A hidden gem! Best Mexican food I've ever had, and I've been to several places. Their red sauce is to die for, their queso is amazing, and their self serve salsa bar has lots of different options ranging from mild to spicy. Everything had so much flavor, even their rice. This is our go to place any time we want Mexican food! Seating is limited so call ahead, it's so worth it!!

I felt a little naughty cheating on our normal Mexican restaurant tonight, but I really wanted to branch out and find a good enchilada somewhere. Our normal place doesn't have the best enchiladas.. I'm so glad we came here. Super cute, family owned an operated, great service, and really good food. For $25 my wife and I got stuffed. The combo platter is great, and each dish (the enchilada, burrito, Chile relleno) has a different sauce over the top, as opposed to one catch all mole for everything. Cheese enchilada is my favorite dish so far and we will be back! Parking is tight and there was a short wait for two on a Tuesday night, but that's okay

Ever since we went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, we've been trying to find a good Mexican place to eat and this is it. The food was flavorful and the staff was amazing. I will definitely be back and bringing people with me. Wear loose pants and bring your appetite. The portions are large.

I wish I would have found this place sooner. Wow! The entrees were delicious and the salsas at the salsa bar were perfection (and you know how good it is to find a good salsa). Grandmas salsa .... Yummmmm! The bean dip was even better. This place is in close competition at being the BEST Mexican restaurant in the Columbia area.

Fabulous, intimate local dining at its finest. We had octopus tostada, Texas fajitas and flan. This was truly the best Mexican we've even eaten and the wait staff was friendly and efficient.

Great find! Was at my son’s baseball tournament at Howard Park and had just enough time for a quick bite to eat. The mushroom quesadilla and huevos con chorizo killed it!!! If you’re around west Columbia you should stop by! Smaller place but large flavor!! Oh yeah…..they make 8 different salsas in house!! Fire roasted tomato was outstanding!!

Family restaurant. You can find a real piece of jalisco in this restaurant. Exquisite and authentic mexican food, great flavor, awesome service I never encounter this kind of atención to detail, everything is extremely clean and well maintain. Recommend to anyone that enjoys quality gourmet food.

I have to take a moment to write this because they absolutely deserve it. When we arrived we did have a 15 minutes wait. We almost left to go else where but we are so glad we didn't! They have a very small restaurant and really really deserve a larger building. We ordered queso and the Tacos La Cienega. Wow. Seriously. These are hands down the best tacos I have every had. Idk what they are seasoning with or what they cook the meat in but oh... My... God. There is so much flavor! Onions were perfectly cooked. Even their rice was amazing! Their queso was so freaking good. And oh my god! You HAVE to try the mango salsa. Their salsa bar is to die for. I will be back! It cost a but more then other places, but honestly it's well worth it. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is so nice and they are a privately owned local business instead of a chain restaurant. This will probably be my new weekly restaurant! We will absolutely be back and will bring more people!

Very good food,the service is excellent, good variety of food and drinks, the best Cheladas and Jaritos in town and a good selection of tequilas. If you really want to get the feel of Mexico this is the place to start.

Overall really enjoyed it and plan to return. Smallish and tight quarters, basic decor and lighting. 90s country on the radio today (not sure if every day), which I adore. Friendly and competent server. Prices good for portions, which were very generous. Automatic bean dip included on table, plus a salsa bar with several options, absolutely loved this! Huge broad menu, not entirely Mexican. Chili relleno was average, shrimp fajitas above average, beef/bean nachos average, chicken soup below average, rice and beans both above average, sweet tea average. Overall, everything was good and enjoyable, and some aspects were great. Well done.

This was our first time there. We had heard very good things from our friends. It certainly did not disappoint! Service & food was excellent! They have a nice Salsa bar with a wide variety of choices. We sat at the bar and talked with the owner (Angel) who was very nice. We will certainly be back!!

This place was very good! Quality food, like, real quality. Delicious flavors mixed with spectacular plating make each dish a wonderful delight with each their own character. Everything I saw on our table or even across the very small room, spectacular plating. Clean, wiped, separated so that food don't run into one another but rather allowing them to be accents and contrasts to each other! Now, this restaurant is VERY small...40-50 max. Place was busy the entire time my group was eating, but I got to see why. Service was great, fast and very friendly. I really look forward to going here again, there's some octopus tostadas I need to try! Highly recommend this for a lunch/dinner date or even business meetings...keep in mind it's small and it fills up quick. I'd say it'd be safe to say that from 11:30-1 would be very busy due to lunch time. I had the shrimp tostada with a cheese enchilada and ground beef chile relleno. My only complaint is that there wasn't free refills on the enchiladas! Hope you enjoy!

