The owner's wife excitedly welcomed us when we came in, and we chatted frequently with the owner/head chef. Everything about our experience was fantastic, I couldn't recommend a restaurant more!
The Grilled RomaCrunch salad was one of the best salads I have ever had. Simple yet very good. The Margherita Flatbread, Pasta Fagioli soup, Calamari, and Meat Lasagna were also delicious. Next time I want to try the roasted chicken with risotto. Cannot wait to go back!
First off, we went on a Saturday night without reservations (traveling & last minute decision). Karen (owner) greeted us warmly & said we’d have to wait but found us a place at the bar where bartender Debbie introduced herself warmly. Realized that she called most customers by name - I’m sure the reason the place was packed. Owner Bill came & chatted several times during our stay. Food was very good, service terrific- couldn’t have had a better experience. Left with a bunch of new BFFs 😃
This is a special place! The food is first rate. From the best calamari I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot in my day, to sensational cannoli for dessert, the food was absolutely great! My Caesar salad was all lettuce, which of course it should be, but what I mean is there were no stems! (I hate getting romaine and there being more stem than leaves.)
As good as the food was the hospitality might have been better. Bill Silvio, the owner, loves people and food and it really shows! I have been asked by many managers at restaurants if "Everything was Excellent," in a half-hearted way as they walked by the table, basically repeating what they had been told to say, but when Bill Silvio talks to you, it is genuine and it is sincere. He is great with people and takes great pride in the food he serves, which is in my opinion why everything tastes so wonderful and why I felt so good being there. It was like I was part of a big family dinner!
We ate at the bar and his daughter Jackie did a great job serving us, while without any assistance, tended bar for the entire restaurant, took orders over the phone for carryout, and then checked them out as they piled in one after another. She did an amazing job.
This was our first trip, but we have already made reservations to return, this time with friends. I am certain it will be the first of many return trips we will make.
In this day of chain restaurants, it is wonderful to find a family owned and operated place, that exceeded all my expectations on food, service and atmosphere.
Five stars and two thumbs up to Silvio's!
Way too expensive. Disappointed they didn't serve warm bread with olive oil and seasonings at the beginning. My dish was very good just Abit overpriced. $116.00 for 3 people.😔 The ambience was great tho …
Excellent tile fish special and cheese lasagna. Nice selection of wine. Attractive atmosphere. Friendly staff and owners. We will be back!
The manager greeted us right after we were seated. The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was great. I had the Veal Parmesan and it was cooked perfectly. I would recommend this place heartily.
This place was a last minite decision and we were not disappointed at all...I strongly recommend the Bruschetta for an appetizer and the Godiva chocolate cheesecake.
Dinner was AH-AH-AMAZING last night!!
We will be back!! Thanks a million to the owners, Bill and his wife, for making us feel welcome and special at this "best ever!" Italian Restaurant!! An entire "can't go wrong" menu!! This little restaurant is totally about atmosphere, friends, family, conversation, and so good food and delicious desserts!!
#WeWillBeBack #ReservationsOnly #OurNewMustHave
This was a great place. Great atmosphere & great food!! I had the pork chops and it was absolutely delicious!!!
Very small restaurant, good food, good service. Owner came out and talked with us.
First, the food is amazing! Beautiful presentation and simply delicious. Second, the service is amazing! This is one of the friendliest businesses around with very helpful and informative staff. You will not be disappointed....a must try!
Top of the line Italian food. The owner greeted us and was kind. Highly recommend.
Excellent service, excellent food! Will definitely be back!!
Our family was looking for a place that we could relax and enjoy being together. One of our family members had received some medical news that was not very good and we just needed some time together.
The place we originally looked into was booked and on a whim, my cousin did a Google search and found Silvio’s. They had us seated within 30 minutes. Everything about Silvio’s was top notch. The atmosphere was perfect, the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were amazing. The owner came over and personally talked with us, and after hearing the reason we were there, she went above and beyond hugging our family member and speaking words of encouragement, and offering her prayers. The two of them also share the same name :) We also found out that our waitress was the owners daughter. If you go, ask for her. She was phenomenal.
