Reviews of Rocksport
Red River Gorge Beta
Best gym in Louisville hands down. The staff is amazing and so kind to all of the guests. I saw so many people having a great time when I visited. They had a proportionate amount of entry level climbs for us to get our foot in the door climbing as well as more challenging climbs when for when we get better! The facility was extremely clean and the members were so welcoming and helpful, we loved our visit to Rocksport and are excited to be joining the climbing community! Thank you for the wonderful experience for our family!

Hannah was awesome, her attitude made our visit memorable, so helpful and kind. My family was a little apprehensive to climb and she helped make them feel comfortable and at home. Gym has a great atmosphere, welcoming for beginners and a lot of resources for a more advanced level of workout. Infinity walls for endless speed climbing. They have 4 inertia reels for solo climbers and for those with a buddy they have top rope climbing. Can't wait to go back!

First time rock climber. My boyfriend and I came in looking for a new hobby. John helped us get our gear fitted and explained the basics to us. The staff was super helpful and friendly. We had a great time! We will definitely be back.

Super Fun!!! Came down to Louisville to have a trip away from home and decided to try wall rockclimbing. Me and my boyfriend loved it! Super helpful and friendly staff and an all day pass is a super fair price. Will be coming again soon!

Rocksport is great and becoming even better. There is plenty to do for a variety of skill levels and even if you come on your own. So there is top rope and lead climbing to do with a partner but there are also auto belays and bouldering. Given, most of the bouldering is overhanging and challenging for beginners, but there are some sections and routes with V0s. The roped routes have a few easy ungraded routes on the “leaned in” wall (slab wall) then it goes from about 5.7 to about 5.13.
For those that climbed there years ago - while we are forever grateful for the creator and manager... and the routes were not changed very often, and the gym got, well, a little old.
Under the new ownership and management, everything looks fresher. A very inviting new lobby area, new bathrooms, a fresh coat of paint, and new routes!
To be fair and honest - it’s not a state of the art brand new Walltopia facility, but it does still check all the boxes for me. Bouldering, top rope, auto belay, lead climbing, workout equipment, nice bathrooms, friendly staff, engaged community.

We had my 7 year old son's Birthday party here and he and his friends loved it! It was something different and challenging for them to try. The staff was amazing the moment we walked in the door and we're so patient with all the kids. They had a nice space upstairs where we had our snack and cupcakes and the boys even enjoyed an air hockey game. We'll definitely be back to do climbing as a family. Highly recommend this place!

Last night was my first time back to Rocksport in almost 4 years and I am LOVING IT!!
There are new routes, a new, friendly staff, a new look to the place, and there's a super sweet new Reverse Osmosis (RO) water machine.
Stoked that my buddy dragged me out last night because I am now going to become a member again and get back on the wall.
Thanks for revivifying an old haunt.

I enjoy coming to this place and have been for many years (off and on). Good top rope climbing and a decent bouldering wall. Good atmosphere and great music.

The staff at this gym were very kind and helpful, but our experience here was poor. As former beginner-intermediate level climbers who were passionately into bouldering at our climbing gym in Colorado Springs (and several others in Denver), we have enough experience to compare this gym to others.
Where do I begin?
1. Routes were color-coded by tape on the underside of each hold, making it difficult (or impossible) to see your route when you're on the wall.
2. Not a single route was completely vertical. Every single wall required above-average arm strength, even the V0's and V1's on the bouldering wall.
3. Every route that we found, in fact, was designed either for a very small child or someone over six feet tall. The reach and strength required just to complete a 5.8 made the whole gym unattainable for someone getting back into shape after a climbing hiatus.
These kinds of things are common at some second-rate gyms I've been to in Colorado, but the expectation there is that these gyms charge less money. Rocksport, on the contrary, has prices comparable to some of the finest, most enormous, well-kept gyms I've ever seen, with auto belays on every wall.
As a recent transplant to Louisville, I miss climbing. I was ecstatic at the opportunity to climb at such a conveniently-located gym. But after today, I may not even be desperate enough for this. Then again, I may. Don't hate, Rocksport.

