It's divisive - you'll either love it or hate it. Dining in at Ashley's is a bit like if Jack Bauer were on Cheers. The atmosphere is fast-paced and a little chaotic but with the hometown feeling of familiarity. The food is nothing extraordinary, standard American breakfast - it's a diner but it doesn't seem to front itself as anything more than what it is. As an out-of-towner I get the immediate impression it's a neighborhood favorite, but if you're a tourist - you may be expecting something very different from a highly rated diner in the heart of Hartford. I see a lot of negative reviews that mention customer service - I recon this has to do with expectations. Don't expect full table service - this is a quick-order place that honestly doesn't really do table service. If you need something you gotta just not be shy and ask, you just can't expect table service. Very small on the inside, a handful of booths and a bar to sit at (no alcohol on the menu). The staff is incredibly hard working and it clearly giving it everything they've got - I was there on a server's first day but he still killed it. (I see you white buzz-cut man!) Only four stars because cleanliness is something to be desired - the kitchen is open and quite clean, my utensils were delivered in hot water and the chef wore gloves zd but the staff has never seen a mask at the height of a global pandemic. :/

10.22.22 We parked right up front on the street. It wasn't really busy when we showed up. Several 1 person and a couple, couples. Our coffees came fast and service was fast. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Food also came out super fast and good portions for the price. Overall a great experience.

This is one of my favorite breakfast places. I go here with my girlfriend from time to time. It’s really simple and small but the vibe is just right. Expectations are realistic, prices are totally reasonable and I always enjoy my meal. We had a tuna sandwich and Ashley’s Special 2 for lunch. (Well brunch) service is always quick. The only suggestion I would have is that they really should take payments at the table. You have to get up to pay at the front register.

This is food that brings you back to a childhood in which you might have had breakfast at a small establishment after Sunday mass. One of my favorite breakfast spots is here. Sometimes, my girlfriend and I visit this place. It's quite modest and straightforward, yet the atmosphere is perfect. Prices are very reasonable, expectations are reasonable, and I always love my lunch.

It's uncomplicated breakfast at a homely diner. What more can I say? Oh yeah. I had very fluffy pancakes with tasty sausage links, and freshly brewed coffee. The staff is kind and attentive, making you feel like a local, no matter where are you from. A wonderful place to start your day.

Nice dinner like feel to this place. Good service and typical diner taste and flare. Not too busy Saturday morning. Prices are a little higher than the Waffle House prices. I tried the big breakfast for $12 you get 2 eggs pancakes, sausage,bacon, potatoes and coffee. Local hang out.

Food was great, staff was friendly and helpful. The lady who's part of the staff from Greece was so nice and a real treat to meet. Location is a little questionable but that's the only downside of the restaurant. From the front doors in, it was a very good experience.

I wasn’t so sure about this place when we walked in - it was cold and hole-in-the-wall looking, but we were hungry and I had a grumpy five year old with me, so we decided to give it a go. Wow am I glad. The best part about our experience by far was our server, Ben. He was so sweet to my son, and really went above and beyond to make him feel special and to make all of us feel taken care of. The food tasted great - my partner and I both got the Ashley Melt, and it was just what we needed to get through our day of traveling. This place is very much not a five star dining experience, but it’s a great place to pop in for a bite when you’re just looking for somewhere with chill, easy vibes.

Overall, this place is a nice spot to get breakfast or lunch in a central part of Hartford. There was a steady flow of people in and out so that was a good sign. But there are some things that I took note of... We moved to Hartford about 2 weeks ago, and this is the first restaurant we ate at for breakfast. Since this was our first time, we didn't know to seat ourselves (there was no sign) so we stood awkwardly in the entrance for a couple of minutes. The place wasn't overly busy, plenty of tables still open, no one acknowledged us or greeted us. When we decided to seat ourselves, no one came to the table for at least 10 minutes. But when someone finally came to our table, they were very friendly! We ordered a typical breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns) and it was fine. Afterall, it's hard to mess up breakfast.

If you look up the definition of a “hole in the wall” I think you’ll find this restaurant. The service was friendly, positive and fast. The food was very fairly priced, with nice specials and combo meals. The food arrived quickly and was very good. Their potatoes were well cooked and had good flavor.

Good food, great service, fast order delivery and everything was hot and ready to eat. We got there around 2 pm and you could tell they'd been busy as the place we were sitting had some residue on the floor from previous guests. Benjamin was just fantastic and fun as well as efficient and thoughtful. We're glad we found Ashley's and we will be back

Very nice, welcoming, clean diner with extremely friendly staff and solid food at very good prices. Best food on my one visit included the french toast, eggs, toast and home fries. Pancakes were bland according to my nephew who had them. Coffee was very good. Comfy, homey atmosphere.

Husband and I went here on a whim for brunch while passing through. Great little place. There were plenty of people there, but not crowded and no wait. We came here for breakfast while passing through Hartford and we were blown away by the quality of the food. The eggs were some of the best we’ve had, flavorful and rich. The bacon was crisp and savory, and it wasn’t deep fried like a lot of places do it. Everything had the feel of eating home-cooked for the way you might get at your grandma’s house as a kid. Don’t pass on this one if you’re in the area!

Although i didn't take any pictures i can ASSURE you Ashley's Restaurant is that Great homemade kinda food! I went here ONE time On a Friday early afternoon the place was outstandingly clean you can sit on the stools or in a both the cook is right there making all orders!! The home fries are fresh potatoes coffee was great the toast was perfectly toasted and the French toast was Perfectly cooked. I'm hooked I'll be going back 100% i didn't even know anything about Ashley's I'm happy my boyfriend new about it from years ago when he use to go with his great friends patty and June. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 stop in you'll be glad you did!

