Sadly no dine-in due to COVID restrictions. This is was my very first order and very first time trying their food. We got the meal for two people and everything was delicious! Prices were reasonable and food was ready on time. Their brisket is great 😋

There is something pleasingly barbaric about smoked meat. Perhaps it's that prehistoric genetic activation that comes with tearing into a rib that's been basted and crisped over flames -- or maybe it's simply looking around a restaurant to realize that you're not the only one foregoing utensils and licking your fingers. Bluebird Barbecue in Burlington satisfies both primal urges and disdain for decorum, while serving up delicious smoked meats in a modern and civilized atmosphere. We dropped in on a Friday night (sans reservations) and were greeted, welcomed, seated (within 20 minutes of our arrival), and attended to by friendly and accommodating staff that included hosts, bartenders, waitstaff, and kitchen personnel. There wasn't a sour face in the place, and while an automatic and shared 10% gratuity/service charge is not typical for stateside dining, maybe that had something to do with the happy staff. There's a solid collection of beers and other libations, and we were allowed to sample before ordering -- which turned out to be a valuable experience in likes and dislikes! We enjoyed a pizza-tray size platter of three smoked meats and four sides. With a dozen sweet and moist cornbread muffins to begin, there was more than enough for the healthiest of appetites. Our brisket was typical: fatty, but tender, and sadly, not outstanding vis-a-vis smoky flavors or unique spice combinations. Our pulled pork and ribs shared the meat spotlight and both fared better in the flavor department, with the ribs holding a nice glaze with plenty of pop. A variety of three house-made sauces added the extra flavor for each meat. Our sides were abundant and well prepared. The maple baked beans stole the sideshow, with smashed potatoes making a strong showing. Personally, I would like a little mustard seed or more vinegar in the otherwise tame coleslaw. The house mac-and-cheese and charred vegetables lacked imagination and both were on the dry side. For dessert, the banana cream jar didn't disappoint -- word to the wise: don't plan on sharing, because it's good enough to indulge your selfish side! Good people, nice setting, satisfying food. In Burlington's hit-and-miss dining scene, the Bluebird sings.

This place is wonderful. But what I really must applaud is the staff! Every person smiled and greeted my friend and I, the food was served in a timely manner and delicious 👏🏾 I was pleasantly surprised that there was a decent selection for vegetarian food. I would recommend visiting if you are in the Winooksi area, Bluebird does things right!

Stopped in for a solo dinner. Service was excellent, and the food was great at a decent value. Had the ribs with Mac n cheese, along with potatoes. Would also highly recommend the s’mores jar for dessert!

DAMN GOOD BBQ, drinks, and people. The whole reason we ate here was I was taking pictures of a home (I am a real estate photographer) in Burlington and I drove by. The smell of their bbq as I passed by caught my attention. If you can't smell the bbq before you get to a bbq joint it ain't worth stopping in. We tried the ribs and the brisket. The ribs were perfectly delicious. BUT oh lordy was the brisket good - and thank god they did not trim off any of the fat. My only complaint was the collards (which were delicious). I used to live in Georgia and they always cooked collards with country ham. By country ham, I am talking the Southern kind that has it's own particular flavor. I wished a piece of ham would have been in the cup with the rest of the collard liquor. Bluebird is so good I would eat there right now if they were open.

So it’s a near to post Covid experience here in Burlington VT. The indoor seating remains closed for the patrons safety but the brand new outside enclosed patio is open. It’s a different kind of ordering experience… You’re given a menu and reminded what table you’re seated at. You then go up to the window and place your order at the touchscreen Kiosk. Drinks are given to you the window to the left and the food is brought out to you. All the staff are wearing masks and are extra attentive to the guests. The menu is not the full old BBQ menu but the current pick up one. That doesn’t mean it’s sparse, more that it’s lean and mean. I purchased the pulled pork sandwich sans B&B pickles and the Chopped Brisket Poutine. I asked for a bit of extra sauce for the pulled pork because it looked dry (I was wrong). The tangy mustard sauce was a perfect addition to meat and bun. The Poutine was fantastic (I wanted fries and more BBQ - the gravy and cheese were a nice bonus). I’m a sauce on his BBQ kinda guy and even though I asked for extra, it really wasn’t needed. I’ll also mention I’m not the kind of person to grab the salt or pepper shaker before the first bite, but I’ve found that foods have been rather bland these days. This is not the case here. I didn’t need anything extra to add to the food’s flavor. Nice Job Bluebird BBQ

Best BBQ we had in a long time. We went to this eatery because we saw it on dives, diners and drive-ins. Bluebird did not disappoint. Smoke chicken the best we ever had. Side were fab. Make sure you don’t miss the margaritas. Think twice about having two. They are fabulous but strong.

