Absolute Power is a great gym with equipment for any area of your body you’re looking to improve. The staff is caring, looks out for your best interest and makes you feel welcomed. Pricing is affordable especially if you opt in for the annual plan ($44-50ish/month. Been a member for 1 year and plan on signing for another.

One of the best decisions I ever made was getting a membership here. This gym has the best energy, staff, and feel. I truly look forward to my workouts here because I feel so comfortable in the space. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure all members feel welcome and have everything they need to feel right at home and enjoy their workout. The gym has a good mix of functional fitness with traditional gym equipment and doesn’t get too crowded like many commercial gyms in the area. Definitely recommend trying it out!

I have been a member of this gym for 13 years, even though I recently moved to Queens. I love the atmosphere here. And Miguel (the owner is awesome). He is very accommodating to loyal members. I hadn't returned for 2 years after the pandemic. He started my membership counter from scratch when I returned. I was prepared to negotiate as much time as I could get. I would never have guessed he'd offer a fresh new year starting on that day. I also like the mellow attitudes of the members of the gym. None of the usual Gym-Jerks here. Come join! You won't regret it.

I wrote the below while I was still living in the area and I still mean every word of it. I had some issues recently with the card on file and Miguel personally dealt with the situation. The whole team there has about the best customer service I have ever seen and they truly treat each member like family. I am trying to move back to the area just to go to this gym. Also they have the second floor open and new equipment!! Absolutely one of the best gyms around. The owner Miguel is there everyday talking to his customers, checking up on everyone, and all around a great guy. The staff is all super friendly and is always available to help you. I'm very sad to be leaving this gym (moving out of the area) and have been struggling to find another like it, it's an absolute gem. My girlfriend who struggles with getting in the gym due to anxiety felt like she was at home here and that is really saying something. Please do not pass this place up. Also they are expanding into the second floor!

Absolute Power is an excellent gym. The staff is very friendly and responsive. Much better than the corporate gyms. They have the latest equipment and keep it super clean. Plus the rowing machine is almost always available! I can't recommend this gym enough. A membership with Absolute Power is an investment in yourself. Money well spent and worth every penny!

This is the best gym I have ever been a member of. Miguel (the owner) is such a nice guy and continuously updates the equipment. All the staff are very kind as well, and works hard to keep the facility super clean. While it can get busy during after work hours its never overly packed where you have to wait more than 5min for a squat rack or deadlift platform. Members are respectful and everyone works out hard!

This is a great gym! There is tons of space and it's never too crowded. Additionally, everyone is incredibly nice from staff to members. Also - I had an issue with my billing and Miguel, the owner, was unbelievably helpful. It makes a huge difference when dealing with an issue to have a local owner with a stake in their business, versus a large corporate billing department. 10/10 would recommend!

I have been on the road for work and stopped in to see if they had a day pass (they do) but ended up signing up for a week pass. It was cheap. The gym is no-frills in the best way. The space is on the smaller side but they make the most of it without making it unbearable. The staff are friendly and the members are not obnoxious. Just to give a critique to balance it out, sometimes pairs of weights were hard to find. But it's a busy place at times and someone is probably using them. All in all it was a good experience

Such a great gym experience. The owner and staff are so welcoming and provide great opportunities for personal training. This gym has a very non judgemental and welcoming environment. The space seems to absorb patrons during busy hours and is kept in good, clean condition. There are plenty of machines for everyone as well. The protein smoothies are delicious too!

The owner takes really good care of the space (old equipment is constantly being replaced by new equipment), and he treats everyone very respectfully. The staff is also very friendly as well. A great environment, especially for beginners like myself.

It's hard to find a gym with as good of a selection of free weights, machines, cardio equipment, and barbells as Absolute Power Fitness. The staff and owner are always around, and you can tell that the owner is constantly investing in new equipment. 5/5 definitely check it out if you live nearby.

I’ve been to dozens of gyms across Manhattan/BK (Equinox, Crunch, Blink, etc.) and Absolute Power is the one I’ve stuck with the longest because the staff treats you like fam, there’s no pushy selling atmosphere or crazy policies, the membership prices are super reasonable, and they have everything you need and nothing you don’t. From a lifting perspective, this place is a gem. It only really gets crowded around the 5-8p rush hour. Also, you can tell that AP cares about making improvements and they listen to their members- new equipment/machines get added or replaced regularly. Overall happy to support this place!

