Reviews of Village Wayside Bar & Grille
Nicholas Rosetti
This place was amazing! Our waiter was very good and is a natural with customer service. My wife got the fish and fries and LOVED IT. I got the fettuccine Alfredo with blackened chicken and it was so good and fresh. Fresh food all around. Fresh tea. Definitely recommend. A ' must go ' to anyone in or visiting asheville!!
Joe Martin
Really amazing service, came on a Saturday evening for dinner and we were promptly served. Our waitress was very attentive and had our drinks and food out very quickly. We got a gyro and quinoa bowl. The quinoa was so good and the peanut sauce is amazing. Everyone was super nice and the restaurant has fun decor. If in the area I’d definitely come back.
Carolyn Johnson
Great atmosphere in a historical building. Staff was very efficient and friendly. Food was delivered quickly and was hot. Could not fault any of the dishes. The salmon was AWESOME and my son absolutely loved his burger. We also had the brisket and the chicken Al fredo.
John Zeglen
We had a great dinner here! Highly recommended. It was delicious. Brisket plate and Fettuccine Carbonara. We were only in town for the weekend, but I got the impression they stay very busy. No reservations, but they are quick with service and hosting.
It’s an informal, boisterous place. But the food was delicious and well presented.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you go. And you should!!
Matt
Such a great spot! We visited the first night in town and got there right before the kitchen was closing. No one cared we were coming in last minute. We were seated quickly and Molly was our waitress. She was amazing! Probably some of the best service we've had recently. The food and drink selection was wonderful and fast to get to us. I was happy to visit here and will definitely come back soon!
Dawn Reyes
Just got to town, popped in for a quick bite before checking into the hotel. Great food, simple surroundings. Only managed to grab a pic of the Curried Chicken Salad, but the Cheerwine BBQ wings, Ahi Tuna Tacos & Onion rings were awesome!
Ann Gallagher
Service was a little slow and my chair was sticking out towards a walkway for the servers which is the reason for the less than perfect rating. Food however was really yummy especially the coconut cream pie. I had the teriyaki salmon with veggies and really enjoyed it. 😋
Catherine Shawarby
Stopped for late lunch/early dinner. Friendly staff, variety of items on the menu. We both opted for the brisket plate, which was brought promptly. Nice, tasty and filling.
Ron Dwork
Great experience here in historic Biltmore. Food was above average, service was exceptional, and the drinks flowed. Matt was our server/bartender and he did an amazing job. Recommended pub. The owner even checked in on tables and made sure the customers were taken care of. Priced super reasonable! Especially for the locale. Very pleased with the experience.
Roger Parramore
Always in search of a good fish and chips and Wayside did not disappoint. Good sized portions, quality fish, well priced, and excellent service. An all around a good experience.
Caroline Donnelly
Everyone and Everything was perfect. From the initial greeting to the server and the fantastic beautifully prepared burgers and sides , excellent beer choices and very fair prices. Will definitely be back on our next trip through Asheville.
Sharon Finegan
Stopped in here as Well Bred was closed. That was great luck. Atmosphere, value for money and friendliness was the best. The burgers are fantastic! This is first choice in Biltmore Village from now on 😊 …
William Valentine
Friends in for late lunch; seating inside or out; we chose in due to the cooler breeze. Food (2 burgers, a BLT, a brisket plate, chips, onion rings, mashed potatoes) was excellent. The service was also very good. The prices were very reasonable. This was a great lunch in a restored, with some original character remaining, train depot. Try it, you’ll like it!
Garry McCormick
Interesting restaurant that offers pup fair food. This is in an old Southern Railway passenger train station. The restaurant has a nice sports bar charm to it but is pretty dark inside. The menu offerings are standard pub style but tasty. The nice find of tonight was the soup of the day which was french onion and tasty. The desert was one of there own, cheesecake/red velvet cake with buttercream frosting. I had the brisket with home made potatoes and toast. The brisket, while tasty was thin sliced and I prefer thick (really thick). Wife had steak and french fries. Nothing special but it was ok.
Anne Shelton
Perfect! The service is outstanding. Kay brought our food after Nick had taken our order. Both were fabulous. My glass was never empty, the food was phenomenal. I had fish and chips and the batter was perfection. Dan had fettuccine carbonara and it was cooked to perfection as well. Definitely will be back. For an appetizer we had the buffalo wing, outstanding!
Darrin Bergman
Decent food, but we had to hunt for parking, wait too long for our first round of cocktails, and wait forever for our final tab. My guess is they are understaffed.
Erin Daves
Great spot!! Hidden gem!! The history of the place being an old train depot to the incredible food and the impeccable service… this place literally has it all. Josh was our server and he was such a treat to talk to… do yourself a favor and ask josh his menu favorites. You won’t be disappointed. My husband swears the depot burger was the best he’s ever had.
Rob Gravis
Great ambiance. Food was good. Service was good. Would definitely go back.
steve malloy
I am on the road 4 days a week every week and and always looking for a restaurant/bar that makes you feel like home.
This place is amazing. I have been here 10 times and keep coming back. They have a stuff cabbages roll which are awesome. There wings are great.
But most important is Kate. She is the bartender that remembers you.
Highly recommend great local place.
Jennifer Goddard
Great food and fantastic service! We have been a few times now on vacation and bartenders are wonderful! Great vibe
Kaylagh Slaven
Service was great. I love their slogan and everyone was super friendly. The wings were delicious, crunchy and well seasoned. The fries were a little on the greasy side for me but still decent. I would stop back in to try what else is on the menu for sure
Jack Stephens
Very impressive place with great food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. The restaurant is located in a former train depot built in the late 1800s. This gives the restaurant quite an authentic historic atmosphere. I had the Wayside Cheeseburger and it rates as one of the very best burgers I've had anywhere. All the food I had was excellent. The margaritas were great as well. The service was excellent. The cost is also reasonable especially considering how expensive most restaurants in Biltmore, as well as downtown Asheville, are. I highly recommend Wayside and I will be back.
Melissa Chandler
Great place to eat. Went there for lunch today for my birthday with dear friend. They have cheerwine on the menu and the food was delicious. Also liked the atmosphere of the place. Will definitely go back. For Asheville reasonably priced. Also had dedicated parking spots which is necessary for that area. Very good experience.

So I fly from Buffalo to visit a buddy who just bought a house up in Walnut Cove . He takes me to this bar that is typical of the bars in Buffalo . We drink at the bar while waiting for a table. Waiting for a table is always a good sign ! Great food and service...cheap too ! So go there and wait for your table.
Nikki Skye
Simple food served perfectly. They also have some more unique choices but we kept it simpler. I had the Depot Burger and it was amazing. The Onion Rings were fluffy, juicy, but not greasy. All of it tasted great and won't break the bank.
Charles Eggers
The food, drinks and service were very good. Classic neighborhood pub feel but in a very cool part of Asheville. The choices of unique sandwiches and entrees were great. We got a burnt end burger and Cuban cowboy (basically with brisket instead of pulled pork). Drinks were a good price for Asheville and the Fuentes Colada (Coconut rum, Pineapple juice and Kahlua) was great. The server was very nice. The food and drinks was only $40. Great spot in Asheville.
Susan Collier
Cool pub & grille. Loved the atmosphere. Service great. Everything was good and nicely prepared. Had = French onion soup, fish and chips, and a gyro.
rubenprez
Amazing! Loooove the Carbonara with Beef. We went the second night again because there were so many things that we wanted to try. Duck wings, chicken wings, burgers, and the pasta carbonara. Everything delicious.
Al Stoffa
Potsy's Piggy's, stuffed cabbage, were delicious. Real mashed potatoes. Craft beers on tap. Nice atmosphere, excellent service. What's not to like?
Maureen Hope Norton
Kinda mediocre, but they do seem to have quite a few regulars who seemed excited to dine there, but me being an out of towner, I wasn't that impressed after just visiting the one time. Good and friendly service though, food was just a bit on the boring side, but over all nothing bad about this place
Cindy Cyr
I would say more 3.5. Service is always good here. Food is just average. Great local dive bar. But beware, bar is very small. Again. Always great service at bar or restaurant.
