Traveling through town and discovered this little gem and what a great place! The food was wonderful and it seemed everyone working there just loves being there. I went to the website and I loved reading about the building and all of the history right down to the furnishings and tile floor. The bar is beautiful. It took a bit to find some parking, but we discovered the pay lot a bit across the street. It was cheap and easy!

The burger was fantastic, unfortunately it was a little large and unwieldy. So I ended up cutting up most of the burger with a fork and eating it. I would like to see more burger places have flatter burgers that you can actually fit in your mouth. That said, the flavor was great and the fries were absolutely fantastic! Super crispy but large so still plenty of potato on the inside. The bartender, who was my waitress, pointed me to some other great local spots to check out while I was downtown. I really appreciated the heads up about the bourbon distillery and Books and Brews!

Great dining experience. My waitress was helpful and knowledgeable in offerings and selection of beer and menu. Bar is clean. Service was very good. Good selection of burgers and very happy with my meal, El Jefe, had no issues or concerns. Liked the gonzo sauce on burger. 😋 A shame it wasn’t Friday as I would have automatically opted for the fish’n’chips. 🇬🇧🤣. For all those that rated low, I’d encourage a do over if you can… Thank you Ladies, you did a great job. Thanks chef. 👍

Live Music by Brooke Brown was amazing addition to some of the best fried pickles ive ever had. The food we had was the gonzo fries and a massive soft pretzel. Great resturant pub to go for a good burger. You can order some of their unique burgers and all sorts of appetizers including fried pickles. We each had a Gonzoburger made with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and Gonzo sauce on a big bun. Comes with delicious lightly seasoned French fries. I changed from fries to the best onion rings I've tasted in a long time. They have a full bar and craft beers. I tried one called "Country Boy". It was a semi-dark beer and very good....not hopsie at all with super flavor. We went for lunch and found the wait staff friendly and attentive. Plenty of seating for any sized group or party. Dinner is served here, also. We met the manager, David Hayden who came around to check on things. We got some great recommendations from him for leaf watching in the area. Plenty of parking right out front on the street (bring your quarters for the meters). You might consider stopping here if you're traveling through town, or down Rt 64 or Rt 77. EZ off and EZ on. Good for a casual dinner, too. BTW: Two large screen TV'S so you can watch Marshall football. This day was when Marshall beat Notre Dame 26-21!!

I ate here while waiting for my truck to be serviced nearby. The atmosphere was so nice and the food was just so good. The staff and who I assume was the owner were so nice and professional. I had the fried pickles and fried bologna burger and it was amazing! Definitely will eat there again!

Food and service was excellent. The burgers were juicy in the middle with no pink showing... exactly how I like them. The fries were crispy on the outside and deliciously soft inside. This is a must stop on Charleston's West Side.

These burgers are delicious! Very good quality beef and amazing prices. We ordered the gonzoburger and the blue shroom burger. Both were cooked perfectly. Buns were lightly toasted. Loved the gonzo sauce on the gonzoburger! Tried both types of fries too. The regular fries had the best seasoning on them and the sweet potato fries were so good with the brown sugar. I would go back just for those regular fries though haha. Can't wait to go back!

The burgers were good. Which is the most important part. That being said, service was extremely slow, which would be understandable if they were busy. But they weren't. Added to that is the fact that they weren't serving apps that day. Which was disappointing. Overall I enjoyed it because the burgers were good but I don't think I would want to go on the weekend again if they're going to limit their menu.

Such a beautiful local spot! The building is stunning, and lunch was delicious (we had burgers with sweet potato fries and fried fish - highly recommend)! The owner and staff were fantastic and friendly as well, it was a really enjoyable experience.

Had a fantastic Gonzoburger and a Caesar Salad. They were out of quite a few things (it was pretty close to closing) and the owner came over to inform us and talk about what options we might like. Excellent customer service, great atmosphere and exceptional food. Will definitely be back on the next trip to Charleston.

