Today my daughter and I had a late lunch. Service was good and our waiter checked in on us many times. We love cheese dip and chips so that's how we started things with drinks. My daughter had the grilled chicken strips and rice kids meal and I had a steak and chicken quesadilla minus the shell. When it came out it had the shell; no worries... Scrap it off and eat with a fork for a more low carb meal. I really love their steak strips (a better quality than other places) but the chicken was not on point. The chicken was pretty dry. My daughter is newly potty trained so we had to run to the restroom which was in his shape and smelled good. When we came back to our table it was being cleared (I had asked for the check and a box when I saw my waiter on the way to the restroom). So we didn't sit back down and finish what she had left or get a box to take it to go. It is what it is.

I chose this as a treat for my husband, he loves Mexican food and I'm usually just suffering through it. Until now. This was FANTASTIC. From our server, Hugo, to the food and margaritas, it was a great experience and so authentic. The atmosphere was great, the decor was so beautiful and inviting. We've been all over the country and somehow....West Virginia has the best Mexican restaurant.

Excellent Mexican food and extensive menu at great prices! Something for everyone. Margaritas, too! We got seated right away even though there were many patrons. Lots of parking, also! This is a large resturant with lots of friendly staff that are attentive. We ordered the guacamole to have along with the warmed tortilla chips and most delicious salsa that gets placed on the table when you sit down. For the entre', I tried the Diablo Burrito with moist yellow rice, lettuce, and tomatoes. It has jalapeños in it, so be prepared! It comes with three kinds of meat in it: beef, chicken, and chorizo. She had the Taco Bowl with ground beef and extra guacamole....very good. The entire bill was in the low $30 range, tax included. We will be back as this was a great find! It's across from the CAMC hospital on a back street named Chesterfield. You can turn off MacCorkle at the McDonald's. Those are your landmarks. Try it, folks. Highly recommended! 6/3/2022: Went for lunch today. Had a delicious 22 ounce margharita with salt, and a seafood Burrito. She had cheese quesadillas. Both dishes well made, fresh, and very tasty, as usual. Walter waited on us and did a good job. All for thirty something dollars. We love this local gem. You've got to try it if you've never been here or just passing through.

I was visiting from out of town and decided to try a Mexican restaurant, so I googled places and I decided to dine in here for lunch. I'm glad I did, because the food was amazing! Everything was hot, tender and fluffy! The Bartender (I can't remember his name) was very nice and friendly! I can't wait to go back!

This is my husband's favorite restaurant here in Charleston. We go just about every two weeks. The service is always quick and friendly, and has a clean and fresh atmosphere. Usually the music is pleasant, traditional Mexican, though some days they play far more modern, rocky music that's a bit too harsh and noisy for dining. As for the food, it's not overly spicy to the joy of my husband, but it has enough flavor to keep me happy too. The plates are generous and fresh.

Very kind people. We were seated almost immediately. I loved their Carne Verde dish. Also try their cheese dip for the tortilla chips. It's amazing! - I just wish they had Aguas Frescas and more Mexican drink options like Sangra Senorial or Manzanitas Soda. We go there almost EVERY Sunday.

The best Mexican in Kanawha, hands down. Whether you're picking up to go or dining in the food is always phenomenal. Portions are plentiful - I get the Tilapia and Veggies and have enough leftover for lunch for two days. Service is always exceptional and you never have a bad experience.

Very varied menu with lots of options for vegetarians and children. Chile Verde had a little too much sauce but the meat was perfectly prepared. The Chef Special (vegetarian) was very good but they left off the cheese sauce altogether despite my request for a little bit. I'll be more specific next time, because we'll definitely be returning.

Excellent atmosphere, decent burritos/fajitas, good chips and salsa but 3 stars because the guacamole was obviously not freshly made which for me is a huge issue. Never been served old guac at Mexican restaurant before ooh boy is that a turnoff to have brown and black color and no flavor. If you make a big batch of it in the morning it's not the same as a fresh made guacamole for a table guacamole. It can pass wrapped in something but don't serve it next to the salsa for dipping.

Love the Carnitas, Chipotle Chicken, and the Huervo Con Chorizo. My favorite however is the Chicken Soup (chix, broth, rice, avocado, pico, add extra jalapenos - perfect comfort food on a cold rainy day, comes with yummy tortilla strips too...🤤.

Stopped in for lunch, killing time until my next appointment. Very nice restaurant. Somewhat quiet. Beautiful decor and excellent service. Our food was brought out much quicker than expected and it looked good and tasted delicious. This was a lunch portion but I still needed a takeout box. You may have to Google the location for this one, but it is well worth the effort!

