Reviews of Basalt

January 2022:
Enjoyed a birthday celebration dinner! Everything was super delicious!
Started with dinner rolls that they mentioned were like a Filipino roll. It was very good. Warm with nice crust. 👍
We also ordered a half bottle of Chardonnay. The wine list is quite extensive with a good range of reds and whites from the New and Old world 🌎!
For mains, we tried the pork chop and the vegetarian gnocchi. Both were really good. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy 😃. The pork chop was cooked perfectly with lots of juice!
As a nice surprise, the server brought a guava chiffon cake to treat us for our birthday 🎉🎂! Yeah! That was super nice!
Would definitely come back again for more delicious food! Thank you for the great time!

Basalt is a great breakfast place, and service is exceptional. We started with coffee, my partner with a latte, which was great. I had a cappuccino, which was a bit of a mistake, not great (as expected). We also had juices, my partner had a mimosa with pineapple juice which was very yum. I had the orange juice, very good as expected. Food was very good, I had the lox bagel, which I had to assemble myself. This was so good, and added to the enjoyment of the meal, very tasty. My partner had avocado toast with a poached egg, which she was very satisfied with. Overall, highly recommended, we'll be back.

We had a fabulous dinner. Our waiter was Matt and he did an awesome job. The service was friendly & efficient. The food was excellent. Complimentary bread was warm and tasted beautiful. Our mains were vegetarian and seafood fettuccine. Both meals were excellent because they were tasty and hot. Highly recommend Basalt located within Dukes Lane Market & Eatery.

I have mixed feelings because the food is 10/10 delicious. The charcoal pancakes are worth the hype. They are so good. The guava strawberry sauce is worth the trip alone. The server was nice but the hostess saw we had a child and immediately ushered us to the outdoor seating where other families with children were, and didn’t even give us the option of sitting indoors where it wasn’t windy and cold, and dropped our menus and walked away. It felt a little like they didn’t want to ruin their vibe with kids inside. But that being said, the food was worth it.
Noah
Unpretentious with a good deal of outdoor seating. It’s Waikiki so don’t expect Michelin grade service and dining here, but the food came fast and was safe if not overly focused or particularly delicious. The black charcoal pancakes are nothing fancy and taste like regular pancakes, so are only worth it for the Instagram. Other good we had was all safe and reasonably tasty but nothing to write home about. It was overpriced for what it was, and likely involved a lot of reheating of frozen things given the speed at which 5+ dishes were prepared. (<10 mins)
It’s ranked as a very sustainable restaurant but the overall vibe is “upscale Shopping center” not “farm to table thoughtful foodie haunt”. You’ll see this from the photos too.
It wasn’t a terrible value but it wasn’t a steal either. Look elsewhere if you’re actually a sustainable food hound hunting for great eats.

Our meal was delicious. We started out having the lobster bisque with the charcoal rolls. This is one of the best bisque soups I have had. I ordered the macadamia nut crusted swordfish which was cooked perfectly. I had been wanting to try the macadamia nut crust and I’m glad I waited to try it at this restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib which had great flavor and was cooked perfectly as well. 10/10

Excellent from start to finish. We got the lobster bisque, seafood paella, macadamia nut crusted fish, cheesecake, coconut cake, and chocolate mousse cake (3 of us splitting basically everything). The bisque had a great initial punch and a great lingering taste. The seafood paella was great — cooked perfectly — the lobster and scallops were 🔥. The macadamia nut crusted fish was our table winner for the night (along with the cheesecake) — the fish had a great crust and total flavor palate to it, very deep flavors. The cheesecake is arguably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had — not sure how they made it as creamy as they did but it was tremendous. Fantastic place!! Best meal I’ve had in Hawaii.

Great staff. Table was cleared very fast after every food item. I made reservations through open table. The Ny steak was great and Asparagus. My friends say swordfish was great. The corn chowder was great. The waiter even brought me a small slice of chocolate mouse pie for my birthday and lit the candle. It was great. Everything was greatly appreciated.

Overall, this place had friendly and helpful staff. However, the food lacked. The menu is a little more expensive than other places, but we decided to give it a try since the reviews have been generally positive. Unfortunately, the prime rib was not satisfactory. Although it’s recommended by the restaurant, I found the prime rib to have little flavour and a lack of tenderness. However, my partners dish, the paella was good and tasteful. The appetizer was not very good either. As this place charges high prices for their food, I expected more consistency. Would not recommend.

Really loved the food and service at this place just off the main drag in Waikiki. It's inside a market, which makes it look a little food-courtish, but don't let that deter you. They have some great gourmet entrees and a surprisingly extensive wine list. The Charcoal Pancakes are the best!
Kellie
This place is a couple of levels above many of the eateries in the area. Attentive service, interesting variety of very tasty dishes and good wine list. Beef fries were particularly delicious. Great plates to share.
Ana Torres
Okay this place is amazing. I chose a combo (appetizer, meal, dessert) for one set price and I am so happy I did. The lobster bisque soup delicious and satisfying, the seafood paella I’ve never had and I’m so glad I went with it! The taste was delicious and so savory. The cheesecake taste like a cloud lol. It was amazing! The first picture is to show that they offer bread. Promise you it is not burnt, doesn’t taste burnt or charred. It’s soft and fluffy!
Charlie Fenton
Convenient location inside of the Dukes Lane Market. Smaller menu (which is nice), and good selection of top choice seafood and turf. Great bar menu, with great selection of bourbons. Nice outside seating area.
Dorota Amanowicz
I would give it a 4,5 star if I could and I went there twice - for breakfast and dinner the following day. The chef's burger was outstanding, cooked to perfection, the bun was omg. My breakfast avo toast was also delicious. For dinner I got the seafood paella - it was not the best paella I've had, but the most expensive one for sure (58$). My husband liked his prime rib, but again - he's had better. So to sum up - take the burger from the breakfast menu and you will be happy!
Monica Gonzalez
The best place to have breakfast! We ordered the charcoal pancakes and salmon Benedict. Everything was absolutely delicious! The guava sauce on the pancakes was perfection. Very happy and plan to come again next visit. The ambiance was nice. Rest rooms were clean.
Joseph Lau
Very interesting items like charcoal pork belly bun. Dishes are very well food decorated and tasty. Service was a bit irregular depending on the server. Overall experience was good.
Kayla Brown
Found this place on accident looking for a sit-down restaurant our first morning in Hawaii. It was so good we went back every morning! We brought friends and family with us too and they kept coming back. Food was DELICIOUS and the servers were amazing (our server Thuy especially!). They remembered us and treated us so well. I feel like we really lucked out finding this place.
Anna
Normally it wouldn't be 5/5 but in Waikiki... well, you have lots of "fancy" places that are only fancy by price and look of it, with very average-tasting food. I know that the best options are food trucks and small neighborhood spots, but sometimes you want to sit down in a restaurant, which becomes a challange. This place is a bit simpler and it seems this is the way to go here - forget the pretentious restaurants that DO NOT deliver, go somewhere like this, nice but not crazy.
That means the food was good here. It's not the best in the world, but we enjoyed it. We started with some salad, pretty average but nothing to complain about. Then for the entrées- my company was pretty happy with the prime rib. As for me, the gluten free options are marked on the menu, but as in many places they are limited. I was tired of steak so I asked if there is any chance they could modify and give me fish with no crust (there's fresh cash in macadamia panko crust) and whatever else would be needed to make it gluten free. They did! And it was very tasty, the fish was delicious, there was great caper-tomato relish that made it bright, and tasty mashed potatoes that were very rich, but I couldn't stop myself from eating a bit.
We finished with Crème Brûlée, which was the weakest. I had to try it as it's passionfruit custard and I love passionfruit, but it turned out to be very sweet. It's tasty, very tasty, but you can't have a lot. The berries cut nicely through it but it wasn't enough to have many bites. The sugar on top of it was very thick so we just put it aside and only ate the custard.
Overall, with so many places in Waikiki that are overpriced and not up to taste, I can recommend this one as a spot where you can enjoy the food for a change.
Simon H
Basalt has many appetising menu options but my toasted prime rib with melted Swiss cheese and onion rings didn’t materialise. The prime rib seemed to be shavings, I was expecting a thick slice, and when it was toasted it seemed to collect flavours from the previous dish which didn’t compliment it and I couldn’t taste any creamy horseradish sauce. The onion rings were very crunchy, overly so because the onion rings could not be tasted.
Unfortunately rather disappointing, hope you have better luck than I did
Derek
Wow absolutely delicious! Between the group we had different fishes and steaks as well as the adobo wings and everything was delicious. I have two things I was not crazy about and that is the fries were not great and the adobo wings were not adobo however they were still very good. Definitely recommend this place!
Ahvina
We stopped by at the place around noon and it wasn’t as hectic but a good amount of people went there. We liked everything here. Service is great, foods are delicious and the location is nice. Park your car by the zoo and walk there would be ideal. It’s also a reasonable price. Would go there again.
Jiyeon Portnoy
Nice place. They have great menu for all day. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert. I chose loco moco and was very delicious. Nice atmosphere and nice food. Also close from all the shopping malls and also it’s located in a place with other restaurants so you can look around and get dessert or shop. This is a great place :)

Don't be fooled...Basalt may be in the back of the food hall, but it's seriously good food. We came for dinner because we had heard about it. First, make a reservation to ensure you're able to be seated, besides at the bar. Second, it's not as noisy as you think it will be. You can converse just fine. We started with drinks, the Boulevardier and the Howling Tiki, then later the smoked Manhattan. All terrific. As far as food goes, we started by enjoying the charcoal rolls. They were really good & soft. Then we tried the duck empanadas & beef fries. Both were good, but the beef fries were AMAZING...A larger portion could definitely be an entree in itself. The beef was seasoned so well, and the avocado crema was divine. For entrees I had the macadamia-nut crusted fish(which was swordfish that night), with garlic mashed potatoes & asparagus. It was great. My wife had the New York Steak, with sauteed kale, potato & chimichurri, and she said it was one of the most flavorful steaks she'd had. We thought that was the end of our meal, but they brought us the Grand Marnier mousse cake as a free surprise because it was our Anniversary! So sweet. Everything was top notch, including service. Will come back next time I'm in Honolulu.
Amir Shevat
We had a great time here. My wife loved the gluten free rissoto, the kids loved the empanadas, and I loved the prime rib. Desserts and drinks were also wonderful.
Andrew Eib
One of the best meals I've had in Waikiki, this restaurant is tucked away in Duke's Lane market place but has some of the best steak around. We went back a second night and I got the kurobuta pork chop which was also flavorful and juicy. The charcoal dinner rolls were a hit and the lilikoi creme brulee was delicious as well. It's one of the best steaks in Waikiki.
D. Duncan
Great location. They have indoor and outdoor seating on Dukes Lane. Bar was clean and big with plenty of room. Staff was nice, but bartender cold have been more.friendly. AGAIN...I ate the food before I could get pictures...it was excellent and when seeing others dishes they appeared delicious. I'll try again one day.

Delicious!! It was our first time trying a charcoal roll and Loco Moco..after reading the reviews of being the best ever, it was awesome - so happy we tried both. And as a surprise, our waitress Lily sent over an anniversary cake for our anniversary - what a nice surprise and treat!!
Allison Velez
GO! The food was incredible. We ended up just ordering 7 appetizers/sides because too many things looked too good not to try. Cocktails were great, decent wine list, great service. The beef fries were some of the best I’ve ever had.

Follow me for more great reviews.
Good place for diner, we had the duck empanadas and the poke for entry, the empanadas were great and tasty with that little dipping sauce, the poke was also really good, some dressing on the salad would have been nice though. The mains were really good, the crusted fish of the day was really good, it was marlin so they respected the fish, well done, the pasta where tagliatelle, looked like they have been cut, they were really short, maybe it was the bottom of the package with all the broken ones haha, just al dente though 1 minute more and it would have been overcooked that been said the pasta sauce was really tasty and generous with the seafood, it saved the dish, the tiramisu was good, looked like a proper one, not sure they use mascarpone felt a little too firm to me but the taste was on point, overall really good diner

The charcoal powder baked bread comes out soft and warm, very delicious! the beef fries and the seafood plate is nice but nothing outstanding.
Ruben Ruiz
Everything was delicious, beautiful and generously portioned. My favorite Mai Tai I tried on the island and a pretty decent pina colada as well. The whole staff was very sweet and accommodating.
The outside seating has umbrellas that create a wind tunnel if it's a particularly breezy day, so take caution.
Alex
I can write a hundred positive things but the attached photo might do better judgement. Really great restaurant with friendly and professional staff and awesome food. You must try Basalt pancakes with guava sauce. They are incredible. We will definitely come back!
Kyle Darlow
My wife and I went here for breakfast as our first morning on Oahu and we could not have picked a better place. Great location, great food! The pancakes were nice! Will definitely come back before we return to the mainland.

