So far I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company (leaking shower fixture + hot water heater install). Prices seem to be below average for Baltimore and quality of work has always been great. That leads to a small problem - they are usually booked up for several days in advance.

I called Honest Abe due to the excellent Google reviews. I had a hole behind the tag at the junction of the pipes and the pressure regulator. They replaced regulator and adjacent pipe. I felt that they were honest and competent, as well as very nice. And the price was right in the middle of the range that I found on the internet. So not cheap, but not more expensive than average. I believe that the total fee including parts and labor was $570. They came within about 2 hours of when I called them. (I knew enough to turn off the water main shutoff valve until a plumber arrived.) I would definitely use them again.

We had been experiencing a flooded basement during huge down pours of rain. We reached out to Honest Abe to install a sump pump. We had experience with Honest Abe before. Nick K. who did work for us before was sent to do the work. His workmanship was excellent. He explained what the work entailed. In addition, he came across an issue with an underground pipe and he addressed it as part of the sump installation. The work was completed on a Thursday and on Saturday we had another huge down pour and the sump pump worked like a charm. The basement stayed dry so, again we are extremely happy with the work from Honest Abe.

The whole experience was phenomenal. I sent an inquiry at 3 am and received a phone call as soon as the office opened. They were able to fit me in same day and showed up within the expected time window. The technician, Nick, was professional and courteous. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and replace the broken sewer ejector pump in the same visit. The cost was within the internet estimates and seemed reasonable. They really saved us and helped us breathe easier going into our holiday weekend. Definitely recommend and will call for all my future plumbing needs.

Once again Honest Abe has come to our rescue. Fast, efficient and affordable service on the replacement of our chimney liner and cap (which we found was discounted as part of our service contract). They were able to put us on their schedule quickly. As usual, they left the worksite cleaner than they found it. Their work crew was courteous, on time, and made sure to close doors on their way in and out (not a small thing on a 90 degree + day). We have used Honest Abe for a variety of plumbing services, so when we found out that they had a chimney service we had them check out our chimney. We had known that there might be issues with the chimney since it is nearly a hundred years old, but their scope revealed falling tiles and bricks which had nearly blocked our hot water heater vent. Potentially dangerous. We are looking forward to more efficient heating and less heat loss this winter due to the new liner and vent. Thanks again Honest Abe.

I bought a new gas dryer and the installers would not install the dryer because the natural gas piping was not up to code. I was in a jam because it was a week and a half before Thanksgiving. Called Honest Abe: they came quickly within a week, knew exactly what needed to be done, did it quickly without issue and at a fair price. The installers then came in a couple of days after that-- no issues.

My parents and I have both had Dave Mack do plumbing repairs for us over the years. As usual, he is very professional, hard working and thoroughly explains what he does to repair the problem. My Dad (who was 99 years old) had said that Dave Mack is the very best plumber that he ever had work in his house. Dave still lived up to that today. His apprentice was also very kind, neat and a hard worker.

My wife and I just purchased a new (older) home that needed some immediate attention to its "drippy" plumbing. I've used Honest Abe before in our previous home and was pleased with their service. So, after contacting a local plumber (located within a mile from our new home) who never bothered to call me back, I contacted Honest Abe. Jay was dispatched to my home within a day. He thoroughly evaluated my concerns, came up with a less costly resolution and provided me with very reasonable estimates to address my issues at a later time. Since then, I have had Honest Abe back to my home to address a backup in our kitchen drain. Nick handled this like a true pro and went as far as to show me "why" this was happening (a previous owner's DIY mistakes) and told me to contact them again when we remodel the kitchen (which will be soon) and they would then replace the old drain and tie it into the wall "correctly". Otherwise, we'd have to remove all of the base cabinetry to correct the problem immediately. I appreciate this type of logic and "honesty". Dave has also since returned to do the work that Jay quoted. He replaced the old "3-stem" bathtub/shower faucets with modern "single handle" faucets in both of our bathrooms. Oval "remodel" plates were used to cover up the outer holes in the tile and they are beautiful...!!! I couldn't be more pleased with the results. With every visit, every service technician was pleasant, courteous, knowledgable and VERY detail oriented. Let's face it, plumbers and electricians are NOT cheap. But when I need one, I want one that is worth every dollar that I spend. With this company, I certainly get that and more. I have more work that will eventually need to be done and I most likely won't bother contacting anyone else. And while you cannot please everyone, they deserve every great review that they get. I'm happy to offer mine...

