Reviews of Hen of the Wood - Burlington
Love this place! The ambiance and food is absolutely stellar. My partner and I have celebrated several occasions at Hen of the Woods and will happily return for more.
Their Parker house rolls are quite possibly the most delicious bread you'll taste in Vermont. Soft pillows of deliciousness. I generally end up ordering most, if not all of the small plates, for great sharing options and to really get a sense of the entire menu. Don't skip on the cured ham if that's available, or their signature mushroom toast, and be sure to leave room for a cheese or two to end your meal. Cocktails are delightful and use local spirits and ingredients, reflecting the overall ethos of the restaurant. I recommend this place for cozy dates, big celebrations, and any time you want to enjoy local products.
Wow, we were recommended by fellow skiers on the lift and it didn't disappoint at all. We got to sit at the chef's counter and being someone who has been in the restaurant my whole life it was a pleasure to watch these guys work. Super professional and the whole kitchen works as a well oiled machine. The food was equally as impressive, the menu changes frequently, so if they have it, the duck was amazing and even my girlfriend who doesn't like duck tried it, and agreed it was delicious. Finished with an Espresso martini which was a perfect finish to the perfect dinner with my special girl!
We were invited to Hen of the Wood while we were in Burlington and I couldn’t have been happier with our experience.
They have taken great care to cultivate a fine dining ambience that is not overcrowded or pretentious. The Farm To Table experience offered is one of the things we love most about the town of Burlington, Vermont.
The food itself is delicious. We had a variety of cold seafood, steaks, vegetables and dessert - all were excellent.
Do not skip dessert. Their olive oil lemon cake is SO GOOD. 🍋 I promise it’s worth all of the calories!
Last minute Walk-in and were offered a spot at the bar. Best decision of the day. The pastrami duck was an delicious surprise and the work put into the veggies definitely shows. My personal highlight, the olive oil cake. You will not be disappointed!
Hen of the wood is an incredibly quality restaurant and has earned its solid reputation. Went there for a date night and while it’s definitely on the more expensive side, it’s worth it. I had the grilled broccoli entree and my boyfriend has the porchetta, we were wildly impressed. We also ordered two different cheese plates which never fail to delight. Drinks were great too. The ambience is really rustic but modern, and I felt super comfortable. Service was incredibly kind and attentive. Definitely a great place for a more special occasion!
My favorite restaurant of all time. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and kind. Food is out of this world. Cocktails are amazing. Great date night, or place to bring a client of in town. I go here every time I’m in Vermont
Amazing Dishes.. that we went for dinner again. Right next to busy Church Street. Seasonal menu with fresh ingredients.. Friendly staff.. Bar Tender shared recipes for her cocktails.. great interiors as well.. Food was amazing!!
What a lovely farm to table experience this place provides! My friend and I were not disappointed as we truly enjoyed the experience they provided for us. Our waiter Chris did a fantastic job of explaining everything to us and being honest about the selection of food. We enjoyed the pear appetizer along with the duck and the swordfish. I highly recommend all the above as the food was exquisite and memorable! I wish I lived in the area so I could come back and eat there again often.
Nice fresh plates, but a little too hyped up and expensive. Food was alright but nothing was mind blowing.
Cocktails were creative and delicious, but expensive. The cheapest bottle of wine that was offered was $50…
It’s one of those places where you go and check out once, but don’t make it a regular spot.
Service was kind and attentive. All the staff there are really nice and knowledgeable. I also liked the rustic decor and the open kitchen concept as well.
There were no reservations available, but two of us got a walk in right when they opened. There was already a line out the door in -20 degrees, but we were fortunate enough to sit in front of the chefs.
We ordered a few different dishes. You could taste the intent in each bite. The endive and venison tartare were especially unique and delicious. The cocktails were also great, I had to get the one with mezcal and repasoado twice. The menu rotates, so I can't wait to be back.
I was not expecting food quite this thoughtful and of such high quality! I’ve traveled a lot (and live in Manhattan), and this rivaled places with Michelin stars (and honestly is a much better dining experience than a lot of those places…). Please go here. As soon as possible- and have the duck if it’s on the menu!
I’ve want to make it here for years, and it did not disappoint! Fresh, local, and deliciously prepared food in a relaxed atmosphere that is reflective of the beauty of Vermont. The staff are always incredibly friendly and attentive.
Just as good as at the flagship in Waterbury.
We got a late night rez, but even at 10pm on a Wednesday, the place was lively.
Dimely lit but warmed by the fire going in the open kitchen.
Very professional service. Efficient and knowledgeable.
Very nice wine list.
Lots of similar dishes as in the original restaurant, like the fabulous duck breast. The swordfish, the kale cannelloni, everything was excellent. Great cheese selection, goes great with dessert wine.
A special, splurgy night out and a memorable meal for sure.
We shared several dishes:. Pickled Mussels, Sword Fish Fritters, and Honey nut Squash. Menu changes daily Great cocktail selection. All of the food was very good. Very attractive restaurant with a lively atmosphere.
Absolutely delectable food of the highest quality. If you have a chance, sit at the counter by the kitchen! You get to watch these masterful chefs creating your food and the fine touches that make all the difference. A bit pricey but SO WORTH IT. If you only have time to eat at one restaurant in Burlington, go here.
Tasty food, attentive service, great wine selection, and really good cocktails. The decor and ambiance really make this place special. For a more expensive, fancy night out Hen of the Wood really fits the bill. Hope once everything settles down it'll be easier to get a table and they'll bring back happy hour oysters 🤞
10/10 definitely recommend. Worth the hype. The best meal we’ve had in town. From the local cheese courses to the locally brewed craft beer, oysters and beef. We may have eaten an entirely locally sourced, culinary delight of a meal. Rob the bartender (and server since we ate at the bar) was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. A true assets to the staff. Well done. We will return next time we are in Burlington.
My family and I went there for a celebratory dinner last night. The food was amazing, the service was great, the timing of the food being brought out was to a ‘t’. Our waiter was excellent-he was humorous, very knowledgeable about the wine list and menu. We had the rolls, oysters, fried scallops, steak share size with eggs, fried green tomatoes and polenta-it was the best. We also had all 3 vegetables and steamed calamari. Amazing wine list.
Blown away by the ambiance and experience of Hen of the Wood! Watching the amazing chefs create dinner is the best entertainment in Burlington!
I was very excited to try Hen Of The Wood, I herd great things and some of it lived up to my expectation. Our service at the bar was great, the bar tender knew his audience and was very knowledgeable on the food and libations. The atmosphere was excellent, exactly what you would expect for a fine dinning experience. We didn't feel rushed to order and appreciated the relaxed service. The cocktails were fabulous, and the sparkling water was a nice touch over regular filtered tap water. Food came out quickly, warm and presented nicely, but that's where the positive review ends. For the price of the plates I would either expect more volume or more flavor, the striped bass was bland and was paired with 6 snow peas and a couple cubes of cucumber. Topped with a red sauce with almost no flavor. If they upped the flavor or volume of food I would give it a second chance.
Must visit location. I don't even know where to begin with this restaurant. From the moment the door opens, you enter another world. The ambiance is next level and unlike anyplace I have been. It has every detail down to perfection from the lighting to the artistic ceiling. The kitchen is open, and you can sit at a bar and watch the chefs prepare your meal.
The bar is as you walk in and is U shaped, accommodating a large number of seats.
The hostess staff is friendly and provided options for us. You need to book ahead. We luckily snagged a 930pm opening, and it was well worth the wait.
The food is cooked to perfection, and you don't want to miss out on the Parker rolls.
I had the swordfish, and my daughter had the duck. It was cooked to perfection.
I will make sure to visit when I am back in Vermont.
This is the one place in Burlington that you have to eat at. Yes, there other good restaurants but this is #1. It’s got it all: food, staff & vibe.
Incredible meal - I had the kale cannelloni with hen of the woods mushrooms, husband had the pork loin. Both were so delicious. We also found our new favorite cheese. Drinks were wonderful as well. Grace, our server, was so lovely. Can’t wait to come back again.
Fine dining in Burlington! Every experience here is perfectly paced and delicious. Highly recommend the Ribeye for two and do not skip dessert. Always a delight to dine at Hen of the Wood at either location.
Excellent food and service! My only complaint is it’s dark inside and I needed my cell phone 🔦 to read menu 😂👵. And I would recommend they provide a non-alcoholic/mocktail menu.
Overpriced but fairly amazing.
We ordered the mushroom toast, broccoli (main dish) and spaetzl (side dish). I had the For the Bees and Aviation cocktail.
The mushroom toast was amazing! The texture of the mushrooms was dynamic; crunchy and tender. The flavor was very savory, with plenty of smoky and salty notes, imparted from the bacon I believe. The poached egg on top was cooked perfectly, with a creamy and runny yolk. The toast itself was also delicious in itself, cooked with oil/butter in the pan.
The broccoli was charred to perfection, ontop of a bed of a scrumptious puree. All the flavors were complimentary.
There was a variety of environments to choose from; the socially distanced and airy outdoor seating, the lively chefs table where you can observe the magic happen, and sultry booths or a bar where you can relax.
I also appreciated how they print the menu daily, experimentating with new dishes frequently.
We were so glad that we were able to finally go to this restaurant. Had a reservation for a few years ago but they had a fire in the kitchen. The food was perfect and I was holding back urges to lick the plates clean. The lamb tartar was something I had never though of and their use of the fennel and mint made the flavor of the lamb come to life. Their handling of safety during these times is also above and beyond most places. Cannot wait to go again!
Best restaurant in Burlington. Book in advance and enjoy a great meal.
