This is a great hidden gem. Everyone of the staff members, esp the cashier, were extremely friendly. You're greeted upon entering the building. I watched them interact with other customers and they knew names and took care with each thanking them for their business and asking them to come again. I ordered take out and did not wait long before having my order. My food was fresh when I got home, even though I made several stops. Everything was cooked to my specifics and I had more than enough to share with my mom. If you're looking for a cozy spot to eat for breakfast or lunch or need a catering service check this place out. Prices are reasonable either way.

If you're looking for a good down home breakfast, or any meal of the day really, Compton's Kitchen is the place! The staff is friendly and accommodating. Food is delicious and Angel makes me a fresh pot of decaf when I'm dining for breakfast. Asia owns this little gem tucked away off 12th Street in West Columbia and she does a fantastic job with keeping her customers happy and leaving with a full belly! Went here for breakfast with a friend and wanted to try a bit of everything. Ordered the corned beef hash breakfast that came with 2 eggs and the choice of grits, hashbrowns or sliced tomatoes, and either white/wheat toast or a buttermilk biscuit. I ordered the eggs to be scrambled, chose the grits, and got the biscuit. I also ordered a short stack side of pancakes and a coffee, which was cheap at $1.69. The grits were amazing white corn grits and finely ground, the biscuit was fluffy, and the eggs were great. The highlights, though, were the pancakes and the coffee, and the hash was a bit disappointing, being too salty, which was also a bit of an issue in terms of my biscuit. In short, the food was quite good, with definite highlights, and I need to mention the restaurant setting and service. The waitresses here were impeccable. They were so nice and respectful, and I must have been offered a coffee refill every time they passed our table, which was a lovely note. Plus, the restaurant had charm to it with its age (feels like its stuck in the 70s or 80s, maybe, I'm not sure). I really recommend a visit here, and to order the pancakes, coffee, grits, and eggs

This is the last of the dying breed of restaurants that have a meat and three veggies for about $8. There are 4 or 5 meats to choose from along with veggies. The veggies are fresh sometimes when they are in season. Can’t beat it even though it is a hole in the wall.

Overall food was good but i dont understand why i waited 30 minutes and my mashed potatoes was cold as hell like they got them straight out the fridge. UNACCEPTABLE and i came right at 11 when lunch started so everything should have been FRESH not COLD

First time eating breakfast here . It was kind of crowded this morning not much of a long wait staff was very friendly . I had French Toast, Bacon and Sausage all of it was really good as you can see from the photos the french Toast was cooked to perfection 😁 I have been to a few places and had French Toast I can say Compton's Kitchens is best by far 👌 I enjoyed it for my first time .

Staff was so nice! It's exactly what it advertises - no frills country cooking. All the servers took care of recommending dishes, bringing beverages and refills, and delivering food. Food came out hot and delicious. I ordered the baked spaghetti special with 2 sides - sweet potato casserole and broccoli casserole. It comes with 2 biscuits or cornbread. I added on sweet tea and the bill was $11 plus tip. Nice staff, nice food and unpretentious environment.

It's not often that I rate a place five stars. There is almost always something, usually, that's a little off-putting. Not in this case! Compton's has been around for quite a while, and it shows. Walking in is a little bit like walking onto the set of Cheers. The majority of the dining in seemed full of regulars when I went. The food is cheap (meat and three was about 10.50 or so with tax before tip) and the service friendly and lightning-fast. There wasn't really any aspect I could find fault with. It's not fine dining, for sure, but it's good eating, and that's even better.

What a wonderful place. It is a cozy little Southern style diner serving up breakfast and lunch. I’ve had the breakfast twice and it was delicious, but the highlight of this place is the service. You are someone here. The place was buzzing and full, yet every person that walked in the door is acknowledge and served. This place is no frills and doesn’t need to be, but in a world full of half-hearted servers, these ladies hustle and make you feel appreciated. I can’t wait to try lunch!

