Loved the atmosphere at Taste of Texas! Great for any special occasion, and the staff is professional and friendly. The steaks here are some of the best I've ever had - definitely make reservations, because the wait could be up to 2 hours otherwise. You get to choose your own steak, and mine (the t-bone) was cooked perfectly. The salad bar is included with any steak order, and it's got a great fresh and varied selection. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area!

Loved every second of this place. The ambiance is amazing, the food is out of this world and the service is unmatched. This rivals at top 3 steakhouses in houston in my opinion. From fresh greens at the salad bar to only premium cuts of steak you literally cannot go wrong here. All salad dressings are homemade, rolls are fresh and steaks are of top quality beef. Drinks are great and most importantly consistent in quality and potency. Could not have asked for a better waiter or better dining experience. Can’t compliment this place enough on quality and service. Absolutely top notch and guaranteed to impress!

My Wife and I met our friends to celebrate the ladies' retirement on a Thursday evening. The Texas ambience and large room feel is impressive. We were immediately seated and shortly greeted by our waitress, Allison. After ordering our food, we had a trip to the salad bar, which had a great selection of fresh lettuce and many accessories. About midway through our salad, the waitress was back and in just the right amount of time our dinner was on the table. We all enjoyed our food, but this was the Best NY Strip steak I've had in a long time, and We were visited by the manager. O and the desert tray is important not to pass up. They did a great job with the salad bar, the food, the wait staff and the Texas atmosphere and look of the restaurant. We are from Houston and and I know we will be back soon. Don't miss this place! Great Job. Reservations recommended.

This was my first time going to Taste Of Texas since my friend wanted to take me. We had Robby for our waiter and he was amazing! He made me feel comfortable and right at home. The food was great and the bread was even better! I got to pick out my cut of steak and took a ton of photos of the decorations around the restaurant. Everyone was dressed up nice and the atmosphere was very elegant and friendly. Very clean, respectable, and organized restaurant all around. I just wish I had room for desert after my very filling steak. Next time I’ll have to eat less bread from the salad bar to have room to try their desert menu😊

This restaurant is Amazing!! Tina our waitress was professional yet fun. The food was melt in your mouth DELICIOUS. The decor was eye drawing & educational. Taste of Texas is now my new favorite restaurant in all of Houston area!! My only issue was it was my first ever visit & I asked our waitress to pack ALL the left over for & when we got home we were missing many items that were on our plates that I didn't even try because I was so full, Very disappointing..

The restaurant is huge and a mix of casual and dressed up customers. The service and hospitality is great. The owner Mrs. Nina Hendee stopped at each table and said hello to us and thanked us for coming. I thought that was really nice and sweet. When she wasn’t talking to the guests she was clearing and setting tables! She seems like a wonderful person. The food was delicious and came nice and hot. The salad bar is nice, but I would prefer a plated salad and bread brought to the table.

Greatest steak house experience so far in Houston. And actually dine in twice during the stay. With Christmas 🎄 and country style decorations. We enjoyed couple different steaks 🥩 and love them all. A strong recommend steak house. Will definitely try that next time and get some more. Since it’s crowded all the time, suggest to make reservations ahead.

This place is simply a steak lover's dream. We came here for the first time last week and had a fantastic experience! Food: 5/5 all the steak are high quality and you're able to choose your own steak for them to grill. We got the Tomahawk and porterhouse steaks to share between 3 ppl, meat was very tender and flavor was rich. Size of the steaks were definitely Texas sized! They even have a salad bar with really good selections of veggies. We got the snickers pie for dessert, it was freaking amazing. You just can't go wrong with this place. Service: 5/5 our server was great and attentive throughout the night even though the place was packed. I could tell all the servers are experienced and know what they're doing! Ambiance: 5/5 lots of Texas style decor and there's lots of history/interesting facts strewn about on the walls. We sat in a room full of vintage wine corks they put in glass displays. There were antique muskets and swords on the walls as well, really cool to see! I would for sure come back again, thanks for an amazing meal!

My second time here. California has nothing like this.y daughter just recently moved here and she requested Taste of Texas for her birthday dinner. They did not disappoint. From the time we walked in till our dinner was done the experience was amazing. Highly recommend. The salad and dinner roll bar is a must.

Taste of Texas was a fantastic experience. The indoor and outdoor decor is beautiful with a combination of local Texas flora, and pieces of Texan history. This was the first time I made a trip for a friend's birthday; the staff was extremely professional and guided us through the process. They took us to the kitchen to see the actual cuts for ourselves and which ones we wanted based on a ratio of fat to lean meat. It is an experience for anyone who enjoys a good amount of steak. The desserts are fantastic. We recommend the creme brulee and the Snickers Cheesecake.

The salad bar was awesome and had a large variety of fresh options to add. All the drinks ordered were very good. Large busy restaurant with indoor and outdoor waiting areas. The ribeye steak was good but not great. Had really high expectations for the steak. Would come back since the service was great and will try a different cut of meat next time!

This place was such an amazing experience. My husband & I loved it! I totally recommend it if you want to spoil someone for a birthday or anniversary. The staff is amazing and they made us feel very comfortable! The waiter takes your order, then takes you to pick your steak and then they show you all around the place! This place has original items from the centennial times and to see everything up closed was just amazing They also have a small store where you can purchase steak knifes, seasonings and much more! Food was just overall amazing!! although it is a bit pricy but we will most definitely come back again soon!

Decided to try Tatse of Texas for a date night and it did not disappoint. This was our first time dining here and the decor is very historic. Enjoyed looking at all the history in the restaurant. We got to walk through their butcher shop and select our steaks. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. I feel like everyone there goes above and beyond to make their patrons dining experience memorable based off my observation dining there that day. The price is definitely worth the experience and the food was delicious!

We came in for a family dinner and the whole experience was just amazing. First of all, the restaurant was decked out for Christmas and honestly these decorations put you in a cheerful mood right away. The food and drinks were delicious. The staff was beyond friendly! Our parents were visiting for the first time so our server gave them souvenir scarves and took some pictures for us to keep. We didn’t expect it and it was such a sweet experience for all of us!

Taste of Texas, my first visit to restaurant and I was in Texas many times before. How in the world did I miss place like this. This is above and beyond one of best places in Texas I have visited, EVER. Amazing food, friendly people, no reservation? No problem, come wright in! Food was amazing on so many ways. Managers are very caring and friendly and I leave best for the end!!! Every place has that one person who puts the extra effort to make you feel like at home, person who speaks multiple languages and have a Million dollar smile! This was our 1st trip to Houston and everyone recommended Taste of Texas. Our experience here was impeccable. Our server Nyla was so patient and upbeat. Superb fine dining 100% of the time! It is hands down the best steak dinner in the world. The service is exemplary. It has been our family tradition for birthdays for decades now, for good reason. That famous chocolate cake can feed a whole family! Treat yourselves!

Beautiful place rich with Texas history! If we had more time I would have spent it looking at all the great historical items they had. The team were all friendly and we were greeted so many times by so many team members as we headed to our table. Our service was excellent. The restaurant is very clean and you can see how much they care for the place. When going to look at the butcher to cut the meat that area is spotless! The salad bar has a make your own bread basket which is so nice. Salad bar itself doesn't have a lot of options but the options it does have is great quality. Tried several of the dressings and they're so good. Try the cilantro one. Mighty tasty. I ordered the ribeye med-rare and asked for it closer in the rare side. It was cooked just like I ordered. I opted out of having a flavored butter put on it. I wanted to just taste the steak. Although my steak was cooked perfectly it was under seasoned. I would come back again and try this place. They did have a great kids menu. I didn't try anyone else's food that was ordered at the table, but it looked great.

The cheese bread alone at the salad bar is worth the trip. The steak was also cooked to perfection. Don't forget to try one of the complementary sauces to enhance the flavor of your steak. I ordered the New York strip for its reasonable price and generous size, and I enjoyed it very much. Tip: I highly recommend making a reservation, especially for special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays, weeks in advance.

