Stumbled onto this gem and so glad that we did! Get the catfish - light, flavorful, not overcooked, not over-breaded. The pork ribs, yams, potato salad, and beans were also standouts. It’s a family owned business and everyone was extremely welcoming and hospitable and treated us like guests in their home. Will be back the next time I’m in Anchorage!

If you ever find yourself in Anchorage do yourself a favor and eat here. They have the absolute best soul food outside of the south. I had the the fried pork chops with red beans & rice and collard greens. It tasted like I was in South Carolina. The sweet tea was excellent. I got some jambalaya and sweet potatoes pie to go. Nice, quite and the people were friendly. The walls are lined with famous people who have eaten here. This place is awesome.

I need to work through more of the menu, but my first meal at Roscoe's was extremely promising. These might be the best fried catfish strips I've ever had; better than some well-known places in the Deep South. The fried okra was perfect, well-seasoned, and crispy with no interior slime. Great sweet tea and decent mac and cheese also, but I'm going to be dreaming about that catfish.

Favorite restaurant in Alaska. At first I didn't believe there was soul food in Alaska but Roscoe's proved me wrong. Don't get me started on the catfish hahaha it makes right in your mouth and the ribs are tender to the T. The Philly cheese is a must have as well and the fries are phenomenal. If I would've known about this spot since 2014 I definitely would be broke and fat, but it'd be worth it. I love Roscoe's yes I do, I hope y'all love Roscoe's as much as I do!!!!

Saw the sign for this place from the window of the Anchorage Museum. Walked over just to see. I was warmly greeted by two ladies. I told them I don't eat fish, so I was having trouble deciding what to get. They talked up the fish and how good it was. Well, they talked me into trying the AK seafood gumbo. And now I guess I eat fish. It was delicious. One of the waitresses even got me a strip of catfish to try since I told her I'd never eaten it on account of always feeling like fish was gross. The catfish was really tasty! Good food and really friendly staff the day I went in. Roscoe even came out to say hi to me. I'd recommend this place.

We were sad to hear that Roscoe’s previous location had a fire but are glad to know they’re closer to home now. The fried pork chops were the best pork chops I’ve ever tasted, the homemade mac and cheese is amazing, the catfish is cooked perfectly, and the cornbread muffin was the perfect addition to the slightly spicy seafood jambalaya. I forgot about the fried okra, which melts in the mouth and was a generous portion, and the red beans and rice were delicious also. On returning home with our meal, were inspired to watch the movie “Summer of Soul” that we’d planned to watch for a few months, and soul food from Roscoe’s was an excellent accompaniment. And thank you so much to Jacqueline for packing all the potentially spillable containers in separate bags!

The food was great. Service was marginal. My favorite item there is the gyro. Delicious! I've also tried the philly cheese steak and it's pretty good as well. Tried to call in my order ahead of time but after letting the phone ring many times, without an answer, I finally drove there to order.

While driving to the state high school basketball tournament, we passed Roscoe's Catfish & Barbeque and I knew in an instant that we had to try it out. The aroma while driving past was tantalizing! Everyone at Roscoe’s was very friendly and accommodating, and the food is authentic and incredible! It is the type of restaurant that incites a desire to order everything on the menu. Our group ordered just about every item available and every single person was stuffed and very satisfied with the delicious food. In addition to the amazing victuals, Roscoe came out and checked on everyone eating three separate times. I will always visit Roscoe's Catfish & Barbeque every time I am in Anchorage.

Was visiting Anchorage and this was down the road from the hotel I was staying at. Had the pulled pork plate with mac & cheese and red beans & rice. The pulled pork was delicious and well-seasoned. Loved the tangy barbecue sauce! The mac and cheese was divine. The server was very friendly, and provided a nice brief history of the place. He even brought a complimentary small sample of peach cobbler. Never been a cobbler fan, but it was great! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the downtown Anchorage area. They had a large selection of specials as well.

Food is AWESOME... We've been missing good bbq and this definitely reminds us of back home. Have gone three times now and it's consistently delicious. It is a bit of a wait, but it is WELL worth the wait. Roscoe's is a top 3 for sure!!

Just ate here for the first time, I will definitely be back. The catfish is good and the shrimp are very good, the collard greens are absolutely wonderful. As somebody who grew up I also have a strong appreciation for their excellent fried okra.

This place is amazing! When they say they serve “soul food” they mean it! The wait was about 20 minutes however it was well worth it. Roscoe is super nice and is always there if you need anything. The hospitality is way better than my home of 12 years (Iowa) and is a place I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for REAL soul food or REAL food in general 💜.

