Regardless of which side of the political aisle you are on, you can bet that this bbq spot from the former Mayor of Charleston will knock your socks off! Not only is the food delicious, the service is great, the portions are generous and the prices are right. The sauce had a little bit of tang to it and a unique flavor I hadn't experienced before. It played great on both the half chicken and the ribs. The baked beans, macaroni salad and potato salad were wonderful supporting characters but the chili was definitely competing to be the star of the show. It was so yummy we didn't even use crackers so we could savor its taste. The service was excellent and started even before we got in the door. Mr. Jones happened to be outside when we arrived and even though he didn't know we were coming to his place, asked my husband if he needed quarters for the meter when he was trying to figure it out (we don't get out much and haven't used the slick new card reader type). When we did go inside, we were spoken to several times and assisted way more than we expected. It was very refreshing. We enjoyed our visit here and will be back as soon as we can. I highly recommend visiting this place. Your taste buds and the small business owner will thank you.

As soon as I walked in the door, I was met with a warm and welcoming smile by the gentleman (I believe it was Danny?) cooking in the back. He and the cashier behind the counter were lovely and the food was fantastic, I had the BBQ sandwich with potato salad, but will definitely be trying the ribs on my next visit. For those wondering it was reminiscent of a sweet southern BBQ sauce. They weren't hiding the meat in a bucket of sauce which I appreciated and it wasn't overly 'wet' or thin... it was just right. Danny is apparently the "Goldilocks" of Charleston BBQ.

In town for business and was desperately hungry after a long day with no lunch. Tried Danny's based on Google reviews. Man did it not disappoint. Wonderfully seasoned and tender ribs. Great sauce that wasn't overly sweet. Beans and coleslaw were also top tier. For someone used to Chicago food prices, full slab with two sides and a drink for under $20, come on. Amazing for food that tastes this good. Danny and his staff are very friendly as well. Can't think of a single complaint. You're lucky to have this place Charleston!

With a 4.9 on Google, the family decided to stop on our way home through Charleston. It was worth every minute off highway as we got the treat of eating lunch with Charleston's former major, Danny Jones. The conversation was memorable as Danny treated the children as if they were his own grandchildren. On top of that, the food was perfectly smoked with a savory sweet barbecue sauce that was to good to leave any on the plate. We won't forget this stop and we will be spreading the word of the best BBQ stand. Thank you Danny!!!

Danny Jones has some excellent barbecue. Our family stopped in at Danny’s Barbecue and had a great lunch. Danny is quiet the historical figure as you will notice upon entering his place. He was mayor 4 times and sheriff once. Served in legislature and friends with many prominent politicians. Also is a United Stayes Marine and Vietnam Veteran. Absolutely amazing place! Went on a Saturday and they had a buy one get one free bbq sandwich deal. The owner was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Can’t say enough about the ribs, they fall right off the bone. This place is a must if you visit Charleston!

Having tried BBQ in St. Louis, KC, Texas and the Carolinas, Danny’s special take on BBQ is a must try. I won’t try to put his unique blend in any sort of box, I will just say it is worth the stop if your in town or by even just passing through. The ribs are fall off the bone delicious, the BBQ sandwich was equally flavorful and all the sides were the perfect compliment to the entrees. Couple the good food with friendly service and a family friendly environment— what more could you ask for?!

Ribs and bbq sandwich during a quick lunch stop was great. The smoked potato salad with pimentos complimented the ribs perfectly. Glad we had a chance to stop in. The first words that come to mind describing Danny's BBQ Stand is... YUMMY! Keep in mind that this IS exactly what its name says... a BBQ stand. You don't go to Danny's for the fancy decor, the fine table linens, the place settings with 5 different forks, 3-4 knives, & half dozen spoons, soft candlelight & real flowers, a classy maître d' & a dozen wait-staff for every table. That's also the place where the final tab could buy you a decent used car these days (or a new car back in the 60s-70s!). Danny's is not THAT place. However, if you want really good food that's super quick & easy, served up by consistently friendly people in casual surroundings, then this is the place for you. You definitely must try Danny's signature BBQ ribs, which come in different serving sizes depending on your appetite. There's also smoked chicken, BBQ sandwiches, chili, & a choice of sides, each just as delicious as the others. Hubs & I usually call our order in, then swing by to pick up our order (10-15 minutes max from calling in to pick-up). Some days & at certain times, parking can be a little tricky, but usually we can park right at the front door. There are a few small tables inside for sit-down diners & when the weather allows, there's also a couple of outside tables for extra seating. Whether you choose to carry out or dine in, be sure to take some extra time to really look at all the historic old photos, newspaper clippings, & other collectibles of the Charleston area & some of the city's well-known visitors Danny met over the 50+ years he has spent in business & in politics.

