Reviews of The Rougaroux
Robert Dykes
Would love to come back. Need to try more stuff on the menu to see if they deserve the full 5 stars. Saying you are a New Orleans restaurant is a HIGH bar. They got the look. They have some great Louisiana beers and New Orleans cocktails. I had some oysters that were good. But to get five stars here, I need to try out more of their stuff. So far, great!
Adam Aldrich
This place is amazingly good Cajun food. The shrimp poboy might be the best I’ve ever had. The bread was fresh and all the fixings made it really flavorful. Highly recommend this place if you love Cajun food.
Sarah Parks
I'm from New Orleans and wanted to see how good their food was compared to home. The roast beef poboy was amazing and better than some I've had in New Orleans. Loved all the Nola decor and everything on the menu sounded amazing! Will definitely stop by when I'm in Birmingham again!
Sandra Lynsdale
Really quirky and eccentric place with a NOLA theme serving up authentic tasting po boys. Food is very reasonably priced and great quality. It’s a no frills place where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Be sure to try the shrimp po boy and the ferdi, the beef pot roast was excellent!

Amazing Louisiana style food. Took our food to go, but the place has a fun, homey vibe with plenty of NOLA flair. Update 2022. Food is still amazing if not better. Such a cool place. Reasonable prices, prompt attentive service. Go here!
Kayla Glass
The debri po’ boy is absolutely amazing. I’m super picky with pot roast, but they’ve nailed it. I’d go weekly just for that one item. Very casual place. Super comfortable atmosphere with neat eccentric decor!
Clinton Alexander
If you're craving great Cajun food in a cool and quaint environment, The Rougaroux is the spot! The food is great and the decor is cool. It's a small laid-back restaurant where you'll be comfortable in whatever clothes you're in. Order at the counter, take a number, and they'll bring your food out.
I had a Muffaletta with a Boudin sausage, my wife had Red Beans and Rice & Gumbo.
Cynthia Wilson
Everything is great, authentic bread, real Catfish, shrimp galore falling out of the poboy just like in S. Louisiana! Even the chicken bacon jalapeno whatever it was poboy was good. Gumbo with thick, dark roux... Love... !
Lawrence Cole
Creative food. Fair pricing. Shrip po boy was fresh and good. Boudine sausage did not taste good to our group. Fries were delicious. Loved the esentric decor.
Andrew Edwards
Better than Cajun food in new Orleans. I'm from Louisiana and this place is as authentic as it gets. Made me feel like I was back home. My wife got the hamburger and said it was one of the best she had ever had in her life. This is a must go to place. And stop by Junipers across the street for a great drink before hand 👌 …
braden watkins
This was an amazing experience. True New Orleans flavor and hardly any wait. Can't wait to be back because the BBQ shrimp po'boy was perfect.
Edit: today was my second visit and got the led tasso burger of the day. One word description: AMAZING.
And the baked pimento mac & cheese was fantastic.
Gulliver Arkham
Great menu, however I have to admit I've only had the fried shrimp po' boy because I really like it! I did try the Burger of the Day today. It was good too.
Andrea Scarano
If you’re looking for one of the best meals of your life then look no further! This place is the place to go if you want some delicious poboys and gumbo. Every item I’ve tried from here has been outstanding. Service is always wonderful too!

WARNING: Eating here will cause your taste buds to send you on a field trip of deliciousness that you probably didn't get the permission slipped signed off on... The Food here will make you wanna move in. We visited the Rougaroux in the dreaded last 20 minutes of their evening service, being a long time alumni of service industry I usually try to avoid such, but the place was highly recommended and walking up from the patio into bar area was very inviting. We were promptly and warmly greeted by the gentleman bartender, he answered our newbie questions about the menu as we ordered some takeout. It didn't didn't take much convincing to order ourselves a brisket burger of the day, muffuletta, and you MUST order the bread pudding with pecan praline/syrup. Our food was clearly made with love and brought out to us most expeditiously, which not one bite made it beyond our parking spot picnic... The worst part about this meal?? Was seeing the end of it... Highly recommend- Will definitely return to pack on a few pounds; keep up the excellent culinary offerings, and you've gotta lifer out of me.

This was absolutely delicious! First time here, I got the gumbo and potato salad, and it was perfect. I have had such a hard time finding good gumbo but this is the best I have had in a long time. I will definitely be coming back, hopefully to eventually try everything on the menu!
J Krauss
Was just passing through town on the highway at dinnertime, told my copilot to find someplace for a great po-boy. This came up as a recommendation. So glad we stopped. Fantastic local place, awesome cajun/creole food. Get ready to eat some delicious food in eclectic New Orleans-themed ambiance
Brian T
Great atmosphere. Nice customers. Only interaction I had with employees was ordering. Food was out quick. Roast po boy was good. Bread and fixings are perfect, roast was ok. Potato salad was good and a little different. Tea to drink. Little over $20 lunch with tip and tax for 1 person. Want to try more of the menu before i lower or raise review.
Debraliz Isaac
Everything was flavorful and fresh. The place has a New Orleans vibe. I had the bbq shrimp po boy, fried shrimp po boy, and the gumbo. The food was a bit overpriced but at least it was delicious. The gumbo was flavorful with a nice kick. Would recommend for some Louisiana style southern food.
Harley Kirkegard
Great little spot off the beaten path. If you are in a neighborhood and think you're in the wrong spot, you are not. Outstanding NOLA fair in the 'Ham.
Michael Voeks
Came for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is tremendous, the barkers was fabulous and the food was PERFECT! Better boudin than I had in NO, Gumbo was amazing, and the Po Boys....no words. Definitely reccomend!!!
William Smith
I can’t say enough about this place without y’all thinking they paid me but it’s the real deal ! If you’re in Birmingham and you long for your favorite New Orleans fair without the 8 hour drive this is the place ! Wow the Po Boys are fantastic. I’m so glad my friend shared this hidden jewel with me, I picked us the check and I’m really a cheap scape !!! Try it you’ll love it .
Behdad
Got Boudin, Gumbo and BBQ shrimp POBOY and they were all delicious!
K M
Muffuletta and Red Beans and Rice were delicious! Little bit of Nawlins in the Ham.
Emily Rada
Interesting spot with a fun New Orleans theme and food to match. Prices are a bit steep, but the burger of the day is always good and the poboys are absolutely ENORMOUS!!!
Rodney Overstreet
This spot has tons of charm & is bursting at the seams with flavor! Great service, but a little pricey.
Graham Campbell
Oh hi Rougaroux. Recommended to me by an awesome person whose star rose even higher after this meal. It’s phenomenal. Get the oysters rockefeller poboy. It will change your life. The fries are good. The gumbo is great. I would have gotten dessert but I didn’t have any room left in my esophagus. The staff are awesome and fun and very helpful.
Beauty is fleeting. Food is love. There is no body image worth a diet that would keep you from this place and it’s food and it’s staff.
nirra poret
I liked the surf and turf po'boy (I think that's what it was called). It had one half roast beef and the other half fried shrimp. I liked the bread. It was authentic New Orleans style bread. We also had the gumbo which was okay. It had okra which some people don't like in their gumbo, but I do. I also tried the bread pudding. It didn't have a lot of flavor and it was kind of dry. Service was good. They made sure we had everything we needed. I'd recommend you give this place a try. It's good if you want a taste of New Orleans while you're in Birmingham.