Great food!! I’m from the south so I had been missing food southern cooking. The owner came out and talked with us for a while - very huge guy! I got brisket which was great but he gave me a sample of the catfish and it was the best I ever had! I’ll be going back here a lot.

You know your typical buffalo wings? Bright orange, bit of a kick, thick sauce? These are NOT your typical buffalo wings. These were hands down the best buffalo wings I’ve had to date. You could tell thought and passion went into the sauce. I would venture to say the sauce was house made. It was incredible with much more complex flavors than you typically get. Their pulled pork sandwich was delicious - again, beyond what you’re used to. I highly recommend Roscoe’s.

Best collar greens I've ever had; hands down. Mac n cheese was delicious too. Who would have thought, you could get authentic Soul Food in Anchorage, Alaska. I can't wait to try their other dishes next time.

Had a serve of the pork ribs which were enormous and tasty. Total cost of $18 for the ribs and two sides. We tried the lemonade and sweet tea both were good but the lemonade was ace on a hot day. Plus the server and potential owner was a classic dude with great banter. A top experience I'd go back again.

From the moment you walk through the door you feel like you are home. Roscoe greets you at the door with such warmth and enthusiasm. The food is excellent. We had the pulled pork which was tender, flavorful with a sauce not too sweet or tinny. The seafood gumbo is amazing and save room for the peach cobbler which was awesome. Don't be fooled by the entrance. Walk in, stay, and you will be treated to pure southern hospitality.

I enjoyed my first visit to Roscoes this week, but it won’t be the last. The pork ribs are great, service was excellent and friendly. Roscoe even came into the dining area to greet people; now that Is the action of a man that is confident about his product. Located in downtown area with ample parking for patrons. We went to anchorage on a whim for the weekend. Got stuck and just looking for things to do ended up at the museum . Upon leaving spotted the sign and we decided to try. Opened the door and my wife said no way,, but we went ahead an entered . One of the most delightful events of the visit The owner was sitting at the counter and being from Texas i had to start the bantering of the sign of worlds best barbeque. The owner jumped in and was so much fun, the food was great, the history of the place was entertaining . Stop in for a sample and just stop and look around the place.

Our family stopped in here between bus trips from Anchorage to Seward. Although we weren’t able to eat there then we came back and it was well worth it!! We had all the favorite fixings recommended by the chef himself Roscoe. Ribs, Catfish, and Seafood Gumbo were all amazing and finished it off with home made peach cobbler & ice cream. Definitely recommend it for anyone stopping by or locals to try something new!!

Arrived in Anchorage hungry and found this spot. The staff was awesome!! The food was amazing!! I admit I was skeptic. We had a little of everything, mac and cheese, red beans and rice, fried chicken, oxtail, sweet potato pie and a BANGING Alaskan Jumbalaya! We’ll back again and again.

Love it here. The food is awesome, the price is agreeable and the service is exceptional. Loved the catfish. My sister got the philly cheese steak sandwhich and the bun was hard, so the owner/manager had just come in and made one for her, no charge. Their potato salad is to die for!! It’s been over 2 decades since I’ve been to Roscoe’s and I’m sure that much has changed apart from their hospitality! Roscoe’s will always be a part of my best memory in Alaska!! See my family is military and my dad was on Sea duty in Japan. My dad would be in Japan for a few weeks and it would be 6mo till we would see him again. My Mom always wanting us to see the world and being “family first” decided to pack us four kids up and go on an adventure of a life time to see him via military flight (we flew from California) As a military flights are space available; we kept getting bumped off and finally we had to call it night and hope we got on the next morning. After our second night in the airport my mom booked us a hotel so we could have some comfort. It was sooo late and we were hungry so we walked across to the nearest restaurant and it was Roscoe’s... unfortunately it was so late that the restaurant was closed. Roscoe was closing up shop when he looked at us outside of the restaurant and open the door to invite us in and said “ we’re closed but if you don’t mind I’ll cook you guys up some dinner rather then order from the menu“ We were so excited; my mom exhausted with four crazy children aged 12- 3 and we sat and had the best dinner we could imagine because it felt like home! To this day we talk about that night and how special it was to us and how gracious he was!!! I’m so happy this restaurant is still there! Thank you Roscoe...you have no idea what an impact you made with such a generous gesture...I try and carry that same sentiment in my everyday life!

