Our waitress was incredible and made the experience so welcoming! I would go back just for her. My silverware had super crusted on old food bits on the fork probably from going through an industrial dishwasher without the particles getting scraped off first so that was gross, but I ate with chopsticks to avoid it. The E-Breezy cocktail was also very good, but it took a while to get the drinks to our table. The sushi was pretty good as well. I could have used more eel sauce on my roll, which is pictured. I think if you’re paying for ingredients that are going on your roll, it should go on the roll rather than a small dab on the side, but the presentation was obviously nice. The sushi rice was good on the rolls. The hibachi meals we ordered were good and the kitchen remembered to accommodate for a food request we had for one of the meals and that was very appreciated. The steak was seasoned well and it was tender. Overall, the experience was good, just had a couple hiccups.

We decided to try this place out for the first time today. It was very good! The food was amazing and the servers were very nice and attentive. My partner got the heart attack and I got the torched shrimp. Both were very well prepared and tasted great. We for sure will be going back to try out their hibachi menu!

Sushi was good, however appetizer I ordered never came out but wasn’t on the check either. They could use some options when ordering some of their combos like their bento box. Something like choose so many from this list or choose one item from each list type thing.

This place is fantastic! We had a huge variety of different foods for dinner and everything was hot, fresh and delicious! They had a gentleman walk around with a cart that kept our drinks full. I am very happy that they stay open later in the evening, because that shows me that they want the business verses alot of other restaurants. Our waitress was very friendly and they served us our food fairly quickly. We will definitely be back.

Went here on Christmas day, place was very busy and had over an hour long wait. They accommodated us by allowing us to sit at the sushi bar immediately without having to wait for a table, as we didn't want hibachi anyway. The sushi was fantastic, some of the best I've ever had! Waitress and our sushi chef were both very friendly and efficient. This place knows how to handle being busy while maintaining quality!

Today we went there for hibachi, our waiter Jordan was doing an excellent job on running all the drinks and dishes, he was serving, hosting, and bartending at the same time. Jordan was extremely helpful and friendly. Great service. Food was amazing as well. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Definitely will come visit again.

Love this place. Excellent steak from the hibachi. Excellent sushi and sashimi. When trying to save money - the side of fried rice with a cup of ginger dressing is delicious and filling. Service is great. The fact that they have managed to stay in business in a location that was a revolving door of failed businesses for a decade, speaks to their quality better than anything I could say.

Our experience was phenomenal. The food was perfectly prepared with very generous portions. Our drink glasses were constantly topped off. We had 7 people in our party and our needs were handled efficiently and effectively. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My son has wanted hibachi for weeks and we found this place. It was busy but we only waited 15 minutes for our seat at a grill. Service was friendly and fast, drinks stayed full and the chef was really fun! The food was great and plentiful! Can't wait to finish my teriyaki chicken for lunch.

I loved the food at this spot. The menu had all the tasty options that fibers are looking forward to eating, and the service was fantastic. I loved their hot green tea, and I would come back for the tempura appetizer by itself. We did not sit by the live hibachi show, but did not suffer for that at all

Ok. The service wasn’t amazing but it was decent. The food was very salty and the amount of rice that came with our dishes was just astounding. We ordered the Bi Bim Bap, the Garlic Steak and the Crispy Tofu. The Garlic steak did not taste of garlic what so ever but the Bi Bim Bap was certainly delicious. The wait for the hibachi tables are insane, but if you just want to have a table you barely have to wait. This is a pretty good decent restaurant for Japanese hibachi.

One of the best places in town for fresh sushi. We only have nigiri and sashimi when going to a sushi restaurant to assess their sushi preparation and fish freshness. This place never disappoints. Service is also very quick and staff are very responsive!

The steak and scallops were great and cooked exactly as asked. Crunch Munch roll was fantastic as well. Only problem I had was simply due to atmosphere which was too loud in my personal opinion and seating was a little cramped at the grill.

I went with my team grim work so we were able to sit at the hibachi/Kansai grill. The chef was fun. He wasn't super showy, but he was definitely a comedian. I enjoyed the experience all the more because of listening him crack small jokes. He was very personable and the whole experience was great!!

