Reviews of Queen of Sheba Restaurant
Caitlin Moorman
Yesterday was my first time getting to experience this delicious place. We were greeted immediately when we entered, despite how busy they were. Several waiters checked on us periodically during our time. I ordered the chicken Sheba Tips and WOW. Absolutely delicious! Being new to Ethiopian cuisine I wasn't sure what to get, and the waiters were very helpful with explaining what everything is. It was a fantastic experience with authentic Ethiopian food, and the prices were surprisingly low. I will definitely be returning!

First experience with Ethiopian food and it won’t be the last. The server was very helpful in describing the dishes. And it was so good. Flavors I have never tasted before.
I had the tips.. chicken and vegetables combo.

Consistent food everytime; the menu is full of dishes most people haven’t had and everyone should try! The platter family style dining makes it easy to try new pairings and tastes!

Just WOW! That was great! We tried the meat combination. Everything was so yummy! The coffee and lemon cake was magic.

My husband and I never ate Ethiopian food before, and I was originally hesitant to enter this restaurant because I'm normally a very picky eater (I stick to bland, familiar foods like pasta with butter - I know, I know. I am quite boring). However, since I cherish building new memories with my husband, I decided to follow him into this restaurant - and I am so, so happy that I did. The food that we ordered was a unique experience (our two meals all fit into one massive plate that we shared together) and - after we finished our main course - we had Ethiopian coffee with baklava for dessert, which I enjoyed immensely. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was cozy. I wish this business all the best in the future. I appreciated our time there so much.

First time having Ethiopian food. It was an experience. I had lamb-2 ways (sautéed and stewed), spicy lentils, salad, stewed green beans & carrots, stewed collard greens, cabbage and rice. Also, injeri (sp?) bread. I mostly enjoyed the blend of spices, warm - think cumin, smoked paprika, sumac, zataar, maybe chili powder; mildly pungent, somewhat spicy (not too much, tho). Not sure of all the spices. Food well seasoned. Not a fan of injeri bread, spongy consistency a sour after taste. But, I get it, just a personal preference.
Great space, adequate parking, great service. Great vibe. Go for the adventure.

I cannot rave loud enough over this restaurant! The service, the genuine friendliness, and let's not forget the food are all top notch! It was packed on a Saturday night. My husband and I were there in the patio with our toddler. While the indoor dining room was packed, the outdoor patio only had three tables full. The menu and drinks were explained to us, extra napkins and straws and spoons and plates were brought to our table for our son. Even though there is a kid's menu, our son ate off of our combination platter.
The lentils and the collard greens were hits with our 15 month old! I enjoyed every bite as did my husband.
I already cannot wait to go back!

This place was way better than I expected in post covid climate soo many other businesses are lacking in customer service lately…When I walked in it smelled very clean and the bathrooms were sparkling so was our area which made me very excited to eat with my hands.. the food was delicious and fresh, the customer service was AMAZING and the honey wine made me warm off half a glass❤️ this is a great spot to go as a group or couple. Ps you can use silverware if u like and they have Vegan Options!! One of my new favorite spots
Noah Smith
The service was great and this type of cuisine was a new experience for my wife and me. There were new flavors that I'd never tasted and eating with my hands was interesting, in a good way. The meat was a little chewy.

My favorite restaurant in Louisville, the food is great, service is good, the atmosphere of the dinning area is wonderful. I can't say enough good things about the food, I enjoy eating here, from the start of the meal to finishing the last bit of food on your plate, every bite is a wonderful experience. Highly recommend Queen Of Sheba, for an exceptional meal.

We are in town for a wedding and very happy we stumbled across this establishment. Food is fantastic, great ambiance, and excellent prices. I will definitely share this with friends!

One of the tastiest Ethiopian restaurants we’ve been to (rivals DC area). Great service, great price, perfect injera. Highly recommend

The food was amazing. I was so pleasantly surprised when the owner delivered my meal. Such a nice atmosphere and food was so good!!

Been to many Ethiopian restaurants, this will be on top 5. Fast & Friendly service, food was tailored to Western palette, not much of spices and I noticed they used more oil than other places. Injeera (the bread) is okay.