This is our new go-to for mexican food after a long day at work. Hot tortilla chips with salsa as soon as you get to your table. HUGE frozen margaritas and the best Flautas I have had in quite a while. My husband gets the Plato Grande which is a great option for those trying to follow a keto diet.

The extremely prompt, hardworking and helpful staff is exceptionally energetic, fast and always in a cheerful mood. These cats don’t mess around. They are a powerhouse of professionalism and service. They are so fast, I often fear my always delicious food will be placed before me at light speed before I am given an opportunity to order it. The food is utter perfection and the tastiest in town. Thus far, we have found no equal. Their food curb stomps every other Mexican restaurant in the chemical valley. If you are looking for a quick meal that will leave you full and not cost a fortune, look no further. This is our family's go-to restaurant. We go there at least once a week, and we often find ourselves hypnotically driven there more than once. My family and I compare Plaza Maya to every other food serving establishment in the world, and often catch ourselves saying "we should have gone to Plaza Maya" when other places in Charleston want to waste our time and drop the ball. Plaza Maya is unstoppable. They are an army of men and women who serve the perfect meal, rather than bullets.

Fair candidate for the best Mexican in town with good prices relative to others. The decor inside with lots of murals is very cool and there are plenty of TVs to look up at. The portions are generous. I usually get fajitas. They definitely know how to do rice beans and guacamole correctly and burrito es are always made well. We used to take a Colombian exchange student staying with our family there and she liked it as well.

The food was okay, it wasn't necessarily good, and I'm pretty sure I paid for chips and salsa and ordered queso dip specifically for the chips and salsa and got no chips. None. I called the restaurant on Thursday January 7th and asked if they had a party room for Saturday January 9th. The gentleman named Fedeo, I believe, said they had one and I could reserve at no charge. We were meeting my son, daughter in law and grandson at the halfway point for a late Christmas gift exchange. We are from Cincinnati and they are from Rocky Mount Virginia. Food was great, service was great and they let us use the room to exchange gifts. Great restaurant that I highly recommend! WE WILL BE BACK!!

The menu is limited compared to your average 50 number Mexican joint. The items are well described, and exceptionally fresh. Chips delicious with very little salt. There is no hot sauce on the tables but I'm sure its available for the asking. We arrived after a large party but our food was still served hot and quick. We enjoyed everything. Chicken soup, burritos con salsa verde, Mexican style guacamole. If you like real Mexican food you'll like this place.

I have a different experience almost everyone I eat here. Sometimes the service is slow, sometimes fast. Food is generally good, but you have to pay extra for sour cream, cheese, guacamole, etc. This place has potential and sometimes impresses me, but most of the time it's meh!

This was our first visit to Plaza Maya! I am a conisuer of Latino/Hispanic food. 9/10 times when going out its my preference. back to Plaza Maya.We were waited on and greeted as soon as we entered. The service here was very prompt! In less than a minute of ordering our drinks they were served. Very awesome! Within five minutes of ordering our entrees for dinner, it too was served; piping hot fajitas beef and fajitas texanas. Not rhe long wait time you will typically find at any dinner service at a resturaunt. It was great service over all our and our waiter Jaun was very corteous. I was not dissappointed with our visit ! I wish i would have come to Plaza Maya sooner. I will be sure to return very soon!!!

Always excellent service and potent margaritas, this locally owned Mexican joint has a strong following and is often quiet crowed (and concert loud), but the simple, authentic South of the Border dishes are worth it, especially if able to sit outside and avoid the noise of the revelers in the expansive dining room.

Some of the most interestingexican food in Charleston. We did Mexican guacamole. It came as chunks of avocado pico de Gallo and jalapenos. Interesting presentation. My pollo asada had been flattened seasoned and sauteed almost like a German schnitzel. Erin's chilaquellas had an innovative sauce. Lunch prices were under $10. Most specials were under $15.

This was my first visit to Plaza Maya and I must say it's the best Mexican food I've had in the Kanawha Valley. I had the Mexican guacamole, a margarita and the Texas Fajitas (beef, chicken and shrimp). Next time I think I'm going with all shrimp because it was so fresh and delicious. I will definitely go for the small margarita though because the "medium" (aka jumbo) was very large. GOOD, but large. Everything was obviously cooked to order and very fresh. The pico de gallo is the best I've had in the KV. The service was excellent and no one at the table wanted for anything. I will definitely be returning!