Fantastic place to grab a bite. Small and cozy, I felt like I was eating right in someone's dining room. It is one of the few places in Anchorage where the price is worth the food. Great Catfish, Collard Greens and Sweet Potato Pie! Worth a visit for sure!

Other people seem to like it.... I'm more a fan of Tennessee, midsouth, southern style cooking. Not sure what this was, but not that {and gyros too) . I like salt but the spare ribs were super salty. The best thing was fries that were breaded with Catfish breading. Tasteless beans... Live and learn.

Okay, let me start this by saying I’m from the dirty south, Atlanta, GA to be exact. So coming to Alaska, I just knew there would be no Soul Food restaurants. Just a bunch of overpriced Seafood spots. Then I saw the name Rosco’s!!! I knew with a name like Rosco you HAD to be from the south somewhere. I went here and ordered the Alaska Seafood Gumbo, the Rib Dinner, Banana Pudding, Mac-n-Cheese, Collard Green, Fried Okra. (Don’t judge me... (I know I ordered a lot of food) The food was absolutely AMAZING!!! Roscoe is an outstanding business owner. He is very personable with all his guest. I will definitely be back before I leave.

Really, really delicious greens. I bought 2 days ahead for New Year's Day dinner with my mother and father. I cooked the black eyed peas, mom made corn bread. Dad was very Happy! Good thing I brought home 2 pints because as I tasted them, suddenly 1/2 pint was gone! As I said, really, really good greens..

Delicious, rich testing Cajun and BBQ, some if the best in town. Had the gumbo and it was fantastic tasting, perfectly spiced. The slow cooked sides to the main dishes are also great. Only complaint was the food came out a little slow.

1st of all the waitress was rude af. There were two of us but she only gave us one menu and threw it on the table. After waiting 10 minutes for her to even give us the menu. Then I told her we were ready to order she seemed annoyed and sighed and begrudgingly took our order even though we were polite she snatched the menu from my daughter once we were done ordering. Never said thank you or or acknowledge us or anything. All this for $18.00 catfish. Hope the food is worth it. Oh and when she brought out the sweet tea the cup looked chewed up and my daughter's lemonade was hella watered down 🍋.

Took my family here tonight and Roscoe's sure did NOT disappoint! We had catfish, collard greens, okra, red beans and rice, gumbo, gyro sandwich, Philly cheese steak sandwich, a burger, and fries. All of us cleared our plates even after being stuffed by the large portions. Service was great and Roscoe came and personally greeted us. I grew up in the south, so I have eaten my share of southern food. Let me tell you.... Roscoe's is sure to deliver more than you could ever imagine possible in Anchorage, Alaska and even gives those southern states a run for their money! Prices were a bit high, but not much off of what you shell out for the typical sane-ole, same-ole plate at every other place. Personally, I think it's worth the price when considering what you get.

Roscoe's delivered the goods when my family wanted great catfish and southern cuisine. Growing up in the south, I've had my share of catfish and such, yet Roscoe's would beat most of those places. We had a Philly cheese steak, a gyro sandwich, 2 catfish plates, collard greens, red beans and rice, okra, and gumbo. Then common denominator.....clean plates! Delicious!!! Roscoe personally greeted us and made us feel very welcomed. The only thing better than the hospitality was the amazing food. If you are looking for great southern comfort food, this is the place to go. Oh and the sweet T and homemade lemonade are highly recommended.

Really good food! The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the last time I went in the service sucked. One girl was clearly on something, I watched her spill a drink on someone, multiple ppl got the wrong order, ppl were givin the wrong credit card receipts and the wait was sooooo long. I felt bad for the other waitress, she was picking up the other girls slack and dealing with all her angry customers. We also had to come back because they forgot to give us our card back, all in the same day. But I understand that sometimes there's bad days. So, if I've got some extra money to throw around, I'd come back. Like i said, the food tastes amazing.

Service was just as awesome as our food. Brought my dad in who lives here and he never even knew Roscoes was around I just flew in googled and bam they popped up. Cowboy fries for an appetizer were so damn good house made well seasoned fries with pulled pork delish flavors and sauces smothered in cheese and that was just to get us started. Ribs had such a great smoke on them and the meat just falls off the bone. Collard greens some of the best I've ever had with their fresh smoked turkey mixed in. I've always had them with bacon but this turkey brought it to a whole new level. Whatever they are doing they are doing right and I wish I lived closer I would be in weekly. A must go to place to eat.