Lynn Thomas
"The Rougaroux"
It is a cajun restaurant serving Gumbo, and Po Boys as well as other cajun foods. They even had a fried chicken liver Po Boy which I had never heard of before.
The soup of the day was Turtle Soup.
The place is decorated with items you would find in New Orleans.
Voodoo and witchcraft items, as well as werewolves, can be found throughout.
You place your order at the counter, and you get your drinks at the counter, as well.
Your food is brought out from the kitchen, and if you need a refill on your drink, you walk up to the counter and get your refill.
I would think that a lot of locals eat there because it had a neighborhood hole in the wall type of feeling. Very relaxed.
They have extra seating outside with TVs all around as well as heaters.
I had an oyster Rockefeller Po Boy.
It came with over 12 or more fried oysters, thick-sliced bacon, and spinach dip.
I say it is spinach dip because that is the way it tasted to me. It was spinach in a sauce, spread on the bread.
It was delicious.
My uncle had the Gumbo, and my nephew had the fried shrimp Po Boy.
I even ordered one extra Po Boy, for us to share, called the "Dong Phuong."
The Dong Phuong was super spicy and hot. It had jalapenos, with the seeds still in, all on the sandwich. Other than that, It was good. I usually like a little spice, but I would not be able to eat that whole sandwich because of the heat.
If I were in the mood for some gumbo or a good Po Boy, I would definitely go back.
If I lived close by, I could see myself eating there often with other locals.

The food was great and it's not expensive. I visited twice while I was in town and had the muffaletta on the first visit and a shrimp po' boy on the second. I also sampled two different gumbos. Everything was amazing. They also had a nice selection of beer. I liked the atmosphere and the neighborhood. You won't regret coming here.
Alex Demas
One of our favorite Louisiana restaurants outside of Louisiana. We stopped by on our way through Birmingham when we saw the name, and driving up and seeing the swamp chic was a great introduction. The food is truly fantastic. I got the boudin and shrimp poboy, and both were amazing. The French bread of the poboy was spot on, and make sure you get the remoulade sauce with it. They even got the pickles right. I also got the Sazerac, and it was a great choice too. Highly recommend!
Marc Davis
Awesome place! The decor is really cool and the food is great! I tried the Oysters Rockefeller Po' boy and it was delicious 😋 can't wait to come back for some gumbo! …
Mike Hiatt
I have been wanting to go to this place for a long time. I finally went and it did not disappoint. Cool photos of werewolves throughout. Rougaroux is a werewolf type creature. I had the Shrimp Po'boy, which was amazing. Probably the best I have ever had. Living on the Gulf Coast for many years, I have had quite a few. Will have to go back and try other menu items.
Darren Ice
Good flavors, decent portions, cozy eclectic locale. Shrimp Gumbo was really good. Bringing my guys back here for a Mardi Gras meal!!!
Dan Seigel
A new(ish) little gem of a New Orleans po boy shack, the Rougaroux has garnered a little attention among those that know where to look. The premises are quaint: a house converted to a small restaurant, walls covered in werewolf, macabre and cult movie pictures (the Bill Murray Caddyshack autograph is enviable). The menu makes it hard to pass on anything, so on the trip we tried the chicken and sausage gumbo, zombie bread, oysters Rockefeller po boy, and the crab boil potatoes. Unfortunately the bread pudding was sold out (come early!).
The gumbo was the best of the lot, with a really nice kick to it even before I added copious amounts of hot sauce. The oyster po boy was second, beautifully cooked to crunchy outside with tender inside (so often fried oysters are overcooked), and the ham is a nice touch. The zombie bread—a mix of crawfish, cheese, and spices mostly—was delicious but I recommend getting the 6”, as it’s a lot of Nawlins-esque pimento cheese (essentially what it reminded me of) to put down in one sitting. Not to be overlooked, the crab boil potatoes were delicious. Exactly what I expect out of a good seafood boil.
All in all, the Rougaroux doesn’t disappoint. We’d been to Nola two weeks before, and while it’s always hard to replicate the authenticity of the region elsewhere, Rougaroux does a fine job. The prices can be a little much, but consider the exorbitant rates of the crawfish truck at Avondale Brewery—it’s just not cheap around these parts.
jessica brasher
Unique atmosphere and awesome food! Sausage and crab broiled smashed potatoes were deliciously satisfying. Stole several bites of my husbands po boy and gumbo. We can't wait to go back!
Jeffrey Cowgill
Great place to grab some decent po-boys and red beans and rice. The place is a hole in the wall but that’s often the best of places. We shared a shrimp po-boy and an oyster po- boy along with some red beans and rice. All of it was delicious on authentic Leidenheimers bread from NOLA.
Staff was friendly knowledgeable and helped us find our lost cell phone.
We will def be back

Went for the first time yesterday. We got there at just the right time because there was a constant flow of folks as we were eating. You order at the bar, they give you a number and drinks, and then bring the food to your table. The inside is small; most of the seating is outside. I had the roast beef and it was so incredibly delicious. Loved it! My dad had oysters and he said they were great. As I previously noted, this place had a constant flow (it was a Saturday at lunch) and all of the employees were working hard, getting it done. Definitely recommend.
Yann De Moerloose
First time eating Creole/Cajun food for me. Hard to find in Europe. Delightful experience. Very cool location.
Margaret Adams
After reading good reviews we chose it for a birthday dinner. We were really expecting bigger flavors. The bread on the po-boys was very good/authentic, but overall we felt like the prices were not in line with the product. Good drink selection though. Paying for location.

Place was awesome. Had a great vibe. Lived in New Orleans for 3 years and this place was legit. Was happy to find it. Great Po' Boys. We had the Roast Beef and the Ferdie. Loved the pickels on the roast beef and the Ferdie was great... hard to describe; you just got to have it. Bought for me and my wife.
Robert Fulcher
Great food; wonderful, quirky atmosphere that is everything that I love about NOLA, and and awesome place for a quick lunch with friends to catch up—just make sure you get there earlier rather than later for lunch because they fill up inside. If the weather is nice, there are more places to sit outside. Enjoy!
Ginny Thomas
Absolutely wonderful addition to the Forest Park neighborhood. Best Cajun food outside of New Orleans, no contest. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent food, friendly service. Feels like a spot in the Bywater. Highly recommend.
Michael Ingram
Great atmosphere. Lots of TVs waiting for football season! Good food. I had the blackened catfish po boy and was very pleased. Highly recommended.
Duwayne Dale
True to life New Orleans style food and atmosphere. Good prices also.
traci Thomas
The food was DELICIOUS!! We had the bar-b-que shrimp po boy, boudin, fried green tomatoes, gumbo, muffaletta and frozen cocktails. I LOVED the vibe of the restaurant. The best way for me to describe it is boho, eclectic and woke. Good food, good drinks and great service. We will definitely come back next time we are in Birmingham. Now we know what a Rougaroux is 😁
Marnus Venter
Nice place to grab a nice Po’Boy and drinks. Casual atmosphere that makes it a relaxing no frills place to hang out with friends.
