Reviews of Proof On Main
Deven Warmack
We ate here twice. The first time was good but nothing to write home about. The bison burger had good flavor but the fries were off. The second night, the food was excellent! Our waitress was fantastic! She interacted with all of us- asking us questions and answering our questions. The staff is all friendly and helpful too.

Great food and fun atmosphere. Fantastic bourbon selection and attached to a cool art gallery that we roamed around in. Celebrated my birthday in a private room with 20 of my best friends! Best is we got a special penguin and bear to dine with us too.

AMAZING restaurant! I can’t say enough incredible things about this place. This is the second time we’ve been here (last time was in September on a different trip to Louisville). Brand new menu tonight, and Alex was super patient with us and very knowledgeable. Homemade tonic makes amazing gin and tonics. Top 3 dishes are kefta appetizer with layered flavors all coming together well, citrus mousse for dessert was divine, and side dish cauliflower that had a sauce that was out of this world. We will come back here every time we come to town.

One of the most chic restaurants I've ever dined at. The fact that you can eat a yummy meal and then check out an entire art gallery all in the same place is amazing.
Staff was kind and prompt with our food. The food itself was high quality and at a decent price. Would really recommend everyone giving this place a shot.

The food here is amazing! The charred octopus for a starter was delicious. The grilled pork chop was cooked to perfection. The cornbread was the best I’ve ever had. It could have actually been a dessert. Great whisky list. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Be sure to walk around in the lobby and check out the art. Highly recommend.

When you step inside the restaurant, the vibe that it gives off is this kind of artsy hipster meets fancy dining. I love how this restaurant gives the waiters and waitresses the freedom to dress how they want and not make them wear a uniform. I love how simple the menu is and it kind of gives you the impression that the restaurant will cater to foodies with a sophisticated palate. But it seems as if they failed...epically.
As we were going over the menu we found ourselves to not be so excited. We were pretty underwhelmed by what was on the menu.
The highlight of our experience was the appetizers. We started off with some cornbread and duck appetizers which were divine. However everything else that came after was such disappointment. The duck entree was so unappetizing that I had to send it back. The plating for the bison burger was just unappetizing. It looked as if a cafeteria lady had just slapped together a burger and fries. Where is the locally made greens? (or just any greens for that matter)
On a positive note, the customer service was just outstanding and our waitress was the absolute best. They provided us with complimentary carrots (which we were also were not pleased with as well but they were complimentary, so....🤷♀️).
Overall I was not impressed by Proof on Main.

Excellent bar service and mixology. Our bartender handled herself with class and expertise during the busy brunch hour, while making conversation, offering drink order suggestions, and keeping pace with the endless drink orders! First class all the way, would definitely recommend for drinks, a night out, or brunch! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This place was recommended by a local. It's a really cool concept with potential. The energy was way off though the night we visited. The valet couldn't drive a stick shift. We got there early as recommended, to order a cocktail while perusing the art and waiting for our table. It was slow, but the bartenders borderline rudely ignored us. After we said there for 4-5 minutes, we finally called someone standing there doing nothing to help us. They were both unhelpful with cocktail choices and selections when asked about local bourbons in our drinks. The menu was limited, exotic and expensive. Our waiter was friendly, but extremely scarce, forgot to take our order. Didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks. We had to ask someone else to find him for him for our check and a box. Won't go back.

The atmosphere was great! It's connected to an art museum with interesting bathrooms. The mirrors have eyeballs looking at you.
The food at Proof was very good but the selection was poor. There are more vegetarian options than meat options. The charcuterie board has no meat and the fettuccine has no meat which is disappointing. Great drink selections and the skillet cornbread is incredible!

Among my favorite “night on the town” spots in Louisville. Attached the 21c hotel and art gallery(a must and for free), the restaurant & bar posses unique decor with gourmet meals. We had the No Spectators and LID at the bar which were superb, would recommend
Lora Klacik
This restaurant/ bar is delightfully decorated. Your belly and your eyes will leave happy. The charcuterie board was amazing!
Melissa Laird
Came for a work dinner and had a great time. Service was fantastic, food delicious, and everyone was patient with all of our chatting. Definitely will bring guests here again.

Wow what a wonderful restaurant! From our first encounter with Patty our server, to paying the bill, it truly was a wonderful experience. The food selections are limited but very ample. It's tough to make the choice between the appetizers, shareables and sides. All are as delicious as they sound. We took Patty's advice and got the grilled octopus shareable, the country fried rabbit, the heritage chicken roulade, and the 3D pork chop entrees, with the Wiesenberger grits side dish. None of it disappointed. All of this was topped off by the wonderful service and smile from Patty, as well as the other service that assisted. If I'm ever back in Louisville, I'll be there.

