Reviews of Mudtown Eat & Drink
Awesome food and drinks. There for brunch and if comfort food is what you are looking for then this is the place. Great staff with smiling faces. Being from out of town, I could tell the locals love it too. Oh yeah, the bloody Mary and mimosas were great.
Great place. The beer is cold and the burger was excellent. It’s a small establishment with a nice bar and outdoors dining. The friendly staff made it a great experience. I would revisit again.
Just take my advice and get the Slabtown Soul plate. Garlic grits topped with greens, coneca sausage, and hot chicken. Ridiculously good. The atmosphere is comfortable. The beer selection is good. And the service by Josh was great
First time eating at this place it was great food the fish tacos were outstanding. My wife got the chicken finger tacos they were really good also we will make another trip back.
I so enjoyed this spot. I drove up from Montgomery after I found them on Google. I the the person incharge was my waitress...Kayla...I think that's how it was spelled. She was AWESOME! I will go back. It did help with the $5 mimosas...LOL!!!

We’ve been meaning to stop by and try this little restaurant but it’s always been busy. We decided to get there this time before the crowd hit and let me tell you it was a great decision.
A small bar/restaurant that’s tucked away that you almost drive by and miss it. Parking is a little tricky and there’re very few to be had, but trust me - it’s worth it.

Server was friendly, helpful & knowledgeable about food being offered.
Husband ordered the Soco BBQ Bleu’s Burger & Tater Tots. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, medium well burger with bbq sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, blue cheese spread and bbq chips ($14).
I ordered the Cahaba Grilled Chicken Tacos (3) & Tater Tots. Chicken tenders tossed in a mild hot sauce with ranch slaw. I can highly recommend everything.
Food arrived hot & delicious.
If you’ve never been, please set aside some time to try out this wonderful restaurant.
This last time we were there for Sunday brunch and they were packed. They still worked to find a suitable spot for my family. The chicken fingers were great as was my burger! They have a nice selection of beers. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual spot to imbibe be or have a meal.
Pasta was delicious, service was excellent by Jodie. Others enjoyed their food as well. First time a lady and pastor from Florida bought our dinners. Thank you very much. !!
This unassuming establishment truly surprised me. The food was deliciously satisfying. I want to come back tomorrow night and try something else!! The live music was a pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed our evening.
Wow!! We stopped here for dinner last week on our journey to our new home in Houston. Not only were Heather and Jim FABULOUS, the food was absolutely spectacular!
If you like collard greens, you must order them. The best I have ever had in my life! Catfish fingers are fantastic as were the fried green tomatoes. I could only eat half of my Reuben because I was busy eating everything else but the Reuben was also top notch.
If we lived in Birmingham, we’d be there once a week!
Killer food. Great vibe. The opening statement on the menu is right, parking sucks but not nearly as bad as some places in the area.
Service was a little slow but they were packed. My only complaint was that two of the 3 children in our party asked for pickles on the side, one ordered the kids cheeseburger and wanted pickles on the side while the other one wanted pickles on the side with her chicken tenders because the other one wanted. The server took that as an order of fried pickles with their meals. That resulted in an upcharge and none of the girls ate them. We were going to say something but by the time the server came back we were ready to go so I just paid the bill and left.
We have been loyal customers of Dave's Mudtown Restaurant since the first week 17 years ago this month. Our favorites are Shrimp & Grits, Fish Tacos, Monte Crisco & Ruben. Always very good service and comfort food. The atmosphere is very homey & comfortable... Our favorite restaurant in Cahaba Heights.
Tight space, and slightly treacherous parking, but great food and wonderful service. A GREAT neighborhood spot! The Conecuh dogs are excellent. So are many other items on the menu, like the Charleston Shrimp & Grits and the Slabtown Soul Plate. But the Fried Green Tomatoes are simply unequaled! Best I've found anywhere!
Quite a uniquely fun and delicious experience crammed into a tight space with available yet difficult parking. Some of the best fries around. The mahi fish was surprisingly good considering how far it had to be flown in. The price made me wonder if it's real mahi, but I'm not complaining -- it tasted great in the salad. Everyone reported enjoying their food though the fried green tomato BLT was messy.
Always a favorite local spot that I don't make it to nearly enough. Great food and a great beer selection. Staff is always laid back and personable. Our waitress was great with our little boy. They make a darn good burger, but I branched out and tried the Slabtown Soul Plate last night - it was fantastic! Will definitely order it again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was great. Would recommend this place to friends. They also have a children's menu and provided colors.
We were from out of town looking for a southern style restaurant. The food was amazing and Heather was great! Very happy we stopped by!