Michelle Raines
Wayside has been around for several years. It’s a fun spot to enjoy delicious food and beverages in the historic train depot in Biltmore Village. The sweet potato tots are wonderful!! Superfood salad with or absent choice of protein, fish n’ chips, homemade soups, beef tips with hummus and so much more. If you’re wandering through the Village, stop in for a bite and you’ll see what I mean! 😜
Stephen Ellis
This is a great place to get some really good food. It has a great vibe and the staff is awesome. It was hopping when we visited, so we sat at the bar to eat and I enjoyed seeing the interaction between the bartenders and the customers. The food was excellent and I had what are probably my favorite onion rings ever.
Macie Myers
The food here was very good! I got a TOP sandwich which is a Turkey sandwich...it had so much Turkey on it like you pulled it off the Thanksgiving turkey with homemade potato chips. I love that they dont sell coke or Pepsi products..lol..I drank diet rite soda...and it was great..this place is a historical stage coach depot I think...very cool...the waitstaff is fantastic and the service is fast.
M. G.
So awesome! The service was great, the atmosphere was fun and more importantly the food was really tasty. Super crispy fries and very flavorful burger. Loved the steak tips and humus. Great lighter portion and very delicious.
David Shuler
Mid week treat. I met Morgan there for supper. We set outside on the patio. It was a wonderful evening. Our waiter was Zach. He was a wonderful and took great care of us. I ordered the Wayside Burger, with fries and a coke. Morgan had the Fettuccine Alfredo with beef tips. Great service and excellent food. In Historic Biltmore Village.
Maxwell Hoch
Great bar and grill in an old railroad depot within historic biltmore village. Food Is inventive enough to really push the boundaries of pub food. We had the pasta with steak medallions and the cowboy Cuban! Both were incredible 👏. Nice little patio out back where the trains used to pick up passengers! …
Mike Hillis
My wife loved the fish n fries and my pasta was great.5 minute wait on a Friday night. Waitress was awesome.
Bill Martin
We only stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. Beer and cider were good, but I don't recommend the Fetachoke dip. It separated and was not creamy as advertised. Service was good.
Matthew C
placed a carryout tonight for perogies and punchkees (Waited all year for this!). I called back as I had to cancel my order due to someone hitting my truck. To the guy who took my call, I'm sorry I came off short. I was pretty heated. Hope you didn't take it personally.
Vicky Putman
Good service, great food & drink. Located in old train depot & train went by while we were there. I had been craving salad for days & what I got was fabulous & FRESH. Hubby got a burger & homemade fries.
Lucas Reuling
Food was good. Prices are reasonable and the staff is very nice. I have had better brisket, but theirs was still pretty good. And the coconut cream pie was more of a coconut custard pie, but still delicious
H Lollar
Exceptional lunch food. I had the Cuban Cowboy which had their home-cooked brisket and pork. My husband had the Wayside burger. Both were fantastic choices! The service from Molly was also very good! Very attentive and sweet! The building is an old train Depot, so it is a fun place to look around. I would definitely eat here when visiting again.
Julie Stevens
Awesome bar with good food. I was solo on this trip and the bar tenders made me feel so welcome. I can't say that about any other bar I went to while I was in Asheville for this trip, so it was much appreciated. Their recommendations were spot on and my drink never went dry. The train come through a couple times. The local traffic was great and the food was good. I had the buffalo wings (the sauce was ok but the wings were meaty and the blue cheese was great). And the fresh cut fries which were great!! Next time I'll get them loaded. I'll be back.
Nicole Pouncey
First time coming here, and the food was amazing. The bartenders name who was working was Josh, I believe. Had semi-colon tattoos on the back of his arms. Super personable. Regrettably, Josh had an A-Hole customer that could have ruined his whole mood, but instead took a quick step outside to reset, and came right back providing excellent service. Would definitely come here again. The atmosphere is wonderful too, I bet around Christmas time the scenery is to die for!
Jodie Schatz
I have never written a review before but felt compelled to do so after our experience last night. Every employee was pleasant and welcoming as we entered at 8:45 pm. I was nervous to order dinner as the kitchen closed at 9 but everyone was SO nice and genuinely happy to help us! The food was great, and my husband and I were happy to have a cocktail after a day of traveling. The staff even helped with suggestions as to where to go for breakfast in the morning. Thank you all!!
Robert Nash
Friendly and very good service. The restaurant is located in a former railway station. It makes for a fun atmosphere. We had a brisket sandwich and a hamburger. Both were delicious. We'll go back again.
Gerard Bush
Do not order an Old Fashioned. Maraschino cherries have no place near good Bourbon. It's like having a fine filet with ketchup on it.
chris gignac
One of the very few places in Asheville a reservation wasn't required to enjoy a great local brew and chef inspired food. The place is pretty cool, it's a converted railway station.
Benjamin Mayer
Friendly helpful staff. Variety of lighting, from well lit in the front with large windows or outside seating to more central seating with a more cozy feeling. Both meals we had were great.
Carolina Elite
Great service from the host to the servers! My alfredo was pretty good, could have used a tad bit more seasoning. Best garlic bread I've ever had, even from Italian restaurants. Loved the Peach-Hibiscus Tea. Hubby liked the chicken tenders. I'd recommend you try this restaurant.
Christine Mikan
They had the best fish and chips! Lots of menu options amd a fun and friendly atmosphere! We will go back next time we are in Asheville!
Mark Owen (Merlin)
Good food, reasonable prices. Great service. Had my first Cheerwine soda, black cherry with plenty of fizz.
Deidre Webber
The cold hot dip is delicious. We got two quarts and took it back to the hotel. Everything we ordered was good down to the deserts.
Cheryl Bono
Amazing food and service. Highly suggest eating here. It's an old train depot. It's super adorable.
Kerry Hill
Very cool place, cozy atmosphere
Sean Alabaster
Been here a few times over a handful of months. Great service and awesome hamburgers/fries! Properly good to med rare as requested each time with proper seasoning. Fries seasoned properly as well every time. If it’s a great burger you are looking for stop in. I would imagine all items listed on the menu are great as well. Enjoy!
Montaya Cross
Overall everything was great. My partner had the salmon with the delicious vegetables & I had the steak fritas and both were delicious. We also tried the duck wings for the first time which was very tasty. I even go dessert which topped my night. Can not remember what it was called but it was layered and cheesecake was involved lol. The waitress was GREAT!! Thank you for a great experience and drinks!
Debbie Homa
Love it here! Food is great. Best ranch dressing anywhere! (You definitely need to try the Wedge Salad with grilled chicken added and their ranch dressing) Service is outstanding and friendly. Kate is always our server and she rocks! Save room for dessert - that is a must! All the desserts are delicious and homemade. Can't wait til our next visit! ❤
Jay Curley
Excellent food good prices and great service, located near the main gate of the Biltmore mansion complex.
Mac Adelman
Great place for a casual meal and good food. The wings were pretty solid, and the burger that I had was really good. The prices were very reasonable, especially for the amount, and quality, of food that you’re getting. Our waitress was very friendly and responsive, and she also gave us some great recommendations for things to do/see while in the Asheville area. I’d definitely recommend Village Wayside to friends in the Asheville area!
Jame Andy
Excellent food, very good service and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
Aaron Dunn (Big Twig Homes)
What a great find! We were walking around Biltmore village and found this gem of a brew pub. The food and service was excellent.
K T
We had a very good dinner here. Reasonable prices & it's in the Biltmore Plaza with nice shops & park area with the Biltmore Estate just down the avenue. The building was originally the train station for the Vanderbilt family. Nice pub atmosphere in the bar area. Good food, great desserts & a friendly staff.
CRAIG KEILBACH
Great variety of tasty food, beer and alcohol. Great service. Hannah is professional with a great personality.
Sara Miskin
Easily one of the best places I've eaten. We found this place after leaving the Biltmore. We wanted a locally owned type place with great home-cooked taste as well as uniqueness. Price wise was awesome looking online and then we knew something was special seeing all of the cars parked outside at 2 pm. Our waitress was very helpful and courteous. We had the steak frites with garlic parmesean fries and the smoked brisket with cheerwine BBQ sauce and mashed potatoes. We ordered a side of sweet potato tater tots that melted in our mouths!! Our food was the perfect amount and tasted amazing with each bite. The cheerwine BBQ sauce was perfection. This was our second time to Asheville and we will definitely be returning to Village Wayside Bar and Grille!!