I have eaten at several steakhouses before with very mixed impressions, but Taste of Texas Is honestly one of the very rare places I fully enjoyed. The place is indeed pricy, but the quality of the food, atmosphere, and service is 5-star throughout. I even enjoyed eating their spinach saute! The atmosphere has this feeling of being inside a cabin. A definite treat to be there during the winter seasons. I'm posting this during early November, and they have really gone full out with their seasonal decorations. The staff there are very kind and gave us the right amount of attention to both take care of our table and allowing us time to enjoy the food. The one advice I have is: make sure you make your reservations early! The place is very busy and full when we arrived. I imagine that's mostly the case on Friday nights and weekends. So, make your reservations early. Conclusion: a pricy, but well worth every penny restaurant. A fantastic place for dates and anniversaries, but still suitable to families as well. Food is top notch. It is very hard to not like something there. If you want to take someone to somewhere special and able to splurge, come to Taste of Texas.

Tried this place for thr first time in Houston with my family. My mom goes to this place religiously so she suggested we all go there to have dinner. I want to start by saying their salad bar is phenomenal! I was very impressed with how fresh everything looked and how clean it was. I also like that require everyone to wear gloves while fixing your plate to be very cautious because of covid. I had the salmon and it was not dry at all. My family had beef and chicken options for their dinner selection and they had no complaints either. Oh yeah how could I not mention the rolls yum! When you fix your salad the have a little oven with fresh rolls and there are all kinds of rolls and I enjoyed them. I would go back and recommend people to go as well.

I’ve eaten here twice already and the experience has been amazing so far. The service was great and the food was the best. The salad bar is completely worth it and my favorite part of it is eating the fruit and the breads, which are delicious! From my visits, I’ve eaten the chicken sandwich and for my recent visit, I ate the herb crusted chicken with veggies. It’s also worth it to get dessert and bring it home if you are unable to finish it. I’ve tried the strawberry cheesecake, I believe and the chocolate cake. Keep in mind that the desserts are humongous. I will definitely bring my family here if I can.

I would have given 5 stars, for the service and Christmas deco. Was more than reasonably disappointed and surprised at how dry the lobster tails were. My husband and daughter just love seafood and they’d rather order lobster tails instead of steak. It was so dry. Had to be either overcooked or been frozen too long. It was our Christmas Eve dinner and the waiter was so nice, we didn’t want to ruin the moment and decided to not say anything. Perhaps others had experienced the same and would let the captain or manager know, and review the cooking instructions and improve customers experience. Overall for it’s Christmas scheme, it’s a great place to spend some Christmas time with loved ones.

Very easy restaurant to fall in love with. It is locally owned and something that I appreciate is the affordability/bang for your buck with the salad bar. I also really appreciated being able to go back into showcase room and choose the selection of meat that we wanted. (VERY UNIQUE) Restaurant decor was also beautiful. Our service was competent but nothing out of this world. While I wouldn't say the steaks are better than Pappas Steakhouse, this place is much better bang for your dollar and provides just as a memorable experience. Also some great decor inside too

As many times as I have been in Houston, this is the first time I heard of this place. My business guests suggested this restaurant and I am very glad they did. I had 7 guests and because this place is so busy and totally booked, we had to eat at 4:30! It was well worth it. As large and crowded the place is we were treated like royalty! They even gave us a tour of the whole place including their butcher shop and kitchen! Deliciously prepared food and very prompt and courteous service. Even though it's not on the cheap side it's worth every penny. As we were leaving, there at least 50 people waiting to be seated and this is a very large restaurant with multiple dinning rooms!

Walked in on a Sunday evening and waited for about 20 mins which I think it was totally reasonable. Ordered a centre cut filet (6 oz) and a T-Bone Steak, both were cooked perfectly, juicy moisture and savoury, didn’t add anything extra on top the steaks and the it’s the quality beef you can taste. our second time dining here but first time during the pandemic. we came for Christmas eve dinner since our original plans with family was canceled. really glad that Taste of Texas was opened and that we were seated quickly because restaurant was fully packed and many people especially big parties of families were waiting before us. it was a Xmas miracle for us because it should have been 45+ min wait but people canceled bc cuz they couldn't really long and that because there were only 2 of us, this was our 1st Christmas eve dinner as married couple which is why we wanted to go to a nice place for dinner to celebrate. restaurant was nicely decorated and festive for the holidays. great service as well as food.

Went for my anniversary, Our waiter was very good and informative. The food was very was in my opinion worth what we paid. Lavender Martini was great addition. and from what our waiter said added just that day.I got Porterhouse that was cooked to perfection and galic butter topping is definitely a great add on . Amazing service, first steakhouse I’ve been to where you hand pick the steak! Best part of the meal was hands down the pecan pie, I’ve had great steaks before but the pie made me want to call my grandma up and tell her she needs to step her game up on hers! I am not a big fan of pricey food but omg. Our host N.I.C.E opened my eyes to truly amazing medium center cut, quail bacon appetizer, and so much food for the price. The people were friendly and informative but not in a business setting manner. The owners came by had a conversation and the staff were so friendly. In my opinion one of the best steaks in all of Texas! I first went 23 years ago and still go at least once a year! Family owned. Service is always fantastic! We celebrate most special occasions here - especially our wedding Anniversary which was 23 years ago! We've saved every photo of our anniversary dinner! Salad bar is awesome! We had an amazing time at the Taste of Texas. Pre-booked online (highly recommended as it gets very busy). The food was amazing, we ordered the Cowboy Ribeye steak to share as it was massive (24oz), and I found the food portions very generous..... loved the salad bar - lots of variety to pick from, Samantha B, was amazing... very friendly and knowledgeable. She was always ready to help / answer any questions. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was also very nice. The restaurant was decorated very nicely... definitely brought on the Christmas spirit. It's definitely worth a visit. Thanks, Taste of Texas...

Taste of Texas is my favorite restaurant in Houston. The atmosphere is pleasant. The level of service is fantastic, and the food is delicious. During today's visit, I indulged in the salad bar. Their homemade bread is addicting and good. For my entré, I ordered the marinated steak skewer at medium temperature. It comes with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. For dessert, a slice of pecan pie and carrot cake. This place is a must-try. God bless ✌️

Excellent food and service! Lulu was a fabulous server-very attentive and pleasurable. Salad bar was OK. The steaks in our party of 4 were cooked to perfection with abundant flavor. Great place to get a steak in Houston. Desserts are huge. Check out the chocolate cake.

If you want to know why five starts get ready because I'm going to write. First of all you are going to see some History at the place. The decoration is all about the story of Texas and it's very interesting. The huge place has curious details and artefacts...even the restrooms! When you step inside the service starts, they are there for you. The whole service was on time and so gentle and practical. From the first water until the end with dessert. The food was delicious and the portions were so big. I spoke to the manager to say all of these beautiful things about the place. We left so happy for creating a moment and with our printed picture bonus we built a memory in this AMAZING restaurant. Thank you so much! I recommend it 100%!

The name says it all. Inside looks like a museum in the waiting room, with many artifacts and historical elements proudly hung up on walls. Interesting experience to choose your own meats in the kitchen. Great service.

My first visit to Taste of Texas was definitely unforgettable. From the moment you're greeted by the wonderful staff at the door, you're treated like a cross between a VIP & family. Our server was not only friendly but very knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and he was eager to give us a tour leading us back to the kitchen where we were encouraged to choose our own cuts of steak. Starting with the bottomless Salad Bar, our plates were filled with fresh veggies, a variety of toppings and warm breads and butters. Prime Rib and Lobster Tail were cooked to perfection, as were the Medallions. Each plate was served with delicious sides including choices that ranged from fully loaded baked potatoes to asparagus spears or bacon jam brussel sprouts. And don't even get me started on the desserts! We enjoyed 3 different desserts at my table. The Snickers Cheesecake is a "to die for" indulgence of thick and creamy cheesecake sandwiched between a chocolate ganache, snickers, more ganache and whipped cream. The Creme Brulee was beautiful with its perfectly hardened golden top. The Tuxedo Mouse with raspberry sauce and a Texas Star cookie was light and perfect paired with a cinnamon coffee. After dinner, our server took photos of our group and immediately printed them for us. We then visited the store within the restaurant where I was able to purchase a cookbook that contains the history of Taste of Texas as well as recipes for all of the delicious menu that they rightfully boast. This was by far, the best steak house experience I've ever had and I look forward to visiting again.

