Great gym! The place is always clean, tons of equipment and free weights with spares for when there's a crowd. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Janna will help you understand where you are at mobility and fitness wise, and set you up with a trainer if you'd like. I worked with Matt for a few sessions and he designed a program that fits my needs and schedule. Fantastic experience would highly recommend for anyone looking to better themselves in the St Johns area!

The Truth

Recently Relocated to NE Portland. I Have been a member of StAfford Hills Club in Tualatin for the last 12 years and absolutely loved it , but is not realistic to be 30/60 minutes away depending on Traffic. Reluctantly I looked at local gyms in NE and finally found a fit . West Coast Fitness has everything I need . It also has a “ Gritty” outdoor gym that is awesome. Inside is super super clean , Including the locker Rooms . Has very nice Sauna and Steam Room . The staff is very friendly, David helped me and it was seamless . I’m very excited to go to this club regularly. I think it’s a Great Value . It’s not Planet Fitness, or LA or 24 hour Inexpensive but it’s definitely worth what they charge .

I have visited this gym a half dozen times and I'm always happy I made time to do so. The staff and instructors are so friendly and great at what they do. I especially enjoy the Hot Yoga and Barre classes with Elisa. Elisa's expertise in anatomy and physiology shows and she makes sure everyone in her class feels comfortable while giving options for a more challenging class. The classes are always fun and her upbeat attitude and Playlist push you to keep going.

Love this gym. Staff members are super friendly. There’s an outdoor gym section that is hardly ever used so it feels like your own private gym- fresh air and all. Highly recommend.

This is the best gym I’ve ever been a member of. They have tons of equipment and a lot of different areas for various activities (stretching, yoga, cycling, etc). The staff is friendly and the overall feeling is great. I consider it a staple of the neighborhood and I’ll be a member as long as I live here.

I have been a member and fan for lord only knows how many years at this point. I will be honest I think if you compare this gym to big-box gyms you will find yourself disappointed and lacking. But this is what makes it special and my go-to. It is small community and family. The staff knows you by name and makes you feel appreciated every time you walk in. They have worked hard through the COVID crisis to help members any way they can and to make the gym a safe place for people to come. The equipment is always clean and in great shape. The trainers are always willing to answer questions and help you build a plan to help you succeed. Its owned by members of the St. Johns community and they are invested in trying to make things better. Remember this gym was in a galxay long ago a furniture store, the layout an be a little off putting but they make the best use of the space (and social distancing). Most importantly they CARE. Which is something other gyms just dont seem to get (unless you are in another smaller gym)

My boyfriend and I have been members at this gym for over a year. This gym is great! They have some great yoga and spin classes and a really nice lifting area for members who want to pay a little more. A basic membership is a decent price in comparison to 24 hr fitness and provides a good class selection and access to a majority of the gym. Highly recommend getting a membership here.

I highly recommend West Coast Fitness. I’ve lived in the areas for a few years but recently joined a couple of months ago to continue rehabbing a bad knee. I was apprehensive prior to joining, assuming it would be like any other box gym I’ve been to. Not so! The staff are friendly and motivated and happy to see you! Devon teaching U Jam is an absolute rockstar. She made that class such a fun experience. Her energy is contagious! Stephanie Singer’s morning hot yoga is delicious! And experience that is SO worth the early rise. I took a spin class with Jan this morning - what a workout! She got the bike all set up for me and kept the whole class going all hour. She is super fun but you also know she means business!! This gym has far exceeded any of my expectations. The facility is clean and fair priced for all the offerings. If you haven’t already met Janna, go see her for your In Body scan and consult. Hanging out with Janna is like meeting a good friend before you even know her! She is so lovely and it’s clear that she really enjoys what she does.

It's a decent gym. I like supporting local business, and I'm a resident in St. John's so it was convenient for me to join this gym. The quality equipment is in a special access room that comes at a higher monthly rate, which is pretty silly. They have everything you need for strength and conditioning, and at $42 a month, thats not bad. Edit: The equipment I was complaining about has received repair. Thank you! Pros: Very quiet in the morning / Plenty of equipment / local / spacious / Nice staff Cons: odd layout / cost extra for the updated equipment

I appreciate having the drop-in fee to use the gym or go to one of the group fitness classes. This option is so amazing since I don't live nearby. If you're looking for something for a flexible schedule, I would recommend checking out West Coast Fitness and taking advantage of the drop-in fee right now.

