Reviews of The Root Cafe

We stopped at this lovely, eccentric cafe for my birthday meal today. The overall appearance was full of whimsical energy. The staff was delightful and we enjoyed our interaction with them and also experiencing their banter as they worked.
We sampled the sweet potato curry soup. The perfect start to a meal on a rainy day!
Some hand cut sweet potato fries were next. They were delicious and very well cooked. My wife had the curry chicken salad sandwich with salad, I had the brat (state fair style) also with a salad.
We didn’t even have scraps left by the end of our meal. The flavor profile was a well balanced palette of savory and spice, leaning on local produce throughout: the buns baked locally, meats from named farms, greens and veg from local suppliers, even the honey being from a named local apiary.
We finished up with a carrot cake and a cookie. Both were a delightful end to a meal that left us stuffed, satisfied, and definitely coming back to try more of this colorful menu!

What a wonderful place with such a variety of food! Alright my thoughts.
1. I liked how there was a variety of seating but when it's 106 out, the indoor seating was limited but it still was out of the heat which was nice.
2. I tried a lot of their food and all of it was great. The true stars were the pimento cheese burger and the cornbread.
3. I only have one small point and it's with the sweet potato fries. I don't know if I would call them fries, because that usually indicates that they are fried. These were more like roasted steak fries. They still tasted great and the sauce was lovely. I just expected something different.
An opinion for the restaurant. The salad dressing was great but honestly the burger didn't need it. I would have been happy with a small portion of fries instead. They also had a great selection of treats and local items as well. I would recommend this place highly.

This was cool little spot. The decor was neat, the idea is great and everything seemed really well put together. I will however have to say that I wasn't thrilled with the food as much as it's praised. I will not knock this trip as the service was quick, the food was just as it's described but something was just off with both the grilled cheese and the burger with pepper jack cheese. We will certainly go again, try something different and see if we can't pick something better or have them make it a little better but for now, I give them a 5 on overall astetics, location and variety and a 4 on food.

Looking for a local food in Little Rock, here is your place. Everything is just perfect. Friendly servers, cozy atmosphere, food is above and beyond. We ordered tofu sandwiches, curry chicken salad salad and kid ham cheese sandwich. Tofu is crispy and enough flavor for the burger. Curry chicken is different but tasty.
I would come back here next time if visit this town again.

The root cafe exceeded my expectations. When I first walked in the eclectic and vintage vibe hit in my feels. Definitely coming back to sit on the patio next time. Not only was the ambiance 5 star but so was the food. It was fresh and was served with generous portion sizes. I ordered the curry chicken salad sandwich and my friend ordered the spicy tofu sandwich.

First, the food was really good. I got the pimento cheese burger and the wife the chicken salad sandwich. Our daughters got a cheeseburger and fries.
The service was fine and the atmosphere was good. However, it was a hot June day and the restaurant was very warm inside.
Plan to spend $20 per person if you go, even for lunch.

The root Cafe was very busy when I came at noon, but I was greeted with a smile and waited patiently for a table. So glad I did. Organic local ground coffee or lavender, mint or ginger teas, small farm to table resourced, gluten/ allergy free, vegan options, huge portions, eclectic funky Soma District gem, covered outside porch or courtyard dining is pet friendly. Five stars for cleanliness too. Pimento Burger was quite tasty as were the half and half fries which everyone is raving about. Small parking lot but street parking nearby. I want to visit the Purse Museum and will stop by again soon. So glad this place is thriving.

Beautiful spot. The outdoor sitting area is amazing. You have a few places to choose from. I order a mimosas which is beyond tasty, the pimento cheeseburger was a perfect blend of spicy and juicy. This place also seems to be dog friendly. Also got a side salad and their dressing is so tasty! Would recommend coming to this place!

A really fun restaurant with a unique atmosphere. It's great that they get locally-sourced ingredients, and makes the slightly higher prices worth it. I had the Hotmaker, which I would definitely get again, and the sweet potato fries were the favorite thing we got. I'd like to know what goes into the sauce that came with the fries!

Went here while visiting Little Rock this weekend. Highly recommended and did not disappoint.
Got a Pimento Cheeseburger, a grilled ham and cheddar, large half and half fries, and a kids grilled cheese. Everything was great. My cheeseburger was delightful. The sweet potato fries were thicc boys. I really liked the dressing on the side salad too.
Prices were a smidge on the expensive side but you could tell why based on the quality. Food came out super quick too which was a pleasant surprise.
Next time I visit I will likely go back

Nice place serving locally sourced foods and sells some of their own products. My wife had the cheese burger and said that it was excellent! I had the old world brat, but I found it lacking. The brat was dry and had no juice at all and had no bratwurst flavor to it. By bratwurst flavor I am referring to the combination of mace, ground caraway, cardamom, marjoram, and ground coriander that makes brats taste the way they do. The dishes were served with an impressive salad consisting of a nice blend of different greens and the house made vinaigrette had a wonderful herbaceous flavor. Maybe it was just an off day for brats, I would be willing to try one again when I'm in the area. All in all it's a nice place to eat and the service was good.
alex
So glad we stopped at this charming cafe! The quirky decor and eclectic atmosphere is great. Their eggplant fries and vegan tofu banh mi were delicious, as was the spicy vegan gluten-free brownie!
beyondprofanity
A unique bohemian spot in Little Rock. The services are on point and the menu is very satisfying. The drinks are solid I tried the bloody mary. Although a somewhat crowded spot on a Saturday with a long wait. However the experience is totally worth it and definitely became a staple on a recent trip here.
The property is interesting and the furniture is definitely a home run. With handicap ♿️ parking and one surface over the area. I highly recommend this establishment for all people. Overall the experience was welcoming and made me feel comfortable.
Tonga Newsome
Such a cool little spot! The food was amazing. The vegan pancakes are a must! The tofu scramble was different from what we expected but very good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely will visit again the next time we are in Little Rock.

Be ready to wait in line because it's worth the wait. Fresh local ingredients, quirky but cozy market feel, and great service. (Kim is the best!) Dogs welcome.
Hungry Sparrow
Nice local organic food with a lot of outdoor seating on a sunny day in a beautiful environment. Everything is locally sourced they even have cards as your table number that tell you about the local farmers. Drinks are even organic they offer a ginger honey lemonade. They're there half and half basket of fries is amazing sweet potato fries and regular fries season to perfection. Fresh beef, it tasted like the cows were vegan (not sure). I feel like this is a local spot as regulars were walking in I could over here somebody saying "I want the same thing I had yesterday." I understand why they came two days in a row the food's great. It's Nice little stop and a nice little town.

Tried this one because of yelp and guy fiera’s diners showing featuring the restaurant in 2018. It’s super cute with mostly outside dining options. Eclectic is the best word to describe this place. From the atmosphere, people and food. I had the ham and cheese and it was very good. All came with a very fresh side salad. Husband had the hot maker burger and he was sweating a bit because of the fresh jalapeños. I also added the half and half sweet potato fries and regular fries. By far my fave thing was the ranch. I think it was the dill that was so fresh! Recommend this place for a nice date night or beautiful night under the stars.

This farm to table cafe was well worth the stop for lunch in Little Rock on our way home from Gatlinburg.
A little on the pricey side for lunch imho - plan to spend around $18-$20/pp.
Food was fresh and tasty! I ordered the curry chicken salad sammie, the kid’s ordered cheeseburgers, and the hubby also a burger. Fries were seasoned and cooked well. Side salad has a delicious and tangy dressing.
Indoor and outdoor seating. I believe it was pet friendly outdoors.
The veggie mural wall was cute and offered fun photo ops!
Cashier and waitstaff were friendly and attentive. Overall, a super positive dining experience!

A must try place in Little Rock.
Ambience - This is the place where you can get delicious breakfast. This place got good parking lot in front of the restaurant. It has out door seating.
food - Foos was really good.
Service - service was also great.
Joy Gray
Overall good experience. Very good biscuits and gravy, skip the pancakes, they're kind of bland. My friends enjoyed the eggs Benedict and they have locally sourced good and a cool laid back atmosphere.

We ate here when we were in town for a concert yesterday. The food was delicious with lots of vegetarian options. We tried the shiitake burger and a regular cheeseburger. Both were packed with flavor. The fries were crispy, salty, and wonderful! The lady at counter was super friendly. We sat on the patio since it was a beautiful day and it was so nice! I love that they source so much of their food and beverages locally. Bonus: It is pet friendly so you can stop in for a quick bite while you are out walking your pupper. Highly recommend and we will be eating there again next time we are in town
Whitney Litzsey
I've ate here several times & the last couple of times kt was subpar. I ordered pancakes with blueberries to jazz them up a little & they were not great. From the texture to the taste. I took a couple of bites & went about my day. 3 stars because I really like their house potatoes, when they serve them, which they didn't have that day.

What a lovely gem we stumbled upon driving through Arkansas! My husband and I are victims of the holiday airlines 2022 meltdown and had to end up in a rental driving from Dallas to TN and I have to say…this LGBTQIA+ friendly diner was a unexpected pleasant additive to our journey back home! 🫶🏻 From the locally sourced ingredients to the innovation of the dishes (my chicken curry salad sandwich was to die for!) was impeccable! Also, super economic and great value! 10/10 recommend and will be returning!
Arkansas Insider
Classic local eatery with local farm fresh ingredients. Try the vegan Bahn Mi if there for breakfast! New developments all around as this section of Little Rock starts to gentrify. Keep sourcing local products! #arkansasinsider

Been here a handful of times over the past few years. As the building has changed, the food and friendly staff have been consistently great. Also, the chairs have little yarn boots.. I thought that was cute. Highly recommend.
Dorian Sims
I forgot to take a picture of the entire burger but you get the idea, from the picture, just how amazing this Pimento Cheese Burger was!!
The Root has a beautiful atmosphere and phenomenal food. They also have dog friendly outdoor seating.
Paulina Tran
I didn’t hate myself after eating this food. It was so fresh, tasty, and not overly heavy. I was super hungry, so I ordered the omelette and a pancake. The omelette comes with a nice spinach salad. The cafe is counter service. The customer service was great! They do a great job with cleaning too!
Tricia Bean
This is a cute spot with a beautiful garden-like atmosphere in SoMa. I have been here a few times. I enjoy their spicy banh mi. I love that they serve some natural wine which is VERY difficult to find in Little Rock. They serve tasty cocktails and craft beer. They are one of the few places in the area with consistent hours to include Sunday evenings when most places are closed: Tuesday - Sunday 8 am - 8 pm. They offer a range of dishes, appealing to a cross-section of diners from vegans to meat eaters. There is something here for everyone. My most recent visit was for drinks on a beautiful Sunday evening on their patio. They were out of the wine I ordered but I didn’t know until they came to my table to deliver our drinks. Without being asked, my server graciously offered me another wine or cocktail of my choice to avoid the inconvenience of paying the difference or furthering my wait. Super customer service. I have attended some events here as well. This is a beautiful venue to host a shower or birthday party.

If you are ever in the Little Rock area this is the place to eat. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is quaint. And definitely get the honey ginger lemonade.
Sara Noll
My daughter and I stumbled onto this neighborhood gem - such a fun, eclectic vibe! Talk about amazing service, and the food was incredible (Biscuits and Gravy rivaled my grandma’s, and the organic fruit and yogurt parfaits was the perfect ending with our Iced Cold Brew Coffees)…two thumbs WAY up!
Melanie Bartholomew
Everything was delicious here. I had the ginger lemonade and it was great. I also had the yogurt parfait and the honey and the jam really hit the spot. My friend had an omlet with salad and it was delicious. So many "the best part was" things to say! The self-serve coffee and water in real mugs/glasses was great; and I felt relief in the fact that many, if not most, of the staff were still masked! The patio was comfortable no matter which spot you selected! I would certainly stop by here again!

First time eating at The Root Cafe. I like that they have a decent selection of different types of food. I also appreciate that they use as many local ingredients that they can. The ham and cheese sandwich was pretty good. I’m not a fan of mixed greens for salad but I didn’t mind the salad they offered and the salad dressing was good and different than your typical salad dressing. I would want to go back and try breakfast and dinner sometime.