Louisville has many options in terms of vegan restaurants and Queen of Sheba, although not deliberately intended to be vegan, is an amazing place for great vegan food.
Food:
We started off with an Ice Tea and Sheba Te'j - an Ethiopian Honey Wine. The Ice Tea was good and the wine was great. It had a very subtle flavor and probably the only wine apart from the white wines that I enjoyed. We went for Lentil Samboosa, Seneg Karia, Vegetarian combination plate and Berbere Lega Engudai Tips for our meals. Samboosa was great. The outer covering was very crispy and the stuffing was good too. Seneg Karia, which is basically stuffed jalapenos with diced onions and tomatoes, was okay. The "very very spicyness" was purely Jalapeno. The vegetarian combination plate includes Misir Wot (split lentils simmered in diced onions, ginger, and garlic seasoned with turmeric and spices), Atakilt (spiced cabbage, onions and carrots cooked in a mild tomato sauce) and Gomen Wot (collard greens, onions, potatoes, carrots, ginger and garlic cooked in a mild sauce). Of all things, Misir Wot was my favorite. The flavors were just amazing. Atakilt and Gomen Wot - absolutely delicious. Berbere Lega Engudai Tips was quite spicy and flavorful. In all dishes, the perfect acidity enhanced the flavors amazingly well instead of making them just raw spicy. The side salad was something not really required with such delicious vegetables but they were still fine. Injera bread was very well made and was a great combination with all the dishes.
The combination dishes are served in servings of one or two. So, if you go for two, you will get this one big plate with servings for two - one vegetable served on either side for each person. It's a great way to share and it - something inherent in Indian culture as well where people who are close enough have food on the same plate itself.
Ambiance:
It has a very Ethiopian ambiance with all the interiors. The restaurant is quite quiet. A little more towards upscale but not so much that you will feel odd if you go in just with t-shirt and shorts. They have good seating capacity. There are family tables, tables of two, high chairs and there is also a separate section in the restaurant where they even serve in an Ethiopian way.
Staff:
The staff was good. The service was quite good and timely. Although the lady attending us looked a little flustered but was still good at attending the customers.
Overall, it's a great place to be if you have never tried Ethiopian cuisine and definitely to go if you are looking for a great vegan meal.
Tori Daniels
Amazing food! Vegetarian/Vegan options are amazing! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a filling and delicious meal, especially plant based. They have plenty of non-vegetarian meals too for the meat eaters out there. Great place to please a party that has different dietary preferences.
May Smith
Delicious, large portions of different vegetable options come with the veggie combination. I'm such a fan of flavor variety, and the unique sour bread that comes with this food. The staff was kind and attentive. I will definitely be back!
Bloomins
One of the coolest dining experiences I've had. The place smells immaculate when you walk in. The service was so friendly and quick to accommodate our party. I enjoyed their Gored gored and had some of their honeymoon wine. I never had such an experience where you technically get to eat the plate, and you eat everything with your hands. Too cool. I would love to come back here again.
Madison Murray
One of my favorite places to go for dinner, I love the lighting and the food is always amazing! Presentation is on point and quite healthy also!
Ekaterina Balaban
Excellent food, great menu choices, and service was also superb! Coffee is made in-house - roasting, grinding and all. Very happy with it visit, will definitely be back!
Ken Crider
Wow. What a wonderful surprise. The food and service were excellent. I loved the meal, the bread and coffee. It was all so very good also.
I am from out of state and can't express enough how fortunate you are to have this jewel. If you live in Louisville and haven't tried Queen of Sheba, shame on you. :)
Anna Collins
Just absolutely delicious! If you like sourdough, then injera you never knew you needed in your life. Super vegetarian friendly!
DJ Wood
They must have changed chefs/cooks. Food didn’t taste all that great, not like it did in the past.
Would give them another shot in the future!
Shabir Bharadia
I have always enjoyed this place every time I have visited for dinner. Today was no exception. Although the service was lukewarm, the food was excellent. It was well prepared and flavorful with generous portions. My wife and I ordered a combination dinner for one and we were barely able to finish it although we were hungry.
Grant Laufenburger
A delicious, fun, & filling meal! Highly recommend. However, it is a small restaurant so making a reservation or getting there early is a good idea.
Kate Fox
Yum! It was busy on a Saturday night but our table of two were lucky to get a table fast. The food was superb, very hot, and fast. The prices were in line with the portions.
Our server was...meh. As a former server I was not impressed by her lack of even a hint of enthusiasm, even at 6:30pm on a Saturday. She did her job so she earned her 20% tip, but no more. (I would never tip under 10%, but I do go up to 200%)
My only real issue the I personally had a hard time with the menu. Felt too vague.
Still, the food is so worth going back!

Had THE tastiest dinner of Kosta Wrap, Timatim Fitfit, and Engudai Tips.
Thanks, kitchen staff! Delicious, indeed.

Colorful and Authentic environment including music. Amazing authentic food. Great staff!

I love this restaurant! Everything I have tried has been delicious. I like to bring my friend here so they can try it too. They have all loved the food and experience!
Peter Gigante
Excellent food and a great value. Will def be back.
I'd been meaning to try Queen of Sheba for months and glad we finally did. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to these first time customers. I've had Ethiopian before but not in Louisville. The spiced iced tea was refreshing and the food was all around excellent. We started with the appetizer sampler and loved all three items. My only suggestion to the staff would be to cut the wraps into half pieces so they're easier to share. The items came in pairs but we were three people and it was hard to split without a knife.
The shared entrees were super flavorful and the meat was all very tender. Spicy but not mouth burning. I particularly enjoyed the Gored Gored and the lentil side dish from my partners order.
We stayed for coffee and I would def recommend it. Bright and floral Arabia was a perfect end to the meal.
Nicholas Demille
Every bit as good as the food prepared in East Africa. This place is a gem. The vegetarian options are particularly strong but this shouldn't deter meat eaters - the beef and chicken Duro Wat is excellent.
Michetti Barracuda
I have been here MANY times before and it has always been just incredible. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food is amazing. However last time I ordered some food to go, when I got home to eat it, both my orders of lamb gored gored were not cooked all the way. I ended up just cooking something fast for that night and cooked the gored the next day with some rice and it was fine. Other than that, I've always enjoyed the food from Queen of Sheba and will be back again.
Andrew Horsfall
Dined here twice while visiting Louisville. The menu has most staples when it comes to Ethiopian food. They also mix flour with their teff, which gives the injera a milder taste which I prefer. Overall, the food is excellent and the service is friendly. Recommend to all to give this place a try!
Allen Adkins
This was my first experience with traditial Ethiopian food. It was wonderful. The flavors and textures were delicious especially the traditional bread and the Ethiopian coffee. Our server was attentive and friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable and welcoming. Will definitely eat there again and try some different dishes.
Jackson Hoffmann
absolutely delicious. it was my first time trying ethiopian food and it was a brilliant first impression. best meal i’ve had in a while, and it was VERY reasonably priced
John Cummings
I always order the Lega
(with lamb) place is usually busy. And I wish they opened a bit earlier. 5pm is a bit unusual. But select time restaurants are the new hype. . . Specializing in one or two meals a day is preferred over full day service.
Brendan McCormick
The ambiance is very good at their very reasonable price point. The staff is very focused on the customer experience and work hard to make sure you're not overwhelmed by the menu.
The food was great and the place was very busy on the carry-out side. My family of 6 tried a new style of food and only one picky one wasn't impressed. We ate in and still ordered food to go for the next day.
Go for the Ethiopian food, stay for the service.
Efraín Espinoza
Very very wonderful experience of Ethiopian food! Good prices
Naomi and Corvin
Good food. If you have a gluten sensitivity, have the server double check with the cook to not give you any flatbread. Will certainly come again!
Julie Heckman
First time trying Ethiopian cuisine. We got the sampler appetizer and three different traditional style dishes to share at our table. Everything was so wonderful and flavorful. Already looking forward to going back to try other menu items.
Elizabeth Keller
The food is sensational and the staff is always wonderful. The traditionally served coffee and baklava is divine! One of my favorite restaurants ever!

