Reviews of Petit Louis Bistro
I am french and this is the BEST french restaurant in the state. The staff is amazing ,some of them are real french people and the chef is a magician. No waiting time for me at all. Everyone in the restaurant looked happy, including the staff. I missed home and it was definitely the place to be
Wonderful restaurant. Unfortunately there were a few bumps in service. Our bottles of wine did not come until we were midway through our entree. The food taste and quality was excellent.
Atmosphere: 4 a bit loud but a very cozy feel
Food: 4 excellent quality
Service: 3 lots of waiting for drinks and wine.
Value: (cost vs. the experience): 3
Petit Louis is one of the gems of Baltimore.
Every appetizer and entree I've had here absolutely slaps and can hold its own against some of the best restaurants in the country. Dishes are not overly complicated and every component had purpose on the plate and is executed with perfection. Duck confit, beet salad, and braised veal are some of the best hitting dishes to our palates that we've ever had. 🤯 I lick my plates here with little to no shame, it's honestly that good. Only caveat is that I haven't been as blown away by the desserts as much as the appetizers, so I skew towards indulging in their apps.
If you haven't been to Petit Louis, you need to fix that A 👏 S 👏 A 👏 P 👏.
Edit: I really love how flavorful yet refreshing their vichyssoise is as well. Sweetbreads are really well done, but the plate was very, very rich on the palate. My tongue needed acid or something to brighten the bites.
The food wasn't that great as expected. Service and atmosphere are unforgettable.
However, for set of 3 dishes we got really small portions. We left hungry.
My absolute favorite restaurant. The most consistent experience you can have in Baltimore. Escargot, steak frites, cucumber salad are my big favorites. And martinis poured table side. The maître de Patrick (he's from Lyon, France) makes everyone feel at home.
Absolutely delicious French cuisine. Our server was a polite and attentive, the atmosphere is cozy and romantic and everything felt authentic. The butternut squash soup was perfect, the chicken was so tender and juicy, with perfectly caramelized onion and carrots and the fries were salty, crispy and soft.
For starters we had the French onion soup, way too much bread but incredible flavor, and the escargot, delicious, decadent and overall wonderful! The bread and butter served were mediocre. The butter had no salt but that was quickly fixed and the bread was cold. The Coq au Vin and duck confit... Incredible! The Crème brûlée, and lemon tart were wonderful but, the Pot de crème was life changing! Service was on point too. Such a great night.
Been coming here for years and it’s consistently outstanding. First time in a couple years and the steak knives are amazing! Feels like a finely crafted dagger or dearth, and looks like the knife my pappy used to gut fish with. I will be coming back soon to wield this blade. About to eat the veal now, had to write a review between courses
Soups are fantastic, and other brunch foods were pretty good, too. Service was also good. The restaurant itself is a little crammed.
The service was excellent, and the food was wonderful. Each dish was as beautiful as it was delicious.
Will definitely be going back to try some of the other dishes.
Wolf/Foreman restaurants are the finest in Baltimore. We just returned from a trip to France in March and continued our journey with a trip to Paris in Baltimore. Great food, quality service and a great night to celebrate.
The service and food were excellent! We were a large group with a reservation for Sunday brunch. My two dining partners and I had never been there before but the others had. The service – we had a main waiter and multiple food and drink servers who all worked together like in a choreographed dance or well oiled machine! If there was an issue or challenge to be dealt with it was handled willingly and pleasantly. A request for something could be handled by any of the servers not just the head waiter and it was! The French onion soup was just what you would expect it to be and perfect. The poached eggs were magnificent. The baguette slices accompanying the gravlax were toasted just right! The chocolate mousse (see photo) was delicious and I removed the crème on top in order to enjoy it to the unadulterated fullest.
One in our party had celiac disease and thus needed to have a non-contaminated gluten free meal. The waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive to this and was able to give this person options for having a great meal. And it worked because not only was it delicious but they had no complications after or later! (It should be noted that the kitchen needs to be in sync with the waiter’s requests and celiac gluten free food preparation which happily it was!)
Loved eating outside under the heat lamps, it was very comfortable and atmospheric. The food was incredible and well portioned; my partner and I were full when they brought out dessert but we're both glad we got that too - lemon tart was my favorite. Great place for a splurge!
The service was amazing starting with the greeter/host who seated us earlier than expected at a very nice table. The bartender made me a larger than average sized martini to start the evening. We had assistance in selecting a fine champagne for the table. The server was delightful and very professional. I found the menu to be filled with so many delicious offerings. The three of us enjoyed everything we ordered. Perfectly prepared food with scrumptious desserts at the end. Great way to celebrate my birthday! The local neighborhood restaurant was packed on a Thursday evening and now I know why. Great job, Petit Louis!
We've dined here many times over the years and they have consistently given top notch professional and friendly service. The meals are reliability delicious. The duck confit is a stand out. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion too. And, the cheese cart is back!
Great ambience (sitting outside under a canopy), good food and excellent staff. I ordered Rainbow Trout with almonds on rice pilaf-excellent. Portions were adequate considering French.
Petit Louis is one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. Not only is the service and environment impeccable, but the food is authentically French, wonderfully prepared, and well priced.
Go for the French cuisine classics like Escargot and Trout Almondine... stay for the sommelier's extensive (and perfect) recommendations and cheese pairings.
We've lived down the street for years , but for some reason it took a cold and rainy May evening to get us up to Petit Louis for the first time. The reputation of the french onion soup spurring us forward. We were not disappointed. Service was phonomenal and we were made to feel taken care of despite it being a busy evening. Our food was outstanding thanks to our server for recommending the special. Drinks and dessert capped the evening so well we had to add another french 75 on after the check. All in all it was a perfect way to spend an otherwise dreary Saturday evening.
We decided to stay outdoors as the weather could not had been any better during the evening, for starters We had Aubergines Croquantes (Eggplant Napoleón) which was fried til toasted yet very soft in the center and favorful, MOULES aux FINES HERBES (Mussels) they were Cook perfect! And the broth we used as dip with our bread, as it was that good! 😁 our third app was BEIGNETS de CERVETTES which are Fried onions and Fried shrimp on a Tempura style breading with a saffron Sauce for dipping Shrimp was nicely cooked!