I’ve been coming to this gym for over a year, and I have nothing but great things to say. This is not a “fitness center;” rather, it’s an old school gym that is tough to find nowadays. Want to grunt and throw up weight before/after work and get a sweat? If so, this is the gym for you. The equipment might appear to be outdated (to be clear, there is zero rust on any of the machines/dumbbells, etc), but they operate efficiently to the fullest extent. They have dumbbells ranging from very light weight upwards to 150-200lb. If you’re trying to free squat, they have three racks, safety pins, and obviously barbells. You can deadlift in one of the racks as well. If you’re looking to deadlift/RDLs/clean and press, they have two platform rubber mats. Mirrors are everywhere. They have great accessory equipment, such as bands, jump ropes, etc. They also have a rower and air dyne! The gym also has a cardio area on their second floor filled with treadmills, stairmasters, and ellipticals. Also, they have a turf area designed for stretching, core workouts, jump rope, etc. The hours of operation are GREAT; opening up at 5:30 AM is huge for me. The membership price is VERY REASONABLE. As it relates to the staff, Miguel (the owner) is the absolute man. You’ll see him usually throughout the day walking around the gym, greeting members, and making sure the gym is organized and hazard-free. The support staff members are incredible and I cannot say that lightly. Not to mention the gym also has a smoothie/shake station…their protein shakes are delicious, and they don’t use cheap supplement brands. I highly recommend this gym for your training and physical goals.

This is a third revised review, due to the many improvements that have been added. Absolute Power Fitness is conveniently located, near the Grand Street L station, a few stops from Union Square. It fills a void for gyms in the NYC metro area, for the value it offers at an affordable price. You won’t find spotlights or floral bouquets, but it’s not a dungeon cave, either. After searching and searching, I finally found what I was looking for: a serious, no-frills but fully equipped, moderately priced gym. In fact, I've been reunited with members I previously knew from Richies, and even from a Gold’s gym that closed years ago. We've all ended up here. Serious bodybuilders work out here, but there's a harmonious blend of diverse ages and body types in a supportive atmosphere. Some of the little things I appreciate, because they do make a difference: a cold water fountain on the same level as the main gym, both cold and hot water in the bathroom, and ceiling fans that keep the air moving year-round, even with the air-conditioning. I’ve been here for over a year, and I only recently saw one out-of-order sign on a machine. That sign showed the specific date when an ordered part was scheduled to arrive. I’ve never seen that kind of accountability in any other gym. The cheerful, energetic maintenance workers are a great team, zooming around, cleaning, putting back weights/equipment. They're the best I've ever seen. The front desk staff are courteous, intelligent, and competent, with customer service skills mastered down to a science. How often do you find that in a gym? If you check the reviews of other gyms, as I have, the answer is somewhere between rarely and never. There is now a new upstairs area, with extra cardio machines, and a very nice smaller gym. I am told it's supplied with everything a trainer would need for working with clients who desire a more private setting. On the main level downstairs, we now have added cable stations, new flat and incline benches, a new Nautilus Smith, a Glute Drive, flat, decline/incline barbell benches, and more. They’re all rock solid, comfortable, and easy to adjust. Now I can finally make an exact adjustment of a decline barbell press to my height, with no jiggle or give, which really helps my form. Several stations have new covers and cushions. On top of that, there are two stretching areas, one of which is its own separate room, supplied with mats, BOSU balls, kettlebells, rowing machines, bands, etc. At APF, you’re never pressured to work with a trainer. However, you will probably want to work with them, sooner or later. After a free hour-long introductory assessment, you're entitled to three more sessions at half-price. I worked with Miguel Ojeda, who, in the assessment, identified a muscle imbalance, and in the next three sessions, transformed my approach to working out. If I believe the positive comments coming my way, I'm getting results. He continues to check in with me regarding my progress, and my routines, like a true mentor. I am very much looking forward to working with him again. The members are exceptionally polite and generous toward each other, in wiping off benches, sharing equipment, trading tips, or just having a good time. I am making new friends on a continual basis, so from a social standpoint, I always look forward to coming here. All of the above is no doubt thanks to the cheerful and energetic efforts of the manager, Miguel, who runs his business hands-on with obvious pride and care. Cool graffiti artwork lines the walls and columns, including inspirational quotes from philosophers and athletes, including this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: "You must do the things you think you cannot do." Well, at APF, you have the setup, the support, and the atmosphere that will help you to go beyond what you thought you could do.

This is my favorite gym I've ever been to! The owner clearly really cares about it, and is always putting in work to make it better. He's also super friendly, I've never been to a gym with such an engaged and kind manager/owner. All the staff are great, too. The atmosphere also feels very community-like and not like a corporate gym. Would highly recommend!

