Reviews of Chestnut

The food was so good that I forgot to take pictures!! We started with truffle fries and drinks then continued to entrees. The truffle fries were crispy and full of flavor. I had the duck it was tender and delicious. I highly recommend it. The drinks were a bit strong if you aren't someone who drinks frequently but very well done. Our server was extremely sweet and attentive and we never waited for anything even though they were extremely busy. We enjoyed every second of our dinner here.

We had a delightful dinner there. We sat at the table that is surrounded by glass in the front, so you can see the sidewalk and people walking by, which we enjoyed.
The food is phenomenal. I had the "Winter Citrus Salad" which was probably the best kale salad I've ever had. I also had the winter squash ravioli. Being vegetarian, I was able to find a number of tasty options. We did have an issue with one of our meals, which they handled brilliantly. It wasn't a big deal and we were beyond satisfied with their resolution. Not every meal can be flawless, and we understand that. So when a restaurant handles an issue properly, it makes it so much nicer.
I also recommend the Ginger beer, which was packed with flavor.
Overall, it's a pleasantly quiet environment, quick service and fantastic food. If you're in the Asheville area, I highly recommend that you give Chestnut a try.

One of the best dinners I’ve had by far. Scallops were tender & delicious. Highly recommend the Surf & Surf! Ambiance was comfortable and beautiful. Dessert is the game changer, though! Maple sundae was out of this world. And couldn’t go wrong with an espresso martini.

The food and service here are both amazing!!! Their menu is unique with small, medium, and large plates which is awesome for sharing and exploring the menu. The service is fantastic as well! My waitress Megan was really helpful in picking out some items on the menu. And don't you dare skip dessert here!!! The menu changes seasonally so you can never get tired of coming here. I HIGHLY recommend this place when you're in town.

Our experience at Chestnut was outstanding. The server really knew her menu items and made great suggestions. We had the trumpet mushrooms, petite filet, and pork ribs and they were all great. The steak could use more seasoning i n my humble opinion. Overall, a great experience!

Quick Summary
Solid dinner spot for date nights or big groups. Really enjoyed the lobster bisque and tomahawk pork chop. Try to make reservations
Food- 5 stars
Food was fantastic. The lobster bisque was rich and balanced. The pork chop was fatty and full of flavor. Enjoyed all their food
Service- 5 stars
Our server, Rachel was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly
Bottom Line
Fantastic dinner spot at the heart of downtown Asheville. Will be coming back!
we love ice cream
We do love Chestnut, but this last visit wasn’t as good as the first, when we chose to celebrate our anniversary at their restaurant and went all out, it was a great night! Everything was good but the crab linguine, it really isn’t something that is up to Chestnut standards in my opinion, nor is it something worth $22 (heck, no). It looked so so, it tasted so so, like pasta from some regular, nothing special, chain restaurant, and after our fabulous first visit that is definitely not what we expected. I also found shell pieces on my pasta, from the eggs used to make it or whatever. We didn’t say anything about it but now I regret it and think we really should have. The drinks were chestnut quality, as well as the shrimps and grits and dessert. Crab linguini was a mistake and a hard pass.

Food was amazing and full of flavor. They had different size portions depending on how hungry you are and how much you want to spend. We shared the Carmel apple dessert and it was SO good and a great way to finish the dinner. Highly recommend.

One of the best restaurants in Asheville!! Really great seasonal menu in a historic building. The service is amazing and the food is top notch. The lobster bisque was the best I've ever had. The Beef Wellington was a unique take on it with two medallions wrapped in the pastry, and it was delicious. I cannot recommend Chestnut highly enough.

Quick Review:
Higher end contemporary American done right and with passion! Simply great food and great service, well worth the price and multiple visits!
LONGER REVIEW BELOW
Group Size(s):
4+ people every visit.
How many times we've been:
4 times
What we've ordered:
The menu changes monthly but there are some "house staples" such as the Lobster Bisque and the Truffle Fries that we've had. We try to each get a different dish and share a little of each. The variety, creativity, and quality between the dishes and between our different visits has been fantastic. I'll add photos to this review and will label the dishes as best as my memory can serve.
What we spent:
~$50+/person before drinks and tips. That usually covers 1 starter/salad, 1 medium plate (usually shared with the table), and 1 entree. Of course some dishes are much more expensive or cheaper than others on the same menu.
What we liked:
- Food: The quality, creativity, and portion sizes are well worth the price of admission. We've had everything from vegetarian vindaloo to the best pork schnitzel you'll ever taste. It's been said by other reviewers but the Lobster Bisque will change your life haha definitely recommend it!
- Gluten-sensitive options: We've been twice with very gluten-senstive friends and each time the kitchen and wait staff provided options and substitutions that were top tier. The gluten-free bread and butter specifically was amazing. The staff also helped alleviate any concerns about cross contamination and neither friend experienced the slightest issue after eating at Chestnut.
- Service: The waitstaff has always been attentive and helpful, even despite some very busy nights that we've visited. What seals the deal as Chestnut being great in our eyes is that when we asked what the chef recommends, the Chef de Cuisine Matt came out to us once and gave his passionate and informative answers! Even the waitstaff has had good insight into each dish and a clear passion/joy working with the back of house staff.
What we didn't like:
- Food: We personally have no concerns or complaints with the food.
- Service/Location: While not fair to Chestnut, they are in a popular spot and have a popular reputation and on two nights we went there has been a large and loud group in the restaurant. While Chestnut is far from the loudest restaurant we've been, it has always been busy and if busy/loud places are a no-go for you, it's something to consider.
Comparisons to similar places in the area:
Chestnut takes the cake when it comes to "fine dining" for us in Asheville and even compared to other experiences we've had elsewhere. We haven't been to several other higher end places in Asheville and honestly, we haven't felt the need or desire to because when the question comes "what should we do for a nice occasion?" It's been Chestnut and I don't see that changing.
While the prices and popularity can definitely be intimidating, I think if you like trying new dishes and come hungry, Chestnut will meet and exceed any price-to-performance expectations.
Our rating system:
5 stars = Great to amazing food and experience. Shout from the roofs to tell people about. Return often and eagerly or find excuses to book a table for a more expensive place.
4 stars = Good to great food and experience. Write home about. Eager to return.
3 stars = Ok to good food and experience. Will offer suggestion if asked but likely would rather go elsewhere.
2 stars = Underwhelming to ok food and experience. Not worth a return and might tell people to skip.
1 star = Bad to underwhelming food and experience. Regret going and tell people to avoid.

We were recommended to try Chestnut from a friend and it did not disappoint! We had lobster mac-n-cheese and lobster bisque and local beers on draft. The food was amazing and will definitely keep this on our list of best spots in Asheville!
B
Started off strong with a good first impression booking a table over the phone. Phillip (?) was great, but it was all down hill form there. We sat down and ordered literally right away, but didn’t get our food until about an hour later and it was cold. While we were waiting they brought some small shrimp crostini thing which was a nice touch, but the long long wait with the waiter not even checking in once was irritating. They were obviously busy so we were willing to wait, but when the food finally came out it was cold and had clearly been sitting in the back for a while so then we were just sad. The flavors of the dishes were ultimately not that impressive. We heard others around us remark about how incredible their meals were, but we felt ours was just average.
Kim R
The food here was fabulous! I loved my shrimp and grits, just the right amount of spiciness. And the dessert.. Excellent!
Jo Dee
Everything was excellent. There's no use discussing the particulars about the menu, as it changes every month. But we ordered quite a bit of dishes and it was all perfection. Even the vodka gimlet! I love it when there are light slivers of crushed ice at the top.
Scott (Scott EO)
This menu was unique and the ambiance was cozy. The wait staff was knowledgeable as well, which made it easier to understand the menu and make an informed decision - it speaks to the care each member of the staff takes to support the chefs ideals. This was one of the most creative meals we've had and one of the few places we've been to where we wanted to try everything on the menu. Kudos to the staff! We will be coming back.
Lexi Aagesen
The food was fantastic! The pickled fried green tomatoes are divine, and Breanna took such great care of us. We ordered multiple small and medium plates and Phil graciously walked us through a couple of wines that would pair well with our dishes. We never felt rushed and had the opportunity to enjoy each and every bite. Thank you for a fantastic experience!
Kimmy E
Wow. So glad we were able to dine here! Service was unbeatable and our server was on top of it. We definitely had to try a little of everything so we had their special wrapped peaches and oh my they were to die for! We also had their baby back ribs, tender and delicious flavors. I had their sesame crusted salmon and my boyfriend had their risotto. So freaking delicious I seriously cannot wait to come visit again! Ohh I also had a couple of their special sangrias and my boyfriend had a special gin drink. I usually get stuffy after drinking wine, but their sangria did not affect me and our server was so kind to figure out the brand for me! Thank you so much for a great experience and cannot wait to come visit again! Our servers name was Breanna B, thank you!!
Lauren Adler
From top to bottom, a wonderful experience. Not only did they acknowledge our marriage/honeymoon, but also made us feel special and celebrated. The shrimp and grits and lobster bisque are not to be missed! Thank you Chestnut and a special thank you to our server Woody!
Brandon Amico
Everything at Chestnut is excellent: the food, the cocktails, the service, even the lighting is perfect. Even after working in a BBQ restaurant, these were maybe the best ribs I’ve ever had: forget fall-off-the-bone—they were so tender the bone seemed like an afterthought.

I made a last minute reservation for my husband and I to enjoy dinner while in town for a wedding. We had a reservation at 9:15. We came early and enjoyed a drink at the bar with our bartender Night. She was very knowledgeable in her drinks and food. The hostess came and found us to sit since our table was ready. Our server Ely was amazing. We asked her a few questions about the menu. She told us that the menu changes monthly. We started with the smoked trout ravioli, which is typically something that my husband and I would not get. I convinced my husband, and boy oh boy did it not disappoint. Our entrees were the 4oz steak and the pork shank. The pork shank was nice and tender, fall off the bone with the cheese made it so delicious. I’ve had pork shank before and Chestnut y’all put all the other pork shanks to shame. We finished off with the dessert, the butter cake, which was tasty. All of the drinks, service, food were impeccable. Y’all have a great staff, and cooks. Hats off to all of you. We will be back next time we come into town.

One of the top 10 most memorable meals! Fantastic service from Megan and the chef Brian Crow is outstanding! We had: Scratch Made Lobster Bisque, Gulf Oyster Salad (omg), Juniper Seared Duck Breast and Pecan Crusted Trout. A simply perfect meal paired with the suggested wines! Divine!
Jessica Pizzo
I was visiting Asheville & had won a gift card at a conference I was attending(North Carolina Ultrasound Society). I am so glad I won it because it forced me to find this place and go there. My husband had the best ribs of his life! Korean BBQ style. Literally with only 2 fingers separated the bone from the meat. My shrimp & grits were to die for!! Every bite from both of our plates was pure heaven! We had a WONDERFUL server named Megan M. and she was such a delight! Kind, compassionate, and very attentive. We ordered one of the ginger beers and it was the best ginger beer we ever had! It was mixed with other things. She told us it’s a local place that makes it and told us about their brewery! We went straight there afterwards and picked up several 6 packs with all kinds of flavors. It’s called Ginger’s Revenge FYI. Also, the manager on duty (a younger guy) was extremely attentive to every patron and every corner of the restaurant. He even moved the blinds like every 30 mins according to the sunlight level. He even busses my table & boxed my food!!Whoever this manager is, he absolutely goes above and beyond! (3/13/23) Anyways, I am so thankful I got to experience this restaurant because I will absolutely be going back & bringing others with me! Thank you for a wonderful experience, and I will be sure to check out the sister restaurant The Corner Kitchen as well! Appreciate the food & service!

What an exceptional dining experience we had! The atmosphere was relaxing, our server was both personable and knowledgeable and our food was amazingly tasteful! Our cocktails were superbly crafted and tasted awesome. We cannot wait to return on our next visit to Ashville!

Couldn’t have been a better meal. Our server Samantha M. Helped us make the most out of our experience by guiding us through the menu and giving us fantastic recommendations.
I had an incredible mahi mahi plate and my wife had scallops and every aspect of both our meals was perfect! I couldn’t have asked for a better dinner on my wedding anniversary trip!

Beautiful birthday experience. Plenty of gluten free options and delicious cocktails. Get the grilled peaches. They do not disappoint.

Atmosphere very pleasant along with hometown feel. Food delicious and unique. Dessert and cocktail menu with a vast selection. Something for everyone. Strongly suggest reservations.

We loved everything about Chestnut — from the greeting to the location and atmosphere to the impeccable service to the menu and the food we ordered. Even the desserts made a lasting impression.
During our short visit to downtown Asheville, after reading a lot of reviews, we chose Chestnut for it’s walkable location from our hotel. Did we chose the right place or what?!
Our server, Arah, was absolutely top-notch. She answered every question and described every menu item to a T. Her knowledge and attentive service alone earned this visit five stars. The rest was a bonus, and what a bonus it was.
Drinks: a craft beer on tap for me and a fancy cocktail I can’t recall the name of — but it was cute and apparently delicious.
Dinner: A food-sharing night, we settled on three medium plates — plenty to satisfy us and leave room for dessert. We had the lobster Mac n cheese (my favorite of the three), fried green pickled tomatoes (the other favorite), and bacon-wrapped scallops. All three were not only delicious, but nicely presented.
Dessert: we knew from the onset we’d be getting dessert since we were celebrating a special occasion. Well, the descriptions were so enticing, we ended up ordering two. No regrets with that decision! The Maple Sundae was a smash hit — hands-down our favorite. The Gingerbread Trifle came in second but was a delight in its own right. Thankfully they were also both photo worthy because the only evidence left that we even had dessert were the photos I took before digging in. In other words, they vanished.
With so many dining options in Asheville, Chestnut is one worthy of your consideration. We’ll almost certainly be back for more— especially since their menu changes regularly.
We loved Chestnut, and we think you will too.
Until next time…

Had a great experience celebrating my birthday here. Food is good and service was great. It was very busy so make reservations ahead of time if you can.

Simply fantastic!
We dined at Chestnut to celebrate my mom’s 50th birthday. We made the reservation couple of weeks in advance to ensure we’d get a table. The drinks, food and the service were all amazing!
Forgot the exact names for the entrees and wasn’t able to look it up since they change their menu monthly but everything was so so good! We all finished every single bite of our food. Will definitely go back to try their new menu.
They brought out banana pudding with a candle for my mom. Omg, let me just say it was out of this world. We all walked out so happy!
Just an FYI, we were seated towards the back and it was so hot there. I was sweating even before I had few sips of my drink.