What a cute, intimate place! Very small inside, makes it nice and cozy. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and he gave great suggestions! I had a chile relleño and cheese enchilada which is pretty much my go to with any Mexican restaurant. Did not disappoint. My friends seemed equally pleased with their food! Portion sizes were huge! For the table we had guac which was made right in front of us! Super fresh. Love the salsa bar too. Try the mango one- yum 🤤

One of my absolute favorite places to go! This place is what I think of when I’m in the mood for food that I know will satisfy my hunger and taste unbelievable at the same time. The staff is amazing and always serving with a smile and making you feel very welcome. It tends to be a little busy at rush hours but it’s worth the wait or to catch them between normal meal hours! One of my top suggestions for good food. If someone asks me for some good Mexican food this is the place that immediately comes to mind!! Check them out!!

We've been to La Cienega a few times now and the food has always been good. I love that they have a salsa bar. My only complaint is that the restaurant is very small, so we've usually had to wait to be seated. I'm pretty sure they have plans to expand, so that will make a big difference.

Stopped here for the first time on a Sunday. I was craving fish tacos and google told me to go here. Upon sitting down you are greeted with warm chips and bean dip. The place is pretty small but authentically decorated and charming. The employees were all very friendly. I got the fried grouper tacos with cabbage. They came with delicious black beans and a lightly seared lemon half. It was very tasty but lacking in those fresh pops I look for in a fish taco. I only tasted a fresh leaf of cilantro on my last taco (I love me some cilantro). I would recommend a small dish of fresh pico or pepper and fruit mixture to accompany the taco. Overall I really like the place and will for sure bring friends next time.

I've tried basically all the Mexican restaurants in Columbia and I can now say La Cienega is the best of the best. I'm hooked, this customer is going to be a regular. My favorite restaurant in the Columbia/Lexington area. The owner is always there running the bar, serving customers personally. This is a family restaurant, and after a few visits, you will feel like a part of the family, too. Last year, I was stuck in Lexington, SC, working away from home, and I tried so many restaurants in the area. I wound up eating at LA Cienega at least once a week. Any entree over 10$ is pretty much guaranteed to be more food than you can eat, so my advice is to split the meal with someone special, and you will have room for dessert.

What an amazing place. Everything was fresh. They make the guacamole at the table. The salad bar has mango salsa and pineapple salsa among the other regular green sauce and stuff. The relleno isn’t was made with a pablano chili and not your typical jalapeño. The fried ice cream was a hit with my kid. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere and decor seem authentic and not tacky or cliche. The bar is gorgeous and plentiful. God bless and give these people a try!!!

If every local restaurant met La Cienega’s standard, Lexington, SC would be the food capital of the south. Guacamole dip was freshly prepared at out table. Chicken fajitas were fantastic. The Draft beer was ice cold. Our server was personable and professional. We will be back.

Very small restaurant with about 8 tables / booths and 4 stools at the small bar. Salsa Bar is 4 to 5 different flavors on a small table in the corner in buffet style dressing covered containers on ice. Ordered Speedy Gonzales lunch special 7.99 plus 2 tacos and a 10.99 combo with 8.99 large cheese dip and 2.98 sprites each. Total 43.00. Had left over cheese dip and was told if I wanted some chips to take with, I had to buy them. Taste and quality was along the same lines as Pancho's on Forest Dr.

Good service, great food! I ordered the steak fajita nachos and they were yummy! The chips were nice and crispy and the steak was outstandingly tender and flavorful. The portions are big and took I half of my order home for dinner. As other people have stated, the dining area is small with only 8 tables so expect potential waits.

We stopped in around 2:30 pm on Thursday. It was not crowded. I had the Hawaiian shrimp fajita. It was great. The staff is very friendly. The waiter pulled the chair out at the table for my wife ( she was on crutches) while I parked the car. Great place to eat. I will definitely eat there again.

Used to love going here every Sunday for lunch. But today changed it all. The 2 younger girls were very consistent with my group. Very sweet. But the older woman with short hair looked agitated with the kids in our group. She constantly looked over them and acted like she could not hear them and eventually I had to order for them. She was very sweet. Overall, 2 stars lost because of lack of space and uncalled attitude. Would recommend stretching out restaurant.

