One of our favorite restaurants! Have been here many times and always leave loving the food and having a great overall experience. Our first visit here, all the staff wore flannels, and that pretty much sealed the deal for me!
We love how they serve a variety of foods, desserts, and drinks. We were recently seated in the diner & malt shop space and it was so cute! With the weather being warmer out, they have plenty of seating options both indoor and outdoor. They have a beautiful outdoor patio and balcony seating.
All the food we’ve had has been amazing! (Not all are included in the photos)
Definitely be sure to check out the specials on the back of the menu as they’re always changing. We’ve ordered almost everything on the menu over time and would recommend any of it. Their burgers are probably the most popular with us, but their sandwiches are also pretty amazing!

Met some friends here for dinner last Saturday night. What a gem! The only drawback was parking, although the neighborhood had plenty of open space nearby. Staff were very friendly. Quite an extensive selection of beers, great appetizers, dinner entrees and awesome burgers. We ordered the beer cheese appetizer, and various burgers for dinner, along with a meatloaf entree. The burgers were cooked to order and delicious, and the accompanying fries were hot, crispy and had just enough seasoning! The meatloaf looked and tasted awesome. My son ordered a chocolate shake from the adjacent malt shoppe with his dinner and it was the perfect thickness and chocolatey! I had the Kalamazoo Stout which was dark, rich, and creamy, with hints of coffee and chocolate. My wife really enjoyed the Fretboard Strawberry Blonde Ale. If you're in the area do not pass this place up!

The home of the cheeseburger!! This place was packed, and they kept coming in. The dining room was quite noisy due to the large groups of people!! We each tried a different item! We started with the bacon jam Brussel Sprouts they were good, not the best I've had but good. I choose the 80/20 burger with fries which was very good even the grilled pickled red onions it came on a pretzel bun. The Mrs. tried the classic cheeseburger on a potato bun which was so soft with onion rings, the only problem I saw was the cheese wasn't melted! (who doesn't melt cheese on their hamburgers)!! Our friends tried the Patty melt on Texas toast with mushrooms and her husband got the meatloaf with brown gravy with mashed potatoes and green beans. We chose to dine inside but they have a fabulous deck which looked great.

Food here is the best around. Service is always good and friendly. When you need to best cheese burgers in town this is it. I will keep going here for the rest of my life. The only regret i have is that for 30 years i have seen this place and im just now trying it. Go get ya some and you will know what i mean!

Have been here twice now. First time it was very good. Nothing mind blowing, but the burgers were tasty, and while a bit on the higher price range, they weren't too terribly expensive. Biggest disapointment was the fried pickles. They were very good, but for the price you pay you get like 10 pickle chips. Almost laughed and asked the waiter where the rest of them are.
This time we skipped on appetizers and everyone got a meal and shakes. Burgers were great. Cooked a bit well done for my liking, but they're thinner patties so not sure if getting them cooked medium is even a possibility. Their Duesseldorf mustard is an excellent accompaniment to their burgers. My wife got the chicken tenders and they came out extremely hot and she ate all of them. Shakes were great too. My wife and MIL got chocolate malts that they loved. I despise malt powder so i didn't like them. My FIL got the bourbon apple butter shake, which was amazing. It didn't have a strong bourbon taste according to him, which is probably why I liked it so much because I'm not a drinker. You do have to be 21 or older to order it. I got the strawberry which is made with fresh strawberries and incredible. My favorite was the one my BIL got. He got the smores shake and it was the best one I tasted.
All-in-all it's a very good restaurant that has good burgers and shakes. Main gripe is to up the portions of the appetizers because it's pathetic how little you get of them for the price you pay.

Nathan, our server was a great host! He answered all our questions and gave his personal suggestions on what to order for our party of six. He was a great conversationalist and quick witted. I told him he had the voice first radio and he added, "and a face first radio too!" I had to order the cheeseburger of course along with two either guest, two others ordered the meatloaf (cut into large squares the kidsed on the grill) and one ordered the filet mignon. The chairs were a little uncomfortable as they were metal and the tables were scratched, maybe its it's look they're after. We will go back and request Nathan on our next visit!

Went here for the first time with my family and we all really enjoyed it. The burgers were fantastic and that’s exactly what we had been hoping for. They give you big slices of pickles and I personally really enjoyed that! The brussel sprouts were awesome and the fries were good. The little holder they serve them in kept them warm longer, which was also a plus. The service was very good as well. Everything was accurate and the server was very welcoming! It also looked very clean in there and they even had a Thanksgiving menu for people to look at and sign up for if you were interested! I would highly suggest this place, especially during lunch when parking is ample! I haven’t tried nearly enough of the items here so I’ll definitely be back!

If you find yourself in Louisville, near the Bellarmine University campus, definitely give Kaelin's 80/20 restaurant a try. Great atmosphere and one of the meatloaf dishes I've had in a very long time! Friendly and very attentive staff!
Mikah Rayne
Great food. Says where first cheeseburger made and it was delicious. Great customer service and very welcoming. Would go back if head that way again.
Tiffany Pulkowski
So, so good! Definitely recommend the burgers, the pulled pork, and the meatloaf. Oh, and fet the green beans! Would not get the Mac and Cheese again but everything else was great.
Fat Man Reviews
While watching this past weekends NCAA basketball tournament, Fat Man Reviews ventured out to 80/20 @Kaelin's in Louisville, KY. Kaelin's claims to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger, and they were the first place in Louisville to serve the Colonels Harlan Sanders chicken recipe.
I tried an order of the Fried Pickles with Comeback sauce. The pickles are really thin but the breading is mainly crispy, however it was a little oily and flimsy. The pickles have a good salty brine flavor. The star of the show is the comeback sauce. It's creamy, sweet and has a little heat at the end. They should bottle this stuff.
For my meal, I tried the Kaelin's Original Cheeseburger, double, with fries. This is made with Düsseldorf mustard, American cheese, onions, pickles, and two 4 oz. patty on a potato bun. The bun was toasted and had grill marks plus the bun to burger ratio was great. The mustard is creamy like Dijon but with a slight spice to it. The cheese is melted well, and the pickles added some saltiness and texture to the burger. The onions are very thin and pretty much disappear. The patties are smashed and seasoned well, but the hard sear on mine went a little over, and they tasted a bit burnt. However, there was still some juiciness to the patties towards the center of the burger. The fries were out of a bag, but they were fried and seasoned well.
Kaelin's offers several burgers, sandwiches, entrée's, and fried chicken. They have a full bar and offer beer on draft. Service was great and they are very friendly. The Fat Man says that 80/20 @Kaelin's is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

Forgot to take a before picture, but their black bean burger is absolutely amazing. Looks like it had sweet potatoes in it as well. Best black bean burger in Louisville.
On top of that, Will and Colinne were very pleasant and service was great!

First time at this restaurant, and it was a great experience all around! The atmosphere was comfortable, well-lit, and I just loved the decor! They have a great cocktail menu and draft beer menu, with lots of delicious options 😋. And their burgers are thick, juicy, and perfectly crafted with savory toppings. Pictured is their signature 80/20 burger paired with their Brussels sprouts (which are cooked with onion jam 🤤). And for dessert you must try some of their homemade hand-cranked ice cream, which is the perfect end to a delectable meal 😊.
Business AsUsual
This was a good brunch break, went in for the $7 burger week special but l fell for the bait and got the prime rib burger and im glad l did. It was simply a really good sloppy, juicy, tasty burger . Service was very good and attentive as they tag teamed us. The barlike atmosphere was fun with plenty of televisions for sports. I will be back, thank you.

We had reservations at 6:15 on mother's day and we're seated promptly. Our waiter immediately brought us water which was nice. We asked him questions about our dietary needs and he tried but I don't think he was very knowledgeable on the topic. So we ordered our food and waited.. and waited.. and waited.. and an hour and a half later we were served. We were pretty hangry by almost 8:00. Our food was correct and delicious.. but all of our bellies hurt afterwards 😏
Terri Sierra
Best burger I’ve had in a long time! I usually do plant based and they did have a plant based burger on the menu. I will have to try it next time. Draft ale was good, onion rings were great! The service was fast and friendly. The owner talked to us for a few minutes about how the new Kaelin’s came to be. We will be back!

Wonderful food and wonderful service!! This was our first time coming and was seriously impressed. Service was absolutely perfect, considering with went at dinner rush we got in under 30min without a reservation, our server was very quick and attentive but not too much to where it was annoying, just perfect. Wonderfull pricing as well. Didn't leave hungry either all; we all left stuffed and none of us could even finish the burgers we got. If I could give this place a higher rating we would!!! Definitely will be coming back.
Janice Lewis
We decided on an impromptu visit last night. It had probably been 22+ years since we'd been. We ordered the classic burgers. I ordered without the mustard. Burgers arrived quickly with a generous amount of yummy looking fries. I thought my burger was a tad overcooked but with some mayo and ketchup, was really tasty. Fries were ice cold making them less than appealing. Waiter offered to bring us more, but it was Burger week and the restaurant was packed, so we passed. We'd go back in a heartbeat though as overall, the burger had great flavor and I'd take another chance on the fries.
Eric Estes
The 80/20 burger was delicious. Great fries too. Nice atmosphere. Our server took good care of us, checking in every once in a while. The burgers are priced between $15-20, so a bit pricey, but the quality is good.
sharon straughn
My friend had the 80/20 burger and I got the Ribeye burger. Prices have gone up, his was $18, mine was $19. The toppings were great, mine came with a sunny side up egg, grilled pickled red onions, bacon jam. My burger was juicer and well worth the extra dollar. His had cheese, mine didn't but I did not miss it. The fries were excellent, a very very generous portion, pipping hot, good and crispy. We had a side of onion rings. I was not impressed but then I prefer the onions to be the main event, these were too heavily breaded, reminded me of store bought. Otherwise it was delicious.

Had the 80/20 burger and fries, simple burger that taste like it should, girlfriend had the meatloaf meal very good
Nathan the server was very friendly and knowledgeable
Will be back!!!
Linda Brewer
I forgot to get pictures. My shrimp and grits were excellent. The shrimp was tender and the grits were creamy. My husband got the buffalo wings. They were big and hot. I will go back to try a burger since the one our friends got looked awesome.
Natasha Coleman
Food was good, they were accommodating to our large party during a BUSY evening. Accoustics on the 3rd floor could have been better. It was difficult to hear anything at the table without SHOUTING at each other. The noise was truly overwhelming. Would eat here again, but maybe mid week when hopefully its less busy. Seasoned fries were super good! Prices were very reasonable.
Jonathan Rudolph
Went here recently and enjoyed the Kaelin's Original Cheeseburger and fries. Ordering the namesake of the restaurant has to be a good choice. And I was not disappointed. Juicy burger, with fresh veggies, and the fries were hot and fresh. Nice atmosphere just was not a stand out from my initial experience.
Nicole Portet
This place is amazing the service is fast and the food is amazing I couldn't finish it because it was so good. The next time I come here I am going to have an amazing time I'm going to come here on my 21st birthday
Ronald McDaniel
RUN DON'T WALK! This place is incredible. The burgers are excellent. Happy Hour is between 2 and 6 (Half Price draft and wine by the glass) The service is solid here as well. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING A BUTTER PECAN MILKSHAKE!!!!!
Raj
After a not so great experience in Louisville this place did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, good food (with gluten free options) and friendly service!
Rayna Ree
Great atmosphere. Staff is a little overwhelming. We wanted to drink a little before ordering but was asked If we were ready 5 times in 10 mins after getting our drinks. So we went ahead and ordered before we wanted our food. Food came fast. My friend got the brisket grilled cheese and it's only pimento cheese spread with sprinkles of brisket on huge Texas toast. She sent it back bc it was not anywhere close to the description. The manager fixed her ticket and apologized for the menu. All in all it was a nice place.
ARUN KUMAR
Thick and JuIcy Chicken sandwich and onion rings are tooo good with house made side sauces (comeback sauce and an other one roasted tomato)
Susan Montenegro
Great food, great vibe and super friendly staff. I stopped by while visiting and had a wonderful experience. The Bourbon BBQ sandwich was delicious 😋. I will definitely stop by next time I visit. …

