Great atmosphere! Neighborhood eatery with character. The staff were all super nice and attentive. I had the ahi tuna which was amazing. Little crispy rice cubes with tuna on top and excellent seasoning. The blue cheese chips were decadent. A little too salty but the crispyness under the creamy blue cheese was an amazing texture surprise with each bite. The cauliflower with a creamy hummus sauce was so flavorful. I like my cauliflower a bit less crunchy but overall quite tasty. I'll be back again for sure!

We did a 40 person dinner at this restaurant and truly couldn't be happier with how it turned out. EVERYTHING was delicious. Service was great, drinks were great, we had the restaurant to ourselves, and people raved about the food. Highly recommend this venue for any large group parties!

Everything was delicious. I think the keys is they don't try to overwhelm you with flavor. We started with the burrata, charred avocado and spicy tuna over crispy rice. For entrees we had the pork, stripped bass and chicken. Once again to point out that the food has just the right amount of flavor. You were able to appreciate the texture of the food, the presentation without being distracted by to much seasoning. The decor is trendy industrial-ish. The walls are adorned with artwork by abrushwiththelaw.com. If I had more money and space is but a couple of pieces. His style is abstract.

Delicious appetizers great to share with your table...We had the braised ribs and mashed potatoes that were so creamy and buttery. My Husband ate the cheeseburger and fries Yum!

Decent lunch spot - we had the tomato soup, burrata and the Thai peanut noodles, of which the Thai peanut noodles was particularly delicious and flavorsome. For mains, we had the ravioli and the roasted corn - the ravioli was average but the corn was delicious! The reason I gave it three stars was because it seemed as though the servers were trying to rush us through our meal by offering to clean up much before we were done. Otherwise it was a nice meal!

Updated review in 2021 after they changed the menu: Still one of my favorite restaurants in L.A. Great selection of everything including cocktails, wine common appetizers, entrees, and desserts. I recommend the El Diablo (with tequila or mezcal), cucumber martini, watermelon mojito, and the Palermo. For appetizers I recommend the artichokes, spicy tuna crispy rice, Korean BBQ spare ribs, the lamb and fennel sausage flatbread, burratta, and the Mac and cheese. My go-to entree is still the burger. Definitely order it with fries. I like to share the burger with someone who orders the pork dish. I heard the Veggie Burger is the best around. For dessert, I love the bread pudding and creme brulee. I didn't care for the chocolate cake.

I had my daughter's sweet 16 dinner at Upper West. Fred and the entire Upper West team made her day perfect! We were able to celebrate with approximately 20-25 friends ages 11-75 . ALL enjoyed their meal. Setting is also great for feeling safe during Covid with open air environment.

We came here for a last minute date night away from the kids and it was a very enjoyable and memorable meal. The drink selection was great and I didn't realize they had so many whiskeys at the bar. I for one was quite hungry and we got a few shareable plates and were actually quite full by the end of it. Put that in conjunction with the fact that this restaurant earns us five points per dollar on United mileage plus, and this is a place that is easily top on the list for repeats. Plenty of dishes and drinks for several visits and meals. Thanks for a great experience guys!

Great spot. Great bar and beer selection. Pretty broad menu and the 3 dishes we tried were all exceptional. The burger is one of the best I've had and I've consumed a lot of burgers.

Had a wonderful and very enjoyable meal here. The service was outstanding. The food was a unique combination of flavors spanning from all around the Mediterranean. And the whiskey selection was top-notch. Reasonably priced for the offering. Additionally their whiskey monger really really know what he was talking about and made great recommendations. Can't wait to go again when we are in town.

Everything I've had here is amazing! Both the food and drinks are to die for. Highly recommend the tuna crispy rice appetizer and the chips, salmon, and filet. They're usually playing silent black and white movies on the front porch too. Amazing spot for a family get together or a romantic date! I recommend it to everyone I know.

This is a restaurant my boyfriend and I go to once every 2-3 months. Food is excellent, staff remembers us and makes us feel at home. I love watching the old movies shown on the wall and the relaxed but lively atmosphere. The cocktails are delicious and arrive timely.

Beautiful ambiance, lovely staff who are warm and friendly and remember who you are. My fiancee proposed to me here on New Years Eve, the owner and waiters helped set the whole stage. We went in for the first time with about 25 guests for a office party. This was a super nice venue with amazing food and service. The cocktails are perfect. First proper dining experience since moving to LA. Great service and wait staff. Dad was on his third burger in two days and we both agreed it was the best. I ordered the pork tenderloin and list it as one of the best I've had. Didn't believe our waiter when he claimed to have the #5 IPA available off beer advocate since it'd likely be difficult to obtain. Shouldn't have sold him short! Verified and impressed they had it in stock along with multiple other options for wine and cocktails.