This place was beyond delicious. The best nachos I have ever had in my life and I dont say that lightly. We had the chicken fajita nachos and it was the perfect amount of food. The customer service was also amazing. Everyone was so attentive and checked on us when we needed them too. They also had a salsa bar with 8 different types of salsa that was self serve. We order drinks that were delicious as well (raspberry margarita and pina colada). This is my new favorite Mexican spot in Columbia.

I have driven by La Cienega 100 times, and haven’t stopped to try them until this evening. Big mistake on my part! WOW. This is the BEST MEXICAN FOOD we have ever had. EVER. The shrimp a la Diablo was excellent. My husband got the burrito Azteca and it was delicious and so big, he has lunch ready to go for tomorrow (if he doesn’t finish it tonight.) Even my 5 y/o’s arroz con pollo was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The pineapple salsa is worth a return trip, alone. Everything was exceptional, and plated beautifully. If you’ve been sleeping on this place, I highly recommend going. Staff were kind and accommodating. Great experience all around. Will be back.

Small restaurant next door to a tire shop so you might be confused where the entrance is, depending on where you park. The service is great and the food is excellent but call to see if a table is available. With just 10 tables they can get crowded quickly.

The food was great, location is rather small and we had an issue with seating when we arrived. Although they have one big table for 6 in the back, when we arrived I was going to sit there for a minute to wait on a booth. The guy that I guess was the owner came over and kept saying we couldn't sit there even after I told him we would like to wait for a booth. Once we went to a table another couple came in and was seated at the same 6 seater table. I just ask for consistency, because he kept saying over and over we could not sit there because it was only 2 of us. That was a little off-putting, but our server was awesome!! He deserves a raise!!

Surprisingly small space - only about 10 4-top tables - but the food is amazing. They have a "Salsa Bar" with about 8 or more different types of salsa, all homemade and all delicious, as well as some of the best tortilla chips I've ever tried. Even though I didn't see it on the menu, I asked if they had Flautas (one of my all-time favorite dishes.). The Owner said that she could certainly make some if I was okay with waiting a little longer. Man, oh man, was it worth the wait! Best Flautas I've ever had! They are still not on the menu, but I am sure they'll fix them if I ask again.

This is the best mexican we have ever had!!! The staff is amazing! Very attentive! The sweet lady that sat us at the bar even told me to be careful of my knees because of the stone on the bar! Wow! I asked the gentleman behind the bar for a frozen margaritas I chose peach and he made it right in front of me and added a few extra special touched to the drink. Delicious. We got the texas fajitas for two. There was so much food! GIANT shrimp on top and the tortillas seemed to be handmade they tasted so good! When a table opened up they asked if we would like the table but we were fine with the bar and other bigger parties were waiting so we would rather they give the table to someone else. We are only working in Lexington we live in Savannah Ga. We are going to wish this place was closer we'd eat here often if it was.

We ordered lunch special #1, which is the same as San Jose and every other Mexican chain Restaurant (as was the rest of the lunch menu). It was good considering that. Went tonight at around 4:15. Best Mexican food I've ever tried. My Mexican husband said that sane. This will be our go to mex restaurant from now on. That being said I feel like the servers can be a little more friendly. There was one the kept rolling her eyes and huffing at customers. Older, with orangish hair. I tried this place with a friend today for lunch. The food was hot and delicious and the service was friendly and good. It's a small place so tables may fill quickly at busy times - consider takeout. I had the shrimp tacos grilled and they were very good - cooked completely but still tender. The black beans were cooked but whole and not mushy and served in a small corn tortilla bowl - nice presentation. My friend likes the fried mushrooms and while not my fav food, they were well cooked too so the mushrooms were warm but not mushy. The little bit spicy sauce with it was delicious. I will definitely eat here again!

One word sums this place up: WOW! Everything we have had here has been excellent. Their jamaica tasted like it was homemade and had actual hibiscus leaves in it. The food tasted very fresh and was so flavorful and the portions were very generous. The salsa bar had unique variety and was very good. The dining area is very small so it might be hard to find a spot during rush hour however the food is very much worth taking the chance for. We went today and they were at full capacity however the staff didn't waiver one bit. I'm already excited to go back again!

