Life-changing, super-welcoming, joyful fitness land. Chad, Max, Chris, Rachel, Mallory, Wheels, Ting, Sam ... across the board these trainers/class leaders are outstanding. Attentive, supportive, upbeat, and informed! Body, gender, age, fitness-level diversity are all actively welcomed here. Customer service here is also 5 stars - Membership guru Craig is terrific. They never up-sell you. In fact, they get to know you and your needs and help you find the most efficient membership or package to suit your needs. I've been coming to Homebody classes online for 1.5 years and I cannot recommend it more! The Mark Fisher Fitness team has a magical recipe figured out to create community online and keep you coming back for more.

I have been a member here for over ten years. MFF has always provided consistently high quality and fun classes led by knowledgeable and caring fitness professionals. I also love that as I have aged, and my life and fitness goals have evolved, that has not meant needing to find a new place to work out. I love that you can be in class with a 20-something professional dancer on the mat to your left and a 60-year-old business owner on the mat to your right, and the class is equally appropriate, challenging, and enjoyable for both. Plus, they will be cheering each other on! It is a truly inclusive and welcoming environment, and I'm so thankful to have found it!

I was completely sedentary when I started coming to MFF. Three years later, my body feels SO good. This gym is a safe space to learn. Achievements are celebrated, and the staff and trainers genuinely care about members. Plus, it is the most fun you can have working out, and it is easy to feel like a part of the community. Mark Fisher Fitness is a gem nestled in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. In non-pandemic times, their in-person classes are incredible workouts and foster an amazing sense of community. They've pivoted to an online format for classes (Homebody), which has truly been a lifeline over the past year. Some of the best coaching of my life has happened there during semi-private training sessions, which they're still doing (SAFELY)! I would not be the person I am today without this gym, and how many people can say that about their gym?

The most fun I've ever had at the gym. MMF offers a holistic and idiosyncratic approach to fitness that incorporates mental, physical and dietary health and wraps it all up in a big pink furry box with unicorn wrapping paper and glitter kettlebell bows. Each trainer is as uniquely spectacular as the overall aesthetic--which is equal parts queer, zany and theatrical. Love this place.

After years of being a creeper of this spot from my friends who were Ninjas, I finally became a Ninja myself in Jan 2021 through Homebody. For 6 months, those online live workouts were such a lifeline for me - giving me a sense of routine and community during a really tough time of living alone in a studio apt during COVID. When the Clubhouse reopened, I was so excited to meet the coaches in person. As a queer person, I’ve always had a complicated relationship with fitness - and I realized what I loved the most about MFF was how affirming it was. It was the first time I felt comfortable to work out - that’s the best gift MFF gave me. Everyone from the coaches, to Ninjas, to the staff — they will never know just how much they helped me and what they helped me through. In my relatively short time at MFF, I did Homebody, Unicorn Accountability, Small Group Private Trainings, and even a round of Snatched I (which by the way is a must and a rite of passage, albeit a tad bit pricey). I relocated to San Diego and unfortunately had to part ways with MFF, but I’m lowkey emosh writing this review. I’m so happy to have been part of the Ninja Fam, and can’t recommend it enough to anyone considering a jump start or a jump back in to a fitness journey.

Could MFF be any better? I don't think so! They are a merry band of endearingly weird, knowledge loving, and strangely attractive humans who will deliver the workout goods to you in ways that you didn't know you needed. You'll get results, have a blast in the process, and be be surrounded by people who genuinely care about you and your goals.

I first signed up with Mark Fisher Fitness when a friend raved about their HomeBody workouts on Zoom in summer 2020. I gave them a try and found they were so great that I was actually working out more than I had been pre-pandemic at a big impersonal chain gym in the city. Now that MFF has reopened, I’ve added in-person group training twice a week while continuing HomeBody. The group training provides an affordable way to learn about lifting weights — I truly learned WAY more in my first session than in ten (more expensive!) 1-on-1 personal training sessions at that big chain gym a few years ago. And it’s way more fun. Every single instructor at this place is fantastic, and that is a real motivator. There’s a reason people really love this place. And I love knowing I am supporting a small business, too. Try it!