Federico Crosa
Very nice and good Bar , with nice service and foods.
Alec Y
Dining at this fine establishment was only second to my decision of salvation. Joshua, my love, miss you always 😔 …
Wayne J. R. Bowser
Delicious food, great service, friendly staff and clean restrooms. The building is ancient, but because of its historic value, it will never be torn down, which is nice.
Tried the soup of the day, broccoli, which felt good on my sore throat...don't worry, I don't have covid!
Dad had the burger and those famous HUGE onion rings...he walked out happy, we'll as happy as he gets, anyway. The wife shared her BLT, loaded with bacon, and I shared the bar taco things which had the ahi tuna, very good!
Ginger Wolfzorn
Great food! We had the salmon and white fish & fries and out dinner was hot, fresh and we had great service from Hannah! Highly recommend!
Cheryl T.
Very good food and service. Loved that it was an old depot.
Richard Fisher
We stopped for lunch at Village Wayside. They were busy but we we seated at a lovely table in a room with train photos and artifacts. After getting some cold drinks, the server promptly took my order of Fried Whitefish Filets and fries, and my sister's Ceasar Salad. Our orders arrived mine piping hot and the salad chilled.
A freight train sounding the horn while passing the restaurant was perfect.
Ambiance, food , service made a great lunch.
Lonnie Shook Jr CPA
Great pub food. Turkey wings were delicious. They would make a great entree with the fries.
Teresa Bichsel
Went there because it was only restaurant in Biltmore Village open after 7pm. The food was good, and service was great. They were pretty busy on a Thursday night. This place was a really pleasant surprise!
Alice Oneder
We loved this place. Where to start on why. Open late. Great local craft beers. Great old tyme drink selection like Diet rite,RC cola, Cheerwine, 7uP, grape Koolaid and more. We had Cheerwine Bbq brisket and cabbage rolls stuffed with the most flavorful filling, just melts in your mouth. The menu was chocked full of wings, fish and chips, tuna tacos, burgers of all unique varieties. We want to come back here asap. The prices were so reasonable. My brisket was under 11.00. For being smoked over 8 hrs in house, o m gahhh. The atmosphere was much better than any other nostalgia evoking restaurant we went to like it. Just really enjoyed it.
Candy Monroe
One of our favorite places to eat in Biltmore village.. The food is always good and the homemade desserts are always AMAZING! Wayside layer cake pictured!
Melanie Nichols
Great lunch!!! Everything was fresh and delicious. We'll be back.
Robert F Prettyman
Great food and service at very reasonable prices in a restored train Depot in Asheville. We enjoyed a few glasses of Pinot Grigio, a Caesar Salad, Fettuccine with homemade Meatballs and Marinara Sauce, Fettuccine Carbonara with marinated Beef Points, and for dessert - Coconut Cream Pie and a Salted Caramel iced cupcake -yum!
Corey Webster
Our new favorite restaurant in asheville! We've gone 3-4 times and always come away stuffed and satisfied. This time we decided to try the "hummingbird pie" and it was one of the best desserts I've had in a long time: creamy, but not oversweatened frosting atop a delightful honey, pecan, pineapple cake that leaves you searching for every morsel. I cant wait to try and make it at home, but I'm definitely ordering it again next time we're in the area. Outstanding!!
William Wilcox
It has been a while since we ate there due to covid. Went there tonight and was not disappointed. Great meal and great service! So glad to be back!
Dillon Lynch
Took a friend here for her birthday and was pleased by the quaint atmosphere. Service was kind and cocktails were delicious and fresh. I had their signature turkey and it was one of the most uniquely tasty things I've ever had!
K Rad
All of the food here is super good, i recommend to anybody. We absolutely devoured these meals
Laurie deVegter
Friendly staff, cold beer, and reasonably priced consistent cozy comfort food.
Jean baker
This is such a great place to eat, Hannah was our waitress and she did a great job!!!! I would definitely recommend this place, food was so good!!
Rob Barber
My wife told me about Village Wayside. I was craving a burger and they had them. Very tasty. The service was great and the burger was really good. My wife had curry chicken salad and she was pleased. I'll definitely be going back again. I want to try the fish and chips next.
Adair Owen
Excellent food, atmosphere and servers!!! Food was hot and tasty and well proportioned. The onion rings and sweet potato tots were outstanding!! And our BLT’s Burger and cowboy Cuban were also!!
Robert Cohen
Great little spot with excellent food and lots of drink options. If you like to add a little liquid heat be sure to ask for the hot sauce tray. It's about the size of a large metal pizza sheet and almost completely covered with bottles of hot sauce. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. Attracts a mostly trendy, local crowd. This unique location used to be a train station and the tracks are still actively used. There is a designated smoking area where the platform would have been on the back side. Due to the nature of the interior (and alcohol consumed by the patrons) it can get quite loud inside. Later the noise often becomes a deafening din that only a passing freight train is able to match. Around the side and front there are seating options that afford the ability to converse at normal speaking volume. Though perhaps not standard review fare, the men's restroom is a good example of some of the little touches. It's thoughtfully designed to include a little ledge above the urinal (likely to help discourage setting your beer on the antique windows). And, I mean come on, they put a sticker with their logo on the restroom cleaner. What's not to like? Whimsical? Yes. Quaint? Check. Fun & friendly, good food and drink. Boxes all ticked.
Gene Austin
Great service from Hannah and the food was delicious!
Max Ganly
Always fantastic. Here's a quick pic of the Pad See Ew (minus the shrimp due to allergies).
Heyward Evans
One of the best food experiences I’ve had outside of communion in church.
Yekaterina Degtyareva
Love this place!!! Order them beer battered onion rings!!! Amazing! All of the sandwich options are amazing!!!
Eric Schneider
Went with some friends, everything was great! Great place to start the weekend!
Marvin Wolf
Interesting menu, excellent food, good service. Only downside is that it's on a busy street with limited parking. Great place for lunch or dinner. Nice people.
Pam Whittington
Wonderful service, great food…the BLT was one of the best I’ve ever had! Red juicy tomatoes and delicious bacon. I got the homemade chips as a side and they were delicious. The staff was friendly and working hard to take care of everyone with a smile. Thank you for an unexpectedly wonderful dinner!
Marina Royter
We are new in Asheville and trying places in the neighbourhood. Just went here with my 3.5 year old and we had a nice late snack. He had french fries and I tired tuna tacos. The food was great, and the service was almost better. The food arrived super fast fast and the staff was very nice. That goes a long way. I really appreciate that!
J. Matthew Lucas
Locals seemed to love this place, but I found the food very okay at best. That said, the food and the drinks were very cheap, so at least you’re not breaking the bank, which you can very easily do at other restaurants in the area.
Samantha Franks
What a great little place to eat! It was SO crowded when we were there that we weren’t able to eat inside and got our food to go, but it was delicious, and the service of the hostess was great. She was super friendly and upbeat.
I got “Hummus Dragged Through the Garden,” and it was absolutely delicious, and way too much food for just me. I highly recommend! Even my husband who normally has to have meat at every meal loved this dish. Of course, they have a ton of other options too. I’m sure everything is good!
Lauren Weathers
Great food & service. Super convenient to shopping & the Biltmore. We highly recommend. Really enjoyed their grilled cheese.
Christine Hayes
Great experience here!! Food, drinks, atmosphere!! All excellent!! We had great service from all staff!! Thanks guys! We will be back and will tell our buddies!!
Eric Stevie
Good above average pub food. Attentive staff and decent prices. Worth a stop if the mostly American fair is what you are in the mood for.
Vivian Bullion
Delicious BBQ brisket. Perfect portion sizes. I didn't feel overstuffed and I didn't feel like I didn't get enough. Friendly and quick service.
Lynn Dudenbostel
Had lunch here today and the food and service were excellent. I would certainly go back again!
Aletta Lane
Fresh, tasty food and fantabulous service! I had the steak frites and the garlic parmesan hand cut fries were great! The steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend!
