Had a fantastic time with Jordan, our chef and Jayden, our server! They both are great at their job and have great sense of humors. The food and presentation were above and beyond expectations! Even made new friends Mark and his gal Alex, too bad we didn't get their last name(s)... Highly recommend! BE ON TIME!!

First time there, we went to celebrate my birthday. It was a last minute decision and when I called over the phone they said it'd be an hour wait and they recommend reservations months in advanced. Well, we still went, as it was my birthday and it was special enough to wait whatever necessary. Walked in to put us on the waitlist and a party of 4 had not shown up at their expected time, so we were actually sat right away. I don't know if it was birthday luck or just great customer service, but I was very happy. Our chef "Deadpool" (lol that was an inside joke you'd only understand at this table) was very entertaining, not with spatula flipping and making sounds but, meh, who needs that lol, even better he had great conversation and jokes throughout the whole meal. He had the whole table laughing and interacting wich I loved! He cooked us a Great meal and was attentive with the kids sitting at the table. Our server Fabi was excellent. She was on point with drinks, plates and very sweet, she was awesome with the kids. Would love to have her as our server when we go back. We loved them both. I have 0 complaints about this place. Great food, great service, great experience, I had a great birthday! Will definitely be back to celebrate another one or any special occasion. Ohana did not dissapoint!

Always a fun place! They put on a great show, the service is always attentive, & the food is top notch! Everything here is served teppanyaki style meaning the chef comes out & makes it right in front of you at the table usually while putting on a show consisting of highlights of his skill with the utensils & some jokes to make you chuckle. All the food here is made with an Asian flare & is absolutely delicious! They also offer a little birthday celebration where the person having the birthday gets a dessert & your chef that evening comes out & does a photo with that person. It's always a fun time & delicious meal!

The food is the best I have ever had! They do great tricks with the food and make you laugh! it is kind of expensive but I think it's well worth the price! I want to go there every night. It's a lot of food which (usually) gives me lunch for the next day. And the kids get ice cream at the end

I've been coming here with my family for years! We had the best meal here EVER earlier this week. Our cook Joe was fantastic: he was friendly, conversational, and added just the perfect amount of seasoning on all of our food. We'll be requesting him next time we visit! Side note: I just got back from Japan and got to experience a yakiniku-style restaurant for the first time (where you cook your own food at your table), which is kind of the reverse of a teppanyaki-style restaurant like Ohana Steakhouse where your food is cooked by a chef at your table while performing a few tricks along the way.

Ohana Steakhouse is truly a diamond hidden in the rough in Des Moines. With good food, good people, and even better service its truly a great place to go to. Ever heard of the expression come for the food, stay for the entertainment? Ohana Steakhouse, Im sure, is an example of such a saying. Their specials are nice as well! In short, I highly recommend. We decided to dine in and make the most of the experience. Our oldest has never been to a hibachi restaurant so we want to treat him to something new. He enjoyed the show and the food. The chef at the table did a great job. He was friendly, engaging, and was exactly I expected. Of course the food is always larger portions than you expect. The rice, the veggies, everything adds up by the time the meal is over and we all left very full and with leftovers. Great place and we’ll definitely be heading back.

This was, by far, one of the best experiences I have ever had during dinner. The chef was impossibly talented, the servers were nice, and the drinks were well made (according to my date). I had the lobster platter, and my SO had the scallops, and everything was well done. Our host for the night was very funny, making every moment funny and providing entertainment for the whole group. The pricing was good too, being only about $100 even after buying some of the most expensive stuff on the menu. I recommend this to anyone who likes Asian food. My only advice: please.make a reservation.

This is a must visit place if you are in the area. We intended to viait the reataurant next door and saw this place. The friendly staff greeted us and explained the so ing experience. It sounded great and ended up fantastic. Our chief was fun and talented. He made the whole experience memorable. The price was significantly less than other similar places around the country. You leave full and entertained. This was a great dining experience.

Wife and I try to eat here for our anniversary every year, but the last couple years have been difficult. We were able to make it this year and we're delightfully surprised to be served by "The Guy" himself; Cy!! He was so entertaining and the food, as always, was 2nd to none!!! This establishment is a "MUST" for anyone who enjoys the atmosphere of a Japanese Steakhouse!

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants. We go here every year for my mom's birthday. The chefs are always fun and keep you entertained for the entire dinner. The scallops and scallop sauce are TO DIE FOR. It may be a bit on the pricy side, but it is well worth it. I would eat here everyday if I could!