The folks at MFF changed my whole outlook by showering me with enthusiastic, wacky support and by teaching me how to run my own race. LOVE MFF! I first found MFF as I needed to jump back in to the fitness world after having twins. I found MFF to be a warm and motivational environment no matter what stage you are at. All the classes are customizable and the instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Not your ordinary gym! Mark Fisher Fitness is a godsend fitness club in the Hell's Kitchen area. They offer virtual and in-person group classes, small group sessions for personal training and an immersive fitness experience called Ninja Academy for anyone wanting to put the pedal on their fitness journey. I started attending the in-person group classes regularly since June of last year and I am so pleased with the results. The instructors are approachable, friendly and very thorough. This place is very welcoming in general. I wish I had found them sooner. Definitely check them out if you're in the city. Worth every penny!

I joined Mark Fisher Fitness' virtual Homebody classes a couple of months ago and am hooked. The trainers are top notch. They know their stuff, are able to provide specific coaching and modifications, and are just the nicest human beings you'll encounter in a gym setting. If you've ever been turned off by aggressive, shouty trainers, MFF is the complete opposite. These are positive, funny, fun coaches who want to help you get fitter and enjoy yourself.

There really is no other choice for working out. MFF has gotten me healthy and into shape and taught me how to do it. I have had the great luck to workout in person at the gym and to workout at home with their Homebody option AND to gain knowledge and habits from their accountability coaching. Whether at the clubhouse or at home - it is like working out with friends and supportive buddies. The ONLY reason I get out of bed to workout is because I know I'm going to have a blast and get to build muscle and confidence with some of the coolest humans on the planet.

Before Mark Fisher Fitness, I was working out regularly but I wasn't making the gains I wanted, in addition to having to program my own workouts. I joined MFF to get more disciplined and their particular mix of know-how and enthusiasm helped me get more focused and learn to ENJOY my workouts. There is a sense of community at MFF that is motivating. The trainers care. And you'll see growth if you just trust the work. I do what they tell me and I get better every day. I'm so satisfied with their variety of programs that I don't know if I'll ever be able to work out anywhere else!

I've been training at MFF since 2016. The trainers are all top notch and give great cues and enough of a push to get a great workout in but they are not drill sergeants. I'm primarily a small group training person because I want to do a variety of lifts and weights, but the classes are also great with a primary focus on kettle bells. You'll definitely get a workout either route.
I'm an experienced weight lifter and go there for the small group and access to all kinds of lifts and weight ranges. However, newbies to weights are warmly welcomed, and the MFF team will teach you everything you need to know to incorporate weight lifting safely.

their virtual workout program, Homebody, has kept me sane since March 2020, and i haven't been as consistent with my workouts during the past (nearly) two years as i have since Homebody started. i am stronger than i have ever been, and in better shape too.
the community is one of a kind. the fitness is super challenging but you will be encouraged to run your own race. i laugh at least a handful of times during every workout and sometimes forget that i am doing some serious fitness because i am having so much fun.

I’m not a “gym person” but I love MFF! The in person classes are fun and engaging, plus you know your getting a great workout. I was really nervous my first time but everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It’s really a warm, supportive environment. I’ve tried a few home body classes too and they do a great job of getting everyone feeling connected and building the off-line feeling online. If your on the fence, just try it. You have nothing to lose!

I have been a group fitness person for most of my life. I just moved to an area where I've had a hard time finding "my people" and my friend was passing through in December and asked if I wanted to join her for her workout (since she was staying with me and I love working out, why not?). I was INSTANTLY hooked with the energy of the group and the trainers despite my (unfounded) reservations that online training wouldn't translate from the live experience. I signed up for my free week right away and after a few weeks I am sad on the days I don't get to workout with everyone. The trainers are SO knowledgeable and, IMHO, the best trainers I've ever worked with. THANK YOU, Mark Fisher, for being my new home for my own personal fitness journey. I can't wait until I can get up to NYC and do an IRL session with everyone, I can't recommend them enough!! Only side note for folks reading this review would be that if you aren't into really funny and enthusiastic trainers and community and sometimes some downright raunchy talk, then this may not be the place for you. :) Otherwise, if that sounds like your kind of party, then I can't recommend MFF enough. THANK YOU!!!

I've trained at Mark Fisher Fitness in person with snatched in six weeks, general classes, semi private training and now online with the Homebody program. The trainers go above and beyond to make sure you have a strong foundation with technique. They help you make modifications that enable you to "run your own race" with ease. After they get to know you they rise to the occasion and challenge you as well. The trainers, administrative team and the community inspire and uplift, I am grateful for the longterm change and growth MFF has created in my fitness routine. I am thrilled they now offer onliine classes as I moved away from NYC two years ago and my biggest fear was not having this gym. I can't recommend MFF enough.