We were visiting the area a few weeks ago and wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t a chain for breakfast. By the time we arrived it was lunch time but the food was delicious, coffee was hot, and the people were amazing. Everyone was attentive and super nice like we were regulars! Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Always a treasure. I adore eating at Compton's Kitchen. The service is wonderful every time I visit, the food is phenomenal, and I been to very few places where the staff was as nice and friendly. Our first time to visit, wife suggested it. Has been around since '77. I can see why! Everything we got was delicious. Friendly staff, decent prices, great food. I got the Western Omelet with a side of onion sausage and a pecan waffle. Wife got the biscuits and gravy with sausage chunks in it. Will definitely go back.

This is a "modest" small diner where you will find tasty home cooking and friendly wait staff. Lots of locals, regulars and seniors eat here. There are a few tables outside. Parking is easy. I gave 5 stars because we were treated with famous Southern hospitality and we enjoyed the food.

Food - 3. We had breakfast. Specifically I had the chicken and waffle. The chicken consisted of 3 chicken tenders. They were good, but not special. The waffle was softer than my preference. I like it a little crispy but it tasted ok. Location- 3 it has convenient parking and is close to downtown. Staff -4.5. Very friendly and seemed to know each regular. Very quick and helpful Overall rating. 3.5

First time coming here today and we enjoyed everything! Customer service was excellent, everyone was polite, the food was great and affordable, and the wait was not long at all. We had the fish and grits (really good) as well as the Belgian Waffle, and an omelette with gravy on top. Everything was great! 10/10 recommend.

Breakfast food was delicious! BUT the smell of cigarettes was overwhelming! We were so surprised that we asked our server if the restaurant allowed smoking. She said it was non-smoking but some employees smoked in the back! Upon further questioning at the hostess’ desk, we were told the manager smoked in her office and it filtered throughout the restaurant. What a shame! Good food but we will not eat there again.

We are lucky indeed to live around the corner from Compton's Kitchen! Our favorite breakast spot for about 8 years now after moving into this neighborhood! My favorite dish now is Eggs Benedict. But I think they should put their Shrimp and grits back on the menu. That was some amazing tasty eats there. Hint, hint, hint!

Excellent little hometown type spot. Very welcoming. Great food (and a lot of it) at great prices. My wife and I found this place looking for something different. After reading the reviews and all were pleased my family and I decided to check it out ourselves. I am very big on eating locally because it supports the community. Those ladies in Compton Kitchen is everyone’s Auntie!! I fell in love when I walked in. I love to see the regular locals chat it up with the servers! Compton Kitchen is definitely a place we will revisit!! The waitress we had was nothing short of amazing!! This little Jem is definitely a place for a family who wants Auntie’s food for breakfast!! When I moved to Columbia 3 years ago, I was looking for a “hole in the wall” place that was nice and quiet but had great breakfast foods. Comptons nailed it. Amazing owner and staff who always great with a smile, food has never disappointed, when my family comes from out of town the request we come back to Comptons. By far one of, if not the best local breakfast places.

Wow was I shocked at how good this place is! I don't know if they serve lunch but their breakfast is down right amazing! They offer dine in or Togo orders and you can't go wrong either way. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food is always cooked fresh. It's very reasonably priced and they don't skimp on the portions. I get the big man breakfast and get a little bit of everything. It's delicious!!

Me and my boyfriend stopped by to get some breakfast and I had the cornbeef hash with eggs and hashbrowns with onions and jalapenos on top with french toast on the side. The big complaint I have about my food was the eggs. It had shell in them and I really dislike eating eggs with shell in them. If they can becareful with that then everything else was ok. The food overall to me is not the best but its not the worst Ive had. My boyfriend on the other hand was not so pleased with his breakfast. He got the country style steak I believe and to me and him it looked like something you would get out of walmart in the freezer section. It looked like they put in the microwave and heated it up. Plus it was not even hot all the way he said. We both tasted it and it was not that good but once again ive had worse. He did enjoy the hashbrowns and french toast though. He said the eggs was ok. The greeter when you come in was really nice and friendly so there is that but the food has to match that same goodness and unfortunatly it just did not. Overall I didnt absolutely hate it but I didnt love it either. The food was just meh. Which disappoints me cause the reviews said this places food was really good and I wanted to beleive that but what we were served at least to us was less than.