This was our first time at Oshana Steakhouse. Our family recommended Ohana during our stay in Des Moines (we are visiting from West Palm Beach). The host/waiter set the scene with great and speedy service. He was very friendly and attentive. The chef who prepared our meal was very friendly and engaging and most of all, very entertaining! This is a great place for guest of all ages. The food was excellent! I definitely recommend the scallops and the smoked Filet (a special on Tuesdays)!

Took our kids here last night for their birthday’s and so glad we did! What a great time we all had!! Everyone from being greeted, seated and our waiter were absolutely wonderful.. Cy our chef, *( also that same guy you see in the tv commercial)* was absolutely amazing and made our dinner experience so much fun! He really did put on a nice show for us and our food was so flavorful and everything tasted absolutely exquisite.. We will definitely be back! :)

Took my son here for his B-Day in a party of 8. Food was beautiful and yummy. Overall, a positive experience. Close to home and free parking. We will return many times in the coming future. Across from Valley West Mall and other shopping experiences in the West Des Moines area. Give it a try!

We have been back numerous times. Per usual, we've always enjoyed the wait staff here. Food is decent (wished the noodles came earlier). They used to do their daily specials (Sun - Thurs), two meals for $30. They recently increased to $45 which really does not make it a special anymore. I realize with the pandemic food prices increased but this is a steep increase. We're pretty bummed. We'll just make fewer visits.

Everyone in my family loves this restaurant, and chooses it for “birthday dinners”. Everyone is always impressed with the fresh food, great service, and consistency in amazing cooking. We would highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Also, very great options for everyone. My family member is allergic to preservatives, and is able to eat here without any issues, because they only use fresh food! I am vegetarian and am always thrilled to go here.

Amazing service and food! Sooo much food! Yum Yum sauce is made in house and was delicious. We are in Iowa from Oklahoma for a wrestling tournament and looked up Hibachi and the reviews were great so we decided to try. I'm glad we did! "Tina" was our server and a guy in donut pants was our cook. A few of the wait staff was dressed for Halloween which was fun to see. We will definitely visit again when we come back next year. Thanks Iowa Ohana!!

This was our first time at Ohana. We've been to similar restaurants so we had a good idea of what to expect, and Ohana far exceeded our expectations. We had great service, amazing food, and an overall fun experience. Our chef said he has worked at Ohana for 21 years. You could tell he loves his job and takes pride in what he does. His suggestions were perfect! I can only eat small amounts at a time so I have a ton of leftovers... but my husband eats a normal amount and didn't come close to finishing his food either. You definitely won't leave hungry! :)

Ohanas has always been a family favorite for a very long time, there signature food items, as well as their customer service, has always been top notch. I would say that once you've had the scallops with their scallop sauce, you will never see other places scallops the same way again. It's just THAT GOOD. You do have to reserve your seats ahead of time, and you it does cost a bit... but the food and service combined is SOO worth the cost... i love going there, and im sure you'll love it too.

So so so so so good!! Amazing! Chef Ray was our hibachi master on Friday night and he was a riot!! So much fun and such a pro on the grill. All the food was on point and it just kept coming and coming!! We tried the teriyaki chicken, scallops, shrimp and calamari... Oh my lanta! It all hit the spot.

Ray was absolutely phenomenal and was so much fun! We brought our own butter to make food vegan, and there was zero fuss about it. Veggies were awesome, but the mushrooms were AMAZING, and I'm not someone who particularly likes mushrooms! Update: I went another time and forgot butter and they still made it vegan for us!

Yum yum yum!!! So much food! Average meal is around $25, but totally worth every penny. The servers do a great job making sure you're taken care of and the chefs are always funny. Yes, they tell a lot of the same jokes. But they also do a great job at conversing with the table and throwing in a few jokes of their own. Four starts because the hostesses can be snarky at times. Not the best first impression, but everything else is 100% worth the trip!

This is a great place for families to go or for something different than a typical restaurant. You will get great food and a ton of it. My family started going to Ohana about 15 years ago. We go about once a year when my sister and her family visit from out of state. At first it was something fun for my niece and nephew when they were young. But even with them grown, they still love going and is now a family tradition. I will admit after 15 years, the jokes and tricks get a little old. But our chef was great this last time. The food always tastes great and usually more than one can eat. I had the steak and scallops combination. The scallops are served with a sauce over them. Everyone raves about the sauce, and it is good but I always get it on the side because the scallops are amazing on their own. I've also had the chicken, which is always good. And a lot of people love their calamari. The only negative was it was really hot outside the day we went and their AC system was having trouble keeping up. So it was a little hot in there.

The Scallops are what we come for, they are heavenly and so is the sauce they top them with. Also recommend having them add the garlic and chili pepper to all of your food! I don’t like anything spicy and it just adds a little extra flavor with slight heat.

