Reviews of Mandola's Deli
Shannon Bedo
Met a friend for lunch, and this place is what I love about Houston… just regular people serving amazing food to regular people. Coffee was great (and I’m picky). Mufalatta was on fresh French bread. Fried mozzarella was delicious. I’d come back here again. Service was excellent.

Mandola's Deli had been a favorite of mine for a long time. I had the delight of working for the East End a while back and got to know the treasure trove of culture and food it is and has historically been. Having said that, don't sleep on Mandola's. Go. Often and always for your Italian food fix!
We had lasagna, eggplant parm, chicken marsala, a cheeseburger, and some great Italian wedding cookies. Everything was delicious. I always get the lasagna and I am always convinced its the best I have had.
The portions are as they have always been at Mandola's - big enough to fill the belly and maybe a little left over for later - depending on how hungry you are. The garlic bread is buttery heaven and top that all off with the service. I hesitate to call it just service - its hospitality. Like being invited into the Mandola home to eat, talk, and share some laughs.
Our experience at Mandola's has always been like that, going to a friends house to eat and catch-up. Way back when, the soda fountain was behind the counter and we were always told to come around the counter for refills if we wanted too. Like going to see your family and friends for a meal - that help yourself vibe makes great food even better and we can't wait to go back.

Super great place I had no idea was right by my house! Amazing hot fresh food, I grabbed mine to go. I had the chicken parm & pasta with a half Margherita pizza. The pizza crust was the perfect combo of soft and crispy, baked to perfection with the flavors I’d hope for! My 1yr old son and I shared the chicken parm and this is the first time I heard him say “mmmmm” ever haha it was delicious! He finished his whole plate. The marina sauce isn’t too overpowering it’s just right without doing too much, I enjoyed this plate and will definitely like to try more items. The restaurant itself is super clean and nice inside, and the customer service is super great the guy that helped me with my pick up order was fast, made sure I had what I needed, and was super cool! I’ll definitely be back!

I LOVE Mandola's sandwiches! They are so delicious. I ordered the muffaletta and it was flavorful and filling. My friend ordered a turkey sandwich and fries but was not a fan of the thin lunch meat but everyone has their own preferences. My other friend ordered chicken parm and it looked great and he cleaned the plate so I am assuming it was delicious!
Anthony Garz
Was good! But I think my expectations were way too high. Ambiance is perfect -- old-school deli with quick service and friendly staff. I had the muffaletta deluxe -- the olive spread was great, but sandwich overall was just fine. Reasonably priced at $12. Wouldn't come here again for the sandwiches, but would maybe give the Italian food a try.

My husband has been going here For YEARS at lunchtime when he worked downtown. And Finally I got to see why!
The food was absolutely amazing! I had the white bean soup that was out of this world. If you are a fan of chicken noodle this is a fantastic Italian sausage rendition.
I also had the eggplant Parmesan, which was amazing! The Parmesan was pounded extremely flat, and the breading and cheese layers were to perfection!
I was able to swap my side for a healthier version of steamed spinach, sautéed with garlic and olive oil. The garlic bread was amazing. Everyone else just loved their meals. Huge portions! No one goes hungry.
RUBIEH KENNY
This is the best Italian restaurant in Houston.
I love their sauce, they have the best lasagna and spaghetti 🍝 with meat balls, and the dessert is so delicious too I highly recommend it.
Joseph Rera
My wife and I wanted our wedding to be full on UH and what better place to pick for a caterer! The serving staff were as professional as the food was delicious. It was also very budget friendly for us. We had a lot of guests from out of town and almost all of them raved about the dinner.
Rod Keels
I noticed this restaurant on a trip to the Krogers on Polk St. I ordered the spaghetti & marinara with meatballs. The serving size was ample, but the marinara sauce lacked enough Italian seasonings such as oregano, basil, thyme, etc. Garlic bread was served on the side - only three small pieces.
Cynthia Specht
Great catering! Set up for an after funeral gathering was done easily, quickly and to the best standards. James was so helpful with the set up and made sure we had everything we needed to feed funeral guests. Food was delicious and everything was perfect. Great attention to detail. Would recommend and call on for future catering needs.

My wife picked up some food from here tonight and it was probably the best Italian I’ve had in Houston. We are from Philly and My family is Italian so I’m used to being able to go anywhere and get a decent eggplant parmigiana but that isn’t been the case in Tx.
Anyway the Eggplant was delicious. We got the Margarita Pizza which was excellent, the Mozzarella sticks which were also great.
Unfortunately we also ordered a spinach lasagna but it came as a meat lasagna so we were unable to taste that dish. But we called and they said we could pick up a spinach tomorrow so I’ll update once I’ve had it.
In conclusion, it’s really really good. Reminds me of being back home in the east coast stopping at a corner deli. Great food!
Rob Hoffman
Each time our family asks me to make pasta and sugo, we get Mandola’s Italian sausage and Sicilian-Style pizza. Best in town !! (and my wife and her family are Sicilian).