Good but not great brisket was tender and dry needed way too much sauce to make it taste good. The Ribs were much better than the brisket. Turkey was smoked but dry and needed sauce to make it palitable. Mac and cheese was good, beans very good, collard greens Needed the mustard and Apple cider vinegar to satisfy my tastes. Good value for the price. 😎😇🌝🆗♥

Staff is very friendly, food is to die for. Their in-house sauces are all delicious and while intended to pair with particular meals you're free to add as much of whichever you'd like to whatever you want. I had the chicken with their white sauce, and not only was it delicious, the chicken could not have been better cooked. My friends got the brisket and the ramen and after sharing pieces between the three of us I can say that those are amazing too. I can't wait to come back!

I have tried a lot of BBQ places in Pennsylvania, I haven't found one this good. The restaurant is super modern and the food tastes great! It is a bit on the pricey side but that is completely fine. I had the BBQ for 2 and I highly recommend the chicken.

This place is great. Food was fantastic. Service was excellent. The space - inside and outside is cool. Only reason why I gave a 4 star is seating in back outside is next to something that released an awful smell; not sure if it was salmon hole on winooski River below or what, but it really affected dining experience eating such great bbq. Always excellent! Melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork and brisket are Sooo flavorful, so many great choices on the menu, the cocktails are great, and the service and smiles from the staff make the experience one of the best! Highly recommend it!

Great brisket, pulled pork, mashed sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, cold brewed coffee and black eyed peas salad. Corn bread was just ok, bread pudding was very disappointing however. Very nice staff. Bit pricey though.

The BBQ ramen is an interesting take -- I don't know what I was expecting but it was pretty decent. It was less ramen like and more stew and BBQ like. The brisket though was amazing, probably one of the best I've had! We had a very helpful and knowledgeable server.

Bluebird was amazing! Started off with the Smoked Mushroom Flatbread which was unbelievable. Delicious cheese smokey flavour and nice texture on the mushrooms. We moved on to a half chicken and full rack of ribs which we paired with the 3 house made BBQ sauces and mustard. Fries were crispy, salted well, sweet potato mash was good as well, but I'd try something else next time as they weren't as special as the whole meal. Ribs and chicken separated from the bones nicely and had a lot of flavour due to the long smoking time. We couldn't finish everything we ordered and so for the next 2 days I ate the leftovers which were still good! Even got some BBQ sauce and special mustard to go. Would highly recommend this spot if you like BBQ. They also served Heady Topper which is an award winning beer from The Alchemist Brewery in Stowe. This beer was very hoppy as it is a double IPA (I think), and a delicious complement to the meal.

One of my absolute favorite places in the Burlington area!! I crave Bluebird regularly. I can't live without the fried brussels with maple gastrique, their pulled pork is to die for, and the smoked turkey falls apart in your mouth. I've tried everything on the menu, and have never been disappointed. Honestly, the food is so good nothing else really matters however, the fabulous cocktails and friendly staff are icing on the cake 💜🍗🍸🌟😘

This place is a must! You can tell how much they care about what they do by how good the beans and fries are. Most BBQ places I've been these items seem like an after thought. Delicious. Really delicious. The ribs and burnt ends really blew my mind and totally beat my expectations. I'm definitely not the authority on BBQ but this was great IMHO. I ate at the bar and my service was exceptional - even took the time to explain all the sauces. I'll be back!

Yummy! I liked the 1950s music: Buddy Holly, Hank Williams Jr., Danny and the Juniors, &c. For some reason the mashed potatoes were the best part of our party's meal...? Unexpected. Mediocre collard greens. Can't win 'em all. *shrug* Pleasant staff; we were thanked for visiting by like five separate employees on the way out.

