Definitely worth visiting! two can share the tenderloin sandwich and it’s delicious, fried bell peppers are yummy but not as sweet as fried pickles if that’s what you’re expecting, cheese curds were amazing! Very rarely do I comment on restrooms but the ones here are in must visit! Unless you’re a larger person. They were so cute and tiny haha

Goldie’s Ice Cream Shoppe is exactly as you would expect. Small town mom & pop restaurant with great food and great service. The breaded pork tenderloin sandwich is as advertised, it’s big, hand breaded, and delicious. I had to take half of it home. The ice cream options are as good s the food. I had the cookie dough twister and was not disappointed. This was our first visit but we will be back.

The homemade tenderloin with “Mingo” Italian sausage on it was an interesting and delicious combination! Everyone was grabbing up the blueberry pie while we were there! I highly recommend Goldie’s when you are near Prairie City!

If you are in Pella Iowa and are looking for a breaded fried Pork loin look no further! This 18" monstrosity can come with all the fixins, ketchup, mustard, red onion and pickles, and is perfectly placed between two tiny white bread burger buns. It only hangs out about 15 inches, which makes it perfect to handle. If your cholesterol level is still too low, order some additional fried foods! They have healthy options such as fried cauliflower, green beans, pickles, banana peppers, and other heart attack inducing ones such as cheese curds and regular cheese. One of their best recent additions is this new spice spelled chipotle, which I have yet to pronounce (I think it's chip ah top lay) and what these entrepreneurs did was place it next to ranch so it has the slightest hint of that spice. There are other fried options of course such as chicken tenders etc, a hotdog stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon, hamburger cheeseburger and of course you can get that fried pork loin stacked between any of those options (so blah blah blah cardiologist blah). Desserts are plentiful with many options. We chose skipping and going to look for A buffalo and then hitting up jersey freeze? Very cute, very friendly workers, plenty of seating, and I will not return unless I am within 200 miles and craving fried pork "loin" overhanging white buns

Awesome food in small town Iowa. The pork tenderloin sandwich was fantastic. However the cheese curds surprised me the most, they had an incredible flavor. The mixed berry pie and ice cream was an amazing dessert to wrap it up.

This place has a very welcoming feel to it, in diner style. The employees are always so kind and they joke around with my boyfriend and I every time we go. I, personally, get the chicken tenders and cheese balls. The cheese balls aren't very good but the chicken tenders are always cooked perfectly golden brown. When I do get their fries, they are so amazing.

Great service and great food! Two in our group had burgers, one had the Mingo sausage sandwich and I had the breaded pork tenderloin. We all had fries and onion rings and then topped it all off with ice cream. No complaints. Everything was great and we were happy we made the trip.

We were recommended to go here and have a tenderloin. It absolutely did not disappoint! We happened to be in the area and decided to stop by. We also got hot cheese balls, just enough spice to make them perfect. We will definitely come back here in the future!!!

We went before 2 pm when it would be less busy. It was our first visit so we didn't know "the drill". When we entered it was not busy and there were three people at the counter. The young slim girl said, "You have to order at the counter first" then proceeded to immediately turn her back on us. The older woman turned around and said "Did you get helped?". We said no and then she took our order. It would have been nice when we walked in if one of the three people would have said, "Hi, thanks for coming. What can we help you with?!". Just a little customer recognition. The tenderloin was a nice cut but not much herbs or flavor and the crinkle fries were way underdone. No one ever came back after the food was delivered to asked if we'd like something more.

Took husband there for the first time. Split tenderloin and onion rings. Food was very good. Only issue and I don't see any way to fix this, were the flies. This is a in and out restaurant so there really isn't any way to fix this. We wouldn't let this stop us from going back.

