Reviews of Sunset Phở Caffe

Wow. First time having the all-beef Yugoslavian sausage and it was just incredible. We came here for the Vietnamese and were surprised to see a fusion Yugoslavian-Vietnamese menu. Turns out the husband is from the former and the wife is from the latter, and it worked incredibly well. We loved the sausage rolls, and while the mussles were a bit too chewy and not nearly as fresh/soft as others we've had at higher end places, the 'yummy' sauce it came with was just delicious and worked great with the bread. The big bread bun served with sausage in the photo here is the main dish everyone should order here. The bread was just so soft, fluffy and incredibly tasty. I personally loved the Pho so much and I want to go there just to have it again. Overall, this place was a delightful surprise and I wish I found about it sooner.

Don’t be intimidated by the looks of this restaurant! A cathedral style place serving pho?!?? They did it! This place is a family restaurant and it shows in the deliciousness of the food and the friendliness of the owners! We ordered rolls as appetizers, very good and fresh and both our phos (traditional beef and spicy lemongrass beef) were full of flavour!
I will definitely come back here each time I’m craving pho 🍜

The owners are both so incredibly kind and provide amazing service and food! This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The scallops are amazing and the pho has great flavor.

Absolutely delicious. Found this on google and went immediately!!! Probably the best pho I’ve ever had. Service was amazing & had a lovely table by the window. The couple that owns this place is personable, kind, and accommodating. Will be back!!!

First time here came on a super cold day looking to get some delicious hot pho & that's what we got. It's a nice lil comfy spot with friendly staff. It did take a while for the waitress to come take our orders as she was the only staff member besides the man at the bar, I don't know if that's usually how it is. The wait time for our two orders was a bit long as well. The pho itself was great def hit the spot, although I will say they are pricier than what I'm used to-I got the beef broth with brisket & that was $17, my hunny got the sunset pho & that was $21 so yea, it's delicious but I've had delicious pho for much cheaper. This was probably my first & last time coming here but it was a positive experience overall.

Just had the lemongrass spicy beef pho, and it was amazing. The broth was rich and yummy. The ambience was very chill and nice, and the staff was absolutely friendly. I came alone and they were absolutely hospitable. Would absolutely come again :)

The food was incredible and the owner was so kind. He was super friendly and even offered us free shots of brandy just so we could try it. The pho portions were huuuge - you could easily share between 2 people or take half home for lunch later. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
Mimi
the pho was great — not the best i’ve ever had, but it was good. the service though was slow and odd. i was the first of my party to arrive and wasn’t offered a drink while i waited; in fact, no one came up to the table for at least 20 minutes, even after we had been all sat for a while. our food came out before our drinks did, and one person at our table waited extra long for his drink. then again, we waited 25-30 mins for someone to bring our check. also, they won’t split your check more than two ways, which seems odd to me in a place where multiple friends are likely to gather.

Absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend coming at 4-5 pm to get a good table. Vegetarian pho with the lemon grass pho was superb, as was the crepe.

This place is a gem. The owner is really nice and friendly. The food was amazing. I love Pho and couldn’t have been happier with the quality and the taste. The owner talked to us about his country and took time to explain us a few things about food. It was a very pleasant experience and looked like they had lots of regular clients. I would definitely go back.

Great and unique space, reservation recommended. The Vietnamese food was solid and about on par with Argyle. High chairs available for kids.
Unfortunately this visit on a Friday night even with a 530 reservation did not go smoothly. We were not offered menus to begin, the restaurant seemed to be overwhelmed and prioritizing delivery and take out orders. It took them 45 minutes to get our food prepared. Certainly a heads up by the staff when we ordered would have helped set expectations.
Again food was solid and a fantasticly unique space but unfortunately service left much to be desired this evening.
Crystal McAllister
Yo, this phó spot is glorious! I had take out, but wish I sat in for the meal. Cozy atmosphere. Quality phó 🫶🏽

Cozy and family run. Shared the vegetarian pho and it was quite delicious and plenty for 2 people to share unless you've got some serious hunger. But we found it to be more than enough and we're pleased with the cozy, quaint atmosphere. Zel, the proprietor, was warm and welcoming and after our meal, he offered a shot of Croatian liquor which we enjoyed and toasted to. Thanks again for the great time. See you soon. Keep up the good work.

One of our favorite neighborhood spots, owned by the best mom and pop pair. Best pho we’ve found in Chicago — it’s simmered over 24 hours and is complex and sweet and so warm. They’re super busy between 6:30-8:30pm every day for dinner, so pro tip is to show up early or have a late dinner ;)
Michelle
Delicious veggie pho! Plentiful noodles, maybe could use some more veggies. Really nice, homey atmosphere. Owner shared a free shot of liquor from his home country which was sweet. I would come back again.
Peter Leung
Got the chicken vermicelli noodle salad which was delicious and well balanced in amount of each ingredient.
Michael Kim
Fantastic pho! If you want classic, they make a great beef pho. Owners are great. Husband and wife enjoyed hearing about their small journey and tasting it in their food
Miles Ashton Glickman
So much beyond where I thought I’d be in terms of happiness, this place is an absolute gem. The banh mi was perfectly balanced with just enough kick to sweetness, and serving the fries with hoi sin and sirracha was awesome. Bread was fresh—worth the wait. Then I had the spicy lemongrass soup. So—this is Bun bo hue, a regional Vietnamese soup, and I love it; but often; I’m not in the mood for blood cakes or a giant pork knuckle of meat and gristle. This was the soup and broth that’s addictive, but with pho tai beef. Soooo good. If you’re intimidated by bun bo hue—have their version. Will be back, often (and will ask for more noodles :) )