April L. Butler
As a former Metairie native, thank you for making sure you did New Orleans cuisine justice. We both had fantastic Po boys and they've perfected their roux for the gumbo, which was also amazing! The freshness of the ingredients is key in all NOLA food and it didn't disappoint. Add to it a fun atmosphere and drinks and you've got yourself a true Cajun experience. Looking forward to some return visits!
Jeremy Morgan
I love this place so much. Their Viet-Cajun sandwich is my go to. Beyond burger just like the burger of the day. Perfect location at that.
Jacques Marion
One of my favorite places in Birmingham. Seafood Gumbo was hearty n full of oysters n shrimp w/ nice spice. Cajun Bread w/"mud bugs" was delicious. Great service.
Leslie Calvert
If you love cajun food...this place is spectacular..boudin...shrimp po boys and gumbo are superb..and the NOLA atmosphere can't be beat.
Sonya Gardner
Oh my goodness, first time eating and enjoying this Cajun spot!!! I’ll be back every week, THE GUMBO IS THE BEST THANG since sliced bread!
Taeboo
Amazing gumbo!!! The sandwiches are sooooo good.. love the atmosphere...old house and garage vibe. Hidden spot.. loved it
Candi Kirkegard
Lived in Bham for 4 years, WHY have I NEVER been here 🤦♀️ Food is AMAZING. Thanks Micah for your friends/coworkers referring us. Definitely be back 🤤
Rennie Lindo
Great po'boys!! The food is really delicious and you get a lot for the price. Definitely hope to come back and try the gumbo.
David Gomes
Absolutely awesome food, cool decorations and a friendly staff makes this place one of my favorites in the south
Neil Adams
Best cajun food in town! Gumbo, shrimp, po-boys, boudin, you gotta try it all. Truly NOLA transplanted in Birmingham.
Drew Register
This place is so cool and quirky and the food was amazing. I got the vegetarian eggplant po’boy which was really tasty.
Braden Pittman
Authentic New Orleans poboys. Food is spot on, decor looks and feels straight out of NOLA, staff is very nice. Can't say enough good things.
Mike Kase
Authentic and delicious Cajun food.. the debris does Mother's in NOLA proud! Great atmosphere too.
miaminic05
Small home renovated into an inviting intimate restaurant space, small parking lot on site, creole cuisine, the gumbo was amazing & the shrimp po'boy was seasoned to perfection... highly recommend!!
Teakeyman
Being from south Louisiana I consider myself a food critic of all so called cajun and creole food that is found in the Birmingam area. After reading reviews that stated Rougaroux was the best roast beef po-boy sandwich in town I knew I had to try it. Was it the best I have had in the Birmingam area? Perhaps, if not close to it. I will say that a real Louisiana po-boy would NEVER have red onions and hot sauce. For people in the Birmingam area who don’t know better you can get away with things like that. All in all the flavor was good. The atmosphere is very upbeat and fun. The outside seating is most ideal if you want to have a conversation with your meal, as the music seemed to be a little overbearing. Rougaroux is as close as Birmingam can get to the Louisiana experience.
Nathan Phillips
Easily the best Cajun restaurant in Birmingham! Everything from the atmosphere, wonderful staff, and incredible food makes this place a gem!
Wayne Wright
Awesome, authentic Cajun comfort food!! Gumbo was lights out, Boudin was let's say the best I've ever had, crawfish poboy and collards just simply wonderful. Cool place, super bunch of folks. All I can say too is go see Rose Bud and have a good bowl of gumbo and cold beer.
Zach McAuley
A great addition to the neighborhood! The gumbo was very good, as was the po’ boy I had (turtle and veal meatball). The funky little house gives the place a pretty cool vibe and it was actually pretty crowded. The frozen jack and coke didn’t seem to skimp on the jack, either.
Daphne Brownlee
100% the best Cajun good in Birmingham! My favorite staple is their gumbo. My most memorable items from the speciality menu are the duck gumbo with collard greens and the crawfish egg rolls which danced in my mouth. Never disappointed.
taylor morgan
The most incredible Cajun food outside of New Orleans! Service is incredible and the decor and whole vibe is so much fun! Will absolutely be stopping here every time I’m in the Birmingham area!!
Max Jay Weston
Funky little restaurant in a trendy part of town. The shrimp pool was excellent and the bread pudding was the best we've ever had. The only disappointment was the wine prices; OUCH, definitely "price gouging!" A meal for four consisting of 4 poboys and 4 sides and a bread pudding was over 200.00, primarily because of 8 glasses of wine and 3 beers. Alcohol is how restaurants make their money, but their prices are over the top.
kylred
We had lunch here and sat outside. It was really nice in the shade. Cool atmosphere and music. I had the smoked pork po boy and the potato salad. Both were awesome. The shrimp po boy was good too.
Aaron Key
I've been twice recently. The food, service, and atmosphere are unmatched. Great location around a million things to do. It really invokes an easy going, sort of mid-vacation feel. Where you are really just relaxed, you've had a few drinks, and you realize life is pretty damn good.
Taylor Sherer
My wife got the measures gumbo ever and I got a special burger of the week which was roast gravy, brisket patty, arugula, and white cheese curds. I added bacon too it, because you can't go wrong with bacon, and it was delicious. I will be back next week for sure, very reasonably priced for the quality of the food!
Jennifer Locke
We stopped in for lunch and it was very good. Service was fast.
Tint Pro
Such a unique setting, the food is fantastic. Can’t wait to go back and try something else.
Milea Hanner
Everything here was ridiculously delicious! So very New Orleans.
Ron Ponyicky
Had the surf and turf po boy which was huge and delicious. Cool spot.
michael barnhill
Excellent little joint.
Their food is definitely made with soul.
Have spent many a food trips thru New Orleans. This joint feels very authentic.
Gumbo was really good
Blackened catfish PoBoy was excellent
Their Boudain was very good, especially with their creole mustard dip
The Veit Cajun Seafood Poboy was mediocre
The Mufalatta plenty good....well within the realm of an average Mufalatta from New Orleans
Adam Gerrell
Very good service, very good food. Bread pudding was a smooth 10/10
Zachary Hoffman
Rougaroux is a Cajun joint specializing in poboys and gumbo wizardry.
An absolute gem of a restaurant and could not be a good happier that they're here. Give them a try!
Luan Brashaw
Always fun! Always fantastic! Rougaroux always delivers on tasty food, great service, cold beers, and a good time! Hang out inside or out!
Natalie Babcock
The Rougaroux has a fun atmosphere and is tucked away in a cozy neighborhood. Good food and friendly service!
scott spivey
Cool place with a peculiar funky vibe that reminds you of NOLA. Gumbo is terrific, as is their po-boys. Menu is not very big, but everything I have had from it is good. Small place-just a few seats inside, most are outside on a porch. Well worth a visit if you are in the area
Stephen Anderson
The absolute best poboy in the city. Everything here is authentic, every single thing the 3 times I've been is delicious. Everyone is friendly, absolute great lunch or dinner spot. You won't find real cajun food as flavor packed anywhere else in Birmingham.