Ordered take out and it was absolutely yummy! I got the meat and veggie combo and baklava. Both were great...I would order here again.
Bidisha Nag
Small unpretentious restaurant with a large choice of items. Someone who has been to Ethiopia took us there and mentioned this being very authentic!
Megan Randell
The food here is fantastic. You get large portions for a low price. You could easily split a single serving dish between two people. The restaurant was cozy with very nice staff. I will definitely be returning.
Matthew Leff
Fantastic Ethiopian food, make sure to ask for some of the house made hot sauce.
Alisa Boyce-James
My fiancé and I dined here on September 26th, while I’m writing this it’s last night. We came in around 6 and were seated very quickly. I have dietary restrictions because of gastrointestinal problems so bear this in mind. We ordered hot tea and the vegetable and tips combination for two. We got a beef dish with it and the chicken shiba tips, lentils, green beans and carrots, and a cabbage dish, along with the injera and the salad they serve on the side. This was my first experience with Ethiopian food and my fiancé had it when he was a kid. We loved the lentils and as I could eat nearly everything except the beef dish, I was very excited! Everything was very flavorful, the injera was soft and we never had to ask for anything! The wait staff was super attentive, they refilled my fiancé’s tea and brought us more injera as we thought about it, we swore they must be telepathic! If we didn’t live in southern WV we would be here often. If you’re on the fence about trying this restaurant this is your sign to try it! Thank you so much Queen of Sheba and all the staff for such a wonderful experience.
nate knopf
Always great food. Really good place to eat if it needs to be alcohol free. They have beer and wine but it's an easy meal to not have a drink.
Kelia Bradford
They looked busy but there wasn’t a wait, the staff was professional and friendly, and best of all the food was delicious! Incredibly unique, unlike anything I’ve eaten before and I loves the flavors as well as the experience of traditional Ethiopian dining. Also, they had many vegan options which was greatly appreciated. Will be going again!
Shawn Malone
Quaint little place with fantastic food. Waitress was extremely polite and attentive. Ethiopian dining is a unique experience and this place makes sure you get what you pay for
Kerie Rumsey
This was my first time at Queen of Sheba. We had a party of 5 and got a table right away. The wait staff were very friendly and patient with us as we tried to decide what to order. We all ordered entrees and shared (family style). We had two take out boxes of food leftover! The food was all delicious. We had mostly lamb and beef dishes but the collards and the lentils were equally tasty. The table shared a pot of coffee and dessert. Simply superb! The waitress told us they prepare everything from scratch. They even roast their own coffee beans. It is definitely not a quick bite, but the experience and the food are worth the time.
Quinn Alt
Delicious food and great coffee. I will definitely be going back!
George Haysler
Food was amazing! We have been wanting to go here for years, but it is a long trip and things kept coming up. Well worth the wait, everything was delicious, and the service was excellent, even though they were very busy when we visited!
Martin Weaver
My wife and I flew into Louisville Bowman Field to give Queen of Sheba a try. Everything I'd read made it sound intriguing. The building used to house Mazzoni's which was a Louisville institution for more than a hundred years.
Neither my wife, nor I, really know what we had to eat. I had the vegetarian combo and she had the Gored Gored. There's no silverware on the table, and we were given the option of eating American style with supplied forks, or Ethiopian style with our hands...well, when in Rome!
The food was excellent, and we enjoyed everything on our platter. It's served on one big platter instead of individual plates. I'd studied the menu before we arrived, but once in the door I was confused.
Service was a little slow on a Saturday afternoon, but they were moderately busy and there was only one waitress. She did the best she could, considering. We can't wait to go back after we learn more about the cuisine. By-the-way, if flying in to Bowman, Central American Airways is closed for remodel. They've been bought by the competition, and they'll have a new name when they reopen. It was a warm sunny late February day, so everyone with an airplane was in the air, but all of the controllers were friendly, professional and helpful. Be careful out there folks.
Skylar Gill
Love, love, loved! Tried the tea and it was amazing, so perfectly spiced. It was my first time so I got the combination plate - tips and veggies - and everything was so delicious, so filling. I can't wait to go back and try more things!
Edit: Tried the coffee and it's totally worth the wait guys! All the spice and floral notes came out perfectly and that presentation? A++! Went with the meat combination this time and wasn't disappointed. Get the injera, you won't regret it.
Donald Dickerson
Awesome datenight restaurant. Definitely sit in the traditional seating, because it's such a cool experience. The food is incredible, the staff normally good, and the experience is very personal feeling. This might be because the restaurant is designed in a way that a lot of the noise in the traditional seating is cancelled out. Very nice place in a relatively quiet location.
Stinkyvampdog Bite
Was a fantastic dinner. I am new to Ethiopian food. I enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly staff. I meet the owner and a very friendly, handsome cook, Zack, who was very helpful in explaining the dishes and answering questions about the food. Will be back and recommending this restaurant to everyone.
Undead Ondine
Queen of Sheba is a small, but very friendly, establishment, with a cheerful, easygoing atmosphere. The service is great, and it easily caters to a vegan diet (as well others). If you love Ethiopian food, this is definitely the place to go! Their spreads are generous and delicious. I also recommend their coffee, it can take a little extra time to get it, but it's definitely worth it. Queen of Sheba is one of my favorite restaurants.
Parker Brown
This was such a fun place! Very unique food and very tasty! I highly recommend trying this place out, I look forward to coming back.
Pranav Gokhale
Friendly service, reasonable prices and great tasting food.
Ashton Scott
Food is fantastic and reasonably priced and servers are friendly and knowledgeable. I've been a few times and will continue to go. Most recently I ordered the YeAsa Tips (pan fried tilapia), lentil sambusa, and the baklawa. Also, don't skip the salad, its fantastic.
Daniel Fisher
Fantastic food and fantastic service. I'm an adventurous eater, and Ethiopian food is my favorite. I especially love the raw food, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but this restaurant is fantastic if you're like me. With eating raw foods preparation and cleanliness matters. I've eaten at this place many times and never once have I had any concern about the food I was eating. My go to order here is the kitfo and the gored gored. I get it tere, or raw. Trust me, it's adventurous for the casual diner, but it's very much so worth it. The food is so flavorful it will keep you coming back for more as there is no spice palate like that of Ethiopian food. The closest spice palate in my opinion is Indian food, but even that doesn't come close to what Ethiopian food has to offer. For the casual eater there are many cooked options as well, and for the vegetarian my plate is never complete without their beyanatu, or veggie platter. Mostly lentils and split peas, but their collard greens and cabbage are to die for. The topping to everything is the injera, which is the bread that they give to eat your meal. Everything is served family style and you are given a basket of injera that you use to pick up your food. Injera is a type of soft sour dough bread that is fermented and typically made of a grain called teff. Some restaurants use a knock off form of injera made mostly of barley, but this restaurant uses the real thing and you can taste it. Their gored gored is a little more saucy than what I like, but it has grown on me as I've eaten there more. I've not had a chance to try some of the other options, including some of the more popular Ethiopian dishes such as doro wat or shiro, but that's because I love their