Atmosphere was nice with roomy outside seating but rather loud inside, where we sat. Food was OK but healthy food was kind of limited to a bean berger and. I think, 3 salads. The food will be tasty, I suspect, because others liked the fried and 80% lean 20% fat burgers and especially the meatloaf. Baked fish would have been nice. My wife's stomach was upset after eating the meatloaf but it could be that she is not used to the higher level of fat. I did not like the bean burger because it was too beanie. That's completely my fault because they clearly said it was a bean burger but I didnt want a salad. The margarita clearly had a low quality taquilla because it was not quite average. Service was top notch. I very much appreciated the Gluten free bun option.
Eddie Bowles
This place is amazing. The 80/20 burger was great, the service was friendly, and there's a really nice patio for outdoor seating. They even have an ice cream shop now for after dinner dessert. The chocolate shake is especially good.
Ashley Ocker
I had the fried Chicken even though it's a burger place and it was fabulous! Super tender, moist chicken. They are known for dessert as well with shakes and cheesecake.
Dolly
We went with a group of 8 and our food was really good! But I do agree with other reviewers that $13 cheeseburger is a bit much...especially since it was $5.00 burger week in Louisville. The cheeseburger was really good and the bun was perfect. Oh but if you do go make sure to get the fried green tomatoes!! They were delicious and some of the best I have ever had. My husband had the beef stroganoff and he said it was just okay ($16). So I would say save up your money and go and enjoy but it won’t be a regular place for us to go.
Madison Murray
Very nice patio seating area! Unfortunately started raining so we had to go in, but had an amazing dinner! Everything was fresh, hot and delicious!

Visited 80/20 @ Kaelin's today thanks to the recommendation from the wonderful guys at Sorted Food on YouTube and they definitely did not disappoint. Everything was absolutely incredible. We had the carnitas poutine and brown butter buffalo wings for appetizers, and we each ordered a burger with different sides. Every bit of the burger I had (the ribeye) was bursting with flavour. Even the tomatoes tasted freshly picked - that's a testament to their quality! My parents are from Oklahoma and were visiting and this is one of the places we had to try - I'm so glad we did. They'll definitely be back, and we'll definitely be more than happy to drive 2 hours from Poseyville, Indiana to visit this wonderful establishment as much as possible! Great service, food, and atmosphere, I really can't reccomend them highly enough! <3
Avon “Ms B” Beacham-Byrd
Yummy!!!! The brisket and pulled pork that we had were SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!! So were the French fries!!! I also had a boozy milkshake which tasted good but very strong...Would recommend!!!

Great lunch location.
Just got done eating here for lunch. It was a good first impression. We were greeted with awesome staff and seated promptly. It is not a very large restaurant, but it wasn't crowded at all during Monday's lunch hour. Though it is close to Bellermine university, so it might get crowded during school season(will need to check). As for the food, it was a bit on the pricy side. $10 for a house salad with added chicken and $10 for a lunch cheeseburger and fries. Regardless of price, the burger was fantastic as well as the fries, well worth the price. I will have to go during dinner to check prices and food then.
Susan Metts
My review is based on food
you can tell their prices are paying for the renovations
the service is good the atmosphere is Beautiful but I want tasty food for a reasonable price
If you want a great burger go to Bambi or Kerns for 1/2 the price
My original cheeseburger didn't do the old Kaelins justice
😥
Shannon Bettencourt
Great local restaurant with very tasty food. The menu isn't huge which is a plus but there is something for everyone. The mashed potatoes don't even need gravy.
John Rocha
Their hamburgers are the best in town. Try the onion rings and French fries. Delicious. Service is as good as you will find in even swanky restaurants. Definitely recommend
Jana Carter
What a great time! Nathan did a wonderful job handling our large group! (11 adults and 3 kids!) he did so great with recommendations and splitting the check and getting us everything we needed!!! Thanks Nathan!!!
Clarence Ridley
The setup was spacious due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The decor was very stylish and the staff was extremely friendly.
They have an interesting drink menu that is a little on the pricy side but the drinks offer a unique mix of ingredients.
It took a surprisingly long time to receive my order but I contribute that to it being Louisville Burger Week. The special burger being offered did not appeal to me so I ordered the Ribeye Burger, medium with fries.
My buger arrived to the table more on the rare side. The burger was a little too salty and the meat struggled to stay together once I took a bite. The fries were a little cold, hard and they didn't offer much taste.
This place is a little on the expensive side for a buger spot but it is more of an upscale restaurant than your traditional buger restaurant. The decor, staff and owner are great but they will need a few more months to work on the operational flow of an upscale burger restaurant.
I'll give them another try in a few months.

I just ate lunch with my husband and close friend here and loved it. I ordered the benedictine BLT with onion rings and it was to die for! I think they might make the benedictine in shop, it's very flavorful and very good. Both other parties with me had the hamburgers which were also very good. A definite must try while in Louisville. They are also handling social distancing guidelines very well.
Angela Vanderburg
The Classic Cheeseburger is delicious. The Arancini pimento cheese balls are wonderful!!
Kenny Ray
Got sick the last time I ate here. Pretty sure it was the green beans. That said, the meatloaf was so good, it was still a net positive experience for me.
Scott Schuman
Well I'm glad to see they're back open a true gem here in the neighborhood. The service was excellent the burger was better than ever and the drinks made me happy. Also the beer cheese and pretzel is amazing. So I had to have the dark meat chicken and needless to say it was superb along with the green beans but the mashed potatoes did not have much taste. Today we decide to have the buttermilk chicken with bread pudding and green beans and I must say it was fabulous but I've never had bread pudding that I remember so I'm not a good judge of that. I'm pretty sure that I will be ordering it again though. It's a must.
Sam C
Great place! Lots of burger options but only two are beef burgers. One black bean burger and one grain/portobello burger. I tried their namesake: the 80/20. It's got heirloom tomatoes, pickled red onion, white cheddar, and bacon on a pretzel bun. The flavors all go very well together. They do a great job of making sure you get a good taste of everything on the burger. My only disappointment was (though they give good hearty chunks of it) I didn't get the heirloom tomatoes in every bite. I think that slices would make it easier to keep the tomatoes on the burger, and to get more coverage on the same amount. Also, maybe cook the burger a little less. My medium was more like a medium well. Rae was our server, and she was very attentive, and receptive to feedback about the burgers. She was great!
All and all, 9/10 (or 5/5).
christopher carder
Last visited here when it was still Mulligans. Tried it today for dinner and it has had a complete interior remodel, atmosphere is great and every item we ordered off the menu was nothing less than spectacular. Reasonably priced, service was outstanding, management is actively involved with customer interaction. Can't say enough about this place and I will be dragging my coworkers out for lunch to try that menu. You will NOT be disappointed.
Madi Ellis
Beautiful little restaurant with great food! Even cater to kids. The mac and cheese melts in your mouth. The owners are AMAZING and will do right by the customer. I will definitely be bringing the family over and over. In 2 weeks the ice cream parlor next door opens. Grab a burger then get dessert! Yum yum
Adam Gilbert
Great food, great experience, hefty burger, great onion rings. Looks pricey on paper, but worth it.
GOOD ICE CREAM with a variety of flavors.
Covid features:
Spaced tables
Mask friendly
Heated outdoor tent
Touchless payment
Katherine Ellies
¡Properly spaced seating, with properly geared staff!
The burger was fantastic and the fries taste great when paired with their Princess Peach. Fair price range.
Micah Thompson
So we had heard about this place for a while and finally went there, even during the covid crazy times we had a great visit. They are on top of the social distance needed and seem to be taking all the precaution needs.
Some great and friendly staff and clean environment present all around. Now of course the food... AMAZING!! Wife had the original Kaelin burger and i had the 80\20. Onion rings and fries were on point too! One of the best burgers i have ever had! Prices are good and wont break the bank eating here either. Enjoy!
Venus Elder
Great food. However portions were very small the weekday evening right after Xmas that we went.
Deborah Rabine
I'm not really sure why they have a 4.5* rating. We went there tonight for the first time and it was ordinary at best. They seated us the ice cream parlor where at least it was not as noisy as the first floor. When we saw how tight the booths were, we asked to sit at a table. The hostess told us all the tables were reserved ( 1 was occupied). So we had to sit in a very tight booth. For the whole time we were there ,the tables were not ever occupied. Our server, Kalen, was super friendly and nice. I got the wedge salad which was crisp and cold and covered in a good amount of toppings. I got the side of roasted Brussels sprouts which were okay but I was wishing they had more flavor. My husband got the patty melt and fries. He said it was good but not great. Our drinks were never refilled. The whole area could use a deep cleaning. The glass in the framed pictures on the wall were smeared with greasy finger prints, there was food and something resembling a big glob of mustard on the floor. Portions were good and price was not bad but we probably won't be back.
John Winbun
This is my new favorite restaurant they do not have a cook they have a chef and their dinners are like between 12 and $15 my new favorite restaurant and the atmosphere is just cozy
Drew Scott
Fantastic meal with prompt service and fairly priced! Will definitely be back with more guests to enjoy the meal!
Brandon Weiss
Went on a Friday night, full restaurant, in a group of 10. Seated immediately (had a reservation). Service was excellent, food was out so quick, and it tasted great. Worth the prices. The only thing that would have made it better is if they had found a way to put that brisket on one of their burgers.
Christopher Kelley
I took my wife and 10yo daughter here. It was our first time. We were able to reserve a table online prior to arriving which is always a plus. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. We sat on the ice cream parlor side which had a 50's dinner feel.
I had the Brisket Grilled Cheese with fries, my wife had the Classic Cheeseburger with onion rings, and my daughter had the Kaelin's Original Cheeseburger with White Cheddar Grits. We shared Beer Cheese. The beer cheese was served with a warm pretzel baguette. I could not stop raving about the beer cheese! Very delicious! I even dipped my fries in it.
The rest of the food was delicious too, but the downside that we all felt was that the portion size of the sandwich and fries were not enough for the price we paid. That's the reason for the 3 stars.
We also had ice cream (daughter had a shake) and we enjoyed the flavors. If we were to come back again, it would probably just be for the ice cream.
Windi Hornsby
Adequate (a bit slow), but friendly service and good food at lunch - liked the cheeseburgers, fries, and onion rings, as well as kid's menu options - pickle chips were the star of the show. Ice cream was hit or miss (donut was awful, key lime and banana cream were okay, mint chocolate chip and strawberry lemonade blueberry were fantastic!) and overall pricey. Glad we tried, but probably wouldn't return on our own volition.
Amanda Peltier- Freeland
We had 11 people. We were seated upstairs Saturday (4/2 @715pm) pretty quickly. They even had an elevator for my great aunt whom isn’t able to walk up stairs. Drinks and food were served quickly. Service was great. Our waiter was patient with our large party and overly accommodating. Food was good. I l was also presently surprised by their beer menu. Great selection! 10/10 we will come back and recommend this place to everyone :)
HeatherLynn Hankins
I really wanted to give this restaurant more stars and I will visit again in hopes of a better experience. If/when that occurs I'll update accordingly.
When we went in my party of 3 was seated promptly. The hostess was fast and friendly. We were seated in the middle between 4 speakers. It was super loud! When our waitress finally showed up we were served with waters she was friendly enough. I asked if we could be moved because it was loud and giving me a headache. She came back shortly and informed me that they would turn down the music but she couldn't move us. I ended up putting headphones in my ears because the mouse was giving me a headache. She took our order right away and was super nice. We ordered the kids cheeseburger, kids peanut butter, honey, & banana, and the Benedictine BLT. However she walked away before taking our drink order. We were never given her name. It was quite awhile for she came back so I had to ask the hostess to send her over to take order drink order. She came right away, we also ordered cheese curds at this time. Our food and drinks came out in a fair amount of time. The cheeseburger was good, the Pb,H, & banana was said to be delicious, my blt had entirely too much Benedictine. I ended up scrapping most off then eating my sandwich, other than that it was great. The fries were okay. The curds were phenomenal. We ordered dessert. single scoop Nutella swirl- delicious, single scoop pumpkin chocolate chip- phenomenal, & chocolate shake no whip- delicious. The experience was over all good. The servicer were nice, but didn't come by often. They were however very busy. We visited around 7pm on a Friday night. Someone I'm assuming was the manager came by and asked if we were alright while eating and of course we said we were good. Overall because they were friendly, busy, and food overall was good, I'd give them a B+. We will try again for an A+ experience because so many others recommended this place.
Kim Klemens
The food is delicious. I especially liked the onion rings. Our waiter was great and the restaurant's atmosphere is light and open. Don't pass on dessert. They have a great selection of ice cream flavors.
Jeremy Simms
My burger was excellent. Unfortunately, nothing else was excellent. The fries were not completely cooked. I had a bit of a short pour on an overpriced beer. The service was typical for the area. Excellent steak burger though. The ice cream shop had very limited toppings. They are eliminating peanuts to accommodate allergies. No caramel. I didn't see old fashioned flavors either. So don't go in expecting old fashioned and you won't be disappointed. The ice cream itself was solid.
Linda Fitts
Open space neighborhood restaurant. Specialty is fresh ground burgers but good apps and bar menu. The bratwurst Burger was unique and hit the spot. The horseradish aoli was a great touch. Only downside was the chairs are metal with no cushion. Hard on us boomers! But welcoming atmosphere and Louisville style bar area.
DR. MACK
The parking lot needs to have more parking for people and there are only 2 handicapped parking spots. The service was good and pretty fast.
Tina Geary
We ordered the beer cheese and pretzel, fried pickles, and 80/20 burgers, fries, and onion rings. Everything was good, but not out of this world. Burgers were cooked well, but lacking in flavor, to be honest. You almost need two pretzels for the amount of beer cheese. Server was friendly, attentive, and working her tail off. We were seated on the malt shoppe side, where carry-out was hopping! Neat atmosphere. I would like to go back and try other menu items, including the ice cream treats.

