Reviews of Bangkok Bistro in the alley
Sitting outside after the sun goes down is lovely and there's free music from Red Square next door. Only been once and food was exceptionally good. Lots of drink and veggie options as well. Attentive service. Can't wait to try hookah next time.
This is a very unique place off the beaten path. Well worth the effort to find. I've never had Thai food before, so wasn't sure I'd like it. Man was I wrong!
Got the Chicken Satay and Tom Yum Shrimp soup. Pleasantly surprised it was not overly spicy and was very tasty.
Interior lighting was darker than most places with a variety of colored lights. Made for a great experience though.
Several unique drink options too. Definitely make sure you stop here.
Great little place that is tricky to find. The pad Thai Gyoza appetizer was fantastic. I had to have the Thai International, I mean duck and scallops, heaven. Great cocktails.
This might be my new favorite Burlington restaurant. It's been open for several years but had managed to fly under my radar, maybe because there are other great Thai places in the area (Tiny Thai), or maybe because it is literally tucked away in an alley. The cocktails here are among the best in the area, plus they also have unique, large drinks for sharing. I can't think of another place in the state that serves "sake towers". They even have hookahs! That's very much Not My Thing, but I appreciate the uniqueness (don't worry, there's no smoking inside the restaurant). My favorite dishes so far are the creative pad Thai gyoza and the crispy chicken (with curry sauce) bao buns, but I have yet to have a "bad" dish here. I recommend either getting reservations, or showing up when they open, because it does get busy. The atmosphere is kind of funky, with neon lights in a dim space and eclectic music (one night we visited, the music was all rap...very rare to hear in VT). It's a nice break from the standard asian restaurant decor around here.
Amazing vibe and even better cocktails! My fiancé and I had a wonderful time. This is our favorite bar in Burlington and we wish we had this place at home. Pictures absolutely do not do it justice.
This was my second time here (I live in DC). I love Thai food but I am hard to please because I can easily know the difference of good quality Thai food vs low fast food type. This restaurant has really nice selection of appetizers. They make all sauces in house and baby that green curry was just right. The only downside is that you will eat a lot and you need to take a nap after that yummy food. So if you’re in town, check this hidden gem in the alley. You won’t regret it.
We started out with a Bankok Old Fashion and Lychee Cosmo, both of which were excellent. The use of pandan syrup and lychee puree added a nice little flare to the traditional drinks. The Thai International dish was some of best food I have ever had. The duck, scallops, and shrimp all were perfectly crusted on the outside while remaining tender on the inside, which is not easy for these three meats. The garlic pepper steak special was tender and flavorful. Everything was clearly cooked fresh and each bite was flavorful. Would highly recommend and will go again.
Note: the restaurant is aptly named as it is off the main street and well hidden in an alley, but it's worth the detour.
In Burlington VT, you can literally take a trip out of of city by going straight into the city! Take a trip to this Bangkok (BKK) theme eatery and hangout because it has that special touch to deliver you an experience coupled with good food and drinks! I had the handmade pan fried dumplings (delicious) and a crispy chicken teriyaki bowl (reminds me of a Japanese Katsu don) without the egg and with teriyaki sauce. Come try for yourself and give your take on the place!
I've lived in Burlington almost 5 years and had no idea this place existed. So glad I finally found it! I love that it's off the beaten path and true to it's name.
We started with cocktails (wide selection of craft beverages), chive dumplings and the icon spring rolls. The chive dumplings were our favorite - so crispy, but also soft at the same time. For entrees, we got the Sam Rod (crispy fried duck with tamarind sauce) and the Stop Light curry (curry sampler with red, yellow and green curry). Both were delicious and quite large portions. Overall a great place with a fun, funky atmosphere.
This is easily the best Thai food in the Burlington area!! Fun atmosphere, the owners are great people and all of the wait staff are very friendly. The cocktails are delicious and unique to bkk. Perfect place for big groups/parties! I always have an all around great experience at this restaurant. Highly recommend!!