I have been doing MFF homebody classes for almost two years. All of the teachers are amazing, and they really make you feel like you are a part of a tight-knit community. The classes themselves are really fun and engaging - the hour tends to fly by. The teachers modify for all fitness levels, and it's a very inclusive environment. The workouts vary based on the class, but overall it's a nice mix of cardio and weight-lifting. I'd recommend MFF in a heartbeat.

The only workout program I have ever stuck with because: a) it works, b) the trainers are human beings instead of bro-fit automatons, c) i can workout at home, saving me time and money. One year in I went from unable to do a push up to multiple sets of good form push ups, fitter, healthier, and happier than I have ever been. Without MFF? I cannot imagine how awful this pandemic could have felt. Instead I have fitness and a fitness community.

What a community Mark Fisher Fitness is, and how lucky I feel to have found them! Both the in person and the Homebody program make me feel like I’m connected with humans who are all interested in getting stronger and celebrating our bodies. The trainers know me intimately, and only do I feel safe to try new things here, but I feel safe to fall apart too, if I need. It’s an incredibly inclusive, warm, kind, dare I say FUN way to workout - and as someone who used to run on a treadmill for ten minutes once a week and call it a workout, I actually crave classes here and feel off when I go more than a couple days without one. The staff and customer service is out of the world, and that is because MFF is run by living, breathing, compassionate human beings who celebrate being alive through the means of fitness.

I have been a Mark Fisher Fitness member for almost 9 years. It’s by far the best gym I have been a member of. But it is obviously more than just a gym. It is the most welcoming environment in the fitness world that I have experienced (and I have been a member of a dozen gyms in the past 20 years), super professional where each trainer and staffer make you feel you are a star. While originally working out at their Hell’s kitchen location, this gym has been a lifeline these past 18 months. I was stranded outside of the city and the country when Covid started, and eventually moved out of New York City to a different state (Florida). And despite being physically away and socially distant, I have never felt more at home. Their group fitness classes, which quickly transitioned to online fitness classes as soon as the shutdown started, allowed me to continue working out on a regular basis. Actually, I have taken more classes in the past 18 months than I did in the previous 4 years combined. I was very happy to hear that while their Hell’s Kitchen location is opening up again soon for both group classes and small group personal training - their online presence will continue, allowing people like me, regardless where in the world you are (And I have taken classes in seven different time zones this past year) to maintain my workouts. If you are reading this, and considering giving Mark Fisher Fitness a try - do it. You really have nothing to lose, and it’s super affordable. And most likely, you will not just fall in love with their staff and clients in a minute (and make new friends!) you will fall in love with fitness and your body. It is really a no brainer.

I am over the moon with how Mark Fisher Fitness has adapted to offer Homebody classes by Zoom. They have gotten everything right-- there's safety, variety, self-expression, motivation, social time and availability. I've not been a five-day-a-week exerciser in a few years and after my first six weeks, MFF Homebody has me back on the mat for good. I stumbled upon MFF years ago when I lived in Hell's Kitchen. I got in the best shape of my life via their personal training and small group fitness classes. Kid you not, no gym since has ever compared to MFF in NYC. Their team is incredibly knowledgeable, cares deeply about health/wellness, and works in earnest to ensure that everyone feels welcome.
I'm writing this review today of all days because today in particular, I am so thankful that Mark Fisher Fitness has online fitness classes!! I travel frequently for work and it's such a joy be connected with the MFF community via their virtual offering of Homebody :-) It's also really fun to be in online fitness classes with people who are joining from across the coast, and at times, even across the globe! <3

I did a couple semi-private training sessions here and really enjoyed them! One thing that stood out in a positive way was that whenever my trainer (Harold) needed to correct my form he’d first give some verbal cues, and then if he still needed to make physical adjustments he ASKED first and told me exactly where he would have to touch me. That was a breath of fresh air since I’m used to instructors who just grab my body and startle me. The workout itself was fun but if you have a very specific routine that you like to do then this probably isn’t the best gym for you unless you want to pop in once a week as an accessory to your regular training.
Overall it’s a very welcoming and inclusive gym! If I ever work in Midtown I’ll definitely get a proper membership.

I was a member (ninja) of Mark Fisher Fitness for 5 years until I moved away from New York. And now that they’ve created their online program MFF Homebody I get to be back in their loving arms after two years away! There really is no place like it anywhere.
Even online the trainers can still give specific feedback on form to individual ninjas, and continue to be uplifting and body positive no matter where you are on your fitness journey. Most people don’t have weights at home and the trainers offer tons of alternatives and modifications to make sure you still get a good workout in regardless.
They truly care about each person they train.