I made a few friends who had the same schedule as well, really nice community. No nonsense gym, has everything you need and all the support you want. When I moved to East Williamsburg a few years ago I knew I wanted to get back in the gym. Joining absolute power was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Everyone there is super friendly and welcoming and there’s a great community energy throughout this gym. I’m moving out of NYC and without a doubt will not be able to join a gym as great as absolute power, but that’s life. It just makes my time there that much more special. Can’t say enough good things about this place and the owner/ staff. If you want to start a gym membership do it here and you won’t regret it.

Good gym at a reasonable rate. It def gets swamped with the 9-5 crowd after standard work hours during the week but that's the case with any gym. If you go during off peak hours it's pretty manageable and there's plenty of equipment for whatever workout routine you're into

Stayed in Williamsburg for my vacation and decided to go to this gym for a workout. The staff were super friendly and the day pass price was very reasonable. The facility itself can be a little cramped but very manageable. The equipment is older for sure but if you are an old school lifter, you will absolutely love the vibe here. I loved the décor on the walls and they had a great variety and assortment of equipment to use. Overall, if you are in the area than this is a great gym and highly recommend it!

Solid no-frills, local gym. Has all the equipment you’d need at a good price. However, the incredibly friendly staff and owner are what sets this gym apart. Even when I cancelled my membership early because I had a free gym at my office, they let me cancel hassel-free, thanked me for my business, and let me finish my month out. The main thing I like about this gym is the vibe of the patrons they're all very respectful and focused. Second thing I love is that I can do barbell workouts in like 5 different places and I never feel like I have to wait for things- can't tell you how valuable that is to me! I will also say this gym is cleaner than the other gyms I've been to in the area, and the machines operate better, they also have more variety of bodybuilding machines!

APF is way more than a gym - it’s a family and a community. The staff and other gym goers are kind, friendly and supportive. The facilities are always clean, there’s ample equipment and they are always taking feedback from members as to how to improve their experience. Membership prices are beyond reasonable. There’s also a smoothie/shake bar at the front desk for pre or post workout nutritional needs. I’d workout here for the rest of my life!

Want a gym with a better machine/ weight/ barbell/ anything collection than a soulless corporate spot with local owners that treat you better than your own family? How about at a price that’s more competitive than every gym in the area? This place is an absolute gem of brooklyn and deserves every good word. There’s a reason it has so many high reviews, I could write forever about how fantastic this place is. They know your name, they care about your health and workout, and I swear it seems like they put every single dollar of revenue back into constantly improving the gym week after week. Treadmills? Brand new with built in screens. Row machine? They have two. Hip thrust machine? They got one. Squat racks? Three. Every band, mat, accessories that’s out there. Smoothie bar? Yup. Hell even the bathroom/ locker room/shower is immaculate and brand new. Promptly stopped fees during the Covid shutdown no questions asked. Always there if you have an issue. I’ve referred over 7 people to this gym, half of them women out of the fact while they do have the weight and bars for the muscle heads they manage to maintain a space that feels safe and functional for women and men of all fitness levels as well. This place puts other gyms to shame in every fathomable way. If I ever move, I don’t think I have the heart to even cancel my membership out of principle to support such a positive great space to work out.

Honestly the best gym I've been to in New York. They have 3(!) squat racks and lots of bench presses, so you're almost never waiting for equipment that's usually high in demand at other gyms, even during 'busy' times. Reasonably priced, & not soulless like more prevalent chains - the owner and staff are super nice and helpful. This is a great neighborhood spot where you can get in and out if that's your thing, or kind of meet the regulars if you want more of a community vibe. Plus, there's every machine and piece of equipment that you could ever want.

Due to the pandemic, I canceled my NYSC membership and found this local gym near my home. This gym has everything you need, whether it’s body building or power lifting and everything in between. It is the definition of a raw and local gym, with Brooklyn graffiti painted across the walls to fully represent the neighborhood. All the members are courteous of one another, doing their best to keep things clean and re-racking weights. The owner Miguel is awesome and really cares about his members and his gym. Him and his whole staff makes everyone feel welcomed and it shows with the mutual respect the members have for them. I have tried all different gyms from Planet Fitness to Equinox. Absolute Power Fitness is a great gym for all types of gains at a very reasonable price point. The shakes are amazing too - you gotta try the Cracker Jax!