Had high hopes for our first visit to this new take on a restaurant we used to visit frequently. Service was timely and very good. However, the fried chicken was not something I would order again. It was supposed to be a 2 piece dinner. But there was only 1 piece served. When I asked about it, I was told it is based on weight. There was enough hard coating on the chicken to double the weight. So, if you are a fan of hard heavy coatings on your chicken, this may be a place for you.

I went here for the first time this past weekend and was blown away by the quality of the burgers here. I have eaten at so many different burger restaurants in this town but this is by far one of my favorites. I was also very impressed with the friendliness of our waitress, Leah who took excellent care of my friends and I. She was wonderful and even partook in some laughs with us as we were being super silly at our outside table.
starr peterson
Ambiance is very beautiful. Service was very nice. We were in a hurry but didn't have to worry about food taking long. Came out and a good time :) my patty melt patties were a little over cooked, but the Brussel sprouts were amazing! My daughter loved the bathrooms, she said it was like waking into another dimension. 😆 overall, great experience.

Pass this place almost every day and I was having a craving for a burger and decided to stop. I'm glad I did. The burgers were on point, reminded me of a childhood burger place back home. Our server was great and Kaelin's atmosphere was exceptional as well. Affordable, a great place overall.
Hugh Shoff
I personally really like Kaelins. Reported first place to make the cheeseburger. Great drinks, outdoor and indoor seating. I've always really enjoyed the hamburgers but this time I got the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. Great rotation of local and imported beers. Great cocktail list. And you can't beat the dessert there's a ice cream shop next door where you can get milkshakes boozy ice cream and other sweet treats
Dena Brummett
Atmosphere- beautiful building, too loud to even hear our son talk across the table, small metal chairs, awesome decor, nice restrooms
Service- took a while for waitress to acknowledge our presence, quick to bring reorder of mac & cheese for our daughter, refilled waters appropriately, friendly
Food- bun couldn't handle the burger, onion was unique and tasty, couldn't taste the sauce on the 80/20 burger, hot brown burger was not saucy or cheesy enough to be called a hot brown. Should have called it the Turkey bacon burger. Sides were awesome- cheese grits, fries, fingerling potatoes, and mac & cheese. Different bbq sauce added flair to the fries.
Steven Traynham
Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! I had the patty melt and it was delicious. The best patty melt I have had by far.
Kitty Giavonni
Nice comfy set up!! Our server was akoni and was awesome !! The food was great the signature cocktails were great!! I’d definitely stop back in for a lavender mojito!! It was pretty and had a real garnish💜 I only gave 4 stars because I ordered the fried green tomatoes and the breading was a bit thick which made it had to stick to the maters. Other than that it was a fantastic experience and definitely worth stopping in 🌸
Jad
Great food and entertainment! Apparently the place where the cheeseburger was invented! They serve Coca Cola products, and can do tables up to 14! You can also use multiple card in payment if your with a bug group. Super cool!
Kornei Friesen
The 3 stars are only for the amazing service. A young lady was very friendly and always intent.
I went for the Black Bean Burger; which was very dry (no sauce at all) and colder them room temperature. The fries were also cold.
The spot is nice and new renovated; also there is sufficient space for parking. But here in Louisville are much better restaurants for burgers.
Eddie Alleman
We had a large group with a reservation. The staff had the tables ready and two waiters to take care of us. The food was delicious! The burger was juicy and the house 80/20 sauce was good. The wait staff topped off drinks with us asking. I would highly recommend.
John Kull
Fantastic burger. Got the Classic cheeseburger to go. It was delicious and the fries tasted hand cut. Also got an adult capri sun that was good. Hostess helped me and I believe the manager took good care of getting my food ro me.
Dustin Mistelske
We stopped in around 230 on black Friday and were in and out in 30 minutes. The patty melt......literally no words for this one's. One of my fav burgers I've ever had.
Gabe Jones (Something915)
First off, I'm giving a 4 star rating because of the parking situation. There are only 2 handicapped spaces, but neither space has any lines separating it from the others, so no vehicles with ramps would be able to get the ramp out. There isn't even really room to get a wheelchair between them either (picture included). However, I think it's great that there is an elevator going to both the upstairs dining area and the ice cream shop. I had the 80/20 burger and thought it was okay. Service was pretty good considering how busy they were.
Angela Vanderburg
Had lunch and the food was excellent, as always. New item on the menu this time, Pimento Cheese Arancini. Highly recommend.
Jer Emy
I wish I had taken more pictures. The cheeseburgers (we shared) were the kind you want. Enough meat to make it a cheeseburger and juicy enough to seep into the bun. Drinks were delicious too. Highly recommend this place!
Joshua Hardman
Great atmosphere with terrific service. I had Kaelin's original burger and it did not disappoint. Their choice of pickles coupled with the Duesseldorf mustard gave this burger a unique flavor without ceasing to be a great hamburger. Fantastic beer and bourbon selection and one of the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had. I definitely recommend stopping by this gem.
Dana Cahoe
Service is not very good at all. Had to ask repeatedly for napkins, drink refills & condiments. Three separate orders of chicken tenders were so over cooked you had to cover them in honey mustard or ranch. A fried chicken dinner was ordered and the chicken was cooked so long that the breading was pulling away from the chicken. Will not be going back.
Dan Blather
Visited last night. My wife and I each ordered the fish sandwich and I ordered a side of slaw. Although the fish was okay for the price there should have been more of it. The slaw was different but good.
melissa renfro-brumley
great burger and fries..Lunch is only served in Malt shop.
Limited menu..but delicious! The ice cream shop is plus!
Rob Shepperson
Always wanted to try and finally did. Not bad, a little expensive for what it is. Food took long to come out, it should have been piping hot after a 30 minute wait, but it wasn't, not cold. But far from hot. Glad I tried it, but probably won't be back anytime soon, lots of places do burgers just as good and at better prices.
Lance Thurman
Food was good. It's a little bougie once u get inside vs how I thought it would be but nothing wrong with that. Service was good
Fred Bova
Ordered patty melt that came with fries they were very good very tasty patty melt was very acceptable we'll go back enjoy the visit service was great
Raymond Ryan
Great place to go with family. The outside dining area is great. I'd love to see a gluten free draft beer on the menu.
Ellie D
Great cheeseburger! Nice atmosphere. Onion rings were delicious. Very clean.
Allison Marie
The burgers are super delicious! They also have some of the best fried tomatoes, and the sauce that comes with it is so good. Their customer service was great. I'll definitely come back again.
Luke Montgomery
Love this restaurant! This is my first suggestion when I’m meeting up with friends for dinner. They’re fried pickles are my favorite out of most places and the Bourbon Apple Butter Milkshake is no exaggeration the best milkshake I’ve ever had. Servers have always been good and enjoyable to talk to.
Marla Fox
The burgers were great! Service good but not great. Mac and cheese was a let down.
Brian Strukan
Good food, mostly burgers and bbq sandwiches. There is an ice cream shop attached but it is not staffed all the time. The cocktails are potent. There were plenty of kids inside for a Saturday lunch time. Parking is right behind the building and there's a back door, also outdoor seating in front along Baxter.
Diane Karem
Hadn't been here for probably 15 years. Tried a Blushing Mule cocktail and it is now my new summer cocktail! I loved it so much I had to go to the liquor store and buy the ingredients to make at home. Lovely outdoor seating.
Melva L Bradford
The atmosphere was perfect for a large family gathering. The staff was attentive and efficient - not one erroneous order among a group of about 50 people.
The food was delicious and between all of us there, I think we sampled everything on the menu from the Shrimp scampi and the more than enough Classic Burger to the pulled pork, half Chicken, the patty melt and everything in between. The Cookies and Cream was a hit!
Many thanks to the staff!!
Ethan Alexander
Maranda was our sever, and she handled everything perfectly. We’re from out of town and we usually don’t get quality service where we’re from. But she had everything spot on while she was busy and everything was fast and efficient. She gave us all the recommendations for happy hour and went above and beyond for us. I would give more than 5 stars if I could. My grandmother doesn’t get to go out that often but I took her here while I was in town and she loved it. Thank you guys so much for really being a good restaurant in this community. We are going to come here every time we’re in Louisville! Thank you Maranda, we hope your year goes well until we come back! 5 stars!
Christopher Lindauer
Had the 80/20 burger which was great. The fried pimento cheese balls were really good too. Finished with a star crunch shake. Great atmosphere and service.
April Messer
Shrimp and grits were fabulous, pulled pork was really good, buffalo wings tasted good but were pretty dried out, that's the only reason I didn't give a 5 star. Waiter was very nice, I would definitely be back.
J.T. Crawford
Went on a Saturday evening around 530 pm. A table was easily available, and the service was quick.
We sat on the parlor side, which, well, is an old ice cream parlor. The other side of the restaurant has a much more modern vibe. We had an 18-month old with us, and it seemed like they put parties with kids on the parlor side.
The food was absolutely delicious, and it came out fast and hot. Overall, this was a great experience. The only challenge was parking. The lot is small and tight, but there is some street parking.
Tommy Davis
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and food! Appetizers and dinner were great, mostly burgers. And the apple butter bourbon ice cream for dessert was amazing! Service was great. Will definitely be back.
Jamie Frampton
We had a lovely lunch here on the fly while heading to the zoo. Food was fresh, delicious and very surprising twists to the everyday dishes. Love that everything is homemade!!
Lauren Peterson
This was our first stop while visiting the city for a few days and it was the most memorable food experience! I had the short rib dinner and it didn't disappoint. The brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had- nice and crispy with an onion marmalade. My boyfriend had the 80/20 burger and said it may have been the best he's ever tasted. The service was spectacular and we felt very welcomed with the managers checking in. I had a fruity pebbles milkshake to go and wow was it a little piece of heaven! Everyone was wearing a mask and it was very clean. 10/10 recommend.
willie porter
I hadn't been in years but it was definitely worth the wait!! I don't know what was better. The customer service, which seems like a decline nowadays or the food! Everything was wonderful!! Great experience. We'll definitely be back soon.
Madison Janosek
Excellent service by Erika and awesome burgers! The 80/20 was fantastic and hubby loved the ribeye.
J.L. Mansfield
I was hoping for more poultry options, but the burger I had was still very good. The staff were also friendly and respectful.
Jonathan Stroud
Really nice little spot in the Highlands that does a great job of capturing what makes Louisville a great city. Good burgers, good drinks, nice atmosphere.
Rob Keisling
Loved this place. Great food, very friendly service, fun atmosphere, if I lived in Louisville, I would eat here a lot. Server recommended chicken and waffles, she wasn't wrong - they were amazing. Patio was very relaxing, entire restaurant was very open, casual, airy feel. The place was busy, reservation was a good idea. Hidden gem worth returning to.
Scott Kimball
Great evening out with great service and sold food and drink.
As they're known as the creator of the cheese burger, yes I know it's disputed, I went with the 80/20 burger. It didn't disappoint. Burger was thick and juicy and just a tad overcooked, not enough to send back. The fries were hot and crispy, not much would have made them better.
I was they only burger person in my party. Other dishes delivered to the table included fried chicken, a fried cod sandwich, and a black bean burger. All looked wonderful.
My wife shared a bite of the hot flaky fish, something I would order in a moment. (I would also take a stab at the chicken)
Definitely a place to visit again and again.
Rashad Bishop
The food and service was fantastic! Everything was on point. My mom and I will be back. I'm going to tell everybody about this restaurant. This is our favorite restaurant from now on.
Robin Whitney
Awesome food, great staff! It's a must go at least once. You'll go back!
Brittney Lindsey
Easily the best burger I've ever eaten
Michael Blair
Excellent food and attentive service.i got the BLT. VERY good and a big sandwich for a good price. All the employees there make you feel very welcome. Definitely a great stop!
Tyrion Griffin
Great service from staff ,the food was amazing, it was my first time there I was truly impressed
Julia Tennant
Great front of house, great atmosphere, great cooks. However, if you eat meat, it’s probably a 5/5. If you do not eat meat, prepare to be fairly disappointed. The black bean burger, the only vegetarian option on the menu (good luck vegans) was extraordinarily dry and the toppings were sparse. I beg the owners to read this review and rethink their options for vegetarians, you’re in the highlands after all! You’ll double your business!
Steve Ambs
Due to covid and reduced seating, you should call ahead and make a reservation. We did not. However, they did seat us in the malt shop and we were able to order. Four adults and a baby. Not the atmosphere we wanted, but we dealt with it. We all ordered a similar burger meal and it was good. Very pricey overall, but especially so when eating your meal in the malt shop.
Tia Coatley
So, this was my first time going even though I'm a Louisville native. I got the classic cheeseburger. I think it would have been great if they had made it how I ordered it which was medium well. It came medium, at best. I could only enjoy a small amount of it. Then, my fries came out lukewarm. The server was nice and asked if I wanted them to fix it but I noticed other tables sending their food back and didn't want to aggravate the chef any further since obviously he or she was having a bad night. Overall, it was ok.
Kelly O'Toole
We had the best time! We were told there'd
be a 40 minute wait, but we were seated much more quickly than that. The service was wonderful. I've never seen more polite and accommodating servers and hostesses. The food was delicious. Our toddler loved her chicken. The ice cream and milkshakes are worth the trip, alone. The atmosphere is fun. My husband's drink was forgotten and when we mentioned it, the server (or manager, I'm not sure) vigorously insisted it be comped. We really loved our experience!
Mary Plank
Usually not one to write reviews on burgers but this was an exceptional experience. Husband and I each ordered different burgers and had them cut them in half so we could smoke then both. We chose the Kentucky Derby burger and the Ribeye burger. We agreed that hands down the Ribeye Burger was the most flavorful and savory burger either of us had had in a long time. The Derby burger was unique and delightful in it's own right. The atmosphere was upscale but not uptight. We sat in the bar at lunchtime and Brian/Bryan was or server. He was very attentive and genuine. An overall excellent dining experience!
Kathryn Kuehn
Excellent experience! Server was very attentive. We had the fried green tomatoes and caprese salad (with watermelon) for appetizers and then we both got burgers for lunch. So, so good. We were stuffed. Next time we will save room for their homemade ice cream!
Calvin Cooper