The drinks are exceptional. I havent tried the food but from how everything looked while i was there with a friend getting drinks, i would absolutely suggest hen of the wood for a romantic night out with a loved one, or for catching up/getting to know friends of old and new. Lovely little spot tucked away in downtown Burlington next to Hotel Vermont ! ☺️
Slightly overhyped. It's decent enough, but the menu is very limited and does not take into account any dietary restrictions or preferences. Best oysters in town for sure. It's good, but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype or price. It's probably the closest Vermont gets to fine dining.
The food was delicious. Well thought out flavors. Our server was very knowledgeable also.
Don’t waste your money elsewhere, this is the spot. Whether it’s a birthday, a promotion, or an anniversary then this is the place to go. It’s high end without being pretentious but you still get that cozy at home feel.
Most people who sit at Hen face the open kitchen and for good reason, the food takes center stage. It’s rich and it’s French trained but that doesn’t mean overly oiled or buttered.
Let’s talk bar/drinks. Surprisingly, it’s really good. Usually with chef run kitchen then the bar lacks but not at hen. The drinks are interesting and their bourbon selection is outstanding.
If you’re local then make this spot your regular bc the price point is worth it and I can personally say that any money that I’ve spent on other high end restaurants felt misplaced after going to hen.
We walked in and grabbed a seat at the bar the minute they opened and it started to fill up very quickly afterwards. Definitely a place to reserve in advance if you’re visiting Burlington, unless you’re ok with sitting down for dinner at 4:30 like me.
They have a seafood platter special before 5 o’clock, all of which was very good except for the calamari salad. The cheese and toast dish was great as was the carrots side.
one of the best dinners I've had. we just came from there and the service was fantastic. I loved the monkfish and hangar steak. only thing I would've done differently was order more dang oysters!
An amazing experience visually and gastronomically.. we made reservations before hand..
We had mushroom toast, and it was delicious although it was falling apart as we tried to cut it with a knife, maybe better eating as is (but had to share with my date).
The Parker house rolls were delightful but I didn’t find anything too special about them.
The hanger steak was just right and as ordered.. medium rare and it was nice and warm to the touch and taste.. it was slightly a bit more chewy than I prefer but to each their own.. I prefer meat that melts in your mouth.
The drinks 🍹 were boozey and citrusy.. which was my favorite part of the dinner.. our waiter was nice and recommended one of the drinks, Louisiana something...
I would recommend trying this place at least once or on a special occasion.. you wouldn’t be disappointed if your looking for a good gastronomic experience.
We had a private dinner in the "Butcher room". It was absolutely fantastic! I did not set it up, but it far exceeded my expectations. Every course was better than the last and the experience and the service were incredible. To me, this was high art food. We had Monkfish with hen of the woods mushrooms ( both cooked fabulously). The real star of that dish though was an acorn squash puree/sauce that just took the whole thing to the next level. Every single dish was like that. The whole affair was three + hours and every piece of food and its wine pairing was enthusiastically welcomed and immediately devoured. We didn't let a dish go back with more than a few drops of even sauce left.
The service was spectacular and we thought that they may have even gone to the length of cribbing the Spotify playlist of our friend who set it up.
We are from the north NJ area, so I am not familiar with local prices for this sort of thing, but I was surprised at how reasonable the price was at the end of the night.
I will absolutely do this again when back in Burlington.
I will drive hours to Burlington to have dinner here, any day. The cheese-based dishes and small plates are just phenomenal. Everybody - from the maitre d' to the bartender - pleases effortlessly. That includes Grace who guided us through the menu and explained the dishes patiently and accurately. Reservation is recommended and made through Resy. We didn't have reservation but they were kind to accommodate weary travelers. Thank you.
My husband and I were excited to finally have a date night and try this restaurant due to the good reviews. The service was fantastic. The drinks were also great. 5 stars for service and drinks. 1-2 stars for everything else.
The food was ok, not great , and as mentioned in other reviews, I would have expected more taste and/or quantity for the price. We got the oysters and I would agree with a previous review that several had shells and dirt inside. I was not impressed for the price of 4 dollars per oyster. My husband and I had the hanger steak which was cooked well, but lacking in flavor and for 48 dollars per meal, we expected more. The green beans were cooked well and I like the creamed corn, but we only got about 1 tsp of the corn.
Basically ok food that is super expensive for the quality/quantity with great service (230 dollars for both of us before tip)
I am glad that we went, but won't return due to the price.
We have very limited food options in the Burlington area and as a result, we have to pay a lot for ok food.
I am usually disappointed by the hype of of a spot like this, but Hen of the Wood was pure perfection. That's also accounting for a 2.5 hour drive for us and a ride home the next day in an ice storm From it's moody lightening, elegant, but comfortable setting and the food...the food is just so good. I feel so fortunate to have scored a reservation on my 40th bday (eek!) and we are already planning our next trip. Well done. Don't ever change <3
The food and experience here is top-notch. Unmatched against anything else for hours in any direction — well worth the price!
Went in just after 4.30 pm opening and ordered half dozen oysters and one large plate (duck). It’s 1.5 hours and I’m still waiting for the large plate. While I know I’m not at a fast food place this place is slow. I already waited about 30 mins just for the oysters - which of course did not require cooking. I’m afraid there is no way the duck - no matter how beautifully cooked - is going to make up for this. Looking at the other reviews I suspect the dish will arrive with about 5 pieces of artfully arranged meat. For $45 I’m starting to feel very annoyed.
Good experience, well cooked for hanger steak missing a little salt, but we'll rested, but sauce with the steak wasn't very good and neither the polenta. Polenta not included, you have to order the carbs separately making the price rise even more because you get only the meat and vegetables by default. Service was great tough. All in all, a bit overrated IMO but worth one try, maybe I was not lucky with my choices.
Excellent quality food. The best meal we have eaten in a long time! I'm looking forward to coming back another season and trying more of their cheeses
Worth the price tag. I got the duck and it was done perfectly. The cereal milk ice cream was better than Christina Tosi’s. Would recommend.
Best meal I've had. Service was impeccable.
We had an incredible dinner at Hen of the Wood. The food and drinks were all excellent and our server Sydney made the experience even better with great recommendations along the way. Looking forward to returning here for another meal.
Amazing atmosphere, food, and service. They did a great job social distancing everyone and making us feel safe. Our waitress was welcoming, provided suggestions, and was attentive. We started with a few cheeses and the parker house rolls, yum! Then we had the mushroom toast which my husband said was beyond delightful. Then we had the Ribeye with cabbage and polenta - which was so creamy and mouth watering - we ate the entire thing. We finished with the cheesecake which was the perfect ending to our meal. They offer a bunch of items to take home and enjoy including butter, cookies, etc. Great experience during these crazy times!
Fair warning, if you want a table for dinner, try to book it a week in advance. This place is very popular and has some fantastic and unique food options with most ingredients locally sourced. They also have a decent cocktail selection, plus some of the best craft beers in New England. If you're in the area and didn't book a table in advance, try to show up a bit earlier than the dinner rush and grab a seat at the bar.
Sat at the bar. Quality spirits list at very reasonable prices. Service was excellent, the bartender walked us through their menu and we did not feel rushed at all. Will definitely come back.
Impeccable cuisine, amazing cocktails and incredible professionals in this magnificent restaurant! Consistently perfect. The menu offers something for every taste and is perfectly tuned for each season. From appetizers to desert, the palette is delighted along the way. I only wish they’d open a location in Portland Maine! If you are alone it’s brilliant to sit at the kitchen bar to have the pleasure of observing the pristine chefs at work. If you’re curious about their process / methods they’re even cool enough to interact even when they’re super busy! Be sure to make a reservation you do not want to miss out on eating here if visiting!
Have been a big fan of Hen for years but a few lack luster appetizers and a uninterested server had our group feeling foolish. Pls do not plop a $17 tomato and $100 steak on the table and scurry away. I want to know the name of the cow. I want to know the pH of the soil from which the tomato grew. Jk lol but seriously I expect 10/10 from Hen and this was not that
Excellent service and amazing food quality. We sat facing the chefs and watched them cook over wood fueled grills. They engaged in conversation and were extremely friendly. Prices are a bit steep but well worth it.
The rabbit pate stole the show, if you have a chance to get it, do! We also loved the salad, it was surprisingly excellent. The main entrees and sides were okay, we didn't love the menu selection since we were hoping for duck or chicken but they didn't have any that night. Would go back again, ambiance and service were great too
My “go to” spot whenever I visit Burlington. This farm-to-table restaurant serves up the freshest ingredients. With the exception of some regular dishes, their menu changes day to day.
You must try the Mushroom Toast, and if ts on the menu both the Mezzalunas and Short Ribs were amazing! Chef was able to arrange me a half portion of the Broccoli entree — so glad I got it!
I would reco to sit at the open kitchen so you can watch all the action happen.
Run don’t walk to this amazing restaurant.
Rabbit leg & loin and a Hill Farmstead “George” to wash it down. An absolutely delicious dinner and drink. The staff were all very courteous, as was the manager. All around enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend this establishment if you are visiting Burlington.
The ambiance was perfect, the staff were so nice and professional. The quality was so good, but the portion size of large hanger steak was not not enough for. If you are hungry, do not rely of this place only 😉 …
Today was my 28th birthday and I decided to go back to hen of the woods because I took my brother there for his birthday in October and the experience was one of a kind Hands down one of Vermont best restaurants from the moment I walked in to the moment I left everything was perfection I tried the duck for the first time and omg🤤 my drink was called the unusual daiquiri and it was def unusual🥰 what I absolutely love about hen of the woods is that their menu change to compliment the season
Wow! My fiance and I recently visited for dinner and could not have been happier. Every single course of our meal was fantastic. Amazing cheese boards, very fresh swordfish and steak. Quality ingredients and food. When they say farm to table here, they mean it! Also do not skip dessert. The orange cake was the best cake we have ever eaten. If we are back in Burlington we will return here for sure. Five stars *****
Rating it based on ambience, quality of ingredients, and variety of culminating flavors. I didn’t care for my hangar steak, I had it done medium-rare and it was quite chewy, my friend also had his steak medium-rare but he said his was better than mine after trying it. The cheeses were really strong, but the accompanying sauces and crackers went will with it. This is quite a nice fine dining experience to have in the heart of Burlington. Would recommend it.