Favorite places of Chicago ✨
As we walked in to Sunset Pho Caffe you immediately feel the vibe this place is trying to create with the electric guitar sounds and red roses on each table. This place gave us a cozy but intimate vibe. We were greeted with warmth and attention by the owner as he shared about his origins and fusion between both his and his wife’s culture to create such a unique menu.
The owner was attentive to every customer that walked into the space and suggested some items on the menu but the best part were the background stories about how these dishes came about. Like the story about how they came up with the Yugoslavian inspired spring roll. It’s rare to go into an establishment where there’s attempts to connect beyond the transactional “I want to order this.” I walked out of Sunset Pho Caffe feeling full in my belly and full in my heart from learning about this family and their journey to merge food and traditions from different parts of the world that were brought together one way or another- like the random backyard story about the leftover sausage and an allergy that led to a phenomenal spring roll combo. Because of this and the best Pho and binh sandwich in Chicago’s north side, I give this a 20/10.
Will definitely be coming back and bringing my elders to try this amazing food.
Federico Ramirez
Super delicious food, I tried the vegetarian Vietnamese pho soup and tasted amazing, rich flavors, fresh veggies not over cooked. The owner is super nice. He offers plum whiskey shots to taste to each guest. The chef came to greet us with big smile. She is a very friendly and talented chef. If you are looking for a charming cozy place to have a delicious dinner visit this restaurant gem in Chicago.
Christina Villarreal
First time at Sunset Pho and so pleased! They gave a great recommendation for first timers and was not disappointed. Highly would recommend dine-in experience, cozy and warm environment and will be best way to survive cold Chicago Winter!
Liam Wells
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I got the frog legs, they were phenomenal. Wife ate one of the Pho’s and loved it. Staff was super friendly and had great suggestions. Will be back soon!
Ben Perlman
The best pho in Chicago and amazing staff! The atmosphere is wonderful. The owner played an amazing playlist, our waitress was incredibly friendly, and we had a great lunch. Afterward, the owner treated us to a shot of liquor from his country on the house. We had a few pho favorites in the city, but after visiting Sunset Pho, this has quickly taken over our #1 spot. 10/10 will be visiting frequently.
rade radeka
after a long time I ate cevape, they were really good, the service and kindness of the staff, the owner and his wife were excellent, I felt like home
Ajimon Thomas
First timer here. I would say this place is pretty good. Had some apps and then Meatballs Pho as entree. The apps were good, but Ive had better phos elsewhere (saying this was bad). The owner (i think) was really nice and courteous. It is kind of a small place, so i would strongly encourage reservations.
Isabel Gallo
The spring rolls + pho are perfect. Beautiful inside interior, so cozy and beautiful. Man who owns the restaurant is so kind. Coming here over and over and bringing all my friends
Kevin Zhang
Absolutely phenomenal restaurant, food here is awesome. We ordered the bun thit nuong - the dish was delicious and refreshing. The Jugoslavian cevapcici sausage paired incredibly well with the Vietnamese dish. In a previous visit we ordered Pho and that was great as well. Sunset Pho Caffe is some of the best Vietnamese in Chicago, we are excited to try more from this restaurant.
Madeline Shaw
Best pho I’ve had in Chicago by a mile. Huge portion meant that I had another serving to take home. Staff was friendly and attentive with a very cozy restaurant. Definitely will be coming back!
Jamie Dalton
Great food and amazing people running it. Definitely stop in! Had the jugoslavijan sausage spring rolls, the beef pho and their vegetarian lemongrass pho. Incredible flavors! Owner was very friendly and a joy to talk to. Will be coming back to try the sandwich!
Georgia Harmer
Delicious food!!! The chicken salad was my favourite salad I’ve ever had. Noodle salad was also perfect. Will be back next time I’m in Chicago!
Oscar Amezcua
Amazing restaurant. Some of the best Pho I have every had. Good mix of Yugoslavian cuisines as well.
Anthony Paul
Best bun thit nuong in Chicago! This place makes me feel good… yummy in my tummy! Cheers to the Mom & Pop of this beautiful blend of Vietnamese & Bosnian (Yugoslavian 😊) cultures…. you make my heart sing!
Derek Tyler Attico
I’ve had Pho from around the world and this is the best Pho I’ve ever tasted - hands down! Also the owners are just really nice and give the place a comfortable vibe. You can’t go wrong with the Pho or anything on the menu!!
Zaida S
My husband and I were starving and could not find any restaurants open in the area. This is the only place we found that allowed dine in. Walking into this place felt like a magical experience. Everything from the lights on the wall to the stained glass windows, it was all so beautiful !
Please if your in the area do yourself a favor and eat here! The food is amazing!!! I can't say enough good things about this place. Excellent service, excellent everything. One of a kind top notch experience!
Donia Hamada
First pho experience and Im sure it’s the best I’ll ever have. The owner is so nice and the food is just 😍😍also approved by our Chinese friends who are used to getting pho all the time
Adrienne Tambone
What a phenomenal and unique combination: Vietnamese and Yugoslavian cuisine. I even forgot there was a pandemic happening around us because I was experiencing such a lovely dining experience. Great customer service and tasty, legit food. Highly recommend.
Andrea Celleri
Very good Vietnamese place with a unique twist. None of the plates disappointed and left all of us craving some more. Their pho was delicious to the point where my Vietnamese friend said it was one of the best, if not the best pho she has had in the city.
The owners are also so polite and involved. They came to check on us and we had a great conversation about the restaurant’s history. He also offered us some plum/grape brandy so that we could taste, “a little bit of his culture”.
Nathan Jelinek
Sunset pho was a pretty pleasant dining experience! Our table got a variety of food including pho, sandwiches, and Mongolian beef. The food was all very good, even the fries, which were of unexpected quality for a location of it's genre. The only downside was that there was one server for the whole place and when it started to get a little busy, he wasnt enough to cover the whole place.
Julia Lynch
Amazing lil spot! My husband and I met the owner while we waited for our food and he’s great guy- him and his wife run the place. We ordered the pork banh mi and beef brisket pho- both were so tasty. They bake the bread for the banh mi fresh, which made it even more yummy. They’re only doing takeout right now, but excited for them to open for dining soon!
Abdullah Sallaj
Currently, at the clark St location. Great atmosphere, german baroque feel. Music is just right, smooth jazz today. Good date place, comfy, not stuffy. The Croatian and Vietnamese combo apparently is from the husband wife fusion - the food was just right, multi flavored, nuanced, not doused with salt or sweet syrup. Glad this is part of the neighborhood!
AlekSandra Stamenkovich
I'm Serbian and live in the neighborhood. I was sceptical about a Vietnamese restaurant that also serves "Yugoslavian" cuisine, and was pleasantly surprised. Authentic Yugoslavian cuisine. I will be back!
Krystyna Slipchenko
We absolutely love this place! It keeps getting better every time we come back for more!! Their menu is amazing! Our goto's are the lemongrass soup (soooooo goood), and their trademark Sunset special Pho... also because one of the owners is yugoslavian, they offer some very cool twists on your regular vietnamese cuisine. Try the spring rolls with the cevapcici (yugoslavian sausage). The owners/staff is truly amazing. Easily the best service we have experienced in quite some time. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel like family and are welcomed into their home ❤
Rachel B.