This restaurant was well situated just downstairs from my hotel room. There is a convenience store, bakery, and Starbucks in the same area but we went to the restaurant only. The location was convenient and there was no wait time (THIS IS HUGE IN HONOLULU) since we sat at the bar every visit. we visited for dinner twice and brunch once. Each time it was incredibly satisfying. The charcoal pancakes, crispy quinoa shrimp, octopus, paella, and rib eye were standouts! Absolutely great service even at the bar and very attentive bartenders. I’ll definitely be back my next visit!
Kerry B
Delicious breakfast. The whole experience was great, the server was very attentive. Food was delicious and there was no wait the morning that we arrived there. Outside and indoor seating. Note that the outdoor seating is next to an alley way that can get loud at times. Pigeons flying round. Charcoal pancakes with guava sauce was so DELICIOUS and fluffy !. Wished I had ask for extra guava sauce. Worth the expense. Loved my eggs benedict with smoked salmon and capers!. My husband had an omelette and loved it also. I will return next time I am in waikiki. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had at a restaurant.
Adrian Chang
Came here for brunch and it was so delicious! Their coffee was amazing first off, we got 3 cups full because it was so tasty!
We ordered the Loco Moco, Charcoal Pancakes and a bibimbop type brunch meal. The Loco Moco was DELICIOUS with the wagyu beef patty all the flavours mixed together insanely well! The charcoal pancakes 🥞 were super cool to see and extremely tasty to eat! The whip cream was awesome! Seemed house made but it was much thicker than I was used to which I enjoyed! The bibimbop was also tasty the beef strip were cooked well!
Awesome would love to come back again!
Anas Munshi
Underrated joint! Indoor and outdoor seating and delicious breakfast and coffee.
Had a server, Ronald, professional at the finest. The coffee was fresh and the salmon Benedict was amazing - would definitely repeat and order the same thing! Also tried the charcoal pancakes but truthfully they didn’t taste much different than your standard cakes - 6/10.
Salmon Benedict - 12/10!!!
Juston Anderson
Restaurant within a store? Don’t let that deter you! Excellent food, great atmosphere. Tucked in with an outdoor patio on the side, the ambiance offers comfortable seating with a menu for any taste.
Bob Shintaku
Great EATS!!! The rolls look, ugh dark purple, but taste great and are very soft!!! We had the Miso Cod and Prime Rib, which were also wonderful!!!
Robert Gysi
I'll be honest, I came here because I saw pictures of the charcoal pancakes and decided that I had to try it for myself, just because of the uniqueness. And I wasn't exactly disapointed either! Especially with the guava sauce on top. While I didn't have anything else to try, I did see plates going to a few other folks that looked quite tasty.
Daffodil C
Service was wonderful! We had reservations but arrived early and was seated right away.
We started dinner with complementary dinner rolls (very delicious, so soft and pillowy) and butter (unsalted, I had to add table salt for my own preference). The duck empanadas were amazing, I absolutely loved the goat cheese sauce it came with. We also ordered the lobster bisque which I did not like but my husband loved. We both ordered signature dishes: the prime rib and mixed seafood paella. The prime rib was so tender and well seasoned. The seafood paella was not what I was expecting- it was also a little salty for my taste (my husband had a bite and said it tasted good) but the seafood was cooked perfectly!
NG
Setting: Tucked away towards the back of the market, this restaurant has outdoor and indoor dining. No booths but ample space between tables, even for strollers. A bar is the centerpiece and the kitchen is open.
Service: Our server Matthew was attentive and brought refills and cleaned off the table quickly and with sincerity.
Food: The black bread is delicious, semi sweet, that combines well with the lightly salted butter. The salad that is part of the $70 3-course is full of flavor and fresh. The wings were cooked to perfection and came out hot but not to the point they burn you. The NY strip has good flavor and the seafood plate did not disappoint. Cheescake tastes homemade.
rolltide372109
This was my favorite restaurant in Waikiki. Each time we came, I had a new and unique dish that was exceptional. I highly recommend them for all meals including breakfast as the Prime Rib Hash was incredible.
Natalie C
Had a reservation for yesterday but unfortunately due to a situation in the area they were closed. We decided to go tonight and it was the best meal we have had during our stay here. The customer service was impeccable. They apologized to us for being closed the day before and treated us like VIPs. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back again.
Maxim Tyutyunnikov
We were here for breakfast and it was absolutely fabulous! The best hollandaise sauce I ever had on my eggs benedict. Black pancakes were yummy, too. And our server was a total sweetheart.
Mayur Patel
This is an excellent restaurant with a great variety of options for brunch. I ordered the charcoal pancakes which looked very striking (like dark chocolate pancakes) however tasted almost like regular pancakes. The guava syrup was delicious. It is a pretty pricey place, but definitely worth the extra money.
Rick Cheney
Basalt really is a hidden gem in Waikiki. We ended up enjoying 3 different meals here during our 5 days in Oahu. Breakfast was good, so we tried dinner which was even better. I enjoyed the black pancakes and 10 oz NY steak.
On our last day we wanted to have lunch at Marugame but the line up there was crazy, so we ended up at Basalt for lunch. The chefs burger was the best burger I’ve had in 2022!
Rachel Adams-Beja
The duck empanadas was amazing!!!! The prime rib however was a bit tough which is hard to do. .asked potatoes were severely under seasoned. Service was pretty good. Just wasn't worth $140.
Suhei Lakhani
My husband and I were celebrating our 6th year wedding anniversary in Waikiki so we decided to try this place as it was recommended in many blogs. We started the evening with a minor inconvenience but John, the manager, was amazing and made everything he could to make our evening lovely. We ordered the prix fixe; my husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the paella, both were delicious. We got to try the crab bisque, the shrimp appetizers and the duck empanadas (AMAZING!), the deserts were spectacular. I loved the passion fruit creme brulee. Our server was great too. I'm so glad we went here to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you again John!
Sung Cho
We visited Basalt multiple times during our stay in Waikiki because it was so delicious. The kurobuta smoked pork with sous vide then grilled cabbage was the highlight.
We went back for breakfast to try other menu items and they did not disappoint either.
Great attentive and friendly service. Would def go back and recommend to friends.
Lushen Wu
We came here once for brunch and once for dinner. The miso cod and bao were 10/10. Brunch was also delicious (pancakes, benedicts) with generous portions. You can't go wrong here!
chestimona Bell
Niice resturant with great food. The food was delicious very tasty. The waiter Matt was amazing, great customer service skills and very knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely eat here again and highly recommend this restaurant.
Tom MacNabb
Started with the Abodo Chicken wings, tasty but messy with a sweet savory glaze. For the main course Miso Black Cod, which was excellent, moist and flakey with mushrooms and bok choy in a light broth. The only disappointment was the Smokey Manhattan, sounded good but didn’t live up to my expectations.
Mae
The Ochazuke crusted fish is new on the menu and it was crunchy coated with Panko and tender inside, served with forbidden rice that’s delicious and one of my favorite, and red yuzu sauce, chestnut slaw. The sake mimosa is sweet and better than regular mimosas. Lilikoi crème brûlée is delicious with desert wine. Waitress suggested the cheesecake and if I had more room left I would order that as well. A good list of wine selections. Outdoor seatings with big umbrellas shades. Perfect for dining outdoor.
There is a 20min wait if you don’t have reservations. While waiting you can explore the abc store and the market which are next to the restaurant in the same Duke’s Lane market.
Four stars because after I had food at Eating House 1849, nothing else can compare to it. But great food and five stars for dinning environment. Overall great value.
Colleen Loader
My favourite place for breakfast in Waikiki. The food is so tasty with great portions. Staff and service are 2nd to none. All allergies were noted and managed well by both wait staff and kitchen. They kindly served all the garnishes on the side for the Charcoal Pancakes. The coffee is perfectly hot, fresh and refilled often.
Kelly Lu
Unsuspecting place inside of a market a little way from the beach. Surprisingly hip vibe, and surprisingly very good food. They make this salty sweet bread that looks like igneous rock and oh boy is it delicious. For appetizers we got the octopus and pork buns, for entrees we got the miso cod and the macadamia nut mahi mahi. Both fish dishes had really great flavor. Seems like a great place for lowkey drinks with a bonus of really flavorful dinner food.
Eugene Malobrodsky
Its a very great place for breakfast. Even during Christmas rush stuff is very attentive and food comes out fairly fast. Food tastes good. Avocado toast is amazing and the best looking toast I ever had. Coffee is very good as well.
Julia G
4 for brunch, friends enjoyed loco moco and the omelette(huge!). The avocado toast was smothered in avo mash which tbh wasn’t that flavorful. The bread underneath could have been toasted more. The charcoal pancakes are a visual surprise, but really do taste just like regular ‘ol pancakes!
Michele Pellizzon
Very good restaurant inside the market.has nice outdoor seating area.
For lunch we had lava pancakes topped with cream and berries and moco loco dish. Really enjoyed the pancakes.
Ashley Chartier
Literally one of the best restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating at!! Absolute true and talented chefs who pay attention to the seriousness of allergies. The wait staff are all very welcoming and professional. Just real, authentic, true food! Well done Basalt!!! I’m a hard critic of food and you’ve won me over!!

O M G❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🕊
The best breakfast I have had.
If you like avocado toast with salmon go here.
The ingredients as per se totally delicious 😋.
The way the toast is made is extremely tasty.
Service is great.
Love it 😀 😍 ❤️
Thank you, guys

The food and service were great. The Lobster bisque was very tasty. The charcoal rolls were unique. The atmosphere is just "meh". Thw restaurant sort of shares space with 3-4 other eateries. The bathrooms were outside the building. It seemed a little odd to me. The food was fairly expensive as well (vs other meals we had in Oahu). The food was very good though.
George Martinez
Great food and easy atmosphere here. They have Gluten Free options and we're able to inform us of what could be modified.
They make bread rolls that are black that seem to be a heavily advertised item as Charcoal Rolls. These aren't GF and honestly I couldn't find the appeal. The butter looked amazing, not so much the rolls.
Also got the catch of the day and Ahi. The Ahi was perfect, the catch of the day was not too bad, but a little too strong on the Panko.
Had a good time overall.
P. W.
We enjoyed our delicious dinner at Basalt. We sat outside and took in the pleasant atmosphere as a gentle breeze blew. The charcoal infused sweet rolls were melt in your mouth good. I got the prime rib and it was tender and delicious. My spouse had nut encrusted swordfish. It was a bit dense as our wonderful waiter Matt had warned, but the flavor was good. Overall it was a 5 star dinner.
neris
Loved it; great service and delicious food.
Ate outside which was nice but needs a little more foliage to cover alley way where cars that drive thru.
Robert Shiota
Amazing food. Great dining experience. Thank you Max our server and Chef, you run a great kitchen.
J Kwan
The paradise cider is my favorite. The burger is really delicious. Wings too spicy.

This place is where dreams come true, the warm embrace of the scrumptious Charcoal pancake is one of the top ten things to do before you die. A bit of additional advice before you go I personally like to make a reservation for a least an hour before the best breakfast. No matter how many times we go everyone, even on a bad day they just get kinder and sweeter it is unreal. In my whole life the kindness that we receive spreads throughout the whole day. If it is your first time coming ask your lovely water/waitress what the restaurant is know for and they are sure to point you to the Avocado toast or the Charcoal pancake. If you can’t decide just choose both, the staff never rush you. This is the most relaxing way to start the day on the highest note.

A “local” recommended this restaurant and we are SO thankful
Our young server named Trillion was spot on
with service and helpful hints
We started our food journey with excellent lobster bisque and the mixed greens salad
Amazing bisque imho
My wife ordered the 10oz NY Steak Frites with arugula, french fries, and chimichurri and it was prepared perfectly to medium as requested
Very little fat and zero gristle
My choice was the catch of the day per Trillion Macadamia nut panko crusted striped marlin with garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and tomato-caper relish
The garlic mashed potatoes were better than mine at home and once mixed with the relish, it was kicked into pleasure orbit
The manager John took time from his busy oversight to stop at our table upon our entree arrival to make sure we were satisfied
Later, John came by again to thank us for choosing Basalt from the MANY Waikiki choices
From the hostess greeting/seating, efficient bus staff, knowledgeable server, and EXCELLENT
food, this response excelled
A restaurant MUST in Waikiki for excellent food and service

Hands down my favorite spot to eat so far in Waikiki. For dinner we had the duck empanadas, they were moist and filled with deliciousness. Their mai tai, extremely fefreshing. We both had the prime rib, worth every penny. The meat, garlic mashed potatoes, and fresh veggies were.cook to perfection.
The charcoal rolls were delicious, took me a moment to get used to the texture but they are very good!
We enjoyed ourselves so much we came back for breakfast. We had Irish Coffees, I had the meat omlet with potatoes, toast, and fresh fruit, husband had the salmon eggs benedict. I did see the MASSIVE breakfast burrito that I will try next!
Bon Park
Love this place! Charcoal pancake and garden toast is my favorite . Loco Moco is my daughter’s favorite.

This place is amazing! All of our food was fresh and delicious! Charcoal pancakes were so light and tasty. The pork fried rice with egg was my favorite though!!! So good!
Brennen Smith
Excellent food, mediocre ambiance - the food is fantastic, no question at all. The avocado toast was fresh and filling.
However the outdoor seating faces the back alley that the loading trucks use. This means potentially loud refrigeration trucks idling there for 1+ hours while you eat.