Yay for small time places that knock it out of the park. I came for the tenderloin after rave reviews and it lived up to the hype. Giant as you will see in photos. But still delicious. Enough for 3 servings. Really. 3 full sandwiches. Also had a salad with creamy parm dressing. Super yummy. Now be prepared that it is very limited for seating inside! Something like 4 tables, and no counter seating due to Covid. Icecream treats looked divine as well but since I had already eaten a ton of food, I passed this time around. Short 20 minute drive from Des Moines for a truly good experience. My meal (with pop) totaled $15. I will go back!

What a gem! Prairie City is so lucky to have this diner! Our pork tenderloin sandwiches were so juicy! I have to admit, my favorite part of my meal was my dessert. I overheard the family in front of us ( walk up window - so cool!) order. Crunch Berry!! Similar to a *cough* Blizzard. But the ice cream was four million percent better AND it was blended not to oblivion, but just enough so the crunch berries had some significance through out the entire cup. If I am in the area again, I will definitely make sure I get back to Goldie's!

Very conscious of social distancing. The food was great; we split a tenderloin because they are so huge. We also had fried cauliflower (yum), a side salad, and homemade apple pie with ice cream. Service was speedy, and seating is outdoor only during the Covid 19 pandemic. We will definitely go back again!

I tried Goldie's with my son while we were house sitting at my mom's, from out of town. Seemed like there was very little eating space indoors. It took a while before anyone addressed us and there were two people working up front helping one customer with a couple of kids. I just wish someone would have at least said they'd be with us in a moment. The ice cream was really good! I'd like to go back some time to try the food too.

I absolutely love visiting Goldies! The staff are super friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is charming offering in restaurant seating including barstools for counter service, a walk up window and a drive thru so everyone can get their food in the most efficient way. The food is great and the ice cream is absolutely amazing. Check out this amazing jewel in Prairie City, just 10 minutes west from Altoona.

Ate here because they are a stop on the Iowa Pork Producers Association Tenderloin Trail. The 2009 best tenderloin winner has fallen far in 11 years. I was disappointed with this and it did not live up to an award winning tenderloin. The worst I have had so far on the trail. Service and staff were great.

Sat afternoon was busy. We stopped in to eat. Oled couple in front of us placed their order to go. The girl taking the order at the register walked off and neer came back, never said she would be back or tell to wait. We waited a bit and Nobody would take our order. It was like we were completely invisible. After about 10-15 min of standing there waiting to place our order we left! Poor customer service today! Too busy to give any customer service. Sad

I have not been a fan of pork tenderloins because so far I had not experienced one like I received from Goldie's. It was a revelation. We also enjoyed the shakes and fries. My family all got ice cream when we went; my medium flavor of the week cone was easily a large anywhere else! My wife got the dairy free vanilla and was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and thrilled it didn't have any after effects that sometimes come with dairy alternatives! Will be back for sure!

This little darling of an ice cream shoppe has a little of everything. Located of the main drag of Prarie city Iowa and at the end of the Iowa Pork Producers Iowa Tenderloin Trail, anyone will love the amazing locally processed meats, creamy ice cream and lightly beer battered Goldie Fries. Seating is limited but the diner style store is great.

Really good tenderloin, and HUGE! my only suggestion would be for the price you pay should come with a side of chips at least also Lettuce, tomato and onion should come one sandwich unless requested otherwise. Really friendly staff, over all worth the stop and will eat there again.

Iowa Christian Singles had a blast here! The food was amazing and the service was fast! Call ahead to reserve a table if you have a large group like we did. That way, you can all just order from the table. This worked out very well.

Although I'm bias toward Goldie's, I cannot lie, normally they are a great place to eat, but lately they've been dropping the ball a lot. Today I ordered a chef salad without onion and got a "chef" salad with onion and no egg asked for extra ranch dressing which I didn't receive, also got a medium chili which was only 3/4 of a medium, asked for extra crackers which she gave 1 pack and when I opened the bag that had the chili in it there weren't any crackers at all. The prices aren't terribly high but for the amount of money that you pay for your food and them not getting the order right I'm starting to rethink being a regular customer.