First time there, wish I would have too picture of the menu because they have a selection of different types of hamburgers. Unfortunately they had to quit doing their fried pickles and huge pretzels. Staff was very friendly and the burger patties were thick so u could taste the meat LOL . Would go back again

Staff was impeccably friendly, good natured, attentive and the burgers are out of this world. Love the eclectic nostalgic environment that sort or combines malt shop with sophisticated roaring 20’s Art Deco with punched tin ceilings. They had an awesome little band playing that evening that added to the ambiance TT hat evening in our dining experience.

We showed up with a party of 22 at lunchtime on Saturday. The staff welcomed us, made room for us and served us some great food. I had the NYC burger, which had some killer pastrami on it. Out of all 22 of us, nobody had a less than excellent experience. The manager (or perhaps owner) came out to greet us and shared the history of the building with us, it was a great time. I can say nothing bad about Gonzoburger in Charleston.

Gonzo has a great vegan burger patty, but beware, the whole burger itself is not vegan. You have to ask for no butter on the bun or cheese. I’m not sure if the bun has eggs in it. I’d recommend making a vegan menu item that doesn’t need modifications. However, it was delicious after I veganized the Malibu burger! Sweet potato fries were good too, and my drink was tasty!

Sadly, no where near as good as it use to be. Was out of the entire appetizer menu, and from Facebook reviews seems to be a common problem and quite frequent over the last 2 years. Still a decent restaurant, hope it gets back to what it use to be.

To skip the wait for a booth we sat at the bar. We were immediately greeted by the friendly bartender and given info about the menu. All service was friendly and polite. The food was great and I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Second time here. Would have been 5 starts but the service was a little slow but not horribly slow and my wife’s burger a little undercooked but again not horribly. Great atmosphere, parking is scarce so bring quarters for the meter. Food is really good, they blend their own burger in House we was told and it shows in the taste of the burger. Beer selection is above average and the soda comes in bottles, which I find a little weird but I’m sure they have a reason. Second time visiting and will be back. They sometime have live music which is really nice. Happy hour 4pm-6pm. Prices vary 10-13$ for a burger. Building is a historical building, so if you appreciate the architecture of old buildings and a good burger give it a try!

I wasn't expecting the food to be this good, this place is in a league of its own. The burgers was far better than five guys and the fries was insanely good. I got the gonzofries and gonzoburger with the sauce on the side so it was less messier to eat. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I highly recommend this place. Not only are their burgers and fries delicious but their other menu items are tasty as well! We tried the pork wings which are tender ribs shaped like a chicken drumstick. Yum 😋 Their customer service surpasses any local restaurant we’ve visited of late. Good stuff!

We enjoy their burgers and the Friday special of fish and chips. Additionally we enjoy this section of town and the hard work that the local business owners have committed to making this area fun and inviting. The building and interior of this restaurant is beautiful. When you stop by, don't forget to take a minute to examine the fine detail and craftsmanship of the antique bar counter. The tin ceiling and tilework takes you back to a bye-gone era. We enjoy the food and service and we can't wait until the planned street lighting project is completed.

Quite delicious. Portions are quite large. The interior is a little funky- the wooden booths are kind of small and have very straight backs. And they gave me sprite in a bottle which was a little funny. But the food is great, I’d recommend the pretzel as an appetizer. I don’t know about the service, when we were there they were having trouble finding wait staff so we were served by the manager but it was good!

Went to Gonzoburger for the first time the other day. It seems like I always heard terrible reviews about that place, so I avoided going there. I always try to eat at local owned restaurants, so we decided to give them a shot and judge for ourselves. My uncle and I both got their eponymous Gonzoburger. I gotta say, I have no idea why Gonzoburger gets the flack they get. The burgers and fries were really good. The server Ashley was great too. As someone that grew up going to Chris’s Hotdogs, this joint has that sentimental value too. Don’t be a burger snob… Go get you a burger at Gonzoburger!