For my Main course I decided to keep it simple and choose STEAK FRITES which came juicy and a perfect Medium Rare on the center! The fries were nicely crunchy. Our server Helen recommended us a nice bottle of red wine which was a blend of Pinot Noir and Merlot that paired well with the steak and seafood dishes that we all got, she was very attentive and friendly, to end the night I tried a Creme Broulee which she recommended me a nice dessert wine that had grapes and Cognac notes within it, could not had been a better ending to a lovely meal!
From out of town, went with a local who was familiar with the restaurant. Ambience was good, a bit loud, but there is covered outdoor seating. Food was superb, we had duck confit, trout, and duck magret. All were very good, duck confit was best. Salad was fresh and serving was enough for two. Escargot was just ok, not quite at par for a good French restaurant. Service was excellent particularly considering how busy they were during our visit. Prices were a bit high but acceptable for food. Do be careful with some of the alcohol prices. Overall an excellent experience.
Always have had a great experience here. The outdoor dining is particularly nice! Be sure to try the pomme frites and escargot . The cheese cart is also a great treat. Recently had the duck cooked medium rare to perfection. Can't wait for my next visit!
We have been to Petit Louis many times before and we went last night and it was really not the best! It was like the kitchen was dialing it in. I had the fois gras paired with sweet wine and that was great my partner had the crevette beignets and it was like we were at Ruby Tuesday’s. Deep fried and soggy. For my main, I had the sweetbreads and the came half cooked and greasy but with with ribbons of raw flour. As you know… sweetbreads are delicate. They were poorly cooked and underwhelming. Dry and tasteless on a bed of mushrooms. No brandy cream sauce or glaze. Just really underwhelming and poorly cooked. As a French person who knows French food, I think this place is underwhelming and reliant on there location in the glitzy Roland park area. It’s been a great place and maybe it was an off night but seriously a downer.
Great food and ambience. First time and I loved it. They grow fresh ingredients on site for their amazing French onion soup.
What a wonderful little restaurant, a piece of France that blossomed in Maryland. I love their civilized lunch fare $29 per person plus half off bottles of wine... everything was perfect, from the salad (with duck, my favorite) to the entree (pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon) to the exquisite pavlova dessert. Service is top notch too, friendly, efficient but never intrusive. Dinner is equally excellent.
Everything about this restaurant was great. The place was clean and smelled good. The staff and greeter was very nice. Our waiter Luke was awesome, the staff also worked as a team in bringing and cleaning up our food. The food was fresh and awesome. Then we also had dessert and that was really good as well. Great atmosphere with really nice people.
This was our chosen restaurant to meet the parents of our daughter’s fiancé-:). The service was great, and the food was good as well. Very busy and lively atmosphere - but we were still able to converse.
Absolutely devine. This was our 4th visit.
All of the dishes were cooked to perfection. The wine was suggested and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was buzzing with happy customers and helpful servers. We must have had 5 different people helping us with either menu choices, bringing us our dishes, or clearing of the plates. We are looking forward to returning.
I do not understand the allure. The service was merely acceptable. The decor was dated and the ambience was frenetic. The salmon was flavorless. We paid $170 for 2 salads, 2 salmon dishes, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 eclairs we dare not eat. You can get a better value for your money elsewhere for sure. Moreover, your reservation is limited to 1 hour (city rules) which may seem generous but feels rushed. And the coup de grace: My partner and I both developed abdominal cramps and diarrhea within 2 hours of our meal. I suspect the spinach salad as E.Coli outbreaks have been linked to spinach in the past. Cook your own food or find a better restaurant.
Petit Louis is always my favorite place to go in North Baltimore. Service has ALWAYS been 5 stars, and the food is consistently high quality French fare paying good attention to the mélange of flavors that set the French apart. The house sommelier does a great job of paring, and the cheese selection is also good. The pastry chef is also excellent, as the deserts are second to none.
Delicious lunch with a friend. Great service. Only "complaint" is that it is pretty loud and I had some trouble hearing my friend across the table.
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious cuisine! One of my favorite Baltimore restaurants and a perfect place to celebrate special occasions. My favorite dishes include the eggplant Napoleon, frisée salad and whole roasted chicken. Amazing wine and cheese selection! Chocolate mousse and pots de creme are spectacular!
A fantastic little hide away in Roland Park that never disappoints. The wine and drink selection is amazing, and you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The must-tries, beignets, boeuf bourguignon, Pointrine de Poilet, and the desserts, wow. Make a point to try Petit Louis.
Tres bon! Excellent all around. Food, wine, service. Such a memorable meal.
Omelette, short ribs, mussels, pomme frittes,
Desserts, cocktails....the best
Solid French restaurant. My only complaint is that the portions are on the small side, you can't count that against a French restaurant. The few times I went it was also for lunch, so dinner may be heartier.
I was taken to this little Bistro buy my brother-in-law and sister for my birthday. Our waitress was delightful and even put a single candle on my dessert. My dinner was very tasty and I enjoyed my cocktail and wine.
When you dine at a Foreman Wolf restaurant you expect to be wowed. Sadly, I was not at Petit Louis. The service staff was top notch as always but food was underwhelming. The Foie Gras terrine was identical to the one served at Milton Inn. Our waitress made it a point to state that the chef recommends the salmon be served med-rare and it came out well done. (Only a madman orders salmon or chicken at a restaurant but that's how my father-in-law rolls) When you think of Veal sweatbreads the words creamy and tender come to mind. I was served something dry and chewy that begged for some sort of sauce that would ease it down my throat. Also, for my fellow large mammals, Milton Inn and Petit Louis both have "Petite" chairs that make extended dinning experience uncomfortable.
What a restaurant. This is a gem in Baltimore that I wish I knew about sooner. My girlfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary there and were taken care of tremendously. The wait staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the Duck Confit recommendation by our waitress was one I was so happy to get. It was amazing. Highly recommend. Make a reservation and dress in business casual to feel at home with the patrons inside.