Met friends here per their suggestion, and what a great suggestion it was! I never had a pork tenderloin as big as my face before. Not only was it huge, but also totally delicious and tender. Great local place in Prairie City. The tenderloin is consistently one of the best...hot, juicy, not overly breaded, and pounded just thin enough. If they have it, and you like Dutch letters, try the Dutch Letter Twister. The interior is small and cozy so you may have to wait depending on the time. During Spring through Fall they have outdoor seating. Service has always been consistently good. Definitely worth the visit and always worth coming back for!

The tenderloin was huge and one of the best that I have ever had. The loaded Goldie's fries were really good as were the cheese curds and fried cauliflower. I also highly recommend the peanut butter suicide twister with chocolate ice cream. I also heard that the orange cream ice cream was good. Service was good, but there wasn't much seating, but it was busy in their defense. Overall, we will be back, but maybe when it isn't so busy.

Delicious food known for their huge tenderloins. I just had a ham and cheese sandwich with chips and homemade potato salad. Also had a delicious piece of cherry pie with soft served ice cream. A busy place, but the staff seemed to be able to keep up with restaurant, drive through for ice cream AND a walk up window too. Prices very reasonable. We'll be back.

Took family out for a Sunday drive and ended up here. Tenderloin was the best!! Not a flimsy shingle of a tenderloin at this joint, ours was almost 3/4 inches thick and not dry at all. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon so we did not stay for ice cream, but we will be back. Staff was very friendly even though it was busy.

Excellent as always! 5 of us ordered the tenderloin special today. Four of the tenderloins were awesome, one wasn't trimmed the greatest. A new tenderloin was brought out almost immediately and it was the perfect Goldie's tenderloin that I know and love! Pasta salad was very good, and the Goldie's fries are my all-time favorite! If you're with in an hour or two of Prairie City, I strongly recommend checking this place out!

We had a great dinner tonight. Our waitress Maybelle was fabulous. She was conversational and welcoming and also very helpful when it came to dietary restrictions. The restroom was very clean, food was fairly fast and tasty and reasonably priced. It was like taking a step back in time. We loved it!

The BEST tenderloin! It was tender, lightly breaded, not greasy, great flavor and super big! I cut it in half to make 2 sandwiches out of it. Then for dessert, have the ice cream. Super good ice cream. It is creamy and great flavor. This will be a "must stop" anytime I'm in the area.

Check it out!! Loaded Goldie fries are homemade with large chunks of real bacon in the cheese sauce. That tenderloin is gargantious. No joke it was thick and oversized. You could have cut it in half and had a second well sized sandwich. The ice cream treats were the perfect end to a long week.

Great little restaurant. Tenderloin was very good. Apple pie sundae was excellent too. I just sat at a stool at the counter. Only has about 6 tables inside and about 10 stools. So could be a wait at times.

What a happening little spot. Food was great but I was more impressed with the crew/staff. They were on top of their game! Best tenderloin! It's a big one but alot of meat with just the perfect amount of beading. It is truly perfection on a bun! Great bacon wrapped hot dog and a chocolate malt to end a perfect lunch. It's such a treat to stop. Can't wait to go back.

The place is tiny, but the tenderloin is huge! Obviously hand made as the lion is still thick enough, but tender. You can see it is a whole piece of meat and not some ground patty version you might find at fast food type places. My wife and I split one without any sides and were stuffed! We are NOT small eaters, either. If you're going to Neil Smith Prairie, dont miss this meal opportunity!

I normally buy a Tenderloin here because they are so good but today I tried out a Ground Sausage Sandwich and a Double Cheeseburger. I'm not familiar with Mingo Meat Locker Sausage and this is a first taste for me. If you like Graziano you will like this..the spice combination is extremely similar. The Cheeseburger was full of flavor and was delicious my only negative was the patties were "drier" then I like them but I would try one again. Very reasonable pricing and my Pepsi Shake was top notch !!

Tenderloins are out if this world! Pies are homemade and delicious. Have a slice of cherry pie with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. They will warm the pie and it is truly a tasty treat! It's a small place, but we've always gotten a seat. In the summertime many people take their food outside to eat at one of several tables. They always have specials that look awesome. Many choices of sides to go with your meal. Go, you won't be disappointed.