Their pho is delicious and made very traditionally. I love their chicken and appreciate the generous proportions.
Lesley Swanson
UPDATE: Just ordered takeout and WOW - fell in love all over again. It is SO nice to find good pho in Lincoln Park and not have to drive all the way to Argyle. Everything was package so nicely in terms of carry out and I am in a total food coma. Still recommend the ginger chicken cabbage salad and seafood pho - seafood was cooked perfectly.
Loved the ginger chicken cabbage salad!! Also had seafood pho which was excellent! Can’t wait to go back!
Erin RavenSkye
Really enjoyed my meal - I ordered the potstickers as an appetizer and shrimp with yummy sauce. I would recommend this place to anyone that enjoys pho or good, flavorful good. However, when it came to getting the check, it took a good 15 minutes to get someone's attention. Finally, a member of our party went up and asked. I heard they were recently visited by Check Please - I truly hope they can handle larger crowds - we were the only party here tonight.
Holly Hurston
The rare beef Pho was great and so close to my home in Lincoln Park. Usually I have to go to Uptown to get good Pho. They gave me a ton of meat and noodles and the broth was magical. The restaurant itself boasts a blending of yugoslavian and vietnamese food. Im sure some dishes are hybrids but they also hold true to traditional methods of various dishes. The one major change in my Pho was that it came with cracked black pepper in it. It had just enough kick that i didnt need sriracha or anything else. The service was good too.
Ariel Lopez
The most amazing food!!! The "sausage link sandwich" was to die for! The husband was extremely friendly and the wife did an amazing job cooking the food! I will be back again!
Charlie Schafer
Quiet place with a nice atmosphere. The food was great, the mix of Vietnamese and Jugoslavian food seems like an odd mix but it all tasted great. I ordered a beef lemongrass sandwich and the bread is made per order so it was amazing. I tried some of the Pho and it is a lot for one person but it tasted great.
Ben Volkmann
Great food here. Went after the lunch rush and had the lunch special of pho and a half sandwich. It was perfect for a cold day. Throw in a couple appetizers on the table and it made for a great social lunch.
Grace Nguyen
As someone who was born and raised in Vietnam, I mean it when I say this place has the best bun bo hue (spicy lemongrass noodle soup) I have ever had! The salmon in clay pot is also a must try.
Laura Chou
This saves you a visit to uptown if you live in the LP area. We tried the rice noodle dish with sausage which was an interesting take on the dish but was delish. This was a great helping for a reasonable price. There weren’t many ppl in when we came as it was off peak hours but service was great. Need to come back for pho
David Kim
This is by far one of the best and tastiest spots to get Pho in the city! It was amazing for delivery and can not wait to go in and try in person soon!
Luka Nenadic
The salmon was perfectly cooked. Staff was very friendly and I liked the charm of the restaurant. Very well put together place and I will be back.
Gleb S
Been here a few times and love this cute cafe. They have the best Pho
Latieungao Anh
I come from VA,DC,MD area, one of the best areas for Vietnamese food. My review here is based on that scale.
First impression is the interior design is charming. It is more European than Vietnamese. I was greeted by a European man who continued to be the server too. He acted like he's a friendly owner of a family restaurant.
I ordered beef meatball phở and egg rolls. The egg rolls themselves are good, just like what I expected. However, they weren't served with authentic nước chấm, but with Thai sweet chili sauce. Not a complaint, but wish otherwise.
Phở is always judged by its broth. This broth is good; clear, flavorful, natural. The noodle was a bit too thin and few. The meatballs were typical, up to standard. The condiments were lacking. Bean sprouts were short and discolored. I wish there was more green onions.
4 stars because up to my standard. Not 5 star because did not wow me.
Will come back if convenient. Will not go out of way.
Nicole Wegscheid
I’m a pho addict and can honestly say this is the best pho I’ve had outside of Vietnam. (I even got a pho tattoo to show off my addiction). My partner and I always order the chicken pho with rice noodles and spicy lemongrass broth. Highly suggest you check this local place out for your next comfort food kick. 10 out of 10!!
Erika F
Pho was good and owner was really nice. Made great recommendations for apps and food spicy-ness.
Nick Lazich
I’m Serbian and I never knew that one day my life would lead me to Chicago where a genius thought of combining cevapici with banh mi or pho. Interior is also really cool and the staff is amazing. 10/10 try the cevapici banh mi.
Dean B
Fantastic pho and wonderful family-owned service. Already looking forward to coming back. Try the spicy lemongrass pho.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon, the place was packed, which is a good indication of great food.
We were intrigued by the combination of Vietnamese and Croatian food, but did not know what to expect.
I asked our waiter for recommendations and he recommended the Cevapcici spring rolls, which is number one under appetizers, and number 45 which is stir-fry chicken or beef with veggies.
We did start off with number 1, because these were the Yugoslavian spring rolls and we also ordered number 2, La's smoked salmon spring rolls to start ($5 for 2 egg rolls)
For our courses we ordered number 18 which is grilled lemongrass pork, shrimp and I will with noodles. It comes with steamed rice noodles, shredded lettuce, bean sprout mint, basil, cucumber pickle, carrot, radish, Ginger, crushed peanuts and their special sauce on the side. We also ordered number 26 which is the rare and flank beef pho soup.
Number 18 is a cold dish, which I feel would be better served on hot summer days, and the pho soup is an excellent choice on colder days. Be careful with the Special Sauce for number 18. Sprinkle a little bit on top first to see how it tastes before adding any additional sauce, as it can get spicy.
Both dishes were delicious, huge portions, the spring rolls are two large spring rolls which they will cut in half for you. One order spring rolls is more than enough for two people, next time we will only get one order. The cebapcici spring rolls were our favorite, very different and very tasty.
When you enter the restaurant you go past the Long Bar on the left and someone will greet you and seat you, you then step up to the elevated dining area where they have 5 tables for four people one table for two people and three tables that can accommodate 6 people. There is also seating at the long Bar in front, but when we were there no one was eating at the bar.
Did not need reservations on a Sunday afternoon, but they were almost full. I would imagine that you need to make a reservation for weekend evenings.
The menu is very large and there are several interesting items that we want to return for and try.
Eddie K
Best pho in town. Sunset special pho with some sriracha sauce mixed with the broth is absolutely the best. Would definitely recommend.
BILJANA PEULIC
Wonderful Yugoslavian and Vietnamese food, fresh and delicious, reasonably priced! Both owners were presented at the location, serving and checking hows everything. Food was absolutely amazing. Zeljomir-owner was offering us shots and great drill of the menu. Ambient was very cozy and pleasant. Great place to dine in! I can’t wait to go back!
Lindsey Stirek
A Vietnamese-Yugoslavian restaurant might sound unusual, but this place is an unexpected gem! It is so utterly charming; the decor is both befuddling and wonderful, the space is intimate yet spacious, and everyone there was clearly enjoying their food and having a wonderful time. My friend got the #19 Pho with rare beef--the broth was so incredibly complex with clean, rich flavors, tender and delicious beef and perfectly cooked noodles. It was also steaming hot and there was enough to bring home for another meal later. I got the salmon in a hot stone bowl and it was also absolutely piping hot, perfectly cooked and tender, incredibly rich, and a very generous serving. I was absolutely full after finishing it, and my mouth was on fire (it's a pretty spicy sauce) but it was a good kind of fire and a good level of full. This is all without mentioning the owners who are funny, friendly, and they keep the place clean and efficient. If you want to experience the best of Vietnamese food and Slavic hospitality, this is the place to be.