Elizabeth Edgington
Great experience. We had a group of 6, and not one person was upset with their meal. Great service, great food. We had a few different burgers, all wonderful. I got the fettuccine carbonara, and exchanged the beef for chicken, it was amazing. Next time we are in asheville we will definitely come back!
Gail Hyde
My husband and I are long-time patrons of this place. We love the food, the coziness and comfort, the friendliness, and that the music is not played so loud that it drowns out conversation (as it is in many places). The setting is historic, the drink selection is very good, and the hours are adequately late. Our HUGE PROBLEM now is that for years we've gone on Tuesday night after our International Folk Dancing, which has finally started back up since its COVID shut-down, but the Wayside is currently not open on Tuesdays! 😧 I am impatiently waiting for when it will be again!
Diane Nunley
We had lunch here before going to the Biltmore.
It was an excellent choice. It had been recommended by our innkeeper at the Lion & Rose B & B.
There were 4 of us in our party. We started with the Beer Cheese soup and it was very tasty. We had various sandwich’s and they were very good. The onion rings were the best we have had anywhere. The desserts were a perfect ending to our meal.
Cindy Davenport
Love this place. It is fun in the bar with the greatest bar keep. Great sense of dry humor. Food gets better each time we come in.
Try the handmade cabbage rolls...delicious! Also the burgers and fish.
Note: closes after lunch at 3pm and reopens at 5 pm. Bar always open!
Great tradition in Biltmore Village in the old train station.
See you there!
.
Don Casterline
Terrific service, fantastic food. So good!
Pam Moultrie
We LOVE to eat here! Service was great and food is always delicious. Started eating here when it was The Depot Restaurant. It was good then and it STILL is!!
Jim Nichols
We went there for a late dinner around 8pm on a Tuesday night. We were greeted cheerfully by the host and even more so by the waitress. She was outstanding! On top of great service, the food was great. My wife's meatball sandwich and onion rings were really good, but my Wayside burger was over the top. Definitely one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Go you will love it!
Melissa Kepler
Food was great, location was great, atmosphere was great! My only complaint is that the staff was a bit rude. Our server was very brief. Drinks, food, bill, and that’s it. We came after what appeared to have been a rush, so that could have been it. Otherwise, the food definitely made it worth the trip!
Laci
Two kids. Two adults. Early dinner. Such wonderful service and food! They have a lot of beer options. We ordered steak tips and hummus and French onion soup, cowboy Cuban sandwich, kid's meals were grilled cheese and spaghetti and meatballs. Everything was exactly what I expected. Nothing weird about the grilled cheese. Parents know what I mean. My kids are picky, so, it matters. Quick wait. Nice server. Great food. Highly recommend! Oh, don't skip dessert. The homemade desserts are amazing. Literally, the best peanut butter pie I have ever had and I am from the south.
Chelsea Johnson
Pretty solid food, basic options so they have something for everyone!

The food was excellent and the service from our waiter, Chris, was superb. The Super Foods Salad minus the Caesar dressing and plus beef tips topped with olive oil was perfect for my Paleo-modified diet and very tasty. My daughter enjoyed the Fish and Chips. My husband enjoyed the beef brisket with mashed potatoes. We will return. Expect a small wait outside due to necessary social distancing. They do, however, have tables outside and inside.
Thomas Driscoll
Great bar staff. Quick with a joke or to light up your smoke. There's no place I'd rather be.
chrissy mcginnis
Always great food! Never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. The ahi tacos are to die for.
Jerri Etienne
We came at a busy time of night, had to wait over an hour but we enjoyed drinks from the bar and sat outside and enjoyed the night until it was our turn. Once seated we were introduced to our waiter which quickly took our drink order and came back soon to take our order. Food was good, staff was friendly, wasn’t too expensive. We will definitely be back.
TLynn G
Always delicious....love it here...probably our go to at least twice a month...
Johnathan Heredia
Amazing customer service! The drinks are poured correctly and not watered down. We had the Cabbage Rolls which my friend went out of the norm and she loved it! Batter fish and chips was incredible! We were seated and served in less than 20 minutes! If I lived here it would be an every weekend deal.
Cadaver Doe
I've always had great service and great food here. The deck can be uncomfortable to sit on when the sun is going down though.
Jeff Giroux
There were seven of us that ate, our experience wasn't terrible but me and my brother in law got a burger that was ok and everyone else's was just ok, my son said he loved the chicken tenders. Overall it wasn't bad but nothing to brag home about one knock was the sweet tea was empty awhile before they came to refill and we asked two different waiters for warm water for a baby bottle, no one ever brought us one, we had to go get it ourselves. I wouldn't go there again.
Hunter Veritas
Do you forget sometimes what it’s like to feel welcomed? Like truly and sincerely welcomed? I know I do. In fact, I didn’t even realize that feeling was missing until I went to Wayside. The service is fantastic. Now I return more for that welcoming feeling than the food - which is solid pub food. Great burgers. Hand cut chips are amazing. And the bartender is great too!
Michael Long
Had a great meal here. Molly was an excellent server. The burgers were delicious and the fries and onion rings were epic!
Carole Nickerson
Every single time I get food here it’s delicious. I’ve never had a bad meal. When friends and family have come to visit (pre-covid) this was always the first place I took them. Prices are on the high side but you get better than what you pay for. Every time. The bartenders are wonderful too, full of personality and made me laugh just while on the phone ordering food!
John Ferraris
Only had burgers but they were great and many dishes going by looked delicious. Gluten free options.
Scott Merryfield
This place was recommended to us by the Hampton Inn we were staying at, as it was within walking distance. The food was excellent -- everything is made on site. We both had the TOP sandwich, and it was very tasty. The macaroni salad as a side dish was also very good. They have a nice selection of craft beers, too.
Your CarGuy
The atmosphere is always very fun and the food is always delicious. You cannot go wrong with their version of cabbage rolls, the are amazing. Their brisket is very good as well. The building is right next to train tracks so that is cool as well. They serve their dinner menu till 11pm I think and they have a late night menu too
Gina DeFranco
Definitely had high expectations of this place. It’s really cute - agree with other posters, it has the dive bar feel. The menu is varied and interesting. We started with the “Pork Wings”, which were pretty good. The sauces were good, the meat was cooked well, but not too well. The drink of the day was missing lime the first go around. I ordered Steak Frites and my daughter ordered the BLT with sweet potato tots. My meat was cooked perfectly, but had no flavor and the texture was not there either. The fries were not crisp, as has been mentioned in other posts. My daughter’s sandwich was good. The tots had great flavor but needed to be in the fryer just a little longer. The service was great, also as mentioned previously. Everything else just missed the mark! We went across the street for dessert and had a much better experience in terms of food.
NN GMAIL
Real hometown atmosphere with lots of folks having fun. The server was all over us in a great way. Beer and food selection was just right; happily satisfying my party of four. Prices were excellent!
Katie Sollenberger
An Asheville staple. The drinks and food are priced so reasonably, and everything is REALLY good. Parking can be tough, like anything in Biltmore Village, but it's not to be missed.
Tsunami Wombat
Very nice local restaurant. Very good service, eclectic and reasonably priced menu with some unique foods as well as standard pub fare. Clean well supplied bathroom. Very good service, personable and polite and able to make recommendations.. A very good choice for lunch or dinner in the area, especially given how pricey the Biltmore village can be. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Beau Fletcher Youngblood
Amazing food, brilliant and engaging staff. Very busy for lunch, expect a wait. It's not on them, things are as they are right now.
Good stuff on every level. Good stuff indeed.
Cynthia Weant
GREAT food, and the service was fast. Prices are good, and then found out the bartender's mom was from the same birthplace of mine! So, needless to say, friendly chat with the locals, too. Parking is in front, so that was convenient.
Karen SiZer
Great place for dinner. Food was outstanding. Had smoked brisket with mashed potatoes. Everyone in our party was pleased. Moscow Mule $4.50. Drink special on Thursday. Any vodka drink
Service was amazing. Very friendly. Had an infant in a high chair very accommodating. Loved it so much we ate there again before we headed home from our vacation.
Lindsay Gibson
We had a great experience. The bartenders are amazing and the food was delicious. Last minute decision for lunch and we were so pleased with our choice. We may be back before our trip is over.