Drinks were great and prompt, bar service was excellent. The food was also quite good and came out in a timely manner. However the waitress, Jenna, was a bit spacey and not the best. Didn't fill our waters when we arrived, was not very attentive throughout and didn't seem to have a great knowledge of the menu. After hearing amazing things about some of the "best barbeque on the east coast" we decided to check it out. Immediately the place gives a vibe of the traditional BBQ joint with a cabin feel of wood planked walls and floors. A full bar lined the wall with plenty of personal space at our table. Luckily there was no weekday crowd (likely due to the huge snowstorm keeping people away), but I've heard the weekends can be incredibly packed. Of course, my 15-hr roast brisket was absolutely delicious. Each bite was a perfectly, savory, mouthwatering forkful. Lightly doused with a homemade spicy barbeque sauce, and paired with local Vermont brews on tap, it was an absolutely enjoyable dinner event. The service matches the delicious food with knowledgable and friendly staff. I would indeed recommend this place to anyone and will be back soon myself.

Had the bbq for two with chicken, ribs, and brisket. Sides were collard greens, mashed sweet potatoes, and mac & cheese. Ribs were fall off the bone, bbq sauce choices were good for those who like sweet bbq and those who don't. The mashed sweet potatoes had rosemary which was unexpected, but tasty. Great service, clean restaurant, pleasant atmosphere.

The best BBQ in town. Was visiting from Portland Maine for my honeymoon, and ate here for dinner. Make a reservation if it's their busy time. Which you can easily do online at their website. We were seated on their indoor porch, where we could hear the peepers in the pond below, at sunset. We will return most definitely.

Must eat BBQ! This place is your best bet in the area if you are hankering for some BBQ. The menu offers a wide variety of solid BBQ standbys like 15 hour brisket or bbq chicken, as well as some more creative specialty dishes like pulled pork nachos. The drink section is on point with a great selection of local brews as well as some macro beers if you want to crush a cheapie with your meal. We sat outdoors on the patio and had a sweet view of the river below, but the inside and bar area are really cozy and worth checking out. Go here for great bbq, a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff! (Check out the site online for reservations and some sweet early eater specials not mentioned on the menu )

Wow, Bluebird has fantastic food and a great beer selection. I ordered the ramen bowl and it was huge, chocked full of noodles, your selection of meat, jalapenos and scallions with a handful of radishes and a soft boiled egg on top. Food is reasonably priced for BBQ and the waitstaff was excellent. I plan on making this place a regular visit when I'm in Burlington. The brisket is also amazing. I ordered it with fries and corn bread. The corn bread was served as mini muffins which was a little disappointing but still decent. Still recommend the place.

I will make a point to eat here again when I'm in the area, and you should too! Not to be missed!! Delicious smoked meats perfectly prepared, and a variety of sauces to choose from. If you're a Southerner you'll appreciate the collards and other sides that are prepared with a down home flavor. The service was friendly and fast, we chose to eat at the bar because there was a 45 minute wait. This is a popular place so make your reservations well ahead. 😋

Loved this little gem! The ribs and brisket were awesome, smoked to perfection and tender with lots of flavors. The mac and cheese side was creamy but not drowning in cheese sauce. They also had NA Athletic Brewing Company which I really appreciated. Who doesn't love a "beer" with their bbq? To top it off, we were given a wonderful dessert (S'mores Jar) to celebrate our anniversary. This place and its staff rock!

Try the Nashville hot chicken sammich! Pulled pork is amazing, and early bird specials give a very decent price drop. Menu has improved greatly over the years, offering some ramen bowls and vegetarian options, so it isn't "just" BBQ.

We had a simply perfect overall experience at Bluebird. Gabriel at the front desk was a real gentleman and accommodated our early arrival. We were seated on the back patio and noticed the whole place was exceptionally clean and well decorated. Started with some margs on a warm summer night followed by the Brussel sprouts app that was without exaggerating one of the best things we’ve ever eaten!! We had pulled pork and brisket with really delicious sides and everything was a notch above. Our wonderful server Emma and apprentice Emily were extremely funny and knowledgeable young ladies who delivered excellent service! Good job parents! In fact, ALL the staff we even walked past were all very nice. The prices are extremely reasonable so you can’t miss choosing Bluebird!