No problems with the service, decent servers seem hard to come by nowadays, but dude man was good, ordered bacon gorganzola queso, and the soul plate, the queso was queso, the chips were fried flour tortillas, Weird bite to them but it was like eating the shell of a chimichanga, which I enjoyed a lot, the soul plate.... I don't even know what to say, it was absolutely delicious, the Nashville chicken wasn't very hot but the flavor was way better than any I've ever had, the cheese grits were fine, but the collards, I don't even normally care for collard greens but these were ridiculously good. Will be back for sure.
Very casual a bit pricey but the food was really good. Brunch with $5 mimosas and bloody Mary's. The brunch menu changes occasionally. The hashbrowns were phenomenal. We ordered fried green tomatoes, cahaba wings, shrimp and grits, a Reuben with bacon smashed potatoes and fried pork chop with eggs, biscuit and gravy. Mister needed to salt his meal and didn't like the gravy on the biscuit. But over all we all found something we liked.
This place is cozy. Can sit outside the patio looking down the street. Pets are welcome on patio. Quick service. I didn't like my food very much (personal taste) but my bf loves his Animal Burger.
Good food but rather crowded. Some of the food proportions could have been a little bit bigger though. My waitress was very nice.
Food was fantastic and it's a really cute little place. Small and welcoming which we love. Mr. Cole was fantastic and gave us plenty of time and excellent service. Monte Cristo and Philly Cheesesteak are fantastic as well as the fries and fried pickles! Would highly recommend!
This is hands down the BEST Monte Cristo in the state. I think I cried when I ate it. It was absolutely perfect in every way.
The slogan on the menu says it best “amazing food, horrible parking”
We have been in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham for 9 days and this place is by far the best dining we have had by far since we arrived . If you are in the area do not miss this place. The service was awesome we had a young man named Josh he was attentive and friendly. I had a Fried green tomato BLT and sweet potato fries with an amazing blu cheese dipping sauce. We had a bowl of Gumbo 😋 yummy. My hubby had Cahaba Cajun hamburger ordered medium rare and it actually was medium rare as ordered. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😊 we will definitely make the drive to Birmingham from Tuscaloosa again just for the food here.👍🏼👍🏼 Small place but great food. Mudtown is a great small town feel with home style food with a Cajun flare.
Great food & great service. Small cozy place with a great atmosphere. Classic entrees with a unique spin. I had the Monte Cristo one day at lunch and it was awesome. Will make my way back soon to try the next tasty entree.
The food was amazing and the waiter we had was the best!! Great Military discount! Will be visiting again next time we are passing through.
Enjoyed lunch at Mudtown. I would've liked some other cocktail options but they did a great job on a lemon drop martini and a Rueben sandwich.
Grits were definitely good. the dish was overpriced though... Shrimp were tiny, and nothing special. Beer list is decent. Staff great.
We visited a few weeks ago with a dear friend and it was delicious! Definitely will be back when we are in town!
Love the hamburgers at this place! They’re ON POINT and the customer service is THE BEST!
Great food and great place to sit outside and eat! Our burger was fantastic and they have the best fries! It was also really cool that our dog could come with us and sit outside! I would definitely recommend and we will be back!
This place has such a unique vibe ~ family friendly, super clean, brightly lit, cute decor... but the bartenders pour a quick shot and have a ton of personality. Joanie is particularly delightful! I can't think of another place in Birmingham where I'd be equally quick to send a family of four with a toddler AND a server who needed a quick drink between a double shift. Honestly amazing. ❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜
What a great discovery! Today was my first visit and I will definitely be back. Aside from the parking challenge, the place is a gem and the service outstanding! And the food!!! Such a good selection of items you cannot get at many other restaurants.
I savored the Fried Green Tomato BLT with a side of sweet potato waffle fries (well done, just like I like them) and cannot rave enough about this dish! In all my decades of eating fried green tomatoes I've never had them stay crisp let alone stay crisp in a sandwich! All of the flavors together were exceptional! The blue cheese dip for the potatoes was a tasty surprise. And the pepper jelly for the sandwich was the perfect compliment to the yummy ingredients.
Burger was okay. If I go back I'll probably try something else. Service wasn't that great either, though I got the impression they may have been short-handed.
This place has awesome food. Very small, only about six tables inside. Good atmosphere though, and outside seating if it's a good day. Good service.
10/10 recommend I had the fish tacos with gumbo on the side . My husband had all American burger food and drinks were fantastic 🙄😍 our server was so nice and honest . Thank you we will be back soon! …
Went here for brunch on a Saturday. By noon they were packed as it is a small cafe/bar with inside and outdoor seating. It was a hot day in July so nobody was seated outside. Great Bloody Mary's and good brunch menu. My wife and I throughly enjoyed the food, the service and the local casual fibe. Convenient arking is scarce so we had to park down the hill behind it.
