The trendy Effie's Place is very good, however, not worthy of the accolades I have heard. Yes, good location. Yes, friendly and helpful staff. Yes, very good homemade corned beef hash (Although, not $7.75 very good). The hash browns were terrible, just mushy potatoes, no seasoning, no onions, just a mushy potatoe, why bother? One of 2 of the eggs i ordered over easy was over medium. I had high expectations for this restaurant and they were not met. Effie's Place is still very good and worth a try.

Was pricey for the quality of food. I heard a lot of great things about the homemade hash but I can say with some certainty that it's better canned. They're having an unfortunate adjustment period where the prices you're paying aren't matching menu prices too. Service was pretty slow. There's a few diners in the same zip code that are selling the same or better quality food for about 10-40% cheaper.

My husband and I were recommended by friends to check this place out . Let me tell you the food is delicious and fresh. The atmosphere was so welcoming and gave a home vibe. And the service was the best we have had, compared to other restaurants. My husband and I ordered the mozzarella sticks ( so yummy) and the Buffalo wings that were fresh 😋. We had the broccoli cheddar soup- the best soup . And of our main course , husband had the meatloaf and he loved it . I had to 8 Oz steak well done and it was not dry, nice and juicy. For drinks my husband had the wine and I had the seasonal Mimosa. I forgot the name of it but it was blue with a sugar rim . I loved it ! My husband and I are picky about our restaurant foods, and Effie's hit the spot,I mean even the coffee there is good. I highly recommend this place. The waiter, Jerry was on point with service, he was nice and made us feel welcome. Definitely coming back to Effie's for round 2 and this time I am going to get dessert ( the lemon pie). Thank you Jerry for the excellent service! Wish I took pictures to show how beautiful the food was. Next time I will.

Basically a diner that focuses on breakfast and lunch. I enjoyed their special of pumpkin pancakes with white chocolate chips. While very tasty, they were very big and wish they offered them as a short stack. Maple syrup does cost extra but comes in a little bottle so I was able to take home what wasn’t used. My wife enjoyed her eggs Benedict and the service was good. I’d probably come back here if I’m in the area again.

My friend and I have been there several times over the years. We went there for breakfast. It was okay. In comparison to what you get at other locations in West hartford, however, it did not meet my expectations. The staff we had was very friendly and accommodating. I would not discourage anybody going to Effie's for food, as the food I've had in the past, meaning the meals lunches have been great. But in terms of the breakfast I had I was not impressed.

We stopped here because it offerd breakfast all day long. The four of us ended up getting breakfast with coffees, and it was a little bit pricey. I will say that if you're in the area, it's a good place to stop, but I don't think I would drive back up there just for breakfast. Perhaps the lunch menu is better?

My boyfriend and I live close by. We love a good diner, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the food at Effie's, despite the lovely staff. I ordered breakfast. He ordered a burger. He chose correctly it would seem, because he said his burger was excellent. My eggs and homefries were cooked fine but were incredibly bland, like the cook wasn't adding salt at all. They also cost more than nearby Quaker Diner or Bob & Sally's by a good amount. I just can't see why I would return for an overpriced, under-seasoned breakfast. Our hostess and waitress were great. I might come again and try a sandwich, but this won't be our breakfast spot.

Busy local breakfast spot with friendly wait staff. A nice clean diner with a family atmosphere. They also do take out or delivery with DineInCt or Door dash. The only issue is parking.

Nice place to sit and eat, a very casual dinner with friendly staff and good food. I have been there three times and the food and service is consistent. Even at busy lunch time, the staff is great at acknowledging us, taking our order's and bring our food out in a very short amount of time. The waitress always swings bye to ask how we are doing and to freshen up coffee/tea. Like everything else, prices are high..$42.75 for two plates of scrambled eggs, sausage & home fries, plus our coffee. An order of scrambled eggs and a pancake for our little boy. BUT..whe you consider the garbage they serve at you local drive through for breakfast or lunch and how expensive they have become, you are better off spending a few extra dollars and eating great food in a nice atmosphere. The money we save by skipping visits to McDinkeldorfs, Burger fling & other fast-food chains allows us to eat at Effies a couple time a month. Enjoy!