Beautiful Bistro ambiance. Friendly staff. Our waitress was very professional. Food was ok. Duck confit was crispy and tender. The appetizer butternut squash and shrimp was undercooked. Smoked salmon was very flavorful.
Brunched, somehow my first visit. Fabulous service and food, will need to be back soon for dinner. Steak was cooked perfectly! Escargot was scrumptious. Bubbles were delicious.
Fine dining experience without all the fine dining extras like dress code and insane prices. You can definitely spend a lot if you want but also can keep it within reason and enjoy a wonderful meal.
Loved it so much!!! I’ve always loved French cuisine and Petit Louis was just perfect. From the bread to the appetizer to the entree to the dessert—the service was excellent, too, plus the environment was lovely. A great place! The entree I had was the magret du carnard
If you are looking for an authentic French Restaurant....this is IT!! Paris is a special place to my husband and I, so having a meal at Petit Louis Bistro is a real celebration and as close to Paris as we can get in the U.S. The food is pure authentic French Cuisine. The wine selection is quite nice. We had a lovely rose`. We went with the prix fixe menu and enjoyed every morsel! The decor makes you feel like you really are in France! Very nice...we were just back yesterday and had a great time. Excellent!!
If you love french cuisine then this is the only place you should go. Delicious and very cozy.
The service was amazing. I randomly chose a French restaurant to try and was not disappointed. My server Natalie was so informative and friendly. The teamwork I witnessed while enjoying my meal was above and beyond. The cauliflower soup was so stellar I had to order one to go! Petite Louis has definitely gained a regular!
The environment was nice. But the overall service was really slow. Maybe it was a staffing issue as they were busy. We had to wait over 20 minutes for a table and the bar took ~10 minutes on our drink order while we waited.
The waiter read the chef specials and then when we ordered they were sold out. I ended up ordering a steak and it was okay. The fries and drinks were really good.
Overall, I felt like the food was overpriced. I doubt we'll go back.
One of the best meals I've ever had. The lamb steak was cooked to perfection and the profiteroles were excellent with the cappuccino. Also, get the still water instead of the normal tap water. You can definitely taste the difference. I will definitely come here again.
The wine list is the highlight of the restaurant. A wine gem in Baltimore. Dinner was fantastic, and our server was delightfully attentive yet non-intrusive. Dessert unfortunately fell flat, which is why I left a review today. Nothing more disappointing than a beautiful meal with sub-par pastry.
Great food, great staff. Beautiful place and ambiance. Families, friends and couples. I travel the world and Petit Louis is one of if not the best, a perfect mix of what I look for.
We have never had a bad experience here, today was no exception. Staff is great, entrees are a 10, soups are just wonderful. Will be back!
Always a favorite! The carrot soup is divine and the green salad is simple but delicious! A bit busy on a Friday night, but worth it.
Dont miss this place! Amazing French Onion Soup and the best duck Ive had!
Petite Louis is an old style french restaurant in quiet Roland Park location. Amenities include a traditional sommelier, cheese cart and poultry which is carved on a cart next to your table. The interior of the restaurant is characteristic of a french bistro, and the food is the best french cuisine you are going to find in the Baltimore area. Prices are high, but a good value for what you receive. Make reservations, as this place is usually crowded.
The food, service, and ambiance are top notch. A must visit for anyone looking for an amazing french meal
No reservations with two kids on a busy night? The manager deserves MVP for accommodating us. Dinner and desserts were as good as the remarkable service. Kudos for treating my family like a million dollars!
Wow. That's the only word to describe Petit Louis! I ordered the Duck Confit and think it was absolutely one of the most delicious, melt in your mouth, slabs of meat I have ever tasted. The service was exactly what you expect in a fine dining establishment such as this.
Friendly staff. Incredible food. Delicious drinks from bar. Me and every guy in attendance was wearing a nice Polo shirt, chino pants, and a semi formal shoe and every woman was dressed for an outdoor wedding of a favorite cousin. Experience is worth the unofficial dress code. The latte was the smoothest I've ever had.
C'est manifique! If you are a foodie in Baltimore you must put this on your list. Patrick the Maitre D' took great care of us and the Ambiance, Food & Champagne combined for an exceptional dining experience.
This is one of the best french restaurants I've ever been to. It's easily one of the best restaurants in the state and beyond. The staff is really good too. Very attentive, nice, knowledgeable, and just happy. Plenty of options for all sorts of diets and restrictions too. The inside is really cool and I'm glad they have outside dining as well. Also their brunch menu is awesome.
We've been having a wonderful time eating at the bar of Petit Louis this winter. The staff is all about service, and they also know their wines! This place is a neighborhood gem, and a throw-back to the days of good service and decorum.
Truly a jewel in Roland Park. This is our favorite restaurant and we go often. Everything is absolutely delightful from the decor, the food, and atmosphere. Always get the Gravlax, French Onion Soup, Steak with salad. Perfection each and every-time.
For the last almost 20 year this is one of our favorite restaurant period. The food is consistently great. The menu has had only a few tweaks over the years but who cares when everything is always so good. Service too is competent.
I can’t say enough about Thillman Benham(?) who we have been fortunate to have wait on us over the years. He is everything a waitperson should be.
We can’t wait to dine there again soo
Arrived Sunday night without a reservation and were met with a warm greeting and seated immediately. The food was delish and perfectly timed, the wine l choose was reasonably priced and enjoyable and the service was outstanding. We are regulars but haven’t been in awhile but this dine reminded us as to why we always love PL and we will return more often in the future.
Located in an unassuming group of shops, Sunday brunch with the family was a nice experience. Service was first rate and the food very good. The atmosphere has that French bistro vibe, so I think dinner would be a great night out.