Some hits and some misses, but at $150 for 2 you'd expect more. 10 minutes for a server to even come over. Missing spirits menu. Could smell the dishwasher station from our end seat at the chef's counter. 2 of 6 oysters had shell in them. Parker house rolls weren't heated properly so they weren't entirely warm throughout. Halibut crudo wasn't fresh, didn't have enough acid, was cut too thick, and was chewy. Cheese plate and country pate were triumphs. Chocolate tart was epic, but the chocolate shard was so thick you couldn't break it. Had to fill up our own water.
TLDR the cooking and service have a long way to go to warrant the Michelin prices.
PS I would have been happy to provide this feedback live as a customer, but was not asked a single time for feedback on any of the dishes. I hope the restaurant does take a look at this because the halibut and oyster dishes were pretty unacceptable in my book.
My partner and I had the most amazing experience here. The entire staff was genuinely friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. Our server, Joseph D., was so knowledgeable and helped us pick an awesome selction of plates and cheeses. So many perfect bites! We will definitely be returning soon.
Fantastic staff, a buzzy but chill vibe. Recommend the cheese plate and amazing wine selections. Ask for the cocktail specials. Menu has nice salads and some creative small plates, as well as mains. Lots of people had the oysters.
I’m from Vermont and finally made it to this restaurant. I was so excited, but I have to say the prices are outrageous.
-No vegan options
-One vegetarian entree option, a piece of zucchini with a tomato and mushrooms on top for $28
Pros:
-Amazing service
-Swordfish is delicious
This place is really a masterpiece. The food is all incredible as well as the service. Mario took care of my husband and I last night and he was phenomenal, not only was he welcoming and attentive but he also really knew the food and was able to make great recommendations for us when we asked. He really knew the food and knew the restaurant and is proud of the establishment which really makes for amazing service. Thanks Mario! Thanks Hen of the Woods for amazing food!
Amazing food! Impossible to get a seat without reservation. That being said, the chef table is a great alternative as you can watch the chef in action, and decide for yourself what to order as you watch how the dishes are prepared. A little heavy on the salt though.
Amazing Farm to Table Restaurant. Great service and the ambiance is perfect. The food is on point and Chef Eric Warnstedt is doing great things
Warm, lively atmosphere, excellent service. I ordered a small plate, a large plate and a dessert. All 3 were very good, especially the Testa.
My wife and I dined here for her birthday. It was a memorable meal, and we plan to check out the Waterbury location. We loved everything we tried!
Went here with another couple for an anniversary dinner on a getaway weekend. We think we had the perfect meal. Service was above and beyond and the food was amazing. We started with Parker House rolls with honey butter and cracked pepper. Gem salad and Hen of the Woods mushroom toast. For our main we split the Monk Fish and Ribeye (the Monk Fish outshined the steak but only by a little. Each of the family style entrees comes with 2 sides so we got all four of the ones available, each one was delicious with the spaetzel being slightly less great. For desert we shared the chocolate cake and caramel pot de creme which were perfect endings for our great meal. Service was fast, efficient, and yet felt unrushed. It's not going to be a place we can afford to go to often but IS a place we'll be trying to get back to again some day.
Really delicious and well presented drinks and food. Warm environment with casting staff. Loved the duck with herbed spaetzle!
Awesome place. My favourite in Burlington. Great wine list. Delicious food and great service. Our reso was 15 mins late and they gave us a complimentary cheese plate. Highly recommend
Fantastic meal and service. Didn't have reservations but took our chance and were seated at chef's bar right next to Chef Eric. He was wonderful in giving us ideas for restaurants on the next leg of our trip to Montreal and Quebec City. Cheese were delicious as was the ham, cucumber salad, and potatoes.
One of the best restaurants in Burlington hands-down. Super authentic and unique experience. The atmosphere is casual but high end and every bite of food was incredible. GET the mushroom toast if it's on the menu when you go. You'll see it mentioned in tons of other reviews and that is for good reason. I'm a Burlington local and hadn't been before. When I say it's a totally different Burlington dining experience I truly mean it. Perfect for special occasions. Service was perfect. The timing of the food was great, almost to the minute.
TLDR; If you get the chance, GO! You will not regret it!
I don't think I've ever taken a picture of my food. But you better believe the menu items here are each one handcrafted with the best ingredients and well pared. We tried six or seven items between my wife and I to share as well as a wonderful bottle of wine. Every single dish was something after eating I almost considered ordering a second. It truly doesn't get better than this.
The food was incredible! Everything we ate was amazing, the cheese appetizers, the bread, hangar steak and swordfish was all delicious. Also the ambiance, if you don’t have a reservation the chefs table looked awesome as well as the bar area to enjoy food too.
Duck lack flavor and was a bit dry. Rest of food was delicious. I would definitely go back.
Dinner was gorgeously plated and cooked to perfection (we got the duck pastrami and pork loin). Our server was phenomenal (I can't recall her name, but she had dark hair and glasses, and we learned she was recently engaged). She helped us narrow down a bottle of wine, and we noticed her authentically engaging with each guest and making everyone's night very special. We loved the environment and can't wait to go back!
Great atmosphere and the waitstaff was phenomenal. Pricey but the food was delicious and a great wine, liquor and beer selection.
Loved the dollar Oyster hour with cocktails. Such a great idea and a lovely way to sample this Restaurant.
Such a cosy bar area with very friendly staff, didn't have time to sample the full menu but it looked good.
This place was packed and reservations 3 days out. We decided to give it a try anyway.
We were able to get seats at the service bar where we could watch them cooking on wood fire and prepping dishes.
Food and service excellent with well trained friendly staff
Delicious food, great service, only complaint is that they should have more of the menu items, which are limited to begin with available, asked for an entree and a couple beverages all of which were unavailable. Aside from that it was a good dining experience, albeit a bit on the pricey side.
My wife and I had two meals here, recently. This is the best restaurant around. It pains me to give it only 4 stars, but our second visit was subpar.
The food was excellent. The mushroom toast (with Hen of the Wood mushrooms) is perfection. Sautéed mushrooms served on toast with a poached egg and a slice of house-cured bacon.
Our second visit was at a busy 6:00. But there should never be a 30 minute wait between small plates and main. And if there is a wait, the first course plates need to be cleared away promptly.
I’ll give them another shot, but I hope this isn’t trend.
Managed to book a 9:30pm reservation here the night before we arrived in Burlington, which was a welcome surprise - when I'd tried to book weeks in advance, there was absolutely nothing available. And for good reason! Everything about our experience here was top notch.
The menu changes day to say, so I won't go into the specifics of each dish we ordered, but we shared the dinner rolls, some small plates, and a cheese board. I feel so lucky to have had the swordfish, served with a leek and corn cream sauce, because it was absolutely divine. My boyfriend ordered the hangar steak, and the flavors worked together wonderfully.
This is definitely worth a visit. Don't skip the Hen of the Wood if you're in Burlington.
Amazing!! Devine!! Second to none!! Covid-19 smart, very attentive, yet not obnoxious staff. Food was simply spectacular. So glad to have this place in VT.
Stopped by on a whim, really enjoyed the experience
Phenomenal meal, atmosphere, staff —everything!
Amazing local food with a menu that changes every day. Most of their ingredients are sourced from farms in the area, or at least Vermont, even in the winter. Very hygge ambience with candles and dim lighting. They have a really fun bar with open seating where you can watch the cooks perform their magic.
Chef's table was an amazing experience! Food was fantastic, and the drinks were the best I have had. Highly recommend.
Food was absolutely delicious.
The service was amazing.
Great plating great atmosphere.
Have been to HOTW Waterbury several times—Burlington is equally fabulous. Every item we ordered was exceptional, and our waiter was top notch.
Great place, great food, might be pricey, I feel it was worth it.
This restaurant has such a great reputation and I did expect to be impressed. The staff is exemplary and our waitress was just wonderful. She was right on with a wine choice. We tried the cucumber salad and mushroom toast for our starters. They were both delicious. For a main course I chose the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly and also delicious but I must say that the grilled kale that accompanied the steak was truly disappointing. Charred crisp on the edges and super tough and chewy where it wasn’t black char. Younger tender kale would have worked. Besides this is spring...asparagus season. I’d like to add that the music was some kind of shuffle mix that included some horrible noise that tainted the atmosphere. I will come back and try this restaurant again.
Our dinner was lovely.
The server (Star) was very pleasant, enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Highly recommended if you want to splurge on a very well put-together meal.
High quality place with great food and excellent service. We were not able to get a reservation ahead of time but the staff at the front were super helpful and got us on the waiting list with clear instructions so that we could get a drink down the street while we waited. Sat at the chefs counter and got to see the impressive food preparation and plating. The menu changes daily and sources local foods. A great experience and worth visiting
My favorite restaurant. It's been my second time, and it was even better than the first time. And the first time was perfect! Ready to make the route from Montreal anytime to come back!
We were in Burlington on vacation for a few days and this was by far the best meal we had. The restaurant is beautiful and I was overwhelmed by the menu options because they all sounded amazing. We ended up sharing some cheese and a few of the small plates. I can’t stop talking about how good the mushroom toast was! Service was great also.
Fantastic in every way. Probably he best restaurant in Burlington. Cant wait to go back
First time in Burlington for quite a few years, and couldn't be happier with our choice for dinner. Hands down one of the best meals we've had anywhere, and we travel and seek out new spots constantly. Very interesting flavor combinations, knowledgeable and helpful service, and perfect cocktails. We will make it back to Burlington soon if only to visit Hen of the Wood again!