Definitely recommend for brunch! Had the "No Spectators" and my friend had the "Chai Fidelity"- both cocktails were fantastic! For meals we had the fruit and nut granola, hearty breakfast has, and the fried chicken sandwich.
ALL amazing! As if that wasn't enough, they served me a butternut squash cheesecake for my birthday. OMG- everything was so so so so good. Oh and the bar area had one of the Pappy bourbons and a bottle of the "Handy". The museum made any wait we had for our table more than worth our time.
Brian Montana
We had a great experience, the charcuterie board and cauliflower were delicious, and I would recommend it to anyone. The bar area is dog friendly too.
Arianne Beatty
great space with an attentive, friendly staff. The food was phenomenal. For brunch I had the crab cake and my mom had the breakfast sandwich, both were phenomenal. Adding this to our brunch rotation
Dane Brehm
This restaurant screams Decor with very artful and contrasting colors. Great dining experience for 6 or less. I highly recommend the Duck Breast, while my co-diners enjoyed the Bison Burger. If your male checkout the 2 way mirror waterfall in the bathroom. It's a trip!
Jessica Rae Stephens
Wonderful service, food, and beverages -- all of the recommendations were delicious, including cocktails that weren't listed on the menu (so, don't be shy to ask). The cornbread mash with the pork (which was very tender and perfectly cooked) was unique and scrumptious!
Vidhi Narine
Delicious food and cool decor. Make sure to check out the art gallery on your way to the bathroom.
Andrew Horsfall
Love the atmosphere and cool vibes. This place would make a great date night since the bar and drink menu are fantastic. You could then check out the gallery afterward. We ate dinner though, which was probably a mistake. We ordered the chicken roulade, rabbit and steak entrees, along with the octopus as a starter and the baklava (if you can call it that) for dessert. The only items we enjoyed were our cocktails and the octopus. Everything else was just bland or blah! The wait staff were absolutely wonderful. Fully recommend checking this place out (for drinks!).
Bruce Almighty
Toured the always amazing museum, and then asked if we could be sat a little earlier than our reservation. Brian was very gracious and helpful, as well as knowledgeable, and it was a wonderful early dinner. We had been craving the bison burgers, which were outstanding! We also tried the mushroom app Brian suggested, and it was divine I suppose is the word. Also had the grits appetizer, which my date loved almost as much as the burger. Oh, and btw, the fries were absolutely perfect. Light colored, perfectly seasoned, but completely crisp , each one. A small thing for them, but indicating a really well run kitchen to us.
Kabilliam Kabilliam
Delicious food and cocktails inside a museum. This place is phenomenal. Get dressed up, have a few drinks and wander through the museum. The collection is super neat. (The men's bathroom is not to missed.) Large portions of well thought out food. Balanced cocktails and a fun staff. I will go back next time I'm in Louisville.
Matthew Milner
The atmosphere was pretty cool. Felt very boujie. Service was good. Good selection of bourbon. The charred octopus starter was really great, which is a shame because the mains were just okay. The crispy salmon was good, but the lentils and risotto were nothing special. One of us should have got the duck. Overall I thought it was just a little too pricey. I would come here again for the atmosphere, drinks, and that octopus.
Robert Fury
The service was not good at all. We sat in the bar, ordered our food, the food arrived, but after that the service stopped. The waitress was not friendly. She didn’t ask us if we wanted another drink. She didn’t take the empty plates and glasses from our table. She never came back to our table to take our entree order. It was our wedding night, so we just popped across the street and got better service. The food might have been good, but except for the appetizer we had (which was good) we’ll never know.
Jdub Jordan
Really enjoyed proof on main. The charred octopus is a must have. The environment was really nice and got to explore the art gallery next door as well.
AMI CHAVEZ
I work a block away from this restaurant and have been wanting to check it out for a while. After finally going, my only regret is that I haven't gone sooner!
Tonight, Proof on Main won the trifecta of restaurant excellence...
Unique ambiance, attentive customer service, and quality food & drinks (their craft cocktails are delicious:)
Big thanks to Mark, Brian, Annette, kitchen crew, and all the other staff that helped to make our evening enjoyable!
The quality of this restaurant far outweighs the price, so do not hesitate if you are thinking about coming here.
P.S. they have the coolest bathrooms in Louisville!!
Jay Grieves
A great place for both food and cocktails! Proof on Main has an extensive bourbon collection and skilled bartenders. The food is delicious and there's something for everyone on the menu. As an added bonus, it's attached to 21c Museum Hotel, so there's an art gallery right outside the door in the lobby.
Justin Gee
So I’ll start by saying - the food was fantastic. The octopus is as good as advertised, the pork was incredibly tender and full of a ton of flavor.
But the service left a lot to be desired. Friendly, yes. But it took almost 40 Minutes to get our appetizers(octopus and hummus), took way too long for our second drink, and took wayyyyyyy too long to just to pay the check. And it was not that busy….at least on our side at least. Maybe under staffed for the night? I could tell the party next to us felt the same about the incredibly slow service. I would’ve expected more from such a highly rated restaurant.
The food saved it - no questions asked. I will say the Crostini for the bread was definitely a bit burnt, not so much charred. The flavor of the octopus redeemed it for sure. Would definitely recommend the food and the art - but would definitely warn about the service.
Liz Honeysett
Incredible location. Totally amazing vibe. The food was wonderful. I had 3 different vegetarian dishes, plus the burrata. Everything was crafted with care and creativity.
Ankit Gupta
Great food, amazing service. We got an side of greens to replace fries with our sandwiches and they were kind enough to offer us some extra vinaigrette upon request.
The fried chicken sandwich is amazing. Also try their grilled cheese and tomato soup
Austin Zulauf
I had an important meeting at Proof so I called ahead and spoke with Brian to make a reservation. He sat us at the PERFECT table, gave us IMPECCABLE service and we both agreed we could’ve have asked for anything more and we’ll be back SOON! I had the Afterglow drink with the rabbit and my guest had their version of an old fashioned with gnocchi alone with the mushrooms…OUTSTANDING!!
Isaac Kirbawy
The octopus, hummus, and crispy mushrooms were amazing. The charcuterie and cheese plate was over-priced and nothing special. My entree (pork chop) was very good but way overcooked. Overall, it was a good experience with some room for improvement. I'd come here again.
Ashkan Afshari
The food was the only thing that saved our experience here. Very slow service, took over 45 min to get our drinks and these we're some complicated cocktails, wine and bourbon neat! Then got double charged for an order. After letting the server know, they correct it telling us they would remove both charges but instead they did wrong math and our bill grew. Finally the manager owned up to it and comped drinks and wrong orders. Might of just been a rough night for them.
Kathy Boggs
The drinks were great, the food was fine. I ordered chicken which was cooked nicely but could have been seasoned a bit more. Other people raved over their gnocchi, polenta and pork chops. The dessert was phenomenal. A dreamsicle swiss roll with crunchy white chocolate and sweet, tart fresh citrus fruit on top The bathrooms and art are very cool. The staff was very kind, funny and efficient
Sam T
Some of the best fries I've ever had. The bison burger was cooked perfectly and the burrata was very yummy. The drink I had was also delicious.
David Chiasson
This was a fantastic experience. The ambience, the food, the drinks, and the service were top notch. Take your time to enjoy the art gallery as well before taking in the art that is their food as well!
Candace Harmon
So good!! Duck breast was tender and delicious. Asparagus had a kick. Cornbread was buttery and sweet that was balanced with thinly sliced green onions. Service was a little slow but it was so delicious I didn't care.
Frank Luongo
Overall a good meal. We really enjoyed it, but not spectacular and definitely not a 4.5 rating – more like a 3.6/ 3.7. However, it is a strong choice for a nice meal and drinks. I would choose Proof for its drinks and the bar rather than the food selection.
Located in the 21c Gallery Hotel the setting is really cool and fun. The walls and ambiance all add to the decor. The restaurant, however, does not seem to fit this style with the booths, tables and seats being more in line with a chain or or mid-level eatery.
The bar has very good and unique drinks and the bartender was a skilled mixologist and cool for conversation. We really enjoyed the mixed drinks. They made a delicious paper airplane. Their selection of whiskies and bourbons was respectable.
The waitstaff for the restaurant had a bit of an attitude. They were ok after chatting with them for a bit, but first impressions were less than inviting.
The bathrooms are really cool and very clean. They have one wall with a water fall that allows one to see outside. A bit of a surprise at first and definitely causes one to take a look outside to verify that it is indeed one way. Really cool effect.
The menu is limited, but in these times that is to be expected. That being said, some of the items needs a bit of attention.
—The octopus has great spices. It was a little too crispy on the ends and way too salty - they did very well with spices and just confused salt with taste... take away the salt and it will be good.
—The burger patty was delicious and cooked as ordered. The bun, however, was not great. It wasn’t crispy with the lower portion turning into mush, not sure about the type of bread – it could have been better to match the fantastic meat. The sauce was nice, but it lacked something. It was just ok. The fries were not great. A little flaccid, we were able to find some crispy ones- the seasoning was nothing spectacular- really needed something for this plate to stand out.
—The Pork Chop was again ok. The meat was done well and juicy, but was a little bland. The hominy and other side spices was fantastic. It really helped the dish. It was good, but nothing worth noting.
We had a good meal, but the quality was not there for the price.
Robert Warren
Had a really nice brunch here. The service and the food was great the atmosphere was unique with some original wall hangings including a couple of buffalo. The restaurant is attached to a hotel with a very unique museum. The only drawback to me was the amount of room there was. The tables were so crammed into the space with very little room for the guests or the wait staff to move. I'd definitely go back.