My partner and I came to Petit Louis in mid August for the first time. Amazing bread, Gazpacho (was literally using the bread to wipe the bowl clean) and Duck breast. But the true winner was their short rib special plate they had for the night. For reference, I’ve eaten at a restaurant in DC that has a Michelin star for their short rib; THIS was better than that (and a lot cheaper too!) We’ve since moved across the country and I’m super upset we didn’t have a chance to come back. I STILL think of the meal we had and pray that when we are back in the area to visit family that the short rib will be back. It was that good!!
We had an extravagant lunch with french onion soup, escargot, pate and the wggplant napoleon. All of it was wonderful. I especially lived the eggplant. We finished our meal with the chocolate mousse which had too much whipped cream on the top. My only concern about the whole visit was the service was erratic and slow. So the service is the only reason for the 4 stars.
Everything was AWESOME, brunch was awesome toast with eggs might be a good idea
Wow, excellent atmosphere, service and food. WIfe and I had a great time . Steak, salad and dessert were amazing. Manager came over to check on us, offered suggestions and even treated us to a dessert for the table.
Great place for dinner, and well worth trip downtown.
Last week my wife and I had another perfect birthday dinner at Petite Louis. We have been there for many over the years. As always the service was exceptional and the food was incredible. It has been the only restaurant we have been to since COVID restrictions, but we have have done it three times because we feel so comfortable there. Be back soon!
Wonderful for special occasions, brunch, it just any meal that you want quality French cuisine. Always well prepared and an excellent menu. Tony Foreman's wine cellars are always exquisite. Treat yourself!
The French Onion soup is delicious and they have beautiful dessert bar.
Everything is always perfect. My favorite restaurant!
Longtime Baltimore favorite. A french bistro at the top of its game. Excellent classic dishes and very professional wait staff.
Cozy, comfortable spot perfect for a date night. Excellent food; outstanding wine list; helpful and attentive staff. I've never been disappointed. Just pricey enough that it's a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it. Probably not the place for vegans but there is some lighter fare for folks who aren't into really heavy French cooking. But if you want to be indulged this is a great choice.
This is a Baltimore classic for a reason. Nothing about this place is trendy, new, or exciting; it’s just an excellent French-American bistro with a vibe that’s upscale, yet comfortable. They’ve been doing things more or less the same way for years and I hope they’ll never change. There could not be a better place to take your parents for a fancy dinner.
Friendly staff and the food was incredible! We'll be back.
Awesome place as always! Excellent food, presentation, and service. Staff is well trained and even though it's a bistro, the service is fine-dining level. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because we went for brunch and they had Quiche Lorraine on the menu, which I was looking forward to, but it wasn't available this day. For me, in a French Bistro - French Onion Soup, Steak Frittes, Quiche Lorraine are must-haves. Other than this hiccup, it's pretty much always awesome!
The service food and cocktails were excellent. I went for Restaurant Week and had the escargot, perfectly seasoned with garlic and lemon, the duck confit, so good I wanted to eat the bones...but did not, and dessert was a pear tart, it was okay. The server was quick and she came back to check on the table often and the drinks were perfect. This place is in the permanent rotation.
Overall a good experience. Tight seating, food is ok. I love their tomato soup and service was good. Fries was salty this time around.
Classic fine dining at it's most approachable angle. Everything was perfect and delicious. Our waitress overheard it was my birthday the previous day and brought an extra dessert! I will be making a conscious effort to get back there soon.
This place, as one of the best in the city, can be pricey. Go for brunch/lunch, don't order wine etc. This place can be reasonable, you just have to make smart choices. Here's what I love.... Everything! I haven't ordered anything that wasn't executed perfectly! I've had the duck, croque madam, snails, mussels, and French onion soup! (More including sharing but I can't remember them all.) The service is excellent! Attentive but not over the top. Make a reservation!!!!!!
We had a terrific outdoor and safe dining experience. The food was delicious and the service superb throughout the evening. A couple of us took advantage of the amazing Restaurant Week menu, while others ordered a la carte. May not be Paris by the Seine, but definitely a wonderful experience!
Parking lot tables on black top. Better than nothing in a pandemic. Understaffed and noisy. We were four and had the pleasure of a leaf blower across the street, a Fire Ambulance and a helicopter overhead. Noise level under the tent made normal talking difficult. Quiche and salad - average. The Trout was delicious. Touraine summer wine overpriced at $40 ($25 tops to be fair). Highlight was the Creme Brulée which was superior.
Fantastic service and good food. Portion size seems to be traditional Parisian so don't expect to be stuffed. Wine selection is great. We like Tersiguel's a little bit better, but this is a good spot.
I could go on and on about how perfectly fabulous our dinner was, but you would be best served - and oh, so grateful - for going to Petit Louie and enjoying every detail for yourself. The food is as delicious as it is gorgeous. And The Service is top notch without pretention. They were not only accommodating (we did call last minute), but very helpful, attentive, and absolutely delightful - it was an evening well spent and I can't wait to go again [as soon as we're allowed - be well out there] .... à bientôt!
I have never been to anywhere like this place before. It was a, "meet the mom" kind of date that brought us here. It's a very busy little spot, close quarters dining, a little noisy with shuffling around people when all tables are filled, and ambiance type lighting.
It boasts a surprising menu that ranges from escargot and skate, to hearty vegetarian options. The waiters are well educated and professional, for a girl that has never had to choose from their caliber of wines, I got something that I was very happy with and went with my cheese cart selections perfectly off the direction of, "not to dry and not to sweet".
There is a small bar fitted with an amazing espresso machine, though we did not visit that side of the Bistro, you pass it while entering, which sets you up to be impressed. I really enjoyed myself at this spot, and yes the mom and I got along well, haha. It even calmed down in the dining area towards 8pm that Saturday, so the boyfriend and I stayed a while after his mom had left to discuss some ideas. The lighting was set to even dimmer, while us few left enjoyed our wine, and the romantic setting.
I recommend this place if you want to impress. The price is something to consider at about $18-30 a plate (from what I saw), but the food is AMAZING, try this spot at least once, I recommend the Scottish salmon dish!
The food...the service, both excellent! I met a friend for lunch we shared the beet salad, the country pate and the squash blossoms with shrimp appetizers. The beet salad was bursting with freshness, it was a party in my mouth. The crostini served with the pate was just delicious. We sat outside under an umbrella, there is also a tent. We'll be back for dinner!