Great breakfast and great customer service. Whenever you're in Hawaii you most definitely need to try this restaurant out. The waitress Lily was awesome ask for her. The food was 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Aniekan Udoh
We were excited about having our breakfast here and the hostess was nice. However, our server was impatient and forgot some parts of our order. They finally brought the missing item when we were nearly done. Coffee wasn’t as hot as I’d like. We had the charcoal pancakes and basalt breakfast. Both delicious but service could be so much better.
Danny Cao (Kaos)
Had the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and my wife had the pork belly over rice for breakfast. A little on the expensive side but worth it. Eggs on the Benedict was cook perfectly. Also went there for dinner, prime rib and steak were awesome. Crème brûlée was perfect. Great place to eat!!!!
Thomas San Francisco
We had the special charcoal pancakes, Portuguese sausage, and loco moco. Everything was tasty but nothing special and a bit pricy but this Waikiki.
Nicole Spoljar
The charcoal pancakes and the avocado toast were great - very instagram worthy.
Service was efficient too. My latte tasted a bit bitter.
Michelle Middleton
One of the best meals we have ever had. We did the fixed price menu. Lobster bisque was very tasty. I had the Seafood Paella which was amazing. My husband had the ribeye and said it was the best he had ever had and he worked in high end steak houses for over a decade. Dessert was decadent. I had the Grande Marnier mousse and hubby had the cheesecake. It was a little loud in the restaurant but the crowd was lively and everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. We will be back!
Strauss Clio
The food was excellent. The prawn with chinoa and Mayonnaise sauce in particular. Everything was well balanced in flavour and the service attentif and fast
Della Cleveland
Tried Basalt and the food was excellent. I had the veggie omelet, smoked salmon, and the charcoaled pancakes. Everything was fantastic.
Sayuri Shinmoto
We made our reservations months ahead, but there were several walk-ins with no problem in the morning.
I got the Avocado toast and the charcoal pancakes and they looked phenomenal on photos! I asked for the poached egg on the side for a more photogenic purpose.
The charcoal pancakes were delicious! I’m a fan of moist, fluffy pancakes where it doesn’t taste and feel like a regular dry cake. The whipped cream wasn’t overly sweet and I loved it. The only downside was the plate with a stone-like texture. It didn’t like the feeling of cutting into a blackboard-like surface, but it was worth it for the nice photo.
Loco moco was a miss. It wasn’t something to get here for sure. Too much rice and tasted bland.
Avocado toast was very pleasing to look at. I don’t usually get avocado toast but this one was too pretty not to get!
Decaf coffee came with a mini French press. They pressed it too soon, but that wasn’t a big deal. It looked cute so I was satisfied.
Service was great. The outdoor seating had shades from the corner to corner so no need to worry for direct sun lights!
Colin Nowers
Do not let the fact that this restaurant is connected to a marketplace (small grocery store) prevent you from coming! Especially if you request the patio, it was a great experience. The food was delicious, but even more so, the service was exceptional. We went for an anniversary dinner to get away from some of the more generic restaurants, and we were not disappointed. Would go back again. Thanks so much! Russel was our server and he was great.
Christophertravelz
Came here for breakfast located inside the Duke’s Lane market and eatery. Solid loco moco served on pork fried rice for $19 Rice can be a touch salty so I recommend ordering the gravy on the side… also super yummy!
House made marmalade is super good!
Highly recommended for a gourmet loco moco fix!
Stooky Media
Great food great service, has a high end feel with very good prices with size-able portion sizes. The pans cakes have a very unique flavor combos and the sauce is amazing and their breakfast meal was the perfect size and everything tasted amazing!
Carrie Joyce
Fantastic food, great service. I had the empanadas and seared ahi. Enjoyed every bite. Best meal I had during my week in Waikiki.
Jakob Z
We took a visiting friend here for breakfast and all three of us really enjoyed our meals. For being in Waikiki, the prices were spot on. Service was fantastic. My glass was never empty. The charcoal buttermilk pancakes are unique and good. I’d order them again. My only complaint (not the restaurant’s fault) is when sitting outdoors, there can sometimes be a strong foul smell from the hotel next door.
Alan H
I wondered in here needing to kill a few hours before I checked into my Airbnb. The staff were friendly. My sandwich was great! You could tell the ingredients were fresh and there was skill put into the dish.
It’s a great place for a meal anytime of the day. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating.
California lifestyle
They have the best prime rib. Almost died eating it was soo good. They also have interesting appetizers and a nice bar selection. The charcoal bread was soo good and fresh. They also have a separate store to take foods to go. Will be back to try more food soon. Update: went back for Valentine's day. The drinks were good. However the prime rib was not as good as I remembered the first time. Was semi overcooked and the meat was overly salted in one area and not salted in others so the tasted lacked. Also the shrimp was kind of chewy which indicated that it probably was not fresh. Everything else was good.
Takeshi Matsuda
Grab this "to-go" hoping it'll be amazing and the Miso cod was amazing! Wish I could have tried this in house!
Would I come back?
50/50 maybe for Pau Hana / HH to sample a few others items first
Phone orders + pick up + experience
Yes, ended up taking the Fattoush Salad back and they politely refunded. The customer service was solid to can't hate on that.
My picks:
Miso Black Cod (AMAZING)
Steamed white rice, vegetable medley, dashi nage
Fattoush Salad (NEGATIVE WAY TOO SMALL)
Chopped romaine lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, radish, bell pepper, flatbread crouton, pomegranate molasses vinaigrette
Ory Bailey
The service was amazing. The food not so much. I got the prime rib 14 oz and for the price it was 75% fat and dry. I was really disappointed. My friends food was amazing though she got the wings. Probably will not come back though. sorry didn’t take pictures. I don’t like taking phone out at dinner time.
Tanyia Foster
Charcoal pancakes, eggs, and potatoes were amazing! I went twice during my vacay to Hawaii. So good.
Amber White
Absolutely the most delicious food. The steak and shrim was devine. Russell our server was a sweet gentleman. Thanks for offering to take our picture.
Rod Bergen
Lobster bisque was too salty and had to be sent back. The bread was really good (almost black in color as it contained charcoal). The paella was OK but not great. Steak was good but nothing special, The service was quite good but all in all, the experience was a solid medium... very average, so not worth the price.
Andrew Smith
Great food overall, although area itself was a bit noisy. I did find the infamous pancakes to be a bit tough texture wise but fabulous presentation (just needed a tad bit more “syrup”). Service was attentive, checked the correct boxes. Still overall a great choice for breakfast despite the usual high Waikiki pricing.

Anniversary Breakfast
Customer service was excellent and the food was delivered in a timely matter. Everything was delicious especially the bonus anniversary dessert. Highly recommend to come for breakfast, you will not be disappointed.
fjmcpa
Wonderful food, cocktails, and service. Outstanding wine selection by the glass - great!
Jess T
In the beginning was nice. Server forgot about us later so we had to wait a while.. food was good but certainly overpriced. Charcoal bread was very good tho..
curtis richards
This is a hidden gem in Waikiki. It was so good we went two nights in a row. The wait staff was very tentative and the food was phenomenal. The lobster bisque was so delicious we got a bowl for dessert. I had the prime rib for dinner and it was cooked to perfection. We had a few of the specialty drinks and they were all good. I let the waiter know it was my wife’s birthday and they brought her a dessert that said happy birthday and a candle.
Jim Davis
Party of 8. 6 ordered the sunset special, 3 course meal. 2 ordered the Ahi tuna. All selections were good. I had the tuna. Very tender and flavorful. The sides were also tasty. The outdoor seating doesn't have a view but that's no big deal when the food is great.
Piperton Girl
Overrated. Omelet had no flavor, English muffin was lightly toasted and the pancakes would have been better with actual butter and syrup. Glad we tried it but it’s pricey and not that great!
Natassia Grushkin
Love it! Thought it would be hard to get a table and more formal spot but its pretty casual and we were seated right away. The service was great! The food was amazing! Have not had food this good in awhile! It lived up to its hype. My friend ordered a burger and even that was amazing! I ordered the seafood mixed grill and gnocci and both were delicious! I would eat here again. Just sad I couldn't try the house made pasta is no longer available. Try the pineapple guava cider its a sure hit as well!
Olive Sidoine N'guessan
The food got emotional 😂 was so good I wanted to cry 😍💋 come thru guys it’s amazing you will love it