I got the Desperado Burger, it was very delicious, burger was done but still nice and juicy. Fries were excellent. Others with me got the Gonzoburger and said it was delicious and they got the onion rings and said they were really good. Final member of our party got the Frat Boy Burger and he really liked it as well. Took a little longer than expected to get our food, but was worth the wait. Highly recommend to anyone.

Wanted to try something new for dinner, I placed a take out order and even though it was close to closing they still took my order with no attitude or hesitation. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with nothing but good vibes, smiles, and compliments. The food was just as amazing as the atmosphere. I will 100% be back again and highly recommend!

Driving through Charleston and was hoping to find a local gem for lunch and this is a winner! The gonzo fries are amazing, as well as the onion rings. Although the food was great, the staff was even better. We placed a take out order and (I believe her name was Deanna) took care of us like family. Wonderful place to get a delicious burger. The special Gozonburger sauce is unique. Seasoned fries and onion rings very tasty. Atmosphere with the spectacular 1905 original St. Louis World's Fair wood and marble bar and wood booths was fantastic. Great server. We enjoyed talking with Chef Tim. This will be a regular stop for us on our trips through the area. You won't be disappointed!! There's a reason Gozonburger was rated #1 in the valley for 3 years!

I had their chicken sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. As are the Desperado and sweet potato fries. The blue shrooms fries were a bit heavy on the parmesan, but still really good. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and I will definitely be eating there again.

Delicious burgers, seasoned fries, battered onion rings, fried pickles(sliced, not spears and a bit spicy) and fresh beer. Waiter was fun and great. We loved the artsy vibe here and in this part of Elk City. Just passing through on the way from Chicago to the coast, GonzoBurger is one of the many reasons we'll stop in Charleston again next time we’re in the area!

I took my SO there to check out the remodel. My family would frequent there when I was a kid. The decor has an upscale feel while keeping a lot of the familiar fixtures I loved as a kid. The burgers are top notch with a cold beer. Service was great, those ladies know their stuff. Will be back when in the Charleston area.

The food was really good. The butter it self was cooked wonderfully, the bacon had just the right amount of crisp and the fries didn't need any ketchup. The only negatives was that the staff didn't really check on us, there wasn't enough gonzo sauce on the burger, and the wait for the food was a bit long for a burger joint. However, those are small little inconveniences. The place over all was pretty good.

Only complaint was the rude hostess that didn't speak and just stared at us when we walked in. Was sarcastic when I asked did we seat oursleves due to me being confused by her blank stare. Observed this being everyone's reaction that came in.Their confusion and her rude attitude. You expect some type of greeting or acknowledgment. Unfortunately the hostess plays a big factor in the first impression and atmosphere of the meal. Probably will not return just to avoid dealing with her again

First time going there. Went there for my husband's 50th high school reunion Friday the 27th. Exceptional service from Cici and everyone. The Bleu shroom fries were beyond this world. Everything we ate was phenomenal! Wish we lived closer to visit more often! Thank you for a great evening.

Was decent. Have been there once before when they 1st open, somewhat disappointed this time but still good food. Our burgers were both overdone (I wanted med and my boyfriend wanted medium well) they both were WELL or more. They did take mine off, service was good, the pretzel appetizer is great! I'm not complaining, just was better when they first opened. Either way, I hope I can give them a 3rd chance. All in all, good atmosphere, service, and hopefully better burgers next time. Definitely check them out!

Staff was very personable, and eager to serve their customers. Chef Tim is AMAZING!!! Food is always fresh and hot. We were in town for USTA Nationals and this local burger joint is the best burger place I've ever eaten. My kids loved it so much they begged to go back not once, but twice!!!