10/10 dank tofu bahn mi sandwich. Love the decor and general vibes, great service and nice staff too. Will definitely be back if in the area.
Kamran Sahrakar
Unique menu items in a down-to-earth atmosphere. The staff are 3 standard deviations above the rest. My Chapman burger was a spectacular blend of ham, beef, cheese with a spicy sauce. The greens were a fresh, crispy combination of leaves and shredded veggies. The sweet potato fries were baked and came with a hot dipping sauce. The iced tea flavor was mild and delicious served in mason jars. Sitting outside on a balmy evening was the perfect place to enjoy it all. Truly a 5-star experience.
Shannon RR
We ordered a smorgasbord and everything was delicious. Had the cheeseburger, meatloaf and bon mi... all amazing. Everything comes with a salad and the dressing is so dang good that we bought a bottle to take home.
Stiff drinks, unreal homemade food. This place is a must!!
PS: Dog friendly to boot!
Angie Phillips
Everything was very cozy! Such unique delicious flavors from everything we ordered. We ordered a brat, a burger, salads, fries, fresh cookie, and bread pudding. Great value! Loved the environment here. Went here 36 weeks pregnant and raining and I would have the same experience again. Very relaxing you will not be disappointed.

I am here from CT to run the Little Rock Marathon. So lovely to fine this place with a wide variety of tasty vegan and vegetarian options. I had the crispy fried tofu dinner. So yummy! Staff was kind and friendly.
Zachary Van Stanley
Absolutely delicious vegan options! Everything was wonderful, and the outdoor seating was very nice.

The beef used in the burgers is delicious. I also love the seasoning for the fries. It’s a little pricey but definitely worth it if you are willing to pay.

I stood in line for what seemed like 30 minutes. Once I got to the door the anti gun sticker turned me off but 5 stars were eventually warranted. I'm not going to argue with free the nipple hippies and the food was great
Caitlin Henthorne
Love this place! It has a cool vibe, friendly staff, and delicious food!! Muscadine wine jelly was an added bonus! Cute little patio areas too.
Bennie Crowder
We were in Little Rock Saturday 10/15/22 and we stopped in to have Lunch at the Root Cafe. We liked that it was near downtown and that they also get their food from local farms and farmers. The menu had great options - We had the Hotmaker burger - Half & Half Fries (sweet potato and regular) - Daughter had a grilled cheese and fruit. My wife had a cup of the sweet potato curry soup and she said it was excellent. The food was great.
The only issue we had was the language. We had our 6 year old daughter and multiple tables had people dropping F bombs.
Other than that I highly recommend this restaurant.
Nicole Adams
The Hot Chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad are divine. I'm definitely returning when we go back to Little Rock. My husband can't get enough of the burger and sweet potato fries!
mercury
This place was great! Got a regular hamburger and an order of fries. The hamburger was AMAZING, very juicy and pretty big. It came with a salad, which I didn't expect to like, but the dressing was delicious, I need to know what it is. The fries were very good and salty. I love the aesthetic of this place and love the equality. So glad I decided to come here!!
Matt Sharp
Absolutely amazing! Fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place. I had organic iced tea and the curried chicken salad
Allen Barton
Great food. Love their sauerkraut! Self serve kind of???... Took awhile to get food and we were there before lunch rush, 11:30. They brought food out one order at a time over several minutes. Only one person seemed to be really aware of customers.
Robyn
Absolutely delicious lunch with stellar vegan options. Everything was fresh and seasoned well, with very generous portions served. Spent $40 for two people, which is pricey but to me is worth it for the incredible food, friendly people and quirky environment.
Marty terrebonne
The food was surprisingly good. I selected this place because I knew it was somewhere that my stepmother would like since most of their dishes had a lot of greens available. I've never considered putting pickled carrot on top of my edge, the sauce that came with the eggs and carrots really made it a cohesive dish. The arugula was also a nice touch.
I would certainly go here again to see what else I might like.
Meghan Reed
The Root is my favorite restaurant in Little Rock! You won't find another place like it. Quality local food and inventive spins on classics. Everything on the menu is delicious. It is a must visit! Fantastic options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten free people.
Krystina Bowen
Super cute little place. The cold brew coffee was amazing. Fresh lemonade too. We got the omelettes and blueberry pancakes and everything was so flavorful and fresh, cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend and would go again if we pass through here again.

I planned a trip to Arkansas from Florida based around the Root Cafe. I discovered it by doing searches online for restaurants that use local Ingredients, organic, handcrafted.... Things like that. My search led me to this cafe and I was excited to try it and began planning a trip. A month later I made the 16 hour trek with my dogs and we arrived... On a Monday... Which they are closed on. That was my mistake, I should have double checked the hours of operation. I spent the day doing other things in anticipation of the Root opening the next day.
I got up early and drove 2 hours from my hotel to grab breakfast here. As a root beer connoisseur, I was eager to try the root beer here. I couldn't... They said they didn't get their shipment in. This was the biggest bummer for me as it was the number one thing on my must-get list from here. I settled for a Shirley drink but was told they didn't have everything for it. It seemed as of all my wants were being shot down. I gave the lavender cream soda a try and it was actually delicious. I recommend anyone who enjoys lavender to order one. It actually reminded me of a root beer float. It was creamy, but not thick, foamy but not too much and had a flavor that was not overpowering.
I ordered the eggs, and biscuits and gravy for one meal and the eggs, toast and sausage for the rest of my group. We both got scrambled eggs and they were unbearable to eat after the first bite. They tasted like a cup of salt. I couldn't even finish them after that bite. It was tongue curling. The biscuit was a basic biscuit taste.. nothing special but nothing too bad. It didn't taste fake or processed, it tasted like flour and water so that was good for the concept of minimal ingredients. The sausage had potential to be good, but tasted like pork covered in dirt. Perhaps there's an herb being used here that I'm not used to, but it was not tasty. The gravy was too runny and had a film of oil sitting on top.
The service was lovely, everyone was so kind, sweet and helpful. Five stars for service.
The atmosphere was spot on. It felt like a welcoming place and it was quaint. It was cute, gave the feel of a place that uses local ingredients and works to improve the community. I would hang out here just to hang out, solely for the atmosphere and the workers.
Five stars for atmosphere.
I have to give a 3 star rating because the food was just gross. My girlfriend is the one who is a picky eater and seeks out places like this, so to hear her not like it wasn't alarming... But when I didn't like it, and I am not picky at all and will eat anything, that was surprising for me.
The cost is typical to what you would expect to pay for a place like this. Spent $35 on 2 people to basically only consume the lavender drink. It was a shame, but you never know until you try somewhere.
Really wanted to give this place a 5 star review but due to the poor tasting food, lack of root beer, and the Shirley drink being unavailable, it just left a bad taste in my mouth.... Literally.

Best lunch/dinner in Little Rock. Super friendly staff and welcoming environment. Best part is THE FOOD. Had the pimento burger and one of the tastiest burgers ever. Sweet potato fries are fresh and soooo good. Good portion as well. Will come back when in town!

They have one of the best cornbread I've ever tasted. The sad thing is they only serve it during dinner. I love the concept of their food ingredients being sourced locally, so that's a plus. Just wish that they serve their famous cornbread all throughout the day though.
Miles Land Care
This was one of our stops along our road trip from Texas to South Carolina. We chose this as part of our DDD feasting plan and boy are we impressed!! We had the meatloaf, devil’s egg sandwich and the state fair bratwurst. Everything was locally sourced and so fresh. As for the cornbread…WHOLLY COW was that delicious!! Very friendly staff and reasonably priced. DEFINITELY recommend this place!!
Tonya B.E.
My husband and I ate here for the first time today and we loved the food!!! Such a cute little busy place for lunch. We had the Shitaki Burger with vegan mayonnaise and a side order of delicious sweet potato fries!!! The staff was full of energy and very delightful! Will for sure be back

The new addition is very comfortable. The food is local, natural and great! I have now had breakfast, lunch and dinner here at various times. The folks here are helpful and enthusiastic. They have plenty of seating in and outside. Give this place a try!
Adelaide
I love the butter milk pancakes! So fluffy and filling! The orange juice is pretty awesome as well. The place just feels comfortable and cozy. But be warned in the summer we had to wait 45 minutes in line just to order. It is a bit pricey.

A yummy surprise after visiting the Purse Museum next door. Arrived at noon so understandably there was a wait, they did tell us and we still order and then sat in the sunshine. Egg salad sandwich was delish as was the Banh Me sandwich. Along with the half and half fries to top it off. Huge proportions. Cold brewed coffee and ice tea were excellent. Very friendly sweet place

This is my go-to restaurant when I am in Little Rock.Real food, well prepared. Lots of vegetarian options.

What a great little find on our way home to Texas from Tennessee. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was eccentric and fun. The mint lemonade was awesome. The service was top notch and the food was GREAT! I highly recommend this place.

This place was excellent. My food took a little while, but was well worth the wait. I love the look of the restaurant and the unlimited tea or coffee. Looking forward to a return visit.

First visit last week for lunch. Very charming place. Love to support local. Had the chicken salad and it was really good. Also, we enjoyed the half and half fries.

This place never disappoints. We've been coming here for years. We moved to Dallas, Tx, however we still make the trip to eat here. The staff is always friendly. The food is always fresh & delicious. I wish they would expand to Texas😀 …
Rob Wolfe
Shockingly good. Was just passing through from New Hampshire to Austin and this turned out to be one of the 4 or 5 best meals I've had this year. I never expected shiitake mushrooms could supplant butter-sautéed morels or black trumpets as "best mushrooms I've ever had". The honey ginger lemonade also knocked it out of the park.
Jessica Mauerhan
Absolutely delicious food - passing thru Little Rock on a road trip, so I got the PBT and the Bahn Mi because I couldn't decide and I just ate half of each, saved the rest for later. The half and half fries are great too - though the sweet potato ones were a bit too thick and got soggy, but the spicy mayo with them is perfect.
My husband got the egg salad sandwich and said it would be better on the baguette my sandwiches came on, so if you order that sandwich change the bread to the baguette.
Tina Boothe
Found this place just on a search while driving through from Chicago. What a gem! Great service and excellent service. Great options for vegetarians and vegan. My husband said the beef on hamburger the best he had ever had. Definitely fine here again!
Ramninder Nagra
Great atmosphere. Veggie omelette was good with a lot of greens as side. No bread though. Some vegan options are there like Tofu scramble, Tofy Banh Mi. They make Vegan pancakes on weekends only as told by the server.
Karla Gabriel
Service was great, the sweet host guided me through their menu, and food was delicious! You have to try this place !!
Tatum Monroe
Breakfast here was fresh, hot, and delicious! We enjoyed our coffee and our dog enjoyed the heated patio. Hopefully, we will be back to try more of their menu soon.
Jessica Henry
Amazing locally sourced farm to table restaurant. They care about the environment and their community and it shows through their business practices. Many vegan and vegetarian options are available. Also, check out their house made dressing or candied pecans to take home.

The Root Cafe is a fun little restaurant serving a solid menu of comfort foods and one or more specialty dishes and salads. They also have a few vegan and gluten-free items to choose from. When the weather is nice you can make use of their beautiful outside garden. I had one of their homemade brats which I found to be delicious. Overall I would come back.

Oh this is a must visit place when in Little Rock, AK. Christina was super awesome and very helpful. The food was amazing, hot and quick. Best thing is they served pretty much everything local. Their omelet is off the hook. The pancakes are super fluffy and butter is lile you never had anywhere. Place is pretty busy so get early for breakfast. They are taking all the necessary precautions for covid. The parking is limited thats the only downside. They also sell the local products as well...
A must visit place.

Saw this featured on Diner Drive-ins and Dives a couple years ago and it's been on my list since. Great menu and colorful, kitschy decor. The food was great and the service was quick. My only reason for 4 stars is some of the staff was not on their best behavior. They seemed to be mad at each other and it showed in their interactions. We found a table right next to the kitchen so it was obvious there was some friction there. But overall, definitely worth a visit when in Little Rock. Its popular with locals and tourists and with good reason.
andi nicpon
I've been here a few times and every time it's been amazing. They source as much of their ingredients from local farms as possible and you can really taste the freshness. Sunday brunch you will have to wait for sure but that's because the place is so amazing. They have a special that they rotate through and if you don't get there early they will sell out. One of such specials, chicken and waffles, is the best I've ever had. This most recent time I split a main menu item: the ham, egg and cheese biscuit and it is incredible. We had a side of bacon and a single pancake. The Wisconsin syrup is phenomenal, just wow. We had a mimosa each with fresh squeezed orange juice. I would recommend and will be back.