Without a doubt, the best restaurant in the city. I'm ashamed to admit that my girlfriend and I eat here at least once a week. This is absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life). The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make sure you get the best service possible. I feel like I'm a part of the family. The food is absolutely incredible. The ingredients are always fresh and cooked perfectly. The seafood is very high quality and obviously fresh. With that in mind, the prices are also completely reasonable. This is my #1 recommended place to visit when in the Columbia area.

I almost don't want to post this so I can keep this place to myself. This is the best Mexican around. This tiny place has amazing customer service and even better food! My wife had the Tacos Don Ramon(ribeye tacos) and they were well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and enough for two people. I had the El Combo and it was excellent. It was HUGE and probably could have fed my whole family! We will definitely return to this gem.

The food is fresh and the portions are huge. It's a very small dining room. I belive less than 40 seats in the whole place. Probably not the best place for large groups.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ✓ TL;DR: Just go try it. Small Mexican restaurant. At first I was concerned with the size of the menu, but the food tastes and looks fresh. They also have a homemade salsa bar. "Grandma's salsa" is my recommendation as it is smoky, savory and spicy. Al Pastor street tacos are the best I've had! One thing that really surprised me was that we went on Cinco de Mayo and the service was amazing. The restaurant was packed, but food came out in a reasonable time and our requests were met. Y'all really did a great job.

I was pleasantly surprised walking in to the restaurant to see the work they put into making it a classy place. The bar is beautiful and well stocked! We ordered a couple of beers on draft and the Pollo Loco and Ariana Special. Let me say this was hands-down the best Mexican I have had in South Carolina! I had to pause and savor every bite! Not to mention halfway through my meal, I was already trying to decide what I was going to have the next time I come in. I will also add that the staff is adorable and so attentive. My son discovered this restaurant on the way to the airport. Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the very friendly service and cleanliness of the restaurant. The menu is extensive and has many great things to try. The fresh salsa bar is incredible! The street tacos are the best and most authentic I have had so far and I have eaten them at many of the local places. They treated my grandsons to some treats after the meal. Will be coming back again soon,

Loved my first visit to La Cienega! This is a small mexican food restaurant that will do specialty items. The staff are friendly and attentive while the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. The food here is absolutely amazing. We just ate here for the 1st time and this is by far the best Mexican restaurant we have ever eaten at. If I could have give more than 5 stars I would have. I had combonation 25 (burrito, enchilada, beans,rice) my husband ate the El Combo which is basically 1 of almost everything I think. The beans and enchilada were my favorite along with the cheese and bean dip. They also have a salsa bar where you can get little cups of all kinds of different salsas. The inside of the restaurant looked clean and well cared for. The staff looked clean and acted professionally also.

We love Mexican food. Eat out at Mex restaurants at least 3-4 times a month, so we tend to be critical of Mexican food. I can tell you this place is the real deal. The service was a little slow, but to be fair, they were jammed with takeout orders. I had the Camarones al la Diabolo. Blistering hot, not for the faint of heart. My wife had one of the combo platters. I tried a bit of her tamale, and I promise you it's the best in Columbia.

WHOA! Best Mexican restaurant we have ever tried!! Perfect size, small, intimate, family-run business! Incredible salsa bar! They bring out chips and this devine bean-cheese dip! The sauces, meat, food are all perfectly seasoned for deep rich flavors and the portion size is super generous. Our “El Combos” were served on 18 inch platters 😂 BEAUTIFUL PRESENTATION! I highly suggest the Pineapple Salsa, the white salsa and the chip salsa! Super inexpensive! The chili relleno was his favorite, the Taco was the best I have EVER HAD! The choriqueso appetizer was amazing too, as well as the fried ice cream for dessert...we also brought home enough for a couple generous lunches!! A “MUST TRY” for the authentic Mexican food lovers!! Other patrons were telling us they found this place and now come once a week...see you next week guys!! FYI, There are just eight tables in this restaurant, get there early! 😍

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. We still like Real Mexico and Taqueria Jalisco but La Cienega is our favorite. It’s a small place with about 40 seats but the decor is fresh and unique. Country music is played rather than the usual Tejano music of most Mexican places. The Hostess wears western clothing and the decor is western. We’ve been there several times and can’t get enough of the place. The food is great. There is the usual Mexican fare but it is much better than usual. More flavor, good portions. My favorite dish is La Mejor which offers all of my favorite items on one huge plate. There is also a salsa bar with unique salsas made with pineapple among others. The plates and dinner ware are like that of a high quality restaurant. The small staff is very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.