Petit Louis does a very good job of replicating the ambiance of a Parisian bistro--the menu always has a nice variety of appetizers and entrees which are nicely prepared and presented and have a French flair. Service is usually attentive without being bothersome, but can be a little less attentive if the restaurant gets very busy. Sometimes the noise level can be a bit much, so don't expect a quiet meal here. After all, Americans tend to be much noisier than the French. Definitely would recommend this for dinner during the week.
Reservations at 8:30pm. After a brief wait my date and I were escorted to our table. The food was well prepared and flavorful. The wait staff were quick and efficient. Our primary server was Sam, who was engaging and knowledgeable. Considering the overall experience the price was a value. Highly recommend.
Came for restaurant week and everything about the dining experience was excellent. The duck confit was exceptionally bold in both flavor and mouthfeel and seems to melt on your tongue.
The servers were attentive and the food arrived quickly.
Overall, a fantastic experience that comes highly recommended.
The perfect date night place. I highly recommend the the creme brulee.
Absolutely charming and delightful spot. Amazing menu with an even better wine list. Definitely a must for a special occasion or date night.
Petit Louis is a pleasant bistro serving familiar French fare. My escargot were tender, but could have benefited from more garlic. The other dishes were well prepared. Their wine list is extensive. The service was not particularly attentive, even though we were the first table seated for dinner that evening.
Wonderful service and atmosphere. Food is one of the best
Excellent! Wonderful food, wines! Highly attentive staff! Pricey but worth it! Will return!
Good food and nice location!
The best French food in America! And such a humble and kind owner. I've never had such a fun and affordable happy hour before, and never with such incredible food! An ever-changing assortment of tiny little tastes of everything from squash soup to faux Gras, you get six small appetizers for $5 while you stand at the bar and mingle with other lovers of life. The two bartenders can handle everything while the owner comes by and shakes your hand. His French accent and friendly demeanor was such a lovely reminder of where the family on my grandmother side comes from.
This was my first foray into French cuisine. Some of the hors d'oeuvres were not my thing, but the duck breast I got was out of this Galaxy delicious. The service was impeccable. Very attentive and polite. Would probably come back, if I was feeling adventurous once more.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere, felt like a real French bistro. A winning formula for this place! Congratulations! I am coming back! Among big hits were duck confit, gravlax, potatoes Lyonnaise, frisee salad w. poached egg and lardons, pouilly fume. If this was the new "normal", I'm in!
SIMPLY AN AMAZING PLACE.
get the soup of the day, no matter what it is.
One of my favorite restaurants anywhere! We live in Tennessee, but visit family in Baltimore & travel fairly extensively. Petite Louis has the most wonderful people, service & food without being over the top. It is a true neighborhood Bistro. Any trip we make is not complete without at least one night at Petite Louis!
I would crawl over a field of broken glass to have Petit Louis Bistro's duck confit again. Luckily, the restaurant's availability means I won't have to! Petit Louis Bistro's menu feels like a veritable "what's-what" of French showstoppers. The cocktails and wines are obviously top-notch, granting me my annual fix of Chartreuse, and if for some crazy reason you've managed to leave room for desert you will not be disappointed. The last time we ate here we showed up at 6:45 on a gorgeous night with no reservations and were seated by 7:30 at one of the best tables in the house. 7 out of 5 stars type of restaurant.
This has been our birthdays, anniversary restaurant of choice until now. We have resolved to go at least monthly. The onion soup is splendid. The onion soup is the best I have enjoyed in 34 years of dining in fine restaurants. Everything is first rate +. I don't have the words to praise the deserts and the people who serve.
Petit Louis est toujours magnifique ! I always take advantage of their prix-fixe menu, as this restaurant is rather expensive, although worth it for the true Parisian feel and superb quality and preparation. Their carrot soup was divine as was the swordfish and the pastry. No room for the cheese plate but will go back and delight in that! Great service!
The evening was very nice, with many precautions taken to ensure diners safety during Covid-19. Since it was my birthday, I decided to choose Petit Louis because it has been recommended several times in the recent past. The food was very good with great execution, our Server was attentive and the space its self was great with warm tones of wood and red velvet banquets.
The one thing during the evening that was hard to over look was the "Truite Amandine". Though technically nothing wrong with the plate, staying true to the description on the menu. It essentially was a large portion of rice with a cooked piece of rainbow trout. The rice was slightly undercooked, also bland. The trout was fine, but sort of left me feeling I wouldn't order "Truite Amandine" if I saw it on a menu again.
I would absolutely go back to Petit Louis, in my opinion it is one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in Baltimore. Thanks to every one who was working that evening.
We went here for Dinner. Seated immediately, nice cocktails, Dan our server was wonderful and attentive to our requests. Rainbow trout was outstanding, atmosphere very charming like our server Dan!! We will be back again.
Pleased Pat!!
Service was great, not crowded and they followed CDC and Baltimore City Covid 19 protocols. Felt safe. They offered outside seating as well as inside. Food could have been seasoned better.
Ooh la la. Been eating, celebrating, entertaining, and drinking wine here since they opened 20 years ago. Consistantly delicious French food. Cannot not order the escargot. The duck maigret is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. Tremendous wine list. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. They never disappoint.
Consistently delicious. Everything is done well from decor to service to the cuisine.
Update: 7 years later. Nothing has changed. Still a loud fantastic French country restaurant. With impeccable service and attention to detail.
The food was indescribably amazing- their duck confit was just like I had in Paris. The creme brulee was to die for, and the service was beyond reproach. Very romantic atmosphere.
The wife and I stopped by here for dinner during this past Memorial Day weekend and we both enjoyed every second of our visit. The food, service, everything was amazing. We will be planning another trip to Petit Louis Bistro whenever we are in the Baltimore area again.
