Reviews of La Voile
Lance Li
Classic upscale French cuisine in the busy street of Newbury in Boston. Staff was friendly, and ambiance was very much French.
The butter from Normandy, France was an unannounced delicacy which we had a bit too much before our real food.
The butternut squash soup was delicious was well as the sweet beets salad. Duck breast was tender and tasty, salmon was cooked to the right softness.
For $42.5/person, the three course lunch menu was certainly an attractive price given its Michelin level cookings. Great food!

My son and I found this place while touring colleges. I have to say it was pretty perfect in every way. Requested a table outside and it was delightful. Service was the perfect mix of attentiveness, but not feeling like they wanted us to leave.
And the food…bite for bite was incredible! I had the lunch duck pre-fix menu and my son has escargot and the river sole. Delicately prepared, fresh and flavorful. A hearty recommendation for this place.

Outdoor dining at La Voile on Newbury has been one of my favorite things to do for years. We had La Voile’s signature, foie gras and a soup to start. The foie gras was creamy and rich. The sharpness of the salad was complimenting wonderfully and cutting the fat very nicely. The soup, my friends said it was very good. To me, the color was just gorgeous. A bottle of Sancerre made a perfect match for our appetizers, conversations and atmosphere. The waiter took our bottle to keep it cool so there were many looking and waving for more wine. Then our main course came. The scallops were tasty and perhaps slightly over cooked. It was disappointing to see these tiny ones at a notable French restaurant in Boston. The cassoulet was nice, but not spectacular. The sole Meunière smelled incredible but quite dry, which reminded me of a restaurant in Paris that served me a fish and two bowls of rice. Oops. The mussels, it’s always a good choice! The desserts were mediocre. Cream brûlée was very runny—almost like melted ice cream. The l’ile flottante, also unfortunately not spectacular. But still it was a very pleasant dinner over all and everyone enjoyed it. I’m going back there, of course, but trying different dish.

Cozy little restaurant, decor just like the restaurant in Paris. Wine list is huge which separate from combo dinner selection. Food portion is big better bring empty stomach.

I tried the duck entree, it was absolutely delicious! Soft and juicy with a perfectly crispy skin. For dessert I tried the molten chocolate cake, it was also really delicious. Totally recommend visiting this restaurant!

I ordered the prefixed lunch menu. I tried the soup, duck confit and Napoleon cake. Everything was well portioned and the environment was very comfortable. I enjoyed the food. It’s not heavily flavored and tastes healthy. It is a classy dine in and would revisit another time. The customer service was great, too.

La Betterave is a great starter if you like beets & goat cheese. Then you can’t go wrong with Le Foie Gras as another appetizer.
For a main dish my favorite was La Sole - a delicious, lemony & light option. 🤤
Classic cozy ambiance & great service 🌟

Went with a couple of friends and we shared all the dishes. The food was for the most parts delicious except the risotto which was average and the apple tart which was below par (individual items rated below in a list). The waiter was nice and pretty knowledgeable about the menu. The one gripe (and a big one) was the disappointing portion size of the main course, especially after waiting an hour and half. All 3 of us were still hungry after a full course meal. Even given that it is fine dining on Newbury St, the portion sizes were unacceptably small, a place like Ma Maison which is in the same league for example has twice the portion size easily. I don’t mind paying more, I want to feel like I actually ate a full meal.
As an aside, I noticed that literally all the asians in the restaurant were seated together in the back-most area of the restaurant which seems like a very unlikely coincidence.
French onion soup - 4/5
La Terrine (chicken liver mousse) - 5/5
La Soupe (particulars in menu photo) -3/5
Le Magret (duck) - 4/5 (needed more sauce)
Le Filet de Boeuf (beef tenderloin) - 5/5
Le Risotto - 2.5/5
Apple tart - 2/5
Vanilla Millefeuille Napolean - 4/5
La Musse au Chocolat - 5/5
Wine (Marsannay Les Grasses Tetes) - 5/5
(markup on the wine is pretty steep but par for the course on Newbury St).

First of all, the hostess did not have the right attitude which was quite strange to see. I thought you want people to dine there… About the food, we ordered duck confit, risotto, fish soup, salad and escargots. All of them tasted fine for the price since we went for the dine out Boston menu. I would rate four stars based on food alone.
Then, there was the service. It was clearly understaffed. How do you expect customers to feel when there were only two people in charge of the whole inside seating area. I know it’s not these two peoples fault but we still had a bad experience.

We sat outside on the covered patio, which in hindsight might have been our mistake on a 45-degree night. Not just for the cold, but because it may have affected the attentiveness of the service. I can't imagine any server being enthusiastic to come out of that cozy bistro and up the steps to our chilly corner.
The food was very, very good - I had pan-seared scallops over cauliflower puree with roasted baby carrots and a pool of lobster bisque. Exquisite. The charcuterie and fromage plates were overpriced - the cheese in particular, as the servings were quite small - but served properly and with delicious accompaniments of relishes, balsamic onions, etc. French bread was warm and must have been baked in-house.
Overall, an elegant experience, but it took us a while to be served and the appetizer portions could have been a bit bigger for the price. Would need to try again indoors or in the summer outside for a fair evaluation.

I had high expectations for this restaurant and they were all met and more! I had a solo trip to Boston and made reservations at La Voile for dinner for myself. Food was spectacular and the service was impressive. My waiter, and other staff members, were attentive and charming. The food I ordered, and it was a lot for one person but I'm a hungry gal, was more than perfect. I had a wonderful time here and I would love to go back. Thanks again!