Forgot how much we love this place! We haven't been here in a while, and decided to get back. Between the two of us we had the fillet, chicken, scallops, and calamari. It was all delicious! The scallops sauce is my hubby's favorite! Our chef and server were both fabulous. (I am sorry, I am not good at remembering names, or would have mentioned by name. Party of 2 for Zach at 6:15 tonight. Give props to them please!) We will be back soon!

Overall, our meal was good. Our chef was a little rude and made a number of derogatory comments about Iowans and our poor eating habits. Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself was nice but a bit dated. We'll be back, but hope our experience is better next time.

Ohana means family and our Family loves to go there! The staff is wonderful. From the host stand, to the bar, to the table, everyone was professional, accommodating and fun! The food is amazing. Everyone in you party will be satisfied. My fave part.....no issue with kids using their phones during dinner! They are entertained and interacting! Of course, you want to have Sai (That guy) as your chef as he is amazing and quick witted, but every chef we have had was wonderful! You must go.... super fun time!

We went for my husband's birthday dinner, since it's his favorite. However this year it was not as personal as we have gone every year. They used to do the fire show and they would take a picture of birthday person. This year the cook was more concerned with cleaning as he made the food and food was decent, although kids and husband loved it still. So we will be back next year.

Come in reserve reserve a table and sit down at the bar to get the evening started. Then when it's time you'll get brought to a table and the party starts. It's amazing what the hibachi chefs can do with the different ingredients. They make such a great show as they cook your food. Then the scallop sauce comes. Oh the scallop sauce. Even if you don't order scallops get some of this put on your rice. You can thank me later. All around just a fun place to eat.

The greatest tasting show in town!! Best quality ingredients only. Best seafood in the Midwest. Scallop sauce is addictive but delicious. No other place I would rather eat on my birthday. Thank you Cy & Marco for putting together a great crew.

I have been here a few times, and I am never disappointed, this is one of my favorite teppanyaki restaurants (the other being Genji Japanese Steakhouse in West Omaha), if you have never eaten here, be prepared for a night of laughter, fun, and a show! The chefs truly focuses on making your party (or even a date, a memorable one! Bit pricy, but the prices pay for not only EXCELLENT food, but also a great night of entertainment! They have a full bar, and keiki (children)-friendly options! Oh yes, they even have straight vegetarian options, too!

My all time favorite restaurant! Been going there for near 10 years and have never had a bad experience! Delicious food prepared right in front of you with a personal show from your chef! The restaurant was surprisingly quiet the night I visited, but the service and food was good. Our group paired up and did the 2 for $30 steak and shrimp meal, and it was very satisfying. Some of us had leftovers. The restaurant is squirreled away in a strip mall, and the interior is showing its age. All in all, a worthy place to visit from time to time.

My husband and I like to go to Ohanas about once a month as a part of our date night. I am only writing this because last time we went, there were some regulars at our table. I understand that regulars are important to a business but I thought what they were asking for was a little much. they were really rude to the waitress because the bar ran out of limes. That made her not want to come back to the table so our service was a little poor. Then at least 4 employees stopped by the table and started talking to them. The chef was trying to be nice so he didn't talk over the other employees but that made it not enjoyable for the rest of us because he didn't really talk. Then the chef was so worried about pleasing them that the food was not as good as it normally was and we had to wait for anything we asked for. We are rethinking our date night spot because of this.

I've loved Ohana Steakhouse from the first time I tried it and can say I've NEVER been disappointed. If you enjoy seafood I would suggest the Calamari (squid), which is tender and delicious, not chewy and tough. The Scallops with lemon sauce are awesome (try some lemon sauce on your rice or noodles). You can't go wrong with whatever you order and with an experienced chef you'll appreciate the cooking skills and "tricks" these guys utilize to give you a good show with a great dinner!

I've been coming to Ohana at least once a year for 15 years. My mom, stepfather, and I come here for most birthdays or other special occasions. The food is always good, especially the scallops. It's a teppanyaki-style restaurant, so you get to see your food cooked right at your table. The chefs are a highlight of the experience. Each of them have a different sense of humor, so the experience is a little different every time.

I went here twice, had the same guy both times unfortunately, his jokes were awkward and the second time he knew the rest of the table personally and spent more time talking to them than showing off. The seafood platter was great, the cold smoked filet was absolutely horrendous and should be taken off the menu. I would be surpised if it was actually smoked, rather a liquid smoke. I will Update this as management responded. If I go back again, I hope to see these changes implemented. 4 stars is great, 5 is perfect.