Honesty is in the name, and their customer service and professionalism back it up! I was in the market for a water-powered backup sump pump and reached out to several plumbers in the local area. Honest Abe was the only company that was honest with me about the plumbing code and the amount of work that would go into installing and maintaining this type of backup system. In the end, after a personal phone call with Abe himself, I decided to scrap plans for a water-powered system and just replace my flooded lead acid battery on my existing batter backup pump with a sealed AGM lead acid battery. Abe even emailed me links to a few smart monitoring devices that I could install to check the status of my pump. I couldn’t be more happy with this solution because it was the cheapest and requires the least amount of maintenance. When a company is willing to be honest enough that they forfeit their own job contract, that’s a company you can trust. I will be returning to Honest Abe for any future plumbing needs.

These guys are LIFE SAVERS! I had originally called a different company to look at my mother-in-law's AC unit. The other company LIED and said the system couldn't be repaired and then tried to charge my mom TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to replace her AC unit! (I won't say the other company's name because that would just let everyone know that FARNEN AND DERMER ARE CROOKS!) Thank the Lord I looked for a second opinion. The Honest Abe guys saved the day! In less than two hours, and for under eight hundred dollars, my mom's house was COLD as ice and her system is now running like new! Today was my first time using Honest Abe Plumbing/home services for some handyman work that I had been needing to get accomplished. From the very beginning, communicating with Honest Abe Plumbing to set up installation of Ring doorbells, was quick and easy. They really worked with me to set a good time that would work with my job schedule to get the job done. They communicated via phone,email and text to make sure everything was clear. Dave was awesome, he actually was able to come earlier to do the job which worked out great. He asked what I needed done and once being shown the Rings and where they were to go, he quoted me a price which was reasonable. He got right to work, and also cleaned up the dust from the drill on the porch. He even went over how to remove the faceplate and the battery. Honest Abe Plumbing and Dave did excellent work and if I need to get any more household projects done, I will definitely be giving them a call back.

These guys were great! I highly recommend using Abe’s service, as we will again the next time a need arises. We converted from an old oil burner to new High Efficiency “on demand” gas hot water system. This unit mounted on our wall, provides hot water to our domestic needs and radiator heat. They removed our old oil “dinosaur “, asbestos abatement, prefabricated the new system at the shop, tied in to our old plumbing, cleaned up and completed the job very quickly. We love it, no problems at all, and gained significant floor space by converting to the new system. I've used Honest Abe before and they're alway responsive and adhere to high quality. Most recent Don came out to replace my old expansion tank on my water heater with a new one. However, before doing the job he advised me that it doesn't make much sense to change the expansion tank without getting a new water heater and that if I'm not replacing the water heater I should hold off. So, I did. Thanks to Don's honesty I saved some money that would have likely been wasted. Service like this is why I trust Honest Abe and why the company lives up to its name. Now, in the future when it's time to replace my water heater I will look th Honest Abe as my first and most likely option.

Honest Abe Plumbing does excellent work. I have a very old house; built in 1920. Lots of galvanized and copper pipes, so plumbing repairs can be quite expensive, and have a been for me in the past. I had been seeing their trucks and thought "what a gimmick with a name like Honest Abe". I had an emergency with my boiler/furnace. I was on my way out of town and thought i would have to cancel my trip because of an expensive repair.. A pipe rumptured and hot water and steam was pouring out. One of the owners, Abe and another nice gentleman, came out, gave me a real reasonable price, fixed it and I was still able to take my trip. He explained the whole job and what they had to do. They were courteous and friendly. They wore masks and properly cleaned up the area when finished.. That was in October. Since then I have used Honest Abe to do a few more jobs.. They have replaced the old plumbing in my bathroom, with new a whole new system and shower, replaced my hot water heater and today they replaced a leaky pipe located in a very difficult area to reach. I asked Abe the owner to give me a quote for the pipe back in October because I knew it had to be replaced. I didn't have a leak then and Christmas was around the corner. He honored the quote today and Eric, an excellent plumber with their company did a fantastic job! They give you a window of time when they will arrive and stick to it. They text and/or email your appointment then call you 30 minutes before arrival to let you know they are on their way and they never leave a mess to clean up! Most of all their prices have been better than their competitors. I highly recommend Honest Abe Plumbing for your heating and plumbing needs!