Albert Michalec
Looks like a place that has been around for a long time. People were friendly. Food was just ok. Had a pizza, Grilled Cheese, spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread. Split in 2 the bill $25. It was all good enough but nothing was great. I probably would not eat there again.
renegadegeeK
Lively little family joint. Can’t believe I’ve never dropped by before as it’s a true neighborhood gem. We were there for lunch and enjoyed the white bean soup and Italian grilled cheese. Had some Olive salad to start and it was yummy...I really liked the celery and carrots n it and wished it had a little more of them. We bought some pecan sandies as a sweet finish and they are just like my grandma used to make. PS - the bread on the grilled cheese was perfect. All n all a great meal for the price n a neat old cafe.
Angela Braden
My family has been eating at Mandola's for over 30 years. The food is hands down the best in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is kept so clean and very relaxed. If you're in the area.... THIS is where you need to eat lunch! The marinara is made from scratch every morning from Frank's personal recipe. The food is fresh and delicious! You can't go wrong with any thing on the menu.
Shannon Flores
I live in Eado and have driven by this place almost on a daily basis. I have wanted to try it. It does not look like much from the outside but just do yourself a favor and stop in. I had the lasagna and pizza. They were both so fresh and homemade taste. Joseph was at the register was a super nice guy and very inviting to come back. We will be back it was delicious!!!
Brian Witt
1st time trying. I got the turkey muffuletta, a canolli and potato salad to try out. Over all the taste was ok. I'll try something else next time but I think I was over charged.
Those three items were close to 26 dollars.
Update: Looking at the prices here, my order should have been around 18-19 dollars.
They do not match the prices listed on their actual website. There are considerable price differences. Almost 7 dollars for the canolli. I did not realize the difference until after getting home.
It would be a good idea to either remove the menu and prices or match them to your website
Maxime Beauchemin
Fantastic food, friendly staff, this place just feels like home.
Definitely worth stopping in and trying their well-executed Italian classics.
Julie E
This restaurant has a family friendly atmosphere because it is family owned and operated. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. The cookies are homemade and SO good, the cakes are all delicious as well and homemade. I am on a diet so I ordered grilled chicken with veggies, but rest assured, my friend ordered spaghetti and homemade meatballs and they looked very good.
Israel
Top-notch authentic Italian food. This is a must stop in Houston. Great service. Tasty food. The cannolis are out of this world!
Santiago Casas
Delicious. Clean. Friendly employees. Great service. Fairly priced. 10/10 would return and eat here again!
Claudia Penney
Were in the area and my partner said we should eat here. He said hadn't been there in like 20 years. Food was amazing, flavorful, great portions. The staff was incredible sweet and attentative. This place is what home style is all about ! After 20 years they are still in business and the food is as great as it ever was

Mandola's is one of those little neighborhood places that everyone in the know says the same thing about, 'oh man are they great, you have to eat here. Well i took the advice and now my wife and I usually dine in twice a month now. Nice, low-key atmosphere. Come in, hit the line, place your order, grab a table, you do your chit chatting, and before you know it: BAM. Im staring down at my shrimp po-boy and a roast beef sandwich. Those aren't your thing, alright. There's a ton of different things on the menu to choose from, but I do have to say the Italian food might be their forte'. Worth checking out for sure.
Christopher K.
I had the chicken parmigiana, hubby had the spaghetti. They were both very good and the chocolate cake was delicious! Joe Mandola and his crew were on point- Mary was very friendly. A very good lunch!
Lee Lastovica
Great food served by friendly people. Today I had the deluxe, which is always a good bet. Look for the daily specials as well. Not a bad item on the menu.
PETER THOMAS
Always a favorite. I enjoy coming here with my family or during work for lunch. Good service and great food. 5 Stars!
Sam Adamo
Absolutely the best authentic Italian cuisine at the most reasonable prices, Frank and his crew are the best and make you feel at home!
Jonathon Viningre
Always are warm welcoming experience. Food is always great. A must try when in town.
Brent Berridge
I love the deli. The food is fantastic and the staff friendly, especially Lisa.
Janet Hall
Food is generally excellent but not so much this time. The owner's son was cranky and it just made for a bad vibe.
Khang Tran
Very nice little Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere. You can tell it's family owned and very customer friendly. There are these cute little old ladies working in the back helping to make your delicious food. I had the Pasta Mandola and liked it. The chicken was very good! Would recommend!
Jai Guzman
Fast service and no lines. You get a warm welcome from Houston's own soup Natzi. Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was good and will get again.
Erick Islas
We stopped by for dinner with the family. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is warm. The food was flavorful and hot. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
Les Pallett
I've been going here for 40 years. I always get the Super Deluxe sandwich. I also order a large lasagna every year for Christmas. Tell Frank I said hello.
SurfWarr
Great place, fantastic food. Friendly service with a smile all produce is fresh on heated in a real oven.
Texas Hog Catchers
Amazing deli!
Old family atmosphere and fantastic food.
Sharon Guzman
My lasagna was too much to finish but was good...yea I'd go back
Patrick Vaillancourt
Amazing (authentic) deli. Great meatball sub and Italian Sausage to go!
David Smith
Old school Italian on the east side of town. The best! Family owner and operated. Absolutely one of my favorites. My first time guests are always surprised that they didn't know about it before.
Andres Ortega
Attentive & courteous staff! Try their Pizza And homemade sausage!