As we were leaving, the owner again took the time to tell each of us bye, with a hug. Mind you at this point in time they were extremely busy, but she still did it.
This was definitely where we were supposed to go last evening. From the initial phone call to walking out the door, we had a beautiful dinner and met some pretty special people along the way. I highly recommend Silvio’s. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.
If you are a regular that lives in Saint Matthews this place is a 5, if not you will take the back seat meaning, table by the door or bathroom and last to be served. I get it the staff knows who their bread and butter is. Personally I think the food is overpriced $25 meat lasagna that really should be $15 maybe $18. Don't get the chianti it has no taste. Be prepared to have your red wine served in a juice glass, wine drinkers request a stem glass they have them available.
Beautiful Italian cuisine and a beautiful experience! Silvio, the hostess and the waitress treated us like family. We will be back to enjoy some more of this delicious food!
Jackie was amazing!!! Our table of 8 received excellent service.
Just absolutely outstanding from the time you walk through the door until dessert. The food is amazing, the service is excellent and the entire experience is so awesome especially during this time when everything is such an ordeal. Debbie is our new friend and so blessed to have met her.
Very friendly, all meals were excellent
As well as appetizers and desserts.
Pork chop was probably the winner although all (meatball lasagna, fettuccini Alfredo, ziti) were very good. Appetizers of shrimp scampi and bruschetta were excellent, rice balls were not our favorite.
Italian cream cake and caramel cheesecake were the favorite of our table.
Service was beyond excellent, we truly enjoyed our meal and will be back again soon.
Ok, I decided to give this place another try. What a different experience.
Atmosphere is still nice.
Service was so much better this time. It was excellent. Annie was out of this world.
The food was outstanding. I got the pasta seafood. I highly recommend it.
Also, the amount of food we got this time was what I was expecting for the price.
When I come back for the 3rd visit, if all goes as well at the 3rd visit, I will update to 5 stars instead of 4. I believe in consistency. Even though my husband says tonight was a 5 star rating.
Below are the details to my orginal 2 star rating.
Atmosphere is nice
Service not so great.
Sat for at least 10 min waiting for a refill on my drink.
Meal came out with no bread. I had to ask if bread came with the meal. The response was no one brought you any bread?
So, it seems it should have come out while we waited for our food.
Food
Calamari was very bland.
Ziti with vodka sauce was ok.
Baked Ziti was very good according to my husband.
Portion size very small for the price.
Probably will not go back. First visit left a lot to be desired.
Silvios was recommended to me this past weekend. My husband and I walked in Saturday night and they were full and were running off of reservations. Before we could turn to leave the owners insisted we stay and did everything she could to find us a table. Every person we came in contact with that worked at Silvios was incredible and made us feel like family. The food was incredible and the best Italian we have had anywhere in this area. We stayed quite late and had an incredible time. This will definitely be a place we visit frequently! The entire experience was amazing and the family that owns this business goes above and beyond for all guests! Can't wait to see you all again!
Portions are enough for 2 people. The seafood pasta was huge!!!
We were passing through Louisville on the way home from the RRG. We were looking for places to eat on the way. With so many available restaurants we were glad we stumbled upon Silvios!
The service here is exceptional and the food was amazing! Great way to top off a great vacation. Check them out, you wont be disappointed!
I love this place. Great atmosphere with a great staff that makes you feel like family. This was my first visit since February 2020...I missed dining here. The food is always great and plenty to take home. If you like Italian food I highly recommend that stop by and give it a try.
The food. The atmosphere. The staff. The owner. Outstanding. Simply outstanding.
The service and staff were great. The owner is talking to customers and great. The food was a slightly different story. While it wasn't horrible, and it's all made in house, it was sub par at best.
Great Italian food in a small neighborhood place! We will be back!
The entire dining experience was fantastic. This was very much a "like family" dinner. We will definitely be back. The rice balls and homemade cake are amazing.