Came to Effie’s for Sunday breakfast. Service was friendly and our food came out quick. I tried the crab & avocado scramble and thought it was ok. I think it lacked some seasoning/flavor. We’ve come for breakfast a few times and it’s good but haven’t been blown away.

First time and was impressed! Excellent menu choices, it was hard to choose. Breakfast choices served all day. Thought it was clean and service was good. The homemade coconut cream pie slice was really delicious!! Not many places offer pasta primavera- it’s the dish I had chosen and it was awesome. Love that they offer small vs large portions; want to go back soon!

I ate the flounder (bland). My wife loved the Greek sampler and my mother in law had chicken with olives. Latter two dishes were rated excellent. Took home two slices of homemade chocolate cream pie which was superb and cost $5 per piece. Everything was generous portions. Forgot to mention a delicious appetitezer of a mix of soft cheeses melted inside a filo dough crust. Service good. Food good

I was referred to Effie's via Google search because my favorite diner Mo's Midtown is closed for owner's sabbatical reasons. So I decided to give a new spot a chance. There is off street parking. The inside of the diner is very warm and inviting. The young waitresses were semi rude (saw me and did not greet) however, the hostess was excellent! My waitress, an older woman was awesome. My rating of 3 stars is because: the non greeting from the waitress that saw me first, and the food taste & presentation. The food presentation was not appealing. My coffee cup, for starters, had dust around the rim. I asked that my home fries be well done but not burnt, they were burnt. I'm an egg junkie, and unless they use small eggs, that was NOT 3 eggs that I ordered. I wanted them scrambled and it was presented on my plate as if it were an omelette 🧐 and lastly, the French toast was nothing more than regular sandwich bread that was bland, no flavor, no cinnamon not sugar. The syrup helped none at all. I would recommend this spot to senior citizens to eat or those that don't have special requests. I would not recommend this spot to those that are particular foodies such as myself.

Wish I can give 5 stars. Today was my second time ordering here. The customer service was horrible. The first time I ordered here there was a girl with beautiful red hair excellent customer service. I called in my order again the second time. This young lady was very unprofessional. I stated I wanted the “big breakfast” which she thought she heard “the breakfast” then says “which breakfast “puts the phone down and mocks me to someone else and starts laughing. At least put the phone on mute. The food was good but I’m not eating here ever again hiring an immature girl to take orders over the phone no thanks. After that I definitely wouldn’t sit in there now.

The place is cute and compact. It is famos, many people were coming and going. The food is average both in looks and taste. Found this place little expensive. The waitress was good initially and lost interest in serving us eventually. Service was super quick. We were not full so ordered another dish which was given to us - to go - without us saying that we need it to go. May be they don't want us there. So, 3/5 from us 🤝.

Just moved into neighborhood and this is a very wonderful welcome. It's more expensive than you might expect but the cooking exceeds expectations too. Old school dinner menu in a very quaint building that feels like a grandparent's home. It works! Comfort food in a comfortable setting. Good wait staff too.

Nice brunch under an umbrella on the patio. Lox with my bagel was perfectly salty and smoky. Bagel and cream cheese was DD-grade (nothing special). Service was good. Prices were reasonable.

They have the best Omlette in town. Staff is very friendly. I went one Saturday morning to pick up my breakfast I order. Place was very packed. When I got home I noticed they gave me the wrong order. I called and told them they messed my order up. They quickly apologized and said they was training someone. That they will redo my order. I went like 5 min later and they had my food ready. And even gave me free dessert. There just the best very professional and friendly staff.

Great house made spanakopita. The menu has a great variety of good options. Clean. Our server was awesome even though we came in 30 min before closing. Sole was great, garlic feta fettuccine with added shrimp and chicken wasn't cheap but was terrific. Nice family oriented Greek restaurant I'll be back.