Larry Snider
Always a Delicious place to get out of the wet and cold!!!
M!ka3lla Barr3ra
This was our first time here. Even though, we've lived in the area for 20 plus years. The staff was friendly and helpful in our food decision making. The decor was awesome old school-vintage. Parking was easy and doesn't require paying. We had three different dishes Meat lasagna, Chicken Parmesan, and Chicken Marsala. The dishes we had were mediocre. I try this place one more tine but I would try something different next time.
RICHARD GUILLEN
Very good tasting salad and sandwich, and fast service
Jay van Gelder
Great place to get a sandwich (half milefrommy shop). Everyone is always polite and the sandwich will always be great. Order of fries is really entertaining for 2 people.
Debra Welsh
They are frickn awesome. I was raised in an Italian family the food is genuine and taste great. Nice family feel and you won't be disappointed. Loved it
ross lienau
God teir Italian food. Wonderful food.
david bailey
AWESOME food!
Great service.
Mark K
The restaurant has a friendly, old school family vibe to it. We went for lunch and had an eggplant parmessan sandwich, the meat lasagna and a deluxe poboy. The servings sizes were big and verything tasted great, especially the lasagna. We also had a couple of cookies made in the shape of the U of H Coogs paw hand signal.
K D
My bill is always over $2,000 but it’s always worth every penny! (It’s a joke the boss man likes to make.. lol) I’ve been there several times and never once been disappointed. They take you back in time to good memories. Great family owned and operated restaurant. I’ll always recommend and support y’all!
Matthew Laroche
Great “mom and Pop” place. Food was great. I️ had a deluxe po-boy with spaghetti. Well known an frequently visited by locals
katy kedzieski
Love it, but a little pricey.
Well worth it for great food!
Most Saturday go to place for lunch!
Chris McFarland
Should know from the family name that doesn’t disappoint. My first time today and I knew I should have stopped in before this visit. Had the Italian sausage sandwich and tried the classic Italian poboy. Met at the counter by friendly people and made me feel like a regular. Adding this to the list of Houston favorites on the East Side. How I never went here when I attended UH in the 80’s I’ll never know. Great!
Adriana
So delicious i had to eat it asap. The lasagna is amazing and this is the Giovanni just mad delicious.
Erik Young
This place is awesome. I learned about it when I first moved to the area about six years ago. This is now my favorite Italian spot in town. The owners are really nice and the staff is friendly. I also just discovered that my kids love the pizza here, so we'll be picking some up more often.
Madelen Reyes
Friggin amazing, per usual. On the pricey side for sandwiches but the lunch special is always worth it. Good vibes from employees here
Winsly Pierre
Had the Giovanni. Was delicious.
Ryan M
The service here was excellent. The cashier was super friendly and cracking jokes, seemed like a really great guy. They did screw up my order at first but it was quickly fixed. The prices are kind of high, though not unreasonable or anything by any means. You'll be paying more than a place like chipotle but less than any sit down restaurant. The food itself was good, but maybe not quite five star good. I 100% encourage anyone reading this to go see for themselves how much they like it. I doubt you will regret going.
Don Young
This is THE GO TO place to eat before any Houston Cougar athletic event. I have been eating at Mandola's Deli back when it was a hole in the wall over by Hobby Airport. For any Cougar fan who has not been here give it a try and check out all the UH memorabilia on the walls you will not regret it. GO COOGS!!!
Greg Watson
Fantastic! Love this place! Excellent good and wonderful service.
chris herron
1st time going. Food was excellent and the family style service was great!
Shailey Gupta-Brietzke
We have been going here for years, but I never wrote a review until now. We decided to have a 50 person dinner party. We wanted somewhere casual and yummy. We reached out to Mandolas Deli and they were phenomenal. From the first movement we reached out we were in good hands. Joseph and Frank took care of helping us pick a menu, making sure we didn’t over order and figuring out drinks and wine. The dinner went flawlessly and Frank made sure all our guests had a top notch experience. Frank even made sure at the end of the night all the left overs were packed up for us to take home. I cannot recommend them enough. They closed the restaurant for the event and it was the best! Please consider them for your private event or catering or even just for lunch.
carlos ortiz
Great authentic Italian cuisine.
I visit this restaurant at least once a month, and the prices are reasonable.
Clean and spacious and the food is delicious.
Michelle Whitelonis
You can tell this family pours their their heart and soul into their business. The food is delicious and the staff is personable. There is plenty of variety and the atmosphere is casual with plenty of history to decorate the walls. Outdoor seating is available.
James Jackson
Great food. Sandwiches are good but the meals are the way to go. Quick friendly service! Parking lot feels a little small, but only because so many people enjoy the meals. Crowds don't affect the speed or enjoyment of the meal in any negative way. If you are in the area, definitely give this place a try. I bet you'll return.
SATGirl79
Very good. Great service & people! I had lasagna & was very satisfied. Sauce was thick and rich, not too sweet or tangy. Would have liked a basket of bread while waiting. Order & pay at counter, server brings your food.
Merrell Cantu
Sandwiches taste fantastic, especially the Italian roast beef. However, it is incredibly pricey for the quantity. Sandwiches are pretty sparse, and will set you back $10-$14 plus tax for an 8” sandwich alone (no sides) with very little meat.