Took my daughter and family here at her request for her 21st birthday....perfect!!! The staff, the ambience and of course the food....so comfortable, they made my family feel like a part of their family....I think we ordered everything on the menu and I didn't hear one complaint.....someone even found a candle for her slice of Italian creme cake!!!!....Thanks so much to Bill, Caron and their warm and welcoming staff.....we'll be back. ; )
What a wonderful gem in St. Matthews! Warm, friendly, personable service paired with wonderful, homemade food like your Nona used to make! Do yourselves a favor and support a business that provides authentic food and equally personable one on one attention from owners who genuinely care and see you as a person, not a number! You won’t be disappointed!
I've not been, here. I searched, hoping to find Linguine, in Clam Sauce. As an unemployed, homeless, I miss when I could treat myself to a nice restaurant, & spend more than $100 on an experience. Five Stars for my delicious dream.
Everything we ate was delicious. The owners were kind and treated us like family even though it was our first time there. They even gave us free cannolis because it was our anniversary. Definitely going again some time. Really good!
One of our most favorite Italian dining experiences. Bill Melillo and his crew emphasize culture and family in everything they do and it shows! Highly recommend. The special last night (Friday, April 16) was outstanding!!
From the minute we walked in, to the moment we left, we had nothing short of an exceptional experience at Silvio’s. If you’re looking for traditional Italian food, and excellent service, you have to go here. Our first time here, and certainly not our last. Would give more than 5 stars if I could! Gratzi a tutti
Amazing food, you won't regret this one! Don't bother looking any further, just go to Silvio's. The owner personally greets his guests at the table. Chef Silvio uses authentic family recipes and top notch ingredients. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant.
Just had a fantastic dinner. Shared many plates family style and everything was wonderful. Personally ordered chicken parm and I highly recommend! Great food and great people.
The service and food was top notch! Absolutely love this place.
Sadly we will never return to Silvio’s. We were asked to leave, & that was truly a first. Among 5 friends in the middle of a warm conversation, we were told that we needed to leave, they needed the table & after all it’s Saturday night. Our reservation was for 6:30 & we arrived on the dot. Waited 10 minutes for a table. Service was slow even with Erin’s attempts. The 5 meals could be rated from moderate to exceptional. For pasta for two, a bottle of wine and dessert we paid $155. And at 8:10 we were told we needed to leave. We very nicely left immediately and in shock. What a way to have a not inexpensive evening cut short.
Excellent food! Most is a la cart but enjoyed the rice balls and simple angel hair spagetti with marinara sauce. Atmosphere is not real quiet but the servers are friendly and the owner/chief comes to the table and chats. Real personable fellow! Good for friends to gather or a couple to enjoy a dinner out.
LOVE this place! Fantastic food. Very friendly staff and the owner makes rounds to talk to patrons. Even gave me samples of some of his suggestions. We have been going for about four years and have never had a bad experience. Sure, it's a smaller intimate atmosphere and definitely should make reservations. If you walk in and have to wait, do it!
Very nice evening at Silvio's. Warm welcome, good service and tasty food. The owner always stops by to chat and talk about our food and the staff is very friendly and seems genuinely happy that you are there
Caesar was very good, special raviolis we very good and the spicy sausage was excellent. Bread and sausage are from New Jersey and very high quality. Silvio's is an excellent family restaurant that has very nice food and a neighborhood atmosphere, my favourite type of place
I have had the pleasure of dining here twice. It’s family owned. It’s welcoming and they make sure you are well taken care of. The food is delicious. I highly recommend the grilled romaine salad.
I've heard their ads on a Louisville radio station I listen to for a while now. Tonight I finally it! And the experience was incredible! The service was FIVE STAR! The bread, dinner and dessert was just like mama use to make in Elizabeth, N.J. super awesome! I'll be back!
Words can not describe the experience. Food was outstanding, service was perfect, each course timed, not rushed. Not many family restaurants left out there, the owner makes you feel like part of the family.
There are zero Italian restaurants that top this place. Owner is a top notch guy who seems to genuinely care if you enjoyed your food. He made a menu suggestion to my husband and told him if he didn't love it, he'd buy it and replace it for free. Quaint little place, make reservations if you want a seat. Every server is awesome and hostess is equally awesome! Don't forget to ask for the dessert tray, the Italian Cream Cake will blow your mind!!
