Reviews of 34 Degrees North

They really make it a point to meet you where you're at in terms of your fitness and goals which makes it easy to fit right into what is as much a community as it is a gym. Highly recommended!
Emily Birdwhistell
I train at 34 North taking the group classes as well as personal training sessions with Sarah. I can honestly say that it is my favorite place I've ever worked out. The trainers are all top notch--encouraging, knowledgeable, and tough (in a good way). I've made huge changes in my fitness and I'm always excited to go for work outs there. Even at 5:45am, which is definitely saying something.
The classes accommodate all levels and the trainers are experienced at making workouts effective for all experience and fitness levels. I never get bored and the hour sessions fly by (even though I often leave exhausted). The gym is also a great community. People are friendly and know each other, but are not exclusive--newbies are welcomed with open arms!
Definitely check out 34 North if you want an effective, fun, supportive community to work out in.
Note: it can be a bit tricky to find. Enter like you are going in the Car Nerds driveway and go all the way to the back of the building, past the dance studio. You'll find it!

34 North is hands down the best gym I have ever been to. All of the trainers are welcoming, professional, and fun (which is rare to find in one place)! They each have specialized knowledge, experience and skills that they happily share with everyone at the gym. 34 North offers a variety of group fitness classes that focus on mobility, endurance, and strength (among others). They also offer special one-on-one training sessions if you want an extra level of attention.
The classes are always thoughtfully structured, fun, and the workouts are tough! Class size ranges from 5-15 (at most), which means that you get the attention you are paying for. This is the place for you if you want to learn the right training techniques. All of the trainers begin classes with a thoughtful warm-up that gets your body and mind ready for a workout, and they focus on technique, form, posture, etc. throughout the class to make sure you're doing the exercise correctly. Safety is a top priority; they never push you beyond a weight that would get you in trouble. The trainers also offer excellent tips on ways to take care of your body outside the gym (diet, extra mobility at work, mindfulness).
Everyone at 34 North - trainers, members, ClassPassers - enjoys their time together in the gym. People work hard, help each other and have lots of fun here. The team of trainers truly cares about creating community, whether you're just dropping in for the first time or you're one of the regulars. If you care about fitness, you need to check out 34 North!

I’ve been using trainers for over 20 years. In that time I’ve belonged to Gold’s, Equinox, World Gym, 24-Hour, as well as small private gyms in Santa Monica and the Palisades (anyone else remember Pacific Athletic Club?)
34-North is the best place I’ve ever trained. I’ve gotten better results, and had a better experience than anywhere else, hands down.
Training was something I used to think I “had” to do to keep healthy. Now it’s something I love to do because of 34-North.
They’re professional, responsible, knowledgeable – and fun.
Tanner, Kevin, and everyone else at 34-North are the best – and I speak from experience.

Love this place. Its my place of meditation - we train hard, learn heaps about movement, nutrition and functional fitness, support one another like a true community (inside and out of the gym) and have loads of fun (and aching muscles). I thought I knew about fitness training and was in good shape but within a week, I was truly humbled. Over the last two years have enjoyed the journey led by Tanner and the rest of the 34 coaches who know their stuff inside-out and will take the time to help you get better - they invest their time and energy every day to help anyone who walks through those doors.

34 North is more than a gym, and you'll see that once you experience it. When you walk in, you'll see notice the beautiful aesthetic - the big windows, the sunny colors, industrial touches, the fresh air flowing through. I mean, if you're spending a chunk of your week somewhere, you want it to be nice to look at!
Then, you'll feel the positive vibes as you're welcomed by the staff and clients (aka Northerners). Nobody is a stranger for long here. It's no mistake that Lo & Tanner (the owners) created this environment. They put their hearts into what they do, and that's made clear with the work they have done to make this place what it is. 34 is built on positive community, solid training methods and a mindful approach to movement. As a member here, you're getting much more than a killer workout. Training and being active are huge parts of my life, so having a gym where that is understood and encouraged is priceless to me.
The trainers are all approachable and excellent at what they do. They are experts in their specialties, and will always keep your form in check. It's quality over quantity here, and that's what gets results. The training staff is a team, and they are all on the same page about programming and 34's training philosophy.
I started taking classes here in September 2018, and since then I've seen progress in many areas of my training. My upper body strength has improved immensely, and so has my core. I've trained abs every way you can think of, but nothing has been more effective than the workouts I do at 34. I attribute my progress to the thoughtful programming and the trainers! The classes are enjoyable and challenging, as they should be. I've also learned skills on the gymnastics rings, improved my kettlebell technique and my handstands.
If you're over big box gyms and mindless fitness classes, you're looking to step up your fitness game, wanting to learn some really cool skills, and be part of an awesome community, then 34 North is your gym!