This was the best meal I had during my 3 day trip to Louisville. I feel like many of the Google reviews are extremely generous for most restaurants downtown with sooo many rated 4.x +. This place had an amazing theme and decor being part of the 21C museum hotel. Although choices are limited, the faire is well prepared and served up nicely by a professional staff of servers. Cocktails were top notch. A fresh take on burrata atop earthy bread with sauteed oyster mushrooms was surprisingly delicious and elegant. At $56 for a steak, I expect a dry aged cut, but the prime strip I had was tender, properly cooked and overall tasty. Come for the food and ambiance, stay for the cocktails.
Lance Collins
Fantastic food , great cocktails and wonderful art and decor. Our server Lennon was amazing and he also gave us a great wine recommendation to pair with our food. We will definitely visit again our next time in Louisville !
Jennifer Fox
We came here twice.
Four stars after an update and for the second visit on a Friday afternoon. Plenty of seats at the bar, cocktails were entertaining to watch being made, the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and the pork cheeks were decent. Bathroom is in the museum downstairs.
That said, I think this is a one off scenario. I would have rated one star based on the first visit. We didn't have a reservation and wait for a table was an hour and a half, but there were multiple free tables. This was a Thurs night. Went to the bar and seats were full. A group were sitting in the front corner and told a lady who sat next to them, we don't know you and instructed her to leave. After she left, I sat in that chair, but they didn't say a word (probably because my husband is large) and then they left. We finished our drinks and left turned off by that group.
Side note - I love the artwork.
James Babb
Food was uneven. Steak and bison were terrific. Chicken was mediocre. Crispy mushrooms and marbled potatoes were a big hit. Bartender was very accommodating
Tori Daniels
We decided to come here last minute for our anniversary dinner. For a Tuesday night it was busy, but not overly crowded. The environment was very comfortable and lively while still being an upscale, romantic experience and a bit moody with the lighting and decor. Service was wonderful and the food was absolutely amazing! We loved both our dishes. I am vegan so I got the spaghetti squash and mushroom ragout which comes vegan as it is. My husband got the bison burger. We loved them both, and HE actually loved my dish better than his! It was incredible, wonderfully flavored, and so much food. 10/10! We got a desert which my husband loved (no vegan dessert options), but then they bring cotton candy with the check! Cute touch. We ended the evening walking around the 21c gallery connected to the restaurant. Check this place out!