The food is amazing and we really enjoyed our visit. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars is we had a forgetful waitress and had to keep reminding her to bring things we had ordered. She completely forgot about our dessert but since it wasn't on our bill we just went ahead and left and got dessert elsewhere. But we will be back for more of the delicious food.
Food & staff are top notch! We love this place and look forward to visiting every time. The food is always amazing and the atmosphere is relaxing. Thank you for always doing a wonderful job.
I never have a less than STELLAR experience at Silvio's. The food is the BEST anywhere and the service is amazing. I am sorry for not remembering the name of our waitress. She was so good and helpful. I will get her name next time we dine there and I will mention her. My wife and I both tried something different this time and we were not disappointed. I had lasagna and she had ziti. We also brought home some shrimp alfredo for our daughter who couldn't make it. She was very pleased with her fare. We also got a bourbon chocolate cake this time to go. It was fabulous. I think I like the Italian cake a little bit better though. Everyone should visit Silvio's at least 10 times in their life. I think you could sample everything on the menu that way. That is MY plan anyway. Silvio is always good to visit his customers in person and ensure everything was great. He is a very personable man with flair.
Stopped here for dinner with the family as the place had stellar reviews both on Google and Yelp.
Pros:
- Easy parking on the street or across
- Friendly owners and quick service
Cons:
- For a family owned Italian restaurant… food was ok. Not something I’d rave about. I’ve tried Eataly in Chicago, Convivio in Indianapolis, and IL Corvo in Seattle and these three offered a higher quality product at a comparable or even lower price. Which leads me to another cons:
- It is priced too high. Portions aren’t very big and a simple pasta is $18. Then you add protein or go with Bolognese or meatballs and you’re at $23-25. Pretty expensive in the city that is not NYC or LA.
- Covid concerns. The restaurant was packed. We’re not talking 6 feet between tables here. Some staff members were wearing a face shield instead of a mask and interacting with guests which is unsafe.
Amazing. Bravo! fresh... the chef interacts with his customers. The food top-notch ingredients. A lot of love and care is in this food and everything he makes. Then the meatballs!. It's like he picked it up from Italy and placed it right there in front of you. My God . He is authentic. I can't tell you how magnificent my tongue feels. Complex flavors in every bite. Right down to the last one.
What a special place! Everyone was so friendly and fun. It was like eating at your Italian uncle's house. The food was amazing. Good sized portions and wonderfully prepared. We will be going there on a regular basis.
Delicious dinner for family of four. We all tried something different, including chicken Parmesan, lasagna, shrimp polenta and baked ziti. Everyone’s was delicious, cooked well with right amount of spices. Bruschetta appetizer was also superb. Service was outstanding with added bonus of Silvio stopping by the table. Make reservations in advance, it’s a small place with a huge following. Definitely stop in and enjoy!
The atmosphere was fabulous. Owner stopped by table twice and was very personable. To top it all offf, the food was excellent and the servings were generous. We will definitely be back!
Great food, Great Service and very reasonable prices!! We enjoyed our meal and beverages very much!
Ate there as a Family of 4 tonight!! Absolutely wonderful food!! The rice ball were amazing & a must try! Egg plant parmigiana was fabulous!! My husband says the Baked Ziti & meatballs are the best he has ever had!! The owner was so inviting & kind!! I just loved how he made us feel so welcomed!! The food at Sylvio's is "Top-Notch" & would strongly recommend!!! A++ from our family!!
We were in Louisville for a few days and decided that we wanted some real Italian food. I did a search and came across Silvio's. The reviews were great, and the menu looked good. As it turned out, the reviews were understatements. Once we stepped inside, we were made to feel at home. The place is beautiful with a perfect dining atmosphere! And, everything you read about the owner is true. When you meet and talk to Bill, and you will, you will feel like you're talking to an old friend. Now, on to the food. By recommendation from Bill, I ordered the Baked Ziti. Words can't describe just how great my meal was. The pasta, sausage, cheeses and sauce were all put together to form the most perfect meal. I can't even tell you what my wife ordered. I was too wound up in my meal to pay any attention to hers. We did have Calamari for an appetizer which was great as well. There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about Silvio's. The entire experience was outstanding! Once you've eaten there, every other Italian restaurant's food tastes like it came out of a can. We live two hours away and will drive to Louisville specifically to eat at Silvio's. If you choose not to eat there, you are cheating yourself!