I’m a restaurant manager and I’m always impressed by this restaurant. My fiancé and I have been coming here once every few months for years and it is, hands down, our favorite restaurant. We order the same amazing things: Drinks: Strawberry Fields and Amber Beer Appetizer: Crunchy Rice; Octopus Entrées: Pork Tenderloin ; Flat Iron Steak Dessert: Key Lime Pie; Bread Pudding The food is amazing and the ambiance is great. They feature local artist by showcasing new art on their walls. Although the food and vibe are 10/10, it’s the customer service that keeps us coming back. The staff is attentive. No matter who our server is, everyone there is ready to lend a helping hand. FRED! FRED!! FRED!!! We love Fred! He greets us with a smile every time we come by. I love that he remembers us and takes the time to give me a hug and my fiancé a handshake. He’s a beautiful soul and he always makes us feel special. He makes us want to always come back! We recommend this place to everyone!

Amazing appetizers! They were so good that we decided to do a second round of appetizers instead of ordering a dinner plate. We had the shrimp gulf ceviche, the spicy ahi tuna, the chargrill octopus, and the short ribs. Our party of four was completely satisfy 😌

After learning about the popularity among locals, my husband and I were intrigued to pay a visit. The most beautiful thing about this place is their indoor decors. I am a big fan of hanger lights and they add beauty to this place. We ordered charred avocado and peanut noodles. The avocado was grilled with goat cheese and it turned to be a bummer for me. But the cold peanut noodles was great with mild flavoring as the way I like it to be.The staffs are very polite and inviting. Definitely a great spot to get your food and drinks with friends on special occasions. Now I am not surprised why that locals love this place so much !!!

Great food. Chicken curry was excellent, salmon and bass also great. Service was perfect and the owner came around a few times to check in. Love the Mediterranean influence on the food - hummus, tahini, cous-cous... I'd easily go back again. BUT skip the desert and coffee. The deserts are just way too much and don't have that same quality as the food. I would have preferred smaller, more delicate portions... The key lime tart had way too much whip cream and the popcorn over the bread pudding was totally unnecessary IMO. Regardless, great experience, left happy.

Not a relaxing place for dinner. The parking was awful. We asked the owner if they have parking. He said don't pay attention to the street signs. They don't reinforce it. We didn't want to have dinner while worrying about a ticket. Finally, we found a meter and parked. The food was average good. Inside was loud and even though, they don't rush you, you can't really talk and hear well. Gave 3 stars just because of food. No ambience!

Love the look and feel of this place and the food was good. We were checked on often, even by what I guessed was the owner himself and everyone was very friendly. The only downside was that the staff weren't communicating with each other so we had about 4 different people asking to take our order. However I would happily go here once inside dining is allowed to get the full feel of the restaurant.

My husband arranged a surprise birthday party for me here and it was fantastic! The staff went above and beyond to make me feel special - said happy birthday, shook my hand, and very importantly ensured I had a full glass of bubbles all night. The service and food was excellent. We have just moved to LA and this will soon become our regular after Saturday night ! The pork dish was superb ! Highly recommend

Pretty sweet spot. The food is pretty good here, pretty different than what you might find at your run of the mill restaurant. Food is fresh and innovative. This is a really great spot for the Los Angeles foodie. The wine list is great and the cocktails are on point. Service is pretty great here. The atmosphere is great for getting together with friends or taking a date out.

Wasnt sure, new place for us, the waiter Max made us very comfortable. His knowledge of the menu and recommendation of the wine was spot on. I got the chicken sandwich which he personally vouched for and it couldnt have been better and the wine selection was excellent.

The atmosphere is exciting and refreshing. The staff makes you feel at home and as good is athe food is, you don't want to leave! I had meals from Upper West 3 nights in a row. Each night I tryed something different and each night my meal was fantastic. My favorite was the Prime Short Rib Of Beef. It wS so succulent, juicy and seasoned to perfection. The first night of my stay in Santa Monica my associates brought me dinner to my room. They had chosen The Hamburger for me. I'm not all that fond of Hamburgers. Upper Wests burger changed my mind instantly. This was like having your best steak cooked to perfection, you didnt need to cut and seasoned to perfection. The bun added items blended in to perfection. After that night, staying in my room wasn't an option. I ate at Upper West rezt of my stay in Santa Monica. I'm so glad I did because I would of missed out on the fun art on the walls, open atmosphere, fantastic appetizers and warm and friendly Hosts. If in Santa Monica you have to give them a try. I assure you, you won't regret it.