I have been a member of West Coast Fitness for almost a year. There is always space on both weight and aerobic equipment to work out. There are lots of classes to choose from as well. Staff is very friendly. They also have trainers on staff. If you are looking for one, I would highly recommend Jacob Piho. He is always prepared with a plan for the session but is willing to adapt it if needed, sometimes creating a new plan for the day. I am working with him currently, and he is doing an excellent job of addressing muscle imbalances in a way that carries is over into my other activities. He's a really knowledgeable trainer. Great gym. Great trainer.

I’ve been going to West Coast Fitness for over a year now and totally love this gym. Not only are staff and the larger community friendly but the gym offers a great range of classes I’ve found interesting and enjoyable to participate in. What really separates this gym from others I’ve belonged to though is the wide range of equipment I don’t expect to find at a standard gym, including a TreadWall (think tread mill meets climbing wall, as the name implies), a Jacob’s Ladder, and various CrossFit equipment as well as a massage bed and chair. I highly recommend West Coast Fitness!

They don’t have a great selection of contracts and it can be a bit pricey compared to other gyms but the facility is nice and the customer service is amazing, it helps make up for those short comings. I would like to recognize Austin Wack for being a funny awesome guy. Very kind gentle man, with wonderful advice. Other staff members are very helpful also

I have a membership to the barbell area of the gym, and the equipment is excellent. I can train for both powerlifting and conditioning easily and safely, and in the two years I've been going regularly, I've never had to wait to use a squat rack, which is pretty much unheard of for a gym so reasonably priced. If you are looking for a place to lift in St. John's, I think this is it.

It's a great gym. The cardio machines can fill up quick during peak hours, and there isn't a pool. Rarely did I have to wait for a weight machine. The rooms reserved for classes are always open, so it's easy to find a nice relaxing place to stretch or do yoga. The showers always felt clean enough for me. I would still be a member if I lived closer.

Love having a local gym that I can walk to. They have all the free weights, equipment and classes to satisfy anyone. It's also not overly busy, especially when you go during non peak hours. I had a 24 hour fitness membership for 15 years and gave it up 5 years ago for West Coast and have never regretted it.

Increadably wide range of useful equipment, including a continuous climbing wall which is fun. Extras like relaxation bed, sauna and steam are great. And the all round condition of the facility is good. My only complaint would be that the change rooms are very old and dated, with only three showers and very few lockers available. Bring your own lock for the lockers.

West Coast Fitness has a wide variety of friendly classes for all ability levels and needs, with good instructors and good equipment. There is plenty of space for both weights and aerobic activity. For that little bit of extra help, they have excellent trainers. I highly recommend Jacob Piho for his patience and his attention and evaluation of individual needs. His experience, knowledge and detailed planning of exercises for strengthening my weaknesses is making a positive notable difference in my balance, strength and posture. At age 75, that is important.

My roommate dragged me here a year and a half ago and now I find West Coast Fitness in my normal routine. My favorite part about the gym is the local feel, low stress environment, and wide range of equipment. It’s a great place to lose some stress and stay in shape at the same time!

Easy to find a time that is on the quiet side for a gym. Owners and staff are very friendly and actually listen to your feedback. A great alternative to the big bustling gyms designed for the 20 somethings. As a Silver and Fit member, I am very happy. I think you can try it for free.

I just started going to West Coast Fitness about a month ago and I love it. The people working there are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I also love their class offerings and different workout areas. I mainly signed up for a membership because I wanted to start training with a personal trainer. My personal trainer is Rylan and he's new. I highly recommend Rylan because he has such a great attitude and he's so knowledgeable, attentive, and fun. I really needed someone with a positive, encouraging and motivational attitude to get me to work out and Rylan is perfect for that. If anyone is interested in a great trainer there, Rylan is your guy!