I have a thing about locally owned and good customer service. When I get both, I'm sold and will patronize a business even if they're not the least expensive. I'm sold on Silvio's.
Although I've been several times, I actually waited to write a review to see if they'd be consistent. However, what motivated me to finally provide feedback, was my last visit. They were packed! I didn't have a reservation, the air was broken and it was BLAZING outside. Despite all of this, the staff was superb and didn't act like they were as uncomfortable as I know they had to be, given the temperature IN the restaurant.
Unfortunately, the kitchen wasn't on their A-game, like they usually are, so Silvio went in and cooked in the midst of doing his usual customer greeting. When a leader physically leads by example, I take note. At times Silvio would come to our table with sweat dripping, but his bubbly personality didn't waiver, nor did any of his staff's.
You can always get chain food, but it's a little something special when you can support people who live, work and play where you do, and depend of the support of the community as much as the community depends on business owners' contributions to the local economy.
If you haven't been to Silvio's, GO!
All of the staff was very friendly and personable. The baked ziti and spaghetti and meatballs were excellent. I especially liked that the head chef came and asked us how we liked our meals.Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality Italian food experience!
We have been here twice. Once on my wife's birthday and today on mine. Each time the food, service and atmosphere have been excellent. I tried the grilled porkchop tonight and it blew everyone at the table away. By far the best porkchop in the city of Louisville and most certainly the best pork chop I've ever had. Bill, the owner, is always his lovely self and loves seeing our 7 month old and holds her whenever we visit! He and his staff have created an amazingly tender, juicy chop that I will be getting again soon. Thanks Silvios!
Best Italian we've ever had. Owner was very friendly, ordered pasta with Bolognese sauce and chicken parm, both were excellent! We were visiting from NY, will definitely go back when we're in KY again!
OH MY GOODNESS! This place is amazing and I didn't even know it existed. The staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. The owner visits every table and the lasagna was unbelievable. Great experience. Can't wait to come back!
Either if you live or just passing through Louisville, this place is the real deal. Stayed a night in Louisville on way home, and tried silvios. This place is soo good. Homemade Italian cooking at its finest. The owners are such the nicest owners. One even fix our table without us asking. Regardless when I’m back in Louisville I’ll totally stop for another dinner date.
The food is absolutely delicious and presented very well. Portions are plentiful and the desserts, so good. Plenty of selections. You must try the grilled Romaine with Pancetta as your salad or appetizer. It is one for a repeat next time!
I got off work today after a rough bartending shift, and everyone treated me so kindly. Normally I go about my business when eating alone at the bar, but the staff/owner were so friendly to me and got me laughing. I really appreciate it, guys. Some of the best service in Louisville, hands down. Made my day. I'll be back!
First place we went when we traveled here for a weekend getaway, it was amazing! We we're seated immediately, orders were taken quickly, friendly staff, and the owner of the place came out and talked with each guest in the restaurant. The portions were more than enough, food was authentic, and prices weren't bad. We loved it and will be going back. ❤
This is some if the best italian we have had. It was our 20th anniversary and the owner made us feel like we were family. He is a great guy and awesome cook. Kat our waitress was exceptional. We will be back.
What a wonderful dinning experience ! The atmosphere, waiter's and staff were brilliant. The food looked and tasted out of this world great ! If you want Italian done right this is the place. They really hit a home run !
The food was amazing! The staff was on point and exceptional! I highly recommend the rice ball appetizer, but nothing we all got was bad. We'll definitely be back!
Seated quickly on a Friday night (with reservation). Our server, Erin, was excellent. The food was delicious...apps, main course and dessert! The chef came out and was very welcoming and friendly.