Great food and awesome atmosphere! I had the combination filet and scallops. Scallop sauce has crack in it I’m pretty sure. We went with a group of 8 but was put at a girl for ten that they did put another couple with us and really over cramped all of us making it really unpleasant. We were told the baby must be up at the grill and not scooter into the dead corner beside us with out walking traffic so as to make more room. Not the best experience I ever had but all in all pretty good for a birthday dinner. Great staff. Hood rattled like a old tractor and they did offer to move us but we didn’t really mind. Taki is basically identical but a bit more relaxed and suited for drinkers as they bring out the free saki bombs that are so much fun!!! Especially if it’s your birthday they HOOK it Up!! Ohanas gave a solid “Happy Birthday” to me and the other persons bday. Maybe I been to many times and expected more I dunno. The FOOD IS AMAZING !

I saw a few negative reviews out here, which prompted me to share my experience with this fantastic restaurant. I get that everyone’s expectations are different, and that not everyone will have the same exact experience every time. With that being said, I have been coming to Ohana for over 10 years, and I have never once had a bad meal here, or had anything less than fantastic customer service. Sure, some of the chefs are more or less experienced, and some put on a bit more or less of a show, but that’s part of the beauty of it... It’s never exactly the same two times in a row. I’ve never felt underwhelmed, and I’ve certainly never left hungry. I’ve been to many teppanyaki restaurants all over the country (including some very famous, very expensive ones) and Ohana is by far my favorite. My wife and I like to come here for such special occasions as birthdays, visiting out of town relatives, days ending in “y”, scallop-thirty, and very importantly, cold-smoke Saturday. I usually get the Royal Combination with filet and scallops (sometimes with a side of panga), and my wife usually gets a full order of scallops (sometimes with a side of calamari). The filet is always flavorful and cooked perfectly to your preferred doneness. The scallops are the best I’ve ever had outside of specialty seafood restaurants on the coasts, and the scallop sauce is worth the price of admission by itself. The calamari is always perfectly cooked and crazy-tender (calamari can get super chewy if not done right). The panga is always crisp on the outside, and flakey and delicious on the inside, and the orange parmesan sauce for the panga is my absolute favorite. On top of the entrees, you get soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried veggies, fried rice, mushrooms, and noodles. If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault. A special note about eating here during the pandemic. They follow all of the guidelines and recommendations, everyone is wearing a mask, and they separate groups at the grills with extra space. I feel 100% confident and safe eating here during this challenging time. They are spot-on with their procedures.

This is the best hibachi restaurant in Des Moines....don't be fooled by any of the other ones around town. There is a reason why you need reservations to get into this one during peak times. Their 2 for $30 specials on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays are great deals--that is usually when I go. The service and food is consistently great and exceeds my expectations each time. Owner and management are very involved and care about customer experiences, which is part of the reason why I believe that the standards and consistency has remained so high over the years. Keep up the great work and I'll keep coming back.

Wow. That's the theme of this place. Not wow because of the views or the location. Not wow because of the variety of the food. Wow because this was the most fun I've had at a hibachi table in a long time. Wow because the server was fantastic and conversational and did not constantly insult you because they think that's funny (that type of humor/food combination works at one place in the world and that is Ed Debevic's...and as of 2015 they were temporarily closed). Excellent (huge) portions, fast service, quality ingredients and 3/5 flavor. Noodles at the end of the meal - and the chef at the table next to us who did insult people - are completely unnecessary and slightly tarnished the experience for me. Do not be fooled though. I definitely ate the noodles and left very satisfied.

Their prices are the best I've seen for a hibachi grill of this style. You can purchase any of their housemade sauces to take home - I particularly recommend the scallop sauce and chili oil. Make sure you try the scallops while you're there. Make sure you call ahead for a table in less you want to wait (they're so good, they tend to always be busy). This has been one of my favorite restaurants in the Des Moines area for years. I've moved away, but I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

I travel to Iowa for work and I must, must, MUST go to Ohana at least 2x every trip. The service is great. The food is THE BEST hibachi I've ever been to. AND, unlike many places in Des Moines, they cater to vegetarians and vegans (all you have to do is forego the soup - since it's beef-based - and they'll know). They make all the hibachi restaurants in Southern California pale in comparison. Is it fine dining? No. Is it The Ritz? No. But you are going to have fun and eat some AWESOME grub for a phenomenal price!

I'd recommend getting the fried rice with garlic and spice or at least try some if someone else at the table orders it that way (they'll offer it after they serve the ones who ordered it). Consistently amazing. Always. P.S. remember you can take home what you don't eat so if you can pace yourself (and not explode lol), you'll have an equally great full meal the next day. Go! Try it!