Delicious and pricey! If going the 2 dishes recommended are pictured in this post - catch of the day was tile fish and it was superb! It's a mild, meaty fish seared perfectly served with a subtle lemon butter sauce that complimented it beautifully. Second dish was seared duck breast. It was soooooo good! Server was very helpful and professional. Food service was a little on the slow side. Overall, great experience!
Randy
WOW. Ate here for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Excellent wait staff and nice atmosphere. The maple dessert at the end is a MUST! We will definitely revist.
Steven Adelson
Such a tremendous meal. I went with my wife, my son and his girlfriend. We shared three appetizers -- an amazing lobster bisque, the terrific hand cut fries and the tasty avocado quinoa salad. We then savored three plates -- the crab linguini, the salmon and the lamb kafta. We also enjoyed two great drinks -- the galaxy girl and the magneto avenue. Food was spectacular; service was superb and the ambiance was lovely. I would definitely recommend dining here to others.
Christina Wall
Food is food, and Asheville is full of great eateries. However, the experience, is what you will remember more. Breanna and Ivy were both thoughtful, attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. They made the dinner memorable. Get the lobster bisque and thank me later. Charcuterie board and the shrimp and scallop ceviche were very good. My husband had the lamb kebab, he says it's his favorite meal in Asheville so far. Our drinks were pretty amazing, too.
Annie Drennen
Amazing experience from start to finish! Drinks and appetizers were fantastic, the service was phenomenal, entrees and dessert were some of the best food I have ever eaten!!
Karen Jones
From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly although we didn't have reservations. We sat at the bar as the tables were full and had amazing service. The signature lobster bisque soup is to die for, the smoothest most tasteful bisque ever. I had salad with pear and blue cheese, added blackened shrimp as protein. The kobe burger with smoked gouda and pickled green tomatoe was cooked perfectly. The toppings were absolutely delicious. Will be back.
Amy Windham
We had an absolutely amazing experience at this restaurant this past weekend. The service, the cozy and cute atmosphere, THE FOOD. Five stars all around.
In retrospect, I really should have ordered a cocktail, but sadly, I did not...so our meal started with the heirloom tomato caprese. Mere coincidence, but I just returned to the US from a trip to Spain, where I was sure that I had eaten the best tomatoes that I'd be eating this summer. Very glad to say, I was wrong - Chestnut in Asheville had the best tomatoes I'll have eaten this summer. The mozzarella was so fresh and delicious as well. A perfect start to the dinner.
Although the entire meal was flawless, the next course was my personal favorite - the grilled peaches. There are no words. It was just one of the most delicious combinations of flavors that I've ever eaten. Nobody should leave Chestnut without trying these.
For entrees, I had the shrimp and grits and my fiance had the sesame-crusted salmon. Both were ridiculously good - satisfying, perfectly cooked and seasoned - just so, so delicious.
Okay - dessert. Much to my surprise, Chestnut has a maple blondie sundae with a gluten-free blondie...? I was not about to ask questions - I just ordered it. I was unprepared for the amazingness of this dessert. I never wanted it to end. The maple ice cream, the nutty sauce, the BLONDIE. My fiance is still talking about this dessert, days later. It was the stuff that dreams are made of.
Chestnut, you are a gem. We will be back.
Linda Winkler
Enjoyable dinner with excellent service, a very good selection of wine by the glass in a modern and refined atmosphere.
I especially liked the calamari salad with its perfectly proportioned ingredients, crispy but not greasy kale, and the right mix of currants, marcona almonds, grana padana and a touch of aioli on nicely dressed greens. Chef sent out an amuse bouche of salmon salad and cucumber, the empanadas were a tasty medium plate, and dessert was a huge chocolate masterpiece.
Michelle Little
The place has a great ambiance! The food we had was cooked perfectly and delicious. Only small complaints... the portions are very small but we expected that. Also, I ordered a cocktail (two birds) and didn't like it (personal taste). Didn't complain but the waitress noticed I wasn't drinking it. She asked me if I'd like something else instead and I said sure! I got the 2nd drink and also wasn't a fan (but I pretended to like it because I felt bad and didn't want to send another drink back). Well... when I got the bill I was charged for the drink I did not drink. When she offered another drink, I assumed it was as a replacement which is common courtesy of restaurants especially higher end. The waitress was friendly and had good service. I'm just disappointed in the charges, that was the only thing. The lobster Mac and cheese was absolutely delicious though!!
UPDATE!!!: This review started out with 4 stars but is now up to 5 with excellent customer service! After writing the above review, the restaurant reached out to me and comped me both my cocktails and apologized saying it is their policy and it must have been overlooked by accident. Very pleased with how quickly they contacted me to make it right! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! ❤️

Dined at Chesnut for the first time last night, Valentine's Day, 2022. Got a late, last minute reservation and had no idea what to expect. We shared the raw oysters and the tomahawk pork chop - both were excellent. As someone who doesn't eat pork very often, this meal made me totally reevaluate what I think of when I think of a pork chop. Char grilled, rubbed with apple-sage, and topped with a cherry/raisin/cranberry reduction. To say this was far and away the best pork chop we've ever had is no exaggeration. We loved Chesnut and will definitely be back very soon! Thanks for the great service, Rachel!
Cienna Lindsay
Great atmosphere, good food too. A bit pricey but they have a wide range of options (medium entrees vs regular entrees). Lots of options are seasonal as well so the menu is always changing. Very good experience, will be recommending to friends and coming back!
Karissa Cardone
Came from Greensboro to Asheville for our honeymoon and saw this highly rated restaurant so decided to stop in! Jessica was so informative and attentive. The charcuterie board is stupid good!!! Seasonal Menu looks basic until you read the ingredients oh my gosh every ingredient sounds amazing. Cocktails are yummy too
Andrew Fay
Menu has some fun choices. Our items were all very exceptional. The service was prompt & pleasant. Wine by the glass was an impressive menu. Overall a very nice experience - will definitely return. Our reservation was very early, so the atmosphere wasn't bustling with activity yet, which may have taken away from it overall, but that was a circumstance not controlled by the restaurant. Would love to go back on a Saturday night at 8pm and have drinks at the bar and have dinner! It is a great space.
Rachel Wilson
We really had the best experience here at Chestnut and I want to give a five star review, unfortunately it was so warm inside the restaurant that is was almost too uncomfortable to enjoy the amazing food. We did let our server know but it didn't get any better for the two hours we were there.
But the food....What I love about Chestnut is the details (minus the lack of AC in 90 degree weather). The local flowers on the table, even the dishes are on locally made pottery. Everything on the menu is truly sourced with intention and as locally as possible. Presentation is refined but simple. The textures. The Flavors. The experience. Just outstanding. Highly recommend for a date night or anniversary dinner. Get whatever is seasonal on the menu (highly recommend the charcuterie board), you will not be disappointed.
Adam Billingsley
The hand crafted cocktails curated with the most exquisite detail! Your tastebuds will sing at the sight of these cocktails and your stomach will be overjoyed at the food. Everything we love about craft food with mindful pairings! Absolutely wonderful.
Jax Hammond
My favorite restaurant in Asheville! Every dish is so delicious especially the fried green tomatoes! We recently went for my son's 19th Birthday and they gave him star treatment. Take it from this local, Chestnut is amazing! Plus you can order their full menu from kickbackavl.com for home or hotel delivery!
elizabethany ploger
Stumbled upon this place after we couldn't get reservations elsewhere, and it ended up being our favorite meal of the entire trip. Everything was so great... They were happy to have us, and we could feel it.
Andrew Martinez
My wife and I made the mistake of celebrating our 10th anniversary elsewhere. However, during out trip, we stumbled upon this gem. I wish we would have just came here for our anniversary dinner. Everything was fantastic! Samantha, our server was so wonderful. We started with the charcuterie board. Oh man, it was incredible! The steak was mouth watering! My wife got the shrimp and grits, of which she said was to die for. The cocktails were top-notch. I can't say enough about Chestnut. Just go when you're in Asheville!! The manager is super cool too!
Mark Wall
I'm stingy about the thought of 5 stars any longer, what is 5? What's 4?
For me and my wife, Chestnut gets 5. Last night we dined here for our first, of many visits. Since moving to WNC 6 months ago we have been making our rounds. I am reporting this as my favorite spot. 38 of the top rated restaurants visited, this takes my ribbon. The lamb kabob left me speechless, wife thought I was in a coma.
And, the lobster bisque and charcuterie board was a smash hit with us both.
Ask for Breanna, she's dynamite. And Ivy was a sweet surprise serving us as well.
Great atmosphere, great hospitality, excellent food.
Susan Crawford
In a word, EXCELLENT!!! Food was amazing!! Service impeccable! Waitress was able to describe the food perfectly. Would definitely go back!
Tyler Cook
Food was delicious. We ordered a charcuterie board starter and 3 medium plates for me and my wife. Servers were very informative and we weren’t rushed in and out. When I’m back in Asheville this will be a must stop.
Leighton Taylor
The food here was absolutely incredible. Rachael our sever was attentive and had great suggestions for dinner. Really loves the atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again.
Jon Eberle
This place is amazing. Brad was incredibly helpful with getting us a table early enough for us to get our kiddo to bed. And our server was perfect…just the right amount of everything. In addition to the great service and clever layout/ambiance, we LOVED the food. We are kinda picky and self-proclaimed foodies, and this place got all the highest marks.
Sydney Barnard
Some of the best fries I’ve ever had. Loved the sesame salmon as well
Kailee Toth
Delicious & cozy dinner spot! The lobster bisque is heavenly & the schnitzel was wonderful too! Must try when you’re in Asheville (definitely make reservations).
Jane Lippert
Amazing atmosphere, friendly proactive service from greeters to management. The food is top notch. Had dinner 2 times in our 4 night stay and everything was perfection. Highly recommend. Would love them to bring this to Murfreesboro or somewhere close in Tennessee. I really can't say enough about our experience!
simon hodson
Food and service were both brilliant. As a starter go for the Tuna tataki or the scallops. I would highly recommend the shrimp and grits, the gooey cake thing was the best dessert. We had the fondant but I expected it to melt from the inside, it was more like a brownie.
Charlotte Grant
Always great food and experience. Loved the lobster Mac and cheese and bacon wrapped scallops. Our server suggested excellent wines to go with and didn't mind that we wanted to share multiple dishes to taste even more. Love to commitment to sourcing local, right down to the east for pottery dishes!
David Deckert
OMGosh…. this is one of the best restaurants that we’ve eaten at in some time. It seemed a little off the beaten path but was well worth the effort to locate and we were lucky that they had availability. I believe reservations are recommended. A new menu monthly, we enjoyed the Lobster Bisque, Summer Watermelon Salad, Shrimp Ceviche, and Shrimp & Grits. The food was excellent and the service very attentive. We will certainly return.
Thomas Quigg
I wanted to love this place so much. The style of menu, ambience, and server (woody) was awesome. However the food let us down.
The beet salad with fried goat cheese was fantastic. The hand cut fries were good but not sure I would pay $10 for them. The lobster Mac and cheese was good and the portion was great with the whole lobster tail, but the over all flavor was missing.
For the main courses we tried the mushroom Wellington and the New York. The Wellington was really good with the quality of mushrooms and had great flavor but the texture, presentation, and accompaniments were lacking. The sauce was just bad, the crisp on the phyllo was boring and moist, and the greens on top were wilting.
The NY came out sliced and the was no sear. It Needed more flavor and quite a bit of fat for a NY. The accompaniments were very good.
Also, we tried two of the cocktails and really liked them but overall not a place I would make an effort to go too next time we are here.
Dayan Siri
This was one of the recommendations on YouTube for Ashville. Loved the food and drink. Sat in the bar area. Great staff❤️

One of Asheville's gems. Popular with locals as well as tourists within a short walk of the center of downtown. This is a mid sized restaurant by downtown standards and has a nice layout of tables without feeling cramped.
Their presentation and creations have a unique flair. The calamari salad was simple but also special. Typically, my wife and I are not big fans of Kale, but their preparation and pairing with the calamari made a great combination. Something we would definitely get (and share) again.
They also have some nice cocktails and awesome deserts (also big enough to share).
Due to it's popularity, be prepared to make reservations in advance or simply book a table at opening (5pm) and you might be lucky to get a window table which is fun for people watchers.

This place was absolutely incredible. I have never felt compelled to write a review. You either meet the standard or you don’t. This place was exceptional to say the least. Not only was the staff incredibly friendly to me (Samantha our waitress) but they were so sweet to my wife and my dog Quincy. They brought him water, treats, and made him his own braised beef. Who does that?! They comped food and drinks that they absolutely didn’t need to because of the timeframe of order to table, which wasn’t a big deal Because we weren’t in a hurry and staying across the street. Most importantly they were genuine in their interaction and beyond accommodating.. oh and the food, drinks, and dessert were out of this world. WHEN we come back, this will be our first spot.

I'm a local and Chestnut is one of my favorites. My most recent visit was for dinner and I ordered the trout with roasted pecan bits and other goodies. It was not good... it was incredibly good. I always expect and get a good meal at Chestnut, but too me this one was especially delicious.

Loved my food (Market catch - Salmon and the Parmesan Truffle Fries) , loved the ambiance, loved my drink! LOVED my server, Rachael. She's special and makes you feel like the only customer in the world. :)

Why did i wait so long to try Chestnut? Restaurant week was the perfect excuse. We had a wonderful meal here with friends. From arrival until we left, the staff was friendly, helpful and genuine. The food was delightful. Definitely a step up in quality and well-worth a visit.
Laura Olszewski
We were greeted warmly, did not feel rushedand our server was professional. The shrimp and grits did NC seafood proud. The lobster bisque was delicious. Saving the best for last, the pickled fried green tomatoes moved to #1 in my book...

I had reservations for my birthday and when we arrived there was a mix up with our table. The hostess recognized and apologized and made it right. She was able to get us seated at our table and was very helpful. The general manager Brad greeted us right away and took our drinks while our waitress came over and went over the menu with us and answered questions. Brianna was our waitress and made excellent recommendations and exceptional service. They brought out truffle fries for us and the entire evening was great with delicious food and staff that made us feel like they were there just to make our experience great. It was probably one of the best customer service experiences I have had. I cant say enough positive things. Thank you for making my birthday feel special! The food was excellent but the staff made it memorable.
Steve Wise
They are trying too hard to be unique. They have added ingredients to standard dishes which certainly do not add to the experience. For example, cotton candy or fruity pebbles to the top of desserts.
The restaurant was clean and not too load however the menu is limited. .
AmirReza Oghbaee
The vibe, monthly rotating menu, and food designs are amazing. The cocktails we had were noth amazing too but the entree food quality could be slightly improved. For example the fries were too salty and the burger's tomato jam were too sweet and not a good combination with kobe beef.
Dennis Buchanan
This restaurant is the best!! I had the best food and service. I caught the last day of the German cuisine. Schnitzel breaded with crushed pretzels, braised red cabbage and spaetzel. It was delicious and I have had this in Germany!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for fine dining!!
Ivana (Ivana)
Whenever we visit somewhere one of our favourite things is to search out the best food and drinks. This is no mild feat and I will spenda completely unreasonable amount of time researching and deciding where our meals should be spent. All that being said we ended up here somewhat on a whim (gasp) and were so glad that we did! It was one of the best meals we had. The atmosphere was very cosy, the server knowledgeable and attentive and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The cheese board starter was excellent and they easily accommodated a nut allergy for us. Would definitely go back.