34 North is by far one of the best gyms I have had the opportunity to work out at. Each trainer "coach" at 34 North is knowledgeable and charismatic. They will guide you through a tough workout and push you to be the best you.
Wednesday & Thursday evening Fast & Strong classes with coach Sarah have pushed me to be a stronger athlete on and off the rugby pitch. All while pushing you through a physical workout - Sarah encourages members to focus on form to help prevent and treat injuries.
Hands down the best gym community that I have belonged to. Your workout friends become more like family.

If you are looking for a gym that will transform your body, has a family environment, and is fun! - 34 North is the place. I have been taking classes for 5 months now and could see results within the first two weeks. There is a variety of classes and they focus on full body movement. The Trainers are all awesome and take the time to make sure you focus on form and challenge you as pick up certain skill sets. I have been an playing sports my entire life and into collegiate sports and strongly recommend this gym to anyone.

I have been training in gyms for more than 20 years in different states and even different countries. I have not yet seen a team of coaches as knowledgeable, skilled, supportive, engaged, and customer-oriented as the team at 34 North.
This gym is not your average gym where you go and spend countless hours on machines that don't fit your body and won't get you any results. It's also not your average CrossFit gym with workouts that are performed "prescribed" but with horrible form. This is the place where you learn proper form from coaches who can demonstrate and then adapt it specifically to you and your circumstances (prior injuries, limited mobility, etc.). Then, and only then, will they push you to increase your strength, endurance, agility, balance, etc.
I have been training with Tanner since August 2015 after being inactive for 1.5 years due to a back injury. Actually, my physical therapist recommended Tanner as I was not making progress in gaining strength and mobility. My progress since last August is beyond any expectations I might have had. I'm stronger with more body and movement control than ever before.
I would encourage anybody to try out 34 North. It's easily the best gym I've ever worked out in.

When I stumbled onto 34 North, I was going to Equinox and feeling like my workout routine was getting pretty stale. After trying out 34 North for a week, I canceled my Equinox membership and haven't looked back. This gym is the best. Tanner, Lo and the rest of the staff have created a culture that's welcoming and supportive. They make you feel like family. While each coach has a different style, the workouts are always focused around functional movement and athleticism. There's no pressure to get things done in a specific amount of time ala CrossFit. Proper form is stressed and everyone goes at their own pace. I've been taking a lot of classes from Kevin and Orion, but all the coaches are top notch. Don't get me wrong, the workouts are hard and will push your body, especially Kevin's sessions. But you'll be happy you went and even happier you stuck with it.
Mike Frager
I've been working with Kevin Atkinson for almost a year and I will say that the results have been major. It's basically been a night and day difference since when I started. Compared to other trainers at most commercial fitness clubs, Kevin will actually push you to get stronger, while the others might help you stay skinny but you probably won't build up much strength. Kevin's workouts are very comprehensive and focus on all muscle groups. He also knows a ton of different exercises so the workouts are always different and challenging. I would highly recommend working with Kevin for anyone at any stage of strength training.