One of the best French restaurant in Newbury street . I love their floating island, artichoke and vegan Ravioli and my husband fav was French onion soup and steak ! I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Boston and would like to experience French cuisine!
Maria Leonardi
This is an amazing restaurant. The food and wine were fantastic and the service was professional, nice, and relaxed. My mom and I came here, sat outside, and had a fantastic time. We ordered a lot of food and wine, and while the restaurant was very busy we never felt rushed. I highly recommend La Voile!
Fame S
Dine out Boston, $32 for lunch. Loved the trout, mussels, and the creme brulee! Would definitely go back for the three course meal.
Lars Cianciolo
Delicious escargots. Best duck breast I’ve ever had along with the most tender steak with a shallot sauce. Great staff too who helped pair wines.
Hyewon Lim
Don't.. eat outside during this cold season...
Or you will get to know how fast the food can be cold. But it was ok that the server gave us something electronically heated pad to put it on the chair.
The foods were great but duck confit is not recommendable. That portion was too tiny to share the dish with anyone. Overall, everything was fine and wanna visit here to dine in "INSIDE" again.
*The server learned "was it good?" in Korean. He can say 맛있어? to us 🤣
Zeynep Beliz Oktay
Plates are just right, loved every food we had on the table and the wine and great service!
This place would be my choice for a special occasion.
Frank Matheis
We met up with our daughter while she was in Boston for a wedding, and we drove up from New York to meet, and this was our special dinner place. The food was good. Unfortunately, the duck was overcooked and tough and we had to point it out to the waiter. They were very nice about it and fixed it right. The escargot was good. The peas soup superb. I had the mussels which were also good. Overall a sold good. Service was excellent. Ambiance and decor great. Restrooms were very clean, which is always a sign that the rest of the place is also clean. I would go back and recommend it.
Xing Zheng
Interesting French cuisine experience. I ordered the Dine-out Boston special. The duck confit tastes awesome. The skin is super crispy and delicious. The inside is thoroughly cooked, unlike many fast-cooked American fried dishes. The chicken liver mousse has a very strong favor, so you'd better mix it with bread and vegs to take a bite. The starter French bread is also good. The floating island dessert is disappointing. Price is on the higher end. The servers are really nice and the setting is very cozy.
Sarah Tucker
Lovely back bay luncheon spot, generous fois gras portion that was absolutely delicious. Service was charming and attentive without being obtrusive. Mussels and duck both cooked to perfection, extensive wine list. We will be back
Tehaunui
Fantastic service and food, really knowledgeable staff and friendly. Great wines, delicious and tasty food, great spot and nice suggestions from the staff.
Ana Valle
Fantastic dinner and service. Very authentic French restaurant with good wine selection. Cannot wait to return!
Lisa Marquis
Delicious meal, excellent service, generous pour for wine -by-the-glass, nice menu. We dined streetwside in the warm evening air. The entrees were slow as a guess, due to low staffing experienced by so many restaurants during the pandemic gov't benefit period. I'd return!
Denitsa Kosharova
Great food, amazing authentic experience in the middle of Boston. We did the entire French dinner ritual starting with charcuterie, main course, wine, desert and digestive. Service was amazing throughout, the duck breast was outstanding and the creme Brule made me actually like creme Brule. We had cognac (served warmed up!) and wonderful espresso to finish. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend.
Alex Karayan
Seriously this is the best place to go to if you were looking for an authentic French restaurant because others are just run by American restaurant groups and don’t even have staff that speak French.
It is much cheaper than others and is so charming inside with French music.
The food here is excellent and is my go to, and approved by my French mom lol
The roasted chicken is unbelievably moist and tasty and worth the wait. The mashed potatoes they use are the best.
My wife comes here strictly for the door were sold which is pricey but the only one in the area that is consistently excellent.

Impeccable service for lunch, great food and representative of French quality. Wonderful service from the French manager, makes me optimistic about the rest of the poor service I have received in some restaurants. She did not charge me for the wrong plate nor for its replacement. Will be coming back and recommend it to anyone who would like to taste to a bit of haven

Fantastic waitstaff! The 3 course meal for $55 is of good value. The rib eye steak was good. Loved the onions on top of the rib eye. The pastry for dessert was really good too.
Karen Forleo
Fabulous! We had a wonderful experience. The service was exceptional, very attentive to our needs. The food was perfect.
Best duck ever. Our friends invited us to join them on their 4th time to La Voile for a celebration night. Highly recommended!😋 …
Sho Szczepaniuk
The food was disappointing, and the service was abysmal. The bread was not warm, the toast for La Terrine was burnt (but put burnt side down to try and hide the fact), the lamb was over-salted, the duck confit was over-salted, the fries were overcooked and somehow not crispy, and the chocolate mousse was too heavy. The escargot were delicious though. The server’s mask did not cover his mouth, and he did the bare minimum of what is expected. He topped us up on water and wine. He did not interact with us, did not ask how we were doing, did not ask how the food was, did not explain the menu, we had to ask if we could order food, and we had to ask to receive the check. It took close to an hour for the main course to arrive and 30 minutes for dessert to arrive after we were done. I would expect a three hour meal in France, but a three hour meal with the experience we had is a disgrace. I am giving my review more than 2 stars because the restaurant manager called the next day to try and make it right.
Executive Thrillseeker
Absolute gem that we just happened to stumble across tonight after going to the Red Sox game this afternoon… Came inside highly anticipating getting the escargot which turned out to be fantastic along with a highly recommended bottle of red wine traditional muscles a shrimp corn soup and a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. Not to take away from the enthusiasm yet professional and charming waitstaff who went above and beyond

September 2022: la voile has about 15 outdoor tables. Very pleasant atmospheres with people walking by but not too closely. I had food gras with pear, and duck. Both excellent.
2017:I really enjoyed the food - fois gras, scallops, apple tart - however the service was not up to par. We were not given bread until we asked, I felt somewhat rushed through the meal, the roast of coffee was identified as medium when I asked in fact it was a dark roast.

This is an amazing restaurant.
Everything was professional, nice and comfortable .

La Voile is our favorite French in Boston! We came here for Restaurant Week a bit back and really enjoyed everything we had, especially the duck, which was so incredible. While it's a bit of a splurge, it's worth every penny, and we have not yet tried a dish that would disappoint. Excited to be coming back here again!

Excellent French fare in a restaurant that is about excellent service and excellent fare. We popped in for dinner one Sunday evening and were thrilled to find a great menu and wine list paired with professional service. We shall return to La Viole.
Lorraine Farquharson
Great atmosphere and food. The restaurant was absolutely packed when we arrived for our dinner reservation but we were well looked after and quickly seated. Waiter brought us a second round of drinks to apologize for the slight delay between our starter and main course which we had not even mentioned. Highly recommend but make a reservation.
Thea Pan
good service, great food, great vibes! I loved the pan-seared foie gras. Will be back :)

Excellent old world French bistro with reasonably priced bottles and selection. Excellent cheese and deserts too. Most staff are French with creates a fun experience on Newbury street. People watching outdoors is also excellent
Sasha S
Came here twice. Once for late night cheese and dessert and two days later for the full dinner.
Both time excellent experience.
Cheese board was very good, all the cheeses were full of flavor.
For the dinner (4 ppl), we had onion soup and Smoked salmon as an appetizer. Smoked salmon - huge plate good to share for 4 ppl.
For main course we had duck breast, steak, lamb shank and risotto.
The cook on the meet and duck was perfect (asked for the chef preferred temperature) and tasted very good. I did not try the risotto, but my friend said it was very good.
The service was great as well

This is a quaint little restaurant, it was nice to feel you could take your time to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. We chose the 3 course meal with wine pairings and it was delicious. The servers were informative about the food and drink and attentive throughout the meal. The lemon tart was the best I’ve ever had with perfect pastry, an incredibly tart Center topped with meringue.