Casual Dive - USA Burger One of the Best Burgers I've Ever Had!!! #fantasticfood
Iceberg Wedge Salad w/Crab Cake -Fantastic
This place is one of Cahaba Heights' best kept secrets. Great food, great service, and terrible parking.
So good! Great service, yummy food, and not judgy at all when I asked about dietary accommodations!
Casual dining with great food and drinks. A wait during prime hours 7:00-8:00pm especially on weekends. TV’s available for sports enthusiasts. Black eyed peas, cheese grits, fried onion rings, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches and BLT Salad wedge !!
Parked right in front and enjoyed a great cheeseburger, gumbo, Ruben and fried green tomatoes. Good food and service.
Anything on this menu is good . The best hamburgers around. Great place to eat
First time I have been to Mudtown Eat and Drink. Loved the atmosphere and service. The food was very good and they serve plenty. Enough to take home for a second meal and they give you a drink to take with it. I was also pleased with the pricing. Don’t hesitate to eat here. You will not be disappointed. I will be returning on my next run to Birmingham. Thank you Mudtown Eat and Drink.
Great little place to have a casual brunch, lunch or dinner. The food is great, from the salads, to burgers, and more. Good beer selection, friendly staff. I took my wife and three kids, everyone loved the diverse selection of food.
Great food and friendly staff; as the menu states 'parking sucks!' but everything else about this place makes it worth a visit😀 …
I'm a very quite person, and just want to eat and drink. I've been looked over several times, cause I'm so easy going. The food is really good. I'll give this place one more chance before I blacklist it.
Great hidden place of the Summit shopping center. Good selection of beer and delicious burgers. Everything priced just right, stuff very nice too. 3rd visit and I will be back.
Great food drinks daily specials and staff! Large menu selection with very creative and delicious entrees! Fried pies are great also.
Awesome awesome, food was amazing the bartender was awesome, the atmosphere was amazing, and my girlfriend's and I enjoyed ourselves.
I decided to give Mudtown a shot for the first time in a few years. After trying to call in a carryout order for a half hour, I decided to just go in. Waiting for my pair of entrees took another 20 minutes, and when I got home I was surprised to see the house salad had neither goat cheese nor candied pecans. We added chicken to the salad, which was another disappointment as it looked like for $4 the kitchen just quickly cut up a single kid's tender. Fish tacos did measure up by containing all of the stipulated components and being pretty good to boot. A generous serving of green beans accompanied them, but that was only because - at lunch time, no less - they were out of fries, grits, and collards.
Great atmosphere, food and service. My shrimp and grits was amazing.
Great staff, great food!! Definitely coming back!!!
Excellent service, terrific menu. Restaurant atmosphere is great! Will be back!
Cool little spot with a decent atmosphere. Our service was great. Gumbo wasn't piping hot but flavorful and the shrimp and grits were delicious.
Cool place, bad parking (their own words). Surprisingly good food. A little off the main drag of 280 but well worth the detour. Solid selection of regional craft brews.
This is a locals' secret. Tiny place. Intimate location where everybody knows everybody. Fortunate to have great people who are locals, as friends. Shoot, don't tell anybody
My wife and I went there for the first time just after radiation. So we were both feeling a little down but our server TIFFANY made us feel more than welcome! The food was amazing, by far one of the best burgers I've had (and I own a restaurant, so I know a good burger) but our server was the highlight of our experience. I recommend this place to anyone who likes good food, good beer, and even better service. THANK YOU TIFFANY FOR MAKING US FEEL LIME FAMILY!!
I have been wanting to try this place for a while and decided to grab lunch for me and my coworker. I was not pleased. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT sandwich which has bacon on it, as the BLT implies, the bacon was chewy and pulled off the sandwich with my first bite, the bread was soggy, the Jalapeno pimento cheese was bland and the pepper jelly was more like blueberry syrup. My tater tots were awesome though! Basically, I paid 12 for an order of wonderful tots!
This place is the absolute best! Staff, unbelievable. Food, fantastic. Everything about this place just says we’re local and really good! Hell I even like the parking!
The food was great. The place is small but that can be good. Carries the atmosphere of the friendly neighborhood pub. Service good. Best hamburger in town.
Favorite restaurant in Vestavia Hills. Every time I have an appointment at UAB we stop in for a meal. Love the neighborhood feel, excellent food & service.
I go for the wonderful local beers, but i also love bringing friends from out of town to experience a little piece of Southern heaven. Everyone I've brought (national or international) has raved about the food and there have been many requests for another meal before moving on. Service is exemplary and accommodations are always made for dietary preferences. Definitely a favorite many times over!
Best fried green tomatoes! Went on whim and do not regret stopping here! Great food. Fries are crispy and delicious. Shrimp po boy was fantastic! Had a taste of the Peruvian dish on the menu that my fiancé ordered, and that knocked my socks off! Everything was delicious and I highly recommend coming here for lunch or dinner. It’s on the small side, so you might want to do takeout if it’s busy.