34 North has changed my life in the best way possible. I have always been an athletic person, and worked out consistently and hard, or so I thought, until I started training with Tanner a couple of years ago and then going to 34 North when it opened. Turns out I was stuck in a rut, doing the same things, and just floating along pretty happy with the way my body was. I never thought I could actually lose weight (although I didn’t have much to lose, and that wasn’t my main intention for working out). 34 North has changed all of that and has challenged me in ways I never thought possible, and in turn has changed by body. I am leaner (dropped a jean size for the first time in my entire life), stronger, and healthier than I have ever been, and that is because of this gym.
If you are looking for a gym that is unique and refreshing, this is your place. The classes and coaches all offer something different, but challenge you the same, and truly care. I started going two times a week, and now I am unlimited because I can’t get enough. And on top of everything, you are surrounded by a really great group of fun, friendly, like-minded people. Love this gym!!
Erica Sin
34 North is hands down the best investment I have made over the last couple years. I started training there with Sarah as part of my rehab process after a horrific leg break, and then started incorporating group classes into my routine.
The trainers are all so knowledgeable, and the gym has become like family to me. I want to work out, I love the camaraderie, and the holistic approach is a breath of fresh air when all you hear about is BMIs and getting your summer body ready.
I'm fitter and stronger than I've ever been, and I couldn't imagine working out at another gym!
Nicole Sinkys
I've worked out with trainers at several gyms in Santa Monica (Spectrum, Equinox, Vert) and Tanner and his crew are by far the most knowledgeable group of coaches. I love the approach at 34 North, that fitness is more about the journey than the destination. Tanner has helped me work through injuries, better myself, increase my strength, lose weight, feel more centered after great workouts and has educated me about nutrition and taking care of my body. I've also enjoyed the weekly yoga classes there with JQ and have trained with Sarah, as well. 34 North isn't just a gym, it's my fitness family.

I sought out 34 Degrees North as a gym because they specialize in kettlebell training, functional movement, and offered small group classes. Every aspect of 34 Degrees North has exceeded my expectations in the best way. In just one month, not only has my functional movement improved, but I'm also building muscle and dropping fat like it's my job.
Each trainer at 34 North is exceptional. I love working with all of them. The programs and progressions that they put together are challenging, but achievable. Each time I enter the gym, I'm excited to see what I'm capable of doing.
One thing that I think sets 34 North apart from other small group gyms is that they're FOCUSED. Focused on moving correctly. Focused on what you're actually capable of. Focused on improving each week. Focused on creating a community of people who are excited to get to work. Focused on creating a sustainable life practice of workouts and movement.
In addition to great trainers and workouts, 34 North is on top of it when it comes to administrative items and facilities. I started off at 3x a week, but quickly realized that I loved this place and wanted more. A quick email was all it took to upgrade to an unlimited package. I was set to register for as many classes as I wanted within an hour of sending the email to upgrade. Their facilities are clean. It doesn't feel grimy or smell like a gym. They care for the top of the line equipment and take great care to ensure that the floors are clean, the bathrooms are clean (and well-stocked), and that the space is calm and welcoming.
I can't say enough good things about this place. Oh, and there's ample on-site parking to boot!

I've been a member of 34 North since May 2015 and have seen improvement in my fitness and strength since coming here.
- Skilled coaches/trainers who genuinely care about you and want to see you improve/grow.
- Coaches walk you through exercises to ensure proper form and suggest modifications for those who need them.
- A great mix of body weight exercises, movement & mobility, and strength and endurance classes without the use of complicated and intimidating gym equipment
- Gym members are friendly and supportive
- Classes are fun and as challenging as you want to make it
- There are also guided wellness journeys and hikes for members on occasion
I recently got hip surgery and every single coach has reached out personally with well wishes and support. You do not get that at a typical gym!

Found the gem in my neighborhood - what a blessing. I first went when I had sciatica, Tanner set me up with Brian who did a really good diagnosis. Going back for personal messages was a bit out of my price range, so I took some time just to do yoga elsewhere to stengthern. I would encourage for anyone who comes here to the advantage of the skillful instructors. For me, I'm a complete workout novice, and sometimes didn't know what to ask. Having spent 3 months here going regularly I could feel my form getting better. My main goal was to strengthen my back and I met that. Recently my schedule completed exploded and Lo worked to accommodate me which is beyond awesome. I don't feel good at the moment having fallen off and hope to find balance to come back when I can. 5 stars.