Had a Ruben sandwich, my sister in law ordered the Flounder Casino, both were excellent. Brought home the Swiss Mushroom burger for my husband and he loved it. The desserts are homemade, we had blueberry pie and chocolate chip cookies, both were great. Fast friendly service. Will definitely be back.

I have gone for breakfast in their outdoor dining. The first time we were seated in the tent in the front and while food was good and service was good. The 2nd time we were seated in the back and completely ignored. When the food finally arrived it was like warm. I give it 3 stars because in a Covid restrictive climate we need to be understanding that these business are operating under very difficult circumstances

Effie's Restaurant is a true hidden treasure in Ct. Not only is the food first class but the service and prices are top notch. You would be hard pressed to find another diner or establishment to come close in bringing a hometown feel comparable to what they give to their customers. Really looking forward to getting Benedict with nice runny egg. Instead got more of a hard boiled egg with hollandaise sauce. The homemade corned beef hash was delicious on the other hand & The food came out quickly.

TLDR: It was fine, probably wouldn't go back. I went to Effie's Place for brunch yesterday. We were greeted by a hostess on her phone who half-directed us to a set of tables. I wasn't sure if she was telling us to pick a table or to go to a specific one, but we sat down and she brought us waters. There was a coffee spill on the table so we cleaned it up ourselves. The hostess remained sitting in a booth while we were there, sighing when she had to get up to answer the phone and rudely addressing customers coming in. However, our waitress was great, she was friendly, attentive and checked up on us throughout the meals despite some demanding customers that were there at the same time. The food was also good - I had Texas French Toast (excellent), eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. Since I don't like peppers, I wasn't a fan of the hashbrowns but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be delicious to someone else. Our bill was more expensive than if we'd went to AC Petersen, but fair enough for weekday brunch. As we left and walked past the host, she didn't acknowledge us at all (no bye or thanks for coming in) - just kept staring at her phone. Overall, Effie's Place was fine but I didn't have a *wow* experience. I think I would head somewhere else for brunch next time I head out.

I had been dying to visit and I finally got the chance. I treated my mother in law there for breakfast and it was both our first time. The place is cute and quaint, the people are friendly and nice and the food was delicious. We will be back for dinner. This is definitely a recommended choice.

Excellent Sunday breakfast. I had the scramble with tomato, spinach and feta...all fresh ingredients, and great hash browns. One suggestion: wait staff should describe the specials. We were 5 in a booth and 3 of us had our backs to the board where the specials were described and didn't know it.

A pleasant departure from the nearby chain restaurants. Advertised as American/Greek, I opted for the spanokopita or Greek spinach pie. The filo was perfectly done and the spinach, mushroom and feta filling was delicious. It was served with a Greek salad as a side, but more salad was placed next to it on the plate. The rest our party opted for the American food, but again, there was no complaints over the cuisine. Gluten-free bread is available upon request. Family-owned since the 1960s and taken over by another branch of the family in 1990, Effie's consistently gets " Best Of " marks in the local media. Servers were friendly and efficient. Their large menu is able to meet the culinary expectations of every patron.

Chose this place for lunch yesterday, and it exceeded my expectations. Probably the best chicken gyro I've ever had. The Greek salad was fresh (dressing was amazing) and the hummus was perfect. The staff is friendly and quick. Will definitely be back.

We loved everything ordered, which ranged from a two eggs over easy breakfast to California style eggs benedict, to a Greek omlet. Coffee was good also. Wonderful friendly service. Nice cozy atmosphere. It was also pleasure not eating in a cookie cutter chain restaurant. We like supporting locally owned businesses. We will definitely be back.

This is a classic family place. Good diner food, friendly staff, what more do you want in a diner, really? I've ordered lots of things from the menu and everything's been great. I picked up a tip from a friend: if you order the breakfast sandwich, definitely get it on the grilled croissant and definitely add homefries. Delicious.