Kenyona Johnson
I ate here yesterday for the first time with high expectations. They exceeded that; guess that's why I am back again today.
The dong phuong is great!!!!
Clint Jones
Expensive but very good quality Cajun food. Everything is always good. The menu is limited, but the ingredients are all fresh and sourced well. The pulled pork boudain is out of this world good if you like boudain. The succotash is only 5 bucks and it's enough to share as a side with someone else. It's very good. Bottom line, if you appreciate New Orleans style Cajun food and don't mind paying a bit extra for fresh ingredients and well-prepared food, then you'll love this place. And if you drink beer.
But if you're looking for more "value" for food, this isn't gonna be your cup of tea.
Nicholas Toth
Great food, great atmosphere, and the best people. The head chef is an artist of the highest caliber. The man at the bar was an absolute legend, and I think we may have even caught a glimpse of a real life Rougaroux! Jambalaya was divine. Shrimp dip was fantastic. Bread pudding was too DIE for. Honestly there was not one menu item that we ordered that was not cooked perfectly and authentic. Reminds you of being in the bayou on a shrimp boat. I will definitely be returning and you have to try this place. I wish I could give this place a six star rating out of five. Oh and remember to look out for any monsters lurking around in the shadows!!
Shannon Turnbull
We enjoyed our meal here. Everything was excellent especially the bread pudding here.
Troy Segreaves
This is one of those really unique places you go to on a whim and end up telling all your friends about.
Between the food and the atmosphere there was nothing I didn't enjoy. I ended up ordering the Buffalo Po'boy and a cup of gumbo. Both fantastic.
I could go on, but I'd end up repeating myself. If you're in Birmingham and you're not sure where to eat, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.
Allie
So so good. They give you a huge amount of food and it's incredibly tasty. Plus the atmosphere of the place is nearly half the fun. It's quirky and it's entertaining in it's own right. They currently offer delta8 seltzers too, which is awesome and unique as well.
Mark Martin
Authentic New Orleans everything, even down to the bartender’s humor. Love it and reminds me of home.
David Simmons
Always have a great meal and experience here. The food has never disappointed and I reccomend any cajun staples you see on the menu. Finish with a bread pudding.
michael richardson
A groovy little Cajun shack with tons of personality and some nice Louisiana themed dishes. The flavors are righteous, the food is hot and served swiftly. If you can't be in NOLA,you can just come here.
Jeff Young
Great. Love the atmosphere. Reminds me of Charleston, New Orleans. An escape from Birmingham. And the food is very good.
Dana Thomas
This place is awesome! The best fried shrimp poboy I've ever had. The bread is so soft and fresh, the gumbo is outstanding, and the staff is super friendly.
Mark Sherer
Met a good friend here and it was absolutely fantastic! Molly the bartender is wonderfully sweet, the drinks were delicious, and the food was great. Had a bbq shrimp Po boy and wow it was fantastic! Highly recommend
Jeremy (Momsboy32)
Great food in an eclectic place. Come hungry because you will get a lot of food
Matt DeBlaey
The food was great, the place was a bit rough just like you would find around New Orleans. The food items were a la cart so that bill got high quick, so watch for that. Plus the beers were wildly different priced. $9 for a bottle of Abita is a little out of line anywhere. I might come back, but it may be cheaper to drive to New Orleans and buy lunch.
Tasha McClellan
Nice little place, very reminiscent of a small New Orleans cafe'. You can get a cup or bowl of fresh seafood gumbo, a quarter, half, or whole mufeletta on real Gambino bread, an Abita root beer, among many other tasty offerings.
jewel cooper
I'm originally from New Orleans & decided to try this place today. I ordered the shrimp po boy & white chocolate bread pudding, it was great! It's so nice to know when I'm missing legit New Orleans style food, this place can help fill the void.
Mrs. E GF
The food was super fresh, HUGE portions and amazing
Ms. Griggs
I will definitely say this is the closest thing to authentic you are going to get in Birmingham because everything I have tried is watered down and white washed. But not enough sausage or shrimp. I had 1 shrimp maybe 3 sausage but the overall flavor was authentic and roux was thick like real new Orleans gumbo.......
p fritts
Went here with some friends and had never heard of it before. Glad they asked us out.
Eva Knapp
Delicious poboys and daquiris, check their Facebook page for their weekend specials.Their poboy bread is legit leidenheimer bread from Nola. Fun place to dine in on the patio but they also have great take out service.
M D
2 year update: They have only gotten better with time! So happy to have such authentic Louisiana food so close to home.
Amazing! Authentic Cajun cuisine. Only one in Birmingham that truly serves Cajun. Looking forward to my next visit!
Kat Lombo
Good food, service wasn't my favorite. The cashier took several phone calls during taking our order and other small things. Price for 4 sandwiches, 2 soups, 4 shots was like $130. Felt high.
Bill Gaylor
Great food, but kinda pricey for a sandwich
S Thompson
Great Cajun food! Coolest atmosphere! Our first time last Friday night. We had Oyster Rockefeller Po'Boy, Chicken w/ Pickled Jalepeno Po'Boy, Gumbo and Boudin. Absolutely the best!! We will be regulars. Have to try everything on the menu.
Jake Thornton
Great food, great staff
Joye Hehn
We dined with friends and sampled many different entrees and sides. All were fresh and delicious!! The seafood gumbo was amazing- shrimp, oysters, and okra! Oh, my! The bread was crunchy on the outside and tender inside. So Much Tasty Goodness!!! Truly a hidden gem!
Kim Alexander
Really enjoyed our meal!
megan higgins
First time going and everyone was so nice. Food was amazing. Will definitely be back!
Vanessa Tate Finney
Rougaroux is one of the best places to eat in Avondale! Their menu is shall, but everything is incredible! The daily specials are always a knock out. And always get at least a cup of gumbo, you won't regret it!
Nicolas Aguila-Mandich
100% recommend! In a nice little nook of the city also

LOVE THIS PLACE. You can close your eyes, point at the menu, and whatever they bring will be on point. Beef debris poboy is chef's kiss*
Johnny Lee
Great food. Nice people. Beware of the Rougaroux!
Bambi Darnell
First , the atmosphere is perfect. So cute , very French quarter like. The poboys are perfection. The gumbo is heavenly. The show stopper was the bread pudding . Oh my ..
Life changing. Great service at the counter. We will definitely be back.
Leslie Focsa
I have been here three times and the food has always been good. However they appear to have changed their menu between my second and third visit. I believe that now they only offer one sandwich size and different side options (no more fries). This change didn't seem to impact the food quality, but I feel like the price point is higher. We paid around $50 for two sandwiches, two sides and two drinks. That is really more than I want to pay to eat food off of a plastic tray. Unsure if I will return.
Flyaway Soul
Took some friends there the other day for some authentic New Orleans cuisine and everyone LOVED it. I would definitely recomend to anyone who wants some good gumbo. The bread pudding was divine (they don't put raisins in it, hallelujah) and their selection of hot sauces was both hilarious and thorough.