Dear La Voile - what a splendid establishment you have! The food, the service - spectacular! We had mostly splendid time with party of six.
However, the unfortunate encounter that we had with the table next to us - un expected micro aggression - something that almost ruined our evening. The gentleman next to our table (table if four) came up and told us - no let me rephrase - commanded us to keep our voices down. Lone behold - the establishment was hustling and bustling with activities, there was no minimum dBa requirement - and it happened - the micro aggressive behavior towards table of 6 non white people.
This almost ruined our evening. However, we informed the server of this unfortunate encounter, who in turn let the manager know who in turn stopped by in our table to make amends.
No - this is no fault of the restaurant - however, it astonished me at this day and age how people feels they can go to a loud restaurant and demand their neighboring table to keep it quite. As patron of Boston restaurants - I feel violated that it happened to us.
Again - La Voile was amazing. They cannot control behavior of their patrons - however - unfortunate of the society who tolerates the micro aggression - and unfortunate that we were at the receiving end of it.
I would recommend the restaurant and will most likely be returning for the escargot and the decadent duck soon! And sincere request dear La Voile - maybe our table of six was unfazed with the unexpected micro aggression we faced - however sincerely hope other patrons who may face this - you have a better mechanism to make the experience better.

Exceptional food, ambience and service. Pierre was an attentive and kind waiter who went above and beyond in taking care of us. Would highly recommend this restaurant. A classy and upscale place.
Chris Heitmann
Outdoor patio was fantastic, inside bar and seating look good also but haven’t dined indoors yet. Excellent service. Nice approachable and still French menu.
Trent Murphy
I’ve had multiple memorable experiences at this restaurant. The staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable, the food is top tier, and the ambiance is a unique combination of upscale and homey. I always recommend this place to others who are visiting the area
Nakul Kadaba
Excellent meal and experience! We came for a celebratory occasion, and our waiter, Nicholas, was extremely accommodating in terms of finding us a good table outside and still being socially distant. The price, though high, was well worth the quality of the food and drinks provided. The foie gras was well cooked, as well as the duck in particular. The dessert was very filling and rich in the end, and well supported with a selection of wines. Would definitely visit again and hope to have a similar experience next time!

I ordered an entrecote in wine, it was full of muscles and not suitable for an entrecote that is hard to eat, my partner ordered chicken and it was very good. It took about 40 minutes to get the dishes. Expensive restaurant with food quality not suitable for the price.
Pascale Brown
The food was delicious. Perfect place for a romantic dinner. The wine selection wasn't the to my liking but the cocktails were delicious 😋.
Annia Hsu
Super authentic French cuisine, highly recommend! The escargot may look green and unappetizing, but it taste amazing, with some special sauce I can't name, but definitely worth ordering. The salad was great and the chocolate dessert is a must try. The fish was yummy too! The place becomes packed really quickly as well, so either come early or make reservations.
gammeelovemusic
I’ve heard of this place as one of the best French restaurant in Boston area, and finally tried it. It really is!! The escargot and onion soup are my favorite!
Florence Baudemont
It was our second time there and we love La Voile! This time, we took the Holiday Menu (4 courses menu) and it was really tasty! Amazing soup, fresh terrine de Foie Gras, confit and magret de canard. The creme brulée for the dessert is a nice surprise too. Just the French taste we needed!
We like the cozy atmosphere sourrounded by bottles of vine and the location on Newberry Street. Even if the restaurant is small, the covid protocol is perfect ( social distancing and a purificator for the air) We felt safe. Service +++
We highly recommend this restaurant for a cozy dinner! Thanks to all the team for this nice evening, my husband is asking to come back!d
Sam Sanson
If I didn’t know better I would have thought it was Tapas style from looking at the portions. I would have to say the food is good only because of the sauces. I do not think it tastes any better than another French restaurant. And for the portions and the taste, I think it’s over priced. But you’re paying for being in the area and the atmosphere of thinking you’re in a French restaurant. Even all the wait staff seem to have a French accent. Maybe some Italian, not sure. But wonder if that’s a qualification??
Like everyone else has said in the reviews, the staff are really nice and know their stuff. But we went when it was crowded, so some things where slow and they forgot to run our bill through.
The seating was really really close. So close they had to slide the table out so my wife could get in. We didn’t have a reservation so it was nice that they could get us a seat pretty quickly.
I think it’s overpriced and not a big difference in taste. A bit crowded to be romantic. I don’t think we will go back. But if you do decide to go here to throw your money around, you may like this place. I think this is more of a restaurant that highlights atmosphere.
Joshua Rosen
The sole was excellent, the escargot was fine but nothing special.
They have a very nice outdoor space
Xie Ping
We ate outside and it’s rainy and cold but we enjoyed the foods . And thanks for the waiter very much for the good service!
Wheels
Nice pace and good food done in an authentic French manner. From beets and pea soup to the sea bass and canard. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Ideally a 3.5 but I’d go back so gave it 4! I didn’t pick a great wine, needs more time before drinking or just isn’t a great wine.
Mary Dieringer
Great food. High-quality food and great service, pleasant atmosphere. Be sure to check them out.
J W
Excellent service, portion sizes are very good for lunch. The chicken was a bit well done and the fries were a bit underseasoned. but overall at great classic French restaurant, and one of the better choices in The culinary wasteland that's Newbury Street.
Don W
Perfect end to a cold sleety day touring Boston University. Loved everything we ordered. Le Foie Gras - THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD (spoiler - the first time and only time I ever had Le Foie Gras). French onion soup, fish bone soup, the roasted chicken. Delish, Delish. The staff was great. A perfect daddy daughter date night. Thank you La Voile.
JJ Hepp
We had a lovely dinner at La Voile. They were very accommodating of my wife’s celiac disease. They had some of the best gluten-free bread she’s had - ever. And they provided it to pair with the appetizers.
Our entrees were very solid. The service was one of the highlights. Overall, I’d recommend it!
Phile S
From the greeting at the front desk to the server, I enjoyed my time here. The selection of food is splendid, and the food actually tastes amazing. The drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were good. The decor is also beautiful, and reminiscent of some of the places I’ve been to in France. 100% recommend this place.
Eli Gilbert
The food and drinks was really good and our server was excellent! A really relaxing choice when in Boston. It can get a bit loud at times, but it was okay given we've all been stuck in the house away from people, so i didnt mind it. Prices are normal for an average date night.
Ava Quijano
The food is delicious. The servers are really nice. I enjoy the ambience my husband and I sat on the patio and it was a perfect day to sit on the patio. I would definitely come back again
raul sandoval
Not one for French cuisine, and I’ve been to France, but the duck was to die for. Just went with the 3 course special, because I’m basic, and it did not disappoint. Very friendly staff and excellent service. I ate about Three baguettes my self.
W Aurora
My fav French restaurant in town. Very reasonable price and the quality is well maintained that every time i go, it is consistently good. My fav is their onion soup, foie gras, and veal!
Charlie Souvannavong
We didn't have reservations, but the manager managed to squeeze us in. Great service. The restaurant has standard French classics as well as regional dishes we haven't in other French restaurants. We had a veal shoulder in a white sauce. It was delicious!
Madame MacLean
my sweetie and I celebrated the anniversary of our first date at our favorite French restaurant in Boston. My entree was the Duck Breast, Orange Sauce, Fingerling Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Dumond Sancerre wine.
We had a wonderful time and even recreated our first date LOL and of course service was always amazing because of David who ensures we have a good time every time.