Friendly staff, pretty interior but overpriced for Burlington. They have a problem serving food hot. We had multiple dishes (pasta, steak) that were only moderately warm. Hanger Steak is not an expensive cut of beef, so why $45? Extensive wine and drink menu.
Unbelievably delicious. I didn't take any pictures because I was too busy taking in the flavors of the roasted poussin and my Bee's Knees cocktail. We didn't want to leave such a cozy space so we ordered sorbets and amaro, which were the perfect touches. Great wine, cheese plate, and rolls too. The staff here is all so kind and professional. Literally everything about this place is perfect.
Great service, excellent food quality and preparation. Amazing atmosphere. A great place for a night out.
A phenomenal tour-de-force of exquisite cuisine sourced from local ingredients. I haven't had a better meal in quite some time! Excellent staff, good, decor, and attention to detail. If you can get a reservation, it's more than with your while!
It was hard to get a reservation at the restaurant so we sat at the bar, the service was awesome the Duck was amazing. The menu was interesting and the wine list is very good.
Top-notch service. Love that they change up the menu regularly and the selection really reflects the chef's creativity and culinary choices. Personally *loved* the scallops - what a thoughtful blend of texture and flavor! Calamari was a table favorite. Steak was satisfying though not as mind-blowing as the scallops and calamari.
Hen of the Wood is a lovely dining experience.
Emily, our server both times during our Vermont trip, is such a gem. She is personable, kind, generous, attentive and knowledgeable. To Hen of the Wood: Protect Emily at all costs - she's quite a value add for this establishment.
The food was fresh, creative, and intelligently put together. We love that it was all locally sourced. The chef is a genius and the kitchen staff executes exceptionally.
Thanks, Emily and Hen of the Wood team. We'll be back :)
One of the best meals I’ve had in such a long time. We had the duck and the rabbit and it was a flavor journey. I recommend all the desserts we had the cheesecake and mud pie and if you love desserts it’s a must need to. I also recommend a cheese platter. Had the mushroom toast and that was my least favorite, mushrooms didn’t steal the show. But everything else was great!!
This was the best dinner I’ve had in… maybe forever. Absolutely exquisite. Everything was perfect. Lovely ambience. Excellent service. And the food is indescribable.
Absolutely a must visit. If you can, it's worth it to sit at the chefs counter. The food is amazing. The place is amazing.
Much hype. Cocktails are Devine, 5 stars. The 3 stars is for Food which was good, but overpriced for portions, presentation, execution and taste. Fish done right is a testament to a great chef. Too dry edges on swordfish, plus uninspired cabbage showed chef not yet ready for next level. Visited Burlington for first time. Only had time to visit the two best restaurants. Bistro de Margot 5 stars drinks and food was clearly on the next level.
Amazing meal, amazing drinks, great ambience, friendly and accommodating staff.
Lamb sausage is their best dish. Wonderful place, great food, Very good service.
I have no words for how outstanding this place was. Environment. Staff. FOOD. Amazing. Everything was amazing.
PSA - WORTH THE WAIT!! If you don't have a reservation or can't get one, make your way to Hen of the Wood about an hour before you want to eat. Get yourself on the wait list and go next door to the Marriott or take a walk along the water. It is so worth the wait. My husband and I indulged in a cheese plate, hen of the wood toast, and the steak and pasta dishes. We even went back the next day to get some blueberry butter to-go. We sat at the bar and received very good recommendations from our waiter/bartender on wine and appetizers. Next time we are in town we will be dining here again.
Very very very interesting place to say the least. The appetizers were good. The squid was our favorite. Def worth the try if you’ve never been.
Best hangar steak I've ever had! Salt was on point, nice sear, butter-yes, melt-in-your-mouth. Started with the oysters and heirloom tomatoes, finished with Cabot cheddar and a scoop of honey basil ice cream.
Exquisite. Beautiful lighting. Classy venue. Food is majestically prepared. Menu was so interesting. Staff was diligent and beautiful. Amenities were just so right. I was very pleased and admired every moment. :)
I've been wanting to take my wife here for a very long time. The time finally came last Saturday night and while the food was good I just found it to be a bit underwhelming...We ordered the following dishes: Apps were mushroom toast and a braised beef pasta. Decent but not blown away. Pasta was tough and mushrooms too. Mains were sword fish, and hanger steak... without trying to be hyper critical here the polenta was not great and honestly the bleu cheese over dominated the taste of the steak. Fish was decent but this is Vermont so not expecting a catch of the day here. The Old Fashioned cocktails were best part of meal. Service was good but food was just meh - average...especially for the price.
Maybe we didn't order the "right" things? Maybe my expectations were too high? I used to enjoy their oyster bar hopefully they will bring that back sometime soon post pandemic.
The restaurant is beautiful and the food is superb. The only reason I am not leaving a 5 star review if because we had a very rude and pretentious waiter. I’d use his name but he never introduced himself. Short guy, skinny, with very short hair, and a tattoo sleeve. He was rude to my wife and myself. When you spend $240 for dinner for two one would think that the hospitality would be great but no, the owner should have a talk with him about creating a welcoming environment especially with how bad the industry has been affected by COVID.
I ordered take out as they were fully booked for reservations. I ordered the rabbit entree which was very pricey for what it's worth. The entree came with a few pieces of rabbit meat on top of pasta with cheese inside. Some of the pasta were hard and it seemed like they didn't heat it up all the way. It also made me question if the pasta were just premade and just heated up in the microwave? For the price that I paid (almost 40 dollars) for one dish, I was quite disappointed. The flavors were ok but it could have been better. I'm also aware that it was a take out and not dine in, hence I gave it a 3 star. I took a picture but I don't think it will even justify a 3 star so I chose to not post it. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. Try the other menu items, perhaps they may be better.
The meal was a solid 7/10. Ive certainly eaten better steak, but the entrees were quite tasty.
However, 10/10 for ambience and decor. Wood burning fire smells mix with freshly seared meat, and the decor gives a rustic, intimate feel.
Excellent spot for a date.
Expect to pay at least $60 per head with a drink, entree, tax and tip.
Book ahead of time! We were lucky enough to get a 5pm reservation on a Wednesday evening last minute by walking into the restaurant to ask. Mushroom toast is so good-locally foraged mushrooms! And had the Poisson (Cornish hen) which was cooked perfectly and sides were excellent
The ambience is great, the food is average yet pretentious.
Food is fab, and well done! Love the fact I can order small plates, allows us to sample different dishes. Like both the Waterbury location as well as downtown Burlington.
This place is amazing! This is the baby - ~4 years old - and the original in Waterbury is going on 13 Years.....I can see why. Let’s start with the ambiance. You walk in and immediately feel like you’re in an upscale joint that serves traditional dishes with a unique take on them. The kitchen is open so you can watch your meal as it is prepared. This spot does have a chefs counter which is pretty cool - I sat at a table with husband but really wish we opted for the chef’s table because I love to watch the chef (which is first come first serve).
The menu is small, but it works for a place like this. The options vary, covering all categories - meat, seafood, etc. The menu starts with appetizers, then small plates, entrees, and cheeses. Everything, I mean everything, is delicious. I would definitely go back if I lived in the area.
The wine list is extensive and the wait staff is very knowledgeable on their offerings. Speaking of the wait staff, everyone chips in to help out, if you’re low on wine...someone will come by to make sure your glass is always full. If you go to the ladies room, someone else might stop by to fold your napkin. You get the picture? Also, everyone is very nice, great customer service.
Definitely make a reservation if you’re coming here in a weekend!
This was, hands down, one of the best meals I've ever had. The Parker rolls were incredible, the steak was cooked to perfection (what is in the polenta that makes it so addictive!?), and the dessert has nearly ruined me for other desserts. Not to mention the spot on cocktails and the covid protocols helping guests feel safe. Not only is this a must go in the area, but I'd venture to say this is a destination restaurant you should make a trip for.
The restaurant was very crowded, and the food was delicious. We sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant but almost felt like we had a private booth. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and helped us work through the menu. We ordered cheeses, wine, Heady Topper beer, steak, pork tenderloin and rabbit. Everything was delicious and the pairings were excellent. We finished with homemade deserts and are planning to make another reservation during our next visit to Burlington.
A truly phenomenal dining experience tucked away in Burlington: locally-sourced ingredients find their way into every perfectly plated dish, wine and beer are top-notch, and service does not disappoint.
I still reminisce about the first time dining here. Two of us did not have a reservation, but were seated relatively quickly at the chef's table. What an experience; I'd highly recommend requesting to sit there. Being able to watch the food preparation is quite a treat; one can really admire their craft. Those cherry cola cocktails are delightful, and the farm-to-table cuisine is heavenly. I have since been back and had the same wonderful experience. I can't wait to go to their other location in Waterbury/Stowe.
As a native Vermonter I heard so many good things about this place and knew I had to make the trip. I lived in Boston for 10 years and now I’m down in Austin, TX. My wife and I have been to just about every major city in the US and tried all that they’ve had to offer.
This is still one of my Top 3 dining experiences to this day! From the drinks, to the food, to the ambiance, this place is the epitome of what makes Vermont special. I couldn’t recommend Hen of The Wood enough and I’m even surprised about any of the poor reviews. The service has been called in question in a few of the poor reviews, but rest assured that they all know their stuff and you won’t regret coming!
The next time I’m in Burlington, if I can get a reservation, this will be the first place I’m going.
Great charcuterie and plates. Good wine too.
Celebrated my Fiancé’s Birthday here, and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing! The Manager on duty Maggie was the best in the place. She made sure the night went smoothly including the candles on the dessert! Thank you for everything and we will definitely be back here soon!