This place is a true gym like back in the days when boxing was a major hit after Tyson and them. The gym is by far better than 24hr fitness and surpasses LA fitness. the gym is outstanding. there are so many different training rooms it’s amazing. there are tv’s for your convenience in the areas like for walking and running or biking ect. there is a caged area for your bigger lifting kinda people. there is also a boxing gym and so much more for your every need. there is also a pro. massage therapist and rehabilitation center ect. Hand the hydro massage table with some huge pressures compared to BRFitness or the BR body renew or what ever there calling themselves now.

I love this gym, However I am disappointed that they are not requiring vaccinations , for their instructors or their members. It is time for organizations and businesses to reward people for doing the right thing instead of catering to people who refuse to pay attention to the science.

My wife and I joined WCF mid year and have thoroughly enjoyed the facility. After years off from lifting weights, and many injuries and scar tissue/ joint and pain, my journey began. Having an understanding of just heavy compound exercises under my belt from 20 years prior, I felt something else needed to change. Everytime I worked out, I'd have old injuries flair up. I started working with trainer Jacob Piho and immediately I knew what I had been lacking for my fitness goals, a balanced approach! He has greatly helped me find a sustainable methodology in nutrition, flexibility, core, and a nuanced attention to detail in helping correct what I believed was already good form. He knows his stuff folks! I can't recommend highly enough, Jacob and the always friendly staff at West Coast Fitness. I recieved the kick start so desperately needed, and an encouraging mental perspective to a balanced approach to training and nutrition. A true professional in a great professional environment. Jacob, truly, THANK YOU!!

West Coast Fitness is a quality gym located in the St. John's area of Portland. They have a nice variety of equipment that is well maintained. Jacob Piho is an amazing personal trainer and fitness instructor. He teaches the Fat Burnin' Circuit class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Because I was totally impressed by my improved core body strength, agility and coordination from the class, I told my husband and signed him up for 5 training sessions with Jacob. My husband had severe back and hip pain for 3 months and had been referred to a neurosurgeon to schedule 3rd back surgery. After 3 training sessions, my husband's pain went away and he was thrilled to able to cancel his surgery. We still met with the neurosurgeon who was happy the pain went away. He said that the back surgery treats the pain, not the back. This can lead to more surgery down the road because it removes parts of the vertebrae that support the back. These days, my husband is back to playing tennis and riding his bike to work. He makes sure to do the exercises that Jacob taught him because that's what keeps his back and hip muscles strong and pain-free. Jacob - we can't say enough good things about you! You helped us maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I appreciate the sauna and steam room as well as the ability to shower. I didn't get that from my last neighborhood gym. I haven't had to wait on any equipment or area that I wanted to visit and have started many good habits here.

I like the gym, it's near my house and an easy walk. Their power lifting room is the reason I initially chose it. However, that being said, I would have given 5 stars if they'd fix their internet. Nothing is more frustrating than being in the middle of a good workout and then having your music buffer constantly. It's horrible. I've brought my complaints to the desk multiple times with no response. I would actually pay more per month for consistent internet speed! Please fix it! *Even writing this review, your internet is slowing me down. And you cant use 4g at most places in the building as there's 1 bar... Edit: I'm updating to 5 star. The internet problem has been fixed as far as I know. I now have perfect connection anywhere in the building. Great gym!

For me the best part of this gym is the sauna and steam room in the dressing room. In addition, there are several good sets of equipment and space to stretch and move. Treadmills, ellipticals, and there are classes most days open to the public.

A person gave me a friendly, helpful tour when I stopped by for a look. (I am from Atlanta and staying here with family for a week). The gym is well appointed and has plenty of good equipment. I took a class called "Fit and Fast" (The second one I was going to take was called Boot Camp but it turned out to be crossfit's half-murph. I do Crossfit back home and was hoping for a regular boot camp kind of class, so I passed.) I am a southerner and so that's probably why I find the place frustrating. No one at the desk tells you where classes are (how would I know that bootcamp is in the cage and not where fit and fast is held?). And it was almost as if the instructor was afraid to make eye contact or perhaps even say "Are you a guest? Welcome!" See? I am southern. It's not required, perhaps, to say that but it would be a nice touch. So overall I'd give it a meh.