We have now chosen Chestnut 3 years in a row for our anniversary dinners. As always, the food was incredible. Much like their sister restaurant Kitchen Culture, they are inclusive and welcoming, with a warm, cozy feel to the dining area. Chestnut is the romantic option though, and the seasonally changing menu is a huge selling point for us. We enjoy much of what Asheville has to offer in the way of fine dining, but Chestnut always comes up as our fav.
Kerry C
My sister and I went for brunch on a Saturday. Despite not having reservations, we were seated almost immediately. The food was incredible - so much more complex and flavorful than it even looks. Our waiter was very attentive despite the crowdedness of the restaurant. A live band started playing just as we were leaving to create a really fun atmosphere.
Joseph Klakulak
We walked by the restaurant early in the day while walking around and really liked the menu. That night we had reservations across the street. After waiting awhile to be seated my wife was not feeling it. Even though we did have a reservation we still walked across the street to try. We got lucky and were seated. Like most of the reviews, the entire meal was amazing. Heck, for 2 of us we ordered 3 deserts (one fir the road) and I never eat desert. There are many places in Asheville we still want to try but 1000% will be back!
Michelle Turner
Absolutely wonderful brunch!! I had the filet benedict, Lane had the shakshuka, my friend had the chicken & and waffles, and we shared a carafe of mimosas. EVERYTHING was delicious!!😋
Angela Molina
The food was amazing and the service was spot on! This was one of the best restaurants that we have had in Asheville, North Carolina! I would also like to say that our server, Ely S, was very nice and accommodating! I couldn’t have asked for. a better server!
Daniel Son
It was restaurant week - and they had a great menu! We each did a 3 course meal and it was wildly delicious. The desert nearly made me you know what… this place rocks and I’ll be back.
Rich Lau
Never been to New England, but I have a feeling this is what lobstah bisque would taste like.
Bacon thrown into the shrimp 'n grits was a nice touch, not that they needed any help.
And never thought a crostini could have that much flavor!
Shel Chilson
Samantha exceeded all our hopes. I tried a selection of cocktails and the iced wine was my favorite. My food was also amazing I had the petite filet that was cooked perfectly. I asked if they had a side of horseradish cream and they didnt but the general manager *can't remember name* ran across the street to get us some. Went way out of his way to help us. So apprecive of that. My party also tried the desserts and were fantastic and so rich. 10/10 reccomend this place and Samantha as a server!!
Zulema Seguel
Incredible food, cocktails and outstanding service!! They change their menu every month and offer sustainable, local ingredients. If you happen to go in June 2021, be sure to try the watermelon salad and shrimp ceviche. I can't wait to taste the menu next month. Definitely a gem in downtown Asheville. See you there.
Jon Medrano
Awesome experience here! As soon as I came in I was greeted with a smile, sat at the bar top with very cool bartenders and had amazing food and drinks! I will definitely come back next time I'm in town
Goku Gregory
Giving this place 3 stars was being generous. The lobster bisque was good. The stuffed octopus was good but more stuffing than octopus. The main courses were a disappointment. The risotto was cold on top but hot on the inside. The cream sauce it should have didn't exist and seemed more of a solid dish without the sauce. The rabbit meat was good BUT the breading shell it was cooked in was doughy and not edible. The server was very friendly and offered multiple times to recook the whole dish or replace it. She did discount the cost off the total bill at the end which was nice. The dessert was a blueberry meringue which we switched the lemon ice cream for a blueberry lavender. The "dehydrated" fruit just seemed like frozen fruit from a bag. The meringue was VERY good and the ice cream, which was the ice cream of the month i might add, was ok. The atmosphere was quiet and romantic in setting and the waitress was extremely nice. I was disappointed with this place especially after the high rating it has on yelp and Google....