34 North is the real deal. The personal results I am receiving by training at 34 North are the best physical and mental results I have ever achieved in fitness with my training. I have become leaner, stronger and more capable of doing any and all physical activity I desire outside of the gym. The workouts are comprehensive with a combination of joint mobility, core, metabolic conditioning and pure strength. The workouts are also fun, energetic, and appropriately challenging. I am 52 years old and I have never had more fun working out than I am experiencing at 34 North.
However, as everyone knows, a gym is much more than a building. What Makes 34 North truly special is Tanner Martty, the owner of 34 North and my Coach. Tanner's coaching style is a combination of intelligence, thoughtful planning and experience. Tanner will bring out the best in you. But, he is much more than just terrific coach. Tanner is also a really terrific person outside of the gym. I have seen Tanner as a family man who is an amazing Dad and loving partner to both of his special girls.
If you want serious results, if you want to workout with a purpose, if you want to be inspired and trained intelligently, check out 34 North. But more importantly, go see Tanner Martty and his staff, they all are very talented as coaches group who will bring out the best in you.
Hope to see you there and train with you someday.

This is the best gym I have been to bar none. I had a long period of inactivity due to some injuries and Tanner and the other coaches got me back and motivated to working out vigorously again. I have been working with Tanner for about 6-7 months now and the changes have been incredible. I have put on a lot of muscle, lost a significant amount of fat and achieved personal bests in different lifts, bodyweight activities (pullups etc), and gymnastics ring work.
I would recommend Tanner and everyone at 34 north to anyone who is serious about improving their mind, body, and soul. Your the man Tanner.

I can honestly say I LOVE being part of 34 North! I am someone who gets bored easily at gyms and pairing this with a fair amount of work travel, it takes a special place for me to stay motivated. For the last two years I have struggled with work/life balance and I found myself coming close to accepting I would never be in the shape I use to be in. Sounds cheesy but finding 34 North saved me. Yes, the workouts are killer and always different but more than that is the "IT" factor of the gym. Tanner, Kevin, Orion, Sarah, JQ and Brian are all the most encouraging and supportive coaches I have ever worked with. They are so amazing at what they do - from specific form tweaks to putting together the perfect blend of challenging but accomplishable workouts, I always leave the gym feeling positive and happy.
The positive energy, fab coaches and other members make 34 North a cool place to come. The killer workouts make 34 North where you go to become a lean, mean fighting machine who will look darn good on the beach!
Emma Black
An outstanding gym - the coaches are all extremely talented, knowledgeable, and go above & beyond to ensure their members are constantly improving / advancing. I joined the gym post-surgery, and was welcomed by very patient coaches who all took the time to make sure I had scaled / alternative exercise options available. Great, friendly community environment! Highly recommend to all levels of fitness.

Being an athlete my whole life, 34 North is one of the best things that I have ever got myself into. This isn't just your typical gym where you just work out. This gym is a life changing gym, changing for the better lifestyle, to bring the inner athlete you always had in you.
It doesn't matter if you are just starting to get in shape, or an injury that has prevented you from working out, or you have been in the best shape of your life. 34 North will help you realize your untapped potential that you never knew you had.
The coaches here are amazing each one has their own style and technique, but as a whole they complement each other's teachings. Technique is important and the coaches here do not skim on that. The coaches here will commit to helping you change your life as long as you are committed.
The people that go to 34 North are amazing. It is a community within itself, a positive community. If you need that extra boost or motivation to work out; this is the place to go. You won't regret it.