I came from Tulsa, OK to try several vegan optional restaurants while in town to visit family. I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere of patio areas where guests set, the service team was amazing after we managed to deal with my medical exemption for not wearing a mask and the tofu scrambled and greens sald with the divine dressing was steller! I will be back before leaving town in a few weeks... so so incredibly good!
C Hall
I found the food here to be meh. I chose the curry chicken salad sandwich and the bread pudding. The sandwich was ok, I think a different bread choice would have made it better. The bread pudding had a lot of undissolved sugar, making it sugar crunchy. I wouldn't order the bread pudding a second time. The staff were very nice. The atmosphere is cozy

Excellent eatery. Love the local food!! Mushroom omelette in picture (my husband’s dish)....also their breakfast sandwiches covered in gravy are THE BEST.

Good place for a quick bite when you are drinking that far. Dog friendly :)

With its outdoor seating, eclectic interior, and tasty food, people have reported it's like eating at their grandma's. I wouldn't know, b/c I don't have one. Can say its lovely having fresh made to order breakfast compared to brand restaurants...also a plus that ingredients are local. Despite a lot of people on Easter Sunday, got food in a decent amount of time. Would love to check out their lunch and dinner.
Daniel Park
The burger was good. Chill atmosphere and good service.
Mike Frame
Good food and drinks. I liked the ginger lemonade and the burger with jam. Mixed fries are the way to go. I love how fresh everything was
Chris Mitchell
The burgers where average and way over priced everything was high in price on menu I could not tell a difference in thear fresh ground beef than any restaurants that buy fresh ground beef I can buy a jumbo double cheese burger and fries hear in Camden for $10 not $ 19 at root that taste as good or better. This is my opinion if you want to pay $14,50 for a burger help urself.
Joshua Harris
This place is fantastic! The staff are so friendly and helpful. They are very considerate of health allergies and dietary needs. There are pretty yummy vegan and GF options. The food is locally sourced from farms and they grow some of their own herbs and spices fresh.
The atmosphere is fun and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The Pork Carnitas are delicious and their fries are real potatoes cut in house. Make sure to check their hours before going and in case you are wondering, they don't do reservations but it's worth the wait on a busy day! I'll definitely go back. 👍👍
Tim Claybaugh
Wonderful place to meet for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Everything we got on menu was good! It had good seating options and was a nice place to have conversations, and wasn't too loud.
Christine Keller
A place to get real food only 4 miles off I-40! Organic local vegetables and local grassfed beef. What's not to like? Everything was delicious! Service was very friendly.
Definitely a casual, no-frills dining room, but eating organic whole foods is my number one concern when trying to find a place to eat. I thought the prices were reasonable ($13 for a grassfed burger and salad plate with all the fixins). Highly recommend for foodies!
RenVArt
The root cafe aquires their ingredients from local sources, and you can definitely tell by how delicious it tastes! I had the egg sausage and cheese biscuit with a blueberry muffin and bacon. The food has a homecooked at Grandma's house look and taste and the atmosphere is inviting. Everyone there was very nice, I will be going back to try lunch sometime!
Crystal Green-Braswell
Every experience has been a great experience! I love the plant-based options. The smoked mushroom dinner is my absolute favorite! It is a must have!
jeje43
Another cool grungy earthy Akansas own breakfast/lunch/dinner joint. Tasty breakfast... and delicious pastries. Very cool unique and eclectic atmosphere. All locally grown ingredients.
update:
I like this place and today the Root cafe brought their deliciousness in to the TSA Employees who just went the longest government shutdown ever.
The Root Cafe's generosity is overwhelming. Thank you so much. The Officers were so so grateful for their generosity.
Truly a great community here in Little Rock.
Samantha Jené
Ordered the pulled pork, which was delicious, but the real star was the cornbread. Atmosphere is fun and quirky, with an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients.
Brandy Boyd
This was recommended to us by a local and couldn't have been more perfect (thank you Talia at Dugan's!!) The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great and the staff was so friendly. The local, fresh ingredients were wonderful and the portion sizes were just right. (I hate wasting food- so reasonable portions are much preferred!)
I definitely will return next time I'm in Little Rock. Their lunch and dinner menus looked well worth the trip!