Great spot for a date night, we walked in on a Friday night and the owner managed to get us seats at a 6 person table in order to accommodate our lack of reservation in a packed house. We ordered Ethan's Mac and cheese which was rich in flavor and the short ribs which literally melted in our mouths. The drinks were phenomenal, and the service was on point. I have to say they served us well for my first visit, and I would come here time and time again. Classy restaurant.

Loved everything about this place. Nice room. Great drink selection including a wide variety of whiskeys. The owner spent the night in the dining room, talking to guests and making sure everyone had a good time. Lots to like on the menu too. We were a party of 5 with a 4 and 5 year old and everyone loved their dishes. Highly recommend.

Have visited for lunch, dinner and a large group gathering and all three experiences were top notch albeit different. For lunch it is a nice place to have a good, quick meal and be in relative quiet. Dinner is a bit more crowded and lively as the bar is quite popular The drinks and selection of liquor is impressive and the bar staff does a great job The food for dinner is a lot more sophisticated but also has a good selection whether you are in the modd for comfort type food or something quite sophisticated. The staff is attentive and very helpful. Of all the visits I have not had anything that wasn't excellent. Highly recommend!

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. Definitely one of my favorite places for date night with the hubby, or just to hang out with the girls. The place looks great, , the service is awesome and the food is delish! The menu is diverse, being a vegetarian I have lots of dishes to choose from which is great. I am a true fan of their veggie burger and their divine THE BEST bread pudding in town. Highly recommended, simply AMAZING!

Great experience. Went in as a party of 10. The service was sometimes lacking as one of my party wanted a refill of coke and it took about five or seven minutes to get a waiter to refill it. The food was delicious. I got the veggie burger with a green tea.

We stopped by without a reservation. It was a busy day for them but the host was so accommodating. The waitress we had was so knowledgeable about the ingredient and told us what to get (my hub has garlic allergy and me with gluten intolerance agh) Valet staff was not rude like other places nearby. I believe this is a family owned business? Very charming. We will be back.

love the food!! its fantastic!! the service at tables at times are inadequate. The service should be on point due to the high positive energy level that flows throughout this restaurant /bar! Once you walk in you feel it! The expectations of service should follow that! Times when i am there, the waiting service can be slow or staff is forgetful on orders. Once they are aware of their fumble, they do correct. A place like Upperwest, should not have to correct mistakes like that. Be on Point!!

My experience at The Upper West was very positive! Dinner was awesome. I ordered the Flat Iron Steak and it honestly just melted in my mouth. The Brussel Sprouts were good and the Carrot Cake I had for dessert was amazing. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant and dinner very much. I will visit again!

Upper West is a tremendous restaurant - a bit of a hidden gem in Santa Monica - tucked away from the main drag. It may be a bit out of town, but it is certainly worth the trip, and there is plenty of street parking around the restaurant. The menu here is excellent - an exploration of modern American cooking with plenty of flavour and flair from around the globe featuring too. The starters are to die for - I cannot recommend the burrata or glazed chicken dishes enough. The first paired with beautifully sharp blackberries and apple to cut through the rich, but fresh, cheese, and the crispy chicken pieces coated in a sticky, sweet, oriental inspired glaze. Superb. The service can be a touch slow, but the servers themselves are a friendly bunch, and very knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant. Always willing to help. Another stand out feature here is the cocktail menu - superb artisanal spirits mixed with fresh fruits and other mixers... Simply divine. An interesting set of original creations as well as the essential classics. Priced very generously, and not at all stuffy given the class that exudes from the kitchen. A winner.

I have been going to Upper West since it has opened, and it is only getting better. The grilled cheese is the best grilled cheese I have ever tasted and the service was wonderful. Not only are the prices reasonable, but the chef combines flavors that are unique and that I cannot find anywhere else such as the Spiced Tuna Loin with corn relish and the Mac and Cheese with tarragon. No matter what you order, I know you will love it. On top of it all, it has the best veggie burger in all of Los Angeles!! If I could give it 6 stars I would.

I first enjoyed this wonderful restaurant 9 years ago. Than, after two years of close relationships with the team, it happened that for the next seven years I do not come to LA. Now, I was so happy to find this lovely restaurant still full, serving a modern fusion dishes, delicious and well plated. You definitely want to reserve a table once you are around Santa Monica.