kitfo and gored gored is so good I just cant bring myself to get anything else. I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as extraordinary. And while the food is great, the service is better. It's a little slower than what's typically expected in the American service industry, but they are very friendly here. They will take the time to talk with you and get to know you and after only a few times eating here the staff has come to recognize me, which is nice. It adds a personal flavor to the entire experience. And if you really love the spices they use they have them for sale if you'd like to try your hand at home. As far as drinks go, my favorites are the tea and coffee. They mix their tea with special spices that make it unlike anything youve had before and it's very good. Ive never had this particular restaurants coffee, but Ethiopian coffee is typically served as a ceremony. They roast their beans for much longer than usual and typically will make the process somewhat of a show with different incense, etc. It is stronger than a typical black coffee, so I would recommend it for the more experienced coffee drinker, but they do provide sugar and what not so even those less experienced can enjoy. While I've never had this particular establishments coffee, the rest of their food is so well prepared I am confident their coffee is as well. It's great for the adventurous eater, the vegetarian and the casual diner looking for something new alike. There's something for everyone and if you're looking for something new to try, or if you're like me and want a great Ethiopian experience this is the place for you.
Shenika Patterson
Amazing and Delicious so different and yet tasty I would eat there over and over again. We also received great service
Ben Vittitoe
Every few months my wife and I come here for supper after work. Food has always been good. The flavors are wonderful. I fully recommend going. The only negative I can offer is they can be a bit slower with the first drink. After that, everything flows just fine.
Nathan Froehle
The food was great and unique! You can get dishes served for one or two to share. The bread was plentiful and very tasty and the manager came over to check on us while we were eating. Anyone who likes to try new foods and different types of cuisine should definitely try this place!
Edward Russell II
Wonderful dining experience. Be sure to bring a group and eat traditional style so everyone can try all the fantastic meals. I went with my family (a party of six), was seated almost immediately, and everyone went away saying how much they enjoyed it. We'll definitely be going back.
MaryAnn M.
Definitely a top favorite for local restaurants for sure! My boyfriend and I originally discovered the place after moving within walking distance. Needless to say, we'd walk to and eat here at least once a week. We've since moved, but we still have this place in our rotation of restaurants we regularly visit. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for an intimate setting, the food is always consistent in flavor and resonably priced, and the service is on par...99% of the time. Aside from that minor detail, this place is definitely worth checking out!
Kate Meriwether
I had not had Ethiopian food in 2 years, so was sadly deprived when I walked into Queen of Sheba. That being said, this place was terrific. The service was attentive, and the food was authentic. If you like your kitfo very rare, simply tell them so. If you are new to Ethiopian, never fear. I heard the server helpfully guiding a couple new diners through the menu. You won't be disappointed, and bring a big appetite! Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food. Bring friends you feel comfortable with (or family), because you eat with your hands in the traditional way. They will provide you a fork, but why not get the full experience:)?
Brandon Kendall
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is great. Some items on the menu are spicy, so if that isn't your thing, be sure to let the wait staff know. If you've never had Ethiopian cuisine before, you can't go wrong with one of the samplers from the menu.
Susan McKellep
The most delicious food! My one & only is the Vegetarian Platter. Scooping up bites with a piece of warm injera is part of the fun. Every bite is perfect. The coffee is also delicious, & so very potent!
Great service & great prices are part of the package. This is one of my Top 3 Favorite Louisville Restaurants.
Steve Durr
Best Ethiopian food ever!
Excellent for any celebration. We we're there last night for one of our daughter's birthday supper. There were ten of us in the back room and never once did we have to wait for drink refills or anything. The staff was super attentive and very kind. Besides the great food and the really authentic atmosphere, where else in Louisville are you encouraged to eat with your fingers. This was a really fun experience.
Nick Wideman
Fantastic food. Definitely gotta at least try out the injera, they'll give you silverware too though just in case. Can't wait for the big authentic coffee pots to come back after Covid... Coffee is still awesome nonetheless in the meantime.
Magan Jaramillo
Wonderful! First time eating Ethiopian food, and not disappointed in the slightest. Good portion sizes and incredible flavors. Friendly staff as well. Overall amazing experience.
Lori Morgan
The aromas that hit us the minute we opened the door were just the beginning of a wonderful meal! Our group had never been to Queen of Sheeba and some had never eaten Ethiopian food. I definitely recommend the samplers. Everything was great but we were all able to identify our favorites so that when we come back we might order specific menu items. I highly recommend this restaurant. Keep in mind that it is not your typical fare but we saw families with small children too . There is something for everyone’s palate.
Lauren Joseph
Very unique experience, it was super busy when we went. Dishes had unique flavors that my husband and I really enjoyed. The bread was super different, so just keep an open mind and you will enjoy it :) we will return for sure
Daniel Reis
We got a few things family style. Everything was excellent! I would highly recommend the Kik Wot!
Samantha Ludwig
I absolutely love this place! Amazing food, so fresh, amazing for meat eaters and vegetarian/vegans. The staff was so attentive and kind. Will be returning.
Mr. MC
This is a great restaurant with excellent customer service. My waitresses name is Mya from Nepal and if you are lucky enough to have her serve you...you'll love her. I had the chicken tips and the fish. It was more food than I thought. They make their own ghee and it's awsome.
Erick Monda
Very good food, spicy if you got a weak stomach like me. But I still ate it coz it was really good. The waiter was very helpful. The place is kinda small and space can be limited. However, it is well worth the wait.
Richard Dunn
Hi my name is Rick. My wife and I have been going here for over six years. We love the food. The coffee is really great and we've never had bad service. So I advise you to go - very tasty. Went to Queen of Sheba today, took awhile to get menu, also I asked for coffee never got it, The food we ate was great. But took about thirty minutes to pay check. That was the first trouble we ever hade.
J W
So yummy! The flavors were incredible, portions were great too.
Try the lemon cake!! It's delicious!
Rev. Robin Kay Monk Self
This is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant, hands down! Always great service, great food and great pricing
James Sidell
The first time I've had Ethiopian food was here, and it is still the best I've had thus far. Great vegetarian food, and if you've never been but are curious, there is a large sampler style platter that gives you a taste of several different dishes! I try to make it here every couple of months.
Jon Rollins
Really friendly staff and tasty food. Portions typically come family style for sharing and left more than filled. We did the meat and vegetable combo which while delicious left me craving more meat. Prices are very reasonable.
J. Patrick Spalding
This is my favorite restaurant in Louisville. Must try the coffee! The injera is phenomenal. Cannot go wrong here and its something. Unique dinning flavors and experience. Choose communal and eat with you hands using the injera to make it even better
Marissa Cadavid
Great food that is a unique experience especially for people who have never eaten Ethiopian food. Well seasoned dishes but not too spicy. The service is very attentive and polite.