My dining experience at the Chestnut was excellent. Please keep in mind that I planned to splurge a bit before I chose this restaurant. If you're looking for cheap and quick, choose somewhere else. This is the place to visit if you want to enjoy a tasty cocktail with good company, savor the freshly prepared, artistically served dishes, and generally relax in the charming, laid back atmosphere. I might add that the staff is quite accommodating and friendly and the location is excellent. Please don't skip their uniquely delicious desserts.
Phillip Monk
Had a delicious Sakshuka while my wife had the Grilled Filet Benedict, both were superb. My Bloody Mary was tasty and paired well with the entree, while she split a half carafe of the Rose Maxmosa with friends. Great time had by all!
Alex Serrano
This place was amazing. Food was so fresh. We had the shrimp and grits, beets and Brussel sprouts salad and the cauliflower bites. Loved it all!!!
justin meyer
Everything was perfect, food and service, my only complaint is the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. Not on all the dishes, mostly the salads and charcuterie board. It was still a really nice evening. Drinks were the best we had in Asheville.
Reid Waters
Amazing experience!!
Came to Asheville for the first time and made a reservation at Chesnut due to the reviews; WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!
Had Jessica as our server and she was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and certainly elavated our experience.
Definitely recommend this restaraunt to anyone looking for a beautiful restaraunt with amazing food and drinks!
Doralee Bohner
Very nice place. I've been looking for a place to just go to and relax and unwind and all of that and have good food with good service. I think I found it. It's very busy though because it's popular so I don't know how often I'll be able to get in there but it was wonderful.
Brandy Davis
We loved every minute of our experience at the Chestnut! From being greeted and seated to the wait staff and of course our meal. Everything was perfect and we will be back.
SHM
This was our second time coming here and it did not disappoint! We had the Lobster Bisque and Tuna small plate! Shared the Salmon, fried green and tomatoes and the scallops! Best meal we have had in Asheville! Everything is so fresh and yummy!
Heather Bell
I was in town for a trip to Biltmore and, after reading all the great reviews and looking through their menu, I decided to make a reservation at Chestnut for weekend brunch. So glad I got to experience this place!
The restaurant is cozy, classy, and gorgeous. It was decorated for the holidays when I went which just added to the overall charm. Service was fantastic and very hospitable. It was hard to choose what to order as the menu had several tasty sounding options - I highly recommend you try the brunch potatoes as they are amazing! My chicken and waffles and mimosas not only looked great, but tasted fantastic.
Their menu stated that they rotate through available dishes while always keeping some staples which sounds awesome. I just wish I lived closer so I could visit again soon! Highly recommend stopping by and having a meal or just hanging out at the bar.
Stu Fox
Food was good. We were seated at 5. Ordered quickly. Lobster bisque was awesome. However then our main courses took 45 minutes.
Celeste Zipperer
Guessing by patronage on a very rainy day, this is a hit! WONDERFUL food, carefully prepared, and beautifully presented. Not fussy, just can tell these folks know food and are confident and proud of their work.
Great atmosphere in an old building, they've left the tin ceiling exposed. They are chock full of seating options, having a bar area up front, dining around that area, and another section of dining set apart from the front. Great decor, lighting, fixtures, and artwork! The feel is casual, yet we were treated with superb care. Fun menu with lots of creative yet down home choices. Dessert is a MUST. Seriously, we did it to celebrate a birthday, but the sweets here are Divine, certainly not run of the mill.
Highly recommend, be patient and have a reservation! Though there's room for many, the feel remains cozy. Here you take your time, savor, and leave well satisfied.
Caywood Yamnik
Cute vibe and great food. Wonderful waitress. I enjoyed the filet, cooked perfectly with delicious mashed potatoes. My husband got the burger with truffle fries.
Erica Clarkson
Chestnut is a nice restaurant in downtown Asheville. We went on a Saturday night around 9pm. Called in earlier in the day for reservations and did not have openings until 9. Be aware that because it is downtown expect to pay for parking in nearby deck if unable to get street parking. They do not have their own parking. Chestnut changes their menu frequently, perhaps monthly, but they do have staples/resident menu items. I recommend checking the menu online before coming in to see what is on their ever-changing menu. Appetizers range from about $8-$12 and entrees from about $20-$30 something, depending on the protein. Someone recommended the lobster bisque and it was good however it was on the luke warm side. Had a big lunch so we ordered light. In addition to the bisque we ordered bacon wrapped scallops and calamari salad with kale. The scallops were succulent, well cooked, and I wish it was an entree portion instead of the appetizer because you only get 3! My daughter enjoyed her salad. For dessert we got the banana bread option. Our server Samantha was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive to us throughout our time there. It has a nice laid back atmosphere with a healthy mix of fine dining as well as a full bar, which you can sit and eat/drink at
I would definitely visit again if I'm in the area. I only gave 4 stars because of lack of parking options and my bisque not being hot.
Laura Chou
Had an excellent dinner at Chestnut. Every dish we got was great- bacon wrapped scallops, paperdelle, and cauliflower vindaloo. It was an eclectic mix of different cuisines but thought it was well done. I’d recommend Chestnut to anyone visiting Asheville!
Tony Dillard
Food was ok but not worth the price. Seems still unrefined and not plated well. Dessert saved the experience for me
James Lee
After looking at other reviews, my spouse and I decided to give them a try.
Excellent decision on our part.
Outstanding food and service.
victoria Schutter
Great place for a delicious leisurely lunch in downtown Asheville!
Good atmosphere professional service and nice atmosphere.
I had the hamburger which was cooked perfectly. And the Brussels sport slaw rocked. Delicious! My husband had the strip steak sandwich and French fries which he declared “the best of its kind anywhere”
Restaurant is centrally located. The service was quick and friendly.
Karen Boat
The servers are amazing. So friendly and very knowledgeable about their menu. Food is fresh and very favorable. Highly recommend.
Joc Jernigan
This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a while, and def one of if not the best in Asheville, as have had some awesome and not so awesome experiences here. The place is right on Broadway and has an incredible rustic, nice, and clean atmosphere. We were seated and presented with server (my man Woody) promptly. Our drinks orders were taken and delivered fast, and they were delicious ( awesome bloody and great mimosa carafe). Next app orders were taken and served promptly. Lobster bisque and pop tarts were incredible and delicious. Then our main courses were taken and served which were also fantastic. We got the eggs Benedict and the pork belly eggs Benedict which were delicious! Loved the cornbread base. Also cheese grits cooked perfectly, and not too creamy. Entire experience was awesome and refreshing. Can’t wait to go back!
M. G.
Our server Tom was great. He had a wonderful sense of humor and did a great job explaining what sets Chestnut apart from other restaurants downtown. You can tell that everyone from the hostess to the servers take pride in their work.
We highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich for a deliciously filling meal or any of the salads.
On this visit we tried the calamari salad and squash quinoa salad. Both were light, but satisfying for lunch.
The ambiance of this restaurant is perfect for a number of different occasions. From a business lunch or dinner on a night out your side to be pleased with the experience.
Stan Ivanov
Amazing food, atmosphere and service! Our server Samantha was very friendly and had great recommendations from the menu. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Asheville.
Jonathan Pierce
This restaurant is top notch. They truly put a 5 star effort into their quality of food. We ordered shrimp and grits and the charcuterie plate, then the Caramel Tart for dessert. I can’t even describe the layers of tastes and how it all came together with words, so worth every penny!
Brian Lee
The food and service are excellent. Everything was seasoned and prepared perfectly. I had the breakfast sandwich with the sausage patty... Soooo good!
Thomas Morgan
As City Trekkers, we live to just stumble upon great places and share those discoveries. Chestnut, though, was a destination in itself, recommended by friends, and confirmed using our 3 circle method. It doesn't disappoint.
Fried green tomatoes, a staple in the South, shine here because they are pickled before cooking. The perfectly seasoned pear salad with local greens tastes just-picked, and it is.
For the entrees we had two favorites; duck breast and the gnocchi. They could serve just these dishes and I would come back again and again.
If you you know about duck, you know how difficult it is to get the right combination of medium rare without turning it tough as leather. That done, know that the farro, with a dollop of pumpkin-foie gras, could be a stand alone dish. A perfect accompaniment to the duck.
The winter squash gnocchi is light and airy, deceptively so, and is a perfect dish to keep you warm in the cooler autumn air.
Serena Porter
Amazing! Cannot say enough good things! Chesnut was recommended as a place to celebrate a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. From the appetizer to the entree to the dessert. Good service and nice atmosphere. Within quick walking distance from nearby parking deck.
Victoria Vida
The waitress was so nice, and three other people brought things to the table and asked if we needed anything before they walked away. It was National Chip Day so we also got complimentary house made chips. The selection of beer is local, so it's great stuff. Also had the bread pudding which is made from homemade donuts, and it was delicious. Get it with ice cream!
Millie Kwan
This review is only for breakfast/ brunch. Based on all of the reviews that I had read by others, I thought that Chestnut would be a great local restaurant with really interesting and more unique dishes. They do have a special waffle, but otherwise the breakfast choices were fairly mundane and not really that much better than Cracker Barrel. My breakfast burrito was ok with just one side, but it seems that my husband's eggs Benedict was far better. The famous cinnamon roll was also ok, but not comparable to others I've had elsewhere.
Chris A.K.T.
Giving this place a raving review due to this one dish that was the best I’ve ever had... the medium plate of a 4 oz filet with mashed potatoes and green beans. Unbelievable.
We also loved the kale salad with calamari. My husband loved the Kobe burger and truffle fries. I got the fried green tomatoes and they weren’t my favorite.
With as much food as we ordered, the cost was on point.
Enrique Martinez
Best farm to table restaurant in Asheville. The menu changes monthly to maintain quality in food seasonality/ availability. We ordered lobster bisque, grilled salmon and quail. The quail was served as a pair, one fried and the other oven roasted..... just delicious.
Nathan Shaw (FightinIrish79)
Had a wonderful dinner after getting engaged earlier during the day. Food was spot on and the drinks and dessert topped it off!
Emmit Otter
Wonderful food and great service. I definitely recommend eating here. Will be coming back next time we are in Asheville.
Nana Xu
Savory, quaint local food at the heart of Asheville. The food was perfectly seasoned and presented beautifully. My fiance had the shepherd's pie from the medium plates menu, which he devoured. The rest of us tried the petit filet. The meat was cooked perfectly, seasoned with salt and pepper with creamy mashed potatoes, green beans and a really delicious potato chip (yes, just one but it was the most scrumptious chip I've ever had). They also boast an extensive wine menu as well as an interesting cocktail menu and local brews. The service was fast and friendly. It made our Asheville visit all the more pleasant. I am bookmarking this place for our future Asheville trips!
**
The food was delicious!! Our waitress was wonderful. The menu is seasonal and locally sourced ingredients were very fresh. The salads were unique and tasty. Ordered Sea Bass as the daily catch and it was phenomenal! The setting is comfortable and located downtown with a wonderful staff. One of Asheville's best restaurants.
Thomas Brunhart
Had a lovely meal in this quaint artistic burg. I had the ribs and found them to be good, but not spectacular. The bartendress was so very nice and we did get Lobster Bisque that was out of this world. This is one restaurant worthy of a visit. We will go back to try more courses.
Ida Guadalupe
Very impressed! We came for brunch and there was a small band playing light jazz, among other genres. We ordered the special (a ribeye hash), and the capicola eggs Benedict. Both dishes were amazing and well-prepared. For the price they were well beyond expectations, as both meals were under $15.
The ambience was very laid back, but slightly upscale. We sat at the bar due to a last minute decision, but I recommend getting a reservation before you come here.
I highly recommend anyone visit here and enjoy the wonderful service, relaxed ambience, and amazing food.
Adam Wilson
I usually don't leave reviews but this is such a great restaurant! Marchella was one of the best servers I've had and made my birthday dinner one to remember. The food was literally to die for! Words can't express how flavorful and perfect the dishes were. I've never had turkey cooked that way before, and even the banana cake and ice cream was 10 out of 10! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area because it is a MUST to try their food. I know I'll be stopping by again next time I'm in Asheville!
C T
Samantha was our waitress and she was friendly and knowledgeable of the food here. Her recommendations were on point! The food was delicious.
Jenny B
Taylor the bartender took care of us. He was fantastic! Food was amazing! Prompt service, professional staff. Very enjoyable. Thanks guys!
Cameron Congleton
Staff is super friendly, they were able to bump our reservation up slightly. The food is excellent! We got the lobster bisque, & the oysters on the half shell (omg so fresh!) to start. For entrees I ordered the lamb lollipops but they were a bit chewy(cooked per the chefs recommendation), but the sauce and potato cake were a nice compliment. My husband got the duck, phenomenal! We ended up switching plates halfway through. Then had the gluten free maple ice cream, blondie dessert which husband really enjoyed. Great experience, would highly recommend for a nice date night.
Joyce Cahoon
Great ambience and live music, a little disappointed by the chestnut brunch bowl, the flavors are all great alone, but too rich together. The rhubarb poptart though is on point, would definitely try again
Dalton Janssen
This restaurant is decent. I would not recommend the seasonal drinks we had. Stick with classics. The seasonal ones were odd and not satisfying. The food was good! But make sure to ask many questions as they change the menu often and the dishes are not classic dishes. I got the shrimp and grits and was pleased. The steak my wife got was slightly undercooked. Good pricing.
Joe Guseman
One of the best meals I've had in a long time! We started with the lobster bisque which was so creamy and had the perfect amount of lobster. Then we went on to the fried green tomatoes, the smoked gouda pimento cheese was to die for! Don't even get me started on the mussels. They were also amazing served with the perfect sauce. 10 out of 10 would love to come back. As a local I looked forward to trying many more of the menu items. The chef here truly is amazing.
Sophie Keller
Delicious! Great upscale, special occasion restaurant. Ordered the fried oysters, pork shank, mocktail and dessert. Highly recommend!
T
The two of us ate dinner at Chestnut on a Thursday evening. Very nice menu, with plenty of quite different choices, basic things to the more sophisticated items. We both received what we ordered and it was prepared appropriately. No surprises. The service was provided by Samantha, who knew the menu and the fare, and everything was served in a timely way; she was attentive but not overly so. My spouse and I enjoyed the experience, and we believe anyone could take others to dinner confident that food and service would be good. Clean, comfortable, pleasant, place to dine, without raucous music or any interruptions. You can talk to your dinner partner in this restaurant.
Devin O. Stewart
amazing barbeque sandwich. Fried chicken sandwich was excellent as well. Good selection of vegetarian entrees. Good draft beer list. Nice casual atmosphere.
Deena Ward
I love love love this restaurant! I had a great meal last week in Asheville. We had a great waitress that was so attentive and friendly. The drinks were good the appetizer were awesome and the meal was phenomenal! I can’t wait to have another meal here while visiting Asheville!
Andrew Mathewes
Food was right on the border between 4 and 5. I had the vegan rancheros, solid. Had a bite of chilaquelas, phenomenal. Delicious donuts. Great service and aura on top of all that.
Joe Fernandez
The food, service, and atmosphere was great! This was our first time and we're definitely going back.
George Owen
Must Go.!!! Service is excellent. Food is Van tastic!!! 4 oz filet is the best. Grits and shrimp. The fish. Wow!!!
Eddie Glance, Realtor
Had dinner at Chestnut yesterday and it was wonderful. Everything from the appetizers to the mind blowing dessert were all absolutely delicious. The staff took great care of us and we are already looking forward to going back.
Melanie Fiato
We visited Ashville for a few days and loved our visit and experience at this restaurant. Taylor waited on us at the bar. We had great appetizers Salad with calamari & fried green tomatoes excellent. next course Shrimp & grits was the best I ever had (better than New Orleans) Hubby had Chestnut Kobe Burger! Cocktails were great , service was great!
thatscentsylife
Gosh what a fantastic gem of a restaurant we found all of the local used items refreshing and fantastically flavorful if you're in the area make sure you stop by and check out all of their local crafted items they make eating food a remarkable experience
Jessi Znosko
Fantastic food and cocktails. We went with a group of 6 and every dish was really delicious. The PEI mussels, filet, lobster bisque and risotto were the top dishes of the night. I ordered the outdoorsman cocktail. Wow! Really great! Highly recommend. Cozy atmosphere.
Maggie Saunders
Wow...this restaurant was such a surprise! The chef really has such an inventive and nuanced take on classic southern dishes. The shrimp and grits are really amazing, spicy and meaty! The trout ravioli was also shear perfection, a must for pasta lovers! For dessert we had the banana pudding, very light and creamy, fabulous take on the typical southern way of serving. And for the childhood favorite, the s'more parfait, just wow! I've never been so impressed with such a high level of execution to southern classics! Service was excellent as well! Thank you for a great evening!
Joyce Welch
We have eaten here our last three wedding anniversaries! I love the locally sourced original dishes. Great wine list.
Amber
The food is wonderful, but the quantity is not worth the prices in my opinion. Our table had reservations and also waited a very long time for seating and again for food, however the waitress was super sweet. Overall 3 out of 5 experience, would probably try other restaurants in the area before going again.
Benjamin Hertz
Everything we ordered was amazing. Our service was also unbelievable. They do it right here. I can't wait to come back!
Justin Kelly
Thanks Taylor! Wife had shrimp and grits and I enjoyed the lamb!! See you all soon!
Ryan
Amazingly Excellent food and equally amazingly excellent staff. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating and our food came out fast and tasted perfect. 10/10 would eat there again thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Caylin Paige
My server and the bartender went out of their way to create a mocktail version of one of their signature cocktails for me. It meant alot to me because I do not drink alcohol anymore but still love to have a fancy drink. Great service, great taste, great experience. Also would like to add they charged me fairly for the drink that had no alcohol too. I have been to other establishments that over charge for non alcoholic versions of drinks. This establishment did not do that to me.
Sean Wilson
My wife and I went and had possibly the best meal we have EVER had. The food was wonderful and the service was impeccable. Can't wait until we are in the area again!
Emily McKinney
Chestnut is a nice respite in the heart of downtown Asheville. With a seasonal, artisanal menu that changes regularly there are lots of offering to choose from. I’m a fan of the classic cheeseburger, personally!
Edwin Cheung
Great atmosphere, great service, great food, and good value for what you're getting. Highly recommend. Shout-out to Taylor :)
Milly Parker
Great charcuterie & ready with the gluten free options! Calamari and cocktails were lovely - but the desserts were pretty fun too: A gluten-free lemon bar with lavender ice cream. And a blood orange crème brûlée.
Danielle Nevarez
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! Food was DELICIOUS, the subtle 1920s vibe is nice and good selection of cocktails too. The bartender Taylor was kind and made my experience more enjoyable. Highly recommend the bread pudding!!
Olga Li
Love love love this place! Dessert sealed the deal for me the best ones I’ve had in North Carolina!
Meg Tisdale
I sat alone at the bar and had a great conversation with the bar tender all evening.
I had a few of the "chefs bites" from the kitchen, an appetizer, an entree and dessert. Everything was good!
They also have 1/2 off wine bottles on Wednesdays! Excellent piece of information to have 😉
Pam Clifford
We had an amazing dinner here! Great service staff, food was delicious. Highly recommend Chestnut!
Jason Barney
Stopped in for Brunch on Sunday. Lovely spot with warm and attentive service. Gotta say they hit the mark on service and ambience. It is a bit noisy, so I felt like my wife and I had to almost yell to have a conversation. Ordered the donuts and fried chicken and waffles. This place does carbs incredibly well. The donut and waffles were both perfect. The fried chicken, sausage, and gravy were bland as could be. Not sure what was missing, but flavor shouldn't be it when devouring a spectacle like fried chicken and waffles smothered in gravy. Would go back but go for something else, like the challah french toast (which looked Fab on someone else's plate!)
Carrie Rector
We enjoyed our visit, the risotto was great, and we enjoyed the charcuterie as well. My husband enjoyed the ribeye and the lobster mac was great, although we didn't taste any lobster but we would visit again.
Alyssa Boni
What a great place! From the atmosphere to the food to the service, I loved it! Be sure to ask for Jessica, she was such a great server!
Jennifer Burleyson
What a fabulous meal!! Scallops, trout and shrimp and grits all 3 great choices!! Highly recommend anything in this menu!
james scott sumter
Mmmmmmm delicious and a great wine list to go with a varied and very well prepared foods menu; served by a knowledgeable, well versed staff. One cannot go wrong here
Bill Goforth
General manager was very attentive and took care of us well. Lobster bisque, charcuterie, pecan crusted Trout, and bacon wrapped pork belly was our choice from the menu.
Ms. Jen
A fantastic restaurant in downtown Asheville. We started with the lobster bisque and the Spanish calamari salad. The bisque was full of flavor, creamy and rich. The Spanish Calamari salad was off the charts delicious. The kale was fresh, calamari flavorful and the touch of saffron aioli was delightful. For dinner we all enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the mahi special and the shank! All fantastic! The presentation was gorgeous, excellent wine selection and the service was top-notch! We look forward to another visit! Thank you for a lovely evening!
Michael Schipani
0ne of the very best restaurants I've ever eaten at. The Trout and Salmon were spectacular. Desert and coffee will not disappoint. Interior ambience was really well done!
Molly Markel
Great atmosphere. Incredible drink menu. Food was small in size but tasted wonderful.
Parker Hayes
Lordy. I don’t even know where to begin. Actually, I do. I’m jumping right in to the mushroom gnochi that I could eat until I exploded. No hyperbole as I nearly did just that. Shrimp and grits? Fantastic. Spicy. Savory. Delicious. Frog legs? Glad I tried them. Tasted like chicken and batter was delicious. Think corn dog or a hush puppy. Charcuterie board starter. Amazing. Local and imported cheese and meats that all paired fantastically. Craft cocktails? You bet. Whiskey sour that set the mood for the evening high. Our waitress was extremely friendly, knowledge, and helpful in our navigation of their menus as every. single. item. Looks delicious. And I assume is delicious. If you’re looking for a 10/10 dinner. This is your spot!!!! Ok I’ve sat on this a few minutes. This mushroom gnocchi is life changing. I’m so full. And I can’t stop eating it. Mother of the dear lord baby Jesus somebody stop me. Took another break. Dessert came out. I’m dead. This is an angel writing this. 12/10? 100/10?? I don’t even know. It was astounding. Paired with an espresso martini? I didn’t stand a chance. Out of body experience. My taste buds are not going to accept other food after this meal. If you don’t come here you probably think McDonald’s is fancy. If this is the only meal you have in Asheville you will be a happy camper. Enjoy. And thanks to Chestnut for the best meal of our two week road trip
Max Wenneker
Everything we ate was awesome except the NY strip, which was expensive for not being a great piece of meat. Calamari on kale was great. Drinks were awesome.
Frank Freitas
Such a beautiful restaurant with pleasant souls serving the guests. Jessica was such a sweetheart to me when I came in and sat at the bar by myself... I appreciate good food and a nice restaurant, but having quality people employed makes experiences unforgettable. Cheers and Namaste.
Sean ODonnell
The 3 oz filet is the perfect size and price! Great mixture of flavors. Friendly staff too. Must hit again!
David Danner
Great space. Lobster bisque is super. Eggs frittata was more egg than veggies. Beignets just ok.
I would certainly come back again.
Adam Tuiletufuga
Visited for Brunch and loved it! Atmosphere is great, with old fashioned decor all around. Service was quick and our waitress was attentive and nice. I had a the Agers Breakfast, which is your classic eggs, bread and a side. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the sausage was great, the English muffin was toasted just right, and the crispy potatoes were DELICIOUS (includes Yukon gold and sweet potatoes diced and fried). My wife had their homemade Poptart, which was huge taking up the whole plate. She liked the berry(?) filling a lot.
We will gladly return for brunch next time we are visiting Asheville!
Argery Giavasis
Try their homemade donuts if they haven't sold out for the day! Delicious breakfast and lunch options. Reservations are definitely recommended. A little hard to find but it is on the main road...the sign is just hard to read.
Mike Gladish
Attentive, informative service with very pleasant personality. Food and wine were fantastic, especially the Zucchini soup.
Keith Weilacher
We loved our dinner at the Chestnut. They're popular so make a dinner reservation if you plan to go.
Tony Rector
The staff was friendly and prompt. The lobster bisque was a little bland and had just a few bits of lobster, a long way off from Maine lobster bisque, but everything else was good.
Rachel Carter
Wonderful experience and meal. Tomahawk pork chop was a great mix of flavors. We also ordered the scallops, quail, butternut soup and cheese board. Everything was outstanding! Would definitely come back just for the dessert; the pastry chef knows what she’s doing!!
Amanda Deal
Incredible chef and food! I have a cinnamon allergy that he was sure to communicate what would be available in the height of autumn AKA cinnamon season in the mountains. Wait staff was peculiar but friendly and helpful, this was for a party of 6 and they did do a great job. Shrimp and grits looked incredible l, mussels were spicy and lobster pasta looked incredible. I had the fried green tomatoes that I couldn’t get enough of! Incredible meal, would highly recommend for a private couple or group!
Josh
Surely on the list of best restaurants in AVL. Professional service, incredible food, rotating menu, clean ingredients, great location. It’s where I bring all my friends and family who come to visit.
Lynda Mattison
My husband and I returned to Chestnut after a two year break for the pandemic. To say we were delighted would be an understatement! Our server, Jessica, was completely helpful and had great familarity with the menu. In my opinion, the dishes were presented with great elegance on top of how they tasted. I'd highly recommend the Winter Strawberry salad and Crow's own shrimp and grits. The Maple Sundae we had for dessert was over the top amazing. I doubt you would be disappointed dining here. It is a place I would definitely take friends from out of town. Thanks so much, Chestnut, for hanging in there through these times, and getting even better!
Lindsay Beyke
My friends and I had dinner at Chestnut last night for a girls evening and it was a wonderful experience. We made reservations and were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server Steve made great suggestions and was very attentive. Every small plate/appetizer and entree we ordered was truly great. This may be a staple now each time we travel to Asheville. I’d you can get a reservation, I highly recommend!
Jesse Cotton
I don't write reviews unless a place is FANTASTIC. Came here for Sunday Brunch. Ordered the Capicola Eggs Benedict, cheese grits, and Biscuit and Gravy. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS COMBO RIGHT HERE! first off, Biscuit and Gravy are on point. Biscuit- Flakey, gravy-peppery, sausage-savory, AND THEN you take some cheese grits and eat them together... Your tongue will immediately start saying words like y'all and yonder once it tastes these two symbols of the South mixed together... BUT THATS NOT ALL! The in-house cured ham on the eggs Benedict is freakin phenomenal. Ham has the finest hint of salt, taste of maple, and faint aftertaste of sweet dill. The eggs are poached to perfection and are topped with just enough hollandaise sauce... Not too much, not too little... Just enough. Get in here and get you some!
Only slightly negative thing I can say is the coffee is meh. Not bad, just meh.
Jim Smitherman
I really enjoyed my meal at Chestnut last night due in large part to my server Rachel...and great food. I arrived after a hectic day and Rachel gave me the time to enjoy a cocktail before ordering my meal. She knows menu well and she made great suggestions. I never felt rushed but I was well attended to. The food was great and I'll definitely return.
Susan Schulz
Fabulous dinner! We had shrimp & grits (amazing) and the petite filet (also amazing) with a nice bottle of red wine. Couldn't resist sharing the 'coffee, scotch & cigars' dessert - perfect! Highly recommend Chestnut!
Laura Dunmyer
I'm so glad we made reservations during our stay in Asheville. The seasonal menu is delicious and creative. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal, the appetizers and this beautiful dessert. The atmosphere, food, drinks and staff made this meal a perfect part of our vacation.
Tony Rossi
Chestnut is definitely one of the best restaurants in Asheville. Our server would've made Alton Brown proud with her knowledge of all the dishes and their ingredients, as well as the cocktail and wine menu. Warning: it might be a mortal sin to visit Chestnut and NOT order the truffle fries. 😋
Joseph Shiber
Wow, it is unusual that a restaurant exceeds my expectations. We arrived early for an 8 pm reservation and they were able to seat us without issue. Their menu changes every month. This fact is wonderful and ensures we receive great, fresh food and challenges the chef to be creative. They simply killed it. Lobster bisque was one of the best I have every experienced. Creamy and tasty. Wife had the soup of the day which was a potato and ramp. Delicious and fresh, she could not have asked for more. Our mains: pork cheek ravioli...a little disappointed at first until the egg spread its flavor across the remaining ravioli. WOW! The portion was perfect. She had the mushroom pot pie. Mushrooms forreged the chefs. This was a vegan meal that truly was better than the ravioli and full of flavor and textures that made each fork full a delight. I must digress and mention the bar with the delicious cocktails. She had a jalapeños pineapple and cinnamon drink that was spicy yet refreshing. Absolutely delightful. Beer menu was good and varied along with a large wine menu. Not a big wine drinker but the menu appeared to be enough for even a experienced wine person. Dessert taken to go because the food was so intoxicating that we needed to go home. WOW it was fantastic. Service was great from the hostess to server we never felt rushed or in need of anything. I rarely write reviews but the Chestnut and our experience made me write this review. I could not be more impressed, delighted and happy. Thank you for doing what it is obviously something you love to do. Well done!!!!
Kt
You will not be disappointed here. The mussels were absolutely delicious. We needed more bread for the sauce. The filet will live in my memory for all eternity. The oyster salad was also delightful. You must come here and taste for yourself! Our server was pleasant and helpful with menu recommendations. And the cocktails were exceptional as well! We will be back!
John Keller
Fantastic dinner. Charcuterie board, caprese and pork barbacoa were all wonderful. Also tried one of their craft cocktails which was really tasty.
Service was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful pulling together an assortment of dishes. Knew how to check in often enough, but not too often. My water never ran out but I never felt rushed.
Will definitely be back
K H
Delicious creative dishes and extensive wine selection! Very comfortable seating and welcoming knowledgeable servers and hosts. Great dining experience 👍👍 …
Jonathan Robbins
We made a reservation here on recommendation from a friend who knows the area and we LOVED our dinner at Chestnut. Every course was top notch. The cherry sauce on the pork chop was incredible. The scallop small plate was a highlight. The staff was super friendly and helpful when we couldn't decide what to order. We left very satisfied and will definitely stop in again if we come through town.
cristina coldebella
Absolutely loved your brunch! Best avocado toast I have ever had! I added goat cheese and poached eggs. Happy to see your breakfast potatoes included a variety. The sweet potatoes were a great touch. Veggie sausage tasted amazing! Thank you for having those options. My mom had the Bagel and Lox, my father the crab cake hollandaise. All were enjoyed!
Robin Martin
So, we made a last minute reservation for 15 for dinner on Monday night. Waitstaff was incredibly attentive, even with all of our requests. There was never an empty glass or dirty plate left on the table. Food was tasty. Wine list was much better than we thought it would be. We shared a few appetizers. And I had the 8 oz steak that was cooked to perfection. There was a potato cake of sorts that came with the steak. My suggestion- sub the potato cake for some other veggie, as it was incredibly salty and not good at all. Desserts... The lemon cake looked like a cake that your mom who hates baking made the night before a school party because you "forgot" to tell her. It was a lemon raspberry work of......ummm...I don't know kindergarten art I guess?? HOWEVER....The pecan sundae was AMAZING. The wait staff, the kitchen staff, literally every person working that night made our dinner an amazingly great night.
nina mirhabibi
Delicious food, excellent cocktails, attentive staff! 100% will go back to dine here again.
Brittany Vegso
Incredible food from a seasonal menu. Everything I’ve ever had was rave-worthy. Staff are friendly and ambience is cool without being stuffy. Only downside is they’re so great that walk-ins seem to not be an option but thankfully the takeout is just as good!
Aimee Lawson
Great ambiance and fun place for dinner. I had one of their medium plates, the petit fillet. So delicious. We also enjoyed the smores dessert. Highly recommend while in Asheville.
Derek McConnell
Flavors in the shrimp/grits and pappardelle were a bit too strong. Maybe oversalted too. Everything was high quality though. Overall pretty good, I would go back
Melody Cooper
The best place to work. They treat staff amazingly, always keeping everybody fed and they’re happy to jump in to help if its needed. Incredible restaurant all around.
Christina Wolf
Went here tonight for dinner as it was highly recommended. Very delicious dinner. We got the truffle fries, the fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and grits. The fried green tomatoes were so good. They came out stacked with pimento cheese and a tomato sauce. The shrimp and grits was very filling and heavy. Sort of spicy and smoky. A little too peppery for my taste but good. Excellent, lengthy drink menu. I found a new favorite wine based off of the waitresses recommendation. Service was awesome! Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave very great recommendations. She was very on top of things. She also mentioned that the staff meets monthly to sample the menu. Definitely had to make a reservation. Love that they change the menu monthly to keep up with the seasons. Would come here again.
Darren Brooks
Great food and wonderful environment. Service was superb.
Sylvia Harrow
Chestnut was a sweet experience for a married date night. They achieve the right balance of care and attention without being overbearing. We were encouraged to order the hand cut truffle fries and loved them. I loved the Mushrooms Wellington, a nice vegetable based main dish. My spouse ordered the Pork Belly Ramen, which was a beautifully presented dish. I'll be happy to go again.
Yuqiong Zhou
Delicious brunch, pictured items include Eggs Benedict with chips and a smoked salmon toast with grits and dill hollandaise
John Kellar
Cajun seared catfish was a delight with enough Cajun seasoning that still allowed the catfish to come through without tasting like muddy bottomfish and pork boudin with it was almost a bonus meal in itself. I couldn't get enough of all the flavors in one spoonful together with the veggies and almost found myself wolfing the entire plate down. I would have ordered a second on the spot.
Gerald Jantzi
Absolutely bodacious cuisine! Every dish was creative, packed with flavor and properly plated. A must stop on your next visit to Ashville.
Chuck Tann
Great staff & original menu, not to mention the best burger anywhere.
Chris Bourgoyne
Staff was very attentive and friendly!! Oh and the Brussel Sprouts!! So delicious! I would definitely eat and drink here again!
Tony Arnold
Superb ambience and food. Highly recommend. Met the owner who really cares about his food and style of his interior.
H B
Food wasn’t worth the hype of being one of the best restaurants in city! Polite and fast staff :)
Christine D. Page
Great restaurant and service. One of the best in Asheville!
Leanna Pollack
Fantastic charcuterie and great servers to recommend wines!
Jeffrey Bagdon
Had to take a 530 table this place is so crowded and I see why food is spectacular perfect friendly service good wine selection prices are in line with level of quality…truffle fries you can’t stop eating.. pumpkin cake is a come backer
Martha Brockway
Everything we had was perfect, from drinks to charcuterie, entrees and dessert. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Our waitress was friendly without being annoying and the service was excellent. I recommend it highly.
Kayna Clemons
We absolutely love Chestnut! The GM Brad treats his customers like royalty. Jessica and Taylor are fantastic bartenders and are so attentive. The food is out of this world and the menu changes monthly so you can try something different each time you come. Whenever we come to town this is the only restaurant we want to dine at!
Michele Dambrosio
Absolutely amazing! Best restaurant I've ever been to! The food was perfect but what really made the experience was the service! They really went above and beyond! The set the bar so high! It was raining as we were leaving and they even offered us an umbrella! 100000% would recommend to anyone! If you come to asheville do not miss this place! It is a must!
Alec Mitchell
Ate here with a large party for a bachelor party. It was absolutely an amazing experience. The food was phenomenal. We couldn’t stop ordering the crab rangoon appetizer. The pork chop was delicious and everyone in the party raved about their entrees. The service was unbelievable, the manager was very kind to us. If I am ever back in Asheville I am coming straight here.
Lindley Myers
My husband and I chose Chestnut to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We couldn't have made a better choice! As a local I tend to save dinner at Chestnut for special occasions but after our experience tonight I think I'll be coming around much more often. It feels like a special occasion because the food and service are always 5 star but the atmosphere is so welcoming and without pretense that the overall experience is relaxing and fun. Every bite of everything was a treat. The staff was excellent, attentive, and knowledgeable. And to top it all off I was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill. I highly recommend dinner here for any occasion or no occasion but make a reservation cause they're hoppin'!
Chris Chris
AMAZING food and fantastic service. The truffle fries were plentiful, the scallops were tender and the sauce was wonderful, and the filet mignon and crispy potato side was delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and provided truly expert service.
Javier Gonzalez
I can’t say enough good things about this place! We were able to make same day reservations when we came into Asheville. When we came in the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We were promptly seated once our table cleared. The food was amazing. I had beet salad. After ordering I asked our waitress if it had any tree nut products, because my son is allergic. She was unable to confirm with the kitchen by the time it came to the table but she was incredibly gracious and brought out a small serving for my son without pistachios. The salad was outstanding. For the main course I had the Tomahawk chop. It was amazing. Everything in the dish just worked. Great cheesy grits, Brussels sprouts and demi. For desert, we had the banana fosters ice cream. It was incredible. It had a great banana flavor with a caramel sauce and these crispy crumbles that were just insane. Again, everything just worked. These folks take their craft seriously and it shows in their food and their service. We love Asheville and we’ll be eating here every time we come back.
Siddeshwar Raghavan
TLDR: best hosts, experience, food and drinks to finish off our time in Asheville.
The people at Chestnut were awesome, they created our own off the menu items based on dietary restrictions and gave us the best time before we leave Asheville! Amazing food and cocktails to top it off, would highly recommend checking this place out :)
Randy Mitchelson
This was our first stop after setting up in our hotel room. Easy walk from anywhere downtown and well worth it. We waited a bit as this is very popular and they are very good at adhering to social distancing. We ate at the bar and the bartender might as well have been the chef. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the menu and how each dish was prepared. The potato soup was the best we've ever had. Bottle it up and ship me a case. Who knew you could elevate potato soup - it was more like a bisque and the seasonings made it very flavorful. Our dinner was perfectly prepared and our only regret is we had to rush out as we had tickets for an event. Would definitely have on my return list next time we visit Asheville.
Phillip Hall
This restaurant tries too hard. In their effort to stand out and be new and fresh, they land overly seasoned and riskily strange. Some of it was really good, some of it was inedible. If you are looking for Russian roulette adventure style dining, this is a great choice. If you are looking for a romantic spot to treat your wife for your anniversary, keep looking.
Francesca R
Although the staff was cheerful, my husband was not upon receiving the child-sized portion of linguine with scallops. The mussels dish was tasty, but the baguette to go with it was "slim-pickings" too.
For the price of the dishes, it was not adequate. We had several other meals in Ashville, that were well prepared, delicious and much better values.
Stephanie El-Hajj
This place has been on my list for awhile since they're WNC cheese trail members. Solid cocktails, solid wine by the glass selection, solid menu. Delightful staff. Shout out to Taylor specifically for being a wonderful bartender. My ONLY complaint was the beautiful Last Word had ice shards. Otherwise we spent four incredible hours eating our way through the menu: charcuterie board, oysters, lamb, gnocchi, chocolate olive oil cake. Because of this great experience, I'm excited to try Corner Kitchen. A+.
O D
Huge flavors…attentive service. Very busy …waited 1.5 hours for table …
Eileen Ayuso
This restaurant never disappoints. The food is prepared with care and presented beautifully. The staff are always knowledgeable and gracious. The atmosphere is comfortable while making you feel like you're having a fine dining experience.
Howard B
In a foodie mecca, Chestnut is a standout! Everything is fresh, tasty and spot on. Super friendly service, great drinks, amazing food! My girl had the lobster bisque and scallops with linguine. I had a seasonal pork schnitzel as recommended by our server. We were both very happy and although we're in South Florida, Chestnut will see us on our next Asheville visit!
Margaret Hayworth
Very nice restaurant, we arrived without reservations & opted to dine at the bar. The servers were very attentive, food was great. We ordered the special which was a flat iron steak with green beans & a potato coquette. The steak was cooked perfectly just as we ordered. Would definitely go back again.
Kathryn Hazelton
This place is wonderful. We had a surprise 5th person joining our party and the manager was so gracious to accommodate the addition to a table. The food is absolutely amazing, the cocktails are well crafted and tasty, and the desserts are positively sinful. Highly recommend!
Robert G
We're visiting Asheville and came across this fabulous restaurant. I cannot properly express how pleasant our dining experience was. The menu wascompact, varied, and mouth watering. It has some mainstays but the options change due to the farm to table/seasonal availability. The cocktails were good, but the food itself was outstanding, shrimp and grits? Delicious! Filet mignon... cooked to perfection, and the crawfish cakes? I would murder for another. The service was also outstanding, friendly , efficient and knowledgeable. All set in a lovely atmosphere. This is a must stop restaurant and will become a regular on our visits to Asheville.
jts3
Always top notch. Chef Crow is the best. Taylor bartender also very informative and attentive!
Gail Joseph
We went there for Saturday brunch and it was a great experience! The food was delicious and there was live music which was just perfect!
jennebritton1
My husband and I dined at Chestnut last night to celebrate our anniversary. Our server Rachael was so great and really navigated our experience so we could get the most out of our time there. We had the lobster bisque ( best I've had in a LONG time), shared a few of the small plates which were incredible, and then shared the duck as a main course. My husband and I both enjoyed drinks paired by our server and she was perfectly attentive to us. Phil the manager stopped by and made sure we were enjoying everything and he was also really nice to talk with. The vibe is great, the food is out of this world and the service was top notch. Don't hesitate to visit Chestnut for your next meal.
Jamie Smith
Absolutely amazing food from start to end. Local eats with fresh ingredients and tons of tatse. Full of locals so you know it's good. Service was too notch and friendly! Definitely worth a visit.
Debra Beatty
There were 4 people in our party and we all got what sounded good to us. Everything tasted so great. We had the shrimp dish, the trout dish, the kobi burger and the 8 oz strip steak. Then we all had the dessert of our choice. That was great, too.
Kate Smith
When I think of a perfect dining experience this place is pretty damn close. Cocktails made perfectly and petite filet was one of the best I’ve ever had. I wish I could share pictures but the food was already gone before I even thought of it. Our server, Woody, was excellent and had fantastic wine recommendations. Can’t wait to come back, and, if you do, order a muddled old fashioned.
Bill Martin
We had a fabulous dinner at Chestnut on the last night of our Asheville vacation. The menu was interesting, inviting, and even surprising in its variety. The food was delicious, well prepared and well presented. The ambience was great with diners clearly enjoying themselves. Our waitress Rachel was terrific. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, very responsive to our needs, and a lot of fun besides. She helped make the evening very special.
Terry Dunn
First time here...sat at the bar. Jessica was an awesome server. Had several small plates instead of entrees: grilled octopus and Spanish calamari salad were outstanding!!! Reserve and visit early...
Waylen Crump
Delicious food and great service. A little expensive, but there are definitely some affordable options. Ambiance was good.
Carissa Conine
Cocktails were creative and well-made, the desserts were delicious, and the staff (bartenders and hosts) were very cordial. Highly recommend for drinks and an upscale vibe!
Joel Johnson
Amazing staff. The food is on point, winner list is solid and very reasonablely priced. THE best carrot cake I've ever had!
Brett Hamrick
Fabulous dinner made even better by the friendly and exceptional service.
Christopher Ryden
The food was amazing, the best meal we have had in a while.
David Martin
A perfect location for my wife's surprise anniversary dinner. Fabulous staff, great food and easy to plan the surprise remotely... totally professional!
Austin Smith
Amazingly good food. I've tried a couple "3 stared" restaurants and this was way better. Did a great job with the farm to table element without being pretentious. Cocktails were on point. Desert game could use some fine tuning but not a single complaint. Will definitely be back. Wish I could give you more than 5 stars. Amazing
Oliver Manalac
Definitely worth a visit. Serious farm to table vibe with a well thought out menu!
Lyna Benhacine
I went here on an Friday evening for drinks and apps. I believe it was the owner who sat us and walked us through the menu and that interaction alone made me love this place. He walked us through each item on the menu and loved that each dish was attached to a chef his background. I love love that the owner seems to give his employees creative freedom. Drinks were great as well, and I loved the atmosphere here! Will come again for a meal!
Beth Schoenheit
I wish the soup and appetizers came out hot instead of warm. Cold before you're done eating
ET Bass
Shared bacon scallops, beef filet, and lobster bisque. Food was top notch. Service was also friendly and fast. Hidden gem of a little cafe.
Vera Deckard
Great Service, amazing Bloody Mary, awesome patty melt, home made pop tarts on crack...what more could you ask for?
Steve Lee
I was actively looking for somewhere local to my hotel to eat. The restaurant was pretty busy but the bar not so much. After a warm greeting I was seated at the bar and opted for Chestnut’s version of a dirty martini. They description looked like there was a lot going on but, boy, did it work! Literally the best dirty martini I’ve ever had ( had a second just to check). The lobster bisque was on point, as was the shrimp and grits.
I cancelled tonight’s reservation at another restaurant just to go back ….
Dock Solomon
We enjoyed a great dinner at the Chestnut. Reservations are recommended. The food and service were excellent. Desert was awesome.
Ben Peterson
Excellent food and impeccable service! Very nice menu with some really great options. Server gave us the right amount of attention, and perfect amount of detail in describing menu and specials. Not over-the-top but genuine and informative. Food was impressive. Kale and calamari salad was my favorite, excellent combination of flavors. Brussels was a great medium dish. Would definitely recommend this for a night out with your sweetie.
Thomas De
Came with a group of 8 for a birthday celebration and it exceeded our expectations by a long shot! The food was absolutely amazing. The service was above and beyond. If youre on the fence about eating here dont even hesitate just get youre reservations asap! And all the cool thing to do in downtown ashville are walking distance and parking is super close by. We will be back! Samantha was our waitress and she was the absolute best!!!!
Lawrence Potts
GF fried green tomatoes were the bomb! The petite steak, Kobe burger and market catch we all delicious. Stephanie was great and provided attentive service and great food suggestions. Yum, just yummy.
yasin acikdeniz
We were in town few days on thanksgiving week. We were very disappointed with restaurants and dining options. We decided to eat here on our last night after long tour we had. The food was amazing real art!! The cocktails are delicious and service was top much!! Kudos to all team
melissa roberts
Excellent service and the food is delicious!! Megan
catered to our every desire with a smile! We started
with an amazing kale & pomegranate citrus salad, it was wonderful.
I had the grass fed petite filet with
haricot vert.. The meat was cooked to perfection
with a nice crust and tender and juicy center.
My husband had the Kobe burger with truffle fries. It was
delish!!! And we had maple ice cream for dessert.
Huge selection of Local beers.
The whole meal was
divine!
Thank you Megan and cheers to the chef!!
Kristie F
Had reservations for two we were seated promptly and had several different dishes all were well prepared and tasty! Great service with attentive staff and a nice table. Enjoyed the night!
Harold Mayfield
Nice fairly priced restaurant in Asheville NC. The lobster bisque was light and flavorful. The NY Strip was cooked and seasoned perfectly as well as the quality of meat was top notch.
Tabitha Hapeman
One of my favorite restaurants in Asheville. The fried green tomatoes are a revelation. My companion got the maple ice cream for dessert and couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Definitely stop in when in town.
Joe Lewellin
Prompt but boring service. The food was fresh but forgettable. A turn and burn for tourists who are sheltered enough to think they’re having a weird time in Asheville.
Caterina Medici
Best restaurant in town without any doubt!
Jessica and J at the bar were wonderful hosts. “Morning ease” is a delicious drink. The food is just to die for! Pork belly, shrimp and grits and the catch of the day were all really good, everything is fresh and wonderfully prepared, and the lobster bisque will make clean the bowl with your finger! :)
Next time we are back in Asheville we’ll definitely be here!!
David Barrett
Yesterday was our second visit to Chestnut & I’m sold on the fact this is the best food you can eat in Asheville & quite honestly the best place I’ve ever eaten anywhere. We have tried different things each trip everything we’ve had has been outstanding. Usually I wouldn’t write a review but I felt I needed to after the excellent service we received last. The manager before our meal saw my wife dropped her napkin & rushed right over with a brand new napkin to replace hers & my wife didn’t even notice she did. The big one was the manager came over toward the end of our meal & said he was going to comp a dessert for us because he felt bad we had to sit near the door where a lot of people were gathering waiting to be seated. On top of that both servers we’ve had we’re great. This restaurant goes above to make sure your taken care & the food can’t be matched.
Gina Krabbendam
One of the best meals I've had in years. Everything was impeccably sublimely delicious. The fig salad!!!! The Brussel sprouts!! Great service. Great ambiance. Plan way ahead if you want to go!
Christin H
Very good food and good ambience. We highly recommend the truffle fries! They were some of the best we’ve ever had. It was also very clean and the staff were all friendly.
Kathryn O'Connell
Good food, even better service. Would come just to see the door guys again!
Christina Stritzinger
The first restaurant in my adult life where I’ve very seriously considered licking the plate. The steak and potatoes really were THAT good, and bananas foster was one of the best desserts I’ve had in at least a few years. Big fan of Asheville and won’t be missing this one on any future trips. Smooth cocktails - they make a great old fashioned. Sadly, nothing lasted long enough for a picture!