It was a nice and great experience, once we got in we were quickly welcomed and taken too a seat to order. The wait wasn't long and the food was great, could have been cooked a little more but still delicious.
J C C
This location is a Louisville staple. Cannot go wrong with the original burger, not a typical burger though. I've enjoyed the shrimp and grits also and was very impressed. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very clean and the staff is friendly. Recommended to walk up the stairs to the ice cream shoppe in the same building.
Brandon Duckett
Food was so good I didn't have time to take a picture! What's left of the Classic Cheese Burger Breakfast style.
P Pearson
Burger was on point! I didn't like the slaw. Ordered the onion rings after. Tasty!
David Anderson
First of all The service was great, Tyler was very friendly and polite couldn't ask for better. The burger was good but not served complete didn't have any ham as advertised but still had a good taste the fries were delicious couldn't have asked for better on that. Overall I would go back there if nothing else but for great and friendly employees.
michelle Brown-Maddox
This is my favorite place to get a burger and fries! They have a variety of other items on the menu, too, such as chicken, fish and pork, but their burgers, including their black bean burger are superb! Their fries and onion rings are crispy and delicious. We ate in the dining area recently, and the server was extremely attentive and courteous. Perhaps the best part though is that you can also order from their varied ice cream menu with the decked out '50's parlor located upstairs and be served right at your table. They have a few unusual flavors on the list as well as milkshakes and malts. Yummy!! Their dining area also has TV with sports if that's your thing. Next time you're up for a relaxed lunch/dinner, head to Kaelin for the best burger in town 😋
K Pederson
OMG, ordered short ribs..... The BEST! James was FANTASTIC as our server. Everyone (4of us)loved everything we ordered. Fried green tomatoes were amazing. Shrimp and grits, outstanding. Wonderful food and great service. The Best!
shannon moutainlion
Fantastic! Lil pricey but the food was great so no complaints
Steven Guenthner
Great over all. The decor/vibe was fantastic. The burger itself was delicious. One of the best I've had recently as far as taste and texture go. The pretzel bun was great. Food came out fast hot and correct. The only thing my particular visit had going against it was the the fries. They where good as far as flavor goes and I think they would be great. Only they where a little old so they probably weren't a good representation of the place on their best day. Other than that all around good time and great bang for your buck as the prices where reasonable. Will definitely be back. !
Gamaliel Cardona
Is a good place to go and enjoy a burger and a beer.
Summer Daze
Very crowded very organized quick to resolve any problems... but not enough waiters to handle the crowd. Took the waitress a significant amount of time to place bring and cash out order, due to the very large crowd. i didn't eat there I had a alcohol beverage that I would rate a 4 out of 10 based on alcohol to mixer/ice ratio.
Michael Glassner
Very impressed! Great atmosphere, you walk in and it is so open. Outside patio seating, the bar area is fantastic, love how it opens out to the patio.
We ordered the 80/20 burger and the Shrimp and Grits. The burger had so much flavor, fries were crispy. The shrimp and grits...WOW! Seasoned just right, grits were cooked perfect and so much flavor in the shrimp..the only thing I might change would be the price. $15. It was a good serving, just think $18 is a little high. This is a neat place, crowded, service was great, can't wait to go back. Looking to try the Bratwurst burger. Keep up the good work
Mark Levdahl
Excellent food, good service and a great laid back atmosphere. The burger was excellent, the fried chicken was terrific and the fries were very good. The onion rings were over cooked and chewy. Oh, and the ice cream was fabulous!
Jonathan Poteet
Brussels and burgers are good. Service is good. Always busy but I get a table quick everytime but have used reservations. Fries are good too!
Daniel Flathers
This is by far one of my favorite places to dine in Louisville. I have been going here with my family since I was a toddler. It is conveniently located in the heart of the highlands. The food is amazing, especially the Brussel sprouts and burgers. Not to mention they have a connected full service ice cream shop. It's a great place to meet up with friends and family. They have an awesome patio and the service is always impeccable. Give Kaelins a try the next time you are in the Highlands. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Brian Hanna
Geez where to start! Sit in the bar area. Their tenders are very knowledgeable about bourbon and beer selections. Chad is the man! The fried chicken is the absolute best fried chicken I have ever had, period!! Amazing, amazing, amazing. I've been twice times now and have not been disappointed once by any of the food I've tried. Will definitely be coming back.
W Fox
Neat atmosphere but very loud. If you're looking for a quiet evening this isn't the place. Its lively, hustling and bustling. My husband got the pork BBQ and onion rings and loved it. I got the meatloaf with a salad. The meatloaf was extremely salty - and I like salt. I couldn't eat it. My salad was warm :-( Id give it another try during less busy hours and would steer clear of the meatloaf.
Andrew Biskis
My wife and I stopped here for lunch yesterday after driving by the other week and wanting to check it out. It was great!! We had pretzels and beer cheese, burgers, and chili.
The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly and great with timing. The restaurant was also really nice looking and they had an outdoor seating with tent out during the nice fall weather decorated with lights.
We plan on coming back and bringing our friends!
Wil Rivera
Freshly made food, down to their bbq sauces and the staff is great & friendly.
Debra Adams
Our food was amazing! The meat loaf was to die for! The ice cream is a delight to your palate. The atmosphere is very elegant, but not pretentious and the staff were excellent!
Greg Hopper
My new favorite local restaurant. I've been here several times, and I always get the Kaelin's Original Burger (double) with fries. My husband loved the Brussels sprouts, but my favorite appetizer is the beer cheese. Delicious. Great beer selection and make sure to try the homemade ice cream from the Malt Shoppe for dessert.
Dennis Ohlinger
I really like this place. They have the BEST burgers in the entire area in my opinion. I am open to suggestions though! It starts with the freshly ground beef. There's not much more to say. I really want to try the meatloaf as well as the fried chicken, but I can't pass up the burgers everytime I visit! Yeah, I think they are that good!
Thunderraner121 Campbell
It was my first time ther the gurger was great !!!!! Just the way I love it I will go again
Michael Smith
My wife and I went to 80/20 Kaelin's with a large group of people and we were seated upstairs. The large area had been renovated and was well lit by dozens of vintage style lights.
I ordered a burger and fries with a side order of collard greens and my wife ordered short ribs.
My wife indicated that her food could have been warmer and my burger was just above room temperature and the fries were plain cold!
My greens however were hot (sort of sweet, but hot) which made me think that our food was sitting and waiting for the greens.
Not only were the fries cold but the entire serving was little nubby fries about an inch long.
The couple seated next to us commented that their food could have been warmer and then said "But it is Saturday and they are busy".
I'm sorry but that is not a valid excuse for serving cold food. If you cannot get the food to your customers while it is hot you need to hire more employees or have less seats. It is simple math.
If it would have been hot I'm sure that my burger would have been delicious, as a $16 burger should be.
But Wendy's makes a great burger as well and it might be in a paper bag but I guarantee it will be hot when you get it!!
Tom Duffy
First time I have eaten there since it has opened back up. I waited too long. Bright new interior, great menu. Apps of BS, fried Ps and crazy good fried cheese curds. Beef ribs were fall off bone. Kudos to our waiter John. And desert.....bacon ice cream, really?! So good. But I had German Chocolate Malt. Oh the pleasure!!!!!
Brian Adams
The service is good, but not great. The food tastes great, but is not often as described in the menu. I've been here three times. The first time my wife's burger was missing the bacon and my son got his fires 40 minutes late, after we finished eating. We got a free dessert, but were still billed for the fries. The second time I was by myself and ordered onion rings but got fries. The third time, also by myself, and this time I was missing the bacon. Everything always tastes great, even though it isn't as advertised on the menu or as ordered, but still, who's doing QA for this place?
Mr Yeahhh
Some of the best burgers / milkshakes in the city!
Beth Pritchard
On the night we went the place was crowded with a large party upstairs. It seemed to be understaffed and all waitstaff was rushing around, which might have been the reason for the meh food.
All three of us had burgers and fries with the comeback sauce. The fries and sauce were incredible. I'm not a fry fan, but I ate every one.
The burgers were bland and way overpriced. $14 for a burger I could have made at home is pretty high. My burger was cooked perfectly, but not much taste like the meat wasn't seasoned. My boyfriend and his niece enjoyed theirs, so it's just a matter of opinion.
The waiter was nice and did the best he could with all the crowd. Given the number of customers I think the time from ordering to getting our food was reasonable. For three people ordering burgers and fries, I think the $50 bill was high, but we wanted to try a new place and I'm glad we did
robyn sims
Food was okay, asked about the history and was told to go to website to read about it. Shouldn't they be telling the story themselves? Service was bad. Colleen wasn't very attentive and we had to get up to get her several times when she forgot to bring our drinks. A little disappointing
Timothy Garcia
These are the best burgers and fries in town. All the burgers have so much flavor and they are cooked properly. The fries are perfectly crisp and salty. Beer prices and selection are decent. The staff and management are friendly and helpful. We have been two times and wondered why we bother going anywhere else for a burger anymore. Fantastic!
Colleen Goodman
My family and I have eaten at Kaelins for the last year and keep coming back on a regular basis!! They’ve been great to my kids and a great family spot. They’ve also been a great spot for an adult night out. We love their patio in the summer and have loved the tent they set up for the winter. They have been on top of the Covid policies while not sacrificing any service or quality. The food is amazing - especially the burgers and crispy brussel sprouts! My daughter asked for a second burger the last time we were there because she just “loved it so much!” (We compromised and took one home for later 😀). I highly recommend this restaurant.
Paul Kinkade
Come here now. The food and service were terrific. We both had 2 different burgers with Mac and Cheese and my wife had onion rings. Awesome. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic.
Rachel Zabonick
Best burger I’ve had in Louisville. Great service and value for the price. We were very pleasantly surprised for our first visit. They’re also doing social distancing very well. Felt very safe outside.
Bryan Anthony
Food was good. Service was a little lacking. They weren't super busy but only had one waiter it seemed so it felt like everything took forever. I ordered the patty melt which was good but a tad dry. Also had a bourbon apple butter milkshake that was really good. If I'm in the area I will definitely try again.
Tracy Ester
The benedictine BLT was amazing! Atmosphere was great and March Madness was in the screens. Our server was patient and very helpful.100% recommend!
shonda wade
Okay So this might be my new Favorite place to Go to !!! So I had the Short Ribs dinner with White Cheddar Grits and the Crispy Brussel sprouts . Let me just say that Spare Rib melted in my mouth the grits and Brussel Sprouts complemented it oh so well. I'm oh so impressed . The atmosphere was welcoming to all and the staff friendly and professional . Great meal , drinks made to order if wanted. I'll definitely be back !!!
Adam Hoette
The burgers were excellent. Our family of 4 (2 kids under 10) all found something that we enjoyed. The brussel sprouts app was amazing. Atmosphere was cool, with a light and open modern layout. Can’t wait to come back and eat outside and try the ice cream!
Rami RamRam
The place is so great, I went for dinner with my buddy, the burgers were so delicious and timely served, our server Chelsea was amazing, kept out water class filled, definitely I’ll be going back.
George Wise
Very clean appearance when I walked into the restaurant and attached malt shop for the first time. That made me feel a lot better, apart from the first time jitters. The ribeye burger combo and fried pickles were excellent. The burger was cooked medium well and fully complemented with a sunny side up egg and delicious crispy bacon strips. The fried potatoes were done just right. I will return for more. Thank you.
Kaysha Wheeler
Let me just start by saying whoever designed the place did an amazing job! The service was subpar, half of the waitstaff was at the indoor/outdoor bar during our meal. I was expecting more beef burger options. The burger was very dry, did not taste fresh, and the food was cold. The hot brown turkey burger was probably the thinnest slice of “turkey” I’ve ever seen and basically tasted like sun dried tomatoes. Would not recommend.
Roy Parker
Great burgers and fries. Decent selection of beers. I didnt love the beer cheese but my wife did. The atmosphere is what you'll probably like the most. I'd go with 5 stars but the service was a bit slow. That could've been due to the staff changing over from lunch to dinner due to the time I arrived.
Proficient Potato
I got the Homemade black bean veggie burger which came with amazing Fries.
Mark Joubert
Great atmosphere. Great burgers. Good drink selection. Our waiter seemed a little off his game, but the rest of the team displayed great customer service. They have a Malt shop upstairs that is definitely worth a visit after your meal!
David Campbell
Well I do the independent gigs when I went there and visited this place I will say this I entered I was greeted by a hostess two of them restaurants been remodeled changed a little bit but it does have a bar there there's plenty of room it's well organized they have handicap accessible I believe they have an upstairs I wasn't too sure if I was told that or not I think they call it a co-host this was also there she was super super day and I was created I had to wait for my order there's also a ramp for wheelchairs walkers anybody going up and I think it's really super great and you're sitting down there's like a church pew and two chairs over to the next to the hostess stand and it's very spacious I saw team members hope each other and I think that teamwork is a good effort it really helps so it was I think it was another restaurant way sometime in the past but they still have it at least they still have it they have a bar there and have plenty of space which is well lit playing parking in the back go and try it folks what I saw I enjoyed what I was seeing
Misty Burgess
Decent burgers..salad dressing not so tasty. Bread very dry on the patty melt. This place shouldn’t be home of the cheeseburger...it should be home of the best meatloaf you will ever have! Mashed potatoes are also delicious! They also have the best cookies and cream milkshake!
Jennifer McCarty
Y'all, my car died (bushing on the shift cable?), and I was 50 paces from 80/20 at Kaelin's. Since I had to call an Uber, I stopped in for cocktails and dinner. Big props for 80/20, they are really really good.
Martin Heil
Great Burgers and Bourbon options. Also, everyone should try the fried pickles!
Richard Brown
Food was great, drinks were great, parking lot sucks! There really isn't a lot of good parking locations on the actual lot, especially if you drive a bigger vehicle. If you drive a bigger vehicle or the lot is full, just park on the side street. Other than that the biggest recommendation I can give is to reserve seating via the website, otherwise you could be looking at a little bit of a wait for being seated. As I said though, the food, drinks and atmosphere are very good so it is well worth it!