Lety Caballero
Is delicious was my first time and certainly not my last!
Andrew Robertson
Great atmosphere! Great food! I definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Even if you want somewhere just to meet and snack on stuff. You've definitely found a 💎 amongst many restaurants in Houston. …
Chris S.
Frank, Joseph, and the rest of the staff are always a pleasure to converse with. The service every time I have gone has been extremely pleasant. The food is good, tastes fresh, and will keep me coming back for years to come.
Ana Castro
The spaghetti and sausage is the freakin best!! The side salad was not that great, pretty basic
Ray Ramirez
It place is great,it's family owned n operated. All food is hand made
Kurt Krupitzer
Excellent service and wonderful Italian cuisine. The marinara is absolutely perfect and I’m hooked. I’ve worked down the road from this place for 4 years and never even knew it existed until now. The marinara sauce, meatballs and sausage are perfect. Highly recommend the Giovanni plate.
Harry Vine
Special thanks to Joseph Mandola for a great meal and experience. Will surely return soon.
Joan Isiminger
Friendly staff, great service, delicious chicken marsala and veggies!
Anthony Alvior
Just had lunch here for the first time and I think I'll be returning....several times. Located off of Cullen not far from UH, there is ample parking and the restaurant is a good size. There is even an outdoor patio area for when the weather is nice out. The interior is very old fashioned, but has a nice family restaurant feel. They have a great menu with not so much items that it's difficult to choose something. For starters we ordered the meatballs with garlic bread. The sauce was so good and the meatballs were so soft and juicy and full of flavor. For my meal I ordered the Italian Beef w/Cheese. This is served with something similar to a french dip and the inside also contains Mandola's special Italian spread. Simply amazing! I'll definitely have to revisit to try the other menu items, especially the Fried Lasagna Bites and Mandola’s Italian Sausage & Faccia Di Vecchia. I'm already ready for round two!
Sarita Somosa
This place is def a mom and pop restaurant and it shows. Beginning with the customer service. Theres one guy in particular that takes the orders (probably the owner) thats always very friendly. I recommend everything, subs are good but especially their desserts. Their patio is dog friendly!
Hector Ayala
Great little mom and pop place. Owner was at the check out. Frank is very welcoming and makes you feel as though you are a regular( it was my first time). Food was great.
David Ogletree
This place makes really good food. The cashier guy is a real character.
Robert Gomez
Food is consistently good, especially their eggplant parmesan. The place is nice and welcoming, and the people that work there are just as pleasant. 10/10 recommend for any occasion.
Emilie George
The mouletta was amazing!! Meatball sub was amazing!! The three times I’ve eaten lunch here have all been great so far. I love the staff, it’s always clean and I get my food within 10 minutes or less. I wish I didn’t have to get To-Go every time but this is definitely my new lunch destination! Thanks for the great food ❤️
Aron P
The chicken Royale is a favorite it’s usually my go to meal when I come here can’t really speak too much on the other drinks I’ve only had the strawberry martinis those things are very strong . if you’re there for a good time definitely recommend those
mssillhoutte
My first time at Mandola's, great experience, fresh food, made to order, great customer service, large portions. The food was excellent, loved the soup. I would recommend anyone to try it, you will keep going back for more. Can't wait to visit them again.
Roger Knight
Great customer service and the turkey club and potato salad hit the spot

Whenever I go to an Italian restaurant, I like to try their marinara sauce. I always end up getting disappointed. Because for the most part, I feel like I can make better sauce then the restaurant, and that's sad. For a while I had even given up trying. For some reason, when I walked in at Mandola's, I couldn't think of what to try from all their choices, and so the only words that came out of my mouth were spaghetti and meatballs. Add soon as I said that, I thought to myself, too late... I'm gonna regret this! It didn't take too long. The order, the doubt in my mind to the kitchen, the plate on my table and a fork full of delicious spaghetti goodness in my mouth. Need I say it?... Best sauce ever. I bow down to these guys. I don't know what they put in that sauce, and personally, I don't care. I just love it. The only down side is I live and work far from there, but whenever I'm close, I'll make sure I visit again. I also bought a quart of their Alfredo sauce to try at home.
John Andrews
One of the Best places in EADO to eat. Jeff and his family are really good people Everything on the mean is good enough to try 3 or 4 times. Save the burger for last. I mean once you have gone through the complete menu once.
Locally-owned business Go Out and Support them!
Joseph Daniels
Great Italian food. Staff was friendly and everything on menu looked great. I had Lasagna and will definitely be back.
Ken Heil
Wonderful sandwiches! This longtime locally owned and sports fan deli is a tasty place to grab a meal. The owner is normally there working and talking with visitors. Parking was also easy. Yes, you should stop by.
Peter Robertson
A solid spot for lunch or dinner, with good poboys, pizzas, and desserts. The staff is a friendly mix of family and friends. I've never had a bad experience here and have been quite a bit.
Diana Sanchez
Affordable prices, friendly staff, timely assistance, clean environment! Good food👍🏼👏🏼 …
Tyler W
Great Italian deli that's close to campus. They have room inside and out for friends, intimate dates, or large groups. The spaghetti was great, and all the sides reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The staff was nice and friendly too, I'll be back once I'm on that side of town again.
