Richard and his wife catered our wedding in July. We were so happy with their service and food. They were so sweet and attentive. They prepared charcuterie boards for our cocktail hour, and we had a buffet with two meat options (Herb-Roasted Pork Tenderloin, and Champagne Chicken) with Mac n Cheese, mashed potatoes, and home-style green beans for dinner. They also provided rolls and drinks too. We received such good feedback and compliments from our guests. We were so thankful and happy to have them a be a part of our day. I highly recommend this couple and their business/team for any of your catering needs!

Great food. Great entertainment on open mic night. I had the pickled brine chicken, two breakfast nitro stouts (should have stopped at one!) And blueberry pie dessert. I would eat here again. The locals tell me the trout and grits are to die for.

Great selection, especially if you like vegetarian or vegan food. Homemade dressings are nice. Wish the live music could be seen/heard in the restaurant area, not only the bar. I eat there every 2 years when in town. Waitress delightful!

Great restaurant in Charleston that is perfect for visitors to the city. Many of the ingredients used are locally grown, raised, and processed. The food tastes wonderful and the restaurant is decorated with work from local artists. Often there is live music to help set the relaxed environment. A gem for the city!

My family and I ate here while traveling from out-of-town. It was modern and homey -- a nice small town restaurant. They also have vegan options, and our waitress was very accommodating. She also gave great recommendations of places for us to visit while in town!

I visited Bluegrass Kitchen for the second time a few days ago and I haven't been disappointed either time. It's a wonderful little local joint with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu has a wide variety of dishes to choose from and they change it up every once in a while so you'll have some new things to try from time to time. During my first visit in January, I got the poutine and I loved it. Unfortunately, they had taken the poutine off the menu before my recent visit (the bartender told me there's a possibility they could bring it back since it's such a popular dish), so this time I got their mac and cheese and french fries. The fries were good, as always, and the mac and cheese was to die for. The rich, creamy cheese sauce took it over the top. I highly recommend Bluegrass Kitchen.

Had brunch with a friend last weekend and it was AMAZING. My Bloody Mary was well made, and the shrimp and grits was a delicious and hearty portion. I tried it with the potato pancake instead of the poached egg and it was great. The restaurant had a nice, eclectic vibe and the big open windows in the back near my seat let in good natural light. Great place to go on a Sunday afternoon.

I recently had dinner there with my wife and mother-in-law. All of us were very thrilled with the food and the waiter was terrific funny guy but very attentive. The decor was kind of interesting, not at all what you would expect to see. I'd almost call it sort of trendy. There were plenty of people in there and it was a fair amount of noise but that's what you get when the place is popular and busy. I liked it, and we'll be sure to go back again next time I'm in Charleston.

Home made chips were amazing and fresh made. The hamburger was no frozen patty and tasty especially with the pimento cheese. The ambiance was great. We were welcomed by great employees and a great server, Rose. Not from the area, but will come back every time I'm in the area. Thanks for the experience guys!

This is my favorite restaurant! We are from Sharon, Pa and this restaurant is sooo worth going to! Their attention to detail and service is outstanding, a true culinary gem in Charleston, West Virginia. Breakfast or Lunch, both are excellent, service is excellent, their so good, be prepared to wait for a table for Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere is hip with bluegrass bands on the weekend! A must stop when your in town!

Wow. I loved my Vegetarian Burger. The place was soo interesting and informative. Postings for all the concerts in the area. Beautiful decor that fit the theme. I had a gin and tonic that was great and they have a wonderful selection of drinks to choose from. I definitely am putting this one on the must do when in Charleston list . I loved that the whole staff was friendly and helpful but not intrusive.

Love it. Food is top notch. Some locally sourced ingredients combined with fresh takes on traditional meals create a fine menu. The environment is quite artsy and comfortable. The beer selection is great with plenty of variety. They have a wonderful all you can drink mimosa or Bloody Mary brunch. Service is above average. Try the blueberry buttermilk pie. It is excellent.