The Bored Trucker
The other reviews pretty much cover it!! The food and service are amazing!! My buddy and I are fans of trains, so the atmosphere is ideal with a window table almost on the tracks!!
Speaking of service: At one point, my glass was about halfway down. I got distracted by something shiny, looked back, and the glass was full. I believe our waiter is samurai!
Emmalie Knoll
I got the lombardis pasta and meatballs with a side of mashed potatoes.. it was absolutely amazing. i recommend putting the meatballs and mashed potatoes on the garlic bread!! Definitely come back here for more when i visit town again!!
Laura Greene
Great food, walking distance to shops and parking, great beer selection.
cindy conley
There are a variety of salads sandwiches and other entrees to appeal to everyone. Found an unlikely lunch selection of stuffed cabbage Hungarian style that was absolutely delicious. Another person in my party had beef brisket that was also very good
jeanne Patitsas
Wonderful food. Wonderful waitstaff. Beautiful outdoor seating.
Michael Zinke
The service by the wait staff was excellent. The craft beer list was decent sized and reasonably priced. The Wayside burger was better than average for a bar and grill and is worth having. The salad was disappointing though and would not recommend.
Joe Chom
We stopped at the Wayside after a full day of exploring the Biltmore estate. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I got the Cajun burger and my wife got the special of the day which was a meatball sandwich along with an appetizer of the CBR fries. The the fries were extremely delicious, crispy, and very fresh. My burger was cooked perfectly and had a subtle yet amazing Cajun flavor. My wife’s meatball sandwich was extremely flavorful as well. The wayside also features and beer and wine list with several beers from a bunch of the local breweries. The beers we got were extremely refreshing and delicious and went well with our meals. I would definitely recommend stopping by the wayside for lunch or dinner.
Molly H.
This is a fantastic place for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is very personal, down-to-earth and easy going. It's not a fancy spot, though you could walk in wearing a ball gown and still feel right at home. The staff are very personable and always willing to help and adjust any order to what your needs are.
All food choices that I have had are fantastic, no problems. Their burgers are particularly good.
They have patio seating outside, though my favorite place to sit is in the room behind the bar inside the main door, there is a window facing the backside of the restaurant and showing the train tracks outside. It has a very soft, ambient atmosphere to it.
Judy Spurlock
Enjoyed our meal very much. Extremely nice wait staff. Nice atmosphere.
nassim mir
I stopped for a mid-afternoon snack to tie me over. Had the Asian slaw and mashed potatoes. Both were good, the potatoes were nice and hot. The service needs to be a bit better. No matter who comes through the door and what they order, curtisy needs to be number one.
Stephen Le
Atmosphere seems to straddle a typical bar eatery and a dive bar. Food flavor is very good, but as you can see by the portion of fish vs chips it's a tad lacking. Not sure if this is with other dishes but for the price I'd expect one more piece of fish. More than that would be gratuitous for sure.
Duck wings are a fry and toss, but texture and flavor are worthwhile considering you get 4.
Anna Krasnova
My husband and I visited Asheville for the first time and decided to try this bar/restaurant. Food and service was amazing but 2 hours later we decided to came back which was a mistake which I regret, as the hostess was rude and after we let him know we just wanted to have drinks..... he said there is not enough space at the bar and offered us seat outside (it was 51 degrees and we just arrived from Florida), we still asked to seat inside and when we came inside we noticed there were at least 10 free tables with good spacing between all tables. So I think for them its important how much money you spend. Our waitress was amazing but the hostess was nice during our first visit since we went money on drinks/food but second visit the same hostess gave us attitude after we let him know we justed wanted drinks. Just don't let the hostess know what you will be ordering and all will be good.
Mary E. Meyer
We were in the Biltmore area for a few days. We went twice to the Village Wayside Bar & Grille. Both times I had the curry chicken salad, as it was delicious. The three other people with me also enjoyed their meals. The first visit Corie was our waitress. She was very attentive and our drinks and meals came out very quickly. She was one of the best waitresses we have ever had. The second time, I think her name was Lisa. Both were so pleasant and the service was fantastic. Everything tasted fresh and, for what you got, the prices were much better than some of the other places in the area. We would definitely go there again, if we do go back to Asheville. (It is not the place for a romantic, expensive dinner, but if you want great service, very good food at a reasonable price - we highly recommend it. It was exactly what we were looking for, at the time, for lunch.)
Alan Haber
We ended up at Village Wayside after the restaurant across the street was closed. Walking in I was a little sceptical as I was looking forward to a different type of food. The menu has a lot of interesting options, the staff is really friendly and the food is delicious.
I'll be back again, and I will refer friends as well.
Noel Wagner
So first off I want to say I'm not one for BBQ but the beef brisket looked amazing. I asked to sample the Cheerwine BBQ sauce and it was actually pretty good. The brisket was very tender although I wished it had a bit more flavor. Their beer selection was pretty good, a bunch of local craft brews on tap & bottle. I think our table ordered almost one of every beer between the 7 of us. Last, the dessert, definitely the best part. I ordered the mini peaches & cream pie. It was perfect, not too dry, not too sweet. I think adding any whipped cream or ice cream to it just would have made it too overwhelming. A friend in our group ordered the layer cheesecake, he was speechless. I even ordered another mini pie to take home with me. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Paul Lemieux III
Great service my first time there. I got the veggie burger. The flavor was on point but they need to work on the structure. It fell all to pieces after the first bite. Onion rings were fire dipped in their homemade beer batter.
Andrea Houk
First visit and there were so many interesting choices on the menu it took a bit to decide. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. Wait staff is attentive, we didn't have to ask for water to be refilled, she noticed and handled it. But they don't intrude on your meal either. Great food for a good price. I wish I'd had a desert, but was too full. Next time I will get it to go!
Brandi McLay
I would definitely recommend and would come back when in town. They accommodated our large party with no problems, and had a great menu selection that everyone enjoyed.
Anthony Corrao
Great place. Hot and cold dip was not really that big of a spicy kick but was still awesome. Fish and chips are 2 huge pieces with great homemade tartar sauce. Homemade chips are great as well. Decent place to eat at.
Daniel Osowiecki
The staff here was great! My friends and I were treated like family while we ate and had a drink. Lots of jokes from the bartender too he's hilarious!
Josh Kools
Very welcoming and friendly environment. The menu is fairly traditional but the taste is very unique! Definitely try the sweet potatoe tots, and the salmon option in the Alfredo is probably the best I've ever had. SO good!!
Hyland Gresham
Clean dining area, rustic feel with great food and friendly staff. I had the superfood salad with salmon, wife had pasta with beef tips. The food was delicious, we'll definitely be eating there again.
Jim Hamilton
Great food, great service and....really clean bathrooms. Nice mix of tourist and locals. Low key and relaxed atmosphere.
My wife and I had a late dinner. She had the the Super Food Salad, I had the Pork Wings....that's right, pork wings. Both dishes were out of the ordinary and tasty.
Austin Tiller
The best bartenders in town! Josh & Pete are worth visiting even if you don't eat.
The food is incredible. You wouldn't guess that such a small place could pack such a big punch all the time. The specials are always interesting.
The bar has an amazing selection of Whiskey and Bourbon that is always evolving. The owner is a big fan of brown water.
Kelly Dale
This was my first time at this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and the food and service was amazing! I got the beef tips and they were cooked to perfection. Waitress was also great about substituting sides. Great place to eat!
Glenn in Carolina
Waited 30 min for an absolutely wonderful meal of glazed salmon and assorted grilled veggies, all seasoned to perfection. And the wait staff was wonderful. I wasn’t sure when the hostess said to wait anywhere we could find a place, including outside in the cold. Also, note that tables in bar area are first come, first served, a detail I didn’t know. We will be back.
Just Kiwi
Without question the best food we had the entire time we were in Asheville. And so affordable. I had the Cuban Cowboy and it was one of the most tender and flavorful sandwiches I've ever had. We also had a really awesome waiter. You won't regret going to this restaurant.
Ashley Davoli
Excellent service from Kate! She was patient with my indecisiveness on what I wanted to order and offered me her favorite menu items. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was chill! Would recommend and come back when I visit Asheville!
Zach Stock
The food is excellent, and if you're lucky, you'll get to see a train rattle by the window.