Usually we start our date nights in Louisville at Harvest..this time we decided to try something new. We we're thrilled with the flavors and overall dining at Queen of Sheba. Friendly staff, nice Honey Wine and dessert to die for. Highly recommend.
Stephanie Ayiku-Teye
Perfect date night! The food was excellent! The waiter was very attentive and helpful in describing/suggesting the menu items! The atmosphere made for a perfect date night: the lighting was nice, and we enjoyed eating by hand off the same plate!
Scott Payne
I absolutely loved this place. Was my 1st time here to eat. My son and his girlfriend brought me here to eat for my birthday. Great food and atmosphere. If you go be prepared to eat with your fingers for the full experience. Definitely will be back!!
Andre A
One of my favorite restaurants in town!
Stephen Frost
If you want a quality restaurant that isn't the run of the mill chain, check this place out. Our waiter was so great! He took the time to explain the entire menu when we told him this was our first time there. The food is excellent!
LM
Love this place it is delicious! Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because service is very slow and they need to hire more staff. Also one of the female servers is very unfriendly and never smiles. Still, the food is great and portions are large so I’m willing to put up with the slow service.
JL Quebbeman
I am an experienced eater of ethiopian cuisine, having first sampled it in Chicago in 1986. Being a big city snob of sorts, I just assumed the best examples of unusual cuisines would always be found in larger, more diverse cities.
Happily, my attitude and opinion regarding this is now forever changed. This local establishment has some of the best ethiopian food I've ever eaten. The injera bread was excellent, with great taste and perfect consistency. The wot's had just the right amount of heat in them and the vegetables weren't overcooked.
The service was attentive and exact. We loved that the manager/owner came to visit our table. We arrived when they opened for lunch and 12 and they had to ask us to leave. My lunching companion enjoyed the food so much she took an entire dinner order home!
If you want to sample a unique and delicious cuisine for just a few shekels this is your place.
Judy Krol
This was my first experience eating ethiopian food. It was amazing! The food was GREAT and the server was very helpful. Great place! I'm only in town for a short while longer but will make it a point to stop in again.
Anthony Maiorana
I think Queen of Sheba is the best Ethiopian restaurant in Louisville. If you are a vegetarian then you will be in heaven here. If you love steak then look no further the steak tips here are addictive.
Pro tip: before asking for more bread try and use the bread they serve the food on to finish your meal. It already is soaked in the flavors of the food and it helps not waste food.
Anthony Georgetti
Ethiopian is one of my favorite cuisines and I have not had Ethiopian food since I moved to Virginia. So when we took a work trip to Louisville, I jumped at the chance to have it again.
Wow, Queen of Sheba did not disappoint!
I ordered the Kifto which couldn't have been more perfect. I asked for it very rare. I was worried they wouldn't do it because restaurants can be cautious about rare meat but they delivered! It was a little spicier than I've had it in the past (my fault because I added the spice in) but I loved the extra heat. If you don't love spice, be cautious in adding the powder but the dish comes at an accessible level for those who like their food less spicy.
My other worry was that my fiance wouldn't enjoy it but the amazing flavors of the dishes and perfectly textured injera one her over. Now Ethiopian is one of her favorite cuisines too.
Seriously considering moving to Louisville...
Brittney Miller
The food is great, portions are large. Sharing the food is fun but the service when we went there was terrible. I ordered the coffee (which states it takes 10-15mins). It came out over 30 mins later, well after we were finished with our food. Our server never checked on us, we had to flag down other servers to get anything we needed. To yourself a favor, get the food to go.
Kyle Haas
An interesting restaurant; one of a kind in this area. Before you make any judgments about Ethopian cuisine, I must say that this is one restaurant that everyone should try--just make sure you bring an open mind and some good company. My favorite meal is the gored-gored, but I haven't had anything on the menu that I didn't like. Just be prepared to eat with your hands and share with your companions. Oh, and bring an empty stomach, because the food is very filling and you'll want to keep eating.
gladys bahamonde
First time here and loved it. Specially the Sambusa and Kosta wrap. The ice tea has a nice hint of anise. Service was great. They helped ua with suggestions and showed us how to eat rhe food. Would come back
Brian Kearns
Brought several people we were travelling with here as their first experience of ethiopian food, and all were pleasantly surprised! Everything was quite tasty, prices were reasonable, and generous portions. Only possible complaint (SUPER PICKY) was that the injera was slightly on the dense side, but that was hardly enough to damper everything else being really awesome. Recommend for sure!
Simon Isham
One of my favorite restaurants in Louisville, and one of the few zones where you will be considered polite when you decline silverware and eat with your hands.
The atmosphere here is moody in the evenings, with low lighting and usually quiet patrons, especially in the back dining room. The service here is a bit of a toss-up: sometimes you'll get someone who is very friendly and attentive; other times you'll get someone who basically ignores you except to bring you your food. Either way, the quality of the meal and the attractiveness of the establishment make up for the sometimes-spotty service.