Breanna Bentham
Excellent service, ample portions and authentic Vietnamese food. The owner was super nice and let me sample some Yugoslavian liquor.
Kiki T
Best pho I (as an Asian) had in Lakeview East, great service, nice price. Highly recommended!
Jeremy S.
The pho broth was oily and not that flavorful. The spring rolls were just okay. The meal was pretty expensive relative to other places
Karen Fontecha
If you are looking for amazing food at a very affordable place, this is the place you have to go. Try the Vietnamese crepe
Maribelle Gomez
This was a cute spot, definitely had a neighborhood feel to it, something like where they know your name. Zel the bartender made a drink especially for us, we were given a hot drink when we came in from the rain ☺️
Madeleine Stevens
I went here for my birthday party in October 2021. It was a large party (perhaps too large for such a small restaurant) but the owners accommodated us nicely! The food was INCREDIBLE! I had the pho with cevapcici and it was so amazing I ate the whole bowl (a large bowl of pho is usually too much for me to eat in one sitting). Months later, I still think about it... I definitely am going to go back someday because it was so good and the owners were so lovely.
Jerrod Coupal
Best Pho we've had in Chicago so far. This place has an amazing cozy atmosphere, and the owner was very accommodating to our group of 7.
Side note: Great selection of different German/European Lagers.
Alex Chung
I visited this place from Dallas, and man… I thought I’ve tried some good bun bo hue, but this place changed my life. Also, I tried their spring rolls with cevapi, and that was incredible. The food they serve reflect who they are, and you can tell they really pour their heart and soul into serving legit vietnamese food. The owners are so so so friendly and kind. I would honestly come back to Chicago just for this place.
Nikolina Kovacevic
This place has amazing Pho soups! Absolutely delicious; vegetarian, seafood or beef- all equally tasty.
If you’d like an appetizer, egg roll cevapcici are a must! Perfect bond of Vietnamese And Yugoslavian cuisine ☺️
10/10 will the owner take care of you during your stay, outstanding customer service
Itamar Zik
Best Pho I have had in awhile.
Service was exceptional. This is a local joint that is run by a really friendly couple. It is Yugoslavia - Vietnamese fusion and hit the spot.
The guy who runs the shop gave us free food and made sure we were satisfied with our food. 11/10 service and food!!!
Roxie Esterle
Sunset Pho is a wonderful, family-run neighborhood treasure with both traditional and unique items on the menu. Cozy atmosphere with exceptional service. Wish we lived in Chicago so we could come here regularly.
Preston Young
I ordered their vegan stir fry (has to be requested vegan) and it’s so flavorful. On top of that it’s very fulfilling and satiating! This place is amazing. Great neighborhood feel! The owners are two of the most genuine, realest people you could meet, and their service is top notch. They’re very accommodating, and you can expect the owner to offer you a shot of brandy for free if you go in to pick-up your food! Pls support this business! Try it out and tell a friend !
Jason Sun
The best Pho in the area. And their chili sauce is amazing!
Update: Tried scallops in skillet. Wonderful one. Really couldn't go wrong with anything here.
Rich Ripley (TheTalentedMrRipley)
Had their Beef Pho and it was so good. The owner and staff are extremely nice. The ambiance is charming -perfect for a romantic date night.
Mark Britt
The spring rolls use Yugoslavian meat. The Pho was amazing. A mix of Vietnam and Yugoslavian recipes.
David Greene
Although the restaurant itself is smaller, the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious.
elliot velez
The slice beef pho was very delicious and flavorful. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The man who took my order was super friendly and cool. The restaurant atmosphere was cool. Highly recommended to anyone looking for pho in Chicago.
Belle Yu
Went here for dinner. Nice comfy ambiance and the owners were really nice! The man gave us suggestions and was really proud to share cuisine and drinks from his country. Was a fun experience.
Sara Marquis
Truly delightful place. Great food (the burek is worth the wait!!) and lovely people! I even got a shot of Yugoslavian apricot brandy for my birthday. This place seems very special.
Melanie Heibler
The best pho I’ve ever had! (I had the rare angus beef and my partner had the brisket, both excellent!) Pork egg rolls were also amazing. You could taste the love and care that went into the food. Owners were so nice and personable and gave great recommendations. Prices were very fair given the quality and amount of food we received. We will definitely be back!
Mia Calamari
Great pho, lovely owners, sublime service, stellar vietnamese coffee, super reasonable prices 10/10 recommend
Cristina Wu-Zimmer
Extremely delicious vietnamese food. We had pho, very smooth broth with tender beef. Bun was well served and balanced with a very smooth and tasty sauce made by the owners. The spring rolls were out of this world. The ones with the sausage blend very well. The decor is interesting and quirky. The owners are very friendly. It was a wonderful dining experience, we will certainly go back when we're in Chicago.
Lola Forsberg
I thought this place was kind of hilarious, as the interior looks like a German pub. The food was really quite good but because of the layout of the room, a lot of the tables are positioned very awkwardly. There was only one person waiting on people and I think he may have been the owner, it was a big load on him so the wait times were very long. It wasn't mind blowing and the menu was somewhat limited. It was overall fine, pleasant, non-regretable, but it is not going to be a regular destination.
Cynthia Devendran
My family and I went to Sunset Pho Caffe for dinner a few weeks ago. It was our last day in Chicago and it was truly the best end to our vacation. All the dishes we got were delicious - especially the sunset beef salad, lemongrass pho, cevapcici, and jumbo shrimp with yummy sauce! We loved the combination of Vietnamese & Yugoslavian food - it was a very unique experience. The owner was very friendly and even offered us a shot from his country at the end of the night! I will definitely be going back to this restaurant the next time I am in Chicago!
Arream Viola
Gf and I were looking for a pho place, and this was an outstanding restaurant. As we got there we decided it might be too hot to have soup, but decided to stay, and the food that was presented was delicioso 🤌🏾✨.Vibes were immaculate and kind owners! …
Jason T
You don't need to go to Argyle for Pho anymore. This place was outstanding. Not only it was so delicious, but the service was incredible. Now this is one of my favorite place.
Derek Attico
They had me at Pho (which is phenomenal, plentiful and filling!). The only thing better here than the food is the service which is warm, inviting and made us feel welcome as soon as we sat down. Do yourself a favor and go get some PHO! Oh and the appetizers (spring rolls) were great and so were the drinks that were suggested to us!! Good times!
alexandra kharalampiev
This my favorite pho place in town (and trust me I have tried many) !! SO delicious, fresh, packed with flavor and great value! Its family run and everyone is so sweet and welcoming. I come at least once a week!
Sunday Sees The World
I was traveling through Chicago and found this place to stop at for a few hours' reprise- and what a treat it was! The food is absolutely incredible! Sunset Pho is a super fun fusion restaurant which combines perfectly classic Vietnamese foods with a little interesting Slavic influence mixed in on some menu items (like the veal spring rolls and the plum brandy- both so delicious!) you will not be disappointed eating here. I'm looking forward to the next time I am in Chicago so I can stop by and chat with the owner, Zal, again and eat their impeccably good food!