Good food. Great atmosphere. We were here on a Saturday afternoon. I had the Conecuh sausage dogs which were exactly I expected them to be. I mean, how do you go wrong with Conecuh sausage???. My wife had the shrimp and grits that she enjoyed. Since she never finishes her meals, I was able to try it. While I don't care for onions and peppers, I did enjoy the shrimp, sausage and cheese grits. The service was good. As they advertise, parking is not great. I would and probably will go there again.
It's great to have this place in Cahaba Heights. Smoked wings are excellent and it's nice to have a good beer selection. As everyone knows, the parking sucks.
Neighborhood place with arguably the best burger in the Ham. If I don't want to make my own I'll get a USA Cheeseburger from here...and I live closer to the erstwhile Best Burger from Mr Stitt...it's seriously a good burger and well priced too. Sometimes if I'm waiting I get tickled by the fact that Applebees bills itself as a "Neighborhood" place. I GUESS...if you live in a mall or busy highway. THIS is a neighborhood bar and grill.
Parking stinks if it's crowded.
I had the fried shrimp poboy, it's a huge sandwich. Others had the fried green tomato with bacon and lettuce, crab cake BLT, and fried pickles appetizer. All the food was good, no complaints. Parking lot is a little difficult, but with it. Customer service was really good, masks were worn but still checked in on us regularly. I do not recommend sitting outside as there are a ton of flies.
Food was great. We both had burgers that were cooked perfectly and the fried pickles are spot on with taste and the right amount of crunch!
Just as the menu states: Great food Horrible Parking. The Cahaba Cajun Burger is delicious. The have a great Crab cake. The catfish fingers are spot on. The drinks are cold. What more can I say? Go eat at Mudtown you will not be disappointed. Good luck finding a parking spot.
The service was a bit slow and sporadic, but I think the waitress may have just been inexperienced. The burger was very good and the side white sauce (albeit unsure what it was) was very good with the fries!
Excellent waiter. Friendly & helpful staff. Local beer selection was diverse with something for everyone. Seasoned fries were crispy & so good! Classic USA hamburger was excellent!! Definitely do again!
Read these reviews before going and they were spot on. Parking is a disaster and it is a ‘seat yourself’ kind of place. But the food was terrific, served quick and Tiff was a gem. We had the Monte Cristo - which was great - and the crab cake BLT - which may have been better. The Apple vinegar slaw and the black eyed peas were terrific. Bar has a full selection and prices were standard. Music on Tuesdays. Highly recommend this place. Already planning next trip and the couple coming with us.
Get the soul plate and the fried green tomatoes. $5 bloody mary’s and margaritas during Sunday brunch 11-2. Happy hour drink specials and live music every Tuesday. Cute little down south bar. Terrible parking - but great food for sure.
stumbled across this place while looking for a spot to eat some lunch near the summit. as many other's have described it: "hole-in-the-wall" type of vibe. fantastic service! my girlfriend loves cajun food but is allergic to a lot of cajun seasonings - they ensured that none of her food would even be cooked on the same surface as any of their other food to ensure it would he safe for her to eat. food tastes amazing. will definitely be returning, especially to enjoy the live music they sometimes have playing during the evening
Good food. Casual atmosphere.
The perfect place at the perfect time. Our server was extremely pleasant and knew just when to dip in and out, while the food was stellar. Southern greasy spoon done imaginatively and to perfection. This was our first trip here and we will definitely be back.
It's cozy, welcoming and the best place you can go to if you're in or near the Summit and don't want a soulless chain joint. Worth making a trip for even though it's near the dreaded 280.
This is a wonderful place to eat. The food is awesome and the people are great, especially Heather!!! I highly recommend them.
Just moved back to Cahaba Heights. Got Patty melt & side of green beans…so yummy. Place so cute and warming. I will be back to try fried green tomatoes, & other things on menu.!!
The food was absolutely delicious. One of the best burgers and fries I've had in all of Birmingham. Very friendly staff! Parking could be a bit better, but they can't really help that much. Will definitely be coming back!
Food was great had the blackened grouper over grits. Service was adequate not overwhelming, must have been under construction because front covered entry filled with old restaurant equipment. Pricing is fair portions are good. Have eaten here in the past and had always been satisfied.
One of my favorite neighborhood bar & grills! They have an excellent variety of hamburgers, sandwiches, & Cajun inspired food. They also have a nice selection of local beers. The parking situation is interesting to say the least! If you go too fast down their hill in the parking lot most car/SUVs will bottom out & scrape (notice all the scrape marks). So basically go SLOW in the parking lot & the food/beer is wonderful!