Amazing as always! The food is incredible, our server Rachel was attentive and friendly (and she was so cute dancing to the background music), the ambiance is classy and warm! Can't recommend more!
Would absolutely recommend. Such a fun way to spend an evening. Delicious and filling food. I would suggest coming hungry and getting as many small plates and desserts as you can. They’re all incredibly delicious!!!
We really enjoyed Hen of the Wood. Ambiance was nice, staff was friendly And food expertly prepared. I appreciate a smaller menu where everything is cooked really well. Nice cocktails too. I would return. Highly recommend for fine dining.
This by far the best restaurant I have ever been to. Visited on NYE 2017 while on a ski trip in the blistering cold Vermont winter. We chose to wait 2.5 hours to be seating and waiting that long was worth every minute. We first tried a bunch of craft cocktails at the bar which were way ahead of their time. We were seating right in front of the chefs watching their every move. I sat there listening to the head chef instruct his “students” on what needed to be cooked up. I felt like I was watching Gordon Ramsey. It was amazing and I can’t wait to make my way back there.
This is a fantastic restaurant. The ambiance, the service, the health regulations, efficiency, the quality of the food, and of course, the taste. All excellent! I had the Parker house rolls, mushroom toast, sword fish. All delicious. Highly recommended!!
Absolutely heaven with the taste combinations. We drove up from New York to go skiing and a little homework paid off. This place is awesome. Fried rabbit was incredible as was the sweet potato agnolotti. The hen of the woods toast was unique and delicious. Rabbit liver pate was great too. I doubt they serve anything that would be mediocre. Definitely recommend.
We were lucky to get a table outside right when the restaurant opened & so happy we did! Amazing local food & great service. Stayed at Hotel Vermont and stumbled back to our room very satisfied.
Fantastic food, great service and amazing menu. Expensive, but worth it. Busy place so definitely make reservations.
This restaurant does not disappoint. It has a great vibe and all the staff is friendly. I have always enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the chefs do their work, or enjoying the heat of the open grill and brick oven. Its also a perfect spot to go for any special occasion.
Glad that we have such a great restaurant here in Burlington.
Can't help but over indulge when I go to Hen of the Wood. Their food is simply TOO GOOD. Service is always stellar and they make really good drinks. We always splurge on Hen of the Wood when we are in Burlington because it is worth it every time! Loved that they now have a "Hen at Home" menu for taking favorites to go. We took the sea salt maple crackers to make a cheese board at home (or more realistically ferociously eat the next day because they are so good).
Insanely good service and attention to detail. Sitting at the kitchen counter highly recommend. Wife went to culinary school, she was equally blown away.
Very nice ambiance, food, and service! Highly recommend their lamb tartare, mushroom toast, swordfish, and (my personal favorite) short rib pappardelle. The best pasta I’ve had on the east coast. Also love their blondie dessert. For drinks highly recommend their maple Manhattan if you like whiskey.
We visited Burlington. This was pur first meal. The swordfish was to die for. The calamari was delicious as was the angel food cake. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, decor, service. I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of the very best restaurants in VT. Our server was exceptional. Having an immense amount of knowledge of the menu items, she proceeded to answer question after question we threw at her, at one point describing a half dozen or so local mushrooms including where to find them, what they look and taste like. Everyone's food was fantastic and the chocolate cake was easily one of the best desserts I can remember having. It really was that good!
Amazing local food, unbelievable service & cool atmosphere- this restaurant is an all time favorite, not just in VT. Highly recommend the mushroom toast and the cookie dough to go.
Found wait staff to be self-centered, unwelcoming. My girlfriend and I would have appreciated a more guest centered approach.
Sat for a 9pm reservation, was immediately told to order before kitchen closed. The whole staff seemed very focused on leaving. Sat facing kitchen, saw server with backpack ready to leave, put backpack down, act bothered, before picking up and serving food.
For the price point, I thought the guest experience could be greatly improved upon.
I am a google local guide and a local lover of all things Burlington. And I don't take food lightly as its one of the best parts of this amazing little city.
Hotel Vermont could not have done a better job on this restaurant! Located right below the towers of Hotel Vermont suites, this Five-star, multi-cuisine eatery boasts amazing customer service and even better food if your willing to endour the steep wait time due to all the tourists and locals from the hotel! A perfect location, where its possible to look out the window out onto the beautiful Lake Champlain, and see the waterfront! The possibilitys here for a romantic dinner are through the roof and would highly recommend taking your S/O out here as its sure to impress. Pricey, although it more than pays itself off after youve finished off their excellent entrees and perfectly-sized appetizers
We had a very good culinary experience there. The meat was well cooked, every plate was balanced, the fish was perfect (caramelized on top but fluffy and still juicy inside), the roasted potatoes were out of this world, the grilled cabage with house bacon was heaven... Everything was excellent. We'll definitely go there again on another occasion.
I had been trying to get a meal here for a long time but my girlfriend finally took me here for the first time last weekend. It was my birthday gift, and it was much better than I expected.
The crispy short rib was to die for. The drinks were excellent. Rabbit and Cauliflower were the best I've ever had. The hostess and server were both incredibly professional and great at what they do. This was the most impressive dining experience I've had in the whole area and it was well worth the time in advance you have to place a reservation.
Fabulous dinner. Wonderful bartender. We had a great conservation.
My husband and I went to Hen of the Wood for our anniversary this year and we had such a delicious dinner!! The food is so creative and satisfying. Even something as seemingly simple as a side of cabbage was extraordinary!! The cherry on top was the friendly and overall excellent service. Thank you so much for making our night!
Probably the best and most consistent restaurant in Burlington. Definitely my top pick for a special occasion. $1 oysters often daily, check with the restaurant to be sure of the times. Great cocktails, beer, and wine selection. Reservations recommend during peak hours, though you can often squeeze in at the bar or cook counter. Sitting at the cooking counter is fun, you get to check out their flow. Nice atmosphere, mood lighting, and attentive staff. A bit pricey, but no more than any city and only a bit more than lesser places in Burlington. Menu changes often and is based on seasonal availability. This is the only "nice" place I've returned to more than twice in Burlington, because of the consistency in quality and service.
This place is fine, not great. After hearing everyone rave about it we made a reservation for my wife's birthday. The food was ok (the menu changes frequently so our dishes may not be available); I mean, the food was good, but there was nothing special about it. The desserts, though, were mediocre--my wife's basically tasted like Jello butterscotch pudding with some salty nuts in it. And the service needed work. Our waitress was very good, but the timing between the courses was really off and our sides didn't come out with our entrees; when they did, a surly hipster kind of just dropped them at our table. Little stuff, but at this level you expect better.
We had dinner at the chefs bar this evening and whoa. Not only was the entertainment of watching the chefs meticulously prepare each meal fantastic, the service and food were out of this world. Ari was our server and he was next level. He maintained the perfect balance of attentiveness, but gave us plenty of space to enjoy our meal. He also had a sixth sense and detected that we weren’t thrilled with our dessert choice (which was good, just didn’t knock our socks off- but we didn’t mention this). Somehow he read our minds, and appeared with an additional little dessert to ensure that our final bites at hen of the wood ended on a high note. It doesn’t get better than that. Highly recommend if you’re in Burlington!
If I could I would give ten stars. Great atmosphere, very professional staff and very welcoming. I am a vegetarian, and the chef prepared a delicious pasta dish for me. My companions raved about the beef and the oyster appetizer. Everything is very fresh. Go there and you won't regret it!!
I’m kicking myself for not taking a picture of our mouthwatering appetizers and entrées. We got the parker house rolls, cheese plate and shared the 17 ounce ribeye special. The food was so delicious! The amazing meal was enhanced by the romantic, cozy atmosphere and excellent service. The best food in Burlington! We would definitely come back again.
Short stay in Burlington, visiting from NY. My BF made reservations 1 week in advance and it was oh so worth it. Every single dish we experienced was amazing. The combination of flavors is almost mathematically calculated lol. All ingredients complement each other in a very whimsical manner. Highly, highly recommended. BOOK IN ADVANCE!
Wow. Never had swordfish this tasty! All the food we shared with my friend was to die for. Ultra recommended.
I have been to the Hen of the Wood 5 times now. Really nice food but you need to be a bit adventurous if you really want to get the cooking theme.
First of the location for most people is perfect, it is less than a block to 2 blocks from all the better hotels. Right next to my 2 favorite.
Secondly the food here is cooked to perfection every time I have gone. There can be some strange sounding food like rabbit and other wild game but I really suggest you step out of your comfort zone and have some, it will be good, trust me.
Third, the place is cozy warm and inviting but a bit dim, not worth a star removal. Not cheap, but not crazy expensive.
Give it a try, I bet you will want to go back every time you are in Burlington.
Farm to table concept with deliciously crafted menu. They make great use of their fire grill and pay incredible attention to detail when preparing each meal. Of course everything we had was exquisite. My favorite dining experience in Burlington.
This our second visit to Burlington-- the reason we came back? Hen of the Wood. The food, atmosphere, service, and cocktails are the best we have ever had and we needed to experience it again. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating to my food allergies. We love the open kitchen as well as the windows into the meat rooms- you know that what your getting is fresh and tailored to your taste buds. We can't wait to make the trip back to Vermont, Burlington, and Hen of the Wood!
Amazing experience! I'm a Sous Chef and appreciate that our server had extensive menu knowledge as well as being very proficient and intuitive! The duck was the best I have ever had, along with the mushroom toast. Will definitely be going back!
I've been here several times over the past two years and while the service is always good, the food is hit or miss. The rolls and desert are generally excellent but the small plates tend not to change much and sometimes straight up taste bad - too salty, not enough flavor, etc. The large plates have been good when I've tried them but frequently I look at the menu and don't see anything appetizing. Hen of the Wood isn't a bad restaurant by any means but I expect more than just "ok" when paying this much for food. I would recommend eating dinner elsewhere and only coming here to order appetizers or dessert at the bar.