Love the food. Don't bother with fries as a side, they're only ok and everything else is much better. Wish there were more fresh / healthy side/salad options to cut through some of the heavy food in your meal. Don't really blame them though, this is BBQ after all.

Very rarely do BBQ places live up to the hype. Everybody with a smoker claims to have the best BBQ in town. This place does not disappoint! My Wife and I are very Covid nervous so ordered online and did curbside pickup. Easy and seamless.. Had the combo plate for two. Affordable at just $25 apiece with 3 meats and 4 sides. Plenty of leftovers. BBQ style is dry so you can choose which sauce profile you prefer. My favorite was the House Red. Pork ribs were out of this world! Absolutely LOVED the baked beans! I am told they also have excellent wings. Will have to go back again to try those at another time as only in town for the weekend. Highly recommend!

The food is as good as expected. I love the BBQ they have. This time we sat outside since that is all they offer at this time. Not sure what they will do come winter. It was a much $$$ considering you had to walk up to a window and place your own order. It would have been better if they had some fans to move the air since either was hot out. I recommend going to dine in or take out.

Bluebird has the best wings in town hands down (and possibly the best smoked wings I've ever had). We are so impressed by how professional they are with regards to safety and etiquette during the pandemic. It is so easy to order and they bring it straight to your car. The gentleman on the phone and who brought out the food was so kind and helpful. Not only is the customer service top notch but the food is incredible!

I've had the ramen w/brisket burnt ends and the pork belly. Both options were great. We have also tried the bbq for two platter where you can get a variety of meats and sides. Enjoyed everything, don't miss out on the mini cornbread with the whipped maple butter. Delicious!

Excellent fried chicken sandwich and the pickles are unmatched. Ask for the Alabama white sauce. The coleslaw does not have a punch, but the crispness of the veggies and the dressing quantity is superb.

We enjoyed the food, it was a limited menu because you guessed it covid and probably shortage of staff. They are doing outside dining only at this time. This was my first time and the restaurant is very nice and clean. The staff was wonderful and most of all the food was delicious. I would definitely go again.

Great BBQ food (even including the elusive vegetarian BBQ options!) Bluebird was a fun time. We had some yummy cocktails, good beers, and great food! The BBQ sauces were fantastic, the bartender was great and the server was very accommodating (we had a 3 year old with us). With lots of group options and some nice views it's a great spot to check out with a few friends. Give it a try!

Great atmosphere with dining outside overlooking the river. The brisket was fantastic and the sides of Mac and cheese and beans were delicious. The hand cut French fries were out of this world. The staff were all great and made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend if you're a fan of good barbecue and appreciate slow smoked brisket.

Spare ribs were spectacular - that’s the most important thing. BBQ kidney beans different but delicious. Kudos also for having some great vegan options like smoked seitan with mushrooms. Rest of the sides and salads were delicious. Well done Bluebird!

Reason for updating my Stars to 4 * is Update : After my review I got the email from Bluebird BBQ . They heard our concern. This Awesome Customer service. I love to visit again. For that I need to travel again for 200+ mile. It's worth to try again. Initial Review : with 2 Star Long time waiting to visit the Bluebird BBQ and try their pitmater wings. Finally we visited during our road trip ( 2021 Memorial day week end ) . Restaurant website says take out only. So ordered pitmaster wings online and waited to taste. Finally the moment came . It is total disappointment . It was too salty and to dry. Hope next time I will get the juicy wings

This restaurant has some of the best cornbread I've ever had, this isn't to say the rest of the food wasn't also very good. All the side dishes and mains i tried were quite delicious, all flavourful and well cooked. The only thing lacking here were their wings they were fairly standard, but not bad by any means. the staff is very warm and accommodating. The decor is rustic and the overall atompshere is very nice, not too quiet or too loud even with a full house.

Very friendly server. Food delicious. Got the cornbread basket and that whipped maple butter was awesome. Shared the dinner for two- ribs, chicken, brisket, coleslaw, collard greens, beans and mac-n-cheese. BBQ sauces are so tasty. We did get the Maple Bourbon Bread Pudding but it was not that good. Cold center and no flavor. But overall good experience.