I stumbled upon this place after a late night shopping trip....Y’all, this place is a HIDDEN GEM, slightly tucked away from the main roads, yet so very close to 280! The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food was AMAZING!! Best Burger I’ve ever had! The fries were excellent! Mashed potatoes ohhh soooo good!! My children said the chicken fingers were delicious!! They definitely have a way of making traditional southern foods unique...and yummy! Prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of food & portion size...my experience was wonderful.
The food is always delicious and fresh! The staff is always on top of things and super friendly!
The only *bad* experience we had was last week. Our main course (after amazing appetizers and drinks) was a little late. No big deal, but the owner gave us a free dessert! (Which was still awesome!!)
Definitely one of our favorite (and regular) spots to eat and relax on the weekend!
Local restaurant with a Cajun flair. We had a party of 4 and everything we ordered was good. They even have a patio. I recommend going on a Tuesday since it is 5 dollar martini night. They also have a good selection of local beer as well.
Went to Mudtown spur of the moment for brunch along with two friends. Steaks were not cooked as ordered, but the fries and service made up for it. Despite the steaks, I do plan to return and give it another try because everyone has an off day. Will update.
Yesterday was another opportunity to eat at this fine establishment, where I consider to have one of the top, if not the BEST BURGER in the Birmingham area. However, I'm personally sharing a review because it was an example of superior customer service. My wife and I ordered burgers for lunch; however, when the order arrived to our table, they had accidentally given me the wrong burger than which I ordered. When I brought this to their attention, the quickly resolved the issue with a replacement. Now this may seem like normal protocol, but they also offered to discount my check substantially, which I found completely unnecessary and tremendously generous on their part. This a a restaurant like many others who are having to implement new methods to serve their customers through COVID-19, but maintaining a standard of excellence in their service. They will always have my business, and I will continue to send my friends there! Thank you Mudtown!
Can't wait to go back! Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and the food was DELICIOUS. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.
Bring back the grilled fish entree. I use to eat here once a week but, the new menu has been very limited for me. Would be happy to hear why that choice has not been on the new menu.
The relaxed atmosphere makes Mudtown a great lunch spot or the perfect place to grab a bite to eat with friends. The menu is very diverse, giving you different choices of meat for various dishes.
On my first visit, I had the Soco Loco Burger with a side of grilled veggies. The bacon could have been a bit more crispy, but it was still delicious.
I will definitely be back. I may have to plan it for after work so I can enjoy a beer with my meal (which they have a great selection of)!
Eaten here twice, both times more than amazing!! 10/10 service and food. I had the grit bowl with greens, chicken, and andouille sausage… a hit!!!
Good vibe, tasty drinks, filling food. Fried green tomatoes were good, though slightly over breaded for my taste. The sauce was really good. Tuna Tataki was decent, not the best I've had in town, but I really liked the slaw. Eduardo Saltado was good, nice vinegar touch and the crab cake sandwich was very tasty, especially with the fried egg on top. Looking forward to our next visit.
Fantastic food and service. I forgot to take any pics of our food but we had the tuna tataki appetizer, my daughter had the fish tacos with garlic green beans and I had the Panchartrain Pasta. I to our server, the shrimp in the pasta was the best cooked shrimp I have ever eaten. We will definitely come here again.
Wonderful place. Great experience and food is delicious. Server was a delight. What a wonder meal and great dining experience. Felt like neighborhood place to eat and socialize. We are visiting from Florida, Virginia and Mobile. Up for National Theater on Ice National Competition.
They were only slightly busy when I was seated and wanted to ask some questions about the menu. It took a bit too long for the waiter to get to us. The food was tasty but a bit too greasy. I would however order the club sandwich again!
Great food! Thanks for offering traditional new years food to go on New year's day
This is a small local place with good food and great ambiance. It is family friendly with outside areas to dine. The dishes are freshly made and delicious. Portions are large. The wait staff was excellent.
Interesting parking ;) Nice selection of local and regional beers on draft. Great food selection for a small spot... vegetarians have several options (not a vegan, so I didn't pay attention there sorry) and of course carnivore friends have more to choose
Food was very good and had best chips ever. I got fish tacos and slaw and was great. Servings need to be bigger to get 5 stars.
We have seen this place come up as something we might like but today was our first time visiting, and we were more then impressed. Will be back for sure as there were multiple items on the menu that we wanted to try. Place is smaller but there is available outside seating. Employees were very friendly and food was great!
Easily my favorite restaurant in Birmingham. The food is always delicious, the staff is welcoming, and they always have a great selection of new draft beer on rotation. The Sunday brunch is their secret weapon, with fantastic ever-changing breakfast combos (especially with a cold Lunchbox to drink along with it).