If you are into places that charge a lot for small portions of "high quality" food, then this is your place. I'm the kind of guy who leaves a restaurant when prices are listed without a decimal and served a la cart. Good thing this was a corporate meal otherwise I wouldn't have made it past the front door. The picture below was a braised prime short rib on mash potatoes. One short rib, TWO scoops of potatoes, that's it. And how much for a single short rib on top of two scoops of potatoes? $33.00! Yikes!!! After eating here I had to drop by Del Taco on the way home and get a burrito because I was still hungry. I'd rather go to Chili's and get a appetizer, steak dinner and dessert for my wife and I for $25, or feed my family of 6 for under $100. The service was great and the meal tasted OK, but not worth the 45 minute drive and the price tag.

We had a great experience at The Upper West. Fred and the rest of his staff did a great job working with my wife and me to create a beautiful intimate wedding experience in the private room. They have great attention to detail and immaculate service. Fred was gracious enough to meet with us in person to plan, as well as exchange emails and phone calls. He made it very easy. Also, the food was beyond reproach—truly exceptional. I highly recommend The Upper West for any private event. The next time I’m in LA, I can’t wait to return for dinner with my wife.

I went to this restaurant on August 11th 2018 around 9pm. Great atmosphere, although very loud. Delicious food and a manager/owner that really seemed to care. My server, ugh. A messy-haired, scruffy-faced man who sauntered around the restaurant with a lackadaisical attitude. He was annoyed with me when I asked a few questions about the soup and dessert. He actually raised his voice and said, “Just order what you want”. I of course left him a 20% gratuity even though it wasn’t deserved. Thanks for the great food though!

Love this place! The decor, the staff, the FOOD!, and the excellent Scotch/Bourbon/Beer/Wine selection makes this place a must visit. I also love the 12 foot projector screen playing old movies, the music and the overall vibe of this restaurant. If you haven't been, go. You'll be glad you did.

So epic!! Great experience in all aspects. Prompt seating, perfect time in between waitor visits, prompt food and drink service and that isn't even to mention how delicious the food and drinks were! I would eat here every day if I could! If you are trying to choose a place in West LA I highly recommend this spot. This is everything desired in a restaurant. Love this place! Staff is so friendly, young, and trending. Great ambiance with dim lighting, movie playing on a back wall. MUST TRY: The Burger (arugula and goat cheese spread to die for) and the best Ginger Cosmo in town :). Good location, valet out in front but street parking is not hard to find. Cant go wrong with this place for dinner, drinks, date night, or group party.

My husband and I had dinner here on Christmas Eve for the first time. We fell in love with this place. The food was fantastic, the staff exceptional, and the ambiance was on point. I ordered the blackened salmon with fatoosh salad. The salmon was savorlicious and the fatoush refreshing. My husband has the macaroni and cheese with mushrooms on the side. Of course I had a taste. The Mac and cheese was hearty goodness and the mushrooms ... wow! Everything was cooked to perfection!!! The desert was a prefect end to our experience. We splitter chocolate crunch cake with peanut butter ice cream and melted marshmallow. Holy smokes, it was scrumptious! Lastly, this would be a great place to just chill T the bar with a friend. The beer was GREAT! We highly recommend this restaurant!

What a gem!!! I love a bar where I can sit and be able to have a conversation with the people next to me. Or grab a table and have a more intimate meal. Friendliest staff I have ever met, and the bartenders always have a great story to tell. The menu changes all the time so I always find something to please my palate. My #1 choice when I am on that side of town.

Really enjoyed the buratta appetizer and the Lamb Bolognese. Best part was the key lime tart! Food was good, service was good. A little louder than I was looking for. I would definitely eat there again.

I had my birthday at Upper West recently and I had the BEST time. My reservation for a party of 15 was last minute increased to 17 people and the owner quickly accommodated my party. I had a Lychee Martini, the crispy glazed chicken for an appetizer, and miso glazed duck and apple meatballs for my entree. The meatballs were the best I've ever had! The chef managed to mix unique flavors together and it was truly delicious. For dessert, the restaurant brought out my brioche bread pudding with a candle and it tasted as good as it looked. The atmosphere was fun and needless to say, my party was highly satisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Our food was great, corn soup, green salad, blackened salmon, and coffee crusted porkloin. The service was very friendly and quick. However the acoustics were terrible. As dinner progressed we had to practically yell at each other to be heard and unfortunately others were doing the same. We opted to have dessert elsewhere because of this. That's a shame because we really enjoyed dinner.