Went on a Saturday night with a small group, no reservation needed. Really cool decor and atmosphere. Service was very good. Extensive cocktail list; tried the French 75 and the sazerac, both were very good. I would probably give the food a 3.5. We split the gnocchi special for an appetizer. It was amazing, definitely the best dish of the meal. For mains, the chicken and dumplings and the spicy fried chicken w/ mac and cheese. The waitress let us know that the chicken and dumplings were not traditional. While it tasted very good, it definitely lacked dumplings that I'm used to. The berbere-spiced chicken was good, the mac and cheese was very good. But the portion for the mac and cheese was really small. We shared the buttermilk pie and the bread pudding for dessert. The buttermilk pie was great, I wasnt a fan of the bread pudding as I found it dry, but others I was with liked it. Will definitely try it again.
Ericka Sims-Hall
Get the sides! I had their Mac and cheese side and I wish I would have ordered 5 of them. They are tiny, so the restaurant has a deal 4 for 15 bucks. I would pick 2 Mac and cheese and 2 cornbread. The cornbread was sweeter and served warm. My old world brat was good, but that Mac and cheese really stole the show. They have outdoor seating and you can use their restroom.
Derek Cook
I love farm-to-table so must've marked this restaurant from DDD or some show since I love a day's drive away. The shitake entree was amazing, but I couldn't blame my children for not wanting to eat their grilled cheese or cheeseburger. The playground certainly helped make the evening enjoyable, but the lackluster taste and proximity of the dumpster to the patio really put a damper on what I hoped would be a great occasion.
Gwendolynn Combs
Root Cafe features delicious farm-to-table food with plentiful vegetarian and vegan options. We appreciate that they've stuck to citbside pickup during the pandemic to keep both customers and employees safe. Don't miss the bread pudding; it's to die for!
Kathryn Anderson
This eatery was recommended by a local and she did not steer me wrong. This place is not only quaint and adorable, with its outdoor space that resembles your own backyard, but the food is delicious. My only complaint is the wait for my food was unusually long and I was not warned that it would take over 30 mins. If you’re in a hurry, be sure to ask how long the wait will be, otherwise simply enjoy your handcrafted cocktail on their quirky patio while you wait. My Egg Salad Sandwich and Greyhound Fizz were great. Highly recommend if you’re in Little Rock!
Diana Maria
Egg sandwich was so good. Great cocktails too. Patio is a perfect place to just chill and enjoy the day. Great and friendly service
Kim Carter
I will admit that I haven’t always gone with the crowd on loving The Root Cafe. Now, in all fairness, I’ve only visited twice. Once was breakfast and I had fruit and yogurt. The second time was a late lunch, and I had the brat. It was fine, just not enough to crown my favorite restaurant in Little Rock. So many people I know swear it’s their favorite go-to LR establishment, but I’ve just never loved it, until... THE PIMENTO BURGER!
I had it three times in one week, that’s how incredible it is. I highly suggest you make your way over and try this delectable goodness.
Im going to work my way through to see if I find something else on the menu to sway me to “favorite.” But until then, the pimento burger is a very strong case!
Jared Winchester
This eclectic neighborhood cafe offers something for everyone. They offer 100% locally sourced dishes with vegetarian and vegan friendly options on a rotating menu. Outside puppy dog friendly seating available. If u are in a rush there is also a walk up take out window! Highly recommend the vegetarian banh mi!
Erin Hebert
Awesome food! Close to the interstate, and it was a great place to relax for minute before getting back on the road. We got the Ham and Cheese on Gluten free bread for me and hubs got the pimento burger. All delicious! Keep it up!
jon gerusa
This place has a very homey feel to it even though its smack center of downtown. The service was great, I specifically liked how I got to interact with about 3 different employees who were all personable and willing to give me a good experience. The recommendations were on point with the in house made mango tea and cheeseburger. I had a pea soup that was awesome and the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly.
Ravi Hriday
I felt this place to be highly overrated. My food was extremely greasy and the oils were dripping of out of my fried tomatoes. The customer service was amazing.
If you’re visiting here during the weekends, be prepared for the crowd and long wait time.
Camie Wood
From the moment I walked in until the moment I left I had the best service! The chef was amazing, the plating beautiful, the food delicious, and the staff friendly. I could not have asked for a better experience. So glad The Root started serving dinner!! It is a must try!
Michael Maloney
Pros: The brunch was good standard southern home cooking. Everything was fresh and the area was clean. Cons: The food takes time to come out, so go when you are not in a rush. The line to order can also get long during peak hours.
TM
Ate lunch…. It was good.
Nuff said.
Katelyn Cartwright
I came from across town on a cold winter afternoon to find a little serenity outside my home. I ate alone outside in the sunny little garden area (rather than on the also lovely heated patio) and made friends with a sweet bird in the tree while eating the most delicious meal I've had in a long time. The special did not disappoint and neither did the supper sweet people who fed and waited on me. Little slice of heaven!
Keshia Jackson
We enjoyed it so much! The burger with mushrooms was a-mazing! And the staff are so friendly ☺️
R MG
Our group of 5 came for lunch. Employee taking orders had us all order at one time, despite telling him they were separate tickets. So after 5 of us ordered, we had to go back to stand again to pay. Made no sense.
Otherwise, same guy was a great server! Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the grilled cheese and fries.Wow. They were great. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.
Blake Roussel
So my first visit to The Root Cafe was a pleasurable one. We had hit some estate sales in Little Rock and thought it would be a nice spot for a good lunch.
Parking is very limited so be prepared to drive around looking for a spot.
Line was out the door almost which is always a good sign. I ordered the special which was the pimento cheese burger with egg plant fries.
Burger was cooked well and the pimento was very good. You can tell it's made in house. Egg plant fries were different but very good.
Almost forgot the sweet and spicy pickles were amazing! I want that recipe!
Look forward to my next visit.
Lauren Holland
I love the focus on sourcing locally!! I got the vegan shiitake burger and it was SO GOOD. went up on a birthday trip, got some cute pics at the mural. (IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!) Everything was stellar. If I'm back in the area I'd love to go back.
Also to the kind owner/manager/boss fella: I'm the one who lost my wallet on Veteran's Day--someone found it on Arch St and returned it to me! Mystery solved! (We don't know how it got to Arch St, however). I really appreciate how sweet and helpful everyone was while I was absolutely freaking out about it. You're some lovely people. ❤
Chase Nelson
Great place over in Little Rock. I loved the farm to table, complete with the farmers on your place holders. The food was delicious as well.
Leland Adams
Well, what’s not to say. We have only visited a few times, whenever we’re in Little Rock. I’m completely sold on this place, the food is exceptional and the staff so welcoming. But don’t take my word for it, you must experience this for yourself!!!
Cosmic Bunny
Very eclectic vibes customer service was amazing and the food was good. I also had the lavender lemonade and it was THE BEST!
orchi hassan
Nice cafe with outdoor seating, friendly staff, and very fresh-tasty food prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Loved everything about this place.
Natalia Ferreira
Food was delicious and the staff was friendly. The patio seating is covered to block the wind/cold which is nice for a sunny day in the winter. I’d visit again!
Mando
Ooh lordy, this place is a must try. If you're vegan you know most restaurants give you options like a cheese-less salad, or a seasoning free cheese-less Impossible Burger. Both deserving of hands in an alley, so when you find different vegan options you try them and write a long ol' review. I had an iced coffee and two orders of their vegan pancakes (ya boy means business) a few days ago, and my taste buds are still on the mend from the savage flavor thrashing they received. The flavor must've been from the nation of domination, cause these buds didn't stand a single chance. Had them feeling like Ike Turner in the back of that limo after Tina had enough, and ruined his trifling face. They're gonna need time to heal, and a mommy makeover once everythings shifted back into place. Definitely recommend.
Wesley Garnes
Great food. Great drinks. Lots of options. Very local. Lots of small businesses nearby. A very local vibe to it. I'd recommend this place highly for Sunday brunch. Needs better AC or insulation. Service was decent and decently quick.
Reilly Grzywacz
Hands down one of the best vegetarian meals I've ever had! Highly recommend the crispy PBT sandwich. Loved loved loved.
Bill Packer
OMG! deliciousness. Great staff who take careful care of their guests. Outside patio area both covered and uncovered with a section that makes you feel like you are in a garden in the country (instead of in downtown). Yummy!
Adam K
Lovely fresh food, sourced locally. Burgers are succulent and juicy. Their sweet potato fries are divine! It's no wonder there is a queue of people waiting to eat here.
Kim Martin
Great gourmet breakfast and coffee with locally sourced ingredients. Had the omelet and the bahn mi. Both came with a healthy helping of salad greens perfectly paired with grated yellow squash and a scrumptious dressing. We ate in the storage container. Quirky Austin kind of a place. Recommend!
Karl Deeter
Best cornbread I ever had! Said it to the people working there and it turns out their cornbread has won a load of awards. Had gluten free meal, and they were great on that front, pulled pork very good
Jennifer McMahon
The Root Cafe never disappoints! The food is fresh and so delicious!
The Ban Mi with scrambled eggs was so good!
Love Notes for TLC
This is my favorite go-to restaurant that offers mouth-watering vegan entrees! Shiitake burger, vegan brownies, freshly squeezed OJ. What more could a vegan ask for? The tofu scramble is a deliciously healthful breakfast option and the vegan pancakes are absolutely scrumptious! The only thing missing are vegan chocolate chips for those fluffy, flavorful masterpieces! The staff is always friendly and accommodating! Thank you!
(Picture of their Bahn Mi Sandwich)
Amrita Diol
Quaint, eclectic decor. Professional service. Delicious food. I enjoyed the sweet potato curry soup and eggplant fries. Such crisp batter. Delightful. Followed by a chocolate chip cookie. My daughter enjoyed the bahn mi and gluten free spicy brownie. You may have to park on the street, be prepared for a few steps.
Francesco Russo
Delicious dinner. Spicy fried chicken was a very unique flavor. Staff told me it's a north African Curry flavor. Loved it. Have also been here for breakfast. Loved both visits, and they're a few years apart so it's definitely consistent
Nikki A
Outstanding! Had the meatloaf with braised greens. The cornbread is so good! Good on you Little Rock for having a fantastic gay friendly outdoor dining cozy little restaurant! The atmosphere, the food, the staff are all top notch! Run, don't walk!! Highly recommended.
Eric Fernandez
Fantastic little place to grab lunch! It had a very warm and welcoming vibe, like going to a friend's house that's extremely accommodating and wants to always invite the whole neighborhood to eat together!
Matt Nixon
The pimento cheeseburger and sweet potato fries is a great dinner to be had. If you have not been here, you are missing out.
Kameron Allen
This is turning into one of our every weekend stops. Food is great, and our toddler loves sitting outside by the flowers! The pimento burger and half/half fries is what I usually get! My wife gets the gluten free burger!
Alia DeLong
Cute, tasty, locally sourced ingredients. Couldn't ask for much more. I enjoyed visiting this restaurant during my trip to Little Rock. Friendly folks.
Aden Wilson
Great place, a "hippy" vibe but delicious locally sourced food and plenty of vegetarian options! Worth checking out. Reasonable prices, fresh yummy food. Worth it!
Lauren McNeaill
The Root Cafe is an incredible restaurant. I am on a restrictive diet, and it’s the only place in the city where I feel safe to eat. Lovely people. Excellent service. Highly recommend to all.
Joseph Medina
Be prepared for a wait. We visited on a Sunday morning looking for something different for breakfast. We were not disappointed. The Root features a creative menu driven by locally harvested, fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared and hand delivered by a staff of polite individuals with a genuine desire to please. These folks love what they are doing, and it shows. Try the fresh squeezed OJ or a spicy Bloody Mary. Your tastebuds will thank you!
1800HUDSON
Although the location is bad, and the wait time is long, the food is absolutely fantastic! The staff is nice and do a great job on getting fresh, farm to table food out, that will satisfy you.
Dean Ehrenheim
I went to Root Cafe because I saw it on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The food and atmosphere were good. I can't say it was anything really special, but I only had two items, fried green tomatoes and pimento burger. Both were cooked well, but nothing special. However, the relaxed, back-porch atmosphere, clothe napkins, jar glasses all add to a comfortable "grandma's table" atmosphere. The farm to table concept is good. I would go back for the novelty, but not just for the food. It's worth visiting and you can decide for yourself.
Bridgette
Love the locally sourced products, the atmosphere and food here. Food can be a little bland if you're into a lot of seasoning. Overall
Benjamin Shapleigh
Best omelet West of the Mississippi! A real earthy, granola type of place. All that being true, still has an excellent tasty menu including local artisan beer 🍺and cocktails. They also source from local farms/growers for almost all the meats produce coffee etc that they carry. Top marks for The Root …
Jeremy Jones
This is a funky little place that is known for vegetarian options along with locally sourced ingredients. Recently they extended hours for dinner service instead of just lunch. Had the fried tofu Bon Mi and sweet potato fries, both were amazing.
Terry Samuels
Liked it so well, we stopped again on the way back . Food is excellent. Keep in mind, on Sunday , they only serve breakfast till 2 pm.
Michael Lynn
Root was great. Really enjoyed the food. Unique and tasty.
Super chill environment and vibe. Dog treats and great drinks. Really spicy bloody Mary.
april williams
This place is great. Me, my brother and niece all went here on a saturday morning to have breakfast and there was no wait at all. The Root is eccentric and very welcoming. It's also a from scratch restaurant in the soma district. You order at the counter and you're given a number to take to your table. Cold beverages are in a cooler fridge as soon as you walk in the door other beverages are on a table and self serve. Coffee, tea, water. Ice is in a cooler beside the table. Theres indoor and outdoor setting. There is two outdoor patio setting areas which is a plus. I ordered 3 vegan pancakes and WOW is all I have to say. Syrup and butter is served with them. They are so big and filled me up but they're so good. I'll definitely order just one next time. My brother ordered two biscuits served with jelly, 4 strips of bacon, and an omelette. I helped him eat one of his biscuits because we didnt know they were so big. You could say we ordered too much food but we did not care we loved every single bite. My niece got the pancakes as well with 4 strips of bacon and she too got full. On our way out we noticed a line out of the door so we got there at the perfect time. I will for sure go back many more times and try more items on the menu. We took pictures in front of the mural that's on the wall which faces the parking lot and while we sat eating we named all the characters. Haha
Rick Stanley
I love the Root Cafe. The atmosphere, the food, the service; all are amazing. Next time in SOMA district, stop by The Root. You will be glad you did!
Rebecca Stansfield
We had a great time here. The food was delicious and it was a great atmosphere. The one negative about it was that we had to wait but I guess that means the place is just popular.
June Bug
We had never ate here before. And we will for sure being going back. Best Meatloaf and Cornbread we had EVER TASTED.
Mary Gifford
The food was great and the prices weren't bad. I loved the kids menu and the little play area. The bathrooms were VERY clean and even though it was a super hot day, there was plenty of cold water to go around. I recommend the curry chicken salad salad.
Ashton
I love this place! It's like eating in someone's backyard, it's great. Friendly staff, amazing food, really cool drinks, and a very laid back atmosphere. Almost everything they serve comes from local farms. Expect to spend about $20 on a lunch with a drink but it is well worth it for the quality of food.
Lena Halabi
Friendly staff and healthy food at this welcoming spot in Little Rock! I often visit this city for business and I will make it a point to eat here when I can! Had the burger and it was really good.
Mark Galvan
Great patio space with a beautiful redbud tree and very nice to allow dogs. The front staff gentleman was very friendly with excellent customer service and the food hit above the mark. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
Kari Persson
Always top notch food. It's amazing that they source their food from local farms. Quality every time.
Shea Campbell
This restaurant is very unique. Everything is locally sustained. The menu has a variety of different options including gluten free options. The cashier was very knowledgeable friendly and helpful. This is a busy little place in a great part of Little Rock that has a comfortable ambience. I enjoyed it as well as my seven-year-old.
Dana Rozier
I was visiting from Orlando, however I would move to Little Rock just for this restaurant. I felt incredibly safe, SUPER friendly stuff, and the most delicious sandwich I’ve ever had.
Christopher Aponte
This is a unique place for breakfast. The food taste great and the coffee taste good, not yet perfect (I like my average coffee really strong, but that is just me)
Michelle Milam
My family and I love everything about The Root. Fun and unique inside and out. We have tried several different dishes off the menu and everything has been very good. The spicy blueberry jam is one of my favorites. I highly recommend this gem of a place... 😊😊 …
Lucia Ryan
Stopped here on a road trip from austin to NYC. Having a spiritual experience…incredible food, ambiance, and staff. One of the best restaurants I’ve been to and meals I’ve had all year!
Jamiel Senoj Jones
I was impressed with the side salad they serve with almost every dish. It was very refreshing and tasty; the vinaigrette was different for me and I enjoyed it. The sweet potato fries were just okay but you can tell they were made healthily. The Hotmaker burger was kind of disappointing. I would have liked it spicier as advertised, but it wasn't spicy at all and I could not taste the jalapenos. I also decided to try the curry chicken salad salad and it was very good. The mix of apples and carrots with chicken salad is uncanny but it worked and the buttermilk sauce was great and needed to add moisture. The good thing about this place is that they're different and I’m guessing their healthier takes to meals. The food was 7/10 overall because in some aspects with the spice— I felt it was lacking. But maybe one day I’ll get to come back and try the dinner menu. Keep up the great work.
Nikolas Theriot
I like to try local restaurants whenever possible if I am in the area. The burger and fries were good. They put a side salad on the plate with burger. I do not tend to eat salad. You would have to order fries separately along with the burger. This place strives to be environmentally friendly with almost no plastic waste. No paper plate or plastic utensils. They have a glass for drinks. As I recall the straw was only plastic I had used to drink.
Madison Jaques
Such an nice place 10/10 highly recommend. Very AMAZING people. Also their lemonade is the best.
Leluv s
Umm WOW. It’s hard to have a hamburger that’s mind blowing, but WOW. Did The Root Cafe do it! I got the jamn skippy and oh. My. Heavens. It was so stinking good! I loved the atmosphere. It was very dirty hippie and I loved every second of it! I loved the local ingredients they used. Everything was so stinking fresh. You dine outside and there’s plenty of room between tables, so it’s the best of Covid world! There’s also tons of heaters outside, so you don’t have to worry about freezing either!
fernando johnson
It wasn't what we expected. Me and the grandkids noticed this place and decided to give it a try. 2 ordered meatloaf but didn't like it. You get 2 small slices and some kinda arugula salad with no tomato wasn't worth the price. 1 ordered a burger that comes with that same salad no fries. $15 was mostly bread we ordered fries on the side which was really good and heated cornbread was good. This seems to be a place for folks that's into everything organic to explain the prices. Not my kinda place.
L Z
The pancakes are always amazing! I've tried a few things on the menu and they never disappoint. The pastries are delicious. The food is all locally grown and fresh. It's tough to find places like this in Arkansas. They stop serving breakfast at 11am. That was disappointing when we came in at 11:20 am with my father-in-law. The service is hit and miss. It's very casual but the high quality food keeps me coming back despite the small things.
Monica Cassani
Yum food and good service. My husband and I had the same breakfast except mine was made with tofu and his with eggs. Beautifully plated with lots of vibrant colors...we both enjoyed it. Next time I might try the egg version. So many good things on the menu though it might take a while to get back to that.
EK Professionals
Stone peach pancakes were amazing customer service was even better.. pancakes are huge I could only eat one saved the other ones for my son. Call ahead to order... line was super long ...was glad I placed a to go was able to walk right up to register and grab meal!
T. W.
Quaint, Interesting restaurant. Delicious farm to table food, locally sourced food. Very laid back vibe. It felt like eating in someone's home - I loved it. Homemade sausage was soooo good. Good coffee too. Definitely recommended!!
Amber Houghstow
I loved the pride flags and signs; everything made my family feel super comfortable. The staff were very nice. My dads said it was some of the best food they had had in a long time. We picked the place because it was easy to get to from the highway compared to other good restaurants in town, and because there were vegan and gluten free options indicated clearly on the menu. The food did not disappoint wrt allergies; there were plenty of delicious options for people with specific dietary needs, and the staff knew all about the ingredients. You could tell the food was locally grown because the flavor was so fresh. I want to try to recreate the portabella burger somehow and would definitely recommend that menu item.
Michelle McElroy
Had over a 40 minute wait after we ordered. Staff was awesome. They gave us cookies because we waited so long. I had the root Bennie. It was okay. The hollandaise was bland. The atmosphere is good. In my opinion, the food wasn't worth the wait.
Rowan Crowheart
This is just my kind of place. The vibes were fantastic. Theres indoor and outdoor seating and they didn't mind us having our dog outside. They have LGBT+ flags and BLM flags as decorations and a really neat big mural.
The food was also fantastic. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options but the meat eaters in our group were happy with their burgers. I had the Bahn Mi and loved it. The drink selection was also nice. I had a non alcoholic ginger lemonade and would order it again.
Cyndael Thomas
It's a small place and delicious. We had the vegetarian bahn mi and the shiitake burger. Both were delicious. We also had a side of sweet potato fries with garlic sauce. Also delicious. The employees were friendly and the decor was fun. I will definitely be back.
Frank Klein
Food was excellent. Probably the best food for hundreds of miles in any direction near I40. Incredible.
Daniel Evans
Chris, Kate, and Kim were so friendly, and they gave us some pointers on where to spend our day in Little Rock. This place seems to be doing a good job of “building community through local food”, a mission as important as it is challenging. We loved our mimosa, pancakes, and the root Benny.
This is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a drink with a friend.
V
The food is delicious. The prices are a little on the high side but everything is worth it! The menu has grown and they do breakfast now. We had a pimento burger, side salad, and salad with mushrooms instead of feta. The vinagarette dressing is creamy and full of garlic which I love. The pimento cheese was full of flavor and tasted nothing like pimento cheese. The grilled veggies on the salad were so good that there was no need for dressing. Drinks are phenomenal. Sweet potato fries are addicting! I wish I lived closer. Anytime I am in little rock, usually for medical stuff, I stop by here. I would love to see a cookbook!
Lauren Mcnamara
This was a great stop traveling through! Our puppies were welcome to sit in the outside patio area, which was nice. We got the mushroom burger and pulled pork. The grilled veggies were delicious!