We moved here from Atlanta and know good BBQ. Bluebird is absolutely delicious and the portions are HUGE. Get on their email list for their deals. We've taking to picking up a dinner for 2 for us and our in-laws (so we can "covid eat together" via facetime) on Tuesdays. Their sauces are great too, not overly sugary, just flavorful. It's also really easy/safe to pick up - they deliver directly to your car. Would love to see a couple more southern sides added - like fried okra and collards.

Adding great cornbread was unnecessary but worth it. We all thought it was exceptional and the staff was amusing and attentive. Outstanding.

Very good short ribs. Dry, overdone brisket. Good bbq chicken though needs more oomph, glad its Adams because they're the best. Tiny Cornbread muffins are decent, but a staple like this should be better. Kidney beans side is too tomatoey, but a nice sweet offset to smokey bbq. Love the garlic mashed potatoes. Probably as good as bbq gets in Vermont, and glad to have it. Friendly staff. Hope improvements occur though.

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The food was very good and plentiful for the price. The waiter was wonderful and attentive. However, the service and food delivery were very slow, especially given that all of the food is prepared already and only needs to be plated. You don't make baked beans and barbecue meat by the order. We were early and there were lots of open tables when we got there, but it still took us 90 minutes to be served and eat our meal. Portion sizes are very large. Even our two sandwiches and sides were probably more than we should have eaten. Every table with 2 people was advised by the waitstaff to order the "meal for 2", or whatever it was called. It was a good deal at $50 for 2 people, with lots of different foods to try, but it was easily enough for 4 people.

Great BBQ. Take out is almost a great as dine in. Tables are a bit small, or maybe the trays just have so much on them that it makes the tables look smaller. Regardless, order anything you want and whatever you order will definitely hit the spot. I have vegetarian friends that love the place.

I love this place and eat here more often than can be considered financially responsible... but the BBQ for 2 special on Tuesday nights is hard to turn down... every week. 3 meats, 4 sides and large portions = very satisfied and full customers who take home a lot of leftovers. Everything is fresh at Bluebird but I have to specifically point out their wings which are smoked on site (you can see the smokehouse as you walk in from parking). The pit master wings are the best wings I’ve ever had and I can’t think of anyone around who even comes close. I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention the friendly and helpful staff at Bluebird... they’re always willing to tell customers about the various sauces they offer and which meats they’re best paired with. Speaking of their house made sauces, they actually make their own catchup too, which I can’t get enough of.

Great experience overall. It started in the parking lot, greeted by the smell of the smokehouse. That's appetizer enough. Alex, our server, was perfect; she's attentive, but doesn't hover. She's pleasant and friendly in a "for real" way. Starts things off on the right foot. The food was super, and the portions are quite large, which justifies what I initially thought were high prices. They might be but, oh, my! You must have the brisket, and then decide if it's too pricey. I was happy with it, to say the least. The double burger was all my son could deal with, and my wife made a solid meal out of just four side orders. She actually had to bring one of them home. There's no worry about leaving there feeling under fed, and the food was as good as it was plentiful. We all were impressed wth the variety and quality of the sauces, as well. The house-made ketchup is excellent. Some have mentioned slow, inattentive service, even at off peak times, but I have no complaints there either. It wasn't busy yet, and we were seated directly, attended to promptly, and each staff member we dealt with was friendly and knowledgeable. I very much look forward to going there again, and would encourage anyone to give Bluebird a try.

Saturday night and with an estimated 20-30 minute wait, we thought it might be worth waiting. Been wanting to try this new local place. Well it was SO worth it! The wait ended up being 15 minutes, hardly time to sip on my "Flats" Margarita. (What a nice holdover from the popular former occupant, Tortilla Flats!) We were seated on the screened porch and ordered half racks of ribs. Sides chosen were BBQ beans, cole slaw and cheddar mashed. Well, the half racks, besides being very meaty and tender, were twice the amount of food we could eat. The sides were delicious and our great service, from Max with a flair, was prompt, cordial and he knew his stuff. When the bill was presented, it was a very reasonable total. What a great experience! We'll go back, with certainty. Do wish ribs were on the "healthy for me" food list, though ;-)

This is definitely some of the best bbq I've had in New England! I had the cornbread and bbq poutine with pulled pork and was really pleased with both, ate every bit. My boyfriend had ribs that he cut through with a butter knife! The portions are generous and the staff is very friendly; one member of staff took the time to explain their different sauces to us which was really helpful. The prices are fair and we'll definitely be back when visiting Burlington! Also, the building and overall aesthetic are so cool!