Small diner with a 50's diner vibe in the town of Prairie City. The specialty of the house is the breaded pork tenderloin done in strips or as a traditional tenderloin cut. In this case the tenderloin is about the size of a frisbee-- enough meat to two sandwiches and stacked with whatever you want. Prices are reasonable, service is quick given the size of the diner and we were treated with cheerful smiles and great courtesy. Highly recommend this little out of the way place

Tonight I had the Mingo Special which is the Mingo Sausage sandwich combined with their famous pork tenderloin and it is an exquisite combination. I would advise that the menu suggest two additional people join you to assist in eating the sandwich. Great job done to Brad and staff!!

First of all, everyone is super friendly and the service is very fast. Otherwise, I would have to say the food I've had is just so-so at best. I've had two tenderloins, one order of fries, one order of onion rings and a small Coke. As I recall, the small Coke was mostly ice and $3.00. The tenderloins are very large, but size is the only thing it has going for it. How it was named Iowa's 2009 best tenderloin is beyond me. It is actually pretty tasteless if not for the mustard and ketchup. The onion rings were limp and grease soaked. The fries were chewy and not in a good way. The tenderloin sandwich is served on a plain untoasted hamburger bun and sells for $7.00. The sandwich and fries or onion rings are all thrown into a square styrofoam box with no wax paper wrapping to hold the sandwich together - everything is just dumped in. If you like a sandwich served with presentation, this is not the place for you. The whole menu seems outrageously overpriced. I suppose the draw to this cafe is its highway location in the little hayseed town of Prairie City, Iowa, where the only other thing going on is the hardware store across the street. I can't figure out that 2009 best tenderloin award, but maybe they have since changed the recipe because the recipe they use now is certainly not an award winner by any stretch of the imagination. The tenderloin is very large, so my guess is that judges and most customers are more interested in quantity than quality. They also have sorry looking slices of pie sitting on the counter with crusts that could use another 15 minutes in the oven. As I recall, those sell for $2.75. They do have a drive-up window.

Goldie's is a favorite stop in our work group when we're passing through the area. Everybody likes their food, and the service is as friendly as you'll find anywhere. Seating is very limited. I would recommend eating here during the non-peak hours in order to guarantee a spot. This is especially true if you have more than two people in your party.

We went 30 miles out of our way to experience Goldie's Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Goldie's take on this Midwestern classic garnered the Iowa Pork Producers Association's "Best Tenderloin in Iowa" Award (2009), so we naturally had to make our way to Prairie City, Iowa (Population 1,685 and about 20 miles straight east of Des Moines just off of Highway 163) to experience Goldie's for ourselves. Now, I must warn you if the blink you just might miss Goldie's, even Prairie City for that matter, as both are quite small. As we approached on an overcast winter's day, we found the parking lot full of pickups and a few cars. We were warmly greeted as we entered and shown to a booth by the front window (Goldie's has about 4 booths, three tables and 8-stool counter seating) and a friendly waitress was quick to visit our booth to take our order. There was no need to consult the menu as we were on a mission to taste Goldie's award-winning tenderloin sandwich with a side of onion rings. We had been warned that Goldie's served a tenderloin "as big as your head" so we opted for one ($6.77) and requested an extra plate. Goldie's tenderloins are pounded, seasoned and breaded in-house served with a bun (ridiculously small) along with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo (if you request it). Goldie's delivers a pork tenderloin bigger than the plate it's served on. Here is a tenderloin that is at once crispy and flavorful yet with a succulently juicy interior. Both the breading and the meat are perfectly spiced to deliver a truly great diner dining experienced. The onion rings ($3.00) are thinly sliced, breaded in-house then fried to a crispy golden finish while maintaining the sweet juiciness of the onion within. Goldie's is a true 5-star diner dining experience and worth going out of your way to enjoy.