Petit Louis is amazing. It's pricey, but you know that going in. I love to go during the summer months for the vichyssoise. I would stay away from the omelette for dinner as there's so much more to choose from the menu. I highly recommend consulting the sommelier once you've decided what you'll be ordering from the menu, and trust that the wine will be amazing. The cheese course is perfection and if there are wine pairings associated with any of the courses, do it, you won't be disappointed. Cheers!
Servers - great!
Ambience - great!
Food - great!
Got the lamb with beets, and chocolate icecream. Best cooked meat I have ever eaten. My partner got the duck confit which he totally loved.
Place felt a little cramped but the place is so good that it must be shared with as many as possible. :)
While Petit Louis is not far from our home, it is a world class French Bistro for a full dinner, later evening bite, a meeting with a friend. It always is spot on. Fantastic meals, excellent service, warm environment perfect for a bistro with excellent cuisine. Merci Louis!
Eating here truly feels like a French experience. Fun, not stuffy! That French onion soup is a must. Everything is full of butter.... but YOLO.
Extremely well made food! Their soups, omelettes, chicken and other meats are very good. They keep well to the French name. If you are looking for a place to have dinner with your wife, friends or the whole family, I would pick here.
Food is excellent; noise is horrible; prices very high!
Dinner reservations were made via OpenTable for 7 pm, we arrived about 15 minutes and were greeted by the Maitre'd as soon as we walked in and seated immediately. The dining room to the left of the entrance is small but comfortable and busy. We ordered from the Restaurant Week Summer 2018 menu which was a 3 course dinner for $35 per person. We had the vichyssoise and eggplant croquettes for appetizers. Both were very good, the vichyssoise could have used a little herbage or some acidic relief from the silly and rich texture of the soup. The eggplant was a nicely crispy stack of thinly sliced eggplant, roasted tomatoes and goat cheese. For main course, I had the salmon which was perfect. Crispy skin to die for and perfectly medium in the middle with lovely silky buerre blanc sauce. My fiance was delighted with his duck with crispy, perfectly rendered skin and breast meat cooked medium as it should be. We enjoyed a cheese course before dessert which was expertly prepared by our waitress. Desserts were a great final sweet bite, he had the peach tart and I had the white chocolate mousse with cherry compote. Service was excellent and efficient, the dining room looks like a bistro in Paris, the Maitre'd greeted guests warmly. I expect nothing less from a Foreman Wolf restaurant. We would love to come back for a fancy, classy French dinner date night in the future. The regular menu features a great flyover of classic French bistro food, duck, chicken, steak, etc. Refined but not too pretentious as to be unapproachable for a variety of tastes. Thank goodness for butter.
So this is a destination restaurant, one that daniel boulard would call a gastronic restaurant, and I think that it deserves to be judged as such. It is not too expensive, nor is it too stuffy. It does get the atmosphere right. Buts it's service goes from superb, to lackadaisical jarringly. You can watch a bartender do his thing table side and pour a perfect martini in the dining room, and have a waiter stick his thumb in the salt and then leave the salt on the table (the right thing to do is apologize and remove it and place a new one on the table). Trust me, after we have watched you stick your thumb in the middle of the salt, no one really wants that any more. The food can be too heavy, heavy with meat fats, even for a french fare. But half the time, it also is brilliant. I think it is a fun place to go, but I also think they could do allot better if they wanted to.
First time at Petit Louis tonight and had a reservation for 630. We were told to wait at the bar. By 7 I’m getting frustrated so we ask what’s going on, Maitre D says the table for us has people who are just sitting around talking but we are the next up. 715 and he asks what kind of wine we would like for a complementary bottle, I tell him “I am pregnant so we won’t be drinking but thank you so much, I appreciate the gesture”. I hear him talking to another staff member about the situation and running around working. Meanwhile, we are patiently waiting (my husband stepped outside to check other restaurants availability to no avail) but frustrated and there are a lot of people waiting around the bar, either to be seated or drinking. We have a 18 old at home with a babysitter so we don’t get out for dates often and we were planning on spending a hundred or so on a 4 course dinner so I am trying not to get to annoyed. 730 comes and he profusely apologizes and says they are comping our whole meal and we will be seated shortly. A few mins a 4 top opened up and they rushed to get it ready to escort us over. I’m floored they give just my husband and I a 4 top because it’s so crowded and ask “are you sure you want to sit us here?” Maitre D says “Absolutely! We want you to enjoy your meal and take your time!” The waiter was great. The food was fantastic. Check comes to $125 and we aren’t sure what to do if we should just pay or say something to the waiter and before I know it the Maitre D comes over snags the check and says “we’ve got this, please just take care of your server. We hope the wait wasn’t too much of an inconvenience and that you come back soon!”. The way they handled this and the food is why I am giving 5 stars. I’ve been to other fine dining restaurants where they don’t even acknowledge that you have been waiting, with the arrogance of “your lucky to eventually get a seat”. We will go back. The French onion soup, muscles and creme brûlée were out of this world. Moral of the story, if your at a small crowded restaurant during peak dining hours, eat your meal then leave within a timely manner. Waiting around taking your time talking is an inconvenience to staff and other diners.
This restaurant is a local gem in our area. The french fare is fantastic and even the carry-out meals during covid are delicious. Please support our local restaurant favorites during these difficult times.
Fantastic authentic French cuisine. You may want to dress up just a little, we accidentally went in street cloths and stood out in the crowd. I would recommend making a reservation for this restaurant.
I had salmon on a bed of spinach. Both were done just right. The French Onion Soup is justifiably "famous." Service is attentive without being annoying. I do not mind paying more for superior food and service, which is exactly what we got there.
Petit Louis is the fancy French restaurant they show in old movies, where everything on the menu is written in French and the wine list is as thick as a novel. The wait staff is friendly and super knowledgeable, and you can literally order a giant cart full of cheese to your table, and just buy a crap load of cheese on the spot.
Holy crap everything on the menu is good, and the decor, oh my god you have to see this place to believe it. It looks like a hundred year old photograph inside and out. And I mean an actual French dude greets you at the door, with an accent and everything. All of the servers can really nail the description of how anything on the menu tastes too.