Superb restaurant. Great service, drink never empty, table never piling up with dishes. Sushi was excellent, lunch was massive and high quality for a great price. All ingredients were fresh and served at optimal temperatures. Really enjoyed the family atmosphere to this place. This business is a family affair, it was nice to see smiling kids, brothers and sisters all helping one another out in delivering a high quality experience to customers. This is my favorite restaurant in Louisville! The sushi is incredible. I've never had a roll I didn't love. Most importantly, they have the best fried rice I've ever tasted. Everyone is always incredibly friendly when I stop by. I live in the area, so I'm a frequent flyer. They always remember my favorite things to order, and the owner asks me about my day every time I'm there. The hibachi table is definitely worth grabbing if you've got a big group -- the chefs are wonderful and the show is really entertaining. I take my family here whenever they visit for the holidays. I couldn't wish for a better place to be a regular. :)

I took my wife here last night on her birthday this is our second time ever visiting a Japanese steakhouse overall the experience was great food quality was good the chef was really funny and catered to my son I was not expecting the intense heat but overall I can't complain it was a really fun experience for me and my wife and son we enjoyed ourselves here if you have not visited this place please do so you would not walk out of this place disappointed I love coming here

We enjoyed this restaurant with coworkers for lunch. Food was very good and staff friendly. We would have liked our server to check in with us at least one more time. Lighting was a little too dim for lunch time dining making the atmosphere seem odd for the time of day. Setting would be great for a romantic dining at dinner.

Great Hibachi and Sushi place for lunch or dinner. The prices are reasonable and the quality is very good. The service is very quick and reliable. I have only eaten at the Hibachi grill area once, me and my co-workers had a great time and still managed to finish in around an hour. It's hard to beat the quality of the sushi for the price.

Really a great show and I can't get over how friendly people were. I think we spent about 19$ per person, very fair for what we got!

This is our go to Japanese Hibachi place in Louisville. We tried some of the other ones and keep coming back to Kansai. I love the Derby roll, filet mignon meal and the appetizer salad. I could drink the ginger dressing on it. The food is great and the people are great too. I knocked off one star because the interior is a bit dark and worn.

Pretty good. Had multiple and big hibachi tables so not a long wait on a Friday night. Food was good and well prepared. The cook was entertaining enough but I wouldn't say great. The reason you go is for the show not the average food and the show was just meh. Everyone was really friendly though and they kept drinks full. Just wish the cooks had more razzle dazzle.

My group of 4 came for lunch around 3 in the afternoon on a Tuesday. Our server was kind, joked with us, she checked on us often, and the food was delicious. This was our first time visiting and I really enjoyed it! A minor miscommunication about wanting to sit at a table instead of a grill led the hostess to get grumpy with us (she wasn't clearing saying "Grill?" when asking where we'd like to sit), which is the only reason I give Kansai 4 stars because this was our first impression as we came in. Our server quickly warmed us back to the place and we really enjoyed our meal!

This place is always a treat, whether you get the grill or not. Service is excellent, and the food is amazing. I highly recommend trying the crunch munch roll if you're into sushi. It's also a great roll to try if you've never had sushi too since it's fully cooked. I'd give more stars if I could! A favorite of mine for sure!

Dinner for 40 of at 4 hibachi grills was wonderful. However, there was a miscommunication with the employee I made the reservation with. I was told 48 of us could sit together at 1 grill yet the maximum was about 15 so we were divided up in 2 different areas. I would go back but not with a group larger than 30.

My boyfriend and I love coming here. The rolls are always changing and super unique. Every time we come we get something completely different and they always continue to amaze us. The sushi is delicious and while a bit more pricey than others, you really get what you pay for. The quality is above average for any other sushi joint in a land locked state and the rolls some times are really massive. Make sure to ask the size of the roll if your like me and can eat multiple rolls, because some of the rolls they bring out really count as two they're so big.

Some of the best Sushi in Louisville and excellent hibachi dinners. It's always a toss up when I go there as to which I will get, but they're fast, courteous and best of all the food is consistently amazing. When I go I'm usually served by Mai or Tu and both of them are great and so attentive. You won't be disappointed. I would recommend their lunch as opposed to the dinner just based on prices alone, and you can get in and out in less than 40 minutes if you order quickly. They tend to have 50% off the sushi rolls you can really get a lot for quite a little bit of money!

Great food, friendly staff. It's a bit pricey but you absolutely get your money's worth in terms of the amount of food. My only complaint would be the drinks, refills are brought around by pitchers on a cart, instead of your wait staff taking them back to the machine, they ice up the drinks in these pitchers to keep them cold, but it also waters down the drinks. Other than that I love this place and would gladly recommend it over Shogun.

