Reviews of World Gym

great, plentiful equipment and great atmosphere, but the prices and hours are pretty bad, and keep getting worse. They close at 9:00 on weekdays and 5:00 on weekends, and that weekend closing time is really bad for night owls like me. They open at 7:00 on weekends and 6:00 on weekdays, which wasn't a problem for me but might be for you if you're an early bird. It's $50 a month for just a basic membership, and $80 a month for the advanced membership, which seems like a lot.

A few machines and benches definitely need to be re-upholstered but still usable.
Any repairs planned?
Hopefully the leaking roof is the building owner's responsibility. Never seen it leak this much before. The men's locker room roof leak has been there since forever.
Very glad to see the staff is keeping the place clean.
Aside from that- love the location of the gym and the people that work and workout here.

The gym is fine, but the dude at the front desk was disrespectful. I will give it another go and report back. It is an otherwise solid facility. Squat racks, deadlifting platform, and plenty of machines.

To start, this gym has a wide variety of equipment, both newer and older. It also has a small selection of protein snacks and drinks. The women’s locker room was awesome as well, can’t speak for men’s. Hair station, showers, lockers. The machines are great, but the free weight area is dirty and the pile of attachments for cables is unorganized and grimy. I don’t like being in a gym that makes me feel dirty just because I used the equipment available to me. On top of that, barely anyone wipes anything down. The gym could have some awesome potential to be a great place to workout if the staff cared more about keeping up with organizing and cleaning the facility. I run both the front desk and clean the entire gym where I’m from, and despite there being one person dedicated to the desk, and one guy walking around bored “cleaning”, my hometown gym is in much better condition. If you set a precedent to keep the space clean as staff and management by exhibiting the behaviors yourself, then the people who go will start to care more about the place too. The front desk lady was very kind, and I feel bad writing this, but I just don’t know if I’d come back. It’s a great gym otherwise.

BIG shout out to World Gym for their kindness and generosity! Thanks to World Gym, my coworkers and I have been able to train together, offering a free membership as active duty military members. The front desk staff is always friendly, the space is clean, and I absolutely love the natural light from all their large windows. It’s also nice that they have some bars and drinks available to purchase if I ever forget my nutrition. Thank you again for enabling us to maintain and improve our fitness!

I thought the gym had good equipment and it was clean. It has a good layout and plenty of room and mirrors to accommodate a crowded gym. I saw no broken equipment and most of it appeared new. I thought the lockers were big compaired to most gyms and the locker room was clean. They have a sauna and steam room which is a huge plus.
My main complaint was the staff, if not for the front desk person I would have given it 5 stars.
I've never seen someone who obviously hated their job more than the girl at the front desk. She had a permanent frown on her face and I honestly felt like an inconvenience for interrupting her standing at the empty front desk. I arrived at around 3pm and after paying for a day pass I was informed they were closing at 5. Two hours is plenty of time to get a workout in, but I think I should have been told before paying.

Been coming to World Gym about 3 months now. Great equipment, lots of space, friendly staff, good hours, and the vibe feels like a do-work-space but also welcoming. My only complaint is the steam sauna that seems permanently out of service, and the dry sauna that just doesn't get that hot. These were both determining factors for me signing on, and it's super disappointing. I think these would set World Gym a step above other options in Portland.

PROS & CONS: I appreciate the cleanliness of the gym, the machine and free weight options, as well as the friendly staff. During the times I go (generally off-peak), World Gym is not overly crowded.
However, I have five negative comments with regard to malfunctioning/broken equipment, lack of management response to ongoing problems, temperature of the women's dressing room, and the loud volume of the music. If a piece of equipment is not functioning properly, when you talk to management or staff, they will listen but sometimes they simply do nothing to solve the issue, even after being kindly reminded several times and allowed months or years to fix the problem. There is one piece of equipment widely used by members that has been broken for about three years. The fix is simple and inexpensive, and management is aware of it but does nothing. The women's dressing room is unacceptably cool most of the year. Management has heard about this problem from numerous members over the years but does nothing. Lastly, World Gym plays typically plays poor quality music LOUDLY (esp. loud in the women's locker room). If you have the misfortune to be working out near the cycling room, which BLARES its music with the door open, you will be exposed to two forms of loud music. For an establishment devoted to health, they should be aware that exposure this volume of music, especially for any length of time, does irreparable damage to hearing. I recommend they hire a local audiologist or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for a one-time visit to do an evaluation. I recommend people wear hearing protection. (Other issues with World Gym are minor, and I accept or overlook them because the membership rates are low and, therefore, some compromises are to be expected.)

Positives Include: Great Parking, Great Price, Good Location.
Negatives Include: Very Dirty Locker Room, Gross Moldy Shower, Broken Sauna & Steam Room, Sweaty Equipment, Lazy Staff.
Overall: You get what you pay for at Worlds Gym.

I have to say that World Gym is one of the better gyms that I've belonged to. World Gym is huge. They have a good amount of benches and squat racks. Plenty of Cardio equipment and more than enough free weights. Join this gym, it's awesome.
Michael McKinnon
Decent gym for the price. Good assortment of equipment. Usually enough lifting stations. Wifi.
My only complaint is that it is too hot and humid. There aren't any fans besides a few overhead. I can't do cardio without having a heat stroke.

New Mgmt. Is fantastic. Had issues with Mgmt in the past but the new Mgmt is great, two thumbs up. The gym felt safe, everyone was wearing masks and distanced. Everything was very clean.
Sam Potter
Decent price and they have most of what you want for powerlifting but they only have one oly platform with cheap bumber plates. Would have liked to see 3 platforms with higher quality bars and weights.
Jack Hammer
Good gym.. Not great, definitely a weightlifting gym, they actually have dumbells that go over 80lbs.. Some douchey roid heads.. The trainers are mediocre and unimaginative.. Definitely better than the planet fitness down the street.
Jesse Laughlin
Ok gym. Cleanliness is lacking big time. Dust bunnies under all the equipment
Eli CR
It has everything you need! Oh it doesn't have a pool? The YMCA is just around the corner. No excuses.

Great gym and staff but not enough plates. Constantly looking around for plates while I could be working out.