It's not possible to distill into a single review the essence of 34N. It has to be experienced. But for those who may not be satisfied with their current fitness/wellness/health/strength/mobility/wellbeing situation, whatever it may be, let me suggest a few ways 34N can help:
1. Community. This is key, and you'll find it in spades at 34N -- from the owners to the instructors to the members. No judgment. No drama. No pretense. No BS. I'm a 40-something year old husband and father of 5, with no background in fitness. You'd think I'd be lost in a gym with 20-something year old fitness enthusiasts. (There are also older members like me.) Nope. I feel supported, encouraged and motivated every time I attend the gym. Every time. And this is to say nothing of the extra-curricular activities and offerings -- guided meditations, workshops and clinics for specialized skill development, nutrition coaching, capture the flag excursions at the beach, weekend parties, and the Winter Pentathalon and Summer Olympics, to name a few. I do not believe you will find a better community in the fitness space than at 34N. Period.
2. Instructors. Although also part of what makes the community great, the instructors are a class unto themselves. I train mostly with Tanner, Orion and Mychal, and each has the knowledge, passion, enthusiasm, skill, and in my case, patience, to help me progress and achieve goals and markers that I have come to understand are essential for my overall well-being. I can't imagine training with better instructors. Tanner's electronic newsletter, 3 Rep Max, is itself a treasure trove of wit and wisdom and I would never skip an issue. (I would join the gym just to get access to the newsletter.) In a word, you will never get "the wrong advices" at 34N. (Kudos to the Arnold enthusiasts who get the reference.) (And a special shout out to Lo, one of the owners. She runs the front desk in the morning, curates the music, ensures everything in the gym runs smoothly, keeps everyone strung out on her famous nut butter --you won't find better, and is genuinely the most pleasant person you ever want to meet at 6 am.)
3. Facilities. The facilities are amazing and reflect the overall passion and vision of Tanner and Lo (owners). The space is open, bright and clean, in addition to being super functional. The equipment is top of the line and there is ample room in the gym for both group and personal training sessions. My sense is that if 34N doesn't have it, you don't need it.
4. Programming/system. I am not a spokesperson for the gym, but my understanding is that you can purchase a group membership, group sessions (varied) or individual private training sessions (visit the gym's website for details). I attend the group classes and also work individually with Tanner. The programming/system for each is clearly very well thought out and implemented with purpose and meaning. The classes/sessions are challenging but rewarding. I always feel that the instructors not only know what they're doing, which should be a given, but that they also have a grand vision for each student's overall development and progress in mind when they start a new session (group classses run on 6-week sessions). Having the end in mind speaks to holistic perspective, which the instructors at 34N have clearly mastered. 34N is much, much more than simply a place to lift weights or get your heart rate up.
I've lived in Los Angeles for 20 years. When people ask me what I enjoy about living in Southern California my default answers have historically been: the weather, the diversity, the food. Now, at the very top of that list is 34N. Without question.

I have trained with both Tanner and Lauren and they are the best trainers I have ever had. This place is like the Cheers of gyms. Everyone is friendly, supportive and knowledgable. The classes are challenging but I always feel like a rockstar when I leave. Since I started going to 34 degrees north I have noticed such amazing changes in my body and feel myself getting stronger and stronger. Love this place!

I am relatively new to 34° North. I am finishing the first month of unlimited classes and I have a personal training session once a week with Mathieu. I have traditionally worked out two or three times a week but since I joined 34° have increased that to five days. It has been great! I have found each coach/trainer -- Tanner, Kevin, Orion, Brian, Sarah, and Mathieu -- to be welcoming, informative, and able to provide personal support and guidance during the classes. I have seen the difference working out more consistently can make and I am committed to the journey that results in consistent improved health and fitness. 34° is a community environment; that's part of its DNA and is part of what enables each member to develop. If you are only looking for a gym with the latest equipment for a workout, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for coaching and support to develop, then I would encourage you to check out 34° North.