Our family has been regulars of Taste of Texas for over 20 years. It's our favorite restaurant in Houston without a doubt. The staff and the managers are always friendly, and the quality of food is top notch. Fantastic steaks. The salad bar is the best I've seen across the nation. I really enjoyed my dining experience here. The food was delicious and the waitress was nice/attentive. Two highlights I want to point out: the salad bar offers way more than I expected and the dessert platter (pictured) they tempt you with after dinner makes it easier to convince your group to order dessert with you. Came here to celebrate my parents’ birthdays & the food was excellent. It was all of our first time there! My favorite steak of life is the Tomahawk! TofT had the best I’ve had thus far! I got it cooked medium & it was so juicy & flavorful! We got to pick out which steak we wanted & the salad bar, etc was great! We had a party of 5 so we tried a lot of different things & there were no complaints! Parking was fine, we made reservations, but there were some who didn’t & had to wait an hour for a table, just fyi! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu & very attentive. One of the absolute best steakhouses I've been to. My well done center cut filet was juicy and flavorful. The salad bar is amazing as well. I love their salad dressings and jalapeño corn bread. Nice atmosphere with fun decorations.

Apart from the food, which was excellent, as expected, this steakhouse is one of the best I’ve been to, food wise and service wise. Service was top notch, never late with refills and checking in with us regularly. Even sliced the food for the kids so we could enjoy our meal. I’ll be back for sure.

Went out for Man v-day!!! Even though the restaurant was quite busy the service was fantastic. Of course he had to get a steak & he said it was good & ordered the bacon jam brussels sprouts . The salmon was delicious and cooked perfectly, potatoes were tasty and the broccoli was also good. The trip to the salad bar was awesome & I am especially grateful the toppings were off to the side so that I could safely eat the salad as I have a gluten intolerance. The raspberry vinaigrette was so delicious I am still thinking about it two days later. The restaurant does not guarantee gluten free, but I felt fine after eating there, I do not have celiac just a gluten intolerance. Definitely would like to go back.

Everything is bigger in Texas!! We heard great things about Taste of Texas so we decided to give it a try. We made reservations online which I highly recommend. The hostess and the wait staff was really friendly. This restaurant is alot bigger on the inside than I expected and can be noisy with alot of people. If your looking for a more intimate spot this isn't it. The attire is really mixed some casual and some business casual. Once we were seated we was able to go to the salad bar. It was really nice there are fruits, salad and toppings. You also get to pick your own steak which was nice. However, I didn't like leaving my drink unattended at the table. The steak was by far the best I ever tasted. It was cooked to perfection and flavor was delicious.

It was pretty crowded over dinner time. I booked table through yelp and the queue was like 70ish so a group of us decided to try our luck by walk-in as well. We got table for 5 in less than 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and showed us salad bar area and the room where selections of meats were displayed. Each meat is vacuum-packed into one serving portion. You can see and pick the meat up to your liking and staff will put the metal number plate on to identify it is yours. This is cool. Salad bar selections are huge with bread, veggies, cheese and fruits. Don’t enjoy too much or you won’t finish your steak lol. You can choose the sauce for steak and staff was nice enough to give us extra to try. When it comes to dessert, you really can’t deny the offer. Staff came with the tray of dessert displays and they look so real. This technique is very powerful for my sweet tooth. Staff also offered us the cowboy hats & bandanas to take polaroid photo. We could keep bandanas as a gift & returned hats. This place is amazing. Staff are all attentive. Meals are yummy. Yes, it is pretty pricey but well worth it for special treat.

The steak tastes just okay. Not with many flavors. I personally think it is just a medium level of the steaks I had from my experiences. Maybe I held high expectations of this steak house since everyone recommended it. However, I am kind of disappointed with the food here. I have to say the service and the restaurant decoration here are superb! But one of the things that made me feel uncomfortable is that the tables are too close. We love it here. The service is great and the food is even better. I had the T-bone, hubby had the tomahawk, daughter had the center cut, and my mother in law had prime rib. EVERYTHING was deliciously flavored and tender. We really enjoyed the salad bar with fresh bread/rolls as well. We always like to pick our own steaks at the butcher's window-which is a nice little experience in itself. Just make sure you make reservations ahead of time (like 2 weeks in advance) otherwise you can be waiting up to 2 hours to get seated.

Had a fantastic meal here with my sister, brother in law and their 2 children. We booked a table for 6.30 and had to wait over 20 minutes before we got to it as they were very busy so make sure you book as people were queuing up outside for a table. There’s a free salad bar. The steaks were really good and the service was excellent - thank you John :-) it’s a bit pricey but worth it!

By far my favorite steak restaurant in all of Houston! The experience is unlike anywhere else. When you order your entree you also get the salad bar and a side. The salad bar by itself is worth the entire price! They have every topping and dressing you can imagine. Fresh home made rolls (jalapeño cornbread, cheese rolls, and regular rolls). You can also go into the kitchen and pick your own steak for them to cook. The steak is always juicy and cooked to perfection. The flavor- impeccable! I learned tonight that Nida and Ed (the owners) even pay for their staff’s college education if they get good grades. What an amazing company! The staff is always friendly and attentive. They help each other out. It’s seems like a very respectful and nice place to work, and you can tell because the staff always seems happy! We also got the cheesecake for dessert and it was so good but now I feel like I could pop I’m so full. I can’t wait to go back! Definitely a great place for birthdays, holidays, anniversary’s or really any celebration.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here on Friday evening. Everything was excellent! The atmosphere, the wait staff, the food and drinks. The wait staff are like ninjas when they would fill my glass I never even noticed. My husband and I were able to hold a conversation without being interrupted. We had the salad bar with is my favorite part of the meal. The filet was melt in you mouth delicious. I asked our waiter if I should order the au gratin potatoes or the macaroni and cheese. He said hands down the potatoes and he was right they were delicious. The bread was so good and our waiter was so kind and boxed so up with our leftovers food. We did have a 45 minute wait but sat in the bar and had a drink while we waited. We got our complimentary dessert for our anniversary to go because we were so full.

Really amazing meal for a Carnivore! I was able to pick my own cut and size of steak, even better I was thrilled to be able to pick out my own steak from the case in the back. All of the beef is Certified Angus beef which means the quality is incredible. Even the salad bar was Carnivore Friendly with lots of cheese and bacon. Perfect restaurant for a special occasion as a keto/carnivore...you won't miss the carbs when you have such an amazing experience and meal.

We visited Taste of Texas, Saturday night .To celebrate my birthday .Arrived and checked in at 8pm , wait time was around 90 min . After we got a table , we were sat at a section by the bar , which is secluded from the main sitting area. Was not really happy with the location of the table , but Crystal our waitress saved the night for us . She’s an excellent employee who has extensive knowledge on the menu and great recommendations. She provided us the whole Taste of Texas experience, from taking us to the butcher shop to select our own cut to giving us a complementary birthday surprise and photo !! Thank you soo much Crystal for changing my experience.

The food was really delicious. I would give it an additional star if our server had been friendlier. He was very abrupt and I got the feeling he was not in the mood to be there. We had two handicapped people in our party of 5 and it seemed like he was annoyed by the slowness. Maybe it just wasnt his day. The bathroom in the front is unique. It is filled with interesting memorabilia on the walls and a tv in the sink mirror so you can catch up on food network. I didn't even know it was there until I kept hearing people talk about amazing burgers whilst I used the facilities. Overall it is a great restaurant for steak.

An absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. This place is truly above the rest. Part museum, part butcher shop, part restaurant, and all awesome. The entirety the facility is regaled with various artifacts from Texas history. Truly you feel like you're in a magnificently crafted museum dedicated to this dear state. From doors to the Alamo to swords and guns wielded by the founders of the state. There's a bit of everything. Now onto what is the point of the place, food. It is an Nice steakhouse. With the traditional salad bar which comes with any entree. All you can eat bread of various types as well. Our waiter Preston M. Graciously explain the process to us newcomers and walked us through how to go to the salad bar and then after making excellent suggestions we went to the butcher area and viewed which steaks we wanted to partake in. They're out We enjoyed the salad bar for a good while and ordered a nice bottle of wine. Our steaks then arrived. A filet bacon wrapped, and a cowboy ribeye. In the end we decided the cowboy rib eye was way better than the fillet. That's just the kind we prefer. Which was actually what Preston suggested so we should have just ordered two lol. In the end it was an amazing experience that we will never forget in large part due to our server Preston and the steaks and salad of this History museum that happens to also be a great restaurant.

Went here for the first time for lunch and I loved everything about this place, the atmosphere, the service, the food. The jalapeno cilantro dressing i put on my salad was to die for. And my beef tenderloins were cooked rare and to perfection. It was one of the best tasting steaks I have ever eaten. Too bad I had no room for dessert because they looked fantastic but were HUGE. This restaurant has been around since 1977! Amazing food and experience. I was taken back to the butcher shop where I got to pick out not only how many ounces I wanted my ribeye but which part of the meat I got to choose as well. After picking out a 20 oz marbled hunk of meat, I was then ushered to the salad bar where you make your own salad and slice your own cheese off of the huge blocks. Grabbed an asiago cheese roll that was made to look like a cinnamon roll. Had Texas quail eggs and fresh made cream cheese stuffed and breaded jalapeno poppers, with house made pepper ranch and also a Dr Pepper glaze sauce to dip my appetizer. Had a "Makers BlackBerry" which is a very light slightly sweet blackberry version of an Old fashioned. They tag your steak when you get it cut, then when it comes out on the platter the tag is there to let you know that that's the steak you picked out. Garlic mashed potatoes as my side and some little Texas toast with special butter and raspberry chipotle jelly. Had a traditional old fashioned made with a local Texas bourbon - very smooth. Not that I had any room but the dessert selection was also off the charts and I chose the local bakery made carrot cake. This is more than a meal this is definitely an adventure and I would love to come back again!

Great service and all the food comes hot, but all the food was too salty for my liking. Nobody else at my table thought this. So, if you are salt sensitive, tell your waitress and she could let the cook know. Waitress seemed to think salt was in the butter they use for preparation.

I was so amazed with this place, this is a great celebration place especially during Christmas. The place is completely transformed into a Christmas wonderland. You would feel as if you were in the north pole I’m not kidding you. I have never seen so much detail going to a restaurant to transform into Christmas, the server also let us know that most of these pieces are actually antiques versus just some thing that they bought at Walmart and placed some random place. There’s even decoration in the bathroom. Another thing about the bathroom, there is a TV in the mirror lol so if your date goes to the bathroom 10 times you know why 😂! We all ordered a steak since it was a steakhouse LOL and one of the cool things is your salad bar is included with your steak order, another cool thing is that you can actually pick your own steak. When you’re picking your steak the server will help you to let you know what is considered a good steak. But beware, you may want to change your steak when you see you ordered the 6 ounce fillet and there’s a tomahawk steak that’s huge. The service was great my steak was just OK but everyone else seem to really enjoy their steak sides tasted good. I would 100% recommend especially during 🎄

Maybe a 3.4 or 3.6. I hadn’t been in about a decade and we had some gift cards. Very casual for a Saturday night. People in shorts and flip flops. Their menu describes the Prime New York Strip Sirloin as “The Steak Lovers choice” and “the finest steak money can buy” There I was thinking they had some magic spice blend and technique to make it the most tender and tastiest NY Strip I will have. Unfortunately it was bland and tougher than one I can cook at home on the grill. The salad bar while decent and the bread and cheese is awesome. It looks like something out of a hotel continental breakfast area. Place was packed, you absolutely need a reservation. Place was too gimmicky for me. May have been cooler when I was young, wasn’t somewhere I would return to.

We had such a wonderful time celebrating my husband’s birthday at Taste of Texas. It was our first time visiting, and I loved how the restaurant is basically a museum but not in a campy, tacky way. The ambiance is relaxed, even though it’s a pretty upscale restaurant with a nice wine selection. The steaks are amazing, as you would expect. The prime rib is buttery soft and the horseradish sauce it’s served with is creamy and not overwhelming. I had the cowboy with truffle butter, which was amazing. Cooked to perfection, and the fat rendered really beautifully. But the real highlight of the night was the amazing service. Kathy was so sweet and patient and never rushed us, answered all of our questions, and gave us some great recommendations. The guys at the bar were lovely (we had a cocktail there before our meal), and the hostesses were upbeat and professional on the phone and in person. It was a really great dining experience, and I look forward to returning.

My wife got the Texas pecan crusted chicken stuffed with a spinach and artichoke blend with a lemon butter sauce, served with some rice and green beans with bacon and almonds and a trip to one of the best salad bars i've seen or tasted. I enjoyed the grilled tenderloin medallions cooked medium rare, cooked to perfection, came with some horseradish sauce underneath it and topped with fried onion rings. Nearby scrumptious asparagus spears nestled next to some stellar mashed taters made me very happy. Of course we sampled each other's entrees. To give you an idea as to how good my medallions were, my wife doesn't like much pink showing and she loved eating more than one piece.....the tenderness was a major selling point for her and me. Both entrees came with a trip to the salad bar. It took us quite a while to make it here because of the price....yeah I'm cheap....this place is worth it. Our next soon visit we'll split an entree and and get an extra trip to the salad bar. I couldn't help myself and had to try a dessert and it was as good as everything else, the slice of pecan pie was awesome and taller than any other pecan pie I'd ever encountered in my foodie journeys. The service was on par with the grub, thank you Janie R. for taking such good care of us newbies.

The place was decorated lovingly for the holidays when we went for our 3 year anniversary, it was seriously breathtaking! We had a reservation and we're seated in less then 3 minutes. Our waiter (Brendon V.) Was outstanding! We will request him next time again :) The food was beyond good. So much so, I really can't find anything to complain or criticize. I have been to Taste of Texas so many times I’ve lost count. This place has it all! Great service, beautiful decor, fantastic food and a comfortable setting. Whether you’re in the mood for soup & salad or a tomahawk steak, you won’t leave hungry or disappointed. It’s a wonderful dinner date spot and also casual enough for lunch with friends. I’ve celebrated a couple birthdays with ToT, a graduation congrats, multiple lunches with coworkers and even stopped by for salad bar to go (I love their salad bar!). The restaurant has a bar room where you can enjoy a cocktail while waiting for your table. The onsite gift shop offers Texas inspired decor, kitchen & grill items, seasonings, coolers, steak gift boxes and so much more. It’s important to note the decor. Everything is hand picked by the owner. On a regular day you can spend hours looking at all the elaborate, rustic, ornate and unique finds. For a real treat, visit again during the Christmas holidays. Every item is removed and holiday pieces take the place of “regular” decor. I can’t image the time it must take to do it all. It’s truly a sight! This is one of the best restaurants in Houston; it is Texas through and through. There’s only one (literally) Taste of Texas and to dine there is truly a delightful treat! To eat there is more than a meal, it’s an experience.

I have been to the taste of Texas numerous times over the years. But my most recent dining experience was on Saturday, December 10, 2022 for a group of nine people. The food was great as usual. But the purpose of this review is about the service we received. The management side is bringing in Christmas gifts and they politely informed us we could not do gift exchanges at our dining table and they continue to watch and hover over us to be sure we complied with their request.

As usual, they had a full house but everything ran like clock work. Credit to the staff and the management. Overall good experience. I went a couple of times before but had some guests from Europe and wanted them to have the experience. The ambience is still perfect but the meat quality is very ordinary. Not worth the price. Last times I visited the meat was perfect and worth every penny. Also appetizers and sides were not impressive.

Wish I could give this place 7 stars! If you are looking for fine dining, this place is it! Amazing flavor in all the food, even down to the butter. The most attentive, caring staff of any restaurant I have ever been to! You can tell they genuinely want you to be happy, and would chop off their own arm and leg if you asked. Food was fresh, presentation was exquisite, and decor complemented the Texan atmosphere as well. They even recognized it was my first time there and gave me a complimentary dessert and allows me to modify it! If you’re looking to spend big and impress, Taste of Texas is the place.