If you're looking for a safe, fun, inclusive, chill (but challenging) fitness home this is it. Both their in-person and virtual "Homebody" classes will teach you about proper form so you can safely get in shape. Membership is composed of all kinds of folks on various fitness journeys- modifications and "running your own race" is always welcome. Zero intimidation. It's worth every penny. Now I just need to buy smaller jeans.

Regarding Unicorn Accountability Coaching: it's been a totally great experience. Britta is supportive but pushes in all of the right ways. And the time (12 weeks) is enough to really get started on changing habits past the initial thrill of something new. I've really enjoyed that ability to text/email any time and plan phone calls as well. It's really made a difference for me, and the pricing is very reasonable and a great value. The communication is always very clear and all staff super responsive and helpful.

Hey! I have been here for several years now having tried everything from boot camp, to personal trainers, and so on. MFF provides the perfect enviornment that both challenges and supports me. I used to go to "normal" gyms (Blink, Planet Fitness, ect). This is so much better. The people at Mark Fisher fitness deserve all of the stars in the sky, not just a measly five! I started MFF’s Homebody program five weeks ago, and I am hooked. The workouts are intense, but the trainers are fantastic—guiding you through the moves, answering questions, demonstrating proper form, offering alternatives for all bodies and abilities, telling hilarious jokes or stories. By the end of each workout, I’m a sweatbomb, and I feel like I can rip phonebooks in half and fight ten shiny demons all by myself. I’m so grateful for the team at Mark Fisher. I came to MFF only 4 months ago in the middle of the pandemic. I started in the 14-day challenge promotion and just never left! As a 60-year old retiree, I've been extremely pleased with the Homebody program and even more with the community that MFF works hard to create. Everyone is super friendly and extremely accepting. I love the "run your own race" and "1% better every day" philosophy of this gym. It really is a gym for people who hate gyms and hate to exercise. I exercise because I really like these people, and it also happens to be good for me--in that order of importance. In this short time, I am seeing muscles that I didn't even know I had, I've lost inches and I feel great. And, I have a whole bunch of new friends! It also gets me off my butt every day for a workout and, that's huge! It's been a wonderful experience!
It’s been 18 months and I’m still working out and sweating hard almost every day! I love this place! I’ve learned to much about fitness and health from Mark and the fantastic staff at Mark Fisher Fitness. It’s hard to believe I’ve never been inside the gym. I do it all on Zoom. And I’ve made some wonderful friends along this path. It keeps me on track for my weight loss (see my before and after pics below—although I’ve lost more weight since I took that “after” picture) and has really helped improve my back pain from spinal stenosis. So, I have no plans of stopping any time soon!

it is impossible for me to stress how much Mark Fisher Fitness has changed my life. It's not just a gym, its a community. MFF Homebody was borne out of the pandemic to help the members continue their journey in health (and hotness). I have a physical disability that doesn't allow me to do work on a mat - the trainers take good care to give me and others adjustments. even with Zoom workouts they watch your form and make sure you are safe. I work out 6 days a week and I honestly believe it has helped me deal with working from home. It is my joy at the end of a long day.

This place is FAB-u-LOUS! I've been doing the HomeBody program (virtual workout classes via Zoom) for about two months and I'm absolutely in LOVE! I already notice a difference in my energy level, physique, and how far I can push in each exercise. The trainers are really expert at leading a class via Zoom but making us all feel like we're together. They also always give suggestions to make each exercise more or less challenging and offer nothing but great support to each person regardless of their fitness level. In the same class we'll have people who are just getting started and learning the basic moves as well as pros who are pressing 50 lbs. over their head like it's nothing, and everything in between. And we all have fun doing it and we all celebrate each others' victories. If you like fun and you want to get into an exercise routine, Mark Fisher Fitness has the program for you!
UPDATE: I've been attending the Mark Fisher homebody classes for over a year now and am still fully hooked! Do yourself the favor of trying it out. You'll love it!

I’m currently a member doing semi-private workouts and Homebody, and the instructors are out of this world. They are fun, irreverent, wacky, hilarious people who can also geek out and discuss beautiful movement, mechanics, and technique. The community of MFF is also supportive, beautiful, and delightful. It is such a complete workout yet so much fun that you don't even realize how hard you are working. MFF makes working out 4-5 times a week not only doable, but FUN! Personally I'm a fan of Snatched in Six Weeks, Holiday Hotness, and Summer Camp, as I thrive on a structured schedule. All of the instructors are encouraging, super knowledgeable, and overall just really cool people.
They don't claim to be for all people, but if you want a very supportive community that will lovingly coach you to treat your body well, then this could be the place for you!

