Reviews of Simon & Seafort's Saloon & Grill

This place was very underwhelming to me.
I came at late lunch hour (2pm) on a Wednesday. They weren’t busy yet I waited 15 minutes to get sat while the hostess took phone calls before the customer standing in front of her.
The table was nice and the views were great. I ordered a bowl of chowder which was admittedly delicious but it was also room temperature which was a tad off putting. The bread they served with the soup was delicious.
I had the almond crusted scallops as an entree. They were perfectly cooked but simultaneously very forgettable. There wasn’t much flavor to them and the sauce was very mild; in my opinion not a great pair.
The asparagus medley was good but the potatoes beneath again, very forgettable.
There’s much better places to eat in the city but the view here is among the best.
My server Marylou was a sweetheart - my biggest demerits are for the hostess, lukewarm soup and super okay entree. When you're paying $50 a person for lunch, you should leave with a smile on your face.

We went here for my birthday as I have heard so many times that this is one of the best restaurants in town. Honestly, I was not that impressed. The calamari, bread, crab stuffed halibut, hamburger, and drinks were pretty good. Good, but not great. The prime rib was stringy, bordering on inedible, the crab and artichoke dip was barely warm, the pasta was overcooked, etc. I was really expecting more from this place, especiallyfor the price. The service was good and there was a free piece of cake for my birthday so.. there's that anyway. I would have given 2 stars but the waitress really was nice and tried to make it a special night. I won't be back unless someone else is paying. There are just too many restaurants downtown that have better food and better prices.

I visited with a group of 6 in early June and was very pleased by my group's meal here. I was concerned after reading other negative reviews but am glad we gave it a shot. Plus, we were able to get a gorgeous water view table that did not disappoint!
The dishes were delicious and cooked perfectly. The Warm Brie was delicious and lasted seconds on our table before we devoured it. I ordered the Halibut, which came with rice and seasonal vegetables. The Halibut was cooked perfectly! It was light and flaky, full of flavor, and not fishy at all. The vegetables were a nice complement and balanced the meal well. I ordered the Red Velvet Bread Pudding and was blown away. I'm not a red velvet fan, and this may have made me a convert. It was rich and decadent, with the melting Vanilla ice cream oozing into the dish. I would fly back to Alaska just to have this dessert again.
I was quite pleased with the service! Our server was attentive and flexible as we waited for a final guest in our party who later canceled. She was inviting and answered all our questions thoroughly. She also did not lead us astray in ordering dessert. Overall, it was what I would expect from a higher-end restaurant experience.
The entrance to the restaurant is a bit odd. It feels like you're walking into an office building, but eventually, you arrive at the historic venue. As you enter you're blown away by the sweeping views of the water and a beautiful bar to your right. I would love to come back and grab a drink at the bar while looking out over the water.

Came here for an unplanned dinner when visiting Anchorage. It was crowded and was quoted a long wait for a table, but the bar area was open seating. Luckily a party was leaving and was able to grab a table within a few minutes. Our waiter was Conner and he did a great job. He was friendly, helpful, and very prompt on his service.
While debating on the meal, ordered a few cocktails which came out within 5 minutes. For the appetizers, ordered the Crispy Calamari, Arugula and Fresh Berry Salad, Spinach Salad. These also came out within 10 minutes and they split the orders so they were easier to share. For the meals, ordered the Halibut Cheeks, Pan Seared Halibut, and Crab Stuffed Halibut. These all came out together within about 20 minutes. This was good timing as was enjoying the appetizers and drinks, so didn't feel rushed at all.
The fish were nice, fresh, and thick cuts of meat. All were good, but my favorite was clearly the Halibut Cheeks. It was a special that wasn't on the menu and not found in many restaurants. It had a nice crisp and was very meaty with a scallop-like texture.
Overall, was a good dining experience. Good service and food. If you don't have a reservation, head to the bar area and you'll probably find a table pretty quickly.

Started off with some fresh bread and butter which was amazing. Ordered one of the cocktails which I probably could have had a couple more of they were that good. For dinner I ordered the halibut cheeks with a glass of wine. Both did not disappoint. Finally had the key lime pie which I was told they have been serving for 40 years and it was amazing.

I stopped by recently on a whim. As a local I tend to avoid the busy times here and, for the expense, don't usually choose it as a random dinner option but I was with a friend and it was a nice night so we wanted a place with a view and a nice atmosphere. As always, Simon's delivered on both. It did not deliver on much else. We sat ourselves on the bar side. I know it's open seating but sometimes like to check with the bartender if there's a section I should try or a window seat coming open. It wasn't very busy. Maybe 30% capacity and a few folks bellied up to the bar. I waited patiently, if not awkwardly, for several minutes to get his attention. I would have been more than pleased with just an acknowledgement. A greeting would have been awesome but even some eye contact could have sufficed. After about 10 minutes I decided it wasn't going to happen but it also wasn't going to ruin my night. My friend and I stepped away from the bar and chose a booth away from the window but still with a decent view. From there we were greeted, after several more minutes, by a waitress who brought the menus. We then sat unnoticed and unserved, no water or drinks, for the better part of 45 minutes. Just as we had decided to leave a different waitress rounded the corner and apologized for the wait. Apparently they'd "mixed up the floor plan" and didn't know who was serving us. She was nice and it was almost believable except my friend noticed our original waitress pointing us out a few times and got the vibe she was trying to trade us off to someone else. We probably didn't look like a big ticket that day. Jeans, casual tops, nothing fancy, but we both work in food and beverage and know what to expect, look for, and tolerate and we tip well, probably too well. So when we finally did get a waitress she was extremely apologetic, friendly, and attentive. Her service was the only redeeming part about the rest of the meal. We ordered a few appetizers: artichoke dip, steak bites, coconut shrimp. We could have gotten the sampler but wanted full portions of each. We also hurriedly put in our order for an entree since we had plenty of time to decide: New York steak with potatoes and wedge salad. It took another 30+ minutes to receive our apps. The drinks were solid tho. Everything was shared. The dip was very tasty, came out hot, but the bread was extremely hard. Steak bites were very good, hot and tender, but the bed of rice was cold. We did like the shrimp. Unfortunately the drinks and apps were the highlight of the meal. When the NY steak came it was chewy, tasteless, overdone and disappointing. The potatoes were cold and dry. If I do go back it would def be for the salad. It was simple but well-executed. I could've just had that all night and been happy. For what we paid, (and tipped), the food experience overall was abysmal. For a weekday evening, not even close to full capacity, I expected better. All 3 stars go to the waitress. She really turned the night around by keeping up with the drinks and checking on us regularly. Sadly it'll be a while before I return. Hope they adjust before then.

From the margarita the hit the spot to the seafood pasta. Omg, this place is so good and an amazing atmosphere. It’s good for date nights and happy hour. In the winter time, it’s the best place to eat and catch the sunset if you can get a window table.

We had a very nice lunch here. Our server was very helpful with my dairy allergy. The salmon with saffron rice, carrot-ginger puree, and pistachio pesto was delicious. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, too.
My only suggestion would be to serve local seafood.

The grilled cod was soft, tasty and flaky. Sampler was really delicious. Prime rib was nothing special. The halibut was just alright. The Herb'An Soda mixed drink was refreshing.