Excellent! Vibrant atmosphere, and delicious food. Service was thoughtful without being overly solicitous. Prices were on the high end, but absolutely worthwhile. A busy place, but quiet enough for intimate conversation. Seasonal daily menu dependent upon availability of local products. Though current menu has a lot of meat, my vegetarianism was more than adequately accommodated. Plenty of parking in city lot across the street (fee). Reservation definitely recommended.
During recent trip to Burlington my BF, friends and I wanted to try the restaurant that Yelp and other sites raved about... And just to let everyone know- they didn't lie. The food was amazing, not only was it well prepared and presented but everything was so fresh and perfect. We order the oysters and a bunch of cheeses for an appetizer. Then we each ordered something different and shared. The cocktail were amazing! This place is def worth the money.
Excellent! Great service and fantastic local food. Come after 830pm to avoid the crowds.
Just not sure what all the hype is about. Food was good but not 5 star. Service and vibe was a bit too trendy for my personal taste, but obviously suits many others. To each their own.
Crowded but attractive dining room. We had to speak in hushed tones to keep from being heard while conversing at our table and couldn't help but hear the conversations around us. I go to a bar if I want that atmosphere, not an expensive restaurant. I'm on a date with my girl, not the 5 guys next to us.
Just 'meh' after the expectations were set so high. Sorry.
This might be the best restaurant in Burlington, if not all Vermont. The best seat in the house is at the counter next to the open kitchen, where you can watch the chef and cooks at work. The menu is seasonal and changes regularly (if not daily- the menu always has the day's date stamped on it). Anything you order will be precisely prepared and delicious, so just order according to your mood that day. Their signature dish - hen-of-the wood mushrooms with bacon and egg on toast - always is a good start.
Always on point with their menu. We had apps, cocktails, wine, main courses and desserts and it was all so fresh and you're full without that yucky full feeling. Steak was cooked perfectly and service was wonderful.
We've gone twice and both times we received a wrong order (sent back the wrong meal for two the first time, the next time accepted the wrong dish for one so as not to wait). Service is otherwise excellent, nice wine list, and for the most part what we have been served has been quite tasty. I just can't help but be a bit disappointed by the repeat experience of not getting what we ordered.
Service was great. Drinks were great. However, I was not as wowed by the food as I hoped. The rolls and signature toast were yummy. Kale was good. The steak was ok... Not a wow. We really love 15 Church in Saratoga and compare all good meals to them. Same price but nowhere near 15 Church caliber. There are a lot of choices in Burlington and we really don't think this was worth the price.
Service was perfect! Food was amazing as well. Great cheese selection. The mushroom toast is a must! Enjoyed the braised pork shoulder even though they ran out of rabbit sausage. Oh well, excuse to go back on our next trip to town.
Crowded, very expensive, delicious, nice and cozy place. servants are warm and friendly and polite. need to make reservation before attending or you may wait for a long time especially at weekends. I ate steak and rabbit there as well as muscles. all three were really tasty and delicious. especially the cheese that was used along side of the steak was a perfect combination
Spent our one year anniversary here. This place checks off a lot of thumbs up boxes.. food, drinks, service, and care. We didn't get the most ideal table but a) not the end of the world b) service n mgmt were very understanding and receptive. We had a great time and ate a great meal. Can't really ask for more than that.
Excellent, best in Vermont! Fresh, tasty, and beautiful presentation.
Best secret in town are their buck a shuck oysters from 4 to 5 and 10 to 11 accompnied by something from their bar or wine list. They have an ever changing menu and their dining room has a great ambiance. It is not a place to go with a low budget. it is expensive but memorable for a special occasion.
This place would fit right in as a great restaurant in Tribeca. Great ambiance, service was good, the service kitchen is right in the dining room, so it's a show and great food. I'm a tough judge of duck breast, and the one here was very good.
Every item we ordered was delicious. Since items change daily, each visit is a unique experience. We are still talking about our last visit days later and will be back our next time in Burlington. Make sure to look ahead to book a reservation at this popular venue as the space can fill up. We we're able to score a 9pm on a Tuesday night when we booked a day ahead.
This place is off the beaten Church Street path, and you probably would walk right past it. Don't. It is really one of the best restaurants you'll find in Burlington. Farm to table with a great menu that can accommodate pretty much any diner. The bread...oh brother...the bread. Steak was as good as anywhere. And get the hen of the wood.
One of the most amazing chefs in the US! Superior consistency with all of the courses, Oysters were tender and fresh, grilled octopus was superb, we had the pork, hanger steak and rabbit entries -- all of them knocked it out of the park! excellent service too.
This place is very popular. The food and service was excellent. If you are staying a the Vermont Hotel it is w 1 minute walk, right next door.
Farm to table delivery ❤️. Love the ethical aspect of the restaurant
Hen of the Wood never disappoints. Oyster hour is a must but if you have the opportunity to explore the menu, do so. The grilled octopus is out of this world. Enjoy observing the chefs cook in a open concept kitchen, intimate lighting and mood, large selection of handcrafted cocktails and superior ingredients. It is no wonder this upscale restaurant is home to Vermont's Seven Days voted best chef in the state.
The quality and innovation has slipped, but the prices remain very high. Had the NY strip, which was good, not great. For $90 I wanted great.
Maybe one of the best restaurant in the North Eastern American continent. It's that good !
Rabbit Liver Pate was quite good. The atmosphere was nice. Enjoyed sitting at the bar. Plan ahead if you want to dine during busy hours because they will be busy. Can't wait to try the braised rabbit and several other dishes.
Great atmosphere and location. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
One of the best dining experiences of my life. Unique foods, not overplayed. Service, atmosphere, and food were on point. Very busy - reservations required well in advance. Even bar seats are managed by host.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time. We couldnt get a reservation so we took the advise of a prior post and we're able to get a bar seating, it actually felt like we had more room than some of the folks at the small table behind us. The service was spot on, lots of good recommendations. You have to give it a try.
There were not any reservations available, but we were able to walk in and get a seat at the bar. The food was amazing and the service was great. I highly recommend!
My girlfriend and I had the best dinner here. The hangar steak and duck were amazing. Beets, cheese, rolls, and cocktails also fantastic.
It's rare that every single thing you order turns out to be absolutely fantastic, but this place nailed it. Wonderful atmosphere - packed without being loud or stressful, in our experience awesome and friendly staff, and some of the best duck I've ever had. My fiancé and I were just visiting Burlington briefly, but will be sure to eat here when we visit again!
Hands down best restaurant in Burlington. Wonderful server, food, drinks, and atmosphere.
I go here for the Oyster happy hour or for an elegant dinner out. It is easy to look at the menu and go "What! 14$ for roasted cauliflower!" and then you get it and think " Oh, now I get it" Easily in the top 5 places to eat in Burlington. I'm sure it is many peoples number one.
wow fantastic meal ... ask for the seats at the kitchen bartop
Great place for a date or for your better half. Charming interior with lots of wood, candles & soft lighting make it fell very cozy & upscale in downtown Burlington, NY.
I had the "small" cucumber dish & the "large" Hanger Steak. The cucumber is not on the menu anymore so the small dishes must change frequently but it was really good with a sweet honey & sour mix. The Hanger Steak was delicious but it was a tad rare for the requested medium. Still it was very good and the sauce that was included was superp along with the salted new potatoes and grilled asparagus.
I would be very curious about the Duck Breast for two but I was alone on business travel.
The Hen of the Wood is definately a place to impress so dress in nice casual wear and bring your best snifting nose because they seem to have some remarkable wines.
Pricing was a little high for the value so thats why it only got 4 stars. Other than that I would return with my love for a casual, quiet dinner for two. One other thing, make reservations or you both will wind up at the bar!
This is one of the most expensive places I have ever been to in my life. The food was awesome. The hen of the wood toast was to die for. I would actually say that the appetizers are better than the entries. The food was fresh and well made. There are lots of drink options too. I would come back again if I am ever in Vermont again. Just be prepared to pay a lot of money.
Pricey, but delicious! Worth it for a local experience.
Hen of the Wood is very pricy, and the portions are somewhat small. But if you have the budget, it is a MUST! The service is incredible, the food is out of this world and the general atmosphere is great. The wine selection is impressive and the changing menu makes it a must-go place.
If you have not been to visit...Definately give this place a go! AWESOME staff, great ATMOSPHERE, DELICIOUS food. Winning combination. Just the place to create a fun times and pleasant memories.
Wonderful dining experience. Service and food were perfect. Got a last minute opening on our last day of vacation through resy and jumped on it. So glad we got in.
Terrific menu. Great service. I was surprised at how well their food travels for take out - don’t skip dining here during the pandemic as you can get all your favorites to go.
Easily, the best place to eat in Burlington. We go once a month and have never been disappointed.
Great service. Braised rabbit dish and sorbet dessert were delicious 👍 …
Have been to here a few times now and always left happy! My guilty pleasure is the mushroom toast which seems crazy expensive for one piece of toast but I can't help getting it every time and it is delicious. Service has been consistently good even though the place is usually packed and I haven't ordered a bad dish. The only downside is how busy this place is so def reserve in advance.
Always exceeds expectation. Just wish I lived a wee bit closer so I could go more often
I moved up to Vermont five years ago and hen of the woods is our go to for fine dining. Everything is incredible and the cheese spread is great. Expect to pay a fair amount for the incredible food you will get.
This is our favorite Resturant in Vermont. We end up there quite often sitting at the bar from 4-5 having amazing cocktails and oysters then moving to the main event at the food / kitchen counter watching the magic happen. We are so grateful for the chefs attention to beautiful fresh cuisine . It's a must GO!