The steaks are excellent, you can select your own cut, and all the topping options and sides are wonderful as well. Taste of Texas is one of those places that you owe it to yourself when you’re traveling to a city to visit. This particular restaurant focuses on a high-quality meals using only the best cuts of steak. How many of you who followed me know my reviews of mac & cheese are typically very provocative, this review will not be very positive. The mac & cheese was extremely underwhelming and frankly bland and dry. Coupled with an absolutely phenomenal steak it did bring the overall meal down ever so slightly however this was quickly made up by the level of customer service as well as the overall experience from choosing your own steak to the terrific Keylime pie and perfectly cooked quail bites.

Took my wife there to celebrate our birthdays which are a week apart .. our waiter was very kind and went to extra lengths to make our meal special. The salad bar, with a block cheese bar and bread selection was great. We both ordered t-bone steaks and were a bit disappointed. My wife's steak was a bit under cooked for a medium steak and both steaks were a bit tough and bland to taste. Didn't seem to have any season other than the garlic butter it was coated with. The waiter took and printed a nice photo and gave us a complimentary dessert that was over the top good.

This restaurant is phenomenal. You are welcomed from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Our waiter, Christian was exceptional. He went over the entire menu and gave his recommendations and he always throughly checked in with my party. I had the Center Cut Filet and it was truly delicious. It was cooked just right and it was super tender and succulent. For desert, I had the Snickers Pie. That’s my favorite dessert at Taste of Texas. I just wish they sold an entire pie because I would most surely purchase it. Overall, my party and I had a great time and we will definitely be back.

I recently ate here with colleagues and everyone at the table really enjoyed the food. I had the tenderloin medallions and they were excellent. The crouton-style toast and salsa at the table as a starter was odd and I recommend the salad bar instead. I love the after dinner mints so much!

This place was sooooo good!! I’m so sad I didn’t get a picture of my food before. I had the Bacon Gold Burger & it was so big & good!! Our server Kathy was an absolute sweetheart and amazing!! Even though she had other tables, she made sure we were well taken care of. All my family said great things about her!! I don’t eat steak but boy did them bad boys look amazing when they were passing them out to a few of my family. It is so worth the price. They did not play when it came to meeting their customers expectations!!! My cousin didn’t want to be a pain in the butt but her steak was mostly fat & we kept telling her to speak up especially if you’re paying top dollar. So finally another family member did & the manager came out and offered her another steak. The next one he brought looked soooo good & they apologized and was very nice and professional!! I will definitely be back!! Overall great place!! :)

Four of us ordered Tomahawk steak, 38oz, $110. It was great. It came with a side dish (we chose brussel sprouts with bacon)and salad bar. We also had stuffed mushroom caps, tortilla soup, slice of heaven (chocolate moose), and carrot cake. The food was fantastic but service was ok. Had to ask for refills but she forgot again for the 2nd time. Soup didn't come out before our steak either. I also would suggest this fancy place to serve filtered water/ice. This place is like a museum. It's worth to visit once but it's pricy to come too often.

It was good to be back for dinner to celebrate my birthday. The service, food etc was as good as ever. Last time was there was pre pandemic. Our server Kristen was excellent, great personality and nice to talk with. The only thing was a downer, was to hear your GM for all those years had passed away. I never will forget during Harvey, he risked his safety to rescue a woman trapped in her car as the water was trying to get in. A true hero.

If I could give it 7 stars I would. The food was incredible. One of the best steaks I have ever had. This is also more than a meal, it's an experience. When you order your steak, you have the option of going I to the butcher area in the back and selecting your steak, or having the server select for. The salad bar was fresh, and the selection of breads were delicious. I loved the fresh cheese blocks that you just sliced off a bit yourself, which oddly enough was one of my favorite things. The stem itself, was phenomenal. All I had on my 16oz ribeye was garlic butter. My wife had a 10oz filet, wrapped in bacon. Both steaks were phenomenal. We had a chocolate 4 layer cake for dessert, and needless to say, that was incredible as well. The lump crab cake was probably better than a y seafood restaurant I have been too. It seemed that it was almost 100% crab without a bunch of stuffing or fillers. The ambiance is nice, it is nicely decorated in obvious Texas Fare, and all of the decorating is very nice. Some of the gun memorabilia on the wall is very interesting as well, if you like that. There's even a small shop inside the restaurant where you can purchase steaks or desserts pre-packaged to go home. In addition to food, there are keepsakes you can purchase as well like branded Taste of Texas merchandise. In regards to social distancing, if that is your thing, all staff wears masks and sanitizors and gloves are provided at the salad bar. The only thing I will say, as first time visitors, we did not know about the steak selection or the birthday celebrations that they do. It was my wife's birthday, and they did not do the sparkler photograph that you so frequently see throughout the evening. While I was a little disappointed not to have the full birthday experience for my wife, I am certainly not holding this as a negative against them. More so, just so that way anybody reading this will know to ask for the sparkler keepsake picture for A birthday or anniversary celebration. Management is very professional, in addition to every person that we ran into that works there. They genuinely want you to have a great experience, and like I said before this is more than just a meal this is an actual dining experience. While it might be a little bit on the pricey side, you certainly get what you pay for. It's clear that anybody that goes here knows that it's not a budget steakhouse, rather it is fine dining at its best. This is a great place to go for any type of celebration, or romantic evening.

I came here for my birthday. Making a reservation was super easy online. We were sat quickly. Beautifully decorated in and out! Very classy and some Texas flare. We were served by Roderick. He was so nice and checked on us frequently. I never had to go look for him for anything. He was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. Our order came with salad bar. Everything was fresh and delicious. Bread was great too. Cinnamon butter taste like cinnabon frosting! I ordered center cut filet. You get to go choose your own cut from the butcher! I picked the one with beautiful marbling. It was tender and just melts in your mouth. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband had cowboy steak. Also perfectly cooked. Garlic mashed potatoes are to die for too. They brought me a dessert of my choice and a parking candle. Even took a photo and printed it on a card for us!!! So nice. My creme brulee was perfect! I can eat that everyday. My husband ordered chocolate cake. Be warned. It's huge. About 3x the size of my hand. But soooo good. I highly recommend this place. A must visit place in Houston! I'm definitely coming back.

Fantastic meal as always...!!! Update: We had lunch here today (4-26-23) and it was completely fantastic!!! Our waiter Jace made it an unbelievable experience. The restaurant is part Texas history exhibit & part culinary Heaven! I LOVE THAT! The steak skewers were prepared to utter perfection. The melt in your mouth taste is soo good. My veggies had the light crunch & also tasted awesome. The mashed potatoes were whipped to be light and fluffy, and tasted perfect. The pinot noir wine was a California vintage & it went well with our meals. Lastly ...the dessert. Cinnamon flavored ice cream from Blue Bell and it did not disappoint. I'd definitely order it again. Heck I'd probably order all of this meal again! BTW- That ice cream flavor is not available for public purchase, it can only be ordered at the Taste of Texas restaurant. Enjoy!

Excellent place to celebrate a special occasion. The staff is super attentive, the decorations are amazing and if you go now, Christmas decorations are up! The salad bar has plenty of options, and the cilantro vinaigrette was spectacular. Steaks were cooked to perfection. The center cut is described as “the most tender and delicious filet ever” and it truly is. We enjoyed the chance to select our own cuts. Desserts were also spectacular. This place is amazing. My wife and I came here for our 22nd wedding anniversary. It's beautiful on the outside and you notice it when you first pull up. It's very rustic and very Texas. Then once you get inside, it's very inviting. They had Christmas decorations everywhere and it was really first class. The food was top notch. I had the cowboy steak and my wife had the herb chicken. Both were fantastic. We had a snicker pie for dessert on the house in honor of our anniversary. It was a full dessert unlike some complimentary desserts marking special occasions. Recommend.