Great gym! You know the gym is for real when everyone who goes there is SUPER BUFF. It has every machine/equipment that I need for my upper and lower body weight training. Many cardio machines as well. Love the vibes in this place, great music, everyone is friendly, respectful and attentive. They sell protein smoothies. Good membership price. The equipment is well maintained and clean too. Lots of space and mirrors. Bathroom is no big deal but its always clean and has lockers. And lastly, its never too busy that you have to wait in line for a machine or a set of weights 10/10 would recommend.

I’ve had more opportunity to better myself than I think i ever have before because of all the pieces in place at APF: the equipment, the staff, and the people. This gym is simply the best. They bring in new, quality equipment faster than i can test out the old stuff. Everyone in the staff is like family and VERY much treat you as such. The atmosphere and the people who fill it are just incredible. Been coming here for close to 2 years now, and even if I left the area, i would still make commute and come back and lift at APF.

I am 35 years old and have been regularly going to gyms for almost 20 years. I went to this gym for 3 years but moved away. This was hands down the best gym because, unlike every other gym I have ever experienced, this gym is not a megacorp interested in generating the most profit off of you. The costs of this gym are transparent, and the owner - Miguel - will openly discuss them with you. Also, the equipment, the people, and the energy is A+. There is a very warm community-type feeling in the gym. I'm gonna miss it. FWIW - I alternate between running, rowing, and lifting. I do not power lift. There is a good selection of equipment (free weights and machines) and space. Also, stuff is quickly replaced if it breaks. In the 3 years I went to this gym, only 1 time was it "too crowded" for me to do the workout I intended that day (I have a specific machine circuit I do, and I don't like waiting around.. so I ran instead). Literally 1 time. I usually went between 7-9pm weekdays, which is close to peak time. Last thing I'll say.. the rest of the staff is great - Nina, Andy, and Aiden are all attentive and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. The fact that I know their names is amazing since I am generally a quiet and introverted person. I hope this review was helpful.

I’ve been a member for the past 2ish years and this is my favorite gym that I’ve ever been a member of. You’re not getting anything fancy here but there’s plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment for all. Facilities are kept clean and the staff is always extremely friendly. Generally speaking good gym etiquette from all members and everyone is respectful of one another. Only at the busiest times have I ever had to wait for a station to open up though pre covid working in with someone else’s sets was the norm. Moving this month and will miss coming here.

The intensity shared by every member here makes it easy to focus on your workout. There’s even a rule to stay off your phone while on a machine. The dumbbells are never in the right order, but it usually doesn’t taken more than 30 seconds to find the ones you’re looking for. Expect to hear some grunts from heavy lifters.

Here is why I always prefer neighborhood gyms over chain gyms: the owner, Miguel, take a personal interest in the happiness of his patrons and has continued all three years I've been a member to make improvements and keep things up to his high standard. If a machine is broken he fixes it immediately, and theres plenty of bands and kettle bells and weights for everyone. He's also remembers peoples names and says hi and chats whenever he's around, which is often, and the staff he hires is always super nice. Coming back after the pandemic I noticed that the gym not only got a deep cleaning but the heavily used machines have been moved around to intersperse with less used machines to ensure distance from other people, which I noticed (as observed from a treadmill in the back) works really well. They also offer masks and hand sanitizer if needed. For the ladies, the clientele is mostly body builders (who only look at them selves :) and women, I've never felt weird about wearing short shorts or doing squats, even when its crowded. Highly recommend this gym to anyone who lives in the area!

Great gym and amazing hours! The owner actually gives a damn about this place. The entire gym is recently updated (like weeks ago). It’s a gym people, not a spa retreat. There are lockers, bathrooms and a shower. A bunch of equipment for all your needs, squat racks and tons of weights. As a female, gyms can be a bit uncomfortable but I feel 100% safe to do as I please here. The staff is always gracious and they willing to make you a smoothie or just say hello. The pricing is very fair and the owner asks your opinions on ways he can improve. It’s nice to have someone who actually understands that their business succeeds if the consumers/customers are happy! Who would of though such an easy concept could be so complicated for most! They even offer some Zumba classes in the separate room where you can do stretching unless you’d rather stretch out in the new area he just built up by the entrance. Never any complaints and I’m happy to call this my gym.

Broken equipment is always fixed promptly, constant upgrades (new equipment, classes, trainers, shakes, etc.), owners and staff are super friendly and always make sure you’re satisfied. When I first moved to Brooklyn, I tried out multiple different gyms. I live closer to several other gyms, but decided to sign up here because it has everything I need, the equipment is nice, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I've been training here consistently for nearly a year now, and I've noticed tons of improvements since then. The gym has gotten a new owner since I've joined who has gone above and beyond to improve the place. If you've been here before and didn't like it, I'd suggest you give it another shot. I can't see myself switching gyms any time soon.