Just be ready to drop some serious dough, this place is every bit as expensive as it feels. If you want to leave really full, get an appetizer before your entrée, and if you want to get stuffed, get a dessert. Petit Louis is the kind of place you want a special occasion to go to, and I'll go there any excuse I can get.
One of my favorite meals in Baltimore. Petit Louis (while extremely busy on a Saturday night) has great ambiance, an extensive wine list, and delicious food. Perfect spot for date night.
Very enjoyable atmosphere. Great prefix menu. We always enjoyed it here
Delicious, if uninspiring fare for restaurant week. Wine pairings were on point but the mains were under seasoned. We had a good time and will probably return for drinks and light fare.
An absolutely wonderful dining experience. It was nice to see the restaurant busy at lunchtime at lunch time and the food was great and the service even better.
We had lunch here, my appetizer was great. But my meal was just OK. I had the ham and cheese sandwich. It was kind of bland to be honest. There are too many tables on the floor which makes it feel cramped even when the restaurant is not full. The service was good, but it's very expensive.
Great atmosphere, cozy and warm. Nice wine by the glass list and they give you a taste to make sure you like it first which is a nice touch. Food was excellent
Had a great Valentine's dinner here with wine pairing. All the meals and pairing were delicious. Can't wait to return to this place. Highly recommend.
What more can be said about this neighborhood gem? Exquisite food expertly prepared, professional service masterfully rendered, top-of-their-game sommeliers assisting one with the restaurant's extensive wine collection, all gel to make dining in this gorgeous old-world masterpiece of a setting a worthwhile and memorable experience. The only challenge is that the conversation level can get quite boisterous during peak hours.
Love the atmosphere of Petit Louis which ris like an old Parisian bistro. The food was incredible and service was good. The wait staff was very courteous, knowledgeable and friendly
I love Petit Louis. An utterly charming experience. Delicious food, excellent service, warm, welcoming atmosphere. You can have a special occasion meal, a romantic dinner, or a casual meal with the kids here. It's hard to describe how that can happen; just try it and see.
I took my wife here for date night a few weeks ago and it was a huge success. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was spot on. My wife ordered the Blanquette de Veau
and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life, we will definitely be going back for more.
Authentic and superbly executed French bistro cuisine, excellent wine list, top notch service. Petit Louis has been a reliable pleasure for years.
Food is really good. Wait staff was really helpful and very nice. Parking was kind of an issue is the only bad thing I can say about it.
The fois gras terrine and cheese cart could be my daily diet! My favorite place to eat and drink in the city! Service was fantastic as usual. Thanks for a great birthday lunch!
I actually feel the Columbia location that closed a year or two ago was better (especially the champignons, which was more buttery and truffle-y as opposed to the peppery and spicy preparation here), but I think it's still deserving of 5 stars.
Simply put C'est Magnifique
Fantastic traditional french cuisine with a top notch staff to add made the experience truly one-of-a-kind. The moment we walked through the door probably the coolest bartender we have ever had the pleasure of dealing with, Talia, was there to serve us with a deep knowledge of the many wines and spirits available to us she made for a more than warm welcome. Next came Mark who was bar none the best waiter we have ever had. Attentive and helpful the sense of humor made us at home and added to the fun of this cozy evening. Finally, after being left more than satisfied with our food (Order the escargot, as well as the Magret de Canard) Thillman came over and went over the various cheeses available to us to dine on which made for a great end to an illustrious dining experience. My S/O and I had a fantastic time and the ever difficult to please 93 year old grandmother we brought along with us had a very joyous time. Thank you very much to everyone that helped at Petit Louis Bistro. We will be back!
If you like meat, I mean meat cooked to perfection...this is your place...pork, beef, it's just amazing, and cooked to perfection...outside there's a great view of the Aquarium if you sit by the windows of Pratt St. It's kept very clean, and the is spot on!!! 5 stars in my book!!!
Came for breakfast and the sausage patty was not cooked all the way and needed more seasoning. Pancakes were good tho...the ginger cookies are soft and tasty but are expensive..
Excellent food. Friendly, professional service. Extensive wine list. A lot of fun in a great location!
The food is delicious and rich. The service is great and everyone is very knowledgeable of the menu. This is an experience as the tables are close together and they fill every corner.
My favorite French restaurant. The alluring ambiance and outstanding food quality you’d expect from such a beloved local icon. Don’t miss it!
Great food. Great service. We had our wedding anniversary dinner and we were extremely happy with a choice. Highly recommend.
We had to sit outside but it was very nice as always the food was excellent. I had the wahoo steak with mushrooms. And as much as I like the steak the mushrooms in sauce were excellent
The experience is always excellent at Petit Louis. It is one of those places that they could bring me anything on the menu and I would throughly enjoy it.
Delicious food! We ate COVID-style on the patio and they blocked off the tables around us so it felt pretty safe.
This has become the spot for celebrating my mother's birthday. It never disappoints. The food and drinks were fabulous. Our waitress was charming.
My wife asked me if I wanted to brunch At PLB for Fathers Day. I reminded her that I will never eat there again.
I had poached oysters there as an appetizer. I received a spoiled oyster that almost made me retch.
I called my waitress to remove the plate, and give me a sweet wine to clear the foul taste.
When I received my check for the meal the oysters were on the bill.
I was told the maître d' would have to adjust the check. He told me only one oyster was bad and he would take off for that, but I could pay what I thought was appropriate. I should have not paid for the meal, due to his grossly arrogant demeanor.
I took the oysters off the check.
I will never return to the establishment due to his attitude, and him placing the onus on me for the Chef's mistake. The mistake was amateurish and should have been caught in the kitchen.
No restaurant is so good that they should embarrass their guests for pointing out an indisputable error. Shame on you.
Petit Louis is our favorite of the Wolf Foreman restaurants. It's located in one of Baltimore's most beautiful neighborhoods. PL is styled as a Parisian bistro and often has a French sommelier or maitre d'hotel.