La Voile is my "go-to" spot for Mussels! They offer them in all flavors however my favorite is marinieres. Also, make sure to ask for extra bread if you're like me and devour the stew as it's own delicacy. I also recommend the escargots. If it's summer time, do make sure to make reservations in advance as it does fill up!
RTV
Excellent French cuisine ! The sea bass was delicious. The environment and music 🎵 is awesome ! …

The best French Restaurant in Boston! Amazing food, friendly staff, and a fantastic atmosphere allowed me to celebrate my birthday in style.

The idea to bring La Voile to Boston came about by a Swiss-American named Pierre, a reporter-photographer, also a sailor by choice & owner of a superbe sailing yacht moored directly across from the restaurant. He soon became a regular customer and a good friend. Over time & many glasses of wine, the plan to open a restaurant in Boston together was hatched.
Everything was brought over… the zinc bar, the tables and chairs, the wooden wine fridge (an old Butcher’s fridge), the marble console, the vintage chandeliers, sailing pictures, the entrance door… even the staff! you can admire on the walls the unique and private collection of Pierre work, From Dali to Steve McQueen, through Catherine Deneuve and Hubert Beuve-Méry.
The Cuisine is evidently French and authentic, with some “Méridional” dishes like the “Soupe de Poisson” (Fish Soup) or the Loup de Mer (Seabass) imported fresh from the Mediterranean. These dishes will surely conjure up memories of your last trip to the South of France or Paris. The Chef, Raphael, prepares all les ‘incontournables’ of french regions (Rillettes du Mans, Escargots de Bourgogne, Magret de Canard…)
Sebastian Lopez
Excellent food and service. Super friendly staff. I had steak and delicious crepes as dessert
Alex B
Amazing food and service. We ordered Foie Gras, mussels 2 types , escargot and Napoleon for dessert. Everything was amazing
Sandy Lavallee
Food is always great and cocktails were fantastic. They have a very creative female bartender
Ajith Vasudevan
They are truly exceptional
Forget all the good food - the desserts are all outstanding and service is great..every single time.
Arnav Das
Great French brasserie. Excellent food. Happy people.
Mary Shannon
Outstanding service and classic French food. Our sommelier was knowledgeable without being pretentious, and attentive without being overwhelming. If your looking for traditional French food this is the spot.
Nathan Wait
Outstanding experience here, the food was outstanding and the service was unapologetically French. Everything that we had was delicious, cannot wait to return!
L W
Service is very good and food is delicious. So glad that we chose this restaurant for our Thanksgiving dinner.
David Lucas
I don't understand any of the negative reviews on here. If someone complains that the restaurant was understaffed or busy, well welcome to 2021! My wife, daughter and I quietly celebrated my wife's birthday. La Voile resembles a perfectly typical, beautiful French bistro. The food was close to outstanding - incredible value at the price. Wife had the duck, perfectly cooked medium well, daughter had it cooked perfectly medium, and I had the tenderloin again cooked perfectly medium. Onion soup was 4 stars out of 5. Desserts were incredible. Bordeaux wine was also outstanding and very reasonably priced. Wait staff (former waiter here) was easily 5 out of 5 stars. We are picky customers, and La Voile exceeded expectations.
Rommel
Great atmosphere, great service from our waiter. Food took significantly long (1 hour and twenty) to be served. Ordered sea bass and was dry. The duck was dry as well. The onion soup was good; I understand it is difficult to make, and it had a good flavor and it was not overly hot. I figure it was a busy night for the kitchen as the restaurant was full. Nevertheless, the wine was good, and again, our server was great.
DeAndra Gordon
We t there for a romantic dinner. It was loud and crowded
But ad the night winded down the charm started so shine . Food wine. 5star ..
I did have to wait 10 minutes at the hostess stand while employees just gawked at is.
I'm black so not sure if that was why .
Still a great place for a close, cozy romantic atmosphere 😍
DUTCH VEGA
fantastic duck, great steak filet plate, the glasses of champagne are small bottles of moet, nice quaint lil french restaurant
Zhiyou Deng
The food is just OK, a little bit disappointing, actually. It’s overrated.
Michael “Mike” A
We just finished dinner… glass of Sancerre with Pan Seared Foie Gras to get started and spicy saffron mussels with duck for main dish
Foie Gras was raw… mussels over salted and there was sand in few of them so I would rate those 1 star but my wife’s duck came out ok so 2.5 stars… overall not worth the value… the only thing going for the place is the outside sitting and ambiance… as for the service the host was nice and friendly but service was slow… it took almost an hour to get the mussels and duck out of the kitchen… at the end we decided to skip desert
Johnny Sze
Really amazing food and service. The foie gras (seared) is awesome!
Nathan Sattar
Went for my anniversary with my wife straight from France, and we loved it! Dishes and atmosphere are very authentically French, and the staff we met were all French (their English was great).
Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for authentic French cuisine.
Elton Nigri
Excelent French fare, with an extensive winelist!
GERARD RIVERON
By Far the most genuine French Brasserie in Boston (together with their Brookline location). The best Foie Gras I have had in any US Restaurant; whether “Le Poêlée or La Terrine”. The dishes are delicious and generous. The wine list is very extensive. Going there since 2006 and I never had a bad experience! They also have a catering service which I have used for various events, private dinners or lunches at various locations and cocktail parties. I have also used their private room for special events and will continue to do so. Jerome Bergere is the ‘Conductor’ (musical term) and his Team is composed of amazing professionals who make sure the ambiance remains naturally French; many are French speaking. The service is amazing! You can also eat at the quaint Bar and get the best cocktails from Rory Caviness!

The food was phenomenal. Everyone in the party enjoyed their meals. To note, the foie gras was fabulous, I do highly recommend the terrine. The green bean salad appetizer was fresh, vibrant, and so fantastically savoury. The mix of sweet and salty between the almonds and Comté really brought it home for me.
This was my first time having scallops in a restaurant setting. They melted in my mouth they were so tender. The cauliflower purée was a delight, light yet creamy, and the carrots (Nantes I believe?) were such a shock! I wasn't expecting carrots such a deep purple that they appeared black. I couldn't identify them as carrots to begin with, but they were sweet and delicious nonetheless.
The desserts were just as good. l'Isle flottant was a light dessert, fluffy and softer than i was anticipating. The caramel drizzle added a lot of sweetness that i hadn't been expecting, but it was quite a welcome addition. The mille-feuille is a large piece of flaky pastry that was easily enough for two people to share. The custard inside was smooth and rich, the cream throughout was light and the whole thing was just quite the experience.
Definitely worth visiting. I'll be back.

This is a very good French restaurant with all the classics. Very enjoyable time.