Honestly the best pho I’ve had in Chicago hands down. I never write reviews and I felt like I needed to go out of my way to let everyone know about this spot. Everything from the environment, drinks, food, workers and owner is a gem. Do not sleep on this spot. I promise. I’m still thinking about the food weeks after. Like actually.
Cristina Estrada
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding! The gentleman working the bar, which I believe was the owner, was super friendly and helpful when we were deciding what to try. My friend is vegetarian and she felt like she had a lot of options. We will definitely be back!
Kevin Rahmanim
Best Pho in town! Love the vibe too
Shana Knight
Best Pho in Chicago!
A small quaint restaurant with big personality and excellent customer service. The Pho here is absolutely delicious, and more than enough to take home for later. And if you're lucky you may get to taste the owners homemade plum brandy... smooth as silk
Oleg Baliuk
The Pho soup is really good.
The owner is always there, and you get feeling of family place, witch is always good
Mauricio Valverde
Really good! And very great service. They have an amazing pho special .
Will come back
Brandon Padilla
Service is great, food is good but price is steep, compared to what a cost of a sandwich should be. People in Houston would expect 2 or 3 sandwiches for the price of one here.
Spencer Swensrud
Absolutely incredible food! By far, the best pho I have had in my entire life and the ambience at the restaurant is wonderful. They do a great job ensuring everyone is comfortable and safe with COVID protocols. The owners make everyone feel so welcome and the Croatian food is phenomenal as well. Can't wait to come back soon!
Hannah Wu
This is the 3rd review I've written on Google but this place was that good! I got the sunset pho special and tried the calapichi (yugoslavian sausages) spring rolls, the peanut sauce for the rolls were sooooo good and the meat was yummy too! The owner himself was our waiter, he was very friendly and offered us Easter eggs that his family made, told us about how him and his wife started the restaurant. Would 1000% go back!!!! Highly recommend trying this place! A good price for yummy food! And amazing amazing service!!
Dominique Watson
Delicious pho and friendly owner. When I went, it was a very busy day for the staff so the owner offered my friend and I to take a shot of sliv with him, which was awesome and very smooth! The atmosphere is very cozy and different from what you would normally expect from a place that serves pho. Definitely coming back again with more friends! The only thing I wasn’t really feeling were the vegetarian egg rolls, sort of had a plasticy taste to it, but the pho definitely made up for it.
Matt Taylor
Our new favorite Pho spot! Zell and his wife are amazing hosts serving some of the best Pho in the city. I highly recommend the Cevapcici (goi cuon) spring roll and any one of the large selection of fruit infused Brandy (which the owner adds himself). If you have the chance, you must check out this cozy and unique restaurant.
Laura Sippel
The owners are so nice! Lively atmosphere for a great time with even better food. Stay for shot of Slivo after your meal!! The pho is soooo good.
David Wegener
This place was an accidental find when my usual place for Vietnamese was closed. Sunset Pho was open til midnight (!) on Friday every place else had closed. The Vietnamese food was phenomenal! I've had tasty spring rolls many places. These were even tastier, but the sauce was fantastic with a little extra spiciness and flavor. The beef noodle bowl I had was almost twice the size I usually get and every bit as delicious. My friend had a big bowl of pho, which he said was the best he'd ever had. I tasted the broth and found it also had that extra something that tasted better than any Pho I've had.
Looking forward to going back for more, and also trying out some Yugoslavian dishes on the menu!
Robert Winkelmann
This place is awesome! Owner is a super nice guy, poured me a shot of the good stuff while I was waiting on my Pho that his wife crafts in the back. The meal was great and they even accommodated my girlfriend’s vegetarian diet. Would really like to come back in here and hang out when COVID blows over! Cheers!
Esmeralda Valenzuela
Had an amazing dinner date at Sunset Pho Cafe. The staff are extremely kind and welcoming. We were greeted at the door and taken care throughout our meal. The food definitely leads, delicious flavors and presentation.
Will definitely come back to hangout at the bar, great vibes!
Erik Stremke
Wonderful place, great energy, best Pho in Chicago, great menu ? Unusual mix of Vietnamese and Serbian food, and it works!!! Definitely a place to have on your list of repeat places to go.
Erik Zmuidins
A Coworker recommended this place to me recently and my fiance and I just tried it tonight for the first time. Beef Salad was awesome and had all the best flavors. Beef Pho was the best pho I've had in the city. Pork Bahn Mi was great too. Great meal for the 2 of us!
Sophia Rahman
Just left this restaurant and cannot say enough great things! They are taking great precaution in terms of the pandemic. And beyond that the food was amazing! We had the vegetarian pho, pan fried noodles, and fried rice. Everything was light and flavorful, hands down now my favorite spot. Zel and Nok (husband wife owners) were so welcoming, we stayed late and hung out at the bar drinking and trying new Yugoslavian concoctions. Better service than some of the Michelin Star restaurants that I’ve been to. I’m already planning on ordering in from them tomorrow!
Sam Kang
It's basically good Vietnamese food but with some Yugoslavia and Serbian twists. The quality of everything was excellent. The flavors are maybe a little stronger than traditional Vietnamese fare, but overall an excellent t experience and delicious food. Owner is extremely friendly.
Alexander Mars
Beautiful place with tasty food! Dennis was very attentive and, overall, we had good time! We are definitely coming back!
Gerardo Marciales
Best Pho in town. Amazing service. Six stars
Ana LAntigua
Sunset Pho changed my life. You read that correctly - this establishment is one of the most magical places in the entire world. I’ve travelled across Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Europe - ne’er have I found an OASIS such as Sunset. Zel & Ngoc are the most divine humans to have graced this earth - it almost feels wrong to put words to how delicious their food is. Order whatever you want - if it’s on the menu, there’s damn good reason it’s on there. It doesn’t feel like you’re just feeding your stomach - you’re feeding your soul when you come & take a seat at Sunset. I come as often as I can - when the day comes for me to leave Chicago, this is what I’ll miss most.
Sohee Kim
Stopped at this neighborhood spot for the first time ever and let me tell you, they did not disappoint! I got the rare beef pho, spring rolls with the Yugoslavian sausage (which was totally amazing btw), pork banh mi with the most perfect fries, and Vietnamese iced coffee. Everything was just so amazing. Will definitely be coming back.
Ezra Kwame
Wow, this place is a gem. Family owned and managed with the most courteous, hilarious and attentive of hosts. Definitely a place to make memories. The food was great!
Leila Prospero de Araujo
I had the most amazing experience in Chicago so far. OMG the food is unbelievable WONDERFUL. The owners of this place are so nice and make you feel that you are on family environment.
But, this fusion food is unforgettable. Thank you so much Cheff. I am coming back soon for more experiences.
Jake Romano
Beautifully delicious food with really kind and caring owners. Definitely a must stop
Sohee Yoo
The veggie pho was the best I’ve ever eaten! I hadn’t had expected that a veggie pho could be tasty until I visited this restaurant. My husband had beef pho and he was also satisfied with it. I’m looking forward to visiting here again if I have a chance.
Dylan Tromblay
An honest business that serves honestly good food! From north to south, Sunset Pho serves the best pho in Chicago! The owners are always working to make sure that the food is perfect, and are so friendly! They fill a dire need in the neighborhood, and are a weekly staple for me. Definitely recommend!
Uri V
Loved it! Me and my wife traveled to Vietnam a year ago, and all the food from the Caffe tastes anf fills authentic and delicious. I loved extra fusion on few dishes that combines both owners' diverse background. The service was amazing an overall a 5 star experience. Great job, would definitely come again many times.
Brandon Reed
Wow was blown away. The spicy lemongrass soup is a must have, definitely coming back!
Divya Abbaraju
So tasty and great options for vegetarians. And the owners are so friendly! The portions are also a great value.
Tucker Gitlin
My girlfriend and I enjoyed Valentine's Day 2020 here and it was perfect. The food was delicious! The menu is a mix of Vietnamese food with a European bar. Best Pho we've eaten in Chicago. The owners are very sweet and generous, plus every woman got a rose.
Stephanie Ortigoza
Best pho I had in Chicago! Their spring rolls are amazing as well(: very nice people who work there as well.
Michelle Tinker
This is a place we first saw on "Check Please". It is also right around the corner from where my stepdaughter just moved to. Had to check it out. It's a very casual space with the bar in front(very happily occupied) and a few steps to the dining room. The food is fascinating and fantastic! We tried the Croatian spring rolls. Can't describe but not to be missed. The pho was delightful and really flavorful. I had a stir fry chicken dish with noodles so good I finished them before the chicken! Everyone at the table enjoyed the food and ourselves with no feeling of being rushed. After we were done, one of the owners (the Croatian half) and offered us a drink on the house and chatted with us for a bit. Made us feel at home and happy to come again Not a glitzy spot in a pretty neighborhood but good food, drink and people.
Just a Guy From Chicago