The owners were super super awesome and the drinks were phenomenal!! Definitely the best cocktails I had in Burlington.
Really good restaurant in the ally. Had a lot of good Asian food and good drinks. Can't go wrong with the atmosphere as well. All around a good place. I was really happy with my vegetarian dumpling and vegetarian pad Thai. Similarly the person I was with was as well. My only complaint was that the food wasn't spicy at all. The pad Thai was more sweet than spicy. I really like my spice so that was a bit of a let down.
I vibe with this place. Drinks are very delicious and versatile, and one time I came there with my girlfriend, and this family was throwing a party. One of the relatives was the best singers I’ve ever heard, and I was thinking to myself “damn… I wish I was a music producer. Someone needs to sign her up!” I’m wondering if she was a musician. Needless to say, made the food taste better. Music is beautiful, that’s for sure.
loved how creative and delicious the drinks are!! vibes are great. will be back to try the food next time :)
If you’re looking for some really good Thai food in Burlington, this is your spot. The food really hit the spot after exploring the city and the waiting staff is very nice. The appetizers came out in a timely fashion followed by the entrees. I’ll come back once I’m in the area again.
When Church Street is flooded with people and every restaurant has a long line, I go here. The people are incredibly friendly, the atmosphere is warm and the food is outstanding. Meals will run you around $20 per person with drinks and it's well worth it. The Chicken Penang is some of the best I've had and I recommend this place for anyone at any occasion.
We love going to Bangkok Bistro! Great drinks and great food with large portions! Love the vegetarian specific dishes.
Delicious food, really great prices. Strongly recommend the drunken noodles. Minus one star for poor social distancing. At most we were 3 feet from the table next to us, and they had a full dining room packed with people.
One of the best Asian food spots around. Very consistent. Always busy. Great service every time.
Bangkok Bistro serves the best Thai food in the state of Vermont and could easily rival top restaurants from any major city. Not only is the food to die for, the staff are wonderful and provide a really pleasant overall dining experience. 100/10 recommend!
Good, but not overwhelmingly so. We sat outside and the service was a bit slow. Had the Sam Rod & pork belly buns, both very tasty. Honestly though the thing I'll remember about this meal is the Old Fashioned with High West Double Rye. Never had an old fashioned quite like this one before and really loved it.
We had a bunch of apps and they were all good, probably more American Thai than authentic.
The service was terrible though. The guy, who I guess was our server, stopped by once every like 40 minutes. He was chatting with a friend behind the stage at Red Square and in the back of the alley basically the whole time. We also were charged for something we didn't get. We requested it get removed, said he would but did not happen. My friend covered the tip, but I would have given him maybe 10 percent (I usually tip 25ish percent just for normal service). Not sure I'll be back, but the food was good.
This secret spot is like a quest reward. Good food and eclectic drinks, options for gluten free, and very helpful staff. We'll be returning.
Only place with a hookah during the summer service is very fast owners are very nice make you feel like family food is amazing and so many drink options 10/10 for me
Wow I don’t usually leave reviews but this place was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too! The food was incredible.. so fresh and tasty! They also have a variety of amazing cocktails!
I enjoyed the vibe and the service.. overall I LOVED this place and it will be my go to from now on..
I cannot say enough good things about this place! The waitstaff, food, and atmosphere are all incredible. Seriously, if you haven't had it yet, you are 1000% missing out! Even though they are busy with take out orders, reservations, and walk-in's they are always unbelievably kind and timely. The curry and pad thai are hard to beat! Also--the fish towers?! Stroke of absolute genius. I cannot wait to go back and will never not recommend this place!!!
Amazing vibe and staff is super friendly! Food is so yummy as always with a sit down meal vibe, if your looking for a great night out start here with amazing drinks!
Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Burlington! The quality of their service translates seamlessly into the quality of their food and drinks. They provide a unique experience for restaurants in this area, bringing an atmosphere that is unmatched. The pricing is extremely reasonable and there is always new, creative options each time I visit. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.
Unlike Kevin and Jennifer, I have been a dozen times and each time I leave excited for when I can come back to enjoy everything that they have to offer.
Some of the best Thai food I've ever had, and great atmosphere! Servers were very friendly and attentive to my dietary restrictions when mentioned & the chefs went out of the way to accommodate them too. Cocktails were tasty, interesting & unique, added to the great environment & had a great time here. I've been to Thai restaurants all over the world and this was one of my favourites, I'll definitely be booking a meal here every time I'm in town! Keep it up BBK!!
My bf and i went there on sat night. We didnt make reservation and it was packed there. We so lucky we got couple spot at the bar.. Craft cocktails are fantastic. It take lil long for food and drinks but we totally understand everywhere prob understaff or kitchen is backup. The curry was so good tho.
Love the pad see ew, it never disappoints
Very cute little Thai place with a nice hippy vibe and amazing food!
OMG! The Siam Chicken was to die for!! It was a special, written on the wall, something from the old menu, but I pray that it has been added to the new menu when I return. I love the fact it feels like a hidden treasure, tucked in the corner of an alley, and the style definitely makes you feel like you might be in Bangkok...
BKK is an awesome place to go for a nice dinner. Great service, super cool environment, and delicious Thai food. I had a amazing time here with my family. Best cocktails I have had in a while! Definitely recommend and we will be back soon. Thank you and stay safe.
Such delicious curry. I will absolutely be going back. Great food, good location, and good prices. I didn’t dine in but ordered carry out; however, the atmosphere of the restaurant is super cool. Will definitely want to go back and dine in next time. Would definitely recommend!
Been a couple times since they got new ownership and it’s absolutely amazing! The food is spectacular and unlike anything else in Burlington. The cocktails are exquisite with a constantly changing specials menu. Such a cute place tucked off of church street. If you haven’t been, you NEED to go! Will be going back ASAP!
The new ownership has not only transformed the bar/restaurant atmosphere, the new menu offers a variety of wonderful Thai dishes that can be paired with creative cocktails. I ordered the fried Calamari, the Grilled Teriyaki Chicken bowl and “The Grinch”, a delightful pale green concoction rimmed with coconut and a candy cane swizzle stick that actually appeared “Grinch” like! The calamari was cooked to perfection! Tender and delicious, served in a lightly sweet chili sauce. The grilled teriyaki chicken bowl was simply awesome! The new owners clearly are working very hard to bring a memorable dining experience to the downtown. In my opinion, they have done so! Give them a try; you wont regret it!
Love the owners and the food game is very strong and the cocktail game is fuego.
I’m a real local and a lot of you haters on this review chain have no respect for the luxury you are allowed in our advanced society to have restaurants like this serve you. BKK in the Alley is high quality. I live right across the way and spend a good amount of my income on restaurants and all of them are working very hard under extremely difficult circumstances.
Show your Love for Local Businesses online. Not your hate. Report problems privately and respect the owners and staff. Respect.
Best Thai around! Great atmosphere and service. Amazing drinks and food. Went again last night and they were SLAMMED! Btowns new hot spot. They've recently renovated, and it has a big city feel to it with great lighting, decor, paintings, and music. Reservation only especially on weekend. They are the new to go to spot for locals. I was late to mine last night and had 6 people and they took such good care of us anwyay. The food comes out pretty quick even late on a Saturday night and they do NOT prep the meals ahead of time. Everything including the rice is all fresh. You can really tell the difference.
Been to Bangkok, been to Thailand and this place add’s it’s own twist! Cocktails are to die for and hit the spot. Food is modern, not too heavy and is packed with taste. Organisation appears a little chaotic at times. However the atmosphere and vibe make that forgivable.