Amy Weber
Passing through the area and relied on prior reviews of this place. They did not disappoint! Wait was lengthy as they make everything fresh and it was quite busy for a Sunday morning but I thought it was worth the wait. Plan on stopping by on our way back to try some lunch!
Deric Schnelle
This has now become a MUST stop when in town. Amazing vegan and vegetarian options and the baked goods are a family favorite with the boys.
Kevin Tietz
This place is fantastic. It’s exactly what a breakfast sandwich should be. Their jelly is the best I’ve ever had.
Jeff Priore
SUPER cool eatery in LR south of 630. Great patio, coffee and hamburger. Coulda sat all afternoon. And Liz's PrestonRose Beer!
Shray
Enjoyed my mild fried chicken. My coworker said he really liked his burger. A very hipster place that would be packed and an Instagram place if in a big city. Prices were good.
Ashish Mody
Nice spot for Vegetarian / Vegan sandwiches. Some different coffee options would make it even better.
Rhonda Whitlock
What a gem! We had our Australian friends with us and wanted them to experience local food while driving thru Arkansas. This was a huge hit! I love farm fresh and farm fresh is def what we got. Great stuff and fun, quirky environment. Highly recommend, as does Guy Fieri from DDD!
slim pickins
Fast fresh food.. awesome staff..
Pamela Samson
Amazing find. The staff is wonderful and the food was great!
CAT HI B
I highly recommend this place. Really cute place. I love that they have fresh farm items and a super cool vibe. The fresh squeeze oj was the cherry on top.
Melissa Cisneros
Everyone there is super nice! The food is amazing and fresh! We are from out of town and our second visit was just as great as the first. Will most definitely be back!
Philip Lang
Have you ever had Muscadine jelly? Straight out of Portland. I’m only in town until tomorrow and I wish I’d found this place earlier. Super cool people and great food.
La Rog
I was very pleased with my food until I got ready to eat some salad, there was a black parasite in my salad, I just LOST it and was very upset because I had enjoyed my sandwich and the salad was good after the 3rd bite then I looked down...here go a parasite sitting right on it. This my Last trip to this place. Never again...I will just buy the stuff from Krogers and make my own salad.
Whats so bad is why you have a Cooker in the back with face full of hair, hair all over his eyes and walking around in blue and white pajamas pant....thats unprofessional and not safe.
Christina Osorio
Honestly one of the best places around. If you're tired of chain restaurants and uninspired menus, order here for relief.
Keith Goodale
excellent food and locally-sourced. also, plates, cups, utensils, and napkins are reusable. they really seem to care. portions are generous and all of the food i tried had great flavor. the eggs banh mi were delicious and hit all of the right banh me flavors. the fresh salad greens were great. the gravy on my biscuit and gravy was the best cream gravy i've ever had, period.
Jenna Riley
Food was really good, but if you aren't into spicy food it likely won't be for you.
Aubrey Worley
Great little eatery. Delicious, local food; outstanding drinks, beautiful outdoor seating, and good atmosphere.
DeWayne M
The food was fresh and locally grown. We are new to Arkansas and happen to come across this place by accident. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the wait for the food was very long and i was HUNGRY.
Amos Berry
Tons of gf options and the cornbread is to die for! Loved our experience!
Danniele Holanda
Cozy and delicate atmosphere. Beautiful and delicious food. Don’t forget to order a least a cup soup of the day for consommé.
Arsal Karima
I love this place
Always fresh and delicious
Can’t go wrong with the fact that they are supporting local food to build the community
The burger is delicious and should be paired with their house honey ginger lemonade and sweet potato fries of course
Angela Stockton
We made a pick up order. The food was good, but it took over 5 minutes for someone to help us at the pickup counter and when we got to our hotel we found that there were no napkins or utensils in the bag. It’s hard to eat a salad without a fork.
Jason Julian
The Root is always a great spot to grab a quick bite when I’m downtown.
Steph W
I love, love, love this place. It starts with atmosphere, it's earthy and calm, I feel welcome. The food is good and clean, no guilt in indulging here, you know it's good food, no matter your eating style. It's a restaurant with a conscience and a mission.
Chris K
The food was very good. I'm personally not a big fan of open air dining.
Cynthia Lewis
Always great food and always a great menu. The Shiitake Mushroom Burger with Sweet Potato fries.is my go to favorite. Expect a wait at peak lunchtime....but definitely worth it. If you don't want to wear a mask find somewhere else to eat. I'll be back again and again.
Alicia Austin
Delicious food and friendly staff, strongly recommended the Dennis burger and the bratwurst. The fries, sweet and regular, are fresh and cooked to perfection. The side salad is simple but the flavors blend well together and paired well with each dish we had. Locally sourced ingredients that is worth the visit.
Alvin Chen
Delicious food but tiny portion, only go there for appetizer or dessert
Bonnie Marberry
The hype is real! Delicious, locally-sourced food in a homey, kitschy environment. I had the curry chicken salad salad with creamy dill dressing and a honey ginger lemonade, and both were delicious.
Sarah Maddox
We stopped because of the reviews and were so glad we did! The pumpkin soup and cumin vinaigrette were delicious! My other half loved the sweet potato fries and dipping sauce. We stopped in on our way from New Orleans to Kansas City and are looking forward to coming back on our way home!
Candie Smith
We stop here for breakfast every time we pass through Little Rock and they never disappoint! The food is always so delicious and fresh and the staff warm and friendly. The ambiance is perfect and it’s so nice to sit outside on a crisp and clear morning! Their jelly, gluten free buns and locally sourced sausage are my faves.
Victoria Falcone
Great options for healthy eating. We were grateful to find a place with so many gluten and dairy free options. Loved the pumpkin pie soup
special. Staff was friendly.
Cathy Marak
We are eating WFPB (Whole Food Plant Based) and they had really good selections. We will be back.
L
Quirky spot. Good food. Good coffee. It was very busy on the Sunday morning that I visited the place. This cafe is definitely worth a stop.
Alexis Harris
Cute place. I like the dog patio. I like how homey the restaurant feels. From the stickers on the walls to the fresh flowers on the table. Would recommend.
Sharon Seago
The food was delicious and there is nice outdoor seating. Gluten free bun for burger was good.
Sarah Martino
This place is AMAZING! In a super cute part of town, on site parking, indoor and outdoor seating options, all the good amenities. Add to that amazing food and incredibly kind, genuine people, and it's a ten out of ten. The house dressing is out of this world, and the chocolate chip cookies are delicious!
Kambria Peveler
I ordered a breakfast banh-mi and a parfait. I really didn't expect a breakfast salad although in all fairness when I went back and read the description, that is exactly what it describes. It tasted ok. I would probably order it again because I enjoyed all of the vegetables. It just tasted different compared to an authentic vietnamese banh-mi sandwich. There were no pickled veggies on it. I also would have liked more toasted baguettes. The parfait was a complete let down. There was absolutely no fruit. It was overpoweringly sweet. It had granola, preserves, honey and yogurt...in that order. The description on the menu said that there would be seasonal fruit. All in all, I am still curious to try other dishes and sit outside in the garden or on the patio with friends or family while enjoying the food and environment. The decor and ambiance I would rate a 5.
Kalie Ojala
If I could live here I would. Every item I’ve had on their menu is fantastic and I already can’t wait to come back!
Nick Babineaux
Visiting LittleRock and took the family to the Root Cafe. Best ham and cheeses sandwhiches ever made. The sweet potato fries were pure awesomeness and the lemonade was some of the best I've had in any restaurant. My 23 year old son thought his burger was good but dry.
My wife's sandwich was a little late getting to the table so they gave her a chocolate chip cookie for the wait. She loved it and says she'd go back just for that. I highly recommend the Root Cafe.
Jeff Shelton
Great relaxed at home atmosphere. Amazingly delicious food. Great coffee and kombucha. The Bennys were "Egg"cellent! We stopped here on the way to TN and made sure to stop again on the way back to TX.
Sarah Welch
Great food! Sometimes there is a line but totally worth it.
K J
Love this place! The customer service is one of a kind! They upcycle their seating furniture, and have unique and creative art around the restaurant. They have vegan/ vegetarian options, they get their food from LOCAL farmers/farms which is always a win-win in my book! Definitely check this place out. Oh, and they have locally brewed beer too!!
Rebecca Young
Wonderful first experience here! Staff was so friendly, and the food was delicious. Loved the variety of pride flags on the patio too. Looking forward to eating at The Root again soon!
sam green
We Loved this place. Food was AWESOME drinks where AWESOME service was AWESOME atmosphere was AWESOME!!!!! Highly recommended and WILL BE BACK SOON!!!!!!!!
Katie Madey
Our favorite breakfast spot in Little Rock! They have great vegetarian options and everything is amazing!
Wayne Simpson
The place is low on parking but there is street parking available. We had a good meal and the service was quick.
Tommy Krolczyk
Looking for something a little different this it. Great food
Amy H
What a fun place! I love how they use locally sourced foods and you can certainly tell the difference when you eat here. I had a grilled ham and cheese, and also ordered at the table was the curry chicken salad sandwich as well as the deviled egg salad salad. All came with a beautiful spring salad with fresh slivered zucchini and summer squash and an amazing house dressing. The meat in my grilled sandwich was perfection. The curried chicken salad was mouthwateringly delicious and high praises for the deviled egg! Great spot with plenty of parking and quite a fresh menu...this is a MUST!!!
Zeynocuumm
They have really good food and delicious also. Good atmosphere and very nice employees.
Salvador Herrera
Very good burgers love their salad great atmosphere
Bill Hitt
Very much a neighborhood, local feel that gives you a good vibe for the local community. Solid quality food and the coffee was excellent.
Big Country outdoors
Great service with a smile food was amazing an love the atmosphere great little place with outdoor seating
William Yarbrough
Since their expansion this is by far one of the best burgers you can get in town also, try the curry chicken salad it is very delicious
Mark Alan Harris
Food and service is always great. Fantastic pulled pork dinner. Had the spicy chicken thigh dinner on Friday evening. Yum.
Kylar Anderson
Great place! All ingredients locally sourced! Food was amazing and great prices! Friendly people! And very kid friendly!
Isabelle Zamora
PSA: Make sure you have your masks with you! Last time I was by they required masks inside.
I loved everything I ate from here! We had one of the burgers and for a mainly vegan place it was YUMMY. I loved how it was cooked and the sauce they add, I wanted more. I had a side of sweet potato fries, I’ve never seen them cut and cooked like this but they were so soft when I took a bite. If you love sweet potatos, definitely order some!! I’m a carrot cake lover so I had to get a slice and they actually gave me a discount because it’s their prime cake and it was their cafes birthday that day! A discount and amazing cake, couldn’t ask for anything better. We had one of their specialty drinks which was delicious!!
We came at a busy time and had to wait a bit to sit down but I definitely loved the area!
If you’re in downtown Little Rock and the weather is amazing, you definitely have to stop by!
Thank you again guys!
Albion Slayden
I don’t know who the BLM propaganda and rainbow flags are helping but the food is good.
Anthony Buruca
This cafe is incredible. Fresh high quality food and a warm welcoming staff. We will definitely go again here next time we are in the area.
Elizabeth Hafler
My boyfriend and I visited The Root today for the first time, and we will definitely be back! The food is excellent and the staff is just as great! The decor was adorable and it is a very inclusive space. The atmosphere is super welcoming and comforting here! Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Charley Hoover
The Shiitake Benny and Buttermilk Pancakes (w blueberry) was a delicious start to the morning! Sipped it down with the Sparkling Lavender Lemonade and a cold brew coffee. 2 thumbs up
Anthony Bailey
The food was great. I ordered the Tofu Breakfast Bahn Mi which comes with scrambled eggs or tofu and a salad and some slices of toast. The Root has a chilled hole-in-the wall atmosphere and the staff is phenomenal. The dining area is seat yourself and outdoor under an awning or umbrellas. I arrived toward the end of breakfast so the wait time after placing my order was about 45 minutes. I used that time to browse the farmers market down the street.
Patrick Lenow
Very disappointed in this highly reviewed restaurant. Simple substitution request was not honored. OK, so that's the policy not customer friendly but fine. Greatest disappointment was with highly recommended curry chicken salad sandwich. While the yellow color would indicate curry there was absolutely no flavor or taste of curry. Curry in the description is why I ordered it.
Brittni Burges (Lizzi)
Delicious food and awesome vibe. Definitely enjoyed having lunch here and will for sure be back.
Catherine Dean
Friendly staff. Delicious pimento cheese burger. One order of half and half french fries and sweet potato fries enough for three people to share. Quaint patio seating in historic downtown Little Rock. There was a 45 minute wait for the food but that was because it is a very popular place to eat and visit.
Lee Riddle
It's cool, but it's overly pricey because it's in soma. Food is good though.
Tano Gentile
Great place for breakfast and lunch. Nice open areas and patio seating. The food was excellent. If the line wasn't super long when I finished breakfast, I would have bought their mayhaw wine jelly to take home. Very friendly staff.
rob lord
Walked here from my hotel, which was just over a mile. Waited almost an hour for my meal. Gotten eaten up by mosquitoes sitting outside on the patio. WORTH IT!! The meatloaf was unique, spicy, and addictive, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and the cornbread was crazy good. I would come back and wait twice as long. Also, the employees are the most pleasant people I've had the pleasure of being around in a restaurant in a very long time. This place is a winner!
Roycee Almanza
It was ok. I think I picked the wrong sandwich for me. My hubs had a burger and loved it. The eggplant fries & regular fries were good too. Everything was fresh and the folks were really nice. The honey ginger lemonade was outstanding and alone deserves 5 stars. I'm going to try a couple of other things and reevaluate my rating. All in all not bad.
P.s. there is a small, beautiful lil garden area seating.
walt neuls
Holy cannoli,
We were looking for a lunch place. Just happened to stop on this place. We were not disappointed. Super fresh, the Old World Brat is seriously the best Brat I have ever had. The Curry Chicken Salad was absolutely perfect. The staff is great and friendly. This is a must in Little Rock.
joanna sain
Good food. Lovely atmosphere. Pets welcome on the patios.
Shaye-Brianne Ott
SO GOOD. I got the mushroom benny and it was one of the best meals I've had. Cute atmosphere. Friendly staff. Would recommend.
Tanner Underdahl
I love the vibe of this restaurant. The staff is so friendly and always courteous. The food is amazing, especially the chicken curry salad sandwich. I’ll definitely be going back soon!
Ninety nine Plus The Tip
I love their food and service. They have vegan gluten free options which is difficult to find at most places.
Cassandra P
Hidden gem in Little Rock,AR. Locally sourced organic options and unique items on the menu. Limited kids selection but the side salad with sandwiches has a really fantastic garlic dressing. I recommend the bahn mi sandwich
Shannon Cress
I was visiting from Birmingham for the week with my husband. We had a hard time deciding because so many things sounded good, but I went with the hot chicken dinner (mild) and also tried the braised greens, wonderful homemade cornbread and fries. They have yummy condiments!! And KIM--one of the managers who was on staff that night taking orders was incredibly warm and welcoming made everyone feel happy to be there. Top notch customer service with vegan options if you're interested.
Servando Garcia
As usual the food is very good. It's understandable but a little inconvenient that it takes about 45 mins to transition from breakfast to lunch menu. So if you arrive wanting lunch at 11:00 there is going to be a 45 min wait for your food
Deanna Willis
Beautiful food, lovely seating area. My husband got the old fashioned brats and said it took him back to Germany. I got the chicken salad salad, very good! We both got real glass bottle cokes! Will definitely be coming back.
Douglas Capps
My husband and I picked up our dinner here tonight. We are visiting from out of town. Wanted something easy to bring back to our cottage. The food and service was outstanding. We called ahead, placed our order, and the food was ready on time.
That aside...the food was over the top delicious. I had the meatloaf dinner. Excellent, and I didn't think anybody could do meatloaf better than me. My side was Mac and cheese..spot on delicious. My husband had the Egg Salad sandwich which he enjoyed with fries. The fries were even very good on take out. We are going back to The Root Cafe for breakfast in the morning.
Josi Gass
The food was AMAZING! They had plenty of vegan & vegetarian options along with a great drink selection.
Haden Reynolds
First time here, and I'm in love. The Spiced Pecan salad is probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. 😍
The Root Old Fashioned cocktail is 🤌🙌 …
MIHOMY 4 TAX PREP & ACCOUNTING
Always fresh, always delicious. Those eggplant fries are the Biz! And the sweet potato fries, too!
Rosie
Cute restaurant with a great outdoor seating area. The bread pudding was delicious!
Dale Pekar
Flavorful butternut squash soup and sweet cornbread.
Darrien Adams
I've never had an item here that I didn't like. Unique experience with the best staff and food is DELICIOUS! Great burger and relaxed atmosphere.
Bolaji Akingbola
Great vanilla bean iced coffee! Would love to go back to try the food!
Nikita Gould
I really enjoyed this place for all of the great vegetarian options. I got the banh mi, and it was good. The real stand-out though is the corn bread. I think that could be my last meal on earth, and I'd die happy. It's only available for dinner though so don't be like me hoping to take some on the flight home but being too early.
desiree perfetti
This is my new favorite place to eat. The food is absolutely delicious, they have exciting combinations for your palate that linger in your mouth all day long. The energy and staff is so kind. You feel good overall being there and when you leave. The best way to describe the experience is wholesome. Can't wait to come back!
Alan August Nitikman
Really beautiful farm-to-table food. Even the side salad was delicious. Excellent brats & burgers, even though they seem to cater to a more plant-based crowd. Friendly service, nice outdoor seating, though limited.
Jesse Burgener
Looking for something delicious and unique that won't make you regret your life choices afterwards? Go to the Root Café! With an excellent selection of dishes pulled from local, organic sources and plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, the Root has a little something for everyone. You know the food is good when a generally-carnivorous person can order a vegan dish and walk away talking about how delicious it is, and that's this generally-carnivorous person's takeaway! That's not to say they don't make a fantastic burger, I got the Jamn Skippy, and it's a magical blend of smoky, sweet, and tangy that you won't soon forget! And I can't brag on them without mentioning the salad; as a picky salad eater, the selection of greens with the garlic vinaigrette is the perfect, healthy compliment to any dish. And it's conveniently located across the road from Loblolly, so you can immediately go back to making bad health choices after! So convenient!!
Bob Pomeroy
Passing through Little Rock, I needed some dinner delivered to my hotel. I’m glad I tried the Root Cafe. I really enjoyed the tofu spicy bahn mi. The side salad that came with it was excellent too, with nice fresh mixed greens. The carrot cake was also great.
Lynsi Oster
Everything we ordered tasted great; fair prices- particularly given it's farm to table style. Service was good too. Loved the outdoor seating area.
Ernesto Gallegos
da menu was hard to read and they didn't have turkey sausage, love the self serve coffee and donut #balls were out-of-this-world!
Alan Wilkerson
Always fresh and tasty food! Service with a smile!
Olga Adams
This is small and beautiful place. Is kind of rustic. You place the order inside and wait at the table (if you find one. The place was full on a Saturday morning). The food is simple and delicious, kind of spicy. Farm to table kind of way. We love to go to local places that support their farms. That means the food is fresh.
R Martino
The food quality and flavor is only surpassed by the friendliness of the staff! They were so helpful with suggestions and are very generous. Don't pass up an opportunity to eat here, I experienced something new and very tasty!
Maegan Wilde-Speir
The best sweet potato fries I've ever had in my life. I'm a born southerner. Those were delicious. And the butternut squash soup, swoon worthy. Holy goodness. This is easily one of the best 501 eateries. Not pretentious, local watering hole, and fantastic in every aspect.
Sue Ann Jaffarian
Excellent fresh options. Fast service. Had the curried chicken sandwich and strawberry lemonade
Docka Ansikte
I am a pretty big Guy Fiere DDD follower. Where he gives rave reviews; I dare follow. Consider it a bucket list conquest!
Happened to be passing through Little Rock, and got excited for the opportunity to check out one of Guy’s spot’s. Was stoked for healthy vegan friendly options for myself because I have been on the road for weeks. I could not do another burger 🍔.
I went for the seasonal house salad 🥗 it did not disappoint! Loved the creamy refreshing flavor of the hints of dill in the salad dressing!! Was a pleasant surprise along with the perfectly roasted salad toppings.
For my travel companions: the pimento burger with 1/2 and 1/2 fries (Guy’s recommendation), To finish: 6 pack of local IPA, chocolate chip cookie, and carrot cake (did not disappoint)!!!
So so SO good! Incredible customer service!
Glad I made the time to experience some new FLAVOR!
Kendrick Raino
I've heard from many of my friends about this place for some time so I decided to by for breakfast. They certainly take a different approach what many consider a traditional breakfast as there are some options that no other place around offers. Honestly it's a bold move but that's definitely hit or miss. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuits and gravy were pretty good, slightly sweet but no complaints. The bacon on the other hand.... I'll just say that I've had bacon bits that had more flavor. Maybe it was just an off day but I think it was actually made ahead of time because it literally crumbled to the touch. Even microwaved bacon would be ashamed to claim it as its relative. But the service was very good! Couldn't have asked for a nicer staff. I'm not completely writing this place off but I had to be honest and my experience. I'll go back again for a dinner service and will let you all know what I think of that.
Stormie Boswell
The Root Cafe has been one of my favorite breakfast and brunch spots for the past two years. The people are always so nice, and the food is delicious! I love going to a restaurant where they use better, local ingredients. The shiitake burger is one of my favorites.
The atmosphere is fun and funky, a unique spot for Little Rock, and the patio is a great spot when it feels nice outside. The lines are longer on the weekends, naturally, but it's definitely worth the wait!
Dax Salmon
Very good burgers, fries and salads. The salads that come with the burgers are very good and fresh, and so is the dressing. They also have some very good and different adult beverages. MASKS ARE REQUIRED... until you sit at your table... right next to all the people in line that have to wear masks. Doesn't make sense, but whatever. Good food.
David Goodloe
Very kind employees and the vegan/vegetarian options were delicious... I washed the food down with their hard lemonade drink!💪🏿 …
Joshua Smith
Everything was simply delicious. Good ingredients well balanced flavors. The burgers were top notch and would stand on any high end menu. Every bite was enjoyed and savored.
Alyssa Fuller
It was 90 degrees today, but in the shade and under the fans (and with a couple glasses of iced tea each) we had a lovely Father's Day lunch! The burgers have been a favorite since they opened, but I went out on a fruity limb and had the one with feta and blueberry jam-- delicious! It hit the "oops we missed breakfast" spot lol. The sweet potato fries are pretty chunky and floppy, but I will eat a sweet potato in ANY form so it's not a complaint. Regular fries were crispy, so it made for a nice contrast.
Next time we'll make it early enough for the Root Benny!