Thanksgiving dinner was excellent. Really enjoyed the fact that the background music was truly background music allowing for conversation without shouting at each other. Highly recommended for a special night out.
Max Upp
Really great spot. Got a table in the bar and our waiter took great care of us. Buffalo burger was awesome and the tamarind Diaz was excellent. Would recommend! Soup was also sooo so good
Alvin Cortner
Awesome restaurant with a flare beyond compare! From the moment you walk in you can tell you're in for a special treat. The drink selection is fantastic and the service is top notch. The people working here really understand that the overall experience is what matters. The food selection is diverse and delicious. If you're in town make sure you stop by and visit. See if you can find the pink penguin...

Brought my wife for her birthday. Our server Lennon was amazing. The food and drinks were also great. I highly recommend if you are in Louisville.
Winnie
Good food and many art decorations.
They have a lot of art displayed throughout the restaurant. Even before you enter the restaurant, there is a statue/sculpture outside.
The food was good. They had their own take on already unique menu items, such as bone marrow and octopus. They have a seasonal menu so ask the waiter/waitress to recommend dishes on the current menu.

After Event Dinner
We attended an event within walking distance so I made reservations for 8:15 and we arrived at 8:00 and were promptly seated. We ordered the Beet Salad to share and the problems started with ordering a main entree and side. The server recommended the Cast Iron Pork Chop to my husband and I just couldn't bring myself to order the pasta dish at such a price so I opted for the Shrimp Roast; however, the Cast Iron Pork Chop was already gone so he ordered the Steak Strip Medium. The Beet Salad is very good and the wait staff periodically checked in on us; however, after placing our meal order with the addition of Carrots it took over an hour to get our dinner course. There were large groups there but I don't remember the last time we waited for over an hour to get our meal. We had no other plans so we didn't make a scene except to reflect our disappointment through this review. The steak was not as ordered and came pretty rare but that was on my husband since he should have sent it back. The Shrimp Roast was so salty I just about couldn't eat it. Yes, I should have sent it back but I used the roasted lemon and juiced it all over the dish to tame the excess salt. For a dining experience at this price point I certainly expected more. The art is interesting and the restaurant is lively but they really missed the mark with the food and wait time. I don't see us returning.
Ellen Warner
Perfect lunch experience! The welcome when we arrived, the beautiful dining room, the excellent food, and the friendly and engaging staff - we loved it all. We shared a salad and an entree, because we weren’t looking for a heavy lunch, and they split everything without being asked to do so. The spicy fried chicken was so delicious! What a great place for friends, family, business dining, whatever!
Wiley Account
Went for a birthday party, atmosphere was nice, choices of food limited ( pandemic?) Carrot soup was good most every thing else was overcooked and over garnished, alitte overrated overall.
Lyle Cameron
This place is like no other in all the best ways. The Executive Chef down to the awesome dishwashers all perform exquisitely. The front of house is always ready to greet you with a warm welcome, and the food is to die for. My grandmother was in absolute awe at how perfect yes PERFECT everything was.
Rebecca Clement
Awesome service and great food. I got the shrimp and grits which was very tasty! The grits had a little taste of smokiness which I was a big fan of. Very tasty! I also ordered the non-alcoholic sweet ginger breeze which supports the local shelter:) also very refreshing. our server was awesome. He gave us excellent local recommendations, taught us how to say louisville and was very friendly. Will definitely go back if I can.
Libby Ballengee
What a cool bar! So unique and a definite must stop if you’re checking out downtown Louisville. A “don’t miss” for anyone who loves art, especially. Very tasty cocktails too! Yum yum. We enjoyed the bourbon flight there. Friendly bartenders too! A pleasant surprise in a place that could easily be pretentious.