My family had dinner at La Voile in April and sat at an outdoor table where we could people watch on Newbury Street while dining.
OVERALL: It is one of the most authentic French restaurants in Boston with excellent food quality. My wife lived in Paris for 3 years and we visit frequently and were pleasantly surprised by the overall excellence of the food.
RECOMMENDED: 1) the French baguette from Montreal - yes, Montreal - is some of the best we have ever had.
2) Le Duo de Foie Gras is a wonderful appetizere with both terrine and pan seared foie gras.
3) French Onion soup: superb, probably the best we have ever had.
4) L'Entrecote: the ribeye steak was very good and at a ridiculously low price
5) L'Agneau: the rack of lamb was excellent
OKAY: Le Cassoulet was okay but paled compared to the other dishes we had and strangely had no sausage.
DINING OPTIONS: they offer a 3 course prix fixe although we elected to order a la carte.
SERVICE: Service was excellent and attentive.

Some of the best food in Boston. Or anywhere for that matter! Excellent service on the patio by Denis and Alex. We love the Mussels, L’entrecote, Filet, and Sole Meunière. It is one of our top 3 Boston restaurants. Classic French cooking done right and excellent service.
Master Flatz
Fun night, great food - great waiter. Sat outside and had a wonderful night.
Vladyslav Kiriienko
one of the finest French restaurants in boston, must-see.

I recently took my SO to Boston (in the winter in the middle of a pandemic). She absolutely adores Chicago, but I wanted to give her a taste of Boston. We wandered Newbury street in the cold and she wanted to have lunch at La Voile.
She loved Boston, but La Voile was the highlight of her trip. It does feel a bit like a hole in the wall (not a bad thing), and there's a certain French pretentiousness (also not a bad thing). Although I didn't enjoy the experience as much as she did, it was still very good.
We arrived near the end of the lunch hours, and our waiter left while we were still dining, so we did seem to be left a bit stranded (I finally had to ask another of the waitstaff for the check), but otherwise a great dining experience.
I know my SO can't wait to come back.
Shonda Maduro
Amazing French cuisine with superb service!
Vladimir Demi
Just good, French atmosphere, but the food is a bit below my experience with French restaurants in France, and some French restaurants here in the U.S.
Heidi S
My husband and I just had an amazing dinner at La Voile. We started with the 4-cheese plate, a bottle of Margaux, and we both ordered the Sole Meuniere for the main course. The cheese was tasty, the wine fantastic, and the sole was the real deal--just like you would get in France, i.e., the whole fish, which the server kindly asks if you would like de-boned. Delicious! Our server Valentina was so attentive and friendly--she made our "date night" perfect. We will definitely be back!
Nicole Vilensky
Overrated and overpriced. Food was not bad, but not great either.
Steven Berry
Delicious! The service was great also. Would highly recommend.
Pedro Colón
Friendly waiters and good food. The risotto was good!
Andrew Orr
Truly exceptional food and ambiance — very traditional French cuisine, lovely location and friendly, unforced service. We've eaten here on multiple occasions over the last few months, never disappointed.

Nice food, good wine, very cozy place, friendly staff

Good selection of pre-fix menu during Restaurant Week in Boston.
Fernando Schnaidman
Great foie Gras. Soup was good, but risotto was very good!
NOS
Food is exceptional. Worth the wait.
Madeleine
The food was okay. I had the foie gras and the duck. Personally I didn’t like the duck but according to my server that’s the most popular dish. My food was cold and the potatoes were a little under cooked. But I loved my desert. I had the Mille feuille with a scope of ice cream and it was AMAZING.

Super, as always. Delicious mussels, even the bread is very good!
Kristina Tokatli
Excellent food and service! Took advantage of reassurance week, and would definitely return. Our waiters were fabulous and the food was delicious.
Michael Mimno
There is no place where I would rather spend Christmas Eve than La Voile.
The holiday atmosphere is festive. The food is delicious. The service is attentive and welcoming. Alexander was a joy. Holiday experience is beyond compare.
Yanis Benyamina
Direct flight to France. Amazing Staff. Great food. Large wine selection. Can't ask for better.

My wife and I went to celebrate a life milestone and found La Voile from a friends recommendation. We made reservations and dined in on March 4, 2021. The staff was accommodating and authentic, we really felt like we were dining in a French countryside bistro. We had a great table in the back that overlooked the whole dining room with table-side wine service and intimate setting. We ordered more food than a party of two should ever eat and each item was served quickly and full of flavor. Risotto, cheese board, mussels washed down with a bottle of French territory chardonnay. Followed by rib eye steak and baked sole that was deboned by our server. Dessert was an apple turnover with creamy ice cream. Full, and slightly tipsy, we tipped our server and the kitchen staff equally and were ushered in to the kitchen to meet the chefs and deliver our tip and praises. A true experience that wont soon be forgotten! Thank you Giovan for the accommodating service from greeting us hello to wishing us well out the door. 5 STARS!
Jeannie Amick
Absolutely wonderful food! Alexander was a phenomenal server. He never stopped smiling, took great care of our food allergies, and made fantastic recommendations. Awesome, relaxing experience!!

We came here during Dine Out Boston. The service was excellent. They treated us very well throughout our meal. They have great decor as well. We tried all of their dishes on their prix fixe menu, and they were all delicious. The escargots (not on the Dine Out menu) were served with a nice hot green herb sauce. The cold soup seemed good, just not to my liking. For their entrees, they had mussels, roasted duck, braised beef shoulder, and a type of fish. The flavors were all great. Finally, the desserts of the day were chocolate mousse and cream puffs. Overall, the Dine Out Menu was a great deal for an authentic French restaurant in Boston considering they are usually very expensive.
Patricia
Just returned from dinner at the Newbury St. La Voile. We ordered from the prix fixe menu, which included appetizer, main dish, and dessert. The service was very good, thanks to our server, David. My husband said his foie gras and duck were good but he said the sauce that came with the duck did nothing for it, and his French green beans were overcooked. . My beet salad appetizer was uninspired;; no dressing and served with lots of dry friisee.. But the major disappointment was my halibut: tough; dry; and nearly tasteless -- though it was plated with a, pea puree that was tasty.. In the past we had a very good dinner at La Voile, so we gave it an extra star, but tonight it seemed to us that the kitchen was having a bad night, and the fare was very definitely not worth the price..
Liz Slattery
A taste of France! Quaint atmosphere, delicious appetizers, entree and dessert. The créeme brûlée was excellent and they have delicious coffee, must have been French pressed. Oh the wine was fair priced and had a delicious Malbec. Great spot fir an intimate evening!
Greg B01776
One of our favorite spots overall, not just for wonderful French food. It's a triple threat of Great service, Great food and Great atmosphere. You can have two completely different experiences here. Outside on the sidewalk on a beautiful day in the sunshine with a bottle of Sancerre.. Or tucked away in their cozy dining room with a stunning Bordeaux. Both are special and the food shines. Enjoy