An absolute gem of a restaurant! The food is top notch, the staff is friendly and helpful and the owner and chef is super nice. We got personal service even on a busy Saturday night and this place is on my list to return to when next in Louisville.
The Isle of Skye salmon is superb BTW.
A really nice dinner! Great service. Cozy, little restaurant. Food was delicious. I would've liked a little more side salad. The red sauce was perfect. Many restaurants here make theirs with too many herbs, but Silvio's has a yummy, simple red sauce. The main was a good serving. I was starving, so I finished my eggplant parmesan, but normally I would've taken half home. My husband enjoyed the spaghetti and meatball. Yes, it's a tad pricey, but I find most restaurants in this area are. In one review the customer complained about being served wine in a water glass (eye roll). They do serve wine in a tumbler here, but that is traditional in the southern Italian countryside. Get the cake! $10 for a slice of cake is a lot. But, it's so rich (and big) that you could get 4 small squares out of it. We will be back. They sat us at a high-top near the bar, but next time I'd probably enjoy dinner even more away from the TV's.
Excellent spot! Plan ahead fellas, make reservations. Try the softball size rice balls with the homemade sauce. Be prepared, Silvio will stop by your table to ensure that your dining experience is special.
My husband and I ate there recently and food was good but not exceptional. We were a little taken aback when charged extra $5 for olive oil and additional bread. We were told there would be a charge but really $5 for some olive oil on a plate with some spices thrown in! Wine was served in what looked like a juice glass which I thought was odd. Cesear salad was good. My husband had the seafood and pasta entree and was good but not fantastic. Eggplant Parmesan was very good! I left off a star because of the extra $5 charge for EVOO.
Delicious food, quiet atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The chef even came out to make sure our dinners were accurate and tasty.
My wife (Mrs. Kentucky), a friend and I enjoyed an amazing meal at Silvio's. We started with the rice balls, antipasto and a bottle of Chardonnay...all were 5 stars. Our friend had the daily special ravioli and Mrs. Kentucky and I shared the pasta with spicy Italian sausage. Our friend cleaned her plate and the sauce and sausage on our entree were perfectly executed. The icing on the cake for us was the hospitality of our server and Chef Melillo. I noticed throughout our meal that Chef Melillo made it a point to greet each diner throughout the night, striking up a genuine conversation. This restaurant etiquette is long forgotten and was so warmly welcome during our meal. Needless to say we will be back very soon.
Owner, server and hostess were very friendly and personable. Chicken parmesan was perfect and the Alfredo sauce was delicious. Best pasta e fagioli I've ever had. We will be back anytime we are craving Italian. Great Job!!!
Has been inconsistent. After 4 visits the very good has been the cheese lasagna. The good was the baked ziti. Bad was the Chicken Sylvio - The chicken was overcooked, and worse, had a rancid taste. Maybe some funky oil was on the grill that night. I've had the Bruschetta 3 times and it has been different each time. Last time was the worse. Stale bread that was too thick, with some cold tomato topping, topped off with a cold piece of cheese that also was too thick. Great service I will add.
It was just ok. My expectations were maybe too high when I heard they use to have Melilo's, which I loved. We think the prices didn't match the quality of the food. They were packed though on a Wednesday night so have to assume others may not agree.
Fantastic Italian food! Never had a bad meal. All family owned and operated. The owner/chef comes out and greets everyone and checks on tables. Two thumbs up!👍🏼👍🏼 …
The food was subpar and the service a bit slow compared to other restaurants in St. Matthews. The pork chops was dry, the risotto was overcooked and the chicken parm was off point. Sorry, not our cup of tea.
My wife and I ate here for the first time Saturday night at 7 pm 10/7/17. It was absolutely FANTASTIC. We had reservations and were seated immediately.
We had a bottle of Cabernet and the rice balls as an appetizer. The wine was great, as were the rice balls.
I had the seafood linguine diavolo (spicy) and my wife had the baked ziti. The seafood linguine was a kick back to my childhood with a DELICIOUS spicy red sauce. It was loaded with mussels, scallops, and shrimp over a bed of linguine. It was served with bread to soak up the delicious sauce. I rarely order this dish anywhere but at my parent's kitchen table because it was my father's specialty. He is hard to beat, but I am telling you that this was just as good. This was easily enough for 2 full meals.