To everyone whos saying the service is slow they waited max 30 minutes , on busy days they have over 30 tables, the service is excellent, and the owners are the best people! The food is WELL worth the wait- delicious! And AUTHENTIC thai food, everyone in the kitchen is thai to all the white people that say its not real thai food ahahahha this is a high end restaurant and most places it is normal to wait over an hour!!!!!
This is literally the best Thai food I've ever had! I got tofu green curry and edamame and it was super rich in flavor. The people there are very friendly and a great vibe and atmosphere. I would absolutely go back and I'm the type that like to always try new restaurants.
Truly a special place. Not only were the food and the drinks immaculate, but the overall experience and vibe was spectacular. Chompoo was an absolute gem. I couldn’t have imagined a better dining experience; with the killer food and drink recommendations, I wasn’t disappointed, and was beyond impressed. Love the food, drinks, energy, and overall vibe. Want authentic food and good time? COME HERE
It's a gem in shady hide out. It resembles the authentic Thai flavors with rich texture. Would definitely recommend on a weekdays as getting a table is difficult ( not that spicy and shrimp used are not baby size ).
Sweet mother of yummy food! This place is fantastic. You'd think that a hip, modern place like this would have decent american-style Thai dishes but you'd be wrong. STRAIGHT UP authentic flavorsand dishes (Massaman and drunken-noodles anyone?) along side more americanized offerings (try the wings!) round this restaurant out to fit any palate. Great for solo dining or food with friends. Appropriately priced drinks and low-light atmosphere make me a happy camper.
PS- my wife left 2 precious rings in the bathroom. We called back after-hours, got an employee cleaning up for the night who found them and set them aside for us, and we retrieved them safely the next day. Awesome AND honest! Just go already, you'll love it.
Great food and service. If you like Thai food give it a try.
I've been to Thailand and the food here is authentic Thai food. The people are very nice, the atmosphere is very nice. It's a unique restaurant, and I highly recommended checking it out.
This place is amazing! The owner and her husband are so sweet and took great care of us. The atmosphere is really cool and cozy. The drinks and food were delicious and a great price considering how good it all was!! 10/10 recommend it :)
Incredible food, amazing drinks, and wonderful staff. Absolutely delightful. i could give it 100 stars, I would. ❤

A nice sit down meal or a quick bite to eat you can not go wrong with Bangkok. Bobby, Aras, Aria and the staff are all so amazing. Also shout out to Jenny and Malia who might be the best bartenders and mixologists in town. Stop in and have a bite or a drink and I promise you will be returning. One of the best downtown Burlington spots to eat.
Surprisingly good Thai place! It's buried in the back of the alley and we got there while it was still empty. I enjoyed the Pad Thai Grilled Chicken (kind of like a Katsu), and my wife had the Mango Curry.
The restaurant is wonderful. The service is wonderful, the people were friendly, the mood is nice, the music is good, and most importantly the food is great. The staff gives you recommendations for food if you can't choose and it ends up being great. I don't live around here but I would love for this place to gain some popularity. The fact that its out of the way and secluded makes it not as loud as other places but still a nice chatter between the staff while the music plays. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for Asian food around Church street.
Ordered the Pad Thai for takeout - opted to do just chicken, not the shrimp and tofu that normally comes with it. SO GOOD, a bit more expensive than others in the area but absolutely wonderful and just what I needed tonight. Will definitely order again.
Great food friendly service and comfortable atmosphere
After pulling into town and walking Church Street market we ended up searching like a lost puppy for a place that looked appetizing for way too long. Hopped on Yelp, almost went to a Mexican spot down the road then got there, looked at the menu and was unimpressed. Hopped back on Yelp and noticed Bangkok bistro in the Alley. The alley is what Drew us in... scavenger hunt for an alley? Yes please...this place did not disappoint AT ALL. When I say GOD DAMN, I MEAN GOD DAMN! this place...if it were a person we would live happily ever after. Atmosphere is excellent, music is great and not too loud, staff is on point and the food? Still be my heart, the food is incredible. It's been a really long time since I've been to a place that put me in a sheer state of bliss. The food is fresh and every bite is so flavorful. The drinks are also very well done and really tasty. Don't bother looking past this spot for another option, just come.