The pho was delicious. My wife and I had a wonderful date night dinner. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The owner actually came out and had a birthday shot with us and brang out a delicious desert on the house. My salmon in fish sauce was amazing. I highly recommend this place! The atmosphere is perfect....
Hanna Gibson
I just tried this place for the first time even though I live right down the street and I regret not trying it sooner. We got the vegetarian stir fried wide noodles and the beef noodle salad and both were great!!! Most delicious food around I’ve had in a while. I will definitely be back and look forward to start dining in when they open up completely because it looks quite cozy inside.
Ryan Drobel
Where to begin? The owner gave me such a wonderful experience.
The pho here is authentic and prepared the way it is supposed to be prepared. No shortcuts.
From the moment I walked in the atmosphere consumed me and I was not just in another place eating, but I was given an experience unlike you get from just any place.
Zell and I spoke about some cool stuff and he was extremely friendly and generous.
I recommend this pho because of its flavor and authenticity and the restaurant because of its atmosphere and the staff because of how much they care and how down to earth and great they are.
I have been eating at other pho places in Chicago and this was away from my usual route, but not any more. If I want pho in Chicago, it will be here.
I highly recommend.
Thanks Sunset Pho Caffe
Dylan Belyeu
Call ahead to get a table, is the best pho in Chicago
Megan Musgrave
Vegetarian and beef pho were both outstanding! Can’t wait to visit again soon. Very cool and cozy spot!
Jake Levin
New to the neighborhood and have been searching for good Pho in Lincoln Park. THIS IS IT! The owner was super friendly and hospitable, he treated us to a free drink from his home country of Yugoslavia. His wife is Vietnamese and makes the outstanding food. Highly recommend and will be going back!
Emily Henson
Such a quaint and cozy dining experience! Everything I tried was fantastic. I highly recommend the clay pot salmon. I live around the corner and can’t believe I waited so long to try this place. I will definitely be frequenting this spot! There is a whole lotta love dumped into the food and service.
&rew Galletti
Delicious food, friendly service, cozy and relaxing ambiance!! Would 10/10 recommend!!!
Sarah Grossman
Really good food and really nice restaurateurs! The Beef Pho was delicious, really nice balance of yummy flavors! The ingredients were top notch and well packed (mine was a pick up order) and the portion size was on point.
Charles Zvirbulis
incredible food. and the owner is the nicest guy. This place has an interesting story- both its owners and the building itself. If like eating good food (who doesn't) and you love a nice cozy atmosphere, this place is a must-try.
Albert Warnaar
The owners are the nicest people on earth, they have awesome Bosnian/Croatian food and amazing Vietnamese dishes. The portions are large and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting.
Bob Cohn
Delicious incredible fusion of flavors from Vietnam and Yugoslavia. I've taken four different sets of friends here and all loved the experience and thanked me for introducing them to this unique special restaurant.
Kseniya Listapad
Food is fantastic!! Every dish was exceptionally delicious!
Boldizsar Lassu
Excellent food, excellent service! Zeli and his lovely wife are awesome, they take great care of the customers. The fusion of Vietnamese and Eastern European food is unique and very tasty. Very respectful of masks and social distancing.
Cheryl Christie
Ordered the lemongrass soup, chicken pho, spring rolls, egg rolls and calamari- broth was quite bland, lemongrass soup wasn’t spicy, the egg rolls had an odd after taste. Calamari was okay and the spring rolls were good! Genuinely surprised given the reviews. Will try again another time
Elaine Golden
Loved the pho. Such a great dinner. They were very friendly and gave nice recommendations on sauces for the pho.
M R
I loved this place so much I went back the next day. The beef pho is delicious. I also tried a few of the appetizers and have loved everything. Owner is very friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back.
Isabela Garcia
best pho in chicago, i love the people who work here, the atmosphere and the food is to DIE FOR
Jewels Warren
Officially one of my most favorite restaurants ever! The staff was super friendly, the pho was delicious with generous proportions (especially for a take out order), fresh ingredients. You Must give this place a try.
Ann J
While visiting Chicago I was happy to find the Sunset Pho near my hotel, vietnamese soups are my favorite meals. And the owners are very hospitable and wonderful, they offered me to taste a plum brandy from Croatia, which was very good. I would definitely visit them again.
Pelayo Lopez
Really good place, food is delicious first time trying these dishes, big portion is a plus :). Love how the rice wasn’t overwhelming even tho it was a full portion for 2 I finished it and it wasn’t heavy on the body really good. Try out the shrimps on a stick delicious. Lil far from home but will definitely come again.
Valmik Patel
Excellent spot for a cozy atmosphere and delicious vietnamese cuisine.
The owner and his wife are very kind. Do ask to try some of their infused liquors. You can't go wrong.
Paul Stukin
never had Pho before, they patiently explained to me the various sauces, condiments, etc. It was very good. And plentiful, took some home. I will be back, Zel and his wife (the owners) were very sociable, and I was offered a drink after chatting a bit. Nice place, nice people, good food!!
Colette Campos
I brought my Uncle and Aunt here to get some drinks and a small bite before the show. We got dumplings, spring rolls and spare ribs on the sugarcane. We were really impressed by the presentations and flavors and the service! Everyone enjoyed everything. It was a good choice.
Matt L
The owner was extremely friendly. The best service I've had in Chicago. The owner has an excellent selection of worldly beers. Pho and fried rice we're very good.
Aninditta Rao
This is an interesting combo of Vietnamese and Slavic.Love the decor and friendly service. The pho was flavorful and accompanied by the freshest sprouts and basil. The rice paper spring roll with smoked sausage was delicious. Got a free shot of Apricot brandy for complimenting the great selection of music.
An Su
The Owner is great ànd very friendly. The tripe, meatball, and beef tasted really good! I recommend if you're in the mood for some pho.
Daniela 00000
The place was nice and cozy and the food was very tasty.
Sophie
Best pho around for sure, and I've tried several in town. Not to mention a lot of gluten free stuff. My order is veggie pho with a veggie spring roll. I crave it several times a week.
I used to work there and can attest they make a lot of items from scratch.
Honey Moon
Awsome place to eat. Owners are very friendly. Try the Pho it's amazing.
Amy Herz
My fave spot for pho in Chicago! I always go for the rare beef (thin slices) pho and the flavor never disappoints. The owner is pretty fun too more often than not he’ll offer a shot of sliv too 😉 as a Slovak I can definitely appreciate good sliv! …
Anayeli
Very delicious and quirky place. I went there with 3 other friends and it took a while for us to get our food, but the wait time was worth it. Pho has a very nice flavor and the portions are huge!
Stephanie McGaffney
We had the Rare Beef Pho and Potstickers. The potstickers were on the spicy side and probably the best I've ever had and I usually don't care for spicy food. The pho was phenomenal and big enough for two. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Somehow this place is also super inexpensive. We happened to be up in the neighborhood and found this place on Google Maps. While we live an hour away we will absolutely be back!
Dean Eurich
This is a must stop if you love great food. You walk in and realize right away the place is a gem. It is a very relaxed and beautifully space. There is a little tavern hidden in the restaurant where you can pull up a high chair and have a drink. Then there is the food! Maybe the best vietnamese I have ever had. Dishes are delicious and very large portions. We had pho soup, rice, an egg noodle dish and we could not stop eating. Our 13, 11, and 8 year old girls loved the food.
The owners offer a unique blend of veitnamese and Jugoslavian and are super friendly. We had a unique Croatian/Yukoslavian beer that was so refreshing with our meal on the advice of the owner. We spent 14 days in Chicago before heading back to Canada and this was our best meal and we had some really good food!
Could not rate this place high enough.
Gooch Goochy
The Pho was delicious!! Order a seafood Pho. The people that own this place are so sweet and welcoming!! We order a Lemon Drop and Sex on the beach,Omg the drinks were so good! Would definitely come back!
Job Steneker
The combination between Yugoslavian and Vietnamese is definitely unique and a true synergy. The flavours are perfectly mixed and the hosts are really welcoming. We had the Vietnamese pie as starter which I would highly recommend. Quality-price is unbalanced, this quality you would pay more. Thumbs up to this newby.
Erin Laughlin
We stopped in at Sunset Pho after walking past it on our way home, and we were not disappointed. The Cevepcic (Jugoslavian Sausage) Spring Rolls were amazing! We both got the Beef Pho with the Rare Angus Beef, and it was also delicious. The personal touch by the restaurant owners made the experience even more special. We learned how a Jugoslavian / Vietnamese restaurant came to be (a love story :) ) and even was offered some traditional Jugoslavian spirit! A great date night place that doesn't break the bank! Must Try!!!
Alexis Pedraza
Their pho is great! The man that owns the place is awesome too! He gave my bf and I coupons for a delicious dinner on a Friday night within the month. I always get pho there. So I can't really say a lot about their other food. But from looking at other people's plates, it looks fantastic👌 I might get a lobster leg next time …
Sherry Lee
Delicious food! The owners are so welcoming and hospitable! We had the rare beef pho, rice platter, and spring rolls with their own twist! Definitely coming back!