Had an fantastic meal and great experience tonight. Love the decor and the staff is super friendly and very attentive. My husband and I were sat at a table in the bar area and a large party had gathered at the corner of the bar and were bumping our chairs. Without saying anything the owner Chris noticed how uncomfortable we were and immediately sent the manager over to move us. That's the kind of attention to detail that makes a place stand out.
Food was great. Split the hush puppies, I had the grain burger, which was very unique and tasty and hubby had 80/20 burger, which required 2 napkins it was so juicy and piled high with toppings.
Glad we found this neighborhood gem. Will definately return next time we are in Louisville.
Scott Kashin
Awesome food, service and atmosphere. Portions were good and everything arrived piping hot. Only negative we felt (literally) were the metal seated chairs. Recommended!
Michael Wanta
My husband and I ate at 80/20 KAELINS. The food was very good. We loved the toasted brussel sprouts. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We had a time crunch with a zoo event and they managed to get us out in time.
teresa mcallister
The burgers are really good and the service was great.
Marcella Reddy
We had lunch on the patio. The food was great. But honestly, to us these days, we need to feel safe. And we truly did. They are following all the pandemic rules. It was a really nice opportunity to get out of the house. We will return!
Alexander Kain (Opelamayne)
not only was the burger phenomenal.
but i tried my sisters vegan sandwich. that also was very tasty and yad a nice crunch.
the fried food was ALL done to perfection and the homemade sauce ranch and 80-20 sauce were amazing with the fries and onion rings.
heck, i even dipped my last burger bite into it.
lastly on food. The chocolate milk shake was also very good.
My waitress was very knowledgeable about the food AND history of the place. she was attentive and had a beaming personality.
if i didnt have a reason to go back to Louisville. I do now.
Karen Phillips
We’ve eaten here twice during Covid...carry out. Food was really good both times (burgers, fries and chicken ). I’m interested to try other menu items that sound delicious like the ribeye burger. They were slammed yesterday (Valentines Day) and they got our order out on time and accurate. Highly recommend this place for excellent bar food
rob rahiya
Got there at 430, good start till food came. Hotn hammy burger had no ham, a timy piece of lettuce and no sauce. Took 25 minutes to get ketchup and 45 minutes to get our bill. What seemed to start great ended in disappointment.
Bert Irslinger
Excellent spot for casual dining. Great location with a cool atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was good, and the bourbon selection was excellent. Definitely worth the stop if you're in Louisville.
Patrick Carrico
A restaurant should stand on its own merits but I just can't help loving what Kaelin's 80/20 has done with the historic Kaelin's restaurant in Louisville. The inside is beautiful and more open than previous iterations. I like that the bar opens to the outside. The decor is tasteful and inviting.
I ordered the chorizo burger and my wife had the Kaelin's 80/20 burger. She likes them cooked well done all the way through and they delivered perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed my chorizo burger and the fries and onion rings that we ordered were exceptional.
We ate outside on the patio which is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a beer and a meal. The traffic is not intrusive but instead adds to the "active" environment. Service was prompt and friendly.
Mathis Smyth
Family friendly. We went there to try their cheeseburger. We had the Kaelin Double Burger. We're gluten sensitive, so the buns are always a stumbling block for us to enjoy a great burger. We weren't disappointed, the buns were very soft and tasty! Will return again.
Nelson Lopez
Great service, very attentive and the burgers and fries hit the spot. The refills of pop comes immediately. The servers were on top of things. It is cheap, fast, and clean for a lunch. The beers on draft can't be beat too. I would recommend for a quick lunch and nice seating and service.
Lisa Preuett
Excellent burgers! I’m celiac, so was thrilled they offer gluten free buns. The food was amazing and service was very personal. Their home made ice cream was the best way to end our meal.
Dennis Horn
Lunched here recently with a group of four and the place is quite different from the old Kaelin's (which is good). Great cheese burger, reminiscent to Steak and Shake (which is good), flat grilled and crunchy edges. I was not a fan of the onion rings--beer battered is not my favorite (they need to run out to Mike Linnigs and check their rings out). Loved the Brussel sprouts! Cool place with dedicated owners. I will return and tell others.
Teadora Monteith
great food, I love their brussel sprouts and other apps. they also have a malt shop on location which is ok
Bryan Ford
Got the awesome opportunity to try this place out for the first time with my boyfriend, a native of Louisville. He was familiar with the restaurant and decided it was the perfect place to experience together for our lowkey Monday date night. I was blown away. First off, the entrees were amazing. I had a chorizo burger, he had the grilled cheese with short rib, and both were to die for. Food was freshly prepared and presented well. Decor was desirable (cozy clean and comfortable). And above all. Service was phenomenal. Jason tended bar and served my party, he was very attentive and pleasant. I appreciated the attention to detail and the time he took to converse with me. Couldn't be happier!

Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon. Decor and service are great, but the food was mediocre. Our food was ran by someone who was not our server and both our orders were incorrect, which was not the servers fault. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, which were good but we were charged a dollar more than it is on the menu which is not much but still shouldn't be overlooked.
For 2 bratwursts, and the appetizer it was $38. Too expensive for what they were, which was burnt/dry. I won't be returning unless they fix their overpriced, burnt food.
On the other hand, the ice cream was good and standardly priced.
Oleta Lee
Not happy. There famous burger barely had any of the special sauce. It was over priced and the staff basically just want a tip. They were not friendly. I felt out if place. I won't go back. It's sad because someone recommend it. My boyfriend enjoyed the Ice cream. That's about it...thumbs down...
Robbie Lambert
This review is for LUNCH ONLY. I wanted to like it, I truly did. Further full disclosure, I was told the menu is changing "daily," so take this review with a grain of salt. All that said, I was disappointed. The burgers we're just "classic" and the brat I had had was topped well, but way overcooked. And my fries were the same. I didn't have I've cream, but the selection was varied, but small. I'll try again in a couple weeks. Hopefully it will be better.
Adam Levine
Besides me catching the host from afar vaping on one of those nicotine stick things, I actually enjoyed my meal. Very pleasant burgers might I say 😊. Waiter was great and friendly will definitely come back another time for more! …
John Perry
We stopped here to get a quick bite before deciding to walk and photograph at Joe Creason Park. We split a double Kaelin's Original Cheeseburger. The burger was good, as well as the service. I've been to this establishment in three iterations, and this third attempt is the best yet. A definite upgrade from the original Kaelin's and the Mulligan's that followed. Stop by and enjoy!
Mark Campbell
Great atmosphere and really good food. Try their Malt Shop if you get a chance. Kaelin's is known for their burgers and I recommend the 80/20 Burger. They can be busy at times though.
Krista Cheatham
The original cheeseburger is the best! The fries are so good, you don't need ketchup. All of the servers were very friendly and the vibe is very chill. I can't wait to go back and try more!
Sherry L
It was okay, when I used to eat there when I was young they used to be homemade hamburgers , they were good but however they were patties. The waitress was very nice extremely nice, the fried pickles were good. The atmosphere was very good.
Andrew M
They were very accommodating for my families vegan diet. We enjoyed a fantastic custom dish and thought it was exquisite. It was a grain cake with veggies and a hint of curry. They should definitely consider putting the dish on the main menu! Thank you!
Andrew Sleeth
We brought our 4 year old daughter with us. They had a kids menu and crayons for her. The service was wonderful and the food was awesome and everything was very clean. We had an amazing time and will go back for sure. Plenty of parking in the back also.
Emily O'Mara
I am pleased to inform you that a classic American cheeseburger has been added to the menu and is pretty darn good - juicy and well seasoned. Fries are a worthy accompaniment. I think they are still trying to figure everything out but for now the “malt shop” only serves burgers and dogs during lunch hours. After 3PM you better be in the mood for ice cream or eat at the adults table upstairs. Service is exceedingly gracious if a bit slow but if you’re in a hurry that’s what the drive thru window at McDonald’s is for. I enjoyed my visit to Kaelin’s as did my husband and 4 year old nephew - we’ll be back!
Glenn Benninger
Kaelin's has been around for a long time, but the new owners have picked up the tradition in fine order. The original cheeseburger is still top of class, and service was excellent and friendly. The interior was fresh and updated. I'll need to go again to try something else on the menu.
Antonio Profumo
To start with, the food was very good. We were happy with that. Now...on with my greivences. The amount of parking for the restaurant's current amount of business is inadequate. I would highly recommend making reservations, several days before one's planned visit...just to be sure you'll get a seat (at least till the overall crowds start to even-out., due to their recent reopening). Make sure you specify whether you wish to be seated inside or outside. If not, your automatically taken to the outdoor tables. Lastly, my wife's order was somehow not given to the kitchen, even though the waitress took her order. Ultimately, the manager rectified this and even comped her order. All ended well enough. Also be aware, no free refills of drinks (tea, soda).
Rick Brown
We stopped here while on a road trip. It looked interesting and figured we give it a shot. We came at lunch. The food was decent. Prices were good. The service was a little odd because you order and pay at the bar and then sit down and they bring your food out to you. It wasn't bad service, just being there for the first time we were expecting a sit down type place but once we got our food they were very attentive. The menu was more limited than I expected. Unless I missed something there were only a few choices. We would stop there again.
TD Miller
This is a great place for a burger! They have other options that are good as well but I'm partial to the burgers. They have several options to choose from but the ribeye is my favorite. Very flavorful meat with a few bun options make the perfect combination.
In the mood for a burger and fries? Stop by Kaelin's and you will not be disappointed!
Zaynab Riley
I think I picked the wrong day and time. It was extremely crowded, the orders was slow in coming and they were a little mixed up. I had to send mine back and I never got a replacement. I just paid for my husband's food and canceled the rest. I think the kitchen and wait staff was overwhelmed with so many people and kids. I sure its a great place; I just need to go at a better time. Their cool.
Gregg Svoma
Wow! After an afternoon at the Mega Cavern my wife and two teen kids were ready to eat before the drive back to central Indiana. We found Kaelin’s right around the corner and boy were we impressed. We don’t go out to eat much as we are accomplished in the kitchen and cook and eat mostly Keto meals. After looking over the menu online we believed Kaelin’s would work. We were greeted by several lovely young ladies and luckily were offered a table out on the deck immediately. Once seated we were cheerfully greeted by Chad, the bar manager who wasted no time edifying his team who were busy cranking out specialty drinks behind the bar. As a small business owner I was glad to see he was surrounded by a team he respected. We got a couple gin and sodas to start as well as the caprese salad appetizer and the wings in brown butter hot sauce. Both appetizers arrived in a timely manner and were quickly devoured by everyone. I have to say that the wings are really beyond words. They were so tender that I literally ate all the gristle off the bone! The kids, 13 yo girl and 16 yo boy, politely asked for seconds. I loved seeing our little pickey-eater daughter inhaling these wings! We all got bunless burgers and mine was gone before the second round of wings arrived. Their spin on coleslaw which added blue cheese was thoroughly enjoyed as well. We had a couple table-side visits by Bill, an owner, simply to confirm that everything met or exceeded expectations, which they did. A gin and soda is pretty simple, but this one was excellent, so Bill offered to get the gin and soda brands for me. Thank you, sir!
We love how they have resurrected this iconic restaurant and the way in which they honored the original proprietors and added their own modern blend to the menu and atmosphere. Great work, team! We look forward to making the trip back down again really soon. 😊👍
Kelly Dean
Great friends, funny server. Apps not good. My sandwich was yucko...However, I had the Best Chocolate malted in years!!!
Barbara Ruby
Lunch is VERY LIMITED. This was our 1st time & we thought we we would be in the full service restaurant. That part doesn't open till 5p.m. The ice cream shop is where they have a small lunch menu...order at a counter. Food was delicious & disappointing... How so? Burger & fries very good. Soup & salad also good, but the portion (for the money) on that was so small. I asked if it was a big bowl of soup & was told yes, but what came out was a normal sized bowl only filled half way & a handful of salad. It all tasted good & we will return to try the full service part of the restaurant.
Leith Clough
If you enjoy greasy messy burgers this is the place for you. The burger was so greasy the buns were saturated and fell apart- difficult to enjoy when the predominant flavor is grease. I am a fan of a juicy burger...this was not it.
The fries tasted a bit off..like they were fried in old grease.
The atmosphere is confusing..striving for a laid back austere upscale sports bar look? Not a place I feel comfortable returning to.
Mike Spurlock
Very good burgers. They grind their own meat so it's generally safe to order a burger medium rare if you want. Pretty good beer selection with an emphasis on local craft beer. Very nice remodeling job and plenty of parking.
chevvon porter
Nick was an awesome server very patient and full of suggestions. Food was good. The shrimp n grits was different from what I was used to a different take on it. Definitely will come back
Robert Baumgardner
Great little place to grab a bite to eat and Sunday brunch wasn't packed at all which was a welcome surprise. Just as a heads up if anyone does like I did: if you end up doing the brunch and getting your burger breakfast style, which includes hash, bacon, and egg with your burger, it means that the hash is a substitute for your fries it doesn't come on the burger. I was a little sad not getting fries but it hardly changes the service and food that we received. We'll definitely be back again.
Tari Morales
Their burgers are so good and they have a great selection of beers on draft! They also have boozy milkshakes!
Bradley Davis
A solid 4-star. Burger is good but not $15 good. Fries are great Mussel and Burger is a better bang for your buck for a pricier burger. Beer cheese is good, malts are excellent, and they nailed the decor. Also easy parking. Also, the entire staff has a jock vibe, which isn't bad, just funny.
Brandi Miller
Chris has executed an excellent restaurant with a diverse atmosphere for all to feel welcome. The food is unique, flavorful, and delicious. The service was great for opening weekend.
Great for date nights, a beer with friends, and is family friendly. Very clean restrooms.
I hope everyone who comes in also appreciates the decor. The light fixtures, wood, and flooring are beautiful! I highly recommend stopping by.
Michael Hammons
Being as someone who has culinary experience and skills I would like to say I'm very disappointed in the burger I had. The meat was bland and dry, I always order a plain burger to see if the burger is worth it or needs something to make it good. Well I put some ketchup on it so I could eat it with flavor. I gave 3 stars because our server was nice and the icecream was good. You're over priced for the bland meat you give people to eat.
Tyler Radford
They offer a great atmosphere. The black bean burger was very good and the fries were cooked to perfection. They offer a variety of local and craft beers on tap. Lastly the hush puppies were absolutely amazing!
Logan Unknown
This is by far the BEST burger I have ever had! The burger is always cooked to perfection and the fries never disappoint. If you haven't yet been here you definitely should go. 10/10 or should I say 80/20.
Larry Snyder
Very good fish sandwich and excellent service
Tina Carpenter
1st visit: Disappointed. I was super excited about trying a new burger place, as my husband loves a good burger. Set reservation for 4pm, arrived and was given both lunch and dinner menus, only to find out the burger he wanted to try was not available till 5pm. We could not order ANY ENTREE on dinner menu till 5. Was told that we should order from the lunch menu. Ok, not the end of the world, but a restaurant claimed to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger offers 1 classic burger on said menu! Along with 2 different sandwiches, and 3 different dogs! 1 burger but 3 hot dogs on the menu. Something doesn't seem right there. Needless to say we paid and left tip for what we had already ordered, and LEFT. Super disappointed.
Jennifer Marshall
We have excellent food and friendly, fast service every time we come! Everything they serve is fantastic. Some of our favorites are the ribeye burger and the fish sandwich.
N H
American cuisine seems great. Prices standard as similar competitors. Enjoyable atmosphere with excellent staff.
Daniel Simons
Rib eye burger, fries, cheese grits, and fried pickles were great. Chicken tenders were ok, but overshadowed by the other items. Service was friendly and quick.
Chris Flanigan
My wife and I were intrigued after reading the claim of being the home of the cheeseburger. We both ordered a classic with fries. Our burgers and fries were delicious, but we both agreed that there wasn't anything particularly groundbreaking about either of them. We would definitely eat here again.
Scott Rohde
Bill was just trying something new on Sunday, most didn't know they were even open. We just stumbled in and it was probably the best time in a restaurant I've had. We had the Pork platter and OMG, it was perfectly balanced right down to the fresh fried pork rine. Bill did an amazing job right down to the chocolate sundae with a cherry on top. This place has become my new favorite. Definitely will be coming back again and again. I've heard they have some awesome burgers, can't wait to try.
P M
Hands down always fantastic!!! Beer cheese, fries, burgers, benedictine ... just so many amazing options!
All Star Entertainment KY