This place is the cutest and so quaint. It definitely fits in with the Charleston vibe. The owner Danny, has so much history and you can see it all over the restaurant. This has got to be the best BBQ in the Charleston area. The ribs are incredible, the sauce is a great combination of sweet and tangy while the meat just falls off the bone. The pulled pork sandwich with a side for 6 bucks is such a great deal especially for lunch. The food is always HOT, fresh, and usually ready for me to pick up in a matter of minutes.

Solid place! Ribs are full slab (1 or 2) slabs. Falls off the bone. Danny is there cooking them. Very polite and very generous portions. Visiting and saw this place. Ribs are in this delicious meat sauce. Not to sweet. Clean and very nice meal for $12. Can't beat that.

Perhaps the most outstanding restaurant I've ever been to. The best Barbeque I've ever had. Terrific service from nice people. The wall is lined with pictures of famous people (U.S. presidents, senators, etc.) who have come through town to meet the owner, who was the mayor of Charleston for 16 years. We visited while driving through all the way from Minnesota, and they made us feel right at home.

Great ribs! I usually get brisket when I have the opportunity for BBQ, but sadly Danny's is only pork and chicken. If you are looking for your white meats, this is the place to come. Also no fries, cornbread, Mac & cheese or other starches. Just beans, potato salad, Mac salad, and coleslaw. If that is your jam, Danny's will do you right.

I'm not a BBQ fan but my friend David wanted to go. I had the chili since you know not a BBQ fan. It was great. Danny got the food ready and was very friendly. These guys are open Tuesday thru Saturday 11am to 7pm. Highly recommend! Shared a great plate of ribs while chatting with the owner Danny. Great food, cool atmosphere, clean and interesting decor. Great place to take your special someone for a date or take your veteran family for a special treat. Can’t say enough good! Tasty food.

The food was fantastic, the ribs were nice and smoky and fell right off the bone. The owner Danny was very friendly! We walked in as a group of 9 and he was able to arrange seating and get us all food in less than 10 minutes. Danny’s story is impressive and the many news articles on the wall show it. As a visitor from NJ one of the first things I did after settling in was to seek out a BBQ joint and Danny's BBQ did not disappoint. I received a warm welcome and friendly conversation as soon as I walked in. I ordered ribs with potato salad and baked beans and they were excellent. The ribs were tender with just the right amount of Danny's tangy sauce. Friendly people, great BBQ and a charming space. Danny's hits all the marks. I will be back. My only regret is that I don't live closer.

Very good barbeque. We are accustomed to vinegar based Eastern NC barbeque but we enjoy all types. Danny's barbeque is neither Eastern NC nor St. Louis style but some where in between. My son had the ribs and he enjoyed them so much he wanted to get some to go. Danny is very personable and greats you with a smile the moment you walk through the door. This place made my day! The restaurant is the whole package. Danny and his helper were great to chat with and made us feel right at home. The restaurant feels like stepping into your grandparents’ kitchen and the walls are loaded with newspaper articles highlighting Danny’s wide ranging service to the Charleston community and the country (USMC). Between my family and I, we ordered ribs, the BBQ sandwich, and BBQ chicken, baked beans, cole slaw and macaroni salad. Food was excellent, fairly priced, and we devoured everything on our plates. The BBQ was sweet and savory but not heavy and the ribs were falling off the bone. Danny’s is a place with a heartbeat and clearly a lot of pride and love behind it. I’ll absolutely be coming back. Places like this don’t come around often, do yourself a favor and stop in!

Come for the food, stay for the story. Danny’s BBQ is a unique spot for great BBQ. The ribs seem to be the special but I had the pulled pork and baked beans and they were also great. From the moment we walked in we were intrigued. There are lots of really cool and interesting old newspaper articles on the walls. We were instantly greeted by the owners who were very nice and pleasant. We ordered a BBQ sandwich and a side. I chose the macaroni salad and my boyfriend chose baked beans. The BBQ was amazing, hot, fresh and delicious flavor. The macaroni salad and baked beans were great. I cannot believe I had never noticed that place before. It was our first time eating there and based on atmosphere and the experience we will definitely be back. The music that was playing was super classy. Adds to the flair of the place. Very nice!!