She was explained the menu and service in both English and Spanish and made sure everyone was well accommodated. My husband and I came here last night to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We are so glad we picked this spot. The service was amazing. Our waiter, Chris checked on us frequently and made sure we were taken care of. The food was Excellent! We got to pick out our own steaks (I got the NY strip & my husband got the Tbone) and that was a cool experience. The salad bar was clean and frequently checked on by the staff, not to mention it was also delicious (esp the Cinnamon butter!) The bread was always warm and flaky. The steaks were cooked just right and so tender. We also got the sweet potato with pecans and brussels sprouts with bacon jam as our sides and they were also really good. We did the chocolate cake for dessert. We appreciated them celebrating our anniversary with a candle on the cake. The owner's wife also came up to us and introduced herself, and we appreciated that as well. She was very lovely to talk to. Overall an excellent experience and worth every penny we paid.

Been some time since I dined at this wonderful establishment and was reminded why this is one of the best steaks deals around. First, yes the are Covid compliant including no touch doors, masks, a cute way to space tables and the famous salad bar which now is served FOR you rather than self serve. The steaks were delicious, cooked correctly and include the salad bar plus a side for reasonable price. Done deal! We had Linner around 230-4p with a light crowd and felt safe and comfortable. Our waitress Crystal(Forgot her last initial) was super sweet and recommended two dish to us that was absolutely amazing! Texas Quail bites and Brussels Sprouts. The baked Brie was my boyfriend favorite besides his port house steak he had. It was just a little mistake with his steak with it being medium well he wanted medium rare and Crystal fix that for him easy and was really sweet about it and apologize a few times! The food is on the pricier side and the wait might be a bit long. They have a waiting room with snacks that includes popcorn and chips and salsa. There are also a variety of drinks to choose from while you wait. All complimentary. Parking is limited during the their peak dinner hours. The service is amazing and top notch. They want to make sure that you enjoy your steak and you even get to pick out your steak! The salad bar is amazing, above and beyond. You have to grate your own cheese from this huge block of cheese. They have a great variety of breads and spreads to go with it. Definitely a great place to celebrate special occasions.

QiQi and I decided to pop in after work. It has been a while since I have eaten here and I accidently order a New York Prime rib. It was wayyyyyy to tough. I have to admit, I am no coneseure of steaks. QiQi explained this is how new York steak is and despite now knowing this fact, I am still sadden that it was so tough. We ordered desert and it was overall fine. Someone got engaged while we were there and QiQi started to squint her eyes at me. Which is a big deal because she is Chinese. Lol. The parking lot outside the steakhouse is very large, and it is almost full at night. Even if you come here earlier at 4 pm in the afternoon, there are still many guests waiting. There are free drinks and coffee in the waiting area. Many Texas cultural relics were placed in the restaurant, but the light in the restaurant was dim, and my camera was not good, and no beautiful pictures were taken. Although the price is a bit expensive, they do not require guests to wear formal clothes, jeans are also possible. Regarding the high-grade beef used in Taste of Texas, they are all selected beef, the meat cabinet is just in front of the salad bar. After you have selected the meat, a professional butcher will help you cut it. Of course, you can also ask your waiter to help you choose. The cheapest steak is about thirty dollars, not super expensive, but not cheap too. The salad bar you need to take it by yourself in this steakhouse. The salad used very nice stuffs, fresh, clean, premium and delicious! I highly recommend everyone to eat their salad! In their salad, everything is delicious, and the bread is just baked, especially delicious! I will recommended not to add too much sauce to the steak, and it does not even need any seasoning to be super delicious. I like to eat medium cook. If you don’t like to eat beef, you can try their chicken burger. Although the price is not cheap, but the chicken is quite tender and it does not dry at all.

Beautiful interior design, salad bar was great, food was super fresh. Staff were nice. Each time I am going there they have consistency in the service and food with is great. Steak was really good but not a great value for the money. I feel a little bit of rush. They almost throw the bread and butter plate in the table. We also waited for the waitress for a long time to order desert or ask for check. Overall is a nice place and I will visit again.

Update 3/20/21: the service and decor are great and were not disappointed since our last visit was pre-COVID. We ordered the steaks and accompanied with a trip to their well-stocked salad bar. The our server Jen was attentive, friendly and helpful. Lastly you will not be disappointed and they ensure that your steak is cooked to perfection and your required temperature. Pre-COVID-19 comments: We have dined at this location several time with both small as and large groups. Each the salad bar is always fresh and tasty. The bread and cheeses are great. The entrees of grilled tuna and beef filet medallions are great and cooked to your liking. The service was impeccable and welcoming as usual. Had a business dinner meal on 10/23 and service was excellent along with the salad bar and the price rib roast steak I had was cooked perfectly accompanied with vegetables and horseradish and sour cream. Great evening.

One of the best steakhouses in Htown. The experience is truly one of a kind. During Christmas season the place is so alive and festive its a must see. And the steaks are incredible. I had a tomahawk ribeye that was melt in your mouth delicious. Though they have changed things a little bit on how you get to select your own cut from the butcher shop, they still allow you to pick it out and it adds to the unique experience this place offers. And their wine menu doesn't break the bank so you can enjoy a nice Cabarnet without having to take out second mortgage.

*NO RESERVATIONS* We tried to reserve for a family member birthday party celebration on a Saturday so we could avoid the wait. No reservations are allowed...at the end, we are still here waiting for 2 hours without the opportunity to sit down for our dinner. I love the place, their food and atmosphere but they could do better on that department. We will skip this place next time, they can stick to the long line of unhappy people waiting. If this system makes the owners happy and this is the way they want to conduct their business so be it.

Update: Still excellent. I strongly recommend going at the holidays. The decorations are beautiful and this restaurant goes above and beyond to decorate. The food here is amazing (except maybe the mac and cheese, that needs some work). Everything else is delicious. This is our go to place for special occasions. I love the filet and the salad bar here but the other steak options are great as well. Select your own steak to add to the experience. ********************* Excellent as always. The filet melts in your mouth. I strongly encourage making reservations. We had one and I am so glad we did. It was an off eating time but they were still crowded. I love the fact that they are still using gloves at the salad bar. It is so nice that they still appreciate safety.

The steak is more of a 3 star rating. The service was very good, although the soup was brought out late. We had a group of 10 and everything was paced out pretty well. The appetizers were probably the best part of the meal. I'm not sure why someone would buy their meat online when you can get much better steak in any real sized city. Overall, I liked it, but not my choice for a truly fine piece of well prepared steak. Also, did not like that their steak did not have an age rating. The "pick your meat" is a bit of a gimmick.

This place provides a very unique steak experience, if nothing else. There is a waiting room with complimentary popcorn, chips, salsa, and soft drinks. Rather than shouting your name or hunting you down, there are digital displays throughout the waiting areas and you just check and see when your number pops up. The wait was about 10 minutes on a Wednesday night, even though they said 45, which is nice. The decor is sort of a more formal rustic. It is very open, with plenty of elbow room. If you get an entree, it comes with the salad bar (or you can pay a minimum of about $11 for that to be your meal). The salad bar was great! There were plenty of toppings, including sun dried tomatoes, which I am a big fan of. Their breads are also good, with my favorite being the cheese roll. The bathroom is kind of neat because they have a one way mirror with a TV on the other side. Now, on to the steak. When you choose the type of steak you want to get, you are led to the back where you can choose the exact slab of meat for your steak. The cooking and preparation was pretty fast, so points there. The meat was cooked to the right temperature and texture (I got a New York strip rare). My steak was tender and juicy, but it was lacking certain qualities to push this place up to five stars. I got my steak with the garlic butter and sizzling plate. What I didn't know was that this means the steak is mostly unseasoned (no salt and pepper crust) and the plate was more just a warm plate than sizzling. The reason this matters is because a sizzling plate kind of implies a nice sear, and that the meat will stay warm throughout the meal. Bottom line: A unique steak dining experience well worth a go at least once. The meat was of good quality, but without any sear or crust, it just lacks that amazing outer texture to push this up another star. I did get a pretty good cheesecake on the house for my birthday!