Tys Greene
Every time we end up at our neighborhood version of New Orleans, we find the gumbo hard to resist. And then there are the sandwiches, with choices of authentic debris (roast beef), shrimp and more. Inside seating is cozy, with decor to match the cuisine. Or you can go outside and get a closeup view of the rougarou (werewolf) that gives the place its name. It’s easy to order at the bar and your food is delivered, wherever you choose to sit.
Wil Johnson
Loved the food here. It feels like this restaurant is in a different city by the feel of it. Went with 3 people and everyone got something different and loved it. I got the Rockefeller Fried Oyster Po Boy and it was excellent. My wife got the Surf and Turf which I tried and it was even better so I will probably order that one next time. Gumbo was good as well. Can’t wait to go back. They also have jack and coke slushy’s.
Tim Boling
What a unique place! Honestly almost missed it when looking for it! The food was wonderful. Give it a try if you are looking for something different.
Lexii Jackson
The Rougaroux is a vibeeeeeee. A slice of cajun Heaven just waiting on you to come in and give it a try. I started my gfs weekend extravaganza here and I would do it over again a million times. We arrived when they opened, parked on the street and walked over to allow our experience to begin. I love their outdoor eating area set up. A few tables, gravel, tvs, covered, little pops of decoration everywhere as expected. You go inside where you find a welcoming staff, more decor and the best welcoming sign (forgive me for not having pictures). Take a look at the menu, order at the bar, take your number flag and claim your table while you await your delicious meal. We ended up sitting at the bar where we could talk Molly's ears off. Molly is the GM and she truly set the tone for our visit. Bursting with personality and she makes you feel like part of her Rougaroux family. We ordered a bowl of gumbo, 2 boudin links, a surf n turf po boy and my gf got a frozen watermelon jolly rancher margarita. The gumbo was hearty, added some hot sauce and crackers because why not? Yum! Links were bomb and the po boy was delicious. That bread is sinful in the best way possible. If we could barter to get into Heaven I'd use their bread as my offering. My gf loved her marg as well. We will definitely be back and it will be sooner then later. Get ready to add us to the list of regulars. Check them out. You won't be disappointed!
Walker Cole
Easily one of the best places to eat in Birmingham.
Kurt Pollack
Atmosphere and vibe was super cool. Definitely has the new orleans effect. Good selection on the menu, though I wish there was an option to do a half and half of any of the poboy options.
Oyster Rockefeller poboy and browned brussel sprouts were delicious. The bread was fantastic.
Glen White
It's a great hidden spot, food was great and good prices
Sydnie Chambers
We’ve been here twice now, and both times the food has been great. The gumbo is super smokey, which is unique - very delicious. My only complaint is that everything is over priced. We got two po boys and a bowl of gumbo and two drinks ... $45. It was good, but not $45 good.
Edward Greer
Bring a New Orleans native I'm very picky. This place is definitely a taste of home. Poboy was wonderful, gumbo was on point, all was good. Highly recommend.
Kevin Middleton
Girlfriend brought me here for the first time and I am BLOWN away. Perfect poyboy, tender fried shrimp seasoned amazingly, crunchy yet super cloud like French bread. Remoulade was super traditional and tasted fantastic. The brisket poutine was REALLY good as well. Will definitely be back this week and again and again! Birmingham is LUCKY to have this spot.
Kathy Garner
Oh my gosh!! Perfection in casual dining with something like 40 beers to choose from. A cross between a sports bar and New Orleans themed cafe. I have reviewed many restaurants, and this is probably the best review I've ever given one. There's a reason for that. Total dressed-down comfort with Heavenly Cajun classic food. I would go there every day if I could.
Nikki E
Food was great if you're looking for true New Orleans gumbo and po boys. Fries were really good and remoulade delicious.
But guys, clean the place. The dirt and grime on the window sills were disgusting, everything on the table sticky/dirty, napkin dispenser coated with dust. Scares me in terms of the kitchen.
It's a shame because the food was everything you'd hope for at lunch and their dinner menu looks wonderful as well.
Alexander Stanley
Meals came out quick.. and had some love in them for real.. gumbo was really good.. and the different choices of sandwiches had something for everybody..
Tim Sanders
Do NOT have the boudin balls! They don't taste like any boudin I've ever had and that's not a good thing! Great atmosphere though. Very New Orleans-like. Next time I'll try a po boy. I've heard that that's their specialty.
Amanda Overby
Be wary of the tattooed girl that works the counter the and runs out the food. She like all of us has good days and bad. However, her bad days tend to outweigh her good and she doesn’t hesitate to be very rude and reflect whatever it is going on with her to the customers. She has offended many patrons and friends I have brought to dine here bc I do love this place, just know it’s a gamble for service with that one.
Jay Bearden
Gumbo was RIDICULOUS!!! Everything I had was delicious. Cajun fries, red beans n rice, meatball poboy. Really cool vibe and atmosphere.
angie hancock
The place has less than 10 tables. We walked in and had to guess that we seat ourselves. Menu's we got ourselves when we saw another customer get them off out of a holder on the wall. My food came on a piece of paper on a cafeteria tray. Food was good and the bartender was nice. I would say this is a bar with food not a restaurant or place to go have a sit down meal.
david silvernail
Excellent Food. Had the gumbo, red beans and rice and the Viet shrimp po boy. Desert was outstanding as well. Will go out of our way to come back! : )
Kimberly Hooks
Outstanding food, as good as anything I've had in New Orleans. I especially love the bread they use for their poboys. Great old house in a Forest Park makes for a cool environment. This is a must-try restaurant!
Macon Plans
THE BOMB DIGGITY!!! As close to Cajun/Creole as you can possibly get in Alabama!!!
Brent Rickman
Food was good! House remoulade sauce and fried shrimp po-boy was yum. If you are expecting an actual BBQ taste with the BBQ shrimp, think again. It is hard to describe but tasty. My friend didn't mind trying the fried shrimp with BBQ sauce instead of the grilled shrimp. Bowl of gumbo was good and filling. Sweet tea tastes different. Maybe the brand. Next time, we will try the bread pudding. Laissez les bon temps rouler.
John Fritz
Unfortunately I live about 25 mins from the restaurant, so when I got my order (which was ready in a very short time!!!), by the time I got home the oyster po' boy I ordered was a bit soggy and cool. Flavor was great and the gumbo was excellent.
June Pridmore
This Place is phenomenal! You will never leave hungry. And the quality the food is excellent! The delivery was right on time and the order was perfect. I will definitely order from them again!
Wes Sullivan
Great Cajun food… The po boys are large and the platters have unique items… The surroundings are a little creepy but kind of expected for a Cajun place. I do like the fact that it’s in a random house downtown. Kind of unique
M Dane
Awesome food and excellent service. I had the BBQ shrimp and wife had Oysters Rockefeller.
Mandy Williams
This is my favorite creole restaurant in Birmingham. My go-to is the Shrimp Po-Boy with a side of Seafood Gumbo. Their bread is the best: crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The atmosphere is also fun; highly recommend!