Stopped in and picked up a burger to go during lunch. They were busy but it didn't affect the wait; which was about what you would expect from a sit-down restaurant... I thought it was pretty quick... The man, who I believe was the owner kept me company while I waited. We discussed how they restored the restaurant and kept the original decor. It looks great! I got the garbanzo burger, it was huge and delicious! It came with steak fries that were seasoned so perfectly that they left a yummy taste on my fingers... so any who, I highly recommend this place 👍

What a great local restaurant on the West Side. An amazing historic building with unique and cool architecture. A great selection of craft beers. But the food is the most amazing part. Each of their craft hamburgers is a work of art. All of the their appetizers were just delicious. They handled a group of 12 easily and had our food out in a timely manner.

Great atmosphere is the first thing that hits you when you walk in. Not sure what it previously was but they have left most of the original look and it's really nice. My server, Sid, was awesome and we talked quite a bit while I was there at the bar. I got the Patty Melt burger and it was delicious. Cooked just right and that marble rye made everything else pop. The menu all looked delicious and I can't wait to go back to try more. Parking was a little sad since it's mainly street parking with meters, unless there's a free lot I didn't see nearby. Overall I would highly recommend it.

I love this place. After a very difficult day at work, I went here and it definitely turned my day around. The ambiance in this place is awesome. Love the food, the music, and our waitress was AWESOME! I was impressed by the amount of food you received for the price. I would put this place up against any big chain, any day. THIS is Charleston’s best kept secret, but not for long.

i had two kids with me so I ordered 2 small sprites and a large for me. ended up getting 2 kids cups and a 20oz of Sprite for all three of us to share. for a "family friendly" restaurant with crayons at every table and paper table cloth, why couldn't they at least explain to me they only sell bottles? why couldn't they have just brought me two bottles?? i ended up giving the boys my whole pop and going without. my sweet potato fries were hardly cooked. tasted like recently frozen, honestly. the burger was actually very good, despite all my other criticisms. also love the idea of the local art being displayed all over the walls. it was cool you could buy whatever painting you liked, too. I'm not saying I won't ever come back, but my boyfriend will definitely have to do some convincing for me to give it another go right yet. I really think they could improve though! lovely spot for a restaurant like this.

Had the mushroom and Feta cheese burger with onion rings and it was delicious. Could only eat half; took the rest home. My sister had the brunch burger with slices of bacon and a sunny-side up with fries to eat, which looked delicious. Service was great too. Very short wait for a table because they seemed very efficient at turning over the tables. Definitely give it a try.

I've eaten at Gonzoburger multiple times while visiting my parents in Charleston. Every time I've been there, we've never had to wait long for a table. The booths are intimate and would be perfect for a date, but also worked well for our four person-and-a-baby party. The burgers are delicious and we loved the fries and onion rings. My husband's family runs a test where when you bite into an onion ring, the remaining onion shouldn't slide out of the batter, and these definitely passed. 😆 I am a professional chef who owns a catering company in Oregon, and I appreciate their variety of burgers and openness to do something different! Last night I tried the Frat Boy burger which had tzatziki and feta and my family who tried a bite also loved it. We've always had great service there and the owner/manager is helpful and accommodating. I'm glad this restaurant is in business; I think they are doing a great service to the city of Charleston offering a unique gathering place and culinary experience!

Absolutely loved it! You need to bring your store to my hometown in Wheeling, WV. And bring "Syd" with you. Plenty of openings at our massive "Highlands" in Triadelphia, WV??? Daughter lives in Charleston for 3 yrs & had never been to your place either. We tried several things there. Your burgers were very tasteful & cooked exactly like we liked. The Gonzo fries, onion rings, & buns were awesome. Our waiter "Syd" was so warm, friendly, personable & knowledgeable about the history of your place when we asked him. He was very proud. I've been to many restaurants including in Scotland & never anyone like Syd! That man definitely deserves a raise. He's definitely an asset to your establishment. Highly reccomend this place. Hats off to y'all!!! .

The atmosphere and servers were excellent. The seasoned french fries were some of the best I've had. The burger, it was average and the meat a little on the dry side. Glad we were finally able to visit but not worth driving from Teays Valley. I'll stick with Five Guys instead.