Proof on Main is a very nice restaurant located in the 21c Museum hotel and complete with, what we assume are, common elements at all the restaurants in the various 21c Museum hotels (we were at the Nashville one earlier in this trip) including EXCELLENT food and drinks, cotton candy with a color unique to this hotel, and a smattering of giant red penguins (blue in Nashville!) who will join you for dinner!
We were in town for 2 nights and sat at a table with our local friend for hours (we kept monitoring the room to make sure there was at least one empty table to make sure we weren’t keeping anyone else from being seated) and the staff was VERY friendly and accommodating throughout our time there.
I started with the Smoke Rings Cocktail (it was mandatory [in my mind] that every drink in Kentucky was bourbon based, if not straight up Bourbon. This one was made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, PF Dry Curacao, Ramazzotti Amaro, Lapsang Souchang Tea, and C&K Absinthe) - OK, I mean absinthe and Bourbon, together at last! This was really really with a perfect smokey favor, the right amount of sweet, and an impressive giant ice cube in the middle.
I also had the Chilled Carrot Soup (Another common element amongst the various 21c Hotel restaurants is a different chilled soup in the summer) This wasn’t sweet like I thought it might be, but had lots and lots of flavors, all good…This was a unique to eat a soup where different bites tasted differently…I liked it a lot.
The bread and butter service was good for me and they were nice enough to bring gluten free bread for the the two GF eaters I was with. They didn’t love the gluten free bread, but were happy it was offered.
Their menu is seasonal (which is always a sign of an awesome restaurant.) I had the Ricotta Cavatalli pasta dish (no longer on the menu as I write this). It was also really good with lots of flavor, perfectly cooked pasta, and a nice lemon flavor to it. Also it was beautifully presented!
My wife had the Roasted Heirloom Squash - She said “Last Year’s Tomato Jam” was the star of this nice and satisfying dish. She thought the tamale part tasted good but the consistency was slightly off for being called a tamale…a little too wet/thin. (Hey were from Southern California…the home of Mexican food so we have high standards here.
Other vegetarian options were available, including cheeses, grits and various veggie sides.
I closed out with the Raspberry Fig Mousse dessert which sounded and was amazing…a lavender honey infused house made gelato…a thin pretzel-like (but sweet) cracker surrounding the fig mousse. Very very very good. (Note the three “verys” Often desserts at fine dining restaurants don’t live up to the rest of the food. That was not the case here. This was excellent.
We loved everything about our experience here and are excited to check out other 21c Museum hotels and restaurants wherever they may be. Oh multi-colored penguins of the world…we’re coming for you.
Scott Shrewsberry
Absolutely amazing place. Only our second time eating here, but both times have been fabulous.
KEVIN GEAR
An amazing experience. While my wife disagreed, the only issue I had with my dish, the baked 1/2 chicken with risotto and greens, is that it seemed a bit heavy on the citrus notes. Other than that small issue on my part, the rest of the meal was a wonderful. The vibe was classy Sunday dinner in your grandma's quirky dining room, while alternative music plays from the speakers, and the tatted waitstaff bring your food. That is the only way I can describe this place, and that is not meant as a slam against the restaurant. The staff was beyond professional with suggestions and service, and I can't praise this place enough.
Also, their bourbon menu is not to be missed.

Short Review
Get the DAMN BISCUIT! Don't forget to ask for extra butter and jam! #CarryOn
Long Review
Great location and we'll decorate restaurant which is attached to a cool museum as well.
The service was friendly and knowledge especially with allergies.
But let's be clear of you come to this place and don't eat the biscuit, you have made a mistake.
We will be back for sure whenever we are in town.
david hernandez
This is fancy restaurant with fair prices for the portions. I saw other reviews of people complaining about prices but you have to think about where is located, the service they provide and the quality of their food. For me, I have a great experience, I was there for brunch and order the brunch special which is the fried chicken on waffle with peach and chilly I think. The mix between the sweet and hot was perfect. The waffle wasn’t dry like other places, and I’m not a waffle fan, but this one was excellent. The term of the fried chicken makes the whole plate taste fantastic. I hope they keep this on their menu. My wife Oder the proof Benedict, the eggs were cooked perfect, it wasn’t hard neither juicy that make the plate have the egg on everything. This was the perfection of the Benedict eggs. The flavor of the red eye hollandaise mix make the plate taste more flavorful. I also saw they have a Puertorrican drink called Soñando con Puerto Rico, my country, and I tried. I have to say, the gin with papaya and the other mix remind me of the flavors of my island. It was a perfect drink to have with my brunch.
Average for all I have to recommend this place. I definitely will be back.

We enter this restaurant bar through the museum hotel. The interior design of the restaurant and the hotel is catptivating. We came here for dessert after dinner. The chocolate cake is scrumptious and so as the butterscotch and the cheese plate.
Christine Graham
Our dinner here was a really great experience. It is a small menu, but each item is so unique and fully thought through. The decor is so eye catching and interesting, the service was helpful and friendly. I had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly, and my colleague had the pork chop which was beyond delicious. I never knew pork could be so tender and flavorful. Also, they give you cotton candy with your check, which I thought to be a really cute touch! It's very clear why this restaurant is on every top restaurant list in Louisville.
Brent Bankes
The art alone is worth a trip to this place. It's covered in eclectic modern art with inspiration from old Kentucky. The food was also delicious and well priced. We went during a weekday lunch and it was mostly a business crowd. Made us wish we would have dressed a bit nicer(we had shorts and tshirts) but the friendly staff were engaging and made us feel at home.
Andrew Mathewes
What a wonderful dinner in a marvelous space! Get the octopus for sure, you can skip the strawberry poptart. My hen was delicious, and my wife went with mushrooms, grits, and broccoli for her main. Finished it off with a tasty smoke rings cocktail while sauntering through the museum
Tia O'Connor
In Louisville for work and had the pleasure of stopping in this restaurant for brunch on a Saturday. AND I’M SO GLAD I DID!!! The food was AMAZING and the service was impeccable! Not to mention there is a beautiful gallery attached to the restaurant!! This is a must experience place if visiting Louisville

Great bison berger. The roasted carrots served with the goat cheese and honey was a revelation. I could not believe carrots could taste that good. The best was the different flights of Kentucky bourbons and whiskeys. Highly recommend a visit.
Brian Tuorto
Fun and eclectic place. Good cocktails. Very accommodating and informative service. Didn't try the food but it looked great coming out. Worth dropping in for sure!