Chris Warner
Too expensive. Food was good, I liked it, bro liked it, girls couldn't understand the menu at all. They both hated their food, a hundred dollars down the drain. Prices blindsided us because we were expecting hole-in-the-wall New Orleans prices, not petty taxation. Guess we just get to eat cheap for the next week... thanks. This restaurant will not survive Gen Z.
Olivia Ja
2 nd visit and will back for more. Very tasteful Cajun food, priced good, authentic setting.
alicia perkins
Ferdi Special poboy was fantastic! Chicken and sausage gumbo was also great. The bread pudding is some of the best I’ve had (including what you would find in New Orleans). The theme and ambience of the place is quirky and fun. I will definitely be back here regularly!
Lance Moore
This place is a hidden treasure in Birmingham. They have the best po-boys served on bread shipped in from New Orleans. The gumbo is delicious and when they have a special you should try it, I've never been disappointed.
Jack McDaniel
The coolest hole in the wall in Birmingham that feels like you’ve been dropped in a restaurant in New Orleans. Highly recommend if you want a great atmosphere and food!!
Tim Morgan
Wow Been looking for this kind of Cajun for awhile. Blackened catfish poboy and some Gumbo. Finished off with bread pudding.
Lunch during the week is the time to go or be prepared to wait!!!!
Mickey Berry
Super-casual place right out of New Orleans. It’s so small that we accidentally entered thru the kitchen. I can’t say enough good things about this little spot. If you’re a foodie, or just want a cool, casual place to hang out and have something to eat or drink, come to this little neighborhood favorite! Can’t wait to go again!
Max Christ
Great place to sit back and enjoy a drink and Po'boy. Real bayou vibe that makes you feel like you're somewhere in Louisiana.
Ryan Preskitt
The entire place feels as if it was transplanted to Birmingham from New Orleans, from the architecture and decorations to the menu. The po boys are the best I've had, with the oysters rockefeller one deserving special mention. It is pricey, but entirely worth it.
Brad Thomas
Great atmosphere and beverage choices. Needs a little more work to touch authentiç New Orleans food. I'd go back to try again.
Adria Wesson
My fiancé and I tried The Rougaroux for the first time tonight and we absolutely loved it! The food was amazing, the gumbo tasted just like gumbo I've had in New Orleans, and the Jambalaya was a 10/10! I highly recommend trying them if you are ever in the area!
Ken Stall
Man!!! My sister from another mother is the GM! But anyways great food great place great staff! You will not be disappointed. The food is amazing and Molly and the staff are wonderful. Please go visit! Now!
Gentry Palmer
Shrimp was amazing $15 for probably a pound
James Lloyd
Been here 3 times now. It is a great, gourmet NOLA style po-boy and gumbo place. Has beer and boozie slushies. Gumbo is outstanding. Two styles - seafood and chicken. Home made boudin for the Cajun sausage folks. Great gourmet takes on some standards such as an Oysters Rockefeller Po-boy. Give it a try!
Emily Ness
Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food! I got half a fried catfish po'boy, it was very filling and the fish was perfectly fried . I particularly enjoyed the bread- it had a wonderful crispy crust with an airy interior. I wish all restaurants used this bread! Final note on the food, if available, everyone should try the boudin. I hadn't tried boudin before and I was blown away, it was very hearty and rich!
I loved the decorations- there's a werewolf on the front porch and the inside is full of really cool posters, signs, flags, etc. Gives off a very welcoming vibe. All in all I couldn't be happier- will definitely be back!
Kaitlin Slattery
Thank goodness for Rougaroux and their continuous supply of Louisiana staples. Baby Harrison and I both routinely get their seafood gumbo! My personal favorite is the fried chicken po-boy with spicy remoulade and pickled okra with some garlicky fries. Their white chocolate bread pudding is also a perfect pick-me-up when your craving something sweet with great flavor. The decor is purposefully tacky and feels like some odd Pirates of the Caribbean knock off, but they wouldn't have it any other way. Love this place.
Hannah George
Phenomenal experience!! Parking is the only kicker, but that's typical of Avondale. The food came out fast, the service was great, and the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy, the Turtle and Veal Meatball Po' Boy, and the daily special boudin was GREAT!!! It's a must-visit for fans of New Orleans food!!
Latty Rob
If you are looking for some authentic cajun cuisine this is the place to take your appetite. Rougaroux is the real deal.
Our group ordered shrimp and crawfish poboy, red beans and rice, gumbo, and the BBQ shrimp poboy. Everything was amazing. Fresh seafood and the best oysters I've eaten in a while.
This family friendly fun restaurant is open with limited indoor seating and plenty of shaded cool outdoor seating.
John Spence
Very nice. Tried the blackened catfish and shrimp gumbo. Simple menu that hits all the Cajun hot spots. Large selection of Louisiana beers.
Amy Wyatt
I'm from south Louisiana. Your food reminded me of home! So yummy 😋 loved everything about it. My new favorite place to eat in bham …
Drew
A delicious little slice of New Orleans in Forrest Park! They were going for an authentic hole-in-the-wall in the French Quarter vibe, and I think they did a good job with it. Been to plenty of places in New Orleans that looked just like it. But most importantly, the food is very good! I had a half roast beef po boy and a cup of gumbo. Both were tasty, and got out to my table fast. Highly recomend this place.
Kristi Pruitt
I was born in New Orleans and grew up in South Louisiana with one foot in the Gulf of Mexico. The food at Rougaroo, in particular the Gumbo and the Fried Shrimp Poboy, are as good and authentic as served anywhere back home. And, no, people shouldn’t come here expecting to find a vegetarian menu - “fried” is the game here. We did eat vegetables in Louisiana but most were fried or sautéed in bacon fat. Try. It. If you like Louisiana food you will not be disappointed.
Derrick Lewis
The Rougaroux is one of the best Cajun spots in all of Birmingham! Every time we've been, it has been fresh and delicious, and the staff is wonderful and friendly! The Oyster Rockafeller poboy is unbelievable, their gumbo is Rich and delicious, and their new meat pies are out of this world! Plus, they open a little earlier now, so it's even easier to go and get their awesome food! Love this place!
Rita Kennedy
The food was excellent. The gumbo cooked perfectly with shrimp and oysters. I had chicken livers which is very difficult to find and it is a dish that is usually very good or bad. These melted in your mouth. They are served on bread as a po boy, but I took them off bread and had a side of their cole slaw which was a healthy dish made with red peppers and olive oil. This is just what Forest Park needed, a restaurant that serves food of a different culture for a change, and delicious as well. You do order at the counter but they bring it to you with the drinks and whatever else you need. Servers are friendly and service was fast .
Michael B
Pretty good shrimp Po boy for being outside of NOLA. Gumbo and red beans were entirely tasteless and disappointing.
Brent Dupuy
Cozy and soulful. This is not a large restaurant but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for with atmosphere, flavor and friendliness. My wife and I came for dinner on a weeknight and we were able to order and get a table right away. I ordered the catfish poboy with pork boudin and my wife ordered a cup of gumbo (with shrimp and oysters) and a half shrimp poboy.