I went here for lunch today for the first time. The food is so good and fulfilling, I could barely finish my meal. The servers and staff were nice. It's a small, friendly diner which I love! Didn't have to wait long for the food and you're treated very nicely! All of the other guests seemed just as satisfied as I was. I didn't give 5 stars because I overheard an older cashier reprimanding a younger one. She was loud enough for the customers to hear her telling the younger girl what not to do, etc. It didn't take away from the experience per se, but that situation definitely could've been handled better. Outside of that, I loved my first time at Compton's Kitchen, and I will return! Thank you.

Tried them for lunch today per a glowing recommendation from a friend who frequents the place. The people were really nice and friendly. Service was fast. The food was the lackluster part. I order fried chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens, and potato salad. The greens had no flavor, the cornbread was slightly burnt. The mac & cheese was okay, not cheesy or flavorful enough. The chicke was good and surprisingly I actually enjoyed the potato salad. I don't know if I would go back but it was okay.

As many times that I have been to this place, I can't believe I haven't left the review! This is one of my go-to place is in the Midlands area. The staff is always very friendly, and you get this "down-home" feeling. The food is always great, especially the breakfast. I love the grilled biscuits. No one does it like them!

I post it Facebook and one friend noticed I tend to order the same thing as I cannot stop raving about your vegetable soup and huge chicken salad half of a sandwich. Only improvement is open for dinner but I figured out just buy it to take home and heat up later!!!

This is actually a mixed review. The food is VERY good, the lady's that work there are nice, but the owner is so rude that we will not be back!!! We had a discrepancy on our bill, after a long wait the owner FINALLY came out of her office. She was not only rude, she wasn't even willing to listen to us, and she REEKED of alcohol!! (And it was only 9am!!)

I had their daily special which was "Chicken Pan Pie" (like chicken pot pie). Not much chicken and I guess it was heavy on the starch. The consistency was like gelatin. The cole slaw was good. Green beans were good. There fried pork chop is good. Broccoli casserole was mediocre at best. Nice staff. Good prices.

Comptons is great! The servers are all very friendly and polite. The food is awesome. It's comparable to Lizard's Thicket but a much better price and they also offer biscuits for the bread option which in my opinion makes them the best. The daily specials and breakfast are always delicious. Great value.

Great home cooking!!! I went for dinner and it tasted as good as my grandma's cooking. I had the chicken fried steak, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and scalloped potatoes. It was piping hot and home cooked. Went back this morning for breakfast you can't get a better breakfast anywhere. Everything was cooked perfect. If you are luck enough to have Teresa (I hope I spelled that correctly) look after you she treats you like family she hasn't seen in forever. She will make you feel right at home.

We thoroughly enjoy our luncheon experiences at Compton. It is rare that we're disappointed with either the food or service. I like that the waitresses share the care of all the diners...I don't have to wait for "my" waitress to come by to get a refill or my ticket. Everyone is congenial and the food is delicious. They have discontinued oversalting which is good for the folks in my age bracket. Lower blood pressure means I'll stick around longer to eat more!

Well, the neighborhood could use some help. Quasi home and business, needs some sprucing up. First inside thought is clean and neat. A/C works (Brrrrr). Clean and comfortable but a few ceiling tiles could be changed. The special was $5.(see picture) sausage precooked came cold but tasty. Grits and the rest were tasty. Coffee good, maybe just a bit better than good. The waitress was not too welcoming but they operate like a buffet. You order first then sit. Then everybody brings you your food. With an occasional pass to fill up coffee there's not much conversation. If I where in the area I would stop by if hungry but I was not getting out of my bed to truck down here to eat from a distance like "Just Us Cafe" in the area. More of a local thing. Overall: Good

Just wanted to let you know that we have found a good place to have breakfast in Lexington, SC. Comptons Kitchen. The people are very friendly and even when very busy take the time to make sure you have received your order and are happy with it. I love the ham and cheese omelet. We try to get over there more than a few times a month and its a nice time to share with our neighbors.