I like this restaurant. The service is always good and the food never disappoints. I had dinner here with my partner on a recent Friday eve. Jeff had the pork chops with sweet mashed potatoes and asparagus and liked it very much. I had the fish and chips which were served hot and delicious and a very good spinach salad with fresh vegetables, warm bacon and strawberry vinaigrette- yum!

This place has always been a neighborhood favorite for me and family--we've been going since it opened. Although the menu used to be better when the legendary perfect chicken sandwich reigned (or perhaps I'm too nostalgic) this is far and away the best organic and possibly vegetarian/vegan food in Charleston and the half pound hamburger is still awesome. The specials, which change every day, have always been a great option. Seafood is very good for Charleston. The arctic char and PEI mussels are recommended if or when they show up. Get organic sodas with real sugar or lemonade for kids. Service has almost always been great, and I say that as someone who has seen the waitstaff turn over many times across the years. You can buy the art off the walls if interested--pricey as one might expect. I've never been to the live music, but I know that some fairly interesting local bands are always on offer. The owners are wonderful people. Grab a fortune cookie on your way out.

This is a charming, hippie-chic spot, with outstanding food, and occasionally interesting love music. The live music is not in the main dining area, so the noise from that isn't too bad, but I would love it if they'd find just a few sound absorbing tiles to quiet the noise of conversation during the meal. With that complaint out of the way, I still recommend BGK unequivocally because of the outstanding food. The shrimp and grits I had for lunch were simply delicious, and the corned beef and hash got good reviews at our table also.

I went to this place 6 months ago and I'm still thinking about what a great meal I had. My boyfriend and I have traveled quite a bit and if this isn't our absolute favorite place that we've ever eaten, then it is certainly top 3. My fish was PERFECTLY cooked. All of the sides were amazing. Desserts were great also. Such a comfortable space to enjoy a meal. Live music... I really can't write a positive enough review.

We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. Service was on point and the food was delicious. Bf had the asparagus sandwich and the flavors were great. I had the 1/2 pound burger with homemade pimento cheese. Delicious! Burger was cooked perfectly. Everything was great.

What a gem! Outstanding, attentive service and the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. The green tomato chow chow was the perfect addition to an already amazing fried chicken filet. Nice assortment of wines and craft beers as well.

We liked the funky Austin vibe. The salads were nice and fresh. We had the pork chop dish and it was quite good. Once the live music started it was very relaxing. The kitchen did seem a bit challenged with the Saturday night crowd.

Killer food, great service and ambience. It's conveniently located, not far at all from an interstate exit. The beverage selection is excellent; there's sure to be a match for whatever food you order. Oh, and that food? It's going to rock your taste buds right out of that little pink hole in your face which will be forever changed. Better eat your favorite foods now while you still have a chance to enjoy them, because after this, you won't be able to appreciate anything else.

My fiancee and I found this spot through Yelp while driving through West Virginia on our way to Florida. Its super cute and feels very homey. They are reasonably priced (less than $30 for 2 meals). You can tell they support local artists as there were flyers and artwork covering the walls. If I lived in Charleston, this would definitely be a regular spo .

Fantastic beer selection! Didn't eat much food though, but we did have the fried green tomatoes... if you're a person from the country, you know how much of a staple these things are. I can tell you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, they execute these splendidly! The breading adhered to the tomatoes perfectly, they were not a bit oily, and had the perfect amount of crunch to them. The dipping sauce was not bad, but ultimately not needed. I very highly recommend these!

Kinda neat, kinda quirky but very cool. The waiter was nice, food was excellent. There seems to be a lot of what I would call old hippies there the night I was there, so that's my kind of crowd. Was a good pleasant experience. Slightly pricey but the food was delicious. One of those sayings - you get what you pay for. Well worth the trip

This place was fantastic. Fresh food, plenty of menu variety and a great beer list. Our server, Wes, was friendly and knowledgeable and provided great recommendations. The homemade bleu cheese salad dressing and beer cheese fondue were both excellent and I loved the artisan French dip. If you're in the area, don't miss out on eating here!