Came here for our valentine dinner . Had the saffron mussels and beet salad for apps and the sea bass and the risotto dish with truffles . Great food and well prepared . Staff was very friendly and responsive . We were sat on time for our reservation. Will definitely go back .
mike houle
Our dinner party enjoyed the cocktails, wine and beer...... thou a touch to pricey.
The Apps were excellent especially the beet plate and Mussels.
Main entrée's were excellent and well priced. The lobster on mushroom risotto was to die for. The roasted duck was excellent but came with only one fingerling potato could have spare two or three more.
The double expresso ordered with the crème burlee where excellent.
The wait staff was very fun, friendly and always made sure we had everything we needed.
Cynthia Hajal
The appetizers and starters at La Voile are amazing! They offer actual French cheeses and the Foie Gras they make is incredible. The mains are a little less exciting in my opinion but still very good and close to authentic French dishes. Favorites are the cheese platter and foie gras, as well as the quiche.
Dan Ouellette
Great food. Great service. Coat checks and retrieval was a bit of a mess but we were there for the food, service, and atmosphere and all were very good. I would definitely return. I frequent Brasserie Jo but this is certainly comparable and the waitstaff actually speak French. Make sure your wallet is full because it's expensive. Recommend.
J C
Wonderful! Every time we are in Boston we make time to have a meal at La Voile. Great place for a nice long lunch and Dinner is just as good! We haven't been disappointed by anything we've tried on the menu. Great little french bistro!
Charlotte Miller
Food and wine were amazing. I had the lunch special which was a great deal ($25 for app, entree, and dessert). Started with la terrine, then the moules frites, and finished with l’île flottante. 10/10
Service was very good as well.
Jordan Qualey
Great accommodating wait staff, ample wine list and menu, and nicely taking Covid precautions. The outdoor spot is beautiful and maintains a great atmosphere for the restaurant. We only had a few appetizers and wine, but everything was delicious!
Oana V
Very French bistro! Staff are French and a lot of the customers were French or spoke the language. The decor and the menu were very French also. I have this on good authority as I was having dinner with a Parisian there. The service was good but the staff had a lot of work to do as the space is small and tables are crowded. Food was delicious and I would come back here. Wine selection was generous too.
Natalia Casas
Delicious. The food is pricey but worth every dollar. The duck is exquisite.
K B
We ordered from the price fixe menu for a New Year’s Eve 2021 pick up order. It was a little confusing as they had lost my order that I had placed early that day but I waited patiently because I could see that they were very busy. It was very worth the wait because our dinner was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed every single bite of every single item. Cheers to the chef.
Le Quiche
And Le filet de beouf ...were our favorites!
Mohamed Ayman
This restaurant is one of the elegant, simply but beautifully decorated, with an authentic European touch. The menu was sufficiently variable, food was very good and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable and the bill was reasonable. The area and the street where the restaurant is located are really interesting to walk and enjoy the view. Boylston street is 4 or 5 minutes walk and so is the famous and eloquent Prudential mall.
Kelly Rice
I almost don't want to review this place so it stays my little secret.. but they deserve the business because they're a fantastic establishment. La Voile feels like you've been transplanted to Paris. The chairs, tables, bar, waitstaff, bartender and chefs are all from France and it makes it even more quaint. We went with my in laws who raved that it was better than some of the places they ate at in Paris! The food is outstanding and the service as well. Well worth the money. The rotating prix fixe menus are a great value. They also have the best macaroons I have had in Boston. I am seriously considering asking if I can just buy some of them to go. Get a table for your next celebration dinner!
Nick Gold
I just had a perfect experience here! Fantastic food (pâté and mussels were amazing) and the red of the day was incredible (had to have two glasses). It’s a gorgeous day, the sky is blue with puffy clouds, the flowers are in bloom, and I just had an exceptional meal and dining experience. I will most definitely be back!
Alison Kan
Came for Dine Out Boston Week with my family, where they offered $38 for 3 courses. We got salad, cold soup, fois gras (additional charge) as starters, and also tried the escargot from the regular menu. I wasn't a fan of the cold soup, but everything else was pretty good. We got the mussels, swordfish, roast duck breast, and braised beef as entrees. Everything tasted pretty good, but the braised beef looked pretty bad. They could have tried a little harder on the presentation. Then we got profiteroles and chocolate mousse as our desserts. Both were super rich and delicious. Overall, pretty good food, seems pretty authentic, but I don't know that I'd want to pay regular prices for everything if I visit during the rest of the year.
Damian Siekonic
The two of us wanted someplace new to try for lunch in Boston while shopping Copley Place & the Pru, and this place is just a block away on Newberry Street. We sat outside on a beautiful summer day and started our lunch sharing the pâté appetizer and it was AWESOME! Our mains were the duck confit and the prime rib, and they did not disappoint. Portions were generous and the plates expertly presented. We've had French fare in Europe and Quebec, and this place stands tall among our best experiences. A true gem in the Back Bay!