Wonderful food!!! Loved the Gluten-free Brownie!!!
Kristopher Cornwell
Absolutely fantastic experience. Pet friendly, so it was wonderful seeing all the different dogs there. Staff was super friendly and gave several great recommendations for my first visit there. Food is fantastic as well. A very solid 5 for sure. Would recommend anyone that likes supporting local business to check this place out :)
Ryan Madden
A quirky little restaurant committed to "farm to table" practices. Good selection of local beers, as well. Both my wife & I got the Hotmaker burger, which was absolutely phenomenal, and sides of sweet potato & "regular" french fries which were, again, phenomenal. The kids menu was satisfactory as well, which was nice because our kids can be picky eaters when we least expect it.
Jessica Johnston
Very customer oriented and fairly priced for the experience. The wait during lunch rush on a Friday was around 20 to 30 minutes for 2 meals and even though it was 90 outside I really enjoyed the patio (and I NEVER eat outside). A real gem of a restaurant in Arkansas 💎 …
Andrea Jones
Visiting from out of town and found this little gem online. The restaurant is so cute and the staff was extremely friendly. Upon learning that we were visiting they immediately gave out other recommendations.
Kaitlyn Sheehan
Our first visit, and it was amazing! My husband had the pimento burger, and it was comparable to the Gordon Ramsey burgers in Vegas! Great taste and quality. I had one of the bratwurst (with sauerkraut), and it was above-average. Service was quick, and the food was perfect temperature for immediate consumption!
James “Rus” Russell
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Very cool vibe. I had the Old World Bratwurst and my wife had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Both had the honey/ginger lemonade to drink (tasted like a Lemon Honey Halls cough drop without the menthol to me). Finished off with bread pudding for me and carrot cake for her. We'll definitely be going back, but only when weather allows. It was uncomfortably warm inside, so we'd prefer to go during cool weather and use the outdoor seating.
Kimberly D
Good quality and excellent food. As a bonus there are wonderful gluten free and vegan options, but none of them seem forced or like an afterthought. I'm excited to return to try other dishes.
Tessa Adams
We went here for breakfast and I highly recommend the tofu eggs and parfait. The tea options and Italian soda was so good. Highly recommend 10/10
Hannah Hancock
Loved their food so delicious and it’s all local I just love that
Lori Marchman
The Root Cafe is an excellent place to eat in the Little Rock SOMA district. It is a Farm to Table restaurant that never disappoints!!! There are cute, quirky shops, other places to eat, bakeries and a local ice cream place nearby. Worth the visit!!
Charles Stickles
Thank You for the nice meal. I'm glad CHASE Bank was able to help support this small business with start-up funds. They seem to have a good heart for what they are doing. Felt bad that their new mask policy caught me off guard. Awful to have flashbacks of the last 1 and half and all the turmoil from this apparent outbreak. I realize some things are out of their control. They are really into sanitation here, which is great. Great customer service.
Seth Roberts
Very fresh locally sourced ingredients! Never thought I could say a Burger tasted fresh but that’s exactly how it was! The prices are high for me but probably not for many in this area of town.
Rhodri (Rhodrisan)
Awesome little place. Dined on patio. Inside is currently closed. But it was comfortable and the food is fantastic. Had Banh Mi and PBT. Very good. Got a bread pudding for dessert. Plan to share that, there is a lot. Though the taste is good enough you won't want to share.
Kory C.
Since moving to the area The Roots Cafe has become our go to when we decide to eat out. The employees are always friendly and even at their busiest their service is very punctual. I believe I've tried everything on their menu. The Deviled Egg sandwich is delicious and my wife love their Ham and Cheese sandwich. I also ate their sandwich that comes with fried tofu which was my first tofu experience and I enjoyed every bite. And if you are looking for a heavier option their pimento cheese burger is amazing. With all menu item you really can taste the freshness so if you're in the area and don't choose to eat here you've definitely missed out.
Makyna Gardner
Really good! Had to wait 40 minutes but it was totally worth it! Fries and burgers are really good
D Smitty
Good food, I had the country fried tofu and mashed potatoes, bloody Mary and a buttermilk pie for dessert. The tofu was good and the pie was excellent. The bloody Mary was ok. I went with friends and had a nice time in the the easy going environment. The waiter was very nice and answered all questions easily. I would definitely eat here again.
Larry
The food and service are 5 stars all day. The environment was just a little too liberal for our conservative upbringing. I had three fluffy pancakes for $10 and they were amazing.
Ashley Murie
The food was wonderful as was the atmosphere and service! Also- $3.50 local beers!
Matthew Pinto (Matt)
I unfortunately ate too fast and failed to take a picture. But the food was incredible and even despite covid, the staff was still very hospitable and generous. Our burger was unfathomably amazing. I got the pimento burger and still think about how memorably great it tasted.
Kimberly Berger
A worthy stop for anyone passing through Little Rock for any duration. The vegan Banh Mi was amazing, and I heard the table next to me singing praise to the sausages. The atmosphere was friendly and earthy, and I was extremely happy to see they were celebrating pride month unapologetically!!
Thank you so much to the staff for a taste of the best Arkansas has to offer!!
Theodore Rogers
The contactless ordering was a little confusing. We had to sit outside and call the restaurant and the signs did not accurately portray how we needed to do it. The waitress was very nice and helpful though, and I assume they are learning to deal with the virus and will have a better setup soon. The food was generally good, I had one member of my party say it was the best sandwich in his memory.
Joanna Waddell
The food is amazing! And they are very helpful with food allergies and sensitivities. Fantastic service. Absolutely no complaints. Go now, and go often. 😁 …
Elli Coleman
Oh my gosh it was amazing!!! The food was so good, they have gluten free, vegan and vegitarian options! You can find something to eat for everyone!! And all the waitresses and staff were so super sweet! We had some car troubles and they let us stay in the warm patio, which was so sweet!! Definitely recommend!!! So so amazing!!!
Ally M
Very cute and friendly local spot! All their food is sourced from farmers around Arkansas, so incredible! Highly recommend!
OtterBeenThere Studios
Farm fresh! Best burger I've ever had, bar none. I recommend The Root to people all the time. With COVID, they've gone to all outdoor dining but have invested in the large propane heaters for each table. We had Sunday brunch there and it was quite comfortable. Love this café, the food and the staff! 🥰 …
Micah Boswell
My wife and I love this place. The almond bars and parfaits are good if you're looking for something quick; the mushroom burger and biscuits/gravy are some of the best brunch eats in the city. They also serve Airship coffee, which is a refreshing change from a lot of the other eateries in town. Highly recommend.
Bon Bon
My Vegan sandwich was great. My friend picked it up for me. But went to order online and the picture looks different from what I ordered. So not sure if they mixed up my order or picture? But it was good. Unfortunately the second thing I ordered was disgusting. Bizarre. Watery sugary bland beans for $13. Hmm. Pass on the beans go for substance
Kristine Lilly
Great locally sourced food. I am from Austin, Texas, and this place felt "like home". :)
Junky Mailhai
Meh…this place is OK at best. Not sure why this place is so hyped up. The food is just barely above diner quality. I had the egg banh mi dish and it was a mess. Carrots with Mayo and other sauces with croutons. Whatever. Better places are definitely around. I had breakfast at Fidel & CO and it was far superior. Save your money!
Kaylie McGrath
Visiting from out of town. Great lunch experience. Delicious! Dog friendly. Had a Bloody Mary and a lemonade lavender spritzer to start. Both were very fresh and tasty. My boyfriend and I had the burger, fries, and the curry chicken salad sandwich. Everything was fantastic! Best meal we have had since being in Arkansas.
John McIntyre
If you’re seeking a home cooked, 1950’s styled breakfast, that only a loving grandmother could prepare, eat here!! Ignore the limited parking, long serving line, and limited seating, because this restaurant is well worth it. I ordered 3 “sunny side up” eggs, 3 buttermilk pancakes, 4 “rabbit fed” sausage patties, country ham, a full order of bacon, and a large freshly squeezed orange juice. Every single item that I ordered was perfectly prepared, tasted fresh (not “commercial” like IHOP), and of enormous portions. I ordered a lot of food because I thought the portions would be small, but they believe in feeding you here. I can’t even begin to explain how fresh the orange juice was; therefore, I’ll just say that it was delicious. The pancakes, well, they melt in your mouth and hold syrup oh so perfectly. I don’t know if those sausages were truly “rabbit fed,” but I wish I could have robbed them of their entire supply (joke, but they were awesome). The prices will remind you that you’re not at McDonald’s, but I’d pay for good quality dining any day. Go eat!!
Chris Revelle
Quality ingredients and drinks. The plum sauce on my Banh Mi changed the flavor too much for me. But I would go back for drinks and appetizers, or even some unique gifts and groceries.
Jennifer Martorelli
Burger was good. Fried green tomatoes on the specials board were AMAZING! Sweet potatoes fries were burnt. Desserts looked like the way to go. Cute & eclectic place & cool wall mural. Overall, it didn't live up to the hype.
George B
Amazing! My son & I got the pamento cheese burgers & they were awesome. The staff was great too. It was raining &the owner opened early and personally welcomed my son and I to get us out of the rain. The waitress also made us feel at home. I will come back here anytime I'm able to get back to LR.
Courtney Clem
Such a yummy place! Even if you aren’t into the whole “farm fresh” thing this place is a good stop! Our favorite drink we get every time we go is the blackberry lemonade... so good!! It’s always busy when we go which I’ve always noticed to been a sign that it’s a good place. I’ve had both breakfast and lunch here, both great!
Rob Tulloh
Ordered ahead as we traveled through Little Rock on our way east. Food is delicious. We enjoyed the pecan salad, bratwurst, and buttermilk pie. Pie and pecans were such a hit that we bought more to bring with us. Outdoor dining with clearly marked tables that were sanitized. Everyone wearing a mask was appreciated. 2 thumbs up.
Cindy Parker
Got the pimento cheese burger and it was so good! I didn’t feel bad after eating the burger like I normally do at any other place! Maybe it’s the fresh ingredients that they use! The side salad was so good! The eggplant soup was not for me. Overall, 10/10 recommend.
Clark Hunter
Great food from scratch, farm to table restaurant! The Curry Chicken salad sandwich is incredible!! Even the bread they use was fresh, soft and delicious! The other person in my group had the Old World Brat. I tried some of it, and it was really tasty as well, I'm not a huge sauerkraut fan, but their lacto-fermented kraut was very tasty. Solid sausage all the way around. This was my first time, but it definitely won't be my last! The food is incredible, and the staff is very welcoming, and friendly! I will return soon...hungry for more!