Meet "Proof On Main", a hip restaurant crossed with an art hall featuring tasty dishes and a large bourbon selection - we expect nothing less out of Kentucky's best! I highly recommend trying the "Chicken Fried Pork Cheeks" or their "House Made Sausage". For a cocktail, I loved their "Double Sided Tape": michter’s us-1 bourbon, bigallet china-china
great king street glasgow scotch, orange honey olio, molasses bitters.
For bourbon, try their "Barrel Proof" flight: Maker's Mark - Cask Strength, Wild Turkey - Rare Breed, and Stagg Jr.

Amazing. The PLT was amazing, and they were really kind and proactive about replacing the side salad dressing with nut free creamy Park dressing. PLT is definitely a knife and fork sandwich, but delicious. Would come back for it. Salmon sandwich was open faced and fresh. Bread was the star. Also, I found the brewery I’ve been searching for randomly at this place, so extra stars. Our waiter was amazing, kind, personable, and helpful. Will be back.

The salad was amazing! The smelt was lovely. Maybe I was super hungry, but the portions seemed small. But the staff was terrific and the rest of the food was tasty.

We were in town to help some friends move into their new apartment and went to Proof on Main for dinner. The ambiance was very nice and it felt like a really upscale but very welcoming to four people who had been moving furniture for hours. Our server, Lou, was great, very friendly and personable and explained the food sources (mostly local and from their own farm!) and menu very well. There's a huge drink list and a number of local brews to choose from. We had the charred octopus, whipped ricotta, and bones as apps. The octopus was slightly on the salty side, but were very good, slightly charred but still tender. The whipped ricotta was served with bread and was delicious. And the bone marrow was fatty and meaty and just great, served with a refreshing green salad and carrots. For dinner, I had the beef option, which turned out to be strip steak with crispy potatoes and mushrooms. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth medium rare with a beautiful char. The potatoes were really awesome, thinly sliced, stacked and served in a rectangle of crispy, creamy goodness. For dessert, I went with the Key Lime Bar, great tang from the lime, and the crust was crunchy but overly so. A wonderful meal and definitely a place we'll be visiting again.

Our favorite meal and stop on our Louisville trip! Attached to a very cool hotel to explore, the restaurant is equally interesting to explore. The eggs in purgatory were simply perfect, and luckily my table wanted to share the French Toast because it was a great way to end the meal.
Our waitress was wonderful, brought a penguin statue over to our table for the 2 year old dining with us, and kept our coffees full. Later we found out it was her first day at work!

We ate brunch on a busy Saturday. The wait without reservations would have been an hour, but they suggested eating in the lounge area where four of us immediately found seats. Service was not really fast as the place was very busy. Still, the food was very good and interesting. I ate a burnt brisket tips and potato hash with two eggs on top. Very savory and more of a stew than hash. Two of the party had tasty tomato soup and grilled cheese. One of the grilled cheese could have been warmer but still was good. One of the group had the burger and enjoyed it. Overall, a very tasty and above average meal.

My husband and I came here the Sunday after the Derby. It's a trendy bar with very interesting, unique and comical artwork displayed throughout (not to mention the fabulous art gallery/hotel lobby it's connected to). We ordered the octopus, meat balls and broccoli. The food was really good. For drinks, we both ordered Before Midnight. It was absolutely flavorful and delicious and we learned that it was crafted by the bar tender who was serving us. Actually all of the bar staff contributed to the creation of the drinks on the menu, which I though was cool. Our only complaint is that on the cocktail menu, Before Midnight, is shown as made with Barrel bourbon. That's why we were inclined to order it. But our drinks were made with Forester Bourbon, which is a big difference in quality from Barrel. Maybe the cocktail menu should be updated.

Such unique items on the menu. Our table started with the smoked octopus and pimento cheese spread & were provided with GF bread at our request. We each had a different entree option which we all enjoyed! Our server was responsive and attentive without intruding on our time together. Mimosas were a bit weak, as personally more champagne is appreciated over orange juice. We had reservations which allowed us to be seated immediately so if you are able to, plan ahead. Definitely a must for brunch!

I'm vacillating between three stars and four. We had dinner on a Friday evening, with reservations for 11. Yes, a large group, but it was all one check and we did call well ahead. We were promptly seated. Our waitress took our drink orders. After that she seemed rather short and irritated with us. We hadn't ordered alcohol (having been on a bourbon tour earlier in the day we had hit our limit). She eventually warmed up when she realized we weren't being super budget conscious. I assume she thought she was going to get a bad tip and had a bad attitude about it.
The other less than awesome experience was when the waitress informed us they didn't have soda available for the three kids at the table because of a wedding downstairs. We couldn't figure out why that mattered.
Otherwise the food was very tasty. They were a little ridiculous with some of the esoteric descriptions on the food, but a quick google search solved most of the issue. The red wine s'more with the smoked vanilla ice cream was to die for!

Thank you, Proof, for making our anniversary dinner so special and for restoring my faith in the quality of Louisville restaurants. The food was superb, with generous portions, creative sauces, and beautiful plating. We especially loved the charred octopus and lavender gelato. Hooray for a unique wine list! Dorcari, our server, was excellent, and beautifully paced our dinner slowly as requested. Support staff was efficient and so accommodating. I wish we could return here on a weekly basis, but the prices are more in line with our special events.