I’ve been dining at Ashley’s for over 10 years. They recently partnered up with Ubereats, well today I decided to order through Ubereats. The driver is on his way to pick up my food, I called the restaurant to make minor adjustments to my order. The restaurant tells me the driver picked up my food, however I get a notification that my order was canceled. The driver never notified me, instead he texted that he was on his way to doing the delivery!! I contact the restaurant and they were very professional and understanding, that I had been waiting an hour, was starving and couldn’t leave my office. So they delivered my food , added a soda and a cookie. This local/family restaurant truly outdid themselves with customer service. I definitely recommend them ☺️

I am embarrassed to say for how many years I drove past Ashley's, thinking it was just a place for grab-and-go coffee. When a friend finally got me in there, I immediately regretted all the times I failed to enter this charming piece of heaven in Hartford! First of all, they get major points for having their chef out in the open - you can see everything he is doing! What a treat to sit at the counter and watch this man work. There are also booths and tables in Ashley's, or you can get your breakfast or lunch to go. But why would you not want to eat in here? The staff is so friendly, you will immediately feel like they are your long-lost cousins. The food is excellent, with good-sized portions, and the prices are very affordable. I love this little place - it's like home!

Ashley’s is an amazing place. Ashley herself is a wonderful woman. I was down in Hartford for work and wanted to grab a small breakfast before my meetings. I sat down and was greeted with a smile and very nice service. She told me her story and how she ended up with her restaurant. The food is great, but the people are better. I will certainly be back!

Was looking for a new Sunday morning place. Searched the web, came across this place. The lady that worked there was sweet and took care of my to go order quickly and with a smile. Good prices and great portions. Most places will give you 2 slices of bacon and call it a day. Ashley's hooked it up. The food was delicious a perfect fill up for Sunday before work. Will be seeing them next Sunday!

Good, quality food. Half the staff weren’t wearing mask at all. None of the guest were wearing masks. Tables that were crossed out for social distancing were full of people. If you want food from here, get take out or delivery. Also, they cook everything on the same grill and use the same spatulas to cook raw meats and potatoes and other foods so if you’re a strict vegetarian, go somewhere else.

Well my experiences with Ashley's span my entire adult life have enjoyed my initial breakfast in 1981, that's right! Several changes in short order preparers, of course changes in wait staff, however the welcoming atmosphere(led by the mother of the klan)who is sharp and makes you feel you are her favorite guest. Good, hot, made to order breakfast food, prepared right in front of you and if breakfast is not enough to hold you come back for lunch. Sometimes it is because time takes it's time quality businesses committ itself to the community and everybody wins. Long live ASHLEY'S!

The did was amazing. While I was eating my French toast Morgan Freeman walked in and queefed in my face. It was glorious. I felt the air hit my face so it was definitely real. If you ever find yourself missing home, when your grandma was up early making breakfast the old fashion way this place wont disappoint. Ashley's gives you good food at decent prices. She used to be all over the place when it came to prices and you never knew how much an omelet was going to be on any given day, but now she has technology on her side in the form of a debit/credit card reader and now her prices are stable. The atmosphere is very laid back. you want a coffee, you get it , you want water , you get it ,and your ice too. Breakfast is my favorite because it feels like it was made at home and the food never lets you down. Now, i hate to say this because I've known Ashley for years and she is the sweetest, nicest old lady that makes breakfast for a living. But, there is a slight issue of being sanitary. While she does wash her hands regularly, she does tend to handle all the food with her hands (just like grandma). I like to think that its the price we pay for the authentic grandma experience. Two stars would go back up if she kinda started wearing gloves, I'm just saying ! That aside i still go back every week, and you should too.

I've been visiting (working in) Connecticut for a month now. Absolutely wonderful experience out here on the East Coast. Of the top 5 things that I will truly miss, when I return to Wyoming, is Ashley's. The breakfast, which reminds me of my late Grandma's cooking, has been an enjoyable experience each time I have visited Ashley's. I'm having breakfast every Sunday morning, at Ashley's, while I am in Connecticut and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. This is not a fast food restaurant it's a "home cooked breakfast experience". Six ☆`s

Right between my job and home I stop here for breakfast whenever I work early or get out from third shift in the morning. The only thing that beats homemade waffles for breakfast, is homemade waffles for dinner. I love Waffles.

Family favorite. Local spot. Been coming here since I was a kid. Known by most as Mrs.Ashley (actually granddaughters name) she is a force in the kitchen. At one point running this little place on her own; never a disappointment. Warm inviting atmosphere where you can grab a harty breakfast or quick lunch. Breakfast sandwiches are a big hit Grits- good / would ask for cheddar, comes with American Chicken and waffles(new) house made waffle w/ chicken tenders - tasty waffle, chicken tenders (frozen) are juicey and seasoned correctly Pancakes- big puffy clouds that melt in your mouth. Plenty of delicious options and yes they take major credit/debit cards

Friendly service but really really really slow. Restaurant a little dirty, dusty, especially on the decorations. Food, very greasy, just ok for lunch. Waffles, pancakes and French toast are served with corn syrup and it is impossible to have maple syrup. The restaurant seems to have its following of loyal regulars who forgive it everything, including the city police, who do not pay for their order and who are served first.