Home visit for HVAC filter replacement. Nick also inspected the HVAC system and described Honest Abe’s maintenance program, fori which I signed up ($19.99:month by credit card, annual payment was not available). Coverage includes semiannual system inspections including filter replacements. Nick also looked at our older HVAC system and recommended an emergency shutoff device for overflow and leaks from the condensing furnace in our basement, which he installed. The other service Nick performed was cleaning the outside condenser coils on the newer AC. Its effectiveness and efficiency should be positively affected. Almost forgot, Nick made sure no traces of his having to go into our insulated attic to replace the filter were seen. When others have done that task, it was obvious by the bits of insulation dropped on the corridor below. I will rely on Honest Abe for handyman and specialized work on our home. I am cautious with giving ratings until I have accumulated sufficient experiences with a service provider: 4/5.

We called Honest Abe because of a clogged kitchen sink. Between the time I first called and when they were able to send someone out to my condo, I was able to unclog the sink with multiple applications of Drano. I was concerned, though, that there still might be a partial clog and spoke with the technician about possibly snaking out the line. He explained to me that, if clearing the pipes was still actually needed, using air pressure would be better suited than snaking due to the configuration of the drainage pipes in our building. However, after letting the faucet run for quite a while, he determined that no further action was needed. He also explained what to look for in the future to determine whether professional clearing of the pipes would be needed. There was no service charge. We have used Honest Abe a number of times in the past and, should we have the need for plumbing services in the future, would call them again They never tried to up-sell any services. Their prices, while not always the cheapest, have always been fair.

We decided to do a major renovation to add a bathroom to the basement in our house and re-do all the old cast iron and galvanized drain pipes, as they were clogging up. We knew this was going to be a big job, and we wanted a company that we could trust to do it right. We asked around and landed on a handful of companies. Abe came out to give us an estimate, but he took the time to go over the whole project concept, start to finish. He was extremely detail oriented, spent way more time with me than anyone else did, and even pointed out a few things other plumbers missed or neglected to take into account. Once we accepted their proposal, Abe brought out Richard. Richard took even more time talking to me about the project. We went over what Abe and I had discussed and the three of us came up with a good game plan. I would dare say, and this is by no means a slight to Abe, Richard's ability to conceptualize a project like ours was utterly amazing to watch. I decided to do the concrete work myself, to save money, and the project had to happen in stages. Abe and Richard were very accommodating, and said they were ok with that. Richard was the lead on the actual work and I couldn't say enough good things about how he handled everything. It was somewhat amazing to watch his wheels turn if he ran into a problem or when he was planning what to do next. And even when the project threw him curve balls, he was on top of it and remained organized and 100% professional. There was a lot of digging involved once the concrete was broken up, and when I saw the huge mounds of dirt, I was a little concerned. But these guys take pride in what they do. Richard specifically is very particular about how a project is done, and what it looks like afterwards. Once they were done with the underground work, all the dirt went right back where it came from, and they cleaned EVERYTHING up. It looked better than when they started! They were always very careful, drop-clothed everything, wore boot covers if needed and with the COVID-19 stuff, were always masked up and careful. I could not be happier with how this project turned out, the work done by Richard and the guys, and the amount of time and attention Abe and Richard spent talking to me and planning everything out was above and beyond my expectations. I honestly don't think that any other plumber would have done the job they did, taken the time to discuss it in the detail that they did, or been as respectful of someone's house as they were. The combined knowledge they have is astounding. The attention to detail is impeccable. The pride in their work is admirable. The cleanliness is nothing short of amazing. In the end, of the people we spoke with, Honest Abe was not the cheapest. However, and this is the thing to remember when you are hiring anyone to work in your home, you get what you pay for. With the quality of work that these guys did, and the customer relationship they had with me, I think I got more than I paid for. They would explain to me everything that was going on, so I even learned quite a bit too. I will hire these guys again in a heartbeat. There is not a doubt in my mind that the next plumbing project I need to do, which will likely be a hot water heater, they will be my first and likely only call. Abe, Richard, Earl, and all the other guys who's names I didn't catch (especially the poor guy in the mud pit waist deep) My wife and I thank you so much. This is an update to my previous post. I decided to get Honest Abe's service plan and I am so glad I did! It's a great value. We received an excellent discount on an accessory to our heat pump that will prevent mold growth in the moist areas of our vents and the included biannual checkups for our HVAC system are making sure that we will be comfortable in the coming season. I still have to schedule my free plumbing evaluation that comes with the plan. This is why I'm sticking with Honest Abe! MAY 2018 When my HVAC system died, I was glad to find that Honest Abe did Heating and Cooling. I'd used their services for plumbing before and always been pleased with their work and prices. Not only was their estimate the best, they also offered me a range of systems based on my needs and spent a lot of time explaining the pros and cons for each choice and every available manufacturer's rebate. In the end, I got a far better system than I'd been offered elsewhere, for a better price. They installed within a week and my neighbor and I are both enjoying my brand new Lennox systems. It's really quiet, both inside and out. We no longer have to listen to the outside motor that we could hear from the inside. Looking at my dropping electric bill, I think the payback point may even be sooner than estimated. They were very careful with my house too. I have to say, that they left it even better than they found it, I think the name of their company says it all, no hassles, no gimmicks, good products, courteous employees and solid honest work that will keep me coming back.