Thad Smith
This was some of the best food. I started with the calimari, the crust was crispy with a hint of pepper in the batter. Inside was soft and tasty with a great sauce. My main was porked fried rice and it was the most tender pork I have ever eaten. Soft and chewy and the rice so tender. I had a chance to taste the egg rolls and " magic". Crispy crust just like I like it. Intimate decor with a very pleasant staff. While waiting for a cab, the owner and I did a shot of some plum brandy,Tequila taste with a fruity after taste. You will not be disappointed.
Sonduong Phan
The food is very authentic. The phơ hits all the right notes, with a clean, savory and satisfying finish. I also tried their grilled pork bánh mì and the picked vegetables complemented the rich paté nicely. Definitely lived up to my standards as a Vietnamese person. The cevapcici spring rolls were great too!
Damir Okanovic
traveling from New York to California and happen to stop in Chicago, googled a Pho Restaurant and came across Sunset Pho Caffe when we walked in, it was odd to see white european people instead of all asian spot. did not judge however, we ordered shrimp spring rolls, grilled shrimp, and one seafood Pho and one Chicken Pho. I have to give this place 5 stars, service was excellent, food was amazing, and owner introduced himself and happens to be a really nice guy. Highly recommend this place, close to downtown and close to the airport, parking was very convenient.
Nicole Willbur
What an amazing find. The interior looks like a German church! The give out shots of plum brandy. The owner personally greeted everyone in the restaurant. I had salmon and it was fresh and light. We got a bottle of Dalmation coast wine. So good. Prices are reasonable.
AchA *
This place has amazing food. The service is also very good. While waiting for our carryout, the owner gave us water and told us a little bit about the establishment. The food was fresh and tasted better than other vietnamese places. I recommend this restaurant.
Shaun Malhotra
Pho....nemoninal!
Best damn bowl a Pho around!
Get the Sunset Special Pho ...But beware the tripe. You can skip it if you're not a fan. Doesn't take away from the flavor at all.
Can't wait to try the seafood.
Bar is chill and well stocked. The owner is super cool and accommodating and friendly.
Don't pass this place up!
Amy Yang
We tried the pho and grilled salmon (salmon sa zara) and they were delicious! So flavorful. Great service, friendly owner, cute space.
Jeremy DuBrul
This place is one of the BEST bowls of Pho in Chicago, hands down.
They do other things really well: chicken wings are glass-shatteringly crisp and delicious. Great Bahn-Mi sandwiches and they do AMAZING Seafood Boils!
If you are a fan of the Viet-Cajun Seafood Boils, then you are gonna love this place.
mark buczko
Saw this on "Check Please" and went for an early dinner (5:30) to check it out. Everything was so fresh it was delicious. Limited wine list but very reasonable prices. Try the Pho, high quality and large quantity, enough to take home for a lunch.
Timothy Leo
Phenomenal Pho. Everything from the broth, to the noodles, and all of the toppings were delicious. Additionally, the service here is top notch—both quick and very personable. Don’t miss this hidden gem, it’s absolutely worth ordering-in or ordering to-go!
Jamie Alvarado
vietnamese food and the feeling at this spot is very good. One of the best spots in the area. The service was friendly and sociable. Prices were reasonable. Mood here is similar to Fresno's scene.
Kara Barnes
The Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancake) is even better than my Ba Noi’s (grandma’s)!
Small selection of excellent dishes and soups- expect fresh herbs, spicy sauces, and super friendly owner.
laurie ruoti
Cute neighborhood cafe with great food. The smoked salmon spring rolls and shrimp on a stick were delicious appetizers. Three of us split a chicken pho. It was huge. The owner came over and bought us shots.
quinton fulton
Excellent food, large portions, great service. Ordered take out and got to try some brandy while I waited. The pho was exactly what I was looking for on a cold winter night.
Austin Kasper
Had the chance to talk to Zel before, during, and after dinner with my pals. Service was great, and the food was a 10/10.
The menu is Vietnamese and Yugoslavian, and I highly doubt you will find anything similar anywhere else! Try any of the Vietnamese dishes with the Cevapcici (traditional Yugoslavian sausages). If you're not sure what to get, the staff will be more than happy to advise you :').
Ivana Milano
What a great place and fun restaurant in East Lakeview (2 block from Landmark Century Centre Cinema). Vietnamese and Jugoslavian fusion serving the Best Pho soup and some Balkan specialty like cheese and potato pie (Burek), homemade bread rolls with CHEVAPS (minced meat sausages), and CHEVAPS in spring rolls. The owners are super friendly!Želimir Is welcoming and when we are ready to leave, he walks us to the door...we feel like we are a family. They have full bar and fun cocktails. I highly recommend Sunset Pho 🙂
Lewis
Fantastic mongolian beef which they made special for me without sugar. Very friendly and accomidating owners paired with a quality meal in a nice relaxed setting made for a great stop. Glad I gave this place a shot and highly recommend it.
Jim Laystrom
I love the friendly neighborhood vibe, great music selection. I come back for the pho. We love argyle street for authentic Vietnamese food, but the pho at sunset is the best. Throw in a mix of eastern European food, and you have a great hangout.
Roberta Johnson
OUTSTANDING Vietnamese food. I had pan fried noodles with seafood (tons of calamari and mussells and shrimp), companion had pho, both were so aromatic and delicious! Now at their new location on Clark and better than ever.
Rebecca Tang
Treat you like family is an abused phrase in the review world, but it honestly is true at Sunset Pho Caffe. The owners take pride in the menu and treat guests like the restaurant was an extension of their home. No doubt Chicago is filled to the brim with overrated eateries that are well decorated (with a price tag to match) but lack heart and soul. When everything from the reclaimed wood floors to the "vintage" signs to the grammable quotes on the wall is calculated by an expensive designer to evoke certain reactions, you feel like a kid in an amusement park full of mechanical smiles and rehearsed personas. Tipping culture and competition is probably to blame, but regardless authenticity gets lost, including in the food. As for the Sunset pho tai, it's the best one I've had in Chicago. There I said it. The broth is, just as Zel described, "rich but not heavy". Everything is made from scratch - the broth has so much flavor crammed into every cubic inch, each spoonful solicits another and another. The deliciousness is no surprise - it cooks for over 10 hours! A telltale color of good pho broth is light tan, not dark brown. Ever since we came back from a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam we wondered why US-ified, Americanized pho was so greasy and intense when the real thing is actually quite clean and light. As much as I love soup and brothy things, I could never have much before I felt too full and sleepy and had to take the rest home. This was the first time I almost finished the entire bowl. Even the fiance was impressed. Credit goes to him for finding this gem! Like most wonderful things, it was an accidental discovery since our usual place on Argyle was closed Mondays. I'll be enthusiastically recommending it from now on as a remedy for American pho and the hype restaurants, especially if you appreciate charming interiors and an old-time feel where a writer may be huddled over their notebook at a corner table, bathed in the glow of a warm lamp and a scotch (or in this case, plum brandy!). Somewhere between Europe and Asia, but not on any map.
Banseh Naeim
Best restaurant I've ever eaten at. The owner is such a great man, so hospitable. Took care of us the entire night. FOOD IS HANDS DOWN THE MOST DELICIOUS IVE EVER EATEN, vietnamese or not. YOU NEED TO GO TO THIS PLACE RIGHT NOW !! For breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack. every meal go here
Amaia
this place is so cozy and lovely and apparently it used to be a church! the staff is so friendly and polite and the owner gave us free brandy shots hahaha the mix of foods is so interesting and I can't wait to be back and try more food :)
Walton Kay
This place is amazing and has EXCELLENT service. I ordered through UberEats and they took a long time (their fault) so I called the restaurant directly. The owner, Zel, answered the phone and proceeded to offer to deliver my order himself because the service had not picked it up. These types of experiences are what makes a place worth going back. I will be going out of my way to pick up from this restaurant directly and not through delivery apps in the future. 15/10 service. Thanks so much!
enrique robledo
Delicious! This is an amazing spot to have dinner that has traditional and fusion foods. This restaurant is a fusion of Vietnamese and Yugoslavian cuisine.
They have a cevapcici fresh spring roll! If you're not familiar with cevapcici then you are missing out. Cevapcici is a sausage like ground meet patty with Yugoslavian spices.
They also have traditional pho and fresh spring rolls if you are not feeling adventurous.
The owner even came by and gave us shots of traditional Yugoslavian brandy and chatted with us about it! Makes you feel welcomed and at home!
Can not wait to go back to try more items from their menu!
Drew Samuels
Great food for vegans! I liked the vegetarian pho and the wide rice noodles with tofu. The atmosphere was good for a date or a conversation with friends.
Joel Samaha
One of the best pho spots in the city! The broth is hands down the best I’ve had. Also love the Serbian take on the spring rolls - definitely a must try.
Matt Heffler
Amazing vegetarian pho! My friend liked his chicken pho as well. Great prices, calm cool relaxing atmosphere with good music, and very hospitable service. I highly recommend.