34 North is by far the best gym I've been too in a long time! All of their trainers ( Sarah Harris, Kevin Atkinson, Orion Lee & Tanner Martty) are amazing knowledgeable individuals. If your looking for a great place to work out without the stresses of poor gym quality... This is the place for you.
John Margolis
I am an architect who recently relocated from the Boston area and I have been working out with Kevin Atkinson as my personal trainer for almost two years now. I can say unequivocaly he is one of the best trainers around.
Over the years I have worked with numerous trainers and Kevin is clearly exceptional. He is knowledgeable, and he is a good listener. Kevin's emphasis on core strength and endurance has helped me realize all kinds of personal gains.
I should add that 34 North is a serious place with exceptional instruction. Kevin collaborates with other trainers including Tanner Maarty to offer a broad range of group and individual training. I would recommend 34 North without reservation!
Melissa Portillo
The transition into my first real job really took a toll on my body and really needed someone to guide me back into shape. Kevin has been all that and more. As a personal trainer, Kevin really tests you with not only a different workout each time, but real commitment and care. It is an investment worth taking. I not only feel healthier, my body is in best shape it has ever been (even when I was skinner). 100% owe a huge thank you to Kevin and the whole team at 34 North.
charles coffey
This is a great place to do your work out. They have all the equipment you'll need for a serious burn. Nice clean environment with plenty of restrooms.
Dee Vazquez
34-North is awesome. I love their 6-week customized curriculum cycles with a "deload" week afterward where they introduce you to games like crab-walk capture the flag or human operation. You're guaranteed to forget you're exercising.
They're continually adding classes and offering new programs that are focused on holistic health. But what makes them exceptional are their instructors. The instructors are experts in their field, and it's clear teaching is their craft. You'll learn something from every one of these folks. Kettlebell Turkish getups from Mychal, pelvic thrusts from Tanner, knife battling/self-defense from Orion, squats from Raquel, handstands from Saul, how to properly engage your core from them all.
After years of going through the motions (ha!) in yoga classes, I feel like I'm making progress for the first time by going to Sarah Costanza's Veritas yoga series at 34-N. For every pose, Sarah breaks down what should be happening in every body part. She combines relatable metaphors ("squeeze your core like a Capri-sun pouch"),her scientific understanding of human anatomy and her background in gymnastics to make yoga super challenging yet achievable. Sarah's priority is to help you improve, and she focuses on each of her students individually during class regardless of their level. It's difficult to imagine another instructor with her mastery of yoga, mobility, upper-body expertise, and teaching abilities.

I want you to call Tanner at 34 North right now. He’s going to get you in the best shape of your life. And he’s going to do it in a way that is holistic, sustainable and full of joy. He did it for me. I went from 280 pounds to 218 in 9 months, all without ever having to eat a single twig or kale branch, unless I really wanted to.
I first rolled into 34 North in July, 2018. By sumo standards, I was a paragon of fitness: 47, male, 6 feet, 280, 45% body fat. I needed help with everything: exercise, diet, and the in-between stuff that glues it all together, like recovery, rest, motivation. I wanted to find a place that embraced the latest in tech and industry knowledge, without all the B.S. I was hoping to find a trainer that was a role model that I could follow.
I was there to meet Tanner Martty, the principal of 34 North. We talked about all things fitness, but what I really wanted to know was: 1.) what kind of dude was he? 2.) what were the facilities like at 34 North? And 3.) would there be much kale involved? I’ll cover each of these next.
1. So, what kind of dude is Tanner? Tanner is the sort of guy you enjoy hanging out with, even if you’re an introvert like myself. He’s fun, and he’s a hell of a coach and partner during the workout. He is unstumpable when it comes to testing his knowledge about anything professional. Lastly, he’s the type of guy that never phones it in, and won’t let you either.
2. What are the facilities and sessions like at 34 North? You won’t find giant banks of machines or treadmills at 34 North. This place is all about free-weights, bars, ropes, giant rubber-band thingies, gymnastic-rings, tractor tires (yes!), sledge-hammers (oh yes!), weight sleds, heavy bags, and a panoply of other toys. A third of the place is taken up by a “grass” section where people practice dance-like movements, balance movements, or how to act out their movie scene knife fights (true story) with the help of onsite trainer Orion (totally his real name, and yes he went to China to train with the shaolin monks, I am not making this up). Each workout targets interrelated improvements such as range of motion, strength, cardio, dexterity, joint health, and nerves in novel ways. They are never boring.
3. Would there be much kale involved? Which is to say, did he have a sustainable model for diet I could follow long term? You see, the sustainability of a lifestyle bears an inverse relationship to the amount of kale in it. More kale, less sustainable (I know I am not the only one who thinks this). Tanner showed me how he eats and provided ongoing consulting and feedback. Supplementation is kept to a minimum, and has more to do with amending the deficiencies in our modern food industry than with magic pills or strength potions. His wife, Lo, who is a critical part of the solution-set, provided me with recipes, advice and even hard-to-make food items as a courtesy to help me achieve my goals. I am not lying when I say that I have never eaten a more satisfying diet in my life.
There’s a 4th element that’s worth covering in this review. It’s the in-between stuff I alluded to; you might call it the meta. I don’t want to get too West Side (never go full West Side), but it’s true that it helps greatly to have a coach to keep you focused, motivated, mindful, inspired. It isn’t something that’s structured, it comes from the community and comradery you get at a place like 34 North. It’s very rare.
I now weigh 218 pounds. I’ve increased my lean body mass, even as I removed fat. I went from size 48 pants to size 36. Beyond metrics, I *feel* better than I ever have. Mental abilities like alertness, endurance, incisiveness, sense of well-being, confidence, even empathy have all improved. I sleep well. I hope this review was helpful. I don’t write reviews, but I wanted to do one for 34 North, and for anyone out there looking for not just a gym or trainer, but a complete solution for exercise, health and vitality.