Wow! Not only is the art, decor and stay amazing but Brunch was beyond delicious! Check them out even daily menu- you won’t be disappointed.
DJJ
Mildly fancy but they think they're super fancy. The art is cool in here, but that doesn't transfer over to the drinks. Thought the cocktails were subpar and the old fashioned came in last place of the 6 bars I tried on my old fashioned crawl. I would recommend walking through, but don't stay for a beverage.

This restaurant was one of the highlights of my brief trip to Louisville. While there was an initial mix-up with our reservation it worked out and they were able to get us seated.
The food was exceptional. The octopus was some of the best I've had anywhere and I recommend it to everyone. We also had the grilled broccolini to start and that was also excellent. Our main meals of clams/mussels, pasta, and salmon were great - but I'm not going to put them in the same tier as the appetizers.
Service was very friendly and the atmosphere was unique. The restrooms are worth a visit, which is something rarely stated in a restaurant review, as you go through an art gallery to reach them and it is an experience.
If I'm ever in Loiusville again this restaurant will be on my list to visit.

Appetizer was a bread and cheese spread with pickled veggies. Very good veggies. Cheese spread tasted like sour cream dip, but good. My wife got some noodle dish with cauliflower. Looked dry. Tasted better than it looked. I got a bison burger. The bottom bun was mushy. The burger was undercooked. Service was good. Not that impressed overall.
Sammy Sunshine
Delicious! Rosemary, our waitress, was outstanding and the food was equally as great! The restaurant is attached to a museum so make sure you check it out before or after your meal!

I sat at the bar and and a fantastic time. Juan, my bartender was very nice and super knowledgeable. 5 stars for service and cocktails. The food gets a 4, and google reviews won’t let me give a 4.5 star.
I got the steak medium rare. It was a hair overcooked more medium than medium rare. The flavors were fantastiv. The real travesty was the undercooked turnips. They weren’t raw, but they were still crunchy and hard to cut through.

Really good food and I loved the decor. We had incredible service.

Louisville is a legit foodie destination and this place should be on the stop list. Had one entree, several appetizers, a cocktail, and a one of kind bourbon tasting. All and all it was a fantastic meal and experience. Will be coming back to one of my fav cities soon and stopping by here for seconds.

THIS is where I go to eat and drink when I am in town. The food is impeccably cooked and the menu is forward leaning. I am NEVER disappointed with service, ambiance, and selection. Have an experience here by dining and then walking through the attached museum. Wonderful for date nite option or lunch. Bravo!

Dinning at Proof on Main is an experience, and an amazing one at that! Food was superb, and the service was excellent. We walked around the art gallery with our mother who was visiting and had a great time.
JILL SILER
I could rave on for an hour about the 50 reasons why i always get off in Louisville to grab an opportunity to experience PROOF. The food! The art exhibit in their restaurant you can enjoy while, before or after dining. The lounge scene. The service. The inspiring up and coming area. The Art. The decor. The story. Props to you all

Great bar with creative cocktails, attached to the hotel lobby turned museum which has some quirky art and a good way to spend 30 minutes looking at interesting works. The bar lets you take the cocktails as you go through the art galleries, which is an added bonus!
Taylor Manternach
Great restaurant, amazing scenery! Have got to say this environment is one like I've never experienced before! Along with that comes great service and great food. No complaints here.
Matthew Barnes
The food was delicious and very well prepared. Excellent cocktails as well.
John Reynolds
Interesting and thoughtful restaurant. Delicious food. (The fried rabbit on the current menu is outstanding and clever.) Great concept and hope it stays that way.

This is one of the most memorable dining experiences one can hope for. Located in a hybrid art museum/hotel, the ambiance is like nothing I’ve ever seen. The service staff does everything in their power to insure you have an unforgettable experience, they really seem to care. The food is delicious and also memorable and interesting. Each dish seems to have a unique twist. Can’t recommend this unique experience enough.

Amazing experience from drinks to desert! Hands down the best restaraunt I have gotten to enjoy in Louisville. Our server was very attentive and offered valuable insight about the menu. We started off with some Old Fashioned's that were amazing. We then ordered the Kentucky Catfish Dip and Whipped Riccota for our appetizers—highly reccomened. Our dinner consisted of several different types of items that were locally sourced which was very apparent given the freshness of the food. We will definitely be back.

Amazing ambience and service. Great drinks. Food…. Meh at best. Meat was not pre-seasoned, and thus meh. Strawberry and pork? Who knew they hated each other.
Melissa Baker
The octopus is simply to die for! The bison burger with onion jam is great, and the butterscotch dessert is a light sweet but not too sweet ending to a fabulous meal!
Anna Stinauer
AMAZING food and the servers were so so nice. They were knowledgeable and we felt like we were really in a great establishment. Can’t wait to come back!