I was scheduled for the Atlantis Cruise and Buffet for my Anniversary and the reservation was canceled. I went searching online for a restaurant and I looked at Basalt Restaurant’s menu. I made a reservation and prayed. It was the best decision I ever made. We had 8 people in our party and from the time of being seated at the table until they found out it was our Anniversary and bought out a beautiful dessert to celebrate it was amazing service and wonderful food. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Howard Lim
this place was surprisingly good. we had the $70 prix fixe 3 course meal which had a choice of either lobster bisque, or mixed green salad as an appetizer, seafood paella or rib eye steak as the mains, and chocolate mousse cake or cheesecake for dessert. the way they setup the pricing makes you basically just get the prix fixe since it's another ~$15 for an appetizer and dessert.
the salad was a bit small but tasty enough. the bisque was a bit on the salty side but had chunks of lobster in it. the steak was seasoned and cooked very well. adding shrimp was a bit much, but they were cooked perfectly. portions were great as well. the desserts were both delicious - not too sweet with plenty of fruit on the mousse which my kids loved.
aside from the salty bisque everything was great! we enjoyed our dinner and the value was pretty good, especially with 3hrs of validation when you park at the hyatt centric garage! we don't come out to Waikiki often, but it's definitely a great place to eat if you're stsying nearby. much better than many of the other tourist trap restaurants!
Greecian Koukla
We came here specifically for the Charcoal Pancakes that were on every other table of seated guests. I'm not usually a pancake person but the beautiful pictures got me and I felt this was a must while in Wakiki. They were absolutely delicious with the Guava Sauce and fresh berries. I wanted to eat something that looked tropical and not like other traditional breakfasts. We also ordered the Traditional Eggs Benedict and the quality and taste exceeded expectations. Our server Thuy was so sweet and attentive to all of our needs while there, neither one of us even had the chance to fill our coffee or water because she was right there and treated us like we were royalty. Her service and kind hospitality truly made our overall experience exceptional. Thuy thank you for going above and beyond. You helped to start our day off great! There is a parking garage and you will have your ticket validated or you can try to find on street parking if you're early enough. We would definitely come back.
Marissa Gomez
Loved Basalt! Came here for a dinner and then came back to try their happy hour. Their regular menu is delicious but the happy hour is awesome! I will definitely be coming back for a third time. The charcoal infused bread items were so unique! No matter what time you come, I definitely recommend starting with the pork belly bao buns!
Eda Smurthwaite
Hidden gem in Waikiki! Our server, Max was by far the most excellent server we have ever experienced in here. I ordered Miso Cos and my Husband ordered Prime rib they are both was wonderful, tasty! We also ordered some appetizers (shows on the photo) Please let Max know that he did an excellent job! 3/13/21 around 7:20pm! Thank you for your service and good I mean savory food!
Update 3/16/21: we came again for breakfast. (Yes they are open 9am even though google shows 11 am) Because I heard that their charcoal pancake is amazing. Yes it is! However the hostess had very bad attitude towards us when we first entered and we had a reservation through open table. She didn’t let us dine in with our coffee just because I didn’t know if they are open or not based on google hours I grabbed my coffee on the way (around 9am) and she basically ignored us and told “I don’t make the rules” It wasn’t a great welcoming for us. Anyway The manger , Ryan wanted to talk to us and he was very nice and hospitable. So our first bad impression for today turned into a great brunch time because of Ryan. Thanks again! And please! you guys should update your google hours it is easy to do! I already suggested to google.
Travis Cain
Great atmosphere and location. Walked by several times and didn't notice. We went during Happy Hour (2-6pm) and tried the Pork Belly Buns. They were delicious!! Also had the Prime Rib Melt Sandwich and wife had the Basalt Burger. Both great. Highly recommend.
Ryan Scheidemantle
Great food and nice drink selection! You could tell they use quality ingredients. The bread starter was good although it is made with charcoal so don’t be scared of it looking burnt lol. Love me the steak it was very flavorful and the chimichuri was unique!
Matthew Warren
Don’t let the market entrance fool you. It sort of looks like you’re walking into an ABC Store or something, but don’t let that keep you from moving forward. I actually kind of liked the atmosphere, but some might find it a bit odd. Once inside, the food is outstanding!! Seriously. A fantastic meal! Try the shrimp appetizer. It was unlike anything I’ve had before. We really enjoyed this place and would definitely go back again.
Cameron Gomez
We love basalt! We always bring our visitors here too! Every time we come we get the charcoal pancakes and the basalt breakfast plate and it never disappoints. I will say the service is sometimes spotty, but they are normally busy when we go. We haven’t needed a reservation for the past several times we went and we’re sat right away.
Clarissa Lee
Such an amazing experience. Our dinner consisted of sharing the prime rib and miso black cod, both of which were delicious and well cooked. We were the last to dine and got to witness a special chef cook-off, wherein the chef's got to cook rib eye steak dishes and play with their creativity! It was such a neat thing to watch, chef Mark won and even shared some of his winning dish with us. Additionally, we got to meet the head chef! Totally nerded out and was a pleasure!
Robert Lai
We came for the fixed price early bird special. The food was excellent and our server Trillion was awesome. We had planned to go Ruth’s Chris for my wife’s Birthday in 2 nights and she wanted to come back to Basalt for her special day.
604 Foodie
Kids love the charcoal pancakes served with guava sauce! It’s an IG worthy photo with a US$20 price tag.
John Danbury
We had the paella and the lobster bisque and both were much too salty, which overwhelmed the flavor and ingredients. The fish was a bit over cooked. The cheesecake was somewhat burned. The service was rushed and lacked much attention and interest in our dining experience. It was on the pricey side.
Stephen Ale
Was a little hesitant to try the Charcoal Buttermilk Pancakes because I'm one of those people who drown their Pancakes in syrup, but all in all it was delicious! I did ask for more whipped cream though as a lot melted eating between the Pancakes and Loco Moco. Nice atmosphere with the decor.
Kateryna Kelarieva
Looks better than tastes!!!!!
So first I want to say that we were not sited during our first visit because we were told there is a huge line waiting in front of us. We decided that if there is a line it’s a really nice place to visit and came the other day.
The guy on front desk wasn’t really nice, kinda even rude, not sure what was the reason. Server was nice. Fries and fish tacos were just fine. It means we could eat them! We have in NJ Mexican restaurant with much more better tacos than here. Also need to say that we ordered wings, which were disgusting. I can’t understand how in America people can’t cook American food and restaurant allow itself serve such awful chicken wings. We didn’t finish them, of course. So basically we were expecting high level restaurant and got really bad attitude and food. Can’t recommend it for sure! Better try truck food or small and nice food places.
3 stars only for server. Food and front desk deserve only 1 star or even no star at all
Regina Gates
My family and I randomly visited Basalt because we wanted a light snack. Little did we know how amazing our experience would be from the hostess to the manager. Special recognition to our waiter Russell, his support wait staff, Kelvin and Matt. We really enjoyed our experience! The hostess and the manager Rodd, we’re dealing with a difficult dining group and it was important to us to let them know how fantastic everything was!!!
Annie Williamson
Now this is a restaurant that is committed to quality!
The food was fresh, hot, and fantastic. The service was attentive, speedy, and accommodating. The quiet, tucked away patio had an excellent atmosphere.
H T
The best food and services we had during our trip to Oahu. It was beyond what we expected from the restaurant located inside the store and food court. It is a fine dining with high quality of ingredients. The restaurant is great for every meal, brunch, lunch, and dinner.
Janette Badia
Wow! This was an awesome experience. A friend ordered the 52 oz. Australian Wagyu steak special that he said was the Best ever! We enjoyed the New York steak! The lilikoi Crème Brûlée and the Basalt Mai Tais will for sure keep me making repeat visits:) You won't be disappointed. Duck empanadas were delicious.. Lobster bisque was ok, not the best I ever had, but did not take away from this amazing meal. Thursdays are currently Mai Tai special day:) Worth it!!
Celeste Witting
Overall great brunch spot! We got the charcoal pancakes which were delicious, and the basalt breakfast which was a pretty standard breakfast plate but everything was well made. Giving this place 4 stars because the iced latte I ordered was actually just an iced coffee with a lot of milk, and wasn’t very good. They also didn’t offer a vegetarian alternative to the meat with the basalt breakfast.
Dani Mai
Cute and cozy for a passerby break. All was very good.
Yogini Jewelz
Fabulous Food, Synergistic Staff!
I so enjoyed my duck empanadas, Miso Black Cod and Lemon Semifreddo. Service was professional and the food stunning, I enjoyed a fabulous cocktail called the Altruistic Hand pre-meal as well. The only areas to improve would be the way the host greeted us when we arrived early, the decor on the outdoor patio… It’s lacking in ambience …. and also would be to have your servers wait until the guest requests the bill before plunking it down. I have noticed in Hawaii this seems to be common practise but it’s not in keeping with fine dining expectations.
Highly recommend !
Dr. G
There is no happy hour here. While servers are excellent and attentive, prices are on the expensive side, location has no view whatsoever, and you’ll be spending your time deciding where to go next. Unless you’re caught in the rain with no other place to go, there are better locations within walking distances.
John Pietsch
Just was introduced to Basalt a few days ago, and I have been impressed with the food and service here. Infact my brother-in-law and sister-in-laws have ate here 4 days running! If that's not a glowing review by itself I don't know what is.
Jam Hen
Trillion was great in helping make my big day special. Ask for him if you eat here. Had the fattoush salad and corn chowder. Both were good. Also had the pancakes and they were good. Not too sweet. Definitely recommend!
Jessica Sowers
Breakfast was delicious, service superb and atmosphere is modern and casual.
My husband had the Basalt breakfast with fresh eggs, bacon, potatoes and more. Everything was very flavorful, hot and truly prepared well.
I tried the charcoal pancakes with strawberry guava sauce, the flavor combination was divine. Pancakes were fluffy and not heavy. The fruit was fresh and sweet. The coffee here is excellent, hot and roasted perfectly. I highly recommend Basalt!
Ivo Genev
Great place for dinner and cocktails. They have cool outdoor seating and the service was outstanding. Overall, wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend it!

The avocado garden toast and charcoal butter milk pancake are heavenly. The pancakes are fluffy thick and soft, with freshly made strawberry sauce with the right amount of sweetness. Love it. Would make it everyday if I can.
Dakota Klyve
The burger is amazing -- many reviews highlight this and they are not wrong. Went back 3 more times for the Bar Burger. 4 ounce Wagyu beef burger for $7 during happy hour? Best quality to price in Waikiki. Dinner was great as well, good service and solid drinks and food. Bartender made an off-menu Vieux Carre -- so delicious!
Javier CS
We got surprised by Basalt, will be back.
Service was great, very nice and accommodating. Food was also good and reasonable prices for waikiki.
We went with the 3 things that they recommend from the breakfast menu.
- Avocado salad 4/5, tasty and pretty. Not lots of food. Comes without an egg, you need to add it.
- Rice eggs pork belly 4/5, also tasty.
- Charcoal pancakes 4/5. Tastes like regular pancakes 🥞. You can ask for maple syrup and will bring it to you. You can order the regular size (3 pancakes for $14), or 2 for $10 — they are gigantic, so in our second visit we just ordered 2.
In a second visit we also tried the omelette, it was ok (3/5). Good quantity. Potatoes were undercooked. Goat cheese tasted OKish.
Andrew
Beautiful venue and we were lucky to have gotten seated really quickly. Food was really high quality, servings were generous and the prices were fair.
Sandy Chan
Had breakfast here as they were one of the few places opened at 7am and we were jet lagged. Service was great, enjoyed the outdoor seating. Food was okay. Ordered the loco moco and while tasty, I was told not authentic. Also had the charcoal pancakes as advertised by everyone. The kids and hubby gobbled it right up and didn’t even leave me a bite so I’ll take that as a good sign.
Jon Chizm
The chef who made my eggs Benedict is some kind of an egg genius. I have never had eggs poaches to quite this level of perfection. Somehow the yolk was medium rare and at the same time still kind of liquid. It was like egg yolk gravy. Oh my God! So good! The only problem with this place is it's in the middle of a store. Otherwise, totally awesome!
Justine LaLa Story
First time eating their food. And it was take out.
The curbside pick up was Perfect timing, 15% off and our Wagyu patty fried rice Loco Moco and prime rib melt were excellent.
We will do the take out again! We hope to keep Hawaii cooking and to see the local business survive during this difficult time.
Charcoal pancakes are to be tried out for sure!
nafeesa F (Naf)
The five stars were for their pancakes alone. Amazing pancakes. I have had pancakes are so many places but their charcoal pancakes rose to the top with their lightness and fluffiness. I ordered farm goat cheese omelet which was good too.
Mike S.
A typical tourist place with typical food (they tried to make it more contemporary and fun, but black pancakes taste just like the regular ones), typical ambiance, and service. Went there once, did not have the desire to do it again.
Edward O'Beirne
A really unique experience. Prawns with heads on, my first in this style: totally excellent, and very generously served, 9 huge ones. Lobster bisque was the best I’ve had, and I order this particular treat every place that serves it, probably 50 times in memory. The blackest dinner rolls I’ve ever seen, and delicious. The service was a little uptight but otherwise perfectly helpful. “Upscale” I guess. Still a peak experience. $50 for one, a top 10 life meal. Definitely would go back.
Dana Griffin
The rice was skimpy, I order a $60 plate of paella that came with very little rice of all things the seafood was greatly seasoned well and taste delicious.
Jeramy Park
House salad was great, mixed seafood grill was ok, however I wish the portion was a little bigger. The scallop, shrimp, fish, and lobster tail were very tasty. I had the banana coconut tart was delicious.
Mike Whipkey
Great Place but they have discontinued their happy hour. Great selection and a very convenient location.
Ali Janati
Food was good. The charcoal pancakes tasted like cake and less like pancakes. Avocado test was tasty and had no issues with that. We purchased coffee which was extremely watered down and even the french press was lacking in my opinion. 4 stars simply because of vibe and the avocado toast and friendly staff. Get your coffee elsewhere.
Utaro Matsunaga
A wonderful experience:
It wasnt too difficult to find as it's somewhat near marukame udon. I suggest parking at ross and purchasing something there after you eat so parking is free!
-Coming into the restaurant its half a market, half a burger joint, and half a bar? It was a bit confusing at first but once seated everything went smoothly. I started off with a guava mimosa for my girlfriend and a pog mimosa for myself, nothing like day drinking! Looking over the menu I was focused on their specials and the pancakes stood out for me. I've never heard of charcoal pancakes before and the avocado toast sounded delicious as well. When the food finally arrived that was the most beautiful avocado toast I've ever received. The arrangement/presentation was something to admire! The flavor of the charcoal pancakes was delicious and not to sweet which was perfect for me. The avocado toast had loads of avocado and the toast was toasted nicely. I also had a lox bagel which came with alot of salmon which had a nicely smoked flavor as well. Overall, a great experience. I can't wait to come back and try everything else!
F Cheung
Service was good. The food was ok. Prime rib and chicken stripes was excellent.
Steak was tough. Seafood in tomato base broth, was ok, luke warm.
Kimberly Chronister
Amazing breakfasts & lunches!
My sister and I very much enjoyed Basalt.
In fact, we ate breakfast there every day, a couple of lunches and one dinner as well, that’s how much we liked it! Take a look at my photos of the avocado toast and charcoal pancakes, both beautifully artistic and delicious. Next time we're in Oahu we would definitely go back!
Chris Amendola
So Basalt didn't disappoint, we made a reservation not knowing happy hour would be so overwhelmingly good. From 3 to 5 the happy hour menu is great, drinks are definitely priced to send you back home or to your hotel feeling right. The food is amazing, we ordered way more than we needed too thinking it was going to be cheap small plates. First I ordered the Teri burger thinking it was a slider and out came this full size beautiful burger, than we all ordered the duck empanadas which were ridiculous. The fish tacos were cooked to perfection, the only thing that was really lack luster was the adobo chicken wings. The weren't terrible and we're good just nothing compared to the rest is all. Parking is validated if you parked in the Nordstrom garage right next door so don't miss out on that. If you're in town stop by even if it's just for a drink and a duck empanada.
Nathan Kam
Wow! Visited Basalt for the first time this past weekend for breakfast/brunch. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place. And it didn’t disappoint. Delicious food and reasonably priced. The entire family enjoyed the experience. Pork Belly and Bacon Fried Rice, Wagyu Loco Moco, Sweetland Farms Goat Cheese Omelette, and Charcoal Pancakes were “broke da mout.” So good! Can’t wait to come back again and try dinner.
Nancy Nguyen
Seriously one of the best happy hour prices and menu in Waikiki. The food was on point and so delicious. My favorite was the Spicy Kampachi Poke and Baja Fish Tacos. The Basalt Mai Tai was also super delicious. Service was excellent. Enjoyed every part of the meal. Will be back to try breakfast because it looks awesome.