AJ Martinez
Of all the Italian restaurants I've been in across Houston, Mandola's Deli is the best. Mandola's is NOT Subway. No comparison. REAL Italian food, no joke and highly recommended.
Lynn Nowell
Wonderful chicken salad! Highly recommend! Everyone was friendly and service was fast. Online ordering is easy and they got it correct both times. We liked it so much we picked up food there two days in a row!
B Scott
This deli has been a neighborhood staple for quite a while. I was a kid growing up and it produced good food then and even now! Sandwiches always on point. Customer service is okay. The guy that operates the cash register is a little bit sarcastic. Parking is always tight....but that's because there's always so many people in the house.
Michael
Amazing food.
Huge portions
Ruby McCollough
I was in the area for a training class and ended up here for lunch. The food was great and the staff friendly. I had the italian sausage and white bean soup ,which was really good, with a small salad. I just wish the soup was warmer. I will definitely be back to try another dish or grab more soup.
J Wheeler
Always dine in, they are the best and have a great sandwich!
Paul Willis
Always great service and delicious food.
Mitch Credeur
Best family owned Italian deli in Houston area near U of H
Best menu items are to be honest everything but my two favorite dishes are the Mandola Chicken sub and the Three Cheese grilled cheese
anthony hensley
Food is good, atmosphere is very casual. My wife and I have been a couple of times and they are consistently good.
Susan Brown
I walked in and the place wasn't fancy at all so I was hesitant that it would be heated up food from a box or can. I was completely wrong. Pros one of the best Italian food I've ever had. The garlic bread so light and fluffy. The marinara was rich, sweet with depth and yummy. I had the Mandola pasta. Lasagna bites were light, fluffy and delicate. The 8th wonder beer was a great pairing. When I'm in the area I will definitely eat here again!
darrell bowe
we worked downtown for many years and had a doctor's appointment back downtown and decided to see if mandolas was still in business. I ordered the Italian sub sandwich that my wife and I always ate and it was just as good as it was 20 years ago. Nice to know some things have not changed.
William Peterson
Good food and friendly atmosphere
Cassie Collier
This place is amazing! I had the chicken Parmesan sandwich and my husband had spaghetti and meatballs. We were both beyond impressed with our food and even more impressed by the quick (even though they were very busy) and EXTREMELY friendly service. We will definitely be back!
Deb Roth
Joseph and Frank are great! We had my son and daughter-in-laws rehearsal dinner here and the food was wonderful! Great friendly service. Enjoyable evening.
Jerome Freiberg
I have been going to Mandola's once a week for many years. Its the best Italian food in Houston. Frank and his team makes the place feel like home away from home. Frank remembers your name. It reminded me of the T.V. show Cheers. A place where everyone knows your name and they are glad you came.
It's a real unique place near the UH main campus off Lealand. Cheers!
Van Nguyen
The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming to UH students, especially the cashier. It is a good amount of food for the price. The spaghetti with Italian sausage that I had was delicious! Definitely will be coming back
Michael Twa
Lasagna is terrific. Chicken Parmesan great too. Really good comfort food from family who treat you right and always willing to go the extra mile. Toured the kitchen once, clean place. That sort of attention to detail matters to me.
David Villalobos
Always a fantastic experience. The staff are very friendly and hospitable, no matter how busy it is at that moment. The quality and taste of the meals they prepare are amazing.
Terry Pettijohn
We discovered this place a few years ago. It is a wonderful place. The owner is a hoot and the food is great. We love the Pasta Thomas. It is off the beaten path but well worth the search.
Marsha L
Food was full of flavor! Customer service is on point. And the spot was so homey. Very vintage feel to it. Will definitely go back. It was a bit pricey though.
S. Sugarbaker
Our fav Italian spot. I go here on cheat days.
Edit. Came in today (party of 7) with some fam that just moved to San Antonio from North Carolina. They loved it too. A a pleasure and great food as always.
Jesse Vasquez
Our first time there, really good food and the service was good as well, we will be back.
Les
This is an old school Italian deli that are pretty rare these days. Food was familiar and comforting. We ate traditional spaghetti and meatballs and chef salad and would order both of them again. Lots of Houston sports memorabilia to look at while waiting for your order. I'm glad we finally stopped by.
Charity Connealy
We first came here a little over 2 years ago and have gone back numerous times. Everyone who says the food is bland is wrong and a poboy is suppose to be messy. Everything I have ordered has been great! Also Joe the owner is a hoot! Goes out of his way to make sure everything is great!
Will continue to go here and use them for catering events.
S. Howard
Mandola's Deli is my favorite lunch/dinner comfort food in Houston. Deliciously crafted sandwiches, entrees, amazing desserts, and wonderful staff at this family owned/operated shop. If you love Italian food, this should be a regular haunt.
Veronica Zarate
Love the spaghetti irs delicious. The ranch dressing is one of the best I have tasted. Employees are nice. Lay back atmosphere. Nice little place.
Elizabeth Campo
Favorite Italian restaurant in Houston! I love the chicken mandola sandwich! The staff is very friendly, the service is quick, and the food is delicious.