Great Local spot, always busy. Get there early if you want prime seats. Plenty seats outside. Us Local Farmers, I love that?
Walter Bandy
I was there with a party of five and everyone's food was over cooked and one person couldn't even finish eating.
The coffee and drinks were good so I'll try them again in the future. They weren't busy either.
UPDATE: 04/21/21
On my second visit everything was wonderful. I definitely enjoyed this visit and will be back for another!

Their burgers were excellent, cooked to perfection. Service was great. Chocolate chip cookies are amazing, carrot cake was pretty darn good. Ham &cheese sandwich, so so.

Great farm 2 table cafe and short order breakfast. Salad was farm fresh amazing! Nice folks. Outdoor seating. Local ham was a treat. Nicely done menu.

The spicy bahn mi was extremely tasty. The tofu was perfect and went well with the other ingredients. The Italian cream soda was fabulous. Worth a visit!

My sister and I were raised in small Arkansas towns eating Purple Hull Peas and Cornbread. We were delighted to find this on the dinner menu at the Root, where the food is locally sourced whenever possible. The peas were fresh and seasoned well. The cornbread was slightly sweet moist and delish, a great compliment to the peas. I chose to add some shaved ham. It was amazing! The honey ginger lemonade is to die for. We also treated ourselves to dessert. Fried fresh blueberry pie with a scoop of buttermilk ice cream. The crust had that perfect light crunch! The place was full around 7 pm as we ate, there was a birthday party at a long table, so it was a little noisier than I prefer. The service was excellent. Earlier in the day, it had been a very humid 100 degree summer day. I wasn't surprised that it was still warm in the cafe, but not uncomfortably so. I never broke a sweat, and it just added to our peas and cornbread experience. It was a fine dining experience that I highly recommend to locals and visitors!