The vegetarian combo is my go-to, as it contains a good variety of delicious and nutritious foods, and can be ordered for two. It's served on a large piece of injera (bread) with a basket of injera on the side, as well.
The traditional Ethiopian coffee they tout takes a long time to brew, and sort of has a taste that I can only associate with a campfire, but is much different from the Ethiopian coffee available in local coffee shops. It's definitely worth ordering a pot, if just to try it.
This is another restaurant I always tell people they have to try.
Chelsey Hayes
This place is crazy good. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was delicious. Service was great too. I would highly recommend Queen of Sheba to anyone looking for something a little different.
Dennis Birkemeier
I only review if I have an extremely great experience or extremely bad one. EVERY time I eat at Queen Of Sheeba, I am in complete flavor BLISS.
I am a vegetarian and I have had just about every menu option for vegos. .hands down, not only the best Ethopian restaurant in existence, but one of the best restaurants overall you could possibly eat at in Louisville.
Surprise out of town guests with an amazing and personable dining experience, surprise your significant other with a new experience, or just make it your go-to place for some of the best cuisine imaginable.
Just. Amazing food. Period.
Loa Bennett
Astounding injera wraps, savory flavors, textures & presentation. The iconic coffee, transcending decor and shared plate could only be completely traditionalized by offering area rugs for floored seating. Been hearing about this from an Ohio phrynd and well pleased to enjoy a most excellent vegan meal here. After eating here why would anyone want S.tandard A.merican D.iet? My phrynd- excellent, excellent, excellent and great service for one server there.
Shawna Walsh
I have eaten here many times. The service is always great and the food is fantastic. They also serve mead, which I rarely find in louisville but is one of my favorites! Even of you are a little apprehensive about trying foreign food, give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.
Laura Eigelbach
All the dishes in the vegetarian combo are to die for. So, so good. Great atmosphere, really quick take out. One of my top five favorite restaurants in Louisville.
Kaleb Lawton
Thought the food was great. I didn't care for the bread, but everything was excellent. The fish was delicious!
Derek Bauer
This was our first time trying Ethiopian food but defiantly not the last! The food was so rich in flavor it's like nothing else I've ever eaten. Very friendly staff and extremely reasonable prices.
Richard Schnelle
Delicious food, I love the vegetarian combo. It smells wonderful in there.
Venom
A wonderful little place. It is unique. The food is great. The people are polite and friendly. I have eaten there several times and a taken guest who have enjoyed the experience.
Andy Eastes
Great little cozy place where mazzonis used to be across Taylorsville Rd. Lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. And it's fun lots of the dishes you get to dip the bread instead of using utensils! They have dishes the kids will eat too. Service is always fast and courteous.
Adugna Birhanu
This is an excellent restaurant. Better than all Ethiopian reztaurants in Nashville.
Jill Jones
Great food. I definitely recommend the group dinner options. If you don't know what to get have the waitress order for you. The spicy beef, green beans, and cabbage were my favorites!
Liz Prather
Great Ethiopian food. They do a great job on all the standard vegetables and also have some more unique dishes. Berbere sautéed mushrooms were a particular hit with our group. The meat eaters were impressed with the lamb tibs. Service is friendly and relaxed.
Tiz
Fantastic food! Love finding a place with great veggie options, and vegan to boot! Flavors sang and the tea complimented the food too! Coming back for sure, back room is more intimate, liked that too!
Tyler Lipa
I love this restaurant. I highly suggest eatting on the traditional woven basket tables. Injera (Ethiopian bread) is used instead of silverware to eat. Sharing is recommended and very thoughtful. This is a great place for a date as well with a relaxing, romantic atmosphere.
digitalis303
Well the service is not exactly fast paced, the food is worth the wait. My family are vegetarian and there are several dishes that cater to that niche. Ethiopian food may not be everybody's favorite, but I love the spices and the injera bread is something everybody should try at least once. Be prepared, the appropriate way to Ethiopian food is typically by pinching off a piece of injera bread I'm picking up some of the food with it rather than using utensils.
Miles Meidinger
The cuisine was unique and fantastic. I was able to get a dish that came with 6 different things, and was delighted with all of them. If you like to try new things, definitely check this place out!
Bunnee BunBunz
I can not say enough abot this family owned restaurant full of the best flavors and qualities you could ever ask for!! The love and life prepared into each dish is beyond famazing!! I love this place!!
Judson Baker
Excellent food and service. If you're not familiar they will steer you toward the best stuff. Love it!
Amanda Smith
My favorite restaurant on the planet! We live in Lexington but always make the trip for my birthday dinner. The sega wot is indescribably good, there’s nothing else like it 🤗🤗 …
Kimberly “BeginAnew” B
Wanted a really good vegetarian meal that hit the spot. Queen of Sheba didn't disappoint. Well seasoned lentils and vegetables! Awesome service and the place was busy with their lunch crowd.
Carolyn Wade
Food was great. Service was horrible.
Ford Middendorf (Gradford2001)
Great food with plenty of options from vegan and vegetarian lentils to full portioned tasty beef tips. It’s also locally and family run, not to mention the amazing service!
Tomas Baggio
Food is excellent! Nice portion sizes lots of different options, but service was very okay. Slow service, and not everything we asked was done. But the food was amazing