Such a great little diner-- we were in the city for a day and went back for lunch after an excellent breakfast. The food was quick and really good, the waitstaff were friendly and fast. The 'hens on red river' eggs over hash and chili was really good as was the veggie burger with pesto. I'd come back anytime in...
Laurie Pitman
Great spirits menu of course. We had the cheese plate (awesome) and the marinated olives (fabulous) with IPA. Really nice place attached to the Museum Hotel, 21c Hotel. The current exhibit on "Labor and Materials" was really good. And FREE. Such a cool idea.
Dylan Gamboa
Dishes were over cooked. Service was good. Flavors were great. Highly recommend the mushrooms. The entrees were the biggest disappointment.
Mike Hopkins
Food was good. Service was extremely slow. Others in the group who had been before, felt the same way. It didn't appear to be extremely busy while we were there either.
Cipriano Griego
Trendy bar with a cool vibe in the 21C hotel and art museum. Loved being able to enjoy a cocktail am while taking in three art. Best old fashion that I've had in quite some time and what else should you expect in this region. Make sure to visit the men's restroom sounds odd but you just gotta

Best window seat in the city! Always friendly service and amazing libations. Ummm.... should mention the mushroom appetizer... fresh, unique and scrumptious.

REALLY GREAT. Edgy art, fantastic food, great bourbon and cool staff without pretentiousness. This place has me planning a trip back to Louiseville. Highly recommend.

This food was truly amazing! I had the vegetable plate and was blown away. Brittany was our server and was delightful and went above and beyond to help us find what we were looking for in the city. She is a really neat person. She recommended some awesome breakfast and lunch places and even a couple awesome bars! I couldn't recommend this place highly enough! Also my wife had the risotto and my friend had the buffalo burger and they were both amazing! Also they have a really great bourbon selection! Great experience!
John Trambaugh
I'm not a fan of broccoli but it was cooked to perfection in my dish, in fact the whole dish was delicious. I would have given a 5th star but I felt that portion size value to actual cost was very lopsided.

Visiting KY for Derby, we were lucky to get a reservation for brunch. I had yummy yogurt and granola bowl, biscuit with cheese and egg, ceasar salad, charred octopus. The yogurt bowl was delicious but VERY small. The biscuits are so buttery, to die for. Charred octopus was also really good.
The art exhibits on the restaurant are absolutely gorgeous.
Another hit for 21c museum hotels. Bravo!
Thank you Hanna for serving our chatty Bachelorette party group.
Colette Lutes
We had the steak and the grouper. Both fantastic! Awesome cocktails as well!

You KNOW a restaurant is good when you visit two nights in a row. Proof in the 21 Museum Hotel was fantastic. It's lively and buzzing. And eating in a very cool art gallery makes the experience even better. We sat at the bar both nights and got excellent service. That Heirloom Tomato and Peach Salad deserve an award of some kind! Absolutely amazing. The tomatoes were plump, perfectly ripe, and meaty with just the right amount of feat-which makes everything better! We tried the chicken one night and the bison the next. Yum, Yum, Yum! You gotta try this place if you ever get to Louisville. We certainly can't wait to get back
Sebastian Zehetbauer
Good burger and fries. Very well booked on a Thursday evening. It is recommended to make a reservation. Going to the toilets is a nice experience as you walk though the 21c museum.
Barry Blumenfeld
Outstanding! Sat at the bar and watched the team work. They were attentive while doing 5 other things at once. Amazing team. Whiskey selection is great. So many private barrels! Food was also tips. Had the trout, which delicious. Can’t say enough about how great this place is.
Lyl Rose
This place is a gem. The decor is funky and fun. The atmosphere has an all around cool artsy vibe. The food was out of this world!! The type you make delicious moaning noises after each bite. We ordered quite a bit because it was so hard to choose - everything sounded wonderful. We enjoyed the steak, the duck, beet salad, corn bread, mushroom starter, charred snap peas and asparagus. The asparagus was a bit blah (we didn’t hate it); but everything else was absolutely fantastic. The hotel in which this great establishment is housed has interesting art and super cool unique installations spread about so plan to have some extra time before or after dinner to wander. Great evening here. Hope to return some day.

I visited Proof On Main with 4 other colleagues a few days ago and delayed my review so that I could process it all and write the review with all things considered. First, the food. The food was really good and the menu was very nice with plenty of options. We ordered many of the appetizers, we all ordered entrees and we ordered several desserts to share. We also ordered some wine, a couple of cocktails and some bourbon and none of these items were a letdown. The art in the building was very interesting and the bathrooms are a must see (I won't spoil it). So with all of these positives, why would I give it a 3 star rating? We called to make reservations, but they couldn't accommodate us and told us that there's plenty of seating in the lounge. When we arrived, we found out that the lounge was full, but then the staff led us to a couch, some wooden chairs and three very small, very short tables that looked like tree stumps. The tables were at the same level as your knees if you were sitting on the couch and if you were the unlucky one sitting in the wooden chairs, you'll be bending over to get down to your food and you'll be keeping your drinks on another wooden chair next too you, because there won't be room on the tree stumps if you have food too. In addition to this, don't expect ice in your water as they don't do this. You water is served lukewarm at best with no ice. I also had to cut my $51 steak with a butter knife because I had no steak knife nor was there staff around to ask for one. Now, if you're going to just hang out and have some drinks, the couches and tree stumps would be perfect, but for a dinner, I would highly recommend against it. I'm not hard to please, I'm really not, but when you drop $400 (with tip, not exaggerating at all), I believe you should not have to eat your food on tree stumps or in your lap. To make this review as fair as possible, I will say again, that the food was great and my colleagues felt that the food quality made up for the poor seating arrangements. I however, disagree and believe that you should be offered a real table when you're at a fine dining establishment.