Food great, service not so much. We did have a big party (20-+ people) and the waiter struggled. There should have been a 2nd server. Also, food was good although my burger was cold by the time i got the mayo I asked for. Can you tell me why when I ask for Mayo when I order the burger 90% of waitstaff personnel do not bring it and make me ask again? Very frustrating
Aaron Little
Recently went with my family for an early Father's Day dinner. Great BLT on Texas toast, it was simple, but was spot on. Give it a shot and support local. And if you can't stop, please wave!
Kim Fillmore
We attended a Mother's Day event that was just wonderful! We were initially concerned about lack of vegetarian options, but called ahead to find out there would be plenty of options for all of us. Not sure if this was special to the group hosting the event, Mama To Mama, or they generally have these additional items. The staff is very friendly and efficient and a room was set up for the kids - complete with nannies, to make a variety of craft projects while being in close proximity to their Moms. Planning on going back.
JOE DOTSON
fried foods stuck together causing them to be doughy.
Burger was good but did not offset onion rings and fried green tomatoes.
Had to ask for table to be wiped. Several parties on patio asked to be relocated because of sewer smell
Todd Epley
Burgers are above average. I recommend getting the pretzel bun. The real highlight are the fries and the milkshakes! I get a vanilla malt every time.
Casey Miles
Not your grand parents Kaelins! They have really adjusted to the modernization of restaurants beautifully. Had the Steak super on point. And the Duck wings were probably the best I have ever eaten. Great service to boot. Will definitely be back.
Colan Beare
Bachelor Party weekend with the boys. Fresh out of a mid day nap and we head here. Let me tell you something special and I’m not kidding you one bit. THE MOST REFRESHING WATER IVE EVER HAD. Came here just to leave this review. Ice cold water, great server. Probably had 10 glasses
Leo Luna
Went for the first time with friend for Thanksgiving weekend. The Ribeye burger was delicious! Especially cause it had egg on their burger! Recommend the sprouts. Definitely coming back 👌 …
Patty J.
Beautiful spot and the food was delicious. Definitely must try the chicken and waffles and drinks!
Kayla Franck
A very friendly employee went the extra mile to make sure we had a good experience. We really REALLY enjoyed our chocolate malts! We plan to come back soon to try more of their homemade ice cream flavors and for burgers in their restaurant.
lindsey yanke
The service was very slow and it wasn't busy. I got the 80/20 burger and it was decent but really messy. My boyfriend got a salad with steak on it and he was very displeased with the size of the salad and both of our orders were over cooked. The place was pretty clean though and the server was nice once she got there
Meagan Mamrak
This place is great every time we go. The hotwing sauce made with a beet base this last time were my favorite. I also recommend the 80/20 burger and the fried pickles. Also, don't leave without a chocolate malt. It's the best I've had since childhood!
Tina Hunt
Little pricey ,but we'll worth it. Had bean burger and salad ,grand daughter had chicken fingers and fries ,some had burger and fries, husband had fried chicken ,mashed potatoes, bisquit..garnd daughter and I shaired pineapple guava passion ,ice cream more like sorbet. Loved ever minute.
Ivy Parsons
The chorizo burger could've had a little more chorizo in it, but it was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in my life (and I grew up on a beef cattle farm) and the ice cream from the parlor next door was an amazing finish to the meal. The server and the cocktails were also delightful. Not cheap, but not overpriced- can't wait to go back again.
FusionaryGamer
Amazing servers. Great burgers. Great fried mushrooms, wide variety of shake and ice cream flavors. 10/10 burger place. Just tell them how you want your burger unless you like it well done.
the quietman
Nothing above average for this place. Food was ok, chicken was good, everything else just meh......service took awhile just an average nothing outstanding place
John Porter
First time eating here. Food was not bad. But the service needs improvement. The staff was friendly but we would go long periods of time before we would ever see anyone. We were there for over two hours and most of it was waiting on food, or waiting on the service. Which surprised us because it was around 3 pm when we got there. It was not busy.
Jacob Watkins
The fries were honetly the best part. We got the beer cheese with the pretzel bread as well. The bread was amazing, but the cheese needed some work.
DO NOT GET THEIR PUMPKIN RAVIOLI. IT WAS NASTY.
luckly the waiter took the price of the RAVIOLI off of the ticket.
I enjoyed the atmosphere, although it was pretty chilly inside the restaurant, like 65 degrees by the bar. The waiter was extremely pleasant and the inside of the restaurant was inviting as well.
Not a bad place to go and eat, just know exactly what you are ordering.
P.s. try their fries. They are amazing.
matthew hargitt
Food was on point! The Beer cheese alone is worth the trip out. Greated at the door by Tina who made us feel welcome and at hone immediately. Manager interaction we had incredible. Shout out to Bill for crushing it. Again cant talk more about the food. 80/20 burger delivered in a big way, hot brown burger was amazing, sweet potatoe mornay? Mind blown! Great food. Will be back again for sure.
Scott Nussbaum
Food was delicious, particular server did not care and had no CUSTOMER SERVICE skills. Wrong sandwich was brought out and instead of replacing it with correct one tried to bring SOME of the missing toppings then when I asked for manager never went and got them. After I asked another server to get the manager and they did, the manager did a terrific job with CUSTOMER SERVICE! In the end I was VERY PLEASED WITH OUTCOME, just sad to think other poor soles have had to probably deal with that server! The food is way too expensive to deal with bad service.
James Warren
We ordered carryout. It was hot tasty and delicious. My wife loved the generous portion of shrimp in her shrimp scampi. I got the beer battered fish and it was very tasty
Justin Business
Absolutely love the fries and the atmosphere. The say the hamburger turned to the cheese burger first here (or at kaelins) and I believe that. The handmade icecreme parlor is super and the atmosphere is so nice, crowd is kinda thick at dinner but lunch is good.
Only gripe is I want Swiss cheese .... Make it happen :)
Tracy Cooper
Great looking restaurant/bar. Most of the menu is "bar food" i.e. great with beer. Roast beef sandwich was good, but I had to ask for lettuce and tomato after it was served. Friend had a burger that was very tasty. Will go again.
Jennifer Gray
Wow, not the Kaelin's of old, but really good food and a great updated atmosphere. Dining inside or on the patio. Ice cream shop next door with porch swings to enjoy a treat and a pleasant evening. A bit pricey but worth it. Great for groups or a dinner for two.
Candy Middleton
Cute, artsy, fun little place with awesome, friendly service. Food was great! It was "Burger Week" when we went, so of course we tried the Burgers. They were super yummy!
Elizabeth Findley
Such a fun place! The burgers are hand ground sirloin and they are so flavorful. Also, stop next door at The Malt Shop and get some homemade ice cream. We will definitely be back!
Tracy Davis
We had classic burgers and fries and onion rings. It copay around $27 which is kinda pricey for burgers. All that said the burgers were very good, fries were amazing and onion rings were good. Nice atmosphere, limited parking.
Greg Simms
Great place to take kids. Their patio is nice, spacious. The burgers are legit and they typically have a great beer selection. Save room for the ice cream.
Joshua Spriggs
Went for an impromptu lunch. We arrived during the switch over, so the menu was pared down, which was a disappointment. We all shared the beer cheese and pretzel, which was solid, though a second pretzel should be included with the amount of cheese served.
My wife ordered the ribeye burger, which look great. She loved it, though said the pretzel bun didnt really hold up to all the wetness of the burger.
One of the boys and I both got a new burger, that doesnt appear online... american cheese, dusseldorf mustard and shredded onion on brioche. It was very good, though more of everything except the onion would have made it top notch.
The other boy got the classic burger and loved his as well.
All the burgers were over done, but not to the point of dry.
The fries were the pinnacle of the experience.
All in all, we'll go again. Service was very good.
Rory J
I live right down the road and this is our go to resturant for a quick but nice evening of drinks and food. They are known for thier cheeseburgers but I think they are just ok. Everything else though is great! I especially like the chicken dinner with mash potatos. The staff is friendly, plenty of TVs so I don't have to pay attention to my wife and usually a good special on the menu.
Dentia Norris
This is an outstanding restaurant! The staff is friendly, professional, and the food is great. I hosted a retirement party at the restaurant and it was amazing. I definitely recommend this location to everyone!
Jason Ferris
We had lunch in the upstairs dining room. Salad and cheeseburger were great. Giving only 4 stars because we tried to get ice cream afterwards at the attached malt shop but no employees were there to help anyone. But we will go back. The interior is beautifully renovated.
Shawn Redemann
Kaelin's Sunday brunch is excellent. My wife and I got a great burger breakfast style (with fried egg and bacon added along with side of hash potatos and sweet potatos in some sort of syrup like sauce). The kids hot Belgian waffles with bacon. The hash was good, but next time I think I'll opt for normal fries instead.
Rick Kipley
Way more than just burgers. Meat loaf is the best I've ever had, fried chicken has some serious flavor. Really good
Nonya
Great service great food! Atmosphere is very chill:)
Bradford Siewert
Kaelin's has the best braised ribs I've ever had in my life. Also the best potatoes, mac and cheese, meatloaf, and brussel sprouts... And I don't even like brussel sprouts, but I love Kaelin's!!! If you haven't eaten there then you are missing out!
BforBidness
Stopped in for lunch. Perfect service. Not busy when i went. The burger was great, but the fries are what blew me away
Jim Sadlo
I had a delicious ribeye tonight with chimichurri sauce. I was skeptical at first as I would have never paired the two flavors but they worked very nicely together. There's an excellent drink selection and an ice cream shop next door to boot . The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Janice Frederick
Great double cheeseburger and fries.
Great service. Fun place to visit.
Will go back, may try fried chicken because it looked so good.
Yohimar Sivira
The best burger I have had in Louisville! Service is great too...
Haley Fout
Came here for lunch after the zoo, great food and amazing ice cream. Had the apple butter bourbon ice cream and it tasted like a dream. Love the ambiance of the restaurant and will definitely be coming back.
Robert Smith
Better than expected. Was busy but got a seat right away.
DeRenda Harris
We went on Father's Day so our food took a while. We got the Classic burger which comes with fries, and it was great! We will definitely go again.
D Yskes
Great service, great food! Plenty of parking!
Mary Wegener
We were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Kaelin's for our private party after Bellarmine University's graduation! The owners of this place were nothing short of WONDERFUL! First, the renovation and transformation of this establishment are AWESOME! They incorporated the old with the new, and it is BEAUTIFUL. Exposed lighting, rustic wood, teal metal stools, barn wood, old mirrors, etc. Just the right mix of casual, classic, and contemporary. Perfect for a date night, family dinner, girls night out, or guys night out. Come in your dress or come in your jeans. The food was FANTASTIC. Impressive and diverse menu and every single thing was DELICIOUS. Our service was OUTSTANDING. They have a perfect party room upstairs with its own private bar. We loved everything about this place and you will, too! Check it out the minute it opens! We can't wait to go back. Thank you for a wonderful graduation celebration!
With love from Tommy Wegener's mom <3
Airman Master Account
Great place for Stouts and Brussel Sprouts.
Jay P
Great experience. The food was wonderful and affordable. We had the poutine and Hot Brown burger. Oh my! Can't wait to go back and try the full menu.
Chandler Bainter
Food was good and plentiful, but I really have a hard time paying that much for a burger. I'd like to return to try some of the other dishes. Host/Food runner was great. Service was meh.
Casey Adams
One of the best burgers in Louisville. The fried chicken will go toe-to-toe with any fried chicken I've had. The fried pickles are even better than advertised. Also, get a milkshake or malt. Seriously....get one. Now.
Kara Amundson
Wow. Kaelin's is The Home of The Cheeseburger, and about 15 years ago I stopped in. I wasn't wild about my Original Experience (American cheese). I recently saw the packed lot and gave it another try.
Big change.
The restaurant has undergone a massive facelift, both architecturally and with the menu. I had a simple but smashing cheeseburger with all the trimmings (grilled Os, red & yellow local tomatoes, leaf lettuce, more I'm sure), on a pretzel roll; also smashing smashed yellow potatoes on the side. A nut-brown ale recommended by the bartender proved to be excellent as well.
Kaelin's now has a deck, open to the bar. It's a beautiful space and gives the place a breezy, beachy feel. Wonderful, even--as when I was there--the sun is setting and the near-horizontal rays come slanting in to blind you. Just bring shades. Add cool points to a great meal.