My favorite place to eat when I come to Asheville (which is often.) The food choices are always fresh, and the dish ingredients combined in creative ways make for a food experience you don't get regularly. Their salads are always a favorite! Eating local grown ingredients just tastes so dang good. And these folks know how to do it right. Plus wait staff is ALWAYS ON POINT. No photos to post because we usually dive into our dishes before remembering to document the moment. ✌️♥️🌰
Lilian Hu Nguyen
We tried to make a reservation same day but unfortunately the restaurant was all booked (which is a great sign of the popularity!) So we opted for take out. The food overall was really good from salads to soup to medium and entree plates. Flavors were bold and creative, taking comfort favorites and more exotic flavors and mixing the two. The cauliflower vindaloo was a group favorite, as was the schnitzel. The only downside was that the portions were quite small for the price. Perhaps this would have been overcome if we dined in with the ambiance and service to complement the food. However, we ordered a lot of food and was left still hungry. Also do not recommend the quail & waffle to go. No one's fault, but the waffle gets soggy. We would try Chestnut again dine in but would not recommend take out at all.
Armand Ontiveros
My friends and I ate here this past weekend and loved our experience. Originally, the manager was unable to seat us due to them being busy, but asked us if we were alright with sitting outside. They were able to seat our group of 6 and were super attentive. The manager and the server checked on us throughout our meals. We had several filets(excellent), pork loin(delicious) salmon(superfood), cheese board, and the best dessert I’ve ever had-Caramel Apple Tiramisu. I was not a fan of the chess pie. Our group also had several cocktails and they were all well made!
If you’re looking for a great restaurant with a seasonal menu, check out Chestnut! I’m planning on telling all my friends to check out this restaurant when they go to Asheville.