Excellent veg thai dinner! Atmosphere is hip, and upbeat. They were playing R&B when I was there. Keep in mind that theres only like 2 waiting so you may have to wait a bit.
Fun venue, good food, and great staff! We ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert; but, after a little wait, the server came back and told us that the mangoes weren't sweet enough. We were impressed their honesty in not simply serving us the dessert anyway.
Went here with my friends for a birthday celebration and had an amazing time! The atmosphere was nice and the staff was very accommodating. The fun drinks were also perfect for celebrating!
The hot ginger tea was 🔥🤌🏼 Best Pad Thai I’ve had in the Burlington area! The chicken satay & scallion pancake was also amazing. …
Food is okay, has a decent vibe. Service was very slow.
Food had great flavors, good portions, and decent prices. Drinks were unique and so good! Very cute dining inside and outside.
I don’t usually post reviews but this is by far my favorite restaurant in Burlington. The food is spectacular and the staff are so hospitable. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
Had pot stickers and the Siam chicken special, they were both good but the Siam chicken was fantastic. Great flavor, perfect amount of spice, crispy on the outside, not over or under done. Service was good too, I caught them on a slow night and they were attentive without hovering.
So happy to have found this hidden gem in the alley! A dinner that truly transported me out of Vermont.
Good food good service. Excellent dishes friendly waitress. The fish bowl was delicious and saved us 10% with a facebook up load. There were only a few tables seated and I was surprised. This place should be packed.
Good and affordable Thai restaurant. Staff were very friendly and the place was clean.
Delicious! Cute place, will definitely go again.
We were visiting from Chicago, I loved the atmosphere, vibe, and good music. I ask if they could make me something that wasn’t on the menu and they nailed it! The food was amazing we tried a locally made IPA, the next day we wanted to purchase it, couldn’t remember the name. I called the restaurant, the waiter remembered me and gave me the info.. Wonderful place & staff..
Relaxed, romantic ambiance. The food and service were excellent. You can choose whatever heat level you're comfortable with, with any of the spicy curries. I wouldn't leave without trying the duck salad!!
Amazing experience start to finish. Drinks were delicious, good size small plates and even more generous mains. The Thai International was incredibly flavorful. Best pad Thai in town as you don't even need to choose a protein! (Chicken, shrimp, and tofu all included)
I really wanted to like this spot more, but it was somewhat underwhelming. Small portions, high prices for both the quantity and quality, and there was a slight taste of dish soap pervading many of the dishes. Maybe I just had an off night, but it has unfortunately deterred me from coming here again.
the staff is very nice and accommodating and our food came out in a timely manner. amazing food and would recommend to anyone
The food there is fantastic. I got the drunken noodles, Thai fries, panang curry, and another item that I can’t remember.
The restaurant was a bit difficult to find since it’s literally in an alley.
Cons:
- Food took forever to come out.
- Surcharge for credit card
Ordered Bangkok Bistro for delivery. The food looked great and tasted really fresh and delicious. The delivery was also punctual and the driver was very polite and was wearing a mask. :)
Great job!
Great Thai Food!!
The staff knows me, we always know what we are going to order before we sit down, this is how well we know the menu from going here many many time. NEVER a bad meal!
Food and service were great! And they aren't afraid to bring the spice! If you don't like spicy, be sure to request mild. Will definitely go again.
Bangkok Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants downtown. I love the Chicken Panang Curry, Sam Rod, and Drunken Noodle. Not to mention one of my favorite cocktails, the Bruce Lee (green tea infused vodka). Great value!!!
Having been to Thailand, Bangkok Bistro in the Alley was one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve had stateside. The drunken noodles & sticky rice were excellent and you can’t go wrong with a Singha.