Each dish was well presented, flavorful without being over seasoned, and well sized portions, a Goldilocks situation (not too big, not too small). When you look at the pictures of the family reunion meal, the scale of the food is misleading. Look at the chicken it's a half chicken and go from there. It's a lot of food. The family reunion has all the smoked meats and all of the sides for 99$. We had 5 adults and there was still plenty of meat left over. There was enough meat left over to feed 3 more adults. The sides we're portioned a lot smaller but you get all of them which is 6 or 7 different things. Great food and environment. We left with lots of delicious left overs and for 99$ the dinner was a good value.

I'm from the south and stopped by here for dinner. The mac and cheese felt like authentic southern mac. The meats were all delicious. Get the bbq for two if you are going with two people, it saves money.

We were visiting from out of town and found this place on Google. Good authentic smoked meats. They had sauces made from scratch that were specific to the types of meat you ordered (Kansas City style, Texas style, and South Carolina style). If I had to do it again I’d bring a bigger appetite and order the meal for two plate that had four slow cooked meats you could order.

MEET GUD OM NOM NOM Despite the unstable chef situation over the past couple of years, the quality of the smoked and BBQ meats at Bluebird continues to be the best in the area. The coleslaw is hearty and crisp, the mac-n-cheese is gooey and a lovely shade of off-yellow, the mashed sweets are a perfect texture and the service is friendly. Also features a solid selection of rotating local and regional beverages, as well as solid options for gluten free and even a vegetarian option, which I had to admire at what is essentially a meat restaurant (though I've not tried it, personally). Features big televisions on the walls which is a bonus if you like sports and if you don't you can get away from them on the deck or in the back room. They never complain about my children, who can sometimes be quiet eating machines and other times insist on sprinting around the dining room and scream-laughing until they fall over (we go early, so no one else has to deal with their...eccentricities ). I ding them one star for inconsistency, which has been my only gripe. Sometimes it's 5 stars, other times its 3, but its never less than that, so if BBQ is your thing, this is the place. UPDATE: They changed their maple BBQ wings (now brown sugar and tasting very different), and sadly, that was by far my favorite menu item. I won't ding them a star for it, but I probably won't order as much anymore, and anyone else who loved them: I'm sorry to break the news.

The "BBQ for 2" (3 meats, 4 sides) is turning into a weekly thing for our family. For about $50 we can feed the 4 of us with heaps of slow cooked, savory cuts of meat and sides, with leftovers! As a stay-at-home-dad and seemingly "full-time chef" these days, Bluebird is my bailout when I've run out of steam and creativity. The curbside pickup (in compostable boxes in a nice branded grocery tote) is easy and convenient with delivery to my car window so the little hellions can stay put in the backseat. Thank you Bluebird!

First time in VT and I always look to try the local restaurants. I was absolutely blown away by your food. As soon as I drove up, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. The aromas wafting from the restaurant were intoxicating. I was so excited to get back to the hotel and dig in. The brisket sandwich was mouth watering. Tender, smoky and the cole slaw provided the perfect crunchy, tangy complement. And all this deliciousness was packed between two slices of soft, fluffy roll that held up all the weight of savory gold. The flavors of the catamount sauce and maple butter are etched in my taste buds and memory forever. I could drink the catamount sauce with every meal for the rest of my life and never grow bored of it. I have to say - since I was not able to dine-in, I imagine the inside of the restaurant to be the barbecue version of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. I wish I could have some of your delicious food here in NJ.

This might be the best bbq in Vermont. I've been to legit bbq in Kentucky and Tennessee and honestly think this place is on par or better. Great local and regional beer selection. It's hard to describe how lucky Burlington is to have an authentic BBQ joint. Not only does Bluebird have the utmost quality ribs, pulled pork, burgers and wings (dry rubbed included) but the quality of their serving staff is at least as excellent as the food. They also keep in stock the full suite of local brews. Keep your ear to the ground for specials as sometimes they literally do give you "free" food. Go here.