We came here on our honeymoon to celebrate and loved it. Food and service was great. Best meal out of the 5 we've had in Burlington so far...and the priciest. One major tip: make sure to get a reservation a few days in advance because this place gets full!
Food was AWESOME! Enviornment was perfect for a date with my wife and the service was very attentive. I won't complain about the price because I knew what we were getting into. It's definitely not an Applebees so expect to pay more. Well worth the $$$.
The food was amazing, although an appetizer that was only 2 slices of cheese $8? That's the only thing I would advise against, otherwise the squid was succulent, the rabbit brisket so tender and delicious, the hanger steak better than any filet mignons I've ever had and the staff very helpful and friendly
Super cozy and the bar chairs are very comfy
When we come to Vermont to visit family, this is our special treat. This time we sat of the counter and watch the plates being expedited, in the food being prepared, and it was an amazing experience. The wait staff is wonderful the food is out of this world
Awesome we had a training server with a seasoned server. All the staff was very good. Great team work. Celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. The card was a great touch. Thank you. Highly recommend.
Despite good service and a very cool decor, this pretentious, expensive restaurant completely missed the mark for our group of five. We left frustrated and hungry despite spending nearly $300.
This is one of two locations and is helmed by famed chef Eric Warnstedt, a James Beard nominee who's concept is to try and reduce the gap between your plate and mother nature. The restaurant's decor is very unique and is a combination of modern and rustic, with wood accents and modern lines. We felt very comfortable but found it too dark. We could barely read the menu.
Our friendly waitress brought us some menus, some waters and after telling us a bit about the menu, gave us a few minutes to soak it all in.
In the menu itself are both 'small' and 'large' appetizers as well as bar bites. These tiny morsels of food known as the 'small' will jack up your bill anywhere between $5-$15 and are designed to be shared. We were strongly advised to get a few of them, and obliged accordingly. We got a few of their panisses fries as well as wood fired bread ($7) and another side of some grilled vegetables as well. The bread while overpriced was pretty good and baked in their wood oven. The panisses frites were good and the vegetables were really good as well but the price to value ratio was slightly off. The portions were somewhat smaller than we had anticipated.
Then our entrees came a few minutes later. I ordered their hanger steak medium rare ($29) which came platted with some roasted onions and beets as well as some Bayley Hazen blue cheese. It was pretty tasty but again, the portions were small. The steak was slightly over, but the vegetables tasted awesome and the chefs made great use of their fancy wood oven. The flavors were bright and everything was very fresh.
That being said, all five of us were unanimous. The place felt pretentious and was too expensive. We also left hungry which is pretty sad after we dropped that kind of money on a dinner. Now I'm not saying the place isn't good, it is, but it's a special night-only kind of place, not the kind of place you'd want to hang out at too often for the sake of your wallet. I'd happily return to sit at the bar and have a beer or two, or a cocktail with a couple of bar bites, but the full dinner treatment is just too unaffordable. and frankly not worth it.
Delicious food and amazing ambiance. We sat at the bar since we didn’t have a reservation and it was perfect.
My adult children and I went for appetizers and cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised that the serve a french Rose' year round. The appetizers were great, would highly recommend the Pate'. My kids ordered different types of cocktails and loved them.....
Cozy atmosphere. Amazing food. Very personable wait staff that seemed to enjoy their jobs. Two thumbs up.
Wonderful restaurant! We enjoyed small plates of deliciousness whilst seated in front of the chefs. Excellent dinner with a “show”. Outstanding in every way.
Exceptional restaurant. Industrial/craftsman/modern interior, creative and meticulously prepared food and engaged staff. Sit at the chef’s counter if you can. The kitchen is very well-appointed and bustling—fun to watch! Be sure to try the steak tartare with puréed oyster aioli.
Great dining experience.
The best meal we had in Burlington! So, so worth the price. The food and drinks were delicious, the service was wonderful, and the ambiance was just perfect! I suggest getting a bunch of items to share.
Yum! I always eat until I can't breath! Having said that it's a little hard to entice my non hard core foody friends to come because most things on the menu are somewhat esoteric or a little fussy. They are very happy to accommodate their guests though.
One of the best restaurants I've been too. Their steak was amazing and really blew us away. Awesome service and patient staff. Great atmosphere, would recommend everyone tries it!
The menu is simple and delicious and the restaurant itself is cozy and welcoming. Love everything about it!
Top 3 best dinners I've ever had in Vermont. Possibly the best. Get there early or late for oyster specials. Also check out the butcher room on the way to the bathrooms.
Very nice atmosphere and good food. We sat at the chefs table where we watched them prepare our meal. Our server was Ari and he was great, he appeared when needed and was very attentive.
This place has a whipped, cultured butter that is more complex than entire meals I've had. Similar to Lazy Bear's of SF. Ridiculously good execution of Parker House rolls, salad, and entrées. Delightful staff. Really imaginative drinks.
Uneven food. Some dishes were superb. Others were ruined by in-artful excessive application of lemon juice that simply ruined the dish. This happened more than once.
Pricey, charging close to NYC prices but food not as good. Overhyped.
Very good food and great service. You may need reservations. We sat at the bar. It could have used a bit more lighting, but that's just being picky. Great place.
Phenomenal all around. Great food, from apps to raw bar to mains and dessert. Service is exceptional, and the attention to detail is obvious everywhere. We will be back.
Stopped in here for oysters at happy hour. Dug the set-up, staff was super helpful and friendly! Stood outside for a while waiting for them to open on one of the coldest days of the year but it was worth it!
One if the best restaurants in VT hands down. Hen if the wood toast is amazing! Great wine selection and great cocktails. Decor is very warm and inviting.
Hen of the Wood has a great atmosphere (you don't need to be shout to be heard, even when it's packed) and drink selection; and $1 oysters @4:00. The two reasons I took off a star is because their food menu is quite small and their portions for their main courses are a bit small for the price. I'd go more frequently if they had more than 4 main courses (2 of which seem to be on all year with slight variation).
An intimate setting that looks like like a ski chalet. A large bar on one side offers casual dining with seating throughout the rest of the venue.
A selection of small and large plates including local cheeses and farm to table produce.
I was really hesitant to eat here because I’m a vegan and the menu is pretty meat and cheese heavy. But, I found an amazing dish. The wine was good and the food was amazing.
The food was delicious and the staff was great. The mushroom toast is a must try. I would strongly recommend going here for the experience.
I normally make reservations but ended up at Hen of the Wood Burlington last minute and grabbed a seat at the bar. Full menu and great service by the bartender and bar back. The food is great but it’s the service that has me coming back.
One of our gems in Burlington. Great service and food every single time. Best mixologists in town. The Parker House Rolls are awesome, but the butter that comes with them is even better.
Had dinner tonight at bar at the Burlington location, which just reopened 3 weeks ago and had an amazing night! Sidney at the bar was amazing bartender and waitress! Will Definetly be back and look forward to trying more of the menu!
We sat at the chef table, and it was an awesome experience. Cozy and comfortable. The chef is friendly. Food is delicious. Don’t miss the dessert
Fried, creamed or sweet element in majority of their menu offering. Ordered 3 appetizers and 2 sides with the main course. Overdressed and overly sweet salad. Ordered halibut that was hard and crunchy on one side. Was looking forward to roasted broccolini and swiss chard - received less then one spear of briccolini and 3 pieces of swiss chard - unremarkable
Only did the apps at the bar. Since they change so often it if hard to review, but the carrots were great, loved the toast, and the pate. I would not do the rabbit croquettes again, to much mustard.
Amazing put together dishes that were not only appealing to the eye but the pallette as well. The service is amazing and makes you feel very special.
Highly recommended.
Very good service, food was excellent as well. Nicely done wine list. Glasses were always kept full, and Matthew was on top of his game. Great cheese selection also.
Always fresh, local, and delicious ingredients made on a wood fired grill right in front of the dining room. It's performance art for your belly. Nick and Jordan run this place like a well oiled machine.
We had an excellent experience. The waitress, I wish I knew her name, was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food is unique, creative and absolutely delicious!
Service was great. Food was good but not the high quality I expected.
Had a good time there with friends. Good food. Good drinks. Good service.
You’ll have to make a reservation like six months in advance (for a Tuesday night probably, lol....ok maybe a little exaggeration), but it’s 100% worth it. Hen of the Wood is truly the flagship restaurant for the entire state of Vermont.
great experience. ive been meaning to go back and sit at the chefs bar to get the full experience of the food being prepared. the local menu that changes seasonally is never a disappointment.
Excellent dining. Service was spectacular and the food was tasty. We will return next time we are in Vermont. Price is high, but expected at a fine dining establishment.
Delicious food, attentive waitstaff, mindful respect of allergy concerns, and a lovely atmosphere that radiates romance and luxury. This is where you go to celebrate momentous events. Don't miss it!
Sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening. Staff was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu, would highly recommend to anyone looking for a upscale dining experience in Burlington
Last minute decision for appetizers before a meeting. The service was superb, the food was delicious. Will go again when have time to relax and enjoy.
Literally one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Great bartenders food is always amazing and drink selection is fun and different. Never been disappointed...
Never had a bad experience here. Great offerings and fantastic service. There's a reason why Hen of the Wood is considered to be one of the best restaurants in Vermont.
The best restaurant we've been in the USA. The service was good and the food amazing. Everything was perfect: cocktails, oysters, the meat and even the desserts
$1 delicious oysters. Great friendly and engaging service. Very nice Happy Hour vibes. I'll definitely be back.
The best restaurant anywhere. The food is absolutely amazing and the service is top notch. The bar makes exelent drinks, the wine list is also very good.
A truly Spectacular dining experience!
From start to finish, everything was delicious! Oysters, Hanger Steak, Monkfish! Ummmm! Great service! All around just a lovely dinner.