Jessica Morgenstern
Yum! Love the food! Somewhat pricey but very tasty. Has a parking lot. Many options with some take home stuff to bring dinner home. Staff are always very friendly and helpful, u order at counter and they bring ur food to you. Get silverware on ur own, etc. 5 star for food, 4 due to cafeteria feel.
Jenn Chavis
So we had a 25th work anniversary party for an employee, and went on the hunt for a resturant to cater. I put in a call to Mandola's and spoke with Joseph. He worked with us on delivery times and was even really accomidating when we had to delay the date to a week later. The food was a hit and the service was great. The delivery (by Joseph) was on time and the personal service (set up) was great. Our employee was very happy and so was the rest of the staff!
D Frizz
The food is so good to me ... My fav spaghetti n Italian sausage ... They could do better on the garlic bread though by giving BIGGER pieces .. And a bit more sausage would b nice too ... But I luv the place

I ordered the Super Deluxe sandwich. By no means could you label that sandwich a “Super Deluxe”. It was about the size of a small Jimmy Johns sandwich of which is of similar quality. Taste was good, but I was disappointed in the portion size. My wife and kids rated their grilled chicken sandwich as mediocre. Unfortunately, after reading all the rave reviews we were disappointed. I understand they have other Italian fare on the menu but we could not order everything. But, I did notice from the surrounding tables the portion size/price relation was unsatisfactory for me at least. I don’t think we will be returning.

Great service, every customer was greeted. The young women behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful when ordering. We ordered several sandwiches and each was excellent. We will definitely be back.
Omar Delafuentes
Calling this place good would be in insult. It is absolutely phenomenal!!! And I'll tell you why. Plain and simple, the people here love every aspect of what they do... From taking your order, to serving your food, to coming from around the counter to hug an old regular. It's simply divine here...
Samuel Swirsky
Good food. I thought that the lunch prices were on the high side for a casual deli. The bathroom was clean. I know it's a little thing but I appreciated the water lever in the soda machine instead of that annoying tab at most places.
Rick Evans
First time there today for lunch!! Awesome Muffaletta Combo Sandwich!!
John Price
Great place to grab a quick lunch. The price is a little high for the quality but this place is a neighborhood institution so I let it slide. If you are a fan of University of Houston sports, this is a must-visit spot.
Cynthia Owens
Italian deli for lunch, will start with the best, desert "Chocolate Delight" Nut crust, light Chocolate thin pudding with whipped cream topping. Started with garlic bread and Deviled Eggs, soup was Navy Bean with Sausage (too salty). Prices reasonable and will return.
Jacob Galles
Great food and customer service. Family run business that is truly part of the community. Great place to stop in for a sandwich, pasta, or even dessert. They have a takeout menu as well if you want to bring premade meals home.
GregR R
The spaghetti was good, the pasta served al dente. The wait was very long (more than 30 minutes to get my food from the time I walked in the door) at lunch, though, and I don't believe they're open late for a true dinner, which would be nice. But it is nice to have a decent Italian place in the East End.
Terri Harris
Homey, welcoming, and the multiple TV's and wine and beer offerings would make this a great place to watch the game. Walk-up counter service with a dizzying offering of sandwichs, salads, pasta dishes and decadent desserts. Carryout or dine-in. Delicious Italian sausage and flavorful meatballs made in-house, try the Pasta Giovanni, which features both, with a side of spaghetti. Lots of regulars queue up for lunch. This place will send you out full, and smiling!
MJM
This is much more than an Italian Deli. It's like eating in an Italian family's kitchen with the whole family for lunch or dinner. Everyone from the person who takes your order to the person who delivers food to your table is helpful and happy. The food was terrific: I had the chicken Mandola po'boy. My wife had pasta fagiol and an eggplant po'boy. We took tomato basil soup to our daughter at work. We met one of the family at the register - with a big smile he welcomed us as first timers and said they opened in 1975, what took so long for us to get there?
What a fun place for great food and great service and great atmosphere. We will return again.
Michael Chaney
Best deli in Houston! Hidden gem that I'm suprised many people have not been to. Been going here for years, consistent quality every time. Super deluxe po boy is my favorite. Love supporting local business!
Michelle Lacap
Friendly staff and delicious food. Our go to for authentic Italian food. My favorites are the Chicken Parmesan with alfredo pasta, deviled eggs and the heavenly chocolate delight for dessert.
Tom Jones
Mandola's is a staple restaurant for people attending or working at the University of Houston. The food is inexpensive and very good. I love the sandwiches and the lasagna. The owner is almost always there checking people out and giving attitude. A real slice of Houston restaurant history for Houston.
Rose Hinojosa
Started with the Chicken Mandola Po' Boy and now we're here.
Every time I go to Mandola's Deli I order something different, just because I know I'll love it & half the menu later, I haven't been let down yet. AND the service is phenomenal. Joseph always puts a smile on your face and happiness in your belly.
Places like this, is why Houston is looked to for its restaurant scene. You have to go!
Walt L
They treat you like family and make the best subs. A Houston delicacy.
J Coy Wheeler
One our favorites. I've been going here for a couple of decades. Fantastic meatball poboy, homemade meatballs with that tomato gravy! All the sandwiches are tasty and the friendly staff make it a great place.