We went here for brunch on a Sunday after staying in Charleston for the night. The corned beef hash stack was to die for... so so good (and I'm not a huge fan of corned beef hash). It was more like brisket (perfectly crispy on the edges) served over a potato pancake with gravy on top. The sourdough toast served with it seems so basic but was also delicious. Staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait at all to be seated. The ambiance is eclectic, a lot of art on the walls and great natural light coming through the windows. Definitely don't miss out on this one if you are in town.

I love breakfast food, and consider myself a brunch connoisseur. I thought I'd had the best there is. I thought I'd seen it all. I was wrong. On a whim while driving from Lewisburg to Louisville, my wife and I stopped in here. I didn't know what to expect, and wasn't expecting much. We sat at the bar, and both ordered the Corned Beef Hash Stack. And that's where my expectations collided face first with reality. This is the best plate of brunch food to ever grace my mouth. I'm from Kansas, and we think we know a little about beef down there. We don't know a damn thing. This is the best representation of beef that has ever been made. The saltiness, crunchiness (it's both crunchy and tender at the same time! Every bite!), coupled with the perfect amount of peppered gravy and thinly sliced sauted peppers and onions. This is how breakfast should be served. Every day. We will be back.

In town visiting my dad from time to time and we always look for healthy restaurants. Service is good, friendly and prompt and food delicious! Seasonal recipes with great flavor! Had a veggie burger on our last visit and would have been better if they offered gluten free buns. Hope they realize it's not necessary to make everything fresh in house. Udi's make good gluten free breads.

Very cozy and versatile restaraunt. The smaller room has a stage and just a few tables with full bar. Music is top notch! The large room has plenty of tables and because it is rather far from stage it is quiet there, enough to have a friendly conversation or romantic chit-chat. Definitely recommend their menu and service. 5 stars!

The appetizer, entrees, beers, and dessert were all delicious. The server was on point and the gracious host even came over to wedge our table to a stable level when he noticed it was wobbling. We had the luck to sit next to 2 tables of interesting, friendly locals that gave us tips on places to visit while in town. The venue is offbeat, charming, and satisfying. (The beer cheese fondue, pickle-brined fried chicken, and blueberry pie-cake are all highly recommended.)

We were traveling and stopped in here for a quick dinner. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. They had a jazz act playing light music in the other room that really tied everything together as well. The walls were adorned with local art, and the staff made everyone feel right at home. The pork chop I had was so tender it could have been cut by a spoon, and the sweet/spicy sauce it came with wasn't what I was expecting, but was exactly what I needed. We don't usually eat desert, but the staff convinced us we should, and when we neglected to order the house specialty, they threw in a slice just for the hell of it! I hope to be able to return sometime when I am in less of a hurry so I can try more of their dishes!

fun, cool and hip; a young, vibrant and energetic feel; one half is bar and the other is restaurant. lots of local inspired art is presented in this nest, old building with a stamped tin ceiling, old wood floors and exposed brick. diverse menu taking classics and putting a twist on them. salads, sandwiches and dessertsare available in the afternoon and then later entrees are made available. we very much enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. i hope that the next time we're in town we can catch some live music or an open mic night

Blue grass feels like an open friendly space. Whether you're eating as a family or as a group out to crawl some pubs. The food is good, and the live bands are nice. Sometimes it can get a little hot in there, but most of the time its a comfortable place.

AH-mazing. That’s all I’ve got to say about this place. I just moved here from Dallas, and was a little worried about my culinary options in WV. I shouldn’t have been concerned. Bluegrass Kitchen is beyond any dream I could possibly have for a culinary masterpiece. So let’s break it down, shall we? John, the Awesome incredible guy that took care of us gave some great suggestions, and steered us through the menu since we were newbies and he absolutely did no wrong. He was perfect and I am fully planning on adopting him if he’s up for it! We were going to just have one appetizer, but the ladies next to us got the house fries, so we had to do that too. They were delicious. Home made, hot and fresh, with great dipping sauce. I mean seriously, bacon aioli?? How can you go wrong there? We also had the artichoke hearts which were superb. I had the shrimp and grits, ole ball and chain had the pork chops. Oh. My. Gawd. That’s all I gots to say about that. So damn good, I won’t go into complete detail here but try it for yourself. You can thank me later. And the final act? Cause you know, I had sooo much room left for dessert. Ole ball and chain doesn’t like to share his dessert so we ordered two. He had the Blueberry Buttermilk pie and I had the Brûlée Cheesecake. I swear on my first bite, I heard angels weep. And I’m Catholic, so I definitely know when I hear a weeping angel. This place is so damn good, I’m going back as soon as I can. I don’t know why you’re still reading a damn review. Go there now. NOW. Cause if I beat you there, I can’t promise I’ll leave anything left for you. ~k