My wife's ziti was another home run. The perfect ratio of cheese, pasta, and homemade sauce . . . this ziti was the best I have had. To top it off, he mixes quality Italian sausage in with the dish that puts it over the top. There was easily enough food for two full size meals.
For dessert i highly recommend the coconut cake. It is a family recipe and was delicious. It reminded me a lot of a Carrot cake. It was a little pricey for two (at $15), but it is really a dessert for 2-4. It was out of this world, and fed my wife and i for two nights.
Enough about the food, and on to the service. It was fantastic, we spoke with the owner Bill as he came around table to table checking on customers, introducing himself, and offering suggestions. He is a fantastic host and made everyone feel welcome. Our server was also fantastic, and was on point with everything that was needed.
All in all, it was a fantastic night. I will tell anyone and everyone about this place and I can't wait to be back. This is my favorite kind of restaurant: quaint, family run, and delicious.
Found this place a few years back while in Louisville for the Battle in the Boro basketball tournament. It is probably the most delicious italian food I have had in a long time. The owner visited our table and was an awesome guy!
Wish I could do more stars! Best Italian I have had in a long time. Meatball Lasagna with a side of spicy Italian sausage. And definitely get the Italian Cream Cake!
OMG!!!!! Bring your appetite!!! Portion sizes are large and plentiful. You will leave completely satisfied. Carine (sp) was a phenomenal server, thank you. The (assuming) owner/chef along with his wife are amazing people. You'll get your opportunity to share laughs and experiences with them. As a member of the hospitality world, the service you will recieve here is insurmountable! A breath of fresh air. I wish i could give 10 stars. Thank you all so much for such an amazingly outstanding experience that will always be etched into my memories.
The owner recommend the baked ziti with the Italian Sausage. It was outstanding, best I have ever had. Their Italian Sausage comes from Jersey and it was fantastic !!!!! The service was great and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely go back
Made our 2nd visit recently. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Had bolognese for dinner and cannolis for dessert. Bolognese was genuine and could not have been better, 10 out of 10. Cannolis were damn good also.
Great service and food. Will come back!
Greeted by the owner after being seated. The menu offered all of the Italian staples. Dessert was decadent, as it should be. Erin was a terrific waitress. PS - the music mix was fantastic!
i love italian and this place is one of the best, make reservations for sure to avoid a long wait . super good
This restaurant is amazing! The food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful! The owners are out greeting each table! I feel like I come home for dinner! Great place!
Very good food. The atmosphere was small and inviting. We had a large party of 11 and had no issues with service or food. I highly recommend. We plan to revisit.
Great Food GREAT Service, The Owner Actually Cares about your Dinning Experience!!!!! 5 STARS
Top notch Italian food with an even better staff. Best restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time.
Silvio's is a St. Matthews gem. The food is consistently spectacular. Fresh ingredients, great execution - this is definitely worth a first or repeat visit.
Why did I just now find this place? The food is really great. And it's been here for a long time. Might pay to advertise. This place is well worth the money and the food was awesome. Best lasagna I ever had.
Found this little place while traveling through louisville. What a find! We had a wonderful time. The wait staff were great, we had a nice visit with the owner, and the food was outstanding! It's worth going out of your way to experience this.
Fantastic experience every time we visit. Bill and his wife are fantastic and always make everyone feel like family. We look forward to spending time there, and to top it off, the food is delicious!
Dinner was INCREDIBLE! I didn't know Louisville could bring ITALIAN like this OMG!!!!!!! BEST dining experience out of state in a LONG TIME!!!!!!! Came from Cali in my Raider Gear with my Love and received an amazing VIP experience from The Owner, Ms. P, and our server Mr. Marty.....and that was just the front of the house!!!!!! Food was THEEE BEST!!!!! Anytime you are within 4 hours of this Prestigious Restaurant HIT THEM UP!!!!!