Corporate Gypsy
If you think that you can buy deli here. You are wrong. They are a cross between a restaurant and a sandwich parlour. As I went there looking for Italian Deli, I did not have the time to try any of their dishes. But those who were dining there that Sunday midday looked content. The owner (Frank?) told me that he was a third generation Italian-American. One day, I am going to go and have brunch in his place.
Freddie Thompson
Best Cannelloni Florentina ever! Authentic, crazy fresh Italian food. So good!! Their bread and dipping oil is amazing and I love the vibe of the place! Will be coming back soon.
Jerry Mason
Have been eating there for 25 years. Enjoy every thing on menu.
Ashley Ray
Food was amazing. Met the owner Frank and talked to him about his 8th Wonder beers. Really cool guy, simple and delicious food. Definitely my only go-to from now on for Italian food.
Cindy Deister
A Houston ICON on the east side of Downtown (Greater Eastwood) that is totally worth the drive if you don't live close. The Mandola family works hard to provide delicious food and great service. Lots of family and Houston history in photos cover the paneled walls - this is a laid-back place. Dine-in and grab-and-go options are available, and hours are limited, so plan ahead if visiting Downtown. All of the food is amazing, and the desserts are musts. Try the layered delight! 👍🏻👍🏻
Vincent Glocksien
I always like the food here. Quiet place (it is busy with customers but staff leaves you alone). Good family traditional food. I like to come here when I am on this side of town.
Inga Berryman
This was my first time here. I got the veggie po boy and it was AMAZING!!! Definitely recommend it to anyone. The bread was soft the veggies fresh and the spread they put on it is delicious. Definitely worth a try!! #LocalGuides
Chris Smith
This is a great family owned restaurant. They are good people! They have excellent pasta salad and their sandwich's are superb! The bread is delicious. I highly recommend this place!
Bill / Sandra Hlavacek
I love this deli! The service is great and the food is great,! I have had Mandola's cater several of my parties and they've done a wonderful job. I'll be using them again soon!
Michael Aswell Sr.
Mandola's Deli off of Leland and Carlin is an aardvark here in the second war. The best service they treat everybody like family the best food on this side of town.!! They love are you of H cougars and are Texans and Houston people.!! I'm trying to get Frank all my money I can every time I'm hungry!! We love you bro Michael Aswell Zenteno
Laura Winningham
Expensive for lunch but worth it!
Chandler Wilkerson
Been going here for 25 years. Great Italian deli with a strong Houston pride, from pictures and jerseys covering the walls to the "Houston Superior Water" on tap at the soda fountain. Get a po-boy (and)/or one of the parmagianas for the full experience.
Tom Scheible
This is a great Italian restaurant! I rank it easily in my top 2 Italian restaurants in Houston. Meatballs, eggplant Parmesan and Muffaletas are just some of my faves. Yes they have poboys and other deli sandwiches including Reubens.
Anthony M
Meatball sandwich was excellent. Highly recommend trying it!
Eddy Martinez
Great COOGS environment and excellent food!
M S
The portion size of the regular sandwiches are small and a large is expensive for a deli. I felt a little ripped off.
Eduardo Elizondo
Trio salad is an excellent option when looking for something healthy. I also enjoyed eating on the patio enjoying the great weather
Daniel Robledo
The food is great! Love the family atmosphere. The staff treats you with respect and like family. If you're in the area, stop by...
Shawn Jackson
Great sandwiches and pasta. I'm really happy to have a spot in town for great Italian sandwiches like I used to enjoy in the Northeast. They are very friendly people, too.
Ascetic Blur
Mandola's Deli is a Houston institution located in the East End. The cornerstone of a Houston restaurant empire. The Mandola family Deli is throwback to the family's less ostentatious days before Tony's and Vincent's. It's a walk in deli featuring limited table service and a family friendly casual atmosphere. A bastion for Houston sports fans particularly for the die hard University of Houston cougar fans, it's a fantastic gameday location. The fair is east coast traditional Italian, and the atmosphere is a unique blend of east coast corner restaurant and southern hospitality. It's the kind of place where the owners remember your name and the staff may rotate once every twenty years. The food is excellent and the dining experience is no nonsense. Can't recommend it enough.
Steve Ohhh
Badass family business! Great food! Cheap beer! And they support UH sports!! Go Coogs!
ROBERT MANGEL
Traditional Italian food served at a historic location. Mandola's is a historic restaurant that has been serving food to Houstonians for several decades. Family photos going back several Generations are posted throughout the restaurant and the place is frequented my all types of people in search of great Italian cuisine.
john henderson
It's a Houston icon . Go there on game day at the U of H
Ronald Valles
1st time there after living in this neighborhood most of my life. Great food, nice place to have a party. Staff is very friendly.
rachel Fuller
Best lasagna I've ever had!! I ordered it to go, they had it ready very quickly. I've also ordered catering before and the food was very good!! I would definitely recommend Mandola's deli!
Richard K
My wife wouldn't even share the Italian green bean salad it was so amazing. Poboys full of deli meat. Everyone genuinely friendly and glad you are there. Even at 3pm.
Ty Pfeiffer
The eggplant parmesan is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend.