Effie's is a great family run place to eat. We had breakfast when we went. Pricing is reasonable, staff friendly, food aas great, wait was short to be seated and service was quick after ordering. Effie's falls short of 5 stars because of the seating. The tables were so close together It felt intrusive . I understand that you try and get as much seating as possible, but this may be just a table or two too much.

Okay food, nothing exceptional. They have "special homemade" corned beef hash that the waitress upsold me & I trusted her was better than normal (presumably canned). It was barely any corned beef & almost all dry potato chunks and onions. If you're looking for home fries, it would've been pretty good.

Effie's is a solid, local restaurant on Park Road. You'll get a friendly welcome, a good cup of coffee and a great breakfast (and I'm sure lunch and/or dinner, too). Easy parking on the street (I don't use the lot in the back, it's tight) and outside seating, too! Don't hesitate if your party suggests Effie's. You'll enjoy it.

I've been here a few times. I'm gluten intolerant so always nice when they have options for me. They're GF pancakes are delicious. On the weekends this place is busy so parking stinks, just be prepared. Service has always be quick and friendly. EDIT: Unfortunately I learned that all their GF options are made on shared equipment. This is not okay for people with serious gluten intolerance issues. They should make this known upfront. I can longer eat here =(

Very expensive for a "family" restaurant. Food was OK but not anything special. I had the fish & chips. The fish was decent, but the chips (potato chips, not fries) while freshly made had no seasoning. Unsalted chips might as well be cardboard. $19 for 2 pieces of fish is out of line.

Service was very slow.. coffee was just ok..the raisin french toast was three pieces of thinly sliced bread and not enough to feed a grown person and the pancakes were tough. We were disappointed.

Wonderful service and great food. Easily able to get a table at 1130am Sun morn....usu unheard of in WH on wknds. Server did a great job at answering a technical question regarding bread. Also have GF alternatives for not only regular bread, but also pancakes, waffles and french toast. Outside seating with umbrellas. Nearby AC Peterson's for ice cream afterward.

Effie's is what a family restaurant should be. They have a "diner" like menu but Eddie's is much more. The staff are all wonderful and it's comfort food at it's finest. They have specials daily so I am sure you will always find something you like. Everything is great!

Today I had a very interesting experience..... This whole covid thing has made life interesting to say the least. Trying to bring a bit of normalcy back into life, my boss and I were going to order some lunch from one of our favorite local spots: Effies! I didn't even need to look at the menu - I knew I wanted a corned beef ruben sandwich on rye bread. We work at a very busy automotive repair shop (Talcott Transmissions on Talcott Road) so we used DoorDash for their delivery services. After an hour, we still hadn't received our order. I tried to reach out to the driver via the app, but was unable to contact them. So I called up Effies to let them know that we indeed still wanted our food, but we couldn't get a hold of the driver or anyone at DoorDash to see what was going on. The lovely young woman that answered the phone understood our plight, and said that if we were able to get a hold of anybody to then give her a call back so she could make our food again fresh. Honestly, what a kind gesture!!! Well, after about another 40 minutes of trying to get a hold of anyone via DoorDash, this lovely young woman called to say that SHE was able to get through to someone and that they will be sending another driver and she is making us some fresh food. SHE called! Now that is customer service!! The new driver came with our food in no time and my sandwich, and my boss's food was sooo good. The food is always top notch at Effies, but today it was gold star superb! I can't stress this enough that Effies is the place to be whether you need a cup of coffee, or a big ol plate of meatloaf! Just do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE DOORDASH.

Came here for a late dinner. Coming in we did not expect much, we were wrong. It is a Greek diner so we went with the spanikopita and hummus platter to start. Hummus had bright clean flavor, spanikopita was amazing. We had beef gyro for entree. The pita was warm, fluffy and crisp. Beef was perfectly tender and marinated just right. Great price for an impressivr meal. Lots of choices but the Greek items seem to be the gem worth ordering.