Amazing facility and staff! Warm welcomes to new comers to whole body fitness, and a Holy Grail of training facilities for the experienced athlete.Tanner Marrty has taken his extensive background in competitive sports and all area's of training disciplines and packaged them into a one stop holistic get your best self ready for the world, mind body and spirit center! Check em out, and he'll be glad to give some free classes to see if it fits your needs and goals. I know it will!

Let's face it, there are many gym arbiters: class content, ease of schedule, facilities, location, parking, etc. I think finding the right people is one of the more challenging fits when looking for your fitness home.
Community. This is what separates 34 North from other gyms.
I'm partial to Brian Zerega's Bodyweight Mastery class on Fridays. It's half playtime and half workout. Brian is best described as a square peg in a round-hole world, and his unorthodox approach helps keep things engaging. Don't be fooled; he brings a wealth of knowledge that serves as a solid foundation for his pedagogy.
The owner, Tanner Martty is three parts Metallica and one part Enya. He may look like bro dude central, but he strikes me as someone whose primary goals are health, strength, and longevity. Aesthetics are a byproduct of achieving those goals, not THE goal. It's all about a holistic approach with Tanner. If you want intensity, Tanner is your man.
Like Tanner, Kevin Atkinson, is also three parts Metallica, but one part Night at the Roxbury (you always know when his car pulls up). I haven't taken any classes with him, but I usually see him training private clients and he's always been very friendly. I have witnessed one particularly amazing transformation with one of his clients, though, so Kevin clearly knows what he's doing.
JQ Williams is a granola bar with fair trade chocolate bits: totally crunchy and super sweet. This woman is the apex of flexibility and strength. Full disclosure: I also take her class at Veda Yoga and it's a wonderful way to center myself.
Orion Lee is the final teacher that I have had. Very fascinating guy who has a degree in martial arts! His intensity is midway between Brian and Tanner.
I frequent gyms that are very cliquey and others that aren't social at all, and they all have their place. At 34 North, however, you'll find genuine, welcoming people who will go the extra mile to help you with your fitness journey.

Some people workout, and some people WORK-OUT! This is a gym for the latter. There's no treadmills or elliptical machines. No saunas or Cybex. There are weights, kettlebells, ropes, tires, sledgehammers, and at the center, Tanner Martty (Owner/Head Trainer).
Tanner is a special kind of trainer. He sees the potential you have and brings out the best in you, that extra gear you weren't sure you had, the level you need to hit in order to see results. He's also a family man and you can find his beautiful girls here most days of the week either sweating with us or cheering along.
If you're serious about getting in better shape, no matter what shape you're currently in, then THIS is your spot! Come in for a free workout and change your perspective on "gyms" forever!