We were looking for a new HVAC company to service one of our two Lennox heat pumps. After getting a recommendation from one of our neighbors we called Honest Abe and are we glad that we did! They had to make an access panel in a wall for replacing an old non-functional outside faucet; replaced the round screw type shut off valve with a nice flat handled lever; installed a stopper in a bathroom sink; fixed a leaking pipe under a bathroom sink and gave me a stopper for the bathtub that screws in (at no charge). They responded to my requests for an estimate immediately and came the next day. Provided the estimate and as I just sold my home I couldn't approve the access panel without first speaking to the new home owners. I called back a few days later to say we could move forward with the repair list and they came back within the next 48 hours and did all the above listed work. I have been using Honest Abe for several years for various jobs (e.g. replace outdoor water bib, HVAC inspections). Most recently, I had a leaky ventilation pipe in the ceiling repaired. Honest Abe has extremely competent technicians and plumbers, but the most recent repair was priced way too high. $378 to replace a very small section (one foot) of PVC pipe is out of line with standards for this type of repair. Typical repair cost for this is between $175-250. While I had them do the job just to get it done, I will most likely be looking elsewhere for future work.

UPDATE: I am writing to report that Abe -- the owner of Honest Abe Plumbing -- reached out to me directly to discuss the problems that we had on our project and then came out to fix them himself. Abe is truly an honest man and a great business owner. I'm still docking them a star for poorly training/vetting their junior plumbers, but if I was rating the company based solely on Abe, then I'd give them 5 stars. To be fair, I should also dock myself a star or two for not calling the company to give them a chance to rectify the situation before writing my negative review. PREVIOUS REVIEW: This review is based on my second experience with Honest Abe Plumbing. While my first experience was positive, the second could be described as an expensive comedy of errors. We were doing a light remodel on our bathroom (new tiles, toilet and some new fixtures), and I contracted with Honest Abe to come handle the plumbing. On the first visit they were to install a shower diverter, and on the second, they were to install a toilet with built in bidet and a new faucet. First visit seemed to go smoothly, but the tile guys noticed that they had set the diver way too far forward (despite have guide markers built into the plastic sheath protecting the unit). The second visit is where it all fell apart. After resetting the diverter, they 1) took a chunk out of the wainscoting with their pipe wrench, while installing the faucet; 2) scratched the new marble tiles while installing the toilet; 3) installed the bidet toilet incorrectly; 4) didn't tape the feed line correctly so it leaks; and 5) forgot to shut the tub valves before turning on the water main and had water draining through the ceiling into the floor below (through my chandelier). And I got all of this great service for just short of $1000 (this doesn't include the money that I had to pay the tile guy to come back and try and sand out the scratches in the tiles). The Honest Abe plumbers were supposed to come back and install some escutcheons, the shower head and shower handle, but my tile guy said, "don't ever let those guys in your house again." I think he was probably right. On the positive side: the primary plumber couldn't have been nicer, the plumbers showed up when they said they would and they had a transparent bidding process, but I'm afraid all that doesn't offset the shoddy workmanship.

I've used them as a replacement for Atlantic Blue to fix my well pump, switch and well system. They were more expensive by almost 50% BUT, they're highly professional, 5 year parts and labor warranty and no excuses. I spent $2500+ with the other company for a well that broke three times in 1.5 years and they wouldn't stand behind it. Honest Abe Plumbing was there to fix it for my home, my three kids and wife. Professionals are worth the extra cost (if any) - and this company is a testament to it.

Went great. We had 2 on demand tankless water heaters installed about two years ago when our tank was beginning to fail. The plumber I used at the time suggested two units as opposed to one large one as 2 would create, as explained to me a "built in back-up" if one was to go down. As it turns out he did not program the second unit correctly and when the first had a code error the other never kicked on. I tried to call him and he did not return my calls. So, I asked a friend and he highly recommended Honest Abe. It was after normal work hours; however, I received a call back in 15 minutes. He was out within an hour and temporarily reset the first unit. Then had his office call me to schedule me for the next day to figure out the issue(s). I received a call from the office prior to the appointment to confirm the time window. And, then another from the technician to give me a more narrow ETA. Polite and immediately placed on foot booties before entering the house. Diagnosed and fixed the problem. It did take him a little extra time as he had to call the manufacturer to get some programming assistance as it is not a system the regularly sell. It is frustrating that the original installer, who installs this specific unit regularly did not program it correctly. He then explained everything to me in a way I could understand. And, the bill was about half of what I thought it would be. Great service, Great company/people! Highly Recommend!