The food was prepared quickly (about 10 minutes or less) and came out as ordered. I found the boudin to have just the right amount of spice to tingle your taste buds but not enough to make your nose run. The catfish poboy was also excellent with a crunchy, but flaky bun.
Overall, we were definitely pleased with our experience and will be back again.
Jim Hooker
The food is great - but if you're wearing hearing aids - they care less about you than providing music for their employees while you're eating your lunch!
Nick Simmons
Words can't explain how amazing this place is, from the decor to the food. Small interior with some outside seating as well. The food is better than most food I've eaten *in Louisiana*. I'll be back, repeatedly. I'd go back tomorrow if it wasn't Sunday.
Patrick Bowden
Great experience! Had lunch there on a... Friday.. Looked like we beat the rush getting there 11:15ish . The oysters rockafeller po boy was amazing, but the name was misleading. It was actually a fried oyster sandwich. Either way it was really good, and I will be going back.
J.R. will1023
It was very good.. I would eat there again
Joshua Gilmer
Can you ever go wrong with Cajun cuisine? The po' boys here are delicious, and order just a half, unless you want leftovers—they are ginormous. The most memorable item on the menu has to be the bread pudding; it was cooked to the perfect consistency. Just don't look up Rougarou mythology and you'll do quite fine here.
L. Warren Munroe
Great poboy bread, fresh shrimp, so....yummy poboy. I am not a fan of hot seasonings so accomodations were made for me although the barkeep was impudent about leaving off the hot and/or highly seasoned stuff. Two of us split the huge poboy. Fries were small and crunchy while I like big and not crunchy but they were good. I left off the garlic and creole seasoning. I will def be back for an oyster poboy. Being an ex-NOLA resident, it's good to get authentic in Bham.
Brian Gunn
One of the most authentic Po-Boys in Birmingham.
Gloria Elcock
Want something different - here's your place...Positively great food, OMG, the seasonings are authentically Cajun with large portion size for the prices... we had the Boudin, a shrimp Poboy, & the Poutine on sweet bread, please room to include the bread pudding afterwards.
Be sure to goggle the address since it is not directly in the line of site if you are not familiar with the area...truly worth the visit.
Laura Cummings
Been here twice - first time 11/19 (in The Before Time), next 8/20. Small amount of inside seating with much more covered patio space. The Po Boys are great. The shrimp is the biggest I’ve seen. I always go for the specials, so those are never on the menu. Most recently it was a really juicy burger. I’m posting their current menu, because I couldn’t find anything newer than 1 year.
Autumn Bonds
Great little place. Yummy food!!
Zak Kimes
Fantastic atmosphere and great food!
Benjamin Yim
My wife and I ordered two different Po’Boys. Both were on point and delicious. We knew fried oysters would be good but Viet Cajun Shrimp was superb. I recommend it to anyone who loves shrimp.
Tim Suggs
The amazing food saved the trip! Wife wanted to try someplace "new" and this is practically in our backyard, so after figuring out where the correct parking area was (signs would be a good idea), the door on the parking area side points you to go around (are we parked in the right area??? Will we have a boot on our car, or worse, towed, you don't want your dinners having to think about these things folks). Yeah, the "entrance" is 180° opposite the parking, on the other side of the house.
Once inside, it was warm, too warm to enjoy a meal. Sweat and oysters? I think not. We came in, looked around, decided on our table, someone finally says "hi", the bartender, after our backs were to her and walking to our table. My wife heads for the restroom, and for the next 15, slowly ticking minutes, I sit, with no one saying a word to me. Plenty of people, wait staff and others that appear to work there are walking right by me/us. No one says a word. We've looked the menu over front to back quite a few times now, my wife is now fanning herself with her menu at this point. Suddenly, the bartender says "just order at the bar when y'all are ready...".
Well... at least we now know how to get some of the food others have raved about in other media forms. Like their "Garlic fries", they looked so good in the pictures on Rougaroux's own website, I had to have some! Yeah, no...
When my wife ordered, the bartender told her that they don't serve fries. Alrighty! At least we placed our order (again... SIGNS would go a long way folks, a long way!). My wife ordered the Muffuletta with some red beans and rice, and I got a whole Fried Oyster Po' Boy.
So far, we're really not impressed. We're probably at a 2, out of 10 right now. They are making us work way too hard to give them our money! We're discussing all of the next likely "negative" things that we could possibly face in our attempt at dining for an early, mid week dinner. Things like "gonna take forever", gonna be cold when it gets here", "won't be cooked right", etc. All of the typical areas restaurants and their management and staff fail at over and over.
The food was AWESOME! Fast, about 8 min from when we ordered and I had 12 of the most beautifully arranged and perfectly cooked fried oysters sitting atop super fresh sub roll, crispy green lettuce, bright red tomatoe slices and a nice, creamy mayonnaise. I couldn't stop one the first oyster hit my pie hole! I told my wife to get her a couple of oysters now, before I ate them all and then keep her hands away or is stick a dirty fork in her hand.
Somewhere between oyster number 6/7... I had to take a break, so I grabbed her muffuletta she'd been happily munching on and took a big bite. Not really my flavors, BUT, it was EASY to tell that everything on it was fresh and high quality meats. I even snuck a spoonful of her red beans and rice which were very tasty, until the heat from some unknown ingredient made me regret my choice. We told them that I don't do "heat" of any type, and they kept everything away from my delicious Oysters. And this was my wife's food anyway and she likes a little hot so she was ok with it.
All in all, they get a 10 for the food, and a 0 for the service and "ambiance". Don't even try getting interested in any of the TV's they have mounted almost touching the ceiling, after 5 min, you start to get dizzy from looking up at such an extreme angle... OK, let's see... a 10 on the food, and a nought on the rest, looks like an overall score of... 5. Will we be back??? Probably, it's hard to find good food, so we'll hope for a better "experience" next time!
Lee Reese
To help newbies out, you order your food at the bar, take a number and go sit down.
Atmosphere is sort of cool. Cajun/Creole vibes and music. Old converted house. Interesting.
Service is ok once you figure out the way it works.
Food is pretty good. I had the crawfish pie which was mediocre. The boudin was spot on!
Beer selection suits me perfectly, but I like Abita!
Petra Leonard
First time here but definitely not my last. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better.
Jared De Soto
Nondescript location, if you are not looking for it you could definitely miss it. Plenty of parking. Great Oyster poboy and gumbo. Very flavorful and they're not skimpy on portions. Definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area.
Emily Oppmann
So delicious!! The surf n turf was to die for.
Pat Jones
I walked up to this place and instantly felt like I was in New Orleans minus the hand grenades! I tried a few different things on the menu and they were all OUTSTANDING!!! The smoked eggplant dip just puts you in a completely different place! The oyster rockerfeller po boy was a very unexpected treat and the jambalaya boudain was interesting but delecious none the less. The place deffdefinigets my stamp of approval and they will definitely be visited again!
Michael Roosa
Chicken livers poboy was fantastic. Got beer selection and good casual service.
Michelle Bate
This is go to spot downtown. The surf and turf po boy with homemade pickles is the best sandwich I have had in years. I try to have it at least twice a month.