Small restaurant, but it's comfy. Ordered the Cheeseburger with Swiss cheese and a small fry. Both were really good! The burger came with a side salad instead of the fries which was different for me, but I enjoyed the salad as well. Everything was locally grown & everything was fresh. You could taste the freshness in all the food which was a big plus for me. Only put 4 stars because the service & order of everything was odd. You just grab your own menu, seat yourself(even thought the sign says wait to be seated), & then instead of a waiter coming to take your order, you go back to the front and order(or you could stand in the front until you decide.).

Stopped here on our way through Arkansas. Amazing food and the staff were super accommodating to dietary needs. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would!

The Root Cafe has locally sourced farm to market fare. I had the breakfast parfait and omelet. The parfait had wine jelly, house made granola and seasonal fruit. It was delicious. The omelet was fresh without being greasy. Cold brew coffee was awesome!

Tea and Syrups are delicious but the butter taste like plastic with a similar texture and the pancakes aren't that good but good pancakes are rare they should serve waffles instead. Most importantly is pork consumers are decreasing by the year due to conversion to pescatarian vegan and non pork meats so some turkey beef and chicken sausage/bacons would be a better addition to the menu!

What a great spot! We went there on a sunny day with our two dogs and it was lovely.
Their whole setup and outdoor area is really great. There’s a spot for kids to play and locals to enjoy a beer in the sun.
Everything seems to be local and very tasty. If you can get the fried green tomatoes, I’m already jealous! I can’t have gluten so I had the burger without a bun - it was delicious!!!
I wish I would have taken photos!

I was visiting family in Little Rock this weekend and since I eat a plant based diet they recommended The Root Cafe. The restaurant is very eclectic. It has a very laid back vibe. I ordered the Purple Hulled Peas and cornbread. The meal came with a wonderful salad on the side. It was very good and the portion size was just right. Since we were there for the weekend it was recommend by family that we also try breakfast at The Root. So we headed back Saturday morning.

Hands down my favorite place for brunch. The staff and atmosphere are amazing. The outer deck and garden seating areas are unique, open, and pet-friendly. The food is even better. Most items are locally grown and organic, with inspired combinations of mixed greens accompanying most dishes. Many vegan options are available. I make it a priority to eat here every week, if I can.

The food was rather greasy and heavy. I appreciate the organic methods and sustainable use of cloth napkins, but 13.00 for a burger is nuts in Little Rock. But I do prefer helping local business than large chains. I was pretty split about this place, it's not really good for families as it has a very cramped seating arrangement as well. We were also very disappointed that we could not order breakfast, because the place was recommended to us for it's breakfast menu.

The line out of the door was intimidating, as well as the small dining room, but please go in! The food is simply top notch - and the breakfast is reasonable in price and quantity. Sausage and gravy biscuits are a must order item, and any of their eggs are a good bet as well. The pancakes had sold out on Sunday brunch before I could order, and there is a rotating menu of specials inside. Self-service drinks, and if they are busy, bus your table as well, but a lovely little place that is popular but quick.
Andrew Harville
Great food, everything we had for dinner was delicious. Ordered the hot chicken and a cheeseburger on gluten free bread. Atmosphere of the place is good and it seems like they usually have a good crowd at meal times. We got a table right away and service was pretty good. Definitely worth the visit of you are passing through like we were.

Incredible, inventive, delicious food! Chef and staff care deeply about what they put on the plate and how it got there and it shows. Great relationships with local farmers and they can tell you where all of their food is sourced. One of my favorite dining experiences ever in my life. I can't wait to come back to Little Rock and eat here again.
Fanchen Bao
One of the best, if not the best, vegan food experiences! We ordered Crispy PBT and Spicy Banh Mi Sandwich. Boy do they broaden our horizon regarding how amazing vegan food can be! If I can choose where to live, I will settle in Little Rock just for the Root Cafe.

The food here is refreshing, and delicious. You can taste the farm fresh ingredients..that’s right, every ingredient used in cooking is farm fresh, farms all over Arkansas deliver meat, eggs, etc right here. Instead of receiving a table number you actually get a card with the name of a collaborator on it. It gives you information about the local business. It’s great! The atmosphere is very vintage/ nostalgic, my only issue is that drinks are a bit pricey...especially considering the small portions for drinks like mimosas.

A pretty restaurant with good outdoor seating.
Nice to hang out during the evenings when the weather is good.
Sandra
I love the food here! Their brunch is favorite! Eggs Benny are amazing. Food is always fresh and presentation is great. Everything I have ordered from here have enjoyed!

Phenomenal atmosphere. Delicious locally sourced food. Special was the Reuben today, and it was fantastic. Sat outside and let our daughter play when the provided toys. Parking can be a pain, but it's well worth it!

My girlfriend and I ate here recently. The food is undoubtedly delicious, high-quality, and fresh; however, we felt that the portion sizes were incredibly small for the price. Keep in mind we ate here for dinner. Lunch prices were cheaper. Our dishes were each $15.00, and they came with no sides, salad, or complimentary bread. Our appetizer was only $4.00, but we got ONE empanada. I didn't mind the portions had the prices been reasonable. The restaurant looks so casual and laid-back, yet the portions are what you'd imagine at fancy 5-star places. My last suggestion is that the menu be more readable. It took our young, able eyes a minute to read the font for some items, so older people would surely have trouble. Great local food, but I would make some changes.

Very welcoming atmosphere and all staff members were super friendly! Most importantly, the food was absolutely AMAZING! I am from St Louis and would reccomend this resturant to anyone living or visiting the Little Rock area.
Michael Bzdell
Great little gormet burger place right off the highway. Highly recommend!
Krystal
Perfect cook on the tofu bahn mi.
Rachel Larsen
Fantastic food (locally sourced & plenty of options for every diet) with a really comfortable outdoor seating area & very dog friendly. The customer service and the vibe here is outstanding. It’s by far my favorite restaurant in Little Rock!
Caylee Rachelle
So amazing! We went for breakfast and had the breakfast biscuit sandwich and it was such good quality food! We loved our experience and wished we didn't live 6 hrs away or we would frequently eat here! We also got some espresso drinks which were delicious! We loved the local farm to table concept and also the loved the unique vibe!
Jacob Lawrence
Amazing little hole in the wall serves fresh food all ingredients come from local farms and such. By far one of my favorite places to eat. Parking is kinda hectic. But the atmosphere is amazing! If you ever in little roxk you should try them out!
Melinda Graham
This place is excellent - the staff is amazing and the food is fantastic. I have allergies, and they are knowledgable and accomodating every time. They get busy during lunch hour rush, but it seems to move along pretty quickly. I typically get the hamburger on a salad, and it is delicious. Also, highly recommend their lemonades!
Ryan Brown
Fantastic cafe! Short menu with great options. Food came out fast and tasted great. The Buffalo roast coffee they had prepared was delicious as well. Patio is very convenient and allowed my dog and I to get out of the rain and enjoy the morning together.
Kelly Couch
Highly recommend the curry chicken salad. Plenty of shaded outdoor seating for you and your dog.
Brandy Dailey
Seating is really hard to come by, especially when its busy. The food isn't bad, but definitely aimed at the healthier side with lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Very quirky little cafe, and a great spot for those looking for vegan/veg. options.
Kelly Broadus
I will have to go back sometime. The wait was too long. The place has a wonderful atmosphere and the food we ordered was good. But not worth the wait or price. Once the hipe from Triple D is over and it settles back down to a normal crowd, it will be a nice place to go with friends. The servers and staff where great, but buried under the crowd. We had the special, and I do want to go back sometime and try some of the regular menu items. The cafe adds to the areas sense of community.
Joshua Thomas
Best place for locally grown, and local goodness!!! Thanks Cori and Jack

Stopped into The Root Cafe and had a great dining experience. They have a great outdoor setup. The Pimento Cheeseburger was good and the seasoned fries were terrific.
John Rozatti
I paid for some pumpkin spice bread pudding ($7) and I never received it.
Breakfast a la carte items were pricey but tasty. Wish I had that bread pudding.
Bobby Douglas
Best burger meat I have ever had! I am so sick of the highly popular and processed burger patties. Fries were perfect also. Well worth the price. I wish we had one of these in Fayetteville.

Such a cute place! This will be our new go to when we are in Little Rock. Polite staff and the best cornbread I have ever had in my life!!
Timothy Yates
Servers were friendly and it took a little bit to get the food but they were packed. The food was soo good and worth the wait. I had the pimento burger, is was juicy and everything had a fresher taste to it. Being from Georgia I am use to sweet tea. The tea is unsweet but was good and didn’t taste bitter. If I ever come back to Little Rock I will eat here again.

A Little Rock institution. Always great specials, very reasonably priced especially for fresh, local ingredients, and absolutely delicious. I have never had something here that I did not love. The bahn mi, curry chicken salad, and hotmaker are standouts on the regular menu but don't overlook the daily special.
David Harless
Great infamous LR restaurant. Wholesome feel with dishes that use many local (if not all) ingredients. They offer a spin on the traditional eggs benedict and their Banh Mi is good if you want a kick (little spicy) in the morning. Their burgers and brats are pretty decent, too. Highly recommend for a breakfast stop if you're having a hard time deciding on a local place.
April
Authentic people and food. One of my favorite places in central Arkansas. The line is always out the door (which is always a good sign). Fresh, unique food and their seating area has expanded immensely over the years. Their breakfast sandwiches (smothered in gravy) are one of the best breakfast dishes I’ve had. The line is typically moderate to long, so expect to wait a bit to place your order...it’s worth it.

Was in Little Rock on a work trip and saw The Root on TA. Tried it and loved the atmosphere and food! Went back again a few days later. Tried the sausage egg and cheese biscuit breaks fast sandwich and loved it. Second time got the parfait and some coffee! My two coworkers also enjoyed the food and tried something different the second time we came in!

This is hands down the best meal I've had on my trip since I left home last week. My family had three vegetarian dishes and two veggie apps. The arranchini was perfectly fried with a dill sauce so good I could have eaten it with a spoon. The pimento cheese was also excellent. I had the purple shell peas and cornbread served with a sourkraut so good it rivals the kraut my grandmother used to make. My partner had the country fried tofu and declared it perfectly cooked. Our daughter devoured the shitake burger in short order and told the waitress she wishes she were coming back. If we lived in the area, this would now be a favorite haunt. The cocktail menu was perfect with a good beer and wine selection. I enjoyed an Old Fashioned which was served beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. Not only was the food more than I could have hoped for, but the service was wonderful including a server who made us feel exceptionally welcome and well cared for. If you're a vegetarian in Little Rock, this little cafe is an amazing treat. If you visit, taste the bread pudding and be sure to tell me if it was as amazing I imagined it.

Perhaps my favorite biscuits in town. Breakfast is legit. Superb pancakes.
For those who don't do well in small spaces, you may find yourself cramped as the place gets busier (and it will get busier). The outdoor seating may be the way to go, if that's the case.
Julie Sauls
Food was actually lovely. Place is a little tight inside, ingress & egress is confusing and tiny. It's a very cute, casual place. It's a little confusing if you're new. Wait in line to place your order, then take your identifying order marker (they're all about the local farms) and find a place to sit down. They'll find your identifier & bring the food to you. If you order water, you get it yourself.
Locally sourced foods. Unique flavors.

Our family loves this place! This is definitely in the top 5 favorite places to eat. Local food, great service, spunky atmosphere, and kid/dog friendly! Highly recommend trying this place out!
Julie Davis
I got the spicy burger which for my taste needed to be more spicier. I love spicy food so now I think I need to start requesting restaurants to really make it spicy so that I can experience spice in every bite. I got the sweet potato fries which were ok. I like my fries cut a bit smaller.
Devin Earp
Stopped here for vegetarian breakfast during a visit to Little Rock. Great little spot with warm staff. I had the shiitake Benedict and french toast (special). The shiitake Benedict was absolutely amazing! I think they should add 2-3 more pieces of toasted baguette to the order, though.I also ordered biscuits and gravy to go for someone who's a great cook and a picky eater. She enjoyed her meal.
Hannah Jones
Probably my favorite place in town! The food is delicious, the service is great, and the vibe is just perfect. Their locally sourced ingredients make for some delicious food! Hands down the best burger in Little Rock, too!
Rosaland Jones
A Little Rock favorite. Plenty of vegan options. Try the shiitake burger!