This was our first visit to Mudtown and I have to say that the food was fantastic! We tried the Corona Onionrings and they were some of the best I have had anywhere especially when paired with the tasty dipping sauce. I had the Shrimp and grits and my wife had the fish tacos. I would highly recommend either of these dishes. The only disappointment was the obnoxiously loud lady sitting at the bar but that wasn't Mudtowns fault. Everyone looked anxious for her to leave.
Good for lunch. The Monte Cristo is amazing. Their hamburgers are pretty good, but a bit greasy.
Parking is... just awful. There's not a ton of spaces, and they are on a terrible hill. I know they make fun of themselves, but that doesn't solve the problem.
Love this place- their southern style food is delicious and fresh. Each item has a slight twist and is packed full of flavour; their FGT are excellent and served w a tasty jam dip. Watch out on Fridays, this place will be packed!
Great place and dog friendly. The whole family enjoyed their meals. We had the Reuben with black eyed peas, a monte Cristo with grits, and the kids had the fresh fried fish. All was delicious.
This is the truest expression of a neighborhood gastro pub and hangout you can imagine. Always feels like you are in an episode of Cheers when you are there. Food is outstanding. Space is small and can feel a bit cramped, but that is part of the ambiance of this Cahaba Heights staple. Don't miss their weekend brunch and $5 martini Tuesdays. Their sister restaurant, The Ridge, on Rocky Ridge Rd is also great.
The sweet potato chips were not up to par; small chips that were squishy. However, the St. Croix Chicken salad was quite good. Plenty of texture and taste. The staff was sociable and attentive.
The Monte Cristo and Reuben were unbelievably good. This is my little hidden gem and has by far some of the best food in all of Alabama. The food here is authentic, flavorful, creative and pleasant on the eyes and taste buds. This is my go to when I have friends and family visiting from out of town and my favorite spot when I need creative comfort food.
Definately worth the trip! We were passing through town and found this on google. My husband and i love it! I had the monte cristo and i LOVED IT and my husband had the green tomato burger and he loved his! We shared the blue cheese and sweet potato dip, if you dont like either of these don't be scared i didn't think i did either and i ate more of the dip than my husband who loves blue cheese and sweet potatoes. The guy behind the bar was super nice and helpful, he also recommended a beer for my husband. I would go back in a heartbeat if we are in the area again, hands down good food!
I've always received the best service from the staff here. The food is delicious and the wait is short. I recommend the fried green tomatoes!
I love this place, I go out of my way to visit MudTown. The beer selection is great and they even have wine. However, the place is really small so if you want to be seated right away you need to avoid visiting at "popular" hours. I have had issues with getting seated at the bar due to children sitting at the bar. Definitely hurts business when people can't oder drinks and sit at the bar because children are just sitting there.
Great food and prices, friendly and helpful staff
Everything was great!
Friendly service, tasty food, draft beer and even the “ugly” parking was good!
We will return for sure!
Great service.....
Fabulous food including the Rum Cherry salad dressing.... No over service like their neighbor whose waiter asked us if we were OK LITERALLY EVERY THREE MINUTES. Mudtown is a FIRST class dive eatery. I am going to become a regular.
If visiting Birmingham for a short time, don't miss this local "watering hole" with great burger (and more)!! Beware the parking situation isn't great--even if the parking lot looks packed, give it a chance. Service moves quickly and it's bigger inside than you'd think.
A must try, Cajun Burger and the Smoked Wings! Both have plenty of spice and layers of flavor.
Stopped by for a quick drink. Quaint spot for local fare. Place was busy on a midweek evening which is a good indicator that it's well liked.
WOW. Hands Down THE BEST Food I've eaten all year! I Drove Here From Charleston South Carolina For A Friend's Wedding. Drove 8 Hours And This Was The First Place I Went To. AMAZING. I Ate The Monte Cristo Sandwich AND The Cahaba Cajun Burger. If I Could Give 10 Stars I Would! And The Bacon Smashed Potatoes??!! Awesome Service, DELICIOUS Food. Thank you Mudtown!!
Some of the best bar food I've had in a while. It wasn't too crowded at lunch, and had a nice, pleasant atmosphere. I HIGHLY recommend the fried green tomatoes and the animal burger.
Excellent food in a hole-in-the-wall setting. The pork sandwich and the chicken po-boy were both delicious. We found this place during a long weekend in Birmingham and would definitely return next time!
Very good food. We ordered fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and other items. The food is delicious, the portions are generous and great atmosphere, quick service.
Upscale bar food. Good beer. Okay atmosphere. Pretty tight quarters. Awful parking. But, did I mention good beers?
We absolutely love this place! You can’t go wrong with any of the food. Seriously! From their Cajun pasta to burgers and wings it’s all yummy and LOCAL.