Gregory Smith
Quite a neat bar and grill! We loved the food and the location. Wide selection of local micro-brew and national beers and a full service bar for cocktails. Varied menu has something for everyone. Definitely a place to try!
Steve Waszak
Excellent service, great burgers
C Cortina
Stopped here New Years Eve. Our server was fantastic. Food was very delicious. Our party of 11 had great meals. They have a great selection of variety of foods for different diets.
Sergio Meneses
My wife and I ordered takeout. Simple order that just requested no mayo on her sandwich and instead of fries I ordered a Caesar salad. My wife's sandwich came with mayo and I got no salad dressing with my salad so I paid an extra $1.50 for lettuce with croutons.
The manager was nice enough to rectify the situation. Maybe they just had a rough night. The food that was right was good.
Scotty Wallace
Good food. Great prices. Onion ring the size of a donut. BBQ sauce very good. Mac salad and fries are great. For my taste the burger and onion batter could be seasoned more.
Aimee Kuelling
Love, love, love this place -- I've been there at least three times and loved it every time. Plus, that's one love for the location, one love for the staff and one love for the food. Everything is always delicious, the staff is fun and friendly and it's in Biltmore Village which is a great spot for wandering through the little town enjoying shops, food and the fantastic weather here in NC.
Susan Miller
This is the old train depot built in 1892. We sat in the bar. The burger I had was cooked to perfection, and the salad as a side was the perfect addition. My husband had the Chicken Alfredo and loved every bite. We talked Michigan football with one of the staff and just had the best time. This is a place you have to go to when in Asheville.
Marv Parker
Perfectly cooked pasta (a challenge for most restaurants) each time I've been there. Can't seem to get away from the Fettucine Alfredo with blackened chicken. Homey atmosphere, unpretentious but with good service and commendable draft beer selection. Had Highland's Cold Mountain Winter Ale here first, thanks in part to their support of local breweries. Just took my wife and her mom there, we all enjoyed our meals... all three had the pasta. I highly recommend this place for good food, not for the decor. Extra treat: a train went by while we were eating... the tracks are just out back so it's almost like having a train in your dining room. Win-win!
Jacob
Hands down the best experience I’ve had outside of church.
Joe Stryker
What an amazing surprise that this "Bar & Grille" would have such amazing food! I ordered the Greek Platter which featured lamb gyro, Greek salad, pita points, and homemade tzakziki sauce & hummus. One member of our party ordered the onion rings as an appetizer. When it was delivered to the table, we all laughed at how ridiculously large they were! The size of the rings was only exceeded by the flavor. Yum! Great place for foodies!
Dusty Knight
Great local feel to this village spot. We enjoyed a meal outside on our last visit, and the staff was quite friendly and accommodating given the pandemic conditions. Great food, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere await!
Phillip Monk
Great food, strong drinks and an old school bar feel. The old depot layout creates several smaller areas for groups to hang out. Friendly staff and good prices keeps this little pub a hospitality hangout. Try their cool hot chips made on site with a spicy creme fraiche.
Andrea Gerrish
We came to visit the Biltmore and stopped to eat beforehand. Their burgers are amazing and onions rings unbelievably awesome. We will definitely be back. The service matched the food for sure. Shout out to our waitress Lisa!
AJ Nidek
Always a good experience here in a Historic setting.
Matt Raumikaitis
I was recommended by a local, while I was traveling for work. Ended up having several meals here. Every dish I had was great. Service was great as well, they even began to recognize me and knew what my beverage of choice was.
Larry S
Service great and in a nice location. Foods is okay, but what I had was just average bar food. We arrived after the main lunch so we were seated out in glass area by street. Only disappointment was the lack of local draft craft beers.
Carol Kelleher
Nice place - we stopped for lunch and had the grilled cheese and a BLT. The macaroni salad was fantastic. We also had a basket of onion rings. They looked like donuts, but were surprisingly light. Not too doughy at all.
Amanda Allman
My husband and I are here after a movie. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and gave me a great recommendation. I had the fettuccine carbonara and it was very good. The restaurant has a really chill atmosphere.
Marvin McGhee
Great place. Simple atmosphere. Come in be who you are. Best dang burger ever. Person next to me had Salomon dish that smelled wonderful. I was not expecting what I got. Oh yeah if you happen to sit next to the back windows, or at the bar don't be surprised when the train comes by. Whoo,Whoo
rmsdud qkr
Came here two days in a row for the wayside (me) and veggie (wife) burger. These are phenomenal, and the sweet potato tots are very delicious as well. Service is great. Daily drink specials available.
Chad Holland
Our waitress was really nice and the food was tasty. I will definitely done here again.
andrew hamilton
Its a small bar like atmosphere, it was a little warm inside, unusual for mid November. The food was really good and the wait staff was excellent. I ordered the brisket plate which was full of flavor. My wife had their house salad which was excellent for $5. I definatly rececommend. Very relaxing and inviting environment
Drew Fulghum
Decent food good service gets u out of the heat for a minute.
Chris Hangsleben
My favorite bar in Asheville, with some great staff, and always awesome locals hanging out. The food is delicious. They have an amazing burger. Don't be scared by the trains that roll by every now and then, they're noisy, but fun to watch roll by.
Kristopher Gilliam
Delicious burgers with phenomenal onion rings. Service was lightening fast and wasn't too expensive. They have Cheerwine on tap which is a plus.
John Sweetman
If you're in or near Asheville you MUST eat here! When we arrived at the restaurant at 7:30 on Saturday night it was packed so we were expecting a wait. The hostess was apologetic for what she said would be a 15 minute wait but was actually less than 10.
Our server showed up immediately to get our drink order and brought drinks back right away. We both got the Fish and Fries with house-made tartar sauce and cole slaw. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. The fries were fresh cut, crispy, and addictive. The fish was beautifully battered and fried and delicious. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. The prices were incredibly low. An excellent experience! Try Village Wayside Bar & Grille the next time you're in Asheville. You won't be sorry!
ADITL KETO
Sooo good!! The parking situation is a bear, but the Reuben special I just had for lunch, made it worth it. And I will definitely be coming back for the brunch Bloody Mary if I'm in town on a Sunday. My server (Erin) was very attentive, polite, knowledgeable. Very pleased!!
Christopher White
My first time here and sure will not be my last unless I enter the pearly gates of Heaven in the upcoming week. If I do I hope God allows me to bring their black angus sliders with me. Also, the house cut fries are amazing. The service is as great as the food. See you fine folks next week!
DJ Decide
I’ve been here around 30 times. They’re always prompt, friendly and the food is always great. Great prices too. I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem of any kind here. When I don’t know where I want to eat this is always a solid land and I’m never disappointed I came.
Courtney R
Food and beer was great!! However, service was below average. We waited at least 15 minutes to even see a server and then felt like we were an inconvivence to him every time he had to interact with us.
Kita Teel
Great wings and fun atmosphere. Burger was good.
Amy Thiery
Located in a historic train depot, this restaurant gives plenty to look at and think about as you wait to place your order or for your food to arrive. The food was great and the staff was friendly and attentive. The ahi tuna tacos were incredible! Our family fought over them. They come three to a serving but our waitress offered to add one more. We also enjoyed the cheesefries. Pretty typical but the bacon was left in large chunks and it was fabulous. I had the brisket with Cheerwine BBQ sauce! Oh, yum. I upgraded my fries to frites and it was worth it. My teen had salmon with double mashed potatoes and declared it outstanding. My younger boy enjoyed his chicken strips and fries. Both boys loved the Cherry Drop drink. It is Cheerwine layered over Sundrop. I have to admit it was mighty tasty. My husband had the burger and fries. He lamented that he didn't add the bacon... don't make his mistake. Save room for the homemade desserts. We enjoyed the layered cheesecake...a cheesecake with devil's food cake on top and frosted in buttercream. But the highlight was my cocont cream pie. By the time it made the rounds at the table I only had two bites! This is a must do while in Ashville.
Titus Avila
Great service and good eats. All the bartenders were fantastic. Found this gem on the first night of my stay and stopped in for drinks and a late bite at least 5 times. Keep up the good work!