On our last visit we had great apertifs, hors d'oerves, and a bottle of red. Our main courses were Sweetbread (veal) and duck Confit. Both were outstanding. The duck was paired with yellow beets and the sweet bread had champignons. We finished the meal with 4 cheeses from the frommage cart. All were great.
It may be cliché but the French Onion soup and Escargot were fantastic, as were the wine and pate. Service was excellent too. Love this place.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere! Will return again and again.... Tried this for restaurant week and was treated as if it was a regular visit to a five star dinning experience. Each course got better and better....
Excellent food. Hard to find good waitstaff these days, but still an excellent experience.
Cozy yet refined atmosphere, wonderful staff and even after 20 years the food is always as good as I remembered: divine
Packed on Saturday night. Great vibe. Great service. Eggplant was the best. Generous desert. Wish I had room for the cheese table.
Stellar meal ! Foie Gras terrine, escargot and duck confit were sublime. Finished the meal with the strawberry tart and Opera cake. ..so, so good.
Great experience! Definitely recommend. We decided to try the two beef dishes (waygu and frites) and the waygu was the far better entree.
The veal was superb!
Service is always great and the creme brulee is why I love this place so much (among other great dishes).
Can't wait to go there again.
First time here. The restaurant is small, tables are closed to each other but the food is delicious. Perfect portion sizes.
Great wine selection!
Great French bistro with all the classics. Authentic, but for the prices, which are decidedly local. Can't blame 'em for that, though. Worth visiting.
We love Petit Louis! All of the food is excellent and the staff is very knowledgable about everything from wine pairings to cheese. I highly recommend this place!
The inside and outside dining areas are nice and the service is great. The prices I can't speak on because someone paid for my meal.
Classic menu, outstanding wait staff, and the best martini. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
This restaurant is unique and holds a special place in my heart. My favorite parts are the lighting and the cheese course. I just went for the second time and I’ll be back again!
One of Baltimore's finest. Been here 1000 times and never experienced anything less than amazing service and exceptional food. Soups are especially delicious.
Incredible. The French Onion soup was bliss. The Croque Madame was outstanding.
Great service and excellent food
Fantastic classic and innovative seasonal menus.
Great food, great wine, great service, great atmosphere. What's not to love? A hidden gem, well known to locals, well worth seeking out.
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Food and service are superior. Book early. You will not be disappointed.
Amazing food, wine, service, and atmosphere. Will definitely be going back.
french bistro food at its elegant, tasteful best. good wine list - though a bit thin on by the glass offerings. very good service.
Excellent french food and service. Pricey but if you want to go to a special place for a special reason (or not), I totally recommend this restaurant.
The duck leg confit was amazing
The food was delicious and the service was terrific. Everyone one there made the experience enjoyable from the moment we arrived until we left.
The complete dining experience. Tillman was wonderful and precise. The good was excellent and inventive. The ambience was perfect.
Pricey but great food and drinks. A place to treat yourself. Excellent staff.
The food was delicious and our server was amazing, but our hostess was rude and made me feel uncomfortable. Thankfully the experience was so much better after that.
Everytime it's a five star brunch. Can't recommend the shrimp beignets, mussels, service and really every classic on the menu
I had a terrific dining experience. The food was delicious and the service superb throughout the evening.
Excellent French cuisine; sadly the Columbia location has closed. Baltimore location ( the original) is still open and is well-worth the trip.
Everything looked and tasted amazing. The drinks and cheese cart just put it over the top. Perfect for date night or a celebration
Never really planned to be here but we are just so happy we were. Great food, place, and people. Awesome experience.
This has long been my favorite European style place to eat. Took my gf here for her birthday -- scored major boyfriend points! ;*)
It is indeed an interesting place. Not so much for my taste, but it's okay. The food is cooked in a special way. Too much ingredients.
Went to our favorite local place to celebrate a birthday. Food, service, atmosphere and all else one could want are at this local treasure of a place. Allez-y!
Charming neighborhood French bistro with excellent food wines and service. A warm, vibrant atmosphere, too.
Service is good. The food is good. The atmosphere is good. Parking is not easy. Most of the time you have to park a block or more away on the street.
Perfect steak. Great atmosphere. Impeccable service
Charming bistro atmosphere and great food. The service was comparable to the highest end French restaurants.
Excellent dinner! Service was outstanding!
Definitely our favorite French restaurant in Baltimore. We've never had a bad dish or experience here!
Amazing cuisine. Baltimore Restaurant Week
Overpriced and 4 of my friends meals were overcooked while mine was under cooked. And we ordered all the same temp.
So very French. A well balanced menu. Reasonable prix fix. Leisurely. A bit noisy. Great service.
Offers a good happy hour menu. A good upscale place in a nice and quiet neighborhood. Food and service are good.
Delicious!!! Our waiter, Matt, was attentive but not overly so. This place is a gem.
The fifth time we have been and finally we tried something other than the duck! Awesome as always! Thanks for another’s great evening!
We love Petit Louis. It is our go to for anniversary dinners, friends visiting town, or just, let's go out tonight.
Always the best!!! The service is always impeccable and the food always scrumptious!
Excellent food consistently. Perfect service. Not pretentious. Our yearly anniversary spot!
Great food and fantastic service. I got lunch with a friend but I would love to go back for a date night.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Staff is terrific, always engaging n friendly. Perfect place to go.
this self-important attempt at a french bistro is an affront to anyone who's actually eaten in paris. cindy wolf's underserved reputation brings lots of unsuspecting foodies to this uppity, overpriced imposter.
Delightful! From wine to salad to steak frites to apple oat tart! Will definitely come back!
Lovely hidden treasure of Baltimore. Excellent French food.
Great service and busy atmosphere.
The food was absolutely amazing a party in your mouth experience the staff were incredible restaurant was clean in a beautiful historic building

Petit Louis Bistro was very nice
Our first time eating dinner there and the food was delicious and very good!

Pricey, but well worth it. The best french food I have ever had.
A gem of a bistro where the servers actually listen and the food is made with care. It will be a sad day when places like this disappear.
The ultimate in French comfort food. Settle in, take a few hours, and absolutely take advantage of the cheese course!