It's a hidden gem and place locals go to get excellent comfort food. Tiny and rustic seating area makes it fun and cozy. Kids welcome. Don't tell anyone so we can enjoy this place for ourselves! 😉 …
We are driving from Memphis to St. Augustine and stopped by Mudtown for lunch. We'd never heard of it before and I'm so happy we went there. The party melt is perfect and the fries are the best I've ever had.
Quaint little bar and grill with FANTASTIC food. I got the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich with Bacon. My wife got Fish Tacos with Sweet Potato Chips. Cannot wait to return and sample other fare!
Great little neighborhood place. Good people good food.
Delicious food and great service! My usually vegetarian daughter LOVED the catfish!
Packed & still got great service. Food & drinks good in the tummy. Fun date night.
Really enjoyed the food will return .not very big but it was worth the wait! Quality and care in food was Spot on i tried the Monticristo for the 1st time and was really impressed .great job service is fast, food is good what more could you ask for..
Parking is a joke, Had to ask for table to be ripped off. Service slow, prices a little high but food taste good and you got plenty.
Great atmosphere, good food! Horrible parking, but the menu will tell you that too! Lol!
Love this local place. Great burgers, Reuben is outstanding, decent ( though not extensive) draft beer selection. Bartender & regulars are friendly
Good burgers. Prompt service. Fair prices.
Great original American dishes in a great atmosphere. A variety of selections all of which are good. Not a ton of room so get there early for dinner.
The best side on the menu is the sweet potato chips and the fantastic dip that comes with them.
Awesome burger / sandwich place. One of my favorites in the Birmingham area for sure.
Great atmosphere. Good food. Anytime of day is a good time. Parking is a bit tricky, so beat the crowd. Servers are quick, friendly, and knowledgeable
Awesome experiences! Small place, great food. Nice place to hangout! The sweet potato chips have an aamzing bleu cheese dip!! Everything on the menu is great!
The ribeye is to die for! Extremely flavorful! The service is also amazing! Our waitress was so sweet.
Great cheeseburgers and fries, the fried green tomatoes are a must have. The monte cristo is amazing. Don’t worry about the parking, just park in the back.
Omg this restaurant is a total 10 out of 10 ! The food is delicious, service is amazing and it’s really a chill home vibe.
Great place with different specials most nights. Took my parents here when they visited and they loved it as well. Great burgers! Will return soon.
Very good food and service.
Great spot good food and great service!
Amazing grilled wings, the meat comes right off the bone. Great atmosphere & service that makes me want to return. Kudos to the entire staff
We went here driving through town one Sunday evening! Great food and great service! Huge portions! Alex was our server and he was outstanding knows a lot about the town as well!
Nice local spot with excellent food and service. Really good portions for the price.
Great food, and environment. Very similar to the Ridge bar and grill
Fish and grits portion sizes were great but needed more seasoning, on the bland side. The siracha chicken was very hot
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and had great service
Nice people and great food! Parking is bad but the sandwich made up for it. Would recommend.
The food was great, Tiffany suggested the black eyed peas and I'm happy I took the advice. The catfish po'boy was also fantastic. I will definitely be coming back
It's a great place to eat. Their shrimp and grits are really good. So are the burgers. Yummy!
Awesome place with great food and great selection of unique menu items. Not my thing, but they seem to have a big and interesting beer list to choose from, too.
Usually a very good beer selection, good sandwiches (have yet to try an entree), tasty wings too, but I wish they'd bring back the 'Don Draper'.
I got the siracha chicken. It was a very nice sized portion, 4 chicken tenderloins on a bed of southern rice with a side of beans.
Just passing through. But I'd stop by again.
My week would not be complete without this place. The food and the staff never cease to amazed me. They also have the best brunch anywhere in Birmingham, I promise you won't be disappointed.
Service was good and Fried Green tomato sandwich was HUGE and very good according to my wife. My fish tacos were not very good and the fish was not fresh.
Amazing burger joint! Quickly became my favorite spot in town for a quick and delicious lunch. Great and friendly staff with some killer food.
Idk why they keep over-hyping the raspberry ketchup, it's not nearly as good as the dipping sauce used for the fried pickles. I would recommend the Eduardo Saltado for a somewhat unique experience.
Food was great and service was really good.
Great local place for some unique eats. Bartenders are spot on and the crabcake BLT is to die for! Save room for dessert too
Good service and good food. Wonderful atmosphere, occasional live music. Outdoor porch is a great spot. Menu is inventive and well executed.
Food was phenomenal. Service was interesting, she was very unprofessional but oh well.
Beer selection was so-so today. Food was ok. Chicken tenders were under seasoned and burgers, sandwiches and fries we're way too salty.