Aurora Dalia
Nice place, love the old tavern aesthetic! Food was great and the service was excellent. Very cheap for the amount of food we got. Definitely more of a bar then a restaurant though so do be prepared for that.
Haleigh Christmus
ATMOSPHERE: I get a very cool vibe from this place it used to be an old train station. It's very cool looking on the inside. They have a nice little outside area too where you can sit by the tracks.
ALCOHOL: good drink specials like 5$ bloody Mary and mimosas...some beers on tap. They do have Biltmore wine here which is a nice touch.
FOOD: I like the food here, pretty dang good, I mostly drink here.
KIDS?: yeah, I'd bring my 9 month old here if there well behaved.
All in all, cool lunch and dinner place that is worth the visit.
kevin zelhart
Very unusual menu, which is what attracted us. Food was good, ample servings, and I was able to get a craft stout. We we'll probably visit again when in area.
Mitchell Jones
Great food with a huge selection! The service was awesome and it was a great place for our first night on vacation with friends in Asheville! Homemade sauces, breads and a great drink selection, can't wait to go back!
Tony Pisano
Always the best food and atmosphere. I wish we could bring back the pig wings.
Dave Gilronan
I had some time to kill while my wife was shopping so I walked into Wayside for a beer and lunch. I love this place! The food was very good. Everyone working there was very pleasant. In fact, everyone in the place seemed to be having a good time. Going to Wayside will become a tradition every time I go back to Asheville.
Jeff “Grudgy Woof” Morris
If I could give a 6 star rating I would. Wonderful food, great staff, and a memory for my wife and I on vacation seeing the Biltmore estate. We learned the next day during our tour that we had eaten in the depot where Vanderbilt's guests arrived to visit. The steak frites was amazing. and great local beer. We will be back.
Gail Hyde
Great pub, set in the historic train depot building in Biltmore Village. Very good food and drink selection. Friendly and competent wait staff. Stays open late enough that one can go there after an event they've attended and enjoy a good meal or snack and drink, without pushing a closing time. Housemade desserts. Train occasionally runs right by the windows!
Marilyn Lampard
A nice place to get lunch while shopping. We sat at the bar and met some really nice people who were staying in Bryson City where we own a pub which they visited the next day.
Marissa Uhl
Village Wayside is great! They have killer cocktails and delicious food!! I love their super food salad and the fetachoke dip. So good! And the owners are wonderful people. Highly recommend!
Melanie Corley
What a Gem! Friday night, no wait, and service was great. They wait on you like a village, everyone pitches in to make sure you are taken care of. The Buffalo Wings, Wayside Burger, and BLT were all Great!
Mandi Kautz
Our dinner was amazing. My husband, two teens and I all enjoyed our dinner. Service was excellent, staff is very kind, atmosphere is great and again, the food was amazing!
John Hogan
Absolutely sublime. We pulled in, the parking area was full. I sent my bride to ask the host at the front if it was cool to park the motorcycle right there in front. He said sure! We were seated immediately, and our waiter was right there.
The wife's curry chicken salad was understated and as close to perfect as I can imagine. I enjoyed Potsy's Piggys, the cabbage rolls with mashed potatoes. I'm sure their burgers are fabulous, but how often are cabbage rolls on the menu? We will definitely be back.
If I lived there, I would live there, ya know what I mean?
Tony P
One of the best local joints in Biltmore Village area. You have got to try the pork and Duck wings.
Edit:. No more pig wings but the duck is flowing. Service is exceptional as always.
Casey Cooper
Great food, got the ahi tuna tacos they were amazingly out of this world especially with the fresh avocado. Also ordered the brisket and got my fries covered in garlic butter highly reccomend that option. Wife ordered the steak, was perfectly seasoned and very tastey. Great food and very very good price for all we got.
Tami Watson
Prices were good, about 10+ for Gyro and fries, food was very good, management was kind, our server was preoccupied and talked as he walked away instead of to us. But servers come and go. The food was good and that’s what matters. Also right across from the Craft show!
BJ GK
Seriously DELICIOUS food. We came through town looked up places to eat and based on reviews decided to check it out. We had pig wings, super salad and cabbage rolls. OMG SOOOOO GOOD. Every dish was delicious. THEN we found the chocolate with peanut butter balls.... ATE 6. This place is THE PLACE.
matt
The service was good and the food was excellent. Every one in our party of five enjoyed it very much and the food delivery was fast. I normally don't give a place a five but I honestly can't find anything to complain about.
Katherine Ehrlichman
The coconut cream pie is the closest thing to heaven I may ever get. Love every single thing about Village Wayside. Drinks are delicious & food is casual, but thoughtful. My go-to restaurant forever and always.
David Stanton
Delicious meals. I had the the brisket, and my wife had the crab cakes.
In the former Biltmore rail depot. Train buffs might want to request a table by the tracks to watch the occasional train go by.
Mark Keufterian
Food and service were excellent. I got the gyro sandwich which was a bit messy but good. The wings were phenomenal along with the dipping sauces. I would definitely come back again if I lived around here.
Julie Call
What a neat little place. Good food and drinks. The owners are so sweet! Love it!
Jess
Thank you so much for donating lunch for us today on Mother/ baby unit at Mission. Delicious food!! We're appreciative of your kindness and generosity. We will definitely be dining with you again when this is all over.
Maria R-B
Good late night food, great atmosphere! Very, very SLOW service.. and my visit was a Monday night... That kinda sucked, but, I was surrounded by my BFF's on my birthday so we made the most of it!!
Billy Conley
My favorite lunch spot is ashville. Food is great. Beer selection is heavy on the ipa's but they also have high life! When is the last time you found that outside of a grocery store?
jackie kinsman
Great service and food. In an old train depot, loved the character. Got right in but then it got busy. Food came quickly and was really good. Craft beer for my husband so he liked that
Stefan Beaulieu
Food and service was outstanding. Our server was Molly and she couldn’t have been nicer or provided better suggestions. Food came out perfect at a reasonable wait time that allowed us to enjoy ourselves.
Amanda Fortner
I love this place.
Amazing cheerwine sauce on the chicken sandwich
Darren Denton, BSN, RN
Great atmosphere in a town where atmosphere is at a premium. The bartenders here are fantastic!! They also have great beer 🍻 on tap in a town that's known world wide for their craft beers!! …
Pamela Hall
Here visiting grandmom from Jersey. Delicious food and great drinks! The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Loved it and whenever we make it back here, we'll be sure to stop back in!
Nick Heil
Our hotel recommended this spot. We found it to have excellent food, great service, interesting menu, I would highly recommend. We had dinner the first night and went back for lunch during our visit to Ashville. YUM!!
Kristin Wills
Food was amazing. Great service. Had a great time.
Zachary H
food was great! the kitchen manager encouraged us to order from the full menu even though it was just before the late night menu hour. loved the atmosphere; everyone seemed to know each other! thanks everyone :)
Gail Bisbey
We all got the Hungarian cabbage rolls and they were delicious! We were in town for the Chahuly exhibit at the Biltmore. Found this place on Google Map app. Great food, great wait person and relaxing atmosphere. Glad we stumbled onto this place!
Lindsey DiMartino
The best vibe in town. Close to downtown but feels so secluded and private at the same time. Food is always so delicious.

Found this place on a whim and it is now our favorite. It is worth a 1.5 hour drive just for lunch and a brew! Do not eat anywhere inside Biltmore, just go straight out of their gate and Village Wayside is on you left. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Good local beers, grilled cheese special had brisket and bacon, buffalo chicken sandwhich was great. Cold but hot dip was amazing as well.
Bo Ellis
The food here is awesome! Me and a friend split an order of wings and they were great! I had the brisket with cheerwine bbq sauce, it was wonderful. Definitely will be back.
Chris Jenkins
Pulled off the highway on the way to Boone to get some food and happened upon Village Wayside. God must have been looking out for us. Outstanding service with duck wings, soup, sandwiches, and a burger that were all nothing short of fantastic. The Raging Cajun burger is a showstopper (although sub white cheddar for the American if you're a cheese snob like me). Ceasar on the side feels healthy (and has a really great earthy dressing), and the drinks are poured generously. Will drive through NC again to eat here.
Cindy Holmes
Great local place to grab a burger and fries! Service was fast and food was excellent!