We took our daughter here for her birthday. It was my whole family's first time rock climbing. Everyone was super nice and helpful getting us started and even the other climbers were so kind and helped our girls hook in. We were able to climb for as long and as we wanted and climbed until our arms were giving out. We had a wonderful time and will 100% be back! My girls are hooked! Thanks for a being a part of her birthday fun!

My shower was broke for a week and Rocksport let me use the gym's. 5/5 best hotel in Louisville

Friendly, encouraging, and just plain cool. Thanks for making my sister's birthday a blast.

best climbing gym in Louisville! fun, safe and inclusive, I've found Rocksport provides plenty of opportunities for both seasoned climbers and beginners with no experience. furthermore with proper covid precautions in place, I always feel at ease when climbing, finding plenty of room for safe distancing. the staff is kind, friendly and patient, and after just your first visit you'll feel like you gained a family. so grateful to have found a solid community here :)

Rocksport is back in action and better than ever! With new ownership and a few months of renovations, you’ll see lots of fresh additions and improvements! All new holds, new routes, new flooring, strength training, & lots more.
The gym has several new auto belay to go along with their 2 bouldering caves, top rope walks, & tons of routes! The staff is fantastic and on deck to help anyone! They teach how to belay, how to tie the ropes, and even how to work through a tough spot on your climb!
If you’ve never been or went a while ago, it’s time to come back and see the upgrades!
Ty McCallum
Best rock climbing in Louisville. Awesome auto repels too!

Rocksport was a blast, new ownership and a small mom pop feels kept things feeling nice and welcoming. Rustic and a little more ambient then other gyms, was toasty when you started to run laps on the walls. The training area is well equipped, appreciated the rope for gymnastics work. I'll be returning for more sessions. Excited to see the gym grow.

Very awesome gym I loved the vibes there. You can tell the staff really enjoys what they do. They seemed very helpful, and attentive to new climbers. Very fun and challenging routes. Very nice gear and holds. The only reason why I gave four stars instead of five, is because the route grading seemed a little inconsistent. Such as some 5.10s felt like 5.8s and some 5.8s feel like 5.10+s. I talked to the staff and they are aware of the grade issue. They informed me they are working on it which is great. The only other thing I wish they had is a little more slab bouldering. Most of the bouldering was sit start and over hang. All in all one of the better gyms I’ve been to. Keep up the great work guys thanks for a fun night of awesome climbing! 😀

We had such an awesome experience! We were new to rock climbing and it was such a great work out. The owner was there and spent a lot of time with us. Definitely going back!
Christa Koppuzha
Solidly three stars. The days passes are reasonable with rentals (we paid just over $50 for two people) and I appreciate that they gave us a chalk bag as well. Staff was also friendly and helpful, and let us practice a bit before the belay test.
I just can’t get over the route marking system- any given route is made up of random colors, with tape below the hold to mark which pieces are on. This makes it nearly impossible to climb a route faithfully because you can’t see if a piece below you is on or not. I’ve also been climbing for 3+ years and the grades feel very different then what I am used to (a 5.9 feels much more like a 5.10C, for example) so not sure about how they determine routes. The bouldering routes are marked in the same way, and all on a steep overhang.
That being said, it was clean and we had a good time- but would suggest rethinking the route marking!

Rocksport is the best! I have been climbing there for a few years now. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the routes are great. I love that the routes are graded slightly harder than the Gorge so I feel like a rockstar when I go outside. Keep up the awesome work!

i heart rocksport all the people are super nice + helpful and it is just a great community(and gym!!)