I’ve been a member at this gym for two years. I absolutely love this place. They have vast equipment and every year their variety grows. They have everything from cardio to elliptical, from free weights to machine weights, even Pilates equipment. They also offer smoothies there that are pretty delicious. Employees are always friendly and the owner is usually around making sure everyone is satisfied and helps people struggling trying to understand how to work the equipment(like I was). The place is also beautifully decorated with inspirational quotes that actually help push yourself through your workout. The crowd at the gym are also very nice people. There’s no douchiness there, everyone is there to get their work out in and is friendly. And it’s also very clean. Overall, 100% would recommend to anyone considering it. Three reasons APF should be your local gym. 1. Direct communication with the owner. Miguel is the only gym owner to proactively, and directly, ask patrons what he can do to improve the gym. A quick story: I asked (on the legit hottest day of the year) what could be done to boost the AC during peak hours. I kid you not — the very next day Miguel showed me where he had already installed two high powered oscillating fans and where he intended to install more. 2. Workout atmosphere. People come here to get a workout, period. As far as I can tell, everyone is focusing on themselves. No attitudes, harassment, or judgment. It's an old-school gym environment that chains can't match. And believe it or not, the motivational slogans spray painted on the walls actually worked to boost my morale. I'm as surprised as anyone. 3. Workout variety. For a relatively small space, APF can accommodate every type of workout. Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, and other low impact machines for cardio. Round bumper plates and platforms for deadlifts. Three squat racks. Open space for jump rope and HIIT workouts. All the cable machines, and even a turf area for whatever you'd use a turf area for! Bottom line: Check it out.

Miguel has done a fantastic job of revamping this place. Been a member on and off since 2007/8? and it’s LEAPS and BOUNDS from where it started. Plenty of cardio and strength training machines and free weights. The floor room is usually not crowded and there’s ample equipment to do your thing. The staff is super friendly and they keep the space clean. The bathrooms/locker room is kind of sparse, could use a little Love, but at the price, you really can’t beat what you get at AP. 👍👍

This gym is good for what it is worth. It is only 30 dollars a month and the facilities are ok if you just want to lift weights, which in theory was perfect for me. The biggest issues are: 1) No one puts back the weights after they lift. So there are free weights scattered all over the gym. 2) The locker rooms and the overall facilities are disgusting. 3)The biggest issue is that it is 79 dollars to join and 99 dollars to terminate your membership. All in all this place is solid if you live close and are on a budget. However, it is worth the extra 20-30 dollars a month to go to a better gym.

I understand all the poor reviews, but at the same time, you get what you pay for: The gym yearly fee is $400, and if you sign up during the right time you can get it even cheaper. For someone that wants to get in, and get out, this gym is perfect. Is it the most cleanly gym? No. Are some of the machines broken? Sure; But, it's $400 and I have yet to have a problem. I'm not going there thinking I'll get a nice hot shower and a towel after, I'm going to lift weights, do cardio, and go home. From my experience the staff is incredibly friendly and willing to help - that being said, I have had difficulty with some of the 'regulars' at the gym, who do not work there, telling me what to do, etc. (It's nice, but after the fifth time, leave me alone, thanks.) This is a small gym where you go to just work out, nothing more. I enjoy going because most people there have the attitude of getting in and getting out.

This is a great, down to earth gym. Plenty of barbells and dumbbells. Never so packed that it’s impossible to get a rack. Management is super nice and understanding, if you ever need anything just ask.

Really solid free weight section. Nice turf area with kettlebells, swiss balls, bosu ball, etc. Aerobic room has bodyweight cardio equipment you're free to use (floor ladder, jump ropes, battle rope) and is big enough to do your own thing as well. Cardio machines are diverse and not just a bunch of treadmills (row machines, stairmasters, stationary bikes, arc trainer). Only qualm is the climate control isn't the best, but you're there to sweat anyway, right?

This gym is fantastic. It has everything you need for a great workout - no matter the type of workout anyone prefers doing. Reasonably priced membership too. The best part is the personable owner and friendly staff. I recently had an issue with my membership and not only did I get a fast response, the owner reached out to me personally, talked me through the issue and rapidly solved it, putting me at ease. Businesses sometimes face hurdles, but they don't always put the customer first when handling it. This one did. I can't recommend this gym enough.