Erick Wolfe
Great service, great food and apps. Good drinks selection. Prices are good and you get more than you pay for. Nice patio seating. Just fyi this is a dog friendly place (outside).
Kimberly Lewis
Great Brisket meal & wings! Super service & price!
Staci Poole
Best. Burger. Ever!! We are from OKC traveling through and stopped here to eat. Not sure what we were in for just picking a spot blindly. Man! We were all pleasantly surprised. Food was really really good, wish we lived closer because we would be back. Will for sure visit if we come through Ashville again.
Jennifer Woodfin
They have a great laid back environment while still nice. Our server was great and there is a nice selection of craft brews. The fetachoke dip was amazing!
Dana Gillispie
We visited Asheville recently for the first time and stopped by Village Wayside for dinner. We were so impressed with the service and the quality of the food. The inside has such a cool vibe and the owners really make an effort to make their customers feel welcome. We will be back every time we come to Asheville.
Christine Phelps
We had a late lunch, both of us opting for the brisket burnt end burger plate. Wonderful flavor with quick service from the kitchen. Parking is a hassel but lunch relaxing.
K1 Gilpin
Great place for lunch outside the Biltmore's gates. I never saw my children enjoy a meal as much as they did this one. Thanks to our server and the kitchen for providing a sandwich for our picky eater to his exacting specifications!
Justin Stymacks
Great for a late night bite! Bartenders are fun and personable, whiskey selection is next level. Had the tuna tacos, very good.
Jeff Clinton
Awesome burger. Awesome Greek salad. Awesome location. Awesome service. In short, simply awesome.
Charles Gibert
This is my absolute favorite bar in town. The service staff are all wonderful and they and the customers contribute to a jovial atmosphere. The food is good too! Do yourself a favor and try the Cold Hot Dip.
Brandon Long
Great food for a great price. Highly recommend beer battered onion rings, fish, and brisket. We will be back when in the area. Unique history of the building that adds to the touch.
Adam Breakey
Really great food. I only wish the hot wings were hot! They didn't seem to have much spice to them. Will definitely go back, lots of great menu items to choose from.
Nicole Johnson
Cheerwine bbq wings and the fish and chips are fabulous. Onion rings are good too. Only thing I have had that I didnt like was the havarti and pear grilled cheese. The pear was very unripe and rock hard.
Christina Remie
This place is AMAZING! I kid you not, THE BEST steak I have ever had. Service was awesome, great beer choices. Definitely a must!
Joshua Doty
Great atmosphere! Food choices are good even though it's a fairly varied menu everyone really enjoyed what they ordered!
Doug P
Good food and great service. 👍
Randy Allamand
Great menu with lots of options. Wonderful home made food. We all tried something different and it was all delicious!
Ryan Wilson
Good food, very pleasant staff, good prices. It's located in the old Biltmore train Depot I Biltmore Village. Literally all of the Biltmore Estate (workers and materials) came through here. It's a nice, casual place with good comfort food. The staff ate wonderful, and the kitchen manager is a genius. Try the depot burger, which comes with a Cheerwine based bbq sauce. Fantastic
Brian Fraga
As usual, the food was excellent, the service was great, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. This is a great casual place in a historic building of Biltmore Village. Without a doubt my favorite Asheville restaurant / bar.
Brian Pearson
Great experience. Got quiet table in the front. Greek platter was excellent. Special was a beef brisket burger that was also very good. Recommended.
Paul Koloszar
My wife and I popped in here after a long day on the Blue Ridge. She had the Gateway Fish and Fries, and I had “Potsy’s Piggy’s”. Both were delicious. Being essentially a stuffed cabbage, “Potsy’s Piggy’s” took me back to my youth. It also reminded me of a Polish wedding reception. If only there have been buttered noodles…
But, they did have pie. We thought it might be a difficult decision between peach cobbler and coconut cream pie, but they were out of peach cobbler.
I’ll take this moment to mention my beverage. I got a Green Man Porter, which went really well with the stuffed cabbage. However, one really should be done drinking that before one has coconut cream pie.
holly booth
Favorite place in town, feels like home and the bartenders are amazing! Prices are incredible, and I love the location. Right next to biltmore, easy to access, close parking, right next to the train tracks!
Dan Hughes
We just stopped in for a drink while we were shopping in the area. But the funky, eclectic atmosphere made us want to visit again. We did not eat so I can't comment on the food. But it looked like there were plenty of selections.
Tonie Jones
We had a little wait time for a table, but it was very busy. Food, drinks and service was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
Maria Moore
The absolute best bar in Asheville! The food is fabulous, thanks to Polly and the drinks are perfect, thanks to Pete, Josh, Matt and Joseph. A great spot for a date or to celebrate any event!

The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced.
We loved the atmosphere and will plan on going back again and again!
David Brown
Great food at a fair price. Laid back. If you're lucky you might get to eat one of their limited-supply Burnt Brisket End burgers. Yum!
Nathan Lindler
Popped in here to get a drink. The bloody Mary was great and didn't cost an arm and a leg. We didn't order food but it looked good at the other tables that did order.
Eric Huertas
Needed a late night meal, ordered The Club sandwich with Sweet Potato Tots and The Hummus Plate. They were both full of flavor - fresh and bright.

I make trips to AVL just for the ahi tuna tacos. The appetizer comes with three fried wonton tacos but I always order four. Plus extra napkins—you’ll need them!
Jon Stickley
Best bar food in Asheville. Long running locally owned joint! We live the wings and curried chicken salad salad!
joseph teague
My wife and I were in Ashville from Atlanta just to get out of the house during the virus situation. We saw Jayside and ordered lunch. It was FABULOUS!!
There are very few places that we would drive 3 hours, but we would again!
They were very personable and nice. Gotta try it!!
Kevin Richardson
They have a very diverse menu without it being 10+ pages. Food was very good and service was prompt. Quirky atmosphere. They also have outdoor seating available.

I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this place is. Their burgers are my favorite. The bar area is beautiful. It isn’t great for a bit crowd, but definitely worth the visit!
Robert Maddrey, Jr.
Always our first dinner stop when visiting Asheville. Conveniently and picturesquely located in the Biltmore Village, the Village Wayside strikes that perfect balance between casual and up-scale. The menu is eclectic but staples driven with strong regional influence (Cheerwine everything). Whether its the duck wings, the pork wings, the steak and pasta or just a burger or BLT I've never had a meal I did not love.
David Cy
Really good food! Very curious because the font on the outside looks like a water park font, but I have the cabbage wrap and it was very filling and delicious.
Dewayne Hopper
Love coming here when in the area. Great soups one at a time. Supper salad chicken blackened. Great always dependable service and food. Thank you
Ed Sager
Great food all freshly made and locally grown. Even the beef comes from a local farm and is freshly ground for some of the best hamburgers we've had. Highly recommended.
The Hammer Bros
Great food and drinks that are reasonably priced. They are open later than most places in the area so it is good for a late night stop. The wings are very good and I highly recommend them.
Leslie Spencer
Great Doc Decarlo sandwiche and wonderful onion rings. Loved the Moscow mules
Paul Ostrowski
Great fish and chips. Could use a larger draft beer selection. Onion rings were also very good.
Andrew Lester
Great food and friendly staff!
Carl Anglin
We always enjoy time spent eating here. The food is good, the staff is friendly and services is good. The only bad thing is finding a parking place, but it's worth the trouble for the food.
DeletedAccount d43mnd
The T.O.P. sandwich (imagine a turkey club but re-invented) is by far one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. French fries were also exceptional. Will be back.
Holly Brown
We sat at the bar and had beers and the fetachoke dip which was Wonderful! Cute and rustic old bar.

Located in Biltmore Village, Village Wayside Bar & Grille is a must visit! Amazing menu selection, amazing food.. AND even more.. AMAZING SERVICE! Step back in time and fill ya tummy! Bruce and I LOVE this restaurant! It is filled with spectacular architectural detail.. most of which you can rock and photograph up close! While there, look out the front windows and you will see what The Vanderbilts saw upon their arrival by train into Asheville! All Souls Crescent Church it straight across from the, once train depot. Very affordable on the traveling.. vacation wallet! A must visit when visiting Asheville North Carolina!