If you are visiting Alaska stop here at Roscoe's!! They have a good variety of food for those "picky" eaters and some awesome classic barbecue. I had the Gyro and it was delicious I will definitely be back so will the rest of my companions. This is a must hit for Anchorage don't let it pass you by. Parking is meh but beyond that it's worth it! Also, the sweet tea they sell I wish they would sell by the jug!! It's also bottomless so enjoy as much as possible with your meal.

Best barbecue in the city for my money! Crappy delicious fried chicken, rich tasty sides (especially the collard greens and Mac and cheese), and their barbecue sauce (used on their ribs, pulled pork and more) is the perfect blend. It's not super spicy or molasses-sweet like most BBQ sauces are, it's a great mix between sweet, spicy, vinegary and salty.

Got ribs, fried chicken, pulled pork dinners with fries, Cole slaw, beans and rice, and potato salad. Each sampled each others plates and everything was good. Always is. Beans and rice are the best I've found in town so far.

IF YOU ARE VEGAN/VEGETARIAN READ THIS! You might not initially think this restaurant would be a great place to go as a vegan/vegetarian (they have a lot of fish and bbq meat options) but it is a secret downtown Anchorage cheep vegan-food hack! They have a big portion of red beans and rice (for only $6!) that is very filling and delicious. You can also add different veggies to this for a very reasonable price. If you are looking for something cheep, veg, and hearty in downtown Anchorage, this restaurant is a great spot.

Little hole in the wall that was the only place opened on sunday, to my surprise one of the best damn experiences I've had in a while. First off I had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was amazing, and I've had authentic philly's. The atmosphere was nice and the service was great. Also the owner Roscoe came out to personally check on everyone which was something I found awesome too. I recommend anyone and everyone to eat here!

Anyone else that knows, me knows that I'm a critic from the moment I walk in to restaurant. Simply because I've been a server for almost 11 years just can't help it. Roscoe's was small and rather relaxing with the R&B music that was playing and the aromas from the kitchen were very satisfying. My husband and I went for chicken originally but the description of the rib caught my eye so I gave them a go I order the beef ribs (don't do it) it was tough with is very little to no meat and covered in sauce destracting from the smoke flavor and with every bite I getting more and more upset. But a god send came along Roscoe himself came and asked me how things were I told him my complaint and right away without another word he fix the problem with a SMILE; brought me a plate of the spare ribs with the sauce on the side. So amazing they were seasoned so well I didn't even need the sauce. What was more happy about was that I did have to walk out of there with a bad taste in mouth considering the food and the owner. But, the server on the other hand oh my she was pleasant but unattentive our glasses went empty several times never check in on us for a small restaurant such as this with 6 or 7 tables this should never of happened. When it came to pay she just didn't offer desert smh that's your job as a server upsell, upsell, and upsell. She didn't even guide us through the menu knowing it was our first time there not offering some of her favorites or anything. The only reason Im giving 5 stars is because of Roscoe and his dedication to his guests. Thanks again Roscoe for your tentiveness and hospitality my husband and I will be back to try your gumbo.

We we're skeptical of the hype about Roscoe's, having moved to Anchorage from the south just a few months ago. Our skepticism was misplaced. Fantastic BBQ pulled pork and thank goodness they put enough onions on the gyros. 10/10 for sure. We will be back.

I went in on a slow day, apparently the owner was out of town because my server was not the friendliest, and not very attentive to the only person in the place. I got the bbq sandwich which had little to no bbq sauce. I'll try it again but I wasnt that impressed by cajun food they had on the menu. eh at best.

A welcome change to Anchorage's cuisine. Soul food, Southern cuisine, whatever you call it, it's delicious. Roscoe himself checks on his tables. Only downside was server forgot to refill our waters all lunch and they don't have beer which would go great with the fish and ribs.

My name is SGT Spirko I’m from Tampa, FL and in the Army I came down to anchorage from Fairbanks TDY for training... I passed by this place and was stuck! I couldn’t believe they had SOUL FOOD in Alaska. I stopped in and I was blown away by the southern hospitality, I miss so dearly and the food selection... I got the Mac and cheese (amazing), red beans and rice (to die for)and the brisket... I almost passed out from the explosion of flavor that took over my taste buds, I had flash backs of being back home having a Georgia style feast my buddies grandma would cook for us.. people cry about price I cry about quality and let me tell you I would have paid more for high quality TRUE soul food.. if you miss the south and want to drift away back to southern cooking you need to stop here right now! I give this place 10 out of 5 because it had me crying of joy I found a new place i love.. sadly I’m only here TDY, but you better believe I’m stopping here everytime i am in town!