Taste of Texas always feels like a treat. It has a fancy atmosphere, but the dress code is pretty open from what I have seen people wear. I've been here at least six times in the past, but always to get a soup bowl and the salad bar. The salad bar is the best. Everything is super fresh, and I love that they have huge blocks of cheese that you can scrape yourself. They also have delicious flavored butter to go with their various rolls and breads. Even just getting their salad bar feels pretty worth it, at $12, because it is a quality salad bar. This was my first time trying their steak. We went for my boyfriend's birthday. To treat him, we ordered their most expensive steak to share. It's a 38 oz tomahawk steak with a huge 14 inch bone included for just under $80, including a side and unlimited trips to the salad bar for one person. It was nice that they split the steak onto two plates for us. We ordered medium rare. My boyfriend took the piece with the huge bone and was very happy as he ate it. He said it melts in your mouth. When I looked at my half, I was a little concerned by how not-pink it looked for a medium rare steak. And as I ate my first four bites, it definitely tasted like more of a medium - chewy and a little under flavored. For how much the steak was priced and for how popular this place is for fancy steaks, I was very underwhelmed. BUT what redeemed it for me was their service. I hate complaining to restaurant staff, but I didn't want to pay that much for a not-enjoyable meal, so I informed my waitress that the steak was too cooked. She was so kind and accommodating. She took the steak back and offered a 16oz new ribeye to replace my half, with a new side dish. The new one came out about 10 minutes later (encouraging me that it was cooked fresh and with care), and it was delicious and perfectly cooked!!! The manager also came out during my wait for the new steak to apologize, which was nice. For birthdays, they bring out this huge dessert display platter with all their desserts (their real desserts, not fake ones!) and let the birthday person pick one. They bring a fresh one out later with a cool sparkler candle. All their desserts are delicious. They also take a photo of you with your dessert and print it to give you in a nice little Taste of Texas paper frame. It is a pretty popular place, and their dinner time often has a wait. It wasn't too bad when we went, though. We went on Tuesday at 7pm and it took about 15 minutes for a group of 9. The awesome part about that is their waiting lounge. They have a large room to the side by the restaurant entrance, with many tables. The room is stocked with a soda machine, a popcorn machine, and hot fresh chips with salsa - all complimentary. Another neat part is that you get to pick your steak. After we ordered, the waitress took us on a little field trip to the back. She took out a few steaks from each cut that we ordered and let us choose our desired steak, with different marbling.

Also with your order, you are given the opportunity to personally select your cut of steak or just leave it to the waiter. Service is ultra luxury, what you's expect from this type of steak house. We went there around 4:30. Luckily, and we got table almost immediately. We ordered t-bone and cowboy ribeye. And the three ounce filet for the little kids. They forgot to send the little kids meal with ours. But after we asked them, both the waiter and the manager came to apologize and send the meal (it is not hot anymore, but it’s not too bad) and took care of that meal. Overall, I think both their service and meat are great. However, the salad bar is definitely mediocre.

Rude hostess at the front. Otherwise everything else is perfect. Salad bar was phenomenal. Steaks were on point. Prices are very reasonable. The bathrooms are pretty unique. I highly recommend trying the tomahawk steak with their blue cheese butter. They gave us a free slice of snickers chocolate cake for my husband's birthday and it was really good. We'll definitely go back here.

Love going to this place for a nice evening out. We usually go for our anniversary in November and it is always decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations. We went for my birthday this year and it’s just as beautiful. Love the salad bar with tons of options. I tired the salmon this time instead of a steak and I was not disappointed. It was a nice change if you are craving something besides a steak. Had the key lime pie for dessert and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Will definitely be back for many more celebrations.

Taste of Texas has an ample selection of steaks, including hamburger 🍔 as well, or you can just go for the salad bar if you're Vegetarian. Service is friendly, polite and cheerful, and if the server is unsure about a specific preparation of food, they'll get the info. This time I had their burger, half a pound, and comes with steak fries. You better have an appetite for this burger as you will not leave hungry. Parking is ample as well. Give it a try.!!

This place sets the bar! Hands down the best steakhouse and customer service in Houston. Order the center cut filet and bacon wrapped, with garlic butter. You will not be disappointed! The large salad bar comes with the steak, and it has homemade bread with cinnamon butter. You must try! My wife wanted to celebrate our December birthdays here because of the christmas decorations. We arrived at 2:30pm. There was not a wait. Ivan our server greeted us. He is a professional. He has an indepth knowledge of the menu. My wife ordered the pecan crusted stuffed chicken and I ordered the 16 ounce ribeye. Not only did I order the ribeye, Ivan escorted me to the meat counter where I selected the cut of meat. Your steak is given a metal tag with a number so you can identify it when it is delivered to the table. It is the best tasting steak I have ever eaten. We also had the apple dumplings and pecan pie with Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream for birthday dessert, HEAVENLY !!!

Awesome. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. They did an amazing job with the waitstaff and the food was top notch. We decided to split a Tomahawk steak (something we heard the table next to us doing) and it was great. Definitely enough food for the both of us. We also visited the salad bar which had a great selection of vegetables, dressings, bread, and other assorted sides. Pro tip: eat out on a Thursday night and have a much faster seating time. Today is Saturday we arrived at 357 and waited about an hour to be sat which is exactly what we were quoted. During the wait you can order appetizers and drinks. Or as an added bonus they have FREE chips and salsa, pop corn, soda fountain, and tea. Y'all have no idea how polite and friendly the staff is, seriously they put Chick Fil A to shame! We had the smoked brie, stuffed mushroom caps, tomahawk steak, cowboy steak, herb marinated chicken, porterhouse, and Oscar's filet, Megan's macaroni and cheese, loaded baked potato, potato augratin, creme brulee, pecan pie, and the chocolate mousse. Our steaks were sliiiightly over cooked and being a 70 dollar porterhouse we were a tad disappointed. We were comped deserts for the inconvenience. Lewis! You were an AMAZING server and we couldn't of asked for more! Sorry for all the complications! We really enjoyed our visit because you made it so comfortable! Choose this place for a cute date, a celebration, an anniversary, prom, anything it's a great choice. And my little greeny heart loves them even more because they have PAPER STRAWS ♥️ We always love our visits! Keep up the fabulous customer service, elegantly rustic decor, and amazing staff!

We had an amazing experience! It was our 1st time coming here and we saved it for a special anniversary date night. When we arrived the hostess kindly let us know it would be about a 30 minute wait, with it being a Sunday night and a holiday it was expected. However, we were seated in under 10 mins! Our server, Armando O. was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our food arrived quickly, the ribeye was cooked perfectly and tasted PHENOMENAL!!! When we finished our meal, we were given the choice for a dessert that came complete with a sparkler! Before we left they gave us a cute thank you card with our picture in it! Was happy to see the salad bar was available, the ranch dressing was perfect and the Asiago bread was a nice compliment to the salad and fruit options. Only suggestion I have is that the waiter could have been more vocal about going to the salad bar. A couple in my party split a large steak, because they split it only one of them could go to the salad bar at no cost. No problem with that, it's just always nice to know things ahead of time.

When asked for recommendations he didn't steer straight to the highest priced items, and he gave his personal opinion of what he liked. We had the Texas Quail Bites to start, really good. Then our table ordered and picked out steaks. This was definitely the funnest part of the night, being back with the butcher to pick out a steak. Folks in our group liked the Salad Bar, I enjoyed the Jalapeno corn bread and shave your own cheese. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were great. I had the Brussels sprouts with bacon jam. One of the best I've had in a long time. The dessert was good, a decent variety. Taste of Texas is on my list of return visits when I come back to Houston.

Steaks, salad bar, breads, and cold beer are all excellent here. Excellent old Texas history museum dining experience. Excellent staff and service. Managers come by often to see how your doing. I could pay double the price for dining without hesitation because the overall experience here is that excellent. I went here for my birthday because it is one of my favorite steak places. The steak was so juicy and tender. We picked out our steak and added garlic butter on top. I got mash potatoes and my friend chose au gratin. Best au gratin I've had in Houston! It comes with unlimited visits to the salad bar, which also has bread. The cheesy bread is my fav. *Drool* The butter could be better. They took my picture with their camera and gave me the photo and a dessert of my choice for free. I chose the snickers cheesecake and I can't stop thinking about it. I would go back for more dessert if it weren't a 45 minute drive from me. Lol. I'll be back for the prime rib roast. Oh the crostini and dip is complimentary as well. Two steaks, cake slice, and one coke cost $140. Worth it every time.