This place is nice to try! Tons of different kinds of art on the walls and an awesome bar make it interesting to look at. The food is good, as well. It is not too greasy, plenty flavorful, and they make an all-around decent burger and fries. However, it is pricey for just a burger, fries, and appetizer-type foods.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The building is very nice and restored to keep the original feel. We had Blue Shroom Fries,The Jefe and The Desperado with sweet potato fries. All was well prepared and tasted great. The service was excellent. We will definitely be going back. Very glad to have another local owned restaurant on the West Side.

Atmosphere is really cool and unique with all of the paintings everywhere. The food was really good! I liked that they decorate the tables with paper and have crayons to doodle while you wait. Fun place! Also impressed that the waitress wyrite her name upside down.

Good food. Very noisy. Maybe one of the booths with a smaller table would have made it easier to converse, but there were 4 of us, it was a busy Saturday night, so seating options were limited. I felt lucky they could seat us so promptly. Wait staff was friendly and responsive.

Our crew arrived at about 7:15 p.m last night- Five of us. There were three others in a booth. They were the only other patrons. The waitress showed up , took our drink orders and left. After 15 minutes she comes back with our drinks. She took our orders and left again. Food arrived quicker than the drinks did! Food was excellent we all agreed. Three of us ran out of tea and finally the waitress came back and offered refills. She put everyone’s bill o. The same ticket . When we told her about it she said no one said otherwise so she assumed it was altogether. She had to ask everyone what they had and went to the register to start over. This took another 10 minutes or so mainly because she was talking to some girl that came in. Finally we settled up and left. Three stars . If the service matched the quality of the food that would be really good.

People complaining about wait time during a opening week should be ignored especially when Gonzo announced they would only be open for lunch to work out kinks and to ensure great service. This is normal for around our area with a new restaurant that was expected to have high demand. I appreciate how they have been up front with any kind of hurdle they have encountered. Keep it up!

Held off going for a bit because of new place rush and the cost. That being said some of the burgers do live up to it like the brunch burger while others didn't seem to. Majority of the wait staff while we was there was on the ball but a couple seemed over whelmed. I wanna give it 4 star, great potential for 5 after getting in a groove. Not a wide variety of non alcoholic drinks, and cans of soda are cluttering for the size of table and trays the food is served on. Over all tho I loved it and will repeat business.

Great little burger place. I fell in love with the hand carved bar when I walked in. I was told it was from the 1904 World's Fair. It didn't make the food taste better, but I felt better about eating in such a cool place. The rest of the period architecture is well preserved here, too; tile floors, coffered ceilings. Tons of local art line the walls. The booths are small and cramped, though, so if you're taking kids, ask for a table. Imaginative ingredients for the burgers, but they end up just mediocre on the table.

Visited towards dinner time on a weeknight. Extremely high quality customer service, prices a touch on the high side for the high quality food (price vs what you get). Ordered two appetizers and two burgers, all served quickly and hot. Appetizers: Cream Cheese Jalapeño poppers and Garlic stuff fried mushrooms. Quality, served hot, non-greasy, and satisfying. Meal: Desperado with seasoned fries and Blue Shroom with onion rings. Pickled jalapeños on the desperado for a high quality burger is undesirable, even if the pickled jalapeños are high quality. The burger seemed small for the price point. The fries were exceptional. The blue shroom was amazingly tasty, truly amazing job with the blue cheese fondue. The onion rings were quality. As with the other burger, it seemed small for the price point. Notably, my wife and I were stuffed after eating the aforementioned; possibly due to high quality ingredients. Definitely high 4 stars and possibly a 5, use of pickled jalapeños and amount of meat for dollar spent puts it at a high 4 vice 5.