Danny is an absolute gem, and his barbeque is TOP NOTCH! I had the ribs, and I am not exaggerating when I say I pulled every rib bone out with one hand. The portions are more than generous, but exactly the right amount. The baked beans are fantastic! The chili was very flavorful, and had very little heat. The barbeque sandwich was sweet and flavorful, but wasn't heavy in my stomach. The coleslaw complimented the barbeque perfectly. The homemade cheesy croutons served with the chili was just the right touch. I cannot wait to be travelling through Charleston again, as I will definitely be stopping here for a wonderful food experience.

While traveling through this past sat I google searched BBQ restaurants near me. The top one that pulled up was Danny's. When I travel I prefer to stop local places. Of all the places I have traveled (37 states) Danny's ranks high in the top 5 places I have been to. The bbq sandwich I had a sweet heat to it and the beans were amazing. My girlfriend had the sandwich and the potato salad, she said it's the best she has ever had. The service was above amazing. On a rainy sat, the bbq and service made for wonderful pick me up. Will definitely be coming back if I am ever in the area again.

This is an amazing place to get bbq. The food comes out fast and hot. Very welcoming. The smoked potato salad is spot on. The BBQ sandwiches are very fulfilling. Danny accommodates on to go orders. Outstanding chili. The Chicken and ribs are really good as are the sides. I liked Danny as Mayor and he knows good bar-b-que folks. I am sugar adverse so I asked for the ribs and chicken naked with no sauce, Danny was happy to accommodate me. Take it home, cover it with sugar free sauce, heat and enjoy ! Great ribs! I’ve been eating ribs for almost 60 years and cooking them with my own sauces for about 40 years. Danny’s are some of the best that I’ve ever had. Even in this stressful pandemic time and the need for take out only, the service was very friendly, and my order was ready & waiting for me when I arrived. Even with social distancing and their busy workload, I was able to have a friendly conversation with Danny before I left. This was the, first time for me to eat out anywhere in a very long time. My husband and I have been wanting to eat here since Danny's opened. The food is fresh, full of taste, and so delicious. I had the smoked chicken chef salad and my husband had the BBQ sandwich with coleslaw. A friend eating with us had BBQ sandwich with coleslaw and baked beans on the side. We were passing through, and it is right off the highway, so we found ourselves stopping in for some quick BBQ. The owner was helpful and recommended the ribs. I normally steer clear of ribs because they are hard to eat and messy. That wasn't the case here, and the knife I grabbed went unused as the meat fell right off the bone. The BBQ sauce was perfect for me. I like a thin consistency, and the flavor was great. Danny knows what he is doing. My only suggestion would be to offer a larger selection of sides. Personally I love fries with BBQ, but I realize it might be difficult to have a deep fryer in such a small restaurant. My second choice is mashed potatoes, and my third is macaroni and cheese, but let's be honest, the BBQ is good enough to bring me back regardless.

We had the pork BBQ and it was some of the best we've ever had. That's high praise because we'd eaten Q from sea to shining sea. Danny's is outstanding. Slightly sweet but with a nice bite, chopped pork with the sauce cooked in (not poured on) and a generous portion on a good quality bun. What more could you ask for? Oh, the slaw's good too.

We drove from Ohio to meet a cousin from NC. Danny’s was the first place that popped up with such a great reviews so we decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. Danny and the lady working with him were amazing, the atmosphere was great and the food was DELICIOUS! We will definitely be back when we come through WV. this was a great lunch stop, we stopped in and I got convinced on a full rack of ribs with potato salad and baked beans. The rack was huge and the meat came right off the bone, was great in the smokey sweet vinegary BBQ sauce. The baked beans were also amazing. My wife had a great pulled pork bbq sandwich with coleslaw on top but the star for her was the chilli. To top this all off the best part of the experience is reading the walls covered in Danny’s life story and talking with the man himself. Incredible life, great story teller! We’ll be back for sure.

EASY to understand why Danny's has so many 5-star ratings. We are road warriors, trying KC BBQ, St. Louis BBQ, Texas BBQ, and of course Detroit, Michigan (home) BBQ, but Danny's in Charleston, West Virginia is second to none of them. The sauce leans slightly to the vinegar side, but still nice and balanced; however the real star is the meat itself!!!! The ribs were top quality, falling off the bone, and flavorful; not relying on the sauce to bring all the flavor. Tried all 4 sides, but the cole slaw, which lean's to the creamy side (not the vinegar side), was a real winner for me. Might have to come back to Charleston, WV just for Danny's BBQ Ribs.