Prior to the pandemic, I had been attending in-person classes at MFF in Hell’s Kitchen. During lockdown, I let myself be lazy for several months and then decided to try out their virtual classes, Homebody.
This gym, whether in-person or online, is magical. I don’t typically “enjoy” working out. MFF makes going to the gym or attending a classes as enjoyable as possible. There’s a community of open-minded, fun-loving humans who want me to succeed in whatever way works best for me, my body and fitness goals.
The instructors are thoughtful, entertaining, motivational, and skilled at providing options for different body types. They encourage questions and always make me feel welcome and comfortable.
When staying at home in the lockdown, I tried other online classes, such as Peloton and Apple Fitness. They just aren’t the same as Homebody, which keeps me consistent and accountable in my fitness journey.
If you hate a traditional “gym” experience and want some fun, quirky friends to help motivate you on your fitness journey, this is the place for you!

I had been wanting to join MFF for a while but hesitated because I was afraid of group classes. I was scared I’d be the most out of shape person there and it would be just so discouraging. But with the strong focus on running your own race and the community building aspect, it’s the complete opposite. I can see such a huge difference in my body and also spirit and my only regret was not biting the bullet and joining sooner!!
I absolutely love the variety of homebody classes (WCW may possibly be my favorite work out classes of all time). Semi-privates are also fantastic and encouraging (shout out to Tim for getting me to lift heavy things I never imagined I’d be able to!). They’re all challenging to people of all levels. The trainers are all very cognizant of any injuries people may have and find appropriate substitutions.
The most important part, however, is how much everyone involved from Mark Fisher himself to the trainers to everyone who works there legitimately CARES.
Thank you again for creating such a wonderful, caring community who make fitness something I look forward to and honestly are making my shoulders look amazing (I’m definitely eyeing strapless dresses for a wedding I plan on attending later in the year!)

I never thought of myself as someone who enjoys working out. MFF changed that for me. Every week I couldn't wait to attend that 6:30pm class at the clubhouse. When the pandemic hit, I signed up for Homebody and found myself eagerly training 4-5 times a week. I always the last one picked for sports and I never liked working out. But when I found MFF, I found a home. This is so much more than a gym. The community they have created is incredible. The trainers, staff & other members are so supportive and celebrate your success whether that is deadlifting 300lbs or just making it thru a class. You are encouraged to "run your own race" and get "1% better" each time, whatever that means to you and the trainers will help you meet any goal you set. Last year I decided to enter a powerlifting competition. My trainers wrote me programs to help me reach my goal & I walked away with 2nd place in my weight category despite never having competed before.
While it may seem intimidating to step into a "gym" the first time, MFF is the most welcoming place in the world. When I stepped in the door almost 7 (!) years ago, they already knew me by name.
And with the pivot to Zoom classes (Homebody!), the magic is still there. It's not the same as working out right next to someone else, but the support and community still shines thru.
Now that they've opened for semi private weight training, it's been great. I was a bit reticent to work out indoors but they have created 3 separate "pods" for each person and everything is cleaned before we work out, while we work out and after. I feel very safe & cared for at MFF. Weight lifting has been an amazing way for me to stay sane and my trainers are incredible at keeping it interesting while helping me progress. I cannot imagine going elsewhere.

Don’t go. They’ve never been anything but supportive, knowledgeable and relentlessly enthusiastic about “fitness”. If you go you’re risking becoming happier and in better shape among a community of absolute weirdos, that let’s be honest, are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Did you know Crunch has a special right now? it’s so much cheaper, and there is nothing like talking yourself into spending half an hour on a treadmill, alone, in a room full of people giving you creepy side eye. The only thing creepy at MFF are the trainers and their endless love or diva trivia. Don’t worry, I still don’t know anything about Kelly Clarkson despite three years of their best efforts. Strength is one of MFFs biggest values. I’m holding strong.

Joining MFF was my 30th birthday present to myself, and it's one of the best choices I've made. I was never a fitness person (thanks, gym class), but MFF makes working out SO fun and supportive. One of the truisms you'll hear repeated is "run your own race" (meaning go at your own pace, you do you, etc.). Sounds nice, but anyone can say nice things. However, at MFF, they live it. Need to substitute out exercises for physical therapy? Taking it easy because you have a headache (or a hangover)? Wanna go EXTRA HARD today? It's all good! Everyone just wants you to feel great and move your body in the way that's right for you at that moment.