The charcoal pancakes at brunch are delicious! Great taste, presentation, and texture. Boozy mimosas worth the price. Service was also nice. If the weather is poor, avoid tables near the windows at the back as there is an automatic sliding door which constantly gets activated. Would have really liked to try their dinner and lunch menu too.
Ben Lobaugh
Ordered the hokkaido scallops and they were the best thing I've eaten on this island, by far. It comes with corn grits and they we're very good as well and I am not a big fan of grits in general. The bar makes a variety of specialty drinks that are second to none. We ordered the duck empanadas and they were great. We can't recommend this place enough. Photo below is 1 of 4 scallops, I ate the others before I thought to take a photo
Drew Tschirki
Best pancakes I’ve had. The fruits are all fresh and the toppings are fantastic. The egg is separate. We also got a wagyu beef patty (Loco Moco) and that was fantastic as well. It’s pricy, but it is well worth what you’re paying for. Service was great. Definitely would come back when we come back to Hawaii.
Eric John Bernardo
Was recommended by Guy from Hawaii News and his Cheap Eats segment. Highly recommend to visit during happy hour. Cheap eats it is! We got the charcoal bun pork belly and their vegetarian pizza. Both had fresh ingredients and always excited for the next bite.
Wilson Lin
Was here for Happy Hour, they got amazing drinks and amazing fish tacos! Highly recommend checking this place out. The service was great too. It's in a really cool area as well.
Sasha Bahdanava
This establishment had a good and interesting selection of seafood and other dining options. The way the food was served was very chic and elegant, with nice plates and plating. The charcoal bread they served was amazing, and a nice twist compared to other restaurants. On the other hand, the menu does a bad job of explaining some dishes, but it isn’t too significant.
Breakfast here is great. Their charcoal pancakes are unique and tasty. It is a big portion, so kids might not be able to finish it all.
Briana Armendariz
The food was outstanding. Everything was cooked to perfection, beautiful plating, good portions, and great prices. The service was great, there wasn’t one time my cup was empty. Highly recommend.
Tony Ciurleo
As close as you get to a Smashed Avo breakfast "Avo toast with poached eggs". Best breakfast in Hawaii for Aussies looking for a healthier alternative to greasy American breakfast food. Other Hawaiian alternatives are also delicious. A hidden gem🤤
Jermaine Tyner
Food was great! Sevice was great! When you touch down in Waikiki put this one in your top 3 places to eat. The atmosphere with the live music was incredible. We finished our meal and stayed for another hour or so for the music. You can't go wrong with this one. Enjoy!
Daniel Hall
It's located in an odd place. It's like in a mini shopping center at the back. It's somewhat nice though. It wants to be high class and does it kind of middle road. The service was top notch and the menu seems ok as well. I ended up getting a couple of drinks and the prime rib. I did have a local rum on the menu, something called Kea. I'll be honest, it almost ruined my night. I will typically stick with Captain Morgan, but I figure, when in Rome... So, as for the steak, it was very good at the beginning, but the more and more I ate, the less I wanted to finish it. It was way too salty for my taste. I would have preferred unseasoned and my own salt and pepper with some au jus. Would I go again, possibly. Since the service stood out and it was relatively quiet (I like quiet restaurants).
Service - 5
Food - 3
Drinks - 4 (I can't fault them for me ordering the Kea rum, but it should not be in the menu(it is not rum))
Price - 3
Comfort - 4

Great food & drinks. Especially until 6 when happy hour ends. Try the pork belly Bao and the hamburger on the happy hour menu. Also the Russian mule is a go to drink. The live music was Stellar Saturday night. Amazing vocalist.
Alex P
Great happy hour groom 3p to 6p daily. $3 beer and $6 waygu steak. $5 buger and $8 pork belly in charcoal rice bun.... very delicious.
Mark Drish
Best dinner I've had in Waikiki in years. Staff amazing. Service great food unbelievable.
Eric S
Amazing atmosphere and perfect place for a fancy night out. The seafood was fresh and the cooking was on point. Definitely will come back.
Keoni Akina
Absolutely excellent service and food! The whiskey selection and Black Lager helped quite a bit ;) Mahalo Russell & Ben!

Went for a happy hour at 2pm on Sat. It was worth it. A glass of rosé is only $5 😍 …