Visited Ashville for the first time, lovey place. Although very busy, the hostess found seating for me and my lady. the bartender was very engaging and food tasted as great as it smelled. I will be returning

I like to break down my reviews by category.
Location (5/5) - Right in the heart of Asheville in a beautifully restored old building. By the looks from the early 1900’s. Parking is on street so come a little early to find a spot.
Ambience (5/5) - Chill, nice lighting, smartly decorated without being over the top. Bathrooms were clean and modern with plenty of supplies.
Bar (5/5) - Very nice selection of custom cocktails that are actually pretty unique with an old fashion feel. The bartenders were fast and skilled.
Service (5/5) - Our server was very welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional. He also toed the line well between attentiveness and over attentive. Honestly, thats an art that is lost these days. He did it well. One of my dings for this restaurant is in this category. The speed of the food service was below average. The amuse, appetizer, and soup were fast. The main course was roughly 40 minutes after the soup course. The dessert course was also slow, arriving about 20 minutes after dinner. Im not sure if that was kitchen or server, but I did not take off a star because the rest of the experience was outstanding.
Food (4/5) - The menu was well constructed, modern, fresh, and creative. Our appetizer the filet small plate was EXCELLENT, absolutely top notch and the highlight of the meal. For soup, we got the gumbo. The gumbo was good, though it was thinner than your traditional gumbo and had a-lot less rice. It was also a bit bland, which i attribute to the watery-ness. I think given some more time to reduce the flavor would be enhanced a bit. Our main course was shrimp and grits. This entree was very good. It had a great flavor to it. The only thing I would change is serving the shrimp tail off as opposed to on as the chef here has decided to do. While I think tail on makes for a better presentation, ultimately shrimp and grits is a hearty meal meant to be eaten with a spoon. I found the removal of my shrimps tails in between bites to be an unnecessary distraction from an otherwise excellent dish. For dessert we had banana pudding. I love the twist this chef has put on it with the addition of soft ginger bread into the pudding. It really put the dessert over the top. Excellent choice.
Overall, even though the food category got a 4, I decided to give the restaurant a 5 because overall the experience was top notch. One of the best restaurants in Asheville. Just thicken up that gumbo and take the tails off the shrimp and you've got a perfect experience from door to door.

First visited Chestnut about 6 years ago for our anniversary dinner. Came back recently with friends and it was just as great as I remember. Brad was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed. The shrimp and grits were delicious and the Kobe burger is drool worthy. Definitely recommend this place.
JAK Kesselring
Delicious food. The Rabbit, pork belly and muscles were perfect for 2 along with delicious drinks and fantastic service by Ely. Fantastic and knowledgeable on the area and the cuisine. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a good priced, filling and delicious experience.
Jeremy Ward
Fantastic upscale food and cocktails, I've never had a bad meal here, and you can often get in without a reservation.
Jack Hill
Nice lunch in Asheville. Fried green tomato BLT was special. I recommend it highly.
Chris Seligman
Our dinner was very delicious and fun. We had a few courses, including an awesome charcuterie board. That was our favorite part, and we definitely recommend starting or ending with meats/cheeses. The wine list had plenty of interesting and delicious wines. We will be back on our next trip up here!

I was able to get a last minute reservation for 2 and came in for dinner. The calamari and kale Caesar was delicious. Wish I could’ve ordered a whole plate of just calamari! Yummmm. We just had some drinks and a snack, but it was very satisfying. :)
Julie
I think this would have been much better had we not done takeout. My food was very tasty but I got the airline chicken and it was so dry! Would have liked a starch with it as well. Ordered the melon salad and that was good.
Eugene Moskalenko
I love this place! Very good food, amazing crew and decent beer selection 🙂
Ben Chambers
Absolutely delicious. Ordered the lobster bisque and the swordfish and could not have been more pressed with the flavours and freshness. The bartender and wait staff went out of their way to tend to us and even paid for our desert for no reason!
Wonderful experience. We will be back next time we're in town!
Jake Hayden
I got the steak and eggs and it was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and fairly portioned. Wife got the chicken and waffles and I tried a few bites of hers and it was also great. The bloody Mary I got was a little sour/bitter for my tastes but the garnish was good. Very happy with this place.
john reinoehl
Incredible food. The service was great also.
Marlene Mayfield
Just finished a delicious meal at the Chestnut restaurant. The menu was very tempting and my friends and I chose various appetizers and several entrees. the fried green tomatoes, and the Korean frog legs were delicious The blue corn grits and shrimp were the best I have ever eaten. Our server Rachel was outstanding
.
Susan Babineck
Fantastic food! Charcuterie board was awesome, especially the pate, mustard, and tomato ham. We all ordered something different- risotto, swordfish, fried oysters, and trout ravioli - and each dish was amazing. Good wine and beer selection and nice service.
Ian Steele
Excellent seasonal food and service. Brilliant in every way. Shrimp and grits were phenomenal.
Denise Farmer
Excellent service at the bar from Jessica!! Great cocktails. Really great charcuterie plate especially the Lusty Munk mustard with the cheese. We both had the 4oz petit filet. Cooked to perfection with lovely garlic mashed. And Excellent service from Megan. Overall our favorite in Asheville. Make a reservation now !!!

Best meal I have had in years, possibly ever. I spent about an hour after the meal attempting to relive it and griping about the fact I can’t eat here more frequently. Food so good it’ll make you mad. Asheville has many great restaurants but of the ones I have been to this is my favorite by far.
Hard to pick a standout dish with everything as good as it was, though the charcuterie board was excellent, and the mushroom strudel blew me away. Can’t miss though everything was delicious
Melissa Saucedo
Amazing birthday dinner with the hubs. We had the lobster bisque, eggplant three ways, the swordfish and cream brûlée. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The bisque was probably the best. You can tell they care about what they are doing. Rachel took fantastic care of us. Made our memorable weekend even better!
Deb Clements
Food was delicious but not hot. Our lobster bisque soup was like warm We mentioned it then our entrees came out cool too. Trout was excellent. Would give it five stars If the food was hot. Nice atmosphere. We would come back.
Teresa McBennett
Excellent food! General Manager came to our table and explained because of the pandemic and the reduced capacity seating, the restaurant would appreciate it if we took no longer than 2 hours for dinner. We totally understood his request and were more than willing to abide by this time limit. We were, however, quite disappointed that it took 1 hour before our main course arrived!