One of the beautiful things about Louisville is the diversity of cultures present. It is this diversity that allows the luxury of trying various cuisines from around the world without having to board a plane. My wife and I are very excited that we've discovered a place as amazing as "Queen of Sheba." It is without a doubt the best meal we've ever had.
We arrived at sundown and from the moment we entered the front door we were eyeing other people's dishes, wondering what they ordered because it looked absolutely amazing. Then we were greeted by our server Amerie. She was very kind and took the time to explain what we were ordering. Queen of Sheba is authentic to their culture and they have kept the menu items with their Ethiopian names but don't let that scare you because they were gracious enough to include translations in their menu and simple discriptions of each dish.
We chose Queen of Sheba because it was listed as one of the healthiest places in Louisville to eat and that's important to us. Queen of Sheba certainly delivers on the healthy and without a doubt delivered on being the most flavorful food experience we've ever had.
I ordered a combination which included Doro wot, Alicha Sega wot, Gomen wot and Atakilt. Everything was enchanting to my senses with unique spices I hadn't experienced before. My wife ordered the Engudai Tips and we both shared the Kitfo wrap appetizer. Everything was prepared with prefection and forced us to continuously move forward towards the next amazing item on the plate.
Ladies and Gentlemen you're in for a memorable experience at Queen of Sheba. They are without a doubt one of the top spots to eat in Louisville and we definitely plan on returning. We called on the owner Selam, so we could tell her just how much we enjoyed our first experience at her restaurant. Selam was very kind and grateful that we had enjoyed her food. It's evident that their food is prepared with the intent of pleasing their customers.
Folks, I give you "Queen of Sheba." Don't miss out!
Rob Edgar
The vegetarian combination is tasty. Ethiopian isn't my favorite ethnic food but we enjoyed it. Service was good and the price isn't bad.
J. B. M. Patrick
Queen of Sheba is an Ethiopian restaurant and probably the best example of Ethiopian food available (to my knowledge) in the Midwest. Both the hosts and servers are incredibly friendly and more than welcome to accommodate their guests; at the same time, servers actually enjoy patiently describing each item off the menu, which is probably necessary when considering the average American's diet.
Although it's not a large building, parking is always easily found, and the interior decorations are well done, with a color palette made of browns and dark red. Each table is marbleized and set with its own candle. It's a perfect venue for a date, and the food itself is more intricate than typical dishes eaten in the US. I'd recommend the Awaze Sega Tips or the Gored-Gored, though both are considered to be rather spicy. Normally, food is served on one big platter, but you may request an individual plate if you want, and most main entrees are served with a side of lentils and injera. Lentils are a popular vegetarian dish, while injera is a grain that absorbs flavor completely as its used to pick up different items off your plate.
Overall, this restaurant is amazing; everyone should give it a chance.
Stephanie Cohn
The queen of sheba is hands down the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. I love Ethiopian and I've tried it in many places but this one is the best! The food has such a rich depth of flavor and I love that it ou have the option o dr dining Ethiopian style (one large platter to share and eating with your hands) or traditional America style (your own plate and utensils.)
Christine Pourheydarian
Healthy, filling food. Felt nice going here for a change and experiencing the food of another culture. Waitress was both knowledgeable, helpful, and confident, which is assuring when trying a new cuisine for the first time.
Reece Bookout
The food is fresh and delicious served by friendly people who are eager to describe how dishes are prepared for those who are interested. It is a fun and beautiful experience all for an excellent price. Truly a Louisville gem.
Melissa DePlanche
Delicious food, the lost a wraps were tasty and the tea is nicely spiced, like chai. I love their Derek tips with lamb, with the teff bread. My favorite restaurant in town.
Avocado Klefot
My first Ethiopian food experience was incredible. I loved everything! Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. I’ll be back for sure.
Eric Lock
Places don't get more authentic. I had A great time here. The food was delicious and the staff were simply top notch! Thanks for a fabulous meal..it was well worth the experience.
Elisabeth Sandoval
My first Ethiopian restaurant and it was amazing. I cannot wait to go back. Great tasting food and great vegetarian and vegan options. Highly recommend this place.
Nick Hellmich
The food is so good. I always order the Derek tips but everything else I've sampled has been amazing. I'm in love with awaze! Check this place out, you'll love it.
Maitreya Tom
Best Ethiopian food in town. Plenty of meat and meat-free dishes. They always have a meat and a vegetarian special.
Ethiopian food is traditionally eaten with your hands, but they will provide utensils if requested. The injera can be substituted for rice (but why would you want to? Their injera is delicious!)
They also do carry out and catering.
Keisha Alexander
Warm food and quick service. Tasty and authentic! Lots of food for the money.
Adam Black
I just got some Sambousa to go along with my Shwarma from AlWatans. They were good Sambousa but not the seasoning or flavor I was looking for. I wanted the Middle Eastern spices and these were obviously Ethiopian. Very good though.
Ethan Groce
I am no Ethiopian Expert (which should surprise absolutely no one), but if I were, I would heartily recommend this establishment for authentic Ethiopian cuisine!
For a white guy who likes to think he's cultured, I was downright giddy when I first laid eyes on Injera. A friend who had accompanied me first thought the rolled-up Injera was a napkin!
Speaking of friends, what I love most about this establishment are the menu options that serve 2-4 guests. Enjoying the Combination Dishes together with family and friends can be quite enjoyable. This is due primarily to the fact that tearing a piece of Injera from the platter and using it as your utensil can be at once practical and humorous.
My sole complaint regarding Queen of Sheba is not even a culinary one! Simply put, the seating arrangement here is not well thought-out. During its busy periods, you can feel as though you're being taken through a maze on your way to be seated. Once you sit, however, the atmosphere is comfy.
Do yourself a favor and try the Ethiopian Coffee (which is served in a clay pot). It is said the coffee plant originated in Ethiopia, so it's a special treat to think upon that as you sip your own cup of it.
Christopher Freeman
Good food, good prices.
Dustin Warren
Fantastic atmosphere. Great curry. The injera is spongy awesomeness. Definitely a great place, 11/10.
Douglas Dever
Love from your family, admiration from your peers, and kik wot from Queen of Sheba: these are the most important things in life. I have never had anything from here that I haven't obsessed over and swore an oath to name my first born after. The waitstaff is always really chill and the food is always incredible.
Patrick Draus
A deliciously exotic experience. If you're new to Ethiopian food try a combination dish and a glass of Sheba Tej (dry honey wine). Save room for dessert.
Maurice J. Woodson
We traveled from Indianapolis to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and found this restaurant to be very nice. The staff was very friendly and the food was wonderful. We plan to return again!
Kate Denny
Queen of Sheba is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Louisville. So much so, in fact, I eat there multiple times a week. The service is great--the people that work there truly care about the place as well as their customers. The only thing better has got to be the cuisine--DELISH! Being a vegetarian is often stressful at restaurants.. "hold the..." or "..with no..on it" is normal. It's is so very nice to be able to order something off of the menu without modifying it! The kik wot is amazing if you like spicy food. However, if you aren't into spicy, the atakilt is also to die for. Any vegetarian that walks through that door MUST try the vegetarian combo. Great value--it ends up being more than one meal.
I'll be there next week! YUM!
Hope Stormm
Nice place, good food, interesting scenery, in city, very interesting eating experience, hot food, good customer service and nice variety of food. Would recommend a definite must for an interesting eating experience. Limited parking, but don't let that hinder your going
Joshua Lewis
Best restaurant hands down!! If you love a good flavorful food, Ethiopian is awesome! I recommend getting the combo dishes to try a bit of everything.
Ian Jobling
Service was slow, but once it got there a spicy meal served on the traditional mesob with a delicious Ethiopian honey wine.
sagar Utturkar
Amazing food, great service! I loved the vegetarian sambusa. I had chicken and vegetarian combo and both entries were great. Highly recommended.
Kat Bourlotos
I have never had Ethiopian food anywhere but here. It is delicious, however. I am vegetarian and my non-vegetarian boyfriend and I make up excuses to go here. :)
reba C
Food, service, vegan options, gluten free options... all top notch! Been going to QofS since they were on Bardstown Road (across the street from the Toy Tiger, lol) Shout out to Paul who always makes time to say hello and make sure our dining experience is a pleasure. Try it!!
Makenna Gooldy
Best food I’ve ever had. The iced tea was unreal! Your staff is so sweet. Wishing you all success!
Brenda G. Sizemore
I had some sort of chicken dish that was good, can't remember what it was called. This sure was a different dining experience for me. You use your bread to pick up your food with so you eat with your hands.
Marian Cash-Rose
We love Queen of Sheba and drive 3 hours round trip JUST to eat their food! It has been a family favorite for 17 years!