I neither disliked or terribly enjoyed my experience. The waiter was awesome though and the restaurant clean. I had the meatloaf with the green tomato gravy. I take issue with the "green tomato gravy". It was one of the weirdest things I've ever tasted. Gravy is flour and fat. This was more like a chunky warm salsa. It didn't quite mesh with the dish very well. And the idea of putting meatloaf on a sandwich with the mashed potatoes as part of the sandwich is just messy. I ended up eating it open faced. Again, service was great but the food was just a little too "hip".

These guys do flavor! Everything is spectacular. Pork chop was out of this world with great mustard sauce and sweet potato mash. Za'atar chicken was charred perfectly and the chickpeas couldn't have been better. Cauliflower bread, tomato soup, everything was top notch. Great gluten free options, great environment, great music (that wasn't too loud... Just great background). Prices reasonable for quality and quantity. Come here hungry, leave pickin' and grinnin'.

Food was good but service was questionable. While GF options are listed as a possibility there were only a few. At first the server appeared attentive but despite being notified of a gluten allergy at the table she made no note of it on her pad and the food came with toast TOUCHING the meal. She offered to just remove the toast. Another server arrived and was more helpful at removing the contaminated food. The wait was also VERY long.

Met a friend here for a drink. There was a really good group playing in the bar. I tasted the fresh local chanterelle mushrooms. They'd unfortunately been deep fried and were heavy and greasy. The flavor of the deep fry fat overwhelmed the flavor of the mushrooms. I've eaten meals here several times and have always been more than pleased, so I'll count this as a one time mistake.

The place is airy, a bit hip looking and very down-home comfortable. The wild-something Alfredo was extremely good, the selection of beer was limited but included some good choices, and the waiter went out of his way to make sure the meal met my allergy-related needs. I will come back, for sure!

Usually the food is awesome. They must have been having a bad night. Because the food wasn't very good the fries were cold and tasted like they they had been cooked early and reheated, the pita bread was very stale. The mashed potatoes, maybe cooked yesterday reheated then mashed.

Let's get straight to it... the place is dirty. And not like a sexy dirty, or back woods, campfire style dirty. This place has flies, gnats, bugs, ants... honestly, the only place that seemed clean to me was that bathroom, so that's a plus. Please don't hate on me too much for this. The food was really good. I mean, REALLY good. It's a shame that the really good food has to sit in the form of me swatting gnats and flies away in order to enjoy said food.

Fantastic! The beer cheese fondue was a great appetizer. I had the braised short ribs which were incredibly tender and delicious, and my mother had the sea bass which was the best she's ever had. She's traveled all over the world, but she says the Bluegrass Kitchen is on her short list.

Such a great place. Walked in to a three piece bluegrass band--stellar way to start a meal. The meatloaf was flavor explosion, trout was perfect, pizza a tad overlooked but tasty, sons rib philly so good. Drinks were creative yet classy. Ambiance five stars. Boon for charleston.

I had a good waiter and all but the food was not what I ordered and the wait for food was very long. It had nice vibes but it was hard to notice with my stomach growling. I was there for 2 hours! Passing though the town on a road trip. Came in and sat at the bar. Waited for 15mins before even being asked what I would like to drink and given a menu. Not cool. Yep it's a Sunday at lunch time! How about having the right amount of staff for your bar area. Ended up having to get the omelet .....after being told they don't have gluten free bread and my second choice they were out of potato skins to make it. Probably won't be back. Poorly run business model. 😒