This was our second visit to Burlington and we had to go back here. Easily best bbq food we have had and can't fault this place. Was busy when we went but they managed to squeez us in at the bar and we enjoyed the buzz if the place. Valentines Day: Reserved for 6 showed up 10min early seated right away drinks and apps by 6 food served shortly after bbq for two good amount of food for the money friendly staff average eat time in and out in under an hour clean atmosphere no more noisy than most restaurants very homey and comfortable. The only complaint i had was a man came in with his kids 8-9yr (quiet and polite) sat at the bar counter... not very responsible in my opinion to have your kids eating right in front of where alcoholic drinks are made. I heard they had slow service but they have improved greatly even considering it was valentines day! First time dining there 10/10 will go again this will be our new place to go out to eat!

Had mixed feelings about the ribs. We took the rib fest; some were tough and chewy and overcooked, others were soft and tasty. I’d highly recommend the brisket. The poutine on the other hand was quite disappointing considering montreal is but a few hours away; the poutine had barely any sauce to go with it and the cheese curds may have very well been substituted with a brick of fat reduced mozzarella chopped into cubes and you would not have noticed any difference. Was surprised to see ramen sold at this smoke house restaurant. Server was ok. We were sat at a round table which pretty much lacked any decent view of a tv to watch the football game. I don’t think i’d make any effort to return here.

I had an incredible experience with Bluebird, specifically with their party orders. Our office ordered a number of BBQ dishes & I was tasked with picking them up. Upon arriving, Dan (their Culinary Director) had all the food ready & started loading up my car. I went to start my vehicle & it wouldn't start. Dan offered to jump the car but that didn't work either. Dan, without prompting, said he'd bring me back to the office so everyone could eat on time. What an unexpected act of generosity even when they had more (& larger) orders to deal with. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Passed it on the way to our hotel, checked-in and went back. I LOVE barbeque and was looking forward to it. I was disappointed. After waiting 15 minutes for a table (and the place was not full) we were seated, they took the drink order and then we were informed they ran out of Brisket, Ribs and Smashed Sweets - three of the items we had decided to order. Ribs are my favorite, followed by BBQ Brisket. I was so disappointed! We got the Pulled Pork, Sausage and Chicken with Greens, Baked Beans, Mac & Cheese, and Dirty Rice. The pork was good, but the Carolina sauce put on top was thin and too mustardy. The sausage was mealy and cold inside. I found the chicken good, but my husband found it a bit dry. The table sauces were watery, flat and too sweet. The sides were hit and miss. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and delicious; the greens and the beans were undercooked and flavorless but the rice was overcooked and flavorless. Overall a disappointment but a couple bright spots. We have talked about trying another night when the ribs and brisket were available, but we would check BEFORE walking in - maybe take-out!

The food didn't seem bad, but I should gave gotten the pulled pork. Instead I ordered the Burt end special for the day. Basically its the trimmings of the beef brisket. That is smothered in sauce. Its cubed and looks and tastes like garbage. What gets me is they have the nerve to charge 15.50 for something that should have went in the trash. I think the place is way over price. 15 bucks for pulled pork in this poor area please.

We have been to Bluebird a few times since moving to Winooski. The food is awesome and they always have great beer on tap. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because everytime we go, they sit everyone on top of each other. I understand it probably helps the staff but it would be nice to not have someone so close they could pick off your plate if they wanted to.

I'm not sure why anyone would give this place anything less than 5 stars. The food is great and is the best BBQ in Northern Vermont. I'm sure there are way better places in the South for better tasting and cheaper bbq but a BBQ places is rare in these woods. There is really only this place and Big Fatty's. I would never go back to Big Fatty's, the service sucks (college student who doesn't care and got high before they came into work). Food at Big Fatty's tasted like leftovers that they microwaved.... not worth your money. Bluebird service is perfect, one of the best restaurant experience ever and I'm talking from lots of experience since I eat out for most of my meals. Price is a little expensive but worth every penny. I highly recommend ordering a side of burned ends, it has the most smoke flavor. EVERYTHING I ever had there has been better than I thought it would be. Normally places like this have good meats with ok sides but the sides here are worth going alone. I have been ordering take out once a week for the past 3 months and will keep going until I get sick of eating great food... lol. The only thing I do have to complain about is that the portions varies when I order take out. Sometimes I get huge portions and other times I get normal size. I think it depends on who is working at the time. I would love to get huge portions everytime, makes for get leftovers at work the next day.