So good!! We loved the burgers, fries, drinks, and milkshakes! A little too expensive for us to go to regularly but is definitely worth every penny and will become a date/special occasion spot!

Fast friendly service. Great food!
Brian Olberz
The food was really great, but what I appreciated even more was how family friendly they are!! The servers and even the management were great with our young kids, ensuring they were having a great time, which in turn ensured we had a great time. Highly recommended!

Forget the burger joints and cookie cutter chains...make this your go-to burger fix, where, as everyone on staff will happily inform you, everything is made in-house, from scratch. Finish your meal by walking upstairs to their throwback ice cream parlor and treat yourself to a scoop(or two) of, you guessed it, house made ice cream. Delicious!

The best burger I have eaten in Louisville so far! So flavorful! The service is excellent, the Old Fashioned was fantastic and the service was wonderful.
Mary Hicks
Good burger, a little dry, as was the waiter.
Latrice A
We love Kevin, the bartender!!! The only reason we come here! Cheers!
Chad Ingram
We both chose the chicken and waffles for brunch and were pleasantly surprised by the presentation. The saffron was a bit over the top. The corn meal waffle had an interesting taste and texture and the chicken needed salt. The Bloody Mary was the highlight.
Liam Carse
A bit expensive, but tasty for the price. IMO the milkshakes aren't worth the price, but I might have gotten unlucky. Great asthetic. Parking can be tight but definetly manageable

This was a great experience, we originally wanted to eat in the restaurant but it was cold inside so we decided the patio instead, the drinks were fabulous, the food was excellent, service with a smile, my only complaint would be the flies, they were bad on the patio, next time we'll eat inside and bring a sweater or jacket 😉

To be fair I've only had their 80/20 burger (the one with the pretzel bun) the few times I've been there and let me tell you it's so good. Great quality meat love hand pressed hamburgers.
Adrian Peterson
Were very accommodating and worked efficiently with our large 20+ party. The pork burger was delicious and my kids loved their chicken fingers/fries. Great patio!
Daniel Feldman (Daniel J Feldman, PhD)
Super fantastic as always with my general complaint about German Irish pubs not having enough non dairy non meat options... I love the frickled pickles and fried green tomatoes here but you can only do those so many times :) service is always so friendly
Evan Sharpley
Awesome venue. Crushed a burger! Devon took great care of us! We were able to test the ice cream (made in-house) from the creamery that hasn’t opened yet. Fantastic chocolate ice cream!
John Marshall
Great food 👍 and waiter was probably the best server we have had. Thank you for the great service and food. Was worth the 4 hour drive to eat here and see the cave Christmas light show. …
Shanna Hodgson
We love it here
The fried cauliflower is delicious 😋

So glad to see this place open again! I'm loving tmw new patio! I had a ri eye burger my friend had the short ribs. Both were delicious
My fave was the FGTs, theyre homemade traditional style with corn meal. Yummy!

Service was great! Went during Burger Week, was able to get in and out with no wait. Their grits are awesome, burger was just ok.
Nancy Alvey
Keep in mind this is NOT Kaelin's. There is not even a cheeseburger listed on the menu, which was one of Kaelin's claim to fame. I had the Hot Brown Burger. It was a turkey burger. While it tasted ok, it was not worth $14. If you are in to burgers with fancy names for the bacon, sauce, cheese or tomatoes then this might be for you. $10 for a glass of house Moscato is a bit high also. It was a busy nite with a few parties there, so service was not great. We were seated in the ice cream parlor, which was ok but our poor waitress was running back & forth. Probably will not go back.

A place called 80/20 and claiming to be the birth place of the burger better have great burgers, and they do. They serve very juicy burgers and other meals at a good price. They also have a malt shop for dessert.
Brandon Whitaker
I really liked this place. The food was excellent and the staff was amazing. The atmosphere here is very laid back and chill. The ice cream they serve is also amazing. This will certainly be a place I come back to.
Elena Black
We had our company Christmas brunch in the upstairs room today. We ended up having more people than originally anticipated and the staff accomodated us kindly. Amandarae was our server, and she exceeded my expectations over and over again!! With 23 people, she kept all of us with a full drink the entire time! The food came out hot and everyone enjoyed their meal. Thank you, thank you! We will be back!
Clayton Potts
The chicken sandwich was pretty good but the fries were kind of salty,
also we went to see some friends but since there were 11 people total we had to sit at two different tables because they only allowed 10 people per table, lame.
linda brill
The burgers came fully dressed even though we asked for simple modifications, but overall amazing. The coffee milkshake and Oreo milkshake = delicious! We'll definitely be back!
Matt Logsdon
Great burgers and awesome staff. Love the patio when it's nice out. Ice cream is great too. Loved the cookies 'n cream
Doye Miller
Excellent Bacon Benadictine Sandwich with smashed potatoes. Our waitress Alexa was extremely friendly and attentaive to our needs for our large group.
JD Raine
Place was packed for burger week so service wae spotty ,but the manager and servers were all very pleasant. And ,the food was excellent;particularly the capresi salad
Melanie Rudolph
Delicious mint julep ice cream ! Great dessert option !! Recommend ❤️
Teng Lor
First time here with my neice and nephew. Did a reservation and everything lol. The service was fast and the food is delicious! One of my nephew got dessert and he never gets dessert. We'd come here again.
Mike Lewis
A great restaurant experience! From the greeters, servers and even the owners all who go out of their way to make certain your time spent with them is par excellence! Devon has the smile that launched 1,000 ships, very friendly and knowledgeable of everything on their menu. We're sampling every tender morsal each visit. Chef Matt, part-owner, knows how to prepare a delicious meal and runs a tight ship. The food is prepared correctly the first time and promptly out to our table. Started with the Lolipops Drums...fall off the friggen' bone delicious. We opted for the Hot Brown and Black Bean burgers...Yum! All the while, owners, Chris and Bill, are roaming every table checking on folks while the music is pumping, conversations flowing...ultimately an evening out on the patio couldn't have been spent anywhere else for us!
Teresa A. Davis
Delicious! Brussel sprouts with bacon jam appetizer was fabulous. Burgers are outstanding!!
Joe Eberling
it was pretty good, not great. my wife's burger was under cooked and mine was over cooked . I also thought it was overpriced, I think 15$ for a burger is a bit much
Brad Raymer
Been here several times food is always good, occasionally great. Today prompted a review after awesome service, excellent food and nice drink options.
Margie Waflart
Casual, comfortable place. Orders came quickly and were correct. Wait staff were friendly and we'll trained.
Walter Koczot
The space is beautiful and tastefully done. The food is nicely prepared but in an attempt to be trendy their use of different spices on traditional favorites was disappointing. Guess I was looking for more tradition given the history of the location.
Scott Meeker
Wow! What a great menu and awesome good!
Lisa Goodman
The apartment and strawberry milkshake was the best. Spinach and artichoke dip was the best I ever had. Chicken wings was cooked perfect. Will return soon
Latrice Dickey
The classic cheeseburger & fries was very good, I requested the special sauce on the side. Will definitely return in the near future.
Mia Thomas
Great food and service! Save room for the ice cream.
Sean Donnahoe
This is a great place. Brining back the original Kaelin's vibe, with an updated, locally sourced menu. Everything is made to order and from scratch. The food was great and the staff was quick. Very friendly atmosphere. I would consider this a good 'date night'.
Anne Maupin
Very good. My burger was cooked perfectly, appetizers are crave worthy, desserts are to die for, and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommend.
Dai'shawn Hunt
My girlfriend and I ate here tonight and everything was excellent, from the food to the service, very good job! We will definitely be back again soon!
Richard Stottman
Tried the cheeseburger and fries. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. Staff was nice, and service was quick. We will be back soon!
Andrew Park
Great fired cheese tards and cheese burger
Lynn R
Service was very slow, but polite. Took food way too long to arrive, but tasty. Was never offered a refill on our drinks while eating, but offered one to go.
Mary Walker
Place was good
Aaron Reedy
This was our first trip in a decade. Amazing food but a bit slow.
Dimond Shelton
Kaelin’s never fails to disappoint! Just had the fish sandwich with a chicken tender appetizer on Friday. Might even dare to say this is our favorite restaurant in the city.
Cynthia Clay
Great food, friendly staff, and nice atmosphere we will definitely eat here again when we're in town.
Ashley Davis
Food was pretty good, but they were short staffed when we went so service was slow. Would go back and get again though. Ice cream sandwich was great!
Kyla Marie
Great service, awesome tasty food.....and quick!
Ollie Drury
Food was absolutely delicious. However, if you are a big eater, then you may want to eat lunch rather than dinner. The portions are just more lunch appropriate than dinner.
Maddy Jones
Emma R was absolutely fantastic and kept our birthday party upbeat and lively despite the 'rona putting a damper on everything nowadays. Excellent icecream, too. Shout out to her!
Dustin Weckman
Food and service was great, wish the meal was a little bit warmer. Overall we will be back.
G “MsGMM” MMor
Great food. Ambiance. Service.
Andrew Pierce
The updates done to the original restaurant are spectacular. I enjoyed this spot for the solid food and well-done decor. Great spot to grab a beer and some food before a Bellarmine hoops game!
AJ Riley
So this place is not bad, but it is not worth the price on the menu. I will say that they were at a time of so many being out of work they did seem to be fully staffed.
Addison Duncan
Went during Burger Week. Loved it! Ready to go back!
Sean Stafford
Great outside patio. Great food. Reasonably priced. Always great service.
Tracey Becker
Old Tyme Burger in new setting. Everything we ate was yummy, service was prompt. The feels a little sterile still
Jill L
Food was very good but way too expensive. Cost of a sandwich you can get a full dinner with more food somewhere else. Servers were very nice. Outside seating was very pleasant.
Tara Ogden
Decent. Nothing to brag about. The cocktails were watered down. The burgers were not cooked to order but were high priced. The service was great and the atmosphere was good.
Mike Slenski
80/20 burger was great and milkshake was outstanding. Server was efficient and entertaining. We'll be back.
Jonas B.
Your choices are cheeseburger, hot dog, bratwurst, grilled cheese and tomato soup, or alcohol.
This is the home of the cheeseburger, the very first cheeseburger ever sold was sold here. With that kind of pedigree I would expect the cheeseburger to have been better.
Pete Malin
Uncoordinated service. Order with errors brought out. By the time ranch dressing brought out fries were cold and soggy. Nice open remodel or rating would have neen a 2.
Andrew
Loud and crowded with indifferent staff. Food was average but overpriced for what was served. The menu has inventive takes on dishes but for us one was good choice the other was way off.
Jeff Sasher
What a wonderful experience! Matt the owner was very nice and accommodating. The busboy Bill was very professional and showed us to our table. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I will have to say try 80/20.
Jeremy Roberts
Becky!!!!!! OMG, you're amazing!!!
Seriously, best burgers in town!!!!
Gary Adair
Great food, great service. Where the cheeseburger was first created
Patrick Mcconnell
The catered food was amazing! The staff was friendly, and quick to tend to our needs.
I will have to go back for a dinner off the menu.
Karen Enlow
Yummy, interesting burgers. Oh, & the icecream, milk shakes and malts are out of this world! So glad Kaelin's has been"resurrected". I ate at the original as a child. 😄 …
Michael Kolesar
Good atmosphere, great service. Food is well made, great beer selection. The ice cream is handcrafted and awesome. Just solid comfort food.
Lee Spelled L-i (Calypso)
I ate here, when it was - only, Kaelin's. I love the changes, & seeing so many young people, involved, with the space. Thank you.
Melissa Honickel
This place is so fun. The atmosphere is up beat and fun. The good and drinks were so good. Are server Chad was so fun and entertaining. I would highly recommend this place. I am definitely coming back here again.