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here on Saturday night. From the moment we walked in we were treated like the guests of honor. The area we sat in was very well decorated, including candles at each table, and cultivated a warm and cozy feeling for us. We both ordered a glass of wine (me the Malbec and she the Riesling) and they were both better than expected. The food was phenomenal as well. The roasted fingerling potatoes that accompanied the half chicken entree were some of the best I have ever had. To top off our meal we indulged in the L'ile Flotante -- a soft meringue floating in creme Anglaise -- and it was delectable. I wish I knew the name of our kind and attentive waiter, especially since he brought us 2 glasses of champagne gratis and said Happy Anniversary. All in all it was an unforgettable experience and we will most certainly be back again.
Michael Fulco
Close your eyes....you're in France. From the charming French waiters to the consistently authentic, delicious and interesting dishes, La Voile delivers a wonderful experience again and again. Never precious or fussy as some French restaurants can be. Plus the dishes are unique and savory, including fine fish, a memorable risotto as a starter, and a roasted chicken for two that is distinguished.... I mean it! The affordable wines are carefully selected and way better than usual at this price point, so you can keep to a budget, especially with the $45 prix fixe option that lets you try all courses. Based on a dozen visits in 5 years, I can tell you that La Voile remains at the top of their game.
Elizabeth Evanick
Our server, Denis, was charming and efficient. He suggested the White Negroni, a hit with all. All of our meals were spot-on. Great place for a special anniversary meal.
Schuyler Goodman
The spicy saffron mussels and seared duck are some of the best things we've eaten. We're looking forward to going again.
Chris Achorn
I wanted to bring my French girlfriend somewhere nice for her birthday, and this worked out well. The entire wait staff seemed to be French, and the interior seemed to give off an authentic feeling. The food was fantastic (even by her high standards). Escargots, some kind of scallop dish (with risotto?), and beef Bourguignon were all excellent.
The only problem is parking; we went on Thursday night for a 7:30 reservation and it was very difficult hunting for a parking spot. I recommend considering that, but the restaurant itself was certainly worth the money.
Alex Dytko
I would give 6 🌟 if I could for service a food!
Joel Lardizabal
sublime foie gras. excellent crispy duck. dessert was not bad. wine selection was extensive
Michael Katz
One of my favorite French restaurants in the city. Staff isn't overly friendly but knows the food and menu well. Superbly prepared food. My favorite is the whole white fish which they debone at the table with amazing skill. Cheese plate and some good red wine is a perfect end to a great meal!
Chris
No doubt, a real French experience with the menu, wine and food. I can’t say enough, but this is perfect night out. We were a group of 4, and everyone thought it was incredible.
Can’t wait to return!
Dave Ekrem
I haven't enjoyed French food this much since Petite Auberge in Manhattan closed. We sat at the bar and resolved to always do so in the future--better attention from the wait staff and we were close enough to talk. The place has a cozy vibe and the food is delicious. I enjoyed the duck breast and my wife had a lobster/scallop combo. They even had a normal American creme brulee unadulterated by pumpkin or anything--just good ol' vanilla. Everybody feels like they have to make it better now, but the result is weird hybrid desserts like pumpkin creme brulee. Not these guys--they do the classics well! I could have done without the fruit in top, but pretty good! Now, if they could get souffles on the dessert menu . . .
E B
Absolutely fantastic. We ordered the foie gras, cheese plate, and smoked salmon for appetizers. My husband tried the duck and I had the sea scallops for dinner. Easily the best food we've had in a few years. Quite the experience.
Michael Luke
Best French restaurant I have ever been to. My French onion soup and Dover sole were absolutely delicious. Also, while our server was new and did not speak English very well, he still did a good job, and there was a senior waiter there looking after us as well who cut my Dover sole at the table. all in all, a fantastic experience
Matt Nolan
Excellent, personable service, comfortable surroundings, and exquisite food. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and look forward to going back very soon. Strongly recommend for any occasion.
Nicolas Bardon
Good food.
Good service.
Great wine list.
Just go there and enjoy a taste of France. Make sure to book it if the sun is shining as it fills up very quickly and we had to go inside on that sunny Sunday November 13th.
Zyad Khan
Good food and service.
I recommend, I feel like it's well priced and the food was as authentic as it gets here in the Boston area
Syeeda Rahman
Went here for my 6 months. The food was to die for. I got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly medium rare and the beef jus complimented it so well. Even the mashed potatoes were amazing! The staff is great, very respectful and attentive. It is very pricey but definitely worth it for a special night.