Great food, WONDERFUL cozy atmosphere, smooth music, and topped off with a delightful dessert... ALL reduced to a somewhat disappointing evening... our server was too abrupt, too hurried, and rushed us... felt more like a fast-food drive thru during experience
I'll likely be back... a 2nd chance to earn my business, but with a different server.
The restaurant service and good food was outstanding. It is well worth seeking it out. The owner visits everyone at their table. Rice ball was excellent in fact everything was amazing.
It is a good place to enjoy a simple Italian dinner, with table service, in a some what intimate setting. Sylvia is usually always here and he ll always walk around his restaurant and check in his customers.
Service is always very friendly, very polite, very helpful.
The menu has many of the typical Italian plates you come to expect at an Italian restaurant.
My favorites calamari, shrimp scampi, lasagna with bolognese, spaghetti with meatballs or sweat sausage.
Try the veal it is fork tender.
Dessert favorites - Italian creme cake. The cannoli has a slight “Sylvio’s ” signature lemon zest flavor.
Eggplant Parmesan is always amazing, crispy and perfectly cooked. The staff is great with the chef walking around greeting customers. And tonight the Lemoncello cake was a perfect ending!
Best Italian restaurant I've ever been to! Great food, great service, friendly chef! Worth a visit!
What a perfect holiday destination: great food, festive ambiance and value. Thr Pasta with Seafood and Baked Ziti were standouts, as was Lisa, our barkeep, who is destined for social media superstardom. I have a new favorite Italian restaurant in Louisville.
Silvio's never disappoints! It was fantastic!
Awesome food, prices right.
Chef will check with you to make sure your enjoying the meal. Last time I told him I didn't have time to talk, busy with the fork. Great guy.
Had our company Christmas party and the staff was attentive and even made a special dinner item that we requested that had been one of their specials months earlier. Intimate but local and fun. Not to mention great food
First of all you are made to feel like family. What a warm place. Now for the food... superb.
My friends said BRAVO! and We Had more fun than we deserved! If I were a consultant I would say keep doing what you are doing....don't change a thing.
What a great restaurant. The food was amazing. I had Ziti with spicy Italian sausage and Diavolo sauce. Don't miss the Italian Cream Cake for dessert. Absolutely delicious.
The food, the staff, the owner stopping by the table, this place is amazing!!!! We had a party of 8, all of us first timers to Silvio's, wee will all now be regulars. This is a lovely place is a must try!!!
Always a great experience. Each time the owner personally comes to speak with us like he knows us. It is a really nice, friendly atmosphere.
The BEST mussels in Louisville! The Pasta with Seafood was simply amazing! Great service and a pleasant visit from the owner/chef. Would highly recommend!
Amazing food, great atmosphere, and the chef/owner is wonderful! The rice ball is very yummy! What a great gem in St. Matthew's!
I've only been once but I was very impressed. The service and food were both excellent. If my return visits are as good I'll move this up to 5 stars.

The atmosphere is great, reminds me of a restaurant I went to in Italy. Very good food, wine and dessert.

It's always a treat to share dinner with friends at Silvio's where you are made to feel like family. The cheese lasagna is always terrific. Be sure and make reservations.
We went there and tried out the food. It was very good. We had chicken salad, chicken sandwich, and eggplants sandwich. They were all delicious. We will definitely come back again.
If you like Olive Garden do not come here! This is what real Italian food tastes like so much style and flavor!!!! I loved it and will be back many more times!

We had several meals here and enjoyed all of them because the food was excellent as was the atmosphere and décor. We brought friends with us and they are anxious to return.
I spent a wonderful evening for my anniversary with a very personal staff, an brilliant executive chef and owners who treat you like family. A place I'd happily recommend for casual dinners or special occasions!!

The eggplant parmesan is really good as is the grilled romaine salad. Leave room for dessert the Italian Cream cake is to due for as is the lemon cake.
Bad clams (three that did not open during cooking) were left in the dish I was served. The lemoncello cake was fabulous.
Good for some menu items, not so good for others. Salmon was undercooked. Pasta sauce a little bland. Other entrees were very good.
Love this place! Good atmosphere great staff and owner always comes out and treats you Iike family.
