I am a woman of tremendous Faith. You might think I am a little premature with this review, since I have only had one class! But let me tell you, I have to speak on the experience I have had in first talking to Barb(owner) and following up with my assessment with Isabel(owner's daughter). See, I lost my only child, my beloved son in March of this year. I am completely "broken" but I know I need an outlet to help with the extreme grieving, so I chose, excuse me God sent me to Fitness by Design. Keep in mind I have only had one class, but you don't meet people in life too often like Barb and Isabel. I came to my assessment(in tears). It was just a bad day, and I was about to tell Isabel I needed to leave but I gave it a few minutes more, and into the process, I began to get into it and my competitiveness kicked in. I was taught by my grandmother to at least complete what you start, and I did. But let me also say that the instructor, Isabel had a lot too do with it. See, she has a very beautiful spirit and sole, and to see that and feel that in someone so very young, well it did my heart good. Not to mention, Barb the owner has the same beautiful spirit and sole(a woman of Faith), she will work with you on the business side truly. As you can tell by now, I believe I came to the right place. Yes, when I walked through those doors at 4715 Grand avenue, I knew I was in the right place. I could say so, so much more but I think you get the idea. Keep in mind, I only had one class.....one experience here. I know my journey here will give me more than the physical aspect of it, much much more!!!!!

The facilities and equipment are top notch and I enjoy the smaller classes and personal attention everyone receives. Very professional, supportive and caring team! Fitness By Design offers a variety of classes including Pilates, Yoga, and Strength training. I very much enjoy all three types of classes and like the small groups and/or online options. Whether you want to focus on flexibility, balance, strength or overall general well being, Barb and her team have a work out for you! Great coaches, great clients! I feel very welcome and comfortable here!

Barb Mendoza is an amazing trainer. I have just started my 21st year working with Barb. Her work outs are creative and designed to maximize my time with her. She is always upbeat, prepared and motivates me to do my best. I am in, I am out and I am worn out. While I only do personal training, Fitness By Design has many classes and options to fulfill lots of group fitness classes, Pilates, yoga, massages and health education. This is the place to reach optimal health. I love Barb and Fitness By Design. We are so fortunate to have this incredible studio in Des Moines.

Love the virtual yoga classes -- no worries about going out when the weather is bad! Mary's yoga classes are perfect for getting my day started -- she cues each pose methodically & thoroughly -- making sure you are staying safe, but getting the most from the pose at the same time. I highly recommend her classes!

She is knowledgeable, organized, safety conscious, adaptable, patient, but knows how to push one towards improvement and progress. I do personal training with Susanne, and she’s amazing! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming since I started. They offer in person, virtual, and pre-recorded options! So handy for COVID concerns but also if you’re just short on time. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great group!!

If you want some great Yoga sign up for Mary St. Onge's classes on Zoom or limited in person. When Mary isn't available her subs are excellent, too. Everybody is very friendly.