Very good food. You eat in the traditional Ethiopian manner (with your hands) and the combination plate was plenty of food for 2 people.
Christopher Hill

leslie ewing
Love Ethiopian food? Queen of Sheba has delicious, well-seasoned food that is served in a traditional style with the various dishes on a communal tray of injera, which is a spongey bread made with teff, a gluten-free grain. You eat without utensils, by tearing off a piece of injera and using that to scoop up the food. If this is not how you wish to eat, they will serve individual meals on a plate and supply you with fork and knife. If you want more heat, they will bring out a spice mix for you to blend to suit your own taste.
The menu features several vegetarian meals in addition to their meat-based meals. As for beverages, Ethiopian tea, coffee and honey wine are offered, along with a short selection of domestic and imported beers and wines. Children can choose more familiar foods with less spice. If you are on a gluten-free diet, ask the staff if their injera is made with only teff.
Robert Magers
The food is amazing. Although it is simple, in style: delicious bread and traditional stews, it is complex with layers of distinct flavor.
Michael Bender
Always a fantastic Ethiopian 🇪🇹 culinary experience. Good desserts too. …
Jason Hapner
I've been to queen of sheeba many times, and recommend it to anyone. Its close atmosphere, and traditional Ethiopian style service makes for a great unique date venue.
Lyle Mantooth
I haven't found anything here I didn't like. Their combination entrees make deciding what to get a little easier.
Friendly service, good value, and wonderful food!
Nicholas Searcy
The engadai tips are awesome. Make sure and get your food served on the injera bread. Sometimes they will ask newcomers if this is what you want and if you don't know any better, you might ask for it on a plate. But go for the injera, it's more authentic and it's tasty.
Joseph Kronz
Don't expect to get your To-Go order any quicker because you called it in. That has been my experience most times. Great food if you dine in.
Mushfiqur Rahman