Restaurant was relaxed and the service was quick and polite. Great experience.
Mason Sturm
Excellent sandwich and great lunch special. Staff were friendly and helpful.
JD Johns
Great place for lunch! Wonderful sandwiches and pasta options. You must try the fried lasagna bites! Family owned and operated.
Kristal Knapek
I loooove Mandola's! My dad went to high school with the Mandola family and he loves to take me there when he is in town. We both tried the eggplant parmesan sandwich today and it was the best sandwich I've ever had! Fresh poboy bread comparable to poboy bread from Philadelphia, was to die for and the cheese could stretch to the moon!
C
A delightful low-key, friendly neighbourhood Italian deli. They do some great pasta dishes, and are always happy to customize any dish to how you want it, and if you’re lucky they might just name it after you 😉 …
Jessica Leigh Graves
I discovered Mandola's and I'm now obsessed. I've never had a muffalatta poboy before, but having had one I'm convinced it's the best thing on Earth. The rolls they make for the poboys are absolute perfection. I have to come back until I've eaten through the whole menu. And they even have cold brew coffee! This is my new favorite place in Houston.
Grover Newman
Love this place. Great food family atmosphere. I've been eating here since I was knee high to a grasshopper. This place is a must and a Houston institution!
Huong Huynh
I ordered the chicken parmesan dinner. It is delicious everytime I order. The crispy and juicy texture of the chicken combine with their spaghetti taste so good. And with 10% off qith student IDs, is a plus.
Andy Mejia
Fantastic spot! Place smells like New Jersey pizza and I love it! New regular spot for me.
Jennifer Hudson
Great lunch at Mandola's Deli. Met Joseph Mandola, who greeted and took personal care of every person who came in the restaurant. Fabulous meatball sub and the best muffaletta my husband and I have ever had. Definitely coming back!
Lady Dinah
I live near by and was introduced to this place via a passerby in the neighborhood.
Had the turkey club and boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!
That shyt was good!!!!
It was warm and I think it had some hint of bacon in it too. You know, that "Magic-Meat🐷" lol
I honestly didn't know what they were going to add to my sandwich.
But man, it was a certified lunch son.
I'm tellin you, the best spots in Houston are those hidden ones.
You know what?
Matter of fact. I'm bout to hit this place up again......... TODAY
#CatchMeOnTheFlipSide
Richard Baxter
Had the Ruben, Meatball Sub, and Wop Salad.
Sandwiches were Great and the salad was good, just over dressed.
Cant wait to be back in the area to try something else on the menu.
Katie Padua
Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was great and the restaurant was very clean and safe with social distancing. I recommend the fried lasagna!
Bill Graham
I've been eating there 40 plus years and it's still good.I stop by every chance I get

The Lasagna, the white bean and sausage soup, the chocolate cake and the lemon delight were the best!!
Thank you to Frank Mandola and crew
melissa lopez
I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, super delicious. I love how tender the meatballs are. I will definitely go back for seconds.
Jamie Shakar
Great sandwich shop. Sandwiches are huge.
Justin Backman
It’s a casual order at the counter eatery. definitely get a side of Italian sausage or deviled eggs. I’m partial to their sammiches but the pasta is good too.
Donna Lucas
This family owned and operated lunch box is the absolute best. The family is always pleasant and welcome you to their restaurant. The food is delicious!
Robert Bryce
Love Mandola's, old school Itallian food done right. Mandola's is an East End Houston Institution. The Itilian3Beef Sandwich is a favorite. But the Chicken Parm is REALLY goid. A hard vhouce when anything that involves their meatballs. Which we order by the sheet pan full for soecial functions. The Lasagna too ! Covid19 has been hard on them, as many of their normal regulars are now working from home. IF YOU IN THE AREA OLEASE SUPPORT THEM. IF YOUR NOT. ORDER A PAN OF LASAGNA or other treats for a family or company function.
Erika M
Great to have in the neighborhood! Their chicken marsala is really good. Dessert wise the chocolate cake is my favorite.
Arthur Eureste
Best Italian Deli. Delicious 😋
SHAMEberS
Out of all the years I lived in the neighborhood and passed by this spot I never stopped. I did today man it was delicious!! Positively the best sandwich I've had in years.

Bob Gray
Great food!
Thomas Walker
The deep fried lasagna appetizer is so bad for you but so delicious. Chicken parmesan very good but tiny pieces of garlic bread.
Tony Mahome
It was a simple Turkey Club sandwich. But, it was so tasty. And the bread was very fresh. Definitely going back to try other sandwiches.
Jose A. Villarreal
Good frendly people....love Italian food
K.L. Turner
It was ok. Super friendly, nice selection. But it's gotten really expensive! $11 for an ok sandwich with no side? Probably won't go back.
tabennett (the_kingbenn)

becky Rodriguez

Alex A
Let me start by saying i know my italian food.
While i did walk in expecting the usual that passes for italian food in this city, i am happy to report that Mandola has at least some hint of authentic italian in their recipes and probably heritage.
I will be back to try again to be certain, but for right now i was pleasantly surprised.
Alex Silva
Nice, clean and italian place. Very good food, specially for vegetarians. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Little expensive, but the sandwiches are very good.