I wake up at 4:30 am four days a week so that I can take class before I go to school to teach. There are not many things that I would wake up that early for. (I live in the Pacific Northwest so the East Coast training hours are perfect for me.)

Really, I don't often trust enthusiasm yet the enthusiasm of the trainers is grounded in knowledge, expertise, and passion for beings being their best selves. I am now a year member.

I hate working out at home, and I hate group classes typically. So I have really struggled to find a fitness routine that works for me during this pandemic. I decided to get over my prejudgement and give MFF Homebody a go, and now I am addicted. The instructors are truly engaging, the program is easy to make work in any space and doesn’t require you to have any equipment. I have taken with every teacher and they all are so encouraging, positive, and informative. I love it so much, that I hate the days I don’t take a class. We cannot say enough good things about Mark Fisher Fitness - whether 'tis HomeBody, In-Person, Snatched, or ANY of the unicorn sparklin' offerings!!! We have not only lost all that weight our GP was telling us would end up killing us (literally!), but we have become weirdly, delightedly, amazingly addicted to working out with Mark Fisher Fitness - at least 5-times per week... every bloody week! Who does that? In the Dark Days (the past) we were lucky to get it together to go to Planet Fitness once or twice a month. Why is Mark Fisher Fitness so addictively cultishly consuming?! They do something really simple, really well: positive reinforcement and never letting anyone get bored. By making working out FUN and making everyone, anyone feel GOOD about working out - we just keep coming back for more, and more, and MORE!

A year ago, our GP told us lose weight or else... We whined and said our cheap local chain/brand-name gym was not working ‘cause we only were going once a month. He said, ‘shut up and try Mark Fisher Fitness.’ Well, we did... and we are thousandfold grateful for signing up! Since we signed up a year ago, we have been going four-times-per-week - religiously! Cult? Well... their approach is primarily buckets of positive reinforcement, careful training, and a few tablespoons of unicorn flavored zaniness. The trainers (and all the team including our classmates or fellow ninjas!) are truly inspirational and make our day! It bloody works wonders! I lost 22lbs and have kept it off for six months! This small cult/gym was to a much needed and very healthy lifestyle change for us (thanks to that wake-up shout from our GP)! In a year like no other, it’s hard to think of anyone who could not do with just a bit more “unicorns, glitter, epic music, and love!” in their lives (to borrow a phrase from a previous reviewer). But looking through the reviews, it might be tough to believe that the hype is not overblown – how can a gym, much less a virtual one, be so many things to so many people? And sure, I may not be able to convince you that the clubhouse is just as glorious as the reviews below say it is, just like I definitely won’t be able to convince you that it’s definitely not a cult.
But what I can tell you is that in a year that has made so very clear what a privilege it is feel like you belong somewhere -- regardless of where that may be -- MFF is one place that will always feel like home. No matter where they are on their fitness journey, every single ninja (or “gym member,” if you insist) becomes a part of this crazy, wonderful family, and at a time when the world feels increasingly divided, that’s no small thing. It's really nothing short of incredible.

A year ago I would never have imagined I would be the type of person who works out several days a week (let alone at home!) and MFF changed that. When I wanted to get more active and try to get back into working out after over a decade, it was important for me to find a place that has structure, where I would feel welcomed (and not judged), and with instructors that were knowledgeable and helpful to give me modifications for the exercises (I knew there were going to be A LOT of things I wouldn’t be able to do). Well I found exactly that at MFF. I learned the right techniques and posture so I wouldn’t get hurt, and the instructors have shown me so many modifications and alternatives that I can still work out at my level. And the great thing is that those modifications are celebrated and supported, everyone truly “runs their own race” and it’s just about getting “1% better”. And it’s also fun and silly which makes it all so much better.
And when covid hit and I started HomeBody (zoom classes) I was so pleasantly surprised that I could get good workouts at home. All I had was a yoga mat and a few cans of soup but I was able to get a great workout in with stuff around the house. Sure it helps to have some bands and weights but some days I don’t use them and still have a great workout. And even though we’re virtual, the instructors still make it feel personal and give advice on technique and modifications. (And they continue to bring fun energy and creativity - there are lots of smiles and laughs, not just sweat!).
Another great surprise was the community, seeing familiar faces on zoom on a daily basis and staying in touch in the FB group, it’s been such a bright spot during the pandemic. Never ever ever thought I would be someone who would be part of a fitness community and would get disappointed when I have to cancel a workout for some reason, but that’s who I’ve become and MFF is to thank for it and for helping me continue to get stronger and actually (sometimes) enjoy working out!