I love their mouthwatering, well seasoned and delectable steaks, the freshness & lavish flavor of Ahi Poke. Also, I enjoyed the quintessential black bun ( "pandesal" with activated charcoal) they served. Definitely coming back when I visit Honolulu again.
KJ K
Everything was excellent from start to finish, food, service, atmosphere. We had breakfast here and we were far from disappointed. Our server was Sharon and she was very attentive w/o being overbearing, she along with the food was great!
Tanya Zaytseva
It was amazing! We ordered loco moco, bagel and lox and accidentally avocado toast. When we saw it we couldn’t resist and left it with us! :) highly recommend!
Gabe A.
Great service, great flavor. It's tucked away and the menu, while not extensive, is bursting with flavor. It's the recommended lunch and dinner spot for Hyatt Centric down the street.
Phil Ventura
Solid choice for a good deal on breakfast in Waikiki. If you don’t mind being stuffed full, the pork belly fried rice with eggs over easy is delicious. Was also very impressed by the personalized service. Coffee was ‘meh’ but that was the only weak spot. Recommend over more touristy spots like Eggs n Things.
Alex S
My wife and I enjoyed our visit here on New Years. I tried the New York steak and she got the paella. We also ordered wine and dessert as well. Food and service was absolutely amazing 🤩 …
Erica Smith
My family and I ate here for breakfast on Christmas day. The breakfast was fresh, pretty, and tasty.
The staff were fast and attentive.
Suzi Scaramuzza
Made birthday reservations here for a party of 7. 4 of us chose the prixe fixe menu.
The good:
Loved the lobster bisque. And the paella was out of this world. The Prime Rib was cooked to perfection.
The bad:
The grilled tako was small and overdone for $25. The chef missed the mark on our 2 Ribeye Steaks. WAY to much pepper, which is unnecessary on a Ribeye. Far too charred, which ruined it. And lastly, far off the mark on steak temps. Medium rare steak came out Medium Plus. Well done steak was a burnt pepper charred mess. The server somewhat offered to help... But not really. Zero water refills... we waited to reorder drinks far too long.
All this, but we'll be back for the paella and lobster bisque which was memorable.
Laurel Clare
Excellent meal and service. Would recommend to call ahead for a table.
Manny A.
Had the prefix menu. I had the salad, rib eye and cheese cake. Everything was delicious and prepared beautifully. Bartender was courteous and attended to us very well. Will definitely return on my next visit to Hawaii.
Olga Gladunyak
Wonderful service and food fresh and delicious! Tasty! Highly recommend! We order Basalt breakfast and smoke salmon with eggs! Thank you 🙏🏻 …
Chi Koa
Seafood paella is good, but a bit too salty to my taste.
Kristen Conrad-Schnetz
This place was fantastic. Seafood paella was delicious. Garret our waiter was excellent. There was nothing we tried that wasn’t amazing.
Patty Ellis
Excellent breakfast! Loved the charcoal pancakes and the frittata. Great smoky bacon. Quick service too!
blaziken2000x
Went here twice, food is spectacular! The first time the service was attentive. The second time went unfortunately our server was overwhelmed and only came to our table to give us coffee, take our orders, and to give us the check. We had coffee and no one noticed that we were out, waited 30 min before we finally had to ask another server for more coffee. The server assigned to our table was more attentive to another table next to us.
Angela Thompson
What a great meal, superb and friendly service. Was an amazing experience and the food was delightful. So delightful that I forgot to take a picture of the main event- the prime rib. Awesome
Luis Sotelo
Great place for breakfast. I got the charcoal pancakes, sausage, and potatoes. All of those items were a 10/10. Would highly recommend anyone stopping by.
Tanya Hurzhyi
Went here for happy hour. Their baja tacos are really good! They also have a nice outdoor seating area. Def would come here again!
Y J
3.5 Casual atmosphere and food was tasty overall but came a little too slow and there was a plastic wrapping thing inside one of the pork belly bun, which is not cool when you spend over 300 for dinner. Service was great, our waitress was super friendly. Lobster was too salty. Ahi and black cod is recommended.
Kevin Kong
Loved the cocktails here.
Roy M.
We got bunch of apps to share. Excellent food and service.
jslavelanet
Great brunch today! Savory avocado toast with a perfectly poached egg. My husband enjoyed loco moco and charcoal pancakes…kids thought the French toast was best ever. Understated guava mimosa. Awesome service.
ann dailey
Absolutely incredible food - better than you will find at the resorts with a classy yet casual atmosphere. Highly recommend the miso cod and basque cheesecake!
Justin Jaroszewski
Can't go wrong with breakfast at Basalt. This was a great meal. Excellent service.
Xinyue Wu
The avocado taste is decent, waygu beef loco moco is very plain. Overall the food is ok, but won’t come back again
Michael Watson
My wife and I celebrated our 5th anniversary here, and it did not disappoint. 5 star food and 10 star service from our waiter Max!
michael louie
8:30 am weekday breakfast. This is a hidden gem because of their breakfast menu. Indoor or outdoor seating are available. Very friendly and accomodating waitress who made a coffee mocha when it was not on the menu.
ity H
The service was amazing waiter (sefo) was so nice very personable very good and attentive food was spot on highly highly recommend!!!
Mikaelia Escalera
The restaurant is in a building with a store. The decor and music are great. I had the Smoked Salmon, Chives and Capers. It was delicious!!!
Tyler Pursell
Great service with fantastic food. What's not to love?
Make sure to try the pork buns
Michael Howe
Nice place. Steaks were excellent. Creme Brulee was perfect. Good service and atmosphere.
Sonja Siewert
Excellent menu, quality food, good prices for Waikiki. Homemade jam served with breakfast that is delicious. I had the best Locomoco! Good coffee, nice patio and excellent bar. Definitely going back for a third visit.
Lyndon Brown
The burger was absolutely excellent. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had in Honolulu. That’s the reason for the 5 stars, however the pancakes were way overrated. Didn’t really taste all that great and it was just too much pancake for the sauce provided. But the burger definitely is one of the best I’ve had as I previously mentioned. Amazing char on the burger and the sear was excellent. It had great sauce and lots of toppings. I’ll come back again just for the burgers or the highly reviewed pork bun.
jacqlyn Elkington
Don’t let the fact that it’s in a market deter you. The food is phenomenal and the service is on point. Highly recommend
Harman Kaur
I loved the food here! We ate brunch here twice during our trip to Honolulu. Charcoal pancakes and the avocado toast were delicious! The service was a bit slow because they are a busy place and both times our waitresses were in a rush, but overall not bad. The food makes up for the service!
Kent H.
Back at Basalt. Got seated at the same table as our last visit 3 months ago. Service and Food are great as expected.
Becca Rittberger
Seriously so good! The service was fast and the food was amazing! If you’re trying to eat healthier on vacation the Heirloom Tomatoes were so good. And they had live music on a Monday night.
Sylvia Yowe
Best lobster bisque and Mai Tai's ever! Prime rib, seafood entrees, and desserts were very good. Nice outdoor seating and excellent service.
Aleks Guss
Enjoyed every peace of those amazing charcoal pankaces
James Langston (Lango)
Possibly the best Eggs Benedict in Waikiki.
This is literally the only thing I eat at this place. My girlfriend likes the signature pancakes as well.
Nam Nguyen
This place service was perfect. The black bread was absolute delicious with butter. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of the food or the menu, but worth checking out.
I bought Woodford Bourbon 🥃 375mL $26.00 USD.
Michael Clark
Best fish taco ever. All the other happy hour items were delicious. They kept my son's soda constantly filled.
Cruz Chase
Basalt is my favorite date night hot spot spend 100 dollars and basically dinner for two appetizers and drinks with very high quality and good tasting dishes
Patrick Shea
Very good food and the staff was wonderful. 9 plates came within 15min by 4 staff at once. Will be going back.
Therese Howe
We have friends visiting from out of town who want to know where a good place to eat is in Waikiki, Basalt is one of our top picks. One of their signature dishes is an IG-worthy breakfast: Charcoal Pancakes. Their breakfast plates are pretty substantial, and their take on the traditional Hawaiian dish, the Loco Moco, incorporates “lava eggs” (beautfully poached) and a mushroom sauce.
Park in the Hyatt Centric garage for feee validated parking, and enter through Duke’s Marketplace. If they don’t have the coffee you want, the marketplace has a coffee shop where your kid can get their vanilla latte.
Reem Safwat
Nice little place, it's a supermarket / restaurant. Good food with beautiful presentations
Luis Reynoso
A part of the market. It's 'ok' but way overpriced for what it is. It tries to be a fancy sit in restaurant and bar so they charge accordingly but I find there are much better options in the neighborhood.
Bethany Stewart
We stayed at a hotel within walking distance of Basalt, and on the very first day we wandered in for a cocktail. The place was so amazing, the food excellent, and the staff were so friendly that we ended up finishing every night of our vacation here! It is definitely a mainstay for our next trips to Honolulu. I'd especially like to share that Leonardo behind the bar was fantastic. He, Kalei, Jason, Franco, and Ben all took great care of us and shared their stories and insights to this beautiful island. The entire experience was delightful!
Breanne Barton
My husband and I went here for our three year Anniversary and it was wonderful. Our server was very nice and attentive and the bottle service for our champagne was something I’ve never had before and really made the night feel more special. The food was also so so amazing. I got the New York steak and it was cooked perfectly to my order (medium rare). Definitely want to go back here sometime.
Steve Olson
Beautiful food and drinks here. The smoked Manhattan was a fantastic iteration on a classic drink. A very expensive meal overall, but a wonderful option if you are looking for an upscale dining experience. I'd suggest getting the Prix Fixe.
Howard Blankenship
Food and service was outstanding. Drinks were average but can’t give less than 5 for that. Beef fries will always be requested. Had the mixed green salad next and it was top notch. I also had the Black Cod and it was delicious too. Would visit again for sure.
Hanna Janssen
An absolutely incredible dining experience. Our server Max was excellent and extremely attentive. Jerome (not sure if I caught the spelling) was an outstanding food runner and was hopping around this place not making anyone wait on food. The food was cooked to perfection. The head chef clearly knows how to pick excellent cooks and runs a great kitchen. So happy we came here, will be back!!
Bart Blau
A great place for breakfast. Excellent service, food, and prices...the avocado toast was the BOMB! Seriously the BEST. PRESENTATION. EVER! A+ experience.
Sakeenah Adam
My husband and I had lunch there today. I really liked their chicken salad. It was so tasty. Our server Kulauna was very good. I loved his calm demeanor. It was very soothing. He saved us from having a bad experience with another server (much older gentleman) who seemed to be purposely ignoring us. I’m not sure why. We had the charcoal pancakes too. They were okay, different. Unfortunately, I got a terrible stomach ache afterwards. Nevertheless, I am happy that I tried them. I would definitely go back for the chicken salad.
Meaghan Gibson
Basalt used to be one of my favorite restaurants but after visiting last night I realized that prices have soars and food quality has plummeted. I think that will be my last visit to Basalt. There are many other great restaurants in the nearby vicinity that I don't want to wasted 50-75$ per person at Basalt.
Quick note, our server was great and attentive.
GHOSTDOG58
Amazing food! Horrible service at the bar. They forgot to input our appetizers and we needed to flag them down for every single item.
TonyTesla
It was a good place for a quick bite. Staff was super friendly the food was good.
R. Lee Donaldson
It was a random date night for us and had decided to check out this place. This was a surprisingly great place that I've passed over for years since they opened because I felt there were to many tourist flocking there, but I was wrong and have been missing out on some great food.
At first, it seems like a very odd location. The setup of where the location of the restaurant gives the appearance of a food court sort of place, but Basalt is nestled in the back with their own seating area and even have an outdoor seating option. Upon entry, it does seem very busy amongst the other food options and small convivence store. However, once in back in the Basalt restaurant area, the feeling is far more calmer and relaxed from the hustle and bustle in front.
The menu isn't vast, but there are a variety of options. We went with the Prix Fixe dinner and were very happy with this option for both the food and value. We started with the lobster bisque was very tasty with a gentle little kick to it and tiny bits of lobster to be found in it. For my second, I went with the Seafood Paella that had half a slipper lobster tail, shrimp, scallop and fish all bedded over perfectly seasoned Paella rice base. My spouse chose the New York Steak which was an impressively large cut and grilled perfectly. We both closed with the Grand Marnier Mousse Cake which I found the mousse to be over the top and greatly satisficing for my sweet tooth.
There staff are all very friendly and proficient with their service. The place was clean and well spaced making for a comfortable dinning experience. The dinning room give the appearance that it might be noisy, but it wasn't at all and we were able to talk comfortably throughout our meal.
Defiantly will be back!
S.S. T.
Beautifully prepared breakfast dishes were surprisingly bland.
Our server (not all of them) was also lacking. She may be in over her head there.
miss hawaii
Live music, drinks, great bartenders, fantastic food. All the staff front to back were great. Cheese platter was amazing. Specials were off the hook.
Wenter S.
Just came here for dinner and the food exceeded our expectations. We heard great things but was skeptical being in such a touristy area but it totally was worth it. The lobster bisque was so good and the grilled tako octopus dish was amazing. Beef fries was also really good!
Smitha K
Good food and great service. Try the charcoal and guava pancakes, they are delish. Definitely overpriced for breakfast. $18 for a plate of pancakes and $18 for breakfast omelette!
Troy Radcliff
Food was unique, well presented, and delicious. My whole family was raving! Service was excellent.
Kathryn Winters
Basalt was one of the best dinning experiences we had in Waikiki, tucked away in Dukes Lane. So glad i found it on our last day.
Sunknight
What can I say… the burger is the best I’ve ever had and the guava mimosa was giving!Overall the best spot to be since we had to go back again. Let me just say, them remembering us was just heartwarming! ~Mahalo ~
Tanisha Dixon
Great breakfast on our last day in Hawaii. Wish we would have found this place earlier. Food was delicious and prices were very reasonable. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Hawaii!
Joanna C
We had the garlic shrimp pasta and that was packed full of flavour. The place gets really busy so recommend booking in advance.
Gail Paolucci
Breakfast service was fantastic!
Waiter was great.
Dinner service was horrible.
Waiter not very nice. We showed by giving lesser TIP
' to insure proper service"
Melanie Myers
Fantastic dinner, great service! We had the miso black cod, NY steak and paella. Max, our server, was wonderful. Best meal this trip. Highly recommend!
Lauren Gardner
Amazing food & drink, along with truly top-notch service. Was left wanting for nothing during my visit. It is definitely worth spending a few more dollars to dine here, although nothing was unreasonably priced.
Nichole Dau
Amazing service, and a wonderful place to spend your Sunday. The brunch menu is very satisfying and the atmosphere pairs well.
BONDit
You will be surprised 😮 AMAZING. Thank you, stuff.
John Hernandez
Good food and service! No wait time and food arrived quick!
Amir Khan
I wanted this place to be better. Made a reservation for 9am, but had to wait on the massive line of walk-ins for 20 min to be seated. The hostess was VERY nice about it, but it was frustrating.
Loco moco was good, though the sauce was a little cold. French toast was good. Where they really lose stars is service. I ordered a coffee, had to get up and to ask for sugar. Food came, we didn't have utensils or napkins. They just seem disorganized. I wouldn't go back.
Erik P
Seen the pictures and wanted to have a nice dinner and ended up coming here.
Location - Next to the international Matket place inside a food court / store.
Service - Everyone here was so nice from check in to leaving. Servers on point and everything was great.
Food - Food was pretty good, some items could of used a bit more but overall great work.
Drinks - Well made drinks and good selection.
Prices - Everything seemed well priced.
Overall a good place to check out and would recommend it.
Kevin P
Great restaurant. Location is a little strange since it's in the marketplace so at first it looks more casual. The service and food though are 5/5. Veggie gnocchi was great, duck empadas were good, and the prime rib was delicious!
Decky Goodrich
Working on a live review. Will finish when I’m done eating. On first impressions it felt like I was walking into a food court restaurant. But as I sat down (it is really loud outside, I’d advise against) and found seasmoke by the glass things started turning around.
The “black” bread and amazing butter showed up and now my expectations have really increased.
Realized on my second glass of wine, don’t order by the glass. If you like it buy the bottle. (Many will say no kidding, but Basalt offers extra reinforcement to this rule)
The steak fries were outstanding and just right for two. Now on to the main course …
Half way through and have to admit the wine selection is great, the food is so good but for a $200+ dinner service leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully I delete this by the end.
I didn’t… I almost finished my entree before my 2nd glass of wine showed up. You can’t do that with $50 entrees and $30-50 glasses of wine.
All in all weighing price, food and service. The service weighed it down. Slow drinks, slow response a perceived lack of understanding they are charging fine dining prices in a food court and they have to be great on all fronts.
(Before you say they were busy, I can only count almost 10 open tables)
They do have a great chocolate cake they gave us for my wife’s birthday. (Thank you)
I’d try else where or do this for lunch.
C Baity
Food was very good. The waitress was very nice and attentive.
Mario Gonzalez
Really good breakfast. Never had loco moco. Basically burger patty on rice with eggs and a few veggies. Prettt good, although if you're watching your health, maybe not the best choice. Wife has charcoal pancakes I think and she loved those.
evan orehek
Incredible breakfast, fast and high quality
Edit: my wife and i came back for dinner and as expected, it was a moonshot past expectations. The bartender Leonardo was like a childhood best friend from the first interaction. He made the most incredible smoked bourbon manhattan, which was both an experience and delicious. For dinner the steak was cooked perfectly rare and the seafood paella was fantastic. This restaurant is a gem from open to close. 10/10 from a tough critic
Batina Tramaglino
We went to Basalt for dinner. I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews. Walking into the market which is where the restaurant is located (inside) I was even more hesitant but we sat down and were immediately greeted by Max. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. We ordered the Tuna Poke and Lobster Bisque which was delicious and was served promptly. The tuna was a generous portion. We waited to order our main dish because we like to take out time. We then ordered the cod and the prime rib. The food was great!!!! Do not let the bad reviews fool you. I am so happy we gave it a try! This was a Saturday night at 7pm no long wait times for anything and to me there was no sense of being understaffed!
Caitlin
The food was delicious and the service was as well. They have us bread they us bread and was nice and soft. The color didn't add much but it looked nice. The other plates were very good such as the steak, salad, and shrimp.
David Maciel
Great little gem in Waikiki. We will be back and with friends. Thanks for the great service Lili.
Sindhu Shree
Charcoal pancakes lives up to its name and fills up your tummy..portugese breakfast from their specials is a must try too!
Suzie Que
The best dinner so far in Waikiki. Loved it!
Corina Calsing
We just landed, checked into our hotel, and needed some lunch on a Sunday. We walked in to the development this restaurant was in. It's pretty polished. Even though there was a sign up saying they weren't taking walk-ins, we asked to sit at the bar and we're seated quickly. We shared a plate of fried rice with pork belly. We would have loved to have more of a crisp on the pork belly, but the flavor was good. Service was good. Cocktails were good. We were pleased all around with our lunch. No pictures because we were too hungry to wait to eat.
Timothy Fowler
The best food I had in Honolulu. I had a juicy steak. Nice wait staff.
Wil Samudio
A little expensive but all the food we tried was amazing.
JENNIFER ESKRIDGE
What a great hidden restaurant located inside a market. We enjoyed our breakfast so much we came back a second time during our 3 mornings we were in town. We ordered the Charcoal pancakes and meat/egg breakfast items to split. Absolutely delicious. We both had different flavored mimosas. Mimosas were heavy on champagne taste and very little juice taste.
Christina Johnston
Delicious food at this upscale restaurant and great service.
martin soto
Our dinner was impeccable! Casey our server was very knowledgeable and attentive (Beautiful too). I can't say enough about the food everything was on point! The bao buns, chicken wings, poke, Ny Steak, chocolate moose and cheesecake all were delicious! Great job on all ends of our meal. The drinks were beautiful and delicious! Definitely will be coming back!
Bethannie Richards
This was so awesome! The food is absolutely amazing. We had 4 people in our party and were able to try so many things. The pork belly buns are a must try! John was our server and he was THE BEST! I would definitely come here again. If you can plan ahead, get a reservation and try this!
Dominik Schwarzenberger
Great breakfast, very friendly staff and a refreshing cucumber cooler. I can also recommend the avocado toast, truly a signature dish.
Shawn Matsuda
Cool place for brunch and mimosas!
Tenesha Miller
Everything was spectacular!! We will return when visiting Hawaii again.
Sara Looks
the charcoal pancakes w guava syrup are to die for. perfect fluffiness.
Karoline Melo
The food is good, but definitely overpriced. The place is fine.
Jack Miller
Had their daily special - cold udon salad and fried chicken for brunch / lunch, delicious
Mege Augustus
This was delicious but I was disappointed with bartender,he was super nice to others but was ignoring me and my husband for orders .
iDo Drifting
NOT WORTH THE MONEY UNLESS MONEY IS NOT A CONCERN. I gave it a 3 because it was average I wanted to give it a 2 because there is absolutely nothing special here and I expected a lot more. Honestly I think the Spitfire grill had better food. We spent $110 for 2. I had a steak and my daughter had the catch of the day no appetizers. Water and a ice tea. I highly recommend you save your money.
Aisha Damian
Came for happy hour at the bar. Wow, the food was phenomenal! So much flavor and the portions were perfect for two. The Baja fish taco and beef fries are a must.
Justin Snider
Delicious food, great bartenders. Ask for the Manhattan flight.
Cody W
Best meals I’ve had in Hawaii
took ti
Live music in the evenings and good seatings. Better service and prices are more reasonable than the other “street food” down the street.
Ronald Button
It was one of places you just stumble on. Had searched for a good place for a good steak and made reservations...it looked good. Restaurant is in a small market. Long story short...two wonderful breakfasts and great steak & prime rib for dinner.
The meat omelette wonderful and the best eggs benedict around.
Remarkable Review OBM / PM
Stopped by for brunch with family. They have outdoor and indoor seating areas. This place is super cute. Upon entry, everyone was so friendly. It's like a market/ restaurant combo. If you're just visiting, I'm sure you'd find gifts for whomever. Now the for the food. The food was visually pleasing, fresh, and delicious. The fruit was perfectly sweet and crisp in all the right places. My sister got the Fresh Salmon Bagel but I was too slow on taking the photo. I cant say enough about the potatoes that I stole from the plates of others in my party. 😁 Definitely a spot I'll return to.
Brenda Valencia
Breakfast burrito, Loco moco, charcoal buttermilk pancakes
vu ng
Love their butter charcoal pancake, fresh fruit plate and coffee. The restaurant itself is very nice and service is awsome. I live on Oahu and eating there always give me a feeling that I'm on vacation!
Mark Bolton
The lunch selection was rather limited. The Chef’s Burger meat tasted like taco meat, which was a little odd. Waffle fries were incredible. The food felt rather overpriced for the restaurant to be situated in the back of a grocery store.
The charcoal pancakes looked good. Should’ve went here for breakfast. It’s not worth it otherwise in my opinion.
Alan Osman
Easily the best happy hour in Waikiki with $6 cocktails. Fantastic authentic service from the bartenders too.
Alvin K
Unique pancakes and average breakfast. Bit overpriced.
Jaxson Villa
Amazing food, good prices and the best staff in all of Hawaii. Consistently great food since the day they opened. Breakfast is cheaper than all of the chains and nearby competitors and way better. The rotating dinner specials are great and the online ordering is efficient. The staff is incredible and they all truly give effort. Catherine, Shayne and the rest of the team, thank you for all you do.
Victoria Lee
Basalt has both a quick take out option and a sit down dining restaurant. We wanted some we could walk up, grab and go,so did the take out. Food did take a bit of time but they gave us a buzzer to let us know when it was ready so we could browse nearby shops while waiting. We both got burgers and they were excellent. Better than your typical bun and the sauce on my swiss mushroom burger was very good. The curly fries were just right, crispy and delicious. Would eat here again to try out some of the other options.
Eddie WouldGo
John may be the best server/bartender on the island!
Fernie j Hernandez
Great breakfast selection and the coffee is great
Tricia Pearl
Add Basalt to your date list! Great place to go on a fun date. The food is high quality, different, and fun to try. My husband and I went on an impromptu brunch date here when our son had school and we had a day off work. We had a great time here safely seated a distance away from others outside. We shared the charcoal pancakes, a prime rib moco, with a lilikoi mimosa and French press coffee. The service was great, water always filled, and food arrived fast. Looking forward to our next date here.
aries bulda
Good food and easily accessible
Shawna B
Enjoyed the food very tasty. Prime rib, wings and fries.
bryan montano
So good everything is amazing
Gracie L
Best avocado toast I have ever had. Loved it so much I came back a second time during my trip just to get it again.
Kevin Karén Kljyan
Place was pleasant, nice outdoor seating, but they don’t how to make sunny side up, correctly.
Mai Emma
The charcoal buns offered at the beginning of the meal are FINE. I have never been so surprised by the flavor of melting butter in a bun like that before. However, all the the other dishes of them are okay, not too spectacular compared with the price. The miso black cod, poke, and the shrimp are salty, the steak is okay. However, their customer service is on point. Everyone is very nice and helful. I hope to try more of the menu next time I visit.
Yury H
Happy hour was great. Nice burger if that's what you're in the mood for.
Gerard Lee
A friend and I met at Basalt as dine-in ends at midnight for at least two weeks (but many of us think it will be longer). We started with Hendrick's and tonic, then tried to order the Spicy Kampachi Poke (a winner!) but they just ran out...so we ordered Ahi Poke and Rotisserie Duck Empanadas to start. The Ahi Poke was fine (but not special) and the empanadas were okay... I think the aged goat cheese overwhelmed the other ingredients (brandied cherry and pickled jalapeños). It was served atop what depicted as avocado lime crema but I thought I tasted mustard. We followed these up with the Pork Belly Buns...the pork was great and it came with pickled vegetables like a banh mi...it was served in charcoal bao buns; they tasted okay but the color was off-putting to me. All in all, a reasonable deal for good, but not special food. I've had better on prior visits...perhaps the fact that they were shutting down (again) due to the pandemic affected the food. The service was fine. Let's hope they're still around to re-open.
Andrew Choi
Can’t say much about Basalt. A very solid eatery. I’m not sure if this is a place I’d take people often but I’d come back for sure. I got some very nice take out, are on the beach. My dog forcefully pushed her way to the charcoal pancakes and made a huge mess. Delicious.
Sunny Doun
Had prime rib perfect, tasty, & generous. Have eaten here before & the service/food I ordered is excellent.
Patrick Lannan
Food is good, the atmosphere, meh
Service, ugh. Lawn furniture for tables and chairs if you sit outside (don't, it is on an alley) Inside you are in an actual market. okay for a quick bite.
Dario
Food is delicious! Staff is very friendly. We ordered the catch of the day, the steak, lobster bisque and the duck empanadas! Everything was quite tasty, it is overpriced, but it’s worth it, in my opinion. It’s a bit challenging to find a restaurant without a wait list in Waikiki due to COVID restrictions, so definitely make a reservation before you go. Their black bread is amazing as well. The drinks we ordered were a bit too sweet but other than that everything was nice.
Katherine Arnall
Delicious food and creative drinks! I especially appreciated the vegan options, and the food was amazing! They have some very interesting menu items, and the ambiance was cool! The service was great too, and we really enjoyed eating dinner here. Also, the rolls are great too!
Kevin Kemer
Prime rib was amazing, service was exceptional. Definitely worth a try
DS R
Stopped in for brunch after walking by and seeing they were open. Literally the only place still serving a decent brunch at 1130. Sat at the bar and Russ did an excellent job taking care of me. Had the prime rib loco moco and french toast. All the dishes were awesome as was the coffee. Service was top notch. Will return!
Keith Pettrey
Food was incredible.... prime rib fantastic, veggie linguine with shrimp, and rigatoni bolognese for my 11 year old was a huge hit. The charcoal bread has great flavor. Overall one of the top 3 dining experiences on the island
Scott Plagman
Had an amazing breakfast experience. This place gets very busy, I'd recommend showing up early or making reservations. The food and service was fantastic.
Alexander Vallar
Easily the best happy hour special on the entire tourist area of the island! The cheese platter was delicious and quite filling. Whatever the bartender recommends for you, please do it! It made for a delightful goodbye before boarding my flight back home.
Taylor Shimota
Great food! Had lunch with my family. Salads, sandwiches and wings. Everyone enjoyed. Thuy was an amazing waitress!
Joe Hussey
Food was outstanding and wait staff were timely, courteous, and responsive. Probably the best meal in Hi. Seafood and desserts were excellent.
Tea Didikai
The servers are friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is lovely. The poached egg was cooked to perfection, with a custardy yoke and solid white and I deeply respect any chef who can execute such a simple dish with such perfection. The fresh fruit was delightful, and well balanced. The charcoal pancakes were light, with just the right amount of chew. This place was wonderful.
Jackie Jones
I absolutely loved Basalt!! The waitress we had was awesome. I had the basalt breakfast and hubby the omelette and we both left very satisfied. Great location and validated parking if you park near Ross!!