I wanted so much to be able to write a good review of this restaurant, unfortunately I’m just not able to do so. I had reservations at 8:30 pm, we arrived promptly on time, we were immediately told that they were a few minutes behind, trying to clear some tables for our reservations and a couple others at the same time. No biggy, we didn’t mind waiting, about 10 minutes into waiting the super sweet hostess asked us if we would like to sit at the bar and have some drinks, we agreed. Our table ended up not being ready for another 20 minutes and we were not seated until 9 pm. Once seated we had to wait almost another 10 minutes to receive a menu. Once finally being able to put in a appetizer we were able to eat a little something at 9:30 pm (an hour past our reservation time). About 9:40 I received my meal, I had ordered a 8 oz rare steak, everything in the order came out piping hot besides the steak, which wasn’t even close to being “warm”. I let the waitress know and she immediately took care of it and got me another, but at this time we’re border line 10 pm... I really have nothing bad to say about the waitress’s service or the bartenders or even the hostess, I’m mostly extremely disappointed in the management. Not once did he come and speak to us about our reservation not being upheld or my food being sent back. Now I will say from the get go the manager was around, it wasn’t like we never saw him. He was there when we walked in, I saw him when we sat down, I saw him multiple times during which my food had been sent back...I’ve worked in the service industry for a while, anytime I’ve had a customer send back food the manager at least goes and speaks to that table, I just don’t appreciate the way things were handled and I really don’t ever see myself going back.
Alanna Phillips
My fiancé and I went on a Thursday night and there was no wait. The staff was very courteous and professional and made wonderful recommendations. The lobster bisque was AMAZING and had some of the most perfectly cooked duck. Great atmosphere and would definitely go back!
Kathryn Palanza
Jessica the bartender waited on us. I hope you guys don’t ever lose her- she was AMAZING. Approached us quick, she was kind, helpful, funny, and entertaining. We also spoke with 2 other males who were kind as well. One helped with the host stand, called us back when there was availability, and got us seats. I didn’t get their names. The drinks were very good, and Jessica was helpful recommending a good wine. The truffle fries were delicious. We also got the burger that was superb as well. We will be back. We had a wonderful experience!!
Nick Wesselman
Always love the food here. My trout was amazing during our last visit, and the calamari salad blew our minds. One of our favorite spots downtown.
Liz Paiva
Just finished eating the most delicious chicken & waffles I've ever had. Crispy waffle, delicately breaded and moist chicken, topped with sausage gravy and honey. Opted for some syrup and hot sauce on the side for a truly decadent meal. Great brunch spot! The cocktails were also delicious. The staff here was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Cory McDaniel
Awesome food service and atmosphere! The soup of the day and duck were delicious! Our server Samantha was attentive, upbeat and great! Definitely recommend dining here!
Eric Short
Very nice place. Really good food, verging on excellent, at reasonable prices for a destination town.
Schnitzel was very good and the wife really enjoyed her beat salad and petite filet.
Wine was definitely on the high end. The lower prices glass my wife got was $15. I got a autumn Manhattan that was frankly not very good. Way too sweet and really heavy on the fall spices. The second traditional Manhattan I got was spot on, though.
Having a nice dinner and a couple drinks each in a place like Asheville for $125 (before tip) is pretty hard to do, but can definitely be done at Chestnut.
Ruby Brysha
Just an all round awesome visit. They were very good to us on a walk in request. The food was absolutely fantastic. My husband and I shared truffle fries, the pear salad, the leek & mushroom soup, the short rib pappardelle and their chocolate dessert. My husband enjoyed a few different cocktails and I had some wine. It was all so amazingly delicious. We couldn’t decide what was best. Our server, Marshell was so kind and fun. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We just had the one night in Asheville before heading to Charlotte for work and this was the perfect stop. We will be back. Thank you to the entire staff!!!
Ryan Cragun
I ate here while attending a conference. The food was great. I had an amazing risotto and also tried a molasses glazed pork. Both were very good. The pork came with collared greens that were also very good - amazingly sweet. It also came with cheese grits that were just okay.
The ambience was nice. The restaurant was clean and quiet enough to have a pleasant conversation despite being busy. Service was good as well.
It is a bit on the pricey end, but not ridiculous. We spent $100 for three people.
K B
Everyone at my table (3) cleaned our plate and we all woke up the next morning saying how tasty dinner had been.
Nicole Hammock
Visited from out of town. Hands down best meal in Asheville. Beautiful chef designed menu. Every plate was perfect and balanced and beautifully presented. Super cool place and wonderful service staff. 10/10
Ann Rudd
Large group of ladies met dinner. Excellent meal, service, atmosphere!
Tina Sanchez
My favorite place for dinner!! The staff is wonderful and the service is excellent!
Joshua Sales
Amazing food, and a great serving staff. We had a new waitress who was still in the midst of training, but her training server was always within eye shot and made sure that everything went smoothly. I wasn't a huge fan of the cocktail I ordered, but the food itself was fantastic.
Nicolas Perez (Nick)
Great place to eat! A little pricey but very delicious!
Richard
We really enjoyed our meal! My wife loved her stuffed chicken, I thought the Cajun fish with grits and greens were excellent. They source locally so everything is fresh. You can taste the quality in the salads. FYI.. I don't think you need a reservation if you dine at the bar..
Courtney Darder
I believe we went on a busy day. But we was seated outside and was kinda forgotten about a few time. Took forever for our food to arrive and the menu was limited. Their entrees they offered was huge and I was not going to be able to eat that much. So I just ate an appetizer pickled fried green tomatoes which was delicious. My boyfriend enjoyed his food but I ordered a lobster linguini bowl and it wasn't that appealing.
Abigail Bailey
Absolutely phenomenal food and service. I had the seasonal salad with medium well steak and a cup of their honey butternut squash soup. I paired this with their humble honey cocktail (which was also delicious. Gin for the base and not too sweet). It’s too bad the honey butternut squash soup isn’t a regular menu item because I would go back again and again just for that one dish, it was so good. I’ll be back!
Cortney Roberts
The service, food, and the drinks were outstanding! This was our first time visiting this restaurant and we will definitely be back. The petite cut NY strip and jalapeño pineapple martini are a must try.
Candis Watterson
A hard place to get a reservation at, and with good reason! We were able to get a table and from the moment we walked into the door to when we left, the experience was top notch. Winter was our waiter and did a perfect job, her timing with checking in was just right and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. The menu: yet another Asheville place that makes things in house and with great care. The lobster bisque was amazing. I only got a cup and I wish I had ordered a bowl! The small plates were perfectly portioned and the truffle gnocchi (little pillows of fluffy goodness, made in house) was wonderfully flavored. The rest of the orders in our group were delicious as well. The wine was great as well. We took a look at the brunch menu and have vowed to be back soon for that! My thanks to everyone who makes Chestnut amazing!
Jon Meyer
Came for a friend's birthday. Set menu was very good, cocktails were spot on. I had the tuna, which was well cooked but I didn't think the rice noodles were as well flavored as I would like. Dessert was excellent.
Wren Unger
Mmmm. We had the fried green tomatoes, charcuterie, mussels that were huge, strawberry salad with a yummy sweet cream, trout and risotto. Everything was delicious and felt fancy but the atmosphere is not pretentious and our server was great!
Michelle Mercer
INCREDIBLE! Wow! My husband and I decided to give Chestnut a try for our anniversary dinner. They had a Kobe burger and a filet on the menu that were to die for. This was one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. Breanna was a fantastic waitress and I hope we see her again!
Mariora Texier
Had a delicious dinner with friends here. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Hope V
A true dining experience. They don't disappoint and the service is exceptional.
James Van Dyke
Great food, made with many local ingredients. Portion sizes are small/reasonable. Feel free to mix and match the small and medium plates to sample more. Ambience is good and waitstaff was very friendly. Cocktials are worth trying and there's a huge wine list by the glass along with recommended pairings on the menu. Owned by a local and worth trying.
Samantha Okowita
The service was helpful, and genuinely wanted us to enjoy ourselves. Brunch was sensational with quality coffee, pimento deviled eggs, and a banana foster Pop tart!!! We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner( equally delicious and exciting for their options)! It ranges from cozy and casual during the day, and then turns on its swanky by night!! The only thing which could have been better was the cocktail, which was good, but not as exciting as the rest of the meal.
Ryu Akitsuki
The service here was phenomenal!
Taking us in late near closing time, but not rushing us out the door. Food was proportionate, increase the price for increase in food. Desserts are made in house and are expected to exceed great taste with local suppliers.
I will definitely return to try one of their new menu items which they cycle most items out monthly.
Boone Dog
A beautiful restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, sophisticated and romantic. The food is good to alright. We dined there today and were disappointed with our meal. Our Lobster Bisque was lukewarm at best. The flavor of the soup is excellent, but it needs to be hot. The service today was excellent. Although, our waiter (also the bartender today) failed to ask us how our meal was. He had a station by the bar, was making drinks and waiting on tables. He did a nice job Perhaos the restaurant was short staffed today? Overall, we had a good experience, but we were expecting an excellent experience, so we left disappointed.
Michael Breiling
Had a wonderful dinner with my boyfriend here. My trout was cooked perfectly! Highly recommend.
Tavares Johnson (TJ)
Had a business dinner here and great spot for that. The food was so delicious and amazing. I had the shrimp and grits which were phenomenal!! I also had the truffle fries which were hot and full of flavor. Excellent wine list and cool atmosphere. Will definitely return here when I'm back in town.
Mike
Actually just had drinks and appetizers but all great. Should have eaten there.
Cecile NYH
Fabulous experience dining there - from the kids menu to the specials, every single bite was delicious - the decor is warm and inviting and our waiter Woody provided the best service: attentive yet discreet. Definitely a must go!!
A Hall
Fantastic food! Was just breezing through NC and liked the looks of their menu. We started with the green tomatoes - excellent! Then we had the medium plate filet and the NY strip. Beware that when it says "medium", they mean not your normal size portion. The reason for only 4 stars is that the wine by glass was a bit over priced and the service wasn't the best, but the vibe was fantastic and in a great location.
Parker Rink
Service was outstanding, atmosphere was very warm and cozy, and food was amazing!! Citrus salad was perfect for appetizer, and I had the king trumpet ramen for my main. Flavors and textures of the dishes were unreal, really enjoyed this experience and would recommend to anyone dining in Asheville!
Julia Householder
One of my favorite restaurants I’ve ever been to. The fried green tomatoes and scallops medium plate are a must order. The bar is beautiful and drinks are great. Chestnut is doing everything they can to keep patrons safe during COVID, and we really appreciated that. A wonderful business and we will be back. Our waitress, Ely, was a Star!
Megumi Jones
Service was great and food was delicious!! I will go back👍 …
Tom Bruning
Asheville is known for good food and this place is delightful. We shared medium plates and the food was tasty, well prepared and served. Great staff. The octopus was the best, most tender I ever remember having. Well worth the visit.
gene knish
Walked in 8pm had a table in 30min. Actually worth waiting for. Shrimp and grits for me, Hamburger for my wife. We both commented some of the best we ever had. Desert was meh. Service OK. Absolutely would recommend.
Mark Smith
We arrived 10 minutes after closing hours to a friendly smile and greeting by host Jane and Manager Phillip. We were seated and received great service by Jessica and enjoyed a fantastic meal with drinks. We never felt rushed, only pampered, even though we arrived after closing time! Amazing all around experience! Thank you Team Chestnut!
Nora Jones
Lovely experience at Chestnut. My husband raved over the Kobe beef burger and truffle fries. The apple cider sorbet was exceptional as well!
Marcio G.
Great staff, great drink selection and cool atmosphere. Prices are decent and the food is too notch.
Victoria Lennon
Some of the best food I've ever eaten. The portions were no too big and the quality of food was amazing.
Update: My husband and I make a trip to Asheville just for chestnut at least twice a year. Very excited to see it's still amazing and has delicious food and service.
Shelley Bass
Wow!!! We ordered 4 different medium plates one of which was so good we had to order it again. Also excellent service! This was a memorable meal and Chestnut should be Michelin starred! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Salma Pahlobi
This was the first restaurant we stop at in North Carolina. Everything about this restaurant was truly amazing. The minute we walked in, male host ( I cant remember) greeted us right away with very welcoming energy. They gave us small paper menu where you use QR scan which is pretty cool and you can pay that way too! Our waitress was very sweet and helpful too, she had great recommendations. I started off with chill coconut curry soup which is meant to be served cold. I am not soupy person but I wanted to be adventurous since I was in new state and all. It was the best decision ever, I LOVE this soup so much I lick it clean! The taste is coconut curry which taste similar to lentil soup. My entree was Green fried tomatoes with pimento. I lived in the south all my life and heard of fried green tomatoes but never had it what kind of southern would I be if I never had it. The minute I saw I had to try it and it was one of the best dishes in my life! The taste was WOW in my mouth. I know yall want me to describe so the green tomatoes are fried with pimento which gives the crispy texture when you put it all in your mouth the flavor dance on your tongue and there is a very small hint of tangy taste too. However this dish might not be for everyone though because its unique. Another dish you can get it is steak which my cousin got which taste great too because I took bite of it lol. The environment of restaurant is nice and city modern vibe with alots of art work which you can buy too. Overall I loved everything about this restaurant especially the staff being super wonderful.
David Gayhart
My wife and I only had a couple nights in Asheville. One look at the menu and we knew we had to try this place. Everything about this place was great. The staff were friendly and welcoming(shout-out to the bartender for telling us more about the area) The drinks were delicious(my wife recommends the spiced sangria and I liked the mezcal old fashioned). The food was some of the best we've had. The fried quail and waffles was outstanding!
Richard Baggett
Service and atmosphere was fantastic. My son and I had the ribeye and it was just ok, the rest of our party loved their food.
Sarah Mezzacapo
My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon with dinner at Chesnut, and could not have been more happy. The food and drinks were amazing and the staff went above and beyond to give us a great experience. We can’t wait to come back for more truffle fries!
TJ Prieto
Great atmosphere. Great service. Food was just okay, nothing special. The cake was dry and the apple tamale was bland. The fried green tomatoes was very good. The fish was very common. The wine list was too long.
Mike Rotskoff
We had a really nice dinner here. Service was great. Lobster bisque is excellent. Shrimp and grits was spicy and delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly. Carrot cake was mediocre. That's okay - dessert is unnecessary IMHO.
E. O. Pederson
A mixed experience - the main courses were excellent, but the desserts were odd and not very good. The flavored ice creams had only the barest hints of flavor other than vanilla, and the bread pudding was a dry lump of unsweetened bread with little flavor - the worst bread pudding I have ever been served. Service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was not crowded. Overall it is an experience we only partially enjoyed, and we are unlikely to return given the wealth of choices nearby.
Cathy Pinkston
Spending the weekend in Asheville so decided to try this restaurant! Reviews were favorable so we gave it a try. So glad we did! Wonder signature cocktails and a very interesting menu! I had resisting the fall cocktail and really enjoyed it. Very different but tasty. We had lemon gnocchi as an app and the med plate Fillet! It was all fabulous! Hope to return again!
Sue Hamilton
The food here was quite an experience and the service was impeccable!
Cocktails were good a bit on the sweet side, in my opinion.
Starters were a MUST do not skip. We hot lobster bisque, parmesan truffle fries and the charcuterie board. I would order these again and again.
Next we did duck wontons and fried green tomatoes. They are well known for the duck wontons, we thought they were good but would not reorder. The fried green tomatoes were very good.
Entrees, we ordered seafood linguine which was good but heavy (we should have known) and shrimp and grits. Both were great.
Dessert, we shared one, the toffee pudding. It was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the service was out of this world.
Thank you!
Shantell Johnson
Ammmazing experience! Restaurant ambiance was great. Staff was so kind and generous - Samantha was our girl! She was so passionate, knowledgeable and excited. We ate seemingly everything on the menu and couldn’t stop raving. Grab a reservation and go here!
Quincy Yeates
the ambiance was great. staff was excellent. food sub par. very disappointing, pretty inedible actually. had to send stuff back. our waitress felt sorry for us and suggested the mash potatoes. they get a star simply on the strength of those mash potatoes otherwise this would have been a 2 star rating. i don't know, maybe we went on an off night. everyone else around us seemed to be enjoying everything. good luck to you if you decide to go
Jeff Paul
Ely is a gracious server with a lot of knowledge of the menu. We appreciated her amazing service. The food is delicious. The Decero Petite Verdot is sublime. The food is seasonal so I hope you get to enjoy the Lobster Bisque, Winter Citrus Salad, Pickled Fried Green Tomatoes, and Petite Filet. Brad is truly a hands-on manager supporting his staff and it shows in the superb service.
Momma Bear
Ordered a suprise dessert for my husband on valentines day. I know it's a holiday, but if you're going to offer shipping through a local company, be prepared for the business. My order was nearly 2hrs late. We were ready for bed. Also, the cheesecake was very dense. Flavor wasn't the greatest either. Next time, sticking to papas pizza cheese cake. It's large and extremely good. This was my first experience with Chesnut, so I gave 3 stars, because I've not tried their entrées.
Bobbie Bowen
Server a bit slow for our group of six. Never asked if she could refill our wine, also slow on iced tea refills. Never inquired if we were interested in dessert - just brought our checks. Food was very good. I'd have liked wider menu for lunch.
Eli Amirnasr
Wonderful experience. Their service impressed us both times we were there. The manager and staff are super nice and friendly, they will do their best to comfort their customers. In a cold October night, they tried to warm us by handing hot water mugs while while we were waiting outside and when our table able was ready the food was already placed on the table.
Jennifer Matesic
This place was delicious! One of my favorites while visiting Asheville. Great atmosphere for date night or a girls night. Small selection but well thought out menu and I loved the wine paring recommendations.
Jessica Colvin
Amazing place to visit! The food was fantastic, the service was amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area!
Mary Furr
Good things about this restaurant is their location, a straight drive on Biltmore Ave. from I-240. Staff was very friendly, sat us earlier than our reservation, served us in timely manner. They are open at 10 AM for brunch and have an impressive looking menu. They looked very clean. Not so good things about this restaurant is that their outside sign does not stand out as easy to find. My sister, my husband and myself had trouble locating the sign. Parking can be an issue as well. My sister's poached eggs on her Eggs Benedict were firmly well done (she and I expected a runny yolk), the meat was not Canadian bacon and there was very little hollandaise sauce. The waitress had told me they had fried chopped potatoes but I did not know that it was a mixture of sweet potato and white potato. I don't like sweet potatoes. No body noticed that I just left the sweet potatoes on the plate. There was no presentation of the food. It was just plopped on the plate. My sister and I both have noted that it is too bad that the food was not really good because if it had been we would have returned.
JENIFER B
This was our first visit to Chestnut and the service was awesome. Asheli was our server and she was great. The cheese and meat plate was a good appetizer and the wine/beer were good prices for downtown. We had lunch sandwiches which were okay but it was the service that will bring us back! Cannot say enough about how thoughtful and nice everyone was.
Theresa Faughnan
Chestnut was absolutely amazing. We had brocollini cheddar soup and an oyster app to start. We then shared the short rib papparadelle dish and the kale Caesar salad with calamari. We finally finished with a chocolate butter cake that had charred marshmallow ice cream. It was the best meal I’ve ever had and I will be back. Thank you to Woody for his excellent service and professionalism!
Robert Powell
Really great food and we were able to get a reservation. Service was really good as well for dine-in. We had the warm spinach salad as an appetizer and it was great and we were nearly full from that. My wife had the petit filet and I had the pork tenderloin and both were excellent.
Hanna Zamora
We had a pretty goos experience! Started with the lobster bisque soup and it was way too creamy, the lobster in it did not taste great. Then we ordered the lamb lollipops and the shrimp n grits. The meat in both dishes was amazing but the grits weren't great and the green pesto with the lamb was awful.
Our server was great the food came fast and we loved dessert. I am giving it 4 starts because everything was really nice there were just some things that missed the mark.
Stephanie Haynes-Tucker
My girlfriend and I came here for our anniversary and were very happy with our experience. We got the lobster bisque and soup of the day (an autumn squash bisque), fried green tomato stack, fried oysters, and cauliflower steak. The squash soup was very tasty and lacked a meat broth base which was a pleasant surprise for my pescatarian girlfriend. The lobster bisque was surprising at first because it's consistency is not the same as other lobster bisques we have had, but it grew on us with each bite. The fried green tomato stack is super tasty with pimento cheese and lump crab meat. Very good flavor. The fried oysters were definitely the highlight of our meal. THE BEST fried oysters we have ever had! The cauliflower steak was disappointing however. It was bland and definitely didn't stack up to the quality of our other dishes. The server came by and could tell we weren't thrilled about this dish. She got the manager to come and talk to us. He asked us what we didn't like and what they could do better and ultimately ended up comping that entree. That was unnecessary and unexpected but very appreciated. This restaurant certainly strives to take care of it's customers and ensure they have the best experience possible. We will definitely recommend it and we will be back!
Mary Bolling
What an awesome place! The service was fantastic and our dinner and drinks were delicious. I love that they source locally and don't use plastic straws and I loved the "medium plate" option in addition to small plates and entrees. It was nice having a small entree that left room for salad and dessert. We'll be back!
Evan Caillouet
I care with my mother not long before closing. They didn’t seem pushy or try to force us out. My mother got the ravioli and she loved it. I got the shrimp and grits, and I wasn’t particularly impressed, but they offered me another entrée for free. I had eaten enough of the shrimp and grits that I wasn’t particularly hungry for another entrée, but they gave us dessert for free! The bartender is either a manager or the owner and he was super nice about the whole situation and was a great example of perfect customer service. Great staff and mostly good food.
Amber Goff
Holy wow! Amazing food and great service! Both the lobster bisque and the special soup were so creamy and good. The burger was delightful with a side of the brussel sprout slaw that was SO good. I tried some of my friend's fries and they were nice and crisp.
Nick McOwen
Great cocktails and attentive bar staff. The duck wellington and the cauliflower medium plates were exceptional. Our server made an error but it was more than compensated for later in the evening - quality customer care. The only reason it is 4 stars in because some of the wine smelled...off. This could have been due to an older open bottle or something with the glasses were given.... eventually we settled on the Quilt
Dave Mazon
Great dining experience. The mussels were in a sauce I literally wanted to turn the bowl up and drink! I used the bread and my spoon instead. *S* Excellent service - despite being packed, staff stopped by frequently to check on us and fill glasses. I will be back when in area. Thanks!
Elizabeth Rodriguez
LOVE this place. We come here whenever we're in town. The food changes seasonally and is always excellent. Chef is clearly very good though a little bit picky. There are times when substitutions just aren't allowed so if you tend to tweak dishes, this is not the place for you. But if you're willing to be a little adventurous, it's a must try! Also, I love the way their menu is set up with small, medium and large plates so you can get something in between a starter and a huge entree if you're looking for a lighter dinner (so as to leave room for dessert!).
Gary
Friendly and helpful bartender, nice drinks. Didn't eat here, but the menu looked appealing.