Fun quaint little "hole in the wall" with some of the best food you will find in town. Properly voted worst parking but if you can find you spot park and head on in for the best shrimp n grits in town.
Neat hole in the wall kind of restaurant but food was lacking. Bit pricey for a burger that wasn’t great. Fried pickles were excellent though!
Last time I went to Mudtown I ordered a sandwich and it was just ok. I went back today about a year later and I ordered Sandwich to go. After walking outside and looking at it I realized the bread had turned to mush. Took it back in and they apoligized and stood over the kitchen while they made another one. kitchen put the wrong sauce on it the second time and had to remake it a third time. - Third time, I get outside, start down the road and decide to pull over and just check it. Soggy bread again. And I don't mean a little soggy. Totally saturated with butter or something. It was a ruben and I think they saute the kraut in butter and put it on the bottom piece of rye, then they stack corn beef on top of that and it's weight sqeezes the juices (way to many juices for kraut) into the bread and the bread desintigrates. I hear their fish is good. Maybe I'll give them another chance and avoid the sandwichs.
Brunch or wings, you can't go wrong!
Great place to eat. One that gets looked over because it is tucked away in an strange spot, but worth the find. Fried pickle chips is probably their most famous app, and a good one at that...
Get the fried pickles! They are great. Salads good, we have never had a bad meal there. Small place, big food.
We enjoyed the wings, Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, pecan salad, fried green tomatoes with crab cakes. 🦀 …
Service was a bit slow. Looked like they were a bit short staffed but the ones who showed up for work were hustling and doing a good job. The food was excellent.
All Good!
Service is great!! I tried the Beale Street burger and it was awesome! The burger was cooked as I asked and juicy. The fries are absolutely fantastic!!
Finally got to Mudtown and it definitely did not disappoint. We had the fried green tomatoes, grilled fish tacos, and shrimp & grits and all were excellent.
Definitely one of our hidden gems sprinkled throughout the greater city of Birmingham😊🤙🏼🥰. If you're looking for something unique, either to our city OR just in the general sense of the word... Mudtown is 💯% the well kept secret you've been looking for... 😎🤙🏼👅

Amazing place to eat! Cool atmosphere too! Food is so delicious and fresh. Get the Cajun burger!
Very nice hole in the wall restaurant. Philly cheese steak was good along with the fries. Most things on the menu are great!
Great atmosphere for the size of the place. Food was awesome and a good selection of beer. Service was goot as well.
Always a great experience. Food, drinks, service, all great.
Small place intimate setting with great food and drinks. Sunday brunch is a revolving menu, and it is all delicious.
Great atmosphere, food & service! It's a fun, friendly, laid back place with a great menu selection & wonderful food.
There isn't a bad item on the menu. The food is out of this world and there is something for everyone. Go on Sunday for the brunch menu!
Crabcake BLT gets 2 thumbs up, great bartender, great atmosphere. Overall, for a newcomer to the area, this is my kind of place & we'll be back!

Great place, friendly staff, and great food! Will definitely go back and tell all my friends!!
Food was good. The service was disorganized and overall poor. Do not get dessert, it is not worth the price.
Food is top notch! I'd like to try everything on their menu. Sweet potato fries are addictive.
Mudtown has good food and a decent bar. Friendly staff that that is helpful with a recommendation and good service. They do a great take out service too.
First time going and I will definitely go again. Great burger at a good price
I Love this place. I drive down once a year they have the BEST fried green tomatoes and the corona onion rings are to die for.
The service was great. The food was good, but I would have expected higher quality given the price.
Very small restaurant and bar, not much parking. But it is worth every penny!
Very good food. Outside dining not recommended because of flies
We love MudTown. Their Bloody Mary is pretty great, and you can't go wrong with the Monte Cristo.
Service was great but the food not so much.
Great casual restaurant, mid priced, you won't finish the meal. Too much food. In Cahaba Heights, a definite must try.
Great service, good food and nice selection of draft beers!
Go to for burgers and fries. Yea, they have other stuff. But I always feel like I am missing out unless I get a burger.
My choice for best steak in bhm. Also excellent menu and service. Good folks.
It's.... OK. Never had a terrible meal there but nothing has really blown me away either.
Since they first opened, they've had the best Reuben in Birmingham. I have deliberately tried to find a better one in recent years, but so far nobody can top it.
A hole in the wall that serves great food. We had crab cakes and fish tacos. Definitely going back.
small slice of delicious fun… one of the top highlights of B town
Great cozy place that had live music on a Tuesday night. The food was great and the staff was very friendly.
Excellent burgers and draft beers. Great service too!
Great place to eat. The fried green BLT was amazing.
A bit expensive, but it is some of the best food I've ever eaten and their local beer selection is usually good.

Neighborhood place, and a real good one! Good variety on the menu from burgers to entrees and salads.