My husband and I visited Basalt last night for happy hour. The drinks were amazing. Service fantastic .
This morning we returned for breakfast and our server Kalana, was awesome.
The service was great. Food selection was perfect and food delicious.
The COVID protection sanitation and cleanliness was impeccable.
Mahalo we will return!

Good (but overhyped) food, very slow service
Anna Lieb
Good food. My friends all loved it and would probably rate it higher.
What I didn't like was as someone who doesn't eat meat and can't eat gluten the options were severely limited. It's also listed as fine dining and it wasn't.
I still give it 4 stars because two of my friends who had their signature burger said it was the best burger they've had.
I would strongly recommend, but not for vegans or those with celiacs disease.

Food was certainly above average although the mixed grill lobster tasted a little off. With two appetizers, three drinks, no dessert and entrees for 5 people it was almost $400 which was a bit pricy for the ambiance and quality. Very good, and a good time, but a touch pricey for what it was.
Natalie May
Amazing breakfast/brunch spot. The food was incredibly visually appealing and tasted even better. Great mimosas with a wide variety of early cocktails. Perfect for every foodie.
Adelle Olds
Amazing food. Great service. Not cheap but worth it. Miso black cod was to die for. My husband had macnut fish and also said it was fab. Highly recommended.

Very pricey even with the takeout discount when you consider the portion sizes of the food. I expected the charcoal pancakes to have a flavor to them, but all they did was mess up my digestive system in a way I wasn’t expecting. They tasted good, but other than the picture opportunity some people want, there’s nothing special about it. The pork belly fried rice was so small! It should be advertised as a small pork belly dish with a side serving of fried rice. It was just such a small portion of the rice which is the cheapest part for the restaurant to make. Overall the hype I heard did not live up and while I didn’t think the meal was bad, I wasn’t satisfied and it was kind of meh.
Marty Lamb
Top notch breakfast. The charcoal pancakes are worth the visit.

Great place for breakfast. I had the meat omelet with home potatoes and an English Muffin and was not disappointed. Wife had an omelet with spinach and goat cheese. The provided this strawberry preserve that's house made; was excellent. The coffee was rich and strong and service was fast and friendly.

Great diner. We came here for breakfast and place was crowded for World Cup match.
Eggs Benedict was super delicious and service was perfect.
Located in a food hall.
Great draft beers on tap.
1 minute from International Market Place
Highly recommend

Great food, excellent service in a casual setting

Bacon fried rice under the Loco Moco is AMAZING!

This is a nice restaurant inside of a little market! Great atmosphere and nice live music the night we went.
I was expecting better food for the prices. Honolulu is expensive but the quality of our meals was disappointing. My burger was overcooked and everything was so so salty. Maybe an off night for the kitchen?
The server was really pleasant and accommodating but seemed a little bit rushed. He ordered us an extra appetizer we didn’t want and I wish he would have slowed down and reviewed our order back to us to confirm it.
Would try again another time.

Service was excellent, wish the food was too. It was good, but not for the price tag that came with it. We did restaurant week, so a pri-fixe menu. I got the seafood duo and my husband got the short ribs. The shrimp were overcooked and so was the mahi. The portions were very small, so I wouldn't recommend if you are really hungry. The rice was dry and lacked much flavor. The goat cheese cake was really good. Overall, you can get the same or better quality food for far less at many other places on the island.
Leslee O'Neal
Absolute perfection! Everything we liked on the menu we asked our server, Max's, opinion and we listened without regret. The spicy poke appetizer was the best poke dish I've ever had. The braised pork entree and the mixed seafood platter were delicious! We even tried the ice cream with the shortbread and savored every bite. We will be returning for breakfast for sure! Great service too!
Jose Ignacio Prieto
Very fine dining, excellent service. The best of our week in Honolulu. And also doesn't have a line outside.
Daryl Lee
Definitely a sleeper. I was not expecting the food to be that good! I had the prime rib and it was tender and flavorful, most of all the price was so reasonable. Wife had the Prix Fix menu and the miso cod and she said she liked it better than Roy's since it wasn't as oversauced and perfectly cooked. That's saying a lot since she always orders Miso Cod at Roy's. Other members of the party had the Prix Fix with steak and they loved it. This is owned and operated by ABC Stores, but the quality is fine dining but at a very reasonable price point. You aren't getting a romantic ambiance but the quality of the food for the price cannot be beat.
Joanna Wen
Awesome happy hour! Definitely one of the best deals in Waikiki. Hours vary for happy hour every couple months, but the drink and food selection is great. Their signature burger is fresh and juicy, the $7 beer+bump is also a steal.
MrBaconHawk
I have eaten at MANY high end restaurants in many states over the years. I am very picky when it comes to meat (steak and burgers especially) and I have to say, my experience at Basalt was definitely one of the best I've had at any restaurant in any price point. I don't say that lightly, hands down the best burger I've had.
Imagine crunching down on a perfect balance of savory, flavorful sauces on a freshly hot toasted bun, topped with crunchy greens and finished off with one of the juiciest and most well-balanced Wagyu beef patties I have had to this day. And keep in mind, this is just the Basalt Burger, not including the delicious desserts and to-die-for fries, the list goes on. The cost was VERY reasonable for the value and is very much worth the trip. If you're hungry and aren't sure where you want to eat, you will NOT be disappointed here. They are VERY much worth giving them a try, don't wait!

Omg the best egge benedict ever. Perfectly baked potatoes, amazing customer service.
Chris Limbrick
We finally got a chance to make it to this place (9:30 pm Saturday)... And we can say for sure that the food has the "Wow!" factor! We were amazed by the flavor in each dish. We had the adobo wings, shrimp/charcoal linguine, and the fresh catch. The bartender was informative and took care of us well. Will definitely recommend and return for more..!
rob remini
The prime rib and half chicken were excellent. However, the salad we had could have used a little more flavor. The pricing was fairly reasonable, and the staff was new but polite. The whiskey selection was excellent including all of Suntory's US offerings. The lack of the 5th star is due to the outdoor seating, it's in a an alley way where cars are constantly transiting, making it extremely loud.
noemie
Wagu hamburger is very delicious!
Olena Andrews
Amazing dishes. Very fresh and tasty.
Jasmin Chavez
one of my favorite places the best meat I tried and perfect attention
Romeo Cayetano
We went there for family dinner. As always, the quality of foods is exceptional. We ordered varieties on the menu and we like them all. Oh.. by the way, their charcoal dinner rolls is awesome. Would recommend this restaurant.
Paula Caravelli
Beautiful avocado toast with poached egg was a lovely lunch. Charcoal pancakes are good and super filling. A single pancake 'side' is also great and fills a large plate. Happy hour was really well priced but both the food and drinks were a bit disappointing. Overall a good and reasonably priced option for Waikiki.
Thomas Nettles
This is a great restaurant. First, it's visually appealing. Clean and modern, however very down to earth. My server Jane is one of the most pleasant people I've met in my 10 months here.
Jane was very attentive without being pushy. My food was delicious. It came to the table perfectly.
I'll be back for happy hour soon.