I had the Atlantic salmon, it was NOT fresh, no buttery bliss point for $38. The salad bar was in a salad room full of people, as crowded any Lubys at rush hour (we were there at 6pm). The male waiters were in vests that made them look like croupiers at a casino and the whole vibe was of a grandaddy Steak n Ale, past it's prime. Among the reviews it was touted as family/kid friendly AND romantic, naw, can't be both. My wife's salmon salad was the way to go. It's ingredients were not well represented in the salad room and we're fresher. Everything was rudely over priced.

If you go on a busy day like we did expect to wait over an hour. We were told it was going to be a 1:15-1:45 min wait. We waited just barely over an hour. They were passing around small appetizers and offering drinks while waiting which was nice. Enjoyed scenic landscaping with a covered area for seating. Service was good and wait staff was friendly. Our meal came with the salad bar. Salad bar came with a large variety of options including cheese and bread (cheese rolled buns were freaking awesome). Don't fill up on salad, the steaks are generously cut and cooked like you like it (can't speak for all steaks we only been there once). It was my birthday and we got free dessert (out of many options) and a picture taken right away with a lit sparkler. We ordered the key lime pie which is the best key lime pie I have ever had at this point. It was huge! The cappuccino was good as well. Will go back for the dessert and another steak.

What an amazing dinner! Everything about this dining experience was fantastic! Our waiter Luis was always attentive and looking for ways to be of service! We started with drinks and appetizers, getting the stuffed mushroom caps and the brie cheese. Both of them were beyond delicious! The salad bar was fresh and they had four attendance constantly making sure that everything was stocked. FOUR! The three types of bread and giant bricks of fresh cheese were amazing! Then, our main courses arrived! We chose a couple different steaks, center cut and the t-bone, with garlic mashed potatoes! All of us agreed it was the best steak dinner we had ever had collectively. Finally, the three of us split a piece of their carrot cake. Not only was it moist and criminally good, between the three of us we did not even finish the one piece! I would highly recommend this establishment and was very pleased with the genuine effort by many of the staff to make sure that we had a pleasant experience!

Let me preface this with a bit of background info. My wife's family has been dining at Taste of Texas during the Christmas holidays for over 30 consecutive years. My wife and I were the first to arrive at 3:20 pm. We are a large party that has only gotten larger in the last 10 years. We have 19 in our group, but since COVID we have sat at a table of 10 and a table of 9 (we're totally fine with it, kids at one table, adults at the other). Our two "reservations" were quoted at 3 to 4 hours. To be transparent, a twosome getting a table next to us were quoted 1 to 2 hours. We found our way into the bar/waiting area as her family began to arrive. Upon submitting your name and phone number for your seating you immediately receive a text that allows you to check your place in the queue. Initially the seating window was between 6:20 and 7:20. The service in the bar area was good. Jess, the bartender, held her own with a packed house. Our first group was seated around 6:15, and the second group was seated at 6:30. Our servers were a couple of gentlemen (the adult table server was Chipper) and were fantastic. The salad bar was sensational as always, and everyone seemed to enjoy their different cuts of steak. I was able to get a medium rarish end cut prime rib (not a very common occurrence), and my wife said her 10oz filet was quite good. Aside from the lengthy wait time (my BIL tried to make reservations, but between home and driving to work that morning two weeks prior, they had booked all of the seating times that were appropriate for our party) this remains a highlight of our holiday season, and one we hope to continue for many years. To be fair to some of the guests in our group, it was the first time that there was hesitation on waiting the full duration, or returning next year/going forward. Hopefully ToT can streamline their ability to seat larger parties.

Nice restaurant with a great ambiance and steaks if you have the time to spare! Since they don't do reservations, get there early! We honestly wouldn't have come at all if we weren't entertaining guest from Japan. Though we had to wait almost an hour at an early dinnertime, at least we could wait inside and look at some interesting decor. When we were seated, we were served promptly and taken to select our steaks from fresh cuts of meat. They were tagged and cooked appropriately and served nicely. The choice of sides is great and they do have Japanese menus. Overall it was a great experience that we enjoyed with friends, but make sure everyone has the patience to wait 30-60 minutes for dinner!

Wow you definitely get what you pay for. Like any "fancier" steakhouses, you get good food, generous portions, friendly service. But what sets it apart is... 1. Decor - simply put, it's very Texan. 2. Experience - staff is extra friendly, greeting you at every turn, they literally walk you through everything and you can even pick your steak. Very fun and unique. If you want to celebrate something big, you should go here. *Pictured: center-cut filet with complementary bacon wrapped around cooked medium.

The service is pretty good. A server in training, Tony, is attentive throughout the night. Although they need more detail training on the procedure. I order a wine flight. And all 3 glasses were on the wrong spot on top of the piece of paper. Pinot, Cab and Malbec. For the food. The prime rib is great. Properly one of the best I've ever had. But adding on the lobster tail was a mistake. It's way overcooked. It's like eating rubber. The crab cake is little bit on the salty side. And they put too much mayo sauce on top that over power the taste of the whole dish. I know it was kind of late at night(around 9:30pm), some random server just pop up behind me and ask if I want a Togo box to pack up the rest of the food. This is not acceptable for me while I'm still eating with the dinner folk in my hand. So my suggestion is to get there earlier if you don't want to get rush out of your dinner. Might go back sometime but not gonna be my first choice.

I'm a vegetarian, so you would think I would hate this place, but....they have a darn good salad bar, which is included with their delicious vegetable plate. And don't even get me started on their desserts! Also, the waitstaff treats you like royalty.

Came in based on reviews from the internet and wasn’t disappointed. All steaks and lobster dinners come with salad bar and choice of side which was a nice surprise. Great value for the $$$. Bartender was knowledgable and gave good recommendations. Would definitely come again.

First time to Houston. I saw that Taste of Texas was highly recommended via several review sites/articles. The staff was excellent and friendly. The quality of the beef was excellent, expansive salad bar, wine/liqour selection limited. I had the bone-in ribeye, with roasted brussel sprouts, and the salad bar. To echo the online reviews, I highly recommend Taste of Texas for any carnivores visiting Houston.

I went here for my birthday back in June and wish I would of left a review sooner. It was the best restaurant experience I have ever encountered! Not only was the service absolutely perfect but the food was incredible! I got a delicious birthday dessert as well as she took our picture and gave it to me in a Taste of Texas birthday card. Excellent steaks that are worth the price. My entire family of 4 was impressed with the steaks, even my picky teenage daughter. For dessert we the Slice Of Heaven and Snickers Pie (I think it's called). They were both very good as well. The staff is courtious, fast and very attentive but not overly much.

We had the salad bar and soup. The salad bar was delicious! They also had fruit, different breads, butters and jellies for the breads. After the salad, we had the soup. I ordered the baked potato soup and my husband ordered the chicken tortilla soup. He loooved his soup! I really enjoyed mine as well. The only issue was that there were waayyy to many green onions. It's as though someone got happy with the green onions and was like I need you to KNOW that there are green onions in this soup. They were so fresh that I could've sworn that they went into their backyard and brought them back fresh. I truly love onions, but this was TOO much. I simply scooped out my heaping helping of the green onions, and the rest of them that had sank to the bottom, and proceeded to eat my soup. It was quite tasty, minus the extra onions that must have spilled over into the soup. It was a small mistake, I'll definitely be back and WILL order the soup again, toppings on the side! "Waiter, light on the onions please." 😉

Had a 20 minute wait on a Tuesday night. I liked that they let me choose my rib eye cut since I prefer a marbled slab of beef over lean. Excellent service. The steak is pricey and only comes with one side but the salad bar is a great plus. I think there can be a better choice of sides for the price you pay so I took a star off for that. I take frequent business trips to H-Town so this was a good new find for me though.

Amazing experience.. We were served by Jesse who let us select our meat, took nice pictures, gave us cowboy hats and let us quiet an experience.. The food was on point - the steak was super tasty and the Salat bar was massive! Can only recommend this place to all meat lovers!!