The facility is really clean which is nice. I am not an avid spot climber, my boyfriend is. What little climbing I do is bouldering. However, I have sport climbed and belayed. The auto-belays are very user friendly. The bouldering routes are awesome. My main complaint is that their tape identification system can be confusing especially as you ascend, since the tape is below the hold.
During our visit, my bf was fine with auto-belays but wanted me to get belay certified. Again, i am not super experienced. We asked the woman at the desk if she could give me the test. She proceeded to be incredibly rude. To begin, I started to tie my 8-knot (correctly) and she immediately said "you're already doing it wrong.".I tried to be a good sport and politely tell her my boyfriend is fine with autobelay and I like to boulder anyway, but she continued to pressure me and make it very awkward. she also insulted me by saying "wow, you seemed so confident when you asked to get certified", and to my boyfriend,, "wow, you must really trust her if you let her belay you before". Needless to say, I didn't get certified.
I stayed and bouldered for a while and may even come back to do so but geez, not a very welcoming atmosphere. I also can't believe I paid 20 dollars for someone to insult me so much lol.

Rocksport is my favorite gym in Louisville! They have auto belays, top ropes, sport climbing, bouldering, a treadwall, gear shop, and more! Best gym in town
Angie Lo
Super friendly staff, hard routes, warm and welcoming community, clean and comfortable environment. I love this gym and hope they expand so we have more gyms all over Louisville.
Blake Spradlin
Best climbing gym in Louisville hands down
Fern Kaitlin Erhard
The staff was friendly & helpful! First time at this gym. So easy to get started, and so much fun.
Rachel Shields
If you're looking to wear out your kids, this is the spot. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, relaxed environment, and all the walls you could want to climb.
Zechariah Parrish
I personally love to climb and wouldn't recommend anywhere else but here. Whether you're there to work out or to really get into climbing you should go. In addition, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Hunter Spurlock
Best place to climb on ropes in Louisville :)
Tom Kim
Kind of pricey but it was a great place to climb. Took my girlfriends 5 year old there and he was able to climb. It was his first time and loved it. It was our first time as well and we were given a quick rundown of how everything works.
I would definitely go back here even though I don't live in Louisville.
Andrew Johnson
As a novice climber I went in for a day pass and left with a membership. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. I definitely plan on going multiple times a week!
Eric George
Had a great time here with my daughter last weekend! Huge climbing walls, boulders, and lots of other exercise equipment to practice on
James Santee
Best climbing gym in Louisville. New routes often with moves that mimic routes in the gorge
Ross Kline
A great climbing gym. The routes are well planned, and are changed often, so you'll never get bored. The bouldering area is very good. Nothing fancy, but overall a great climbing gym.
Angela Cecil
I’m so glad the gym is open again! The new owners are doing great things and have ideas for how to continue growing, all while honoring and remembering the previous owner, Rob. Thanks, guys!! : )
Mitchel Hoffman
Good facility and a friendly, helpful owner who built the walls himself. There are significantly more vertical routes for top rope than lead sport but the handful of overhanging/sport routes are fun quality ones. Bouldering walls are varied in pitch and many (maybe all?) have top-out options.
Carter Hilliard
I love this gym and the people who work here the only complaint I have is that you do not update your hours or the days on which you are closed. A sign on the door only help so much whenever I have to drive 25 to 30 minutes to see it After I checked your website or your Google page and it says that you will be open.
Robert Kirtland
Our group of 20 enjoyed an excellent indoor climbing experience. Staff proved friendly and very helpful.
Evan
Cool place to climb, great people working there who were very helpful. Took my 5 year old on Sunday and he loved it. We'll be back lots.
M S
A little expensive for a one-off climb ($15) but the folks were very friendly and helpful. They belayed for me. They also didn't require all of my private information which has annoyed me by some gyms in the past. All of the ropes were set up and the routes were fairly well-labelled. They're a little strict on bouldering safety requiring a spotter. It seems to be a very safe place to climb. They do sell some equipment here like shoes. Probably 5 star if cheaper and autobelays (though they were really nice about belaying an out of towner and showed me how to knot and whatnot).
Johan Nielsen
Overall solid climbing gym. Good variety of routes and difficulties available to tailor your climbing to your level and goals. Inviting atmosphere and friendly people.