Not a bad experience. Chef was competent and fun for a habaci place. Make sure you ask for salad dressing on the side . It was drenched. Also a lot of salt on everything especially the rice. Ask for little or no salt and add the amount you want. The place clean. Way cleaner than Shogun which is a dump. I would go back.

We couldn't make it to the Japanese restaraunt we usually go to. So we went here. We sat at the bar while waiting for a seat at the habachi grill. The bartender was the best!!! She was very friendly and willing to answer our questions and explain the different offerings. The food was good and priced okay. She made the whole experience great. So after dinner we went back to the bar to finish talking to her. They closed early for what i would have expected on a Friday but we had a great double date night.

I was nervous when I sat down and the table was a little sticky, but they more than made up for that with their amazing service. The hibachi cook was funny and genuinely smiling and laughing at his own jokes. The food was delicious and our glasses were never even close to empty. We will be back.

Great Hibachi for lunch. Had a chef that did some great acts along with preparing a delicious meal. The only thing I would recommend is to say light on the pepper and easy putting a blop of mustard sauce on the rice while cooking. It did take away from making this 5 star. Very friendly staff.

If you're looking for a new experience at their Hibachi grill (if you've never been) or just a simple but good bowl of fried rice at their regular tables, this is a nice place to go for either. I would like to highlight their excellent service, as the waiters, at least in my experience, have always been attentive even when they're busy.

We had a party of about 17 for my nephews 24th birthday party. We sat at the hibachi grill and had a fantastic time! With that many people, you would think something would go wrong. Not so! Our drinks were refilled the moment they were 1/2 empty. Our hibachi chef "Roger 007" was hilarious and the food was great. We were seated in a private dining area so we were able to socialize without disturbing other customers. It was a great night.

When we pulled in I said to the people in the car “bad sign half the lights are not working in the front of the sign” we sat down and the hostess did not like like that our group wanted to sit together leaving two seats together for someone else. Leaving the two empty seats by the two people already sitting there. The hinachi guy had no personality but was very nice. The cook did not get the table interacting we just watched him cook. The cook burnt the rice, it stuck to the grill. The person refilling the drinks did an awesome job! Would never consider going here again and can not believe it has the reviews it does. The clientele was a little rough. I will not be going back.

5 stars for the service, 2 stars for the food. We ordered 2 hibachi chickens. Fried rice was dry and much more bland than other hibachi grills we have visited. Chicken was a tad better than the rice and the veggies were near non-existent with two greens, onion and mushrooms. It was really kind of diappointing really on how many veggies were served with a hearty heap of fried rice. However, the service was impeccable, my water was filled every time it was half full. I was asked by two different servers if we were doing ok, and watched one server ask a larger family if they needed bags for left overs and was kind enough to load the bags up, as well. With a few modifications on flavors and vegetable selections, this would become a Japanese favorite of mine.

This location is always clean and all of the employees are very sweet and courteous. The food comes out quickly and we have never had an issue with our meals. My fiancé and I come here at least one time every two weeks and have for over a year now. Okay for the price. My husband and I got sushi at the sushi bar. The experience was a little odd in comparison to other places; instead of a waitress for drinks and appetizers and a paper menu to fill out for the sushi chefs, everything was through the waitress. We got there just before dinner rush, at around 5 on a weekday, and the place was pretty much empty save for one hibachi group. And yet, our waitress still took a while to refill our drinks, and while I looked around for her I happened to catch her playing on her phone. While the service was a little lax and atypical, the food was decent and there were no issues with what we ordered. Their sushi seems to be on par with Ginza on the corner of Hurstborne and Shelbyville if you've been there. I cannot speak for the non-sushi menu of either place. Thank you to the manager for updating the sign outside and clarifying that you do, in fact, have restrooms for your customers! In short, Kansai is okay. If it's close to you and you don't want to go far, this place is passable for your sushi fix or a night with the family. It was very busy when we went, typical for a Saturday night. We were seated at a table quickly and our waitress, Gemma, was very prompt. We had our little with us and, while the food took forever to come out (the kitchen was very backed up), Gemma was wonderful about keeping us informed and our little loved her! Our little is going through separation anxiety and she wasn't fazed by Gemma at all! Gemma was amazing! The food was good, like most Japanese steakhouses, but the service was top notch!