We had Honest Abe come out to give us an estimate on a Sewer back up problem. They came out for free to inspect & advise. It was necessary for them to come a second time to put a camera down the toilet in our basement to see where the sewage line was laid under the floor to the toilet. I thought that $395 was steep for the camera examination, but they assured us if they did the work they would credit us 1/2 for the camera charge. They kept their word and on top of that accepted their $100 coupon for work performed over $650. It was a 2 man job requiring them to jack hammer up the cement floor above the sewage pipe in order to install the back wash valve. All the work was very professional and thy cleaned up when they were finished. I would highly recommend them to our family and friends. The total cost of the job before the discounts was $1225 for 4 hours of work. After the deductions it was $933. That include all labor and parts. Other plumbers wanted $2000+ for the same work.

Excellent! We called regarding a drain fly infestation. Service desk scheduled a technician to come out the next morning. Due to some non-standard plumbing configurations, the first technician was hesitant to address the issue and instead called for assistance. We had a toilet that came with the house back in 2004. The inner parts were so old they rusted and broke. We called Honest Abe Plumbing as they're the only plumber we have ever used, we trust them very much, and they're extremely reasonable. They replaced our toilet, replaced the valve by the toilet, and replaced our water main valve in the basement. They had to bust a bit of tile and add piping to get to the main in our unused basement bathroom. This was all done for around $800 in less than 2 hours!! We've used them for over 5 years. They're the only plumber we'll use as long as we're in Maryland!!

It required the plumber to cut a opening in my existing tub and replace the controls and cut out an opening in the side panel to replace some pipe and fittings. I was impressed with the plumber's ability to quickly find and repair the leak. During the plumber's visit, and while repairing my pipe leak, I also discovered a couple areas where pipe corrosion had developed, and I paid extra to have the plumber cut-out and repair the corrosive areas of my pipes. It was a bit pricy for the work, but all work was completed thoroughly, and the plumber was very professional!

The crew came quickly and on time. They draped my stairway and protected my carpets carefully and put coverings on their shoes from the moment they walked in the door. What started as a seemingly simple project became a lengthy one as they realized that the backup originated close to where the house clean out joined the city sewer. Despite the extra hours, there were no add-ons to the original quoted price (which has happened in the past with other plumbers.) They left my bathroom, shower and floors cleaner than when they found them and the clog (a huge nightmare of excrement, roots and whatever) was cleared so my drains now run quickly without backup. I have used their service now for years and have found that Honest Abe lives up to his name every time.

I contacted Honest Abe whos contact info and reviews I saw in a Carroll County catalog of the best homeowner contractors. I contacted them partly because of their name and because of the positive reviews in the catalog. I had made my mind up that the problem was a fan motor. When the technician looked at it he told it was a much cheaper part. He replaced it and the AC worked like a charm. If they werent so "Honest" he could have replaced the motor anyway, charged me more and I would have never known the difference. After diagnosis he also gave me an estimate off the top of his head. It turned out to be more than that but he only charged me the estimated amount. Honest Abe is now my contractor of choice.

Honest Abe picked it up (a bit out of their way), brought it to my home, and installed it in under two hours. The plumber Home Depot uses wasn't on Angie'slist, wasn't affiliated with Better Business Bureau, thus I was not comfortable with them installing our heater. Honest Abe was a little more than others (not much; approximately $100), but their quality can not be surpassed. Relax your search is over. Hire them. You won't be disappointed.

They couldn't figure out the problem, said there was none.There was a problem, but they didn't charge us so we will use them again since they were honest. We used them to replace our HVAC. Our previous system was 19 years old. They fixed it once, but we knew it was on its last legs. So we got a quote for a new HVAC system through them. They were the most reasonable. There were issues with the installation, but the guys were nice. It wasn't their fault, mostly lennox. Lennox gave them the wrong parts so they had to come back and reinstall the right parts. After having to come back a second day, we finally got it squared away. I'm glad we went with them because it's so nice to have a working HVAC! Also, everyone who works there is very nice!