J Lohman
We had a craving for a muffalotta and found The Rougaroux online. We were excited to go once seeing the online pictures and being reminded of New Orleans. We went today and were not disappointed. We had the quarter muffalotta, gumbo, and most delicious boudin. WE WILL BE BACK WHEN IN BIRMINGHAM. Y'all are AMAZING!
Jared G. Wood
Had the oyster Rockefeller po boy...it was delicious
Marsha Brown
The Rougaroux just updated their menu. I’ve been a regular for awhile but you MUST try the braised pork shank with greens and fried jambalaya! This little local hangout is right down the street from my house, fast and friendly service as well as a full bar. Cheers!
Robert Fisher
Excellent service, good portions, and fantastic food. 11/10. My wife had a margarita, and informed me that it was "outstanding". I can't recommend this place enough.
Dustin Lisenby
The food is fantabulous. I had the turtle and veal poboy and it was absolutely worth putting in my mouth. The only issue I had with the place is that seating was very limited, but they're happy to do to-go orders.
Shane
Good food and nice atmosphere. Little resturaunt with a New Orleans feel. Food is a little on the pricey side but worth it. Definitely wouldn't let that scare me from going back!
Amaya Graham
It was pretty good. I loved the fries.
Valerie Burton
Why did I wait so long to eat at this NOLA knockoff in the neighborhood?! The red beans n rice are delicious. The the roast beef debris po boy was fantastic.
David Young
This place is delish! Went there for lunch and I had the fried shrimp poo boy and the gumbo. Fresh, hot, little spicy. Food took maybe 8 minutes... very reasonable.
David Fox
Nice rotation of specialty items that are not in many places in Birmingham.
Halley Cotton
So delicious you’ll drive all the way out to see your momma just so you can slap her. Heckin heck this place is tasty. Best bread pudding in Bham, and I’ve had a lot of bread pudding. Trust me on this...
Cody Mitchell
Chill atmosphere, great drink selection that is related to the cajun theme, and one of the best catfish po'boy's I've ever had! 10/10
c l (Pooka)
Had the Moscow mule slushie and the shrimp poboy. Both were amazing. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.
William Bruton
The food is fabulous.but the service was bad. The waiter (1 in the whole place) was to busy too get us a beer. Since you have to wait in line to order, it wasn't feasible to stand in the line all over again just to get a beer. It is really a shame that they can't hire another server.
Lee Winnige
Small, casual restaurant with great food. Specialties are New Orleans poboys, boudin sausage and gumbo.
Jeffrey Johnson
Good is authentic Cajun and delicious. It feels so much like you are down in the Bayou. Po-boys are amazing and huge!
Freeman Presson
I finally got back here after some online chat got me excited about gumbo and boudin. I had one link of boudin and a bowl of gumbo, and they were heavenly. Also, there's Crystal hot sauce on every table, which shows good taste. You get Mawmaw'n dem to carry you, T-baw, and ya girlfrens down there. You can even sit outside if you get there first. Y'all pass a good time, I garontee.
Brandi Roberts
It was so good and everyone was so nice! It’s the closer to New Orleans style
Good I’ve. Wen ti since I lived in New Orleans. .
Jerry Moody
Really a cool atmosphere good music playing. Food was well worth the visit. Staff was very friendly and fast. All around a good experience.
B.Bennett Walls
Cool place. Food is good and it's cool to escape Alabama into a New Orleans theme for a lil while. Bartender was very cool and I'm def going back.
Enemy
The brisket burger was extremely juicy and good and the the BBQ shrimp poboy was
Delicious
Ernest Walker
I had the shrimp po boy and a sausage link. Both were delicious, and The Rougaroux is not stingy on the shrimp. A must see experience when Creole meets the Magic City
Patience “P” Sterling
THE BEST GUMBO IN TOWN HANDS DOWN! Great service. Comfy atmosphere. Good frozen drinks. Love it! Will be back 100%
Coy Naugle
Literally indescribable. Good, GREAT, above-and-beyond kind of food and atmosphere! Loved it, a must-see for Birmingham!
sean williamson
The po'boy bread is the key to a good po'boy and these guys have it nailed down. Gumbo was good, had plenty of seafood. Boudain had an amazing flavor and not mush.
Duke Bladwin
A real Touch of New Orleans just off Claremont 'round back of that yoga place... Excellent po'boys, good gumbo, in a NOLA sidestreet "glad you found this place" atmosphere. - what more can anyone ask?
Phil Pearson
I'm so glad this place is in Birmingham. Real deal Leindenheimer bread for po boys, daily gumbos and house made boudin, definitely a not to miss spot!
Dennis Calvert
First time there and loved the food! We will be back
Dave Pate
This place serves such great gumbo, sandwiches and drinks. Easy choice. Was in and out in less time than I waited for a table at that place across the parking lot.
Barbara Juneau
Excellent, from a native of New Orleans, the shrimp po-boy was a real, authentic treat. Even had a Barq's root beer to go with it🌟 …
Jared Nix
A little expensive but pretty good
Philip Alexander
I can't say enough about this place the food is always great I eat here once or twice a week. From the decor to the atmosphere its an experience in itself.
Yessenia Covarrubias
I love this place! The gumbo is to die for and those delicious po'boy's always leave me wanting to come back.
T 1Alabama
Great food and atmosphere.
Jake Huggart
Great service and excellent food. The po-boys and muffaletta are the best around. Even better than most I've had in New Orleans.
Timothy Smith
Normally quite good gumbo was exceptional my shrimp poboy was too salty.
wesley hutchins
Fist time trying this place it was FANTASTIC!
John Tipper
The gumbo was quite good. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Plan on returning.
Samantha Hall
Real busy on a Saturday night, delicious boudin. Not my favorite muffaletta ever, but the po boys are good.
Nicole Herzog
Delicious food and spot on ambiance! We tried everything and highly recommend! Loved it. Felt like a night in N.O.
Terri Goode Parker
I almost don’t want to rate this place... because I feel like it’s our secret hole-in-the-wall. What if people find out about this place? Will we have to share our wonderfully, messy roast beef debris poboys with the world?
I’ll take that chance
Brice Lambert
great spot for poboys and gumbo. play solid music. few seats but laid back, comfortable atmosphere
Terri Guy
I try to go when I'm in town, the food is delicious and the gumbo is 5star
Kathryn Drago
A little slice of NOLA right in BHM. The poboys are top notch. Outdoor seating is perfect.
Dustin Wren
The food was absolutely outstanding. Great price and the atmosphere was very cool
Dachozan One (Dream)

Loved the vibe of this place. The people working here were really nice and everything was good but was surprised at just how good the boudin was.
P A Pennington
Disappointing. I keep looking for a place that can compare to Doodles (the one in Fultondale that was destroyed in the 2011 tornado).. and this place was ok, but too crowded and just not that good. The muffaletta was cold in the middle.

Pleasant hole in the wall with fun atmosphere and good outdoor seating. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Food is incredible and plentiful.

Very good. You order at the bar first which isn't very obvious upon walking inside. Only thing keeping it from five stars is the awkwardness of the order process.