Worth getting a reservation at! Scallops were cooked perfectly, drinks were well mixed and service was well paced even though they were seemingly understaffed. Indoor and outdoor seating options as well, outdoor area was screened in by foliage and private feeling.
Jay Wells
My wife and I came here on a whim and have the most amazing experience thus far of our trip. Customer service is phenomenal, the food absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere is completely and totally relaxing! This was a win and we enjoyed the day
Jacqueline Washington
The service was excellent with attentive wait staff appearing at just the right moments and never interrupting a conversation as is so often the way. The food was equally excellent - the New York steak a very high quality cut and cooked to the 3 differing degrees as ordered by the table. The fourth of our party had the risotto, a more simple and yet tasty and properly prepared dish
Rhett Hedrick
Had breakfast here... lured in by the Avocado toast picture. The toast looks beautiful, but it was packaged guac on the bottom with a couple fresh slices on top. Super disappointing... especially at $15 a slice. The other food we had was good but nothing to write home about. I did not try the pancakes; people seem to come for here for them.
Cooper Hazzard
We went here as a family outing for Father's day. We have a 1.5 year old, and they were very baby friendly. Social distancing practices were followed well. The menu is solid, if a bit on the unhealthy side. The prime rib was awesome! I would give 5 stars, but the smallish menu and lack of healthy options keeps me from that.
Susan Williams
Fabulous food, casual atmosphere and a hidden gem. This is a great spot in Waikiki.
Spencer Atkinson
The atmosphere was great. Indoor and outdoor seating, cool jams, live music. Food and drinks were not so good. We went with family visiting from the mainland. They enjoyed it but we did not. They are acquired tastes for some of the food. The drinks were way too strong, and the portion sizes varied. We will not be returning.
Charles Storay
Every thing was wonderful, great food the waitress was wonderful, and the manager was so professional.
Jessica Milanovic
Traveled to Honolulu from Australia. I had breakfast here with my husband. Very clean, nice restaurant and had amazing food. Price was reasonable and we will be going back. I had the black lava pancakes and they were the best I've ever had and I've had pancakes from a lot of places. Restrooms were clean as well and the service was good. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
YoungJin Park
The waiter was friendly and food was very good. We ordered steak- it was overcooked so we had to wait a bit longer. Chef provided us with complementary appetizer! Service is nice and wine selection was also good
Alejandro Perez
Fantastic food in a casual and unique setting. My brother and I had the prime rib, and it was fantastic! The drinks are amazing and the service is top notch. Nobody at our table had a dish or drink that they didn't absolutely love.
Chris Allen
Don't miss. Bacon corn chowder and a signature dish of theirs, seared ahi with farro.
Char McGinnis
Love the atmosphere here. The staff is amazing and is very attentive. Food is delicious and has a couple of Filipino-inspired dishes like the pandesal with active charcoal and adobo chicken wings.
Stormin Chu
Quick and fast. Great service

My husband and I came to Basalt in time for the remaining happy hour on a Saturday evening. It ends at 6:00. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. He gave us the menus after we ordered our beers. Budlight is $3.00 during happy hour. I ordered the chicken adobo wings, pork belly buns and hubby ordered the fish taco. The food was served within 7 minutes after we ordered it. All tasted amazing! A young man was playing guitar and he sounded great! This place is great for happy hour! Nice atmosphere, good bartenders, good food and excellent servers!
Gwen Smith
Staff was amazing at this place. Food was very good but the drinks were made inconsistently. It almost seemed like the bartender was maybe new as we'd order the same drinks but there were different amounts of the ingredients every time and presentation was inconsistent. Very delicious food and amazing staff though. Recommended!
Cameron Griffin
When your in the area you definitely should swing in and grab a bite to eat. The servers were all very helpful, quick, and attentive. We’ve been in a couple of times and found out about the happy hour burgers which helped us save a couple bucks. Plus they cook to preference which most burger places in this range don’t do. They definitely go the extra mile.
John Faulcon
Basalt restaurant is absolutely fantastic! Food is prepared to perfection. Beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Jennifer Moseley
Went here with large group unexpectedly, for that they were very accommodating. The wait staff themselves were not fantastic. It took a significant amount of time for us to get our drinks although of the group only 5-6 were getting drinks. The portion sizes were small. They quoted the crab cakes served 4 yet they were pretty small sized cakes. The poke trio was marketed as being 3 distinct choices but when it arrived there appeared no difference in the poke. The food taste was good.

Charcoal buttermilk pancakes are pretty good, but my go to is basalt breakfast

One of the best happy hours on the island. Great food and super affordable. Turns into a fine dining restaurant at night which is a little weird given that it's in an open marketplace and the prices are higher than usual, even for fine dining on the island ($130 steak special, etc). But the happy hour is totally worth it. Outside of happy hour, Spitfire and Ono's Burgers share the same kitchen so you can order some of the happy hour menu and a little more at reasonable prices. This place is operated by the ABC company and they nailed it. Just one star off for the out of place, fine dining decision for dinner.
Tom Guarnera
Awesome service on the restaurant side. Group of nine and loved our server. Really good food. Had the best double-wide porch chop ever.
Veronica Alonzo
Came for dinner. Husband was craving ribeye and was extremely satisfied. I had the salad with chicken breast. It was yummy.

At first we were surprised that this location was in the back of a new store concept by ABC stores. It has a bar that seemed quite popular and tables in and outside. Upon approaching the hostess stand, we were graciously greeted by the hostess and one of the two managers on duty. We were were a party of five and promptly seated.
Appetizers: We had the salt & pepper shrimp and pork belly buns. Both were delicious. Husband loved the lobster bisque.
Entrees: We ordered all entrees family style. Seared hokkaido scallops were seared perfectly, braised pork shoulder was tender and flavorful, miso marinated black cod was soft, flakey and the veggie accompaniments were delicious.
They had a special on a wagyu tomahawk steak. We has it pre cut for sharing. The only issue I had was that we were not asked how we wanted it prepared and it came out med-well. It was still amazing, but we are steak lovers and med-rare to med would have been preferred.
Desserts: we were celebrating an anniversary and thst gave us a delicious light cake. We also ordered the lilikoi creme brulee which was good and a standard creme brulee. Grand marnier chocolate mousse cake was incredibly creamy and the favorite of the twenty year olds. The macadamia nut tart was like a dense pecan pie, loaded with macadamia nuts and very rich caramel creme. That was my personal favorite.
Service: the floor manager checked on us regularly. Our server was very attentive and was not afraid to recommend something if we missed a good choice. We personally love that. Everyone, even if not our server, was attentive and friendly.
Overall, highly recommend. Except for the steak prep (which was not a deal breaker), this place deserves 5 stars!! We will be back.
Phil Stripling
They updated the menu in September 2018. We went for a light supper-- cheese plate, charcuterie, and beet salad, which are all appetizers. $40 before tax & not including drinks. The service is still friendly. Our food was promptly served, and it was good. They have lots of steaks listed, and there's a happy hour that ends at 6:00pm with discounts on food and drinks. We'll be back to try more.

I loved volcanic pancake and the Portuguese sausages!
Rebekah Ellis
Some friends and I recently dined at Basalt for my birthday dinner, and I would recommend! The food was great, drinks were delicious, and our server, Michael, was fantastic. We were there on a Saturday night and really enjoyed the live music as well.
Taishi Fukuyama
The lobster bisque was very salty. Everything was okay. Service was great.

Some of the best food on the island. Totally worth the price
Look IntoIt
Every restaurant on the strip was an hr wait or booked and we ended up here and was I so glad we did. Best food I can remember eating 5 Stars isnt enough. Our server Carey was amazing! We ordered the Pork Belly, Beef Crokett, Duck Empanada, and Mahi Mahi Catch of the day. For dessert we ordered a Strawberry Roll.
Kevin Walker
The best part of my trip the people are great the food was on point . This guy is a whiz
Matt Simpson
Excellent breakfast menu. Charcoal pancakes were super tasty and the avocado toast was not only an amazing sight but delicious, especially when topped with a poached egg. Top it off with a mimosa and now you've got a complete breakfast.

No only great look but very tasty 😋👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 …

Great service by Juan and Michael! Personable and they did a great job to make sure we had everything we needed. Juan even brought extra napkins without us having to ask for them. The food was excellent in taste and presentation. All the cocktails were spot on and they even customized the cocktails to what we wanted which was a Hawaiian Mule; replacing the lime juice with pineapple juice. The venue made our girls night out a perfect gathering! We will be back!!
Selby
Always go here for the charcoal buttermilk pancakes and the beef short ribs dinner. Charcoal pancakes comes with a nice guava-strawberry glaze, and they'll customize the toppings based on certain holidays. I wish it would come with two stacks instead of three...I can never finish it all!
Ryan Wiederspahn
Did the Prix Fixe 3 course meal with Lobster Bisque, Mixed Seafood Paella, and Lilikio Creme Brulee. Food was delicious. The 3 course meal is a great value opposed to ordering things individually.
Rachel Peterson
BEST BREAKFAST in Waikiki. 5 stars is not enough for this restaurant for breakfast. The food is exceptionally fresh, coffee amazing and the staff extremely pleasant and upbeat. We loved it so much that we went back for happy hour the next afternoon - definitely recommended - $6 cocktails & cheap yummy eats... this restaurant is a MUST
Jennifer
We havea condo across the street and I was interested in trying this place for years as I pass by wonder. Finally went today and was less than impressed. I do not recommend the fatoush salad, which is marked as their specialty. It resembles nothing of fatoush and the ingredients lack presentation. It was a lot of chopped tasteless veggies, little dressing and a price tag that should at least include more than a side salad portion. I would give it 1 star but the waffle fries were some of the best I have ever had. They were 5 star. Maybe it was covid, maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But the fatoush is their claimed specialty.

Small portions but great food.

Fancy place with beautiful ambiance and excellent service! Our server was Max and his service was just exceptional. My sister and I absolutely loved their furniture and cutlery! The food in general was a little pricey, but then again pretty much anything in Hawaii is pricey anyway. We ordered medium rare New York stake, but it came to us medium done, which was fine--it still tasted good, and we felt the price was reasonable. The lamb chops, however, we felt wasn't worth the price. The texture of the meat and the flavor of the dish was exquisite, but we felt it was a bit too pricey for three pieces of lamb chops and a few potatoes. It tasted better than the steak though. The strawberry daiquiri was a bit bitter for our liking, but I guess that's probably how the drink really tasted in the first place anyway. Their charcoal pan de sal was the bomb though! Definitely recommend trying those! Best pan de sal I've ever had, considering we were born and raised in the Philippines and have been eating pan de sal our whole lives. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to everyone! I can't wait to try the other things on their menu again next time!
S Lucason
My dad, Grandma, and I loved this place- we went back a couple times on our short stay in Waikiki. The water is cold and filtered, which makes the coffee much better. Their portions are filling, and simple menu has just enough variety. The charcoal pancakes are wild and worth trying; get them with extra guava sauce :-)
Best of all, the staff are amazing. Brea, Sharon, and Ricky took care of us and were both super friendly and professional. They spoke up so Grandma could hear and made sure we had everything we needed.
Somya Arora
Absolutely amazing, must visit restaurant for breakfast!! The charcoal pancakes and Avocado toast were both beautifully presented as well as super delicious!!! Enjoyed the service and ambience too..
Jeremy Lum
Really great upscale place, with some creative designs for their plates.

We initially wanted to go to Marukame Udon right across the street but the line was longer than we were willing to wait in, and we have no regrets with eating at Basalt instead. Let me start by saying that all the food was AMAZING. We loved being able to sit outside in the warm weather - perfect night for dinner. The charcoal bread to start with was amazing, as was the rest of the food (we got the fresh catch, vegetable gnocchi, bulgogi bao) and mai thais. Delicious, would return again.
Victoria Thomas
I had every intention to take pictures of our food, I really did, but when it hit the table it looked so appetizing that we dug in and ate it all in our excitement. The food is fantastic!! We came in during happy hour and we will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend the happy hour.
Tanvi Nabar
The pancakes were yum. Omelette was average

Great food, and the charcoal pancakes are superb!

One of the The Best 3 restaurant and food in Oahu! Everything excels from flavor to presentation. All the ingredients are perfectly balanced to bring you one of the most amazing food experience! Tonight I order the fresh macadamia crusted catch of the day (Mahi-Mahi) with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes....Thank you Chef Keith for not adding salt to my meal! This dish definitely surpasses on flavor, quality and presentation similar meal I had at Merriman’s (#merrimanshonolulu) several weeks ago, where the presentation was gone and there was nothing special on the flavor.

Had a lovely dinner here on our last night in Waikiki. They start you off with these strangely delicious charcoal bread rolls. And for an appetizer, we got the cheese plate, and had the funkiest bleu cheese I’ve ever tasted, but overall it was good. For dinner, I had the veggie risotto and I was delectable! And the best part was that they carried my favorite wine, Belle Glos. A+

Miso Black Cod delicious. I love it Hawaii