I have a confession to make, I am in a long time love affair...with food. It all started with my first bite of mushy peas and has carried into the present. My FitBit is even decorated with pizza all over it so I know exactly what I'm counting steps for. Needless to say, I had to get into a good gym routine so I don't kick the bucket via carb overdose (although I suppose there are worse ways to go).
I have tried many, many gyms and studios on the west side via ClassPass, but something about 34 North really stuck with me. So much so that I cancelled ClassPass and went fulltime with 34. I love the emphasis on good form and the variety of exercises I'm exposed to every workout. What I enjoy most though, is the community mentality. Whether it's Tanner helping my little T-Rex arms lift my chin over the pull-up bar, Sarah making sure I work muscles in my calves I didn't know I had, Orion almost taking a kick in the face as I try to hang on the rings, or Kevin's ability to create addictingly fun endurance classes that will leave your legs like jelly (in a good way)...this gym has top-notch trainers that are a great support system that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Highly encourage checking them out!

Let's get started shall we. 34 North has changed my life. To describe my previous training regimen as "inconsistent" would be to put it kindly. Over the last few years, I would potentially find myself putting together a few solid weeks of being active 3 or 4 days per week, but would soon thereafter fall back into a routine of jogging at best once per week and continuing to live a lifestyle that emphasizes short term enjoyment over long term sustainability AKA partying like a rockstar. As I get older of course, it becomes more and more difficult to do that and be a productive member of society, so as you can imagine, SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE.
I began training at least 3 days per week at 34 North in November and since then I have seen steady improvement in every health indicator you can imagine. I'm stronger, leaner, have more stamina, my digestion has improved, nagging illnesses no longer nag, etc. etc. Tanner has created an environment where anyone starting at any fitness level can thrive due to the kinship and camaraderie you feel with the others taking your workout class as well as his expert knowledge and ability to modify any workout to fit a client's particular needs. He challenges you but doesn't have to push too hard, because he makes you want to challenge yourself and push your own limits.
I even ran the Tough Mudder with the rest of the team from 34 North, which is stepping way outside my comfort zone. However, despite it's grueling nature and panic-inducing obstacles, I was able to successfully complete the 10+ mile course and do it all while having the time of my life. I'll hold those memories forever. I look forward to continuing to push my limits at 34 North and to making many more memories with a great fitness family.

Amazing gym - loved my first class and already booked my next one. The focus is on getting strong (not heavy) and mobile. We used rings, floor and the wall (handstands). Just the type of class I love.

Consistently training here changed my health and how I treated my body for the positive. It was not difficult for me to return every week as I saw my focus, my energy levels increase, and to see how much effort and attention the instructors give to each member throughout a workout.

Master trainers who understand the art of movement, training not just strength but how to move more effectively so you can build strength, agility and healthy movement patterns. Love the space and the energy here. Really warm community too.

Kevin kept me healthy, strong, and feeling good through my pregnancy, then helped me lose my baby weight within months of giving birth. Body transforming! 11 months after giving birth, I'm leaner and more confident in my body than I Ever have been.

Literally a life changing place. Develops a complete system, well beyond the gym. Diet, mindfulness, movement and an excellent roster of coaches that approach fitness and wellness in different yet synergistic ways. 34 North is a huge part of my life.

34-North is the master of its craft; incredibly bright with a treasure trove of health and fitness knowledge; trainers are experts in kettlebell, weight training, rings, animal patterns, you name it; and with their warm, spontaneous personalities they make workouts fun. 34-North is brimming with the brains to help anyone achieve the brawn.

Amazing experience! First time in any sort of ‘real’ gym, and was pretty intimated to be honest, but thoroughly enjoyed the class and will definitely be back for more :)

Best bang for your buck on the west side. It has all the tools and equipment you need to give you the summer body you want. Train with Kevin or Tanner, you won't regret it.

I train with Sarah taking the Fast and Strong class and it is honestly one of the best workouts I have ever done! As an athlete that has previously suffered shoulder and ACL injuries, I have noticed increased strength and mobility in my afflicted areas. Sarah stresses proper form and quality of movement with each group of exercises. No workout is the same!
Group classes are small so that every participant can receive individual attention on correctly performing the challenging exercises. The workouts translate to my performance on the pitch as a rugby player. In just a short amount of time I have noticed improvements in my strength and endurance levels. I look forward to Fast and Strong every week and leave the gym completely exhausted yet satisfied every time!