Amazing place. I have learned so much about nutrition and strength training. In my photos I see such definition in my muscles. As a runner I am supposed to hate strength training but I enjoy it almost as much as running. The only negative is having to buy new clothes or get alterations when your clothes fall off! I've been a member at MFF for five years, and have loved their philosophy & approach to fitness -- I had never really gotten much out of other gym memberships, and hated working out. The coaches & trainers at MFF are supremely knowledgeable, and their approach is practical, personal, and highly motivating, for beginners, intermediate and experts alike!! I totally love it.
This past year, they pivoted really fast to online/zoom classes with Homebody, and I have to say, it's been just as fun & effective as their in-person small classes. The coaches give excellent tips on form, are metacognitive about what you're doing & why it works, and give you excellent, specific corrections every class. They always focus on safety & effectiveness and give tons of alternatives that focus on the same muscle groups. They're incredibly adept at coaching remotely; I don't know how they do it. AND the community aspect is still strong and "just enough". I've seen more gains in the last year than I did in the club-house! Truly impressive. I feel stronger than I have since the 80's (for real).

You guys...I am definitely not a person who enjoys working out. I pretty much hate it. But, I have a history of cardiovascular issues in my family andddd I’m getting married soon, so I decided to be productive during quarantine and find an at-home workout. I came across Homebody and decided to give it a try with the new member discount. I had my first class with Mallory and was like I FOUND MY PEOPLE. Everyone is so fun and welcoming and this is definitely not your typical workout class. I have never had so much fun working out in my life. Plus, I can feel myself getting stronger already! I started my journey with MFF in Jan of 2013 in NYC. I have since moved to Chicago and have carried their teachings and spirit with me through that move. When I started working with the MFF crew, it was obvious they cared about their "clients" (really "ninjas" at the gym!) way more than your average gym. It felt more like a church (of health and hotness!) or a neighborhood community center (complete with book clubs, classified shares, fundraising events, etc) but with fitness and health as it's epicenter. It was really hard to say goodbye to MFF when I moved from NYC to Chicago in 2015, but the 2020 virus nuttiness brought them back into my life in a newly accessible way - virtual classes! In a year of plenty of things that have blown big time, this was DEFINITELY a massive positive to come from all this. NYC has long been fortunate to have the gym in their city - now there are even more opportunities for those who live elsewhere to partake in this amazing community. Can't speak highly enough of them. Love the team, the gym, the classes, and the community. Thank you!

I LOVE THESE PEOPLE! I have made my rounds at NYC boutique fitness cults over the past 15 years...Physique 57, Soul Cycle, Equinox, SLT, etc. You name it..I have tried it. Some of them I was a devoted member of for years but I truly never felt the real "buy in". Often there was clearly a hierarchy of people - you know the ones - everyone looks and dresses like a model and they radiate "health" and "body positivity" etc. but at the end of day it's all a bit of a farce for you to continue peddling and hoping that you will one day look like one of the chosen ones. Let's just say the results were sort of meh. And I'm a former athlete and generally fit. ANYWAY - this is a long winded way to say that I have never met people as amazing as the MFF crew. Not only do ALL of the instructors IMMEDIATELY learn how to pronounce your name (and remember it) but they are supportive of everyone and they mean it. There is no fake shrine to some imaginary perfect bodied god. No - they want you to be the best version of yourself and they will help you 110% to get there. And so will everyone else in your class! I have never had a fitness class be this FUN while working SO HARD. Which is to say - I am stronger than I have ever been, more confident than I have ever been and I genuinely have never looked forward to my 6.30am alarm as much as this. OH and the best part? I have never even met these people in person - I joined in May during the pandemic and have never been so happy. Do yourself a favor - try MFF out...whether you are already super fit or trying not to be a couch potato anymore...I promise you will fit in and feel wrapped in a warm blanket of support, humor and overall love.