Amazing place drove from Boston two times worth the trip. For the best experience sit in front of the oven next to the chef. Just incredible.
Absolutely amazing! Worth the drive from just about anywhere, and if you're in Vermont... Make it here for dinner! The cheese program is especially excellent.
Awesomt food, menu changes constantly, which is great. Good wine, and cheese. The place is really nice too. Make a reservation and visit if you are in Burlington
Some of the best drinks in Burlington as well as the best food. I like to sit at the bar during 1$ oysters and sip on citrus gimlets. Food here never disappoints.
Spot on perfect food and service. Although pricey, it totally feels worth every cent. Server was great about being gluten free which I really appreciated.
If you want to go to to top notch restaurant with great food, ambiance and the friendliest staff in town, this is your spot. Be sure to make a reservation, you will need it to get into this gem.
This review is solely based on their $1 oysters at 4-5pm and 10-11pm every night.
Had the skate, hen of the wood toast, hangar steak, and duck. All freaking amazing. Ate outside in 50° weather but still worth it.
This is my favorite restaurant I've ever been to! The food, service, and ambiance were all truly exceptional. Well worth the wait and price.
Amazing restaurant! Try the rabbit
We had a wonderful dinner at Hen of the Wood this evening. The caliber of the service was exceptional, particularly that of our server Maggie.
Some of the most memorable mushrooms I have ever eaten. Whether you like or do not like mushrooms, you can rediscover what muishrooms should taste like.
Best restaurant in Burlington- make sure your reserve many weeks in advance - the bar section is also very hip and good too! Service is amazing .
The Hanger Steak was the best steak of my life! Also try the triple cheese, its phenomenal!
Delicious food and great service! Loved the seasonal menu. Make sure to get the ice cream too!
Amazing food. Did not disappoint. Great service, nice ambiance. They did not miss on a single dish and we tried several
Delicious food, great atmosphere & Chris the bartender was great at his job! We had the best date night out...Highly recommended!
Then of the Woods offers a trifecta of great food, well crafted cocktails, and welcoming service. Don’t miss it if you visit Burlington, VT.
Hard to get table, but I can understand why. The place is beautiful, the food is delish and the service is immaculate. Keep up the good work!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Expensive but absolutely worth it. Also, they do an oyster happy hour from 4 to 5 that is awesome.
Best steak I've ever had.
Very pricey though, and you will most likely have to make a reservation to get a table.
Loved everything about this place. Food was great. I give it 4 stars because the wine by the glass was served at room temperature
Good food restaurant in downtown. Service was fast and friendly.
This is my go to fine restaurant in Vermont. There are other good places, but not as consistent and with such attention to detail. The decor is interesting without being garish.
Place is amazing and our server Grace was great
Good quality but very expensive
One of the best restaurant in the area. Very nice atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Food was amazingly delicious. Strongly recommended.
Having dinner with family and friends. Never disappointed with the excellent service and tasty food. Heaven isn't any better than this menu.
Best ever ...all of it!
Never been happier...
We had an amazing meal together at the bar last night and so enjoyed the food, and excellent and knowledgeable server/bartender Jackson who made our evening and meal delightful!
First time there and it was very good. Food was good and the service was excellent.
Made a dinner for two of about six of the small plates. Loved everything. Great wine selection.
Fantastic locally sourced food and drink.
The food was good. Staff very friendly and attentive especially our server, Daniel. Had a very special experience.
What the heck is locavore? Ok, just looked it up. Are we really at the point of inventing words to impress other people about how we eat? Is this like a superiority thing? I wish for a world where people are not judged- not looked down upon- for what they eat. #myfoodtoo.
Food was excellent. Atmosphere was excellent. Would give 5 starts if the tables were not so close together.
Very good food, nicely prepared, good service, excellent cocktails, my only complaint was portion size, two table spoons of a vegetable is not a side dish
Ridiculously phenomenal on every level. Sit at the bar and talk to Matthew. You'd be hard pressed to find a better combination of food, ambiance and service in this country.
Great Food! Fairly limited menu, but everything we tried was fresh and cooked to perfection.
Unstoppable. This place has redefined fine dining for us. The quality is incredible, the attention to detail is second to none. I can't recommend it enough
Fabulous food. Inventive menu. Fresh local food. Great service. Best restaurant in Vermont.
Our favorite spot in Burlington, and maybe our favorite restaurant anywhere. A trip to Burlington without going to Hen of the Wood is a trip wasted.
Food, drinks and atmosphere were all outstanding.
Hard to find, had to ask the hotel where the door was lol, but well worth it food is excellent happy hour on oysters made my day, next visit to Vermont ill be there.
Nice food and vibe. Great cocktail
Fantastic experience! One of the best restaurants in Burlington. Highly recommend if you're in the area.
Always friendly staff, great food and drinks. Usually requires a reservation. The atmosphere is quiet, mellow and great for dates.
Delicious food and service was great
A great food experience from service, presentation and taste/quality. Not inexpensive but high value. Intimate setting yet lively.
Great staff and dinning room. Willing to explain the menu since it changes due to the items that come into the restaurant.
Super cosy vibes, delicious farm-to-table menu, local drinks on offer and great service. A do not miss!
Fresh, seasonal, and delicious. Thank you for squeezing me in late on a Monday and the warm and genuine hospitality from host to server.
Absolutely amazing. Early bird oyster special. Fantastic bar. Stellar service. Love this place.
Top notch food, service and atmosphere. Beautiful design. A great experience, highly recommend!
Best food in Vermont, incredible cocktails, great kitchen to watch, all the food is amazing, try the mushroom toast for starters
Both Waterbury and Burlington restaurants are amazing. Best in Vermont for eclectic, creative menus for special occasions.
One of best overall dining experiences I've had anywhere. Food, drinks and service were fantastic!
Wonderful service, unique and fresh food, and great ambiance. Do yourself a favor and order the sweet corn ice cream!
Dynamite! Fantastic find. awesome food, loaded with umami. Luke was our server, very professional. Thank you all
Amazing food! Far from ordinary, but close to home made goodness.
Really pleasant meal. Steak was solid.
Impeccable service, food was amazing. Definitely worth the price. Drove all the way from Montreal to eat there!
Always great food and fun atmosphere.
The food is amazing, the drinks are creative and strong. One of the top restaurants in Vermont
The best quality food in Vermont if not other places. Great service and overall atmosphere.
Top notch food and ambience. Equally amazing dining service. All if the staff are brilliant.
The food was good but expected better. Also, a little too pretentious for me.
Great service simple but very tasty dishes deserves all the accolades highly recommended
Delightful food. Loved each plate. Good ambience... a bit expensive but worth it.
Absolutely phenomenal food. Love the buck a shuck offered for happy hour and late nights.
Great food, close atmosphere, extensive wine list, local ingredients, pricy but delicious
If you want to go big, the go to hen and be prepared to spend. Food is great but a little over priced.
Excellent food and they handled a family with little kids well
This is a gem of place in the heart of Burlington
Excellent food. Attentive service. Not rushed. A bit on the noisy side though.
Superb farm to table fare. The namesake toast is far more satisfying than I expected.
We got curbside pickup, including a fantastic cocktail and dessert. What a treat!
Great food and service.
They have a happy hour oyster special, $1/oyster from 4-5p weekdays!!
Superb and original food and a knowledgeable staff who will make sure you have the best experience possible.
The food is truly amazing and the atmosphere really cosy. A great overall experience !
A favorite restaurant when dining in Burlington. Options of small and large plates, a vast wine menu, and beer and cocktails, too.
Amazing chef's table experience
Consistently the best restaurant in town. If you're looking for a special dinner, no look further.
Best meal in Burlington. Farm to table perfection.
Cool decoration and good food. However, the portions are quite small.
Had oysters, specialty bread rolls and cocktails. All were on point and would gladly come here again for another round.
Spectacular place, and amazing food. Not for kids, so don't bring them.
The best meal we’ve had out in ages!
Fabulous & creative food; professional service; attractive decor. Worth the money!
Great simple food with chik coctails and thoughtfully put together wine lists
Amazing Vermont cheese
Always enjoy coming here, if only for a drink. Great staff and great food as well!
Great aesthetic inside. Only sat at the bar but it was worth checking out. Hard to beat the location as well.
Excellent food, fresh local seasonal ingredients, awesome service. Highly recommended!
There was wait, but what do you expect with a place of this caliber? Food was great, everyone was nice.
This is a wonderful restaurant, very cozy and inviting. Fabulous food.
Probably best restaurant in Vermont, everything we had was amazing!
Exceptional menu and service. Wine list good but pricey.
Great oysters and craft cocktails at the cozy, firelit professionally tended bar.
Plus: incredible taste and ambiance
Delta: hard to find seats
Had: duck
Food was great, the staff was amazing and really put a wow factor into place!
Expensive(college student here), excellent food, great service, expansive drink menu, daily menu
Loved this place! It truly exemplifies the meaning of farm to table. This is a "don't miss".
Bartenders know their stuff, food is fantastic, lives up to its reputation!
They gave me someone else's table. The swordfish was delicious.
I love this place. Every trip to Burlington I come here and Im always wowed by the food and the service.
Hands down the best restaurant in town! It's a must try if you have never been!
Love Oyster Hour, $1 oysters from 4-5 everyday!
Pretty room. Food is earthy. Local flair. Enjoyed meal. It was pricey
Fabulous food. Excellent service. Burlington location noisy.
Best late night dining experience I've ever had on a Sunday. Thank you!
Everything we had here was amazing. The service was top notch. VERY expensive though.
Awesome place. Super cool vibe and delicious food.
Loved everything about this restaurant!! Great food, great service!!
Dollar oysters are great. Drinks and food are ridiculously pricey
Mandatory visit if you like food. Everything on the menu is delicious.
Great atmosphere, only had drinks but enjoyed them nonetheless