This is a great restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and excellent service but what sets it apart is the food which is amazing. In 3 weeks in USA this is easily the best food I had eaten. The pan roasted sea bass with green lentil mujadara was superb and the chana masala and wild mushrooms were delicious. The standard of food and its presentation compares to anywhere I've been in London or Paris - if you live near here you're lucky.

Great food, great vibe. We got the lamb crepes per the recommendations of other reviews and was not disappointed. The braised lamb was render and juicy, and the crepes were served with a little bit of jus, really pronouncing the lamb flavor. The chicken tawook was maybe one of the best things I've eaten in LA. Perfectly cooked chicken, seasoned with a delicious smoky, kebab-like seasonings. Even the pita that comes with the meal was fluffy and done right. As the vibe is concerned, there is a hip bar that serves a variety of cocktails, spirits, wine, and beers. The music is chill and the vaulted ceilings control the noise level well. Check this place out!

I just love, love, love Upper West! I have been a fan since they opened their doors! First of all, the vibe is unmatched. Cool yet unpretentious, they manage to maintain a very easy atmosphere for their patrons and at the same time pay lots of attention to details. I can't pick my favorite cocktail, they are so well crafted that I let the bar tender surprise me with whatever concoction has inspired him that day. No matter what, they are always deliciously yummy. The menu is so easy yet so different. For a long time my fave was the lamb crepes, and then I tried their appetizer raviolo and it's absolutely worth every bite! I can't leave without having a taste of their burrata, but some honorable mentions are also the salmon with cous-cous and every one of their side orders. And then the tomato soup, ah the tomato soup. I wish I was having it right now. I this this place is ideal for large parties but I have enjoyed also going there for a dinner date with my husband. Another cool factoid is that they keep refreshing the look of the place by bringing in different local artists and displaying their work, and each time the artist changes it really gives the place an overall new without losing the identity of the place. I can't say it enough. I HEART UPPER WEST!

I can't even begin to describe just how awesome this place is! I love coming here with my friends for dinner or just drinks at the bar any night of the week. The atmosphere is lively, yet not too loud, and the staff is warm and friendly. The menu offers a variety of options to suit anyone's tastes. Must try the SPICED TUNA LOIN, which comes on a bed of mushroom quinoa and corn salad. Then, after that healthy dinner, I sometimes splurge on the most delicious BRIOCHE BREAD PUDDING I've ever had (and I'm normally a chocolate lover)! There is a nice selection of beer, wine and liquor and the signature cocktails are pretty good, especially the LYCHEE MARTINI. You can valet your car for $6 or just find street parking, which is usually available. Upper West is a great choice for any occasion - a date, business dinner, late night drinks with friends, happy hour, etc. Just go and try it for yourself. You'll be happy you did!

What a beautiful restaurant with amazing food! We started off with the Braised Lamb Crepes, which were phenomenal--the raisins and curry sauce were really yummy. For mains, the Miso Glazed Duck & Apple Meatballs was delicious! Yes, it comes with ramen, and yes, it makes the dish that much more awesome. Two of my colleagues ordered the Lobster Gnocchi, and I definitely ate as many bites of that as they would let me--it's a must. For sides, we got two orders of the Roasted Sweet Corn with Avocado Butter & Cotija Cheese. Let's just say... we should've made it three. ^.~ To finish up the evening, we got the Carrot Cake Ice Cream Sandwich as well as the Brioche Bread Pudding. Beautifully served & scrumptious! Fantastic restaurant in Santa Monica, an excellent atmosphere with a high-end gastronomic offer. Highly recommend the pizza with truffle or the grilled avocado salad. As for the main dishes, the salmon with couscous, the ribs with pesto and the kurobuta pork with a touch of truffle 👌 👌 I was also surprised by the margarita cocktail that was quite balanced. A summary a site that you should not miss

The best meal I've ever had! Amazing food!! Everything is served insanely delicious and plentiful! In addition, the staff was amazing! He took care of us, laughed with us and gave us a VIP feeling!! Great food! Lots of very interesting dishes. I note, in particular, ribs, tortellini, carpaccio and steak. An additional plus is the lively, cheerful, slightly noisy atmosphere. The waiters joke a lot and along the way give practical recommendations. In general, I highly recommend.

This is a small and very nice restaurant on the main road that leads to santa monica beach, I recommend it as the atmosphere is very nice, the service is great and the quality of the food is very accurate and certainly above average of the American standard, if you are in the area it is not worth stopping by.