The food was good, but the staff was negligent and unconcerned. The waitress forgot our order and had to come back, and whenever we found a bug in our food, they refused to take the burger off the bill and instead gave a meager “10%” discount (which was about $1). As previously mentioned, the food was good, but the service and subpar sanitation of the restaurant just made the experience unpleasant. Probably won’t be back again.

Our second visit and as a group we've had 6 burgers. None of them have come to the table looking anything like the pictures and video that I've seen here or on Facebook. The flavors are good but not $11 + burger. In fact, the 3 burgers we had tonight were desperately lacking in size. They were in pieces on the bread/bun. It almost looked like it was by design to try and cover the bread. Also, stick with the onion rings....the fries are poor and again not proportioned. One plate may be plenty and another scarce. Some were over cooked, some we're under cooked.....we even got a few crinkle cut fries in with the plain fries. The long waits don't bother me and the service is friendly. Krista is great (been our waitress both visits) but I'm under the impression that she is also a manager. She's spread way too thin. Let her manage and let her deligate her time to police up the details and enforce some quality control. Front staff, good job. Kitchen staff, quit hanging the waiting staff out to dry with substandard food. Someone brought my daughter's Caesar salad with a bowl of greens with cheese on it. Fortunately, Krista came behind them a couple minutes later with a much more reasonable example with croutons. Thanks again Krista. The bar staff is great too, super nice on my first visit and "in the know" on their beers. Fix the food, the rest is great. The name is GONZOBURGER. We're not there to buy sliders.

We had a giant party of 15 and they did a great job accommodating us. We got burgers, salads, and soft pretzels. Everything was great except the salad. Salads were very boring, and only had spinage in it. Some mixed greens would have gone a long way. We sent it back because it was just very lack luster. Sevice was great, and he tried very hard to make us happy despite not enjoying the salads. Burgers are the way to go. And the soft pretzel is HUGE! Size of a dinner plate.

So, today was the second time I’ve visited here & I was even more satisfied than before. If you’re looking for dine-in style burgers & fries, look no further than gonzoburger. If you’re worried about price, just remember the last time you got a fast food combo then add a dollar or two to the entire bill. It’s really not expensive at all to eat here & everything is made fresh. I’d gladly pay for quality food & this is one of those places you get your money’s worth. Inside is a cozy, art filled space with a lot of the building’s original ceilings & fixtures. The walls are full of artwork and it’s a real feast for the eyes.There’s even a old timey mirrored fully-stocked bar serving all kinds of holiday “spirits”. Now, on to the food. I had the El Jefe burger & trust me, you’re gonna need to wear your best stretchy pants. Between the two juicy patties are cheese & four thick slices of bacon. Then they add red onion, lettuce, house made pickles & gonzo sauce. The seasoned fries took this sandwich over the top. A word of warning though. If you have a beard like myself, you’re gonna need lots of napkins because it’s a beast to eat. All in all, you’re not gonna find a better burger place than gonzoburger. Stop by sometime & tell Sydney the server I sent ya!

Newer specialty burger joint at an old location on west side. The craft burgers are very good (frat boy, one of my favorites) and the local drafts are good and cold. I had such high hopes for this place. But the burgers were so flavorless, the buns were cold, the meat had no flavor, no salt or pepper. The French fries were old cold and greasy. Mentioned to two waitresses about the fries and the one who waited on us apoligized about the fries and I thought they were bringing us some fresh but was told that was why she offered onion rings instead. So we left and paid full price for the sandwhiches. As much as I would have hoped to write a good review I can't endorse this place, such a shame cause I really enjoyed the atmosphere, but ambiance, does not get you the 4.4 stars that people have rated this establishment, and the product was definitely lacking. Great concept, just doesn't live up to the hype. There are better places closer to Slack Park that offer better quality and hot food.

I visited Gonzoburger on my way through town at the recommendation of a otr trucker friend. Ordered the Gonzo fries and some sliders. Fries were average but the burgers were outstanding! I'll definitely stop by any time I'm in the area.