Perfect food, perfect environment, great service 💕 …
Ilya
Ordered desert here. The service was great. The food was really good too. Do expect high prices though. Overall a good experience.
David Jaroslaw
We really enjoyed this brasserie-cum-bistro in the Back Bay. A nice wine list, interesting cocktails, and various good food options. Among the four of us in our group, we had cod, duck, mussels, and steak, and all are recommended. Going old fashioned, I tried the ile flottante for dessert, and that worked as well.
A great spot for a summer night.
Douglas Parke
Just got back from eating out for my anniversary. The service was incredible. Our server was top notch, as was the entire staff. The food was awesome. Tried some new things that I haven't had before and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. Will definitely come back. Merci La Voile!
Ethan J.
Some of the best French I’ve had in a long time. The winners were the French onion soup and the creme Brûlée. They honestly could not have been better. I also had the risotto and Parma salad which were terrific. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.
Marco Thiele
Pseudo French Brasserie. Had mussels and rib eye. Rib was average, a number of the mussels were bad. And the chocolate mousse was some thick paste that was anything but mousse. Unfriendly service did not help. Can't really recommend.
barry hynes
Every once in a while I like to treat myself to a filet mignon takeout from this great restaurant. Tonight I accidentally called the wrong location and put a huge order in. I was greeted by the maître d’ Pedro. When We realized my mishap he was extremely gracious,He put another order in and canceled the one from the other location. I can’t tell you how happy I was when he did this number one I was starving number two the food would have gone cold by the time I went to Newbury Street to pick it up. Brookline is very lucky to have such a great restaurant with such competent nice professional people working. Thank you La Voile and thank you Pedro I will extra enjoy this dinner tonight. Makes me want to eat there every night.!
Sean Desmarais
Wonderful food, attentive service, great ambience. The sole is wonderful. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. Don’t miss it!
Person N Cary
Had a wonderful meal and experience...and the wait staff we fantastic, personable if not witty, very helpful and attentive. Amazing salad dressing that came with the steak frites.
Carl Dedert
Delicious food! Service was a little slow, but we completely understand, they were swamped, and under staff as they, like most restaurants, are recovering from the pandemic. We will return!
Anthony Lee
Had dinner during restaurant week. Terrific experience!! Food and wine selection were to die for! Anna, my waitress, was a sweetheart and help me to make decisions about all courses and wine. Simple and fine environment, I’ll be coming back for sure!
Nick Ellis
Casual bistro. Really quick service. Good French bistro menu. We had the roasted chicken and it was almost enough for two people, so you'll get your money's worth.
John Farr
Wonderful quiet French bistro on Newbury St. I had the duck, the quiche, a glass of red, a martini, and chocolate cake, all of which were fantastic. If you like French food and are looking for a quiet place for lunch or dinner, definitely go.
Julian Massari
Nice! A bit expensive for the size of the meals, but overall really great food and the waiters/staff are super friendly and accommodating. Would recommend!
Leonard Krulewich
We had a pleasant experience at this bistro. Eating off the restaurant week menu, we started with a caprese salad which was enough for two and a bowl to carrot velute which was smooth and tasty. For our entrees, we had poached cod which was perfectly cooked and mussels in wine. Desert was a floating island and good creme brulee
Judith Norton
I have eaten at La Voile on Newbury St for years, always loving the ambience and the food. Al fresco in the summer is delightful. This time, however, I was given a surprise birthday party in the cold, dreary winter weather in their private dining room by my family and friends. A warmer welcome couldn't have been offered. Food authentic and amazing as always (steak frites; moules frites; their very special risotto; escargots; provencal fish soup; almond tart with vanilla ice cream). Service was impeccable, our servers actually took phone pix which they sent us that evening. Thank you, La Voile, for making my birthday one to remember. You are a treasure in the Back Bay.
Elena Agori
Excellent restaurant due to its welcoming, French speaking staff. It deserves the best reviews! Always tasty, a good collection of wines and cheeses, and escargots are fantastic!
renata azevedo
I went there with my 18 months daughter and the experience could not have been better. The staff was extremely polite and most helpful with the accomodation and suggestions. The food was delicious, the wine perfect. I strongly recommend to anyone who appreciate great food and outstanding service.
Jacqueline Brown
Best french food I’ve had at a restaurant outside of france. Great service. French people work there which is telling. They’re trying to get outdoor heaters in soon for pandemic winter dining.
Janette Negele
Authentic, delectable French cuisine accompanied by flawless, confident, understated service from a French-speaking waitress in a classic bistro setting. Casual, unassuming environs paired with a charming-not-overbearing francophone soundtrack. Lunch Prix Fixe menu is simple, delicious and affordable: soup, salmon and risotto cooked and seasoned to perfection. Save room for the expertly caramelized tarte tatin.
Jack Kohanim
Wow. Excellent dinner. It was everything you would expect from a French restaurant, but excellent.
We were there for Valentine's Day dinner and as busy as it was, we had a wonderful dinner and service.
Evan Fox
The chicken for two is outstanding. My wife and I return for it time and time again to remind us of all that we are missing in France.
Service is beyond a 10/10. This place is the best Boston has to offer.
Janak Joshi
I live down the street, have been coming here for 2 years now. Mostly for the bar tender, who is one of the top ones in the area. One of the very very few authentic European bars (even the wait staff speak French) with true to Parissiene taste.
I like this place as there are no TVs blaring ball sports, there are no loud obnoxious patrons, there are annoyed wait staff like st chain restaurants and the bar tender is why folks come here.
Theresa M
It was a Hidden Gem, the atmosphere was wonderful with all the model sailboats the service was spectacular and the food was delicious the entree I had was duck and I can't say enough about it and then we have creme brulee for dessert to share and we both wish that we had our own it was that good. We most definitely are planning on going back
Ainsworth Dev
One of the best meals ever! Curried Mussels, Lobster, cheese plate to die for! Must have marinated for a week! We will definitely be back!
Bryant Wu
First time visit the downtown location, went to the Brookline before. Nice ambience and great service as always. Most importantly, you can BYOB! It’s own wine list also has some great bottles for any kind of occasions.
Had a whole sea bass, perfectly grilled inside out. Definitely gonna visit again!
minh-chau dang
Friendly, excellent service; nice french (only) wine; great food. Cozy dining room ( french-like). Would come back! A little slice of authentic France in Boston--love it!
Kyle Pilachowski
Ok meal, ok restaurant, ok everything. On the positive, it's one of the cheaper French restaurants in Boston, but you can definitely get a better meal for a cheaper place at many other restaurants in Boston. Not only was the food just ok (I got the mussels and my date got the whole fish), there is NO PRIVACY! The staff was great and very accommodating, but the tables are so close together that you can't stand up if you have to use the restroom or even have a conversation without being interrupted or others hearing what you're saying. Overall, just an average dinner experience.
Leo Lin
Absolutely fantastic. La Voile is probably one of the most authentic french restaurants I have ever been to. The ambience is a little loud but not too extreme. Most people were well dressed but they do not enforce a strict dress code. The food is delicious, you have to try to Pan Seared Froie Gras which is flavorful yet just the right texture. Our party ordered the le homard and la blanquette, both delicious main courses. The waiters were a little slow to fill our water but I understand because the night was busy. Every other aspect of the service was perfect.
Bryan Pike
A little bit of the Left Bank on Newbury. Excellent wine list. Boston cafe society.
Tracy Shyu Foley
The food and service are excellent. They are really French cuisine... from Cannes originally. My friends love it too and thanks me to bring them there.
Guy Lunardi
This place has had very many ups and downs.
Their turnover in the kitchen and front is high so it is unpredictable.
Regardless, they have a shorter yet interesting menu generally and when it comes to French cuisine in Boston, it's a decent option if you are already on Newbury street.
Fay Dufort
The maitre d was clueless and lost. Our waiter flawless and knew what he was doing. The food was traditional French and the chef did not mess up anything. It was a delightful meal.
tako kapanadze
Good food, very nice place , friendly staff . Highly recommended
Dan Kirsch
Outstanding French Bistro!! The outdoor dining is an amazing plus to a wonderful meal and delicious wine list!
Susan Dana Kennedy
I was with a group of ten. Everyone truly enjoyed their meal - - appetizer through dessert - - and I'm told their bartender is unparalleled. Nice atmosphere, a bit cozy, good wait staff.
Nicolas Vachicouras
Very good French restaurant. The food is of good quality (you almost forget you are in the USA). And proper service. It's just way too hot! They need to manage better the ventilation.
Nic C
La Voile is exceptional.
The food, wine, service and attention to detail are world class.
A must visit destination.
Kate Smith
The best, attentive staff. Great ambiance. Great, authentic French food — everything on the menu is delicious. Wines are superb.
Paul Brooks
Superb, the charcuterie and the rillette made a good first course and the sole meuniere was spot on, and I did not have it deboned, beautifully cooked. And a good wine selection. My wife and I enjoyed the evening there.
Jill Silverberg
As a lover of Julia Child, I could not pass up the chance to eat at a French restaurant during Boston's restaurant week, Dine Out Boston. Online, La Voile seemed like it would be a good choice. So how did it actually do?
First Course: Amuse Bouche
I ordered the Terrine de Foie Gras while my boyfriend decided to go off the price fix menu and ordered the escargots. Both of these dishes were new to me and I approached each with an open mind. The Foie Gras was smooth, soft, and delicious, spreading easily across the fresh and warm French bread. The peach marmalade that came with the dish complemented the unique flavor of the Foie Gras perfectly. As for the snails, they tasted of garlic and butter. As my boyfriend declared "perfection!"
Second Course:
Although unoriginal, I opted for the beef bourguignon, which seems to have vanished from their online menu. This plate was entirely one single serving of gastronomic bliss. The meat was soft and tender, the veggies flavorful. And those mashed potatoes! So light and soft. My boyfriend's veal dish was also a stew dish, though his came with a different sauce and rice. Both were amazing and absolutely worth the trip alone.
Third Course: Dessert
This was probably the only downer of the night. I went for the berry tart and it was just ok. The fruit was nice but it wasn't anything that I would rave about to my friends. It just needed something more to it.
That aside, this place is worth visiting, though the prices are on the more expensive side. If you have the cash or are feeling like a splurging on yourself, then do come here. Otherwise, wait for another restaurant deal like Dine Out Boston. You get the same quality of food but at a more reasonable price.

The Best Newbury Street has to offer !
Quaint and intimate ambience, fabulous cuisine and very attentive service...... my fondest memories of Boston were from this gem !
I look forward to my next visit.

Appetizers and main meal were delicious however the dessert and espresso were disappointing. Chocolate mousse should taste l in ke chocolate not too sweet and the espresso was bitter
Aaron McNally
Authentic French spot, great Niçoise salad, pea soup, creme brulee, friendly and professional service
Henry Li
Excellent atmosphere, extremely friendly staff and great food. Would recommend to anyone looking to get a French dinner on the fancier side!

Food was delicious, great service

Charming French bistro with great food that you'll pay a little bit more for, but is well worth the price. Wonderful spot in downtown Boston for romantic date nights.

Was taken there for my bday . Was not disappointed. I found it interesting that they took it upon themselves to hire French speaking staff . Does it add to the experience? I'm not sure ., But it's a nice touch . Oh and the food is good 👌 …

Classic Bistro food with a flare. If you choose fish they bring it on a serving cart and yes the show you the head. Pure class. Nice in the summer you sit outside on Newbury St.