Service was definitely lacking. They wouldn't split our bill and the waitress acted like we were bothering her. Food was good.
I had a great time at Bangkok Bistro - the food was great, staff was accommodating to my dietary needs, and awesome ambiance! Would suggest to anyone visiting the Burlington area!
Aunthetic Thai Food... i ordered PAD THAI Woonsen (The sauce used so delicious- their own creation). Also Tom Gar Kai (chicken with coconut )...service -staff were friendly n smiling..a good atmosphere
This is a beautiful little establishment tucked away in the alley next to Red Square on Church Street in Burlington Vermont.
Just enjoyed one of the most delicious pad thai dishes I have ever had anywhere... a special called Fried Chicken Pad Thai! I highly recommend you try it, and ask for their Som Bal hot sauce because its delicious along with some fresh squeezed lime. The mango sticky rice Was also delicious and well presented 😛
I also met the owner who was very nice, And offered that next time I come in I can ask for the fried chicken pad Thai be made custom: extra spicy 🌶
This is a place I will be sure to return with friends many times over 😍
One person in our party had food allergies & they handled that well, without any issues. We ordered the drunken noodles & crispy duck & enjoyed our food. Thanks!
Best pad kee mao I've had in Vermont so far. Excellent steamed dumplings. Great staff. Nice atmosphere. Definitely worth 5 stars.
Pretty solid, not the best or the worst. Fun drinks.
Took 40-45 minutes to get food, was very chaotic. Food was mediocre, and the pad Thai was very bland. Waitress never asked how the food was, and when we mentioned we were ready to leave, out food bowls we're still filled, they never asked how the food was.
Known some of the owners for years, happy to see them killing it here, and it's well deserved as the food and atmosphere is phenomenal!
Loved the pandan old fashioned!
Loving the Happy Boat at Bangkok Bistro. This place is awesome.
Really great food and wonderful service, only down one star for price. On par with other Church street dining options but pricey none the less.
Extremely satisfied with every visit.
This place is incredible in all aspect of food, drink, atmosphere. I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point, and am consistently blown away.
Fresh ingredients with lots of flavor!
The crispy duck dish is out of this world!! Bravo BB for the food, service and atmosphere. 5 stars for sure
Great cocktails, excellent food and very nice staff!
Really good! We had the Pad Thai and the Green Curry and both were delicious!
Delicious noodle dishes, but low on vegetables and meat (only 3 shrimp included for one of our orders).
Wooow, the chicken taste really delicious, and the service is really good!
While it wasn't super busy, it took a while to get someone's attention to order a drink. I like the atmosphere though
The cocktails are great, and the food was good too. Service was fast and friendly.
Never disappoints!!!!
Mail Tai buckets ROCK!!!!
Ok food, nothing exceptional. Not sure it’s worth the extra dollar or two compared to other Thai spots in the general area.
The space isn't much to write home about but the food was fantastic and reasonably priced.
Fabulous food and stellar service. Best Thai in the county.
Great food! You need to eat there if ever you're in Burlington
Amazing food, amazing staff…what more can I say!?
Best spot in town! Great service, must come and try.
Loved it, but spice level not that great

Best Thai food I've ever had.
It’s a bit expensive but the food is really tasty!
The best place to eat off Church St. Hands down.
Phenomenal thai food despite unassuming location.
Amazing food and great atmosphere!
A little pricey but good food... Too be in an alley

(Translation) Charming waitress. Fast service. The waitress does not hesitate to come back several times to inquire about our needs. She tells us which dishes are spicy or not. Very very good dishes. Sufficient portions. Very pleasant meal.

Serveuse charmante. Service rapide. La serveuse n'hésite pas à revenir plusieurs fois pour s'informer de nos besoins. Elle nous indique les plats épicés ou non. Plats très très bons. Portions suffisantes. Très agréable repas.