One of the best meals I have EVER had. Try the pork chop with chard, apples and peaches, and parsnip augratin. We were there on a Saturday morning. We were seated promptly. Our food was excellent and all of the other dishes we saw looked great. Happily recommend this restaurant. The food is creative and authentic. It's one of my go-to restaurants in Asheville. Originally from Chicago.Very clean and "open". Good location in town. Food good, but no better than Corner Kitchen, Service very good, Beer great !

My favorite spot in downtown Asheville. Food and drinks are incredible and the staff are very attentive and well informed. I had the pleasure of being served by Taylor and Jessica at the bar and they are A1.
If you know how to eat, you won't regret coming! They will set you right.

This place was recommended to us by a couple of people so we decided to try it. For a farm to table is was awesome. The menu changes monthly. We had the rib eye and the strawberry salad. Make a reservation in advance we got lucky and were able to sit in the window which was great for people watching. V

Chestnuts is a perfect place to enjoy a cozy meal in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The food is farm to table made fresh daily. Portions are perfect! I had the medium plate of NC shrimp and grits. The sauce was awesome. Apple pie with homemade ice cream is delicious . Make a reservation if you want a table or booth, otherwise you may have to wait or eat at the full service bar. Reasonably price

My Husband and I went to Chestnut back in February for his birthday. I had called and made reservations and special arrangements for champagne and a nice little booth with an intimate atmosphere. The staff and the manager were absolutely incredible, warm, and truly gave my husband a birthday to remember. Our waitress, though her name escapes me was absolutely fabulous, and I have no real words for how greatful we were for the hospitality. We are from out of town and have both worked in the service and hospitality industry. We WILL be returning again to enjoy a lovely meal and good company at Chestnut.

The portion sizes are perfect. We had a window seat so we were able to people watch while we ate which we love to do. I got the petite filet which was glorious and the green beans were fantastic as well. They have lots of amazing food and it's a very relaxing environment which is found downtown so it's the perfect place to go after a long day. Will definitely be back next time I visit.

Excellent service! We dined two nights in a row and the waitress remembered us and our order from the first night. The food was delicious!

We had a such a great experience at Chestnut, the food was amazing (I had to stop my husband from ordering a SECOND quail and waffles) and the drinks were just as good! The service was great: the hostess had her hands full with the Saturday rush and covid restrictions (btw they’re adhering tho them perfectly and being very safe, two different people wiped down our space, and everyone at least 6 feet apart, all employees are wearing masks and they’re wearing them properly, no noses in sight) and they were so sweet and accommodating, and the bar tender, also named Taylor, made great drinks and answered about 100 questions about Asheville. We will definitely come back on our next visit!

First time here. Interesting mix of foods, but hard to characterize. My wife and I had pork shank, with green beans and mashed sweet potatoes, preceeded by a bowl of lobster bisque, for a reasonable price of $28. The food was very good and large portions as well. Ambiance was enjoyable and service was quite good. All-in-all, a very nice evening.

The service was amazing and the food was even better.

Stopped in today for the first time for my birthday. My girlfriend and I were waited on by Travis, who was exceptionally communicative, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was tasty and the restaurant very clean! The staff really helped one another and everything flowed smoothly.

I picked Chesnut because the kid’s menu looked great for my son( he loved btw) the appetizers were great but my dumplings or Pierogies were not fully cooked, one of them was still very cold at the bottom. I wanted to try dessert but finally skipped it after the dumplings experience. The place is beautiful and the service top notch.

Went there for brunch with family and met my niece and their family had a great meal everyone ordered different items off the menu and no one complained. Only issue was not enough..Server was friendly and they attended our table as needed. I had the burger and enjoyed it. Would recommend if in the area to check it out might call ahead if you have a few people as it's often crowded we made reservations.

Food was exceptional, service was not.
Appetizers were delivered after entrees,
Drinks took more than 1/2 hr, and when delivered were incorrect. Would go back for the food, but try another time, maybe earlier, even when brought up to manager there was not improvement.
Very disappointing as we brought friends telling them how good it was.
Maybe an off night, it happens.

We went for my birthday and both our dishes were unique, full of flavor, and the perfect amount of food. Our server was very helpful in helping me pick a non-dairy dish, and even notified the pastry chef in advance, who offered to try making a coconut milk whipped cream for the strawberry shortcake. It was exciting that the pastry chef wanted to be innovative and try something new, and so I went with it. Although the whipped cream wasn't as fluffy as she'd hoped, it tasted AMAZING. I'm so glad we chose to try Chestnut out for my birthday, and we hope to return in the future.

Enjoyed every part of our meal including desert.
Great people watching at roadside tables on nice days.

Just ate there today with my family. I was just slightly disappointed by everything I tried. My French fries were over fried and soggy. My Rueben was so greasy it seemed like it had been deep fried—and I love fat, but this was just too oily. My sisters burger was tasty, but again, overly oily. The autumn salad had way too much cheese and not enough hazelnuts, and the dressing tasted a little off for me. Even the lobster bisque was just meh— it was fine, but not remarkable. Their back seating area has really bright overhead lights shining down directly onto the table from above, which is also a pet peeve of mine. I believe this causes baldness, and cancer, so I much prefer filtered light. There should be no bare bulbs, now where my eye can’t look without being blinding, in a dining room, and they just miss the mark on that. But it was all decent and edible. Not sure if I would go back. 🤷🏻♂️

Just had another great lunch here at Chestnut restaurant! We don't get to Asheville often but love to come here for lunch when possible. I had Turkey Sliders today and they were great. Hand cut fries could not have been done better and had a scoop of Mocha and Caramel ice cream to top it off. Service was perfect and price was good!

Had dinner here yesterday evening with friends. I ordered the black bean and corn soup for starters, the quail for the main dish and for dessert the after 5 Daily souffle´ which they even offered on the house as it was a special occasion as well as my first time here. The appetizer plate was really nice my favorite was the goat cheese. Our server Brianna was very friendly and helpful with recommendations from the menu. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The lighting is just right it wasn't too loud or crowded but it also was super bowl night. Very neat downtown experience good place to chill with friends. I will definitely come back again.

My husband and I went to Chestnut to celebrate my birthday. The food was AMAZING. We ordered the hand cut fries, fried green tomatoes, ahi tuna and NY strip. Portions were very generous (we got to go boxes) and had absolutely no complaints or critiques on any of it. We did have an issue when we tried to pay with a Visa Gift card I had received from work. Their POS system would only allow us to use $50 of it even though there was $90 on the card. Not really their fault but was a little disappointing. We will definitely go back!

Oh. My. Goodness. We had such a wonderful time, and the food was so scrumptious. Great wine recommendation, great service, delicious everything. Loved it

I visited in October and they had a pumpkin gnocchi on the menu that was SO good! It was a medium plate with a good amount of gnocchi, lots of tasty pumpkin sauce, topped with crunchy pumpkin seeds and pomegranate. I shared that and the, melt in your mouth, petite filet with my husband and it was the perfect amount of food! Would definitely come back to try more seasonal plates!

The brunch was fun and friendly. There were enough choices to keep my 3 boys ages 8-13 happy. And there was enough of a twist on the classics to satisfy a foodie. I had the fried green tomatoes eggs Benedict. The tomatoes were tart and tangy. The doughnuts were delish and buttery. The waffles and pancakes satisfied my boys.

We chose Chestnut for my daughter's birthday dinner and had a fabulous experience from beginning to end. Don't bypass the Truffle Fries, the twist on Fried Green Tomatoes, or some of the other small plates, they are well worth sampling. We like to share and taste each other's choices and all were delicious. The Rabbit Wellington was my personal favorite, what a great way to prepare this dish!
Dietary restrictions were readily addressed by the helpful servers and generously accommodated by Chestnut's chef, which we much appreciated.
The atmosphere is relaxed and even though it was busy - the place was packed on Saturday evening - it didn't feel crowded. It would certainly be advisable to make a reservation at any time, this is a very popular restaurant.
I'd highly recommend this place, we will be back for sure!

We dined at Chestnut last night and had a great meal and service. We opted for apps and medium plates and it was fabulous. Especially loved the charcuterie board. Great wine and drink list.

I adore Chestnut. Corner Kitchen's sister restaurant, you can expect the same level of quality when you go there.
The bar features some highly creative cocktails that fit the season and whatever ingredients are fresh at the moment.
I've gotten some expertly prepared dishes there, from risotto to fish to steak to souffle. All have been wonderful, and I've never been disappointed in the place. The atmosphere is cozy and not overly formal, but still makes you feel comfortable dressing up a bit.

Delicious food, outstanding staff, classic surroundings. A wonderful Asheville dining experience!

We had the filet plate, the seasonal chicken of the woods skillet medium plate, the apple and brie strudel plate, a charcuterie board, lobster bisque, several seasonal cocktails, and two excellent desserts. Samantha M., our server, was phenomenal. Attentive, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu in a way that was frankly mind-boggling. We were extremely impressed. Needs to be a new stop when we're in the Asheville area!

Excellent service and great menu. The trout was perfectly prepared!

Had an appointment for my 90 year old Mom with Dr. Robert L. van Brederode, DPM. He was thorough, patient, & knowledgeable! I would highly recommend his services. We will be returning. Very kind staff here too! Love the Marvel & DC comic decor!
Lisa Fluharty
Excellent!! Food was amazing. Visited for an anniversary and they went above and beyond to make it special. Would visit again when back in the Asheville area.
Susanne Duplantis
Everything from ambiance to service was spot on. The menu is full of creative fresh fare. Had Chestnut Poutine and Reuben for brunch, both were excellent. Corned beef made in house and Benton's Red Eye Gravy on fries was divine!
Mark Moore
Ambience is warm and inviting from the hostess to table and kitchen delivers unpretentious creative quality food. We loved this restaurant. Would definitely go back. Wine selection strong and not overly marked up.

A must visit as the food and facility was excellent. Brianna, Thank you for great service and care especially your focus of my son’s needs food needs. Thank you

Had brunch here. Food was overall good, bacon omette has very strange bacon in it with intense smoky flavor and lots of rubbery fat. Wait staff was excellent, atmosphere was good. Has donut as app, was expensive, but okay. Service seemed slowed by kitchen

Excellent all around. Easily made reservations, and the table was ready when we arrived. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere is great, and the drink selection expansive. The food manages somehow to top everything. Great selection and seasonal specials, with tons of locally sourced meats and veggies. I'd recommend something, but I'd rather just say you won't go wrong.

Good food and good service for a fair price. That's what I experienced on my first visit to Chestnut. Had the pork sliders, a lunch special today. Tasty pork patties on a lightly toasted bun, decorated with some fried onions and a small piece of lettuce, 3 to an order. Despite there being many other restaurants to be explored in Asheville, I would not hesitate to come back here and try a few other items of the menu.
Will Chatham
Never had a bad experience here in the several times I've been there. Nice cocktails, decent bourbon selection. My only qualm is that, as a picky eater, there's no default safe bet, like a burger. Still, the wife loves it, and I've usually been able to find something pretty good.
Jacqueline Junta
Pretty good, all staff was amazing and pleasant. Food was sub par :/ ordered fried green tomatoes and NY strip steak. Meadium well, was way more raw, seasoning tasted heavy on the pepper only. Not impressed with food, but it was semi enjoyable thanks to the staff and atmosphere.
Zubair Khan
Great restaurant with local ingredients served fresh. Service is impeccable and def try their lobster bisque, linguine and of course the caramel apple tiramisu!
Jason Baker
Chestnut has a good selection of non-vegetarian sandwiches, most of which are pretty tasty. Service was pretty spotty on my most recent visit: our table was 'tag-teamed' which meant that we got no service at all for long stretches followed by two different copies of the same bill. The staff were incredibly nice but they need to fix this organizational issue.