After seven years of in person classes and training (including completing the Mark Fisher Fitness focused strength program, Snatched In Six Weeks and two other Snatched-like four-week programs) and restarting workouts online with the HomeBody program, I can attest to the care and support and the encouragement I have received from this incredible gym AND to the results of the work I have done and still do there.
Do I still hate exercising? Yes! But I look forward to taking part in my classes there, and damn, do I always feel better when I do

It can be really hard sometimes to find the right places for you in NYC - in all aspects. Maybe you try five different coffee places before finding the perfect latte. Perhaps it took you twelve years to finally pick your favorite bar. For me, finding the right fitness space was a long journey through Bollywood dance, ClassPass, marathon running, and a local community gym membership - all of which did something, certainly, but weren't exactly THE thing I was looking for. I would go to the gym and swim laps or do 45 minutes of random cardio, be unsatisfied, and walk out thinking that the only good thing I got out of it was the use of some nice towels.
Last December, I found my way to Mark Fisher Fitness (after having their website open in a chrome tab for, no joke, no less than three straight months) and finally found the right fit. MFF members vary in shape, size, age, along the gender identity spectrum, and experience, but they all share a quality of openness and encouragement. There is not a single member of this gym that I have ever encountered who isn't generous with their spirit. And that isn't even saying anything about the instructors, who are, to a person, intelligent, caring, dedicated, and motivating. I have learned a ton from classes and semi-private training, but also from instructors who go out of their way to chat with me about something they spotted in my form or a shared interest outside of the gym. I don't even live in Hell's Kitchen/Midtown, and I am absolutely willing to travel for what this gym offers: community and fitness wrapped in a glittery bow.
During COVID, MFF has pivoted to offering online classes through HomeBody. The instructors zoom into your living room and you are on video (if you want to be) so they can see what you do and offer instruction and guidance. They've done a fantastic job of translating the clubhouse atmosphere online, and honestly in March/April it was the only thing that made me feel connected to anything beyond the four walls of my apartment. If you've been waiting to join because you'd rather do something in person, I encourage you not to let perfect be the enemy of good here. You CAN do fitness in your own house if you have to, you WILL figure out clever things to lift if you don't have weights (wine bottles, laser printers, cases of seltzer) and you DO laugh while exercising. No, seriously. I laugh so much while exercising. Maybe you need a laugh and a kettlebell swing in your life, too.

I have been a Ninja at MFF for a few years - did my first round of Snatched at the HK location, then was there on Day 1 when they opened Bowery (RIP #8:30forever). I started Homebody I think in week 2, and it has gone so far past any expectations I had it's not even quantifiable. The community and culture of MFF is the strongest I have ever been a part of in any aspect of my life, and I have so much respect for what the team there does. The last year has been one of so many losses, and instead of adding MFF to the list of what used to be, it's become even more a part of my life. I work out more, feel connected to the community even more than I did before, and literally cannot imagine not seeing those faces almost every day. My happy place. One of my favorite places on earth. Before Covid, I was rocking out 5 workouts a week at MFF and crushing my fitness goals on the regular. The staff and trainers are top of the line. Knowledgeable, kind, funny, energetic weirdos one and all. I have never posed a question they couldn’t expertly answer or met a hurdle they didn’t push me to overcome with love, guidances, and endless enthusiasm.
Since Covid took a dump on our lives, I’ve been doing their excellent online program (MFF HomeBody) and it is KILLER. I felt so out of control during the hardest months of the pandemic, but HomeBody has helped me focus, given me purpose in the morning, kept me connected to the MFF community, and perhaps most importantly, given me the tools to love working out at home. The programming is creative, exciting, and challenging, and that special MFF touch is all over everything they do.

I heard about the brilliance behind the programs, the absolute gifts that are the trainers, and the magical culture cultivated at Mark Fisher Fitness in Knoxville, TN prior to moving to NYC... and it turns out, IT IS ALL TRUE!!! I have always worked out. If it was a fad, I probably tried it. If it was a class, I probably took it. Trainers, chain gyms, boutique gyms, crossfit gyms, barre, kickboxing, spin, pole, yoga/hot yoga, running, mountain biking... you get the picture. I have always looked for what would give me the best results most efficiently. Obviously, this has been a very long and at often times misguided journey. Until now, because MFF gets it. The programs are smart, well thought out, and rooted in science. Since the trainers and everyone that works at MFF are genuinely interested in helping you make your fitness dreams come true, no one is going to be pushy or try to sell you something you don't need. You'll never feel judged for the way you look, your skill level, your ability, or even that doughnut you ate. I have had the absolute pleasure of taking part in Semi Private training sessions, Snatched, and in person classes prior to the pandemic as well as Homebody. Insanely, magically, wonderfully good. There's something special about this place. From the moment you walk in the door, you're part of a community and a family. Not just any old community, but the loveliest and warmest one you can imagine.
Who's it for? Literally anyone. I strolled in as a chubby, overtired, aging radiologist and walked out feeling like a rockstar ninja after just one class. I have never experienced such a simultaneously supportive, fun and productive environment.