My wife and I are originally from the south, so we've been pretty skeptical about the bbq offerings in VT. Bluebird was a welcome surprise; all of the meats are quite good, the sides are varied and flavorful, and the ambience is great. Food The meats are the centerpiece here. The first time we visited we got the dinner for two. This came with four sides, and an order of brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. I would definitely recommend making this a dinner for four, as the portions are huge. We were a bit disappointed that they didn't have spare ribs but the babyback ribs were still quite good. The meat was tender and came off the bone just right. The pulled pork wasn't super flavorful, but the homemade sauces really made it work. The NC style was a little TOO NC style for me (intense cider-vinegar), but the other two favors were great. The brisket was the star here though; each piece I had was super tender and had that little bit of pink from the smoke. The sides were also very enjoyable. In the two times we've been my wife and I have tried the pickles, greens, cornbread, mac and cheese, and baked beans. The cornbread is a bit dry, but the rest of the sides really hit their marks. Personally the baked beans and pickles stuck out for me; the beans have bits of pork that add an extra punch, and the pickles had some kind of pepper or chile that gave it a lingering bit of spiciness. Ambience The feel of this place is great. The location is right next to the Winooski river so both times I've been I made sure to sit on the outdoor patio. It definitely has a relaxing feel and the waitstaff (some of whom I've definitely seen over at Bluebird Tavern too) are very friendly. If you're looking for spare ribs you won't find them here, but otherwise this is some of the best bbq you can find in VT.

Good barbeque. I had the stacked brisket sandwich. It was a generous portion of sliced beef brisket with onion rings and Cole slaw. The slaw was just okay, buy in conjunction with the total sandwich it really paired well together. The barbeque sauses were okay the sweet heat could have used more heat. The dinning experience was added to by the building. It was rustic and keche which added to the barbeque eating experience. Oh And they had homemade pickle spear that were great, would have loved to have been able to by a jar. Overall good dinning experience.

I live in the south and travel often for work and trying new bbq is a must when on the road. Nobody in Vermont could seem to suggest a good bbq place to eat but found bluebird on Google and decided to give it a shot. I'm a big brisket fan and get it anytime it's on the menu. I was blown away on how good it was and it was some of the best I've ever had. I always request lean brisket because I'm not a fan of receiving a plate full of fat so the fat was minimal. It was sliced about a 1/4" thick, was extremely tender and not dry all. Each bite melted in your mouth. The cost was slightly higher, $19 for I'm guessing 1/2 to 3/4 lb of meat and 2 sides, but I wouldn't think twice about going again. They had 3 types of bbq sauces that were pretty good but the brisket didnt really need it. They had a very nice beer selection with a lot of local draft beers along with a full bar that I didn't really see. But the beer menu had a detailed description of each beer which was nice. And the restaurant was nice and the service was great. I can't speak for the other items but if you like brisket you have to go.

It is technically Barbeque, but it's tailored to the Vermonter palliate. So the flavor lacks depth, which is made up for by sweetness. The table sauces to me came across as watery, sweet, and lacking in herbs/spices. It was cooked properly for bbq, and very well done, but if you are used to traditional Texas, Carolina, St Louis, or Memphis styles you will be left a little disappointed. That said if you're a Vermonter you'll most likely love it.

My main "negative" issue with Bluebird is that they keep "Bankers Hours." It looks more like a hobby than a business. when I travel back to Vermont from California they are almost never open for business when I have free time. I've never seen a restaurant that was only open six days a week and for only five hours a day. Here in Santa Barbara you would be out of business in a year with those hours. On the positive side I do love the food and the staff. I give you 4 stars but If you're not open for me or my Vermont friends we must go up to Church Street or Winooski and spend our money at a restaurant that is actually open more than half a day part of the week. I wish U luck though!!