Really delicious, the Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Vegetarian Pho Soup was excellent! Tuan, the waiter was very enjoyable to talk to. Great place, nice owners and they make an excellent Mai Tai!

Great quality Vietnamese and great new location. Owners are ideal mom and pop. Chicken quality and tender, lemongrass sauce is perfect and not artificial. Very authentic and quality!!!
Kathleen Carmichael
Amazing vegetarian pho at an excellent price! Staff was extremely friendly and fast and the ambiance extremely comfortable--a great place to go with friends to unwind. I can't wait to go back to try everything else on the menu.
Jois L
A fusion between Vietnamese and Yugoslavian cuisine run by a couple from both places. The pho with Yugoslavian sausage is so yummy. The atmosphere is funky and is like a cave(?). Definitely go if you like pho.

Ogden Owl
Most wonderful restaurant we visited in a while. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to the window table right away. Our trip started with RAKIJA ŠLJIVOVICA and PELINKOVAC (cure for everything). Overwhelmed by the choices from Yugoslavia and Vietnam in the middle of the day we decided to take it easy and come back for everything else we can't eat now. GURMANSKA PLJESKAVICA and SPICY LEMONGRASS SOUP made the cut for the first round. Everything else will just have to wait. While we waited we had more rakija and pelinkovac, some water as well. Lemongrass soup came first. Half a minute before pljeskavica. Just enough for both of us to try it and understand that the choice we made was right. It was everything I wanted and more. 12 hour broth is recognizable right away. Perfectly spiced it just makes you savor every spoon you put in your mouth. Amazing. More rakija. More pelinkovac. Time to switch. Just by looking at the texture I could tell it was going to be great and it was. If you don't know what pljeskavica is and you like burgers this is it only much better. Don't skip the onions that come with it. It's part of the
dish. You can't eat one without the other. Same goes for ćevapčić dish. Liberating experience of onion smell and not a care in the world for a few moments. Rakija might've played a role in it as well. We're coming back for more of the same and different. Loved everything about it. Experience, food, atmosphere, location... Everything.
Tom Ledford
Excellent food, and friendly service. Probably the only place in the world to try Vietnamese-Croatian fusion! It comes in the form of a cevapcici spring roll. (Cevapcici is a Balkan specialty) They also have a selection of rakija, a type of Balkan liquor, which goes well with the food.
Sofia Khalil
The food was delicious, they make their food from scratch. Very friendly staff and their prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend it. And go back. The owners are very very nice. They do anything to make sure you are taking care of. Keep up the wonderful work. Thank you.
Mariana Jaramillo
Great food and environment. Food is fresh definitely worth the wait. The staff is attentive to their customers needs. I’m not much of a sea food eater but their shrimp with the special sauce is delicious!!
Jon Hall
Interesting choice of Vietnamese and Yugoslavian. Vietnamese was good - vegetarian pho, soft noodles and tofu. Tofu was a ltlle tough, but overall flavors were very good.
